Next up on the docket, championship, game number two, the Quad Boys championship between the Fayette County Tigers coming in at 23 and nine against 29 and three.
Columbia Eagles coming in second ranked in the state of Georgia.
Welcome back to the arena at Gwinnett Center, the second championship of 11.
You will see here on Georgia Public Broadcasting over the next 28 hours or so in Columbia.
This is their third straight tour of a championship game, winning in six, losing and seven.
They had to get through top, top ranked Westlake to get here.
Fayette County, on the other hand, new territory for them entirely.
They have not been in the playoffs since 1997 and hadn't even won a playoff game until this year.
Head coach Andre Flynn thinks of his team as a racehorse team.
And here's our race horses, our frontline herb white and still lightning.
Well, thank you, John.
Hi, everyone.
Welcome to the quad champion Chips du Clay, 10:00 with my partner, Herb White.
A tale of two teams, one going for their third or second state title in 34 years.
One in school history have never won a state title.
So I ask you, Herb, you played in the pros, you played college Experience helps in the NBA, certainly helps in the NCAA tournament.
But at this level in high school, does it make a difference?
Well, I don't think any doubt Columbia's going to have the edge.
They've been here so many times.
That's going to help them.
Now.
Are they still hungry enough?
Because we know Fayette County has never been here.
They've never won a playoff game up until this year.
So they are definitely hungry to win a state championship.
Now, are they going to be nervous?
Well, here's our hero.
Yup.
As we look at one of our heroes, one of the best juniors in not only Georgia, but all of the country.
Yeah, flashy player.
He can do it all.
A lot of people say he's going to be a one and done guy in college and then into the NBA.
And Noelle, we all know that means good news.
He's bad news for the opponents.
Well, here's the starting lineup and the story of this game.
Herb is going to be a very small team.
And when I say very small, you're saying six, seven, six, six, six, five.
They're much smaller than his Columbia team.
Now, when we look at the other team, Columbia, they have won two out of three or at least going for two out of three state titles.
A very big team.
And this guy coming up, the star of this team, a guy after your own heart, because the elevator from the Carter loves the Lakers and this guy can jump.
Travis, Leslie, he's just a great athlete.
He gets a step on your heels.
Slam it down.
He reminds me a lot of a guy that came out of Georgia last year, went to Alabama scenario Hillman And look at this starting line up.
Herb Some colleges aren't this big.
Six, five, six, eight, six, nine across the front line, big team.
It's going to be a great matchup.
Well, we're ready to go.
So let's hear the starting lineup for tonight's quote, a championship game it now let's meet the starting lineup first for the Fayette County Tigers.
I guard a 511 senior a number two, Brandon Boykin.
Yes add forward a65 freshman Number 12 Morris Dorsey at guard a six foot senior number 22, Quincy Korver at guard, a67 junior number 32 no jumps and add forward a66 senior number 34 Terrance Turner.
Fayette County is coached by Andre Flatt.
Now the starting lineup for the Columbia Eagles at guard a65 sophomore number 15 Johnson Carr at guard a 510 senior number 20.
David Forest at forward, a65.
Senior number 23.
Travis Leslie at forward a68.
Senior number 25.
Kenny Mitchell And at center six nine Senior number 32, Derrius Morrow.
Columbia's coached by Philip McCrary.

Welcome back to the boys.
Quite a championship game.
Let's send it to our guy coming courtside, Gerald Oliveira.
Gerald.
Hey, Stu, did you know that hustle beats talent when talent doesn't hustle?
Well, that's what Facebook Barry told me, and that's what he's been telling his team for the past five years.
And it had been pretty successful this season.
And so they lost in the region tournament to Stone Mountain.
He felt like that was going to open their eyes because they had torn the coaching staff out.
Well, now they're back to the fundamentals and Stu, they're back to hustling and doing the things that have made them the number two team in the region.
Well, Columbia, Columbia has the size.
It's Fayette County that's going to have to pick up the tempo.
It's going to be a really a battle of two different styles, Herb.
And we have to see if Columbia can slow it down or Fayetteville can keep it going.
Fed County controls the tap there in the black Columbia, now controlling the ball in the white.
And here we go.
Well, I think say it's got enough size to stay in the ballgame with him.
The size not going to dominate him.
I don't believe Fed County starts in the zone.
They'll mix it up.
The big guy inside with the easy hook.
they call the travel on him still.
They call him that.
They call What's it only call.
That's Darius Morrow going to that great academic institution and basketball power next year.
South Carolina Bay County opened up zone.
They may be a little afraid of getting in foul trouble.
I don't think they're quite as deep as Columbia.
Columbia opens up also in his own sort of like a boxing match, just feeling each other out.
Both teams loaded inside and out and you pass the ball to beat the zone over the zone up and no good.
Easy tap in and the bucket is good.
By Terence Turner six six freshman.
And here's some backcourt pressure as you can expect from Fayette County Columbia.
Losing control of the ball.
Fayette County gets it and that's what they wanted.
That press stepped out of bounds.
But that's what you want to do sometimes, even if they, like, get the ball across half court, you want that tempo to be picked up here.
Yep.
And we're going to have to watch this because number 20, David Forest looked like he went through the zone when he was guarding Noel Johnson.
They may be playing a boxing one or some kind of a jump defense.
Be interesting to watch that because Johnson scores a lot of points for this Fayette County team.
We'll keep our eye on it.
This Columbia team loaded as usual, up breaking the press and the jam throwing down is Kenny Mitchell, six, eight.
And this Columbia team is huge up front.
Nice ball movement, early going just underway.
Thanks for being with us.
In the quarter championship, Fayette County against Columbia still in that zone, finding the opening and open in the well done.
It was Reese Dorsey, another freshman putting it in and up and down.
We go pace favoring Frazier kind of so far Columbia just passing over the pressure defense they have so much size you look at this Columbia team you see their size up front it again, the third straight year they have been in the state finals.
Last year, loss for division one teams that they get back here.
Yeah.
