It is the 28 GHC basketball championships this time around.
Game five of six.
The end date to Game ten of 11.
Overall Girls 888.
The third ranked lady Trojans of Carrollton coming in at 29 and two against the undefeated and top ranked Lady Cherokees of Kendrick.
Coming into the game with a record of 29 and Welcome to the Macon Coliseum Macon center plex.
And for those of you watching our streaming on GPB, dawg, thanks for hanging out with us as well.
We're glad that you got the invite, Kendrick.
The only undefeated team that you will see this entire weekend, especially here with the Macon Madness.
They've always come close.
Never gotten a state title.
Same for Carrollton.
Always come close.
Never gotten a state title.
That's obviously going to change tonight for one of these two teams on their mantle.
The guys calling the game downstairs, Dave Gardner, Dick Williams.
Guys, I'll be with you in a second.
All right.
Sounds good, John.
And indeed, one of these teams will indeed win a state championship here tonight alongside my broadcast partner, Dick Williams.
Looking forward to a great game between two teams that like to get up and down the floor and we expect them to get after each other.
You've got that undefeated team, the Kendrick Cherokees.
They play like the old Nolan Richardson teams in Arkansas.
They just run and run and get after it.
And that may be why they have 18 girls on their roster day.
Let's talk a little bit about Carrollton.
The Lady Trojans are led by Felicia Bell, who's been a player that's gotten it done all year long for this lady Trojan team.
Felicia Bell averaged just 13.3 points per game.
Their scoring is pretty evenly distributed among among three starters, and Carrollton has got their work cut out for them.
Going against the undefeated Kendrick team.
And they're a good look at the starting five bell as we talk about the senior charisma.
Boykins also been a player this year to this elite, Tiera Prothro and Brittney Wylie, the senior.
The starting five today for the Carrollton Lady Trojans, a quarterfinal team last year in the championship game at this season.
All right.
Let's talk a little bit about Kendrick, because this is a team that's also been here before.
They've got a lot of semifinal and final history.
They're trying to get over the hump as well.
And they've got a good player in Ginny McKinney that's led the way this postseason.
Kenny averages 18.6 points per game, and they're a much more high scoring team than Carrollton.
But Kendrick runs and guns and shoots the three and we'll talk about that a little bit later.
There you see McKinney's numbers right there, 18.6 points.
A game has certainly been solid throughout the year and throughout the postseason.
They will need another big game from here tonight.
They're going to look at the starting five Kim Stamps, two senior Ashley Barley, Rukia Myrick has stood out.
Ginny McKinney of course we just talked about, and Kindra Barnes, the a senior right there.
A lot of seniors in the lineup for Coach Sterling here Candace Kendrick Lady Cherokee team should be a lot of fun and as we all know, you know, Kendrick is a team that likes to press.
They will press you out of the building from start to finish.
So that is certainly the game plan here tonight.
And Coach Hicks is 183 games and only lost 28 in his career, starting five seniors undefeated going in.
This is his to win.
Well, I think in five years, 142 wins for this Kendrick team.
I think that speaks volumes that says enough.
It does enough.
A lot of fun here.
Indeed.
And of course, the full court press.
How is Carrollton going to counter that?
I think that is certainly the key here tonight.
They've got some quick guards and they also shoot the three point shot very well, four players, over 40% from beyond the arc.
And that is certainly going to be big here tonight.
Let's go ahead and go courtside to Eddie Ashley, our announcer for tonight's introductions.
Tonight's game will have the Carrollton Lady Trojans playing the Kendrick Lady Cherokee.
May I have your attention for the starting lineup?
First for Carrollton and Ga.
Number 12, a five foot five senior Felicia Bell at guard number 22, a five foot seven junior.
Charisma Boykin at forward number for a five foot nine.
Georgia knees least elite Add forward number 24 and five foot ten.
Sophomore Tiera Pro throw at forward number 25, a five foot 11 senior Brittney Wallace and Carrollton head coach Sean Thomas.
Thomaston And now for your Kendrick Lady Cherokee at GA.
Number four, a five foot 11 senior, Tillman stands at guard number 12, a five foot seven senior Ashley Barley at guard number 21, a five foot seven senior move.
Kyler Murray At forward number five, a five foot 11 senior, Ginny McKinney at forward number 32, a six foot senior, Kindra Barnes and Kendrick's head coach, Sterling Hicks is.
It's time to rock and roll, Carrollton and Kendrick in the three eight girls championship.
The tip off when we return in a moment.
Let's get started.
Let's get started here.
Good career.

Let's go courtside to the other member of our team today, Mr. John Nelson.
John.
Thank you, Dave.
Remember the game we played when we were kids?
Red light, green light.
That pretty much sums up the two offenses today.
Kendrick is going to be the green light running up and down the floor, sending 12 people out that may get into the scoring book.
Question for Carrollton Will they be the red light or will they want to run the red light and match Kendrick's face?
That'll be the question early on.
Back to you guys.
That's a great question, John.
Looking forward to talking to you throughout the evening right here and looking forward to a great game.
Dave Gardner, Dick Williams with you courtside as we get set to rock and roll.
Game ten of 11 live on GPB this week.
It is championship weekend continues and there's a turnover right off the bat.
Look at that.
Right off the bat.
Everything we've heard about this Kendrick team from Columbus, Whitey Cherokees, as John mentioned up top, the only undefeated team we'll see this weekend in the first shot off the mark by McKinney, quickly taken down by Carlton Ball loose, no whistle and traveling going to be called right here on Kindra Barnes, the six foot senior giant who saw the basket right in front of her.
She was ready to go to it.
They're going to look at Sean Thomaston, the Carrollton head coach, an impressive record right there in ten seasons at the helm for the Lady Trojans.
And here is that press that we were talking about coming right out of the box right here.
Certainly no surprise.
Indeed, you can expect the girls in the white shirts to do that.
All night long.
But a great job by Carrollton to break that press.
So that's Tiara Prothro.
That is exactly how you break that press.
They had the player running out, fought beautifully.
Little shot right there off the mark by Lacy Hollis getting the start here that one in the back court on a violation.
Indeed it will go back to Carrollton the lady Trojans.
Just a couple of defeats on the year.
You see Coach Sterling Nicks, the head coach for Hendrick and what a record he's compiled, 183 wins in his eight season as head coach.
That's a just a phenomenal record.
If you say that for ten years, you know, that's true.
Averaging 18 wins and two losses.
Put it in perspective.
That's fabulous.
I also like the fact that he dresses 18 again, what a great opportunity.
If you're going to Kendrick High School, you know you're going to get to play.
Well, I think if you know in order to run the kind of defense they do the entire game, you need to dress about 18.
You need to go about three deep, three or four plus to absolutely complete 12.
It's wonderful that we're taking away right there.
But be a off and running on the other hand, all alone underneath, Sarge, back the other way.
They have no conscience that they're not waiting for any shot clock, real or imaginary.
They are going right to the basket and putting it up no matter the result.
Great job right there by Giannis Alley to keep those feet set.
I think it was the right call.
Absolutely Good crowd on hand here for both sides.
Of course the Lady Trojan faithful making the trip from Carrollton of course the region champs out of six trip away and of course the Lady Cherokee faithful from Kendrick making the trip up from Columbus the region champs out of to triple-A.
Not a long trip for either one That's why we've got a lot of fans here and we'll see how Carrollton goes on the attack against this crest knocked away from behind right there.
But it worked out.
And a drive all the way.
The bucket right there by Brittany while who's fired up that's twice they've broken the pass twice they've executed perfectly and got layups out of it for a start by the lady Trojans that shot off the mark right there from Maric.
The put back won't go.
That was Kim Stamps and it will go back to Carrollton.
You know, take one of the knocks I guess on this Kendrick team is they haven't always started.
Well they've been slow in some of their games, especially here in the playoffs.
They've been able to turn it on later and on in the second half.
And right now, Carrollton again with the for an open start.
I understand that seeing how quickly they shoot you have to to their attack the basket beautiful pressure there resulting in a steal take away and a time out heads up play by Kim Stamps the 511 senior that senior leadership right there and experience showing she called the timeout to save the possession absolutely it'll be a throw.
We've seen a lot of great basketball over the weekend Dick and certainly looking forward to a great game right here.
Two teams that only have two losses between them on the entire season.
I think for that reason, this is the game I most look forward to.
I've heard so much about Kendrick from a lot of folks around the state about this stifling defense and how they just keep coming in, coming in waves, and that's fun.
But here are the very, very early going.
Carrollton seems up to the task of handling that full court pressure, though.
They just did have a turnover.
So it will be Kendrick's ball.
The Lady Cherokees lost in the semifinals last year against East Hall, who of course went on to win the state championship, lost that game of the final minute year before they lost to Avondale in the final minute in the state playoffs as well.
So this is a team that plays to the end takeaway right there.
