Live from the Georgia Dome, it's the Washington County Golden Horns against the La Grange.
Granger's.
The three day semi final from Atlanta.
And good afternoon, everybody, and welcome.
I'm Jim Tanaka, along with Mark Lassiter.
Two great defenses come into this one.
But I'll tell you what, Mark, there's some great offensive players as well.
Great offensive players.
First off, from Washington County, Stacey Walls.
He's the player's unusual combination of strength and speed.
Had 12 carries last week, but 238 yards.
He's a player that they're going to have to account for on defense.
Stacey's going to make some key plays.
Earlier, we talked to the head coach, Rick Tomlin.
Well, the greens, he has a great defensive team.
I mean, their reputation precedes itself and we hopefully we can run the football and run it effectively.
We'll take our shots in the passing game, you know, and we'll try to hit the high percentage passes and give our quarterback an opportunity to to run or pass in the passing plays that we call.
But hopefully we can go in and run the football, establish ourselves.
Coach Tyrell And now meantime, on the other side of the ball, La Grange comes in another great offense led by Justin Patterson.
Both teams have run heavy gym, but unfortunately, La Grange doesn't have the gaudy numbers here, not as high as 4000 yards of Washington County, but they do have running back is averaging six yards per carry.
Now, on the other side of the ball defensively, they had not given up a point in five straight games led by Braxton Kelly.
Braxton Kelly is the man they're going to have to account for on defense because wherever he goes, that's what he plays when he made he come into that country with over 100 tackles this season.
Earlier, we talked to head coach Steve Pardue.
Well, our football team's built on our defense.
We've we've had five shutouts in a row.
We gave four touchdown on this offense a couple weeks ago, but we won last week two to nothing on the safety were led by Wesley Woodyard.
He's one of three seniors to start on defense we're very young there and Wesley's scored four touchdowns and fumble recoveries are two linebackers.
Travis Hart and Trey Blackman are really the heart.
And so offensively we were out of the wing T Ricky Tucker our full backs are only returning starter there and he's had a solid year.
Justin Parsons Our tailbacks rushed for about 1200 and Demario Ford is our playmaker.
And coach Steve Pardue.
Big battle in the trenches today.
Mark, the guy covering it downstairs knows all about the trenches.
Phil Proctor joins us.
Former South Carolina lineman used the block for Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers.
Oh, Phil.
Say Jim, how are you doing, man?
You know, Jim, I got the chance to play against some real good defenses.
And today we're going to see two great defenses.
Now, what makes these guys so great?
These guys, 11 of them all going to the ball at one time, they're they're fast, they're agile.
And more importantly, these guys are quicker because of it.
I expect to see some hit rock and some body shocker.
One guy that won't be on the field today for Waco, six foot five, £309.
Seth.
What?
Seth was injured last week against west Minnesota.
So the guy taking the spot today, Trent Ingram.
We'll keep an eye on Trent, see how well he does.
But Tim, this is just like a heavyweight fight.
We're going to have to wait till the end of the fourth quarter to see who gets the knock out.
But back to you again.
All right, Bill, thanks very much.
I was talking to Coach Tomlin earlier this week.
He said it's Joe Frazier against Rocky Marciano, La Grange against Waco, the Rangers and the Golden Hawks.
Coming up next on TV.
And welcome back to.
The Georgia Dome for a Class three eight football semifinal between the Washington County Golden Hawks and the LA Grange Rangers.
And there you see the fans have packed the dome for this.
One day, Morial Ford is back to receive from the Grange as they won the toss and elected to receive Washington County.
We'll kick it off.
Jim, on the media guide for Washington County.
Their masthead says Pain is our business and business is good.
So we expect to see some serious defense as Washington County is kicking off to start the game.
We'll be talking about the pain, the house of pain, a lot about pain today between these two great defenses.
Jamie Roundtree is ready to kick it off for Washington County tomorrow.
Ford there he is.
His back deep to receive for the rangers that three a.
Football semi final from the Georgia dome and we are underway a short kick and taking out the 15 yard line by number seven and that's.
Cameron and he returns it just a few yards up to the 24 yard line.
That's where they'll start first and ten there's a starting quarterback that Todd and you see his numbers on the year with eight touchdowns that can throw the ball He's pretty dangerous in round one because he's tall He had a 63 yard touchdown pass.
So anything's possible.
And let me tell you, he's got some.
Speed when it comes to running the ball first.
Again, the handoff goes to number.
Four, Justin Patterson and Patterson picks up a couple.
We got a flag on the play.
The exchange on that last handoff, Jim, was just a bit off in its timing.
We watch teams in the past.
The trick to playing in this five game festival is the team that can come out warm up quickest and get up to its best pace early is a team that can usually get up ahead.
And this one's going to go against the Golden Hawks.
Or Incidental Facemask.
Five yard penalty on the defense.
And there you see the call by Danny Westbrook saw referee today on the field here is the offensive line for Lagrange it's Merritt Spivey Sparks Gates and Bates is the center in the backfield Tucker and Patterson, the wide receivers are Hubbard Ford and we also have Harris in the offensive.
Lineup.
Buddy come time calling audible at the line.
Of scrimmage and the handoff goes to looks like Patterson and Patterson is actually throwing for one yard loss it looks like on the play good defense by Washington County number 56 John Brown on the play there you see the defensive line up for Washington County boss Brown Ingram and what's on the line your linebackers are Archer Merrill Richardson and Jackson and Back Deep is Rawls for Nick and Gardner for Washington.
Cal second and two and the handoff to Ricky Turner.
And Turner is stopped as he tries to turn the corner against the Washington Golden Hawks and stop by a number of players.
Including number 64, Justin McGinty and number 76, Trent Ingram.
Here it is again.
Washington County likes to refer to his defense as the black shirt defense.
They come in this game, Jim, not having allowed any points in eight games this season, as you can see why that replay.
A loss of two makes it third and four for La Grange, there's the identity for the Washington County Golden.
Horns up top inside hand off to Patterson Collison across the 30 thoughts about the 37 yard line and that'll be good enough for a first down.
Excellent job of blocking up front by La Grange.
As Washington County brought their three linebackers very close to the line of scrimmage, they had about seven players in the box that time, but La Grange was able to find the seam over the right tackle and pick up a first down.
You saw the numbers on Patterson for the year.
Jackson, who was on the stop for Washington County.
But it's first and ten La Grange, they had it at the 38 yard line.
Good shot at that time at quarterback tie toss here.
Number 21, Jerry Hubbard huddled around the yard.
He's got an opening part of the 40 and they say he was out of bounds at his own 45 yard line.
Good call by the referee.
We'll see if he can look at it on the replay and give credit to Ricky Tucker.
Number 22.
His responsibility out of the backfield was coming up and throwing the block to spring to run it down the near sideline.
See if he could pick up number 22, Tucker, right in front of the lead block.
He's on the corner.
You can see the players for Washington County falling by the wayside.
And Hubbard barely stepped up, but he did it second and three for La Grange.
Couple of men in motion for the Rangers on offense to handle Patterson.
Patterson goes right side foot stop.
By the defense number 40.
William Jackson makes the stop.
From our vantage point, Jim looks like Patterson will come up a hair shy of the first down about a half yard.
You're going to look at it from ground level.
Patterson looking and trying to duck back inside excellent tackle to stop his forward progress.
He won't bring it up for a measurement.
We've had about five plays and William Jackson's been a part of three out of five.
Not bad.
Y'all.
Important third down call.
Third and.
One for the Greens at their own 48 yard line.
Here you see Tyron at quarterback and he calls his own number.
He has a first down great play by that time.
And tackled once again by William Jackson.
Thad Todd comes into this game running for 865 yards, nothing fancy, takes it behind his center and picks up the first.
Good call, an offense that more.
LA granted has what it's wants, jim right now into Washington County territory.
You might see them try to open it up from this spot on the field.
First attempt rangers at the golden horns.
48 yard line time takes the pitch hand handoff Patterson and he's going nowhere.
Great defensive stop by number 56 Big John Brown stands at 62 to 45 and he's just a junior Mark.
He's a huge one.
Washington County doing less a job on the front wall, occupying the surge of Lagrange and just making a stop.
Now, it's interesting to note the linebackers are still cheating.
Very close to the line of scrimmage.
If the Greens can get beyond that box, they might have some clear sailing.
And the officials are not sure if we have a timeout or not.
We have a second and 11 coming up.
I tell you what, two great defenses coming into this one.
Not Mark, though.
These are these teams are really fired up among these two teams.
They've had 14 shutouts in the year of 23.
That's incredible.
A lot of people think that defense wins championships.
We expect to see a lot of defense this afternoon.
They were trying to get the helmet of Scott Sparks adjusted on the field.
He got it straight back to action.
All right.
Here we go.
Second and 11 from the Washington County, 49 yard line.
Great shot of the offense from the end zone, Campbell.
Here's Todd at quarterback man in motion Tom drops back looks looks downfield now has to hurry right side and the.
Pass is incomplete intended for Demario Ford.
What's interesting to note about both quarterbacks, Jim, is they both pass for about 50% or thereabouts, but they don't put it up much.
The first team that takes the advantage and finds a weak spot in the secondary could be a team that jumps out ahead in this ballgame.
But as we talked about at the top, both teams very run heavy.
William Jackson at John Brown.
We're ready in case Demario Ford caught that ball near the sideline.
So it's third and 11, a big third down play now for Lagrange.
At the 49 of Washington County.
Man in motion, his fourth fake handoff to Patterson here's Todd rolling left fires downfield at the man and it's incomplete and Kevin for number.
Eight Demario Floyd good defensive play by Washington County they were all over Demario Ford as he headed down the left.
Sideline.
You may hear from later on this game.
Number nine, defensive back Julius Taylor for Washington County in coverage.
He also doubles up as a running back, but give him credit.
He has 14 tackles in the season.
He also doubles as a basketball player.
Ben Higgins back to punt for Lagrange.
He's averaging 39 yards a punt this season and here is his kick.
And it's a high kick and it dropped at the 24 and a great Lagrange bounce.
And it's down right about the 14 yard line for Washington County.
And that's where the Golden Hawks will take over first.
And ten mark.
Now is where it gets interesting.
Lagrange has three linebackers that all have more than 90 tackles for the season, something unheard of at any level.
Football here you see the quarterback coming out, Justin Burton and the seniors numbers for 2003.
A very impressive year for Justin House as usual our cameras here at the Georgia Dome Johnny on the spot every play.
Burton kick right side that's taking walls and balls is met by a herd of.
Grangers at the line of scrimmage.
And it goes nowhere.
Jim You know, I don't like to go out on a limb, but expect Washington County to try to run left against Lagrange, the strength of their linebackers is to the opposite side of the field.
There's Coach Rick Tomlin, joined as head coach of Washington County back in 1992, once state championships in.
94, 96 and 97.
Handoff left side.
This is Jeremy Brown and Brown excuse me.
Check that Stacey Walls.
No, it was brown.
It was walls.
Okay.
I'm going to get that right yet.
Mark.
Give credit to Washington County Botanical Wesley Woodard.
He's one of the three linebackers upfront.
He's number 16.
They did a good job of moving out Woodard and made significant yards on a running play.
Walz and Brown are two great backs for Washington County.
Good stop by Robert Johnson on the defense for Lagrange first and ten for the Golden.
Hawks at the 24, the green showing blitz and they're not coming handoff up the middle.
And we have a flag on the play.
That's Stacey Walls, the ball carrier for Washington County.
On the last play, Trey Blackman for Lagrange tried to get a running start from his linebacker position, had to reload it may get it up a defensive offside call against Lagrange as they were a little bit jumpy as take the other way.
So it's going against Washington County and it'll be a first and 15 now for the Golden Hawks.
It's interesting.
When I saw the tackle totals for the Greens, you have to give credit to their front line, the defensive linemen Kelly Morris, Harris, Corey Terrell and Robert Palmer.
Illegal procedure on the offense.
The penalty is declined.
Second down.
Danny Westbrook, your referee, and here are the rest of the officials.
The umpire is Jeff earlier Wood.
Then it's Brooks, Mickey Sitton, Jillian Scott and Mark Brooks.
The field judge.
So there you see the Atlanta Area Football Officials Association calling this one the triple semifinal from the Georgia Dome.
Oh, second and eight for Washington County.
And the screenplay is set up to Brown and Browns.
Stop immediately.
Good defensive play by number ten, Trey Blackman.
The junior and get used to hearing that name today because he is quite a defender full of great.
Coaches.
Talk about explosiveness.