And Jeremy Price, we all remember him not playing ball starter a lot of the season for the University of Georgia six foot eight £270 player of the Columbia team from last year four division one players gone office Columbia team and they're back in the finals working the ball around the zone and there's a lot that a little anxious for Shawn Cobb.
All right.
Let's watch David Forest on Noel Johnson.
You see him following him all over the floor.
Number 34.
So keep your eye on him or number 32.
You're right.
I think you're right.
Looks like a box and run with the ball right now.
Nice pass inside up No good.
And here comes Columbia trying to help up in the quarter.
But they're counting back and forth we go.
Columbia controlling, slowing it down as they want to look for the open shot if they have it.
But if not for going to that half court, they're county remains in the zone.
Try to keep those big guys off the boards.
Three, two, show three out front or a 1 to 2.
Some people would call it inside up and one and there is a size Darius Morrow all six nine of them can't let him get inside position coach Frank told is going to be huge in this game Here's a replay good rebound by the big fella Nobody inside big enough to stop that they hacked him pretty good to going back up and stoop Throw that on the box and one basically you got four guys playing zone one man playing man to man.
And if you haven't done that a lot during the season, that can kind of throw you off defensively.
So it'll be fun to see how long Columbia stays with that defense.
Also be able to find out how good a passer Johnson is able to sort of get off the rim and Derek to close the ball by Columbia.
And number 25 Kenny Mitchell 6869654.
Columbia across the front line zone defense by fake counting early going first quarter 28 state championship game of note Johnson the biggest player for Fayette County of course at six seven plays outside now forest is only about 510 Who's playing him man to man so you would look for Johnson to maybe try to post or get some isolation if he can, although with that box and one they're going to double team wherever he is on the floor.
Probably David Forrest, number 20 right there, controls it, tries to get it to the big guys in Columbia.
They trying to get inside that zone.
Patients at Ford County controls off and running.
They will be all night.
There's a guy that Georgia loves of his football rise.
Brandon Boykin, keep your eye on number two.
He will be at the University of Georgia playing football next year.
What an athlete, quarterback in high school probably going to move to the defensive back position.
He's a tough customer, Reggie said.
Kenny to an 11 in a regular season record for the football team.
Up the short.
Here we go.
Watch for kind of try to push try to run Columbia back on defense Good job by the Eagles.
They're not going to get beat back down on the floor about the quickly Bay County as Herb pointed out the box it would be very frustrating to us the score yeah Johnson got a good look hand but I tell you what you know how it is.
You get a little guy around you, bothers you around those shoelaces, man.
You don't want to put the ball on the floor and you also have a tendency to force shots.
Yes, you do.
Yes, you do.
You're counting for four for 16 in the first quarter to quarter championship.
Both teams in the zone up from the corner.
And good.
Nicely done by Wednesday, starters.
And they go right into that pressure No near steal and loose ball guys remain Columbia's possession presses effective so far early Herb yeah Cross-court Pass is going to get you in trouble a lot of times and you look at it Columbia's coach there, Phil McCrary, who has been here calm, cool, collected, doesn't feel pressure.
You know, we were talking about earlier both these teams.
We're playing high school.
We just went out of our county.
Maybe both these teams are going out of state.
I think it helps in a situation.
Jerry Mitchell, another John Carter digs.
Well, the kids travel all over playing ASU ball.
They go to these high school all star games, which of course we couldn't do back in the day.
So, yeah, these kids get a lot more national exposure here.
You see the move?
Nice look inside in the slams and Johnson fouled away from the ball and people think what And Georgia and Texas and all the Georgia players anymore because they're exposed to teams all over the country much, much more.
And they're used to traveling and leaving home.
So it's a lot tougher for the home state schools to recruit these days.
Johnson With the ball double team as he had been, we were talking before the game and we've been doing these games for six, seven years now together.
I said, How do you think Georgia ranks nationally?
You had a good stat 11 out of the top players this year out of Georgia and California, the only team with more and who knows how many more people out in California.
So yeah, Georgia consistently every year is right there at the top two or three states producing high school basketball talent boys.
And it's certainly Boy brothers.
It's a three pointer from one corner.
Try to from the other corner, not as successful.
Three for 21 left, first quarter, seven, Columbia, six early going, quite a championship game.
And so far I would say pace favors Columbia.
Yeah that's Fayette County doing what they want to do, hanging right in there with this very experienced Columbia team.
But Tip Jam in there, you hear Brandon Bullock get all my 510 and just tip jams it Boy, you won't see many five, ten guys go up like, that's true.
Let's stop them.
Let's see that one on the replay.
Watch this first.
And there you see Mark Rick just smiling itself in.
He's going to go on for some better interceptions.
If he plays defensive back, he may be blocking some field goals here.
Ricky spectacular fade county up early nine six.
That's one of those ones you dream about.
You go running to the offensive board, harden the ball, hits the rim, comes off right to you.
Not to say he didn't get up in the air, but it was perfect and man that was pretty Houston just Jared Houston at the line will shoot two only five seven plus off and no good they'll say it county showing no signs of jitters as they go for their first state championship ballgame.
There's two.
So there he is again.
Boykin showing some great leaping ability and great quickness through the legs.
Little too much there in Columbia.
A little control.
George has had some football players play basketball in the past.
They haven't had any lately, but they've had some good wins over the year.
A very difficult thing to do, though, for security, whether they're going up and down and way up.
But summit instances nine six as Fayette County beats Columbia leads Columbia nine six early going quite a championship game broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association.

Thanks you for tuning in to GPB.
Welcome back to the Quad Boys High School State Championships.
To play tend to get hurt White Fed County up early nine six over Columbia Early observations.
Well I'll tell you that we saw that slam dunk.
One of the reasons for that is because Forest is guarding Noel Johnson man to man.
So that takes him out of the typical zone spot he would have been in.
Boy, he can step right in from there and got that slam.
So they're shutting down.
JOHNSON But they're behind Columbia, controlling the ball with that zone, said County has been in it all the first quarter.
Columbia looking inside to those big guys trying to post up watch him underneath who gets the possession.
And there you see the big guy, Johnson.
