Live from the arena and make him coliseum center plex.
It is the three A boys state championship game.
It'll be Columbia and Butler.
It is our final game of what has been an outstanding weekend of college high school basketball here on GPB.
And of course, we'll crown the final champion here tonight on Georgia Public Broadcasting and the men who are standing by to call tonight's game here on GPB.
Our courtside right now, Dave Gardner and Phil Hansen.
Good evening and have a great call.
Good evening, Gil, and thank you.
Of course, as folks are getting set to set their clocks forward an hour tonight, we're get set for the final game of championship weekend right here on GPB.
And we may have very well saved our best for last bill.
I'm telling you what, if you like a fast pace up and down action, Columbia brings great intensity, great pressure, very well coached.
And the flip side, Butler has a great star power individuals with Washington, a very resilient bunch.
Excellent game ahead of us.
Let's go ahead and talk about Columbia.
Of course, the Eagles looking to make it back to back state titles.
So they're led by Al-G Key.
But he is the key.
He is the key that starts the engine.
This kid is an automatic fast break.
When he gets the rebound, he can shoot the three and take the ball to the basket.
He's a point guard forward, whatever they need him to do.
He probably drove the bus down here.
He's an outstanding player.
It's good to take a look at that.
Starting five for Columbia again.
Shamsi Deen, certainly a guy to watch for.
We'll talk about him.
The young sophomore Allen Daniels and Thomas Early recorded with Dr. Phil coach Phil McCreary, the longtime head coach of Columbia, about tonight's championship match up with Columbia coach Philip McCrary.
Coach, how important is this for you and for your players tonight to play in this state championship game?
Well, it's always been a program to get to this level, but just to be able to play in a game of this atmosphere is a great speaks volume for your program and the kid and hard work that's the things they put forth in into it coach you're going for back to back state championships.
That's a rare feat.
That's a great goal.
Well, like I said, for any program to be able to just go back to back, that's hard.
That's hard within itself, even just to get to this point.
But we're fortunate to be one of the ones that's here.
And we're just going to put forth the best effort that we have.
Good luck tonight.
Thanks a lot.
Six straight Final Four for that Columbia Eagle team.
It's going to be fun to watch here tonight.
All right.
Let's talk a little bit about Butler Bulldogs and no, we don't mean the runner up nationally to Duke.
Last year, the high school out of Augusta.
They are here in the state championship and they're led by Chris Washington.
I know Butler University, you probably like to have Chris Washington.
This kid is the hub in which the wheel revolves around he can shoot the three.
He's six, seven plays seven feet, got great wingspan of a DC nine.
He can take the ball to the basket.
He has great defensive feet.
He is a big time player to watch 17.6 points a game.
As you see the numbers here is your Bulldogs starting lineup.
Akeem Johnson, the senior, Archie the junior, Washington and Lambert, the forwards along with Ronald Jones, the sophomore, some younger players and the starting lineup here tonight.
Well very early on here our very own Mark Harmon caught up with Cervantes's body, the head coach of the Butler Bulldogs, to talk about tonight's title match up with head coach Cervantes body, talk about the importance of being in this state championship game tonight.
I mean, this is what you practice hard for every day.
You know, this this is what is our bore down to.
This is why we work hard.
You know, it's the goal we set.
And so far we've achieved the goal and hopefully we'll come out victorious tonight.
It means everything.
What's it mean to your players to have a chance to have a special night like this and have a shot at the state championship?
No, I tell them you had to make the most of this opportunity because there's no telling if you will ever be back here.
You know, you never know what the future holds you here.
Right now, you're fortunate enough to be here.
So, you know, you got to make the most of it.
Coach, good luck tonight.
Thank you.
Well, it wasn't long ago that coach body was player body, but in such a short time, he has certainly led this bulldog team to an absolute wonderful effort here in 2011.
Phil, let's talk some of the year, the keys to the game here.
Of course, the Columbia Eagles came in, as you mentioned, 29 and three overall winner, Phil's Keys to the game here tonight.
What do the Eagles have to do to win them back to back one?
I think the Eagles need to implement their offense.
Take it to the basket, attack the paint, attack the nail area in the lane, take it right to the basket.
I think defensive transition is a key.
In any championship game.
You've got to be able to go from offense to defense, stop the fast break, kill the ball.
You know, I think rebounding, it all starts with that.
On the offensive end of the floor and on the defensive end the floor, if you can get multiple cracks at it, you're way ahead of the game and tempo.
It's got to be fast paced because Columbia is like Noah's Ark.
They have two of everything.
But absolutely, of course, they won the state title last year against Lagrange, 54 to 46 right here in this building.
Both boys and girls won titles last year.
The girls fell short in the semis the other night there to Washington County, who just wrapped up the triple AA girls title.
But the Columbia boys hoping to carry the banner for Decatur the rest of the way here tonight.
Flip side of that, the Butler Bulldogs at 25 and seven.
Overall, they've been challenged in this postseason.
What are the Bulldogs going to have to do to topple a very tough Columbia in defensive transition is huge rebounding again, you're going to have to rebound.
You're going to have to keep Columbia size and depth off the boards.
And the biggest thing I see is they got to avoid scoring droughts.
They cannot allow Columbia to run up five points here, six points here, ten points here.
Next thing you know, you're down 35.
And that that's all up due to mental discipline.
You've got to stay within your game plan If it looks like you've got a break, take it.
But you don't want to have fool's gold and rush it down there.
Take a quick shot, which is a miss there, which turns it at points on the other end.
So it's basically you're losing four points every time you swing.
Butler, of course, out of the playoffs last year, just ten and 15.
So what a turnaround one season under coach 42,909 in 1725 at 19 so absolutely the Bulldogs are here and ready to roll and so are we live right here on GPB.
It's the boys triple-A State championship.
When we return, let's get it started.
Yeah, let's get started.
Mr. Scott.

Have you tried one of these is something I can't believe we haven't done this before.
wow.
Look at that.

How did you jingle?
Do the check.
Let a good neighbor step on his there.

