And good afternoon, everyone.
Back at the Georgia Dome, more semifinal, high school football action here on Georgia Public Broadcast.
David Hubbard and Phil Proctor here with you today.
It's a Double-A matchup between the Buford Wolves and the Fighting Irish in Dublin.
Buford, another good squad.
They've won three straight state titles, and once again, they are packed with athletes.
And I'll tell you what, first of all, I'm over my turkey coma, so I should be good for today.
You know, when you get to championship ballgames, you normally have to have a great defense.
But another thing you got to have is great senior leadership.
And that's exactly what we've got today.
You've got Yvonne Bonang.
I mean, what a truly, truly terrific athlete, 732 yards, six touchdowns, 79 rushes, I mean, averaging 9.2 yards a carry.
And the other thing that you got to have also is another guy that can complement him, and that would be Marques Daniels.
Now, this guy is a horse 138 rushes, 1271 yards, 25 TDs, and a 9.2 average amazing athlete.
Dexter Woods squad has lost one game in four years, and he talked about this year's team.
Our offensive scheme is we're pretty traditional.
Our formation, we only run four or five running plays, but we'll probably mix it up with a lot of movement motion throw when we have to.
We don't like to throw running or running the ball is kind of our key.
And when we're being successful offensively, we're having some say, some success running the football on defense for four three and we're pretty well basic with that to mix up our coverages a little bit.
But we're still pretty old fashioned in terms of having just basic schemes and believing that players win games and not necessarily schemes.
And their opponent.
Today the Dublin Fighting Irish three losses on the year but two of those by forfeit.
So they're a good squad and I tell you Phil, they've got some athletes, too.
But I tell you what, that's senior leadership once again.
And we talked about Coach Holmes and some of the guys that he has playing for him.
One of the big guys, Chris Pooler.
I mean, this guy is amazing, 1100 yards, 15 TDs, 157 rushes.
I mean, and oh, I forgot.
These guys are a two way player has 53 tackles seven for losses and a quarterback said very active he has another partner that he also plays with by the name of the various doll and I was working with my various I love that name 744 yards eight yards a carry 14 TDs, 87 rushes and also plays defense three sacks, 50 tackles for loss, one interception, great ball game today we got two great teams, two great seniors.
And the coach is Robert Holmes.
We asked him about this year's team.
Well, offensively, we run out of the Delaware winning T style offensive system.
We feel like that we're pretty multiple in that we use a lot of formations.
We run the option game out of the wing t and and we've had a good year throwing the football.
We don't throw it a great deal but like our quarterback right now is throwing about 16 touchdown passes and three interceptions.
So our turnover ratio been very good offensively.
Defensively, we're a fourth grade team.
Probably our strength is our front seven where you're starting for sophomores in the secondary.
So, you know, our defense runs to the ball really well.
Buford In Dublin, our matchup today and there's a third member of our broadcast team.
Let's throw it down, the Davids Koski on the field.
David.
Thanks a lot, guys.
As if Buford doesn't have enough weapons already.
We'll turn to the kicking game where senior Patrick McGoohan handles those duties.
He's six of nine this year and field goal attempts, including a 42 yarder, 62 of 64 and point after attempts.
But Coach Wood will tell you one of his most dangerous weapons is punting.
He has those high, high punts that hang up there forever.
And four times last week against Brooks County, he dropped him dead inside the 20.
And as you guys know, it's hard for any team to drive that far that many times against this tough Buford Day.
Back up to you guys.
All right.
Thanks, David.
Double action coming up.
Buford versus Dublin.
It's high school playoff football here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Yeah, let's get started.
Let's get started.
Let's get started.
High school football on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
David Hubbard along with Phil Proctor.
It is our second day of coverage here, 25 hours of semifinal on high school football from the Georgia Dome.
It's a match up here as the high school of Dublin, the Fighting Irish taking on the Buford Wolves.
BUFORD In four years, Bill, they have lost one game 56 and one Dexter Woods Club is over the last four seasons.
So Dublin's got their hands full.
And they definitely do.
I mean, and Coach would have done a great job with that leave the team and they lost a lot of seniors last year, but they came back.
A lot of guys, a lot of heart just put a lot of hard work in.
You know, you got two summer camps they go to and all the workouts like you don't have to go through, man, but this is a great Buford team.
And there you see the wolves all time state mark.
They won 47 in a row with the win over Union County back in early September.
That streak came to an end the next week against a5a squad from central Gwinnett, a good center on that team.
We are underway and the kick off is taken at the four yard line.
Double digit hits is put on their return man and the Fighting.
Irish will start inside their own Swansea.
That was Dwight Griggs.
Excuse me, Drew Griggs on the return.
And here comes the offense for Dublin.
The quarterback is Ben Cochran, just a sophomore, 670 yards rushing, four completions for him, 13 touchdowns against just two interceptions.
I don't have cooler and dollar in the backfield with him.
Matlock.
Matlock.
Yes, he will drew one thing.
And here is the get the Chris Paul, the Fuller, the thousand yard rusher this year.
He'll get about three yards.
Before he is brought down by Trey Hunsaker.
Here's the lineup upfront.
Johnson and Sellers, the Smiths and Mobley, the Center and Big Nick at 320 is a division one prospect there in the middle and then they come out to the hut from the huddle second down and a gain of five on first down.
There's that ranked offense.
Now they'll pop in motion.
Jonathan Walters, the tight end, one sec back behind.
Cochran coming around and trying to turn the corner.
He will not do it.
There's that Buford speed there, smallish four by Buford standards.
But they are quick.
Michael Johnson, the sophomore in the tackle there.
There you see Owens Merrill Singleton and Gilder Meyer, the big guys up front, hunt, sucker, black and skipper, and then the back defensive backfield Taylor pried more of ag and Tucker and of the defensive end Thor son of the former Falcon is that Jeff Marrow broke down defensive end in a West Virginia number 75.
With his third down.
Now they need five to keep this drive alive man in motion little play action and got has gone deep over the middle had a man but overshot it.
Brandon Taylor got behind the defense, but Cochran couldn't.
Connect with him.
So it'll be fourth down for the Fighting Irish.
No, they coach Holmes talked about the idea that it's a very multiple type of offense that they run.
You don't know exactly where they're going or what they're going to do.
And I mean, you got all of this motion going on and shifting.
It can probably cause some confusion for that defense of the Wolves.
Johnson Back deep and it's going to be the quarterback confident during the panic good snap got a lot of pressure gets it away pretty good kick Johnson takes it to 42 calls their catch and that's where the.
Wolves will start on their first offensive possession.
Ex-Coach Dexter Wood talking to his quarterback Justin Roper, almost 1000 yards through the air this year, eight touchdowns against just one interception, completing about 55% of his passes.
And just as a just a junior.
So he's got another year and a 3.6 GPA to boot.
So he's a sharp leader of this wolves offense I formation in the standridge the deep back nine and comes in motion first down the 43 yard line.
The beauty of these guys is getting the ball and he spends his way towards midfield gets about five yards we'll call it it'll be second down and five standridge here you see him 1200 yards rushing for him, 25 scores.
The guys up front, Singleton and the Singleton's your tackles the guards Owens and Kenzie Mathis your center and in the backfield you've got Zander at the big running back with AG Yeah back there with him Tucker Hendrix the wideouts Merrow is the tight end Take it down four yards to go.
They gave him six yards on that first.
Garrett Come on and pitch it again to him.
And this time he gets into Dublin Territory and he's right there at the sticks brought down by Dollar and Chopper Foskett also in there to hit him.
Now you want to take a look at it, watch number 78 and then just pursue down the line Big Nick, boom, right there.
You got a big man that can move that fast, go down the line.
I mean, he just causes havoc.
Also, you got the defense, these guys, when they move to the ball very well.
It's third and short, though.
They held him out there.
You see Nick Mobley there on the front line in motion up front.
Dublin appears to be almost offsides here, third down and a yard to go.
They get to the fullback and he will get.
The yardage he need that JD Black on the carry.
The senior doesn't get it off and 277 yards rushing this year for him the defensive front Ian Smith on the defensive lineman Smith another and Mobley up front for the fighting Irish linebackers are cooler and Barnes and in the secondary you'll find Coxwell, Morris Edmond and Ryan Wilcher first down for the Buford.
Wall about 4 minutes in here and they go to Standridge and he's got some running room breaks through.
One tackle still on his feet inside the 2015 hand down to near the five yard line.
Go Standridge a gain of 40 yards.
Ryan Wilcher saved the touchdown.
What an outstanding run by Standage.
You know, you look at him, you don't think he has a lot of speed.
He runs about four or five when he got out there on that corner.
And then you could do and look at.
That average per carry 9.2 yards.
He had 245 yards.
What's the cut.
Back?
A nice bump out block.
Chase BURNETT, stiff arms.
One man in the secondary.
It keeps going and there's Wilcher to keep him out of the end zone.
You know, it could be a long day for the my folks over here in Dublin.
Standridge is the focal point of this offense, like I said, against Antigua, 250 yards he had.
In that playoff game.
I give you the full back here is a change of pace and.
Not much doing there.
Big number nine Blake skipper and skipper picks up on give him a couple of yards taking down and goal at the six so he didn't gain anything.
He got a very stingy defense over there.
MAN Look at the Irishman.
They just kind of just cut off all the holes.
Wouldn't let anybody through.
I think you go see a lot of that.
This game Roper brings him up second down and goal is the six yard line of Dublin.
A lot of motion here before the snap.
But the information was standridge.
The data that I now run this way where the left side tries to cut inside a tackle does and a shoestring tackle keeps him out of the end zone.
That was Mobley.
They kept him from getting in.
Good, blocking up front by the wolves.
Everybody just putting the hat on somebody.
And there's a hole just developing.
Good back.
All he just needs to see is a little bit of daylight.
Wobbly, £320, a big senior.
And some colleges have their eye on him.
Standridge has lived up to the billing here.
He's got a 40 yard run already and it's third down.
And two for the wolves back and on the right side.
And it gives Dandridge bounces off the line and tries second effort to get there.
I don't think he will make it.
Because Nick Mobley was there to meet him about half a yard short of the goal line.
Dave, this is.
What you talk about about a goal line stance.
The object is who's going to get their pants lower than the other defense actually won that battle.
They got lower than the offensive line.
Big Nick, that's my hero, man.
I'm following Nick all day.
The big fella in the middle made the play and the ball is just about less than a length from the goal line on a fourth and goal for the Wolves.
SANDERS The black in front of him.
And they'll give it to Stanford and he gets in there.
Touchdown!
Wolves!
Mark Standridge.
His 26 score of the season.
It's in from one yard out in the wolves who scored first here six to nothing.
Great play on that right side.
It almost looked like the defense got to hesitate it not knowing exactly you know if it was going to be a pitch or if the quarterback was going to keep it.
Patrick McGlynn is the senior kicker, 59 out of 60, make it 60 out of 61 this year and the wolves had the early seven nothing lead standridge sets it up with a 40 yard run and gets a chance to finish it here.
Deep toss, looks for a weak spot and gets there on the right side.
