The runway is coming.
It's about to slam to the left from three and watch this guy go driving back and he gets it from the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Cineplex.
It is the girls triple-A final and it is number one versus number two.
The Washington County Golden Hawks taking on the Eagles of Colombia.
A matchup anticipated from the beginning of the playoff brackets is now a few moments away.
John.
Here, Shawn here.
And Coach, you want to talk about the matchup and we've circled it, exclamation, italicized, underline.
This is the one they want to see.
Exactly right.
This is what you want.
Number one versus number two.
Meet.
We say more.
You love speed, you love pressure.
The Fast and the Furious is coming your way.
And that is what we call a tease in this business.
Let's talk about the road to starting off with Washington County Sanders ville, undefeated, 63 wins in a row, win by 40, win by 11, win by 12, North haul in the semifinals.
They only had a six point lead.
They won by 16.
On the flip side, Columbia, their road to the finals.
Once again, you're looking at look range by 26, Oconee County by 24, true by 14.
In a dominating performance in the semifinal against West Side, Augusta, 62 to 37.
That's how they got here.
And you're talking about how everything is going on for Washington County and everything goes through.
Alysha Grant I tell you what, she's a dynamite, excellent player.
Gatorade Player of the Year.
The state of Georgia had the same award when I was in South Carolina and and a junior.
So she's got a lot of time to grow.
But look for her to come out.
She put 40 points last night.
She could go for 60.
And that's what we're going to look for from Washington County.
We'll see Shug Parker and everything else going on with Washington County as we go.
Columbia's turn.
Let's talk about the two year champ ago with the Columbia Lady Eagles and everything is coming up frosty.
But that's a good thing for Columbia.
And Zacharias Frost playing for our mother.
And I'll tell you, I did the same thing in South Carolina, play for my father, Lewis Golden, four straight championship appearances for Frost.
I had the same thing.
I know the feeling.
The pressure is there.
She wants to go home because she won't get no sleep.
If said, don't take the camera the championship back.
So you talk about these teams and you talk about the relationships and obviously when we catch up with Nikki Noto in a little bit, she'll get into the mother daughter relationship.
When it comes to all the frost, Zuri Frost is the second of the family to get there.
Let's send it over to Nikki Noto to finish the story.
Nikki Yeah, comes from she's used to the balancing act and the mother and coach role.
I asked coach if she sneaks away to her senior standout daughter's room.
That would be point guard Zeus Zuri Frost Room to offer her any advice or wisdom for the big game.
Coach laughed, and she said no.
If I went to her hotel room, I'd probably make her watch film.
As she leaves The advice to her older sisters, who both have successful collegiate careers should be a good one.
Guys, No doubt about it.
Thank you very much, Nikki.
We will catch up with you as we go.
Washington County and Columbia coming your way from the Macon Coliseum, The 888 final coming up on GPB six is 24.
Hey, Cookie Rossi, it's Washington County.
Washington County.
Yes.
The graphic listed Washington no county.
It's Washington County Golden Horse.
There you go.
Okay.
So you see these all blow through the lineups.
It's a good title page, Washington County to talk about today.
Yes, That's Doug Parker.
Yes, that is.
Should Parker Washington County?
No, no.
That's when it hits that ship.
Parker, Washington County, Shantay, Frost wearing a blue blazer, hair in a bun.
It's a chic Shawn Frost.
Hang on.
Yeah, hair in a bun wearing a blue blazer.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center plex.
It is the girls triple A final number one versus number two, The Golden Hawks of Washington County and the Eagles of Columbia.
Starting lineups.
We talked about coach Felicia Gray.
What about the rest of Waco?
That's how everyone has a Batman and Robin.
They've got the Justice League just that.
You got Lisa Drake.
She's Superwoman.
Shawn Kitchens is playing.
She injured her knee in the semifinal.
She is ready to go.
Flip side Columbia, you talk about them winning the title two years ago, Columbia's starting lineup, we talked about Frost.
That's the kind of condition Columbia wants the rest of the roster right there now.
But third team especially, that's the one that sticks out.
She's a leading score at 13.3 points a game.
She's shooting 62% from the field, one in two.
We can't say any more about this particular matchup other than we're ready to go.
Both of these teams came out strong in the first 3 minutes of play and that's what you're looking at.
They want to have match pace with pace, and this could be a very fast paced, early on.
Exactly right.
This is a statement that I see both teams want to come out in the first 3 minutes.
They shoot out like a cannon because they want to have pressure.
They want intensity.
They want up and down the court.
Very sharp.
Parker, the head coach of the Washington County, winners of 63 in a row, Sanders ville and Washington County representing the lady hawks on the drive down ice 16 and everything is going to go through player of the Year.
Alysha Gray, 15.
Taking the stat for Washington County, only a junior, she got caught looking on the tap away from the ball.
Columbia gets the opening tip and we're ready to go.
There's gray and an white a surprise starter 13 jump shot off No good by Maya Spencer Once again rebound high off the glass no third opportunity for Columbia no good and a whistle could ease them on out of bounds.
You can see the intensity right then the first possession of the game Hart and also both teams going to be matched up well.
Columbia on the inbound 22 seconds in Spencer looking to inbound does spin move off the glass up and in first two on the ball Victoria Gonzaga fast fantastic move is being driven to the baseline was able to get the duke's shot gets his double team stepped on the line turnover It's a pressure pressure pressure that's all we're going to talk about from beginning to the end.
40 minutes of pressure.
Maya Spencer doing a little housecleaning for us here before she does the inbound guarding Shawn Kitchens thinking about inbounding back court goes near corner this time dribble drive shot deflected and blocked and they're going to call a foul Andre is very fast went with the jumper they would drive into the middle That's one thing you got to do It gets pressure you can't allow the defense to adjust some suffocating It's good to drive get to the heart of the defense.
Try to draw too fast to the line for Columbia.
Zoe Frost.
First free throw up and good.
So sorry.
And there's the match on tape.
Frost has had two other sisters come through, as Nikki Noto told you in the open during her Columbia blue line.
Final step, second free throw, good for nothing.
Columbia early over Washington counting 40 seconds in yet.
Here's that pressure they're going to stay with it Dre outside on the perimeter looking to drive double team four bodies touching that ball including great jumper nearside rimmed out.
No good stick back up in the air.
Deflected third opportunity for Washington County.
Yes.
The shot doesn't go on a foul.
Got it.
You got to get that rebound defensively.
But that's a good thing.
That's good Washington County because you've got to be able to go in there and secured offensive put backs heading to the line for Washington County.
Tiera Murray and she'll shoot to about a minute.
In short, look for the press coming up here for the free throw could also happen on the Miss should Parker told us before we came on the air.
He says, If we're playing our best and we're down, then I'm worried.
Otherwise we can make adjusted second free throw no good Picked up by Columbia.
They'll bring it back the other way.
Sorry Fox loses the handle picked up and a foul on Fox trying to go back after the ball on the turnover and on the floor shaken up a little bit understandably so security and Nelson stop clearing out some cobwebs as Shawn kitchens goes to the inbounds under a minute gone here in the triple girls final four nothing Columbia out of the champ County taking on the golden hawks of Washington County out of Sanders ville the last two champions 2010 Columbia 2011 facing off here in 2012 Going up for the shot Nelson Ball knocked away in transition.
Can Jerry Frost catch up?
Yes, she can.
No, she can't.
Turnover.
It's good defense.
Great defense.
Deflections and steals.
And I like them being aggressive with Columbia.
You got a tap.
Did they have a turnover?
But that's good because again, the oportunity to know what they can do.
Well, Paula Brown on the inbound playing catch with Nelson to get to Lisa Grant Gray as a junior, already has 40 offers on the table.
Jump ball called alternate possession stays with Washington County again here's the defense by Columbia great trying to get in there all ball good call by the official Nelson on the inbound off the glass shot no good rebound picked up by Victoria Gonzalez Allison sorry frost Frost Nice dish off the glass shot no good rebound Alisha Great fighting with two others on the inside story Frost comes out with a pair Columbia and they'll reset kicks it inside shot up and in and another two on the board for Khadijah Vaughn and a time out and should Parker wants a full all already that's a good job by Columbia coming out in attack and get to the rim and finish and down low and you got to be proud of your team you Coach Frost right now I understand you got a chance to be up by six points here at the beginning of the first 3 minutes of the game.
Once again, we talk about everything that's in play for Washington County going up against Columbia.
And we talk about winning 63 in a row.
That is obviously no small feat.
But you talk about Washington County coach and this is a team that hasn't had a win of less than ten points all season long.
So I don't know if you want to talk about good pressure, bad pressure, pressure, pressure.