And it's the last trip away boys matchup between the Columbia Eagles out of Decatur, Georgia and the Butler Bulldogs out of Augusta.
And Butler on a mission here tonight to prove that it's not just about north Georgia and south Georgia.
The boys over at East Georgia can play as well.
Like I said, the collection of talent in the Atlanta area and Georgia in general is just off the charts.
It has to rank in the top three states in the country.
They're going to look at the players.
Chris Washington, 25, tipping center court alongside Columbia's Stefan Allen, six more senior right off the bat.
Columbia with the first opportunity comes up short, though, and Butler quickly back the other way.
Here's their officials Mark Katz, Jeff Taylor and Bill Lewis.
The three inch drives tonight, the stripped away boys match up one.
What do you have for us in the blue jerseys here tonight?
The visiting blue butler in the cold white on your monitor and butler off the mark from outside.
Quickly back on the other end in transition and the hoop right there for Tahj Sampson the five nine sophomore.
Well as we said in the opening, definitely key is the one that starts the engine on this team but it's powered by Daniels and Samson.
In the end, Columbia can really go back on the other end though.
Good bucket right there by the Bulldogs, who not scored two apiece inside the first 45 seconds.
Stop the ball quickly.
Back on the other end.
Big bucket right there.
Thomas, Thomas, Thomas the six five junior at this four points, 2 to 1 press coach, the crew, he's going to switch up his defense.
He's he's got off the one two half court trampoline.
There's a 2 to 1 full court press and what are they going to call it on the floor?
I think they're going to call that one on the floor right there.
Ronald Jones went up with it.
Star Jones, a65 sophomore, averaging almost nine points all game.
But it will be on the floor right here for his team foul of the night.
Here is Dan Lambert who will inbound it You see a team Johnson over in the corner and it looks like we've got a quick time out on the floor there double team trying to avoid the turnover early in this ballgame.
Well, you don't want to try to inbound the ball in the corner due to the fact that now the sideline in the baseline become a defender.
And one guy, again, as we mentioned earlier, it can can become three or two can become four.
You want to keep great spacing against this pressure that Columbia brings.
Well, Phil, it didn't take long for Taj to get into this one right here.
Sam Sardine, of course, the only returning starter from last year's state championship, Columbia team, and he's only a sophomore.
Well, he's great.
Off the left here.
He's going to go left 90% of the time.
If he's even with you, he's leaving.
I mean, he can get his shoulders around you.
He's gone wearing number 13 again.
There you see him right there.
The young guy Coach McCreery calls him like a 50 year old midget.
Now, that's that's his words, not mine.
He's a great player.
And the reason he calls him that is because he is shorter than the other players, but certainly nothing derogatory there.
He just wise beyond his years.
Chris Daniels, That's the guy I really like for Columbia.
He gets it done.
On the offense and defense.
Men of the floor can rebound, he can score.
He's the heart and soul of the Columbia team.
Daniels Working.
That was Al-G key number 23, the guy we focused on a top here tonight who drew the foul.
They're the six four seniors.
They're going to look at who could very well be key tonight if Columbia is to win another state title.
He's a big time warrior who can score, take it to the basket, can dunk, shoot the three he's going to be in every time he has the ball in his hand, he can make something happen.
Know I'll be disappointed if we don't see some guys throw him down here tonight.
Get ready.
And the second one rims out of there.
Nice rebound by Jones as Lambert working in the backcourt right here trying to dribble around the double team in trouble trying to get rid of it does so avoiding the backward violation Tall look right there too tall go to Washington.
See this is what he talked about earlier.
You got to control the tempo of the game.
It looks like it's there.
It's like fool's gold.
You can't come down and just throw it away.
Trying to make the easy pass.
Have a short pass in a long pass.
Have somebody in the middle in reverse.
The ball.
Columbia averages 76.3 a game offensively as a team, Butler averages 60.
Offensively, they allow 45 shots from outside off the mark right there wouldn't go it was number 15 Stefon Allen with the a shot sure so that was nice offense by Columbia the ball went from one side of the floor in the middle reverse to the other side and an open three pointer on the other end.
That one off the iron wouldn't go to Washington.
Here he goes.
He's a one man break pull up Chance indeed knocks it cold.
This is the tempo that Columbia likes to play Now against this pressure you got to engage to now look opposite is Lambert inside in traffic Washington though came down with it It's like wow the whistle is big is Chris Washington is he's got to keep that ball above his head don't bring it down with the little guys play keep it chin high and above and go up strong Butler winning the possession right there the is staying with the home team on the scoreboard here tonight they're going to look at Jeffrey arching five eight junior with a couple of clutch free throws the other night and that shot rims out of there Big rebound right there and Stanford being quickly back on the other end Well drive towards the here puts it up shot won't go to follow his there though for Thomas have his rebound by Daniels is reminiscent of Wisconsin he really gets that back sorry to go back way back in the memo big way on back here Here's Dan Lambert with the basketball pull up right here and he knocks it down.
Good looking shot right there by Lambert.
The six five junior was averaging ten a game this season.
They play back on the other end, though.
This thing's a track meet that's offensive and back the other way.
Great defensive positioning.
What you want to get on the charges.
The first guy to the spot, he got locked in and take that charge with your chest Stefon Allen and they're good job defensively by the Bulldogs to stand in there and take it make it you don't want to reach your hands back Tuck your chin land on your button slide.
great.
Look inside it.
nice job of penetration.
Chris Washington lays it down the senior with his first points of the night nine six ballgame Columbia by three and what a drive right there.
Unable to finish it though right along the line back the other way it goes if you're coach McCreery you got to like the way Thomas is playing inside.
He's been able to get most all offensive rebounds this term.
All right.
32.
First off, the bench tonight for Coach McCreery He's six seven junior into the lineup for the Eagles 40 straight wins against triple AA teams dating back to the 2009 semifinals 40 straight wins against eight Georgia teams.
Unbelievable run for the Columbia Eagles.
Butler, meanwhile, on the other hand, making the state championship their third final four.
They made one way back in 66 with the first four recently in 2004.
Basketball.
You go for Archie who's out he on the other end picks it out open three chances Dean is there and knocks it down and that's due to keys dribble penetration it Butler had to do a better job of stopping ball on top of the key ties with seven first quarter points already and it's a 12 six even lead three point look right here from the corner Meyer no good kept alive though by Lambert and then take it away Whistle the foul right here is going to be on Lambert already off to attract me here.
It looks like we got a full time out on the floor with 333 to play in the opening quarter and it's the Columbia Eagles completed by six over the Butler Bulldogs.
We'll go ahead, step aside with him and be right back.
The triple Play Boys Final game live right here on GPB.

It's certainly a nice little added feature right there.
As you see the Columbia Eagles and Butler Bulldogs playing our final game right here as part of our live GPB coverage of this year's state championships.
Right now, Butler is having a little bit of a scoring drought and that's what we talked about in the opening.
They cannot have that happen.
They've got to scratch it at points more consistently faster.
And for Thomas Asiedu and he's got seven points here in this first quarter, still over 3 minutes to play.
And the young sophomore is certainly playing wise beyond his years here tonight and really taking control early on here and running that fast paced Columbia offensive.
Another pull up jumper back on this time comes up empty.
Nice job like those body for Butler going 53 zone for Coach McCrary come back in with Nate Mason on the side that one knocked away looking inside there however quickly back at the other end they waste no time.
That's our FaceTime found on the way up there again Butler doesn't get a shot off and here comes Colombia back down.
Now they're at the line increased lead to eight.
They're going to look they're a couple of different folks Chris Washington showing off his vertical there a little bit.
Definitely with the first guy I believe that was Johnson needs to stop the ball.
Then here comes Washington.
Clean it up first of two by Sharps Cardenas there.
He's got eight points already.
He's a heady player, really understands the game.
And you look at his numbers on the season, just a sophomore, but 12 and a half points, eight points, seven assists, three steals a game, second one rims out of there.
No good.
One of two on that trip, though.
It's a 13 six advantage for Columbia.
3009 cities.
Columbia lost to SAP Atlanta, Derrick Favors.
Other than that, though, they're trying to make it four titles in six years.
That was the only thing that prevented them from being in this title game the last four or four years in a row.
Butler's trying to match Columbia's speed on the perimeter with Archie in the game.
boy, what a save right there by Ronald Jones.
He inside and it looks like offensive going to be called here against Columbia.
I got to see that again.
Here it is.
And I think he was moving.
That was Al-G key, the game driving in there.
But it will be Butler basketball Bulldogs of course 2006 quarter finals and lost against Spencer in that one.
But since then though it's been three straight losing seasons until this year.
Coach Body doing an excellent job guiding the Bulldogs strategically through the state bracket this year they've been challenged in spots, certainly a tough game against to the quarter finals and then last night against Franklin County, 4539, a hard play game there.
Butler able to win it and here they are tonight it's back in action playing for the title underneath Paul they're still rolling around in they're in a fight traveling going to be called move on.
Jones Well he can't bring the ball down It just go straight back up there was nice offensive attack against the 131 matchup zone like a lot of you talk a lot about Jones and Lambert already in this ballgame the two are brothers should be noted here tonight so certainly some blood on the floor for Butler here tonight the champs out of region three and here's another shot by chance.
The data is already in double figures here.
Philly's got ten of the Eagles first 15 points in this game again he scored every time going left they got to make him go right You got to play that put that left foot up and play on his right leg.
The dribbling gives way here to Menifee, who checked into the game a moment ago.
That's Jeffrey Menifee, the five nine junior inside right there.
Washington found he will go to the line.
It's basically been about 2 to 3 minutes for the first opportunity for Butler to score.
Could take by Washington Washington's a67 senior undecided as a senior but a thousand point career scorer at Butler High School averaging 17 a game this year and he knocks down his third point of the night here in this first quarter.
There you get a look at his numbers on the season, 10.2 rebounds to go along with it and a few blocks a game.
He's a winner.
I take him yesterday Washington was named the region three player of the year this year that says a lot because that's a very tough region for high school basketball.
Reminds me of a young Chris Morris that played at Auburn.
Yep.
And Washington knocks down a pair of they're two of twos got for all Columbia the region champs out of region five so a couple of region champions going toe to toe here tonight the three boys contest as we hit the one minute mark the period number one the job by coach body going into the two three zone trying to slow down the Eagles three point shot off the mark wouldn't go for Nathaniel Mason the five seven freshman is in the ball game Minnesota in the game.
If he's gets his feet set, he can shoot it from where we're sitting.
Great three point range.
If he's a thousand yard rusher on the football team as well here is benefit 3.0.
So here we go.
How about that one right there?
Not sure he meant to do it, but he'll take the three.
You think you have to call that one play man.
There you go.
15, 11.
That's a huge shot right here.
Because as you mentioned, Phil, you got to avoid the scoring drought.
So the game will get out of hand against this Columbia team.
That's a huge bucket.
And the two three zone is slowing down the attack from Columbia.
Look for a little baseline movement.
You got to check that zone in the middle, right between the third marker.
In the second marker, when that zone is going to flex with a couple of ball movement and man movement.
How about the answer right there, though, SAMHSA Dean knocks down a tray of his own.
He's got 13 and a turnover and then a foul going to be called on Jones on the contact a lot of good two or three sport athletes we talked about Menefee being a thousand yard rushing football.
You also have a team Johnson who's a 100 200 meter track and field star for Butler High School.
Yeah, there's an official conference going on here talking about that last sequence right there, just like it will be Columbia Basketball here from the side, 12 consecutive wins for Columbia.
The only losses were against four teams Tucker, Miller Grove and Humble Texas and time will expire here in this first quarter 1811.
The score in favor of Columbia.
Well, step aside.
Be right back with quarter two live from the Macon Coliseum.
When we return, this time on Secrets of the Dead.

