The following program is an exclusive presentation of good TV.
Georgia Public Television presents the Georgia High School Association State Basketball Championship.

It's the three eight Boys basketball State championship featuring Hunt County.
And he's tall.
And championship weekend rolls on here on Jiffy TV.
Nine down, one to go And this is it.
The three eight Boys State championship, the Bulldogs and the Vikings Bulldogs won state titles in 63 and 86.
The Vikings last won a championship in 2001.
The two guys to call it for you.
Q Great basketball players from well, way back when you play Ted and Herb White guys and we won't say what exactly way back when is.
I'm still quite technical along with Herb White.
Our pleasure to bring you the final final from here in Macon.
It is three boys championship basketball and it is kind of a surprise in that one team was supposed to be here.
Herb, the other team, maybe not.
Yeah, true Cinderella story in the Hart County.
Haven't been getting any respect coming into the tournament.
They sure earned it since they've been here.
The closest margin of victory they've had 17 points since they've been in this tournament.
And when you look at Hart County, you really start with one man and here he is, Chevalier Brown.
He's their point guard.
Six one average is 21.7 a game.
He's the assist man.
He's the one that makes this offense go.
And they're going to be looking for him to run the show as always.
On the other hand, it is a very, very young East Hall team that is led by a senior.
This is a mixture as we go down the starting lineups.
Now, this is a veteran group, as you see seniors in there mixed in with juniors.
That will not be the case when we look at the other side.
But some decent size, both these teams and these five starters love to run with the ball.
On the other hand, a guy by the name of Javon Randolph, he is a senior, he is the leader, as you can see some great numbers this year.
He is the man that they depend on when they need the ball in the right hands.
He's the guy that makes this team go.
When we look at this team, ten sophomores, two freshmen, very young.
Yeah, they are young and they've had some tough ballgames in this tournament.
All their games have been fairly close, five, six, seven points.
And so the number one team in there in the state and they're 30 and one.
So this is really going to be an interesting ballgame here.
All right.
Let's listen.
Let's go to the public address.
ANNOUNCER Listen to tonight.
Oh, by turning left in, what will be your home team?
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the main event.
Let's get ready to rumble.
Oh, you have your attention for the starting lineup.
First half down is at forward a six foot one senior number 25, Jay Brown at forward, a six foot one senior number five.
Demetrius Smart at center, a six foot three junior number 44, Jay Buxton at guard, a five foot nine center.
Number 13 man.
He'll guard a five foot eight center.
Number 24.
Ben drawn very in your heart.
County head coach Jim Burton.
And now for he's fighting at forward a six foot two sophomore number 22 Brody Lake's done at forward a six foot one.
Sophomore number 24.
Jamie Evans at center, a six foot two senior at number 54, Very telephone at guard, a five foot eight sophomore.
And number 12, Marquise Jackson at guard, a five foot ten senior.
At number 32, Javon Randolph and your East Call head coach staff finding we are ready for his triple state basketball championship.
We'll get ready to tip off after this broadcast of USA Basketball on TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners.
You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
Welcome back to the Boys three championship.
There'll be a lot going on behind the beaches and beyond to bring that all to you tonight.
We welcome John Nelson.
Millie.
Thank you, Sue.
With the two coaches, it's a lot of time.
You don't have a lot of time to cram for this final exam.
Will these two coaches know each other?
They've known each other for the past six years.
And remember, both of these schools used to be in the same region in Double-A.
One last thing to talk about where Hart County's concerned.
You may as well fill in h e r t County because this is a team that has a lot of balance in only one player that is averaging double figures and that is Savoy Brown.
Back to you.
And he is a major talent.
Thanks, John.
We'll be checking in with you all night.
Here we go.
Final, final excitement.
Great crowd here at the Macon Coliseum.
Herb has been here for just about all the games and seen some great talent out here.
He said as good as any of the years you've seen it.
Yeah, man.
Kind of sad to see the last game, but it's going to be a good one.
Talk about intangibles.
That's what Hart County's gotten.
You talk about talent.
You talk about he's tough.
Let's see who wins out as we jump it out for this year.
Final, final, the three AA boys championship.
And it is very easy early going.
That's pretty much done with the easy layup.
Both teams wore pressure up and the Bulldogs will try to get something going for their first possession.
Clark County went ten and three at basketball and come up with some huge surprising victors going to the hurry up with the layup no good and the rebounds controlled by the east call go long jumper three pointer dead center Kevin Curry finding the ranger another turnover we saw this in our last game but here we go again the way it is.
Good.
Come on Randolph, That's easy.
Look at all of a sudden it's seven to nothing before the Bulldogs have time to catch the ball.
You don't want to get behind the number one team real bad, real early, because this is the kind of team that can enjoy being out in front.
There's confidence, a major, major factor for maybe a Cinderella teams who's supposed to be here themselves.
Yeah, I think that's a good point still.
And there's nothing going Hart County's way right now.
You always hear about teams peaking at the right time.
And certainly that's true in the Hart County's case, seven losses on the season, but they really put it together here in the tournament.
But he's has been playing great all year.
Let's see that last basket.
There you go.
He's a good balance.
And here we go.
Coming back, lot of action.
Bulldogs control the rebound and start running, trying to get on the board, trying to break the ice.
Let's see.
We've got another call going against harder him.
As you mentioned, Steve, we saw that in the game with the Carter and Mitchell Baker Hart County probably playing at a speed a little more than they're used to playing at and they're turning the ball over.
And you just saw coach Seth Vining for a moment, 13 years, that was current job.
And I asked him before the game, Are you nervous?
And he said, Well, yeah, I always get nervous in finals and who wouldn't?
Hart County back with the ball inside, which is a good idea.
Go to the foul line.
Tied up, Up.
No good up again.
No good.
Hard.
Johnny needs to break the ice, get something on the scoreboard that always helps.
So Jake Jackson will go to the line.
And if you look at his head, he's big.
He's could be a football player.
Well, guess what?
He is a football player.
A very good one, too.
Only a junior.
But what I understand, Division one player being recruited by just about everyone and he's going to be a big time football player and looks pretty good from a lot as he hits the first second runs off and he's top back in control offensively running like they like to do.
And already you see some athleticism on this East Hall team side.
Barry Ellis him going to the line big time rebound there by Ellison up around the hoop took it down with two hands through the foul up and good one great crowd control We just had no exception Yeah I'm sure coach Ryan told his team hey this is a Cinderella team man.
You know, nobody's expecting it.
Go out and play hard.
Show him what we are right from the start.
And that's what they're trying to establish.
Some dominance right from the get go.
He's tall with that good full court pressure.
Bulldogs and hard.
Try down the toilet, go to the hoop and get something.
And that time no offensive foul.
Look at the blocking foul.
A young team free fall.
So they're thinking naturally about trying to stop the Bulldogs and get that baseline.
But they've got a lot of talent coming back and coach running was saying, you know I don't know how some of these young guys are going to react early.
You shall see.
That's why some of my seniors really have to come up big in this game.
Well, you think about what he's tall, could have had a felony in that cause he's one of the better players in Georgia transferred from.
He's tall a couple of years ago.
He's a senior now.
And boy, if they had him on their team, look at our counter, try to go inside that big guy, Dan Jackson, he has doesn't have anything going.
Sometimes it's like a boxing match.
Throw the first pass, take the first hit, get on the board, show me what you got.
Then we can relax a little.
And a lot of folks stayed around to watch this ballgame.
Good crowds all through the weekend in Atlanta and in Macon.
People turn out to see this great high school basketball.
And we've had some great games through.
I mean, really the game we did with Mitchell Baker Indicator, the largest margin of defeat in any game, and that was came a close game towards the end.
Very exciting hard trying to inbound looking underneath but then going forcing it around try to go inside out try one more time.
There's that guy.
He's strong inside and maybe it's a side for Jackson, but he'll get some easy hits.
But look at this right back at you.
He fell to working at around top of the key up No good rebound bulldogs all over maybe a little out of the realm but he's got to stop and go know up for the rebound Bulldogs to pull off an easy lineup up very nicely done Savoy Brown they've got a couple of guys he's got some strength and the Savoy Brown and you can already get the feel for the tempo of this game up down.
No one cares about slowing it down both They're going to pressure it.
