Georgia Public Television presents the 2001 Georgia High School Association Girls State Basketball Championship.
Major funding for this broadcast is made possible in part by Georgia's natural gas IBEW Local 613 Georgia Touchstone Energy Cooperative, and by South Trust Bank lies in the Center flex in Macon.
It's the girls triple-A state basketball championship between the Gainesville Lady elements and the real reps of Northeast.
And welcome again everybody to Championship Weekend.
I'm Jim Tanaka.
We just continue to roll on single and double in the books triple play coming up, Then it's quad and five.
But right now the triple AA championship.
Let's go downstairs.
Dave Cohen and Teresa Edwards.
Hello, guys, and thanks a lot, Jim.
And hello again, everyone.
Dave Cohen, along with the former Georgia lady, Bulldog and five time Olympian Teresa Edwards.
What a game we've got here in the state, triple-A girls.
It's going to be northeast and Gainesville and what a road these two have taken to get here to the final game.
And we'll go ahead and take a look at how these two teams played to get here to the Macon Coliseum and the Gainesville Lady elephants with a win over South Side actually to get things started, followed with a win over Hart County, then Madison County, and then they beat Dodge by nine here in the semifinals.
There we see a little bit of video, Tasha Humphrey a developing story, Teresa and she's a little bit under the weather right now coming into this game.
The biggest challenge today is going to be for Gainesville and Tasha Humphreys.
Her sickness is taking part in her game.
Earlier today, we heard in a little dehydrated ice tummy straight from assistant coach Brenda Hill, which is her mother.
Also a little bit there on Jasmyn Benson, the five seven senior, pretty good three point shooter leads the team with 44 threes on the season.
Jasmine is really going to have to step up today in case touches and then in full gear in full swing of her game today.
So also northeast will be the opponent for Gainesville.
They committed 23 and six and they beat Franklin County in their last game out 5746.
Started out with a win over Mitchell Baker, followed up with a win over Effingham County and then beat Waynesboro before getting in to the semifinals.
So should be a good match up here this afternoon as we see James there she is.
Has been there most consistent player and leading scorer this season.
I think she's going to come out, plays an aggressive defense.
Also, we have Jennifer Harper, who's headed to the College of Charleston this kid is going to do her job as well.
She has made a significant difference in the postseason to really the lone team leader.
She's the lone senior on this team.
Yes, she is.
And that's a tough plus for the team in a sense that they do have a returning team that's going to have some experience this season.
She comes in averaging 14 points per ballgame as we get set for the girls state triple-A championship game.
The Red elephants of Gainesville at 27 and fourth and Northeast at 23 and 641 class triple line is the starting lineup for Gainesville today.
Jasmine Benson At one guard, the senior semi going to the back court by Mandy Smith, Westmoreland, Humphrey and Hurst going to make up the front line for the lady Wren Olsen They got guys in first and small five foot nine Sophomore Double zero.
Katherine Hurst and forwards five foot four.
Sophomore Number 22.
Maddie Smith at Center six foot three.
Freshman Number 30 plus up three and guard a five foot seven.
Senior Number 12, Jasmine Jackson at guard five foot four.
Sophomore Number 21 Sparrow West Moreland and Gainesville Coach Matt said he'll.
And now we're going to see whether it will be in the Keys.
And James at one guard he'll be going to the back court by Shea Carrington along with Sanford, Howard and Harper up front, Jennifer Harper, the six one senior and forward five foot ten sophomore number 3107 and six foot one senior and number 32, Jennifer has gone five eight slots for her 23 extra.
James and dance numbers.
Well, go.
Oh and on that starting lineups coming up the state triple-A championship Gainesville and northeast back with the opening tip right after this on TV advanced at the DHS.
A boys and girls basketball championships is provided in part by the following you're watching Members supported GPB, your PBS station, bringing you the best.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Macon Coliseum here in Macon, Georgia.
Dave Cohen along with Teresa Edwards.
Coming up, it's the Gainesville run Allison and the way the rest of Northeast right now.
Let's send it courtside to Jon Nelson.
Jump.
The way things have been going for Alvin Copeland, he said he's not going to change anything defensively just because Tasha Humphries in the Ballgame also talked to the folks on the sidelines for Gainesville.
They saw Tasha Humphries about 95%, of course, for this final exam.
I think they've rounded up the great coach.
Edwards.
Do you agree with that?
Coach Copeland said.
And gone with what you know to get you here?
Do you try something different because of that one special player?
Well, I tell you what, coach is so skillful.
He's very smart.
Every team in the state is doing everything they can possibly throw at this young lady, and it has not helped.
So he's a smart coach to play his game and to pick us up.
It is won by Gainesville, Gainesville in the red uniforms and northeast in their white uniforms.
Gainesville with the ball first and it's going to be a jumper.
Top of the key looked like it was partially blocked Tasha Humphrey took that shot and northeast will try to save it from going out of bounds.
They do and they'll send the ball to him, to Letitia James to bring it across the midcourt line.
Northeast is looking for national championship state championship today, but the road will have to go through.
Tucker Sanford shot is up in his hand good offensive rebound by Howard is made good and the rebound brought down by Toshiya Humphrey.
Interesting the northeast is known for their defensive pressure, but they're not really flush from that first run at this time.
Jasmine Benson started to make a move and fire the ball in the corner and back to Benson on the right side.
She's double team and it's Carol Westmoreland.
What's that allowed?
Amanda Smith Back to Westmoreland, inside to Humphrey.
Turn around.
Baseline Jumper is short you know, down, back and being guarded by one person.
She gets her hands on that ball.
It seems that two people are drawn to her.
That's going to be an interesting thing to follow throughout this game today.
Letitia James going to work the ball in the middle.
Jennifer Harper, the recipient of that pass, gets fouled First pass.
Let's see if Jennifer is going to step up with the leadership today and leave this team, lob the ball back into Harper.
Turn around baseline jumper No good pocket Henry down with the rebound ball comes up ahead The running shot is up there by Benson It's no good and the rebound on the other end brought down by Harper Nice match matchup in the middle with Harper and Humphrey Very good match up You got a freshman and a senior this Letitia James shot out on the perimeter is up by Harper.
It's no good that's the direction that Sanford is going to be interesting Find out if Harper is going to use that experience and leadership that she's developed over the years with the freshmen like Humphries had so much consistency for a team this season.
Sarah Westmoreland in the corner finds Benson lobs it back out front again.
Benson On the left side, close by, a double team dumps it off to the middle.
Short jumper is up.
It is no good.
Well, they're taking a good shot to the basket and just not falling yet.
Catherine Hurst took that shot five nine sophomore it down in the middle ball deflected and taken away by the lady rebels.
It's Jasmine Benson up for the loose ball.
