Public Broadcasting presents the Georgia High School Association State Basketball championships.
Major funding for this program is made possible in part by IBEW Local Number 613 South Truck Bank, Georgia's Electric membership corporations Dodge State Farm and by the Atlanta Journal Constitution buy from the Macon Coliseum in the 2000 for GHC two a girls basketball championship featuring the Wesleyan Lady Vols and the Terrell County Lady Greenways.
And good afternoon, everybody, and welcome as we continue our championship weekend coverage here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
It's been a great weekend of basketball.
And did the Wolves come in at 27 and five?
The green wave at 20 and six.
The Green Wave won state championships in 1985 and 1986.
Meantime, the wolves were champions only two years ago in 2002, the two guys to call this one, Dave Garner and Curtis Bond.
All right.
Thanks, Jim.
And I am here with a guy that knows a little something about high school sports in the state of Georgia.
Curtis Bunn, thanks for being with us.
My pleasure.
What about this match up?
Wesley and Terrell County should be a good one.
It should be.
And I think Wesley has a right to feel good about his chances being number one.
Randolph played to get here brings it carries a level of confidence.
It certainly has to affect today's play for them.
Without a doubt, they've got a lot of athletes to as we start with Wesley and there's a big time athlete right there that looks to lead the way.
Nikki Luckhurst Yeah, she had 32 points in their win over Randolph Clay, and more importantly of those seven three, she made a lot of them at points of the game where they really needed a basket sometimes to stem a Randolph Clay surge and also just to give her team confidence when it needed starting five for the Lady Wolves again.
Luckhurst As we mentioned, along with Smith, Moye, Whitney and Whitney, That's right.
They're the two twins in the lineup today.
Again, a pair of sophomores right there, again for Wesleyan, of course, looking to add a Double-A state championship to the resume after that class state title two years ago.
And again, our coaches on the left right there, as you get to look at her, and that is Jana Azar and her seventh season as head coach of Wesleyan.
So pretty impressive numbers.
NEWKIRK Yeah, she's 110 and five in the last four years, so I think she knows what she's doing over there today.
So I'd say so now, turning the tables a little bit, of course, Terrell County comes in here unranked and unappreciated.
That's pretty much been their motto throughout these throughout these playoffs.
They're looking to try to get some respect here.
And then one of those fantastic stories that come during tournament time, no one anticipated that they would be here.
They knocked off a team that everybody thought would be playing here at Holy Innocence, and they had one player over six feet tall.
But they believe in themselves and they rallied around each other.
And their coach, Tony Davis, of course, one of the big stars right there.
And she, again, has some impressive numbers as well.
Yeah, she's a big player for them.
She's the only inside player that they have.
So they're going to scrap this and claw and try to break the rhythm of Wesleyan to stay into this game.
14.4 points, as you saw there in the starters for the Lady Green Wave Davis Peter Spencer for you and Allen again the five starters for Terrell County in this state championship game again a championship action again on GPB and Terrell County again looking to get back into that state championship and there you get a look to Tammy Jenkins right there on the bench.
There we go.
Of course, Coach Coach Jenkins, third year at the Terrell County there.
And she's done a great job in a short amount of time.
Yeah, she's been an inspiration.
This is a woman who on Thursday, the day that they won the semifinal game, went to take her mask, her master's test, a real strong force in the community.
Everybody seems to think that she is the one main cog that is turning that program around.
All right.
There you have it.
Well, we've got another member of our crew here today.
John Nelson is courtside.
John, what's going on?
Not much right now.
Dave, I will let you in on a bit of a home field advantage.
Jannie Azar of Wesleyan was an assistant coach at Mount DeSales here in Macon when they won a championship in the GSA in 1994.
And she's kind of bypassed any and all opportunities to warm up today.
She's been using mount the Sails as her second home away from home.
Tammy Jenkins, the one thing she's worried about is consistency.
And she even debated having T-shirts printed up for her players to wear here in Macon sporting that back.
That's her main concern today.
One thing about Tammy Jenkins, also, she was a point guard for those two teams that Terrell County won championships win in 85 and 86.
So she has experience here when it comes to getting to a championship.
And winning a championship.
Azar has won them.
Jenkins is looking for her first.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Sounds good, John there.
And of course, so we're going to talk a lot about offense today.
Both teams really putting on the points this year.
But defense, both teams really like to play defense and they get back on the floor pretty well.
And that's really what won the game for Trail County over all the innocence at the end of the game, near the end of regulation, they held on to nine straight misses to fourth overtime.
So I think it will be contrasting styles to some degree because Tony is is a very good shooter, too.
All right, Eddie Ashley, a natural.
Let's throw it courtside for today's starting lineup for the Carroll County Greenway with a record of 21 wins and seven losses.
Dressed in white as your home team, now have your attention for the starting lineup.
First for Wesley Allen and forward number three, a five foot nine senior Nikki Luckhurst at phone number 34 five foot eight junior Eric Smith at Center and the 26 foot junior player on morning head guard.
Number two, a five foot eight sophomore Elise Whitney at guard uniform, The five foot eight sophomore Caroline Whitney and Wesleyan head coach Jan Hayes are in now for Carroll County at forward number 25 for the 11 junior Danny Davis.
At forward number 15, a five foot nine senior, one three star Peter at center number 54, five foot ten junior and 20 Spencer.
I've got here 23, five foot ankle.
Allen I've got number five, a five foot sophomore Courtney and your Terrell County head coach Kenny G came out So we are set again double AA girls action in the house Wesleyan and Terrell County.
We'll return with the tip off coming up next.
You're watching high school championships on GPB.

Like a good neighbor, State Farm is their Patti LaBelle most in all star lineup.
You embody the superstars of 70 soul on PBS tonight, Everybody Sing and Sunday at nine on Georgia Public Broadcasting, Wesleyan and Terrell County getting set to go at it in the Double-A girls championship.
They have Garner Curtis gone with you John Nelson courtside as well.
And we are set to rock and roll here and this ought to be a good one.
Again, Coach Cami Jenkins of Carroll County and of course, Danny Azar, the head coach of the Wesleyan Lady Wolves, set and ready to go two very athletic basketball programs on the floor right now.
Yes.
What I think is very important for Terrell to get off to a good start today, Davis number 20 with the highs in there, wins the opening tip but into the hands of the lady wolves and Wesley on offense first you're gonna force that ball inside take it away momentarily but back out good pass in there by Whitney puts it out that in right there I start on offense for Wesleyan good ball 34 there Erica Smith back on the other end Real tally fires one up no deal from Chantelle Allen Wesley and back and running the other way.
I think drill is going to have to show a little bit more patience on offense, work the ball around, go to their best player inside teammate Davis Whitney with the pass outside that's lucky to pull the trigger would go from three point range but Moye with the foul would go ball still loose and finally cleared out of there by the lady Green lane 4 to 5 Courtney few small get out of there The smallest girl on the court got it.
Is that the nose in the action the five foot two little short on that shot though but kept alive back out That's Allen number 23 with the basketball passes out into the corner spot up from three point range rattled in and out of there and back the other way goes at least with the foul from behind and looks like they're going to get on.
Teresa Peters It's going to be her first.
Davis missed that three pointer, but that was a much better possession for the lady Green way.
They moved the ball around, found someone open in the corner in that kind of ball movement will always get you an open shot.
First, the twins Elise and Caroline Whitney for Wesleyan in the backcourt.
They're right around the same side.
So?