Both are going to come at you offensively.
Herbie here you can see inside the work of Tobias just getting it up.
Good hops, gets it with that left hand and puts it in He's hall trying to trigger and try to find something underneath there tough little shot follow in the shot Andre Towns that's the little guy Marquette Jackson is only five he's a sophomore Nicely done Quick hops though and comes back, gets a steal.
Not sure they're going to get it to all right us in one part.
One of the fire just underway.
Glad you're with us.
For the State triple-A Boys championship.
The last game we'll be bringing you all a bit exciting, as Herb has mentioned, looking at all of the young players we've seen this year in the playoffs, in the championship, we're going to have some great games for years to come.
A lot of young talent.
Nice still there.
He's tall with a quick hands.
Marquez Jackson Briggs at the top court looking for something inside there some very very quickly not to be three pointer up three pointer no good Danny Evans just a little off another sophomore we'll be saying sophomores and juniors, a lot bulldogs heart counting trying to for good shot inside on the three wasn't their target for Dell took the three little short and so far what we expected fast pace 11 to 5 he's call up early hard Danny tried a little pressure though and pretty much token to drop him back and drop back into the zone again both teams having their man to man up to nice thanks Nicely done.
Kendrick Coleman.
He's a sophomore He's six three.
Good pressure.
Mark brings it in.
There's a turnover man and we seen a lot of those tonight both games from corner.
Nicely done to Randolph Barton.
Finally a senior gets a hoop coach Burks thinking about a timeout.
Don't want this team to get out in front of you by more than ten, that's for sure, because they're going to keep going well I think it was layup goes in we might have a timeout easy hoop by Jordan Randolph there's the timeout What a run early going 356 355 left in the first quarter and he falls under control 18 to 5 and really hard downI was watching the Mitchell Baker dictator game here you see another steal and another layup and it's virtually the same blueprint we saw in the early game.
And once again, easy layups.
And as you saw in that first game, the turnovers lead to whoops.
Let me remind you, we hope you're enjoying this broadcast of the USA class Triple H State championship.
You can show your appreciation and you can show your support by becoming a member of tbe.
It's easy and it's totally secure.
Log on to our website that's at WW dot gpb dot org.
Thank you for supporting high school sports right here on TV 18 to 5 355 left in the first quarter as we come to you from Macon Coliseum stoop by Tenneco along with Herb white.
Our pleasure to bring you the triple-A championship the last game of all the championships Clark County has got to get something going.
And how did they do it Chris Passing and playing smart.
He's tall currently on a nine run.
Budoff Brown Good work, but a great defensive play.
They are aggressive, they have quick hands.
He's tall with another turnover and they're just running and looking for the open man and looking for the open.
Three little razzle dazzle Harlem Globetrotters inside.
They good folks, they got a man open, didn't see him.
Bulldogs need to get something get to the foul line right now you feel like they're pushing it and just a little testy relax a little playing not at the pace there accustomed to.
I would bet Coach Carter like to see him slow down a little bit.
You want to you want to force that press a little bit, but you don't want to overplay.
And, you know, again, we talk about it.
You hear about the press and you work on it in practice.
But when you get out against the team, like East Harlem, here you go.
It's a great defensive play, aggressive on every shot.
Just you're playing in a state championship game, which adds a little pressure to and helps out with that press conference.
And by the way, for the Bulldogs back and forth we go.
He's tall, as we mentioned, number one, the state looking inside a beautiful pass not to be blocked out of their ad to try to go the other way.
Well, that's insult Andre You miss the dunk.
Try to go back up with it and the guy throws it.
In the first row of seats.
Denver Coleman tries to take a shot up, is only a sophomore, but just didn't take it up strong enough.
And a nice, nice defensive play actually by the rim.
Let me ask you this.
Are you of a theory that teams that like to press don't like being pressed?
Not really, but there we go that so both teams probably feel good turnovers.
Look at that Hart County eight turnovers in the first quarter very similar to what we saw when he came to Mitchell Baker game And boy, that's just going to kill you against a good team.
He's tall controlling the ball up, just a little runner and it is good Martez Jackson a little father example off to a very good start.
Boy, is he coming up quickly on the double teams.
Just take them in and go for the ball.
Very important to get your spacing together between your players when you're playing against a team that's going to put pressure on you.
Every part of the game.
Bulldogs having problems from the field trying to get that help, try to get to the hoop and it is tough and that will help throughout the prayer and it was answered and that is going to help.
And you can get good shots against a team that likes to double team.
It likes to put pressure if you're smart, here you go.
Jabari Brown, a very fine player, averaging almost 22 points a game.
So he's put in a lot of love.
He's lucky shots this season.
You've got to be in a position if you see another guy in double play, you've got to get the position to shoot the ball, be ready to shoot.
It looks awkward any time left handed player takes it a shot.
Anyway, so 28 to 11 left in the first quarter.
These are in control as they have been most of the way, working it around the perimeter, trying to look inside and find it and showing some patience on this possession.
Clark County matching up man to man.
That's the heart of the game inside an open jumper, top of the key rattles it in this right hand play six three just with Yep he got it Underclassman a sophomore and you're right the bulldogs not really spreading the court on that press Nice move today Brown again taking it all the way still he's also also this take it right up Blake on the break and there they go right off the basket of course Jackson very, very quick, quick, quick lay person.
Continuous pressure, nice little tricky dribble there.
But it leads to another turnover again, trying to force it in between two defenders probably been better going to the baseline had a man open for the jump shot 2410 he saw top rank and triple play in control so far couple of substitutions in for part county coach right and you saw a couple of seconds go 13 years 301 wins 63 losses it's not bad there's the dribble then that no look pass and sometimes you got to know who you're passing two of.
They've got to be ready this fall.
Breaking the pressure nicely and slowing it down and looking for a good shot.
That is a quadruple team from long range this second down.
Thank you very much.
Well, they've had a couple rattling and as one near the opposing coach that just kills you Jimmy Adams like the rim on that one has a nice pull up jumper under control Derek Carr for so we're going back and forth and high scoring so far I like this kind of basketball to see the rim and put it in first play for the easy hoop on the rebound 20 seconds and already the referees I think need a break up and down to gone crosscourt dangerous pass and brown to the hoop and he'll go to the foul line Well they're all dangerous passes against this ball ballclub I guarantee you they're just like Mitchell Baker they're not going to give you anything they think they can intercept or pressure every pass, every dribble.
And hey, how about Jim Donato?
Tell us about his high school career, huh?
Come on.
The state championship.
What a team.
Well, he was loaded, I think.
Six, ten, six, nine, six, nine across the front line.
And he played in New York.
He could have beaten the Knicks.
All he had to do was bring it up and throw it up.
Right.
I think he helped his teammates set some records on rebounds over his big shots.
But yeah, playing with Jeff, one of the great rabbits shoot another no good, but Bulldogs control the rebound and bring it back up.
Try to set it up and get another cardinal sin pass and while you're in the air leads to a turnover doesn't lead to a basket.
No, it doesn't.
But what a wild and wooly first quarter we have had in the boys triple-A state championship game as our cameraman was knocked down.
And I hope he's okay.
Wayne drew the charge.
Steve is going to go to the line for a one on one.
Now, you say you want to get into journalism and maybe you want to be a cameraman on the sidelines.
Well, here's how it looks when someone's coming right at you.
You keep on the shot.
You're keeping the shot.
Got him in focus.
Well, he's really in focus.
Hey, All right.
So it's 28, 13, first quarter triple AA, boys, high school basketball.
Wait a second up, buddy.
We're You're watching TV bringing you the best.
You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
So what in the world do you do if you're in a state championship and you're down by 15 at the end of the first quarter?
Let's ask Jon Nelson to spend some time listening to Jim Burch.
Jim Burch basically said right now that he's called once it more than we do and we've got to get after it.
On the offensive and defensive end he's talk we're used to seeing 12 players in a 90 plus point style.
We've already seen 11 in the first quarter and they're on pace for 112.
Back to you.
And seven of those players have scored already.
Three.
He's tall.
Well, the only thing they left out is special teams.
You got to get on an offensive difference in their special teams up with the only other place.
Let's see if they can pick it up.
Park can control it.
Start the second quarter of the tunnel.