Well this is in case anything you see there is defense there's a steal drive.
That's your game and they're going to stand in the passing lanes only no votes.
Sanford gets the first points of the afternoon for either ballclub and Northeast as the early lead in a23 zone defense early lobs.
Crosscourt Nketiah Howard the freshman and will hold onto the ball in the first basket.
It's going to allow them all to breathe a little here.
Now we can play some basketball now the 454 to go here in the first quarter.
Letitia James on the right side going to let it fly.
Shut up.
No good.
It was just inside the three point line offensive rebound is up by Howard The shot no good gets along rebound tries to go back a break BLOCK The freshman is a black and a senior soccer I don't think that'll last all game it wouldn't be well against Dodge County Humphrey had 20 points and seven blocked shots.
He picks up her first block here this afternoon in Bobcats comes in curl up shot put up there by Sanford No good offensive rebound by northeast James shot is up no good Got a whistle and a foul before the shot interesting stat already is northeast is getting second and third looks at the basket whereas Gainesville really isn't northeastern with a reputation for that pressure defense and so far it's worked pretty good against Gainesville almost traveling violation in there, but it goes unnoticed by Jasmine Benson.
They lock down low, the shot is up, it is no good.
The rebound is brought down by Harper.
Here comes James frontcourt trying to lob underneath Ball picked off and it's stolen by Shamir Neal here's Humphrey Long shot is up it is no good and a rebound by northeast rebound picked up there by Shea Carrington and he gets wrapped up I think the rest of his teammates talk to him for his teammates, a feeling that they are going to have to pick their game up.
And she really is kind of loosening and the touchdown is taking her out of game at the moment.
Just a two to nothing ballgame now, 345 to play first quarter.
This is going to be an important sign of the impact the toss is going to have on her team.
Sitting on the bench, Letitia James runs into some trouble, gets the ball out front.
Fatigue.
Sanford has the basket stolen taken away by Benson and they've it comes in handy dealing it.
Give me a little lead in here That's a very hit.
Here you see the drive into the lane, boss slapped away.
And then this fourth slap.
That's great leadership there.
That's the momentum and that's the drive and the dedication and her teammates are going to have to have today in the scheme.
Shamier Neal, top of the circle.
Benson Left wing going to go baseline her runner is short and the rebound brought down by Nikita Howard.
Dave I think Benson is feeling the pressure, filling in and making sure the team gives you some discomfort.
It's going to be a turnaround jumper by Harper in the middle.
No good Rebound comes down to the lady red elephant.
Westmoreland comes across the line, gets the ball to Benson trying to go in the middle.
Laurin Niles, checking in at that last stop is in place.
Got us up.
It is no good.
And the rebound brought down by Northeast, it's a two to nothing ballgame.
Northeast leading and we're down to 235 to go.
First quarter long pass intended for fatigue.
Sanford underneath she got jumped from behind ball goes out of bounds we're going have a whistle and a foul.
You got to wonder what Gainesville and the bench and the players are thinking right now but they really look like they're still to this game.
They're motivated to feel confident or look confident that they can do this.
Alvin Copeland 634 wins, 600.
That's impressive.
Here's the shot up underneath.
No good rebound.
Letitia James going to fire it back out of the way.
Jump off the iron It's no good.
Rebound deflected out of bounds Last touch by Jennifer Harper the Gainesville basketball substitution they're going to bring Tasha Humphrey back onto the floor.
Katherine Harris goes to the Gainesville bench running.
The point now is Mandy Smith with the ball up here Neil back to Smith comes over and the ball kicked out of bounds.
Benson tried to feed it inside to Humphrey, but it's Crescent style of play that Northeast has possessed all season.
Unsurprising, really.
STEVENSON Back in the zone, Benson takes the Imbibes pass goes back in the corner Long jumper for three it is up it is no good by Smith rebounded by northeast but they cannot keep it from going out of bounds.
It will stay with Gainesville Smith the lob pass in the lane Humphrey's jumper is good you see just we're talking about a complete package in this player so now we're tied at two There's a steal on the other end as Benson gets back and picks off the four for ten Tosha Humphrey going to fire for three.
Just missing off the front of the iron the rebound brought down it by 31 looking Sanford's I'll tell you what I guess none of us are too sick to see we them back it into Harper Harper in the lane cover is up to start off the front of the iron offensive rebound by Mercedes to set up that time by Carrington No good now Sally down to four guys in court Nice looking slick by big race in it Oh Vincent is doing it was a great rebound alley pass from Tyson Great has a basketball she's really smart for a young player I really can't believe the magnitude of her game mentally right now she has a lot of basketball knowledge Nice drive strong drive to the finish Got rid of it just in time and they collide with the cameraman underneath the basket.
That was a very sweet left hand free throws up.
No good big offensive line.
Oh, take it away there by Jennifer Harper.
Two big girls inside battling for that ball.
Letitia James front court spins on the right wing, drives in the lane goes up the show locked.
I feel the same way Vincent.
I think you had a good book on that one.
Oh, that was great defense.
He kept Lovastatin trying to burn and just went up in front of her.
Jasmine Benson whistled for that foul.
That's her first year at the line.
A lot on that free throw that gets hard off the back iron at 4 to 2 ballgame.
Second one, the same thing.
Jackson comes down with the rebound off the second missed free throw bounce pass in the corner to junior Nick tries to go back the ball almost stolen but it goes out of bounds.
He threw a careless love pass back out.
Which prison league team is northeast?
You can't afford that type of person.
Haynesville on top 4 to 2.
Westmoreland gets the ball.
Junior Neal He ran into a double team.
They go in the corner left side.
Benson There's a nice lob in the middle against a double team and Humphrey shot partially blocked loose ball brought down northeast has got it Leticia James and she tried to go long underneath that is a history of northeast right now they have been making and creating a lot of turnovers.
They come up with a lot of steals but they have a tendency to turn the ball right back over to other teams, to their opponents.
17 seconds to play first quarter.
Henson in the corner left side back out front to Westmoreland keeps an eye on the clock Benson back again Westmoreland down to six.
When they get it to Neal she's going to drive baseline the runner is up it is no good buzzer sounds and at the end of the first quarter here from the Macon Coliseum Gainesville leading northeast 4 to 2.
Back with more right after this.
Funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Macon Coliseum.
Dave Cohen along with Teresa Edwards.
She and it's Gainesville eager for two eight, but Gainesville has nothing.
I'm sorry it's Northeast has something to prove today which they have spoken to themselves and it's been their goal all season long.
They've got to step up this defense and grab this momentum early, which they've been successful at very well.
Tasha Humphries The big story, the South is struggling, just one of six from the floor, although her Gainesville team leads it 4 to 2.