Blackman gets to the point of attack and then wraps up.
Blackman has had quite a season for Lagrange.
He collected three fumbles against Hart County in round two of the playoffs, one resulting in the game winning touchdown for the Rangers time.
13, ten and 13 rolls left fires and it's incomplete.
Intended for number 23.
Chris Voss Good defense by Lagrange.
In the face of the quarterback, you'll see Travis Hart number two at the last moment come in and force that pressure the quarterback's trying to throw against his body ball was a little bit catchable.
Now we'll talk about the turf in just a minute.
This is could be considered a home game for both these teams playing on the field turf, which is manufactured by the street in Duluth, Georgia.
Well, good point.
Yeah, this is a totally different field than you go.
Receiver downfield.
On the offense.
The penalty is decline fourth down.
And so with just over 5 minutes to go in the first quarter, Washington County is going to have to punt it away.
Number nine Hollis Taylor will do the the punting and back deep for Lagrange is number eight.
Tomorrow for here's the kick it's a high end over end Ford fields it at the 46 foot across the 5045 for finally brought down at the 43 yard line.
Washington County good return by Demario Ford.
Let's talk about the turf for a second, Jim.
Unlike Astro turf and some of the artificial surfaces, this field field turf is known for its release ability.
Sometimes players will plan and they will tend to slip out almost like grass.
So what they'll have to do is be very careful of their plants on the field turf surface.
So La Grange has it first and ten at.
The 43 yard line that time your quarterback for the Rangers two men in motion one goes right as Patterson Terry Hubbard in.
Motion and now the inside handoff to Patterson.
And Patterson crosses over the 40 yard line to about the 39 of the Golden Hawks.
Justin Patterson only is listed at £178, but he benches 250.
That time did an excellent job of just ducking inside and picking up what he could between the tackles.
Good stop by Jackson and Ingram.
There's your head coach, Steve Pardue for La Grange.
What a record.
91 up and 25 down for the Grangers and Steve Pardue.
Back to on second and six hoofing to step jump fires right side has a man that's Demario Ford stop by walls.
For Washington County.
Demario Ford comes into this ballgame 24 receptions for 394 yards is the replay as he just takes a simple looking pass.
But the nice thing about his numbers, he has a 16.4 yard average per catch.
Coming up on 4 minutes to go in the first quarter, La Grange on the move at the Washington County 32 yard line.
Ty pitcher Demario Ford runs left side, too.
Ford gets down to the 25 yard line.
They stop by number ten.
Stacy Wall talking about that plant, give credit to the running back that time for getting inside the tackle of Chris boss number 23 right there and cuts it back up for an additional five or six yards as usual.
Mark Lassiter on top of the play.
Good call, Mark.
All right.
Here we go.
Here's Todd at the line of scrimmage, second and four now for the Rangers man in.
Motion and cover inside handoff it goes number 22 is Ricky Turner and Turner picks up about three yards Ricky a senior 581 99.
That may be a play that Lagrange fouls because of Turner's explosiveness.
Once he took the hand off, he got to full speed.
But after his second step, nothing fancy just gets up when he can enough for another first down.
So the Rangers on the move as we're counting down to 3 minutes left to go in the first quarter.
Good shot at.
That time tot handoff Patterson again crosses the 20 down the 15 yard line goes Patterson stopped by number 56.
John Brown.
We talked about the Lagrange ground game coming into this game with 2448 yards total.
They don't have the numbers that Washington County has.
But so far on this drive, very effective and into the red zone.
Good ball control, too, by the Rangers.
Dad brings up the Rangers to the line.
Of scrimmage and we have a whistle and we might have been offsides on Washington County.
Demetrius Tucker might have jumped off shot that number 71 you.
Can see Tucker smack himself in the helmet for jumping offside.
It seemed that the Lagrange offensive front made that shift in such a way to pull him offside.
Here's the call.
At a dead ball.
Foul encroachment on the defense.
Five yard penalty here.
First down.
So now instead of a first and ten for Lagrange, it's going to be first and five for the Rangers.
Now, if you Steve Perdue, this could be one of those gimme calls with a first and let's say first and ten at your ten yard line.
We have a timeout.
Washington County.
In the meantime, mark your calendar for Friday night, January 30th, for the return of Georgia's longest running high school sports and academics program prep sports.
Plus, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletic programs and much more.
That's prep sports plus returning on Friday, January 30th and 11 p.m. exclusively on GP TV.
We have a good time bringing you that show each and every year on GP TV this hour, 12th year mark doing the show and it's covering great high school student athletes like these guys we're seeing today.
Well, it's just a great day of football for anyone around the state of Georgia.
This can't be any other festival like this.
Ten games in two days.
Yeah, about 30 hours of football.
If you like football, this is the place to be.
Look for Demario, for number eight for Lagrange.
He's the.
Favorite target.
There you see the two state championships for Lagrange.
Of course, their last one coming a couple of years ago in the year 2000, one.
Push down for the Greens.
Here's that time.
The quarterback and the pitch it goes.
Nick's memorial fourth fourth has to turn another direction and he finally broke down.
We got a flag in the backfield as Ford was brought down by number 23.
Chris boss the greens head forward lined up wing right brought him back towards the quarterback and trying to get it towards the line of scrimmage.
His pitch to Ford as you can see nothing doing as Washington County had excellent penetration at the line of scrimmage.
And also a bit of offensive play by Andrew on Archer for Washington County officials still talking it over as to how they're going to call this one.
And here is your referee, Danny Westbrooks.
We have an illegal block in the back on the offense, ten yard penalty.
Repeat the down.
The thing I love about these games, Jim, is every now and then you're going to get cross players like Stacey Walls.
You could just list them as football players.
Don't give them a position.
Defense offense.
Walz has been on the field for the entire ballgame.
He's the key at the safety position.
He's number ten.
And how these guys prepare all year long is really key when it comes to endurance in these football games.
Fourth and 22 for the Greens.
Todd Inside Handoff.
Paterno fakes the hand off the pass and looks down the know how to move wide open Demario Ford touchdown He beats Stacey Walls in the end zone Credit the ball fake by Thad Todd Faking.
It twice at the line of scrimmage He did very casually going back and making the accurate throw to Ford who was about three yards open in the end zone.
A 22 yard touchdown pass from Todd to Ford.
Here it is again.
Watch that ball fake, just casual a walk in the park and here's a delivery Gave it a little bit of a hop at the end once he saw the completion.
You got to love high school ball.
By the time defensive back Stacey Walls realize it was a fake, it was too late and Ford was on the receiving end of the touchdown pass.
Looks like we're going to have a celebration.
Penalty against looking for foul.
Unsportsmanlike conduct on the offensive team.
The touchdown is good.
The penalty will be on the part.
I hope they didn't throw that against their Todd for the little hop after the completion.
But sometimes players just get so excited when they score, especially on that first score.
So Lagrange is penalized and they'll be forced to kick a field goal for the extra point.
Oh, Pat Higgins will do the honors from the 25 yard line will be a 35 yard extra point.
Higgins Longest kick on the year is 50.
Here's a snap.
The hole, the kick is up and the kick is good by Higgins.
So La Grange.
Takes a seven.
Nothing lead over Washington County with 147 to play.
The thing you got to like about that kick from Higgins was the sound.
Every now and then you hear kickers that have that deep thud when they hit the ball.
You can hear the contact when Higgins nailed the extra point from 35 yards out.
And here's a replay of the touchdown one more time.
What a fake.
By that time.
Todd with the ball making an excellent throw into the end zone to the wide open Ford who threw the ball against the stanchion at the end zone.
And I think that's what gave him the penalty at the end of that play.
And there you see the Ranger fans very happy about their offensive unit getting on the board.
First, there's the scoring drive for Lagrange.
Granger's six plays, 53 yards, did it just under 3 minutes time.
And of course, Ford on the receiving end of the 22 yard touchdown pass.
Now, it gets interesting.
Washington County having a run heavy offense will have to show the patience to stick with that running game and play from behind.
Oh, look at that shot at the memorial for.
And the Granger sideline and the Ranger fans here at the Georgia Dome.
A lot of football to be played yet this weekend.
We have seven more games left on tap for you here on TV over the next two days.
So it's going to be a lot of football.
If you love football, this is the place to be.
Steve Pardue feeling very good about his team since October 17th, the last seven games, La Grange His defense has really started to peak.
Jim.
They have thrown shutouts in all seven of those games.
Ben Higgins to kick it off for La Grange, back deep for Washington County.
There you see him, number ten, Stacey Walls.
And here's your kick off from Higgins.
And it's a good end over in Pittsfield by Walsh at the three Walsh goes to the ten 1520 Wolf 25, 30, 35, 40 yards could break it 50, 40 yard line.
Stacey Walsh is going to return this 97 yards for a touchdown.
Not only did Stacey Walsh have a 3.5 GPA, he's a 100 meter track champion and just demonstrated why on the last kickoff return, as once he saw open territory about his own 40 yard line, you could see him throw it into that extra gear and just cruise for the touchdown.
And the fans from Sanders ville are on their feet for their Washington County Golden Hawks.
And you bet, those boys on the sideline are awfully happy about that one.
You talk about Stacey Walls being the combination of strength and speed, the ability to break tackles in traffic and then just accelerate into the open field.
There you see Jamie Roundtree on to attempt the extra point.
To tie this game.
Roundtree the snap hold, the kick is up and it's good and we are tied at seven.
With 132 to go.
I had a feeling was going to get interesting.
We've got a ballgame at seven, seven and we're still in the first quarter.
What a difference 15 seconds makes.
Watch balls on the kick return.
Really doesn't open up right here.
Takes a few pieces of contact but here switches hands with the ball in midfield.
He puts it head back and he's opening up that track stride and he's buybuy baby.
He's probably not happy with this 97 yard run in 15 seconds, you know, being a track star.
But again he shows about three years on this runs it means he's picking his way finding takes the hit and now he opens up.
Nobody is going to catch him right here.
So Stacey walls of the golden horns ties it that quickly.
La Grange scored with 147, left Washington County with 132 left.
The only problem is he's got to keep his helmet on because once they go back on defense feedback and safety, yeah.
Grab some quick oxygen and head on back out.
That's a ball player.
Gets to the sideline after running out to kick all the way He can't even take his helmet off.
So Washington County will kick it off.
Jimmy Roundtree will kick it off and back deep to receive for the La Grange Granger.
Is number.
Eight tomorrow for there you see Higgins.
Check that.
Roundtree.
And there you see Dimaio fought back deep for the Rangers.
And here's your kick by Roundtree.
And over in kick.
And it goes out of bounds and they'll mark this one at the 26 yard line.
That's where the Rangers will take over first and ten.
Jim, you know, I'm not one for numbers, but Washington County comes to this game with a power rating of 105.11.
La Grange comes in with a power rating of 1 to 8.8 with a point difference of 3.69.
I don't know what that means.
Let's just say these two teams are pretty closely matched.
I would say so.
And the way these teams have outscored their opponents this year is just incredible.
A lot more on that later in the broadcast.
The procedure on the kicking team, kicking the ball out of bounds, being a five yard penalty and a free kick.
So we'll have the right kick since it didn't directly go out of bounds without touching a Lagrange player.
It's kind of funny.
Stacey Walls came out to play defense, goes back now to the sideline.
He finally gets a chance to take his helmet off on the sideline.
But as soon as this kick off is completed, number ten walls will be back on the field once again.
So here's Roundtree to tee it up once again for Washington County rather than kicking from the 40, it's now at the 35 because of the penalty.
And once again, back deep to receive from the grange is number eight Demario Ford and just like Stacey Walls Demario Ford has some speed.
I wouldn't rule out a back to back here.
What do you think Mark.
Would be fun.
Gabriel also returns.
Punts for Lagrange and here's your kick off.
Another hand over him kick short kick.
Field it by Ford at the 44 crosses the 25 to the 30 and Brock down at the 30 yard line pick.
Coverage by the Washington County Golden Hawks.
That was number two for the Golden Hawks.
Patrick Brantley on the stop.
So here comes Thad Todd on the offensive unit for the Lagrange.
Granger's with a 125 left here in the first quarter.
And there you see Todd's numbers on the day, two of three for 29 yards.
And of course, the touchdown pass.
Inside and off the coast.
Patterson crosses the 35 for the 40 hit.
Bring him down.
Finally, they bring him down about the.
43 yard line to Washington County.
Golden Hawks on the play, including number 40. Who else?
William Jackson.
The last linebacker in the area was Antonio Richardson from Washington County.