Even though he's a guard, you've got to put him inside against this team.
unforced error there with tennis.
A lot of patience by Columbia.
You're right.
Got to eliminate the unforced errors.
We can control him for Fayette County.
He is the quarterback.
That is funny.
But Coach McCrary said he's one of the keys to this team.
You see the ball loose on the double team with the break Columbia up and well, good but they are over the rim close to a goal ten but Kenny Mitchell steps it in three and three guys up over the cylinder there.
Let's see it again on the replay.
Hard to tell here, but it looked like it could have been basket.
Nope.
Good for the official call as usual.
Say it kind of working it inside.
my.
Try for the jam by Johnson.
No good fighting inside.
Who's going to control Columbia?
They had him on down court.
Three on two fast break.
And that's how you finish it first, Travis Leslie, again, taking it inside.
And so far he were doing a shot.
Try Columbia.
Getting a lot of easy inside shot.
Yeah, that's a classic three on one break.
Good job by the middle man.
147 left in the first quarter.
Columbia by a point.
Here we see it again, Travis Leslie on the wing.
And he's unsigned still.
He hasn't committed to a college yet.
So a lot of people be watching him.
I imagine there's some scouts here today.
Well, he's considering Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Georgia, thank you.
I told the coach whatever he does as a South Carolina grad, please, just don't let him go to Clemson.
But great school.
So wherever he goes, he will be a player that you don't even have a coach stamp that's in the shirts and stuff of Davis Monroe.
He's going his scores, but you have to be Colombian.
Fake curry tight game so far, low scoring game so far.
Columbia remains in the zone more as Herb said that box and one for the those part short haired boy I'll tell you what they are breaking off a shot.
Columbia is underneath Fight for the ball on the ground.
Who controls Columbia inside to one of the big guys And that's how they finish it.
They're a small, big six nine guy finishing it up.
But you're in that zone defense.
You got to make sure you find somebody to block outs, too.
When you give it up as much size as Fayette County is.
And I am willing to bet that Columbia right now, Coach Gregg free at least dunks some easy layups.
The shooting fell over 70% is getting a lot of easy shots.
Well Coach Flynn telling his guys get get a body on somebody Jay County going for the three from the perimeter.
Well that's the man that's been doing it so far Caruthers with his second three pointer of the first quarter and it's a tie game at 1212 with a minute to go is the little guy controlling things for Columbia looking inside to the big guys and I said patience at Columbia is going to have to show throughout this game two three zone by Seth County inside up jumper nicely done by Kenny Mitchell the best comes from way outside and I know that Caruthers is feeling it, but that was way, way that was in the NBA Columbia controlling again with just under 20 seconds to go in this first quarter of the quarter championship.
Leslie goes way up in the air.
Couldn't get it to go down.
The man just to catch the pass was a heck of a move.
This is a game that's been played so far over the rim.
Boykins controls and sets up for one final shot.
That's the man you want to take it Johnson Johnson short rebound Columbia.
And we are going to end this first quarter with Columbia having a two point lead over Fayette County, 14 to 12 more action over the rim as we continue with the quarter.
A boys championship coming to you right here at the Gwinnett Center in 1968, Dick Panic set out on a new adventure to live alone for one year in the Alaskan wilderness.

Welcome back Columbia over Fayette County 1412 after one quarter of play in the boys Kwara State Championships to college head.
Herb Whyte, our pleasure to be bringing you all the action in action.
It is up and down and over the rim, which I know Herb, you love.
Yeah, a lot of action over the basket and I'm not talking about just by the big guys as we saw, but Brandon Boykins go up higher than anybody has so far and Travis Leslie's gotten up a couple of times.
So a lot of fun for the fans here.
Herb pointed it out the box and won early and they are alternating guys play Johnson watch him underneath He's number 32 man on him all the time which leaves someone open on that side.
He was an easy jumper for Addison Flynn, who happens to be the son of the coach.
So put him in there.
Get a bucket.
Well, they've decided they're not going to let Johnson beat them.
And averaging 26 points a game.
I don't know if he's scored yet, Stuart, but they've done a good job.
And if you'll watch Johnson as he goes through cuts through, you'll see a player from Columbia go with them.
And that's the tip off right there that they're playing him man to man.
Kenny Mitchell to shoot to, as Herb mentioned, not committed to any colleges, but plenty of Division one schools after him.
What a program these Columbia Eagles have three straight straight final appearances offensive glass Cobb at six five now has switched over and he's playing area so Johnson man to man good idea by Coach McCrary just give a lot of different looks a small guy first bigger guy if he's trying to post up exactly right still in that box and boy Johnson still trying to get possession there county Nashville looking for that's a triple team and that's what happens yeah any time he puts the ball on the floor and whoever's playing in that zone he's in is going to come over and help double team.
And then somebody dropped down from the wing.
And you're right, Stu's got a good a well-advised shot.
Steal by Columbia off and running door to door Jared Houston takes it in for the easy score in the last 1614 Columbia fans we in the beginning stages of the second quarter Columbia is going to have to find some other guys put points up there Johnson up.
Excuse me.
Say it Johnny this is again Columbia wanting to push their ball.
But as the coach told me before the game, a controlled break.
It's got to be there for a layup.
Let's look at the turnovers.
They're pretty even right now.
Five for Columbia, four for Fayette County up in in lately done Travis lesson.
No he didn't even put the ball on the floor Stu which is a great movie you have that leap in a bill to use it go up quick there Carey Still struggling a little on offense take the three and we're that will be open all day because Brian Stosur or excuse me Addison Flynn with the bucket again the coach's son makes two passes as he has once again.
and good Fantastic shot.
Nicely done, Travis.
Leslie again, he is really the main offensive weapon.
So far early for Columbia and he's very, very athletic and nice kiss off the glass here.
I always like to see people use the bank board.
I just talk about this boxing one as they kind of goes and attacks it, shoots it up and no good.
And there's your man, Johnson, trying to get it off the leg.
How do you attack the box one if you're the player that is being boxed and one.
Well, it depends on, you know, you got the little guy on you, you may try to post up.