Wylie On the other end and a whistle on the floor blocking foul going to be called fouls on the camera and I believe that's her second.
Well, I'll tell you this, Carolina team's attacking.
They show no signs of backing down with the pressure.
Jon Nelson suggested they might want to play a different style of ball.
It doesn't look like a Jimmy.
Looks like they want to run as well.
I think they ran the red light to answer John's question.
They're off the top so far.
They have.
Yeah, but no takers is going to be issue and looks like we do have a time out on the floor right here with 617 left in this first period.
Well go ahead step aside with to be right back Carrollton out to a good start they leave Kendrick for nothing.
We're back with more in a moment.
This broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association.

Thank you for tuning in to GPB right back here inside the Macon Center place Carrollton up for nothing on Kendrick early in this one right here.
And Jake a great start for Carrollton.
Hey, a pair of buckets, one for Prothro, one from Wiley and both able to beat the press in those situations.
Absolutely.
Now, this is really their first chance to set up offense.
Kendrick isn't a man to man, but he just stamps guarding Boykin right there in that situation.
Ball loose out of bounds.
It will stay with Carrollton one of those strange place where the offensive player forced the ball in looking for a foul.
But it wasn't really player control, nor was it a block shot.
Forced reaction rebounding the long inbound right here steal by Carroll release it bell three point shot from the corner is short off the fingertips of Wiley kept alive though and Carrollton will reset it back up here now a whistle on the floor and a foul going to be called it looks like on Ashley Barley Syracuse picking up two fouls there this early on.
Carlton's number 22.
They're at the top of the key charisma.
BOYKIN is a guard I've heard a lot about, and she too has the blazing speed and a willingness to push it up and down the court.
She has the ball now.
Good ball movement right here by Coach Hicks, has a ton of traps and full court defenses that they like to learn.
Does Kendrick Hamilton trying to move it around here to prevent being caught up in one of those?
They put back one go right there rebounded by McKinney and that was Boykin trying to push it into the middle.
Janine McKinney, pull up, jumper knocks it down.
They do not hesitate.
Kendricks first points of the game say, what?
The referee's got to be in shape in this one.
Perhaps alertly and a blocking foul.
So are you saying this is a game that you want to be a part of or not want to be a part my age?
No.
I'll take a pass on this one.
No, they've really got to be able to get up and down this.
The problem is there's no rest.
There's no time to shut up.
Kenny Kendrick is taking no more than 2 to 3 seconds to take a shot.
Jackie Colbert, number ten in the ballgame.
You saw the check in number 40, Lacy Hollis in the lineup.
It was a three point shot by Carrollton in a rose in there.
Good for Felicia Bell.
And she's their second leading scorer, our featured player.
Before the game, Felicia Bell fell, hitting 43% from behind the arc.
They've got four players.
They hit 40 plus from three point range.
And the takeaway right there and a great start by the Lady Trojans.
They look good.
They looked very good in the early going.
They're not intimidated by the pressure at all.
Three pointer by Boykin off and a takeaway right there by Hollis.
So far, Kendrick has not really been able to get into press mode.
Good point.
And Derrick has been able to run a halfcourt set.
They've been able to score at it.
And look at this problem for Kendrick.
One shot and then a Carolina rebound and taken away trying to squeeze that ball inside it easily but it wasn't there It took 3 seconds to shoot that time and a three point shot for Barclay.
Here's the pressure right here.
But again, Carrollton quickly able to get through it.
Felton showing a lot of speed here in the early going, that three point shot off the mark here in the corner.
And now the Lady Cherokee's back and running the other way.
And that time stamp lost the handle on it and had the bell turnaround Great move inside afternoon Felicia Bell beautiful play on the break and they are beating Kendrick at their own game taking this 9 to 5 lead under 4 minutes remaining in the opening quarter Kendrick with the basketball right here they like to score points out of transition and that three point shot off the mark right here.
But they haven't really had a lot of transition opportunities here early.
Nice pass by Boykin couldn't convert it open Look at the three they're momentarily kicked out open attempt Temple Wiley in its third Brittney Riley with her second field goal of the first quarter that 1a3 point shot she's got five and it's a 12 five Carrollton lead Good shot.
Thompson has said We're going to run with it.
We're going to play with the three point shot by Kim stance right back.
Wow.
An offensive display here.
And it looks like we got a time out on the floor, 12 eight in the early going right here.
Of course, Kendrick averaging almost 80 points a game this year and they put up more than 90 twice in the postseason.
Their average margin of victory is 33 points per game.
That's pretty astonishing.
That means they haven't really been tested in scoring that 78.5 points per game.
But I suspect here now here's a that's pointer is that Boykin wily with a three Yeah but you look at Carlton's average to their right there they've averaged 61 points offensively throughout the season they've only allowed 32.
They play the same kind of game and there you see the three point field goals early.
Carrollton, two of five.
Kendrick two of three.
What you're seeing is the two Carrollton guards, Charisma Boykin and Felicia Bell are pushing it down into the paint, looking to dish or kick out for the three.
I think the reason that Carlton just called timeout a minute ago was that three point play by Kendrick.
I don't think somebody was out on her person and Stirling Hicks will do that if the players can't access it, he is quick to take them out of the ballgame right there and make no bones about it.
Some of these seniors that have been around like Myrick and Barnes, I certainly understand the way Coach Hicks works and that thinking and of course he's got 18 players over.
They're going to step in and do it and he's starting five seniors.
That's that's called No excuses for Ultimo with the basketball right here in the corner once again, three point shot on the way and it's there again.
Brittney Riley back to back.
She's got eight.
Wow.
She's got the stroke there and the range.
Jake, I don't know if Kelsey could have drawn up a better start to this triple A girl's championship game tonight.
I agree with you, because they're showing that they can play Kendrick game.
This would be about the longest Kendrick has gone without shooting the ball zone.
Defense for Carrollton with an inside shot by McKinney off the glass.
Good looking bucket right there.
McGee's got a pass to a very nice pass here.
It's a no beating, Kendrick back in transition.
They're able to get into their offense and a another smart play right here.
That was Myrick who got the ball called the time out there the second time.
We've seen that here in this first period.
And again, the Lady Cherokee save a possession and he's taking his 32nd timeout.
I guess that's it for the half.
Absolutely.

They absolutely want to encourage folks to become a member today.
Of course, a lot of benefits right there.
Want to continue to keep great high school sports like these basketball games and football games on the air right here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
They're good.
Look at our officials, Larry Stoll, Steve Odom and Tony Lewis, the three officials working this triple j girls contest last year as a long time leader of the officials down in Albany, Georgia, another miss by Kendrick Hilton has been quick to put up shots that was wouldn't go right back down to Ashley Barley and she pushes it.
And it's good to be on the floor before the shot.
You know, this is a Kendrick team, though, that's certainly not in any kind of panic mode.
As we've mentioned, they have started slow a lot this year and have been able to come back five points.
Certainly nothing for those guys to express over.
If high school basketball had a shot clock, the easiest job in the world would be to start that clock against Kim.
In fact, you would have to say a few seconds wouldn't be reset.
And there's a bucket off the inbound.
Two points inside for the Lady Cherokees on the other end.
Carrolton open walk here approach row adds two more and again Felicia Bell driving the middle addition Barley thought about the three point shot and travel going to be called on Kendrick 1712 Carrollton leads it They're going to look at Kim stance coming back in for Kendrick averaging 9.6 points a game this year 511 senior for those who saw the double girls final between Wesleyan and Kreider, that was a snooze and points compared to this three point shot again on the way by Carrollton and is there wow charisma Boykin with her first points of the night four different lady Trojans already in the scorebook in just about everyone with a three point basket.
Here they come again.
BALLIN First, my boy King out front, two and one on the other end, and that one thrown behind the intended target boys and then out of bounds.
Naturally.
Their first miscue on the fastbreak in this ballgame.
Tolbert back in the lineup for Kendrick along with number three Banita Harris the five three junior Harris averaging two and a half points a game.
You know when you look down this Carrollton roster deck just about everybody in the starting lineup is averaging in double figures Prothro is the only one that's not she's averaging nine a game so that take has been pretty spread out That's close enough I guess there but they're not playing for the lifestyle so got it back Great look inside of a pretty big name McKinney with six points and that pass was from Ashley Garland Beautiful Carrollton able to get the ball in play so quick.
Kendrick really hasn't been able to set up a lot of those passes because the Lady Trojans have it to take their time about getting that ball out of bounds.
They didn't find it right back to the Carrollton guards.
Belle and Boykin are just not hesitant to drive into three players right there south of the free throw line.
They're happy to do that.
Look for that kick out for the wing.
Deandra Barnes back in six foot senior averaging 9.3 points a game Carrollton inbound here with 22 seconds left in the quarter 03. shot on the way from the corner short back and running the other way is Barlett numbers against this she'll take it all the way anyway Barkley with five points a mere turnover but watch a ten second count here broken trying to get it across to Justin.
