We're excited to have you with us.
Good evening, everyone.
Dave Garner alongside Dick Williams, my broadcast partner, back for another one right here.
And tell you what, Dick, a great matchup here between two teams that have a little history this year.
They do.
They do have a good bit of history, but they also feature the same kind of attack, strong outside and strong inside.
Key players on both sides.
Let's talk a little bit about this Carrollton Lady Trojan team.
Of course, they were in the title game last year and they're led by that young lady right there, Charisma Boykin, among others.
Well, Charisma Boykin, we saw her last year.
She averaged 17 points a game.
But more importantly, she has 133 steals and 136 assists.
So she's a good thief as well.
But she is the principal outside threat.
Melissa Jones Charisma Boykin consists of Red Lee Jarvis Ealy and Cambrai.
Winter is the starting five for Carrollton right there again at 31 and two coming in to today's ballgame.
All right, Dick, let's talk a little bit about LIFO, the Lakeview for all The Fourth Lady Warriors have gotten it done all year long, 29 and three coming in.
They've got a lot of great talent.
And it starts with Kayla Weaver.
Well, Kayla Weaver is one of the outstanding shooters in the state of Georgia.
She's shooting 42.9% from three point range.
And from what I hear about the Lakeview team, that three point shot is is heavily counted on for them.
But they do have an inside presence.
But I think we're gonna see somebody special.
And Kayla Weaver, Ashley McKenzie, Kayla Weaver, Jasmine Carey, Michelle Morgan and Madison Smith make up the starting five for LIFO again.
A team ranked third in the state, coming in Carrollton ranked at number two and indeed a great matchup here today.
Of course, Lakeview handing Carrollton one of their only losses on the season.
Of course, that in the region six triple-A championship.
Let's go to the other member of our team here today, Lisa Weise, joins us courtside.
Lisa, what's going on?
Thanks, Dave.
This game is bound to be a battle til the end.
As you said, L.A. is making its first ever appearance in the state finals at Fanatic Back Elbow have never won a playoff game before.
This year, L.A. Warriors win their region title for the first time in almost two decades.
And yes, they did beat Carrollton for that crown.
Not that Carrollton needed much more motivation because they lost here last year, but they've coach Thomas and did say he's kind of glad that L.A. beat his girls.
Because you know what?
Just adds more fuel to the fire and all that it does.
They're indeed ladies.
And we look forward to talking to you throughout the broadcast here.
But yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun watching these two teams go at it.
You don't, Carol.
That's got to be thinking a little bit about what happened a couple of weeks back in that region.
Championship game.
Right now, let's go courtside to our announcer, Long time announcer Eddie Ashley for the day.
Tonight's introductions, Carol to the lady Trojans with a record of 31 and two dressed in black as your visitors on the scoreboard and the lake View Fort Oglethorpe, lady warrior with a record of 23 dressed in white as the home team.
Now have your attention for the starting line ups.
First, for Carroll to head forward a five foot nine senior Giannis Ealy at Guard number 12, a five foot four senior Alyssa Jones at forward number 20, a five foot eight junior Camry winner this look at guard number 22, a five foot seven senior Charisma Boykin at center number 30, a six foot senior Kelsey Billing and Carlton's head coach Sean Thomaston.
And now for Lakeview, Fort Oglethorpe.
At guard number four, a five foot seven senior Ashley McKenzie.
At guard number five, a five foot eight senior, Kayla Weaver.
At forward number 12, a five foot nine junior, Michelle Morgan at center number 22, a six foot junior, Jasmine Terry at forward number 23, a five foot six junior, Madison Spear and Lake view for the football head coach feet.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station Carrollton at 31 and two Lake View Fort Oglethorpe at 29 and three.
As we welcome you to the U.S., you may consider flex for tonight's 888 girls state championship match up.
They've garnered Dick Williams with Elisa Reece courtside along with the rest of the GPB crew.
And looking forward to a great night of basketball.
Carrollton will be wearing the road black and elephant at the home right here tonight.
Dick, a great matchup here Again, two teams playing a rematch of the region six triple A championship.
Of course, LFA winning that match up against Carrollton, one of just two Lady Trojan losses on the year the other against a another Final four team and Baldwin as you see here are officials there Andre Stephenson Tony Doherty and William Battle and they are from the Valdosta and the Albany area.
So the turnaround right there would not go for Denise Ely.
And that's certainly a player to watch here tonight.
Number four, averaging 17 points a game.
We focused on her up top here tonight.
Well, they got the outside threat and charisma Boykin at 17 points a game and she Missy Elliott 17 points a game inside off the inbound you get that one knocked away ends up into the hands of Michelle Morgan number 12 again Morgan a5a junior kicks it back out Look at inside right here.
LIFO again is a good at shooting team although they missed that one right there.
They've got a great perimeter shooter and Kayla Weaver probably looking if I'm seeing anybody who can shoot 42.9 from three I want to see.
Yeah.
Meanwhile, Ashley McKenzie on the other end after the takeaway, it'd be interesting to see how the early momentum plays out.
A lot of the games this weekend, as you see McKenzie for the first two of the ball game for LIFO, we've had two games, you and I, that started out nine to nothing, ten to nothing.
Now, Wofford drawing first quarter here inside the first minute Carrollton on the other end again that's Jones with the basketball shot off the mark would not go Jasmine Terry really the big inside presence for this lady warrior team at six feet McKenzie with the basketball over to Weaver man to man defense for Carrollton Good cross court Look right here pull up jumper off glass wood knocked over McKenzie filtered back the other way And so far here inside the first minute and a half, it's pretty much been one shot now on both ends.
That's right.
There is a two opportunity that Exactly.
Yeah that's how it works to show time.
And they had three opportunities but still couldn't get the shot to go right there there still.
Now Weaver pulls up three point shot on the way.
It's off the mark.
And again, it might take one or two to get to the rhythm for both teams here to play.
2 minutes and just two points.
Both teams averaging over 60 points a game like before.
Oglethorpe with 64 offensively and tilted averaging 61.
So giving up a lot less points though again this lady chose the team really prides itself on its defense allowing just 31 points on the season to its opponents, three point shot on the other end off the mark wouldn't go for Hanbury Winter Winters the five nine junior but Carrollton will reset the half court and that would take it away for defense as we're talking about right there.
Both teams really shutting it down inside.
That was quite a battle between like Lakewood's Blake is Jasmine Carey and the Defender Fitzgerald.
So Carey gives it up right there.
Basketball inside gives the off the front of the arm blocking foul and that one going to go against the lady Trojans C Taylor Weaver number five taking it inside right there No foul going to be on Ridley there you can look at coach John Thomaston 220 wins 11th season at Carrollton has put together an impressive run it I tell you what he's another young looking guy right there.
It didn't look like he's been around enough.
The way they're tackling, you almost wonder if you know, he's the eighth grade substitute teacher, right?
We were knocking down the first free throw.
She'll have another and it's two for two for a lead here for late D for Oglethorpe.