It is really they're going to come and double team him wherever he is.
So you try to cut through get open maybe on a cut one.
But any time you take the ball on the dribble they're going to come in double teamed.
So he's going to have to get some real quick spot up jumpers or get something as he's cutting through the lane.
553 left in the second quarter.
On quarter eight, there's Johnson up and boy, tough shots, no good.
Columbia controlling the ball and fighting with their own man Now they haven't mastered running they go on this control break as they lead by three up and no good got a hold outside Johnson Mitchell go to the line You're going to have to keep it.
Johnson needs to contribute in other areas, too.
He's a great athlete.
He's six seven.
He needs to get on the boards and needs to make his presence felt in other areas.
When you're that man, that big box to one, get that ball and just cut to the hoop.
If you're the other guy, you're going to be open.
If there's two guys on his, somebody's going to be up.
And if you get frustrated, it can really hurt your team.
So he's got to watch that.
Kenny Mitchell, six eight shooting to and going to the bench.
Noel Johnson, maybe just to calm him down a little, just say, hey, look, you don't have to score to be effective in that.
That's a tough thing for a score to deal with.
You have that mentality.
I would have to do it.
I wouldn't know about.
Good.
Well, I guess I was in high school.
That was a long time ago to remember is to take it out of the peach basket every time Herb score go back to the center, said the jump ball.
Right.
The first one is good.
Second one up and good.
So largest lead of the game for Columbia at 520 to 17 with 530 to go first half Fed county going against it.
So now now that Noel Johnson is out no longer need a box and one and here goes off and running Columbia let's see what they do now it's his volleyball.
Leslie is so lively and there's two He just threw that one up on the backboard and bounced again and tipped it in for it came down almost and if you are Fan County, you got to be careful because you've got your big stud on the bench and these guys are all up and running and if this goes you might need a timeout made it out because well there's a run there 26 to 17 he could you could see that coming So first second quarter Columbia on a run getting easy shots like this 26 to 17 but stay right there Fair county not dead yet this is quite a championship broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association, the GHC.

Well, it's just simple.
Fayette County.
He's got to find somebody else that can put some points on the board for him or find a way to get Noelle Johnson some better looks.
Noelle Johnson averaging over 26 points a game, having a tough time with that box in wonder what makes it so effective is not only a box to one, but the tall guys that can double team you from the other side.
Exactly.
Craig County working it around the box world, trying to find some openings, taking a lot of three pointer.
That's the man who's hit it.
He'll go to the line and that is a break for Tri-County is Caruthers who said a couple let's see we got what was coming the other way and Ole Johnson with a technical foul and that might just be a little frustration with the elbow.
We told you to watch that.
I mean any time a guy averaging 2627 points a game is not scoring, he's going to get frustrated and fade county with the smaller lineup having a real difficult time penetrating and getting anything inside against that zone.
Referee explaining it to Coach Flint.
Her son Cobb should be trying to go foul to go up by ten, up and short.
You got to send some people through that middle with that zone there.
Play in the box.
So you pulled Noelle Johnson out of there.
You got some room in the middle.
Fayette County doesn't have a lot of size, but they need to try to get into the middle of that zone and work something in there.
Both technical foul shots missed.
Think about this.
Not only is knowing Johnson's frustrated, but this bad county team averaged 77 points a game.
We're almost through Midway in the second quarter and they've got 17.
So really frustrating.
The entire team got to find a way to get some easy hooks.
Fayette County with the ball going or excuse me Columbia going against their county zone this way, some elbows being flushed.
Addison Flynn threw an elbow there.
So your rights to the whole Fayette County team getting a little frustrated right now.
Roy Travis, Leslie, who has been the offensive star so far, early for Columbia, going to the line and a dangerous time for Fayette County.
They're down ten points and you don't want to get down much further.
Four and a half minutes left to go in this half.
So this is dangerous time for Fayette County.
Boy, it has been a long drought or so it seems, for this Fayette County team.
Let's see how they attack this box and won this trip down.
Well, the problem is Columbia is such a veteran team, hard to come back on.
They've been here so many times and Johnson out of the lineup.
So it's just a straight two three.
We can go into the hall, try to look Albany the no good Columbia controlling the boards not controlling the ball back to Fayette County 4 minutes to go.
Second quarter 11 point lead will be tried to cut.
Nope And they are just all over with Travis Leslie dominating both ends of the court.
Well, they're not getting anything off their pressure defense, Fayette County, they're not being able to run.
And that's their game.
And very, very difficult for them to get anything right now against Head zone Columbia going to that high low.
Nice save, trying to run a little with the ball.
Fayette County controlling it.
They've got a small lineup in there and our up and no good Let's check this out.
Caruthers is six feet tall.
It's Flynn's right around that Lynn is 511 a row.
Boykins is 510.
I'm not sure you've got a guy out there going against the team that's loaded with hype over six to let's see, Morris Dorsey is he's six five.
He's going out.
he just been replaced.
So maybe you just try to use a little speed to come back at that height.
And Coach Flynn said that beginning of before the game that he was going to try to run him up and down, but he want to go seven deep.
Well, you do a lot of different lineup changes when you're when you're down the whole first half.
You are Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m.
It's Georgia's longest running high school sports in academics, program prep sports.
Plus, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes.
Athletes, athletic programs and much more.
That's prep sports.
Plus Thursday nights at 730 exclusively on GPB.
Stu Clyde, tell it Herb White.
Our pleasure to be bringing you all the action from go that is Columbia's up on Fayette County 28 to 18.
I have done these games I think seven or eight years, believe it or not, my first trip to the Gwinnett Arena here, I've always gone to make it.
It is a great facility, as always with terrific crowds.
Yeah, this is a beautiful basketball facility.
And Quincy Caruthers, they need every point they can muster.
And he doesn't get it, but they get a break.
No, I still Columbia's ball and they are pressing.
And I think that's the ice.
They just get some pressure.
By the way, Johnson was playing sort of the deep back is back in the game and we'll see what he can do in the last three and a half minutes or so of this ball game.