Time and time expires here.
Very fast paced triple-A girls championship and after one it's 20 to 16.
Carrollton leads Kendrick.
We're back to the Cineplex.

Georgia's electric membership corporations lighting the way Career Coming soon to Georgia Public Broadcasting.
This is Georgia public broadcaster your PBS station and now broadcasting in digital in the Atlanta area Carrollton 820 point first quarter They lead Kendrick by four John Nelsons the other member of our team.
John what's going on?
My head in both huddles as we were in the quarter break, Sterling Hicks not happy.
He wants him to step out more on defense and make sure that the sideline is your friend.
And don't call any more timeouts unless I call him Carrollton.
Sean Thomas Dean said, Keep doing what you're doing.
Everything's fine.
All right.
Sounds good, John.
And indeed, it's a situation where they had to burn those two timeouts for possession, which is a smart thing to do.
But early on you don't want to have to use up those timeouts because you may need them later.
No, now he's just got the full timeouts here in the half.
John McKinney working inside for Kendrick and observation about while we report that foul we were a little bit off on this ballgame because here's Kendrick averaging almost 80 points a game but it's Carrollton at the end of one that is on pace to score 80 points in the ballgame.
And so Carrollton is running with him, no question about it.
But the situation to where the Trojans have really given Kendrick a little time to set up those traps so they've been able to really beat him down the floor.
Carrollton appears to be the the team that, you know, will press you out of the building a little bit more.
So.
Well, and of course, Kendrick is not converting their jump shots down down at that end.
There's a game they like, the midrange jumper, it's apparent, but they haven't really converted many of them inside jump the Raptors good for Barnes very Andre Barnes first points that's the shot they like and she knocks it down.
Both teams have four players in these four, both that were knocked away from behind and right back to the Lady Cherokees tied at 20 looking to take the lead here pull up off the glass won't go for Barkley and take it down one and out once again that was a big big rebound by Janice Leach.
Initially that was a big rebound and traveling going to be called on the lady Trojans.
But we can maybe put a little shot right here.
So you'll see that against that kind of fierce pressure, but that momentary stumble that results in a travel violation.
So Sterling hits eighth season ad Kendrick undefeated here tonight, trying to go perfect on the season and wrap up that first elusive state championship.
The first beat Hephzibah.
The quarter finals came back and beat the whole area in these semifinals the other night.
There's a three point shot by Cameron Myrick with her name on the score.
But their first points of the night and again, we forget that she averages 12 points a game.
The scoring very evenly balanced on the Kendrick Lady Cherokees today.
McKinney has led the way with 18.6.
But everybody really in this lineup gets involved from top to bottom.
It's it's one thing to dress out 18 players it's another for all the other to contribute.
That's right That's exactly right.
Pull up jumper that shot too strong from my record back the other way Beautiful look inside Ealy and one I'll just mix and say this is a Carrollton team that does have a little bit of size but they obviously like to shoot it from outside the big really getting it done inside too.
Well, they are.
They're just they're getting the great looks from the guards, from what's your name?
Charisma Boykin and from Felicia Bell.
They're just giving great looks down low.
Here's an example.
Tosses it right down to the open player who gets fouled as she documents.
And now a chance really for the old fashioned three point play, which has got three points for Ali.
And it's tied again at 23 all and even with the way Carrollton got out of the gate Kendrick again quietly tying up the game, Riley taking the lead.
And there it is again, Lacey Hollis with three points.
Absolutely.
That is excellent.
I didn't realize the tech lead the scoreboard so high above us here.
And look how that went off the mark.
Another great save by McKinney.
Two lady Trojans collide right there still down on the floor.
That shot short from Ely back the other way.
And one of the Celtic players still down and they will stop play right here and officials time out.
That is Brittany Wiley on the floor.
She collided with her teammate and is still down.
Well, that was a quite a shot right there.
Those two going after the loose ball and just that was a football type collision without the pads.
But it was interesting that Carlton didn't hesitate after the collision.
There was a quick penetration, a fast shot.
They are quick.
But you're right, Kendrick has taken the lead somewhat quietly because they were missing a lot of shots in the early going.
But then that three point shot and two mid-range jumpers have really helped them.
Here it is right here.
no.
Yeah, that's that's the kind of head knocking that you don't want to see.
They're going to look at Wiley, but she is okay off on her own power right there.
Brittany Wiley, her points this season, ten points, five rebounds, two assists for these seniors.
Good line right there and shooting so well tonight we're going to look at Kendrick number four Kim stamps 511 senior starter back of the lineup record 6 to 3 zone for Carrollton inside McKinney had it knocked away kept alive though Myrick pull up jumper knocks it down They love that mid range jumper right in the paint about eight nine feet eight and they're not being contested on those jump shots Time out called from the Carrollton bench by Coach Foulston.
He knew his team was in trouble right there.
Kendrick able to get the trap set and nowhere to go with the basketball.
Sure.

Nicely done.
Thank you.
I just got tired of you working out your voice on know that.
I do.
I watch prep sports.
Plus it's a great, great, great show.
Extra fee for that from what I've been told from the truck there.
So three point shot on the way and it's there for Wiley so so much for being banged up while ago comes right back it it picks up I believe her third three pointer the first half back on the other end that shot off the back right there Colbert Hilton again with the rebound and they push it, push, push it and they don't care who's there.
I'm fascinated by this.
But the two guards, Boykin and Bell, just like to go right down the pain.
It doesn't make you nervous.
How many people are gathered there?
Carrollton Five, four, ten from the field, from three point range, 53 point range, 3.5 for Kendrick.
But that's how you stay in the game.
Shoot 3%.
Absolutely.
Well, it's one thing to shoot 50% from the field, it's another from three point range.
I think that says a lot.
There's another inside that was Ealy that was a lovely left handed drive both teams basket for basket here in this first half that shot off the mark that time they came out and played that jump shot in the middle of the free throw line 2820 71. game four and a half to play in the first half Allen knocked away by the Lady Cherokees Nice post defense finally will set up top here takes a peek over go picks now it's a man to man for Carroll Myrick Good dish right through the open look by Barnes just good hit it first push push right into the paint and she takes the middle jumper provoking short rebound Garland finally gets to the cross guarded by Ealy pull up jumper that shot off the mark Both teams with a lot of open looks just all of a sudden unable to hit them.
The team, especially Carrollton, could miss early on the team here she goes into the middle again inside, threw up a shot.
That's their footing.
Good ealy And now back the other way.
I'm sure these officials both tell you what.
I hope they're in sync.
They've got to be up and down.
Great.
Look inside.
But traveling, little indecision right there.
You saw that little short hop from Barnes before she actually went up with it.
Well, the offensive strategies seem relatively similar.
Kendrick was trying to get the ball in for the mid range jumper somewhere just short, short of the free throw line.
And Carrollton just has those guards punish the ball into the paint.
Hollis back of the line of 332 time out on the floor 2827 Carrollton over Kendrick by a point we're back with more live from the make it center flex when we return.
The broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association, the GHC.

Well, it may be a little cooler outside this weekend.
Snow flurries and making this morning, but the action indoors here at the Macon Cineplex is no doubt hot.
28, 27, Carrollton and Kendrick up and down the floor with the lady Trojans clinging to a one point lead.
This is fun because these teams, their styles are so far so similar and it's just run and gun basketball, hard pressure defense, full court.
You know, sometimes when we cover a game like this, we look only watch across the court at us.
During the break, I look behind us.
Wow I think half a kill so hard foul.
Right.
They're going to be called on Lacy Hollis and that will be a two shot foul is that he's really hit the deck pretty hard right there.
Carlton players are taking a beating day there you see, they go up and she's grabbed the apex of her jump right on the arm and knocks her to the floor.
Take it over there.
I don't know which of the girls got her there.
That was Hollis.
I do believe they call that one on.
So Janice Ely, the five nine junior averaging 12.1 points a game this season, six six rebounds and 2.6 steals at the line here knocks down the first great season for that young lady right there.
Just a junior will be back next year for Coach Thomas Turner.
This killed the team.
It's tough to take a hard, hard hit like that, get up and address a free throw.
She's doing just fine with the two in terms of the game comes away with points.
They lead it by three mid-range jump shot again and it's there for Morath and in other officials time out here after the shot there early a little bit banged up I think still from that foul a while ago after she shot the free throw she got to about midcourt to stop.
Yeah, I think I think she's still hurt.
I don't look her over.
I'm sure she'll be back.
However, boy, I tell you what, to hang in there and shoot those two free throws and to make them right is just unbelievable.
It was great concentration on her part, really with seven points here in the early going.
Is Kendrick a terrific trap Traffic trap right in the deep corner they are going to get some own high though for the foul.
Hi is coming here a couple of times.
Coach Hicks will rotate him in and out all night long and of course, in the bonus right here.