Out of the gate now, the lady warriors of 11 over the press up a little get to half court trapping action Nice job there by McKenzie to get a hand on that one to knock it out of bounds and Carrollton as you mentioned and you see Wayne Weaver 20th season at LSU overall 146 record and father of Taylor Weaver, Absolutely.
His leading scorer.
Weaver, of course the all time leading scorer at Elbow and also has a couple of other school records as well.
That fellow who graduated from the school, went away to college, came home, said this is my home, I'm staying here.
I'll take another look at that last buzzer right here.
You see the inlet there by Winters going inside.
To Lisa Ridley.
And you see Ridley's numbers right there, 7.2 points, five and a half rebounds a game.
And this is on the first Ridley get a5a junior trying to get Carrollton on the scoreboard here and this is on the second and I believe foot on the line right here by Michelle Morgan So Carrollton will maintain the possession player substitution right here for Carrollton looks like number 12 Alyssa Jones will step back into the lineup.
You see Boykin who will inbound it.
Oh great.
Move to the hoop right there by the teaser Ridley Ridley With her first two of the night, there was a wide open lane.
And take another look at it right here.
Boy, Ridley came out of nowhere and was not accounted for by the L.A. Defense back on the other end, Ashley McKenzie with the Basketball.
And it's Kayla Weaver, quiet so far here.
Take away took her eyes off the pass right there.
BOYKIN on the other end, knocked away but good hustle there by Kyrie Quick rise up and get back to the nose And there you are You see that was Madison Smith back there on defense LIFO of course their first region championship in almost two decades when they beat Carrollton a couple of weeks back.
First title game here tonight man to man Defense four Nothing fancy knows that walking up top right now again being guarded by Smith the five for junior looking to go inside that didn't work off the hands but had to take it away McKenzie ahead here's is Weaver spinning puts up a tough shot hits Taylor Weaver with four points And I'll tell you what she's been so consistent the postseason 35.
They could get Stevens County in round two and 33 last night in that big win over Baltimore to advance to tonight's championship game.
Now, she appears to be a pressure player.
She looks like the type who wants the ball in two situations.
That was a really nice spin move.
She made into the lane right there.
Boykin had it knocked away.
Meanwhile here, Carrollton, of course, taking care of business last night against Rutland.
6851 Slow start of that game for Carrollton.
In fact they trailed by four at the break but open the third quarter with a 20 to 4 run.
Well they're not rocket they're not off to a rocket ride in this one.
So far, no, they'll get it together.
But as well as 6 to 11 leads Carrollton in the class three AA Girls State championship.
And let's go ahead and send it downstairs.
Lisa, we standing by with a special guest, Lisa, today.
Joining me now is Carrollton principal Mark Mark Albertus.
And I know you guys were here last year and you made it to back again this year.
What does that say about this program and how exciting has it been?
Oh, well, we're proud of our girls.
They know how hard it what the hard work it takes to get get here.
And they've worked really hard.
They're great student athletes and we've had a great showing from the Trojan Nation supporting them.
And we say hello to everybody back in Carrollton.
Well, thank you so much time and enjoy the rest of the game.
Dave, back to you.
All right, Thanks, Lisa.
Yeah.
Mr. Albertus And the year of the Trojan Nation in the house here tonight, the lady warrior faithful have also traveled well from Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, here tonight as well, close to a Chattanooga.
They're making the trip down here to make it almost as far north and still be in Georgia as you've all Carrollton over on the west side there as well, close to the Alabama.
So, yeah, both teams traveling well and there's a jump off ball course by Kayla Weaver on the drive that's pushing the offense and that will be pro basketball There you see Weaver there you're talking about Weaver Dick and the records that she has at LIFO, not only the leading scorer, but also the leading assist leader, the leader in steals And the leader in a couple other categories are three point shooting and so forth that she's been so much to that program in her four years.
Well, you know, I've certainly no over accomplishments.
So you know, I live in Dunwoody and she is part of that NFL team last weekend that knocked Dunwoody out of state basketball.
Veteran girls are having a fine year, one of the best in a long time.
And so they're energy photographer and that was an exciting ball game, 50 to 49 in the quarterfinals.
Then Jasmine Curry had 20 points to lead the way in that game.
Of course, that went propelling like before it all before going to the semifinals.
You see the turnover story so far.
Hilton with five, LIFO with two.
And there's three points for number four.
Ashley McKenzie.
So McKenzie coming to debut at warmups mean nothing to do.
And I was noticing here that this may be just like the team can really shoot and so can very few misses during warm ups and Eric Carrollton answers on the other end and Kelsey Billings number 39 for advantage five point lead for LIFO here with a little over 2 minutes left in this opening quarter.
I think Carrollton wants to go inside more than LIFO does.
And that last basket was example of what they're trying to accomplish.
Whereas I think Lakeview is perfectly content to settle for a three with the gaudy shooting stats they've got traveling going to be called here on the show.
MORGAN So right back to the Lady Trojans, it goes.
I just see Coach Weaver looking on there, trying to rally the troops there.
You know, it's got to be exciting when you have that father daughter, that coach daughter combination, I guess, if you will, there.
And being able to look out, see, you're seeing your play in there and what she's meant to this program.
But I wonder how that changes.
I wonder how you look at the game as a coach.
Would you in that situation?
Well, I think I think in most cases I've seen the daughter of the son is an extension of the coach's thinking because they've grown up with it.
Right.
And Dunwoody, for example, the head coach, Angela Nash, had her daughter playing for leading the team.
And generally they're just a reflection of whatever the coaches particular philosophy is powerful.
Working on the other end, Weaver thought about it stops, kicks it back out, see Jasmine Carey trying to create some space there.
Took that shot from way out and got the role.
That's a long turnaround for to say that wasn't one of those little four or five footers in the lane right over open with her first two of the night, the six foot junior averaging over 13 and a half points, three point shot on the other end is there for Giannis Ealy.
Well he scores for the first time here tonight and of course we think of Janine healing as the inside player She found that arc really five foot nine averages about 17 points a game tonight defense right there not giving Weaver a whole lot of room here and you're not going to be able to do that here tonight.
We were really having to fight through some serious defensive activity.
She's not getting around the screens very easily.
Well, you know, that's got to be a game plan coming in.
Sure.
For coach because they don't want her to, but they want to get her feet set to shoot.
So they want to buffer a little bit out there.
It's all Kerry's numbers.
The six foot junior knocked it down, the first from the stripe.
Number three, Jessica White, a 510 freshman in the lineup for LIFO.
Jones back in for the Lady Trojans.
Second went all the way by Carey Rims out of there no good one of two on that trip 12 711 advantage under a minute here in this first period.
Oh great Look inside right there.
Just couldn't quite hit the shot ripped out of there though, and kept alive by Eli knocked away by period a whistle underneath Again, Karl needs to get that ball closer to the basket.
They want to pound it down there and use a little bit of a size edge they got.
It's not a dramatic advantage.