Columbia tried to break the pressure and they do get the ball to the middle.
That's the key And all Johnson would a loose ball on the turnover Yeah he's just taking it outside which isn't a bad idea where he has a little more room.
Let's see what he can do.
Nice pass inside and that's what they need and that's how it is done.
There you see that the intel has Caruthers finishes.
Well we we knew Noel Johnson could do more than just score and he showed you there a beautiful crossover and the No look pass I think what coach is going to do is just let him handle it outside.
Let him have the box that of having someone pass.
And I think that's a good idea.
Did your best player give him the ball?
See what can create attacking that zone looking inside a little stuffed up there shot is up and no good and control by Columbia get it lookout inside and no good fake controls Let's see if Noel will get the ball get it to Johnson Gordon going up and that was covered very little by Columbia with four two.
Let's see what happens up in Beautiful Shot Nice Balance by John Cobb.
That's a big four point swing there, Boy King Just a little too fast with that one.
Probably should have pulled it out, tried to it.
And that was a big turnaround right there at the 32.
Johnson now cutting through the middle, coming out to get the ball and try to handle as they're counting down by ten, trying to get a little spark before we go in at halftime looking around not try to take the three in it out there you see him Johnson doing it another way, going to the points and getting it in.
Nicely done, Columbia back on the attack, getting the big guys underneath.
State.
County still remains in that zone, trying to get a little spark going into halftime and they're going to slow it down just a little bit.
Why not?
I'll tell you what, Herb, with everything that is said with Gold Johnson having a tough first half, he can go in at halftime down by eight.
I think you're happy if you're faint.
I agree.
And both coaches, it looks like they're going to be content to go pretty much with what we got.
We got about three possessions left in this ballgame.
If they play like this one, 23 to go first half of the quarter championship game, Columbia up by eight or fake county just holding it wanting Fayette County to come out and so far coach says stay back now we got some action looking inside Columbia tried to attack the middle of that zone quickness against height murders and that will be a foul on Johnson his third of the night.
Coach Flynn didn't like the call, but there was some contact.
Well that's huge because that's his third and up there and no was just starting to get into the flow of the game there and do some things and put him on the bench.
You're not going to have him in one with three fouls.
You got to get him out of there.
Boy, they could If he picks up a charge or something, you can bet Columbia is going to have that on their mind.
Antonio Wilson at the line to shoot two and Coach Flynn is going to put him on the bench and that's the right move.
You can't take that chance.
He's out of the ball.
If he goes for fouls, you're really toast.
Columbia comes in tonight's game 29 and three, but Faith County has got to make sure around this possession go down and get some points to slow it down, get a good shot or go to the line.
You're absolutely right, Herb.
No three pointers.
And there's the move that you did.
That's a shot that you need.
And quite good again with the Jam Spectacular two chance can we have a dunk contest at halftime Boy you topgolf across the big guy Well coach Flynn calling for a travel out there looked like he had a pretty good case but they didn't call it and instead Columbia is going to get a couple more free throws.
Looks like that's no doubt that Boykin fouled Wilson but he was watching watch how high is and Boykin six five Here's the replay on the dunk BOYKINS about 510 Look at that Goodness he was still going up when he threw that one down stoop.
You don't see many five, ten guys up in the air like that.
And the way he's built, I don't think a helmet and shoulder pads and cleats are going to make any difference.
I think he's just going to be able to do that on the football field.
Spectacular dunks in this first half.
First what up first one.
Good by Antonio Wilson, six five senior and Columbia getting the job done at the free throw line.
Columbia going for their second state title in three years.
Second, what is good.
We've got 38 seconds to go.
First half say Kyrie looking to cut into this lead, keep it a ten or try to get it below.
Trying to penetrate that zone.
Boykin doesn't mind.
He'll jump over everybody nice move up and one that's what you got to do you got to take it to that zone defense especially if the outside is not working and Boykins is the guy that can do that.
Here you see it.
He's strong.
The contact doesn't bother him and he gets it to go, Coach McCrary said.
Before the game, I asked him about this Fayette County team.
Are you worried that much about Johnson?
He said, sure, But said this guy at the line is really the guy that controls the tempo and has the heart of this team, gets the kind iron there.
And all of a sudden, all of a sudden it's a seven point lead with Columbia.
Try to take advantage of this press coming down to the last 20 seconds of the first half to the middle.
That's a walk.
There's a walk.
Good job by Fayette County there as they turned up the pressure.
Now, one shot, possibly a three pointer, even to you going to cut it down and look up there and you're going to have a manageable score going in at halftime.
That's manageable.
Now, let's see what they can do with 15 seconds to go.
BOYKIN The hot man controlling the ball, going against this Columbia zone.
I gave it to Boykin.
Let him better start moving to the hole right now.
BOYKIN Trying to do it.
There's the contact and he'll go to the line.
And Brandon Randall Boykin keeping this team in the ballgame.
And you're right, Stew said a moment ago, that fade count, he's got to really feel good there, except for Johnson's got three fouls, but he's got like four points and they're still in this ballgame.
Would have been nice to have that foul shot, but that's how it would end.
And some spectacular play over the rim under the rim.
And we've got a ballgame Columbia 34 fade 27.
What a first half and much more to come Quite a boys championship action to come right after this point.
Let's go to Gerald to see what we've got with the coach at halftime, how things are going for this Columbia team or Coach McCreary.
How satisfied are you with the hustle of your team in the first half?
The half is down, but the smartness is not.
But we've got to do a better job in terms of making sure we got a box out.
We're not boxing out with more of a spectator and watching the action than being a participant, and we've got to do a better job at being a participant on the floor.
Good luck in the second half, Coach.
Back over to you.
Student rebounds.

Welcome back.
Halftime of the Arena, Gwinnett Center, the Boys Quad Championship, Columbia on top of Fayette County by the score of 34 to 27.
Two games to follow after this in the five eight class with all the action going on, we always know that halftime means one thing in particular, but a certain individual gets go to the principal's office and catch up with some very special guests.
Let's send it back down to the floor and Gerald for thanks a lot, John.