Indeed it is.
And you're right.
You can practice against the press with your practices and just your own guys, and you probably don't have five or six guys as quick as this East Harlem team.
So you've got to get used to that quickness and hopefully you do in the second quarter.
Just call and control the ball.
And so far the game.
Wow, 11 to 1 in turnovers to the hoop.
Could have been a foul Put something over here but no and Hart County tries to continue it There's another one to add to that turnover trouble again trying to force the play between players you saw looking inside moving well moving well without the ball shot is up no good.
Of course, Johnson Johnson had a great first quarter tied up playing referee says a foul.
So what we've got, by the way, the possession arrow in the direction of Hart County.
So it's a jump ball they'll have possession.
Hart down he's been able to do a little damage in the paint early on.
But again, they need to come and set up an offense because they're not going to be able to run with this.
He's Hall of Fame.
It's already evident that they just can't do that.
They just have to set up their offense, try to pound it inside, get good shots, bulldogs trying to bring it down again under relentless pressure and they do it now.
Let's see if they can slow it down and get the good shot or we have another turnover.
That's a great defense.
That is great defense.
Looking for the outside shot, long outside set fall in the way.
That's not the one Senator Corker really wanted to take it back.
We go the other way.
Everything contested, every shot.
He's tall, he's tall, looking up jumpers up to no good.
Randall Langston.
Looks like he had a good look.
It knocks.
It is still the pressure, still looking inside.
There's a foul, very elusive.
It's over the foul line, but relentless, just relentless action on the part of his half, day after day effort to eventually get a good shot.
And as we in our double eight game at his triple-A game, not only is he's tall, pressing and getting the turnover up the points they're getting off those turnovers, sometimes you'll have a team and they won't capitalize.
But he's tall has so far, you know.
Sure.
I don't know how long it's been 15 years ago.
They used to have a Winters tournament in Georgia after they played the state championships.
Each team that won their classification, they would have a tournament for all four winners and they would play it there.
Some interesting matchups this East Harlem playing against Mr. Baker and some of the teams I saw last night.
Of course, they don't do that any more of that stuff.
Well, wait a minute.
This guy's the entrepreneur that you are and the bucks you have in your career.
Could you yourself have GP2 to put that on?
I could buy a ticket to it with the Bucks.
I say there's no offensive fallibility.
There's a requisite.
However, we'll find out now.
Yeah, it was sure.
Was that be a great idea?
Well, all we need is some corporation to step forward.
Say, Hey, it's been a lot of fun because really year after year there are always teams in the lower classifications that can compete against the big guys.
It's just the Hoosiers type of thing, as you saw in that great movie.
I mean, some of these guys play together in these small towns from the time they're in the seventh and eighth grade, and they're just really great teams.
Our county having trouble inbounding the ball.
So they call a time In your how many years have you been doing?
Cause I want to ask you a question.
And in all your years of doing this, the best individual player you've seen in the best team, you've seen, We'll talk about that when we come back.
Boys, Triple A championship basketball.
I thought I thought we were going to a break for a second.
We could just pass for 5 seconds, but then it's a break.
I think in all the years I've been doing this, I think Deon Glover to me was the most impressive player I saw in the high school top down here when he was a senior, and I just thought he was a man among boys at that time.
That best team.
Wow.
I'll have to think about that one.
All right.
We'll ask you about the fourth quarter time enough.
Sure.
Some part to try to embattled again, 29, 13, 619 left and his boys triple A championship ball game.
And Hart tried to bring it across halfcourt.
Look at that.
Was it over and back That's it.
That's just mistakes that you wouldn't normally make in any game during the season, but you just get so flustered by a team.
It's just relentless pressure, like he's tall and you just make mistakes that you don't normally make.
What a team is, that's sort of a Cinderella season When they get to the finals and get down a little.
Do they think, Yeah, maybe psychological.
That was we had our run.
Well, it's the very critical next few minutes to get 16 point difference right now and Haqqanis really got to try to get back in his game in the next three or 4 minutes and cut down on the turnovers they have up and foul.
You got to take care of your defensive backboard.
That's the first play You get back in the ballgame.
You can't give those second shots and he's tall.
Very quick.
Watch Tracy Lipscomb, get inside.
Great position, good body control very strong and hits fouled and he'll get to you got a team like this but quickly for you got to box out now how much size difference actually the two things that he's tall since his advantage so far on the ball just a little quicker a little more confident and the pressure's is a huge difference.
3213 And as we saw in the first game that we did tonight, the game you will get a chance to make a run.
You just got to do a defensive end and cut down on those turnovers.
Two offensive rebounds on this possession by you tall He's tall looking around looking for that three pointer and it is good and it was done very nicely and Tracy let's give went to the foul out of miss said I'm going to make sure the three pointer that'll help Kendrick Harper with the little jumper 3315 But soon as you hit a shot please talk right right back out.
You and Jason Randolph can really handle the run.
Right to the hook.
Nice.
The guard.
Just get to roll.
Bulldogs trying to look for a break and they will miss the demand.
They look to not have this boy outside.
One, three.
And it is good.
That's big for hard candy right there.
Kendrick Curry with a nice three pointer and all of a sudden he got a little run across Watson trying to build it, as we said, try to build towards that half and cut down the lead couple buckets at a time.
Now where you turn up the day, if you can do it, you got to really try to turn it up on the next several possessions.
Good block Good.
Get a good shot every time.
Now, so bulldogs are coming back down, taking the time.
Try not to turn it over, looking inside out west.
Good.
Five left in the second quarter.
This boy is a high school basketball action from here in Macon.
Brown with the ball up high, looking down low, nothing going so far.
This is the most patients that the Bulldogs have shown on offense.
Let's see if it works with the turnaround.
Airball Brown With the new guidance knocked out of bounds and a remain hard shot, his ball several substitutions for both teams.
The thing is to win you at least if you hold on to the ball, he's not scoring.
So you want to take your time on each possession and look for a good shot.
That's all you can hope for is a good shot.
And if you take a good shot, chances are you got a better shot.
An offensive rebound too, which is which part Danny just got right there.
Brown inside, no foul, no harm.
The great turnover back and forth.
We go ahead and when it's all said and done hard county get possession you do have a heck of a time to win a game on the radio at this pace to try to keep up with who all touch that ball.
Well that's why we thank goodness for for radio and MTV because on radio they don't know We're not saying so we're just telling bulldogs inside try to go inside.
And that seems to be where they're trying to go right now, trying to get those layups to the two big guys.
Yeah, I think that's where they're going to have to try to get back in.
This ball game is playing hard to control and trying to go to their strength, which is closer to the basket fashion.
Oh, Brown boy.
They just get their hands on everything that came off as a Heart county player right there.
And now we have fierce pressure, full court pressure, which I think this these whole team might like to see because they've got so much quickness and guys that can handle the ball like that young man right there, Jackson in and the other way.
So Marquez a little out of control on that one good position here.
And again, as we say that that's a big football player to this one football player going down.
So you get the feeling it oh, a little close, but the initial contact, I think he was able to take it on the offensive side.
And that's a good way to break the press right there.
Get it to your big guy in the middle of the court.
Nicely done, Patrick.
First down for Dell right now was only junior.
The big guys get its attention just like to take it the whole way long.
Three points.
Rondo Good.
And here we go with 327 bulldogs making a little bit of a run if they don't turn it over to the hoop nuggets back the other way.
We go back to credit to 11 then that would have been big for Hart here and that's a killer.
Jamie Evans, the sophomore is only six one but he can shoot it and you're right that's a five point possession You missed the two.
You come back and give up the three and it's all it's a 15 point game before you can break your eye.
Brown outside Portland just a little more comfortable closer to the hoop and that's where he's going again.
Haqqani would love to get this thing down around nine or ten points.
If they do it for four and a half, it's going to be a challenge.
Crabbe Nice pass inside and one.
So sometimes it's the little guy, Winston Rucker hung in the air very nicely there.
Did the Dixie Doodle got the shot going to go to the line now to try to convert the three?
Here you go.
Nice pass by.
Chevalier Well, a little hesitation.
Very nice.
And those are the kind of things that bring it back in a game, especially as you go and get closer to halftime where you can build on some momentum and say, Hey, guys, we were down by 15.