All right?

I'm not going to be like that guy.
I'm only going to do my hands.
I'm not going to end up like that guy.
Well, the champ leads the challenger so far at the start of the second quarter.
Columbia over Butler right now.
And here's your chance to chat live during the championship games.

So far, things are perhaps playing out the script, as you and I were talking about during the break, This number one Columbia team with the seven point lead.
But Butler hanging around as they've done throughout this entire postseason.
Definitely.
And again, the zone is seems to given Columbia a little bit of trouble to the fact that they can't seem to get up and down in transition like you like look right here inside knocked away good defense right there by Jones who shut the door got a hand on it.
Columbia three point shot blocked Yep got finger tip on that one it looked like well will be Butler basketball go at this we're going to say that was just a missed airball he got away with that but I think the zone with the length that Butler possesses, they don't have to close out as far.
So they're able to contest some of those shots.
And if he gives off right here to Kim Johnson, starting point guard, five nine senior averages 4.5.4 points a ballgame right here.
Here's Lambert Fires an inside Washington turnaround.
A little short right there kept alive though by Jones underneath do battle but Columbia clears it out.
Jones got a dunk that he's got to put that in here come the Eagles.
Well as I mentioned, Columbia is one of their only losses.
Mr. Miller drove wrap up the for a title for the fourth straight year last night at the arena Gwinnett that center.
That was a very tight ballgame though just a two point game 6664.
So that tells you what kind of team Columbia is.
There's another three point shot.
This one from a youngster, Nathaniel Mason, the freshman, and they can really shoot it if he gets his feet set.
Columbia's propensity to be able to shoot the three is stretching the front line of that butler defense, exposing the middle.
wow.
What a drive right there by Tim Johnson.
His acrobatic way in right there makes it 2113 Great pass by Daniels even though it wasn't quite it was a great look The ball went from one side of the floor middle he looked down opposite nice pass sort of a field goal story Columbia 50% right now Butler just five of 15 low that's due to Columbia's pressure They've come down and you know having to rush down low eight point deficit right here for the Bulldogs great look inside there.
Speaking of that one, Ronald Jones, the benefactor of that wonderful look from Johnson.
Nice finish.
21, 15 bulldogs hanging in there, fired up a little bit.
You see how much Johnson pulls out, which is going to expose the middle and Daniels is going to be open the look opposite the foul there it is on the other end Butler The transition game right here lays it up Washington but once again draw the foul had four points in that first quarter It's a smart play by Washington he never stopped take the ball right to the basket you you look at Washington right there good looking ball players we talked about a thousand point career score at the line once again for a shot This is he'll have another chance adding back in for Columbia along with 32 Jamal Reid, number 40 stepping in for Butler.
That's Chaz Clark, the six four senior.
They're going to look at Washington's numbers so far, four points and two rebounds.
Second one on the way right here and knocks it down five points for Washington.
That's just 2116.
So Butler slowly climbing their way back into it.
Right now, just a five point ballgame in the zone again has slowed down The Eagles.
A nice glass to the middle reed with it and lays it up three point shot is good he does have a nice six foot stroke six seven junior stepping outside popping.
It has indeed a good looking shot back to an eight point game out here.
A turnaround off the front of the line would go scramble for the ball still loose, finally taken out of there by the Eagles who are off and running right here.
You got to stop the ball.
Good defense, kick it out.
Three point shot would go down and it was good.
Defensive position.
Too bad going make horizontal passes against that pressure metric.
Diagonal passes shot by Menefee off the mark and the whistle here when everything with an angle that was on Washington his first five feet fouls now it gets Colombia four on Butler there you can look at coach McCrory 24 years as a head coach, part of the Clark Atlanta Hall of Fame 500 plus wins, was a football and baseball player and took an unlikely path to become a basketball coach.
A lot of his friends say how in the world he coached basketball.
He was a football baseball guy, but he's done a remarkable job.
He's just started with it, has never looked back and has had a lot of success.
They were better close in the other two points, Columbia looking for their fourth title.
In six years.
They have been the dominant team.
The first two they in six and eight were for eight titles.
They dropped down a88811 last year and now looking to make it back to back a trip away and may be the first teams to win back to back triple-A titles since Dunwoody did it back in 0506.
I really like the way Butler's demeanor is and epitomizes their head coach.
They're very calm champs today right here is going to pick up the foul.
Looks like they had a full time out on the floor for 11 left in the half 2416 Columbia leads it a step aside with it and be right back there watching the triple-A Boys State championship game live on GPB.
I'm on.

Step up there in my office.

I think we're good.
State Farm agents are there when you need them.