The Green's got exactly what it wanted, a push at the line of scrimmage and then got beyond that box.
Did we talk about Jim?
About four yards deep and into the secondary for Washington County.
And a first and ten for the Rangers.
They call it the 44 yard line.
And Tom calling the signals top handoff up the middle.
That's Ricky Turner and Turner takes it to midfield.
Let's give credit right now to the Lagrange offensive front that is still getting a pretty good push on Washington County's front for.
That check that it's Rickey Tucker, four for Lagrange.
I keep calling him Turner.
It's Rickey Tucker, number 22.
He's a senior stands at 581 99 for Lagrange.
So it's second down and five from the 50 tot handoff.
Patterson crosses midfield to the 4540 and finally brought down by.
Number 23.
Chris Bost, the senior.
Every now and then, Jim, you could see a team really pick up the personnel team at center on that last play.
Philip Bates got a nice seal block They get to the outside another first down.
And here it is again.
Nothing fancy, but they're able to get enough of a push on the front for Washington County.
If they can give their running backs enough space to maneuver, they're going to make some yardage.
And it looks like a timeout on the field.
Now it's the end of the corner.
That's it.
Lagrange and Washington County tied at seven.
When we come back, second quarter action from the Georgia Dome.
Welcome back to the Georgia Dome, the three eight semifinal between Washington County and Lagrange.
Phil Proctor down on the field level.
I'm joined here in the booth by Mark Larson.
I'm Jim Pinocchio.
It's been a wonderful game so far between Washington County and Lagrange.
A lot of action.
Two defensive powerhouses from the regular season going and doing battle under the big top down here in Atlanta, Georgia.
There's your total yards, Lagrange, 98 yards against Washington County.
Meantime, the Golden Hawks can only get ten against that tough Ranger defense.
Here we go.
First to ten for the Rangers and the Washington County 40 yard line as we begin the second quarter time handoff, Ricky Tucker and Tucker.
Fight for a couple of yards straight up the gun.
Stop by number 16, Antonio Richardson at the number and a number of Golden Hawks down below.
Let's go downstairs to Phil Proctor film.
Hey, Jim, I thought you would keep an eye on Trent Ingram number 76, who happens to be wearing Seth Watts number today in honor of his a big star.
And he's actually holding up his own right now.
He was in on that last tackle.
I talked to South early and asked him how he felt about Ingram's play.
He said, hey, he felt fine about it, so hey, let's keep an eye on him, see how well he does.
All right.
Phil, I also heard that Seth gave the team a pep talk before the game actually started.
So here's another.
Great fake by Todd as he rolls left top he just closed down downfield has the man and the pass is complete to number 16 Wesley Woodyard Great play from Todd.
To Woodyard.
John Brown for Washington County and penetration and a little bit of a force against the quarterback but just couldn't get there in time.
You watched number 56 right before the completion was made on the sideline.
And if you look very closely, you could see that spray of granulated rubber, which is the cushion for the field turf surface here at the Georgia Dome.
If you look very carefully when players are hit, you can see that spray.
That's the cushion that they love.
Hey.
Hey, hey.
Now, one of the officials on the sidelines knocked down on that play.
That's the second official today that's been knocked down.
I'll tell you what you know, for the fourth game, we might see them in pads.
Well, it's interesting.
I noticed the replay on that first touchdown in the previous game when you saw the referee in the end zone take a shot and now on the sideline, you've got to keep a heads up as well as the cameraman sometimes go a little bit close on the sideline.
They were trying to get people to back up off that last play.
So it looks like we got a little time out here as the officials are talking some things over with, just over 11 minutes to go here in the second quarter.
All right.
Here we go.
The Rangers come up to the line of scrimmage at the 25 yard.
Line of Washington County, first and ten high pitches.
Harrison Roy goes right.
Five tries to fall as.
Blockers can not break around the corner and Patterson is brought down by Antonio Richardson, number 16, and a couple of Golden Hawks near the.
Sideline.
Sometimes the players that don't make the tackle are as much to credit for play, breaking down Eddie Merrill, the linebacker for Washington County, did a good job of busting up the traffic.
Coming to the near sideline.
There you see Richardson's numbers on the year.
The senior had an incredible 23 for the Golden Hawks, a second down now and seven for the Rangers at the 23 yard line.
Ty Hand on Tucker Hill Fake hand off to Tucker Todd left and pitches left side and this one goes out of bounds for the play.
It's called Incomplete Pass.
From Todd to Terry.
So it'll be third down.
One of the few plays so far this afternoon where you could see Thad Todd.
So the panic just a bit coming down the near sideline looking for the pitch and then threw it in a bad spot.
Fortunately, it was thrown as a forward pass because any defender will know that their ball is thrown behind the plan as the quarterback gets a free ball.
So he'll be third and seven.
We'll call it the 22 yard line for the Rangers.
Todd Reese's back into the huddle after getting the play from head coach Steve Pardue.
Third and seven and in motion discovery tie inside handoff Patterson He stopped immediately by number 64.
Justin McKenzie Justin stands 510 to 40 and he's just a junior great play by Justin.
Excellent job by all of the linebackers on that side for Washington County on the pursuit also close that play Brandon he's got a shot in He's wearing number 41.
Ben Higgins is in to attempt the field goal he'll spot this one at the 31 will make it a 41 yard field goal his longest of the year.
It's 50 yards.
Here's Higgins.
The snap, the hole.
It's a fake run, right?
And an incomplete pass.
Thrown by that tie.
But we have a flag on the play.
You're probably going to get linemen downfield as the holder for the Greens took the high snap and instead of placing it down, decided to turn quarterback and try to go downfield with it.
And of course the quarterback being that.
Todd So yeah, it was rather natural for him and the officials are talking it over and Lagrange his defenses now or yeah defense is coming down the field so it looks like this one's going to go against the Rangers.
Yeah man eligible receivers downfield on the offense the penalty is decline for the B first down.
So a first and ten for Washington County.
They take over at their own 24 yard line 937 to go second quarter from the Georgia Dome.
Now, keep in mind, other than the big kickoff return, Washington County really hasn't been able to get any rhythm on offense.
You can expect them to see if they can get a few first downs and see if they keep tough running game on track.
Burden on the handoff and give this to number ten.
Stacey Walls and walls crosses over the 25 to about the 26 yard line for Washington County.
Let's just go ahead and call the green.
Just three linebackers, the three amigos, Travis Hart, Wesley Woodard and Troy.
Those are the three linebackers that all have 90 plus tackles for the season.
And those are the players that are the leaders of that defense.
The three Amigos.
All right.
So we have a second and seven now for Justin.
Burton and the Golden Hawks Curry on the handoff.
And that is Jeremy Brown.
The senior running back, picks up a couple.
Trey Blackman for the Grange was into the backfield, but due to a great block by Seth what's able to hold him off watch the injured player Sorry about that Jarvis Ingram, the player with the BLOCK.
If you've just joined us earlier today, the single-A game, Lincoln County actually won that one 2824 over Tryon.
And the double and then the rye you see it go Buford later on for your eight and a half minutes to go here.
In the second quarter.
And here's burden on the inside handoff and that.
Is Jeremy Brown.
Brown picks up a couple of yards for the Golden Hawks and he'll be first and ten.
Excuse me a second down.
Coming up for the Golden Hawks stop by John Scherrer, number nine and number 28, Langston.
First time all afternoon, Jim, we've seen Lagrange line up eight players at the line of scrimmage really trying to get penetration, but credit Washington County for picking up the yardage which gave them enough for the first out.
And now a timeout to be called by Washington County.
And I believe that's their first of three timeouts.
Take it here.
Our second of three timeouts.
Take it here in the first half by Washington County.
Great football game so far.
Mark Glasser.
Washington County.
Let's go to the fun fact page.
Over the last ten years, they are the most winning his team in Georgia, high school football.
And they've also sent 58 players to college with scholarships over the last 11 seasons.
What does that tell you?
Right.
That's incredible.
And it will.
We're talking hey, look, let's listen to it.
Let's just let's listen in here to the huddle here at Lagrange.
I can empower them.
That's right.
Big vortices.
Run them up and build a strong cover.
Two, let's go to work.
Here's a look at it.
It's real simple.
The coach gives all the instructions.
They come out of a play, hit somebody.
Oh, now, real symbols, of course.
Coach Tomlin with the Golden Hawks on the field.
That's what's so exciting about the high school football playoffs, being able to get in there and hear what they're saying throughout the ballgame.
I mean, that's really bringing the game home here on TV.
Well, I have.
To confess, I was watching the game at home on TV and the camera are doing excellent work today.
As usual.
Justin Burton, the quarterback on first and ten for the Golden Hawks fake handoff rolls right looks for Brown now decides to keep him gets a 39 a fumble on the play Looks like Brown might have picked it up for the Golden.
Hawks will kick it and it was Jeremy Brown recovering the fumble for Washington County.
Travis heart for the greens actually had to play diagnosed at the start he's wearing number two but watch him hesitate just a hair and the quarterback runs right past them fumbles the ball.
But fortunately Washington County maintains possession at heart.
Just needs to make up his mind.
Now a second and five.
And now we have our official time out.
And now they say, let's run.
The clock, let's get this thing going.
65 to 40 and the handoff up the middle.
That's Jeremy Brown again, the senior, and he might have picked up a yard on the play.
Justin Burden is doing an excellent job of carrying out his ball fakes.
Let's go downstairs to Phil Proctor.
Phil?
Hey, Jim.
You know Trey Blackmon on the play before last, he came from the weak side, ran all the way over and actually was involved with the fumble.
But the funny thing is, is that if you watch him run, you would not know that he had a cast on his leg all week long.
They just took it off yesterday.
He was over here warming up.
So if he doesn't have any problem with it, so.
Let's keep an eye on him.
But he's walking pretty well right now.
Thank you, Bill.
I know you're enjoying this battle in the trenches down there on field level here in his third and fourth.
And we have a whistle before this play even get started and a flag on the play.
And this one would probably go against the offense.
Here you see head coach Perdue on the sidelines and it's going to be a false start against Washington County.
Jim, another thing I noticed that both of these Dan Ball.
Foul balls start on the offense, five yard penalty repeat today on.
Both of the play clocks that the quarterbacks usually refer to that they can gaze right between the goalposts.
Nope.
Of those clocks are out at the Georgia Dome this afternoon, so it's been surprised that there hasn't been any delay of game penalties so far.
That's a good point.
39 at the 36 yard.
Line for birdie gross left in trouble now decides to keep it gets up to about the 34 yard line and that's it.
Yeah great stop on defense by number 17 for the Washington County Golden Hawks.
Excuse me.
For Lagrange.
Yes, here it is again.
Watch the replay and watch number 54, Harrison Walden trying to get a block downfield and just was not happy that he wasn't able to give his quarterback more space.
He takes it takes the shot there and now formation and.
Back to front is Julius Taylor for Washington County that deep is Demario Ford for the three and here's the play end over end kick fielded by Ford at the.
31 for Boston 35 to the 4040 554 could almost break this gets to about the.
47 yard line.
That's where Lagrange will take over first and 10/1 play.
And ahead a shout out it was Patrick Brantley for Washington County Brantley kind of with on the tackle and the return picked up an additional ten yards.
If you just joined us here on TV, you've missed some exciting football.
Earlier today, the single-A semifinal, Lincoln County comes from behind to beat Tri in 2824.
And then in the Double-A semifinal, the Indians beat the Indians.
Charlton County wins it over Vidalia 22 tonight.
First attack from the Grange at the 47.
There's a shot at that time.
The quarterback talk calling an audible at the line of scrimmage and the handoff goes to Patterson.
Patterson off the left tackle finds it could be gone 30, 25 and finally pushed out of bounds at the 21 yard line by number ten.
Stacey Walls Patterson A great run for three.
Justin Patterson Gets the glory, but the block on the corner was thrown by number 65.
Brandon Gates, if you can see it coming right at you, what's number 65 right there?
Get out and move his man and allow the space for the big run down the far sideline.
Here's a good angle of it right here.
Gets that hole and that's it.
He was gone.
Excellent job by the La Grange offensive line for providing that hole to the right side.
Justin Patterson out of the day.
There you see it.
12 carries for 78 yards, averaging over six yards.
A carry is just a good day.
Justin Patterson also doubles as a receiver.
He has eight receptions this season for 50 yards so they can use him as a receiver as he runs a four or 540.
There you see that tiger looking over to the sidelines as they're looking to bring in another offensive lineman on this first and ten play from the 21.
They finally get Russell Donaldson into the lineup.