So Carlton will shoot a front out of the one and 1 to 6.
Brittney Wylie for while, he's had a huge first half 511 senior tonight with a three point shot last year that missed on the front end She's got 11 averaging ten kids stamps, pulls up, takes the shot unable to get the roll ball is still on the floor.
The put back by McKinney would go and taken out of there by Wiley big rebound by Wiley good possession one point game under 3 minutes left here in the half Miss Kendrick teen doubles up quickly ferociously Lisa fouled back up top with five points in this first half.
Before that we focused on our time for the pre game so the Lord's general out there as well as a trap able to get it out of there.
You see how quickly they got to that trap.
They'll get bounce pass, kick it back out, three point shot on the way short and take it away by him at the America now she's being pressured Kendrick able to get it out of there and across the 3 seconds there they had numbers step up inside the arc right there shot by Mark Wooden Go one and out still 3029 both teams after a hot first quarter.
It slowed down a little bit.
The tempo slowed down just a little bit.
Carrollton now no more of a set offense and strong player gets the ball inside and how much he can do with it and traveling going to be called on to Kendrick is outscored Carrollton 1310 so far into the second period which is close the gap up to a point of course to start out the game four it was looking good breaking the press Kendrick at first got to a step for step score very good game back into the zone defense to curl double team in the post out high they were trying to stop that midrange outside I think that's a two stance on the drive puts up the shot tough shot wouldn't go rebound broke right Wylie being guarded here Barnes 30 out along with Tolbert it's a little over Trackwork she knew a five second count was on She threw it away.
Kendrick, of course, lost in the finals in 2005, the last time in the championship game to have some the team they put out in the quarterfinals this year, 30 wins though in three of the last four years.
That speaks volumes about the job of critics and these ladies here have done is a bowl game over the last four 5 to 5 seniors starting to deliver that sneaks inside.
Nice play.
Nice job, indeed.
Underneath right there behind me today, McKinney, who enters double figures with that bucket.
And there's a foul here on the pressure just two deep fouls to called on Carrollton right here in this first half now looks like the double bonus here the rest of the final 57 seconds here this first half is more goes to the line you look at 20 high coming back into the lineup along with Hollis number 40 and he lays back in with a smile on her face.
That's good.
You say Walker misses a pair right there taken down by Hollis.
So Carlton's missed a front of a one on one, and they've missed two free throws.
Those can come back to haunt you and try again.
Year a pretty good free throw shooting team.
All of the starting five shooting 60% or better from the line this year but they're not going to be on that last trip.
40 seconds left 3130 Kendrick with the lead.
Most teams would play for the last shot.
Most teams.
Yeah, that's the key phrase there.
Nice drive inside by Marshall Drive by no camera the five six senior a 39 point the first half 3330 backward pressure once again out of there and a whistle defenders collided one knocked her teammate into the barrel player.
It's going to be the second on Ashley Barley and a little at McKinney set to come back in.
Both his coaches really keep him rotating in and out all night.
Now here's Boykin back at the free throw line after missing two.
This is our gimme Quickly back it along the stamps as he came stance three points here in this first half 511 senior here you look at Hawkins numbers today three points three rebounds and this is again over for the last two trips.
Hilton unable to take advantage from the stripe.
Kendrick quickly back down on the other end well up shot short and that'll do it.
16 minutes in the books and it's Kendrick with a three point advantage over Carrollton What a first half 3330.
Take another look here at the that's McKinney Myrick again just taking that hard drive from the right side.
Let's go that hesitation.
John Nelson standing by.
John here with coach Texas.
Almost two separate quarters out there.
From your perspective, maybe, well can they kind of play that kind of play when we come to play also?
So hopefully we can just keep battling and at the end we can wind up on top.
They were hitting the outside shots early, but then you got out there and matched them up.
Defensively, their shooting kind of went cold second quarter.
Well, hopefully they can keep staying cold.
So, you know, it's a long way to go.
We're just going keep going.
Fine, thanks.
Thanks, Sterling.
Thanks for your time.
He's up three at the break.
Back carrier.

Kendrick leads it over Carrollton in this three day state girls championship.
Let's throw at courtside.
John Nelson standing by with a couple of special guests.
John.
Thank you, Dave.
Instead of being in the principal's office, this time we're in the doctor's office.
Dr. Edwards from Carrollton, Dr. Barnwell from Kendrick.
And the new guy won the toss.
He deferred.
So we're going to start over here at the tallest man in the house, it seems.
What's it been like for you down there, Kendrick with the great women's program.
Very busy and very hectic getting ready for this big night.
That is our fifth time in the Final Four.
And we want this to be our final one, fully win it.
So what's been going on at Kendrick that everybody that you should want to know, everybody else about?
Well, first is the 40th anniversary.
So we're getting ready for a big anniversary celebration in April.
We get together for that.
That's about it.
So what's it been like for you in the in that slice of time that you've been there?
What's it been like for you there?
Exciting.
I love it.
I love what I'm doing.
I love I love our kids and our staff.
Anything else academically going on the folks need to know about.
We try to have a balanced program.
We have a good academic decathlon team, a good skill USA team, a good mark for our team.
We try to have a balanced team to get every child involved in something academically as well as athlete activities.
Okay.
Give me your honest appraisal of the first half from the Kendrick point of view.
It's too close.
Too close for us.
Okay.
Hang in there.
Okay.
He says it's too close.
He's going to hang.
Let's go to the flip side.
All right.
You're afraid to win in the first half.
What did you think?
Well, I thought it was very competitive.
It's a good combination of teams looking for an advantage over the other one.
And I think they have to go to their second or third options.
They're real deep compared to us.
They play a lot of players where you need to be a little bit smarter sometimes and trying to look at what they're going to try to give us defensively, I think.
So What's the week been like for everyone in Carrollton?
Because I know the support there for football is absolutely huge and for the other sports.
What's the week been like for Girls Hoops?
Well, it's been a lot of excitement.
Obviously.
This is our first opportunity to play for the state championship.
The community has really rallied around these student athletes and you can probably tell by the number of people then coming down to Macon to observe the game, that school spirit and community spirit is quite high right now.
So what else is going on at Carrollton High School that you'd like to tell folks about, maybe on the academic side or anything else that comes to mind?
I would word we're very excited in Carrollton.
We are in the midst of a roughly 26 month project in which we're a new building and renovation of $22 million.
So that's very exciting for us, the opportunities it will provide for us academically and athletically.
So look in the crystal ball for me really quickly, five, ten years down the line, how would you like to see things grow and evolve there in Carrollton, well, five, ten years down the line?
I hope that we continue that tradition.
We have a motto that tradition never graduates and we hope that the student athletes that you see here today being ambassadors on the basketball court are back in our community and making contributions.
Okay.
In about 20 seconds, I'll ask you the same question, Dr. Barnwell.
Five or ten years down the line, what would you like to see Kendrick be in the forefront in all areas?
We are doing a lot of great things already, but just improve upon what we're doing already and just be getting better and better in everything.
That's what life's been like here in the doctor's office.
Dr. Edwards.
Dr. Barnwell.
And by the way, he's got one of the coolest Letterman jackets every single time we show up here in Macon with the big K on it.
And you know where he is when it comes to the stands, no doubt we've got some halftime highlights and stats.
There's a vicious rumor.
Let's send it back over to Dick and Dave.
All right.
Thanks, Jon.
Great job right there.
And he had Dick as far as this basketball game, right.
Eric Kendricks surviving that early surge there by Carrollton.
They maintain a three point advantage at halftime break.
BARNWELL If you're from Kendrick, it's too close.
Yes, because they're the undefeated team in this venture.
Absolutely.
Let's take a look back at some of the plays that stood out there in the first half.
Lots of action, Dick.
Yes, indeed.
And of course, there you have Carroll pushing it straight down the middle.
They're trying to take away the pressure from Kendrick.
Kendrick early on with a nice three point opportunity from Shea Lewis.
Well, that was Ashley Bartley, I'm sorry.
And then responding in kind is Brittany Wiley of Carrollton.
The inside game is what carries Kendrick looking for that jump shot right in the free throw line area and there this is strong post play from Ginny McKinney it out look at it right here Myrick again knocked it down that shot we've seen a few of those there indeed in that first half and of course back on the other end, Carrollton answering another big three point shot, knocking it down right there and just a great job there.
Brittany Wiley certainly with her share of them.
Of course, the numbers right there, 11 of 23, 47% from the field for Carrollton, 42% for Kendrick, three point field goals.
Again, both teams knocking them down right here, of course, rebounds, 18, 15, turnovers, 11 seven to win.
Did a great job by both teams in the first half and 3333 point ballgame.
The second half on the way here at the making center flags What Go ahead.
Step aside.
Be right back Kendrick in Carrollton and a three point battle at this three eight GHC State Girls championship.

This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, and now broadcasting in Digital in the Atlanta area.