Well, as he followed his man, Singleton and Owens into the end zone.
He's got a lot of bodies flying around them.
And all you do is just make up your mind.
You're going into the end zone.
That's exactly what he did.
So stange was getting.
Congratulations.
There's a good crowd on hand here for the double a semifinal match.
25 hours of playoff coverage here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
I had a lot of fun yesterday as Charlton County came out the winner.
And that's who the winner of this game will play in the title game for Double-A Midland has it teed up in Back Deep.
We've got the Wiltshire, Brian and Brandon.
Brandon the senior number one, Ryan just a sophomore.
Jake is a good one.
All the way back to the middle of the end zone goes Brian Brandon Wiltshire and we're finding Irish will have to start at the 20 yard line.
Eight plays, 57 yards on that scoring drive, just over 4 minutes off the clock and Standridge gets the final yard for the points.
Yeah, wolves with that 47 game winning streak to set the all time mark earlier this year.
Here's the offense, Conklin under center and in motion off the wing.
Go give it to the tailback and that is the Bears dollar dollar.
Trying to make something out of it.
It's maybe two yards.
You stacked up in the middle, Hunsaker in black got a piece of him for Mero in there, as well.
As good blocking on that offensive lineman.
Watch my boy, Nick.
He gets them up, he get some turn.
And there it is.
Doesn't look like a lot.
But, you know, you started getting one, two, three yards at a time and just I'm just part of that all.
I know you love those old guys in the trenches.
Why?
They got to be old guys, man.
Think about you.
Oh, okay.
Thanks.
Doug.
It down to negative two on first down four down here.
Go in motion this time and it's a keeper.
By the quarterback Cochran faked it until Colon went around went around right in and didn't pick up much defense from there the weight on marrow again on that stuff.
The very active world defense also very strong, very stout in their.
Pool of the guy that had 1000 yards in the regular season.
But dollars come up huge in the playoffs, over 200 yards against Calhoun for the Bears third down.
They need four yards to keep this drive alive is going to be a pass over the head of his.
Intended receiver, Brandon Taylor.
Taylor a little slant on the outside, but he was not open the nag out there on the coverage and it will bring up a fourth down Johnson number four back deep again.
As you say, what would have been a great play had he been able to catch the ball.
Would have been.
But the Fighting Irish got a punt it away.
Cochran again will handle the punting duties, pressure coming, gets it away a little bit low.
Johnson may have a chance now.
He just gets out of the way and Dublin will down.
It at the 44 yard line.
Coach Dexter Woods ten years.
He's already got 116 wins, to his credit.
And of course, coach, a long time in Marietta had lots of success there as well.
You talked about that senior leadership early amount.
What was Buford have six senior starting seven these guys got a lot of playoff experience.
And got three titles in a row to show for Roper under center in motion dumps.
Four net for man front for the Irish play action and he's going to go down there is Nelson is going to be recovered by Dublin looks like big head fly.
By Chris pooler.
And let's see who has the football the Irish certainly think they recovered it.
Watch.
Now it looks like that the wolves stolen from underneath the pile.
There you see pooler with a big head.
Oh.
And a great chance for the Irish to cover.
But they could not do it.
Foster Chopper, fancy this game in there too hard.
Split right over the top of the ball so the wolves recover back at their own 39 and it's second.
Down and 15 to go.
There's a pitchside van breaks to another tackle block in front of him, puts his head down, dives across the 45 to about the 41 to Dublin.
And that's exactly what's Coach Coach Holmes was talking about earlier, what the concern was to be able to get the standards, the ball and then to be able to turn upfield and this run over people as well.
Not safe, right?
Two tackles.
Then he had his wide out Hendrix in front of him, throwing a block and ends up getting yardage in the 41 yard line of Dublin.
Under 4 minutes to play in the first quarter.
Wolves up seven, nothing on that emotion like welcome going to give it to the fullback and he's got a running room in the secondary.
Goes Blake skipper skipper that'll give him 100 yards for the year he didn't carry a much nice move in the early going there to avoid to use his blocker and then he gets in the secondary and it's finally brought down by Brandon Edman.
Give a lot of credit to that Buford offensive line.
It just opened up a tremendous hole.
Another first down.
Ball at the 30 yard line, one right out, two on the right side and a formation behind John Roper.
Excuse me.
Here's the give again to Standridge and Mark short gain on that play.
He was stopped early by number 42 dolla to take a gain of two yards.
You know one thing about, you know, we talk about this team and Dublin being young.
Well, a lot of the seniors on Buford team and you know, didn't get a lot of playing time as you so you really got a lot of experience as far as senior leadership.
A lot of he's got to lose.
And get a lot of fans out last year.
But not on one side, Hendrix on the other.
Merrill going in motion here.
It's Hendrix going right to left.
Gordon Standridge again, cuts it back, spins his way towards a 25 yard line.
And runs again into Big Nick Mobley, along with Tony Smith, number 59.
So you think you're going to be calling Big Nick's number all day?
That was certainly looks that way.
They they need about three guys to hold him in check.
Look, I love his jersey, man.
The 78 just goes all over.
I mean, that's that's a man's jersey right there.
I mean, look at Nick.
That means.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
It looks like he's holding his left elbow, too.
He probably took a shot there.
That three guys sitting in the once still making play third down, they need four to keep this drive alive and a little motion up front.
And I think they're going to get the yardage reps at the end just a little eager and.
Those five yards will be enough for a first down.
Smith was just trying to get you get a head start.
And I mean, you know, you got the lights and everything.
You got TV cameras on and he's just ready to play.
Now, the officials discussing now they can move it up and that will be might.
Be first down.
There it is first down first and ten for the wolves inside the 20 of Dublin already up, seven nothing.
Three receivers on the left side.
Down by rocker.
They give it to his tailback he bounces outside that's inside the ten still on his feet.
Touchdown The alternative on the snag His first carry of the ball game and he's got his seventh touchdown of the year And the wolves are up 13 nothing Dave that you see.
The way he just exploded out of.
That backfield found.
On the spot and just hit a straight for the corner of the end zone.
Then you see the speed that has the college scouts drooling over.
And we'll get a look at the replay in a second.
Here's the extra point by McGowan Roper holds it and the kick is good 14 nothing wolves with a couple of nice scoring drives that's a benefit of a couple of penalties in a a fumble recovery in their own backfield there you see him breaking it to the outside and just outruns Jake's one tackle as Wilcher had it for a second, but he outran everybody else and Evan in there for the score 20 yards and his team leads it 14.
Nothing.
But that's exactly what four four speed will do for you.
You know, a lot of times you don't have to have the power if you can get the speed.
Take a look at this.
Amazing how.
Just the quickness man of these kids, man.
And he's like, he pinches £305.
So these are just like small running backs.
They're not weak.
Six plays, 51 yards on the drive, just over 3 minutes, and especially a 19 yard touchdown run.
And Matt Hahn, you saw in the replay with.
A great block to help him get in the end zone.
So now they'll look it up.
One puts the toe to it.
Fair play.
Here comes a.
Return by Wilson down the bring it over here to the inside Got a couple of blocks if he can get to that one man he could not.
A nice open field tackle by Thomas Dixon.
Though Dublin finding itself down two touchdowns.
Let's see what Ben Cochran in this Irish offense can get done.
They've been held in check so far.
There you see the return.
And he brings it over to the left side and a nice open field tackle by Dixon.
You've been inside the 30 yard line.
27 will be the start of this drive for the Irish.
Now get back here and get the World Series across the 30.
Took a hit, but Blake Skipper got him gain of about four yards.
Put it at the 31 yard line.
Dave One of the challenges in trying to really stop this win t offense is one.
If you don't see it a lot, it's hard to defend it.
And so the more familiar you are with it, the better you can defend because you've got motion going everywhere.
You've also I mean, I'm sitting up here looking at it and I know I can't figure it out.
So many options back there for Cochran to go to.
That time, he told Jos Wilcher he.
Had a nice run.
He argues for about seven yards a carry with the.
Man, this time in motion and the deeper by the quarterback that play blown up by that front three of the wolves Hunsaker the guy that got there and made Cochran have to eat that ball for a loss.
Just playing tough D staying at home.
He said I'll get in there as well.
For Maryland, that's a football name for Merrill.
See, I could change my name for Proctor.
Just don't have a singing ring to it.
But it's a lot of pressure when your name thought, Yeah, but he seems to be up to it.
He's the guy that will probably play on Saturdays as well next year.
Third down now and eight yards to go for the Irish play action.
Throw it away from pressure.
Goff is going to run it.
He's going to have it up yard for the first down.
Yeah, JD.
Black chased him out of bounds, but that's the big game inside the outside the 40 yard line to about the 41/1 down first one of the day for the Irish.
We know Cochran's not a bad runner.
He had 153 yards on the ground on a regular season.
Got a little bit of speed, the sophomore does and showed it there and gives his team a first down as the first quarter clock will wind out as soon as they break that he did go stop the clock.
So one more play here left in this quarter.
Drills are going in motion and the gift to the halfback.
And Chris Poole Fuller will fall forward for a yard or two and that will do it 14 nothing.
Buford lays it after 12 minutes of play.
You're watching the semifinal action here.
Georgia Public Broadcasting 14 nothing.
Buford leading Dublin after one quarter.
And there you see with a freshman for Buford is stolen the mascot head for the fighting Irish that's Demetrius Murry having a little fun on the sideline Dublin with a tough first quarter but they're on the move here.
And a team no stranger to going on the road, Bill, this team is came in as a third seed and they've played away from home this entire postseason.
Yeah.
You want to talk about how many mouths they put on?
I got a stat I'll share with you a little bit later.
Buford up 103 to 27.
Total yardage wise, after 12 minutes, there's a farce and that is the big belter has it.
And he's in the Buford Territory and has enough for a first down and then a late.
Flag coming in.
Brandon Wilcher eight catches for 144 yards and a couple of scores for him.
And we might have a we look at the tackle and somebody put.
A helmet in.
Yep.
There you go.
That was beanbag.
Came in with the hat.
You can't do that.
And that is going to tack on 15 yards to that play.
There ball personal file a first down.
When Langford Allen Sergeants in Tipton, Stephen Hayes.
Avery Niles and Jim Benefield our officials today there you see Yvonne just a little eager to make it be part of that play but he led with his helmet and Dublin gets 15 yards there at the.
Houston 31 yard line here in this league.
The Wilcher got a couple of blocks.
But just too many white jerseys on that left side.
And he will pick up only a yard or who actually did not get back to the line of scrimmage.
Talking about that team defense and what's beautiful, just go straight down the line, everybody.
Just keeping an eye on the back, all converging to the ball.
And that's what you want to see in the defense, man.
You want to see three or four or five guys going to the ball all the time.
They're strong.
That play out and not enough blockers to put hats on those defenders.
So no gain on the play.
Second down and ten Brandon Wilcher splitting out way to the right nobody behind quarterback Cochran in this seven gonna come in motion They try to give it to him in the Balkans loss.
