And good evening, everyone.
It's the Class three Girls state championship game tonight from the Macon Coliseum featuring the Panthers of Carver Atlanta and the Lady Eagles of Columbia, Dave Cohen, along with Dick Williams courtside here at the Macon Coliseum.
And Dick, again, looking forward to a great ball game.
Both of these teams, they've reached the finals.
They've each won 27 ballgames coming in and one of them going to lead with a title tonight.
And as we're going to tell you a little bit later on, they're very familiar with each other, key players tonight for Columbia.
We're talking about Akeelah McDonald, and she's a big six for senior center, nine points, eight rebounds a game.
This is a team that doesn't have a dominant scorer, but a Keenan McDonald is the wheel around around which it revolves.
Look at those blocked shots.
2.6 per game for Akeelah McDonald.
Starting lineups tonight for Columbia Destiny Smith are going to run three guards, Destiny Smith, Latifah, White and the sophomore Zuri Frost.
And up front, Jemima Ashby and Akila McDonald.
So a couple of seniors on that front line tonight for the Columbia.
And right now, a quick comment from their head coach on tape.
FROST Well, it means a lot.
This is the first time that Columbia High School has made it to the state playoffs.
So it's history making for both the boys and the girl.
So it means a lot to the girls, A history making event for us and for Carver.
They come in again out of Region five.
They've won 27 ballgames.
Again, no other team.
You see these teams, a lot of seniors, a lot of you know experience to get them here to the finals.
And I think Carver is kind of a mirror image of Columbia.
Carver is not used to being here, for one thing, and they also revolve around their post player and that is Quinn, Tory Alford, Quinn Tory Offord, who's a senior and not a big scorer, but she's dominant on the glass and she'll be battling Makayla on the on the glass all evening.
Look at those rebounds over ten rebounds a ballgame starting lineups for Carver for tonight's ball game here in Macon.
Brandi Wilkey and Manisha Womble in the back court.
And then up front, they're going to go with Brittany Howard, Quentin Quinn, Tori Alford and it MCCORRY Forman.
And in his first year as the head basketball coach of Carver in Atlanta, Cedric King, Again, it means a lot.
For the first time in Culver's history, the girls team has made it to the Final Four and made it to the state final.
So it means the world to our community for us to be here.
So again, it's a matchup of Columbia High School and Carver, Atlanta.
And right now we'll get the starting lineup from the public address.
ANNOUNCER Here at the Macon Coliseum, Georgia High School Association class triple-A Girls State Championship.
Tonight's game will have the Columbia Lady Eagles with a record of 26 wins and freelances dressed in orange as your visitors on the scoreboard.
And the Carver Atlanta Lady Panthers record of 27 wins and five losses dressed in white as your home team now have your attention for the starting lineup.
First for Columbia at guard number five, a five foot eight.
Gerald Destiny Smith, a forward number 21, a five foot six senior, a lucky foul, one guard, number 23, a five foot four sophomore, very first at forward number 35 foot eight.
Senior Jamari Moore Ashby at center number 32, a six foot four.
Senior Akilah MacDonald and Columbia's head coach Ken de France.
And now for your Culver Lady Panthers at guard number one, a five foot one southpaw, Brandi Wilkie at guard number 11, a five foot ten freshman, Monisha Warfield at guard number 33, a five foot ten senior Brittany Howard at forward number 55 foot ten senior, calling for one at center number 45, the six foot two senior Quinn Tory at 30, and Carver's head coach, Cedric Payne.
Coming up, it's the girls three a state championship game here in Macon.
And we're back with the opening tip off right after this season.
GPB Sports.
Yes.
Let's get started.
Let's get started.
Let's add some folks suggest that after watching Jon Nelson handle the rock on the camera today, that we need to send him to summer basketball camp, use some of the money for that.
But we're not going to every dollar is going to high school sports.
I still don't know how you do this, but thanks for watching.

This thing is practically bone.
That's it.

That'd be crazy.
So don't do it here, Sportsmanship.
It's up to you.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, serving all of Georgia.
And welcome back.
It's the girls three eight championship game tonight from the Macon Coliseum here in Macon, working the sidelines for us tonight, more of our pregame.
We send it courtside to Eric Hunter.
Eric.
Hey, Dave.
Anyone who doesn't believe that Region five was the strongest region in triple-A this year, well, they've got to be nuts because both of these teams are from Region five.
Columbia leads the season series two games to one after beating Carver in the region finals.
So tonight will the Panthers even the series it two and and take home the big trophy or will it be Columbia taking home their first state title.
Come on guys what are you waiting for?
Let's get this thing started.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Eric.
Again, as he said, both out of the region, five, eight, and the officials tonight are Willie Crosby, the crew chiefs Jeff McNichol and Kevin Self.
Jeff and Kevin are from the Multi-County Officials Association Center around Gwinnett County.
So we're set for the Class three, a state title, the Carver Lady Panthers in White Columbia, Lady Eagles in Orange.
The tip is up and it's going to be right out of bounds and it will be Carver Atlanta basketball.
You noticed on that opening tip, Dave, those are two big girls on the post and that's that's what got each of these teams to this place at the state championship game.
Yep.
McDonald, the six four senior, and Quinn Tory offered a six to senior.
So you're right.
A lot of a lot of strong post play for both of these basketball teams and get them here on the road to make it.
And neither one has a really dominant scorer.
We're not going to see anything like we saw from Andrea Carver in the Double-A Girls final that was won by Buford right away.
They're going to go right inside almost to try to go inside, offered instead, it will end up out on the wing jumper put up there by Brittany Howard is short and the rebound brought down by Columbia quickly down the other end.
Jerry Frost tries to go coast to coast Ball ends up being deflected out of bounds.
It'll be Columbia basketball three four and she was just too small to run against such a large defender.
The inbounds pass to Jemima Ashby she pulls up jumper good from about ten feet up and Columbia has the early lead and the full court press here finally breaks that easily into the front court.
Manisha Womble back out front Wilkie drive it and baseline the shot is up it is short there by Howard and on the rebound and the step back Carver ties the ballgame Columbia back into the front court into the corner Ashby her pass deflected and stolen the Cory Forman steps into the passing lane comes up with a steal front court Wilkie Forman a quick touch back to Wilkie over to Howard.
They'll try to get it into the post they well the turnaround shot there by Alfred is no good may have been partially blocked by 32 at Keelan McDonald and Columbia quickly back in the other direction.
Front court Destiny Smith, Baseline Latifah, White and the shot may have been partially blocked in effect deflect it out of bounds back entry offered and it will stay with Columbia a risky play.
She was vertical and she reached out with a right arm and swatted it no foul called not that there was contact, but it ended up in a team block six and a half to go here in the opening quarter inbounds looking into McDonnell lobs it back out front to white Here's a three from the way shot us up no good there by frost long rebound comes out to Smith Destini Smith she'll fire up a three intercepted is good from the left wing Destiny Smith hits her first field goal pretty good three point shooter 69 to 43 beyond the three point line coming in to make it and it's a52 lead for Columbia long three up on the wing there by Carver Atlanta's shot put up there by Womble no good we got a whistle and a foul underneath as they battle for the rebound.
Give me a foul on Columbia Melissa Womble number 11, to give you an idea, it was the team's leading scorer with only 13 points per game in.
Yeah.
As you look at the Carver uniforms, you might be a bit confused it says and see Lady Panthers and that's because in Carver's long storied history it hit a period of decline in the Atlanta school system, decided to reinvent it, and it was divided into several small academies.
And they're called the New School of Cotton Schools.
And Carver offered Nixon Bowl for the senior has her first points, makes it a one point ballgame.
Columbia up five four.
Try to get it into the post to McDonald's to lob it back out front.
Destini Smith They'll get it over to Frost Long three no good The rebound brought down by Howard and she'll get that ball ahead to Wilkie.
They'll bring it into the front door.
There's a lob into the post when Dory offered a baseline jumper off the front of the window.
Gordon rebound brought down by Forman off on the wing the jumper there by Brittany Howard is up and it is good though the senior has her first points and it's Carver now by 165 What a wrap up they're going to call a traveling violation They're on speed.
It's tough to tell whether she actually had possession of the basketball Here you see first year head coach Cedric Tin, first time in history that Carver Atlanta has reached the state finals and they do it in his first season.
Wow.
So we don't really have a career record to talk about with him.
We have no tendencies, no career record, no play offs.
And there's a battle of the two post players right there, forming a nice feed to Alford, and the shot was deflected or blocked out of bounds by a killer.
McDonald She anchors that defense.
That's six four underneath the basket, the inbound.
So command offered ball again deflected out of bounds off the hands there of Ashby.