We're only down by whatever it is.
They sound like, Hey, we can't play with these guys if we start playing our game.
And the coach will say, Guys, we have so many turnovers.
If we didn't have half these or maybe if we had three quarters of them, which we'd be right in this ballgame right?
244 3522 with a chance to cut it by another point about today's least tough brings it out.
But that's a young man who can handle the ball.
Jovan handoff.
That was beautiful.
You talk about hard candy building on something to go in at halftime.
It works both ways.
Brown tried to do something with it, Can't shoot it back up.
Jumper just felt good.
It was controlled by his hall.
Tough call there.
He got bumped, but there was a walk.
Coach writing said, Come on down.
My guy got to go watch his moves too.
Oh, that's nice.
I think that was in slow motion.
That looks like his quick in slow motion.
It looks like a young herb light.
Yeah, right.
Very young herb white Bulldogs with the ball.
Try to find something.
There's those hands again.
Jackson, the football player, went up like a tight end to try to grab it, but apparently he went over there.
You see it and it's a tough call.
He had his hand on the ball actually before he came down and he's tall player and it's tough to say this hurt even though we're in the second quarter.
But to me, this last 2 minutes, so huge for the way Clark County can play.
Don't get to let them lead any try to keep it at least here and don't let that happen.
We have a five or six point run and go down by 20 inside out.
Clark County working the ball around.
Not hard to see why they're ranked the number one team in the league division in this state.
They usually have a lot of balance, both teams predominantly in a man to man.
The first two quarters.
He's tall, taking their time, looking for the good shot.
The three pointer is good and that is a dagger.
Seven Randolph hits the three.
Oh, we haven't seen his hall's half court offense but more.
We saw it there.
They ran it.
Well, another turnover.
And as I mentioned, it looks like another run for two.
Let's see what they can get.
Nothing right there.
And the Bulldogs turn it over.
Coach Burks pleading for the foul, but the officials aren't going to call these little fouls now.
They've established how this game is going to be called and you got to learn to play with it.
Coach Birch was with this team in 1996 when they were last in the finals.
Look at those turnovers.
That story of the game is an assistant coach, that head coach now three pointer is up and off the mark with 107 Bulldogs need to really slow it down, try to get something going whenever they do, don't turn it over for an easy hoop.
Look at that pressure.
Oh, they just get their hands on everything, Stu.
I mean, it's just almost exactly like Mitchell Baker.
I keep saying that, but it's.
It's almost like the same team.
They are mirror images.
But you know what?
If we had those two teams play, I think it would be 142 to 136.
It be entertaining, that's for sure 4022 with 51 seconds left.
He's tall trying to add to that big lead with 44 seconds in there thinking we can get at least three or four more shots.
Taking a little patience now, trying to avoid the double teams up front.
There's a lot of action and bodies flying down low.
It's going to get a push.
Yeah, that's a great call.
Good hustle, Haqqani.
He's got more assists for his haul than they do jazz.
Carter Good hustle there And with 30 seconds and I know you're down by 18 but well again we saw the Carter down huge bounce in that other game but again he's tall is going to keep playing this ball game right And if Hart County can hit some shots, start taking care of the basketball.
If they can get back in this game.
We saw it happen.
I we hate to refer to that last game if you missed it, but it was the mirror image of this one.
And they came back because it took better care of that ball.
They've got to turn up the defense and cut down on the turnovers, which shouldn't be too hard sticking it up.
Second one off the rim and control by you saw it come up with every loose ball Unbelievable Quick see if we're going to 118 seconds left And this is the man I want with the ball.
Find he's tall.
Give the ball, Randolph.
If he doesn't score, he's going to be soft.
Catch the ball.
Let's see what happens.
A little step, this three pointer and it looks long and almost off the bench.
Where at the buzzer.
No good.
So entertaining, fast paced as we thought but it's all about turnovers got hurt.
Yes, it is.
And that's something you can correct.
Hopefully.
Interesting game right now at halftime, it's 48 to 23.
He saw the number one team, the triple play basketball up.
Let's go courtside and find out what the coaches second thanks to here with divining you I mean you weren't going to you were not going to make any surprises at all.
Sorry I said finding it with you were going make any surprises at all.
You're going to press them out of the building and you're going to just keep running back and forth on the floor and you're getting it your way.
So far, we've had a good half.
You know, we're real plays.
First quarter, I thought we were really, really aggressive.
We did a lot of good things.
Second quarter, we still had a good quarter.
I just hope we can maintain it for two more now with the way things have been going, they came back with some pressure defense also almost like the Liberty County game where they came back and pressed you back as you were pressing them.
Is that what you were anticipating or what were you anticipating defensively?
Oh, I'm sure, you know, Coach Burke is going to do all he needs to do to try to get back in this game.
We just got to respond and take care of business and do what we do well, that even the Vikings with bindings, we're up 17.
Thanks for your time, Stu.
Back to you and Herb for the halftime stuff.
you're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Macon Coliseum.
Halftime of the Boys triple-A Championship game.
He's tall, leads it 40 to 23 over Clark County.
Welcome back, everybody.
Jim to Tokyo championship weekend one half to go out of ten ballgames.
Hope you've enjoyed championship weekend right here on TV.
Hey, one more trip to the principal's office.
And who better to make that trip?
The John Nelson.
Johnny Gwynn.
You know, you drop that reference once again to me getting perpetually in trouble.
Principal's 19 and 20.
Principal Wood from Howard County.
Bet you couldn't tell because of the orange.
Dr. Sloan from East.
All that you couldn't tell because of the bindings.
Vikings.
Let's start over here in HARDBALL.
Principal What?
Let me ask, what's it been like for the town of Hartwell for this entire run for the basketball team?
It's exciting at the town of Hart County, of Hart County.
We have many people here.
We had busses to come.
We have people staying overnight and it's brought a great deal of Hart County money down here to Macomb.
Now, let me ask, is it one of those situations, where is it the last person in Hart Well, turns out the lights and comes down here to make in for this whole weekend.
Is that how it is?
HART Well, the kind of town that wraps itself around the basketball team, from what I can see, it figures.
HART Rolling Haqqani not only wrapped itself around the basketball team, they also do that with the football and all the other sports that we have.
They are a athletic town and they support a high school in our teams, which I'm very proud of that.
Come back to you just a sec.
Dr. Sloan's findings, Vikings.
Let's find out a little bit about what's going on in Gainesville.
We saw Gainesville Hill earlier talk about what life is like been with these hall with this run.
Well, we're just really thrilled to be here tonight.
It's our third time in the last four years to be in the final game and our kids really excited well enough to know we wanted to state two years ago and only one kid is on his team was on that team.
So we've rebuilt the whole team and them coming back to the fold.
That's a credit to our coach.
He does such a great job and we're just all thrilled with the we have ten sophomores out here and that's real hard to believe that we have such a young team who made the finals and in Hall County is one of the most quickly growing counties in the state of Georgia.
What's it been like for you as a principal to try and keep things together, both academically and athletically there at East?
All Well, we haven't grown as much as some of the other schools.
We're in more of a rural area than the other schools.
We open up two new high schools this year and Hall County.
So we went from four in our system to six in one year.
And then you had Gainesville, which is a city system.
So we have seven high schools right close together and it makes for exciting time for all of us because we're so close together now.
And that's going to do it with both of these principals, with Hard County and with East Hall principals, 19 principals, 20 principal, always in trouble.
Back to you, too, Jim.
You bet you are.
Thank you, Johnny.
Well, I got one more question for Stuart.
Herb, since this is the last game of the day, I know you guys were great basketball players.
If you guys were to play one on one, who'd win Right now?
Neither one of us.
Neither one of us.
I don't think we can get out of these chairs.
Somebody would have put you know, it's amazing what you played so long ago.
They call you great.
Who knows?
They haven't seen you play.
Let's go to some highlights.
In the first half.
Is hall scoring herb in a variety of ways.
Yeah.
Again, they've hit the three point shot.
They've hit shots off of steals.
They've had great individual moves off the break.
You see a strong inside move Arcadia, a team that is used to playing that quick style of basketball.
Is it that much tougher for them, obviously, to try to slow down, just to maybe take it down a gear?
Well, they have no choice.