And Buford claims they have it they do fumble by the fighting Irish Brandon Gravett the one who fell on it.
Number 63 and the wolves in the scoring threat by the finding Irish.
They've got all these multiple looks.
I don't even did he, I don't even think he got control of the ball.
That didn't look like Oliver's dollar.
No, he never got it in there.
Just never wrapped up.
And the recovery made by the wolves and they take over at their own 34 yard.
Line up, 14 nothing here early stages of quarter number two to watch the nearside big hit the secondary.
Guess who let me guess what his number be 78 you know it standridge on the carry and Nick Mobley unblocked came through and just blew away that front offensive line for Buford look at that.
But here's the thing.
You have to give that offensive line.
He's trying to do his job, but you got to give credit to Nick Mobley.
His this big man got speed.
And that's the thing about it.
You can't teach speed.
He just knows how to react to the football.
The guard who pulled out the lead, the sweep and nobody on Mobley.
He makes the tackle blocks at four legged and 14 back in the 39 in that motion and the ball is loose back of the 15 yard line lob and run the green jerseys back there trying to get it second time Buford has fumbled the ball they recover.
That last one may not be so lucky.
Here now and they get back.
They are beanbag.
Back there to jump on it again.
So Buford dodges another bullet.
They let me tell you one of the things that happened that time.
Normally linemen have a split of about a yard apiece.
That time it looked like it was between the center and the guard.
Looked like it might have been about a yard and a half, maybe two.
That gap was created.
He had no choice but to go through it third down and 30 and the ball once again.
This time the Irish have it.
Dublin will take over at the 16 yard line.
The pitch bounced off Standridge his chest and it rolled right to number six.
Brandon Edman, the sophomore, one of the four sophomores in that secondary and Dublin takes over once again.
I don't think he had his eyes on the ball.
Nope.
Looked up to try and look where he was going to run.
That's one turnover.
Now there's a Buford put the ball in the turf three times.
Got lucky to recover the first two, but.
This time they've given the Irish great field possession and the walk 16 yard line walk tackle run.
That's pooler and Chris will pick up maybe three yards second down and seven coming Chris over 1100 yards on the ground this year.
See the play again.
They faked a wide run the dollar and they gave it to the fullback and he will get a couple of yards.
Second down at the 13 seconds, seven double trying to get on the board here.
Here comes down the sweep and going nowhere.
The wolves were there waiting.
BLAKE Skipper in there.
Johnson Got ahead in there as well.
HUNSAKER What was the lineman?
Just pull.
He's just looking to kick out somebody all of a sudden.
Unfortunately, Buford, with all that speed, just seems to fill those holes real quick.
With seven men in there on that tackle.
So now it's third down.
They still need six yards.
Just one out of three so far in their third down conversions.
Give the dollar, give it to Wiltshire on a little reverse in Wiltshire, not get the first down.
Brandon trying to cut back inside a block.
But again the wolves are ready.
You see that team speed and a gain of just a couple of yards.
It's going to be fourth down.
I like the quarterback.
It just makes, you know, it makes a little block, you know, always talking about quarterbacks, try to keep it close, clean.
You got one that's pretty close.
Winning the one hit him and it's fourth and five and the Irish will go for down 14.
Nothing notes.
Roger Holmes decides that they need some points.
More than three.
They need seven.
Here Holder is his lone setback.
Conklin wants to throw a little faith pattern and it is caught for the touchdown.
Brandon Taylor and the Fighting Irish are on the board.
Ben Cochrane finds a sophomore.
Brandon Taylor and the deficit is now just eight points.
14 to 6.
Great pass.
It takes no front.
All you're doing is just some ball snap.
You just sit there, hold your man.
Nice.
Toss in the air.
Great athletic ability, shield yourself.
Looks like you got hurt.
I did.
Pride Moore.
Yeah, man on coverage.
I mean, he got a hand caught up in there.
Extra point no.
Good.
14 to 6.
So Dublin recovers the fumble by the wolves and just 16 yards is all they needed to go They were able to do it.
The big play Cochrane finding his wideout Taylor for the touchdown there you'll see it again.
Yeah.
Pride Moore must have jammed a hand in there, got caught up under the shoulder pads and Taylor hauls it in for the score.
14 to 7.
And now the Dublin fans start to make a little bit of noise here for play 16 yards.
You see it 11 yards on the scoring toss just over 2 minutes off the clock.
So we've got 7 minutes, 17 seconds to go in our first half, 14, seven oh, Drew Griggs will be the one kicking off for the Irish.
Here we go to the team for the fifth time looking for help.
And across the 20 bean still on his feet, still breaking tackles down the line, 30 yard line.
He ran through about six arm tackles before finally the kicker able to knock him out of bounds.
They've got only one.
Word to describe.
Elusive.
Yes, that's coming right here.
You see it again?
He Yvonne going right side.
That's one tackle.
There's another arm tackle.
There's a third fracture on the outside.
A fourth man, he shoves off.
And finally, the kicker bumps him out of bounds at the 37 yard line.
No substitute for speed.
Oh, wow.
So the wolves sloppy so far.
Offensively, they've got two touchdowns and they let the ball hit the turf three times in the fired up Dublin defense will hold Standridge to no gain.
Will Griffin leading the charge on that one.
It'll be second down and nine.
They give him a half yard.
You see the momentum starting to shift toward Dublin.
Crowds getting fired up.
I know you're getting fired up, Dave.
I can tell over here you have to be here.
These Dublin Irish down 14, nothing bouncing back here.
They're going to manage the turnover to get on the board rover that's a black JD it's across the 45.
Tackled in the secondary finally by Wilcher but that's a pickup of seven or eight to bring up third and short.
Watch the great kick out block he has 76 moves all you got to do is just create a wall.
You got a great back.
He can find the hole great blocking up front.
I do like to spend a lot of time talking about that offensive line.
They make it happen.
Black You see him averaging six yards per carry standards and he will not get there he is dropped in the backfield by Thomas Barnes.
Number two and loses a yard and now the wolves are going to have to punt it away.
Coach Holmes was, you know, concerned.
He's got a young team, as you see, 25 tackles.
And Mr. Barnes, he's got a young team.
He's gotten started, eight sophomores, you know, so he's building for the future.
These guys, I don't think they realize what they're in the dome today.
They don't care.
It's another road game to them.
Now.
McGowan drops.
Back in punt formation.
And the Wolves decided they want talk about it now.
Davon and Taysom, you know, you talked about the road games with gay.
It's viewers like you that help make great local programs like these GHC football games possibly on Georgia Powell possible on Georgia Public broadcasting show your support simply visit our website at W WW dot GPB dot org.
It's totally secure simple to use and takes just a couple of minutes and thank you for supporting Georgia Public Broadcasting.
You know Georgia Public Broadcasting gives us all these games and gives us a lot of different programs and it was something on the other night about the stadium down in Athens that they had a good program.
Notes to you earlier about the road to the dome for for for doubling how many miles these guys travel when they play it?
COOK 314 miles round trip.
FITZGERALD 152 miles round trip.
Calhoun 407 miles round trip.
And I went up to the Calhoun game and that got even longer because it was a wreck on the expressway that night.
So we all sat on the expressway for two and a half hours.
But here's Miguel.
On average, at about 37 yards, a kick and back deep is Brandon.
Edman or the Irish Crusher and.
Pretty good kick by.
McLaughlin kicks it away from the return man and takes a huge.
Roll and the wolves are going to pin him down deep inside the one yard line.
It ends up being a 54 yard kick.
About 30 of it roll.
But nevertheless, the Irish are pinned back inside their own one.
Talk about having a weapon.
McCloud just puts a big foot into it.
I think as long as it was a like 40 no, 57 and 57 yards might have been as long as punt.
There you see beanbag down there to touch it down along with John McClean up and ready to the big kick by McGowan.
And let's see what the Irish can do down by seven 5 minutes to go in the half and stuck inside.
Their own one yard line.
Conklin under center and Wilcher in motion gives you a fullback and no play play action.
Got a man had it for a second Brandon, who.
Had gone in motion and was wide open behind the secondary and just off his fingertips.
We do have a flag on the play as well.
Oh, that could have been a huge play.
And a lot of confidence in your young quarterback to put him back there in that position in the end zone, had some decent blocking.
What's his reaction there?
Oh, he knew.
He knew he had it.
Docker knew they had the right play called.
They picked up the flag.
So no penalty.
Second down and ten from about the five foot line coach Holmes in his third year, 26 victories already.
And this time Cochran's just going to put his head down and he rolls out to about the five yard line.
So not a bad game if his team a little bit of breathing room in L.A. on a third down and five yards to keep this drive going.
Cochran's not afraid to hold on to the ball.
Had like 80 carries for the regular season.
Four touchdowns rushing to go with those 13.
And he had through the air, go to the sideline.
He gets brought in by Jesse Coxwell and there they go, Dublin down 14 seven here.
You see the had a mario all banged up a lot of contact in those trenches and now.
Whistle blows may have taken too much time.
That's exactly what happened.
So that'll take it halfway back to the goal line and make it a little bit longer.
Third down.
Now they need to closer to eight yards.
Airball delay of game green team still beat third down.
And a frustrated coach coach of the year and triple A in 2002 coach of the year in Tennessee as well before he got to the Fighting Irish.
Over 100 wins for Coach Holmes in his coaching career.
Here's the give and running room Wiltshire out to the 20 into the secondary all the way out to the 30 yard line goes Ryan Wilcher.
Gray Hunsaker, the one that brought him down.
But that will give the Irish a first down at the throw.
Just an example that wing t can do great run.
I mean, you got so many.
Like I said, coach calls that multi dimensional weight because there's so many different things you can do out of it and you just never know who's going to get the ball.
Now, you saw in that play three different runners heading toward the quarterback.
Wilcher is the one who gets it and picks up 37 yards.
Here he goes again.
This time the.
Wolves are there waiting.
Number 34, Strayhorn sucker and he tackles in for a loss on soccer another one of those sophomores that 611 90 loss of five yards they say on the play second down and 15.
Now Davis only 3 minutes to go to the half but I notice a lot of Buford placed on and put their hands on the hips.
And move from an offensive way out role and the throw and complete that's Taylor again the man who got the touchdown and he's got a first down.
Cochran found him again.
Just give.
Fred a nice little roll out there little roll.
Out sprint pass and completes it.
Jerian Taylor had the tackle him with a gain of 13 on the play excuse me 18 on the play and a first down at the 43.
Makes the handoff once the throw again got it man and did he get it there?
He does.
And guess who Brandon Taylor, his favorite target, got his third catch of the day.
Jerian Taylor, again on the coverage and the tackle.
But another first down for Dublin.
Then like Dublin starting to get the momentum going.
Nice throw too good concentration on the catch.
Yeah 20 yard takes an arm to do that ball now to Buford 45.
Statue of Liberty hand down and the give.
Goes to pooler and Chris picks up some positive yardage to about.
The 40.
Yeah.
You see him hold it up, come back around and give it to him on the delay handoff.
You know, up with what we call that Statue of Liberty.
If that was what it was called.