I'm here with Doug Sanders as well as Charles Moore.
We spoke to Charles earlier.
I'll start off with you again.
No fear County second team out here.
A lot of people are here to support you.
Just talk about the community sport to come out for both of these games.
Well, people are justifiably excited and it's just the community support has been great.
The students are terrific.
Are the parents booster clubs of former graduates, people in the community, The business community is just continue to be great for Fayette County High School and it means so much to our school and to our student athletes.
So we we got off the the ball season to on the right foot right to start with with football season going ten and best best record in the history of the school got into the playoffs continued on with that with wrestling with area champions that has extended into academics as well.
We've had already had students qualified to take a team to the International Science and Engineering Fair as well as from first place winners, layer of debate with qualifying for for national competition.
And so it's it's great to be principal at Fayette County High School.
I'll tell you what's your assessment of the team out here in the first half.
Couldn't be prouder of them.
I know Coach Flynn is to be getting with them and they just had a great season so far and we're just looking for them to come back on this second half.
Also want to say I couldn't be prouder of our Lady Tigers.
They have had a tremendous season and I congratulate them on on what they've accomplished this season.
Okay.
Well, let's move on over to Doug Sanders.
Speaking of community support, I mean, look at the crowd over there.
I mean, in general, just talk about the support that you have at your school.
We brought seven bus loads of students just to give you an idea of support that we have.
I know we have about an equal number of community members as well.
We have a very strong booster club, very strong community.
The Columbia community is starting in 1966 and it's a very faithful community and they love to win.
And you could say this is our third year straight competing in the state finals.
We won in five or six lost.
I came in second runner ups last year and hopefully this year we could be successful against a very good for you kind of high school team.
Now athletics has been important at your school.
Talk about how has helped out the academic side over at your school.
I think these days people realize that you can't go on to play at the next level unless you're a good student as well.
The term student athlete is just that these days.
You know, colleges don't even look at athletes who don't have good grades anymore.
So I think when you're blue chip on the court and you're have blue chip steward in the classroom, that's what really matters.
Okay.
Well, thanks a lot for spending some time with us also.
Thank you, Charles.
We're listening back over to John Nelson.
Thank you, Gerald.
Halftime here, winding down and you had a matchup of size and speed with these two teams.
Columbia still up by seven.
Rumor has it we have some highlights and some statistics for our front line of Stu and Herb guys.
Fine.
First half, a spectacular first half.
If you look at this Columbia team, I think the key for them, a lot of easy shots.
Yeah and highlights is right because most of the lights were above the rim there's no doubt about it.
And we're going to see some in a minute.
But you got again, say it count.
He's got to feel pretty good about where they are.
Noelle Johnson, you look for him, he started getting it together there at the end of the second half.
First half excuse me.
Well, Columbia was attacking in that half court offense.
They were getting the easy dunks and they were also getting some easy buckets off the break.
Yeah, they got early inside.
Travis, Leslie here you see him and he had a two or three more.
You'll see in a moment as he goes down and scores off the fast break.
He's a finisher on that break.
We talked to Coach about it before the game.
This is a control break on the other side.
Well, Herb, just spectacular plays like that.
Well, there's no other plays like that except this one.
And it was Brandon Boykin again and showed some athletic ability, unlike you see very often, but also keeping him in the game.
Those three pointers from both corners.
And this is a ball game despite one of the best juniors in all the country not having a very good first half.
So here we look at the stats for the first half.
What stands out for you?
Well, look at that field goal percentage difference.
Columbia, 61%.
Fayette County only 33%.
And the rebounds, not a huge disparity but really the turnovers have hurt Columbia and kept Fayette County in the ballgame.
A big difference there and but although Fayette counties only scored two points off turnovers so it's when you look at that field goal percentage, it's amazing that Fayette County has been able to stay in this thing.
So here we go.
Columbia up Wofford County, 3427.
Much more action coming up right after this on GPB.
GPP stay there.

Fayette County has to be happy with this game, certainly with their big star on the bench most of the time.
Well, let's find out.
Let's send it to Gerald Albright.
Coach Flynn, they've been playing the box.
And one is the rule effective again against Noel Johnson.
How are you planning to get him involved in the game?
Got some more screens and those gotta be patient enough, but we got to set screens, he running off, so that's probably the biggest thing.
They're doing a good job in the box and one that means other guys got to step up.
He's getting one or two three guys on him.
The guy's got to be read the field and cut to the basket.
I think we'll hopefully we'll do it in the second half.
All right.
Well, good luck, Coach.
Back over to you, Stu.
Thanks a lot.
A lot of things to look for in the second half.
And certainly with Johnson in those three fouls, we talk about it.
It's normally the not the defensive foul you pick up in the fourth Herbert said offensive foul the other team tries to draw well that elbow he threw out of frustration really coming back to haunt him now but hopefully he can play the rest of this half without fouling and, keep him in the ballgame and keep this a competitive game because they need him.
Bad Faith County packing in that zone, trying to keep those big guys from scoring underneath, making Columbia score from the outside.
3427 just underway in the third quarter, the quarter a championship game.
Glad you're with us for what has turned out to be more great.
High school action inside.
Nicely done, Columbia.
Getting that Easy Hoop Again by Kenny Mitchell.
And there you saw it.
Johnson had to lay off the Columbia offensive player.
Not so he wouldn't pick up that fourth foul.
And nice work by Columbia.
A lot of patience on the offensive end there We see Johnson way outside forcing maybe a shot again, trying to make something happen.
Well, he's a great shooter.
Nothing wrong with taking that shot.
Hopefully you hit the first one and you get some confidence going.
He makes a lot of those shots during the year.
It's just not falling right now.
Only a junior probably still growing six, seven guard and everybody in the country is looking at him.
Well, they should.
Tough to tell in this ballgame because of what they're doing to him.
But he's still team and a look right there.
I mean double teamed everywhere inside try to get something going but those trees of Columbia won't let it happen.
That's what you need.
You're having those open shots.
Caruthers did hard from the three point guard.