So I'm glad they got numbers on their backs here today.
I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.
Looking inside their shot.
A little short from Smith Rebound, Lady Greenway of going back the other way.
That's Peters Bucket inside there again, Antoinette Spencer puts up a shot blocked though by Boyd Wesleyan right back down the floor Jordan with the crosscourt pass there those went sisters they played a lot of basketball together.
You can imagine all those driveway games between those two I'm sure helped their progress at the high school level throughout the year with good ball movement from The Lady Won't Stop by Elise Whitney and she knocks at home.
Wilson does not have a problem with Pace.
It's very, very deliberate, very good passing team and a very good field moving without the ball.
Lady Wolves with the game's first four points.
Carroll County back on the other end trying to counter here.
Peters had a little bit of trouble swings it back out.
That's Davis who puts up the shot from outside hits today.
Davis with her first point, she's averaging over 14 a game this year.
Even something else that's like football.
It's early in the game, but I think that's a big start for the Lady Greenway.
Those young ladies needed somebody to do something to get a point on the board and feel a little bit better about themselves.
Rutgers trying to counter on the other end three point shot off the iron.
No good.
Whitney trying to save it but couldn't.
And so the ball will go back to Carroll County four.
It's been an exciting weekend of high school basketball right here on GPB.
Of course, the Gwinnett Arena last night, of course, to make it coliseum today, the split venue there.
It's worked well.
So we want to welcome all of our viewers.
I've seen a lot of great basketball over the last few weeks.
Unbelievable talent, unbelievable passes in every game.
Allen driving the lane there, couldn't get the shot to go.
DAVIS Trying to keep it alive does so kicks it back out but right into the hands of Alex Whitney and Wesleyan back and moving and contact foul they're going to be called on Allen can't go out of the 510 George it's really interesting watching the twins play together.
Whenever one gets in trouble, she's always looking for that other one and another one is always there as an outlet.
So I've been thinking 18 fouls on Terrell County, Rutgers to force a three lane signee has helped lead Leslie to the championship game.
And there's a nice shot inside there by Moore Moye, who established position once again, great passing and even interior passing from big girls to one big girl to another, which is really important.
Allen Being guarded by least with the attack, it's a shot come out of it, partially tiptoe out of her hand and a whistle down and easier for your substitution for the Lady Greenway here.
It's like number ten.
Deandra, the five five senior into the lineup for the first time today she struck out is going to need to find some offense and someone other than Davis.
It's just going to be too much pressure on her to carry the entire offensive burden and turnover.
Davis in line good move there blocking foul going to be called though on boy and a little slow to get up and that's one thing we're going to have to watch today for Wesley and boy actually coming off of a back injury in the quarter finals there came back and actually helped the Lady Wolves to the semifinal win there.
But, you know, she's a little bit shaken up here in these playoffs.
She's winning a big knee brace on her right knee.
So look like she's a little gimpy as well.
Nobody wants to look.
Anthony Davis at the line for the first time today.
They got Davis with 19 points in round three against Macon County.
This one is in and out of there for a snap win, 4946, narrow win propelled Carroll County to the semifinals.
As you get a look at Erica Smith back in the lineup, what and of course, that 6458 overtime win as you get a look at Davis's numbers there, again, over 14 points a game as a junior and the second one is there.
So Davis one of two on that trip, three points today, all three of Greenway's points here in this first quarter.
4 minutes left, Rutgers, fifth half boy of time couldn't get it to go ball loose if somehow or another lady to come back out of there with it, reset that offense and to realize what came out in a full court press that time for the first time which can be effective but only against a team that is not a good passive team.
It's like an offensive foul underneath there and that one's going to be on, Moyer looks like.
So the ball will go back over to Carroll County 24 substitution for Wesleyan is number 32.
Sarah Dell, who has provided some quality minutes this year, Coach Azar coming in for ceremony.
She has been strong and only a freshman at six foot tall.
I mean, you get to speak in the tournament, you definitely have to have that.
You have to have players coming off the bench and being effective for you.
Even if it's for short periods of time Beaters with the ball there along the baseline ran into a little bit of trouble still throwing it back out.
That's Davis but that's that off the backboard no good kept alive by Courtney few good hustle there again as you mentioned Curtis get the ball is player on the floor he kicked off his hustler here and she has a lot of grit and determination and from that side nice little job there by Antoinette Spencer at number 54 511 junior with the bucket and showing some range that time from beyond the free throw line and that jump shot those Lynn again up by a point Rutgers looking inside shot wouldn't go from Smith and I will go back the other way here up and down the floor here in the opening minutes of this one.
Again, 238 to go in the first quarter and a 32nd timeout going to be called by Coach Tami Jenkins again in her third season as the Lady Greenway of Coach and Terrell County, as we mentioned, coming in Curtis 26th overall but unranked throughout the season and very unappreciated.
Yeah at 20 and six you would expect that they would be a good team however Holly and this is what the team gets to for this position by everyone who had been watching the basketball years.
This team kind of came from some out of nowhere to play together, to rally really around this close.
The community really loves this team.
There's not much to do culturally, but Coach Coach Jenkins came back to town and really has galvanized the program.
The girls rally around her and they consider her a second mother.
So they have a relationship that goes beyond basketball, and I think that translates into a cohesive unit on the court for Carroll County out of Boston, Georgia, heart of the peanut belt state of Georgia.
There you get a look at the field goal numbers at Wesleyan, three of ten for a county, two of nine.
And her team really shooting the ball well here in this first quarter.
But, you know, early game jitters, I guess, are expected.
Absolutely a championship game, especially for a team like Carroll County.
It didn't make the deal.
But now that she has the lead left hander from Chantel Allen and she's on the book Curl with a one point lead now seven six, I mentioned at the top that it was important for Terrell to have a good start today, some confidence to feel good about herself and believe even though they got here unexpectedly and effectively, even by their very own account, they need another confirmation at the start of the game.
And they have gotten that by having a one point lead in the first quarter.
Taylor is also in the game for Wesleyan with that Cross forecasted a while ago, Wesleyan setting up top here under 2 minutes to go in this first quarter seventh six crowd fired up here.
Both teams have traveled well today, the whistle looks a little confused as to how to attack scored on that last three from parallel.
Whitney and Terrell out of there with it already Green Greenway on Teresa Peters bringing the ball up here There's Allen Spencer tough shot would go and block down by Voelker but first back the other way back Booker for three No good brought down by Spencer and again neither team really ripping the net here This is this first quarter it was a strong rebound by Spencer Ball knocked away from Davis a lot of contact the rest and let them play a little bit blockers out beyond that arc there you've got to watch for any time she gets her hands on the ball, she's able to hit from anywhere on the floor at Rutgers, three point range, too strong there already.
Wall was unable to capitalize on that possession.
And now Buddy Greenway will slow down the pace here, possibly run that final 32 seconds off the blocker, play for the final shot.
Again, they're showing great patience, good passing ball movement and you get another big basket by bench player.
Yeah.
Diandra Hall, the five five senior with her first bucket of the day that's a96 Hill gallery 10 seconds left in the opening quarter and Allen knocked away a compelling Whitney Harrell on the attack and a whistle and a turnover travel with one second left here up and down the floor in this opening quarter both teams still trying to feel each other out.
The other team really gun shy and they're throwing that ball up.
It's just not going in.
I actually believe Wesson need to create a much more uptempo pace to create some open, open sounds, because once people kind of get set in their defense, they to find an open, open areas to shoot.