That was back in the day.
Hold it up.
Like Lady Liberty, like a torch.
And we got a time out on the field at second down and six coming up for Dublin.
And they have started this drive inside their own one yard line.
They're now at the 41 of Buford and it's been the passing attack Cochran to Taylor.
It's kept this drive going.
You know, you've got great motivation here at what's left to say.
We take this and it goes home.
Okay.
Let's get first.
Now go to minute.
Oh, now is live to say let's quickly send it down to David Dyleski on the sidelines.
Yeah I'm checking out Matt Primer here he already already had a shoulder strap on so he'd had that shoulder dislocated before.
He doesn't know what happened in that touchdown play, but evidently it came apart again.
Trainer said he's not going back in.
He said We'll see what happens.
Back up to you.
Hi.
Thanks.
DC and AC Fried more disappointed once to again his team.
Another state title, but it looks like he might be done.
For the afternoon.
Take it down six to go Cochran again.
This time it's well to catch as it makes him move and gets inside the 30 yard line.
Hunsaker had to come in and make the tackle.
Brandon Wilcher, the senior, makes that grab, puts a nice move on Garrison Taylor and gets another couple of yards.
Now we got a flag dropped in the secondary.
See what that is.
Might be a substitution penalty here.
Substitution infraction, 35 yards.
Down, first down.
And that's what it was.
So five more yards for the doubling offense moves it to the 25/1 and five for them.
As they give the.
Pooler pooler.
Dragging tacklers to the 20 yard line.
Ryan, Gilda meyer helped out on that stop number 56, just short of a first down, four and a half yards on the.
Carry and 90 seconds in the half, they're going to throw it and in and out of the hands.
Of Brian Wilcher.
You know, Dave, you start running a little variation of a two minute drill.
It can take a lot out of your defense players as we see the throw.
Ooh.
Oh.
That was hot coming out.
I don't know.
You know.
Welch is just going to get his hands up there at time.
It's third down.
They need about a half yard to keep this drive going.
Oh, on motion.
The Fuller and Fuller appears to have enough.
But now the ball came loose out of there, so the Dublin drive ends on their second turnover.
Recover.
He was made.
By Jonathan Owens.
Let's look at that play again.
Look, everything he's.
Got stacked up in the middle and.
It was like, oh, they couldn't decide if Cochran wanted to give it away to Fuller or not.
It ends up rolling three and jumped on by the wolves.
So a great drive that went.
79 yards ends at the 22 yard line that you put on the attack.
Again, there's Wilt Sanders, rather, and he gets nothing.
Big number 71.
And on that tackle, Chris Johnson.
I think he had some help from my buddy Mr. Mobley.
I assume there he is.
That big man is just, you know, to be that size, you know, both £300 and still being able to move like that.
I mean, I had some skills like the one time in my life.
But I know you never weigh 320.
That close legged down.
They lost a couple second and 12 and there's a fullback, black and jade.
He can't get anything done.
He's dropped in the backfield.
Fred Smith, the one that hit him there.
And now we're down to our final 35/2 to the half and was the third and 12.
Dublin sees a chance to maybe get the football back and do something with it.
Smith makes a great play, just sharing the blocker that was on him 39 tackles three sacks and a junior.
How would you like to have him come back next year?
It will be one of the leaders of this team.
Third down.
Watch this.
We don't get stuck at end on the pass it in the right place right now.
Screen.
All right.
All right.
Well done, smart man as well.
Hey, let's go, guys.
Foul plays five, cover two, three.
Hey, so can you three give me a twist out of my own?
You got to give me.
Oh, you know.
Oh, so twist two, three, will.
You go, coach?
Roger Holmes giving some instructions.
Just three and seven.
Last year the Fighting Irish were and here they are in a state semifinals at the Georgia Dome.
Yeah, you could only get that kind of stuff right here.
The dough man being able to go right inside the huddle.
Now, we know the play.
We know where it's going.
Georgia Public Broadcasting, outstanding.
Third down they needs well lack of get it just in the fullback handoff and.
A very conservative play on third down picks up a few yards but not nearly enough and looks like the Irish are going to get the football again.
They'll stop the clock.
30 seconds still to go.
So they wasn't the kind of ball game, you know, that you anticipated.
I mean, you got both these teams with just hard nosed, hard running, great defensive ballgame.
Is that what you were looking for today?
This is about what I expected.
Buford, I felt, was a superior team and they looked good.
But turnovers have cost him in Dublin's right in this game.
Earlier today it was a single-A match up.
Hopkinsville taken on Bowden and coach Lee Campbell's team, the defending champ.
And they played like it today.
And they advance with a victory 36 to 14.
There's Coach Campbell there and his squad will play Clinch County for the single-A state title.
That was game number six of ten on GPB this weekend.
This is Game seven.
Patrick McGlone will do the punting opens away good.
High kick and then heading back But again he lets it go and again gets a few for roll through the wolves and it goes out of bounds at about the 40 yard line, 10 seconds burned off the clock.
So they have 20 seconds.
The Irish do to try and do something here and they abuse their time out.
We've seen Cochran when he throws it has been very effective.
Brandon Taylor and Brandon Wilcher both have receptions.
This is first half height play ball spotted at the.
39 not from under center and.
Wilcher in motion roll out right side fire.
That ball was partially tipped.
NELSON And it's going to fall short of the intended receiver.
Wilcher The Camaro, the guy that got a hand on it.
And David is kind of hard to throw the ball and thought.
Mero standing in front of you.
Six to Duke 3588 tackles on the year for Thor nine quarterback sacks for him and almost got number ten They're going to end over in thing.
You see him jump you jump like a Thor see 88 tackles man you know that's how Thor would jump, man.
He just like jump and just cover you up with his body.
15 seconds.
Down the wall and this time Devin will give offense and running room for Pooler Fuller up the middle, and he picks up about 15.
Yards, takes the ball into Buford territory here.
But seconds to go they'll stop the clock to move the chains.
And Cochran quickly downs it, 1/2 ticks off.
And so they still have 7 seconds here, though.
They're back at the 45 yard line.
So let's see what they want to do.
Justin Miller is the kicker, but they're not even close to his range and again, they don't have any time outs.
A first down would stop the clock until they can reset the line, but probably not enough time for them to get in field goal position.
So here's Cochran for what he does on his final play of the half.
Most likely it will be rolling pressure coming from behind.
Maro almost hit him and dead and this ball is going to be picked off.
Here come the wolves the other way.
Michael Tucker has it gets back it's a battle of blockers Tucker down to the 40 Tucker at the 3025 late flag coming in back and midfield Tucker with a huge return to end the half the.
Dublin fortunate that he didn't net Tucker unable to score double injured players and then we still have to sort out what happened with that flag so we may have some more plays here.
That one seems to be.
Satisfied with the way it is.
They go hands to the back on the return team.
The penalty will be declined.
They have to have.
So that was that half ends on an interception return with a penalty nice return by Tucker but Dublin giving it one final shot throwing it down field and have got to be pretty proud of this first half down just 14 to 7.
We he does what coach Owens are saying man to be able to come in here with a young team like he had and be able to get I mean, he's done a great job down there.
Right now.
We've got Coach Dexter Woods standing by with Dave Zaleski.
All right, Coach, we're not used to you for being in close games here at the Dome at half.
Tell me what's going on right now.
It's pretty good.
The beavers in this game is close.
That's a heck of a football team that we're playing.
I thought we started off well offensively and.
Obviously they've made adjustments and we didn't do anything.
The second quarter gave them a turnover.
That really hurt.
But I think our defense is playing really, really well.
We just got to make some offensive adjustments here, but they're mighty good up front it on.
This is this is a heck of a football team we're playing.
What are you going to do to stop number 78 coming in there?
Boy, he's been a force.
No one has all year.
But we've got to do a better job than I thought we did the first quarter.
Obviously, he took over the second quarter.
You're going to be sticking with the running in the second half.
Seems to be working for the most part, except for the turnovers.
Now we're going to throw a little bit and they're kicking off on us right now.
So we're going to throw a little bit.
But still running is what got us here.
All right, coach, good luck.
Back up to you guys.
All right.
Thanks, David.
Thanks to coach his team up, but he didn't seem happy.
14 seven Our score at the half.
Let's take a break.
You're listening.
You're watching high school football semifinal action on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And at the half hour, second class double leg semifinal of the weekend, Buford leading Dublin 14 to 7 right now, let's join on the field.
Buford High's Band of Wolves under the direction of Wallace Conradt.
And and at.
Halftime Band of Wolves from Buford High performing right now and let's send it down to David Nelson.
All right.
We're I'm here with Wallace Konrath.
Tell me about this.
Here's where it repertoire.
They sound great this year.
Our show is called Road Trip.
We're featuring songs from different cities around the United States.
All right.
Well, there was a little trip involved in coming up with this involving your wife.
Tell me about that.
Right.
Every year in late January, we go to the Georgia Music Educators Association convention in Savannah.
And to spend our time between making it Savannah, we usually brainstorm some ideas for our shows every year.
And this year, this trip, this road trip show came to mind.
You guys have some awards.
Tell me about them.
Yes, both of our competitions this year, we won first in class with our band and our second competition, first in class in all areas.
Where there is rain all week up in Buford.
At least that's what I think that's.
Well, what's it been like practicing in the dorm?
Enough space for all this band?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, it's okay.
We've had rain every Thursday during the during the playoffs, and so we've usually had to practice Friday afternoon before our game.
And this morning we did the same thing practice before we came up here.
They look like veterans at the dome.
They're calm and collected.
They're used to it now, are we sure?
And we love doing it.
It's a great tribute to our football team and our entire school community.
Thanks a lot.
Well, all right.
Back up to you guys, guys.
Thanks, David Zaleski.
And thanks to the band director, Wallace Conrad to Buford High.
Well, take a break.
We'll be right back with more halftime activities.
You're watching high school football on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And at halftime.
You Buford up on Dublin 14 to 7 in this class double leg semi final and right down the field from Dublin High School it's the Fighting.
Irish band.
And now the Fighting Irish.
Band of Dublin High School.
And let's send it down to David Zaleski.
Well, I'm here with Louis Foster, band director.
Tell me about this repertoire we heard today.
They said, I want to thank Sir, call Rhythms of the Night.
It's got a little bit of everything from the Dawes piece Frog Lover O'Malley, Rhythms of the Night, Moulin Rouge to Big Noise from Winnetka.
So a real fun show.
The crowd always likes where we go.
Well, I heard there was a little problem in the rhythm actually getting to the dome today.
Tell me what happened.
Yes, sir.
We had a little problem.
One of our busses didn't show up, so we were a little late.
And then one of them decided to pull over by the side a little bit and have a few problems.
But thanks to quick thinking by our driver, we made it anyway.
This is the band that always gets awards.
Tell me about the history of Dublin High Schools Awards with bands.
Well, this is my first year head band director, but the band this made it I think it's 20 1728 straight superior that it's made in marching band.
So it's got a long, proud history.
In fact, our former band director from a year or two ago is here watching them today.
Mr. Kir.