Support these great games and great kids and thank you right here from GPB.
See a lot of great kids here tonight.
Of course, student athletes on display all weekend long on GPB as part of our state championship coverage.
And we thank you for being with us here tonight as part of our nightcap, the final game, 11 of 11 playing out here in the first half is almost complete.
Let me back to their man to man.
But they do a good job of sagging in the paint.
If they're getting this net the ball, a lot of help side principles to it taken away right there.
Nicely done by Justin Thomas back on the other end that's algae key 23 kicks it back out Chance added 13 points in the first quarter has been held scoreless so far in the second traveling right they're going to be calling back to Butler it goes they've got to fill Hansen with the Mark Harmon Court along with the rest of the deep team.
Our very own Gil Tyree will be with us at halftime from GPB Sports Central, talking to some special guests there.
Before we wrap things up here later this evening.
what a weekend it's been and what an atmosphere here.
So making Coliseum, of course, Jeezy and Buford making up both crowds for the double AA games.
On what a triple-A girls game we had earlier between Dalton and Washington's exactly two teams undefeated playing each other for the state title.
And in the end, it was the lady hawks from Washington County who pulled it out.
But a great game.
It was it was fun to watch.
Plumlee did a nice job of switching their defense.
They're going to double team any screen on the ball by Butler.
So when that happens, if you're the screener, you want to pop back, reverse it and then we'll take it right to the basket and have a two on one on the backside.
I mean, if he put up a tough shot right there, tip wouldn't go ball still bouncing around.
Good hustle right there by 32 Archie to chase it down nice close out by Reed defensively Columbia's quite good defense this year that one was off the back of the arm but a second chance right here and one for Dan Lambert Wow he rebounds extremely well for a big guard.
Basically having another small forward on the floor now stands six foot five.
So yeah, he's got the size of a forward, that's for sure.
This goes to show it's going to be a foul on right here Crouch the five two freshman they're going to look at Lambert's numbers this season ten points a game, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Lambert trying to complete the three point play right here.
And it goes in and out, taken down by Reed and back the other way.
3 minutes left here at the half 2418.
Butler hanging in there though.
Good ball game.
Daniels back in the game for Columbia and to go off the glass right there kept alive right along that baseline picked out chance added up and under right here puts up the shot and hits and boy he's as good as money and he's going to go left.
What you're going to do when you attack the shooter, you want to attack his chest, run at him, breakdown, defeat your momentum.
Low center of gravity, low in attack his chest.
He's going to have a jump off ball right here possession hero Butler will runs will maintain possession but 230 left in the half the closer you get to your man to close out, the shorter your stride has to be.
But not a lot of outside a perimeter shooting by Butler.
So they do rely a lot on the inside game their transition points, a lot of running.
It's going to be tough here tonight against a Columbia team that's equally talented, if not more so.
It can really get up and down the floor as well.
Butler may have to rely a little bit on some of their some of those 60 foot jumpers We're talking about.
Zone is really then what the doctor ordered for Butler tonight is a good shot by the critic This is a great chess match by Coach Berry now is putting Reed in the center of that two three zone where he can hit that foul line jumper.
Ten point ballgame right here.
The Eagles have quietly opened up a double digit lead back on the other end right here.
The three point shot off the mark by two one go.
Kept alive, though, on the boards there by Washington.
It gets it to go.
Good work right there by Washington.
Well, as we said earlier, that's what Columbia.
Does teams like Nova came for you know it you know when you think you're in it you're in it next you know you're down eight, down ten, down 11 minute 30 left in the half an outside shot by reed one go this time one and out Butler's motto this year as a team as one team one dream that rings as the team motto this year Butler four starts this season looking for a state title seven losses this year.
But boy, they're right here in the state.
Midfield splits two defenders off the glass too strong would go back and running the other way.
How's he going to lay it up Good Rebound by Thomas.
and the foul is there just Justin Thomas He never stopped run and run right to the front of the rim If you're a big guy whether you get the ball or not run right the front of the rim six five.
Thomas again averaging almost ten points a game a lot of size on the floor right now.
So turn around right there a little bit short and the rook back the other way to now looks like butler will be in the bonus right here We'll shoot the one on one It looks like Washington as number four.
Akeem Johnson steps back in for Butler.
They could look at Coach McCreary and that's the one luxury that the Eagles have and they have such great depth.
You take out Reid, you bring in Thompson and you come in with Allen, the bulkier perimeter power, That's a great luxury to have as your coach.
Washington has made a living at the free throw line here, filling his first half, seven points, three rebounds.
This is on the front end, though, the one and one I really love the way Daniels rebounds.
It does Thomas still have a foul to give before Columbia That's all bounce pass he had it Here's Butler back on the other end Dan Lambert with the basketball kicks it out 16 seconds left in the half three point shot from way out there.
That one misses everything out of the hand of Washington.
He was getting a little greedy right there.
Probably not the shot that coach body wanted in that situation.
But they want to take definitely the last shot of the half instead of an NBA plus three.
so now it's Columbia off the inbound.
Who has a chance to play Butler with a little bit of backcourt pressure and they come up with a turnover.
Great play by Jones 5 seconds knocked away Daniels looks like they're going to get him over the back there and that was a bad foul.
That was a bad for the commit with 5 seconds to go great play by Jones Just make the pass You just you're not going to gain anything out of that.
Basically what you want to do is take your inside handle and closest to the middle and deliver the shooter's outside shoulder going furthest from the middle, and your body would never touch him.
Basically, he's ahead of you.
He's going to get the shot off.
Washington, again, back at the line, hits this time, rattles home.
The front end will have another Washington with eight points in the half.
Daniels is more important to his team than those two free throws in regards to having him rack up fouls.
Butler with a nine right here, they pull with an eight look even better, especially if they can keep Columbia from scoring here in the situation.
Washington two of three on that trip has nine.
Look at your hands.
You need to get the ball and go the recipe inbound play right here.
The luxury that Columbia has with the ball goes in the key.
He's another guard on the floor and he can go off to the races, puts it over Sam Dean at the buzzer, throws it up off the glass would not go wave off the follow there and that's how the first half answer here inside the making coliseum 30 to 22 in favor of the number one team a triple away the Columbia Eagles who will carry an eight point lead into the locker room.
Our very own Mark Harmon is standing by with coach Phil McCreery.
As we get set to a throw it down him a prayer with a few words for one of his players there, Stefon Allen.
And now our very own mark is ready.
Mark standing by with Coach McCreery.
Hey, thanks very much.
Coach McCrary, your team up eight points at the half.
Your assessment of the first half, We are about eight point about about a look we doing some dumb stuff with the basketball with not meeting the ball like we're supposed to be taken ill advised shots they're not getting the ball we're need to go and we just some correction we got to make it half.
Okay.
Well, good luck at the second half.
Coach Phil McCrary not happy with the way his team played despite that eight point lead.
And we'll be here for the next generation of telescopes.
A new quest begins.
Can we see the invisible go back further in time?

Halftime underway here in our final game of championship weekend.
Our exclusive coverage of the Georgia High School Association's basketball championships here on GPB.
You see the triple A score right now in the boys division.
You see Columbia out in front of Butler by the count of 3222.
We'll see what happens in the final two quarters.
The crown, a champion here in the great state of Georgia.
We welcome in the two principals of these two outstanding institutions, Greg Thompson, a butler on my right.
And we should also mention that Mr. A.C. is on my your A.C. is on my left.
AG You're as ag You're as aging of Columbia's on my right.
On my left, I should say.
I want to ask you this.
I'm a start with you, your your program and what you guys accomplished right now.
I mean, this is a great program.
You know, Coach McCreary has done a great job, you know, just building the program up the consistency.
We're so proud of the fabulous staff, as you know.
You know, just getting behind the program and the school, of course, you know, we our students, I think, do a great job of the academics and athletics together.
And and so we're just proud of them, which is happy here, too, to just, you know, represent DeKalb County in this state finals game.
You know, when Principal USA G. Looks at what he's accomplished academically at your program and you just touched on it a little bit, what are you proud of?
Most of I'm most proud of.
You know, of course, last year we had two games, Millennium Scholar.
And this year, you know, I'm very proud of the magnet program, the math science career technology program that we have.
I'm so proud of the ROTC program, cautionary arts, just the different programs that we have throughout the school.
Our students do a great job with getting involved in everything and I'm I'm I'm really proud of just how the students have taken charge of the graduation test prep.
We've been going after school tutorials and Saturday school tutorials, getting ready for that test coming up in two weeks.
And the kids have done a great job and all.
I feel like we have the best students and we're just proud that DeKalb County is here and representing representing them the DeKalb County school system.
But the DeKalb County definitely represented because you guys are in mass here tonight.
I'm going to go to your counterpart right now, Greg Thompson, and what you guys are accomplishing at Butler.
You got to be really, really proud about that academically.
Yes, sir.
We're really proud of what we've got going on at Butler High School.
Academic CLE.
We've been doing a lot of things, getting the kids ready for the graduation tests Saturday, school after school, tutorial programs going on.
We've had targeted, we've started as kids we need to get put pay a little bit more attention to it to get them ready for the graduation test.
And our teachers, parents, the communities are rallied behind us both academically and athletically.
You know, I've said this about many times, and I've talked to all the principals who participated in state championship weekend.
You know, this is a partnership.
It's a partnership between the community.
It's a partnership between the parent, teacher and the student.
And ultimately, you want to see the student really do well in the next phase of his life, correct?
Definitely.
I think that as administrators and as educators, what we're doing is trying to prepare our kids for the next level.
I mean, you know, although this is basketball, you know, not every child will get a scholarship, you know, in sports or, you know, athletics.
So, of course, we preach the academics at Columbia High School.
Our band has done well.
We had a young lady just signed a big scholarship with soccer.
We had over 13 athletes, signed Division two, Division one, Division one, Double-A football scholarships.
We also have the academics rolling as well.
So, you know, 250,000 kids are involved in Georgia High School Association activities.
That really is an astounding mark.
But it also goes to show how important athletics are involved in your daily curriculum at your school.
Greg Thompson Yes, I know in order to have a successful school, I think extra curricular activities fit hand-in-hand and that's one of the things that we've been trying to improve in.
Bartlett High School is getting more kids involved in extracurricular activities this year.
We've done a good job of changing the culture of athletic programs.
We've been an instrumental part in that a lot, along with our fine arts department as well.
You're in, say, Jay and Greg Thompson.
I want to say thank you.
Somebody is going to be a champion and I don't want to get between both of you because I may get smashed, but it looks like it's going to be your kids.
You guys are going to bring home the bacon, right?
Eagles.
Go, Eagles.
And thanks.
Go, Bulldogs.
All right, great.
Thompson USA team, we want to say thank you.
Now let's go courtside to the gentleman calling tonight's game the final game here on GPB.
And what an outstanding job they have done with the whole.
In addition to our outstanding staff here at Georgia Public Television, we pitch it now to Dave and also Phil.
Gentleman, it's all yours.
All right.
Thank you, Gil.
And right now, let's meet the other member of our team.
Our Carmen is standing by right now with Coach Bobby.
Thanks very much.
Coach body, your team trailing by eight points of half your assessment of first half of it.
it just got out on the break and made a couple of layups early.
That's all.
You know you can see before lay off, they may earn it That's why we down or they made a few.
We missed a few, but we hoping to correct all of that in these next 8 minutes.
I'm going to ask you what kind of strategic changes are going to make as you head into the second half.
Now we're going to go, man, we're going to trap.
We're going professional.
We're not going to change much.
We just don't do it better.
All right.
Thanks very much.
Good luck in the second half.
Back to Phil and Dave.
Thank you.
All right.
Thank you, Mark.
Let's go to take a look at the first half highlights and this one, both teams up and down the floor.
A lot of energy here tonight.
And early on, of course, it was the Butler Bulldogs who got off to a good start right here and really walking this Columbia team up.
Definitely they came out full guns and capitalized early with Washington's dunk there.
And of course, Columbia would eventually grab some momentum, not before a big three point shot right there from Jeffrey Minifie.
Got some momentum going, but the Eagles would find their stroke.
Todd's chance to deny the sophomore a 15 in the first half.
He's carried them.
He's the he's pacing the engine.
This guy is really a tough player.
And of course, you have to be in right here to spot it for yet another.
Trey knocks it down big first half for the youngster right there.
The only returning starter on this eagle line.
If they're going to look at the numbers of the first half field goals, 12 of 28 for Columbia, just nine of 27 for Butler.
There's a difference right there.
50% from three point range, just one of seven for Butler in that department.
Turnovers four apiece rebounds Columbia with the edge in the first half Sampson as we said 15 points Washington the leader for Butler with nine points and three rebounds should be a very good second half right here inside to make it coliseum And we hope that you'll join us.
Stay with us right here.