Exactly.
She'll fall into it.
Sometimes you can feel better once you get one second quarter action just underway and it's looking for James down on the baseline right side of attack.
The basket shot no good Harper inside got a rebound Turner drop off the glass is good and we're tied at three Very nice defense Jasmine Benson controls the basketball front court for the lady red elephants facing that 212 zone defense by northeast Shamier Neal top of the key.
Here's Westmoreland on the left wing down low.
Benson Baseline jumper in and out No good Neil got the lead Boston has a very nice shot that Vinson too but the rebound was even more always red jerseys were on the offensive glass they're going to feed it up in this huge block there by Tosha Humphries a second block shot of the afternoon Westmorland gets it ahead to Benson.
Benson runs into a double team.
Johnson is there I think he's doing there are the teammates he's getting it right now Marsha Humphrey hits that short jumper and it's an eight four ballgame now.
Gainesville, getting the help of her supporting cast will make her feel better any day.
645 to go second quarter.
James, going to try that back to our feet again.
They can't hold on to it.
Get it out on the perimeter.
Long jumper is up it is no good by Lisa Curry and here comes Benson Tasha Humphrey top of the key.
Long for you.
Let's get in here We said coming back in on a break.
She was one of six.
She must have hurt us.
She's hit two straight.
She's feeling better, you can believe.
Then Northeast tries to lob down low, Heat it up inside to Carrington.
And here comes Samir Neal.
She's got some rim drives in the lane.
The big blocked shot by James Jennifer Harper down with the loose ball.
She's needed to stop.
It's a big opportunity for them to score right here.
Hopefully they'll convert a bashing.
But Sanford tries a pass back up by two Carrington went right to her hand goes into bounds right here in front of us.
It'll be Gainesville basketball.
Those turnovers continue going.
Nurses are known for their half court play there.
Their first night in the passing lanes steals layups, fast break type of team and I think that's hurting them right now.
Angel is forcing them to set up and run a half girl and you see the turnover situation and so much about is said about northeast pressure defense but right now Gainesville turning it up a notch as they have forced eight turnovers.
Boston Humphrey now 7.67 of Gainesville, 11th in the ball game.
Gainesville on top now level the folks used to see on Curry Amazing thing about Humphrey is that he's just a freshman comes in averaging 25 points a game, ten rebounds and as we just saw, she's a pretty good three point shooter.
Really.
One of the answers in the making paper today, one of the columnists called her maybe the most complete player in the state.
I totally agree.
I totally agree.
Even though she is a freshman.
So the red elephants working on the offensive end, Westmoreland finds Benson on the left wing.
She immediately draws a double team back out front to Neal Henson, left side in the center, cross Port Westmoreland down low on the baseline, right side gets the ball back out front to Hurst.
Here's Lisa for good five seven senior Shamir Neal averaging three points terrible Gainesville shooting with a lot of confidence right now and it's a 13 four ballgame This is fire a double team in and almost forced the turnover Jennifer Harper down with the loose ball out front Sanford to James here try that alley oop backdoor and it almost works Got a whistle and a foul underneath it's going to go against Gainesville northeast is just trying to find the basket right now I think Letitia James is trying not to get frustrated.
She can't afford to give her team.
These are leadership at the moment in her state station and it will begin to fall for them.
So the 510 junior motif, Sanford at the free throw line, there's 20 as it is had done so far today, some trouble shooting from the free throw line just ahead.
And as you know, that will catch up with you at a game like this.
The second one is up.
It is no good Big offensive rebound Harper Turner on jumper in the lead it is no good offensive rebound stick back is no good nice offensive work on the glass there by Jake Carrington the junior Once again northeast is all over the offensive boards today.
They are getting second and third attempt each time down the floor in Gainesville by nine northeast, trying to cut into that lead a little bit from the free throw line.
And there you go.
Kerrigan knocks it down one.
He comes in averaging almost eight points a game.
The second one is good.
Carrington hits them both as a momentum for northeast right there.
They're extending their deal a little further, this time down the floor.
That's a good thing.
Inside of 5 minutes to go in the quarter, the lead is seven four.
Gainesville junior Neal fights to get it across midcourt line.
Here's that pressure Defense stepped up another notch by Northeast at the same time is a good thing really a lot of players and confidence taking their time moving the ball around, trying to find the best pass.
Henson ran into a double team, tried to get it out to Westmoreland and James there to deflect it out of bounds.
You can instantly feel the difference and change in the pace of the game.
Defense.
This will make Gainesville think and execute a little harder.
Now, fighting to get the ball and it's going to be a turnover to be picked up by Northeastern so they can take advantage of it.
The loose ball taken by Carman Evans, he's been running the point now for north east running jumper is up in the lane No good rebound brought down Westmoreland correction Mandy Smith on that rebound I like this defense in northeast provided right now I think they're really moving to the ball the president senior Neal sounds good.
Northeast is getting with the want and this is forcing Gainesville to take some outside shots but to be hitting in like that, it's kind of nice to win out of it.
He does.
Back to nine.
There you see it, 340 to go here and it is still on the other end to give it a hit.
Samir kneels.
He's got to chase it down in the corner.
You see back out front, Mandy Smith, free throw line jumper is up.
It is around no good Offensive rebound stick back is no good.
Lindsay Thompson work working the offensive glass not able to capitalize on that big rebound underneath.
Both teams are playing really good hard basketball now.
They're both crushing the both boys on both ends of the floor and it's becoming a little more intense out here.
Lindsay Thompson at five eight, a sophomore.
Catherine Hurst five nine, getting a lot of work inside and Humphrey on the bench right now they lob down low to Harper.
Harper draws the double team as you can imagine Giannis up no good traveling violation and getting the ball back to Gainesville You can listen and watch all of the state playoff games on the internet.
Simply go to w w w dot gpb dot org and follow the links.
All games will be available for an entire month.
Once again, that address on the web w WW dot gpb dot org.
There's a turnover by Gainesville location.
James comes up with the loose ball going to fire it up about four feet over motif Sanford's outstretched arms goes out of bounds and a another big turnover on north He's got to take it when you're trailing in the game like this you've got to take advantage of every possession.
Every possession.
Northeast has to feel the importance of that jazz.
Say that Gainesville is actually taking really good care of the ball.
Andy Smith draws a double team, gets it back to Benson in the corner, Jameer Neal going to penetrate offense.
His shot is up no good.
Got a run rebound through the lane ball deflected out front taken by man Smith Smith gets fired from behind and they're going to call that foul on Kaleka Curry They never think that Harper would step over gained in attacking Humphries on the bench.
As soon as I say that she comes back into the game any moment that they have Humphries on the bench, they've had to take advantage of that.