Rittenhouse How excited were your kids to play in the Dome today?
Oh, listen, they've been shooting for this for all year.
Two years ago, they were up here and they say this is the greatest experience they've ever had.
Well, that's wonderful.
Glad you're able to experience that with them.
Thanks.
Okay.
Back up to you guys.
All right.
Thanks, David.
And thanks to Louis Foster, his band performing today.
Let's take a look at some of our first half highlights.
14 seven the score and Buford scoring first this play Mark Standridge a 40 yard run.
They bring him down inside the ten yard line and that will set up the first touchdown and Standridge will get it from here on out.
And he takes it in extra point, made it seven to nothing and then Devon but NAG scores the second wolves touchdown this one around the right side 19 yards another extra point 14 nothing.
But then after a super turnover Goodwin gets the football and a touchdown pass.
From Ben Cochrane the Brandon Taylor extra point Good 11 yards on that score 14 to 7 doubling down W4 look at those first half numbers passing yards zero for the wolves 62 for Dublin and they out at more yardage.
141 They also have three turnovers so far.
And that's the number that we're going to be focusing turnovers, top possessions, about the same.
You know, they got to come out of here, basically just get themselves recompose.
Buford knew they were going to come out and be very physical and that's exactly what what we need to be looking out for in the second half.
Let's set it down the field.
Roger Holmes standing by with David Zaleski.
All right, Coach, pretty close in the first half.
Tell me what you got to do in the second to pull this one out.
Well, we've got to be more physical.
We've got to tackle better.
I thought we picked up our tempo a little bit as the half went low.
They're certainly a great football team.
We knew that coming in.
We've got to maintain our composure, hang on the football, on our offense, hit them in the mouth on defense.
You told, me, it was going to be their strength run offense against your strength run defense.
You're causing fumbles, but they're also getting some big plays.
What's happening here?
Well, I just.
Felt like early in the first half and we didn't we didn't do a good job of putting our head across in front of their running backs and try to arm tackle.
You don't do that against our talented people.
I thought we got a little better with it as I went on.
Hopefully we got it corrected at halftime.
We'll play a little better.
You said the Ben Cochrane sophomore is the kind of quarterback that won't lose it for you, kind of the Trent Dilfer type.
Has he got to be the kind that's going to win it today?
He might have to.
They're doing a great job of defending our running game and we got a lot of confidence in man.
We think he'll do a good job.
All right.
Good luck in the second half.
Coach, back up to you guys.
Thanks, Dave.
Coming second half, you're watching high school football on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Drew Griggs has it teed up for doubling as the.
Buford Wolves will start out with a football here in the second half.
But deep is Yvonne Bernard and Mark Standridge.
It's kicks it away.
Good, strong kick beanbags.
Going to take in the end zone.
That's a touchback.
And the wolves will start at the 20 here in the second half.
You know, it would be interesting to see and, you know, coach would talk about he's going to have to throw a little bit more in the second half and Dublin's got four sophomores over there.
So let's see if he can take advantage of those guys.
Justin Roper, zero yards passing in the first half.
But you said it.
Dexter wouldn't mention it.
They may go to the air if the running game is stifled they had some good yardage.
They just kept putting the ball in the turf.
A different second half.
Lucky to recover two of those fumbles, but the third when they didn't recover, Dublin turned into.
A touchdown line formation behind Justin Roper or the junior quarterback getting to fullback Black JD.
He's going to pick up about five yards over the.
Right side, tackled over there by Chris Pooler.
And it had a stunning set up.
And the Jets where the man left from, that's exactly where Standage was able to get to.
Pick up five on first down, second down and five to go from there.
And there you see the big man that they have had all kinds of trouble with, number 78, Nick Mobley.
And you put him right in the middle.
That's a good place to keep him right over the right.
Guard in motion.
Go score.
Mario now chased down.
That means left to right.
The other guy who stayed with him for a lot better get it.
He will be tripped up after a short.
Gain of two.
Brian Wilcher, the one that brought him down and.
Watch the defense.
You know, we talk about great pursuit.
Just find the ball carrier.
Stay with him.
You love it when you got three or four guys coming around that ball every time.
You see Chopper and in there getting a hand in from the left side.
So they came all the way across to help out with that tackle.
Third down they need three.
The wolves do.
In their opening possession of the second half up 14 to 7 and that's the tailback.
And he will get it going right side with work.
He initially took a hit and a short of the first down, his momentum carries him, his strength, carry him to the 32 yard line that's first down.
And what else carried did you see the right side of that line come off the ball.
Watch this.
Everybody got ahead on somebody.
People going backwards sometimes.
Like I said, you don't even have to move them.
You just got to put a wall between.
83 yards for standards in the first half came in averaging about nine yards a carry just five today, but still got a touchdown.
Really a big 40 yard run to set it.
Up in the first quarter first and then at the 31 yard line, there comes a pass and it is go play.
And he's got room to move to the 50 to the 42 yard line.
Goes Chase BURNETT.
So the first completed pass for the Wolves picks up a first down just.
You know, unfortunate and the corner just slips and that just makes you look real.
Bad.
Jesse Cogswell coming over on coverage and he slipped down and there Rover likes that play.
Justin coming in with nearly a thousand yards passing.
He's got it now and his team has a first down at the Dublin 40.
One yard line that coming in motion and the fullback and he will not get far.
Blake skipper on the carry maybe a yard not even that much the tackle made by Thomas Barnes.
There you see Thomas again a sophomore in that defensive side of the ball for the Dublin Irish Dexter what three state.
Titles in a row for number four Dandridge on the bench and again.
Dublin there to meet him another short gain it'll be second and our third down and long that was Brandon Wilcher.
Just some great licks being passed out there.
You can just hear it.
Oh, yeah.
You see who else?
You have one on one with Standridge and able to bring him down after a gain of about a year and.
A half third down and nine to wide.
Out to the near side.
Offset by Standridge is the tailback long town by a row for he wants to throw and he completes it and this will be enough for a first and second effort by.
Hendricks.
David Hendricks, a sophomore fighting through a tackle and gets it all the way down to that 27 yard line.
Take a look at it.
You know, if you're sitting at home, you can probably catch this ball.
Throwing it right at us.
And you see Cogswell over there trying to make the tackle.
But second effort.
Hendricks And he picks up enough for his first down.
So the wolves keep the drive alive.
They're now at the 27 yard line of Dublin trying to add to their 14 seven lead Brandon Average all by himself in the backfield.
Right now this goes in motion and he'll get it Mark gets over double tacklers makes in the secondary inside the ten Still working his way to.
The six yard line goes Mark Standridge another big gain for him.
Brian Wilcher saved the touchdown.
Since Coach Hollins talked about standards.
Hey, he's the kind of kid that if he has to run through a wall, he'll do it.
Look at him.
Just step over people just running.
I mean, talented, very talented back.
Approaching 100 yards now is Mark Standridge and he set his team up again on a first and goal at the six yard line.
Gordon running back I have formation standard stays in there as a deep back wow Will Ferrell.
Pitch it to him Left side ball picks on a tackler and gets it inside the two yard line.
Brandon was the one that kept him out of the end zone.
Just some great hard running by stand just lowers the head.
It's a down inside the 2/2 and goal for the wolves just one loss in four years that to a 518 central gwynedd.
Foul in front of their 47 game winning streak gone right here give the standings and here we go in standing up mark standridge.
With two touchdowns today and wolves extend their lead to 20 273 and give a lot of.
Credit to that offensive line and stand.
You tell me just to be able to take the load on your shoulders and go ahead and bring that ball into the end zone.
There you see Mark Dangerous, the 510, £190 senior over 1300 yards rushing.
Here's McLaughlin on for the extra point.
But we have a flag of slow things down.
MCLAUGHLIN 60 out of 62 on the season, 61 out of 62.
Excuse me, miss just one this year.
Encroachment on the green team at penalty has declined.
For the wolves to line it up again Roper will hold it by green so that's a good one.
And so is the kick.
21 seven Buford On top of Dublin, they take the opening possession of the second and drive it 80 yards for the score stands.
Which is probably one of the best backs that this team has seen all year I mean, he's just a hard, determined runner.
And on top of that, he's got four or five speed.
And look at the block by Singleton out there to lead the way.
Also sealing off his man was Zach Skipper.
And you see standards now up over 100 what 102.
To the plays ten plays 80 yards.
Now, here's something to keep in mind.
They took 4 minutes and 43 seconds off the clock.
That's good ball control offense.
That's something that I'm sure Coach Holmes wasn't expecting.
Look at that line when they just wall off everything, you know, you just cannot be good blocking.
And once again I'm pretty partial, a good blocker since I didn't do much of it.
I think George Rogers would beg to differ.
I'm sure he would.
Like Bill leading the way at South Carolina for George in his.
Heisman Trophy here.
The kick.
Is away and see what Dublin can do.
On its first possession of the second half.
Welcher looking for LeBron and runs right and the number.
22 Thomas Dixon Dixon fights off the blocker and drills Wilcher at about the 14 yard line.
Take a listen.
To this day look at this pad on fat helmet on helmet.
Dave, I filled it up here, man.
Like like seems to.
There you have the champions.
Hopkinsville has another chance.
Buford trying to make it two in a row are trying to make it four in a row, only less.
Rome has done that in Georgia.
High school history, four state championships in a row.
We've got a flag on the first play of the second half of the Fighting Irish.
A Dublin offense and offsides are going to be called against the wolves.
Bone marrow overeager on Alan Ball come out to the 19 to a first down and five.
Airball encroachment on wide team and still be first down.
You go first team to win four consecutive state championships won the last 356 and one over that stretch of the last four years.
First and five now for Dublin and.
They get to the up back and that is pooler this pooler thousand yard rusher this year and he's going to pick up about three yards not quite enough for his first down tries to pooler in dollar the the focus of this Dublin offense but it was a passing game in the first half that really got them going.
Ben Cochran and Brandon Taylor getting together three times for big plays.
Cochran under center on a second, short second and two.
Then he will give it to Pooler again.
And this time Chris appears to have for the first down.
And give credit to the big nasty left front.
Ball out to the 25/1 down for the Irish at third.
The third seed out of region three in double had to go on the road for all the playoff games and came out victorious every time.
Here in the dome as well too around the and Wiltshire is going to pick up about nine yards that's the younger.
Of the two Brian Wiltshire Blake Skipper and Michael Tucker combined.
Take a look at the cut back there they love it start out just got back up inside that low of the head.
Got a nice kickout block from Tony Smith in a nine yard second and one.
In motion goes down again and a Wiltshire another Wiltshire carry and Brian.
Across the 45 that's going to be enough for a first down.
He stays real good blocking up front you got to guard pulling coming across look at it there's the whole told you Dave I can I can get through those kind of holes ma'am.
You just don't believe it.
I really don't.
You see Wiltshire now with 50 yards, I say it's straight.
Hunsaker hit you, you go down, we'll be able to step through.
The tackle and pick up enough of the first down there at the 46.
Controls to maybe change the play dollar in motion.
And took too much time.