Maybe one the three team fouls now on LIFO zone in and of course we'll have to kick it way out.
It's a play right there by Boykin kind of let the ball go and not have to worry about touching it and then get top rack or if they're smart claim that going into the back throw something right there controlled right there offensive going against Eli and I believe that's going to be her second personal circle Nice job there in either by McKenzie and I've been impressed so far with Ashley McKenzie.
You know there's so much focus that goes into Kayla Weaver, but some of those other seniors have certainly stepped up this year.
McKenzie is one of them.
Apparently, they offered shoot to turnover travel call ball goes back to Carroll.
Wow.
Well, you know, we've seen a lot in these championship state where the turnovers and then the other teams converting that into points is certainly producing state champions.
And that's been the key in a lot of the games.
Two of the games we've seen two classifications.
That's right.
This ball game pretty tight right here.
But usually that's what it comes down to is those turnovers really had a lot of battles going on inside.
Oh, that's a great shot right there.
They're going to waive off the baskets.
It was on the floor more than thought.
She's going to have a chance at a three point play.
You could see the Carrollton faithful not like that at all very much.
No, they don't.
They ever do on that situation, because it's going to be the first time.
Kayla Weaver.
So as it is, Boykin will inbound from underneath her own zone right here, trying to get it in Jeff Beach.
The five second call.
Boykin with a nice move there along the baseline puts up a tough shot.
Yes Wow good crossover back there is never going to get free on the baseline.
12 nine to a one possession game with time winding down here in the first period.
That shot's too strong.
Kept alive and time will run out.
The step aside.
Take a break.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station on our phone.
Lady Warriors lead by three in this class, three girls state championship in Carrollton.
Lady Trojans have traveled well and make it a lot of noise right here.
We've got just a three point ballgame.
They've got a Dick Williams with you, Lisa.
We courtside along with the rest of the GPB crew.
And so far after a quarter, good ballgame back and forth.
Both teams admittedly, though, like to generate a little bit more offense.
Yes, of course.
But they're but they're they're playing hard.
Each team's playing very hard defensively and they're still sounding each other out, feeling each other out a little bit to see what's going to work.
Also working inside lost a handle on it, out of bounds.
Ella always claimed two state championships, one in baseball, 7172 season right there and also girls cross-country in 2007 Breakaway pass right dash to the Kensington Jasmine Carey with three points in that first quarter.
Ella four was led by Mackenzie with five, while Carrollton had Janice Ely with a three point shot to lead the way.
After that, three different players with a pair each and that shot by Wheeler up by Weaver off the mark would not go Hilton back and running the other way.
Carrollton playing in the state championship last year falling short against Kendrick but find themselves back in this year's championship and three a going up against the team they played in their region championship and fell to in 4438.
The final of that one LFO upsetting Carrollton in that ballgame Carrollton, despite the loss, still comes in as the two ranked team in the state.
Well that took care of the loss last year to candidate which you and I broadcast.
Well, they were overwhelmed by superior numbers.
They just Kendrick had an unusual style, used an unusual number of players and ran out of gas with my memory.
Kayla Weaver, working inside lays it up off the glass.
Good looking move right there.
And she's got six.
You can tell she's a coach's daughter.
Her form on her shot is perfect.
She released that layup at just the right moment.
She's a really well schooled player blocking fouls.
And we thought on Ella move coach Weaver right there looking on wanted the charge but did not get the goal there she set Michelle Ashley McKenzie looked like she'd gotten to the spot.
Of course we're looking at it at a little slower time, so the official has to make that call.
Charisma Boykin at the line, shooting a pair knocks down the first and Boykin has been so impressive throughout the postseason had 20 in that game last night.
So you're out here today already the senior playing your final game.
It is a lady throws it second one rims out of there.
What could have 16 in the quarterfinals against Columbia and also had 20 and round one against Carver Atlanta in double figures and round two against chastity.
So she's been very consistent in this year's postseason all the way to the state championship game.
And there's a take away five her opening time, if you'll notice Kayla Weaver on almost every offensive possession stops looks back at her father for the play call.
So maybe she's not in a total mind meld.
Right.
Exactly.
It still relies on that there a little bit.
Meanwhile, a four point ballgame right here with the basketball.
Still not really shooting an outside game here yet, as you see Jasmine, Terry, take it up and draw the whistle.
And Kelly seems to be playing outside and then going to the basket through fouls on Billings, as you see here.
She put up the first one.
This is it here with three points here today.
The 34 Jackie Shattuck, the five eight sophomore, will step in as we look at Coach Sean Thomas today we commented at the outset how young he looks.
I teased about perhaps he's the eighth grade substitute teacher.
He actually teaches at the middle school.
Carol.
So you're pretty close there.
Absolutely.
Kyrie, unable to hit the free throws, kept alive, though, underneath there by Madison Smith if they could not get the putback to go.
So Elephone comes up empty on that trip remains a four point ballgame right here.
BOYKIN Oh, great.
Pass.
Fire that ball in there.
Somehow or another, slipping up on the weak side.
Nobody watching that over there.
Nicely done.
Back on the other end.
KLEBER Tough drive, too strong and we've got to push underneath that one going against our third.
Michelle Morgan produced a foul.
Here's that last lady to the basket walker trapped on the line and finds her Conrad Right All alone on the weak side of the basket.
MORGAN Calling for that last foul.
Morgan fires it across shot put up here in and out.
The Danbury winners rolling around in there all night.
Saint is all alone on the other end.
Oh, and Morgan unable to hit the bucket.
That's a tough break right there and a two point ballgame.
So now Carrollton with a chance to possibly tie it up or take the lead here with 5 minutes to go in the half.
Thank you for Oglethorpe extending its defense pushing trying to push Carrollton have further got a real strong there Yeah jump off ball possession arrow lifo rugby match begins in 10 minutes.
Well you know Jake it's a situation where Carrollton has not had the best of starts in some of their games this year.
In fact, trailing by just four against Rutland, they're at one point Coach Johnston was actually pretty relieved at the way they played that They were within four right there.
But this is really a second half team.
So, you know trailing by two right here, certainly things are looking good for Carrollton, playing an excellent team like Blakeney for all the fourth grade kind of force that went up on the right side of the hoop.
Strong pass right there and a good look inside and two points for the season, really.
And a ball game tied up at 14 all as we near the halfway point of the second quarter.
Kayla Weaver has not had a lot of room to operate all night that's inside the shell Morgan the benefactor of that look what a sequence by this lady Warrior team.
You see them extending the defense, making it more difficult, forcing the three their three point shot is there for Morgan.
That's her second same spot, six points, 32nd time out on the floor, 1716.
Carrollton with their first lead of the night.
353 to play here in the second period it's a 32nd timeout and to keep the action right here for you.
But I'll tell you what they're just doing a great great job by Carrollton worked their way back in this game.
They were trailed by three after the first quarter.
Here they are.
Well, those two three pointers from the left side that goes work.
And that last was a dagger.
And I think probably what Coach a coach when he was talking to his team, that is why is that left side defense open.