Lindsey Thompson goes over to the Gainesville bench down to 233 to play here in the second quarter substitution also by northeast back on the floor is the key here.
Howard comes here's a lot the senior Neal throws it in the middle and it's picked off the going to call jump ball well to Sanford wrapped up underneath with Katherine Hurst and a position arrow is in favor of games with those minutes and nearly so many of us concerned about taking and taking her in and I think it's been a help a lot.
Lot comes in the middle.
Tasha Humphries jumper is good so Tasha Humphrey warming up now and Gainesville has built its lead to 17 two 6 to 10 play almost coming off the bench like a microwave like you said James going to drive down the middle driving layup the full court just enough for the front part of the iron to keep from popping out of the cylinder and it's 17 eight pressure defense works on Mandy Smith and she's running the ball out of bounds and they force the turnover.
You can be assured that Tasha will not pass the ball up next time.
She will bring it down.
We'll be interesting to see.
Does she get to this point a piece?
Should James getting pressure from Benson gets the ball now right side Sanford getting it down baseline right side jumper is up no good ball deflected out of bounds contested and going to get the ball to Gainesville It's good and good decision to extend their defense down there for a little more pressure on the ball and they break the full court pressure.
Here's Tasha Humphrey free throw line jumper.
Is that true?
I like that.
They're looking for the ball to pass in the middle of the floor and we start to get the ball in there.
She's just got to make a decision which she wants to shoot.
It and read the floor.
Then at 25 to go, they force a turnover.
Tasha Humphrey with the steal going to take it coast to coast thought it was good big basketball that's big basketball down to a minute 13 to go They start to break it open It's 21 eight turnover again on the other end Katherine has picked up the ball Here comes touchdown Humphrey finds Benson in the corner, left side, back out front Mandy Smith So fired off It's up no good Rebound brought down and it's taken by north east the face of this game picking up She carried it down with that rebound and Tasha Humphrey now with 13 points on the afternoon leading Gainesville there's a jumper on the other end put up by Jennifer Harper 20 mills really taking control of this first half in Brooklyn.
We saw it game team game in there.
Working with Tasha as much as they can is with their health And now I just saw her senior into the Houston international system clock.
Humphrey does signal to time out it's the 32nd break so we will keep the broadcast here in Macon.
I really think northeast has to consider converting the ball with Palmer.
You check in as we listen into Coach Alvin Hall down the court, make sure we set up a goal to throw the ball way over here like that.
That's take your time.
But we're not doing anything.
We're not doing anything.
We're turning the ball over.
Got it.
Make sure you look inside right here.
Just over here from like that guy.
They're going, one, two, three.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
We can't let this girl shoot the ball.
So to me, it looks like a bunch of red lines in those boards.
But you guys know, what do you believe?
We know every every scrimmage.
31 seconds to go.
Second quarter Gainesville leading at 2110 and they've got the ball comes in play to the point guard Mandy Smith left side the Benson Jameer Neal on the right side back out front.
Smith You're trying to keep this ball in hand.
The last season, this first half, it's been such a great effort.
Benson For three shot, no good rebound comes again.
Neal That's his second or third offensive rebound.
Dr. Humphrey Whiteside three and is up no good rebound in northeast Carrington Northeast not able to get a shot off and we're at halftime here at the center flesh in Macon so your score at halftime 21 to 10 and boy did Tasha Humphrey heat up after coming off the bench that last time.
Right now let's send it to John Nelson courtside John Dave here with Nance and hell were you expecting the pitcher's goal that you're getting today?
Pretty much both things are good teams.
Both teams play mostly with their defense, whatever, with their offense.
So it doesn't surprise me.
We were another game like this in the semifinals is really what I expected.
And with Tasha is it more quality minutes today as opposed to quantity minutes.
Right.
Cheese.
Cheese.
She got dehydrated really bad.
She was throwing up all night.
So we're we're we're we're Jet Ivy's most, you know.
And so we're trying to see how many minutes you can go.
We don't know.
And basically, she calls it when she needs a blow.
Well, we are yak one.
We're watching because we got our team doctor on the bench with us and we're watching us.
All right, man, thanks a lot.
Appreciate your time here at half.
He is up 11, Tasha Humphrey with 13.
All right, thanks a lot, John.
Again, as John said, 2110, Gainesville on top.
Back with our halftime activities after this from Make It.
You're listening to watching coverage here on TV funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls basketball Championships is provided in part by the following.
This is JB TV, your PBS station serving Atlanta and all of Georgia GPD TV bringing you the best.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV.
Cheerleaders.
Welcome back to the Cineplex in Macon.
It's halftime.
Gainesville leads it over north east 21 to 10.
Let's go courtside now.
And the guy that's been on top of it all day long, especially with the principles.
John Nelson.
Well, you know, that's the way it always is.
I'm being the academician.
I am.
I'm here with the big boss man at Gainesville, Dave Shoemaker.
I'm going to ask, you know, you and I were talking you've got some SAT scores that were a lot higher than mine when I was in high school, talking a little bit about that for me, John and I kids are working very, very hard academically.
GAINESVILLE Oscar's a great academics school.
Our average S.A.T.
for our college prep kids is 1061.
In addition to that, we've got a lot of AP programs that are going extremely well.
And also we have a peace zone program where we're having Gainesville College come out and teach psychology and also sociology to our kids.
So we're very, very excited about the academic program that we have in Gainesville High School.
Now, let me ask you, we were also talking about how the high school kids are sharing with others.
Talk about the reading program a little.
Yes, we have a reading mentorship program at Gainesville High School where a lot of our high school kids go to Centennial Elementary School with Dr. Shirley Whitaker.
And we're working with just second and third graders on improving their reading skills.
And so we think a a high school mentor and a role model for second, third grade students is very beneficial to our school district.
You might appreciate your time.
Thanks for being with us.
Good luck.
Second hand.
Thank you.
One down, Jim.
We'll have the next one coming right up.
I know you will.
All right.
Hey, we've got some big games coming up tonight on TV at 7:00.
It all begins with the Quad eight championship.
And you'll see the the teams are on the screen shortly.
Central Gwinnett will be taking on north Atlanta.
That's the 7:00 game, the quarter game, and then the five eight matchup featuring the last of the Trojans and the Collins Hill Eagles.
So those are the two big games coming up later on tonight on TV.
You know, I must wonder that, you know, Jon must have must be doing a good job of staying at attention because he's doing a great job with his principles and staying on their good side, if you know what I mean.
Okay, Johnny, thanks to you here with Betsy Brown, the assistant principal at Northeast.
Now, let's talk about things on the academic side a little bit, Talk a lot about the student body and how they're far smarter than I ever, ever will be.
Well, Northeast has a proud tradition of excellence.
We are a school.