Donaldson is six 2 to 85 now.
Todd looks over the defense.
First and ten from the 21.
And the handoff goes to Tucker.
That's Rickey Tucker, who picks up about three yards, gets to about the 17 yard line.
Once again, the Center for the Greens, Philip Bates gets a piece of his man just enough to allow that quick accelerate action, pick up three yards on first down.
You got you got to get that Dalby second and six now for the Rangers at the 17 yard line Todd pinched it Patterson.
Tries to turn the right corner and does and gets to about the ten yard line.
The stop by number 44, Eddie Merrell.
And as we saw in the first quarter, Jim lead block once again thrown by Rickey Tucker and about the 15 yard line.
Those are the players that don't get all the glory.
But Tucker is responsible for getting the block on the outside.
There you see the Rangers breaking out of the huddle and ready for this first and goal.
From the ten yard line to handoff, Patterson follows.
His left tackle up the middle and he gets down near the goal line.
Stopped right.
About the one yard line by Julius Taylor.
Center.
Philip Bates is only five 9 to 15, but right on the snap he gets down gets the chip block right up front that allows the running back to get right up the middle.
You don't have to overpower your man.
All you need is a nice little piece.
So a second and goal from the one yard line for the Grangers.
They're knocking at the door again with just under 4 minutes to go.
Here in the first half Todd quarterback sneak and he's in Touchdown right behind his £215 Finished great playcalling going by Head coach Steve Pardue and the.
Grangers take the lead.
Credit that entire series Jim to the offensive front line up La Grange it did an excellent job of coordinating their blocks, throwing blocks at just the right time.
And they get the six points.
And the folks from La Grange are on their feet again.
Ben Higgins is in to attempt the extra point.
Mark, stamp the hole.
The kick gets up and it's good.
Higgins connects again and it's 47 La Grange over Washington County.
Just to expand on that point, you don't have to blast people off the line of scrimmage.
But what you have to do is throw your blocks in such a way that they're timed with your running backs.
And La Grange, in that last series where they were able to throw some timing blocks and they score.
And there you see the replay of the quarterback sneak.
Good ground level action here.
Nothing fancy.
Just straight ahead, football.
See, that's what Phil Proctor gets excited about down there, you know, being on the sidelines and being able to see it right from that angle right there on the goal line.
I mean, this is what it's all about.
Off the field.
Before the game, he was right outside the locker room.
There you see the scoring drive for the Rangers, five plays, 53 yards, eight up, just under 2 minutes in a five yard.
Todd gets the quarterback sneak there.
You see him on the bench taking a breather.
I was trying to get a word with the coach just before the game.
Phil said.
I've already talked to him, so I just came up here.
Hey, don't don't let Phil fix you out.
Phil was ready to put the pads on himself, so the Grangers to kick off to Washington County.
Now, Stacey Walls is back deep for Washington County.
To kick it off for La Grange is Ben Higgins.
And look at the way they're lined up for this mark tight formation.
You don't know what they're going to do trying to throw off the coverage.
Now they have a heavy left formation showing signs of onside kick.
And it's a script kick and it goes for about the 27.
Fielded by number 19 for Washington County.
That's Josh Gorney and Gore.
He's brought down around the 47 yard line.
And that's where Washington County will take over first and ten.
Matt Whitehead for a shot at him right about the 30 yard line didn't wrap up on the tackle goes to the sideline picks up another 15 to 17 yards on the return.
There you see coach Rick Tomblin on the sideline to Washington County, 33 state championships since taking over the head coaching duties at Washington County in 1992.
It combined inside first and ten for Washington County and Stacey Walsh with a carry.
Talk about the track record of Rick Tomlin.
He's been to the playoffs 12 consecutive years.
There you see Stacey Walls.
We already found out Stacy's got a lot of speed.
There you see his numbers last week against Westminster, Tony.
Coming up.
Stacey runs at four for 40 that all players love to use as a benchmark on.
He's on second down it's the.
Handoff up the middle And this is Stacey Walls again.
And Stacey gets to the 40 yard line and the stop by Langston number 28 for Lagrange right there.
You see it just under 3 minutes to go till halftime.
Of course, we'll hear from both bands will be on the field.
Yet another team from each of the schools to join us here at the Georgia Dome.
We're getting to the point in the second quarter where Washington County gym has got to think a little bit about clock management.
They're at the 40 to 54 remaining before halftime as a run heavy team.
They've got to be conscious of when and how they can stop the clock.
So first and ten at the 40 yard line for Washington County, we'd like to even this thing up before getting.
Into the locker room off the walls.
Walls go through the 30 station walls to the 20 walls, 15 stops looks to cut the other way, and it's finally knocked out of bounds at the nine yard line.
The stop again is by.
Langston, number 28.
For Grave.
Well, the best way to stop the clock is to give it to Stacey Walls.
Let him get to the sideline all the way inside the ten.
As you mentioned, Wall switches hands very adroitly to the outside hand and gets out of bounds.
Big play by Stacey Walls gets Washington County a first and goal just inside.
The ten yard line.
Third handoff, no fake 19 off the walls.
Walls gets to about.
The seven yard line.
These quarterbacks are good on that fake.
Walls trying to pick his way as Lagrange actually had pretty good surge at the defensive front.
So Walls was trying to get anything he could on his own.
Picked up about two.
Coming up on 2 minutes left in the first half.
Here's a replay of walls taking it right up the gut.
Watch him try to pick his way.
He sees big number seven for Lagrange right in his sights.
Rico Cameron, who did a good job of diagnosing the play.
And there's a time out.
On the field with 210 left to go.
Washington County check that Lagrange has called a time out to take you here.
Earlier today, Charlton County had a big game.
Here's the two way semifinals.
Chunk County's Jeremy Privett.
Finds Tristan Bridges right there to put Chung County up 22 to 9.
And that's the way it ended.
The Indians have Trump County winning over Vidalia Indians 22 to 9 in the two eight semifinal played earlier today here at the Georgia Dome.
And, of course, Charlton County plays the winner of tomorrow's semifinal will be catered bulldogs for the Buford Wolves in both those teams coming into the dome at 13 and oh of course Buford looking for their 40.
Fourth straight win.
It looks like plenty of time on the clock, but having a running offense, you still have to.
Be conscious of when your plays are stopped inside the out of bounds barking.
The clock is running high.
Second and goal.
Justin Burton, the quarterback calling the singles under center burden and the handoff goes up the middle and that's Tony Richardson.
And Richardson, the senior stands at 62205 is brought down near the seven yard line.
So I'll be third in goal now for the golden horns.
Okay, we're inside of 2 minutes as you get a look at the last play.
Nothing fancy, just a simple dove over center.
The greens trying to get it spins up on defense clock now stopped as Washington County burns a timeout yeah.
Rick Tomblin wants to talk it over.
They want to make sure they punch this thing in before halftime.
Trouble is going to come onto the field and have it out with one of his players.
All right.
It's Tomblin talks to his players.
Tonight's game can also be viewed live on the TV Internet site at WW W dot GPB dot org.
Just follow the links to connect to the game.
All the games from the dome this weekend will be archived and available on the GPB website as well.
That's w w w dot GPB dot org.
And it's really interesting to be able to go home and watch this thing on the computer and, and see exactly what happened at the Georgia Dome.
Just, you know, couple of days later.
It's a great feature, the website.
I was using it last year to be able to pull it up and see all these games.
It really is a great feature.
Georgia Public Television is trying to be there for everybody in the state, offering them from television to Internet because of all the great supporters that we have in this state.
For Georgia public television timeouts remaining there you see Lagrange has two Washington County just burned.
Their last one third and goal for the Golden Hawks at the seven yard line Burton rolls right looks downfield fires has a man and it's incomplete.
Intended for number 20 Jeremy.
Brown he came out of the backfield we talk about the Lagrange linebackers Travis Hart he's the player with 91 tackles.
He runs a four or 540 and flashed that speed as he got in on the quarterback force and get thrown to the outside.
So it's going to be fourth and goal for the Golden Hawks.
A decision to be made now by Rick Tomlin.
Do they kick it or do they go for it on fourth down?
And now I see Jimmy Roundtree is in the game.
And so Coach Tomlin decides we're going to go for some short points here.
It's going to be a they're setting it up.
It looks like it's going to be a 24 yard field goal attempt by Jimmy Roundtree.
There you see Roundtree and here's the kick.
And he splits the uprights.
The kick is good.
And Washington county pulls to within four.
It's the Rangers 14 and the Golden Hawks ten with 128 to play.
We talked about the Three Amigos for Lagrange, those three linebackers give credit on that last drive to Travis Hart, getting the pressure on the quarterback and forcing Washington County to come away with nothing more than a field goal.
There you see Coach Tomblin on the sidelines.
Two great defenses combining for 14 shutouts in 23 under the big top of the three East semifinal.
Coach Tomlin looks like he's he could still put on the pads himself.
He's a weightlifter.
Yeah.
I could tell you right now that the the Golden Hawks have quite a program.
Coach Tomlin was I was talking to him earlier in the week.
And one of the things they do is they pick up right from Christmas.
I mean, as soon as Christmas happens, all the games are over.
They start a weight training program and that continues all the way until when they open up camp in late July.
And there you see what that all that weightlifting and training has done, Tom balanced teams, very successful in his 12 years at Washington County, 137 and 23.
There's a scoring drive for the Golden Hawks.
Six plays, 40 yards, 2 minutes, 43 seconds off the clock and, of course, Roundtree with a 24 yard field goal.
Roundtree to kick it off now for Washington County and back deep to receive four Lagrange is eight tomorrow for there he is the speedster the junior stands 510 158.
Washington County has an interesting kickoff formation as they have players doubled up one behind the other on the kickoff coverage team.
Roundtree to kick it off.
And he sends a short kick to the 15.
And it's fielded by one of the up men for Lagrange looks like.
Number two.
Number seven for Lagrange.
And that's Rico Cameron.
One of the toughest jobs any player can have is that of Wedge Buster at that time.
Number 40, Matt White for Lagrange, was the player responsible for getting down and busting that wedge up.
So first and ten for Lagrange at their own 34 yard.
Line and the handoff goes to.
Patterson.
Patterson takes it over the 35 to about the 36 yard line for the Rangers.
Let's expect Lagrange just run out the clock here.
They've got to be feeling very good about themselves with this 1410 lead going into the half.
Well, would have one minute to go now in the first half that tied your quarterback.
And the pitch to Patterson who looks to turn the left corner and.
Does and gets up to about the 44 yard line finally stopped by Julius Taylor, number nine for Washington County.
And once again, Ricky Tucker with the lead block on Antonio Richardson of Washington County.
And the Rangers just let that clock ticks, though.
Perhaps one more play to go here in the first half before both teams head to the locker room.
There's that.
Todd taking his time, coming to the line of scrimmage.
20 seconds to go.
First half man in motion.
It's Terry Hunter.
Handoff up the middle, Ricky Tucker.
And Tucker gets to about the 48 yard line.
10 seconds to go now.
It's the clock stop by the officials.
With as many key blocks as Ricky Tucker is thrown.
I'm just happy to see him get a carry going into the half.
So Grange does call a time out.
Maybe we'll see one long one and maybe a field goal attempt.
What do you think, Mark?
10 seconds.
No time to get get that flashy the trickery.
But the greens, they can just sit on it.
They're near midfield.
The last thing you want is to have a turnover now.
Ben Higgins longest kick of the year is 50 yards, so that's a possibility.
Let's listen in here now.
Fouls call time.
I've got to pick it out of bounds.
Don't call it.
Look, but if I catch it tonight Brown.
Call timeout that's the last.
You so there you see given the coach giving the instructions to the team on the sidelines.
Well, from the tone of that huddle, it sounds like Lagrange is going to take a shot at it.
A couple of different plays you can do.
I would imagine that they might try trips to one side.
That's a possibility.
Maybe they try a hook and ladder.
Amazing.
So many ways to try this with 10 seconds to go.
But it's always interesting when a team that's used to running tries a long pass play.
First and ten.
From the 48 tied fake handoff to Patterson.
He's in trouble.
Tom scrambles looks.
Downfield fires.
Has a man and complete to number 36 the Brandon Harris.
The senior makes the catch and gets out of bounds immediately down near the 32 yard line 3 seconds to go and Higgins is called in to attempt a long field goal.
So here we go.
What's the catch by the secret weapon?
The tight end to Brandon Harris right in the hands.
And he gets out of bounds with 2 seconds remaining in the half.
And a quick time out by Lagrange.