I mean, they have no choice.
They're going to have to slow down and try to control the tempo.
And when they've done that and they've gotten the ball in close, they've had some success.
But you can't I don't know what the final turnover was, but it was 18 right towards the close of the half.
And here you see a nice little move under control and that's the key for Harden County.
Hey, under control shot.
And we see it so many times that it it's it's so true in a game like this when they come out Herbert you're down by 17 those first few minutes of the third quarter.
You cannot let the season fall to get any kind of a run.
And here you look at the field goal percentage in again, 40 shots up by five.
He's tall and of course they're not shooting a good percentage, but you don't have to when you're getting that many more shots for three point field goals are shooting very well.
40% Mark County, only 1 to 5 rebounds for about even, believe it or not.
But look at the turnovers in the course.
That is the story of the game.
All right.
So it's 42, 23, Boise State, a high school basketball championship.
We're coming right back with the second half in a moment.
Broadcast of USA Basketball on TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners.
You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV back here at the Macon Coliseum with head coach Jim Burch of our county.
Let me ask you, is it going to be as simple as a deliberate offense and a pressure defense to get you back in this ball game?
Well, I don't know if I may deliver it.
Been 17 or 18 points down.
I mean, you know, we just got to handle the pressure.
I mean, their pressure was so intense, we never really got in there.
Obviously frustrated a little bit there.
We got to handle that a little bit better.
And we can't get so many open looks.
I mean, they had too many transition baskets.
We got lost many times on defense.
And, you know, we got to defend 28 points, like I said, too many and get a little bit better organized once we get in a half court in our offense and good luck coach in the second half and then a 60 Minutes.
Thanks for your time.
Back to the power forward, Stuart.
Herb Thank you, John.
Let's see what happens in these first few minutes of this third quarter.
A pretty simple formula.
Play defense and take care of the ball.
He's more in control of the ball.
Start the second half, third quarter, walking around almost like a weed outside, of course, equals empty square.
It's a pretty simple formula too, and I have been able to pull that one off.
Well, there's two points.
With Brown doing a good job, Harper had three play a couple players with three, and then the points winners, it doesn't really matter.
They coming from a lot of directions for this East Hall team.
Well, there's your first good defensive stand by the Bulldogs.
Go see if they can capitalize on the other way.
And it really wasn't so much bad defense when they were there.
Set offense.
It was when Heath Hall was getting his transition baskets off the turnovers.
He's tough and they're man to man.
Good pressure, man to man bulldogs working out on the outside and there's an almost turnover with there's not a stat for that first jump ball possession hero that'll remain with the Bulldogs right here Brown calling for that ball down low he wants it and tosses Verdell had to block at the other end earlier Nice block dangerous pass in bounds maybe that's what Hart needs is someone to take over underneath but it's not going to happen when you're making killer passes.
There's a nice pass by Brown to the big guy and it'll roll and Hart draws first blood and that's definitely important for them in this half.
Let's see what they come up with.
A little pressure.
Jackson With that little football player, there's five football player and pretty good basketball player.
He's tall, working around, showing some patience, bringing it back outside.
And the game has slowed down to ten.
A hard counting was showing a21 to halfcourt trap and they dropped back man to man just all the time with the flow.
And there's the exciting players in the first half.
Nicely done by Jamal Randolph.
He's just putting on a show.
He has really got an explosive first step to get himself open for the jumper.
Good hands again, almost a turnover again, almost a him again.
But the ball arrives at the three point line, doesn't go but he's tall, really gets that rebound out and they want to run.
What was the last time you saw Polman go through?
For a long time.
Same time you saw it three second long time.
You know, the last time I saw it actually was in a pro game at the Hawks game.
You know, is this season, as I remember.
Here's the last to take it nice move up and in again explosive step just to get him free get some distance from the defender and then the quick pop.
Nothing new for Javon.
He averages 20 points a game.
So you're seeing what he does.
He's got 14 already on his ball game.
Now there's another turnover and this could lead to a basket because it's a two on one break back and forth they go.
And now he's obviously careless with the ball as we start the third quarter Brown with the ball on what a bad place to to get double teamed in that corner Little out of control and he's taking control 40 to 25 three boys basketball championships Duke High tech along with Herbalife bringing you all the action from the make it coliseum and it's been baseline the baseline action and they're just setting it up bringing out a little hurt and taking their time and you thought maybe this is what the Bulldogs would do and he's doing a nice job and they'll get the ball on the turnover 300.
They can afford to take their time.
They have a 17 point lead, so they're not in any hurry right now.
Still continue the full court pressure.
We remind you these hall, the top ranked boys team in the state, they're showing you what an unbelievable condition these athletes, these guys able to go out and play this kind of basketball at this pace for 32 minutes.
We saw it goes deep, too.
They bring guys off the bench and they and you talk to the coach, he said go as hard as you can and when you can't go harder, will bring somebody in for you.
You just you have to have a deep bench when to play this type of basketball.
The bad about it is Rick Pitino Kentucky and New York Knicks hole.
Just keep bringing them in and pressure Brown again a little hesitation move to the hole and gets the call.
They're going to call the block.
I believe they are rested as good.
Very nice hesitation move.
He's a strong kid.
Got the bump he never felt so valued Brown with a poetic move he's solid ten points five boards, six one.
The plays much bigger than that almost averaged 22 points a game this season.
The positions he plays in football style, that that is Jay Faxon.
He's a linebacker.
Well, he's playing football I bet he's been asked he does look at wingspan now the pressure from the Bulldogs trying to capitalize maybe on some turnovers of their own and his hall handles it Wow How did he get past baseline type long three pointer good three pointer Josh Hutson with good work but there's brown I think he's just saying I'm taking it I'm taking a good idea of doing stuff like that.
And Jason Randolph went about two guys on the baseline Bingo There could have been six inches of room for him to get past those two guys and he was passed before they blink.
He's call doing something interesting, too.
They're keeping Hutchins back to break the press the big guy back for the relief valve and it's working 4530 still a 15 point lead for this East Hall team.
We're in the third quarter with about 4 minutes to go, slowing it down and being much more delivered than they were.
He's hauled in the first half.
We're looking for the open threes and taking one together and hitting them when they get home.
Well, Randolph creating havoc because he's penetrating and then his dish and twice now four open threes Nice shot by Lee Hall the lukewarm and we're just going back and forth we go and Brown trying to take over and he hasn't put that he's been great effort looks like he almost hurt himself one of his ankles because he's favoring his right ankle.
We'll see.
There's that release out all the press and he's hall breaks it way outside the three pointer pass gets hit They've had threes, too.
And that's just a dagger in the heart because Clark County playing better basketball now that he's hauled making everything they throw up Javon Randolph with a three is that a is that a double entendre there a dagger in the heart got a little action out there a little frustration on the part of park Danny and Matt Gibbs their well happens in a hurry when you play against these teams you like the pressure to hit a three.
I mean if you've got that combination, that's pretty good.
5132 And just seconds ago it was a 14 or 15 point lead and back and forth.
And when those threes go up and they go in, that is tough, especially when you try to come back very strong, looking underneath back and up with another three when you believe not good.
This time the Bulldogs recovered control of the boards and did everything to stay in the crowd, saying I'm taking over jumpers.
Good open start is good for Kendrick Harper and that's what they need.
More backcourt pressure.
These tall attacks that press but the ten level that's going that way.
He's tall, doing a great job and getting the ball into the middle against that pressure, as you said still.
And that's what opens up.
You got two ways you can go once you get the ball in the middle of the court.
Gobert Randolph trying to check back in freestyle.
He's the guy that could really break the press by himself He's tall setting up and that's the man to man looking inside it out six going one over they just looking as Herb said, you're up on 17.
You can look for very good shots you should always but less pressure when you're up by that.
But hold on playing good man to man defense.
That's a good shot.
Oh my goodness.
What a pick.
Double believable by the big guy, Josh Hopkins.
And all of a sudden things are getting a little out of control and going east Causeway.
Excuse this pick his pocket.
It was a beautiful play.
Got it back himself, took three dribbles, stopped and watched it.
Here's on the replay Josh for a big guy has great range as the second three pointer in a row he's hit a spot up, young man.
Shoot it.
He's called.