So they get so much done and they have several scoring opportunities over their two trips.
First leading night for the Lady Trojans.
Let's not let one point lead with 353 to play here in period number two, stand alone big full court pressure trapping Preston Carrollton successfully navigated.
But you know we talk about defense and both these teams pride themselves on defense as you mentioned, Carrollton allowing just 31, but LIFO also pretty strong as well.
Just 41 allowed per game this season to their opponents.
Now they both extend their defense is quite well Carrollton of course playing man to man looking to double receiver occasion here she comes almost playing into the double team and gave it up and that's what she's got to go scrambling and it's all there on 11 all time out on the floor with three second one point game in this three eight girls championship.
Let's go to Lisa Lee's courtside with another guest.
Lisa, how is L.A.
Principal Jerry Ransom?
And I know this has been exciting historic season for this girls basketball team.
It really has.
We've been to the playoffs a few times before this year, but had never even won a playoff game.
And to get here to the final game is really something special that we're real proud of them both.
Well, thank you so much.
Enjoy the rest of the game.
Dave, back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Lisa.
You Dick, it's got to be exciting for Aleppo, a team that again, had won a region game.
I mean, they've been in the playoffs several times.
They are a state game, rather, just haven't been able to get over that hump it boy they win.
They did it this year.
They did it right.
It went girls basketball.
So it's been pretty storied like the ABC's astounded by the statistic that they never won the state playoff game.
Absolutely.
You know sometimes just random luck will get you a victory one year after getting out this last year.
Lost in the first round against Osman, finished the year 20th seven to points for the Lady Trojans.
It was that boy King again.
I think it was eight points for charisma.
BOYKIN He continues to fire away here in this first half.
Alyssa Jones curling, just pounding away.
That was a weaver again, twice in this postseason, over 30 points.
Now.
BOYKINS Playing Reaver.
Yep.
So far.
Dale, Let's just set it perfect for her to get it loose for an open look.
She goes right inside.
So that's Carrie.
Nice.
Nicely done by Jasmine Garrett.
Now, might be part of that game plan there.
Again, Kyrie good inside out attack obviously with Kyrie and weave and that's what we've been told to look for this ballclub that was nearly knocked away.
You know we talked about Carlton's just two losses there both of them coming two semifinal teams LIFO and the region Championship and Baldwin a team that of course L.A. beat last night.
It was almost a another rematch there with Carrollton and Baldwin.
The Baldwin Gray events.
That's right.
And that's the lady great oak grave expert, next.
All all a tough shot right there.
A little off balance for Alyssa Jones, and that will fall out of there with it.
He while with those three losses on the year no triple away losses this year they lost to northwest with to the forest field the lost to Gordon leaves the single-A and a team out of Tennessee McMinn Central pretty big high school here it's a public high school yeah yeah that was the first returning to play.
There's A Nice Turn Around by Michelle Morgan, who had one of those while ago.
Morgan is the quiet one.
She averages nine points a game, but she's obviously pivotal of the team with those nine points traveling with to be called up on Boykin right there little uncertainty.
You know we took we we're going to talk a lot about Kayla Weaver and Jasmine Curry combined for 40 points a game.
But you got to remember that Morgan has her nine and McKenzie has her ten points per game.
Actually, McKenzie in the fourth right back down on the other end and open look for Weaver puts up the shot won't go, but it will stay with the lady warrior whose last touch by Carrollton.
This game is this game remains this close.
She's going to have to capitalize on the open looks over here at the way.
Yeah, taking over nicely Danbury winners inside and two points for Morgan Two more.
Looks like McKenzie may have got a hand on that ball, but Carrollton able to make it stick.
Look it inside.
Oh another nice look in there To Morgan two more for Michelle Morgan the five a junior.
She's got six approaching her average.
She's having a good game under a minute here in this first half 20 to 21 LIFO good ball game here tonight in this three eight girls GHC state championship.
Just trying to create a little bit of space with the dribble there drew a couple of defenders in it gave Boykin an open look from the corner.
Sure enough, that same that's the fourth time they've been wide open over there quickly converted the previous two three returning starters on this year LIFO team.
So they play very confidently.
They play like they're played together a while.
We know the Carrollton bench has a bargain side and once again, Morgan with two more in Allen Focus found something right inside there that's just Carolina's has found left side of the telephone defense Our folks found that answer passed from the right side three point ball game 7 seconds left Carrollton with one last chance to pull it in water.
Tie it up.
Jones puts up a tough shot, hits the road and it sounds nice job there, Alyssa Jones.
And it will count.
And that is a makes it a one point ballgame here at the break 24 to 23.
Lisa West is standing by with Coach Weaver.
Coach Weaver, it's an exciting close game.
One point beside, you know, between the two of you, any changes or anything you're going to do differently in the second half?
Well, hopefully we'll play our defense a little bit better.
We gave some easy looks and we don't normally give up that they're well-coached, better prepared than the last time for it.
So I think that might have hit some.
You know, just basically just we got to make some we missed a couple of easy buckets.
They did, too.
So it's pretty close match.
It is.
Thank you so much.
Good luck in the second half.
Dave, back to you.
All right, Thanks.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Your PBS station will have a one point ballgame here at the break as we get set for the second half.
Let's go courtside to Lisa.
We standing by with Coach Thomaston.
Lisa, Coach Tom has been in a very exciting first half.
What did you tell your girls in the locker room?
You know, for whatever reason, when they're getting off to a slow start in the past two or three games.
But we've continued to battle throughout all those games.
And, you know, if fighting all the way to the end and I told them this game should be no different than the rest of them, we got into some early foul trouble for whatever reason early in the game that's been causing the turnovers.
So I told you, settle down, relax, enjoy the game happen unless we understand.
All right, Coach, thank you so much.
Good luck in the second half.
Dave, back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Lisa.
And taking a look back at the first half of all we can show it was charisma.
Boykins supplying the firepower, getting loose on that left wing for a three.
She plays effectively inside and out there.
She is going inside throw on LIFO and it's been very nice interior passing that one to Michelle Morgan.
And then we see Morgan again on the left side, comes back to the right with a nice spin move.
And finally, Kayla Weaver here is only got six points.
There's beautiful past Morgan for a basket and we've got a one point game.
And by the way, how about that young coach, 220 wins.
Absolutely.
11 years for Coach Thomaston right there and 2020 indeed.
Certainly a very impressive number.
So here we go into the second half of the one point ballgame.
Dave Gardner, Dick Williams with you, Lisa Weiss courtside along with the rest of the GPB crew.
Wall to wall action as championship weekend continues right here on GPB.
And there is a bucket right here deflected shot by Cambridge winners and a good start for Carrollton in the second half as they go up one one of its first bucket of the night.
And a little more pressure here now from Carrollton.
Well, I think after hearing from Coach Thomaston, we could probably expect a little bit of that indeed, out of these lady Trojans here in the second half.
Now we've got Boykin playing Weaver.