A battle brewing in this triple-A Girl state championship.
Let's go courtside.
Jon Nelson standing by with Coach Thomaston.
Thanks, guys.
Here's with the coach.
There's almost two different halves out there.
You got off to the hot start and then they had the run to come back on you.
Exactly.
Right.
Now we've got to do a better job of getting back in transition.
We can't allow them to take the ball from one end of the floor to the other without somebody stopping the basketball.
We're missing too many free throws, You know, to be a state champion.
You got to make free throws.
And right now we've got to make sure that we take care of that part of the game.
If we do that, I like our chances right now.
Sean, thanks for your time.
Good luck.
He's down three.
He's got a little work to do.
Guys, back to you.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Indeed, a great first half Carrollton out of the gate strong.
That's what they needed to do is hang close to this Kendrick team and now they're in striking distance to make something happen.
I feel a ball game.
I'm telling you, Dave, I feel the ball game.
Carlton can't be nervous because they know they can play with Kendrick.
The undefeated team, the only undefeated team state Lady Cherokee's fifth consecutive semifinal here this year in 2008.
Back here in the title game, certainly have the experience here in the postseason.
I think that's one thing that they do feel good hasn't had.
A.
So that's about it, though, right now they're pretty much been able to play with this good routine step to step in the first half trail by just three right here.
Kendrick puts up the shot off the mark right here.
That was Barley back on the other end, got rid of it right here?
Or that was on the 12th bell.
Who lost their footing?
Lisa Bell, five first half points.
We talk about her a little bit up top today in the broadcast at one taken away right there barley spin move with that one knocked away Good defense by bell nice defense by Felicia Bell.
She's got to play her open just to take it out one threw the foul right there two on one take the pass in stance stayed at home didn't pick up the foul as we've been an easy bucket now here's the test for Carrollton with Felicia Bell going to the line they were one for six in free throws in the first half one for six Now let's see if they can turn that around a little bit.
And Coach Thompson said, you've got to make your free throws to win a state championship.
They'll bounce Felton with that 20 point first quarter and you'll see Benita Harris back in the lineup along with Hollis Barnes 32, will go out.
You know, I know they were they were a little tired there, but they did.
Both teams seemed to slow it down a little bit late in the second quarter.
That pace of the first quarter was almost impossible to maintain, and that was there as well for Bell two, for two for the Lisa Bell, it's a good sign for the Carrollton Lady Trojans.
Make that three zero percentage a little more respectable, make the coach breathe a little bit easier.
Barley back of the line if you see it right there for kids.
Rick Farley five seven senior discussion right here.
Did you see Coach Thomas?
Ten, ten years at Carrollton?
He's a young guy.
Looks like a young guy, though.
That's not why I thought it was me.
Thank you for saying that.
He looks so young to be a head coach.
No respect to Coach Heck.
Let's go take the coach.
Look young.
But Coach Thompson looks really young, and yet he's got a of 183 and 98.
He must wear his age real well.
I thought he came in.
I thought he was one of the players here today.
So that's in the suit, you know, just dressed up and ready to take the court in a little while or the ninth grade coach.
Nice.
Nice shot right here by stance Tim step dance.
Nice shot both teams with two points out of the locker room with 3532.
Here's Bell pushing it again and a little foul for a reason before she got to her destination.
Well to have a three points on buddy to Harris for first team second here in the second half Harrison really in a in a game like this fast paced you expect a lot of fouls only had two team fouls I believe in that first half and that's very impressive because they were they were playing tough hard defense trying to post up and he still brings it back out.
Three point shot all the way from way out there short take it down back the other way quickly by barley funny bounce on that rebound to Kendricks advantage Tyreke inside and one video Myrick knocking down her first point of the second half and fouled by Brittany Wiley But that was a nice opportunity for a three point play Great move right there in traffic First first team foul by Carrollton and now Myrick at the line trying to complete the three point play and you saw Wiley reach in for the foul She was out of position to play the player so she reached in and missed the free throw.
They've got to hit those ones at the line.
Boykin and Belle, they want to just push it all right to the paint man to man defense for Kendrick.
That should favor the speed of Terrell, not man to man.
Defense Cross-court Pass back to Belle side.
give back to Ely right there in traffic.
Tough shot with hands in the face picked up by borrowing back the other way.
Working on Eli Myrick back out.
Is it the stance stance a reset up top.
I like the game.
If Kim stands on the floor and the way for Kendrick, she she has a steady and kind of an influence.
I think she slows him when they're going too fast.
Three point shot.
The lane is there for the stands.
Well, I called her number at the right time, stands with eight points.
The senior averaged 9.6 and a timeout by Coach Thomas third and the Carrollton lady Trojans.
Kendricks trying to put a little distance of eight here with 519 left in this third period.
time out.
We'll take a time out.
Be right back.
Live to the naked center place when we return for the third quarter in a moment.
Broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association, the GHC.
We'd like to thank Dodge for their support of high school sports programing on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Dodge dealerships across Georgia are happy to help bring you the exciting action of GHC, a championship football Dodge salutes the hard work, community spirit and dedication of these two fine teens.
Dodge hopes you enjoy the game.
Kendrick Up 4032 here, 519 left in the third quarter.
And Dave, if we have bumper music right now, it ought to be highway to Danger Zone, because that's where Carrollton is right now.
They've got to score because Kendrick can run away with this eight point lead, three point shot off the mark by Boykin the long foot back right there by Wiley is there.
And that is a big basket.
Wiley has been very strong for the Lady Trojans at both ends.
You could kind of feel the momentum turning in favor of the lyric, Lady Cherokee.
So that was a big basket right there by Wiley to break the momentum because an eight point lead for a team this fast could quickly become a 12 point lead.
Right.
And then it's time to, you know, roll up the parquet floor until next year.
Well, you know, we've seen that all season long, especially the postseason.
Kendrick, of course, McKinney put up 30 against Jackson in round one, of course, as a team the last year he's put up 91 points in that game and then a few rounds later in the semifinals, in fact, last night against Monroe area, putting up 92, saving their best for last night, if you will, until coming into this game here tonight.
So it's certainly been an offensive explosion for Kendrick.
And a lot of that offense is fueled by the defense.
Obviously decreases turnovers they put back right there.
And one for Jimmy McKinney.
Nice hustle.
Nice hustle by McKinney.
Sustained after a McKinney the 510 senior averaging 18.6 points a game she's the one we talked about up top in the telecast here tonight.
But she'd been quiet in the first half.
She wasn't that noticeable figure in the first half.
And that was a big play because she stayed after her own rebound, missed the free throw.
But McKinney does have a dozen 4234 Kotex trying to get the momentum going, trying to get the adrenaline going in his ladies.
Well, I guess the key adjective for Kendrick is explosive.
They can score eight.
He's almost as quick as any score to Barnes.
Got a hand on that one on the inbound and you got to watch the way Kendrick Garza Zinnbauer plays.
So they guard everything.
I thought I could see Carrollton, though, for the most part has been able to handle the pressure you know whistle foul called on Barkley it looks like slick little move by Christian Boykin.
Yes the first part of that sequence they almost had her trapped on the sideline.
She broke into the middle of the court, then went behind her back, very slick all the way back in the lineup.
Miley will sit with three fouls early, just picking up a third right here.
Watch this one.
Got Barnes down on the ground.
Yes, it's four and a half to play.
Third period.
Good drive right there.
Inside blocking foul bell to the paint bell is not what you would call a finesse player.
She's short stature, but she's strong and she likes to power it into the banks very quick for this one.
Is there now they're starting to hit their free throws so low and high in the lineup.
511 sophomore here.
You look at Bell, eight points here tonight.
Dave, I'm glad you're checking to keep track of all these substitutions.
This is like George Jay.
I'm not I'm trying at random in the fact you couldn't count on nine points 2 to 2 on that trip by Bell is indeed hitting her free throws tonight 40 to 36 Pressure by Carol Trapp at half court made him throw it away too high for a high seven highlight is a 511 sophomore back the other way for Boston looking on right here but again that was nice defensive pressure trapped right at the midcourt line and forced her to gamble and throw that pass over the top, which is too high.
Talking with the basketball right here puts it out.
Take away deal.
Barnes on the other end lays it up wouldn't go back and foul inside here I think that was going to go against Boykin that was a good opportunity for a three point play Barnes at six feet going against the much smaller Boykin Rhonda Barnes at the line two points today.
That's the first averaging 9.36 foot senior knocking on up.
Yeah, watch out of bounds The last touch there by Carrollton.
So Kendrick will maintain possession underneath their own goal and it looked like brother may have come down awkwardly there too and may have twisted the ankle to stay in that gap and look like that ball not back to high but her foot was on the line.
So right back to Carrollton, you look at Coach Hicks, Kendrick, as you mentioned, averaging 78.5 points a game throughout the season.
They've pretty much kept that pace up during the playoffs.