There's this tough corner inbound in the lineup and double post to try and get the ball and against the zone as Columbia on the inbounds is going to be Howard and a Womble bounce pass effort They go baseline and they get a lot of it back through the middle Womble ends up with a loose ball I'm going to call it traveling violations.
It was McCoy form and was trying to get something going down in the right baseline or pass out front ends up in a traveling violation.
I'm going to look for Columbia to find the killer McDonald download, and now she's out on a high post.
Instead, they take the three long three and it's going to sail out of bounds.
It'll be Carver, Atlanta Possession and Destiny Smith three.
He couldn't find the target barber Atlanta with the ball a one point lead and we got a timeout 452 to play first quarter Carver up by one back to the Macomb Coliseum after this the watching coverage right here on GPB.

Use the hashtag pound GPB final five and right now Carver Atlanta the one point lead with just under 5 minutes to play here in the first quarter it's a65 ballgame.
You know James I always forget how big state championship games are.
You and I were remarking during the previous game the number of college coaches here, Bobby Clemons, good to see him.
The former Georgia Tech coach, Anthony Grant.
You said the coach of Alabama.
Yup.
Former coach at VCU.
I'm sure there were some others that we missed.
Absolutely.
FORMAN Back out front, Womble Cross court, Wilkie up front again to the Corey Foreman trying to get to the post down low.
They get it and a match up there.
We get a traveling violation as well as a blocked shot there by McDonald.
Wolfe goes a block, but she was right there getting a hand on that ball.
On that turnaround shot, Quinn Troy offered, had no choice there.
She had to take and make her spin and make the move, and she traveled to doing so.
Boston to the frontcourt shot out of the corners up there.
It is no good by ASCII and got a foul underneath as they battle for the rebound it's going to be a foul against here you see the high asking shot.
Yes the palace on Alford she's stayed vertical and cleverly and Caleb McConnell kind of leaped up into her arms and drew the foul Sure get two throws.
So McDonald, the senior front end is up no good came into the game 57% from the free throw line we mentioned on the other end on that previous trip down in that match up on that turnaround by Alford she came in with 54 blocked shots just in the regular season substitution four for Carver.
Ryan Dorsey comes in and the leading scorer initial long ball goes out second free throw by McDonald is up and it is good and so now some full court pressure here by the Lady Eagles in the corner it'll be Bria Dorsey She's averaging 12 points two rebounds five seven junior guard long jump for three left wing is up good by Wilkie Andrew Wilkie with a nice three She's a little run but she's a tough in there.
I've been watching her set screens.
She's tiny but she does it well.
Harber, Atlanta, The three point lead on the wing, Columbia trying to get to the post down low.
I'm going to work that ball into Jemima Ashby.
She draws the double team gets rid of it back out front.
Jerry Frost Yeah Now nice entry.
Pass up off the glass shot.
No good.
And Forman with the rebound Corey Foreman pulls out another rebound rookie under the front court to Dorsey Here's a long three right side that shot put up there by Howard No good deflected out of bounds and it's going to be Columbia Lady Eagle possession 3 minutes 23 seconds make that 328 remaining here in the first quarter and again it will be Zoe Frost into the frontcourt.
She's a sophomore guard at five three and that pass from Destinee Smith.
They tried to go into the corner and a little bit too much on it.
Ball goes out of bounds.
It'll be a turnover on Columbia.
They'll bring some full court pressure the inbounds to Dorsey back to Foreman again Dorsey and Wilkins she comes across back comes across in the forecourt.
She turned around and lobbed it right back to Dorsey and that's it over and back and still that'll be a quick turnover there on Carver Atlanta, Columbia will get it right back.
And if you didn't see it, the tallest player on the floor, a feeling McDonald patted Brandy Wilkie on the top of the head, although a quick turnover on that pass into the corner.
Latifah White intended for McDonald, went right off the fingertips and out of bounds and so Carver Atlanta going to get it right back They have a three point lead 305 on a turning clock here first quarter Britney, Brittany Howard.
There you see the turnover situation Columbia with four, Carver with three so far the lob it right into the middle Foreman shot is up it is good now curry for him in the senior forward averaging six points eight rebounds on the board for the first time and it's a five point lead now for Carver Atlanta they lead the lead at 11 six.
I think both teams are a little nervous and the early going to seem to be settling down a little bit.
Frost attacks the basket shot no good offensive rebound step back Destini Smith is up and it is good good aggressive play around the hoop her second field goal she's got five and it's now a three point lead 11 eight jumper from the wing and it's no good the rebound frost drops what's up tempo pushing it up the floor, driving it all the way may have been deflected off her hands Out of bounds are going to say no I think she just tried to scoop it up and lost control of the game.
And so a turnover against Columbia, Atlanta, going to get it back.
They're going to make this cover.
Atlanta got to make a substitution as well.
Alexis Carter, a61 freshman, will check into the ball game to replace the for me the inbounds comes in and it's Wilkins pushing it into the frontcourt like a23 matchup zone here by the Lady Eagles Dorsey trying to get free over on the wing can't draws a double team they actually get gets shoved out of bounds There's a jumper by Wilkins straight away in and out No good offensive rebound brought down by Carter She gets wrapped up there by Frost and they're going to call it jump ball possession Arrow is going to favor Columbia another substitution back in the ballgame as many show Womble the freshman show it place Brandy Wilkins looking at the statute Womble has got to get going.
She's the second lead and she's the leading scorer on this team, averaging 13 a game thrust into the frontcourt, along with Destiny Smith.
Bring it into the corner.
That one going to come away back here and a collision here right in front of us.
Jerry Frost appears to be okay.
Julie Frost, we should note, is the daughter of a coach, Sean Tchaikovsky, and has a sister as well that plays on the team who's been hurt with an with an ACL injury but is playing.
We've got a timeout on the floor with 129 to go 32nd timeout so we'll keep it here at the Macon Coliseum.
So far, Destiny Smith with five to lead the way for Columbia and they've spread it around a little more for Carver Wilkie has hit a three point field goal when Tory offered a couple of free throws and then field goals each by Brittany Howard and MCCORRY forming the game scenario, as you and I saw, it is not playing out exactly the way I thought it would.
The two post players, Alford and McDonald, are offsetting each other with their respective strong defense, so they're not either one of them a factor on the offensive end.
And yeah, the dual state champion titles Columbia looking to join this list of young boys and girls teams won state title.
We've seen a couple here already today Wesleyan being the latest here's how it in the corner shot put up there by Womble no good they battle for the rebound the killer McDonald for Columbia comes up with it her outlet pass to Smith she gets wrapped up by Bria Dorsey they call jump ball possession arrow doing a favor Carver What a great defensive play by Bria Dorsey jumping in to get that help.
Ball Now Willie Crosby right there on the scene to make the call so Brittany Howard on the inbounds comes in to Dorsey back over to Howard quickly back into the hands of Dorsey trying to set something up in the low post box caught Womble and she's going to put up that shot long shot Dorsey in there battling for a rebound and finally comes up with the loose ball took it away from white driving back in blocked by McDonald on the way to the basket Nice little swipe by a killer McDonald that was nice and a much shorter player never had a chance here you can see on the replay the smaller player comes in feeling the foul just reaches over that left arm and swats it out of bounds.
A big smile from her.
We understand she's heading to the University of Central Florida.
Here's the inbounds to Dorsey Wing.
She'll pull up.
It's short offensive for a rebound rest not even a rebound here Picking up a loose ball was offered.
She goes right back up with a head fake.
She's got her first field goal for the game 13 eight Now barber Atlanta in the corner short jumper on the baseline is up it is good by Jemima Ashby her second field goal She's got four.
I like your mom Ashton's game gave she's seven just nine points four points a game She's a senior She's doing a lot of disruptive things on defense and she looks like she's got a nice stroke.
27 seconds to play here.
First quarter close ballgame, 1310 Carver Atlanta on top and inbounds looking in to Dorsey five seven Junior guard get it to Alford and it was stripped and stolen there by destiny Smith quickly into the front door and Dorsey comes back gets a hand on it Auto stolen Zuri Foster able to hold on boy she's in a lot of traffic right there and throws that ball intended for her teammate there Ebony Johnson the sophomore they threw it out of bounds.
She either fouled or traveled a rough.
All right.
Time for one last shot here for Atlanta.
7 seconds left.
Ball comes in play to Dorsey Dorsey back to Womble out on the wing.
And they do not get a shot off before the buzzer sounds.
And the first quarter is in the books here in Macon Carver, Atlanta 13, Columbia ten.
Back with more right after this.

And welcome back, Dave Cohen and dip Williams courtside here, the Macon Coliseum tonight, the class three eight girls state championship.