That's going to put a little more pressure on the board and he's going to shatter it for at least the start of the second half.
And we've had 33 points last night in that win over Baldwin.
She's got six here to open up this third quarter.
So somewhat quiet there.
Indeed.
But you certainly can't take it for granted cause the moment you take your eye off of her and she tried to pop out to take that ball and Boykin broke it up very nicely done on the defensive side, really.
On the other end, the elephant got a hand on it defensively goes out of bounds and it will go back to the lady warriors, Ashley McKenzie with five points here on the night.
I'm going to look at the game Prince one time for lead change.
It's been a great game in off the inbound right there it goes.
The lady Trojans pick up a couple again, winners with two more.
So back to back buckets by winners here to open up this third quarter.
It's a three point Carrollton lead, but try to isolate Weaver.
There it is.
There's her low three point shot Walker Johnson was right on.
Yeah she was that was not a real cool and double dribble look like in the backcourt right there A little miscommunication between Ealy and Jones so it appeared and so the ball goes right back there left just like that.
I like Alicia Jones number 12 for Carrollton.
She's a she's a calm, cool, collected player.
And when knocked away, Boykin again got a hand.
And I tell you what number 22 is really been everywhere in this ball game for Carrollton offensively and defense and now coming out and taking on the challenge are taking on one of the state's better shooters the high scorer for the lady Warriors Jasmine Carey has really been a dominant player inside for this offense.
But tonight it's been Michelle Morgan, number 12 whose jersey they've found more often than not.
But those eight points there, there's Ashley McKenzie, who has also been very busy.
Simple exchange among the guards there waiting for Weaver to break.
But she's really covered by Morgan excuse me.
BOYKIN Madison Smith gets it off the carry now passes it off.
Let's restart that offense.
And this time Kayla Weaver will start it.
We were getting a5a senior trying to get open but can knock it away four point yeah she wants to pop out of the way but the boy can recover very quickly.
There's an open look right there though for Smith, who was unable to hit the bucket right there.
So nice job, really defensively all the way around by that Lady Trojan team.
And now maybe it's time for.
Correct for our photo look to run the offense through someone else knocked away good little spin move there Very athletic play by Alison Jones you were just talking about her now fresh you will I will I really she's kind of an unsung hero on this team.
But what what is refreshing to see is charisma, Boykins, defense.
She is just all over the case in this quarter, three point shot on the way would not go for winners kept alive though underneath it puts inside as billings gets the call now it's going to be two on Morgan two on Morgan first team foul of the second half for either club three point ballgame 521 to play here in this third quarter and the foul becomes like a turnover in this case with no skill.
And that's another good one short short on that one by Ely Carrollton 2007 lost in the quarter finals of course advancing to the state championship game right here and make it last year falling short to Kendrick state runner up and you know you talk about how hard it is to to win back to back championships it's it's hard to get back to this game period back to back and that's exactly what Milton's done this year.
A lot of talent that pass just a little too strong.
He's got to be able to control well and that last possession for you for four over four Jasmine Carroll was a lot control.
She took the long pass and she saw that basket look real big to her and she overshadowed it.
She tried to make it off the glass.
Raven Trammell, 25, You saw her in the last range of the screen, ends up in a double team.
They've got they've got Weaver pretty well bottled up for the moment, knocked away in Last touch by Weaver.
So another turnover forced forced by Boykin right there man unbelievable.
This is a team that forces a lot of turnovers.
They forced about 25 turnovers against Barbara Atlanta in round one was Spokane had 20 points in that ballgame and created a lot of those turnovers.
And also Alyssa Jones created about a dozen of them on her own.
It looks like we do have a time out on the floor right here.
Coach Thomas, who wants a 32nd timeout with 421 left in the third period, a three point ballgame.
Carrollton again up 27 to 24.
Just for complete coverage of the state GHC basketball championships to find out how to support sports programing on GPB, go to GPB dot org back slash basketball to learn more again GHC championship info and Jake, I know you're going to be logging on to that website here and I know the websites had tremendous traffic with the video streaming of these playoff games.
Apparently there's a real appetite for that out there and I think that's great.
Everybody is a multimedia platform these days.
Absolutely.
Jacob is right there, though, of course, have added a lot in the last year or so.
And they're going to look at it right there.
No field goals this quarter for ELF.
Oh, very uncharacteristic.
They've gone almost half the period without hitting anything from the field.
His defensive changes have just stymied the Warriors.
And the idea of having Boykin playing Weaver has really knocked play to Fort Oglethorpe off the offensive.
It meanwhile Carrollton with just four points of their own.
So certainly not necessarily tearing it up, but they do have to lean on the West right here.
LIFO hasn't hit a point.
Back in the second half again, it was 2423 at the break and is 2724 right now.
Here's Jasmine Carey outside working assistant.
You can tell that was the game plan coming in.
Charisma Boykin is going to be pinned to number five wherever she goes, but she's doing a fine job of it and a lot of ball.
Yep, she did back in the break away to Boykin on the other end lays it up nearly got a plus one situation right there but Boykin will go to the line and shoot a pair and that's just a great sequence all the way around.
By number 22, you'll see she gets pushed in the back and clip from the side they had to prevent the basket.
And this is going to be look like, oh, they made an intentional foul.
Oh, yes it was the push by Weaver in the back from behind.
So this is a costly penalty.
It's two free throws plus possession, ten points, four rebounds.
You saw it right there.
And Boykin will lock it down at this point in the second half.
She's got 11 foul by Madison Smith.
Her second second one on the way by Boykin misses that one.
Could this be like their game in the class for been there once come back and win it Coach Thompson going to bring his team over but step aside take a break with him 2824 Carrollton leads it back with the rest of the third quarter when we return, live to the Macon Cineplex.
The moment I see the pair of free throws.
Number 11 say Louis in the lineup.
Also 22 to name Merritt.
And they're even pressing here because this is what they do.
Jasmine Thomas, 23, also in the lineup last shot caught and that in the cellar liberation is on 7967 the final Kendrick your 2008 triple A girls a lot of talk coming in about this lately Fort Oglethorpe outside game but so far the Carrollton lady Trojans who have put the clamps on and they lead it by four 2824 here with 349 left here in this third period.
Dave Gardner, Dick Williams with you.
Lisa Wiz courtside along with the rest of the GPB crew in a good ball game here tonight.
It's going back and forth, a lot of lead changes and that's what you like to see in a championship game.
These next 2 minutes will be critical for the lake.
Like the Fort Oglethorpe Lady Warriors, Taylor Lewis did not score in the third period.
And I think that just symbolizes why Carrollton has taken the lead.
I wonder if the last time she went suffered a scoreless quarter.
We don't have those records, but that doesn't happen very often.
You can bet on that.
And that because of the defense field goals right there, Carrollton, 12 of 28.
LIFO ten of 24, not brilliant shooting by either side.
No, but pretty close statistically.
And it hits the closest on the scoreboard right here.
Four point game.
Boykin is certainly stepped up huge here tonight and she's done pretty much all year long.