That would take taken away right there and that's how Kendrick does it take three turnovers and turn into points, although they came up short, they're a tough double team in the corner Carrollton able to hang on to the possession Crazy Horse and handling that situation, trying to name a candidate where she's the leading rebounder on the team.
6.4 rebounds a game.
Farley, the leader in assists 3.3 as a team.
They shoot the ball real well from the field a lot of course points off turnovers, getting those layups over three points, dropping way out there.
A five is about a dozen points for Bell, almost her average of 13.
She's a tough little player by score.
Good luck.
Go one shot off the mark with stamps.
No going back to the lady Trojans.
Sometimes you get in a run where the out of bounds calls go your way, the loose balls go your way.
And then just like that, you can have total butterfingers.
Here's Wiley She's dishing over the right to to Felicia Bell for the three.
Got to come out and play her a little bit, don't you think?
Yeah.
She's way back there, behind the behind the arc.
And another whistle is foul on three after Colbert of the Kendrick Cherokee's The Lady Cherokees home and the five field fouls now on Kendrick free on Carrollton in this game it just a four point game 4333 12 left in the third period so here in the second half is usually where Kendrick begins to make their move and starts to pull away.
But Carrollton just hasn't let them do that here so far in.
The second half now, they got up to eight points on fourth and loses the ball off or he'll take away right there.
Myrick will pull it out.
Rogers dish.
Great look inside nice lacy Hollis.
I think it's a confidence thing too at this point is back with that down away turnover Nice job defensively by Kendrick so they've staved off that disaster about three times goes out of bounds but that time the ball goes over to Kendrick Sims Stancil inbound.
Sometimes in a game like this, you have to weather the storm, especially if you're the quote unquote underdog type team against playing a team like Kendrick.
But the problem is the storm doesn't end.
You know, the timing just keeps on coming.
And that's the way it's been here tonight.
McKinney had that one knocked away.
Good defense inside by the lady coach Janice Seely.
Nice play on the post shot from outside off the market would go for a rebound by Haley That's a lot of three from four Mr. Bell about three feet so behind that three point stripe they are really bomb and away.
I think they might be getting both teams here to fire them up from beyond the the college exit beyond the college looking at the NBA line shot off the mark right there nice saves along the baseline by Hollis but into the hands of Ely and then knocked away from behind action packed.
I tell you what my next getting a workout here tonight it is it is like a tennis match It really is a little bit of ping pong involved here.
But again, Kendrick uses so many players, it seems to me it almost seems to me they're substituting a player or two on every possession and that that that means fresh legs and and as the as the principal of Carrolton High School pointed out, they're not that deep but they don't show signs of tiring yet.
Here's Mel Schrager in the offense against a man to man defense looking at the low post.
And I think that Britney, while he was held off there on the as she attempted to post up the corner foul on Collins trying to get the inbound here three point shot from the is there Riley again again 16 points on the night for Britney Riley 4542 back to within a possession on the other end shot by Morris off the mark picked up by McKinney unable to get the ball is her own shot won't quite go ball still is finally picked up by a high and back out Kendrick resets up top Harley with the basketball momentarily over the mirror but the tough shot and one count it's the second time tonight she's done that That's so pretty crossing it all the way over the basket using the glass and rewarded with a three point effort.
13 points for Madea Myrick for the first quarter first foul on pros for 14 fouls and you see it right here.
She drove by three three Carrollton defenders as she made her way from the left corner to the right side.
The basket is a tough shot trying to complete the three point play here, trying to make it a six point game, and she does so 14 points for Myrick.
4842 Kendrick leads it by six.
They're also back and running the other way, knocked away from behind, starting to do that a couple of times now Lady Cherokees with the numbers Myrick up shot would go high with it goes right back up and they the whistle really wildly reached over she started to go vertical and she reached over on that shot and she commits the foul.
look at some old high the 511 sophomore you see the play from behind her.
It was actually high.
Who reached in there and knocked it away.
Whether Kendrick was starting to get into that backside defense as the two Carrollton guards push it, they're sending another player off the press to try and chip it out of there.
They've been successful several times.
This ad there you look at Simmons numbers this season, 2.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, an assist for the sophomore and the steal out of her next year.
So many of these seniors graduate to 4 to 7 becomes the seventh different Lady Cherokee to score here tonight inbound play and a turnover follows with a half Now the pressure's really starting to wear it out.
But you know you talk about Carrollton not going very deep.
You talk about the starting five.
Pretty much everybody averages double figures.
But beyond that, it's somewhat drops off as far as the offensive outputs, good solid players off the bench.
But really the offense does come from the start time.
Nice look.
Nice pass inside to Janine McKinney.
McKinney with 14 points and a takeaway I forget about the three with another 16 points for Janine the kidney.
Janine McKinney's a dervish out there.
She plays very hard on the other end.
Boykin draws the whistle.
But just like that, Kendrick up 5442, 13 point lead here.
Inside a minute of this period in line, how things have changed.
You know, the last few series today, McKinney has been integral to the Kendrick offense.
She's got what you call quick hops.
She goes up and she's right back up after and right back up after it again.
Looking at misses on the first, Morris is back in the lineup.
Now McKinney gets a rest because of all those quick ups right Barnes back in there as well.
McKinney with 19 last night in the series against Monroe area staffs, led the way with 24 Gibbs stamps.
She's had an excellent ballgame here tonight.
And Boykin, one of two on that trip, four points tonight for charisma.
Boykin fourth and had 20 last night to lead the way loose for Carrollton against Clint Hill's.
Loose, full court pressure looking for a trap over on the right side goes one.
How about that?
Are you kidding me?
Myrick again, strides.
She's had so many tough last line right to the basket and she averages 12 and a half a game.
When she got here she goes just 16 chance for three point play right here.
Just blowing past the lady trees and defenders unable to convert the free throw that last foul on Felicia Bell, her first six And this is Kendrick basketball I mean early on here again falling behind early which they they've got at times the field wearing teams down a little bit in the second half and now it's starting to catch up with Carrollton.
It seems like a little bit here, but still plenty of basketball.
Exactly.
Within the space of about 3 minutes, they open up a 13 point lead that's explosive.
And they did it.
They did it behind Myrick penetration and Junior McKinney's relentless play on the offensive glass.
She's just been terrific.
WILEY Back at the line here, Wiley leads the Lady Trojan effort here tonight with all the 60 points knocks down the front end of the one on one right here again in the bonus.
Both teams basically the rest of the way here and we're going to look at wireless mouse with tonight 17 points, seven boards.
Good day at the office.
It's a roll of a second.
So 18 now for Wiley.
We've got to look at number 12 Farley back of the lineup for Kendrick only one substitute that time gave Yeah I think that's the first time that we've only seen one player come in the game for either team.
And I look at Carrollton, we've got to rotate him in to keep up with the press.
If you're Kendrick, you got to rotate him in to keep the press going.
Three point shot at some time there.
I think she thought time was winding down a little bit quicker.
And another situation right there that went high off the glass.
Still a couple seconds left, Bradley, call those and now it is after all that Kendrick will have a final shot here to two bombs and still time on the clock.
All all they can do here really is just throw, catch and shoot 5 to 1 down here.
And that'll do it for the three quarters of play.
It's Kendrick 56, Carrollton of 45.
We're back with the fourth period in a moment.

5645 As we get set to start the fourth quarter, John Nelson's courtside with more on Carrollton.
John spent some time in that huddle.
Sean Thomas then told them they're only down 11 heading this quarter.
You know how we play continue to be aggressive and we will win this game, guys.
All right.
There you go.
Thanks, John.
Again, Coach Thomaston, a lot of confidence right?
And hey, why not?
His team is still very much alive in this basketball game.
They've been able to play with Kendrick all night long, although it's the Lady Cherokees with the most recent momentum.
And we've got Bobby Brown before all over the place here.
Good hustle by all the ladies.
Jump off all possession hero in favor of Carrollton comes man to man defense that time got him a steal and a takeaway and they get to break having the arrow here.
Welcome all of our viewers live on the air right here at GPB, the GHC State Basketball championships championship weekend right here.
It's been a magnificent weekend.
It has been a lot of great games, a lot of close games.
This one no different.
It becomes a bit of a blur.
And you like that, right?
Shot right there.
Bifocals off the mark for us.
One more here tonight to officially wrap up championship weekend.
It's the triple AA boys contest Glen Hills and Carver that one later on tonight at 845 right here on GPB Carver of Columbus with a huge upset over Dunwoody last night.
The Hills nearly had two teams here.
Of course, the girls team falling to this Carrollton team last night right here in this building in the semifinals.
That's another thing, too.
You know, you got two teams that like to run up, especially Kendrick, both coming off of emotional semifinal games last night.
That's when you see it again when you get 18 girls on the roster.
Good for you and you're going to play back to back.
You know, speaking of GPB, remember next fall for the first time, all five classifications, state final football games in the Georgia Dome on GPB.