Just knows how to play that pressure.
And when they get that ball, they turn it into points.
Three point field goals, eight of 15.
That's great shooting in any league, high school, college or throw eight for 15.
And the problem is what's happened is again, Jason Randolph, most of the time is getting the ball, taking it to the hoop, drawn two or three defenders and then there's two or three guys to choose from to shoot the three.
They're wide open and they're knocking them down.
You're right, by the way, all the state basketball championships can be seen live on the GPB website at WW Dot GP.
The talk all games will also be archived and they're available at a later date.
Blodget There show your support by signing up to become a member of GK TV.
That's w w w dot GP because you know for high school team to her when he's small gets a turnover they don't take it in for a long time.
They're pulling up for the threes and the outside shot which is pretty impressive.
Everything's been impressive about his health so far in this ball game.
Number one in the state triple AA.
You're right, I would love to see all the winners of each division go against each other to score control with the ball on the outside perimeter looking inside less than two to go in the third quarter.
Clark County, as we mentioned, not expected really to be here, pulled some upsets have run out of steam so far.
Nice pass inside cannot convert no rejection just Carter got up on that one Coach ridings know he's been in the business long enough to know the Cinderella team.
The first thing you got to do is go out there right from the start and let them know who you are and try to burst your bubble as quick as you can at that time in East Harlem, just brought their A-game.
And this one's not over yet with 133 left in the third quarter.
But he still has been impressive and so has that guy handling the ball, Javon Randolph, to back outside looking for that good shot.
The pace slowed for this whole team, certainly in their halfcourt offense.
They don't have something big at that inside.
And that's what we got.
And I think the tempers are flaring again, frustration on a heart counting start.
And there's the two didn't see what Oh yeah.
Okay.
I understand that you saw it on the replay.
Kristen Rucker got it right in the nasralla.
Well, I assume the official didn't see the first move.
And that's that's unfortunate because that's not a clean play on the part of the that Hudgins I didn't see the replay I was looking at Rutgers if he was okay and he did take a shot so shooting the Seneca will be Javon Randolph at six the second consecutive game versus a major league album his first technical foul and I've seen it all the games where he plays an extremely, extremely clean basketball games, a lot of sportsmanship.
I think I just it just is way to go.
Jim Birch was going down his bench, said, hey, stay calm, don't get excited.
That's on Monday.
There's this talking going on on this court.
There's some there's some talking going on.
Well, any time you're being embarrassed and that's a little hard candy right now, being embarrassed, 24 points down in the third quarter.
And, you know, emotions are going to run high.
The top artist mentioned that may be the first technical we've seen since we've been doing these games.
And that's really a credit to the coach that his kids.
That's amazing, actually.
Well, here we go with just about a minute left in this third quarter, things getting a little physical, little pressure, three pointer and that'll make it just that much more frustrating.
Grady Langston, the sophomore with a three pointer and we're out of 61 to 34 ballgame and there's another turnover.
I think that ball is tipped.
Matt Gibbs No, I don't think so.
Going the other way throws it out of bounds.
And let's say you could be right here if he got those ones right once back at 63, he's good.
So it's been 63 and all three, which is when Thanksgiving now 2043 here will be right again.
Here we go.
Bulldogs, those Clark County Bulldogs trying to dig in to what seems like an lead of 27 huge points.
Pressure still on, but you saw all right got the bounce something finally with their way that gets put up the jumper in itself and I and I'll tell you right now I know that's only going to once have a goal, but there's a lot of talking going on and I think it's in the middle of the fourth quarter.
But still, I guess this referee's better really keep an eye on these guys.
The basket goes up and goes down and if it's a cat bounce, fortuitous, foul, you're right to I mean, we played enough ball to know the game's over and you're way down.
People are talking.
It's awful hard to keep your temper.
Ralph Reed Maybe you can't see it from that high angle, but down here low, we see some talking amongst both teams.
So let's see what happens.
Hopefully a good, clean game.
That's what it's been so far.
For the most part.
These tone controlled the ball and the game with 12 left in this third quarter.
Well, he's got a good bench in officiating, too, as well.
They're not going to let it get out of hand at the buzzer.
Good if it goes, but it doesn't.
What a quarter.
So after three You're watching TV.
Bringing you the best.
You're watching the GHC Basketball State Championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Boys three Championship.
There you see it all in control over Howard County, 61 to 36.
Part of the reason the third quarter East hauled five for seven from three point line.
Well, speaking of control, we saw the officials huddling right after that third quarter and they're going to take control of this ball game.
They what's going on out on the floor.
And they have spoken a little bit to both teams and said, hey, guys, keep it clean.
We're in control of this ball game.
Let's play ball.
And obviously good love to win a state title.
But no matter what happens if you've gotten here, you've had a terrific season.
Sure.
But these young kids, you know, emotions, all their family and friends in the stands and you can understand the emotions.
And I'm not sure what happened here.
The referee went over and he has to head his jersey out.
And you had a jersey tucked in.
All right.
That's sometimes it just looks out.
Part county in control of the ball starting this fourth quarter, trying to something.
And that's the man who could possibly make it a little closer.
BROWN He had a terrific third quarter, relentless.
He saw it relentless with that matter that are up gets and a foul.
So he'll go to the foul line he'll shoot two and they have to work so hard just to get a look at the basket Stu I mean he's tall.
Just not only do they pressure you in the full court, they pressure in the halfcourt as well.
That's key.
It's 49.
He's a center.
He runs the show for his hard counting team.
Coach Jim Birch had a terrific six years there, 105 wins and 50 losses.
It's not really a big score.
So if you see only three points I want to read out, it really doesn't tell the whole story.
He's supposed to just give it to the right guy.
Second shot is up and it's good and he's tall with control.
He's had the unenviable task of being the point man against pressure all night long, and he's also guarded probably three or four guards because they bring him in off three pointer.
How good bulldogs will try to get something going and there's a foul and they're going to call it a little tighter.
Yep.
Any kind of incidental contact, anything that looks like it's suspicious, call it right now.
It's a very good idea.
That's the way you get control of the game back right there early.
They would let that go earlier in.
The game hard counter to inbound kind of like if you're right you know four or five times to let it go and then you've gone too far and boom, starts low and boom, right on.
You get three or four times two.
And I'm on the bench.
Here we go, sleeping on the sofa.
These are what the Charlotte Hornets do.
They come in.
Nice jumper, sophomore, long pass.
Not a good idea, but a foul.
And at this point just go for it Berry Ellison with the foul here you see Jason up with the blue and with the three Nicely done that's his great court awareness beat his man on the baseline.
Good at taking it all the way and decided to kick it out for the three.
His approach is really unselfish certainly he's tall is I mean when they get on the break, can they get a steal?
They're just looking for the first open matter of the first open look.
Nice backdoor.
Oh, little suspicious there, but let it go.
What to her Pretty solid control.
Upwards of three half to three rebound by Chevalier Brown's going to bring it himself Nice look and there's a foul and I will tell you this Jimmy Evans took the three pointer so he got back on defense quickly but it will be on court count it to the line nice block by Celtic Coleman but they got the foul down low Here you go first guy got to be Chris Martin at the line You need to lose a junior so possibly you can see a lot of these same players next year.
A lot of these players will be returning for their senior and junior year.
But we say that every year about his haul.
I'm telling you, three of the last four years are in here.
And, you know, you get a program going like that in a in a smaller community.
And every kid in the community wants to be a part of that program.
You know, from the time they're in the second, third and fourth grade, you see a lot of young kids up in the stands tonight.
That's all they're thinking about is getting with that program and being able to play in a game like this.
And it just feeds on itself.
64 eight, 64, 39 with 626 left, fourth quarter loose ball runs the ball, dishes the ball, passing it over, passing.
You can't go out and come back in and do the dipsy do.
He's quick, but he's not that great with the official pins.
His step out shot back.
He used to do that when you were a kid and what was your best move?
Just don't talk.
Listen, just go over.
Everybody just dunk.
That was your best move, which was found a lot to dunk.
I was.
Hey, this is a guy talking to another guy who went to the pros.
What am I what am I saying?
You went to the big show in the NBA and you can see they're really calling it close.
A little push off there.
And the other way we go, he's tall, will get possession of the ball.