What are we talking about here?
When a team has been so dominant all year long?
You know, it reminds me of the Kentucky Wildcats, and this is the same kind of format.
Kentucky going into the incidentally tournament.
The pressure's on because they don't know how to play in close games.
Well, the same things here.
Here's the one thing that's going to happen.
These girls have to stay focused and understand it's a process you don't win in the first 3 minutes.
You don't win in the first half.
It's a process.
That's what you have to have a chance to play the game and you got to quality teams here this afternoon.
Early field goal numbers.
Waco four two, Columbia, 33% from the floor.
They're the only ones who've made three points.
They are two for six from the floor as well.
They're coming from a good job of rebounding the basketball 6 to 1.
I love kitchens and down to Alysha Gregg and there's your match up very fast.
Felicia Gray I imagine everyone on the Columbia jerseys is going to spend some time marking Gray as the day goes on.
Nelson Trying to do dribble drive over to collar brown brown double team in the corner tries to kick it back out.
Imani Simmons in the game now for Washington County.
She's getting pressure from Zoe Cross Give it to Alisha Gray.
Gray looking in the corner Pass wants to step back thinking about the three once again going to step on the baseline turnover that time by Sean kitchen I like what Trinity is doing that was a half court 122 zone pressure defense protect the ball keep the ball out of the paint So right now all you watch is not able to penetrate and get to the paint.
Get open shots.
Third turnover by the Golden Hawks.
Here we are, 245 into the first quarter.
Columbia pitching a shutout.
Six nothing on the top ranked team and scores 888 into the paint shot doesn't fall, but Gonzalez will go to the line for two.
That's good.
Strong move by Gonzalez getting into the paint.
Get the defense on the back.
She was scored two from the free throw line, averaging about eight and a half points a game, almost six rebounds a game for Gonzales she's verbally committed to Howard has a 3.5 GPA teams, GPAs of 3.2, first free throw off the front of the rim.
No good one.
That's a credit to coach Cross understanding this girl's a student athlete, 65% free throw shooter on the line.
Second is up misses everything.
Washington County will come back down the floor does that 1 to 2 again, doing a good job of pressing the ball at your hands, trying to get those deflections.
Nelson and Sean Kitchens kitchen stinks three misses no good rebound on the inside picked up Gonzalez again double teamed in the corner crashing bodies and it looks like it's going to be called on Sean Kitchens so the Washington County is trying to do they got to press it all aspects of the game make shots and miss shots.
Washington County is always looking to put on the pressure.
Should Parker dialing up the pressure once again, it's almost man pressure coming up.
So you're going to have three bodies right there.
Zoe Frost loses the handle.
Steph It's good defense forcing the trap, getting her up court on the sidelines.
That's exactly what you want when you're trying to do.
Effective in your press.
Nelson guarded by frost wide open for the jumper misses everything Rebound by gray on the inside McCollum steps there to the beautiful things officials know this is a ticks game so you can't call every minute foul let the players play let the players decide who's going to win the championship.
And you talk about what Gray did in the semifinals, 40 points in the 6852 win by Washington County over North Wall.
Add to that 13 rebounds, seven steals, four assists, three blocks.
Yes, that's an average night drive all the way through.
No good spot for Rebound Kick Back Out by Maya Spencer Spencer guarded by Armani Simmons for 23 and counting first quarter Columbia still pitching a six nothing shutout over Washington County.
The top ranked team in triple-A Gonzalez in the paint spin kicks it back out to Spencer Spencer resetting after getting instructions from Zoe Ball pick up high working the perimeter thinking about a pass inside.
Once again, you talk about the pressure contained as we did in the double eight game.
You're seeing it here by Washington County, the longest in three you know good box out rebound, easy to open in Octavia Hicks and stay with Columbia doing a great job of attacking the offensive glass.
I think they're up 8 to 2 when it comes to rebounding and that's just great doing what she does best attack.
You got to get back on defense.
You can't celebrate a make shot.
You've got to get back on defense.
They're going to call a charge on Gray after that.
And we're going to take time.
We are past the halfway point 345 to go first quarter.
Columbia pitching an eight two game right now.
More on GPB when we come back.
Welcome back to the Making Coliseum, Making cineplex.
Discussing the last bucket last fall.
Columbia currently leading 8 to 2.
But here's something for you.
Watch Georgia outdoors from inside your living room.
You'll be able to cozy up with bats and frogs.
Hang on the beach with sea turtles and kayak down the ultimate river.
Get wild with Sharon Collins and Nature Watch Georgia outdoors on the great GPB.
And you want to talk stunning.
Shane Keating, the lead videographer for that show, does some amazing work.
Shane and Sharon on GPB Georgia outdoors.
Good stuff.
It's that time of the year.
Let's go fishing.
Let's go hunting.
Hunting, guys, I love to fish.
I took my daughter fishing couple years ago.
She's out them.
She got first fishing, got them title back into the lake.
So she's one for one.
It's a perfect thousand.
She's pitching 2000 Columbia cheerleaders.
They are jacked up because they are leading eight two to the basket stood.
Check out the rebound in Columbia all over the board.
Well that's the key to the game so far.
9 to 2 rebounding.
Columbia knew what they had to do.
Matt spin takes the bees that Washington County was going to bring to them today.
So count the basket.
We come back.
Alisha Gray will try to complete the three point play and she does smooth stroke at the free throw line at the break.
And there's your pressure once again, 345 and counting.
In the first 8 to 3, Columbia leading the gold in the Hawks and Washington County chasing after win 64 and nice nice pass three frost out of bounds stays with Columbia I tell you what frost is good, crafty and sneaky getting into the paint.
Her teammates got to see that and dive to the basket because she's going to drop some dimes this afternoon.
Look at this.
This bunny hopping getting in there.
She's got a finish that her teammates got to finish back.
Field goal numbers right now shot up and a foul.
Columbia three of nine heading into that whistle, 33%.
Waco 25% at 144 fouls on Sean Kitchens that'll be her second.
So it's something to pay attention to Shawn Kitchens with her second foul should Parker easily goes about seven or eight deep on his bench he can go eight or nine deep if he needs to so Shawn kitchens out of the game coming back in looks like it's college Brown first free throw up and in second it's long three Washington County players in the paint for the easy board and they'll come back up down 9 to 3 in Columbia setting up that press trap.
Great.
So she comes back out up top crosscourt work now to Imani Simmons, who gets double teamed in the corner trying to get out of traffic.
Almost triple team brown back out to gray guarded by maya spencer.
Once again fake corner collar brown jumper.
Good good basketball, good rotation, good pace in step of Washington County.
Don't look for games.
You ever see someone else has to step up nine five under 3 minutes to go first quarter here to make it coliseum drills triple a final the last two chance they get to see if Washington County defends their triple crown and get win 64 in a row.
Well, Columbia gets another even year championship.
The 2010 champs looking forward and 2012 jumpers good by Maya Spencer and they'll give her three.
I tell you what, opening the wings.
She had a great solitary, good rotation on her shot.
Sweet stroke press broken back over half court.
Amani Simmons gives it a great way up high Spencer guarding her jumper Rainbow three no good touched and out with it Very cross for Columbia They've got numbers at three my gosh Nice pass tax rate That's a coach's daughter right there she understands the game knew when to make the best for how to make the skip bounce pass for a layup spoken by a coach's son 14 five Columbia up nine now in Washington County Washington County adding to the mystique this year, winning 63 in a row.
No game won by any less than ten points.
Every game won in double digits.
Brown shot no good rebound on the inside by Hickson trying to dribble out of traffic 135 to go first quarter lazy pass Missouri cross to bounce picked up Nice pass in vision by frost and they're going to call steps and bring it back the other way that life lacrosse is doing this knifing and cutting through the defense this being in the right place at the right time.
Nice rotation great stroke Spencer for the three and then Frost pushes in.
I tell you what she is crafty with the ball in her hands.
I like frost She's just does a lot of good things and it comes from being around a mother and watching her sisters.
All this all this time, 90 seconds to go in the first 14 to 5 Columbia over Washington County, Washington County wins today.
They also get into the rare era of back to back undefeated seasons.
Last time that happened, Keesha Brown and was it Academy 95 and 96?
Collin Brown Inside the paint kicks it back out and steps is the thing.
What's happening is that 1 to 2 defense that Columbia has Washington County you got to tap that from the win.
You can't attack your strike zone because it's a point zone.
Point zone is a very hard to attack from straight up.
You got to take it from the baseline and force the defense to flatten up.
Washington County forced 23 turnovers in the semifinal against North Hall.
They've got four of their own, 645 650 in the game in the last game of the year, perimeter offense, trying to find something on the cutter in the paint Columbia looking like the semis.