And right now, as we get set picks for the second quarter right now, Carver Atlanta, the three point lead.
Yes.
And Carver Leonard distributing the ball a little bit better than Columbia.
I guess we'll see if Columbia can make some adjustments to start the second quarter.
Destiny Smith The inbounds pass, it comes into jam.
Either Ashby out front, she'll have it all the way back up front.
Two very thought to three zone here by Carver Atlanta penetration dribble penetration there by Smith She leaves it off for MacDonnell We got a foul underneath and that's going to go on Bria Dorsey here you see the big player inside.
It's almost impossible not to foul a ball player that tall and that strong in the paint McDonnell one of two from the line so far tonight.
Good on that first one I noticed at the end of the first quarter, Dave McDonald talked to the three officials about perhaps being held a little bit underneath and so forth.
And then her coach came out and said the same thing.
Shante Frosh said the same thing, too.
Official One of the officials gesturing with her hands no good on the second free throw.
I think we had a lane violation there.
Indeed.
And so it will be there.
Shante Frost And she just asked the officials gently if they could watch the whole league and the grabbing inside in the paint.
Dorsey gets that ball into the frontcourt quickly.
To Brittany Howard, back into the hands of Dorsey.
She'll attack the basket.
She'll stop and fire.
A shot is up.
It is good screens.
It'll kick up your heels motion, but it works.
Four point lead for Carver Atlanta Destiny Smith in the corner and lob down low to McDonald her shot no good but again you've got to whistle and it's another foul on Carver Atlanta Nice entry pass there from the wing by Ebony Johnson into McDonald to me that's the route to go for Columbia against this kind of Atlanta zone Get that ball inside there to Akila McDonald and let her make something happen.
She was fouled twice at least, so she's right back at the free throw line and the front end is no good.
57% for a killer.
McDonald from the free throw line she already tonight a couple of points four rebounds and she's got three blocked shots three blocks.
That's impressive at this stage of the game.
And her second free throw looks really good.
So she's got her third point of the ballgame and it's a three point game again, Carver Atlanta on top 1512.
Dorsett over on the wing, the wobble man to man defense for Columbia.
You got caught in the lane tried to get a shot.
It was short Alford picked up a loose ball that shot no good and she chases down a loose ball, takes it away from Destiney Smith.
The Corey Foreman had a quick touchdown to get it back into the hands of Dorsey.
Dorsey driving in the lane, partially blocked there by McDonald.
That would be here for two steals the outlet underneath behind the back the shot is up and good and that is to Armstrong.
It shook his shots tonight.
Tiger Dorsey he's relentless going after the basketball in the quarter now Columbia three frost back out front two Smith with a frost again send it down low to McDonald They get out with the double team splits the double team goes right up and banks it off the glass.
That's the meal ticket I've taken and look for it every time.
Now that's the first field goal of the night.
You got five in the game.
I swear.
These kids have shot clocks in their heads, even though there are no shot clocks in high school basketball right underneath.
Dorsey leaves it for Quin Tori Alford, and she goes up, draws contact.
There's a foul see earlier here's Dorsey.
The split bell she split the defense in hustling back comes up with the loose ball watch this backwards She never saw the rim Yeah just throw it up over over stretch.
Yeah.
There she is.
She's still look, she couldn't see that rim.
Just tossed it up over something up there.
Pure court awareness.
Just knowing where you are, having a feel for where you are, even when you maybe don't know 100% where you are.
She knew she was right in and around the basket.
On the next possession, she threw this beautiful pass to Alford, which results in her getting to first, and she makes them both.
So she's got eight points and it's a 1914 Tarver Atlanta leaf into the front court Ebony Johnson gets around for her shot no good on the rebound that time is Jimmy Ashby right in the later shot in and out though with McDonnell offensive rebound the put back is good yeah this is the kid on the ground so in the early going here in the second quarter no question about it she's asserting herself at both ends he got to a seven it's a three point game again 1965 40 and a turning play ball knocked out of bounds.
Randy Wilkie, the sophomore point guard, has come back in the ball game.
Rookie generously listed in the program as five one he inbounds in the inbounds pass.
But really they dodged the bullet there because Dorsey was not the intended receiver and I got a foul going to be holding foul on 25 Ebony Johnson but we're nowhere near the bonus only two fouls against Columbia three against Carver second personal on Ebony Johnson third team foul on Columbia here in the first half 535 to play in the second quarter here checking back in for Columbia is 21 Latifah White inbounds comes in offer here's a match up feel pull up jumper is no good offensive rebound it was deflected back out front often had a hand on it was Forman was the one that originally came down with that offensive rebound couldn't hold on here's Frost back the other way into the frontcourt Crosscourt Destini Smith McDonald standing at the free throw line.
Good ball movement here by Columbia.
They'll leave it underneath for frost baseline turn around is no good.
Ball deflected out of bounds and I believe it's going to stay with Columbia point after our producer Doug since his daughter played on a youth team coached by Columbia's coach Shante Frost, and she tells me that Murray Frost was the ball girl on that team run around chasing the ball.
She was about five or six years old, some would say, as the point guard.
She's the ball girl right now, doing a lot of distribution.
That's right.
So her post player, she's got it right now, going to drive right to the basket shot up.
No good on the rebound.
Brittany Howard and the ball ended up in the hands of Ashby carbine the Ashby and she got stripped to the basketball But there's a foul to be a reaching and foul on Carver Atlanta it's on Brittany Howard and she Jerry Frost had no business chance so that thing up and notch amongst all the total threes but she's like you said she likes to distribute and go for it.
Ashby is 64% free throw shooter misses on that first attempt yet averaging a little over nine points, almost five rebounds and a second free throw she gets Well, roll on that one.
That's her fifth point of the night.
And it's a two point game cover up.
1974, Red shot a 5 minutes to play here.
Second quarter three of Dawson Cross court nearside.
The Wilkins rookie runs into a double team and loses the basketball It was deflected Latifah White's got it looking though comes back over playing the passing lane a little bit almost comes up with a steal She stepped in front of destiny Smith but it's going to stay with Columbia.
Got a time out 4 minutes and 41 seconds remaining here and it's a 1917 ballgame.
Carver on top.
Back after this.
You're watching coverage of the state finals right here on GPB.

This is cute and so I knew you wouldn't do it there.
So don't do it here.
Sportsmanship.
It's up to you.
Like they're the fashion police.
George Outdoors captures the elegance of nature and tells us the sometimes hidden stories of the land that's all around us.
Now, in HD, you'll be amazed at the natural beauty all around us.
Join us for Back to Back episodes March 24th at 8 p.m. here on GPB.
It's television worth watching.
You know, Dave, the girls and Boys basketball championship are just two of more than 20 events sanctioned by the High School Association.
GPB is proud to partner with the GHC, delivering live statewide coverage of every classification with people and communities throughout Georgia.
So we're back to action.
Latifah White gets that ball down on the baseline.
Here's McDonald through the lane.
Her jumper is up and as good a killer McDonald's third field goal nine in the ballgame And we are tied here at 19.
I like her game I think with some with some individual schoolwork.
She's going to be a fine college player.
Dorsey drives around, gets the first step around Destiny Smith Baseline, left side, takes it in off the glass.
Her third field goal she's come off the bench not a score 621 to 19 Carver on top again is a floater through the lane the shot no good rebound brought down by Wilkie for Carver Atlanta and a Panthers quickly turn it up feel the other direction Here's Foreman down on the other end baseline Nice feed from Dorsey McCoy Foreman finishes on the baseline layup Well done 2319 Quick follow on there by Carver Atlanta to reclaim the lead 131 zone for Carver Destiny Smith frontcourt Come over Ashby back to Smith get it down to frost on the baseline She broke free missed the layup down low of battle for the rebound going back up with it shot there by Fox No good We got a whistle and a foul and and it's going to go against Columbia I think it's against a feeling McDonald holding on that holding her defender off on that block boss Ted nice penetration I guess I was looking for her to leave it for McDonald down low.
Instead, she took the shot herself.
She's done that several times, trying to put that spin layup off off the glass with all the tall trees around her.
And it worked so far.
I would look for the tall target myself, but she's the coach's daughter.
She plays according to her mom's wishes.
So here's Wilkins to the front court for the Panthers.
Grimes, Dorsey, Dorsey will dribble, pick it out of the way for him and make that.
233 Brittany Howard gets caught in the double team there double teamed by Smith as well as Victoria Gonzalez who's coming out of the game a 510 sophomore forward who averages about four points and almost four rebounds.
And Killer McDonald getting a breather on the bench.
Here's Dorsey again.
Penetration lost the basketball Ashley Smith up with the loose ball there for Columbia with McDonald getting a break I wonder whom Columbia will go to just inside of 3 minutes.