They're counting with some pressure almost back court.
Let's see.
Time out.
Good call by Coach McCreary.
So 3638 Fear County only down by six.
And I will tell you what, this Johnson is a great player.
You're going to see a lot here a lot of him in the in the coming years for sure.
Let me remind you to this April don't miss Ripley, true life story of the battle of the women of the aircraft carrier Nimitz, Patriotism, love and the rites of passage aboard one of our most powerful naval ships.
Don't Miss Carrier beginning April 27th.
You can see it on g, p v Sue Clarkson.
It could hurt by 24.
There's quite a championship here.
Good to see you again, my friend.
We only see each other maybe once a year and then after that was in high school basketball where we can enjoy each other's company when we only see each other.
By the way, I hear you got a son that's growing uncontrollably two years old.
He's going to be playing in one of these games in about three or four years.
He's about six three now, and I think he will.
Yeah.
Columbia, looking inside, try to get it to the big guy now.
It's nice ball movement, nice finish.
It's easy for Darius Morrow speaking of aircraft carriers in that what Al Maguire used to call those big guys in the middle.
Yes he a carrier right there on GPP as well.
They kind of try to work it around Johnson trying to work without the ball Double teamed in triple team Nice move up in goal for Alexander and Noelle Johnson does he has two points so far in this ballgame Stu take another look at it up.
Definitely the ball was coming down this back court pressure, but the county has been effective at times.
Columbia taking their time and trying to break it.
Let's see what we got as they count the 10 seconds and they get it over.
They got numbers, easy hope.
And that's what happens.
Darius Morrow with another easy bucket that happens when you're six.
Nine.
Yeah.
The PAC man for Fayette County is about 510 and Columbia had three guys, six, six or better back there, a three on one.
And you know, Johnson is going to be aggressive.
He's got 2 to 3 fouls, another long three pointer nothing but the bottom by Caruthers 4835.
Well Caruthers is a double figure guy ten or 11 points a game so he can step it up another layup and they're breaking that press is Travis Leslie finishes now now this is the pace coaches will tell you the press hey we don't mind to give up a few layups if we can get the pace going the way we want it.
But you don't want to give up all that.
They're not creating any turnovers off the pressure right now.
Got to bail out there.
Got a foul.
Boykin doesn't mind you challenging anybody.
I'll tell you what's going to happen They're going to be quarterbacks in the SCC that look at this guy on their cover.
Somebody say I can throw it over him.
He's just going to jump up and have about five interceptions this season.
Well, you better throw it 12 feet because we know he can go 11 and a he's been up about a foot and a half over the rack with two arms already.
BOYKIN No good in the first, averaging a little over 13 points a game.
And how about this for a five, ten guy, six boards.
Not surprising when you see the hops he's got second one up, second one good.
And it is a six point ballgame, as you see that kind of pressure itself.
Columbia does not hold the ball.
They make the quick passes.
That's the first dribble they've had after three passes.
So a good job against the pressure.
The pressure, there's the turnover fade, kind of gets what they want.
Boy can control is looking up court nothing going with Columbia back on defense So there's another three Caruthers No good this time but fair carry with a little maybe extra quickness gets that ball.
Boykin No look pass try and good Caruthers again up and we've got a ballgame with a nice shot You know slowly and quietly It's a four point game here.
CARUTHERS With that knuckleball, pretty much it doesn't have a lot of spin on the ball, but he's got a soft touch there you see the three point field goals, and that's keeping Fayette County in it.
Four, four, eight.
Columbia's only attempted one three pointer.
They don't have to and they miss that one.
Well, that's why you see that Fayette County Zone defense getting back in there with good hands, making room for themselves from the outside.
And again, Fayette County doing all of this with an old Johnson, their 26.2 man player with only two points so far in the ballgame.
So give some credit to those other Fayette County players are rising to the occasion right now.
So Andre Flynn, coach of Fair County, he told me before the game he wants to make history first state title We shall see.
Well, I bet this is not the first boxing one they've seen on Noel Johnson since he's been playing.
Probably not, but probably the one they've seen with the most size Fed Got it.
Looking and staying inside on that zone, collapsing the big guy underneath the goal Johnson with a block and three fouls nicely done.
And Fayette County is running the whole Johnson up and what there you see and that's what we see the spin move and remember he's six seven Hitler the guy five seven there you saw the speed of Fayette County.
Got it out.
Nice spin.
And he hangs in there and completes it and three points in.
This will be Noel Johnson's fifth point, if he can make this one at once and slowly and quietly, if he does make it, we have a one point ballgame and we don't still two point game.
But Fayette County doing what they have to do that pressure keeping their star in the game for the easy who's there but no good big guys go up couple of shots and the rebound for Carey often running Caruthers took it I thought I was going to pull up for a three.
Well, that was a big swing that Columbia really had a couple of shots right under the basket.
Couldn't get it to go down and Fayette County to retain possession.
So it looked like it early might be a blowout.
It turned into a heck of a game.
Columbia up by a bucket, 40 to 40.

Welcome back to the Boys State Championship games to play today.
Herb White Our pleasure to be bringing you what's turned out to be a great ball game.
Played over the rim.
And you know, sometimes in games like this, you go over them, you look at the stats, naturally you think the stars are going to be the highest score and sometimes it's just not that way.
Yeah, and you got to give Noel Johnson some credit now because he took a couple of maybe ill advised shots early, trying to force it a little bit, but he stopped doing that.
He's helping his team with some passes.
He may not make the assist, but he's creating them.
The shot, the pass, it leads to the assist.
But there was a turnover well, almost Scotty with that quickness gets it back and let's see if they can tie up this game.
Boykins draws the foul again.
Forest got him from behind.
Look like Columbia, Canada, man to man.
That's not true.
Well, boy, these take to the basket any time you can.
Here you see it with his leaping ability he can get it off inside or draw the foul even against the big guys his job he's strong Boy, they need those foul shots fed Johnny averaging 77 points a game this season Young lineup keep your eye on this team Sure got guys like fortune graduating but they've got their starts coming back for next year parents Turner checks in number 34 averages ten points a game I don't know where he's been his six foot six trying to break that pressure.