SMITH We're going to take some time Shot clock from behind by Alisha Gray.
Gray is going to work to break on her own.
Two on four.
Pull up, Pop.
That's sweet.
It was that nice?
That was it.
That's why she's a Gatorade State player of the year.
I believe there's choice.
All of the above.
Those sweet and nice 40 seconds to go.
First quarter Columbia up a touchdown.
14 seven.
Maya Spencer and Zuri Frost up high walking around the semis Smith Smith looking to go on Drake kicks it back out to frost 25 seconds and counting It looks like Columbia might be playing for either a cutter or one dribble into the paint traffic.
They're going to call a whistle on the push off.
This is what you call McDonald's Gatorade Player of the Year.
Just understand that she can't split in two this pull up from the wing, 18 feet, smooth stroke.
She's going to be a good foul on sheer Nelson That's her first 20.1 to go in the first quarter.
Try for the lob ball on the floor.
Washington County comes up with it.
Can they get a bucket in the last 15 seconds to trim the 7 seconds, the seven point differential lazy pass into a passing lane knocked out of bounds and looks like they're going to give it to Columbia off the double touch Columbia and Washington County, 7 seconds and counting in the first ball kick off the foot looks like an easy lap to finish the quarter.
And it is the Columbia.
If that's not what you want it to have to finish out the first quarter.
Good pressure defense.
But watch the count Sean Kitchens with the layup to cut the lead Columbia to five 8 minutes gone heading to the second Columbia and Washington County trying to determine the triple-A championship the last girls title decided here we come back on GPB.
We're back.
Well, welcome back to the Making Car Scenic and Cineplex Sanders ville represents.
I think that's what the kids say these days.
Columbia at 14 to 9 after one.
And Coach, you were talking about intensity.
It's so intense.
That's exactly right.
We know that this is an important game to accomplish what you want.
It has to be intense and so does this team.
Yesterday, Columbia raced to a 12 nothing lead in their semifinal against West Side Augusta.
They had an eight nothing lead in the game today.
They were getting their way defensively.
Right now, their lead is 16 to 9, 15 seconds into the second quarter as they chase after their second title in the last three years.
They take it from you did a great job of hitting the offensive glass drive, pass on the inside, shot, blocked, knocked back into plays.
Rory Frost on the break, two on three.
She's going to continue to take it.
She's tough.
She is tough.
She was able to get from one end of the court to split the defense just the things that she does with the basketball is unreal.
This is understanding how to play.
The point is really good.
There's the block just receives the same dribbles would have left hand two blocks off the defense splits it.
It's good job.
Get to the free throw line Kent down four to the foul that time John Gray that's his second.
We've got to keep an eye on that as we got those free throws missed by Jerry Brown is something to look at.
Columbia never has anyone on the free throw line.
Why?
Because they want to always set up that press, whether it's a maid or miss free throw.
And that's where they're back, where they set up as well.
I talked about intensity, so saw some us just a second ago keeping an eye on her youngest daughter make the second of 217 nine Columbia now up by eight still in the first minute of the second quarter.
Two bodies, three bodies and Columbia anywhere near the basketball alternate possession stays with Washington County this time around.
And that's what we've seen with a lot of these defenses this weekend.
It's press, press and press for the full 32 minutes.
And if you can't keep up, you can't keep up.
Exactly right.
Athletes on the court, speed on the court, split play with good strip.
These coaches know what they've got, not them.
But speed and good athletes just utilize that to our to our screens three point attempt airball no good first quarter numbers field goal Washington County 44%, four for nine.
Colombia five in 12 32%.
Easy bunny right there rebounding edge Colombia ten four after one and it's now 19 nine First minute I tell you what you still got to go back to what Frances though she's doing a great job with this facilitating the basketball and getting it to a teammates there.
NELSON Looking to do something on the inside.
They're going to call a blocking foul.
Looks like that's going to go against Gonzalez That's the second one.
Victoria Gonzalez The sheer Nelson had strong.
The best way to beat a press is to attack it.
Sometimes you got to get to the nightclub and really go hard to the basket for free, throw up and good.
Washington County in the semifinal made 14 of 16 free throws down the stretch.
So this is a definite specialty for said Parker's team.
Nelson Second free throw pushed up off the back of the rim gets the wall, but it rolls out one of two for Washington County 19 to 10 double teams very fast gets it.
She's going to have two bodies on hurricanes.
She dribble out of trouble.
She does double out of trouble.
Almost an over and back pass on the inside in transition.
No good second chance afternoon I could lose long game he got to create a flip cross is doing him on the pressure beat in the double team They found it open person down look all credit goes to which she does with the basketball quick 30 ball Let's take a look at the last time we talked about trust Keep our eyes up, see what's going on.
But then the teammates just have to follow up with the pass and finish underneath the basket, working often with the two basket, another tick mark under the collar.
You shantay cross talking to the Lady Eagles once again, emphasizing six and a half to go here.
Second quarter, they play as a loose group, but they're also they also know what they're getting into.
They tell you what you can watch that huddle, all those young women were focusing on what she was saying.
No one was looking left and right.
They understand that coach has control of this huddle and we here to listen and understand what she wants to help us get this championship tonight, to mottos for the team championships and scholarships and also their missions are to be focused, to be intense, to be disciplined before we have fun.
my gosh.
You got to have fun.
Winning brings on that fun rebounding edge now, 13 five Columbia here in the second, second quarter.
Field goals.
Waco open to Colombia, three for six first, many in the Washington County here in the second quarter from the field the first he's a basket at Washington ahead of him by Spencer having handling issues finds an outlet and he divine back out there's a free fall coming up on 2 minutes gone second quarter Columbia leading Washington county 2112 with a triple A girls championship.
Spencer in trouble in the corner tries for an instant pass scramble on the floor.
Alternate possession stays with Columbia this time this is what we love You got to love it.
The intensity is there.
We haven't seen this type of contested all weekend long to this level.
I got you got to look fear Nelson The bottom of that scrum, when you get two teams that play with pressure, those type of situation is going to happen.
That's just being competitive.
No one's out there trying to get unnecessary.
It finishes two young ladies scrambling for the basketball, trying to fight for their team on the back for a championship is gone.
And Nelson, you see the ball hit the floor.
There goes sheer Nelson has to give on fighting for it and fighting for it.
They went right to the whistle.
It was an attempt to the looking look into the eyes for both sides.
I don't think there was any type of double foul or technical on that action.
But at the same time, I think that this was David Jenkins, Jill, Paul and Vinnie Rush saying, okay, we're going to warn you, but I'm going allow you to play and have fun.
No one back down.
PRESTON That's the pressure and intensity that you want.
No one back down and that's the thing.
When you have this kind of intensity, I mean, there's that fine line about boiling over and staying at 100 to 100% the entire time.
Exactly right.
Inbound to the back court, Jerry Cross will get it.
She's marked by Shawn Kitchens for us.
Coming up on 540 to go.
First half on the way leading by 921 12 Frost headed towards the screen went to the left on the dribble and create some free space pass on the inside once again a risk as Von tried to put the ball from didn't get the ball inside the post and that's what they love.
You know, as a result of that meeting of the officials at the scorer's table, Vaughn got his first personal foul involved and unsportsmanlike technical.
And the same with John Nelson.
And this is big because now Dre has three personal fouls with five and a half to go in the first half.
But Gray really hasn't been as aggressive or more successful down here in the first half.
The first team down is going to give her a chance to slow down.
She'll be back in before halftime because we don't need her to score free throw up.
And it's now 2312 third foul by Washington County here.
Carla Brown rookie Shawn Kitchens in the paint scramble court picked up again by Columbia and they're coming out with all the loose balls Spencer driving three on one bounce pass 20 Ms. Brown comes back with it reaching over the back to clear it out and bring it down for Washington County.
Sure Nelson thinks about it, brings it back out looking for foul Brown and a foul called on Columbia.
We talked about the fast and the sure you got bodies falling all over the place.
And I tell you what, man, these young girls are really doing a good job.
Here's your man advantage what happened?
Here's a good transition opportunity.
She made a decision to deep cut.
You allow the defense to play to people.
You make a decision about the free throw line to beat this.
Don't come up for the jump shot.
If they stay back, then you got a good pass.
Valentine Spencer her first baseline jumper no good rebound picked up by Columbia Spencer coming out with it in transition three on two bounce pass Sorry Frost misses the layup It was fought for once again by Vaughn and Carla Brown and we got another whistle performance is Columbia in transition making the bounce pass beautiful textbook million dollar play $5 finish Got to finish those and left a lot of money on the table is what you're said exactly right 2312 for 41 and counting First free throw attempt by Cody von 36% free throws shooter on the season coming into the semifinals next.