I'm afraid.
So.
All up there, trying to come up with something creative.
But couldn't get it off in time.
Sacks watch the defensive end by mistake.
They dig the pros, but on the white team, he'll be first and go.
It was motion up front.
So They do get five yards and now they're in Buford territory at the 49.
And there you see the penalties three on both sides.
First and five for Dudley and it comes down to his.
First carry the second half and the virus will pick up maybe three yards out of it.
You've been tagged credit for that tackle along with Brandon Ravitz, 46.
Dave is a very, very stingy defense over there on Buford side of the ball.
These guys, once again, they're strong, they're active, and they're not giving anything.
They're filling gaps.
And that's what's making it hard back.
Might be getting in there, getting one or two yards, but because their quickness, they can't get much more.
Fighting Irish they drill the halftime in their last playoff game the downhill but came back to win that one so they can play from behind.
Here's the carry by pooler and pooler just keeps the legs moving, picks up about five yards That'll be enough for the first down the tackle by Blake skipper Calhoun had a 3214 lead on the Irish, but Dublin put 34 straight points on the board and ended up winning it 4837 That was their last week's opponent.
Here's the give.
The dollar again room to run into the second there he goes verus dollar and he's inside the 30 Buford to the 29 yard line and you he just watch.
This he's just going to run over everybody and anything in his way makes contact, just leaving people, laying the ground.
Two, three, four people.
Great job up front, big, massive guard pulls.
He's going to punish you every time.
And Johnson able to finally bring him down with some help from Tucker.
But that's another big first down for this Dublin offense.
Their first possession here, the second half, and they're looking good.
You talk about their own 16.
Gordon here's dollar again.
This time.
The wolves are ready and they knock him backwards.
He may have not got back to the line of scrimmage.
He was hit by JD Black.
What comes out of that pile with the football?
But it's still going to be Dublin possession but back at the 31 so a loss of two.
Possibilities is that what we talked about, that strong stingy defense and Buford not giving up anything.
You can't keep going to the will same time too many times.
You saw Jonathan in there with black on that tackle.
Oh, second and 12/3 down conversions just two out of seven.
Here's a pass and way over the head of his intended receiver, that was Brandon Wilcher out there on the end.
But Cockrum couldn't connect in this third quarter, flying by under 3 minutes to play here.
We'll see the replay doctor we're going to go sideline and just overshot his man.
Third down down and 812.
And now we had a little movement up front.
Not sure which side, but that's going to be five yards one way or the other.
Motion on the Irish.
Watch Little Flinch right up.
We see it.
Here.
Ball snap from on green team stalemate third down that's lively.
It looked like Nick moved.
Ever so slightly to the rock back and forth a little bit.
So all you got to do for the referee to see.
So now it's 17.
Yards what the Irish need to keep this drive going roll rolling right looking downfield fires deep Got to man they're down 11 makes the catches inside the five yard line first and goal but nag brings him down to give a lot of credit to Ben Cochran out here just.
Throws right nice strong arm knows where he's going down feel is his target.
Leverages dollar he's got four touchdowns receiving on the season almost had his fifth but he's got a first and goal for his team at the four yard line.
Cochran is pretty happy about that.
Play third and 17 and Cochran able to convert.
It for his team for the lone setback.
Now they're going in motion and Downer will get it and he will get in the end zone for a double and score with Lamar as dollar from four yards out He got him close with the catch Takes it in on the ground and it's 2130 Unbelievable burst of speed LaVar.
Is dollar senior six feet £225 Here's the extra.
Point by Justin Miller knocks it through and the Irish cut that world lead down to seven 2114 with 2 minutes and 23 seconds go here in the third quarter.
Watch that play again.
Dollar in motion.
We'll get the short handoff.
Turn the corner and a big block and looked like Chris Johnson had a hand in there.
And Dave you get that 225 foul going straight up north and south.
It's hard to slow it down.
Not much you can do about that.
Olivares makes two big plays in a row and his team is within seven.
And like you said, defining Irish.
They know how to play on the road.
They also know how to play from behind.
And one thing about Dublin, they're capable of big plays.
You know, you talked about the game last week.
It gets Calhoun.
We had as you see our play Drive It nine plays, 70 yards once again, 4 minutes, 54 seconds, take time off the clock, almost 5 minutes on that drive.
Drew Briggs has it teed.
Up for the Irish and the NAG and standridge back deep for the wolves.
Too long scoring drives won by each team here in the third quarter and another gig from Gregg's and Wolves will have to settle.
For the 20 yard line as a start for this possession.
The Dublin fans getting all worked up.
Why it early?
Because their team was getting pushed all over the place, but now they are down by just seven here and have all the momentum on their side.
There's Coach Wood giving instructions to Justin Roper six foot five £190 is the junior QB.
David to be interesting to see if they come out of this series keeping the ball on the ground if they're going to go to the air with it.
Wolves with 18 straight postseason victories in motion, Roper gave it to Standridge and Mark, but by a wave of green and yellow led by number six, Brandon Edmunds.
They're a good defensive surge, that time by the Dublin defense.
Everybody just closes down, put a hat on, somebody.
There you see that pooler in there?
Brad Smith got.
A hat on him as well.
And now it's second gain of two on that one.
So a second and eight offset on and have a pass and great catch from behind David.
Hendricks and the reach back for that one Roper found a little seam got it to him and it's going to be a first down for Buford.
And as you noted Robert can just stand in the pocket great blocking up front and at six foot five you know you can see over everything.
Great catch.
Address his second big catch of the night and that's a first down for at their own 34 yard line.
Hendrix comes nearside Wolford barking out the second First down is the fullback that is Bonang Yvonne this time.
Fred Smith there to hold him to about a two yard gain not even that give him one bond scored one touchdown in the first quarter a 19 yard run.
It didn't get much on that.
Gary Carrier and Smith.
You know but you talk about Bernard and just the 40 I think a 4 to 7 tackles on the year and a good student to get the other 2.9.
Hundred 79 for the wolves final 30 seconds here by third quarter and good game not much on that left side Zach was led by number 45.
Chopper Basket.
Chopper.
Once again, it's another one of those great.
Football names, Chopper.
That's a good one.
Shot for a door going head to head here today.
And that will wind out the third quarter, though, after a bunch of turnovers.
In the first half, a couple of flawless drives in the third quarter here and it's 2114.
Buford Leads doubling.
You got 12 minutes to play.
You're watching Georgia Public Broadcasting.
I wish I could fly to the sky some very high.
And we're all set for.
The fourth quarter here.
David Hubbard, along with Phil Proctor and The View for the Wolves, up 2114.
They've got the football facing a third down and eight yards to go at their own 37 Hendrix going in motion another pass and this one will be nearly intercepted tipped away at the last minute by number eight Jamon.
Morris again.
The antenna receiver was Hendrix, but Roper couldn't connect with him on that one.
Great timing by Morris too.
He sees the pass coming.
Just able to get that hand out there the last minute go makes a great play.
For sophomore still in that secondary for Devlin's so they'll have to punt it away Matt McLaughlin And again I get it a little bit short and this time the ball's going to bounce backwards.
Got a couple of great rolls earlier, but that one, Tucker taps it at the 45.
So that's where Dublin will take over early this year.
We talked to Coach earlier this week.
He talked to Coach Holmes about this year's Irish team.
This year, football team.
I think the thing is special is we only have five seniors on our football team total and and those guys have done a great job of leading this football team.
They're the backbone of the team.
We start an enormous amount of sophomores.
I think we started six on defense in the starting five on the offensive side of the ball.
So I guess the special thing about them is the desire to show up, to work hard every day.
And they are working hard here in the start, the first fourth quarter, Brian Wilcher, the carry, and he's going to pick up about six yards and get the football into Buford territory.
Know Dave, I was talking to Coach Holmes before the game and you can just tell when you talk to him about his team and about their community down.
In Dublin that he just have so much fondness for those where he loves these kids.
And his third year coaching the.
Fighting Irish 26 wins already is a game the doctor and numerous another big game for him inside the 35 yard line goes LaVar is dollar go with the touchdown in the last drive it got him.
A big first down.
Here gets the inside handoff then he's got the big nasty zip front You got a couple of missed blocks.
And then you've got a lot of work by DA.
What a special kid to.
For wolves to bring him down.
After a gain.
Of more than 15 yards was down four down $1 gets it again trying to turn the corner and cuts it back inside the 30 stays on his feet.
The is is going to take it all the way for a touchdown 33 yards on the scoring run for LaVar US Dollar Day.
The other word comes to mind sensational what an outstanding athlete here he goes from ground and it's just being able to make the cut backs people just hitting the shit shit the tackle and just take off running.
Tyler Josey got a nice.
Block in there, kicked out his man and then.
Down just step through some tacklers to go the distance.
Joe the speed.
Here's Mario what's the point?
It's good and we are tied at 21 with ten and a half minutes to play 71 yards there for dollar and a couple of big touchdowns and his team down 21 seven has come back to tie this thing up.
This is a Dublin team that can just big plays at any given time.
Dolly's just a great athlete and just turns on the afterburners.
There's nothing you can do.
You see the speed right there.
Again, look at the blocking out front and that cutback outstanding.
Only one guy hit him.
That was Hunsaker couldn't wrap him up.
And then he goes, We got a new.
Ballgame, 21 apiece, thanks to that man right there.
We talked about it before.
This team railed last week against Calhoun by 16 points, but they won three plays, 55 yards, 34 yards on the touchdown run by Dallas.
Just a minute, 11 seconds coming off the clock, 1035 to go in the ballgame and they're.
Tied at 20.
One standards in the back, back deep.
Here comes Evan.
And the goal on to the ten, the 15 got a seam at the 2530 yard run ball splits loose it's free Dublin jumps on it at the 35 yard line the fighting Irish with a chance to take the lead here.
Recovery made by number 71 Chris Johnson what a.
Great return started out real good and just a great great hit defensively.
Look Doug Doug, that was Andre Key is.
Rollins who hit him the freshman and.
Just got a hand in, poked it out and Johnson there to flop on it at the 35 yard line.
36 we'll.
Call it a first down for the Irish down the Gary Wolves stop.
In short, he got to the 35.
Blake skipper leading the way.
And good play by that the front folks up there for BUF especially you know you got the crowd behind you momentum's going and the best way to take the crowd out the game is make a great stop like this.
You see, Skipper wrap up and bring him down second down for about half yards of a long nine for the Irish for the total yards doubling out gaining Buford today.
By almost a hundred yards.
And they've yet to lead control.
We're now going to keep it in safe.
He's going to get it throws down knocked out of bounds inside the 25 the 23 yard line goes Benkert run sophomore quarterback Yeldon Meyer.
And Cedrick Driggs digs rather than one to knock him out.
But he picked up 12 yards on the carry.
And Cochran the guy last week ended up on a quarterback draw for 91 yards so this kid can make some big plays.
There you see the two coaches.
At the state finals, four Buford, four total, three in a row.
There's a give to Pooler as they change it up a little bit.
There's lost his hat and picked up a couple of yards brought down by Ryan Gilder.