Georgia's membership corporations lighting the way Columbia Leads It 3022 As we get set for the start of the second half.
Here again, number one, Columbia Eagles taking on the Butler Bulldogs at 25 and seven.
Columbia has not lost a region game since 2008 and that was the region title game against Stone Mountain.
They won the championship last year looking to make it two in a row this year, but this one is too close to call at this point.
Bill.
We got a long way to go, Dave.
A long way to go.
Well, this is a Columbia team that has not really been tested much throughout the postseason.
They've had a lot of blow outs along the way.
West Hall was a fairly tight game in round two, but the semifinals against Eagles landing last night, 7247.
But the Bulldogs certainly playing them tough in that zone.
It's a wide open in the middle.
If they'll slash a cutter to the middle and send a guy to the baseline, basically overloading the side.
Columbia opens the second half with the basketball.
We talked about the big first half, that chance at the pad feeling inside right there knocked away the pass to Thomas's defense.
He thought Allen was going to shoot it.
But there again, Coach McCreary did a nice job of sending Allen, the shooter, to the short corner and then bring it up Daniels to the elbow and then taking the ball off a screen at the top to the win, basically making three guys play after play for overloading the side as Lambert with the basketball feeds.
Washington, who had a pretty good first half their Washington with nine points for Butler good defense right there the turnaround on the follow by Washington nice take but he's got to eliminate putting the ball on the floor because every time he puts on the forward, they're going to double down on him.
And Thomas did a good job defensively to get his hands on the last one.
Washington was able to get it back and miss on the other end though kept alive jump ball call possession hero Butler is Owens is given by Butler he's giving the Eagles some trouble due to the fact that the lane on that back line with Washington Jones and Lambert are so long they play much bigger than they are tall Butler with nine straight wins coming in their last loss February 4th against Glen Hill's three losses against Laney, a late school, of course, eliminated by Buford in the semifinals.
Five ballgames there against a very good lady team.
Other than Apple, this Butler team has been solid.
down on the other end.
Chris Daniels right here.
Here we go.
Go Lay it up.
Hit it right there.
Nice hedge.
And that ball screen by Columbia created that turnover.
Daniels puts it down his first two of the night points off the turnover back the other way in here.
great Look too by Jones, though he's got to stop doing that.
That was a great pass.
He's got to go up strong just dunking even though he got fouled.
Nice throw ahead by Key.
Daniels had time to size that one up back on the other end Washington shooting free throws really made a living at the line in that first half You got to make your free throws It's so imperative that you can make those from the line good Look at the senior.
Chris Washington is the guy we focused on up top here in the pre game tonight 11 points so far the second one on the way one of two on that trip he's got a dozen and it's a 3225 game going against his press.
You want to stretch it horizontally and vertically.
You want three available receivers and a long diagonal pass short right there on the shot by Allen and so I thought it coming right here.
Now this is what Butler can afford to happen to get into foul trouble early in the third quarter that's going to be two on Washington because the depth game is definitely going to favor Columbia.
Justin Thomas, six five junior at the line right here.
This is on the first minute be back in for Butler.
And also they're going to look at number ten.
Nathaniel Mason made a big three point shot for freshman in that first half.
There's Thomas's numbers tonight, six points, two rebounds there.
Again, David, layups, missed layups, missed free throws, like free money that you just don't want.
You got to cash those in man to man defense.
But the Eagles by the post up had a man keep Johnson open backside they didn't see him quickly down to the other end Sampson He's going to lay it out with the left hand and in first to the second half for Taj, he's got 17.
So just like that, it's a nine point game, a game that falls on your point guard.
Archie.
He's got to go back every time there's a shot.
I doubt that Butler's sending five to the glass.
He's reaching for three.
I mean, the point guards going back every time, whether he shoots it or not, you got to really you can't give up three points.
He's got to be on key three teams, three personals on how to kill.
Looks like he's been pretty quiet.
We focused on him in the pre game here tonight the steal one point off a free throw there in the first half and he'll be replaced on the line now by Jade MacLean of the six by five sophomore who will come in he will stay with the three fouls there you look at Johnson's numbers tonight three points and a rebound to go along with it.
The senior knocks it down 3427.
But I think the slow paced game is kind of hindered Key's performance here.
The fact that he's not able to get it go in the open floor.
Columbia, as you mentioned, 76 points a game this year.
They had to replace the 19 point average that they got from Jordan Bryson, France down on the floor.
Price transfer to SAP list after his senior year.
And so that was a big part of the offense last year at the state championship for Columbia.
But they found some other guys to step in and fill those roles.
Definitely in a scouting.
If you watch Sam's team play, if he's going to go right, he's all passed off the right size.
If he's going left, he's going to score that possession.
They kept him on basically on the right side of the floor.
Women at the free throw line.
These misses are starting to add up.
Once they start knocking these down, this is what comes back to haunt you.
Really.
What's keeping Butler in the game as well to their club.
He has missed the last two four at the line so it stays 3427 chance for the Bulldogs to get into the gap a little bit missed two of eight free throw shooting for Columbia those traveling to be called on Washington and back the other way.
It rushed out a little bit.
Just got to slow down time out of the floor with 450 left and quarter number three will step aside with a 3427 Columbia with lead I'm on Gp-B is made possible in part by supporters of the Georgia High School Association, including the following.
Just a reminder, kids who participate in high school activities tend to go a little farther than those who don't take part.