It's going to be Gonzalez.
She's got it.
Having a tough time.
Get the shot blocked there by Alford Loose ball.
And the shot was put up again by white.
It was partially blocked as a battle for the loose ball on the floor, on the floor battling for it.
And the Cory Foreman and the Arrow points toward Carver of Atlanta, two teams in the same region, as you said earlier, that played three times splitting the regular season and Columbia topping the Carver Panthers in the region final.
Now, here they are again in the state final, 240 on a turning block.
Here's Dorsey dribbling right to the spot free throw line jumper off the rim no good and forced a point guard goes in gets the rebound she wants to push that ball up the floor in some traffic lost it Dorsey comes up with the steal Dorsey back the other way dribbling to the wing trying to get to the guy to get to the basket She got fouled I believe they'll call it on Smith it is it's a foul it's a blocking foul on destiny Smith 14 fouls apiece were ways away from the bombs That's her first personal game.
Wouldn't you want to look to control off her down low with Keelan McDonald on the bench?
She's by far the tallest player on the floor, inbounds to form and drive that uses the glass and it's up and good.
McCrary Foreman's third field goal She's got six.
Or you could just have Foreman drive the lane.
Either way.
2519 Carver Atlanta on a60 run here Frost around the screen She'll pull up left wing for the long jumper and there's no good rebound Foreman Strong rebound by FOREMAN Her outlet to Dorsey gets that ball ahead.
The wobble off the glass no good we got a foul Hustling back defensively was the point guard Zuri Frost and she's going to get whistled for that foul and just might get Manisha Womble, the freshman going again the leading scorer at 13.2 points again, play a little tentatively in the first quarter.
So Frost picks up her first personal team, foul number six on Columbia.
Womble hits that first free throw.
That's her first point of the night.
510 freshman guard, she came in averaging 13 points and she's got her first two.
She hits them both at the line.
Hard to imagine the pressure on a ninth grader playing in the state title game in the big arena, bigger than they've ever played in before.
It's next seven.
He's not a little bit.
I think Christina Gamble had come in briefly.
She exits the ballgame.
Here's the turnover by Columbia up with the ball is wobble in the front court finds Dorsey Dorsey on the wing gets rid of the ball out of a double team I got front the wobble crosscourt the former from a lob down low that was an entry pass intended for Quinn Curry offered the lob way too high even her jumping with arms stretched out for it.
It ends up going out of bounds and it's going to be Columbia possession now with an eight point lead you wonder how long a killer McDonald's going to rest for Columbia the eight point lead, the four ahead of clever.
There you see it.
They put together an eight to nothing run here over the last 2 minutes.
20 seconds Destini Smith driving on the left wing, got a foul there.
It's on Foreman Corey Foreman covers the shot.
So Destini Smith going to step to the free throw line for Columbia on the season, averaging almost eight points pretty good defensively as well.
Three steals.
Columbia has got such a great basketball tradition in both four and now three, the University of Georgia.
You've got Travis, Leslie and Jeremy Trice starting.
They both played for coach Phil McCrory at Columbia.
The girls, however, this postseason run is very unusual for them.
Second one, no good offensive, the rebound for Carver.
Again, they have an eight nothing run underway.
There's all they try to hand off to Dorsey and it's a traveling violation three at Dorsey she never really hits he didn't have the ball in the hand but a split second and that's what happens when they jump out and double team to my basket be the lob out front to frost she'll drive it all the way shot up off the glass It's no good destiny Smith comes up with an offensive rebound a soft make one of those tonight.
I don't believe she has She's just getting to the rim and throwing them up there off the glass out front.
They get it down low to Smith on the entry pass.
It's up no good.
Three had a foul but coach Sandra King trying to help the official with that call pantomiming his motion as he made the travel call And now Keelan McDonald is up off the bench.
She's going to check back in here in a minute.
This three to Dorsey and we're going to have a foul away from the ball, an offensive foul, I believe, on country offer.
She will get shoulder correction.
They're going to call it on Alexa Carty.
She's a61 freshman, so she picks up that foul.
That's her first team, six Smith to frost on the inbounds Smith over here left wing she'll drive and the shot is up It is no good McDonald looking for a rebound save and going out of bounds there by Ashby but right to Alford Carver Atlanta comes up with a loose basketball back the other end quickly Brittany Howard Taylor there is Dorsey over to Wilkins Dorsey with that ball over on the wing she'll drive to the spot She'll pull up off the glass.
It's no good.
Rebound, chase down in the corner and Frost tried to throw it off the legs of Howard.
Here's Dorsey with it trying to save this going back court right here in front of us She can't and it's going to be Columbia Basketball pretty hard over and back call to make some work Kevin Self the official saw that so he checked with Lilly Crouse.
Then it was over and back and here we go.
Columbia's ball dropped for us.
The head coach of Columbia going to make another substitution into the ballgame for the first time as a UA.
Russ She's a59 sophomore forward, averaging about a point and two rebounds a game, and she's only played in nine games this year.
She's getting some tournament action here, state championship action here tonight.
Here's Frost Boy she had the right idea dribble penetrate into the paint and leave it for one of your post players And that time Jemima Ashby could not hold on and the ball sails out of bounds.
It's going to be kava Atlanta basketball.
It was a good look Little slip pass around the arm of the player as well late here in the second quarter 32nd time out 8 seconds remaining and you go back Columbia right now trailing this one as you see 2719 again, how many times have we seen them drive in and just end up the ball ends up out of bounds?
They have.
And a lot of it is because Frost has been trying some circus shots around the rim.
She's all 11, as a matter of fact, and she's trying to circle shots among the taller players and perhaps hoping and maybe what she's used to is a feeling more kind of getting the rebound.
But it's it's not working.
She's also 11 and down nine points.
Well, they come back out on the floor trying to set up one last play for Columbia.
They've got 8 seconds.
I'm surprised there isn't a for cover of Atlanta.
I'm surprised that there's not more pressure from Columbia.
Here's Dorsey in some traffic lost the basketball try to get it back lost it again is stolen by frost She gets to off of the buzzer wouldn't have come counted anyway and we are at halftime here the making comes into all 411 but that was terrific defense by for us again halftime score here 2719 Carver Atlanta right now let's send it to Eric Cutter state coach how would you assess your team's performance so far in containing their big player Kayla McDonald But we're not rebounding and she still is going to get two rebounds on.
We rebound more and we get out on the shooters.
I think we can control the game and I know you know this team very well.
You're giving them a different look.
Maybe in this first half we've given them a different look in our matchup for the first time.
We played them three times, their first times in our matchup.
So it was difficult.
But all right, good luck in the second half, Coach, back to you guys.
All right.
Thanks, Eric.
Again, 2719.
Our score cover Atlanta, leading Columbia.
Get back with our halftime activities.
You're watching coverage of the state finals here on GPB.
She likes to move it, move it.
You're like, we're going to get right back to some more of that great high school basketball action.
We're going to take 5 minutes right now.
That's right.
Just 5 minutes to get you to join the team.
And it's going to be a very important 5 minutes because if you want to watch more high school basketball, not this year.
We're going to continue to have the games for the rest of this year.
But for down the road to future years and years down the road, you want to keep the great high school basketball coming on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
There's one way to do it, John.
How do you do that?
By becoming an MVP for GPB, one of our most valuable players.
And how do you do that?
By becoming a member, a part of the team here at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Plenty of different ways to do it.
Herb has been here a number of years, just about that long.
And I know one thing, it's a $35 level.
You can become a member of Georgia Public Broadcasting.
That's right.
You get a foldable stadium cushion with the GPB logo to watch great high school football next year, which will be on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And then if you decide you can join at the $75 level, which is only six and $0.25 a month, you'll get that GPB roll up blanket and you'll also get the satisfaction of knowing you're keeping great high school sports on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
You know, John, we started doing some new things this year.
We've gone to the webcast.
You know, we did a football game of the week every game, every week this year in high school football.
And we also did a basketball game of the week and tell them about the webcast coming up for basketball championship, you know, basketball championships.
And we've always streamed those.
But also before got to the championships, you know, you got to have quarterfinals and you've got to have semifinals before you determine your champions.
And that was on the Web as well.
And we've always thought that it's not just about television.
You have to talk about all the different ways and angles that you can get the product out there.
And the Internet is definitely one of the ways that's helped us get the product out there in a lot of different hours.
You know, you talk about television at GPB alone over the span of a year, just programing.
You're talking over 3000 hours of original programing.
Then add the 300 hours of championship that we've shown on GPB alone.
Then you add to that all the elements that we've done on the Internet.
So we've really are becoming the statewide voice for high school athletics.
But once again, we can't do without your help being an MVP for GPB.