We have population of a little over a thousand students.
We are called a school on the move.
We've had a lot of students, including our students, who have won all kinds of scholarships throughout the world.
We've had students to go to.
West Point one is Jerry Lewis.
We've had Angela Riggins, who made noteworthy history because she was one of the students who got more scholarships than anyone.
She even wrote a book on how to acquire scholarships.
She's a product of the Northeast.
Northeast is on the east side of town.
It's about two miles from the Coliseum.
We have like I said, we have a proud tradition of excellence right now.
We are a health science magnet program and our program is in its fourth year.
We have something about 100 students in that program, and we've done quite a few internships with the local hospitals and our first graduation class from this program actually came out with nurse nurses certificates and things like that for nurse aid certificates and things like that.
Basically from the program, as you see here today, we're all excited.
We have a great following.
And people love Northeast because of its traditions.
I appreciate your time and I want to try and find out how to get a copy of that book before everything's over with us.
In terms of getting a book, you can get a copy in.
Most of your book stores are also you can go down to the Macon Mall.
They have a new bookstore there called Ebony, and in this bookstore they have some copies of those things.
I appreciate your time is Brown.
Back to you.
Jim.
All right, Johnny, way to go.
We had some big ball games earlier today on TV.
It all began at 12 noon with the single-A championship, Jefferson and Wesley and Jennie Hall came out firing from three point land for West Linn.
Jefferson bounced back, though they had a star in her name leads the both watch this move underneath great player lead the bows Dana Purdy got into the act nice strong move down low for Leslie and Melinda Flournoy so she well what can you say?
She responded Come downtown 13 points on the game.
Four points.
Nicky Luckhurst with a little stutter step and then the lay up.
Nice move there.
Hey, Nick, He can do it from all over the court.
Three point shot.
You betcha.
Lisa Bose, though, definitely the star for Jefferson.
Here comes the three pointer, and then she drives the length of the floor Here.
She had a game high, 21 points.
Jefferson for their first state basketball championship, beating Wesleyan 55 to 52.
Congratulations to Kevin Jacobs and his entire staff at Jefferson.
And listen, congratulations to Coach Azar and Wesley, and they played a great game.
All right.
Now, the championship Union County and Greater Atlanta Christian, six foot four inch Katy's best state.
Watch her follow up here.
Nice and easy.
Off the glass.
Lauren Eaton got into it Shooting spree Greater Atlanta Christian's more he hits the three pointer Union counties Dana points comes back zone answers with a three over 14 points on the Hillary Hightower Yeah she does it long distance too.
And check out Cheryl Baker.
She comes up with the steal and then the easy one.
Baker was incredible.
She was everywhere and she gets the loose ball and then finds Katie, 50.
Oh yeah, he had eight points on the day, but the day belongs to Baker.
Check out this crossover dribble and then the layup a game high 25 points greater Atlanta Christian wins the championship and double leg 6341 over at Union County and those are your highlights from earlier today.
Now we'll go back down stairs.
Dave Cohen into his red room.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Jim.
And we have a 2110 score here at halftime.
The lady red elephants of Janesville leading northeast.
Let's take a look at some of the highlights from first half of the ballgame here in Macon.
And we're going to see a steal and a layup.
This is number 31.
Motueka Sanford, nice, strong move to the basket.
Kind of made it look easy.
Gainesville though, leading this ballgame that is Jasmine Vincent number 12 Nice power move to the basket 53 supporting cast.
Big offensive rebound on that missed shot inside by Jennifer Harper because that's a friendly shift Get that jumper to fall that's Tasha Humphrey Long three pointer making it look really easy to me or Neal out of the corner on the baseline.
Got to love that message data and she gets it to go.
Let's take a look at some the stats from that first half in a 2110 ballgame, 34% shooting from the floor for Gainesville, just 17 for northeast.
The free throws not really a lot to talk about.
They're just one of eight on the three point shot for Gainesville Humphrey with that long three pointer and it's a rebounding advantage for Gainesville.
Again, 2110 our score at halftime back with more coverage right after this.
Here on TV funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching member supported TV, your PBS station bringing you the best.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV.
And welcome back to the center plex in Macon, Dave Cohen, along with Teresa Edwards, former Georgia lady, bulldog, five time Olympian and a 2110 ballgame with Gainesville on top.
And Tasha Humphrey definitely heating up in that second quarter to tell her the tape is northeast, most of them out of prison.
That aggressive style of defensive play to create their offense, their defense is their offense and they have not displayed that today.
Well, Northeasterners really struggle there.
Just four of 24 from the floor and Gainesville out rebounding in 1513.
They've also created turnovers turn the ball over 13 times they've got to clean that up and convert these baskets though it'll be northeast basketball to start the second half third quarter and Letitia James with the ball front court.
It's like a zone defense early here in the second half by Gainesville.
That's a change up for Gainesville.
Let's see what this does to northeast.
There's Leticia James baseline running jumper is no good fight Jennifer Harper battling for the rebound they lose it on Mount Harper is six one senior She's the lone senior on this team.
She's headed for the College of Charleston.
That's a good plus for her.
I really want her to have a good game here and to go out and style herself from high school.
She's going to remember this for a long time.
Nice feed in the middle.
Jake Carrington on the inbounds pass gets her first basket.
It's 2112.
Clemson is to make it easy for them to get an inside bucket may pull games without a team There's a long three top of the key It is up It is good.
Guess who Tasha Humphrey said again She makes it look too easy.
Gainesville comes up with a turnover on the other end.
Actually a steal there to pick it off for the lady Red Allison.
Oh, that's another the you jumper.
She felt bad.
I felt it, too.
Tyson They run that lead to 2112 on the other end they come up with a turnover You hit me in the face to go to a ten.
Nice pick six up it is up there by Smith.
It's no good.
They fight for the rebound It goes out of bounds Tulsa Humphrey really rescues these girls and dribble the ball the length of the court and make a pass like that at six three Julie a63 high school kid is in the paint.
She's all over the floor.
There's a turnover on Gainesville, Letitia James going to go coast to coast her running lay up to no good, but she got foul.
That's their offense so she can but these free throws and for a team that has to be their focus and I'm sure that's what they talked about in her time.
They have to make their defense their offensive, convert those baskets.
It's a different game.
Lisa James hits that first free throw by a sophomore comes in averaging 14 points a game.
She has been their most consistent player all season.
He knocks them both down the 649 to play third quarter 2714 north east again comes with some of that full court pressure they're making gains you to there they're simply passing over the press.
Jasmine Benson long three no good rebound.
North east exceeded them once they got into have to bail out forcing Gainesville to take that outside so I think you want to do that they can take it back down to the TCU James almost travel ends up throwing it away.