For further details, go to GHC dot TV once again, GHC dot TV.
What a partnership it's been with the Georgia High School Association of Georgia Public Broadcasting over the years, and DVDs, again, of the championship games are available 2 to 1 press now employed by Butler after the time out right here again, Columbia with the basketball inbound will swing it in right here to Thomas.
Is it back to Daniels chance?
The game will control it right here.
A little bit of backdoor pressure by Butler.
The Columbia quickly gets it across.
And on the other end of a big block right there by Washington, the turnaround right here by Thomas.
And he'll go to the line like Thomas has done a nice job for them all night on the glass there again, you got to take the ball, right?
The shot blocker says that looked like a little bit of a foul there.
And he was lucky he got away with that.
He's going to look at Thomas.
Any time you leave your feet, make contact More unlikely.
You're going to assess that penalty.
But a 21 Ronald Jones back into the game, Deontay Shavers stepped right back out there.
You can look at Thomas's numbers, seven points, but he's a two or two.
He's had a real nice, well-rounded game for the Eagles tonight, 32.
And that's Jamal Reed, the six seven junior back into the lineup for Coach McCreary.
You got a great chess match going here with Coach McCrary.
Coach Marty, due to the fact that they're going big against big inside the 3627 butler, if there's a trap in the corner, look middle there it is the skip the opposite low end too long Sampson teams back and running into the middle and left you go I'm going to call Kelly right here as a point of emphasis this year among the officials throughout the Georgia High School Association.
And we've seen a lot of carry calls throughout the regular season.
It's funny, I was going to have a sit in with some of the referees and they were saying if it's excessive, they're going to call that a crossover move right there.
But here, too, a little bit too much with the call on that.
One of the biggest things you can never see, the Jim Lance or the Sun fall away from the ball on.
Thomas, it's Columbia.
I think that's a55 wide.
You know it's not around 13 fouls to personals there on three team fouls apiece now for Columbia three for Butler see all that one take it away right there from Lambert back on the other end two on one champs adding it to take it by itself And the five foot nine champs indeed is all over it with his 19th point of the night here take away right there contact incidental.
But Daniels will get called for that one there again in that turnover Johnson, the point guard he's got to get back on defense.
We're in Tennessee.
In that case, that's going to be the first line of defense.
And you get a run back and make that stop at the top of the key and everybody else gets back in the hole closer to the goal.
So I'll see Stanford near their five nine, taking it up against Ronald Jones at six five.
He gave up some size there but still got the shot to go.
He steals absolutely three and a half to play here in this third period, 38, 27, 11 point lead for Columbia.
They really like to score in spurts.
They had a 16 run last night in the second quarter that helped propel them to a huge win over Eagles landing in the semifinals.
Well, that's indicative of teams that pressure pressure a lot.
They tend to score in bunches for football.
But what I'm going to be called here on a team Johnson another one to watch for the ball right there because Pittsfield and Prairie, 80 plus players assigned scholarships under his tutelage and the pleasure of working with him and coach Gregg men's basketball camp.
And he does an outstanding job.
Excellent teacher of the Game three of his four assistant coaches played for him, including his son Clint, the youngest to graduate of those three.
And it's really a family affair.
His wife, Constance of 27 years, is also the self-proclaimed water girl.
And here is some of the injuries over there.
So it's truly a family affair.
There's a long range three point shot now, an off the mark by Mason that Mrs. Richt.
Yeah, exactly.
It's like Sanford Richie help it out on the sidelines on a Saturday.
Well, Constance was there as well helping out this the Columbia basketball program.
In the piece, Betty Ford won 55 times best secondary go doing commercials and everything went off the mark right here physical underneath reaching right they're going to go against the Bulldogs now champs down is the point guard has to come below the post shoulder on that outlet pass it's more of an angle instead of a horizontal pass and we talked a lot about the halfcourt offense and Columbia gets Butler's transition game.
Butler still hanging in there with his ass for sure.
As you see Columbia, they start to slow it down here.
A little bit of that right now, but we're trying to come out, force them into some turnovers and the zone has had a lot to do with that.
That one off the start of Thomas and out of bounds by the force at the turnover there you look at the rebound takes you 2314 edge for Columbia and that's basically your ballgame because there's probably 4 to 6 eight points there that you can get off.
Second chances number 20.
Damian Goodwin in the game, the six seven junior for Columbia, he's a good shooter Washington Skip it takes it out of the double team Johnson pulls up takes a tough shot hits Wow Keith Johnson with a hand in his face Knocks that one down He's got six.
Every time that Butler scores, they're going to deploy.
They're two one press under 2 minutes here in this third quarter.
It's tightening up a little bit.
Columbia has put on the free throw.
You on the right side sends take it away jump off ball possession error in favor of the Eagles.
He had to keep James it he's on the right side that is Columbia is more at the pass from that side and then take it to the basket and score a pull up and shoot.
Talking about Columbia putting on the frequent flier miles, playing the tournament's Tennessee and West Virginia and Anchorage, Alaska.
How about that?
Columbia certainly put on the prophecy and a lot of high school teams see number 40 chance Clark back for Butler.
A lot of our high school teams that we featured over the course of this weekend have traveled to tournaments all over the country, getting a lot of national recognition.
But that's the fact that Georgia is such hotbed for basketball.
The talent is just unprecedented From all Reed with two more, he's got seven.
Columbia wins the gap to 11.
Here is 4029.
I think every team we've seen this week, it's played out of state at least once or twice.
But Columbia's defense is doing a nice job against Butler and extending them further from the basket.
So now that pass and practice that used to be 15 feet, 17, 18, which is messing up the floor, balance the spacing and the timing.
Deontay Shavers The six four Sanders I wanted this say last shot for Butler as he stepped in just a moment ago.
Tough shot right there.
I tell you what, nearly plus one for sharpshooting.
And we're going to take another look at the last basket right here.
You good strong move inside there by Reed for the bigs for Columbia have really come up strong today.
Reed and Thomas have played an outstanding game Taj this is on the first try to hit the 20 point plateau here tonight.
There's been kind of a quiet one.
Yeah he stormed down at 13 in the first quarter just had the one field goal there in the second quarter.
He's got four here so far.
And I'd have to say that the majority of his points are coming from the foul line down him just taking it to the basket.
So how about that 20 points chance and he'd had 17 last night at Columbia a team that hasn't been challenged much as we said a 9138 one round win against heritage Gattuso 6852 of the West Harlem in 6433 over Troup Round three of the big game last night, 7247 over Eagle's Landing.
They are being challenged tonight here by Butler, the Bulldogs hanging in there.
But you could see that Columbia's slowly starting to try to put some distance between themselves and the challenges here heading into the fourth quarter.
True, David, this is the second scoring drought that Butler is now experienced.
They had one in the first half and they've had one now late in the third quarter of the second half.
They've got to get points, take the ball to the basket, need to get fouled.
The score, but they certainly need two points right here before the end of this third quarter, establish some kind of momentum heading into the fourth and final period.
That three point shot by Menifee is off the mark, kicks it out, three point shot on the other end is off the mark.
It won't go for Allen kept alive though We'll kick it back out here.
Back for violation.
Look for the last shot of the quarter here and that's one thing you saw chance of right there, a sophomore, but very much knows the awareness at the time of the block and everything plays very mature and was a good job by Goodwin going up strong draw the foul nice guy again Sam Sudan definitely with the score going to the left Anthony is a very good penetrator taking a look at this sequence right here Columbia battling on the boards off the of this three point shot the good ones made two big plays on the offensive end on the boards here after the rebound good when they got hit just got to hit the free throws there and that's tough.
Hey Coach McCrary is going to shake his head when he looks at the tape of this game.
All missed free throws, his key air crash, The freshman who steps back in for Columbia.
Hey, feel with that Coach McCreery second.
One off the mark right here.
So the Bulldogs have a chance to go back within ten here, 2 seconds left, shot at the buzzer off the side of the backboard and no game.
5 minutes is still a ballgame, though, heading into the fourth and final quarter, 4129 Columbia leads it looking for their second straight state title.
We're back in a moment.
For the next generation of telescopes, a new quest begins.
Can we see the invisible go back further in time?

So and I can't believe we haven't done this before.
wow, look at that.
A bike crazy jingle.
Do they take like a good neighbor staple of his day?
Hey, guys.
Do it again.
Do it again like a good neighbor.
Step over there in my office.

I think we're good.