The first This Columbia team is so focused.
I mean, these young girls really have a chance to come out here and get this w tonight.
But they knew they had to stay focused but play with a lot of intensity.
The second free throw off the rim, no good back comes Washington County down.
Well, the 2412 coming up on the halfway point of the first half Tyler Brown looking thinks about it brings it back out Shawn kitchens Shere Nelson far wing trying to get any kind of penetration Amani Simmons couldn't penetrate so they try to cross the court zone breaker off the back of the rim no good sorry cross comes out with it once again numbers it's 2 to 4 on three.
Can't find the handle on the floor.
Who's coming up with it?
Still a scramble, No whistle now we got a whistle.
Alternate possession sends it the other way.
You got to be ready to receive the ball.
With crosses in transition.
She has her head on the swivel looking her teammates.
They've got to capitalize because she's dropping.
But we a good dimes for them to actually finish at the basket.
Look a heads up gossip, the teammates being spaced out great bounce pass for her to finish this got to catch it the score coming up halfway point second quarter Columbia still up 20 for 12 pass into a diagonal passing lane intercepted Spencer gets the layup Great rotation out of the trap the defense rotates but still good job Columbia 2612 Columbia now a 14 long diagonal pass to try to create something Brown.
Thinking about penetrating wouldn't happen here.
NELSON Guarded by Spencer, kicks it back out to reset three and a half to go first down whistle on the floor and what happened here gets deal in transition here we go to the basket for two Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum Columbia up surprisingly over the top rank Washington county Golden Hawks 26 to 12 in the second quarter.
And by the way, Georgia Tech whiz kids have teamed up to compete for cash and a U.S. patent with the 2012 adventure Prize at Georgia Tech.
Tune in to GPB this Tuesday at 7 p.m. to see the six finalists demonstrate, defend their innovations in front of a panel of expert judges and see who gets to be this year's champ.
This is Can't Miss TV only on Gp-b the Inventor Prize Tuesday night at seven.
Can a Georgia Bulldog get involved in that?
I can't see why not.
I might not be able to do anything.
And you'd probably be voted by the Russian judge, especially if it's on the flats.
You'd be going to a home game.
There have been some really cool things come out of the indenture prize.
I'm sure they had like a weighted under armor system to help you for rehabilitation that came out of the adventure prize in year one.
So some really cool stuff that is right on the cutting edge that you get to see on that show.
And if you're if you sit.
Parker Right now for Washington County, what do you tell you do stay patient.
This is still a long game.
We get the entire second half.
We got 3 minutes and a half here in the first.
So we just got to be patient.
Just continue to keep being solid.
Don't make the bad plays in the force.
Turnovers, Sean Kitchens around the perimeter.
Colin Brown looking to drive baseline triple teamed in the corner Brings it back out to Murray Murray Nelson Brown once again working that perimeter we talk about containment pressure long three attempt misses everything Spencer comes up with the basketball once again in transition Columbia looking for the long touchdown pass doesn't happen and it's heading back to Washington County.
Same thing happened to Washington County in the semifinal.
They missed their first 18 threes.
They still ended up winning the game by 16 points.
Again, it shows you the experience behind Coach Park and the conference he has and his young girls.
They're still in the game.
It's not over with yet.
It's a long night ahead of them.
Columbia won this quarter 12 to 3 long, seven of them in foul.
The Spencer hit the deck.
Spencer showing the toughness leading the team in scoring at 13.5.
She's also getting to the rebounding count.
Third foul on Colin Brown.
So that's the second Washington County player's in foul trouble once again we know that should Parker can go 910 deep if he needs to and this is going to be one of those times where his bench is tested.
But here's the thing.
I just thought about this.
There's two type of presses going on.
Washington County is playing a full court press.
Now.
I understand they had the same action last night as a full court press.
Columbia, on the other hand, they're pressing that the half court a three quarter, so their girls may be a little bit more fresher because they're playing a different of press in the half court.
First free throw up and good by Spencer 27 to 12 Scale of 1 to 10.
How surprising A very surprising shot that gray on the bench even though she has three fouls, she needs to be on the court because a presence is more viable than her sitting on the bench.
701 Now for Columbia to get it to 28 to 12, two and a half to go first, half Boston County is going to have to take this possession by possession now just to get back into the ballgame, hopefully get it under double digits by the time we get to the break.
Scramble for again sorry Trop comes up with the loose basketball should pull it back out for the reset.
Look at her.
I tell you what.
She's hot.
Guard.
Get to the basket.
Wow.
Put on a clinic and put on a clinic.
Well, one thing missing is the white overcoat, the stethoscope.
I tell you what, man, she is slicing this crisp slice and dice.
3212 Columbia, widening it out to 18 shot in the paint off the elbow, gets the wall, breaks the one of nine points straight by Columbia.
So of course here Nelson trying to be in there the front of the press to knock the ball out of three cross hands as we did a minute and a half to go first half Ebony Johnson working the perimeter for Columbia, a few dribble drive free throw line extended off the glass up and in.
I tell you what, Columbia being textbook with the way they're going sprinting the defense being able to drive once they relax tenacious pressure by all the way through and a foul there looks like that's going to be called on Ebony Johnson.
He's verbally committed to Alabama A&M after this season.
Look at this dribble exhibition that Frost puts on Harlem Globetrotters.
Here I come.
Look at her.
She uses a hand, look low to the ground, good gravity eyes up seeing her teammates know she doesn't make the chest pass makes the bounce pass the bounce pass goes to the defense and also comes from all the sound fundamentals that you've got hanging out with two older sisters who've been on the Columbia squad and a mom who's the head coach.
She knows what to do and what not to do.
Minutes ago, first half, 30 to 40 in Columbia.
Whistle on the inside as Khadijah von hit the deck and a push on launching a counter.
There's what's at stake 63 game win streak 30 to last year 31 this year.
It has been a long successful run for Washington County.
When is the last time that they've been down eight two down and down 19 in any game in the last year?
Last loss they had was a quarterfinals, I want to say third round of 2010.
Wow.
But there's a there's a sign of frustration.
And I'm sure there's going to be some adjustments made at halftime.
But I think if I'm Washington County, I'm going to actually put that full court press on FROST because she's driven right through it, got to contain her force, sort of play on the perimeter more 45 seconds and counting.
Long jump shot three no good rebound font for the inside up lane Two points on the board and easy for you see the Washington County crowd kind of trying to get the girls back on track.
3316 under 20 seconds.
Now coming up on 22nd first half, they're going to call Steph after the transition and scored, try to get out of traffic.
Nicole Coleman to go for one shot, going to halftime with a good comfortable lead.
This is a team in Washington County that's played anywhere from a high fifties into the nineties all season long and they are stuck at 16 points with 20 seconds to go in the first half.
Well, when you have the top player in the state, your go to person on the bench is very hard for everything to work together.
Coming up on 10 seconds in Zurich cross hands ball boot it picked up by Spencer got to do something with it five and counting working the perimeter.
Coming up with any idea and steps there so 4/10 of a second not much for Washington County to do it's mom telling Zuri in I want the ball in your hand starting to do it and intimidating an amazing performance for Colombia against the top ranked team in triple H in Washington County.
Shawn Frost has a lot to be proud of in the first half of 719 against the Golden Hawks of Washington County.
Nikki Noto with Coach Frost.
What's up?
Wow.
one second.
She's still coaching guys.
She's still coaching.
Coach, you're up by 17 right now.
First half, you have to be focusing on some weaknesses right now on your team.
What improvements do you want to see second half?
I want to see it.
Take care of the basketball, each possession.
I want us to be in help position and not foul so much and take care of basketball and get to the basket.
I kept hearing you tell your girls, Get to the basket.
Get to the basket.
Sounds good.
Good luck, coach.
All right, Mark, Time for our halftime show.
Nicki, thanks so much.
We are live on GPB where live the Coliseum.
We are at halftime and the girls to a state championship tournament between Columbia's Eagles and Washington counties.
Coming up at the half, we will talk to both sets of principal and we have some birthday greetings to pass along.
Will also update what fans are talking about on line.
We'll have first half highlights and statistics.
That's all coming up on the Jeopardy championship weekend halftime show coming up after this time, I'm angry.
Welcome back to championship weekend here on the great GPB.
I'm Mark Harmon.
We are at halftime of the girls three eight state championship game between the Columbia and Washington County.
Joining me now is the principal of Washington County, Alan Gray.
Alan, thanks for coming on with us.
And talk a little bit about the vibe at your school right now.
You guys, 63 wins in a row back to the state championship game.