Well, that is it for the first 8 minutes, nine six year scorer Carroll County leading Wesleyan will take time out to be right back right after this.

Dave Gardner, Curtis Bond with me along with John Nelson, our man along the baseline nine six Carroll County on top of Wesleyan here as we start quarter number two, that first quarter, neither team really ripped the nets against Carroll County Lady Greenway seven O Run though the last 312 and that's why they're on top.
I tell you, watch those teams good warm ups and you just felt like Carroll County was overmatched.
But that's why they play the game tonight.
There's a lid on that basket almost here, especially for Wesley in the last few minutes of this one.
I think Western expected an easier battle.
And now as president made a deal, call a little short there and down the line, Leslie, back and running down.
Reagan making Rutgers for four from three point land in that first quarter.
Wesley in all 463 pointers overall there in that first quarter.
They got to get on.
You got to have luckhurst hitting shots from the outside.
He key is the barometer.
He is the key to that whole team.
And they're playing well.
Well, she's playing well.
They're playing well.
Eric Erica Smith looked like she took a little shot in the either maybe on that last one ball knocked away but she will stay with Wesley And again Wesleyan only been around for seven years.
A very young program.
But wow, the success they've had in that short amount of time there, the shot from outside, a two point shot for Nicky Luckhurst put on the line there.
But that's what they need more of right there than the Lady wolves.
And that just may be the shot that will get her going, get her confidence up and make her feel like she can make them.
So.
Spencer on the other end off the mark and it looks like an offensive foul there.
And we'll go back to Wesley Davis over the bag.
Can't afford to have her out to her Mark in the third and we'll look at how little out there but still Allen with two points in the early going for Carolina Tom Donilon the baseline there for Whitney wouldn't go and Peters loses a footing and going to get off to the travel right there.
And nine times out of ten, that's what's going to happen there.
Yeah, I think it's a wish buy from earlier.
When the young lady got hit in the eye, she went down and and moisten the floor and they never did wipe it out.
You still have to see another look at it right there.
Yes.
Which is slip right out.
And we're talking about Wesleyan.
I mean, the success that they've had their four year record the last four years, 111 and 15.
I'm believe the process.
It's a great job by the coaches all from outside there.
Yeah, that was Voelker and I wouldn't quite go.
And I will go back the other way here.
The one thing that should concern Terrell County is the fact that Wesleyan is getting open three point ties.
If they warm up at all, then it could be a big difference in the outcome of the game.
Girls active out here on TV crap fired up.
Everyone's still fired up after that single boys championship featuring Dwight Howard Steele right there on the other end.
Little turnover.
That's Terry Ricky lays it up wouldn't go though and Davis back and running the other way from behind There are lockers with the defense and kick it right off of one of those lady green wave players.
The ball goes back and forth for up and down the court here in this first half.
You know up tempo Pace does not face her favorites here.
Okay.
They seem to be much better at working the ball up court, moving it around, finding open plays, 617 left here in quarter number two, they've got Curtis Bond with a three point shot from outside.
Whitney wouldn't go out of bounds, but it will stay with Wesleyan player substitution for the Lady Wolves that is number 12.
Mary Claire Merlino, the five eight junior and first also will take a seat inside there.
Erica Smith rattles it in there.
Now Wesley is feeling a little bit better about it.
Seven is getting away from someone other than letters and moving the ball again like he had at the start of the game.
Davis Tough shot wouldn't go rebound blockers if he again headed to two lane following the season Nice pass inside up and in Smith what a pass as you mentioned from Walker bail man thread the needle This is to win the lady game we were at their best pushing the ball finding open player Carroll County and that ball going to get thrown away right there So another turnover now this thing has gone back and forth and it looks like a timeout going to be called by coach Tami Jenkins.
Terrell scoreless so far here in the second quarter Wesleyan on a little bit of a run and the lady Wolves have a three point lead with 522 to go in the second quarter and Wesleyan defeating number one Randolph Calais in the semifinal 6153.
And everybody really felt like Randolph play was indeed the team to beat, without a doubt.
But Wesleyan here today.
Well, mark your calendar for Friday night, March 19th, for the return of Georgia's longest running high school sports and academics program.
That's prep sports.
Plus, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletic programs and much more.
That's prep sports.
Plus, returning on Friday, March 19th at 11 p.m., but exclusively on GPB Wesleyan, a60 run in the second quarter.
Of course, the Lady Wolves go for six on.
There's a three point shots in the first quarter.
So they've started to find their groove a little bit here, looks like.
And what they've done is score inside the three point line.
They move the ball around.
Luckhurst hit a shot inside the line.
She made a nice pass on the fast break for a layup and that's that opens up your outside shooting in.
Makes you feel better about your ability to shoot the ball overall.
Tammy Jenkins during that time out trying to hammer girls back down, you're going to look at the field goals.
They're six of 22 for 16.
Both teams starting to hit a little bit.
The Wesleyan coming around there for the game is 33 point shot off the mark there from Orlando for the shooting pressure there in the back court and gets rid of those passes off three point shots from outside.
And a big one right there by Gayle Allard, indeed, is one of those guys that at the start of the game, they needed to be able to get them again, feeling better about themselves.
And once they made a run there and now you see a step back, launches follow through, no doubt about that.
One way behind the arc and also back in transition defensively knocked that last ball away there Wesleyan with the basketball here about four and a half minutes to work with in the second three point shot for Rutgers no good and blocked down by their team after that was Allen and now Davis with the basketball Davis favoring one of those legs there a little bit could not afford to have her on the bench for any amount of time or three point field goals.
Wesleyan, as you see right there, for ten for county, one of five.
So one of 16 combined in this game.
And a lot of it is just bang shooting.
The defense has been fine, but not great.
Not an open shot special.
Listen to the floor.
Still a tie game low dozen points apiece here as we hit the four minute mark in the first half.
I think it's as long as the game stays social favors Carroll County, simply because it is the underdog and will feel better about itself.
That is in the game.
Late travel going to be called on.
Erika Smith and now Antoinette Spencer set to check back in for the Lady Green wave.
Yeah, you know, you got to think with again with Carroll, as you said, being the underdog, being unranked and they really want respect.
I think they've gotten respect, especially beating holy innocents like they did in overtime in the semifinals.
But now they want to walk away with that trophy, which was their preseason goal coming into the season.
Absolutely.
And I talk a lot about feeling good about yourself and self esteem because that matters.
So much in this game.
This is so much emotion and mental, the mental capacity of what you need to do and the belief that you can do it really impacts your performance.
Jump ball, call their bodies, hit the floor and we'll see right here.
Marcus got a hand on it all loose and watch this right here.
Wow.
Yeah.
These young ladies won that championship.
That's the beauty of watching them play so much energy, so much heart and determination.
No one wants to be on the front end of it.
The outcome of the game to a guy with seven turnovers resulting in one.
Both teams taking care of the basketball for the most part.
Again, as you see right here, ball is not going in.
Good ball movement.
Young lady players.
The middle had open shot in the lane and just missed Allen driving catch up with Scott would get it to go but we'll go to the line there good drive by Shankill Alan Lee fighting JR this strong aggressive drive she took the contact here was on West Virginia goes up with the shot anyway follows through just missed it Nene agonizes over miss it is neither team really with not a lot of size is she Allen's numbers right around a dozen points this year but again a lot of hustle these two teams play with quickness play with defense that's going to be the key down to stay scrappy and they're a very well coached team.