I'm only going to try meth once, and I'm not going to be like that guy.
Hey, look, I'm only going to smoke meth once.
I'm not going to be like that guy.
Look, I'm just going to shoot up just.
Just once, all right?
I'm not going to be like that guy.
I'm not going to be like that guy.
I'm all I'm going to do.
My hands.
I'm not going to end up like that guy.
4129 Columbia 4129 Columbia.
Heading into the fourth and final quarter, let's check in with our very own Mark Harmon.
Mark, what do you got for us?
Well, I was in the huddle there with coach Phil McCrary of Columbia.
He is not happy with the way his team is shooting free throws, turned to one of his assistants and said, what's our percentage?
What's our percentage?
And the assistant said, 35%.
And so Phil McCrary told his guys, 8 minutes to go in this ballgame.
We've got to hit our free throws, we've got to defend and we have to rebound.
Those are his orders with 8 minutes to go.
All right.
Thank you, Mark.
Yeah, 21, 29, four point ballgame right here.
They're certainly haven't won it yet by any means.
Butler is still within striking distance right here, Columbia, not necessarily in the type of game that they could just go ahead start, but in the sense that, no, not at all.
There's a lot of basketball to play.
Look for Butler to start extending their pressure with the defense Eagles just five of 14 free throw shooting in the ballgame.
But there's a big shot right there by Stefan Allen, His first field goal of the night.
Some of the guys that the crew was counting on, a big guy to quite as we've mentioned, our Jackie still held without a field goal in this ballgame just one point for the a player he focused on there in the pre game averaging 11.3 second leading scorer of the team behind champs a team who has 20 he certainly stepped up his game and now Justin Thomas who had 18 last night lead the way for Columbia will step back into the lineup.
Meanwhile Butler's road to the postseason, they beat Doherty in just a three point ballgame in round one.
He would have known from there this Butler team would keep on advancing.
They destroyed Peach County in round two here Turnover.
Butler's got to find another scorer.
As everyone knows, they're going to try to get the ball in Washington.
They got find it looked to get Jones involved down low three point shot right here is off the block where to go for Washington now on the floor right here and that will drive you nuts if you're coaching Coach McCreary, because right now the fouls are starting to creep up on Columbia.
One more that will put Butler in the bonus trouble.
Reid picking up the foul right there and the ball's the Bulldogs here.
And it'll be Dan Lambert, who had a couple of big games in this post-season round three led the way with 17 points in the 5447 win over Drew High School.
Lambert knocks down the first Washington.
We talked about him.
He's been so consistent throughout the postseason 18 in round two, as we said, 17 last night against Franklin County and Jones with a big ball game, Ronald Jones with 14 in that win that put Bulldogs here in this title game.
Never miss it off the second free throw 13 point ballgame at 4330.
It seem crazy for things to happen including that five boys game last night at five North country 15 that second half to win it is Butler now it's been out of that zone now their man to man extending the pressure Nice job by Johnson keeping a chance Mingo right inside of Reynolds in and out of there for Thomas Johnson back at work in the attack the other way it goes.
Don't put the ball on the floor, big fella.
Did it again, but he made it stick.
Yeah.
Washington with 14 like they got away with the one Butler crowd's got to this ball game right here.
Got to pick up the intensity a little bit.
Going to have a touch foul right here on Washington.
Who didn't like the call?
Well, I mean, you don't want to find that far out there.
And he's got good enough feet.
He can stay in front of him on the perimeter all day.
Now it's his can't make that he can't make that call that fall there.
Well, no team is a good speed.
48 point mark it's Columbia this year that just talks about their defense.
You can see Reid's numbers this you talk about their offense, but this is a very good defense.
A basketball team in the Columbia Eagles definitely in their offense, creates more defense.
And the guards that makes you get in that same frenetic pace that they like to play and you have taken bad shots.
Six of 15 free throw shoot tonight for Columbia that usually won't get it done as they're only up 11 right here, three points down on the other end off demand for Washington wouldn't go foul on the baseline there that was going to be falling it looks like, against Terry Thompson, 31, to go go to the line right here.
Now, would you win against Columbia if you're coach body for Butler you got to like this to now the clock to stop you've got to cash in on these free throws plus now you're sending the bigs of Columbia to the bench.
It's body on the sideline.
Thompson, a six foot junior, one in Columbia, is not hit.
There's either.
So if you put him at the line and you got to capitalize, absolutely.
Just on the front end, the right here and back the other way it goes, I will shoot free throws, it looks like, on the other end.
So in the bonus the rest of the way here in this 545 of this ballgame may very well come down to free throw shooting.
And that could haunt Columbia here with the way they've been shooting it tonight.
Well, you know, that's true.
But, you know, Butler's not, you know, setting any records, even though they're not they're absolutely right.
What a turnaround over this Bulldog program, a team that was held out of the postseason all together last year had four straight losing seasons.
And then here they are in the state championship game.
And Thomas misses look for LG to step up his game here with 546 to go for the Eagles.
He's got to get going.
He and Daniels been very quiet.
You know Thomas eight points seven rebounds knocks down the second one or two on that trip he's got 944 3212 point ballgame with 545 left.
And it's almost as if both teams are just kind of expected to go to the free throw line on each possession.
Haven't seen a lot of up and down game like we had in the first half.
But I guess that's just because of all the whistles and being in the bonus when Ronald Jones catches that ball in the middle, he's got to look inside down.
big long slam Justin Thomas with the block big defense there for Columbia near the five minute mark right here.
You take away the 20 points by chance and even it's a lot different ballgame in the points that the bigs for the have been able to rack up.
That's the difference in the game that one off the Mark Daniels kept it alive though and Columbia he reset up top Wow And this is a tough match up here for Johnson He is a figure that is just as fast ball holds the key with it the got it going to take it to the rack and gets the lay and how about that and on cue with what you said, fill out Jackie's first field goal of the ballgame.
It comes at the 440 mark for the fourth quarter.
He's got to get going that time.
If he's going to hit the ball with a smaller guy on him, he's going to take it to the basket all night.
A three point shot off iron for Menifee kept alive by Butler and Al Thomas.
It'll stay with the Bulldogs with 420 left, but all of a sudden trailing by 14 at a time out of the floor here.
Ball by Coach McCreary It's a 62nd timeout with 420 left in the ballgame.
4632 to score Columbia 4 minutes and 20 seconds away from repeating as state champion.
Of course, the Eagles trying to become a another team to win back to back and recap it all 11 title championships right here.
Of course, it all started yesterday, 20 hours of live TV.
It was the Atlanta Wolfpack winning the 2011 adapted sports wheelchair basketball championship over the West Georgia Wolverines.
And for a girls action, it was Fayette County, repeating with a ten point win over Forest Park, Miller Grove getting it done on the boys side of Foray with a 6759 win over Rockdale County and then on to five it was north crossover McEachern on the girls side and in the nightcap last night at the arena Gwinnett Center it was Norcross with a stunning victory over milk 59 to 55.
And then of course this morning the Wesleyan wolves continue their dominance in single-A with a win Pace Academy, its single-A girls action.
single-A boys, of course, followed that.
And it was Wilkinson County in a well-played game over Terrell County, 7568, double play Action saw a pair of Buford and GMC matchups as the Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Spartans.
And of course, earlier this evening it was the GCC Spartans boys over the Buford boys on the Double-A side.
Congratulations to all of our state champions right here.
First, Washington County, the lady Hawks defeating Dalton, Lady Cat amounts there in the triple AA girls game just prior to tip off in this one.
But through it has been a full weekend slam packed full of high school state championships right here live on GPB.
I like to keep this going.
It's been a lot of fun.
4632.
Still a good crowd on hand here hanging on for this last ball game.
It's still not over with yet.
High Chance nine does a nice job if he gets he's leaving.
He is so quick off the dribble guys with 20 points and a pull up a little jumper right there Knocks it down and tell you what that shot's been there all night long and he's got a great stopping by.
But if he gets his face across the shoulders, he's gone.
Here's Johnson.
Go ahead throw it downstairs to Mark Palmer with more on this one.
Mark, what do you got at the last time out?
Coach body told his team, Take it to the hoop.
This is a championship game.
Everything's on the line.
Let's take to the hoop, try to draw the fouls and make the three point play.
That's the strategy right now.
Well, absolutely.
You know, this is the title game, right?
You got to pick up the intensity, right?
We've been talking about that all night.
Living and dying by the jump shot is fine, but it's got to be off a few more passes to just one pass shot because the defense now doesn't have to rotate is having to work this offensive on Daniels line terribly.
That's his very personal so it'll be Butler basketball with just 324 and all of a sudden the clock becomes your enemy.
If you're the Bulldogs, you can't waste any time, you know, just just jack it up after one pass.
Take ball to the bucket to region champions going toe to toe against the Columbia Eagles out of the Cavs county out of Decatur, Georgia.
The region champs out of Region five.
Take it on the champs out of Region three out of the Augusta, Georgia.
The Butler Bulldogs on the other end right there.
Daniels trying to throw it down Washington, preventing him from doing that.
Well pick up the foul great pass by James it in and he kick it out of hand If there's a guy of the same culture with with you that's ahead of you get it ahead to him dribbling one pounce and kick it ahead and that is going to be five personals on Chris Washington will foul out of the ball game here the leading scorer for the Butler Bulldogs will finish the game with 14 points.
He did what he could a great effort here tonight by the six seven seed and he was surrounded you know left right up and down by the bigs from Columbia.
Well if Columbia's even close to 50%, the free throw line is probably not even a ballgame right now.
But it's been a struggle.
At the line is key.
Daniels numbers two points, five rebounds hits.
The second one, though, and it's 4932 as we hit the three minute mark of the contest.
Stay with us.
Trophy presentations immediately following the game here tonight as we officially put a cap on all of this weekend's action right here from the Baker Coliseum shot right there by Ronald Jones wouldn't go great.
He throws down on the other end it looks like now.