Higgins, I told you earlier, his longest of the year is 50 yards.
Meantime, here's the replay on that last one.
Watch the hands.
Harris goes up in coverage, snares it, and just tips out of bounds.
Great pass by that time.
Now.
In a key win.
That's the good news.
The bad news is the field goal attempt will come just and meet 40 yards to make it a 50 yard attempt.
And as we mentioned, Higgins has hit a 50 earlier this year.
Now, what we want to listen for, Jim, is thud.
We heard that sound in the first quarter.
Let's see if we get that same sound from Higgins on this long field goal to him.
He's there.
You see Higgins in a 50 yard attempt by Ben Higgins.
Here's the kick.
Sounds like we had it.
And the kick is off that.
It's good.
Oh, baby.
Ben Higgins hit from 50 yards out and look range as time runs out Takes a 17 to 10 lead Ben Higgins gets a sound He says Knew I had it all along.
Let's go to the locker room.
Boy, oh, boy.
I tell you what.
What a kick.
All right, let's go downstairs and Phil Proctor.
Phil All right, Coach You got a.
17, ten lead bullet points and you score in the past two.
Games.
Yeah, we seem to get it going offensively.
Might we need to get an indoor facility down the Grange?
But I like the way we're playing right now defensively, we came out the big return.
We don't like do that in special teams, but we came back and got three right there and we just got to keep tackling.
They're a good football team we know coming in and we got to go have to go.
Now to fit the field goals that the longest of the year.
I believe so we believe in the kid.
He's really struggled the last few games.
He's missed three last week, but we never lost confidence.
The kids never lost confidence in him.
So he may be big, but we've got a lot of.
Football left, like, okay, good luck.
Thank you.
All right.
You're back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Phil.
Halftime here at the Georgia Dome.
We'll take a timeout.
La Grange leads Washington County at the half 17 seven halftime festivities coming your way next.
Welcome back to the Georgia Dome halftime.
La Grange leads it over Washington County, 17 to 10, and yet another team has showed up from Sanders Field.
Georgia Hits, the Washington County High School Golden Horn Marching Band in the direction of John Hillsman.
The performance title is What I Get.
For Love to They put up one, two, three, push and one, three, four.
Yeah, the golden horns marching.
Band from Washington County.
And let's go downstairs to fuck yourself.
All right, Timmy, I'm here with Jon Hill.
Really?
Mystery League and Johnny Football.
Tell me about the hat.
Well, the head started on that first cold playoff game and we of course, we won all three of them.
And it was just given I was going to have to wear his hat today.
A couple of football players told me I was going to wear it is hard to do and their bigger deal.
Okay don't still bit about the program we did so.
Well.
The program you just saw was based on music from A Chorus Line, you know, by Marvin Hamlisch.
And it's a show that we took and put together and course it was kind of a creative effort between Tori and myself and everybody else on the staff, and we put it together and it worked really well for us this year.
Okay.
And Tory, tell me about the choreography.
We've got two sets of girls, we've got a dance line and a color guard, but they all sort of do everything.
We we took some Broadway style movement.
We got a lot of kicking and, a lot of fast action, a lot of really difficult moves that they've done, but they've done a wonderful job learning it.
Okay.
Well, we definitely appreciate it.
And Jim, we're going back to you right now.
Thank you.
All right, Phil, good job downstairs.
We'll take a time out, come back for the marching Grangers there on deck as we continue our halftime festivities of the three AA semifinal.
Here you see the score at La Grange, leads at 1710.
Welcome back to the Georgia Dome.
There you see halftime scored.
La Grange leads Washington County 17 to 10, this triple-A semifinal.
Now the marching marching band under the direction of Miss Laurie Gettinger.
Let's take a listen.
The Marching Rangers, let's go downstairs and fill out your film.
All right.
I'm here with Laurie Giddens there.
Laurie, what is up with The Temptations?
Tell me about it.
Well, we just thought we'd do a little opening, a little new, and we wanted to get the crowd into it.
Know, this is your first year?
Yes, my first year in Georgia.
Okay.
When you come from.
Greenville, South Carolina, 17.
Years.
Okay.
What plans do you have with the band?
I in Greenville, I bought my ideas with you.
Oh, I want to do Macy's Parade and Rose Bowl, and I'd love to have about 250 someday program.
Well, congratulations.
You guys sound great.
We appreciate it.
All right, Jim, back to you.
Felt you had to get that question in about South Carolina.
No doubt about it.
Okay.
At halftime, second half kickoff coming up from the Georgia Dome, La Grange leads Washington County 17 to 10.
I'll tell you what, it's been quite a football game.
You can look at the La Grange supporters on the sidelines feeling very good about themselves up by the seven points.
It's interesting going into the third quarter to meet both these teams, come in with a lot of ego.
All right.
Here's the first touchdown of the game that had a great fake and then hits to Mario Ford.
What's that play on the play?
Fake.
Here's a kick return.
All right.
Stacey Walls on a 97 yard kickoff return.
Great play here.
About three years, second, third and then final gear where he puts that track.
Speed into effect.
And wall scores on that 97 yard kickoff, pretending that time calls his own.
Number over center.
Nothing fancy.
The offensive line for the green.
Just trying to show it's a fake.
Then it's Jimmy Roundtree connecting on a 24 yard field goal.
It was 47.
And then it's Higgins just before the end of the half connecting on a 50 yard field goal.
And La Grange has a 1710 lead over Washington County.
Here are your first half numbers.
Most impressive numbers.
Look at the dominance and total yards for the Greens 201 to 71, the rushing yardage, the green, not a team known to have the gaudy numbers as Washington County, but they're dominating so far in the first half.
I ask you downstairs, Mr. South Carolina, feel pressure.
Coach.
You got had 17 points scored on your defense you got to make adjustments in the second half.
What do you do?
Well, we got to start playing better defense.
Obviously, we've got to come off blocks and tackle them.
Right now.
We look a little lethargic, obviously, on defense.
They've got a good game plan.
Nothing we didn't expect.
We just got to go play.
We just got to come off box and play that simple.
All right, Coach, good luck in the second half.
Thank you very much.
Back to you, Jim.
Rick Tomblin in Washington County, second half coming up after these messages from TV.
Welcome back to the Georgia Dome, Washington County and the Grays, the three eight football semifinal from the Dome.
And you can see the fans are on their feet ready.
For the second half between the Grangers and the Golden Hawks.
We talked about these teams being so evenly matched off the top.
Jim There's another factor play also the ego.
As you get deeper into playoffs, the teams get better and better.
So the team that can sometimes have the stronger resolve, the team to play through its mistakes is a team that will come out on top.
We talked about both teams are big into weight lifting and conditioning and how important that is when it to a second half game like this one.
I mean for instance Washington County I mean, they've given up 17 points to La Grange.
They haven't given up this many points since October ten against Laney.
And that's precisely why I talk about ego, because it's not the physical matchup.
It's now has the greens getting into their heads, being able to score that many points on this very dominant team.
Washington County may have to adjust to say, okay, we're in a dogfight now.
We've got to really step it up in the second half and take it up another notch.
What's amazing about Washington County is they've outscored their opponents 53 to 47 in the regular season alone.
I mean, that's 500 points and they scored 90 over 91%.
But as I say, it's the playoffs.
You can throw all the numbers out the window because now you've got to play 24 minutes of football in the second half.
All right.
Well, Grange is going to kick it off to Washington County and Ben Higgins will do the honors for La Grange.
And Back Deep for Washington County.
Should be number Stacy Wall, judging by that 50 yard field goal, let's go ahead and call Big Ben Higgins and.
Higgins hit a script.
It gets down to about the 20 yard line field is my number 20.
Five of Washington County and whoa, what a hit right there by the La Grange Defense.
The first player.
Downfield was Trey Blackman, one of the linebackers second man in on the tackle, Wesley Woodard, the second linebacker.
So the Golden Hawks will take over first and ten from their own 20 yard line.
And what do you think of that?
Three state championships, of course, the last one being won by in 1997 by the Golden Hawks.
That is what Coach Tomlin been able.
To do since getting there.
If you watch the counter now, fumble on the first play in the second half and it looks like La Grange has recovered, there was that contact, seemed to be a clean handoff.
The ball was just dropped at about.
The 20 yard line.
La Grange gets an early Christmas gift.
And just like game of today, a miscue on the first play from scrimmage in the second half.
That was number ten.
Stacey Walls trying to put the ball away, seemed to have it on his hip and as he was getting to the line of scrimmage, just seemed to slip out of his hands.
And now La Grange on offense and Travis Hart recovered.
The ball for La Grange.
Here's the handoff and it's Patterson and he's got nowhere to go.
In fact, he stopped in the backfield.
One yard loss.
Good play on defense by the Golden Hawks.
Now number 44, Eddie Merrill was in on the play as was number 76.
Trent Ingram and of course, Ingram playing for South Watch today.
I forgot one other factor other than special teams, when teams are so evenly matched that X factor of turnovers.
There you see Patterson in the huddle for La Grange.
So it's second down and we'll call ten for the Rangers.
And Tom keeps the ball and brings it.
Runs it inside the 20 go about the 18 yard line pick up with to stop by number 23 bosh of Washington County.
As we saw in the first half, Thad Todd does an excellent job of executing the ball, make watch how he makes the ball fake and then almost casually goes the other way, looking for his runner to be the deceptive back.
Tyree Burnette on the day three carries for nine yards and a touchdown, only a junior 1710 Lagrange over Washington County time out on the field as some coaches coaches want talk it over their head coach Steve Pardue for La Grange.
Got that sideline shot of oh I should say field level shot up there.
Todd wasn't even sweating.

GPB Don't worry, it's totally secure, simple to use and takes just 2 minutes and thank you for your support of Georgia Public Broadcasting here on TV.
I even figured out how to use that stuff.
Mark So I mean, you know, take a digital guy like me, I think anybody can do it here.
You See Coach Tomlin on the sidelines for Washington County.
A little concerned as his defense is pinned back in their own area.
The field is 18 yard line.
Here he is from the Grange.
Ty looks up top in the corner, has a man and it's incomplete.
Intended for number eight Demario Ford good defense by number ten Stacey Walls and Euless Taylor number nine.
That's a great matchup for us and Bates as it trying to go to the deep fade pattern ball was thrown just a little bit shy, but it was interesting to watch the receiver try to come back and make the catch actually over the defender.
Fourth and seven now for the Grange.
And it's going to be a field goal attempt from Higgins.
It'll be a 35 yard field goal attempt from Ben Higgins.
He hit a 50 yard earlier.
Here's the kick by Higgins.
It's up and it is no good.
Higgins pulled it, left, seemed to.
Get a decent placement, just too short for his range.
So Higgins misses and the score remains.
1710 Lagrange.
And Washington County, as we can look at the replay, really gets a big break coming off that early turnover.
The ball just seemed to fade slide right and despite the fumble Washington county goes back into business right about the point where they return to kick off.
All right.
So he sliced.
It left to the left.
What can I have?
What can I say?
Right.
Stacey was on the carry for Washington County and he gets up to about the 20.
Nine yard line, gets carried by wall stop by number six.
Kelly Reed.
Well, you know, Jim, just like on a golf swing, sometimes you try to start it right and hoping that it will come back left that time, it just seems to just fade.
That analogy is all too familiar with me.
Second down to Washington County, will got second and one.
And here's the handoff.
And Stacey Walsh again, Walsh has the first down and more.
As it crosses over the 40 yard line.
Stacey Walls with a big run and yeah, that's right.
It's a first down for Washington County.
Exactly what Washington County wants on this, a first down to get this offense in gear.
Walsh just picking his way.
Watch out it looks and uses his blockers any running back it's not just the power but having the vision to his way there.
Stacey's numbers on the day nice average 11 carries for 83 yards Stacey walls.
Of Washington County very hands off again it's Jeremy Brown and Brown gets.
Over the 40 yard line maybe a pickup of about a yard for Jeremy Brown.
Player you may hear a little bit more from in the second half last week he scored on the first play against South Effingham on an 80 yard touchdown run.
We see Brown in that three back in alignment.
That's something we didn't see in the first half.
From Washington County.
Good defensive play by Ronnie Merritt.
And number nine, John Scherer was also there on the play Justin Burden on a second and.
Nine for the Golden Hawks at their own 41 yard line handoff Stacey wow looks to break a tackle does.
Can't break the second one no stop at the 41 yard line by number two Travis heart good play by Travis.
First play in the backfield for Lagrange was number 59 Ronnie Merritt He was being blocked in the backfield See if we get a quick look at him he gets into the backfield, doesn't make the tackle right here but give credit to the strategy of Lagrange going to an eight man in the box lineup.