Coaches put these players in position to make plays and to defend the other team's plays.
You saw Mary Stevenson come in for Wesley.
Only five Lexington into the lineup here.
The second one on the way from Allen as good one of two on that trip here comes the press good backcourt pressure there they'll get to the crossover hands and at least Whitney is going to be difficult the question because it they're so rare in and out from three point range to follow is there though up and in for Stevenson so off the bench and right into the game and into the scorebook 248 left here in the first half 1413 Wesley with the lead with the turnover two on one back the other way and again right back to Caroline Whitney.
Now Wesley, in the system defense is a half court trap stepped in really quickly surprising and now maybe they understand what's going on.
We came in to work the ball out of this defense shot put up there by Spencer.
No good just laying back on the attack Wesley and region champs in 2001 2000 to 2003 eight down the way I thought I off the back as well 1613 Wesley an up by three here travel right there though three point shot from that side is good can hit fourth on Teresa Peters another shot there really stemmed the time for them all got it back up again got off the mark 147 to go and the crowd from Boston, Georgia on their feet here momentarily that was taken away and a foul.
It's like it's going to be called on 32, Renee, for ten.
Renee, She's only five feet tall.
Yeah, not a lot of size, as we mentioned, but Tony Davis, the six foot tall, she's back in the lineup right there.
They're going to need more offense her.
She only has one basket, one foul, a couple of rebounds, but they're going to need more than her.
But the fact that they're tied at this point with only one basket for her is a good sign for them.
The back and forth here in the first half, they've gone out further spun hit you John Nelson courtside as well And the shot just inside the arc is true for Carolyn Whitney.
I think maybe the other abandoned three point effort to step inside, to run here.
Getting inside the three ball is all about the basketball top being guarded by Whitney Wesleyan, really tenacious on defense.
I don't give you a lot of breathing room, but good move from Antoinette Spencer in the past.
He's just as impressive on the on the right side of the defender led her straight to the basket blockers crosscourt that's the least Whitney controlling back to you.
Rutgers clock winding down 35 seconds.
That one knocked away.
Davis got a hand on it, nearly got a steal.
But first of all, inbound it.
But not before Peters enters the game.
Reenters the game for Carroll County.
Allen will sit.
She was again with three points today from that side.
Is there a three point shot for Nikki Luckhurst?
Eventually you knew as she started hitting in the waiting for coach shooter to get to get going and to make a shot inside and then you that outside shot, we'll feel better to foul on the floor and you got to keep shooting that ball.
That's the thing.
If you're the shooter, if you're the score, you're having a tough quarter.
Hey, you don't quit, shoot the ball.
You got to keep shooting.
And I don't think there's any hesitation in with she's going out there.
She knows her team relies on her from out there and the shots available here steal right there.
Ball still loose, scramble for it.
Wesley comes out of there with a pass ahead.
The Lakers put it up from three and hits with 6 seconds left.
Lakers back to back threes for the Lady Wolves and they've got a 2418 lead at the buzzer.
Shot will not count.
And that is it.
So Wesley and opening up the second quarter on a roll and ending the quarter on a roll and they have a lead but it's Harrell County lead Lady Greenway still very much alive It is basketball game and we got a good one right here at the make coliseum in a good basketball game in the making.
Let's go ahead throw it on down courtside with John Nelson standing by.
Thank you, Dave.
Here with Coach Azar.
I know that you weren't getting the penetration.
You told him to go.
You wanted inside, but what does Nicky do?
She hits two threes.
Then.
That's okay with me.
What we're trying to do is get it inside so that we can open up the outside.
But if the outsides open is okay with me, if she takes that shot and we started getting an inside and Nicky was the one getting an inside, but we're not making those easy baskets.
So that's what we've got to do in the second half is make the easy baskets on the inside.
Almost a tale of two quarters.
They packed that two three zone in there.
It was hard to hit from the outside Percentage is really low, right?
We've got to start hitting our outside shots.
But in order for us to yeah, we got to get the ball inside, we got to start scoring the easy baskets.
You know, the three point shot is great, but the two point shots a lot easier.
So again, we got to hit the inside shots that we're getting where we're feeding our post inside and they're missing out and we're missing those shots.
But, you know, if Nicky wants to light up from the outside, it's it's her last game.
Let's let her do it.
Danny is our thanks for your time.
Good luck.
Second half, Back to you.
David Curtis.
All right, Sounds good to get 2418 again our scorer Wesley it over Terrell County.
We'll be back with halftime after this.

An Introduction to Love and Logic.
Sunday morning at 11 a.m. only on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
All right, now we go courtside to the guy that is full of love.
And I don't know about the logic, Jon Nelson.
No, I do not have logic, but I do have authority here with me here with the principals, Douglas Bell, Carroll County, and he's head master Zach Young.
I catch up with you in a second cause you're the veteran.
Let's start over here with life in Carroll County.
First off, for those that don't know, where is the heart of the peanut belt?
Where is Dawson, Georgia, where we are located in southwest Georgia.
And we are just excited about being here at this particular point.
We are right next to Albany and I think everyone knows what our great city is located.
Now.
You pronounce it right.
It's Albany, right?
You true, true.
Southern.
Talk about what it's been like for Carroll County and the Lady Green Wave and for the school to make it this far.
What is it been like in Dawson this week without us?
I think for the most part it's been a lot of anxiety.
We knew all along that we had the capability of getting to this point and we were just excited about being here.
The enthusiasm is just overwhelming any school within the community.
So we're just all excited about it and it looks like everybody here in the community is actually here in Dawson.
Today is all right.
And one thing I'm going to say that Greenway fans do support the Greenway.
Here, here.
Okay, let's come over here.
Let's talk to the headmaster, Zach Young of the Wesleyan School.
You're the veteran at this.
This is getting old hat for you.
Well, not really.
It never gets to be to be old hat.
We didn't get here last year.
We were here two years ago and three years ago.
But last year we lost in the round of eight to Holy Innocents.
So it's we're happy to be back.
What does it meant to the folks up there in Gwinnett County at the Wesleyan School to have a run like this?
To have a team like this with coaches are and what you guys have been able to do in the seven years that you've been up?
Well, it's been exciting to win a state championship in class a three years ago or two years ago was really exciting.
One of our first state championships ever.
And to do it in a sport like basketball, which is so hard to win it when any one night you can lose.
And it was just really special.
But we're really proud of our girls overcoming all the adversity we've had.
We've had four girls go out with knee injuries this year and that were all season ending.
So for us to have overcome that and still be here is quite a testament to Jason and our girls.
Okay, let's head back over here to Principal Bella Terrell County.
What, if anything, can you learn from an experience like this, both as a high school and as an athletic team?
What can you take back to Dawson from the experience that you've had here in Macon?
Well, we feel like this is going to be a springboard for many good things to come.
Certainly everyone loves winners and we feel like our girls are certainly winners and we are just looking for the momentum to continue.
Now, let's talk about Tammy Jenkins a little bit here.
She was a point guard at the school in 85 and 86.
When you guys last were champs.
What was it like to get her back?
I'll tell you what, it is phenomenal to have coaching and back on board.
We've just seen much, much improvement in our teams overall.
She's doing an outstanding job.
Now, one last question over here for the headmaster.
Jan is from Macon.
She coach at Mount to sales right now.
What's it like having almost a home away from home where she can kind of just be and have a lot of fan support, both from Macon and in Gwinnett County?
Well, when she came down here for the semifinals, the girls left school very early and went to mount to sales and shot around because I won't let you get out here on this court to do that.