You got to love that to be looking forward to it and charging Myrick tried to do too much there She'd been successful on either side of the basket that time.
She took it straight up the middle and was guilty of the player control foul.
So she doesn't this time she doesn't try to slash to the side.
She just takes it straight up.
And there Janine Sealy was waiting for him, takes the charge.
Good defensive positioning by Eli Hilton with Boykin able to split a couple of defenders right there.
Eli had it knocked away and out of bounds.
It will stay with Carrollton.
Both teams looking for that first state title changes the first five times in the last five years of the series for us here.
The championship game tonight and for any school that first state to state title putting that thing in the trophy case.
man, come back with your kids and say, hey, I was part of this a big deal.
Life is Hoosiers.
It's all good.
Yeah.
Brady Cherokees, of course, undefeated in here.
Perfect.
The only undefeated team in the championships this entire weekend stands good position on the rebound.
Push, push, push as pastor out there feed and inside up and in great interior pass by Janine McKinney.
She does a lot of things Barnes with the bucket five points for Theodora Barnes Carrollton back to the way Great look right there Ealy off the glass and Belle pushing it again to the advantage of the Carrollton Lady Trojans.
620 5847 Still an 11 point game.
A lot of people don't realize what an arc good interior passing from post players is.
It kind of went away from the game a while.
There's some teams occasionally Parker who comes to mind where they where they really do the interior passing from one side of the post to the other beautifully well for additional information on the game, go to GPB Dawg back slash basketball and also want to remind folks to about hear, hear the new gripping show true life story this April.
And of course, for more on the story you can go to score Atlanta dot com as score ATL dot com also Gymboree back slash basketball other reporters and score Atlanta are writing live blogs on all the action so all kinds of programing and all kinds of updates right here right now update you while you were telling us about the upcoming program Tara Prothro scored for Carrollton then on the blog post six points for peripheral 537.
Interesting.
Kendrick goes to a spread offense, actually running a little bit of clock for the first time and the shot right there by Howard.
So take a little block off it and convert the points.
Double team in the corner again, they keep falling into that little trap there, but they got it out and the ball goes to Eli into the corner.
Boy, Bell thought about the three turtle in the lane.
They're blocking foul ball.
And you know what?
They have released bell solid evening If Kendrick runs that full court the four corners offense they just showed effectively down the stretch or thereabouts he loves to drive down in their heart does Felicia Bell and she's more often than not is rewarded with the foul but knocks down the three players is a good solid at the line here tonight.
Yes she has that first half apparently was uncharacteristically one for six free throw shooting for the lady Trojans of Carrollton.
3:00 Colbert back in.
There you go.
Look at Bell's output here tonight, 13 points right on her average.
Let's start the second ten point game, 6050.
Now, let's see if they go to that spread.
They're trying to the Carrollton jumps out with a blitz in the zone trap which tries to mitigate that spread offense.
But they are going to run some clock, we think.
I see them do this Barnes is open they're underneath long ago and the bucket right there.
Wow nice job there by Myrick that's how they do it.
That was beautiful before we can right the basket finally Mutya Myrick and the book they've got another one.
Unbelievable quick time out on the floor right here.
A full time out taken by Coach Armistead and the Lady Trojans are just like that Kendrick wide in the gap here a little bit in this fourth quarter.
Same lyric Take it right to the basket.
She knocks it down then on the inbound as Carrollton tries to put it inbound.
Beautiful steal by Ashley Barley.
I think it was Ashley Barley, was it?
It was by by Barnes Yeah.
Yeah.
Deandra Barnes beautiful steal quick They scored.
They're in about 2/10 of a second.
Crowds in the house here tonight.
You you've heard the Cameron crazies.
But how about the Kendrick and Carrollton crazies?
There's a lot of fans here in the house tonight from both sides of you Love to see it.
Boy, it's certainly made for a great atmosphere, a lot of organized cheering.
Sometimes the cheerleaders don't get much of a response.
They're getting it tonight.
There's a lot of that going on and a lot of good natured back and forth between the fans of the two schools.
It does appear to be really good natured.
A lot of noise here and why to see that Now, Carlton can't repeat that mistake on the inbounds pass.
There's the trap, stumbles through it, gets it away.
So that's how Kendrick plays the game.
I mean, you saw that last sequence right there.
It's pretty much the epitome of what they do.
A nice little drive right here, though, Wylie.
He hits the 20 point plateau for Carrollton.
He's got a nice ball game, and Kendrick will force you into turnovers.
There's not a lot you can do about that.
That might be the first time.
All leaving that Mark has brought it out.
Well, obviously, Kendrick being undefeated, I don't know what you do to try to beat the team, but they're trying to slow him down.
No one's been able to figure that out this year.
That's why they're here in the championship game.
That's why they're unbeaten.
That would take it away, though, and that's charisma.
BOYKIN With the ball, that'll get across the time line there She does.
So under 4 minutes left you see the field goes right here, 46% for Carrollton, 48% for kids with respectable shooting by both sides of foul ball there.
Along the line, in fact looks so good in that one.
So those are both good percentages going to be four on miracle.
We'll come over and talk to Coach Hicks, but we'll stay in the game right now.
And as you see, Felicia Powell back at the line.
Boy, Bell.
Bell has certainly earned a lot of a lot of time here at the charity stripe.
This is on the first.
She's made a living there, though, tonight.
She's played a fine game.
She looks at times out of control.
But there's a method to it.
She's trying to push that ball in the paint and make something happen, whether it puts her on the line or she finds the open player.
And I think coach will keep Mickey Myrick in the game because he's running that spread offense and she seems to be the key to it from those last several possessions, Bell knocks it down 11 point lead with 342 left.
That's two over Farley quick to take it back out right here Kendrick content to work a little bit of time off that clock okay turnaround traveling to be called on today Kendrick Brown not like it that one she was battling trying to spin move there on the post.
You know it's funny when we talk about the you know running clock the definition there between what Kendrick does when they run clock and what other teams do.
I mean, so they run running clock is running maybe 5 seconds seconds off instead of taking a shot two or 3 seconds.
I know.
It's just amazing how quick they are and how quickly they operate.
They're open, certainly with their work cut out for them right here.
They trap.
So well, that was right in front of us.
You could see it.
It was effectively done.
Great defense there.
The ball comes to miracle on the way out.
She's got it with the left hand take away by Buddy to Harris, who quickly found Myrick just unable to finish.
Now Boykin dribbling back the other way.
Bell three point shot on the way and it's there.
Felicia Bell 17 points tonight.
And all of a sudden that leads down to eight with that little more than two and a half minutes left and still very much a ballgame here tonight inside to make it, Center Flex GHC Girls State championship on the line.
Both teams looking for the first time play offense against a man to man defense.
It McKinnie in the corner full spread Alan McKinney the triangle one on one in there so she kicks it out Now we go back to the standard 11 and the foul to stop the clock by Billy Chevelle.
Now the parade of the free throw line begins.
I present.
Yes, well, if you care, Carrollton, you really don't have any choice.
But to come out foul.
And you can't let that clock run down inside 3 minutes.
Well, in that delay offense, Kendrick is probably run off a minute and a half since they went to.
No, you're right by their likes.
That's a lot of time.
What a great game.
This young lady McNamara scored 16 points.
Make it 1765 56.
Another one on the way.
Coach Hicks still pace on the floor.
You can't declare that any game like.
This is ice just because the speed of these two teams right here for two by Myrick Well and that was a key we brought up earlier the last two years Kendrick is lost in the state semifinals in the last minute of the game, lost to Avondale in six in the final minute, lost a used car last year, the final minute.
This is a Kendrick team that takes nothing for.
Granted, I assure you that I'm in here tonight and out of this shot and Kim Stamps brings the ball up and should pull it out.
So I said Myrick had different idea.
That's her shot and that's about the fifth one.
Like that crossing from left to right.
Martina Myrick with 20 points, five six senior, certainly not the tallest player on the floor, but boy, very quick and has really been the team leader this year.
I bet you tell us she got bored with that spread offense that Four Corners.
Actually, I think so.
I don't mean that to be critical.
However, I'm sure the coach says if you've got the key line to the basket, the straight line to the basket, you take it and she did.
And you see Belle right there went down hard, slow getting up and obviously in pain.
And I hope it's cramps because she's played so hard.
I hope it's nothing more serious than that.
I think that's I think that's probably what it is.
That's what it appears to be.
At least let's hope.
Meanwhile, 68, 56, just a minute, 46 left to play.
But as we know, that's an eternity in basketball sometimes.
It sure is.
You know, Dave, we've seen a lot of basketball this weekend.
here's the play in which Bell goes to the basket ball slapped away from behind.
she tripped and got that right leg under her.
Yeah.
Could be an ankle.
It just caught under her when the ball was stripped away.
I hope she's all right.
But the you and I have seen now for women's state championship games, and I've got to tell you, we may have saved the best for last.