Herb's already talked about some of the thank you's.
Let's talk about some more of the thank you's and we talk about combos and you go to the $125 level and that's our first combo.
It's a GPB logo thermos for your favorite beverage, you stadium cushion, depending on what sports you like, whatever stadium you're in, indoors or outdoors, it works just as well in your wallet.
Throw blanket at $125 level a little over $10 a month for support there.
And you want to talk about combos?
We got mega combos.
I still don't know what the plural for thermos is.
There's two GPB logo thermoses.
You get two foldable stadium cushions and a roll up throw blanket, hundred and $75 level.
You do that by calling the number at the bottom of your screen going on a secure server, the GPB Borg.
Or you can do it from your AT&T mobile phone by going pound GPB, become a member of the team, continue to be a member of the team, continue to show your support for the only statewide voice that high school athletics has heard, and that is Georgia Public Broadcasting.
It has been for 16 years.
We want to do it for another 116 years.
Yeah, if you want to give somebody your email out there, John, I'm one of the people that know a little bit about the English language can probably help you with that.
Nelson At GPB Dawg, There you go.
My mother was an English major and I still don't know what thermos plural is.
I don't either, but we're going to get back to that in a little while.
As soon as somebody tells us what the correct answer is.
But the correct answer right now is how do you help Georgia Public Broadcasting keep great high school sports on the air?
Well, that's a simple answer.
I even know the answer to that one.
Simple question, because the answer is you go to your phone, you pick it up and you talk to one of the folks there and you say, I want to help high school sports stay on the air in Georgia.
Don't forget Georgia public broadcaster is doing, along with all the public broadcasting, has voted seven years in a row by a Roper poll, the most trusted institution in the country.
So that means you can sit your kids down in front of the television, as you know you do during the day.
You know, they're going to see quality programing throughout the day.
You don't have to worry about them being there.
They're going to learn.
They're going to learn values.
You can set them.
You can come home in the evening.
You can turn on the Jim Lehrer News Hour.
You know, you're going to get the Square story, not one side of the other, but the square Truth about the news.
So keep Georgia public Broadcasting's programing coming.
The way to do that, become a member?
Yes, we have the great thank you gifts.
But again, the thank you gift, the most valuable.
Thank you gift, as always, is going to be what we do for you and what we do for your family and what we do for your community.
Go to your phone.
Become a member right now.
Let's go see some more high school basketball.

Courtside, Dave Koen and Dick Williams here at the Macon Coliseum.
You're halftime score Carver Atlanta leading Columbia 27 to 19.
And Dick some highlights in that first half.
Well we began early with Columbia showing the early offense and their rare three pointer there from the left side.
I can't see who made that shot.
But again, Columbia behind Desiree Smith scoring the biggest player inside a killer.
MCDONALD.
Then Carver came alive behind Bria Dorsey and then Dorsey with a shot up and blocked by a Keelan McDonald, the core young man scored a couple of Corey Foreman scored a couple of baskets for Carver, which are largely responsible for this lead of of eight points at the half time.
Again Bria Dorsey with a floating jump shot.
She really has a nose for the basket and there's that circus shot where she didn't look at the rim, just threw it up over her head.
Some of your stats from the first half here again from the field, Columbia, seven of 2810 out of 27 for Carver three point field goals exactly the same free throws.
Look at that Carver has made all six of their attempts.
Four out of ten the turnover situation.
A couple more for Columbia standing by right at that last one, five blocks for Columbia, stand ups standing by right now is Eric Cutter.
Courtside.
Eric.
Coach, I know this is your fourth meeting with Carver.
Are they doing anything different so far in the first half?
Nothing different.
They're playing a little different defense, but nothing different than what they tried before.
Good luck in the second half, coach.
Thanks.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Eric.
Again, 2719.
Our score here, only three players for Columbia scored in that first half.
A killer McDonald.
Their senior center had nine points, seven rebounds.
He did block three shots.
Jamal Marshall He had five Destini Smith had five, including that three seven for Quinn.
Torrey offered to lead the way and then six apiece for the Cory Foreman and three Dorsey Bell.
Neither team is really an offensive powerhouse.
We knew that going in and neither team has a dominant scorer.
It's the two post players supplemented by a few others around ten point game mark Columbia averaging about 55 a game.
Carver about 57/3 quarter underway.
Destiny Smith sends the ball to Frost over here on the wing.
Go all the way back cross-court, beautiful white that's going to go right down low and it works.
They get it to their post player, a killer McDonald's.
He now has 11 and they cut that lead right away to six 2721.
And that's the way to make a comeback is to get it to a McDonald low lambo, a high arching three from the wing, no good destiny.
Smith The rebound in transition sends it they had to force cross driving into the lane floater is up it is short Alford the rebound all the loose ball and into the hands now of their point guard Wilkins Cross is having a shooter's nightmare of a game right down low Alford underneath shot is up off the glass he snuck right in behind the defense ends up with an easy shot off the backboard and she's got nine to the ball and the post players the scoring McDonnell has 11 Alford has nine.
That jury force we believe, is also 12 now.
And here's Garver Atlanta coming up with a steal Womble trying to go baseline shot is up and it's off the glass no good in and out rebound brought down by a Tyler McDonald he clears the glass that time here Smith into the frontcourt for the lady Eagles 635 on a turning clock here third quarter get it into the post McDonald's got it They throw a double team at it right away.
It loses the basketball ice play by country, often showing strength against strength and stripping the ball away from up there.
McDonald Womble for three jumpers short McDonald another rebound that's a nice rebound to the ball game Destini Smith into the frontcourt for Columbia Quick touch by Latifa White Back out front to Smith Try to split the defense No going there.
Very cross though Comes down with a loose ball to put up a jumper and it's short rebound Tap deflected Wilkins got it for Carver Atlanta though Wilkie into the frontcourt as Carver sets up their offense they lead it now 29 to 21 jumper up from the wing by Williams no good rebound Katori offered out of the way Womble for three her shot is up it is no good battling for the rebound up underneath with a shot at it was Brittany Howard good hold on that a little bit Columbia basketball frost averages 12.8 points a game and again she's having just a nightmare evening from the field.
The good news if she's a sophomore with time to recover from a game like this motivator in the off season, getting ready to make a return appearance player comparison right there you see it, the two post players awfully close, 11 and eight for MacDonald, ten and four for Alford.
They're going to go right down low to McDonald right now.
Beats a double team up off the glass on the baseline right side.
It's good.
Nice post.
Play.
McDonald put her elbows out, made herself play bigger as they go both players today and roll that right off the glass 13 points nine rebounds for a killer McDonald here's Dorsey in the corner Heavy pressure there from Frost He comes up with a steal It's a four on one Did you see Dorsey diving for that roll defensive play?
Here's Brittany Howard.
He lost the ball over on the wing and so Columbia going to get it back.
Boy did see Dorsey dive for that one.
Watch this Dives right after it Beautiful play does not make contact and then the quickness right there coming out with it by Brandy Wilkins Smith into the frontcourt the first cross court Ebony Johnson who's it now the go baseline short jumper Ashby No good feeling McDonald trying to come up with an offensive rebound Couldn't keep it up couldn't get a hand on it before it went out of bounds.
In football terms, that was a hurry on that shot because Quinn Joy Horford came over and timeout 4 minutes and 32 seconds It's a 2923 Harvard Atlanta lead back with more from Macon right after this.
It's coverage of the state finals here at GPB.
And today's games is made possible in part by the following broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association.

Third quarter 2923 Car for Atlanta leading Columbia.
I want to put on a plug for our colleague Herb White's documentary is doing on the days before integration on Georgia's segregated athletic past.
They were ghosts.
I Can't wait to see that broadcast.
Yeah, just be a great sports documentary.
It's about a year away from airing on GPB.
Coming up, following our ballgame tonight, it'll be the Class three eight Boys State Championship, Columbia, the 29 five, La Grange, undefeated, 31 to no again.
Stay with us here.
That's coming up next.
Here's Priya Dorsey.
We'll try to get some room to move over on the right baseline.
A lot of contact there.
You got a foul.
How about that other field goal?
Greens.
That's a game to look forward to and that'll be the 11th championship match GPB has broadcast over the last two days.
That's remarkable.
It's just a great festival of fun and from the smallest town to the biggest city, this stuff is good.
Eddie and Bonzo come in to.
Wilkins patched up their destiny.
Smith playing the pressure.