Nice rebound by Stefan Allen double bonus what Columbia shoot to the rest of the way to find Allen will be at the line Coach McCreary just 247 away from a fourth title in six years six in eight.
They want him in for a last year their first trip away, you see 32 from all three the six seven junior back of the lineup trying to make it back to back.
Only a handful of schools had a chance to do that coming into the week.
You know, there were six schools that actually had their boys and girls programs with a chance to win titles.
Norcross did it, of course, last night.
Jack and Buford both had a chance, but they split so or Cross will win better mythical title, if you will, from the weekend.
I guess Columbia's Girls were beaten in the semifinals, otherwise they might have a chance here.
Of course, they lost to Washington County, who of course, won the title just a little while ago.
So off Mark wouldn't go.
You got to finish when you're following it down as you take it in there, you got to score.
Columbia has built an 18 point lead right here.
Coach.
Toronto's quality has been an excellent job with this Butler team.
But when you look down the roster, they do have a lot of younger players.
Ronald Jones, of course, is a sophomore.
The starting lineup that will lose Chris Washington, a senior, but still very much a football team returning next year, it looks like.
And we may very well see a Butler team back here.
I agree he is a winner.
I really like the way he handles his business, but I step forward with his career as one of the nine.
How about that?
Two for two?
That's been a rarity tonight.
Exactly.
He's got a nice stroke.
Allen knocks him down for points for seven Allen and it's a 20 ball here with 225 left.
Thank you for staying on board with us right here at shot rims hit it out Sam Lambert on the foul one go knocked out of bounds It'll stay with Butler It's hard to stop the clock if he can't score he can score there.
He stopped the clock and he set up the defense and then try to get a quick stealing foul again.
You can play the free throw game, then play in some offense defense, foul your offensive player in Brooklyn and back in for Columbia.
When we talk about the keys up top here tonight.
Phil Hanson's keys to the game right there And for Columbia it was defensive transition, rebound tempo and offensive execution.
And I think he can check him off everything.
But free throw shooting really is pretty much been there for Columbia in a dogfight against a good bulldog team.
Definitely the kind of warm here.
I think the Bulldogs got a little impatient with their offensive start to take some quick shots and I think they're going to guard those shots any time within the offense.
Bypasses two ball reversals, but you got make the defense move if you just come down and make one pass.
They hadn't had to work it tonight.
You got to get the defense to run and that's where you going to get the breakdown at the line is between blocks down the point 35.
Chris Haughton, the six seven junior coming in the lineup for Columbia.
Also number 22 here, Cavs back in trouble, Reid also in as well.
Number 30 Javonte Davenport, the six two senior steps in 35 for Columbia.
Gordon is a very good young player and congratulations on the bench there.
Go out to those Columbia players from the coaching staff here.
As we mentioned, three of the four assistants on his Columbia team playing for coach.
Contrary to sound off the mark, 5 minutes he would go 40 straight wins against triple teams in Georgia.
That's amazing.
Dating back to the 2009 semifinals and of course, in the semifinals of Columbia following the South Atlanta, who had Derrick Favors the team that would eventually go on to win it 13 consecutive wins it looks like here tonight, the only losses against four teams this year, one in Texas.
And of course, Tucker in Miller broke by just two tells you really what kind of caliber team Columbia is.
That's a better inbound pass.
You never want to make a diagonal pass going across your lane because the defense man is going to have to step inside that and pick it off route with it.
Just put it back down right here.
Perhaps Travel with that clock a little bit more.
Columbia's length has definitely been the difference here and in the game tonight.
Liggins really had an adverse effect on the Butler shooters.
Yeah, three, three mark right there by Dan Lambert.
We'll pick up the foul a little bit too much contact.
I think the play and touch seems to be in the big leagues.
Reid and Thomas have just been the key to Columbia's lead here and maybe winning the championship first in this series.
You saw Constance over there, I think on the sideline with a hand in the water bottle over there to Sampson Dean there you look at Reid's numbers here tonight, seven points, ten rebounds.
This is on the second one champs today and again out of the lineup with 22 points here tonight.
The sophomore certainly his part is going to be one of those guys that, you know, it's 529.
He's probably going to grow a little bit as a youngster, but he's going to be fun to watch over the next couple of years.
It may very well be the next one of the next big stars to come out of the state, but one of many he is.
He's got a great feel for the game.
He's very savvy with the ball.
He knows who goes north and south, which I'd like for a guard to do this East and west stuff just drives you bananas.
But he can really go to the basket, so he could go into the basket.
Lambert taking it strong to the rack, earning a trip at the free throw line here with a minute.
Nine left.
That's it as well.
Hey, the team really ripping the nets from the striker today.
And we're going to look at some more Reed going out.
He'll be replaced in the lineup by Damian Goodwin and we may have seen the end of Reed the junior six seven junior still has another season left in him will go out with seven points here tonight Lambert connects one of two and his ability to shoot the ball at the elbow in the foul line really opened the score up in the second half, attacking the butler's own plan.
That will go down on the other end with Phil.
I've enjoyed that.
Tell you it's been a lot of fun to work with.
You been at it for a while here.
That's definitely reciprocated.
Yeah, it's been a lot of fun.
I know this is a GPB crew, one of what, a weekend.
It's been 20 plus live hours of programing and our crew has stayed in there for all of it because our camera folks have done a wonderful job.
All the folks in the truck, again, getting it done and brought to the angles all weekend and.
Tell you what, it just seems to get better and better every year.
It gets bigger, too.
I mean, the crowds and this the fan interest, it's GPB does a superb job at this tournament.
I want to encourage folks to donate, keep these games on the air.
We want to continue to to feature our deserving student athletes around the state of Georgia, which is kind of been a trendsetter.
We want to encourage folks to become a member, go to GPB dot org and become a member.
You know, a lot of other states don't do it.
We do, you know, and a lot a lot of the states are starting to take notice of what Georgia has done as far as their high school sports and some of the big venues and the the television coverage in general.
And we certainly need your support to continue to make that happen.
I know it's been put back right there by Lambert knocks down the field, always got eight here tonight as we go under a minute in this triple-A boys state championship game.
Another whistle on the floor right here.
Of course, a lot of fouls, both teams in the double bonus.
And these officials have done a good job all weekend, but especially in this game of really keeping things under control, they've made sure things haven't gotten too physical.
And both teams, of course, shoot a lot of free throws.
Definitely what I really like, though, I like how hard Butler's still playing.
Now, this Game has definitely been decided maybe for about a minute, but they have not let up a lick.
I mean, they're playing 94 feet side to side, 50 feet.
They're doing a great job that just epitomizes the coach boy out of the junior at the free throw line right here with a chance to record his name on the score.
But tonight he comes up empty from the free throw line.
44 seconds left, a little drive right there.
More now look at five one landers.
And they've had a great game here.
He enters double figures with that bucket and he continues to work down to the final whistle, which has been the basically the feed for this Butler Bulldog team this year.
We'll definitely see them again next year.
Five winding down here with 20 seconds left, both teams playing as if it were a tie ballgame with a minute to go low shot.
This is everything there but down to 15 right here.
Number 25, Greg Smith, the five time freshman, will step in for Jabari Menefee, who will go out for Columbia.
So other guys get to play in time here for Coach Bill McCreary, his team 2 seconds away from their fourth state title in six years, taken away by Jordan Anderson, the sophomore and a whistle and a foul with 5 seconds left on the clock, these two playing down to the final whistle.
That's what you like to see.
I do.
I like it when says, you know, let's end this, will it?
That's not their job.
Their got to play the game.
So there's no there's no other game after this one.
He's got to get here going up right now.
All smiles on the Columbia bench here tonight.
The guys can feel it.
It's a hard five ball game and it was in doubt, really, even heading into the fourth quarter, just a 12 point ballgame.
So it's not like the celebration got started early, that's for sure.
It was kind of a quiet celebration like, well, I guess this is it.
It's got an unfriendly rim on the free throws here tonight, really for both teams.
Jordan Anderson, proud of the court.
His name in the books.
It's not the first coach Rick Perry still not happy with his mystery throws.
And Anderson does make one, though, one of two on that trip.
Final seconds off the clock, 23 Jordan Tankersley unable to get that one up on time and that will do it.
The Columbia Eagles have won their second straight state championship.
They are the 2011 triple A boys title holders and the celebration is on at mid-court.
After a 56 to 37 victory over the Butler Bulldogs.
We'll take a timeout.
Be right back with the trophy presentation.
Smith Court here live at the Macon Coliseum when we return.
Great It's for the next generation of telescopes.
A new quest begins.

Joining us now, Coach Bill McCrary.
Coach, you weren't happy with your team at halftime, but they came through and played a great second half and won back to back state title.
Yeah, they did.
But I'd like to thank our supporter fans, the community and DeKalb County schools system for their wonderful support.
It goes beyond this journey.
Let's talk a little bit about this team.
They throw in three, just a great season all the way along.
Well, they put forth the hard work.
And if you put forth the hard work and you control the ball and they control the tempo of the game, good things to happen to.
And this is what happened to tonight.
The number four for you at Columbia.
Congratulate.
Thank you very much.
Right alongside now, Ty Shamsi Dean, excellent game over 20 points today.
Talk about what this means to you to win back to back state championship.
It means everything world to me.
We came in high school and I just wanted to win championships.
And Coach McCoy has put us a position to do that.
And we do that two straight years in a row.
It's to go for two more.
How much hard work do you guys put in?
Be True.
A lot of coaches put us through everything in practice and in the game.
They expect 100% and that's what we give is congratulate you.
Thank you.
All right.
Time now to send it back to Phil and Dave and wrap this up.
What a great day on GPB.
Great basketball all the way around.
All right.
Thank Mark.
Indeed.