Certainly no surprise that shot a little bit short.
And it looks like we got a whistle and a foul.
It's going to go against Carrollton for the go against Winters.
It looks like it's shaping up to be one of these games where every possession is solid for.
Yes.
And those little four and five foot open shots that are missed, those are just Jack Jones, Jasmine Carey, the six footer handling the ball and had it taken away.
Melissa Jones inside tough shot would not go no whistle there.
Ely, of course, hit the deck, but Ashley McKenzie out of there with it for 11 on the other side.
That shot wouldn't go by.
MCKENZIE Now, of course, in the lane that was going to go against travel, that's Ashley McKenzie driving through there.
And then the tussle for the rebound between Jasmine Carey and the foul as she tried to recover the ball Lisa.
Lisa Wiese tells us that during that time out, Coach Weaver told his LIFO girls beneath the ball, when they get the ball, bring it back to the inside quickly.
But we thought they weren't penetrating beyond the arc here in this situation.
Wants them to go quickly to the basket.
He calls the play.
It's called the thumbs down play.
Just two team fouls apiece here in the third period, that one off the glass wouldn't go for Kyrie.
That's the other way.
Kelsey doing is doing a great job on the boards for the Carolina team.
Oh look at Boykin throwing that ball up right there.
Knew she was going to draw the contact, kind of twisted her body right there to give herself.
At least a chance at a three point play.
But she will go to the line nonetheless.
So Boykin, back at the stripe here, knocks down the first one that's going to be two on Jasmine cheering Coach Thompson's team up by five.
And you see Boykins numbers 12 points, four rebounds and two assists, knocks down point number 13.
Big game for Boykin, 30, 24, largest lead of the night for the Lady Trojans.
They lead it by six after McKenzie is bringing a different dimension against that freshman going five three that screen and I think she she forced out the screen right there how about that back the other way and that one's going to go against Madison Smith.
I tell you what, Boykin is fighting for that scratch all the way through kicks, some screens and everything.
Well, I guess I guess the foul was called because Madison Smith moved seven three.
Yeah, seven run by Carroll to this quarter.
But boy, control is going to determine the fight through that screen to get to Weaver and that was going to be offensive back the other way Nice job by McKenzie to hold her ground.
She has taken a few here tonight.
Oh, there it is.
She had possession all the way.
And that Boykin is an aggressive player.
Here she comes.
In number four, Ashley McKenzie courageously taking charge.
The question, I guess, for one side of things would be, did she strip a little bit to her left and she took care of that?
Yeah, well, a part of that might have been two point is momentum going forward as well, the way she did kind of going into there.
What's interesting that Coach Weaver told us goes get the ball inside because they were trapped out here at the arc and beyond for virtually most of the third quarter off the inbound.
McKenzie trying to swing it back out.
Weaver hasn't been able to touch the ball much in this third quarter, but she certainly can't spot up to shoot the way Hawkins playing.
She's got to have a clear school and they kind of keep Hawkins from fighting through there.
Those three point shot on the way, that one off the backboard, the shot had a lot of room to shoot the ball here tonight.
There's a good look by Weaver back to her, puts up the shot won't go so even when she has the opportunity, she's really having to rush her shot.
Well, she got the ball in a tight spot on the baseline.
She made a nice pass the other side and it came back and found her.
But it wasn't there.
Three point shot on the other side of High Archer, but it wouldn't go for Jones if she misses it right foot trying to cut into that six point lead just a two possession game still with a little over a minute left in this third period.
But either way, this thing's not going to be decided until we hit the fourth quarter.
And probably the end of it, no question.
Good.
Nice pass.
Nice pass by Weaver.
Almost too good a pass.
Well, here.
Couldn't handle the pass there though.
He it off her leg and out of bounds.
But coach, when louvers adjusted so quickly there there were pins out there about that very aggressive man to man defense.
Now he's hiding Taylor Weaver in different spots and having a cut to open space.
There was a one 4438 in the region championship.
Both teams play in the same region, but they did not meet during the regular season because they do have subregions at six triple A four sport Oglethorpe out of South Bay and Carrollton out of speed and you see the flip back and run.
Wow, what a job Kelsey Billings number 30 chance for a three point play.
She's having a really good game especially on the glass.
We have five team fouls now on LIFO, which is 33 seconds left here in the quarter.
This is the free throw, unable to complete the three point play right there and now a whistle going to go against Carrollton.
It looks like that might be the third on healing, which initially has been one of the leaders.
But she's been somewhat quiet here tonight averaging 17 just three points on the floor.
Well, you know, it's probably a situation where both teams that they knew they had to pick that that key player on both sides to try to shut down.
As you see a drought here by 11.
Their last field goal was with 52 seconds left before the half.
Wow.
Oh, my goodness.
That's a that's more than 8 minutes.
Kayla Weaver, two for 11 from the field And as she goes so goes like the four over thought she's having one of those nightmares shooting that three point shot by McKenzie is off the block would not one and out dealing with the rebound back the other way kicks it ahead to Jones who puts up a nice little pass there inside Wow what a nice job back in it of drillers.
And Carlton has opened up a ten point lead at the end of the third to the fourth quarter.
We go crazy.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station on where they're going to look at the girls triple-A state champions since 2000.
Gainesville on that list three times.
Hephzibah Avondale is talking grit, making up the last four, and Carrollton and LFO trying to stencil their name onto that list as well.
You know, when you look at these lists and we see a team with four, two or three consecutive state titles, you know, Gainesville coach Nancy Kennedy had Tasha Butts in those years for those state championships.
She went on to a great career and here into the fourth quarter, Carrollton is open up a ten point lead.
It did so with quarter run 11 oh quarter LIFO did not score a point.
And at third period, talk about uncharacteristic averaging 64 points a game offensively.
It's amazing that Kayla Weaver didn't even score much less the entire lady Warrior team back home.
That's true.
That's a nightmare.
That's one that just we sleep over in the future.
The score is third quarter for the team.
And so came a rebound and again, there's two for 11 shooting.
As the stretch was over, she shoots 42.9 for three for the season.
How much of a factor here tonight credit Charisma Boykin for that Boykin you know her 13 points has been a lot offensively obviously to this Carrollton team.
But I think effort defensively against Kayla Weaver has meant even more this week tells us that during the quarter Drake Sean Alexander another steal this one Melissa Jones lays it up to the finish out of bounds defense for the defense of Jasmine Carey overrode that shot for Alyssa Jones but anyway Sean Thompson the the coach at Carrollton, told his girls that he had to they had to double team came out really on every possession and he wants a locked up and he wants them to stick to their game plan.
But that's what's happening whenever they try to score.
For Kayla Weaver and other defenders jumping in there, you look at the road to this championship game for Carrollton was defeated Palmyra Atlanta in round one 5536.
Chastity in round two, Columbia in round three, just a two point game there with of course, last night, 67 to 51.
Now that close game there in double overtime against Colombia.
Ealy had 20 in that game.