And so that was very nice that Matthew Sales let let us warm up an hour or two before the game, Jane.
Still has a lot of friends at Mt.
Sales.
Is nice to come to Macon and play here, but it's particularly nice to have those friends at Mt.
Sales.
A lot of shoes are jammed to warm up for the game and I would personally like to thank Douglas Belton, Principal Terrell County High Lady Greenway.
Actually, he's probably Greenway Landry and Lady Greenleaf Band, and the headmaster, Zach Young.
Look at this.
We have peace in our time.
Jim, back to you.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Always good to hear from the principals.
I now get a big second half coming up.
We have first half highlights, though, to show you and Dave Garner and Curtis.
Fun happen for you.
Okay, guys.
All right.
Thanks, Jimmy out 2418 at halftime.
And let's take a look back Curtis at these highlights And again, it's kind of slow scoring but there were some highlights in that was nice ball movement there passing in the middle of a Davis and she gave it to Allen for the later of course Wesleyan striking right there the Whitney twin sisters and of course right back on the other end the field goal for the hall from the outside there to kind of get some good scoring off his bench, which I think surprised was certainly was helpful.
Sarah Morris posting up inside there while ago.
And there you see Smith from outside get one to rattle in there as well.
And again, Wesleyan striking back strong in the beginning of that second quarter there.
But here you see off also getting lot three point shot right there as well from Peters.
Rutgers counters on the other end and Wesley really picks it up there at the end of that half.
Yeah, they started they started trapping the ball and moving and increasing the pace.
And that created a lot of open shots.
Opportunities.
11 of 32 field goals for Wesleyan, seven of 21 for Carroll County.
Again, turnovers ten though for the Lady Greenway.
But that's in here.
They're going to have to work on rebounds basically even a dozen for Carroll and ten for Wesleyan.
John Nelson standing by with coach Tami Jenkins.
John, what's up?
Thank you, Dave.
Here with head coach Tami Jenkins.
Let's talk about it.
It was a tale of two quarters, almost first quarter.
You were keeping them off balance offensively.
Yes, I thought defensively the first quarter we did a pretty good job except for our defensive rebound.
They were able to get a couple of offensive rebounds and put back.
But then in the second half, their guards picked up their playing.
They started hitting some outside shots.
So I was going to have to make some adjustments to that.
And I know that you were talking to the team at one time about too much, too many people on the outside.
Offensively, there wasn't enough presence in the paint.
What can you do to change that?
Perhaps just moving quicker, moving, recognizing, reading the reading, what's giving reading, you know what's there and more communicating.
You know, we start off pretty good in the first quarter, communicating, talking, but now kind of got a little flat loss.
I think we lost that intensity, especially if they got some baskets and took the lead back on us.
But the main thing I just told you guys have to stay focused.
We have to move forward.
It's not the games.
Nil is not over.
Tami Jenkins, thanks for your time.
We will have more of the Class two girls championship from May consider plex right after this.

This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station serving Atlanta and all of Georgia Wesleyan, up 2418 over Terrell County as we get set for second half action from the Macon Coliseum.
Again, the Double-A Girls championship right here on GPB.
Dave Gardner, Curtis Bunn with you.
John Nelson courtside in a John show.
An awesome dance moves there at halftime.
Yeah, I think maybe he's a little more pragmatic dancing with the Wesleyan will mascot over there back to action here and it was kind of a slow first half for both teams shooting the basketball but.
They picked it up a little bit right there at the end of the half.
Let's see if that momentum carries over Those last 33 seconds, the score was tied at 18.
And then questions get to three points by letter is going to get the six point advantage at the half today.
Davis, off to a good start there hits the opening bucket of the half for Delaney Greenway up and right back on the other end Sarah Moye on the Booker.
I think Wesley's figured out how he wants to play that is pushing that tempo before that defense gets set.
Otero County in front of the open young lady to shoot and it's an effective way to play for them because they're good shooters when they set Allen too strong on that one jump ball call possession arrow to Wesleyan we talked about Moye.
She's really been a big presence inside this year at six foot averaging right around 11 points a game just a junior.
You see a shot of that last one there, too strong there.
And of course, to the tie up right here, you need players like her, players who are committed to the team and don't worry about scoring, but playing all the ups, doing all the other things that matter, at least Whitney right there and the turnover back to the green wave, 2626 point game here, a minute into the third quarter shot from outside.
It's a three point shot.
It didn't go for Davis.
And now look first back at running on the other end if you Rutgers in a Tulane signee 20 points a game in the state playoffs she has been on fire always firing a pass inside they're back out boy from outside she's from there and I wanted to go out of bounds.
Do it again.
Boy, really big inside this year, really splitting time with Sarah duck and dunks.
But a very impressive freshman at six foot tall.
Both those girls, a good one to punch inside for Wesley.
It's good to have these young players getting experience as freshmen, 10th graders, 11th graders for next year will be much more experienced.
They contribute even more.
And looking down the roster, there are a lot of younger players on both teams, a lot of freshmen and sophomores in a lot on the.
That's how you build a strong team for years and years and years now going to be called on lockers right there at the start of it in the middle nicely teaming recognized with a good pass and she went up strong and forced the contact.
So we go to south the line right here this is on the first floor trying to close the gap.
She has to haul back and you can look at Davis's numbers today, five points, three rebounds.
Again, Davis, just a junior, guys there for Davis, six points today for Tony Davis ties her teammate Chantelle Allen for the team lead.
If you look north of eight points hitting back to back three pointers right at the end of that first half of the game hard rally in and out of there for a boy and a jump off ball possession arrow Terrell County in Terrell County has changed his defense.
He's playing a box one to Luckhurst see another shot of this right here underneath tie it up together.
Neither team's really been able to afraid to get in the face of the other.
Here's a steal right there blockers on the other end one on one lays it up and in rookie luckhurst in double figures now Greenway is back on the attack today Davis offensive foul on Davis that's going to be two on her and good defensive position right there in the center is that last basket by Walker's bucket and all the way around here uncontested too which little disturbing if you care about Maryland really up top with the basketball set at that office Ball is hounding lepers by herself.
Everyone else is in his own defense with the move.
Try to get rid of it.
Had it knocked away Davis on the other end.
Two on one beautiful pass lays it up and in right there for front three so feeders and look at what they did pushing that ball they know the best way to attack this team is to not let that defense get set but to get down before it does.
They move the ball and fouled.
And he called on Davis.
He wanted the jump ball thought I believe that's going to be three on her and is and I think that's an overzealous referee that time that was not a foul she reached in she had a ball she tied her up close play right here's that last bucket from Peterson Davis showing her passion ability to know look for the easy layup.
That's Taylor Halter, the five time junior in the 14 down a corner there.
Three point shot blockers wouldn't go more And I believe they're going to get her over the back offensively Jenkins is showing something over there as the coach she realizes that lacrosse has found her do genius on the perimeter Now she has hall hounding her in the box.
The one defense that I think kind of contributed to her taking a long shot, probably out of the range because she's a little frustrated that she can't get free.
And that's going to be the third foul on ceremony as well.
So each team with a big key player, three fouls.
So both teams got to watch out here, especially Davis and boy, the back on the other end it's the same play from the floor plan to the middle great pass No one stop impeded her progress in the lane and a terrific pass for an easy basket 2825 one possession basketball game There's a shot, Murray six points four more and back to a five point game here in Wesleyan and Terrell County going at it in the double AA girls State championship right here on GPB.