Everybody is very supportive of the young ladies, the school, the community.
Everybody's very excited to be here again for a second year in a row.
I know just a lot of support and a lot of excitement.
Now, Alan here has a little more interest than the normal principal because your daughter is Alicia Gray, who's one of our averaging 32 points a game.
Yes, sir.
You know, we're extremely blessed and extremely thankful to God is blessed with such a talent.
It's something that we certainly don't take for granted.
And we keep reminding her that she has to continue to work hard and and just be thankful for the talent that the Lord blessed with.
What's it like to be a father and a principal to such a talented young lady?
Well, I'm extremely blessed that way, because not only am I a father to Lisa, because I'm the principal and I'm a father, I have like six girls on the team, so I'm kind of a father to all of them.
And it's exciting and I'm thankful for the opportunity.
Okay.
We're going to ask you a question here, not from the Georgia graduation test, but from GPB dads.
We're talking about 16th century poet.
We're going to pop a picture up here.
And who is this guy?
His works are noted for their strong, sensual style and includes sonnets, love poems, religious poems, Latin translations, epigrams, elegy songs, satires and sermons.
Who is this guy?
Who do you think?
16th century poet.
Is it a tongue?
I think it's a It is.
It's John Donne.
You know, your 16th century poet.
You're a well-read man.
I could tell you that.
Well, thanks very much.
And good luck with the second.
Thank you all for having me.
All right.
Time now to check in with Jacqui Britton and see what folks are chatting about online Jacki.
Thanks, Mark.
We've been chatting with viewers from all over the world.
Earlier today, we had Brian who was talking to us from Hong Kong, and then we had one fan in Japan and then a couple of others watching in Virginia and in California.
We still have half of the game left to get through with this one.
And so I want you guys to let me know who you think will take home the title tonight.
Let me know where you're watching from.
Now, let's jump into the results of our poll as they stand right now at the half hour.
Question to fans today is about social media on the court.
A suspension for using cell phones during a game too harsh of a punishment course for student athletes.
And you can see 67% of you say, yes, it's a little bit too harsh.
Only 33%, though, say that it's actually appropriate.
So keep the conversation coming and keep your opinions coming online at GTV dot org slash sports.
Mark, back to you.
Jacki, thanks so much for at halftime here the girls three state championship games alongside us here at the age the principal at South are at Columbia High School.
And I've been asking principals all weekend long about what it feels like to be in the state finals.
But you've got your boys team and your girls team in the state finals.
That's got to be doubly important, I guess.
We're so excited.
On behalf of the Cobb County School District Superintendent.
Dr..
I was just so glad to be here again.
I mean, our coaches have built such a tradition of high excellence.
We expect be here.
I just think the way the program is set up on the kids expects to, you know, compete for a state championship.
They practice hard the way school is set up.
And what we do, I mean, I feel so proud of our students because they're they are student athletes.
They're students first and athlete second.
So proud of just the Korean Test program's national achievement student we have this year.
We've had to pass get Millennial scholars.
And like again I said, I'm just so proud of our students that some of the things that we're doing, so proud of The Career Head program went on to two or three of 30 certified Houston Industry Certified programs with FDLE and FCC, L.A. Culinary Arts, ROTC.
So we're just really excited.
Really good.
Gearing up for the graduation test next week.
So we're happy.
We love the fact that both teams are in it, but we also pleased academics as well.
So we'll make sure I get that talk.
We got to tell our statewide audience that it is your birthday today.
wow.
And what an honor of your birthday.
You get the question about 20th century pontiffs.
So let's take a look at who which pope is this.
He was known as well known as a mountain climber.
And he has a couple of peaks in the Alps named after him.
So we're going to pop his picture up here, I think.
There it is.
Which pope is that?
Pope Pius the 11th.
Pope John Paul, 23rd or Pope John Paul, the first.
Hey, I would think to say I'll just take the ten.
That's absolutely right.
It is your birthday.
You can't be wrong on your birthday, can you?
I hopefully that no, I don't want to be okay.
And, you know, if you win two today, that's a pretty good birthday present.
It would be great.
And I think we can.
I'm I'm so proud of the score right now.
And I know the boys are getting ready as well.
And all year our coach Cross has just kind of set the bar high for them.
And that was their whole goal is to get back here and play the team that they lost to last year.
So it was it was a goal for them.
And, you know, we know the streak two years in a row they haven't lost.
But I think our girls are up for the task.
All right.
Well, happy birthday.
All right.
Thank you.
Okay.
When we come back, we'll have first half highlights and statistics all coming up on TBS halftime show after this timeout.
We are live at the Macon Coliseum.
It is championship weekend here on GPB.
Time now for the second half of this three day girls championship game.
So for the call, we go to my compadres Jon Nelson and Shawn Gold.
Guys.
Thank you very much.
Mark Harmon.
Time to go quickly to the first half highlights.
And it was a story of two separate halves.
Columbia, very dominant.
I tell you what, Columbia did a great job of playing solid basketball here.
It's great attacking the rim.
That was an early basket for two coming up here, pulling up in transition, maybe the first only to go to field goal she had there in the first half.
But Columbia's done a good job of being patient, getting the ball inside and finishing around the basket.
More second chance opportunities.
And that's a plus.
Here's Cross.
I love the way she plays her teammates.
They give them involved in the game.
Get everybody lacrosse again.
There it is.
Her vision is fantastic.
Just take a look at the first half statistics.
Any numbers jump out at you?
Look at the Yukon River support line because it was a field goal.
But the free throws Columbia ten of 14 Washington for six.
You got to love what Columbia's doing.
Almost 35% from the floor.
Now.
There's a lot of free throws for Columbia and it is a tall mountain to climb for.
So, Carter, if they're going to go back to back and back to back undefeated, which would put them in the class of about five different high schools in the history of record keeping when it comes to the USA, Columbia working, walking away left to right here in the second half.
And Spencer, with the first two, you know what she did?
She attacked Grayson the great, couldn't defend Great.
Just kind of open up let it get to the rim great having to play carefully along with Tyler Brown because they both have three fouls for Washington County three marks by Spencer Dish working to shine kitchens kitchens share Nelson looking for a pass inside picked up jumper Good that's what happens when you get great wide open but that's some shots that you get back in the second half because they need her scoring ability 3519 45 seconds and counting into the third quarter here to decide the girls triple A championship last championship for the girls to be decided here on championship weekend on GPP.
Thanks for hanging out with us and thanks for watching However you are watching whether it is on television or on the Internet.
GPB Talk missed by Washington County coming back with it.
Columbia under a minute gone.
Columbia's margin, 16 three frost directing traffic, a lot of space in the paint, shot off the elbow, partially blocked out of bounds Last touch by Columbia and it's going to go back to Washington County I'm sure Coach Parker told his young girls at halftime.
I want everything to go to Lisa Gray.
She's got to touch the ball every possession down the court.
She's going to jaw the defense and she'll get something good happen with an assist for baskets.
Speaking of gray gray on Spencer baseline jumper off the rim no good Two players boxing out for Columbia picked up by Cody von Long Wayward pass saved by Columbia.
But back comes Washington County in numbers Desiree Cross again keeping a basket from getting on the board.
National what she can do defensively Frost done a great job of helping out defensively coming down quick hands stopping the fastbreak quick hands on offense We've seen quick hands defense we just saw up and in for to that issue for sure but it's time to add some height adding forward in the second quarter, getting quality minutes here today you talked about the type of pressures that Washington County was exerting in the first half.
Now they've fallen back on to just play half court defense, contain the dribble, 2 minutes gone third quarter 3521 the margin back to 14 four.
Columbia over Washington County battle at number one versus number two Frost on the cut gets the wall.
You cannot lose frost on the court whether she has the ball or not.
She is the best player on the court between both teams between both teams cross now with five and turnover out of bounds.
Sure Nelson May.
She lost the handle, but she was trying to turn the corner when she got tough in the slick spot there on the court.
Again, defense allows the ball to go into the high post, forced to the basket on the other end, Ball knocked out of bounds by sheer Nelson back on defense and Shug Parker trying to fix a 16 point deficit two and a half minutes into the third quarter.
Trying to go back to back and triple play is one thing about good teams.
Good teams always have a run.
It's just a matter of time before it happens to Washington County.
This was on the inside, the intense face of Chicago.
Parker trying to fix a long deficit.
No one on Fresh could figure out the last time the Washington County was down this much this season, if at all.
The first free throw no good by Victoria Gonzalez.
Just look at the type of press that Columbia has right now.
They started off with 1 to 2 in the first half, three quarter or half court.
Are they going to continue that to fall back into a two, three zone free throw, missed again off the back of the rim.