Meyer good stop by pooler stepping up here on the season 53 tackles.
9 minutes 7 seconds and counting here in a tie ballgame 2121 Dublin has scored two unanswered touchdowns and they recovered a fumble on the kickoff.
And and right now threatening to take the lead second down and nine at that 23 yard line of Buford knocking up five over the head of his.
Intended receiver.
But a flag comes in on the play.
We may have some interference trying to go to Brandon here on the slant.
A lot of contact back there at the ten yard line.
The official saw it.
And there's the call.
Pass interference on the wide team.
That be automatic.
First down there you see.
Yep looked like it was.
Cedrick Diggs who's in there because Matt Fried Moore got hurt early on today.
Fried Moore making a play on the Brandon Taylor touchdown dislocated that shoulder again so he comes out.
And now with that penalty Dublin is at the 12 yard line with a first down there.
Just a bad day for Duval on that one here's Wiltshire with the carry got hit immediately.
But moves Hunsaker back another couple of yards a Brian Wilcher sophomore averaging about seven yards a carry this year.
Davis would be a good test for that but for defensive linemen, I know those guys are getting tired hitting these great fast, strong backs for Dublin.
This is where they got to suck it up and go there.
Fried Moore separated his shoulder, got.
Hurt early in the year, had a brace on the day while he was playing Reinjured himself.
So he's out Dallas on the sweep and he will break through a tackle with virus to the last three yards.
But ends up picking up three as he broke through the tackle and looked like JT Black was going to drop him in the.
Backfield.
Great look is.
It thought it was store my mistake number 33 not 32 had.
Him just couldn't wrap up on them once again he had them couldn't wrap up.
And grab it the one ends up making the tackle pick up four yards on the play.
The ball's now at the eight you see dollars numbers, couple of scores, 72 touchdowns, 72 yards, rather, six and a half yards a carry roll up by got the trouble fires an incomplete in and out of the hands of Fuller.
At the three yard line.
I don't think he would have been hard enough for the first down anyway.
So a fourth down.
They've watch the pressure man.
Once again, the score coming up the middle, not giving Cochran a chance to get his feet set to make a good throw.
So here's Justin Miller.
He's four out of five this year on his kicks.
This one will be from 25 yards.
Cochran will hold it.
The kick is back and it's good.
Justin Miller knocks it throw from 25 yards and the Fighting Irish have taken a 2421 lead The turnover.
By Buford.
Comes back to bite him and the Dublin faithful excited.
17 unanswered points.
Here's the kick.
You see Gary on Taylor flying in there, couldn't get there.
And Cochran celebrating along with Miller on that kick, though the Fighting Irish have come back from a 21 seven deficit to take a three point lead here with 7 minutes, 1/2 to play in the ballgame.
They've although this Dublin team is a young team, they're feisty, they're fighters.
They're not going to give up.
And the winner here will play Charlton County for the championship.
Charlton a winner, the Indians a 1812 winner over Laney yesterday.
And look at that.
The turnovers ten points Dublin has scored off of you four turnovers and Buford has fumbled the ball four times in total.
Lucky enough to recover two of them Drew Griggs picks it off for the Irish another good one.
Here comes Anthony.
That's Tucker on the return he got across the 20 yard line.
Excuse me.
Darian Taylor getting a chance to return, but nag usually back there.
But Taylor takes it out across the 20 to about the 23 yard line so Buford for the first time the night playing from behind 2421.
They just Buford Club they understand championships they've won them they know how to come back in games.
Like this.
That's Dexter Wood, 30 years as a head coach, 255 wins to his credit, his defense standing next to a couple of tackles, but he cannot get the corner and he's brought down after a short gain.
Thomas Barnes And on that tackle six plays 20 yards.
Miller with a 25 yard field goal, Irish got possession on the fumble on the kickoff return by the Buford Wolves.
And what a job that man has done with this football team.
And Devlin.
Speaking of Coach Holmes it.
Down a short game.
They gave him one go second and nine for the wolves setting in motion is going in and this time it's going to be a sack rover going down.
Pooler gets him from behind back at the 20 yard line Roper trying to roll.
Left and just not fast enough Look at pooler close down that one.
Unbelievable speed coming off the backside and just oh, I love it.
Look.
Oh, you know, if you rip your helmet off on purpose, it's a penalty when it happens like that, you take advantage.
Third down now for the wolves back of their own, 23 out of eight today on the third down conversions open looking a little show cross over the middle completes it but he'll be held well short of his first down.
Number two, Thomas Barnes that was beanbag on the reception watch.
Barnes and he got hit immediately Just sees the whole play Bam.
Down he goes fourth down though McGloin on the punt it away 5 minutes to go in this ballgame.
Brandon Edmond back deep for the Irish standing at his own 45 A lot of pressure pretty good kick away from Thurman actually.
Not so good because.
It went off the side of his but 48 yard line as a 47 excuse me is where.
Dublin gets possession.
They got a lead and they've got the football and they got the wing t offense, which means they can take time off the clock if they want to and expect to see a heavy dose of LaVar dollar.
He has had a huge second.
Half like Dallas strikes me like 35 C ram.
Let's go as coach Roger Holmes giving instructions to his quarterback, Ben Cochran.
Okay, Dave, you got to play now you know where it's is going.
Yeah.
Let's hope Buford coaches not watching you right now.
Seems like a little unfair.
Cochran under center but the way well to one arm he goes in motion and here's Poole with the carry and that hat comes off again and.
Chris picks up about five yard gets into Buford territory stop Chris Koehler over 1100 yards on the ground for the season.
Watch the athleticism of Nick Bobby just through the middle.
All he has to do is just wall players off.
You just follow behind him.
They'll never see.
£320.
Six foot three.
Nick Marvin.
They'll be playing on Saturday next year.
Here's the game.
The Wilcher can turn the corner and finagle bring him down for a loss, but he may have used a facemask to do it.
Yvonne Showing that speed.
You just wanted to make a tackle.
Got the hand in the wrong.
Part of the helmet, but look how quick he gets over there.
It's great play.
This guy has tremendous speed.
And looked like he had him by the shoulder pad to.
Facemask on a wide team.
A five yard penalty.
Shelby second down.
So five yards will put it at the 45 yard line call it the 46/2 down three yards to go for the Irish.
Oh he's going to give it to Dallas.
And this time he is wrapped up in the backfield by Thor marrow.
Marrow but another flag and on this play so it may have been a little quick getting across the line let's see what that is.
Nice tackle.
That's just great speed now.
Okay sees the play develop just decide to step in introduces himself.
Let's see what the penalties all about, especially for huddling.
And here we go, 344 to go.
Here the Irish on top.
By three.
We had an illegal chef.
Two men moving at one time have a stalemate and that penalty is declined.
It's third down.
For the wolves.
Take the play because it was a loss, loss of a couple of yards.
Be third down back at the 49 yard line.
You're going to have a time out on the field.
24, 21, Buford down.
They'll call a timeout.
There's Dexter.
What?
We asked him about this year's team.
This has been a fun team to coach in past years.
Buford has been known for some superstar type players that got a lot of attention and broke records and got all kind of college scholarship offers.
This particular edition of the Buford Wolves is much more blue collar.
We don't have really a, quote, superstar, although we've got some very, very good players.
Our team chemistry and the way they play together is exceptional and has made it a fun group to coach, and they still have that high standard of expectation.
They believe in those intangibles and they probably have played as close to their potential as any team we've had.
So it's been a great year for this group.
Yeah, another good year, three straight titles, three straight Coach of the Year Awards for Dexter and Dave.
Have you ever been up around.
That Buford area, around that community?
I mean, those folks, it is a tradition that has been built there now and they expect to win third down.
Buford back on its heels here, down by three.
They got a stop.
The Irish 36 Cochran's pass tipped at the line and incomplete.
Antenna receiver was Brandon Wilcher on a slant Looked like somebody's got a hand on it but the line of scrimmage is a replay.
Now it's a clean shot just the mark.
So it will be fourth down.
Cochran stays in the punt and dropping back deep.
Is Gary on Taylor?
Danny at his own 12.
Good snap a little bit of pressure not a real good kick Let's see where it rolls.
It's at 30 and he will get a pretty good roll about ten yards of it.
I finally stopped at the 18 yard line for the.
Wolves have 3 minutes and 27 seconds here to do something down by three points.
Well done.
Pretty good with the run, but I still haven't seen that passing attack.
I thought I'd see much more passing out of them, especially like we talked about earlier with Devlin having those four sophomores back there in the secondary looked like you'd try to take advantage of them.
Not much.
We've seen a.
Couple of passes, Roper and David Hendrix getting together.
Now.
He's in shotgun as Justin got back.
Pressure coming fires and he hits the defender right in the head.
That was Chris Johnson able to get in the passing lane and ball goes incomplete second and ten.
Dave you would love to see him the big man make that interception and rumbling bumbling and stumbling into the end zone with.
Norwood Johnson, the guy who recovered the fumble on the kickoff that set up the last of the go ahead points.
Roper brings him out again.
He's in shotgun.
He's got two receivers to the right of him.
Though, so roll that way.
He steps up fires and completes out across the 30 yard line.
Goes chase for that first down Buford.
A lot of credit to Robert just staying up there just firing this thing right on the line.
Nice strong arm bit kid just sees what he wants.
Great reception.
Jesse Coxwell over there to stop Chase Bernard But Chase gets enough for the first down to the near the 35 yard line.
Three receivers.
This time in the pattern pressure going pass away and incomplete gets antenna.
Receiver David Hendrix but that time, Roper had to unload the ball a little sooner than he wanted to.
And, you know, Buford still in the good position, no time to panic.
You know, you've got a great quarterback like Roper.
They've been in command of their playoff opponents so far.
You see the time out situation.
You've still got a couple left.
But we were down, scored its opponents by an average of 37 to 9 this year.
So this is unfamiliar territory for the wolves second down and ten pass tipped and on their play picked up brake on the ball by chopper basket type.
Basket almost with a pick six going the other way.
Great timing two man top just stand it looking at it you know sometimes linebackers defensive linemen the hands on soft so you really can't get that pigskin in there.
Like Standridge was the intended receiver and yep you're right no big it's not used to catch in football, but a great play.
Nonetheless.
He puts Buford in the third and long situation, third down and ten.
Mario splits out wide.
Now and then we got moseying up front.
Somebody jumped on the green side.
I think Brett Smith, the guilty party, that's going to be five easy yards for Buford, but still a third down extra.
We're looking on his 10th year.
As coach of the Wolves.
That's the call offsides so.
Jones not happy about it how much you can do lose the ball.
Yeah ball encroachment on the green team tailback third down.
The ball moves five yards up to just inside the 40 but still a third down third and five for for 257.
To play down by three points for this Dublin Fighting Irish team welcome those three to the right side need to break a couple of tackles and the nag does he get enough.
Let's see where he stepped out of bounds.
Great individual effort by Yvonne that time but I think he's going to be short Wednesday Mark there it is about him about a yard or so just you got to figure the wolves go for it here fourth down their season on the line under under 3 minutes to play.