Nice screen there by offer they get it to Dorsey Joe go baseline or floaters up and off the front of the rim It does no good on the rebound Brittany Howard eats the double team sends that ball back out front the Cory former Dorsey over to Wilkie and now back into the hands of Bria Dorsey She's come off the bench to score six drive it right to the basket leaves it up nice for Alford and the layup is up and good and she's got 11 for the three offered with 11 Bria Dorsey Very nice very nice dish underneath an offer who had a kind of a shaky first quarter really come alive 3123 Carver Atlanta Frost over here on the wing Jemima Ashby ball knocked out of her hands and look who's right in the middle of that but Bria Dorsey she's everywhere on the floor.
Ryan Dorsey isn't.
She's starting to play with a little more control too.
I'm liking the way she's playing.
She's had my two favorite highlights.
The back to the basket circus shot and the dive after she lost the ball.
The dive coming back to get a handle on it and get it back.
Pure hustle play for Burns around 40 inbounds.
It'll come to Ashby driving to the basket left it just short and the rebound 44 ball ends up out of bounds Hustle via AlphaGo She wasn't afraid to go to the floor even to post players matched up on the inbounds and that long involves a command to Ebony Johnson.
Swing it over here to Frost.
She'll drive down the lane, up off the glass, and she finally got one Aha!
Jury finally got one to go.
That makes her one for 12 by my count.
And she's got to play the way they're running their offense around her.
It's going to close this six point deficit.
Yuri Frost has got to play well.
That's a big basket not only for her, but for the team to get them to six.
Here's Dorsey off the glass.
No good rebound Columbia's got it on the rebound It's Casspi boy Nice move getting it into the front court Here's Frost driving up underneath floater is good a little bit of a spin but Foster's hit her last two shots fake for the right hand Go to the left lands left hand spin it up off the rim That is very nice.
So suddenly it's all superlatives for Missouri Frost 3127.
We're inside of 3 minutes to play third quarter.
Boy, that's a dangerous entry pass.
They're a dangerous NC press and a careless foul.
There she is.
There's Rui Frost left and rolls it up and this one cleared the rim.
She looks so you can see it with the left hand right in there.
Though she'd been leaving short that time.
She got it to roll over the top of the rim.
Brittany Howard on that inbounds to Wilkie looking up pressure there from Destinee Smith loose basketball picked up by Ebony Johnson driving in the layup is good a steal and an ensuing layup and all of a sudden dick 3129 with two and a quarter to play here in the third here come the Lady Eagles and we heard coach guy Cedric King of Carver say at halftime that Columbia seemed confused by his matchup zone.
It was a look he hadn't shown them in their three previous meetings and they've apparently adjusted Dorsey a strong move the shot no good but an offensive rebound to Howard Here's Wilkie nice lead for Forman all the way to the basket the layup is good again nice basketball simple We all move right to the hole and a nice pass by the small point guard.
First field goal for Forman here in the second half.
She has eight in the game, 3329 out front Ebony Johnson almost lost it They lob it down low up off the glass that shot is good credit the basket to Jemima Ashby and there's that weakness of that zone if you get behind it it's two points and she used the glass very smart two point game again 3331 here as we get late in the third quarter, a front three at Dawson Cedric King falls out the play from the bench Crosscourt Dorsey has it again from Wilkins as he's going to drive against Frost it's going to be a blocking foul on Zuri Frost.
A little bit of a change here by Cedric King of Carver playing.
Katori offered up the high post, forcing McDonald to come out and garner that frees up the driving range to the basket.
Third team foul.
They're on Columbia and the third personal on Frost.
A killer McDonald will check out of the game Victoria is back in Gonzalez again the 510 sophomore Alisha Womble leaves it for Brittany Howard.
She's in the corner trying to get some room.
They go down low there.
Post player turnaround shot by Alford and she got fouled by Victoria Gonzalez, who just came in the game.
And I think if McDonald had been in the game, Alford wouldn't have had the room to turn and shoot herself.
So team foul number four on Columbia, 12 and five.
So far tonight for Alford, she misses that first free throw.
It was 27 free throw problems in the first half, three point margin here.
This free throws become very precious.
Second one is up good.
She's got 12 and it's a three point game and get the ball Ebony Johnson from the wing the shot no good rebound chased down on the corner Can't save it from going out of bounds It'll be Carver Atlanta possession they'll be involved so come in to Brandy rookie sophomore point guard FAVA with the ball on the three point lead Here's Alford turnaround Oh I thought she was going to take the shot.
Instead she goes up the wing to Howard.
It was good defense and she kind of lost the ball off a palm.
Womble fires it up no good Howard the offensively Bonner stick back jumper no good a battle for the rebound Howard strips it away from Gonzalez and there's a shot baseline left side there by 4 minutes No good We got a whistle away from the ball and it will be a foul call against Carver Atlanta.
Manisha Wimbush will pick up that foul.
That'll be her first personal first team foul here in the second half on Carver Atlanta.
All right Columbia the trailing team three points down, 17 seconds left in this third quarter.
See if they attack the basket right away.
A play for one DESTINI Smith trying to get out of a double team there.
They they lost it.
Smith now gets the ball back, fires it up.
It's nowhere near the rim.
And so it's going to be Carver Atlanta possession here with 4 seconds remaining third quarter.
I think Coach John Jay Frost wanted to call a foul call on that last play.
Judges the expression on the face.
Couple of substitutions with 4 seconds left, Columbia will put some pressure up the court to make it more difficult for a catch and shot.
Freshman Isa Arnold has come in for Carver Atlanta.
The inbound to Wilkie looks up at the clock, pushes it into the frontcourt to get a shot at the buzzer off the rim but no good.
And did she ever get a shot a good sideline everything.
So at the end of the third quarter here, make it Carver Atlanta 34 and Columbia 31 back with the fourth quarter after this You're watching of the state finals here on GPB DVDs of today's game can you purchase at GHC 4424 95 plus tax plus 595 shipping in this broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the following the Mabel Reeder Foundation support comes from all American specialties, the symbol of excellence in the awards industry since 1972.

It's up to you.
What a jerk.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, serving all of Georgia.
And welcome back.
As we head to the fourth and final quarter here to Macon Coliseum, 3431, carver of Atlanta, leading Columbia here in the class, three eight girls state championship.
Nick, it's been a matchup, he said, coming in in the open.
Keep an eye on the post players and McDonald and Alfred have delivered.
Yes, they have.
And they're both playing extremely hard on the glass.
And I think that McDonald has a little bit of the edge offensively, but also he plays rugged defense and they both rebound extremely well.
It's been a defensive struggle with this low score of 3431 at the end of three quarters.
Wilkie the lob to Howard he's got it on the wing pressure there from Ebony Johnson stripped and stolen.
Ebony Johnson gets that ball and a tried to get it ahead to Destinee Smith a little bit too far in front of her.
Chased down by Forman Carver Atlanta comes back the other way quickly here's the lob and that one is stolen there by a killer McDonald ahead to destiny Smith down three with the ball driving all the way to the basket shot is up no good Rebound tapped deflected out front Brittany Howard had it to Wilkins We got a traveling call and so Columbia will get the ball back Cedric King going to make another substitute Howard will check out and Bria Dorsey the junior guard will come back in.
You need to have Bria Dorsey in the game.
She's the energy she seems to to ramp the team to a little bit higher level of intensity while the inbounds of the command to Ebony Johnson up top crossed over on the wing goes baseline and left it short underneath the rebound brought down by foreman and she almost lost it able to save it Dorsey Oh we got a timeout think call by Cedric King.
She thought she was about to lose it.
So he called the timeout.
She was able to recover and save it.
So a 32nd timeout called by Atlanta head coach Cedric King 710 to play here in a 3431 game.
And I would say that we're now dead even, even though it's a three point differential, Columbia seems more comfortable in its offense against the Carver defense than it did in the first half.
And Carver has got a rest period there for Bria Dorsey.
She can come on now in these remaining few minutes and play really hard and well invite you to stay with us.
Coming up, our next game to class three, a Boise State championship game, the Eagles of Columbia, 29 and five going to take on the Granger's La Grange.
They come in undefeated, 31 to no.
Again, that's coming up next right here on GPB.
We invite you to stay with us right here.
We got 710 to go in this one.
You know what the Columbia boys are saying?
You're saying, well, I know La Grange is undefeated, but whomever played come on, this region here, this triple-A region, five triple AA is the toughest in the state in basketball.
And Michelle Womble trying to break free of a double team and they call time out again.
I guess they did set their king burning some 32nd timeouts.
This one may be a full it is a full time half call by Carver 701 to go in a 34 to 31 game here we got some quick stats both teams with 13 field goals and each team has a single three pointer.
The difference so far tonight, according to the stats and the stats, as you well know, they always tell the story.
Columbia, four out of ten shooting their free throws.
Carver's seven of eight well it's the margin is three as it is 3431 and you've missed six free throws.
There it is.
But it's also it was neat.