Boykin was 16.
The Lakeview scoring drought is 9 minutes and 38 seconds.
Unbelievable.
652 left in the second half.
Wow yeah look at Michelle Morgan fouled on her way to the hoop but still not out of it.
I mean that's the thing.
There's still 7 minutes left and if any team could rip off ten points real quick, it's this lady.
What?
You're me.
These next 2 to 3 minutes are just absolutely critical.
Make a couple of scenarios here.
You make it an eight point game, you get a couple of threes.
You got a ball game, the crowd will get energized and strange things can happen.
MORGAN With eight points and a pair of rebounds, the junior again, five foot eight this time the first.
And those are certainly the ones you got to hit right there.
You see Coach Thomaston in his 11th season looking for that first state championship.
MORGAN Second one is on the way.
And it's good first point for Morgan here in the second half, full court pressure coming hard, easily broken easily.
BOYKIN Yeah, you're absolutely right.
Here is the point.
Yeah.
Alicia Jones, What a game.
She's live at that jump start games.
She's here.
Oh, that's a sweet right there.
Oh, my goodness.
Zone.
But just four points.
But she has been probably the most active player on the floor here as an all reporting.
So I guess now we can say that 94 Douglas ever scored one point in 10 minutes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
With that last free throw right there.
Just look inside and that one off the board right there.
Nice job.
Jackie Shattuck, number 34 with her first points of the night, a five age sophomore who averages a little over eight points a game Crosscourt right there, Carrollton showing a lot of patience obviously no shot clock and high school basketball.
All three point shots off the mark would not go.
But the follow is there great position for Billy Sandilands stepping up every time down almost 3827 11 point lead here with just under 6 minutes to play that shot is off the mark.
It wouldn't go that time She screamed it took it to her lap, saw the opening blocked shot rather awkwardly, I'm afraid three point shot from the corner.
It's there.
Jenny Lee, who's been very quiet, average of 17 points a game.
She's been very quiet and that's one of those dagger shots that puts a slump on the opposing team that was traveling right there.
Morgan took a step.
I'll tell you what, Haley might be quiet here tonight, but that last three point shot got that loud Carrollton fan base on their feet.
And there are groups of people in red behind it who fought over to the bench sitting on their hands at the moment.
4127, time out on the floor.
It's a full time out as you take a look at the Alamo Road in the state championship where they defeated Saint Bison round one 4743 tied ball game right there.
Stephenson 7559 Dunwoody Of course that three point thriller that came right down to the very end and of course last night ran away with it a little bit over.
BALDWIN And both these teams, of course, coming off of semifinal appearances last night right here in this building.
And right back at the state championship here on a Saturday night that the quarter and five a girls get a day in between.
But to make this thing work, they have to go back to back.
But we hope you're enjoying our live broadcast of the best in Georgia high school basketball.
And we ask that you stay tuned after the game for your opportunity to become a member of the Georgia Public Broadcasting Family.
Remember, it's viewers like you that help make great local programs like this possible.
And we thank you for supporting Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Remember, become a member today.
Here you get a look at Charisma Boykin with 13 points here tonight.
Certainly want to encourage folks who enjoy watching these state championships.
Please, let's make sure we keep it on the air.
Let's keep the programing on the air.
Log on, become a member at GPB Power, picking the Dave Garner star player of the game who is sixth in the slot to show it would be charisma Boykin because of what she's done on both ends.
But I certainly like a lot of the 12 Melissa Jones because she's doing a great job here tonight, is really create a lot of turnover.
She's one of those players that you really look to defensively more than anything.
As Weaver gets a hands on who you know at this time of the game.
Vick Usually I'm looking down on my score sheets and it's looking pretty busy.
But I'll be honest with you, even Carrollton, you know, just 41 points here tonight.
Well, shy of their average, but they've done enough, but not a lot of scoring here in the second half of teams, especially LIFO.
This is all about locked down defense.
They're really playing aggressively on defense.
Oh, nice look right there by Easley to keep it alive.
And remember, LIFO did break the scoreless three, but they still haven't had a field goal.
It's just one free throw that they had a minute or so back to Michelle Morgan.
They still have not had a field goal since 52 seconds left in the second quarter and we're almost halfway through the fourth.
And you can be sure that the followers of like three or four of the four have never seen a slump like this one since two too much in the first half that they've never seen anything quite like that at all.
They seem stunned over there.
Thanks.
I just stand corrected.
Jackie Shattuck did have that one after the free throw right there that just a moment ago.
But yeah, still well over nine and a half minutes.
But the key people are not getting it looks at the basket for like three four over four.
Kayla Weaver had her six early on and has been quiet since she was able to penetrate but couldn't finish awkwardly.
Went up to Hayes 4227.
Again, it was just a one point game at the break in favor of LIFO Slap three by Kayla Weaver, but then the foul and negates the good defensive effort.
Fouls on Matt Smith and she falls out five.
They're on Madison Smith as you see her over on the bench right there walking away again Smith the five for junior back again next season for Coach Weaver in this LIFO team and at least she'll get a chance to kind of erase the memories of this performance shot.
This is in and out there by Jones from the Stripe as we near the four minute mark in a rematch from the region six championship game this year.
Powerful has not lost to a triple AA team all year long.
Walked Hilton with just two losses total one of those that region title game.
And you know like Lisa mentioned up top here tonight it might be a situation where that might have fueled the fire for this Carol team and maybe gave them a little extra momentum.
There's two more for Billings after Mackenzie hit a beautiful pass.
The other side of the hoop for Barnes, although a miscommunication there.
I think Mackenzie thought Weaver was going to cut Backdoor there.
It sure looked it went one way and the pass with the other right into the hands of Boykin.
And now this Carrollton team really can be patient in the situation you they pulled out of the kind of the delay offense it's not a four corners but it's it's a patient offense that avoids the double team foul on Weaver.
Weaver has fouls to give and she's going to start fouling now with 319 left Geraldton in the bonus second half scoring Carrollton 21, Lakeview four, Oglethorpe three.
It's a nightmare on Elm Street.
I was going to say yesterday was Friday the 13th, but both teams survive that to survive the 13th, so maybe we could look ahead to more as Ides of March.
Yeah, which we should all be aware that look back, Coach Weaver pretty much says it all right here.
Some are still not over with, but LIFO is going to have to start finds the points here in a hurry that went out of bounds and right back to Carrollton.
They are just flummoxed by the high pressure on the ball outside Boykin and Alyssa Jones all hands out their three on one numbers the other way to roll.
Not there goes with a foot back, gets it to roll.
Joseph goes Well boy, who's playing defense Jones And those are supplying the offense well billings and winners really complement EALY Well it's not usually it is that they coach players most of the time but you've got really a three headed monster, if you will, down there with Billings and winners.
And here's Weaver trying to just make something happen, get free step up and the finally got to roll that is Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe second field goal in the last 9 minutes.
Wow.
The first points for Weaver since the first half, 4629 fouls on Jackie Shattuck.