Washington County coming back now sheer Nelson picked up by Spencer at half court trying to loop pass into gray great dribbles into three different players three point attempt off the back of the rim no good gray the rebound looking inside the paint has a lot the shot whistle on the inside and foul on either you notice every possession here the first first of the second half the ball has gone to Lisa Gray.
She's a good player to hit the open shot but at the same time, find her teammates foul on Victoria, Gonzales said as her third grader, the free throw line makes the first step a smooth stroke into the game.
Ebony Johnson replacing Gonzalez, who will sit with three.
So you're talking Hickson, Vaughn, Spencer Frost, and now Ebony Johnson in for Columbia.
Tyler Brown sitting for Washington only because she has three fouls picked off.
And look at that hands by Maya Spencer to prevent the two there by Sean Kitchen again Washington County changing their press kick first half they were pressing after miss shots now they get it back on a plate and deny the passing lanes, allowing opportunities like this to get in transition.
Sean kitchens to the free throw line the five currently for Washington county College.
Brown Sean Kitchens Tanisha Ford this is how you come back on leads you get steals you get free throws you score when the clock is not moving.
Sure Nelson and Gray finish two five for Washington County.
She makes the back end 3723.
Sorry, fast dribbling up the floor.
She has put on a display offensively, defensively, ball handling.
She has done it all in this so far to get the offense moving.
Maya Spencer Jumper no good.
The ball's going to stay with Columbia so nice touch by Washington down Spencer loop on the inbound to Ebony Johnson back out to Zuri Frost Spencer trying to bounce it inside intercepted by sheer Nelson dribbling down the floor bounce pass looking for a cutter on the baseline and dementia Ford too fast turnover for Washington County we had the best player in the state right size you got to get the ball to your best player that's great Got to get the ball in her hands.
Eighth turnover for Washington County.
And it looks like Parker is going to call a throw, talk things over a little bit.
So once again, the same situation that we had earlier in the game, for those who watched the girls games before trying to come back from a big deficit, taking it possession by possession, you have to take a throw to talk things through.
You take a throw to talk things through.
Well, she's telling girls, don't let up.
Keep the intensity.
You've got a good half going right now, a good game plan, but you got to keep the intensity then Texas is going to carry on and on and on.
And we're down, roster down and what she wants.
And you talk about the great handcuffing job that Columbia's defense has done on Dre.
They knew what they were getting into with the player of the year and they have really put stop to her in this game with 1 to 2 zone is really helped out because she's also one against five.
And she's going to they're going to come out and continue to keep forcing that type of pressure.
Sorry, Cross high off the glass no good Tyler Brown rebound fought for.
They're going to call a whistle.
It looks like it's going to be a foul on Cody given Columbia now two of seven in the third quarter, 29%.
Washington County one of 4.5% fouls on ball and that's her second to go.
Her 13 points that she scored in the first half has not scored a bucket here in the second.
Integrase has those rocketing passes early.
Frost looked like she wanted to cut and come down the baseline Maya Spencer in Gray's hip pocket jumper free throw line no good fun to the rim.
Back of the rim and back comes Columbia at the halfway point of the third quarter.
Washington County down 1337 23 looking for an entry on the inside jury.
Frost kicks it back out to Maya Spencer started by Imani Simmons almost a careless pass there Frost off the elbow looking for anyone in the paint intercepted Kyla Brown a big high dribble and the basket won't not fall off of that shot Looks like an alternate possession Amani Simmons chasing after it with the given and it looks like it's going to stay with Washington County Lady Frost first turnover of the game trying to come in and pass it high.
Well she's been very successful passing over the bounce pass through the pressure, through the defense and with that whistle we are going to take a break.
327 to go in the third, the triple A championship hanging in the balance on GPB.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center.
Shug Parker of Washington County trying to correct a 14 point deficit.
Here's something for you here.
Two of GPB Sports football Friday's in Georgia, bigger and better than ever, kicking off August 31st with the battle of the big Chicken, a double helping of high school sports action.
Live from Cantrell Stadium at McEachern High School and a return of all your Friday night favorites from Are You Starting to Rent?
Check out a preview of high school sports with some guy named John Nelson and John's, Georgia.
From Ringgold to Valdosta, Savannah to Lagrange here to has you covered with Football Fridays in Georgia starting August 31st on the great GPB.
So what does Shug Parker drawn up down 14 everything he he's got to take time to figure out what can get his team ticking what can he do defensively and offensively.
He's just trying to find something to get his team going then bounce Pass Looking for Gray who did touch last.
It's like it's going to stay with Washington County and they're going to reload.
Washington County only made three of their last 12 from the floor, Columbia.
Not much better, though, for their last ten points.
Great top of the circle extended guarded by Hickson Moving screen looks like that time set by the Miesha Ford and it's a turnover heading back Columbia's way.
Columbia did something different the first time ever going man to man all game but it was a switching man to man almost like a matchup zone was a little different.
Look for Washington Count.
Looks like it's going to be inbound in front of the Washington County bench with Vaughn, who fell into Miesha Ford has her first Eric pass those three very fast legs if they're going to hit the deck with it.
And where are we going to call the foul?
It's an either going to be on frost or is it going to be on Sean Kitchens, Missouri.
Frost took a hard look, but he came right back to Dish.
He got a lift off in there.
She's the first one on the floor, Both girls going for the ball.
That's what I love, that I left all caught up in there.
Cross is being tough staying in the game and call the second foul for he crossed on the evening Gray looking to penetrate kicks it back out to Amani Simmons Simmons guarded by cross looking for any kind of help into the paint off the window no good bad it up in the air picked up by Davion Hickson and into the hands of Zuri from past half court under 3 minutes to go third quarter Columbia up 14 in the girls triple a championship jump shot layup This is everything Maya Spencer comes up with the ball but loses it out of bounds.
Not the way you want it.
Not to pass.
And what you see post falls on the sideline intent Spencer coming out of the game taking the ill advised shot It's one of those handles right Yeah you don't need that shot 244 to go in the third quarter.
You don't need that shot.
Don't be the hero.
Hickson will sit Samya Smith into the game number 21 for Columbia and she is matched up right now against Shere Nelson Spencer looking to shield Gray.
She does great.
Gets the ball anyway no good rebound picked up by Columbia deja bomb frost long outlet pass and they try to create something out of the block from behind with a great play by Lisa Grant Haywood Two good plays on both ends of the court cross for the one hand long pass but Washington County not giving up come back with the block frost going for the kill shot and then look he shows up once they settle the play here Drake doing a good job showing her tenacity defensively WHISTLE and a good count Ebony Johnson with the two gets the roll to get it back to 16 at 3923 to 15 for the third.
Here's your looks Can't get caught behind in the post Great call by the official me Why yes free throw line to try to complete the three point play Johnson a 72% free throw shooter on the year coming in gets the three point play lead back to 17 Alicia Gray working it up the floor Dangerous angle pass down on the baseline Damani Simmons in trouble in traffic ball knocked out of bounds by Maya Spencer I'm starting to sense the intensity of Columbia starting to pick up and I see Washington County starting to go down almost like a seesaw and that's not good for Washington County because Columbia has so much intensity.
They could add a little bit more extra to this league inbound Washington County will try and reset share.
NELSON And up high to tiara Murray Murray the cutter near corner three point shot good it will fall down that time for Shawn Ketchum as good basketball patience found in the open city there in the wings remember Washington County had the same problems in the semi's hitting from three and then they caught fire.
Fourth quarter Lisa Drake comes out with a turnover, drives the floor off the glass, winning no picked up by Columbia two players on the same fighting for three Frost ends up with the ball but she's now double team with pressure off the back.
Wow Look at her.
Just going through the defense.
She was looking to make a move and got caught midair.
Tristan, I tell you what, it may not a finish is a good point because the ball but the way she got there, it was pretty fantastic.
She was trying to get from A to B before that, she was ready for A, Is that the right one?
20 and counting third quarter, Washington County launching another three partially blocked picked up on the inside.
Lisa Drake for the easy to miss Great solo she can do she's a great score she's got to pick it up replaces Jeff and gets the rebound and put back up to take the game down to 12 a minute five and counting Third quarter can Washington County cut it to under ten to get to the final 8 minutes to have a shot and cut this lead foul on the play by Shawn Kitchens as Frost was trying drive and here's how Washington County is trying to get back into this one There's your three the first shot and then we're going to try it again from three.
And look who is under for the two.
That's right.
The best score in Georgia.
That's how we ended up with a 12 point game.
61 seconds to go for the third Spencer inbounding to zero.
He drops third quarter turnovers.
Columbia five, Washington County, three bombs looking for help from anywhere.