It was the confusion of Columbia, especially in that second quarter against Carver's matchup zone.
That's been solved at halftime and they were they were able to jump it down behind the zone a couple of times.
We'll see how this goes.
I expect this one to go down to the wire without question.
Good crowd of the Macon Coliseum tonight and a good crowd all day here watching these great games.
The inbounds is deflected and Dorsey going to chase it down back court.
Dorsey dribbling through traffic bouncing off orange jerseys look good or energy and or balance she's able to stay low to it and as a foul they're going to call that one on 25 Ebony Johnson Evan Johnson the sophomore third so that'll be team foul number five that'll be her third personal and he inbounds have come in to Dorsey lobs in the corner to Womble baseline jumper is no go to the rebound taken by Johnson for Columbia He gets it into the frontcourt the lob to McDonald now into the hands of the point guard the sophomore Zoe Frost.
625 an attorney clock here final quarter back in the matchup zone in the corner to frost which allows which allows tight coverage on McDonald driving into the lane the shot was partially deflected and coming downhill the loose ball was offered lands out of bounds make that correction was McCoy foreman she comes lands out of bounds with the ball going to stay with Columbia the Columbia dodges a little bit of a bullet there.
Checking out will be Manisha Womble when Brandi Wilkie reenters the game for Parker Atlanta.
Manisha able to score.
They're not getting it done tonight.
Nice execution on the inbounds right into Jemima Ashby and she's got nine points in the game right in her season's average 3431.
It's a one point game 3433 And Dorsey hits the floor pretty hard over here, too.
All right And she was foul ball going to go on 23 Zuri Frost.
Here's the bonus situation.
Columbia's committed six fouls.
So on the next one, Carver was shooting one on one.
Carver has committed only one foul in this period in this half.
Ebony Johnson will check out the tea for White, the senior forward back on the floor for Columbia and he inbounds looking into Wilkins 555 an attorney clock and a one point ballgame Howard jumper off the rim it is no good McDonald another rebound RUSH Yeah that was almost stolen.
First chance to take the lead right here for Columbia.
A key possession.
Let's see four white cross court almost stolen thrust, driving to the basket.
Got to fire a little late.
Getting over trying to cut off the lane was 4523 offered right Just a little bit slow and your cross fearless.
She's been driving into the paint all night Here you see her?
She has no fear of country.
Horford drives into her and the superior wait offered to mix the foul That's physics When a small body flies into the big body, she does a good job of moving that ball from one hand to the other depending upon what the situation calls for to keep from getting it blocked.
She hits that first free throw.
John Nelson reminds me that force equals mass times acceleration.
It is physics.
When the little tiny Zoe Frost I hope I have been calling her your Siri Frost drives in and meets the much bigger body of the six to offer force it with mass transit.
So the Columbia on the two free throws.
It's their first lead since they led 5 to 2 early in the ballgame, frost to six and the momentum definitely going.
Columbia's way.
They get it now to foreman Her shot partially blocked McDonald down the rebound sends it on the out and we got a three on two shot on goal by ESPN She gets fouled on the play German actually Wow uses the glass on that three on two she said I'm taking it myself Well she doesn't even look to the wing she just splits the defenders and takes it up off the glass.
The wing players were over there all by themselves.
There it is again.
You see?
Beautiful play.
Use the glass and the foul is going to go on.
Brandi Wilkie, that's going to be her first, third team.
Foul and Ash be at the line for the opportunity at three missed the free throw all for the rebound six second half points for the 11 and the game 3734 now Columbia on top by three remember other storyline Columbia now in the lead there boys play next to squirrel would like to have two state titles here in triple AA they feed down low country offer turtle hot shot up over McDonald a good McDonald goes up gets a rebound outlet deer to destiny Smith inside of 5 minutes to play bounce pass a T for white out front to Smith over to Frost That's it Cross back to white over to Frost Columbia.
Good job moving the basketball around the court looks like a131 here by Carver Atlanta defensively try to extend them a little bit in destiny Smith lost the basketball on the dribble It's an over and back and a turnover there will give it right back to Carver Atlanta and the Panthers One other story line to Cam County called this state final for their drive for five they won five state titles Southwest a can girls one quarter and the rebound team which had a 59 game winning streak lost in today.
But they could still win four state titles if the Columbia girls and the Columbia boys prevail.
So it's my call by Carver Atlanta for 22 to play in this one.
And now Columbia with a three lead at 3734 Keelan McDonald 13 points.
He's got two with ten rebounds.
She's got three or four blocked shots and Kentucky offered with 12 to lead the way.
Of course, you look at the Corey Foreman with eight three at Dorsey with six.
And on the other side.
Jamye But Ashby's had a strong second half.
She had five in the first half and she's got six here in the second half.
She's a quiet player, but she's she's had a very strong half.
You just don't notice her as much because of the the other players around her there.
This is a game now of going to be some interesting twists and turns because the zone defense now seems a little bit more vulnerable.
And we'll see what coach Cedric King decides to do coming out of this full time there.
Ready to go here in just a moment.
It's like starters on the floor for everybody.
Manisha Womble has checked back in for Carver, Atlanta.
Dorsey on the inbounds to Wilkins so far for Carver and they've not scored here in the quarter.
I hadn't realized that.
Wow, you've got to get moving.
You didn't.
We didn't even notice.
And so they're try to break that drought here Dorsey lost it now has to turn back, get it and get it back over to Wilkins right.
4 minutes to play.
Dorsey puts up the shot and it's off the back of the rim.
Howard goes up, gets a rebound and it was knocked out of bounds with a say Howard was the last one to touch it and so that will give possession to Columbia And now Carver applies more pressure than they had earlier.
Frost will bring it into the frontcourt.
She's got some room but wisely going to give it back up for the seed there by rookie Brandy Wilkins.
Tough.
She's small and quick with that ball.
Ashby Now back out front.
Latifah White Frost will come up top to take it back Columbia playing very patiently now that they have the lead top of the key jump down to McDonald and McDonald goes up and challenges Alford, who blocks the shot big block there by Pretoria, offered MCCORRY Foreman Coming back in here, you see the two post players right at and the career and that Quantrill offer gets the better of her on that one she's good Smith couldn't even turn offered was on her offers got two blocks off the inbounds jumper is around couldn't get the roll the rebound Howard had the rebound and coming in from behind and taking it away was McDonald.
She's going to get whistled for the foul.
That's a tough call.
And that's her fourth foul that puts this Columbia lead in some jeopardy.
That's her fourth.
She just looked up at the scoreboard overhead of us in the center of the arena roof and kind of sagged a little bit when she confirmed it was her fourth foul.
Now she's going to confer with her coach and take Frost.
Meanwhile, Brittany Howard at the line, their first points here in the quarter, Brittany Howard for third in the game 510 senior came in averaging ten points, seven rebounds.
She's got three in four so far today.
Now we're going to see if a Keenan McDonald can play smart as well as physical.
Second free throw is no good.
Save the ball, Save there by Alford.
And I believe we have another timeout called here by Carver Atlanta the full time up and it comes with 3 minutes and 8 seconds remaining in what is now Vick a two point ballgame 3735.
I think the key factor here is that fourth foul on Akeem McConnell.
That was tough.
She reached over the girls back to grab the ball away from her and apparently some contact was made and without her, don't have a fulcrum around their offense.
They don't they don't have a focus point for their offense.
And so it'll be interesting to see.
She's got to play smart.
She can't be reaching after shots she's got to remember to stay vertical.
She's got to remember to move her feet on defense and lots of things like that is very interesting.
And I, I notice that Coach Cedric King at Carver is adjusting with every timeout.
He's making changes in the way they do things every time now.
So we'll see what he's got up his sleeve this time as he tries to close a two point deficit here with 308 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Go back and Carver Atlanta led this game at halftime, 27 to 19.
They were up three at the end of the third.
And so it's been a strong fourth quarter so far.
By the Lady Eagles.
A lot of orange in the stands behind their bench tonight here in the Coliseum because their boys follow.
They've got both squads here.
Rashawn Dorsey trying to penetrate lost the ball and of course the two post players on the floor battling for the loose ball and the jump ball is going to favor Columbia.
When referee Kevin Self pointed at the two players.
I think that Caleb McConnell thought he was dropping her for a fifth foul.
She she looked somewhat surprised, but it's just a hell ball.
Womble will check out the Corey Foreman back on the floor for Carver Atlanta and they're going to come with some full court pressure McDonald up ahead Destinee Smith out of jury FROST You know, Jerry Frost has a sister on this squad.
Both the coach's daughters, Rebecca Frost, she's out with a knee injury.
She's dressed, but she's not playing tonight.
Here's McDonald.