Westmorland gets it inside Vinson, James gets back and gets the block he thinks she got away with the foul there to substitution now by northeast Carmen Evans the five to junior will come onto the floor.
James will get a breather.
James is generally their defensive heckler.
She's all over the court, usually leading the way for this defensive team.
Westmorland the inbounds pass out front.
BENSON Now to Smith.
There's a long jumper for three pointer.
That was nice.
That was solid.
She knew she was going to take it.
Now.
3214 Gainesville comes with some full court pressure.
Generally teams that have that a great present does not like to be.
Chris and I think I commend Coach Hill for this move.
That's a great move.
They have been able to extend their presses on the first second to Jasmine Benson whistle for that foul That's her second second team foul here in the third quarter.
Work the ball inside Harper Harper gets wrapped up break straight pulls up the jumper no good offensive rebound stick back attempt is no good they're too fast the offensive glass number 12 Nick Howard I think is going to try to clean up that offensive board.
No offensive rebounding on the part northeast.
This game is really a run away for them, but they're getting second and third looks.
Tasha Humphrey picked up that foul that their first two free throws is good for Howard.
The second one right off the back of the Iron Westmoreland to bring it off the floor pass ahead intended for Vinson a little bit too high goes off the fingertips and out of bounds.
Got a feeling she saw Rush.
She can she had a lot of court work with that time.
She doesn't have to feel rushed to make her own forecast.
Is 535 to go third quarter not great steal on the other end by Benson and Mandy Smith will bring it front court Westmoreland on the right wings fourth quarter Humphrey thought about that three Andy Smith in the corner and out of Benson Long jumper no good but it came right down in the hands of Humphrey and she got fouled, even though that short shot was sure.
That was great movement, that was great team ball movement, looking for the best shot that they could get.
They really did move it nicely out on the perimeter from the right side of the floor in the quarter.
The left wing defensive before shot there, making that zone work really hard and moving that ball really fast.
Inbounds pass again.
They swing it, left wing Andy Smith finds Benson now.
Westmoreland fire.
Oh, that's good.
John Lennon.
She set and she's ready.
She knows it's coming.
233 to 15 Gainesville win inside of 5 minutes to go in the third quarter Farnham Harman Evans running the point right now for Northeastern She throws it away It's a two on one Westbrook going to keep it herself Mr. Layup Smith The rebound blocks up from behind by Jennifer Harper jumper on the other end a strong shot to the basket Use the glass great great transition great great decision for her to take it up herself 3317 four and a half to play Daniel has remained small with his best ball.
Shot by Humphrey is no good to start.
He takes big shots.
Carman Evans front court for the redirect.
Jenifer Harper backs away and gets stripped from.
He gets stripped in front there by the third best offensive offensive sea events and gets hit with that foul.
There's that last that was a worrying decision for her to take that on in.
The defense did not give her a choice but then it was a great block and a transition back down the other way.
And Harvard definitely is going to deliver this very nice.
You see James back on the floor.
Dillon In the middle of Harper.
Yeah.
The turnaround jumper is good.
I like what I'm seeing.
This is stepping up.
She's a leader.
She's a senior.
This is her last opportunity.
She gives you something to make use of a teammate.
Your father sees him two in a row.
They cut that lead to 3319 switch upper left side.
The offensive rebound is good.
Put back in by Catherine Hurst, the sophomore big rebound Northeast would have come up with that.
The momentum would have stayed their way.
Got a whistle and a foul inside on the other end.
I think northeast says they're they're really playing really good pressure they're doing their forcing Gabriel to do what they want him to do, make long passes down the floor, makes slow classes that they can take off in the first place.
And it's forcing them to come up with the ball and fall in Gainesville at the same time to shoot outside.
Big shot, 37/32 timeout called by Gainesville that foul called a number 11 Jameer Neal right now let's send it back to Jim Giacchino Jim All right, thanks Dave.
Yesterday's single-A boys championship, Buford and Taylor County.
Akeem Hardeman had a great game.
He also had this easy layup, but the game belongs to Edwin McCreary from Taylor County, 17 points, including that gem.
The Vikings win the single-A championship over the Buford Wolves.
5839.
That portside is David for his team.
All right, we're down to 322 to go here in quarter number three.
It's a 3519 ballgame.
They've in the regular season, you've had a Northeast team that's only allowed their opponents to score 30 points.
We're here in the third quarter and Gainesville already has 35.
Given that it is a state championship game, it would be different.
But that tells you that they're not playing the exact same defense that they're used to know.
I know 31 seasons for head coach Alvin Copeland, 634 career wins has a lot of confidence in his team and he knows that their defense is zero.
Since he's made this statement time and time again.
James, another beautiful inbounds pass.
Nice to the basket, Second Amendment.
Garcia has a good point.
Mark Sanford finishing it off.
He back on the offensive end of the floor.
Westmoreland's got out in the corner to Mandy Smith.
He draws a double team, calls a quick time out.
That was a smart time.
Now, they had a really tough situation right now.
Let's send it back to Jim's Pinocchio Jim.
All right.
Thanks to Double Boys championship from yesterday, Calhoun and East Tough.
I'll tell you what, Mark Causey is something else.
Watch him.
Watch it from three point country.
Unbelievable.
And watch his brother, his younger brother, Matt Causey, on the lay up.
Hey, he's tall versus old Calhoun, 78, 67.
They win the state championship last courtside.
David Gleason.
Thanks, Jim.
Just saw the highlights of that game.
You and I were here to watch that one.
That was an entertaining game to watch.
Yes, it was.
I couldn't take my favorite.
So we're down to 3 minutes and 5 seconds to play here in the third quarter.
And so far it has been Tasha Humphrey.
She really has turned it on in the second quarter and here in the third, I think she's a bit of everything.
She's coming off the bench, doing everything for a team.
She shot a lot of outside shots.
The second hand, I like to see her go inside the paint a little more to give her an opportunity to rebound for a team.
But they're playing really well together.
A supporting cast is also there.
Gainesville to put it in place, Junior Neill and finds Mandy Smith.
After Westmoreland's here, Smith left side for the loss of three and his effort is good.
These three concepts are going really good.
38 to 21 Now inside of 3 minutes to go third quarter.
How do you notice?
They don't even hesitate.
They just letting it go.
They so good, you know, it's going to go steal on the other end and the pass stolen by the freshman Lauren Niles Neal gets out of the double team.
Harper comes over, tries to steal it back from Niles, and there's a foul.
She got a little too aggressive.
She had the steal.
She got a little too aggressive with 31.
So Harper picks up the foul.
That's her second personal.
They don't have a choice.
They get to extend their deal.
It got to staying aggressive and be intense about in terms of their they they've got to come up with the way to get themselves back into this game.