Glad you could join us.
There's Allen tough shot Got it to go and nice giving goal right there The defender who was guarding Allen relax after he made the pass and Allen wisely stepped to the basket for the return pass for that side three point shot.
good.
And now Peters off and running the other way to on to puts up the shot and a blocking foul underneath is going to be called on Carolyn Whitney for this team is doing exactly what coaches always said at halftime she did not want to position one of her girls to go inside first and then throw it back outside for the 43.8 that was available.
But to look inside right now, they look the strip is a jump shot.
Peters at the line 2418 Halftime Sports 3027.
Where's all this offense coming from I think the nerve getting it done it is missing on the first one There you see number 32 Sarah Delk indeed into the lineup she will come in for more who will sit with those 3000 if you look at Peters numbers five points and five boards the senior playing her final game with Carroll County.
The crowd looking at that one right there as it goes back to wrestling for the grumble from the Carroll County side.
The fair county hasn't been good at the at the foul line.
And that always comes back to play a role in a close ballgame.
That's for those upperclassmen will be key late in that ballgame right there is that experience will hopefully kick in for either team.
Erica Smith kicks it outside three point shot off the mark.
Don't try to get the foot back there, will draw the foul and go to the line.
And just as coach Diggins was talking about at halftime, giving up offensive rebound was a problem in the second quarter.
And here we are again allowing second shots for Western or 18 fouls apiece here in the second half.
And Gail gets the free throw.
Her first point today, Lisa Whitney will step back in for Wesleyan.
Joe will have one more here to see her run half so close to right there.
And Coach Azar very impressed with Sarah Elkins, especially being a freshman, being six foot tall there.
You know, we saw that last night, let's say fine scheme Kelly Kane at six.
We're only 14 years old.
I believe it is.
The talent in the state of Georgia in basketball is unreal.
We know about football, our talented basketball talent here on both sides, boys and girls.
I think really the last four years has really stepped up, particularly on the girls side of things.
Farrell Davis, of course.
Tasha Humphrey A little bit later on in games, some so many good players that that have gone on or will be going on to the next level.
And just to sit here and watch it is just like a highlight reel every game.
It is.
Maya moore but Collins Hill, the whole team.
Allen and that ball knocked away there.
But a foul is their second good, strong, aggressive drive to the basket which has forced the foul.
But Allen does have some size 510 a junior averaging right around a dozen points a game She really looks like the shooting man of the ball.
Well she got to the line her pre shot routine is such that she believes she's going to make it and looks like she's going to make it even before she shoots the ball.
Nine points per cent.
Gail Allen today and Allen in double figures for the Green Lane 30 to 29 back to a one possession game 320 in the third quarter and another foul I that was going to be called on theaters so all of a sudden a little bit of a little bit of foul trouble here for Terrell County and that's not a good thing because if you put them in the bonus West End is a very good free throw shooting teams.
The first is 86% herself on the year.
Courtney, if you will come out of the game number 32 winning.
She came all of five feet tall back there.
Jump off ball good job defensively that's where they are on today's jump ball.
Opening possession really hurts you.
They made a great, strong, aggressive defensive play, but they don't get possession backcourt pressure down by the Green lane but Wesley breaks out of there Good pass they get it ahead same but right back into the hands of Peters an offensive foul on the court on Peters and that's going to be my third foul and another dribble from the Greenway crowd here today Another shot at it right here.
It looked like blockers may have had their back.
There was some contact.
There may have been the first high school case I've seen on the block.
Caroline Whitney, Rutgers thought about it from three point range back to her now pulls the trigger from outside Short and Davis out of there with it off and running pulls up and I think that Bucks the winning defense really was effective it took Lakos out of the rhythm and she now has not made a start since Davis Optimist's puts up a tough shot hits off the glass pretty deep, understanding that this game means every game used the last game.
She has not taken Davis out three fouls that one in and out of there, Davis with ten points back on the other end, Erica Smith will kick it back out to Whitney.
Another Wesley, an offensive rebound Walker for three no good on the ball out of bounds and we'll go back to the green way and dynamic shoot it Luckhurst is a little frustrated right now.
You look at her body language as he walks back down the court, her head is down a little bit from the open opportunities as he feels like she knows he can make those shots and to not making it a little bit disappointing.
Davis And from way outside three point shot no good by Courtney Huge ball loose and it will go back to Wesley and Walker is two of ten from three point range today she does have ten points but she's gotten most of an inside yeah off transition points in the 12th Mary Merlino back into the game for Wesley and it looks like a timeout going to be called on the floor from Patty Jenkins.
Get over the fans, get a foul in here today again 30 to 31 and we've got a ballgame first with 159 to go in the third year.
Tarrant County is hanging in there.
Looked like Wesley was about to assume the momentum, but a key shot here, great defensive stop there.
And I think, again, the defensive strategy bouncing one or two letters really has changed Her outlook on what she can do.
It by way of that is effective, that kind of play.

So 32 to 31 after the timeout Danny Jacobs talking things over with her team.
She was a pretty good prep all-American center herself at one time.
Yes, he's tall, She's still lean.
I guess she still plays the ball since she was part of that state championship team back in 86.
It's Terrell County.
You get in here at 20 and six overall.
And I have gained the respect of fellow teams around the state.
And within a point right now of number two great Wesleyan Lady Vols with the basketball after the time out love first looking inside nice pass shot wouldn't go partially blocked Smith on the follow Stewart go and Davis out of there with it Those are is easy guys coach is always talking about at halftime and then that converted traveling called on hall so right back to the lady wolves in Wesleyan out of Norcross Georgia region eight double play as I mentioned just seven years for that program but wow, four straight trips to the Elite eight and a state championship.
Of course, back at two and Class AA making the jump to double.
And obviously it hasn't hurt to run.
Well, it does a great job of building the program.
The ball right there by Witten couldn't get the stat to go and never miss later today Davis numbers against her and a blocking going to be called right there on Erica Smith Yeah that's really really big right here that would have been Davis the score foul you see it had to come out of the game take another look at it They hit the floor pretty hard to hit.
She's right on his knees, bent over now as if she's in pain.
She's not looking toward the bench, though.
She certainly doesn't want to come out frustration on the face of Erica Smith who picked up that foul.
That's her second half, the inbound Nice pass.
Spencer Davis, tough shot off the glass wouldn't go without Bill Carroll County has very few offensively rebounds whereas Winston is getting them in bunches.
More will come back into the game for Wesleyan.
Coaches are getting in seventh season all seven years with the Lady Wolves program will turn wraps up shot wouldn't go to Rutgers ball still loose fights for her own shot gets it back and will draw the foul and good hustle there by Nicky Luckhurst Luckhurst is a little fiery there.
really?
So in fact, just the second time I saw her pushed a Carroll County player after the play.
See it again right here after the shot here.
I tell you, that tough kind of to be converted to a shooter.
When you want that space and you can't get it, it just impacts you emotionally.
And she's a little frustrated, but making some free throws certainly will help her regain her rhythm.
Okay.
With 11 points, five rebounds again, we see senior headed to the lady and it's a pair right there so it doesn't points collectors Latest 3431 under a minute left here in quarter number three moving right along at this double a girl state championship Nice pass inside there two Spencer couldn't get the shot to go jump ball ball possession error will stay Carroll Doughty that was a mismatch inside and stood right there of course Terrell County really considered a long shot coming in to the final four here but not necessarily just the state playoffs But this really proves the doubters this weekend is a testament to what Candy Davis has done in the end, a testament mostly to the girls, because they're the ones on the floor.