Almost double team in the corner get it back to the point guard might want to pull the ball out.
Columbia one shot This is a one shot opportunity possession Spencer Hickson back up to Frost guarded by Scheer Nelson cutting in off the glass and in Wow.
When you got the ball in her hands, you can take an opportunity any time.
She just gets into the paint and wheels looping pass thinking about another three gray off a screen trying to get out of trouble in the corner.
Pass intercepted by frost Frost That's creative look at that right now misses the bunny.
Three Columbia players fighting for its second chance.
No third chance.
Knowing a whistle, they would look at the possession, look was down here five white jerseys in the paint, three black jerseys in the paint, five against three.
You see who's been aggressive team right now that's Columbia.
And look at this.
You're talking about what Zuri Frost has been doing all day long, just witnessing them piloting, Wheeling, getting to the paint, less than 12 seconds to go in the third up 14 Columbia, a little more than 8 minutes from knocking Washington County from the land of the undefeated 63 game win streak on the line defending championship on the line for the Golden Hawks.
Taylor Mom to give her daughter just a quick breather going into the fourth quarter that she's earned.
Mark, that was smart.
You got it.
11.7 seconds.
You got the timeout coming up into the third quarter.
Give it about a minute and a half rest.
Let her finish out strong.
Samya Smith in the game for the replacement second free throws up rimming out no good under 12 seconds.
One last shot for Washington County as we get to the end of the third three attempt wide open off the back of the rim.
No good second chance.
You're going to have to get it up quick.
Ball knocked out of bounds.
Alicia Gray couldn't hang on to it a little more than a second.
So it looks like Columbia may just inbound and sit for the third.
I'm going to try it anyway.
The big heave is short.
We are through with 24 minutes.
8 minutes.
Go to decide.
The girl's triple A championship.
Does it go to the Kat County or does it go back to Sanders Bill?
The answer when we come back from the Macon Coliseum here on GPB.
No me iPhone.
I see you give me some more brandy.
My God, you bring your man this weekend.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center plex.
14 point deficit for Washington county to come back from if they are going to repeat and that is the date of their last loss, 2010 second round to Spalding when they lost 6457.
And that's what they're coming back from 63 in a row coming into this game, top ranked and 888 facing the number two team in Columbia, the 2010 champs who beat Barber of Atlanta, holding Barber to two points in the fourth quarter without getting a field goal.
Barber had to come back in that 2010 game, couldn't do it.
So you pass two defending champs right here, squaring off in 2012, 20 you coming out in this in the sprint mix offense.
You can run flex tight and you can run at some time off the clock.
That's what they're doing.
Third quarter numbers, rebounds leading 2515 in the third, Columbia, three of 11 27% from the floor, Washington County, 29% at four of 14 overall.
Columbia hitting 40% from the floor.
Waco, 32 dribble off the turnover loses the handle in the paint on the floor.
Zuri frost again to four in the corner.
Frost comes out with it for Columbia.
Malaysia tries to steal it back, Cross gets it back from break two on five and she pulls it out.
You got to love her as a point guard.
You just got to love what she does.
She controls the entire game with the ball.
And Columbia calls it timeout.
Shawn Tate Frost.
There's a 63 game winning streak that Columbia is trying to knock.
Waco off The perch from.
Shawn Frost of Columbia calls a throw probably because the game's a little too out of control for her liking.
Well, you know what?
Sometimes you want to coach and that's good.
And she's doing a great job of coaching her team.
Time is score, late game, late possessions, what to do, what not to do.
There's so much to the game right now that she's talking about to use young girls.
Look, she has all the attention and she's talking and she's talking to a daughter, talking to the point guard.
You know, you talk about Zuri Frost, what a game she has had.
She has been all over offensively and defensively on the floor.
We get on the floor getting the understanding she is tough.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you're a point guard at home, watch her.
She doesn't give up.
She keeps fighting.
Attacking the rim takes it from Alisha Grady, get it back into the paint, a whistle and a foul on Washington County as Columbia tried to drive to boost this 14 point lead.
Gonzalez driving into the paint foul on sheer Nelson is her third Missouri cross.
Once again we talk about the straw that stirs the drink.
Jerry Frost has done absolutely that all day long.
That's what that drink has to be, a tall drink because she's handled a tall order tonight.
She she's handle she's handled the press.
She's been defensively active, the first of all on the court.
She does it on second free throw it up and in for Gonzalez 4328.
The margin 15 a minute and a half into the fourth quarter world championship, the last championship on the girls side to be decided this weekend here on GPB into the paint off the rim.
No good, fought for five bodies inside for Waco and for Columbia coming out with it.
Maya Spencer, she's looking for any kind of space.
There's a foul inside on Alicia Gray.
John, you ask about the timeout that was just called.
That's exactly what was told.
We don't need to score.
Let's take that time.
This we got a wide open shot or a layup.
Bring the ball out, utilize the clock.
And that is the fourth foul on 15 Alicia Gray And obviously she is not going to sit play with what she got.
Right.
So you don't have it anymore.
She's had a tough night tonight, almost four one against five because she had the ball.
All five defenders rashly keying in on it, 11 points on the night for Gray, considering she had 40 in the semifinal against North half free throw up and in Spencer now with 13 so Columbia the sheer Nelson dribbling trying to find someone Carla brown jumper off the rim no good picked up outlet quickly Spencer then thinks better of it Cross-court pass dangerous to frost who will catch it and slow it down Spencer knew exactly one person wanted to throw the ball too.
That's crossed.
Fred Moses pass cut move Use the clock.
That's all he wants to do.
Vaughn Back out Missouri.
Zuri five, 40 and counting Regulation Columbia nursing a 17 point lead, trying to work the clock closer to a championship, their second in three years.
Hickson It's up by sheer.
Nelson Plenty of space in the paint looking to drive and they're going to count it and run.
I think the gas in the tank for Washington County is starting to let out and all and you want to cater that also to what they did last night.
You can see when you play it too tight defensively, you're not going to get there early.
You're going to get there late.
That's where the foul came for two and one opportunity.
Foul is on Tiara Murray.
That is her fourth one of the things teams that press for every opportunity and I think these kids have hit a brick wall after last night's W free throw up no good form 728 520 and counting trying to create in the paint losing the handle Spencer all alone you got to be a timeout.
You need a timeout right now coach Western county you have have a timeout get control of the game because you don't want to get out of hand should Parker does exactly that the game now 21 points in arrears the Washington County 49 to 28 is back and no one thought this was going to happen except those in Columbia come the high schools huddle.
Those young girls came out here with one thing on mind win the state championship.
Washington County the most the least amount of points they've scored in any win this year is 59.
They've Done that twice, 510 to go regulation.
They're barely halfway there against Columbia.
And the defense that has been stifling since its opening two I think the tire on that bus has now deflated, not in a negative way, but those zone girls have had a great run.
But I think they've hit a brick wall this afternoon, this evening, this Columbia team is playing with a lot on their mind, a lot of their hearts.
And you got to also give all the credit to Strauss Cross has done a great job as facilitating the offense, control of the offense, and also dictating defense with a being and high intensity nine out run for Columbia the last 218 because this was a 12 point game and all of a sudden it's now very quickly back up to 21.
The runs come they come, they come in bunches, as my dad used to say.
And that's one thing Columbia wanted to do, continue to keep wear this team down defensively and Carter on the mistakes that they have and get easy baskets in transition.
You always listen to your dad, right?
I tell you what, he's one of the all time winning coaches in the state of South Carolina.
On the court and off.
Always listen to your father.
Rule number one.
5 minutes to go.
Fourth quarter girls, triple A championship to decided between number one, Washington County, number two, Columbia.
The matchup everyone thought was going to happen and did happen.
Columbia's defense has been in Washington county's face all day and there it is, zuri frost keeping the ball away from Alicia gray fouled the inside.
Looks like it's going to be an offensive foul call on Washington County.
That's about a 6 to 7 inch difference between frost and gray.
But frost is so intense she's going to take on that.
That's out on the ball handlers when they're on defense.
They're not necessarily looking at the eyes.
They're looking at the waist, the feet and the basketball.
They're looking pretty much from the waist down to figure out where they're going to be going.
Yeah, exactly right.
Frost to Spencer out.
Hi, Lisa.
Great guarding for 20 and counting Regulation.
Good.
There's Frost once again picked up by Shaun Kitchens Frost looking baseline kicks it back out to the elbow once again to Spencer and they spread it back out once more.
There's good basketball This is a high post delay game type of catch and a lot of teams run this just to delay the game, run some time off the clock.
Well, he is doing a great job of executing the game plan.
Dixon, Missouri Frost guarded by Colin Brown.