Once again early in the second half.
Travis hard season numbers, what a year Travis has had.
But Justin Burton fakes the handoff, play action looks downfield has a man and that's Jeremy Brown Brown breaks tackle after tackle gets across midfield.
Jeremy Brown with the big play.
For golden horn and coaches hate that when players get in position to make a tackle and simply do not wrap up.
There were no fewer than four players from the Greens that got to the point of attack.
The first right about the 40 yard line, but count how many players get a shot and simply do not wrap up.
There's one now, Hickam three more.
Watch this one is a second, 1 to 3.
And finally, the fourth man comes in to make the tackle, and.
That's number nine.
John Cherry Ronnie Merritt was also there on the play handoff up the middle.
Stacey Wells Wells gets inside to about the 42 yard line for Washington County.
On 44 Washington County, Willie Brown is coming up limping, going to the sideline off that last play.
They're going to get a quick substitution in.
Just when they get some rhythm on offense, they get a quick danger.
It looks like he's favoring that right leg as he hobbles to the bench.
Defensive tackle number 13, Corey Terrell made the stop on station was balls placed at the 40.
Three yard line seven and a half minutes to go second and six Justin Burton at quarterback Three men in the back field handoff Stacey walls walls crosses over the 40 yard line.
Gets about the 39 yard line stopped by a number of Granger's at the 39 yard line.
Washington County was able to get an excellent block on Brandon Kelly before he could get a shot in.
Kelly is, the player that we felt off the top him that Washington County would have to account for because he's one of the dominant players on the Lagrange defense.
He listen, he's listed at six 1 to 16, but he has 114 tackles coming into the game.
Ricky Tucker on the stop on that last play there at the 39 yard line, third and two handoff up the middle wall, first down and more just past the 25.
And he's finally knocked out of bounds at about.
The 23 yard line.
Stacey almost broke another one.
This three back in alignment proved to be very effective for Washington County.
They're up backs are throwing excellent blocks.
Look at the coverage upfront.
That first block thrown by number 41.
Brandon Hayes was the key to that last winning play.
So another first down for Washington County.
They are now at the Lagrange 23 yard line.
Be Justin Vernon.
The quarterback three backs in the backfield handoff.
Jeremy Brown crosses over the 20 yard line.
And is brought down by about half the defense of Lagrange.
Now you talk about punishment in pain.
Washington County is doing exactly what they want, 6 minutes and 20 seconds and counting in the second half.
And they've had possession of the ball all but one series.
So that offensive line is getting a chance to assert itself.
Wesley Woodyard makes the defensive tackle and the ball's placed just inside the 20 yard line.
He's shooting the clock up right here on this drive.
Eight plays, 60 yards, if even up 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
So far on the drive hits back, Stacey Walls runs left side.
Stacy brought down about the 17 yard line check that.
That was Tony Richardson on the carry and Richardson's brought down they got some horses in that backfield Brown, Richardson and Barnett.
Speaking of horses, Corey Jarell got a great block it on Jeremy Brown, who has five yards in the backfield and allowed the run to the outside.
Falls on the 17 yard line coming up on 520 to play in the third quarter.
And get a sense.
That the momentum ever so slightly is starting to shift towards the side of Washington County.
I get the feeling it's third and four.
Burton fakes the handoff, play action rolls right in trouble looks downfield fires has a man it's incomplete intended for number 11 and that's Antoine.
Archer.
Braxton Kelly for Lagrange was 15 yards into the backfield trying to get a shot in on the quarterback didn't make the tackle but actually forced throw to the outside so give credit to Kelly let's give him a defensive assist.
Jamie round tres in to attempt a three point field goal for Washington County there's Rick Tomberlin calling some signals on the sideline on a fourth and four for the golden horn.
And this one's going to be a 34 yard field goal.
Attempt by Roundtree from a severe angle.
They look where it's placed on that left pass mark.
There you see Jameis already hit a 24 yarder today.
Here's it.
To hold the snap, the pick up, and it's good.
No, no, it's no good.
No good.
Just left of the goalpost with a tough.
Angle kick from you.
Couldn't get it any closer to the near sideline and just didn't have the angle.
So after a tremendous time consuming drive, Washington County comes away with a donut.
Here is the angle that will tell the story for sure.
Here it is.
It's it's up.
And it's definitely left of the goalpost.
Hey, guys, go get up.
Tough angle, as you said, Mark, there's Coach Tomblin on the sidelines.
So it's first and ten for Lagrange.
At the 20 yard line, the handoff to Patterson.
Patterson goes straight up the gut and crosses over the 30 yard line, has another first down for the Rangers.
It's always interesting to see how a defense plays after its offense.
You come away with no points and then Lagrange on its first play picks up a first down.
The defense might have been feeling that the offense should come away with at least three.
And Stacey was made the tackle.
On Patterson first and ten at the 32 yard line pat time at quarterback man in motion it covered handoff up the middle.
And that's Ricky Tucker and Tucker maybe picks up a couple on that play.
Now, I don't mean to be a bad guy, but if I'm head coach Steve Pardue of Lagrange, I run right at Chris Boss of Washington County, who seems to be limping around.
He's wearing number 23 on the last play.
He could barely get back to the huddle.
You could see him limping just a bit.
Coaches need to be aware of players that are struggling to stay in their run, to play right at them.
Third quarter is going by quickly under 4 minutes to go.
Todd from the 32 pitches right side Patterson looks to top the corner does crosses over 4045 yard line to the 46.
And Patterson's finally brought down by number 44 Eddie Merrill.
Lagrange has got to get Boss out of there.
On the last play, he could barely jog to the point of attack.
Here's the replay from ground level.
Nice cutback inside the block, covers up with both hands and then extends to get the extra power on the cut.
There you Patterson's numbers on the day nice numbers indeed 19 carries for a buck 25.
There you see coach Pardue on the sidelines as the clock continues to run from the 46/1 and ten.
Tucker follows his left tackle and picks up about three yards.
You always like to get a look at the body language.
Going back to the huddle.
Robert Johnson made the stop for Washington County as Ricky Tucker heads to the sideline to take a breather.
La Grange is starting to bounce around once again on offense.
On the other side of the ball, Washington County is starting to drag ever so slightly, not a lot, barely perceptible.
But you can see the defense is just a step slow.
Now a second and seven from the 49 yard line Todd handoff Patterson.
And he stops immediately by Eddie Merrill number 40.
Four okay I take it all back Merrill did an excellent job.
He sure did.
24 doing it just as he draw it up in the linebacker book closes.
And you've got to love linebackers with those big pads behind the neck.
Watch number 44 textbook low knifing in for the hit.
Merrill Rhett midfield third.
And six there you see the total yards this quarter Washington County with the lead as far as yardage put Lagrange ahead on the scoreboard.
And tight horn and all the ball off the line for.
La Grange.
And now too much time, it looks like, used up by Lagrange.
And so this one's going to go against the Rangers.
It's got to be tough without a play clock down there.
La Grange, with an extra long snap count at the line of scrimmage.
You can't help but think quarterback Mark Todd.
Delay a game and the offense five yard penalty repeat to that.
Can help I think he was trying to perhaps change the play at the line of scrimmage just took a little bit too much time.
Yeah those are the chances you take when you're calling an the ball at the line of scrimmage.
You got to get it done quickly.
2 minutes to go Todd on the pitch that's Terry Hubbard.
He tries to cut left side.
And finally moves ahead to about the 50 yard line stock by number ten, Stacey Walls.
And again, number 44, Eddie Merrill.
Merrill is everywhere this quarter.
Morris Harris got a nice little chip block that time on Chris Boss the play we talked about playing injured excellent tackle on the far side and we'll bring up a fourth down call for Lagrange right at midfield.
And a fourth and six so they'll put it away there you see Ben Higgins, your punter and back deep for Washington County on the receiving end to get this one to Stacey Walls.
And he's just going to let this one bounce and it bounces a great kick for Lagrange.
It goes out right about the Washington County 11 yard line.
That's where the Golden Horseshoe take over first and ten.
What it lacked in artistry, it made up for ineffectiveness as he got about four extra hops all the way inside the 15 yard line.
Nice.

Stacey Quarles on the handoff and is actually throwing for a loss.
Good play on defense by Wesley Woodyard.
Again.
Wesley Woodard benches £250.
It's not a lot.
So you can pick off £270.
He showed the strength by grabbing the jersey and just ripping the man down.
There it is again.
That's the hand strength right here.
I got you.
There's no letting go.
Justin Burton, the quarterback for Washington County.
Back up on their own ten yard line handoff.
Stacey Walls crosses over the ten, gets to about the.
15 yard line stop by number 59.
Ronnie Merritt for LA Great Ball.
Came out at the end of that play.
You could see two players from Lagrange just dove into that point on the field, right at the 15 yard line.
They're getting a sense of trying to outhit Washington County right now, clock.
Running down, third quarter, 10 seconds.
This could be the last.
Play of the third quarter Burton rolls, right?
Looks for a receiver downfield now.
Fires almost intercepted by number seven.
Rico Cameron, that could have been big trouble for Washington County.
We will take a break.
Three quarters in the books, the hits just keep on coming.
Look, range leak Washington County 1710 back for the fourth quarter after this.
Welcome back to the Georgia Dome.
And we are ready for the fourth quarter between Lagrange and Washington County.
The Rangers lead at 1710 over the Golden Hawks, a great defensive battle between two defensive powerhouses.
As you see Rick Tomlin on the sidelines, Phil Proctor, Mark Lassiter and Jim do off field to call the final 12 minutes here on TV.
And here's the punt by Julius Taylor.
Of Washington County back here.
Mr. Demario Ford and Ford will field field this one on his own, 49 point crosses over the 40 watch.
Get down to the 34.
Good break.
This will know he's finally brought down and about the 26 yard line good return by Demario Ford stop by number.
Two Patrick Brantley.
Tomorrow Ford did the.
Intelligent and the courageous thing using his speed to get right to the middle of the field, not trying to get fancy and dance around.
He saw a slice of daylight.
He took it and used it all the way down to the 26 yard line.
So Ford, with a 25 yard return to the 26 of Washington County, will be first ten for the Rangers.
Nice spot on.
First down, just put it up.
That target quarterback in motion Patterson.
He gets the toss sweep goes left side crosses the 20 to 15.
Patterson almost breaks loose, gets down of tackles at the 12 yard line by number 23.
Chris Voss Blocked, thrown on the corner once again.
Ross Donaldson 6 to 25, gets downfield outside.
See if you can find number 70 in the traffic on near sideline throwing that that blocked downfield you can see him on the corner of your screen.
And a good run by Patterson there you see him Justin Patterson ball's on the Washington County 12 pitch to Patterson he goes the other way.
Patterson tries to get to about the ten yard line and is stopped by number 19 of the Washington County Golden Hawks defense.
And that is Josh Gordy.
And leading the play was my MVP for La Green so far.
Number 22, Rickey Tucker trying to get a block on the corner as La Grange is right at the ten yard line.
A lot of substitutions I'm noticing, too, Mark Alexander, as we go further into this game, just to keep everybody fresh for those final minutes of this big.
Semifinal game, Pat tied your quarterback for La Grange.
If you're just joining us, three scoop drop by five looks in the end zone incomplete to Demario Ford.
And I'll tell you what, that defender, Julius Taylor was right there step by step with Demario Ford.
All the little Greens coaches on the near sideline will go into their back pockets trying to get a little contact.
As you can see, the ball coming down at the middle of the end zone.
But as it stands, the Greens will come up with a huge third down call.
Here's the head coach, Steve Pardue of La Grange.
Third and eight for the greens.
They can get a first down at the two yard line.
Patterson in motion gets the handoff head straight up the middle and gets down to about the four yard line.
The stop again by number ten.
Stacy Walls.
You have to credit the play calling of head coach Steve Pardue really showing a lot of variety, probing the inside the line of scrimmage coming off of two plays to the outside what's the inside handoff cutback and enough to get almost into the endzone.
10 minutes to go coming up in the fourth quarter.
1710 La Grange.
The ball on the four yard line was Smith County, a 21 yard field goal attempt by Ben Higgins.
And Ben's pick is up and he splits the uprights.
And just like that.
La Grange jumps out to a ten point lead over Washington County.
The way La Grange has been playing defense that last field goal could be a significant difference in this ballgame, as we are at the 945 mark in the fourth quarter.
And you better believe Big Blue is on the go today.
There you see the.