They hit the bye to the system.
They played real hard.
And again, Coach Diggins is someone who they really look up to and respect.
And so it's been easy for them to follow her lead.
Carolyn Whitney picking up her second foul there just a moment ago outside Courtney CU from three point land.
good.
Davis keeps it alive though can't get the shot to go forward.
Her own shot, three dances and the green way did it Davis with a dozen points one of the few times they hit that offensive board a nice little drive right there for winning wouldn't go kept alive by Allen another this year Peters today Davis pulls up tough shot wouldn't go and that's it after the buzzer and the score is 34 to 33 And this thing is going to be decided in the final 8 minutes from the Macon Coliseum.
We'll be right back.
Wesleyan hanging on by one.

Double-A Girls Action Wesley by off point over Carroll County as we get set for the fourth and final quarter of play, they've got a Curtis Bond with John Nelson courtside with us as well Wesley with the basketball and a one point lead this is not a championship game should be decided in the final quarter.
The tight game the one team making the plays to make the opening great backdoor cut right there by Carolyn Whitney.
That was PokerStars design play during the break.
The three quarters backdoor cut off the screen.
Beautiful execution three point lead lady wolves Cross-court Pass Courtney shoot from outside three point shot no good Davis keeps it alive and she will draw the foul now going to be on Dell and Davis seems to have sent some of her attention on getting some offensive rebounds.
They were really lacking in that department for two and a half quarters in the second half of the third quarter.
She picked it up in here at the start of the fourth.
She ended up as a rebound as well.
And that's what scorers need to do.
You need to be able to get your own offense, all four rebounds off of steals and awful fast break and that just from set plays Davis missing on the first but then you have to make your freedom That's not exactly here And the second one on the way from Davis and this is on hold right there for miss free throws for her We have big, big misses.
There's one back on the other end.
Carroll County, just one starting senior, four seniors on the roster.
So still a young team for coach there.
Taylor lost the handle on that one got it back cut shot would go for Whitney ball loose but a lethal and he keeps it alive if he luckhurst back outside and Nicky has an inch and headed to headed to the lady green way of herself of two lane taking on the great play today yeah nice pass but again this one is not converting the way it was back on the other end ball knocked away no ball there and a foul going to be called on Luckhurst and that is going to be three on her look as a very talented player very spunky.
You have to admire the small smart lady like that and play hard and come out there.
You see that ball knocked away.
Things go to the foul right there if he wanted that you here's got the foul If she's at the line here and a miss it look like a lane violation there's somebody in there too quick so again another missed opportunity at line I've seen so many games in this tournament where teams have had opportunities to put the other team away from the line or stay in the game and did not convert and really, really haunt at the end of year.
Beyond the ball back in the lineup for Terrell County, remember back there, boys couldn't get that shot to go slip out of her hand there a little bit athletic dream play of the again with the basketball there Davis pass off to Allen Allen very active in that first half four points this half she's got ten all together looking inside there Scott Spencer nice pass great pass inside and it would go unable to capitalize on that pass And again another miss basket inside.
Yeah Carolyn Whitney three point shot from way outside no good rebound and a blocking foul going to be called on Whitney and I believe that's going to be three on her in back to the line goes Davis she can't have a lot of confidence hold it Mr.
Trigger for the first time out going to be called by coach and Azar and the Wesley and Lady Wolves here.
And all of a sudden, Wesley now with three players sitting with three fouls, that could become pivotal as a game progression.
So so one left.
Carroll County also with a pair of players with three fouls, Peters and Davis, both Wesley and as we mentioned, quite a few semifinals.
Y'all talking about the second half and they got to do their job is picks.
Sounds like he said they will talk including which is which he alluded to at halftime communication.
You have to make your teammate know that the screen is there.
So that's the key they can react to it.
You all can react recently 601 left in the game and a three point game Wesley an up and Davis back at the line here for four as you mentioned on the last couple of trips he gets right there but this is to get him to go any more without making it 13 points today and 13 rebounds.
That's a strong game but they're going to need more.
Today, Davis hits a pair his property within one 3635.
They have garnered Curtis ton John Nelson with you in the first of two Double-A state championships today.
This, of course, being the girls game between the Wesleyan Lady Wolves and the Terrell County Lady Greenway Blockers off the mark in their last three, but Whitney kept it last, threw it out to boy, she's going to fire again way outside.
No good boy though, with it.
And Lady Rose again with another chance to strip stripped away Courtney Hughes running the floor passes ahead to Davis, shot from outside his hands and maintaining they stop and the turf so kind of crowd is really into it here they are fired up and both sets of fans into this thing.
Now I think Davis has gotten her second win.
She hasn't come out of the game.
Miscommunication right there.
Boy on the pass throws it out of bounds and began to cut to the basket.
And here's that last basket right here from Davis.
That's a beautiful pull up.
A defender was there waiting for her instead of attacking her for some context, he pulled up for the 12 footer.
Great decision.
And Karl Allen with the basketball over to Davis and back and forth here and it looks like Carroll's going to run a little clock off.
Yeah, this is a move, I hope now.
Okay.
I'm glad that they're playing the game because taken away by moist sage and into the hands of wonder, she saw the turnover story awhile ago.
17 Terrell County here, but still on top 5.3 shot from outside Sarah Dell number 32.
It was way too early to think about pulling the ball and a time out on the floor once again as Wesleyan reclaims a one point lead and we are back and forth here with 437 to play Wow here's that last one.
Yeah.
And for the impact of these shots that she shot was uncontested, would you surprise And I thought someone would run out there for Terrell County to defend their shot one point game, four and a half to play.

I want to miss Coach Denise.
Ah my God Lady wolves of course with that state championship two years ago.
They have the experience down the stretch here in a tight game.
You have to give them the edge there.
But as you said something you alluded to in that first half to county, maybe with the end with that that underdog, the edge, of course, going to them there.
As far as the emotion possibly.
Right.
The crowd is behind it is in the game only down by point 437 to play and his best player is really found her second win and made a couple of free throws and a nice fill up jumper.
And I think she's going to try to assume command of the game herself, play ball and leave it there.
After the timeout in under four and a half to play North Georgia versus South Georgia here to win this game.
Nice drive right there.
It just wouldn't go rally.
That hurts just a 40 and five a game last night at the arena but at center there's a shot from outside No good Another offensive board Whitney with another chance over to her twin sister now back in the lane Caroline cutting and gets her own west is moving the ball wins It seems to have much more energy right now until Kim that would take it away Rutgers will slow it down a little bit.
Lady Vols a reset here with 3222 left hander wouldn't go for Whitney back on the other end that is Peters dribbling here county looking to go deep with that time three point game 4037 under three and a half to go and Wesleyan crowd also starting to come alive as well lookers four of 16 Caroline Whitney four of 17 but some of the shooters had some jitters today.
But down the stretch here, we're going to be the ones to decide it for this.
DAVIS looks like a foul going to be called Boy, he gave her two free throws in there.
I thought she got fouled before she went up.
We're going to get more for that one.
That's going to be four on her boy, Randall in the lineup right now.
Coach Hayes going with the bigger lineup, pair of six footers inside there and it's paying off because they're getting so many offensive rebounds.
Second chances at halftime.
Western have taken 11 more shots than Terrell County, and that's indicative offensive rebounding.