It's amazing how nice you and Jimmy not going.
Those guys are totally on the air.
You know, It's really something nice.
Move up and good Cut by John Randolph to the hoop That's still putting on pressure because I guess if you're pressed the whole time, regardless of the scoring, just keep it on.
This is, after all, the state finals round, trying to bring it up over to Gibbs, to the hoop up at the left hander and.
Good.
Yeah, that was Gail Goodrich.
They have to be able to remember that guy.
I was going to say, one of my audiences is under 93 years old, so just keep that in mind.
Shot is up and my mind wandering as I'm trying to think of the best left handed shooter in the league right now, which leads the NBA.
You said Gail Goodrich, who would be the best moderator, and he was a great little guard from UCLA in the mid sixties and then had a great career in the NBA with the L.A. Lakers Now, just a perspective shift teams for some of your younger fans out there, just for your perspective.
That's when they were calling John Wooden to that kid.
The coaches over at UCLA, he's going to be pretty good.
Yeah.
Goodrich played on some of those early 64, 65, 66 teams when Wooden got his dynasty going.
Just to show you, I'm almost as old as you.
Wasn't at that court with Walt Hazzard, too.
You're right.
Can you tell it?
66, 41, five star, six.
We bring out the scrapbooks up and no good bulldogs try to control that.
It is that man again.
He's all over the court.
Randolph, set it back up.
He's going to take the three, no doubt in my mind for no good and roll.
Scott, that Randolph going, It's all over the court.
The ball's just bouncing like a pinball.
And finally Jabbar says, Hey, let's set this thing up and look for a good shot.
Matt Gibbs showing Some hops there.
But man, they did this tall work it off some clock, going for the get shot down there.
That is going to be his third possession.
Randolph penetrating and pulling it back down Park trying to play it tough man to man.
Oh, with 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter and he's in no hurry working it inside and out.
That's an impressive how they work it in and pull it out and put it out for the three.
He doesn't go that time and the Bulldogs control thinking about a play with Martin pull it back up to Gibbs with the left handed jumper like Darrell Goodrich.
From what we understand, it's not to do so he's tall, bringing up, getting more delivered and working that clock.
Hart County still battling, still scrapping after getting out of the defense, taking him part county with three juniors in their starting lineup, some good looking players that come off the bench.
Jackson, that big football player who can play some basketball too, will be back.
So this is a team that will remember this.
Remember the bad taste in say, next year, another season brings up an interesting points, too.
As a player in a championship game like this, would you rather lose by 25?
Would you rather lose on the last second shot?
Remember at the rest of your life and say, hey, one thing went our way and we win that championship game?
Or would you just say, Hey, those guys were better than us?
I know it's a personal my personal thing.
Yeah, I would rather lose by one, lose by one and say we could have won.
And then, you know, as the years go by, lie about it, said we were wrong.
You got fouled on that sound.
The referee was a relative of the other team.
Yeah.
There's no excuse.
As the years go on, you make more excuses.
Bulldogs try to go through the hole trying to make it a reasonable score up and in and a nice drive by Demetrius Martin time out by Haqqani.
But this gives us a chance to discuss some of these philosophical basketball questions.
It's sometimes don't get talked about where's that nice drive that we were talking about by the matrix as he goes to the hole I was supposed to ask you, I forgot what I was going to ask you for that an answer in the fourth quarter, but you never remember.
But I haven't thought about it.
You asked me who was the best team I've seen since we've been at Westover.
Had some great teams.
Well, think about it for a second.
Let me read this promo when I get back to you.
Please have an answer.
I'm going to ask Frank.
By the way, we hope you are enjoying this broadcast of the G. H. S a class AA state championship.
You can show your appreciation and your support by becoming a member of GPA, TV.
It's easy and it is totally secure.
Log on to our website at w. W w g. T. V dot org.
And of course, thank you for supporting high school sports.
Watching TV, we were here.
I'll never forget.
I guess it was a couple of years ago when I came in and said this guy is going to be is ready for the NBA.
He's one of the best high school players ever seen.
And of course, you were talking about Kobe Bryant, who eventually would become the number one draft pick by those Washington Wizards in the NBA.
Listen to these numbers.
Jevon Randolph, 21 points, five rebounds, four sets, two steals.
And he's apparently addressing the senior class on Monday.
He's absolutely controls this basketball game that court crusher Bulldogs trying to come up with some turnovers but he's having none of it bringing the ball over quite easily, working it around working the clock and then control most of the way.
Was there a turning point in this game or was it just one team had it the better team and the better players and it was really just a matter of time.
Yeah, it was the first half with the 18 to 20 turnovers just almost impossible to overcome and they lost their confidence also at that point, I believe our count he did.
He saw just for the work down the clock and worked for a good shot, probably a layup if not a layup, then try to get out and go to the line.
Nothing too fancy.
Almost going to that same Four Corners North Carolina offense and this is a truly frustrating part of the game is you're part county.
You want to play as hard as you can.
You're down by some 23 points.
You would like the game to have.
To tell you the truth, it does hurt Brazil playing hard coach ridings in a tough position.
You know, you don't want to power out when you got this huge lead.
And if you freeze it, then they're saying, well, why aren't you playing?
So it's a tough position to be in, but not that tough when you're at 21 and about to win a state championship.
A little bit of a philosophical quandary.
Again, Demetrius Martin hit that jumper and off the court looking like he might a sprained ankle, but ripping off his buddy Langston the six two sophomore 255 left in the final game of this year's state championships.
And it's as Herb White, who's seen a lot of basketball in the state of Georgia, said that one of the best times on the break too on one block and fouled Demetrius Martin great hops Jason Randolph trying to take it to the basket Nice clean play he went for the block just got it with the body Here you go one Randolph up high can get up but so can Mr. Martin.
So to the line Javon Randolph who will shoot to Hill, I guess.
Well, we got a moment still.
We want to thank all of the crew that's been out here, been in Atlanta and been down in Macon over the weekend.
Guys left after the games in Atlanta last night, packed up, drove down here and had about a 730 tip off this morning with the crew.
And those guys do yeoman work and they do a great job, there's no doubt about.
Well, I will tell you this.
I watched your Wheeler Jonesboro game and you can watch college games and pro games and the production and the camera work is second to none.
I say, except for the announcers, everything.
First.
I would say last night you guys were a little off your game, but tonight you made a comeback.
Yes, of course.
I'm just kidding.
He's calm with the game up top with the ball in and there's big Josh Hutchins who's hit the three pointers.
And I guess he just wanted to show to you Go inside to that.
We've had a couple of legends, Teresa Edwards, of course, working a couple of ladies cancer.
You see the replay with Edwards taking it up strong and one of the great female basketball players of all time.
And of course, Dominique Wilkins sitting in in Atlanta with us last night, the human highlight film, The best player in the history of the Atlanta Hawks and one of the best players in the history of the NBA, in my opinion.
Hutchins missed that.
Yeah, got shot.
And it will be the Clark County Ball and Jim Pinocchio hold it all together like he always does.
Everything you say.
Nice.
Ditto touch.
It goes exactly for me, too.
And by the way, Stu clatter Nick about to be father this summer, so congratulations on that.
I have a Tootsie Roll pop here flat on the cigar.
And I do have a Tootsie Roll pop now.
Appreciate that.
Okay, back to the game.
This time in the game, 69 to 45.
He's tall in control most of the way.
And then it's easy to see why these guys were 30 and one in the number one team in the state.
And, you know, they moved up in the classification a couple of years ago.
They were just playing well.
They're impressive and they're young.
And as we mentioned, all ten sophomores on this team, two freshmen, I mean, and those ten as opposed to freshmen, they get significant time.
It's not like they're sitting on the bench.
Marcus Jackson has been solid.
He's only a sophomore.
He's one of those guys will be coming back for another couple of years.
And then right now, you just don't want to sound like you're still pressing and still trying to score and still score with an exclamation point.
Oh, that's a textbook fast break there.
That was Barry Allison, and that will be probably the good night.
Whoosh.
And that was Frank Davis on the Pass on the Dead run.
That was a nice play.
Here it is up and a slam.
And that's a tough play to make.
So that bounce pass like the watch system right between the defender and make it come up right in the guy's hands.
You got to put that reverse spin on there.