The band on in the stands, making a lot of noise.
They're rooting for the Rangers.
But here's the thing about it, Jim.
You subtract the 93 yard kickoff return by Washington County, you have to credit the Grange for really slowing down the running game of the Golden Hawks so far this afternoon.
Big crowd on hand here at.
The Georgia Dome.
And we have football.
We have football.
We have more football for you.
On TV all day.
And we have the foray coming up after this.
And then the five eight later tonight.
We'll be here till about well, I don't want to mention the hour.
We'll here till, but I bet you will be seven breakfast when it's over.
If you love high school football, you live in the state of Georgia.
All you have to do is get one of those big long sandwiches and get a TV tray.
Just sit out.
All right, let's go downstairs.
Phil Proctor.
Hey, Jim.
Early in the game, I talked to Chef Watson.
Ask him, you know, I know the fact he can't play the game must bother him.
He said.
Yeah, I said, So what are you going to do?
He goes, I'm just going to cheer my team on doing that third period.
That's all he was doing.
He was just motivating his team, just firing people up.
I said, Hey, can you guys come back and win?
He says, Definitely so.
I believe it.
Back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Bill.
There you see Seth on the sidelines a moment ago wearing big number 76.
That's his number.
Uniform he wears on a regular basis.
Of course, Trent Ingram wearing that for him.
On this in this game.
Josh Gaudy on the return for Washington County.
Lagrange, refusing to kick away to Stacey Walls after the huge return in the first half.
They've been scrubbing every kick attempt since then.
And I don't blame Coach Pardew, that's for sure.
So it's a first in ten.
Washington County at the 41 yard line and the handoff to Stacey Walls.
And he looks to cut love first down the break.
Tackles gets up to about the 43 yard line pick up of 12 of second and eight.
If you look at the updated graphics on your screen, keep a right eye on the clock's ticking in the upper corners you can look at the replay wall is trying to pick his way but Lagrange with excellent pursuit it's never too early to start thinking clock management.
Second and eight from the 43 handoff Stacey Wall straight up the gut and Stacey gets into Lagrange territory right across the 45 yard there.
Mark this one at the 44 yard line, a big run by wall stop by Wesley Woodyard.
And what Washington County wants to do, Jim, is continue to pick up first downs because as they pick up that first down the clock will start to move the chains downfield.
So we're stopped now with 857 in this ballgame.
Here's Stacey Walls.
Numbers on the day 20 carries on 127 yards for the senior.
What a day.
He's had.
And a 97 yard kickoff return to boot.
This is some of the Washington County cheerleaders rooting for their team.
I'll be right here just.
Discussing something on the field with quarterback Justin Vernon.
Stand by.
Seems like they're trying to get the placement of the ball straight as the team's on the far sideline.
Haven't moved yet.
So there may be some discussion as you're talking to the Washington offense.
I think it might be an illegal substitution by the greens.
Look, check this out.
A substitution violation on the defense, the penalties decline.
First down.
Danny Westbrooks let you know he's the referee for today's game.
Coach Pardue on the sidelines and the Golden Hawks come up to the line of scrimmage first.
And ten at the 44 handoff.
Stacey laughs crosses over the 40 to about the 38 yard line.
Pick, up about six for Stacey walls.
Stacey just keeps on running those yards, MARK.
Stacey seems to run out of gas just a bit and slightly loose his footing as he makes the cut to the outside.
No one really gets a clean shot on.
Wasn't good.
Go out and then the right foot can't get the second play.
To back in the backfield.
Second once wall handoff is to walls and he gets thrown for a loss in the backfield.
We talked about running backs or any player trying to make a short cut.
Cutting on field turf is not the same as cutting on astroturf, which really sticks field turf gives because of its surface.
So Robert Rahming, number 35, one of the key guys on that stop, along with Corey Terrell, number 13 and number ten.
Trey Blackman calls it the 41 yard line.
Justin Burton On third and seven, Burton drops back to pass in trouble touchdown Big screen pass Stacey walls Walls get to 30 Ball spin move inside the 35 fullback the 34 yard line.
Finally brought down by number 16 Wesley Woodyard.
Walls spins with two players.
Travis Hart also tried to get a shot on number two for the Greens, but he picks up an apparent first, down all the extra effort.
Watch him take that shot high and then continue downfield.
Nothing in the middle of the field in terms of coverage for the Greens as all their linebackers hit drop way back down field.
It took a long time for that screen to set up, but it was successful to wall there down at the 34 yard line and now a first and ten for.
The for the Washington County Falcon Hawks curtain at quarterback hands off no fake handoff the walls crosses over the 3225 yard line and stop.
By number ten Trey Blackman.
And things get a little chippy after that last play, a little pushing after the apparent first down for Washington County will move the chains once again, 6 minutes and 52 seconds remaining in the ballgame.
So the good news is Washington County's moving the ball.
The bad news is that the clock is still moving to.
Exactly.
And when you have a running team, you've got to be thinking about getting the ball to the sideline on your first and second down calls.
Second and one and, the quarterback sneak by Justin Vernon and I believe he's got the first down for Washington County.
Steve Hardin up and down the sidelines.
I bet Pardue does.
About five miles on the sidelines during this one.
Well, here's where it gets a little dicey for the La Grange defense.
You see a lot of players out there with hands on hips based on that first long drive in the third quarter.
They've been out there a long time on this drive as well.
First and ten from 24 handoff Richardson bust through inside the 20 to about the 15 yard line.
Tony Richardson with the is the ball carrier for Washington County stop by number 61 Tom Ruggles.
Jim, as you know, when players start getting fatigued, they start losing for tackling.
Technique.
And they get a little bit sloppy and Washington County would be well advised to take advantage of it.
Just try to keep pounding the ball away inside on La Grange.
Under 6 minutes to play handoff.
Richardson crosses over the 15 and is stopped immediately by the Granger's.
Now they've got to be thinking about clock management.
No, first down the clock is approaching.
5 minutes to go.
So now we'll.
Have a third down.
Ball's on the left range, 15 yard line.
We'll call this third and one back third handoff.
That's Jeremy Brown.
And it looked.
Like initially he had the first down, but.
It's going to be a close call.
That last surge, he seemed to plant and try to get something extra.
The La Grange pursuit got there and just pounded him back.
I would say that based on this spot, let me just go out on a limb.
It's going to be about an inch shy.
Of an inch.
Well, you know, last year you were good at this.
About an inch shot from up here.
Yeah, well, you might be good.
I tell you what.
Let's see the mark.
Okay.
He's about three inches shy.
Oh, yeah, I'm losing my touch.
I'll tell you what, you Florida AM.
Guys, I can't keep up with you.
Okay, now, here's the trick.
This is a huge call.
They got what they wanted.
Seemed like you had a decent enough surge.
You've got a fourth down and short coming up.
This is ballgame if you're watching the count.
Yeah, yeah.
You have to go.
It's under 5 minutes to go in the ballgame.
Rick Tomlin says, Hey, guys, you don't get here too often.
And when you do, you got to go for 14 inches for Washington County.
Little Birdie call his own number again.
Yes, he does.
And it looks like he.
Has the first down.
Justin Burden went straight ahead stopped immediately by Trey Blackman.
He gets Blackman wasn't quick enough before Burton got the first down.
Byrd got the first, but it looked like he got up just a bit woozy because he took it head on, head helmet to helmet shot as he was knocked sideways.
Make it the first down.
First at ten.
Washington County at the 12 handoff.
Stacey Walls and walls is stopped after about a yard by the.
Almost the entire line of the range.
While the clock continues to run.
We're now approaching 4 minutes to go.
The Lagrange linebackers now are turning out to be very active, filling those holes in the middle of the field.
And it looks like there might be a time out on the field.
There's some substitutions in and out of the ballgame.
Corey Jarell seem to be having a helmet problem.
You're trying to get it fixed as the equipment managers make a mad dash back to the storage unit right behind the Lagrange bench.
A second.
And nine for the Golden Horn quarterbacks in trouble Burton fires downfield Nance incomplete.
Intended for number 11 and drawn Archer.
And Washington County should be thankful that a hold was not called on Robert Johnson who had the block he's number 58 as his quarterback was trying to circle out of danger and just try to throw it deep downfield in coverage.
So now a 39 as Burton calls the play in the huddle for Washington Crowder.
Big play here for the Golden Hawks.
Burton scrambles right looks fires.
Stacy was on the receiving end.
He was just going to score.
Stacy was for the touchdown.
Wesley Woodard had walls in his grasp but lost them and was headed for the end zone.
Great call is good.
You got there.
Didn't wrap up and Washington County comes away with exactly what it wanted.
The seven point.
Jimmy Roundtree will try and make that seven.
Point game.
Right now, it's always 20 to 16.
But here we go with Roundtree.
And of course, the extra points are 20 yards.
Roundtree lines it up, the snap, the horn, the kid gets up and it is good.
So Washington County pulls to within three the rangers lead it 2217 an interesting 348 to play now question is as we see the replay there you see Burton rolling right and looking for walls finds walls now here's Woodyatt Patton lost him and wall scores.
Credit that missed tackle just fatigue the defense on the field for a long period of time the technique as we talked about before just not as it should be caught them high around the shoulder pads and slipped away.
Another look from ground level.
I'll tell you why.
That's a good angle right there.
And our TV crew has every angle covered here at the Georgia Dome, including this end zone shot.
Take a look at this.
Watch the spray come off the field on the cut and the hit right here spins away and gets the six.
Oh, I'll tell you what, four different looks on that one play, Mark.
I mean, you know.
I think there have after some Emmy awards.
I mean, I think so there's the scoring drive from Washington County.
11 plays 59 yards, however, almost 6 minutes taken off the clock because of it.
And walls, a 12 yard touchdown reception on the pass from Justin Burton, Jamie Roundtree, the kickoff that Todd is back deep for long range.
The quarterback for the green and the kick goes directly.
To Todd at the five he drops it picks it up at the seven and takes off after ten stumbles and falls down around the 14 line and that's where the Rangers will take it first and ten interesting.
Now the field.
Position that will play a factor in this final 343.
Here Todd was thinking possession all the way once he fumbled the kick he said let me just put this one on the shelf.
Go on offense.
I don't want to take any more chances with it.
You can see the muffs.
He picks it up and then just goes down and says, I'll just go back to where I normally play and get this offensive gear to the Greens.
They want to pick up a first down.
Last we mentioned, they lost the county gave up 20 points was on October 10th against Laney.
Can they hold the Rangers here.
And get the ball back?
That tied to Patterson and Patterson crosses over.
The 16 to about the 17 yard line.
Good defensive play.
Stacey Walls was in the middle of that pack, as was Eddie Merrill for Washington County.
One of the few times this, Jim, we've seen that black shirt defense, even though they're wearing white jerseys today, really come in, get a serious.
Surge and hit.
At the point of attack.
And now a time out on the field.
What a day of football it has been on TV the single day.
The Double-A games were very exciting games at triple-A.
Of course, we're going down to the final buzzer here.
Coming up next, the four day game in the five eight game later on tonight.
I mean, we've got quite a lineup of football right here on TV and then off and all weekend for that matter.
It's a flat lineup.
As you mentioned.
If you have a job at the Georgia Dome, you could put in for a pretty good overtime check because the games start at nine in the morning.
They don't close this place down until the wee hours of the next day.
I'll look at the Granger fan going crazy over there in the stands.
Everybody's everybody's having a good time.
There's Parr.
Do you remember last year there was a game that actually finished at 1230 in the morning and our crew was back the same morning to get started for the next series.
Yeah, I don't I don't think they want to hear that again.
So get some cuts and stay here.
Second and seven from the Grange at the 17 the pitch the Patterson looks to go down left sideline passes over the 20 to about the 23 yard line.
Stacey Walz was in there for the stop, as was number 76.
Trent Ingram Of course, Trent, again, as we mentioned, playing for the injured set.
Watch.
Justin Patterson didn't tell us a thing coming to the near sideline, being conscious.
The fact he didn't want to go out of bounds, but he's trying to pick up as much as he can on the angle and goes down just before he goes out of bounds.
Third and one for the Rangers.
At the 24 yard line that tied the quarterback and now he wants a time out.
They need to talk about this one.
This is a big play for the Rangers, a first down and they get the chance to eat off maybe another minute or two.
The Greens was outmanned at the line of scrimmage.
Washington County brought an extra player inside so they didn't have the advantage upfront that they wanted.
They thought better of it called timeout.
So so it's a time out.
Look, we talked earlier with Steve Pardue about what he likes about coaching at La Grange.