Westmoreland's front foot is the ball not offensive carry for his game your team still working the ball for the best efforts for the best opportunities.
Jimmy O'Neal wins the race for that one and throws it away stolen by Harper, but he's got nobody to pass it.
This is a little bit ahead of herself.
And Gainesville catches a huge break.
They get the ball back.
She's a young lady, is trying everything she can.
She's doing everything in her power that's definitely shot in here.
And Westmoreland gets fouled over there in front of the Gainesville bench.
So a break in the action.
Want to remind you that you can listen and watch all of the state playoff games on the Internet.
All you've got to do is go to WW w dot GPB dot org and follow the links again.
All games will be available for the entire month.
Again that address W WW dot gpb dot org and it's minute 45 to go quarter number three can we get Tasha Humphries back into the game and they almost throw it away chase down by Lauren Niles finds Westmoreland's back in the corner Benson going to let it fly It is a good defense court pass.
They're fighting each other very easy at the Gainesville now five for six on the three point shot here in the third quarter and a turnover on Northeast on the other end.
That was a very good look.
That's a let's lay at this.
You catch that one.
That was a good look.
A little bit of pressure is Gainesville brings the ball up three they find Humphrey that's where she shoots and takes it.
That time she drives but bounces off the back of the iron.
No good, Humphrey got a handle on the rebound and got fouled.
I thought she was going to pull up and shoot a three.
I didn't know what she was going to do.
I thought she would do the same thing.
And then it looks like she wanted to just drop it off in there.
Maybe a little too easy for her.
She had the room.
That foul call against number 31 Motueka Sanford, the junior advances back into the game like I'm making where she goes over.
She had a good breather and comes in like she never left the floor.
She's had some huge games this year, 45 against Hart County, a 31.20 rebound performance against Johnson in Hall County this afternoon, 19 and six.
Due to setting ourselves up for a lot of good things down the road, I tell you, to hit the first one misses the second.
Here comes Northeast James or slow it up and allow everybody else to come up and get set get the ball to Harper ball deflected stolen Here's Westmoreland get out of it Gets it up the hill Oh driving without a license that's a freshman There he is in front He's got 21 and northeastern.
The wheels are coming off the northeast right now.
They turn it over again with 36 seconds to go in the quarter and they trail this game 44 to 21.
You know, I tried that he also that it was college.
That's why I learned that Sarah Westmoreland and Neil get it across the line.
Natasha Humphrey Right down the lane driving.
Lammers No good comes off the rim.
Harper got the rebound and doing a good job getting the ball to the moon, sort of tossing.
She has, like I said, all kind of decisions to make when she gets it.
CARRINGTON In the middle, off the glass is good.
Great guys they need to build on this, need to build on this.
Duncan And they will not get a shot off the fourth quarter.
Number three comes to a close three of the blocks, one to go, and it's a 4423 ballgame.
Gabriel leading northeast back with the fourth quarter right after this.
On TV funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls basketball Championships is provided in part by the following.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Center Flex here in Macon.
Dave Thorne along with Teresa Edwards, 4423 your score at halftime and Teresa, Missouri in that third quarter point shooting by Gainesville five for six from the floor very easy shots they took their time they moved the ball and found the open woman.
And every time, almost every time they know the shot it's a very good shooting team today.
So 8 minutes to go as the fourth quarter is underway.
Westmoreland's front court for the lady red elephants, Lauren Niles, top ten points out of this fourth quarter.
These doesn't give up there's got to play hard wrong three shot no good Westmoreland comes down with the rebound Here's Benson on the right wing tries to come off the screen comes over to me is a lob in the middle goes off the fingertips of double zero Catherine Hurst and they turn it over to northeast I saw that Gainesville hasn't had it in their mind to relax and at the moment because they really can't afford to do that at the moment.
The toss you're on the bench, I would never relax, but she's got 22 points so far, so incredible.
And here comes Leticia.
James Sanford of the right wing wants the ball back out front to Howard.
They lob in the middle.
Harper turned around her turnaround shot in the lane is no good all red jerseys there for the rebound brought down by Hurst She made a big girl move she just couldn't finish though there's Niles free throw line jumpers for a nice finish 46 to 23 Gainesville throw a double team and James gets it in the corner.
Sanford's baseline shot off the side of the glass.
No good rebound.
Harper And there's a whistle and a foul underneath north These really need to play as if they had a sense of urgency about the final three or the big story in this game.
So much is the turnover situation northeast with 21 Gainesville with just eight.
You just can't make as many times as they're making and expect to win a game.
You just can't it will not happen, especially when it is shooting.
And I'm sure that we get the second half you shooting that type of shooting.
Lou said this because you're hitting in the way that they're giving me the confidence to see that there's no way.
And again, Harper hits one of the two and then we're going to fall away from the ball.
Sanford Dame down with the rebound.
Actually not a foul.
It's going to be Northeast basketball.
They'll put it in play.
Beautiful inbounds pass comes in the shot put up there by Howard It's no good rebound stick back by Sanford no good And here comes Janesville three on one if they can make the transition work.
The jumper the lane by Hurst is no good.
James got the rebound and the foul committed here by double zero Catherine Hurst It was a very nice break very nice break Just didn't finish good decisions in Gainesville in the game just really with a lot of confidence today they're not lacking in that department.
I think a lot of them made it tough, Deservingly so.
She's had a great season.
She's a great player.
She's carried in all season long.
This is a good team.
Every young lady on the floor today has exemplified as great players, great shooters, leadership.
Tosha Humphrey comes back on the floor, Lauren Niles heads to the rim elephant bench that foul, the 17 foul on Gainesville.
So northeast will be shooting that first three so there by James he's good good Not a lot of barking those guys missed the second one but got her own rebound goes up inside the Carrington got a whistle and lit a cylinder into her stomach their offensive foul on Shea Carrington Wow.
On third down right there.
I can't touch you sick anymore, can you?
Not at all.
Not the way she shot the ball in the third quarter, down to 615 to play in the ballgame.
And Gainesville works on the offensive end and Benson on the left wing speeds it inside a little bit of inside action.
She is getting double teams.
One why she saw that time in the third quarter but that's good to see because she's making big girls on that block and I'm amazed at what she can do with that money.
They feed her the ball nicely down low, nice power, move to the basket.
She really has learned how to use her body at an early is only going to get better, goes against his own offense.
The second one is up in as good hits one of the two and makes it a 47 to 25 advantage for Gainesville on pass on the other end.
Once again, they turn it over I believe their 22nd turnover of the game.
You know touches another play basketball and she was sugar healed That means she had a sweet game.
Westmoreland's controlled the ball for the red elephants Down low in the corner is Neal in the corner Benson left side for three shot is no good.