Nicely done.
And we're going to get five substitutes for our cannons.
Everybody is going to get a chance to play in the state championship game.
And once again, I'm just impressed by the overall talent of the basketball in the state of Georgia.
We have so many underclassmen coming back next year that are great players.
Then some banks with South Atlanta, We saw him the other night in a losing effort against Griffin, but just an unbelievable basketball player.
And Louis Williams didn't make it into the tournament.
The fastest quarter finals from South but he's a sophomore averaged 31 a game this year.
It plays about two feet above the rim.
Most of the time he'll be back in there and just a lot of great players from all over the state and Georgia Public television is going to continue to bring in the action every year.
You know, that's the fun part about it.
Just when you thought you're seeing the best player you've ever seen, the next year, you see a kid that comes up, you go, you know what?
He can be that much better.
Watch basketball.
Gotten so much better in Georgia.
Well, he's actually always been great basketball.
But I think over the years, especially the last few and you said the high school teams really gotten better.
Has it been just obviously more kids participating, better competition for maybe even outside of Georgia to go and take some of these better teams and go to other places and play?
I think all of those are factors.
You got a lot of great coaches in Georgia, and I rattled off some names of some of the male players and a lot of great girls are going to be coming back next year and.
We've seen a lot of great basketball at Parkview Team.
They won a state championship last night.
I got to take my head off.
Coach McCaw, that may be the best coached girls or boys team I've seen play in the state of Georgia in quite some time.
Just tremendous, fundamentally sound team, both teams with wholesale substitutions as we count down to a championship here for we saw the number one team in the state in triple play.
And again, they're not attacking the basketball, which is we're down the clock.
Don't go for the hoop unless you have a wide open layup and there will be a celebration.
These tall put on the pressure as hoop said that the turnovers in that second and some in the third quarter just the difference in too much to overcome but this is a very tired it is tough to win and you don't get to be number one in the state without having a lot of talent, a lot of balance in the good play.
32 games only lose one game all year against the caliber of competition these guys have to face night in and night out in Georgia like we were just caught about.
Amazing, amazing feat for this team.
And there are four young guys waiting get in hoping that this clock run down, just waiting or seeing someone take a shot.
Someone get fouled.
Please.
This is state championship.
I want to tell somebody I got in the game still waiting and there's a shot.
And it was just crazy.
Looks to block that bucket.
Someone gets out, so he's going to go there.
Here we go, girl.
Laughing.
You know, I'll say, Come on, I want to get in the film, too.
We practiced all year.
We got beaten up by you guys in practice.
We sometimes even let you score.
Let us in the game and go.
And here come the lot of the starters out there getting a well-deserved round of applause in the face of the game.
I'll good to.
I'll drive two and a half from way up there and he's tall.
Let's name some of these guys are getting it to Paul Wilson in trouble for 511.
He's a sophomore some plays Kwame up six three.
Another sophomore all getting it all getting a taste of what high school basketball is all about.
Championships are all about.
Would you rather win by one, lose by one or lose by 25?
I'm with you.
Still relevant.
Lose a close one.
We're done to four games in the last 40 minutes.
You're finally with me.
Well, we've had ten games over the last two days and really, this is the only game has really been a blowout.
Even the Decatur Mitchell Baker game, you know, the game we did earlier, Decatur came back and had an opportunity in that basketball game to really make it close with about 5 minutes to go.
It didn't quite take the opportunity, but it's been a credit to all the teams in this tournament that no matter what their record was, that no matter what the difference in talent level, everybody's played a good ballgame in this tournament.
So very happy.
Josh Gibson Randolph in the middle of everything on the bench as he was in the middle of everything in the game.
We'll want to get down with 37 left you get in the game like this, just shoot it.
Of course, on the course should never be any doubt.
Want to see that name in the paper with some points next to it.
Chris Millwood will go to the foul line.
Now these might not be big crowd shots to you.
That might not be big shots to the fans here, but to Mr. and Mrs. Millwood and the Millwood and to this young guy, that's a big foul shot.
I love high school basketball.
It's it's basketball in its purest.
And you're right about that second one is all.
And I give the referees control a credit for getting control because there was a little time, as we noticed that things are going to pan.
I mean, they they get a couple of close calls and it was it was just calm.
Well, just to just say that we had somebody say something back to one of the officials and I know Coach Burks is not happy.
Again, a little bit of frustration and you can understand it after we got to be feeling a little bit embarrassed by that scoreboard that I was erotic around.
And he is taking a seat or standing not even taking.
And the coach was maybe giving a bit of a lecture on what's going on.
But you right about what you're saying.
And then it goes to the officials came over here and let us guess, we're going to get control of this basketball game.
And from that point on, they did.
There was never another cheap shot.
They called a few close fouls.
The players got the message.
And it's been a clean game since first time for up and no good.
And the second one is good.
You know, you hear the screams and there's these kids, your classmates that are here, they're just dying for you to.
Get in the game and score a point.
You know, they're rooting for it.
I mean, they're used to the starters getting in there.
Oh, yeah.
I'm telling you, these games, you just don't realize how big these games are to the people in your town.
I still into people now that I ran into tonight that are still talking about we didn't win the state championship we played for one back in 66 and people tell me what a great what a great year that was.
I'll never forget all the great wins that we've had and all the excitement that they had at those games.
And it's it's just amazing.
You really don't realize it till you've been out of school for quite a while.
How important this is not just to the teams, but to the communities and everybody.
Paul Wilson One for two just lined up and if you have a ticket, you might be able to shoot a technical.
It's technical foul shooting night.
Well, all the guys that just came here to get their shot at getting in the book, that's the box for you to take it out, show to your kids.
Hey, look and look at their teammates over there enjoying just as much as they are.
Sure that we can get you a free throws, too.
How about it?
I don't know if I can get to the basket.
27 seconds left in an 81 to 47.
Would you shoot about 90% free plus whatever you do?
Oh, now you 90% of the got 10,000 shots on the season.
There's another dunking.
We're getting a little fancier.
Showtime.
10 seconds to go.
We don't want anybody getting hurt trying to go up and get fouled going for a dunk.
All right.
My one last point for the night.
If you've been enjoying these games, we've certainly let you do more high school sports on go the totality.
You know, we're doing 12 football games each year.
We're doing ten high school basketball games.
We do a tape show of the cheerleading finals, but there's a lot of other kids and a lot of the sports out there competing all year round and high school sports.
And if you want to help Georgia Public Television, bring some of those kids the recognition they deserve and televise some of those high school sports, then call Georgia Public Television to get on our website that you mentioned a little while ago.
Did the WW EP Dawg become a member of TV?
And we can have some more high school sports for you.
Sounds good.
Well, that's it for Boise State triple-A championship.
The final score, East 81, part County 47.
And right here is what it's all about.
Doesn't matter how many times these kids win, it's always a new crop coming in and just going enjoy it just as much.
Yeah, for the most part, close games deserves heard mentioned and it's been a fun, fun night.
So let's go over to the coach and now pretty excited man Jock thanks to here was a vining you can actually breathe now you got triple zeros up there dominating performance time.
I thought our guys just great and it's just a great effort.
We were aggressive the whole night.
We just played really great.
It feels good.
How difficult is it when?
You're ranked number one to stay number one and to finish number one?
Well, I don't think this team really worried about too much.
They just took one game at a time and they had to go to the be here the end of the season.
I mean, we were here and they just played great.
We played our best last game of the year, I think.
So it is a super effort.
Final Fours for the last five years, whether it's double or triple A, how easy is it or how difficult is it as years have progressed for you?
It's hard to maintain once you get here, but I think the experience of being here is really helpful.
But most of these guys, this is their first trip, so hopefully they'll be back a few more times.
Coach said, Bonnie, congratulations.
Ten champs down.
We're done.
The pool is closed.
Jim, back to you.
All right, John, thanks.
Thanks very much.
He's tall Windsor second title in the last three years, 81 to 47.
We wrap up championship weekend.
We thank you for all of your support and joining us during this championship weekend here on TV.
We want to thank Stu Clyde technique and Herb White for a great job including John Nelson the best technical team in the state.
What a job they've done in Atlanta and in Macon, particularly the whole crew.
I'm Jim Tanaka.