It's dealing with the kids.
You know, it's a it's kind of a love hate relationship.
I say that jokingly, you know, the being around the kids every day.
I love being around them.
But there's times, you know, it's tough, you know, because they are kids.
They get in trouble and and things come up.
But we're very close.
You know, I think that's the thing I'm the proudest of at La Grange.
We've develop a family atmosphere.
And and this past week, so many of our players that are playing in college are just going to college of college to wish us luck.
And and a bunch of them will be here tonight.
I'm really proud of that.
And the coach talking about his Rangers football team with a big third and one at the 23 yard.
Line, had a quarterback sneak by that time.
Did he make it?
He might have gotten with the lead.
The offensive line.
Had such a.
Push up front that they just were able to man and pick up the first down.
And it is a first down for the Rangers as they get it out to about the 26 yard line.
So they got a chance to eat up a little bit more of that clock down there.
You can see the surge up front.
Number 62, right in the middle of it.
Philip Bass got the push for La Grange.
So first and ten at the 26 yard line, baton is the quarterback handoff.
Patterson He looks to come inside on the right side off his right tackle and he gets down to about the 28 yard line and the stop by number 56, John Brown.
Scott Sparks for La Grange seemed to take a shot on his wrist.
He's very slow in getting back the huddle.
The coaches have got to be reminding all players to cover up with both hands.
They're not as much concerned about picking up the yardage.
You don't want a turnover.
Washington County, a timeout early.
We talked to head coach Rick Tomlin and his thoughts of coaching at Washington County.
I think the best thing about coaching is the relationship that you have with the players and the students, the other coaches and the teachers.
I don't think there's anything like it.
You know, we're basically surrogate parents to them for a great deal of the year.
And, you know, any time you you set a goal and you work to accomplish those goals, there's bonding that occurs and there's just it's just a great experience and it's an ongoing thing and it's experience that that lasts for a lifetime.
You know, the kids that I coached when I first got into coaching, we're still friends and it's it's just a wonderful experience.
Coach Tomlin, what a great coach he is.
They won titles in 94, 90 and 97, second and seven at the 29 top pitches.
The Patterson Patterson looks the part that's son and it's going through a loss by number 76 Trent.
Ingram and what a day he is having and filling in for Seth what.
Wesley Woodyard was trying to get a block on the corner number 16, you may catch him for a whole it was it was right in the open field in front of us.
We'll check out the call.
But Woodard was the player who had an excellent day on defense at linebacker, but he's not used to the proper technique for throwing that block in the open field.
I think this one's going to go against La Grange would be offensive holding yeah.
Holding on the offense.
The penalty for the third down.
Referee Danny Westbrooks confirms the offensive holding.
So, Anderson there's the hold on.
As Richardson was thrown to the ground.
That was straight out of the World Wrestling Federation.
That was a nice little takedown.
There you go.
So it's a third and 11 now.
And there you see third down conversions on the De La Grange is three of eight Washington County, six of nine.
And then we have another time out.
And I believe this is Washington County's last time out.
So their last time out with 203 left and a big play here, they've got to hold a mark.
La Grange has done an excellent job so far, just taking care of the football, their quarterback.
You've got to give him credit there.
Todd has done an job of keeping Washington County just a bit off balance with the excellent, excellent ball handling and play fakes.
We mentioned earlier the Golden Hawks have won state championships in 94, 96 and 97.
Quite a run since Rick Thompson took over in 92.
Meantime, on the other side of the ball, La Grange won championships in 58 and then in 91 and in 2001, under that guy, Steve Pardue.
You can see the fans in Washington County holding that sign their field back in San Diego is known as the House of Payne.
That's exactly right.
It's it's really interesting what Washington County has done to fire up players and their fans in the town of Centreville over the years.
Third and 11.
They can really fire them up here if they can hold the Granger back.
Time man in.
Motion is Terry Hubbard.
Handoff Patterson at Patterson is stopped cold.
Here the 20 yard line by number 23 Chris Bosh so Chris Bosh might have a weak ankle as you pointed out earlier in the ballgame.
But I'll tell you what, he's up for the big.
Play as it stands, the Greens should let the play clock run almost down to zero, which would give Washington County the ball, I'd say with about a minute, let's say 10 seconds to go.
And there you see Patterson being stopped by boss.
Now they just stop the clock on the field, which I don't know why they would do that as the teams are both lined up and ready to go.
Ben Higgins To kick it away, Stacy.
Was that deep for Washington County?
Was hard to get this one right around his 40 or 45 yard line to Washington County should have good.
Field position on.
This one.
As the clock continues to run, the rangers eating it up as much as they possibly can.
They might even take a no.
They're not going to take too much time.
Here it is.
Here's the puck by Higgins and it's a great kick delivered by Rawls at the 36 and he is popped immediately by the Rangers.
Great stop.
On defense by these special teams off the range led by Trey Blackmon, number ten and number 20.
Two.
Rickey Tucker, give.
Credit to Jeffrey Young, also number 11.
Got a shot in at the end.
Excellent coverage downfield for La Grange on special teams off of the best punt this afternoon.
He graphic in the upper left hand corner.
You see it, Washington County.
No timeouts remaining 111 to go and they must go from the 36th up on the 35 yard line first and ten.
This is burden.
Burden looks five incomplete in and out of the hands of number 11.
E-Tron Archer, you're also going to get a hold against number 54 of Washington County, Harrison Walden, who took a poor blocking angle at about the 25 yard line as Lagrange, once again had excellent pursuit in the backfield.
So Lagrange has a decision to make whether they want to go for the field position.
As you see the play call on the field, there's the whole shot right in the back and the ball was.
And the officials talk it over.
If you're Steve Purdue, you're thinking about field position and more about.
The clock holding on the offense in your penalty.
Repeat to that.
So Washington County back deep into their own end at their own 15 yard line.
So they have to go about 65 yards in order to get in the field, both positions.
Let's watch the three amigos, those linebackers.
Handoff up the middle.
Stacy Walsh cuts left over the 2020 531 to the 35 and pushed out of bounds at the 36 yard line.
A big.
Gain for Stacy Walls making up some of that yardage for.
The golden horn.
Last player for La Grange was number seven.
Rico Cameron.
As you get look from ground level watch number seven really measure his steps knowing that he's the last line of defense.
And just so the Washington County player.
Out of bounds there all the way out to the 35/2 and ten from the 36 yard line, 13 rolls right in trouble.
Birdie throws it tackle grounding I didn't see a receiver anywhere around where the ball is thrown, the flag is down and it could be intentional grounding draped to fix a play by number 64 Braxton Kelly Even though.
From the Greens defense has nothing left in the tank, they're able to get a rush in on the quarterback you can see two defenders now standing around hands on him.
They're just playing on fumes right now, but they're able to use their speed.
And get pressure on the Washington County quarterback.
Here's Danny Westbrook to an intentional grounding on the offense five yard penalty and the last two down.
That's the big part now here's where you dig down This is why you do those grass drills in the springtime.
This is why you lift the wings.
This is why you run wind sprints up to.
Every practice plays like this.
A situation that Coach Tom.
Boylan is not used to being in 30, 21, 30 in trouble, crosses the 15 and now brought down.
You may have a facemask on the play.
Demario Floyd made the tackle, but might have.
Grabbed the facemask by mistake.
Four got in late and you can see that head dip down.
The flag came in immediately at the point of the tackle, we'll sort this one out.
You can see the quarterback clapping his hands and that's what it is.
So facemask penalty with 38 seconds to go and the Golden Hawks still have a long ways to go before lining it up to tie this one up.
There you see Coach Tomblin on the sidelines with his quarterback, Justin Burden.
Here's the call.
Of the personal foul facemask on the defense.
15 yard penalty.
He'll be third down.
That's a big hit.
So 15 yard penalty, but still third down.
They got third in the foul.
Looks like 12.
I thought it.
Would be a first down.
So it's third down and 13 for Washington County.
They need to get to the 46 yard line for a first down.
The clock's running.
A little bit of.
Confusion on the far sideline.
The stadium clock shows 33 seconds.
All right.
Here we go.
Clock run some 33 down, burden drops back to pass, looks downfield fires has two men intercepted though by number 14 of the range and he brings it back to the 48 yard line intercepted by Montoya Young off the green.
It's a good news, good news scenario because there was also a hold on mid-range.
So They get.
The interception and the penalty will not affect the flag that goes against Washington County.
So with 19 seconds to go, the Grange is feeling very good about themselves.
I would be too.
20 to 17 Lagrange think coach Pardew happy happier one.
But he's not showing it too much he really is one of those combo composed coaches.
He shows a little bit of a smile, just gives one of his assistants a pat on the back.
What a triple A semifinal it has been.
Washington County and La Grange.
There's Danny Westbrooks.
One more time for us.
Jim, Washington County has really played now standing game this afternoon.
They just ran into an inspired and inspired La Grange team that so they could run the ball on this very tough defense.
Let's go back and give credit to the La Grange offensive line.
It really set the tone in the second quarter being.
Called offensive paint.
The penalties decline.
So there's the call from Danny Westbrooks.
All the Grange has to do is take a knee and head to the locker.
Room, and that's going to.
Be playing in the state championship.
That's the part that hurts you come this far, you get to the Georgia Dome and you come ever so close and your team winds up on the short end.
La Grange now gets the benefit of another step of personal foul.
If The offensive theme for San.
So the ball is placed at the 32 yard line and with 19 seconds to go, Coach Pardew is just beside himself.
He just.
He's ready.
Well, I'm gonna go ahead to.
The championship game.
My MVP of the game number 22, lead blocker Rickey Tucker.
He's the player that got the running game going for the green curtain.
We'll just take a knee.
There you go.
And the clock ticks down to zero and La Grange will win the triple AA semi final over Washington County as the two head coaches meet at midfield, the Rangers pull off a big win against the Washington County Golden Horns 2217 in the Triple H semi final match.
We expected a very closely contested ball game and that's exactly what we got.
Jim Both teams really relied heavily on the run.
It was just the fact that the Rangers defense, led by those three linebackers, were able to really dominate and slow down Washington County just enough to pull away the victory.
So the Greens, as we told you earlier, have won state championships and 58, 91 and oh one.
Now they have a chance in oh three as the celebration continues on the field.
We'll take a time out and come back to hear from the winning coach after these messages.
In a word from g. BTV back here at the georgia dome, la grange wins it over washington county 2217.
Go downstairs to Phil Proctor.
Phil All right, Jim, I'm here with the winning coach.
Coach, congratulations, man.
Talk about this very emotional win.
Oh, golly, I'm telling you, 15 weeks ago, nobody thought we'd be here.
You know, we started out the year we had lost all those seniors and lost our first game, first time we lost a regular season game in four years.
But I don't know what to say about these kids.
You know, we've been on defense.
Defense and defense had some guys hurt and our offense really stepped up just in Patterson running back today, I can't say enough.
And I thought that Todd played outstanding quarterback made the plays we had to and I don't know how we do it we had to piece together.
We were sewn up guys lips at halftime and typing up new injuries and we got to hang on one more week.
But I'm so proud of our football team.
And your offensive line really came off the ball.
You guys control the ball.
We'll talk about that line for me.
I'm tickled to death.
Those kids, they have gotten better and better year long and and we felt like coming in, we could block them.
I know everybody thought we were crazy.
We hadn't been doing real good the last few weeks, but we saw improvement coming in.
David Pleasants Our offensive line coach, has done a great job with those kids and they just believe and they did help us some holes in the running back to the great job of hitting them.
You know, we talked about the beginning of the game.
You want to go change the game plan even though, you know, said I wasn't going to be able to play.
Are you glad you made that decision?
Yeah.
You know, we had, you know, what are you doing as great as you want or not, you're in the semifinals in time to change our law.
You know, Tinker here.
There.
I thought the first touchdown was huge a great play action fake but they had Todd and got our confidence going and now Mario Ford had a big game for us.
Well, coach, congratulations.
Go celebrate and we'll see you in the finals.
I'm just glad I'm coming back tomorrow.
That was my goal, to have to come back more and scout this other game.
So we're happy to be working one more week.
All right, Jim, there you have it now here on the field.
Thank you, Phil.
Steve, Pardew gets a stay at the dome one more time.
La Grange wins it over Washington County 2217 win.
Coming up next is the for a semifinal between Thomas County Central and Mary's kick off about 640.
Steak SHAPIRO Bobak will have the call for you from our class at a film project dropped him tonight Joe thanks for watching the three AA semifinal from the Georgia Dome song everybody.