Davis back at the line here, hits first in a big game for today.
Davis he only had three points at halftime but 17 since she's really tired, too, she hasn't come out even though she had three fouls.
Both takers didn't look like you thought about taking them out.
And that's the big draw right here.
Davis from outside three pointer is there and that'll give you a whole lot more energy.
20 for today.
Davis And she has found her rhythm in the second half 4140 Carroll County with a one point lead and under 3 minutes to play three second violation.
Wow.
I tell you what, that green wave crowd is fired up.
Here's at three point shot right here.
Pass key to the line.
She stepped in typically behind the line.
She's really feeling good about her shot.
And man, this is great.
That was nice of Courtney here with the basketball there gives off to Spencer.
nice pass inside there Davis reverse layup would go follows her own shot stripped away Wesley she's down at the other end holding her ankles That's an identity she's on the floor Ball live though lady wolves and boy with the easy way in right there boys playing with four fouls has eight points.
And now they will stop right here.
Anthony Davis They shake it up.
She lay it down on that floor.
They're probably for a good 30 seconds.
Yeah, she was banging court really in pain.
I know she part of the pain was there.
She thought she got a foul from that play.
She really hustled to get her own rebound, went back up strongly, got it blocked and so she felt like there was a foul there and they actually went back the other way and she didn't want to come out of the game.
She's actually being, as you could see, pulled off the floor physically by Coach Jenkins right there.
She did not want to come out there.
You can look at the time outs, Wesleyan with four Carroll County with just one left here and still 215 to play.
And you see on the bench what a significant turn of events right there.
Where's the offense going to come now for Terrell County after that Spencer with the basketball trying to get rid of it does so into the hands of Allen outside Peters for three yes that's where fun Peters loose that's a good nit right there look guns in these games and 4442 under 2 minutes to play and what a turn of events and this thing has really gone back and forth all afternoon what a game And now the crowd really isn't into it.
On Terrell County side, that's not the way Lakers counted.
On the other hand, it's a three.
You just knew she was going to make that which he did against Randolph playing is indicative of the kind of things he is going to play.
Nicki Luckhurst but 15 points and it's a game on the line.
Both teams is trying to step it up here and Davis is at this point they were ready to take back into the mix.
Next they're going from outside.
Spencer wouldn't go knocked out of bounds and back to Leslie that was an ill advised I don't think that that's the kind of sad to see once that Coach Dickinson was there.
Take it.
Here's that three point shot from Nikki Love Luckhurst encountered on the other in there.
Look at her reaction after making Fired Up.
She's been a leader all year long and as I mentioned, a four year record for Wesleyan of 111 and 15 and just a young program that has had a lot of success.
Meanwhile, Terrell County, of course, the state championship back at 86. we got to try to get back there today.
you got both teams fired up here.
And after the timeout that 3544 Wesleyan up by one minute, 13 left and they will have the basketball.
You see Nikki Luckhurst, who has had a phenomenal career at Wesleyan and a great senior season, hoping to cap it off with the state championship.
Just three of three heat, three of 13 from beyond the arc today from Rutgers.
But a big win there long ago.
Well, Courtney, she was assigned to go after his after she got too close.
And of course, he's not on it.
But could take his head denied, deny, deny.
Rutgers Wesleyan trying to work that clock here a little bit under a minute now you're going to have to see Liz Simmons to the free throw line.
If you can't get it done in the next few seconds, you need to stop that clock.
40 seconds with 43 seconds left today, Dame is back in there waiting and trying to run it.
Carroll County seeing if they can get a turnover but couldn't.
So now they are forced to foul and Peters with the foul right here I mentioned earlier Rutgers is 86% on the season and the free throw line there being players who would love to have that free throws again Wesleyan for a fourth haven't been to the line much but they made it count.
Carroll County again missing a few there but still some pretty good numbers in this.
There's of an eight misses just having Hampton those misses would have been exactly Rutgers 15 points today and get five rebounds and it's the first 16 points now for Nicky Luckhurst averaging around 19 a game on the season she's averaged 20 throughout the state playoffs for us 17 points for Nicky Luckhurst hits a pair.
Those is big right here.
There was no doubt this thing was going to make it 4744.
Still a one possession game though, but just 32 seconds left and they need to have a little bit more urgency than what they saw right here today.
Davis She wants to bring her way out there and that's way off the mark as well.
And yeah, like you said, I don't think that's exactly the shot.
They want to get there from that far out.
No way.
She's not healthy.
It gets the angles ball a little bit.
Just a bad decision.
They could have actually gone for two points there and then fouled to stop the clock.
A game.
At least Whitney dribbling gets rid of it.
That whole thing that's Allen with the basketball and really taking away their ball loose on the floor bodies everywhere and possession will be it looks like this Carroll County here.
Okay time out fall their heads up.
Play with 8 seconds left.
Man man.
Well, if Coach Deakins has a three point play, this is the design right here this time.
Obviously.
Court I would imagine that West is going to pay special attention to today.
So someone else may days may have to be adequate in this scenario to free up another here in 5 seconds.
Diagraming foul play here.
Azar and it's a boys game coming up between Randolph Play and Carver just like this.
And we're going to have a great afternoon of basketball.
I tell you, the girls in this tournament all last few weeks, they really competed hard and had some great, great finishes.
Carroll County, with no timeouts left but just 8 seconds left.
Look what Peters just made a big three Spencer off the inbounds Allen outside look at three puts up the shot going to be short ball still loose one second left a shot is there for Spencer but it's not enough and the Wesley lady wolves have held on by a point to win it 47 to 46 capturing the 2004 class double state championship.
Congratulations to Wesleyan.
What a game out.
A friend.
I'd say congratulations to Wesleyan.
That's the team that earned this championship.
They played hard, they played smart and they did what they needed to do at the end with free throws.
Hats off to Terrell County as well.
The Lady Green wave may not have won today.
They fell just short of a state championship.
I'll tell you what, they have gained a lot of respect around the state of Georgia.
Did so this weekend.
Just an unbelievable win, a commendable after a group of small young ladies.
No one much out of them.
They expected a whole lot of themselves.
It really produced the whole year.
But today belongs to the Wesleyan Lady Wolves, Jon Nelson standing by with the winning coach here with Coach Azar.
You can officially breathe now with the way that game finally ended.
Yeah, You know, and again, Nicki Locker's came up big and.
She has all season, so she's great.
I'm going to miss her.
I wish she could stay another year.
Talk about the legacy that these two seniors are leaving with them, the legacy that putting on now with the second state championship.
Yeah, there's depth is definitely a legacy of our younger kids ready to do this.
And each year they come and watch this game.
You know, we didn't make it last year, like I said that we wanted even more.
So, you know, our plan is to enjoy this now for the next few months and then get ready for next year.
Now, with everything and how it has.
You and I were talking before the game, you had admitted that Terrell County was somewhat underrated.
You kind of knew what you were getting yourself into here today.
Did, my gosh, in number 20 and 15 play some basketball in Del County?
They should have been up in the rankings all season long.
I wish I had known about him sooner so I could plan a little bit better, but we enjoyed playing them.
Great competition, great state championship game.
I think it just came down to at the end who who got that last shot and fortunately it was us because they deserved it too.
You get the last shot.
Jennings Our congratulations State, champ.
The Wesleyan Lady One's back today.
And Curtis Locke first against scoring the last five points of the game for Wesley.
And they are state champs Double-A boys Action coming up right here at the Macon Coliseum.