That's ten deep foul.
So double bonus here for the lady Trojans will shoot two the rest of the way with 223 to go.
The score is not a reflection of the abilities of these two teams because they've proven that during the season.
This is just one of those nightmares you walk into where nothing falls for you and no passes.
Christian Jamboree winners with five points, all here in the second half.
In a time out on the floor with 223 to go, it's an 18 point ballgame right here.
Lady Trojans have steadily pulled away since the break, trailed by one at halftime and have never looked back, though, after that.
You see, of course, coming up a little bit later on here tonight, the final game of the weekend right here on GPB.
It's the triple-A Boys State championship between Westover and South Atlanta, 29 and six West taking on 28 and three.
South.
Atlanta is great teams nationwide.
This year.
And boy, that's going to be an exciting game there.
You and I will get our first look at Derrick Favors, the Naismith National High School Player of the Year.
Here's a look at results from yesterday.
The GHC wheelchair basketball championship.
It was the Atlanta Wolfpack over the West, Georgia Wolverines, Southwest, a cab over Fayette County.
The 40 Girls championship for boys belong to Miller Grove, who upended Tucker 5931 and of course, five eight Girls Action saw Redan capture their title over Marietta, 6445 Boys Action.
It was Wheeler 353 over Milton again that last night at the Arena Gwinnett Center.
Earlier today, Wesleyan captured their sixth title in eight years over Savannah Country Day in the single girls title Single Boys.
It was Whitfield Academy over Turner County a little while ago, 6953 for a girls championship, saw Buford over model 66 to 35 today in the Make It Center flex.
And a little while ago it was Dublin 7964 over Blessed Trinity that game prior to this one right here.
So again nine down and almost ten down.
And one more to go here tonight as part of championship weekend here on GPB.
And in the meantime, while you're reading the results, it was yet another turnover to Carrollton and Alicia Jones was then quickly found.
She was at the line Jones knocking it down one of two on that trip 4829.
As we hit the double up wave to see they're almost there.
The trickle up rebound that there were.
Well, they realize right now that if Ella four is going to come back in this game, it's going to have to come out of the hands of Kayla Weaver.
And they figure their chances are good, even they have to leave someone else open to do it.
Well, I'm afraid to say this for like four over four, but they're going to have to set a world record for three, is going to get back on this with a minute.
52 left belongs on the boards again.
You know, it's not just one of those things where it's just been Weaver or what have you.
I mean, they've had some open looks.
They just hadn't been able get them to go.
But Geraldton's defensive effort tonight has just, just been remarkable.
You know, I'm this is the kind of offense where they're not playing to shoot.
They're playing in Keep Away, and so far so good.
Foul on Jasmine Carey.
Well, they're up.
Yeah, exactly what they wanted to accomplish right.
They want to go anywhere near the basket unless it was just absolutely wide open.
I'll be shooting free throws the rest of the way.
Exactly.
So again, allowing just 31 points a game this year is Carrollton.
They've only given up 29 here so far tonight.
So they're on pace to do that.
But you don't you don't expect the team realistically to do that in the state championship.
And that just shows how dominant has been, you.
It's like it's like in the NBA to just could have a rotten night and you write it off.
But when you have the worst night of the season in the state championship, you're just you're just miserable.
But it's time for Carrollton to celebrate.
Coach Sean Thompson clears the bench.
The players whose names we've been calling all evening go to the bench.
Morgan McDonald into the lineup.
Meghan Parker, a freshman.
We'll see some playing time right here, along with Benicia Brey, another freshman number 30.
Awesome in the ball game right there for the Lady Trojans taken away right here.
Katie Turner in there.
Keep away in the second half, scoring right here.
And that pretty much says it.
Carrollton, 23 in the first half, 26 in the second half and with 24.
And then it almost looks like a misprint right there.
But that is correct.
Five points in the second half.
As all you know, this ball problem has never school this few points for how to score a score.
All you can do is just say the roll turned upside down and it's time.
Lisa Gray records her name on the scoreboard.
She becomes the seventh different Lady Trojan to score here tonight.
The second one on the way, Miss, is that one.
I think she was little excited.
Sure.
Well, all these freshmen in the game, the coach's job is getting them some experience in this big spotlight to statewide television and making them really want to come back here another time.
Kayla Weaver with the basketball headed to Kennesaw State lost the mark.
Right there was Ashley McKenzie, a senior.
Justin Evans.
Justin Evans, hey, a senior playing her final ball game as well for LIFO.
Certainly nothing to be ashamed of here tonight as they keep their heads high.
But this night has belonged to Carrollton, especially the second half when Taylor Weaver, who averages 21.6 a game, gets to Kennesaw State and gets a couple of hoops under her belt.
I think she's in recovery from this this evening in Macon, Georgia, all smiles on that Carrollton bench as Morgan McDonald becomes the eighth different Lady Trojan to score with that last free throw the five for freshman And what a thrill for some of these younger players to get a chance to step out here on the floor in this title game turnaround right there by Ashley McKenzie.
And that's her first points of the second half.
That was the kind of play we thought we'd see tonight.
We saw right there.
And it will be a basketball pick.
I tell you, I've enjoyed it's been a fun weekend right here.
I've enjoyed working with you, partner.
And get your hands on it.
We'll go to Gwinnett Braves game Sunday, Sunday.
How about after?
And we will talk basketball back on the other end and we kick it away.
Time down to 11 seconds right here.
I want to say hi to our entire GPB crew, those especially those handheld camera guys.
I mean, they've gotten it done.
That is hard work on the camera all weekend long.
You got to go before they have been on everything.
Reality guys, this is a this is a big time television production.
Everybody, as soon as the Georgia playoff goes down, maybe the announcers could also work for the blues.
Got their act together.
I mean, other than that one knocked away from Seattle, 2 seconds left and that will do it 5141 the final and the Carrolton lady Trojans after coming up just short last year captured the 2009 GAAP.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting your PBS station on and the celebration is on for the Carrollton Lady Trojans year 2009 GHC Class three eight girls state champions Let's go courtside to Lisa we standing by with the victorious coach Lisa Coach Thomaston Congratulations.
I know this is exciting.
Carrollton High School has its first ever basketball state title.
Yes.
Yes, ma'am.
I mean, I have to give it up to my kids mirror Relentless.
You know, at halftime, I told you, we started out slow the past two or three ballgames, but we've actually gotten it together at halftime and regrouped in some way and found a way to support these games out is nothing but the first class young ladies being willing to do whatever their asked, whatever's being asked by their coach, you know, great community, a lot of support up here.
I mean, there's no way we're going to let these people down tonight.
So my kids played awesome.
Thank you so much.
Enjoy this win with me.
Dave, back to you.
All right.
Thank you, Lisa.
The lady Trojans avenge a loss in the region, championship turnaround and capture the state championship.
That's going to wrap things up for our entire JB crew.
For Lisa, we stick Williams I'm Dave Gardner saying so long, three boys coming up here in a few minutes.