Dexter gives the play to Justin Roper now standard the guy you would think would get it guts out one and against him and then fighting his way it's going to 45 I think he's going to have an up got hit in the.
Backfield but kept the legs moving and fell forward.
Fuller hit him first but he picks up two.
And they just great individual effort to young linemen low back just gets in their face picks up couple of yards just enough for the first down.
Boy that's a huge play.
Fourth and one they convert.
That says it all.
First down the 45.
Now again from the shotgun, this pass will be complete and spinning out of a.
Tackle is Chase BURNETT and he'll pick up five yards on that first down toss and winner with a couple of late catches here.
You take a look at it, Robert, just, you know, just coming out, making this reed tossing the nice ball.
Find the open man.
Oh, short.
Pattern picks it up for yards on the play.
Second and six.
This time he comes under center and reaches his tailback on that.
Going in motion right there.
He will pass it to Rolling Right fires.
He's got him again.
BURNETT breaks a tackle the thought of chase inside the 25 for the 23 yard line so the sophomore BURNETT with a couple of big grabs on this drive and it's first down and ten to go with the 23 and you just look at him and.
I just love the composure of the quarterback and he just sits there, sees what he wants nice toss and the speed.
Yeah.
On target fast from Justin Roper.
2 minutes, 16 seconds.
To go in our game.
Buford trailing Dublin by three points but with the football go for this time play action looking five again This time it's Hendrix Hendrix inside the 10/1 down and goal the goal for Buford Wilcher on the tackle.
And Dave this is what.
Championship team this is the champion teams do that.
They just keep their poise and they just keep playing.
And you talked about it, Bill, the passing game and we did see in the first half and you wanted a lot if they were going to do it.
And sure enough, that's exactly what's happened.
First and goal at the nine yard line.
Now they'll go back to the Gordon Brown game and Standridge hit by Nick.
Blakely and he felt all £320 of him that time.
No gain on the play.
But Nick's just phenomenal, though, just to be able to move.
The way he came down that line.
We're going to take a time in the field, Dublin, with a three point lead.
And earlier we talked about we talked to Coach Roger Holmes about what he likes about coaching high school football.
I think the most important thing to me about the coaching or the thing that I like the best is is being able to work with a group of young men that will respond to what you want them to do.
I think that as much as anything is the fun part.
They realize you hold the keys to the dressing room and so they're willing to work extremely hard to to be successful.
And his team is having success tonight, up by three points after being down by 14.
This game, they need to come up with some kind of defensive stand here.
Go Duke with the ball inside the ten at the nine yard line, second down minute, 50 to go.
They be good.
To get some pressure from from that down for coach Dexter Woods squad.
Has won 18 consecutive postseason games.
Hendrix splits up top.
Sandrich in the backfield behind quarterback Justin Roper.
And that emotion that Roper wants to throw has some time fires.
A little miscommunication there.
Nobody.
But we may have a flag.
We do have a flag, may have interference.
See for Irish there in the end zone, Coach Holmes wants to know what's going on and that's going to be in and pass interference against Dublin.
Look at the replay of Roper rolling on that first down and finish finishes third go trying to get it to Chase BURNETT again and he got all tangled up with Brandon Edmond so that'll be an automatic first down half the distance.
For the ball.
Be just inside the five yard line, give this time to standards and Mark picks up about a yard and a half.
Great start by the Dublin defense do not get rattled by the call.
And here Dublin worrying about the clock running out before they get a chance at the football again.
We'll call a time out 132 to play and Dublin clinging to a three point lead.
No, Dave, at this point, it comes down to be like a chess match between these two coaches.
And Dexter would plotting his strategy.
The air game has gotten him this far, but now they've gone back.
Once they got inside the ten there's Dan by Mark Standridge, which has over a hundred yards rushing.
I been this deep inside till you get you got to you know be aware you can't put so much pressure coming off the air when all of those ends.
He's got a big play receiver, Hendrix.
You see the Buford fans and some Dublin folks.
A lot of green and gold here for.
Our Double-A matchup this afternoon Time outs over Roper brings them.
To the line of scrimmage falls just inside the just outside three yard line standards puts his head down by eight and gets inside the one but he does not get in.
Dave What was.
Really interesting about that play, because I looked down to see who the nose tackle was, it was Chris Poole.
Buhler You normally plays linebacker and he's the one to get a big hit down there.
You see your numbers, 78 wobbly and 60 Smith and on.
That tackle and another time out with a minute and 16 to play third down and earlier in.
The week we talked to coach Dexter Ward about what he loves about being a high school.
Football.
For me, coach is about relationships, the relationship you have with your coaching staff, the camaraderie there.
It's just so much fun to get ready for a game and to put your product out there week in and week out.
Then the relationship with the players to see young men buy into something and pay a price to improve themselves, make a commitment to see them be a part of a family and reap all the intangible rewards that come through those relationships.
The coaching staff player relationship, the player player relationship, seeing the parents buy into seeing your community get excited about it all those relationships, when they're all focused on a group of young men trying to do something exceptional.
That's what makes coaching fun to me.
And those trips to the Dome as well.
Five years in row you've been here.
47 game win streak finally snapped this year by central Gwinnett.
Ball at the one yard line third down and goal for Buford trying to take the lead but then he dives over the line in for the go ahead score Evan just a dove play one yard out his second touchdown of the night and it's now 2720.
The wolves have recaptured the lead and just good poise by that offensive line just to stay in and stay low.
McGloin will come on to try the extra point three.
For three so far today, and that would not do as well.
But there's a flag on the play.
Somebody up front went a little early offsides on doubling of a line up and try again extra work.
Campbell encroachment on the green team there but also go ahead and kick the extra point.
Of a play did not count they don't have the option of taking it means that you've got to try again.
We're holding its spot this way right through the middle.
Yvonne denying a one yard run and the wolves have taken a 2824 lead, 113 to play in the ballgame.
Well, plays 73 yards and it took just a minute and 23 seconds.
To get it done.
You know, looking at this game from the outset, I figured it definitely would be a lot of a lot of intensity.
But to be a 27.20.
8 to 24 game at this point in, we've had a.
Lot.
That's just good TV.
I've got to go in here.
That's what we had done was got one timeout left to work with a.
Minute, 13 seconds to try and get something done.
McGowan will kick it off.
Yes, that's a happy team Roper.
So cool on that drive pass it when he needed to are you go two touchdowns on the day three Von went on from 19 yards out that last one just one guarantees it up and here we go good strong.
Kick off into the end zone for a touchback.
Well, the.
Irish will be forced to start at their own 20.
Dave, we talked about before now Irish have it.
They are good at these big plays, especially that man right there.
Remember he took off 91 yards last week on a quarterback throw.
Ben Cochran, Rodger Holmes, his squad has gone on the road.
They finished third in their region on the west side of Region three.
And had to fight their way on the road.
And they got one timeout left and a minute.
13 here to try and keep.
This dream alive.
Gotta wonder 50% but 94 yards and a touchdown rolling out to his right That's impressive Got lots of crosses and throws it away for the wolves draped all over him.
Jonathan Owens got a big mid on him, but Cochran able to throw it out of bounds and save the loss.
It'll be second and ten great.
Play by Owens just coming straight up field Shipman not shedding the block Just throwing the blocker aside.
Knocks him aside Just get out of my way I got business.
To senior 619 £195 Owens with a big play there.
Now, in the one minute and 7 seconds, second and ten from the 20 yard line, Johnson drops back.
More pressure.
This time he'll have to run it and he will not get much.
Maybe a yard hit from behind.
By Ryan Gilder Meyer Third down and nine clock.
Continues to roll.
Inside of 50.
This part nearly kicked off the court by Roger and Bryan, able to get out of bounds and stop the clock at.
The 30.
Gary on Taylor hit him out Well I look like Thor.
Marrow was going to pick that ball off, but a great throw by Cochran.
Yeah just sits in.
Barrow just about got a hand on it but couldn't do it.
And Wilcher turns upfield and gets a nice gain of 11 yards out to the 32.
Well, put a good hat on the man to man just because.
He had 41 seconds.
To go.
Clock is stopped.
The Irish.
Need a touchdown.
Down by four points It'll show a pass and that will not get far ball loose.
I think that's going to be ruled.
An incomplete pass, though.
Wilcher, the intended receiver, all sorts the wolves in the backfield to disrupt that play.
You've got continuing to bring the pressure.
You see, it tried to run a little ad.
Buford is not dropping back in prevent defense.
They're playing straight up 34 seconds play second down and ten at the 32 yard.
Line forward in the backfield Johnson going out fires Got it man That's Bullock over to the.
46 yard line Steps out of bounds That'll stop the clock And Chris Pooler came in with a four receptions He had a couple more tonight so ball out to the 47/1 down for Dublin FOX shows 20.
9 seconds and Dublin mounting a great drive I just hope there's enough time left on the clock.
Darkwa looks over the defense and drops back.
Georgia five Slant pattern almost a great catch by Taylor but the ball a.
Little bit him Bryant has got a touchdown grab tonight Didn't pull that one It you see it again a little slant and out of the reach.
Just a little bit.
The sophomore Taylor.
Is split up top on a second and 1026 seconds now left to play.
Dollar goes in motion they fake it to him Tucker via sideline Nice catch On his.
Knees is Taylor let's see with a spot on he's right at the first down mark they may have to measure, so that'll stop the clock.
16 seconds to go.
So Dublin keeping the fans in their the fans hanging around in this one because his team mounting a nice drive here in the final they got the football back with a minute 13 to go and he's got him inside the 45 of Buford and just enough for the first down boy perfect pattern by Brandon Taylor Stop right where he needed to get to.
And that definitely make it an interesting game.
Ball is set.
To start the clock here.
And is there Eddie Cochran, 10 seconds to go under some pressure he will go down they're going to have to burn that final time out.
Tackled from behind by Justin Curry Big Sack by Curry.
And now there's just 7 seconds to go and Dublin is out of timeouts loss of two yards on that play.
In a time when you needed a big play.
And I still say with 7 seconds on the clock, there's still time.
We've seen Cochran throw it that far, know he's got the arm.
Let's listen in on what they're going to do here in the three talking to Brandon Taylor.
Got a couple more grabs tonight.
There's the Buford side.
They're fired up, but they got to be a little bit worried because there's.
This game not over.
Remember the parents there cheering on their squads, 45 sack, 45 yards to go.
Rather, for Dublin.
Just 7 seconds.
Left.
Then Cochran dropping back, steps up, throws it as far as he can.
But you people down the five yard line is going to be picked off by Taylor and the.
Wolves are going to survive and move on to the title game.
A gutsy effort by Dublin.
They come back, take a late lead but Buford like champions, they are.
Get the winning points in the final minute and a half and hold on for the 2824 victory.
You were probably playing one of their finest game.
Never gave up, never got rattled.
I mean, that's what champions your football team do.
You just continue playing.
Before help of four straight state title stays the long day.
We'll take a break.
We'll be right back.
And get your post-game 2824, the final.