Smith dribbling it back out with 235 and attorney against Columbia.
They're going to leave it up underneath.
They have a shot there by Ashby.
It's no good.
She drew the contact again.
They're going to dribble it around.
They're going to run as much clock as they can until they find what they think is an opening and get it to the open player and try to come up with a, you know, an easy shot inside.
I said over and over again, there is no shot clock and high school basketball.
Be patient.
You got to lead.
Don't hurry into a bad shot.
The inbounds to a killer McDonald and give and go there Destiny Smith's traveling violation and part of that was that right after she took that pass from McDonald, she ran right in front of Quinn.
Tory offered Backdoor off just a little bit.
Womble is going to come back on the floor.
Foreman will check out Manisha Womble, the 510 freshman guard and the team's leading scorer back in the game.
He's got two points so far tonight.
They both come from the free throw line.
Here's Wilkie.
Top of the key, Howard straight away for three shot no good and it will be Columbia basketball.
Not sure that's the shot that coach Cedric King wanted.
At that point he's instructing his players on the floor.
Let's come with some full court pressure right now as McDonald gets set to put it in play.
He's playing offense defense for Womble in for offense on the inbounds it was Ashby wasn't aware that the inbounds pass was coming to her and all of a sudden you had a loose basketball right in the paint and Carver retains possession.
And here comes Monisha Womble again for offense.
And now Corey Foreman sits down to come back in on the next defensive possession.
Dorsey Going to put that ball in play Boy, that's a break for comfort Atlanta sure was on the inbounds they'll get it into Horford back out front to Howard get the ball indoors his hands that's where it needs to be He's going drive free throw line jumpers off to him look good Howard goes up, gets an offensive rebound she can't get a shot off.
She was surrounded by three orange jerseys.
But Carver maintains possession Wilkie chases down the loose ball.
Here comes Dorsey driving out of control up underneath the shot put up there by Alfred.
No good.
It might be five on McDonald if it is on McDonald, just like it is the show 32.
That could be it for her.
There you see it.
Dorsey going right down the lane and McDonald in straight up.
I didn't see the contact but from that angle you could hear that we're not right there.
So So McDonald picks up her fifth and she's actually going over and shaking the hands of all the Carver Atlanta players, 13 points, 11 rebounds for McDonald, a fine game.
And those last two fouls were tough on her.
We'll see.
Now if if Columbia can hold on to this tenuous two point lead a minute 43 left your game with Alford at the free throw line He's had a 13.5 rebound Knight herself and she ought to be able to maneuver in the paint now and misses that first free throw second one is up and good 14 on the night for her and it's a one point game 3736 Destiny Smith into the front court It's that ball back to frost frost in traffic lost it loose ball pivot landers got it Brittany Howard and she lost the dribble Gets it back into the hands of Wilkie 125 and a turning clock Here's Dorsey free throw line jumper short and the rebound to Gonzalez And with McDonald on the bench Gonzalez has been brought in She's going to have to rebound Here's Frost cleans it up underneath short jumper down low is partially blocked Latifah White took the shot and we got a foul And is the foul going 33 Howard you see the point guard penetrate dish to look to the right she goes up against taller players and she is fouled as she shoots two throws coming.
It was on Howard her second personal team's fifth free throw is up and good There's a pressure free throw for two for white She's a senior that's her first point of the ballgame and she hasn't played all that much.
But that was a nice pressure free throw.
She makes the second one that'll make it a three point game and denied the three as a killing weapon in this game.
The second free throw is no good.
The rebound chased down by Alford.
Carbon has gone over ten from the field here in the fourth quarter 3836 and they've only scored 13. goal the whole game.
So I don't think that's their weapon of choice here.
Here's Wilkie going baseline the runners no good rebound fought for going to go out of bounds I'm going to say last touch by Gonzalez with 53 seconds to play Carver needs to run something smart on this inbound John Frost going to make a substitution coming back in is Ebony Johnson.
She'll replace Latifah White and she's limping a little bit on her way back to the bench.
So got a timeout called by Columbia here with 53 seconds remaining in a two point ballgame.
3836 Yeah.
And we got to examine strategies here.
It's all different.
It's all different for Columbia right now without a Keelan McDonald in there as the weapon of choice.
I'm going to guess is is going to be jewelry Frost and Jemima Ashby.
And as far as Carver goes, they've got the possession, they've got to win all the big.
They really need to run something smart every time.
Down 53 seconds is a long time.
Well you're going to go inside the Alford for the one that has shown no hesitancy to put the ball on the floor and try to dribble to her spot is Bria Dorsey.
But because she has not been hitting at all in the second half of the show for the half of the fourth quarter but yeah she had six in the first half has not scored here and Carvell is all for the fourth quarter.
Oh for ten.
So I think you want something real close to the rim if you can get it.
Field goal so far here in this quarter to four eight for Columbia and also 11 for Carver.
Here's the inbounds Dorsey will put it in play Got to be careful.
He got his second chance.
She got the five second call and so that will be a turnover.
Columbia now will put it in play.
If Coach King's hair were grown out, it would have just turn gray and the inbounds of command Ebony Johnson ahead Destiny Smith lost it now gets it back drive it and leaves it underneath for Gonzalez but oh by Dorsey and Dorsey just couldn't hold on But there she is right there with the ball.
Great hustle play.
She just couldn't quite hold on.
Hey, you're seeing the ball going to the hoop.
Alford makes her pass the ball off.
Dorsey Grips appears to get possession and dribbles what looks like off the side of her foot.
Out of bounds, though, another timeout called.
It's a full time out here with 44 seconds remaining and it's still a two point ballgame.
38 to 36.
Yes, indeed.
And the ball, of course, now belongs to Columbia.
And they've got time and this time out to set up a play.
And we'll see what they will come out and do.
And I imagine that Carver stays in that matchup zone but to Columbia with another basket here from the way Carver shooting I would say pretty good about Columbia's chances if they could score on this possession.
Well really just when you think about it they hand us the stat carver for ten in the fourth quarter.
It's amazing.
It's a two point ballgame.
If it is, it's incredible.
A half.
That's the kind of shooting drought that gives you you got this kid's movie.
If they lose this game, they'll be riding home on the bus back to Atlanta, thinking of all the shots that fell short.
It won't be a great question.
Right inside the Columbia huddle, they have the ball in a two point lead with 44 seconds to play.
And then the Class three girls state championship.
So far, Columbia eight fouls have turned it over.
Once Carver five, they've got one turtle.
That's timeouts, I should say.
Correction there, one timeout remaining.
Three get it over to frost.
There's a bounce pass back out is in a clear delay.
A delay game, no question wrong.
Even Julie Frost is being careful with the ball.
Lob back out to Ebony Johnson back over to Frost for a 25 seconds Got to make them foul ball deflected Ebony Johnson able to get it down Nice play Send it ahead to Ashby off the frost she'll go in off the glass The layup is good Wow she's got a four point game.
10 seconds left Here's Dorsey leaves it in the middle and at least basketball and Gonzales got a hand on it.
She was pushed out of bounds.
Wow.
Got a foul there.
5 seconds to play Frost lost on that left handed layup pretty much ice the ball game and that was because of an overplay on the other side they were trying to foul that.
They sent out a double team to try and foul and they couldn't get it.
And somebody spotted Zuri Frost there and she was able to make that nice of.
The left handed layup, about the only layup that's gone for her all day.
But that one counts and that's the one to remember.
So now Destiny Smith will put in play again five ticks of the clock two, five six on the clock to go looking for the inbounds long inbounds Got it long Come to Frost who catches it uses it to stop the ball and buzzer sounds and that's the ball game.
The Lady Eagles of Columbia their class three eight state champions and.
Think about Carver's plight.
They're all for the fourth quarter and a five second violation.
But the real winner is Columbia.
And they deserve it because they played much of that fourth quarter without their big star center.
Kayla McDonald After she found out they kept their composure, Zuri Frost made the ball and made them goals when it counted and Columbia is the ranking three eight state champion.
Now it's up to their boys to see if they could make it to four the school in the Stone Mountain area.
Kayla McDonald Finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Again, they're the state champions, Columbia.
We'll get back with our post-game after this.

And they do it well they play hard but congratulations to our carver had a heck of a game and a you know as I'm speechless.
Talk about that comeback.
How were you guys able to pull it out there in the end?
Well, I told them either play hard or go home.
Got it that way.
And they won.
They played hard to stay in here.
Congratulations, coach.
Let's send it back to you guys.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Eric.
It was a battle.
The post players, even though she found out Akeelah McDonald the outstanding game with 13 points, 11 rebounds.
Absolutely.
And and the the Carver team had nothing to be ashamed of.
They played hard.
It was a great game.
All right.