Falls into the hands of the keeper.
Howard James They get it in And Timothy Sanford, the lob down in the middle to Howard make that Harper turnaround shot is up It is no good offensive rebounds stick back it is no good Darrington with that big offensive rebound they couldn't polish it off And here comes Joshua Humphrey.
Nice feed down on Samir Neal missing in the last 10 minutes.
He gets the early loose ball.
She got away with a little double there, but that's a good thing they didn't see it.
You get away with it.
Yeah, I'm impressed with the way Taj's just playing on the block gets the inbounds pass shoots for three.
It is no good, Harper.
The rebound fights through a double team and a little frustration there.
Kind of funny that James dropping the ball off the floor.
It's not like they've got a whole lot of time.
Exactly.
That's my point about the sense of urgency playing at this moment.
Our first shot no good rebound.
Sanford in the corner gets it back to James and the winning tries to go to the middle got a whistle and that's going against double zero again Katherine Hearst that was good defense.
He thought so Castro had been looking at her son, didn't realize she.
So Barrington will step to the line, but James will check out coming back in for northeast number 14 time.
Evans Larry, for missing the first free throw, Spencer comes up with the rebound and she's just so consistent throughout this game today Westmoreland shoots a three.
It is no good.
Sanford and Neil fight for the rebound goes out of bounds Last touch by Sanford so it'll be red open possession comes into Benson fence he's got some rope drive pass gets it off to Hurst and they've got a whistle and a foul.
Mason did a good job of throwing to two defenders and found an open player there.
Actually not a foul, a traveling violation.
420 to go Harmon Evans controls the ball out front for northeast It's just pressure on the ball work it into Harper Harper against a double team turnaround jumper no good but she draws the contact she's really trying to give it her all here At the end it appears that they picked up the foul picked up by Hurst.
That's her third.
But tell you what, they really haven't been known all season long for the half court game.
I'm just really surprised as you are that they're walking the ball at the she will shoot one more.
Andy Smith comes back on the floor and Amir kneels to check out for these games.
Little red elephants and Harper hits the second.
So he she hits one of the two and a 4726 advantage for Gainesville.
She almost shoots in jugs down the court as if it doesn't matter.
I would hate to see her give up too soon.
I just couldn't give up the thousand.
Mandy Smith Bounce pass.
Hurst Westmoreland.
Then try to go baseline and the lane is cut off.
So bring it back up front.
Try to go in the corner to Benson Ball goes out of bounds.
Gainesville says it was deflected.
The official says no it will be northeast great All right basketball for Carmen Evans front court forcing us to score the questions the ball movement and that's another turnover Nobody touched it.
Ball goes out of bounds.
Carmen Evans knew what she wanted to do, but yeah, that was good penetration.
I meant to say that was really good penetration on her part.
Trying to fool the defense so she could get someone the ball in the basket.
Henson comes cross the line, runs right into Harper.
23 turnovers so far this afternoon for Northeastern that pretty much tells the story of this game along with Tasha Humphrey and all those three point shots.
Yes, it does.
I think the Northeast could have cleaned up some of those turnovers.
It could have been a different story even So that Thompson had a great game, definitely a different story here.
BENSON Front court finds Mandy Smith down to 310 to go in the end very patient which is very at this point in the game not taking good shots and triple threat position every time one of them get heavy pressure there on the board nails in the corner to Westmoreland and they will turn it over so much, a little too much time for them to start stolen.
They need to keep playing the good basketball that they've been playing all game long, that don't squeeze your team much.
Evans finds more Teague Sanford in the corner inside Harper's shot partially blocked the throw rebounds stick back he's good she's still digging in Well they can really take advantage with Humphrey on the bench right now They can start to take advantage of Harper in the middle.
They did so that time and a timeout going to be called by Gainesville timeout with 224 to go right now let's send it to Jim Janaki Pinocchio Jim Hi thanks Dave Yesterday's triple-A Boys championship Westover and Mitchell Baker check out Darryl Wims from three point country You betcha on the fast break Quick Hits with some authority and then Marcus Campbell does the same.
Westover wins the championship over Mitchell Baker, 7844.
Let's go back downstairs today and.
All right, thanks, Jim and Teresa.
That's the game you and I did yesterday here on TV.
It was an exciting ball.
That was exciting basketball game.
You and I saw some big time players, big time players, big time dunks.
Campbell headed to Mississippi State ten, headed to Louisville and two sport champion.
There you go.
One, three.
As we listen in a little to Northeast head basketball coach Alvin Copeland, they've only got 224 with which to work.
They 47 to 28.
I'm sure those still be shaking his head and wondering if the 30 years of experience on his part, I don't know where he can find the remedy to fix this team up really quick.
And I'm sure he tried to do that at halftime.
Gainesville has the basketball.
Here's Westmoreland out of Shamir and Neal goes down, runs into a double team and dumps it back.
And there's Katherine Harris to pick up the loose ball.
She fell down.
I'm going to call traveling violations.
You may have heard her knee a little bit, tries to walk it off.
That's former basketball kiss.
The real test for me.
She's okay.
I was northeast shot from the floor today, just 25% from the field.
That is not going to win too many games.
Carmen Evans tries to make something happen and lob down low inside Harper Turner on Jumper.
No good but gets fouled it appears according to her every time down the floor.
Now you would think that in starting the game Nelson at 93 per game without that pressure defense that they started out in the zone and because they started out in the zone maybe perhaps that slowed him down and created that slow momentum that they really weren't used to.
I don't know.
I can't fix it for them, but I'm trying.
Believe me, it is probably can't trust Alvin Copeland's mind to walk across the court, give you a uniform out there.
Enough about his own knees.
But they to get healthy Today, Harper hits one of the two.
Rebound comes down to the red elephants.
Smith tries the long pass underneath intended for Lauren Niles Ball goes out of bounds and they turn it over.
Eagle must be playing smart basketball.

As if that's been a long 24 hours and we get to that.
You know, costs have been really sick and we had to go to the emergency room.
Now, as you know, about 3 hours well, 2:00 this morning, morning it got hit hard, knocked him down, came down, gave his riot gear to ideas.
And, you know, it's just been well set down.
But our kids never believe they had to fight it after winning and it's just real satisfying and excited because our our our group is so young and and for them to hold together in this kind of pressure, which is great.
You're getting the bounce Utah she was going to get hers but she got bounced especially from the outside went out you got bounce from the outside as well That's three point shooting sometime we talk about work on free speech about all time is that we have to have three point and we have to have people that can score outside because people otherwise people can double, triple and, you know, do all of that kind of stuff inside.
And, you know, if they decide to do that and then we go outside and, you know, we like it both ways.
And, you know, congratulations.
Enjoy the ride back up.