Back out to Spencer who's picked up by Alisha Greg Once again there's Nixon in here.
NELSON Now back out to Frost who's now getting double team went for the foul and the slight didn't it.
And it's back out up high empty post for the easy to take the job it's good to give up touch it didn't want to fouls was left to him to come in and score get a chance to go back down to have offensive possession for Washington County 5128 three and a half to go Columbia well on their way to getting their second in the next three years and knocking Washington County off a very high perch rank looking for any help where he can find it collar Brown gets it away from Maya Spencer three point attempt is off the back of the rim no good Brown with the offensive rebound in the paint once again back from no good and Columbia will slow it down and bring it up the floor Columbia out rebounding Washington county in the game 27 to 14.
Wow in a game that they're up 23 and it looks like Shante Frost is going to call timeout 3 minutes and 3 seconds away from their second title in the last three years, setting the table, perhaps for the boys team as they go up against Drew in the game.
Following us here on GPB Columbia, Andrew, Dr. Phil McCrary, we've seen what he's been able to do on the boys side.
We're now seeing what Shante and Ashanti Frost has been able to do on the girls side, a dominating performance for Columbia.
I can't think of any other adjective to use.
I tell you what, you're exactly right.
They're dominating is the key word after intensity, because this has been an intense game.
Both teams talked about the first 3 minutes of the game.
They want to go.
They want to challenge one another, like shooting out of a cannon.
But I think Columbia was able to shoot that intense a little bit more tougher and harder than Washington County.
So then when you think about the flip side, Washington can show Parker, obviously, he's trying to hammer a point home.
But what is that point?
Well, right now, the point is finish with some dignity, finished with some pride.
We've got to continue to play in hard way where we've had a great run.
He's not seeing that.
He's still trying to coach possession by possession.
And that's what good coaches do.
He's going utilize his time out for the next 3 minutes, the 3 seconds, trying to coach his team.
So he's got 303 to come back from a 23 point deficit.
Maya Spencer is going to inbound fourth quarter field goal percentages.
Columbia 75%.
Three of four.
Washington County is zero for five and have posted note on that row for Kevin Barnes.
He'd open up a new PAC for the final game.
Looks like you already have.
You're way ahead of me.
Way up top.
Extend it to 56 and counting ball knocked out of bounds and Spencer was trying to handle it by sheer Nelson and that's coming up can Columbia get the sweep happened a lot in 2010 happened twice in 2011 with schools in the Georgia High School Association.
Columbia wins here.
The boys have a chance for the sweep and triple play against Drew an up and coming new school.
So joining Columbia and the boys coming up next on GPB and a whistle on Columbia creates a turnover.
I tell you.
What about the basketball in DeKalb County?
yeah, just DeKalb County, Miller Grove, Boys and Girls winning.
Now, Columbia Girls said they're going to win in their boys this evening.
Hey, what's good basketball in this state?
And who did Nolan Grove play in?
The Girls and Boys final Southwest camp, both boys and girls.
So that DeKalb County is putting out some good basketball players.
Zoe Frost trying to dribble up the floor foul.
I think it's going to be on Imani Simmons on the reaching as we hit the 238 mark in regulation.
And you talk about this Columbia squad, 90% of the kids on the roster, math, science and technology emphasis team GPA with a 3.2 and it's a magnet school you talk about GPAs Victoria Gonzalez at 3.5 hits in a 3.2 Von A 3.0.
Zoe Frost 3.2 GPA.
But here's the thing.
The way they have a tech, this game is definitely going to show you how they're going to tech, like they're going to take it and run with.
And don't be afraid of two and a half approaching left in regulation in the girls triple final 5328 Columbia over Washington County.
Lock on the inside.
Looks like they're going to call a whistle and a foul probably.
Victoria Gonzalez And that would be her fourth.
Well, these girls from Columbia are not giving up.
They're not going to let up.
They're going to play 40, 38 minutes.
32 minutes, gives me a basket ball from the beginning to the end.
15 foul on Columbia, Washington County with nine first free throw by Imani Simmons.
No good at it.
Major credit goes to what Coach Frost has done, how she prepared these young girls for tonight's contest.
Victoria Gonzalez will sit the senior six footer right now heading to Howard 13 run for Columbia, Missouri.
Frost will bring it into the frontcourt.
McTavish Hickson Cross guarded by Simmons.
And once again, you're going to see that extended weaving stall unless there's something available.
Drive no good second chance, second shot, no good.
Third attempt is in by Khadija Von.
I'll tell you what shows you this.
Columbia.
Just staying focused.
Staying focused, Staying focused, gray left handed rims around and out.
And that seems to be pretty much a microcosm of Washington County's night graded completely.
So, again, let's say when you press and the type of press they run in the fourth quarter, you can't sustain that type of energy for two straight nights back to back.
It's very tough, very hard.
It just goes to the brick wall there early in the first half, never got a chance to get their second win.
Columbia working that extended stall, looking for any kind of opportunity, but not in a rush under 90 seconds before Columbia gets the time.
Hickson dribbling in front of the Columbia bench, looking inside off the glass, swimming no good rebound font for on the inside collar.
Brown had.
So did Khadijah Von.
Let's see where the foul goes.
It's like the fouls on Hickson and bring it down to the other end.
It's a highlight what college football is doing.
She's over here still coaching.
She's a competitor.
She knows she wants to win, but she wants to win it in style and in class.
Fouls on Von, her third whistle and another foul 5528 67 seconds.
Let's talk about Washington County and what they've been able to do just to get to this point.
When you're looking at one season, you win 32 in a row.
That's a great feat.
It's great.
Then you come back when 31 in a row to get to this point here, free throw off the back of the rim.
No good as we had a minute to go regulation before gets the triple play title.
It says a lot about what Coach Parker has been able to do and also talks about how Alicia Gray has been maturing as an athlete.
Well, I remember going to coaching for coach, she says.
Skip from Duke made one great statement.
She's very easy to get to the top, but the hardest for Duke basketball was to stay at the top because not everybody's going to try to pull you down from all sides.
And that's one thing that coaches are at Washington County.
He knows that everybody wants to experience him, play with him.
Everybody's going to play their best game, which is Washington County.
And these young girls have definitely put up a good fight.
Just were able to finish tonight versus Columbia.
The run is now at 15.
There goes Spencer and Hickson.
Spencer back next year picks and back for two more years.
Zuri Frost, the senior she gets that attention because you want to go out the game.
And miss Columbia High School Missy H.S.
of 2012 is going to be in there for the last minute unless there's another whistle gray with the three hits it and she has a look in her eyes like well it's about time 5531 24 point game as we get to 40 seconds frost looking jumper is no good whistles on the inside Nikki where are you guys?
I'm reporting by the official Columbia Land section.
I cannot hear myself right now, but you don't have to make all you have to do is cheer and they're not going anywhere because you know, the girls are Glasgow title.
The boys are coming.
I don't go anywhere.
That sounds like a tease.
She's really good at this TV thing.
That's a tease.
You're really good at that.
Nikki.
Free throw up and good.
5731, about 30 seconds to go.
Shawn Frost getting ready for that second title in three years and Triple H once again, we talked about number one versus number two.
Columbia clamped down from the beginning.
Exactly dominated tell tape, but just hats off to what Washington County has done.
That's the first thing I want to say.
You can't do what they've done without having good players, good coaching and good support.
But Columbia has come in tonight and.
They're going to be the ones to take home the state championship trophy collar.
Brown shooting gets the jumper with 16 seconds to go to make it 5733 Frost will inbound.
Alisha Gray will chase and Frost will bring it into the frontcourt as we're under ten jumpers short.
Sorry, Frost leaving everybody off.
She tried to save it.
1.4 seconds to go.
Washington County will inbound and that is they say we'll put a bow on.
There you go.
Three eight state champs Shante Frost breaking out the dress blues Washington County great season 63 win streak in a row is knocked off the boards.
Columbia your chance second time in three years And we talk about what this means for DeKalb County basketball.
Columbia a powerhouse when it comes to boys.
The girls the last three years has been eight, have been able to do it.
And that is the end of a dominating performance right there.
You wind up getting the rain home.
You're well coached.
Both girls listen to what the game plan was.
They execute it.
They came out, challenged Washington County with intensity and they came home with the WS pods.
It's been fun, big guy.
I love this.
This has been fantastic.
Georgia high school basketball, girls basketball, matching what the boys have been doing for a long time.
Trophy presentation coming up triple.
A championship has been decided.
Columbia takes it back to the Cass County.

That's fine.
You is going to welcome back to the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Cineplex.
Girls triple A championship decided dominating performance by Columbia 5733 over Washington County.