You just got to like these Kendrick Cherokees, like stamps, like McKinney, like Myrick they really made themselves felt over the course of this game.
And they played intelligently and at a just such a high rate of speed.
Yes.
That takes nothing away from Carrollton and Janice Easley and Felicia Bell and Charisma Boykin and especially Brittney Whaley, who played a great game.
But the three Kendrick players who stand out or stamps McKinney and Myrick, to my mind, and those are the ones that have stood out in the playoffs.
You mentioned Myrick, of course, had a big game last night, stamps at 24 last night, McKinney 19, and then back in round three, those three that you just mentioned in double figures.
Myrick leading the way that night with 22 points.
And you know, it's been a situation where all five starters have been in double figures in many games this year.
That was the case in round two against Liberty County where they actually practiced against Coach Cannon.
The boys coach is six foot six because they knew they were going to go up against the tall post players there and were able to get it done.
Felicia Bell carried off the court to the Carrollton bench and now Carrollton resets its offense.
As I mentioned today, McKinney had 30 points in round one against Jackson when they put up 91 points in the fourth, put up 92 last night.
So they did some scoring last night, came in here today, had a quick turnaround right there and flirting with 70 here.
I don't know who that foul is on it.
They put it up foul was on Myrick at the free throw line and Kasey Billingsley knocked down the first Billingsley a54 junior puts up a shot, hits Billingsley with a pair of shoes in for the injured Felicia Bell And a push right there by going to get called right there along the baseline back down on the other end.
Now Melvin then you can see a ten point spread with about a minute 38 left.
It's a tall order for Carrollton.
But but again, it can be done now it's up to Kendrick to make their free throws down the stretch.
And this is Ashley Barley.
She gets the first opportunity here to see if they can seal the deal with the free throws down here, the front end of the one and one knocks it down.
First points of the second half for Ashley Barley Stout, six back to an 11 point game.
You see the points there, eight points, seven rebounds for the senior nice solid game in the state championship game.
Still the pressure, still the double team, still the trap.
I think that's the only way they know how to play.
That's right.
You just dance with what Birmingham three point shot short by Wiley kept alive though nicely by Billingsley and a while he leans in tough shot with no paisley and those stays with it puts it up and Riley with 22 but a wonderful game offensively and a foul by Boykin a quick foul right there pretty much going to be a free throw battle from here on out it looks like with a minute 13 and almost no time running off the clock.
Both teams play so fast.
Myrick will go back to the line right here, back into the game for Kendrick as Lacy Hollis.
I guess she's going to play the back end of that press knocks it down 21 for the key of Myron Carrollton of course, their road, Elbert County at round one, Westminster, round two big game.
There was number one, Franklin County of round three.
They defeated 4833.
And of course last night over Clint Hill, 6344, Boykin with 20, Wiley with 13 with 12.
Goodness surpassing Felicia Bell back in the game and I think it was cramps.
I was watching the work on her over there on the Carrollton bench and I think she was just suffering cramps from exhaustion, dehydration, what have you.
Great drive right there by Dell Cramps.
Yeah, I don't think so.
Coast to coast, I think is what that's called the foul right here.
Belle is limping now but the foul on Boykin you look at Coach Thomas right there ten seasons has done a great job at this field.
The program the lady Trojans find themselves in the state championship game here tonight.
Now, later line now he needs the proverbial miracle and a lot of missed free throws by Kendrick.
Think again on the way Put it in the Miss And of course that does not allow Kendrick to set up their press return quickly back down on the other end spin tough shot.
He had a chance in three point play.
But while he will earn a trip to the line, Wallace played a great game, much more dominant.
The second half first half she was knocking down the threes.
The second half she's been going to the basket and doing a variety of things.
You see that spin move there as she shoots it up.
Barely missed the hit pretty hard, knocks down the first Billingsley back in the lineup.
Foul will take a breather Nope 22 Boykin will go out they're going to look at wily 21 points here tonight seven rebounds knocks down the second.
Make it 22 points for Wiley.
The quick foul there 7164.
Felicia Bell with a quick foul and maybe a second or two ran off the clock.
The Lady Cherokee is a 58% free throw shooting team from the line there.
So not certainly not remarkable in that sense, but still pretty solid from top to bottom in the lineup there.
Well, think about it this way.
When you play that many players, probably 58% of the free throw line isn't that bad.
Normally you think about teams that go seven and eight deep and you expect them to shoot better than that at the line.
But hey, they go 18.
Well, it's viewers like you that help make great local programs like these high school basketball games possible on GPB To show your support, simply visit our website at WW W dot GPB dawgs backslash support and thank you for supporting Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And next year all five state final football games in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
That's going to be a full of football right here on GPB.
Absolutely.
And I've enjoyed this weekend of high school basketball.
I've been coming out here to make it for 11 years now, and I don't believe I've ever felt it as cold as it as it was this weekend.
Normally, it's a little bit warmer on championship weekend, but certainly a good night to be indoors watching some high school here.
Well, Dave, I'm flattered to be asked to join you.
You're the veteran on this, the newbie, but I've really enjoyed it.
They're going to look at what's up next.
Glenn Hills and Carver, the final championship game of the week in the Boys State Championship coming up next live right here on GPB.
Ashley Barley with the free throw, knocking it down and basically it's elementary for Kendrick.
If they're able to hit the free throws they're going to Ashley barley wind Ashley barley riding the ship here after missing a couple second one on the way and it's good 7364 with under a minute remaining still with the fierce pressure just pounding the ball handler three point shot from Belle on the way short and this is everything now we'll see if if Kendrick uses this last 35 seconds to extend their offense and run the delay or will they be fouled quickly and their foul quickly, this time by Brittney Wylie.
Tell you what well-played game hard fought game, just a fun one to be a part of.
Absolutely.
You know in Carrollton they've got to feel good about this.
This is a team that averages this Kendrick team from Columbus that averages about 80 points a game.
They're having to claw and scrap here to get up around the 75 mark of Kendrick playing pretty much game by the same margins they're used to.
They win by these huge margins.
And as you're expecting a state final, this one is much closer up.
Carrollton even surprised me by coming out and playing the same game, running, gone.
Let's go and let's play freshman defense.
Let's run them down wherever we can to close.
It certainly came to play here tonight as Barley adds two more.
They're two for two on that trip Carrollton just starting to seniors they've got a lot of younger players that will be back next year as we go inside the final 30 seconds.
That one off the glass right there for Reggie Wylie coast to coast.
A nice little spin move.
Nicely done by Brittany Wiley.
The quick foul by Felicia Bell.
And once again, going to the line is Ashley Barley.
I was going to say that there should have been a memo stop following Ashley Barley.
Take a look at some scores from earlier this afternoon.
It's been a full day of championship.
All the girls a championship going to Calvary Day.
We defeated Terrell County 5540 6783 for the first three seemingly boys contest with the Hancock Central Great game, a four point game Hancock Central over Turner County First Wesleyan over Pi Day in the Double-A girls State Championship.
This double Double-A boys action wrapping up it was Gresley beat East Lawrence 6143 So a Wesleyan sweep in Double-A and here we are now in triple-A, a third state championship for Gwinnett Norcross Boys winning the five last night.
West then winning a double dip today.
Where is the Westminster, the Wesleyan headmaster Zach Young, said this happens about as often as Halley's Comet.
There you go.
And of course, yesterday, a full day of boots and a full evening at the arena going Exeter southwest, a cab on the girls side winning the free state title over Fayette County, 6246.
Of course, Columbia winning on the boys side, 6963 over Fayette county, Stevenson over Redan in the five April state championship.
And of course, as you mentioned, Jake Norcross, the winner over Wheatland last night.
And that's a58 boys game.
There is a great game and water for what athletes.
That was a phenomenal game to watch.
And of course the wheelchair basketball championship also wrapping up and a great game there.
Atlanta Wolfpack edging out the Cavs silver streaks.
Junior Seely makes the free throw for Carrollton Trojans really in double figures as well.
14 seconds left and now the Kendrick faithful can feel it.
But again, as we mentioned, the Lady Cherokees taking nothing for granted.
They know how it works.
They've lost some heartbreakers in the past.
And look at the close out this final 14 seconds with their first state championship.
An undefeated season to win the state championship, the only one in the state of Georgia if you care.
Myrick at the line with the cameras right here, putting it up for that.
We do want to remind folks about viewership on GPB.

All right.
Knocking down another three for just an excellent ball game right there.
You see the hugs on the sideline, the emotion starting to fall out a little bit here.
Fell three point shot off the mark.
Final kicks off the clock here and a foul with just 4 seconds left.
Ten point game right here.
And the Lady Cherokees are going to get out of here with that first state.
It's been so elusive, but we're talking about coach Linda Lofton and Hephzibah.
A few years back, I took the 49 years to get that title, of course, defeated Kendrick right there.