Columbia only up by one point.
Now as Fayette County parks in the zone there's the open from the outside.
They'll give it to him play it county jumps over the big guy Boykin doing a little dirt drill football who controls the Columbia and a foul and all that possession right there.
You can see Johnson not wanting any part of anything inside tonight Get that fourth foul and I don't blame him Yeah that's smart play Any time you got all that kind of activity, stay away from it.
And he let Turner step in and not a bad foul there Make him complete the two quick points at the free throw line Jerry Mitchell to shoot to six eight off the front yard and in a game that's tight it could come down to the line.
And who's hitting those foul shots?
40 to 41 just under 3 minutes left in this third quarter to see two brothers in there took control.
There's a guy you might want to foul to it.
Johnson taking it way outside and even up there they're double teaming Caruthers with another long three Johnson there up no good up there and good So Turner a senior the big guy who you were talking about, gets an easy whoosh and all of a sudden say can't he is up by one.
That's their first lead of the ballgame since early on.
And that's a huge psychological advantage And they force another turnover with those scrambling little guys getting all over the man with the ball Columbia a little rattled the teams 322 to go working with the ball and controlling the tempo Johnson outside looks like he wants to take it and does what a nice jump shot he has control by Columbia All the controlled break that we've been talking about, contact underneath.
And let's see what we've got.
it's like Dorsey for the ball style scores to the hoop.
Nice body control.
And let's see what we do from the foul line.
Travis Leslie will try to make a couple of free throws That's three straight for thunder Sub the fourth quarter.
You remember those in Columbia may be playing in a little bit of a pace more than they're used to.
That can make you miss some free throws.
Addison Flint checks in for Fayette County.
The follow through throw goes a 4343 with 2 minutes to go in the third quarter.
We're all tied up in the quarter championship game.
Fayette County going against that box.
It was dark and that's what Johnson has to do with the ball exactly right What we said he needed to do, cut some through the middle.
He's got about eight inches on the man this garden.
And so if he's not stationary, he's going to be one on one with the short guys, easy hoop off the press.
As Travis left, it completes the easy hook and they keep taking it to Johnson's side, which is a smart play because they know he's been on time and heard you brought it up.
Boykin is strong to jump.
Why not take it to the hole?
Because he's going to be reasonable by first steps to go to the line and shoot, too.
Well, he's got that ability to hang in the air, makes that defensive man commit.
And then he draws the he's got to make the free throws.
So to make it effective, you've got a good looking stroke, a little short arms and a little bit of follow through.
Antonio Wilson The way Caruthers stepped in and gave a little lesson right then.
Checking in for Columbia.
Terrific ballgame, excellent up and no good couple out of their So Columbia dodges a bullet there Great Kenny boy there Quick trying to pick high to get someone open and they doing up to no good the big guys rebound and what do they go out of bounds solo big ball Columbia really struggling to score from over anything over 1012 feet and Thad County doing a good job they got to block out Columbia not going to shoot very well they're going to get the rebound fake count is going to be in pretty good shape here.
Fade county quickness getting to Johnson for three no.
Here comes Columbia with the numbers a pull up and nicely done for the three David Forest with the hook We got a foul.
Looks like Kenny Mitchell with the push the basket for Columbia and Johnson with a good looking stroke there a moment ago.
But you know he's he's missed about every jump shot he's taking.
So now he's thinking about it.
You know he is looks a little like if you remember John Lucas of the old Maryland days with that left handed jumper there.
By the way, Derrick Price now in for fake.
Got it down by two with under a minute to go third quarter Boykin controlling going after that matchup zone Wow what a man to man Caruthers outside with 41 seconds will they hold for the last shot Noelle Johnson out of the ballgame So I look for Caruthers to shoot the three or Johnson or take it to the fourth.
And there it is right there up and a little out of control rebound stuff.
Then what do we have Jamal All arrow going fantastic way so they'll maintain control with 26 seconds left.
Well Caruthers saw the opening there and he decided to take it to the hoop himself.
Now, does that look like the.
Yeah, there we go.
Very county has the ball very well.
You take it inside against this Columbia team, we're going to have to put it up pretty high good move to keep the old Johnson out, keep him for that full fourth quarter and there's a turnover.
And now Columbia might get the final shot.
That's the kind of offensive foul, a little bit out of control.
Settle down.
Coach McCrary says settle it out.
So 47, 45, 18 seconds to go there.
County to tie this thing out going into the fourth quarter getting ready to check in Morris Dorsey, the freshman little size there six five.
Well No surprise no Johnson's on the bench.
Maybe trying to get him a blow for that for every now you hate to have an offensive foul you know you're only down by two Fayette County with a chance to tie it up.
Going into the fourth quarter, Boykin gets the ball and let Boykin go.
And if they come to double, triple, I give it back to Caruthers for the three.
Looks like the plan going to the hole, jumps out, loses control got to get it up quickly you doors and they say the buzzer went off the backboard lit up before the shots.
Well, after three quarters it's a two point game.
Columbia over Fayette County, 4745.
What a fourth quarter we have coming up.
Stay right there.

A state championship game, Columbia over Fayette County, 47 to 45.
Don't forget.
Stay with us.
More great action coming up in tomorrow.
Tonight Five girls and boys championship games right here in Gwinnett.
Herb, what's going to make the difference in this fourth quarter as to who wins this championship?
Well, probably be whoever scores the most points, and that's why we pay the big bucks case to look for.
Let me be more specific.
Well, free throw shooting is going to be big.
Both teams been missing a lot of free throws.
So whoever can make some free throws and there you see it, right?
There are seven times eight lead changes and just what you want in a high school championship basketball game back and forth.
Fayette County, with that zone now putting Maurice Dorsey, the big tall freshman at the point, to try to at least put a lot of pressure on those guys that the thinking about outside shooting.
Yes you better believe Johnson got in the lineup for the stretch run.
As we start the fourth quarter of 20 championship basketball fantastic It's Columbia.
Well they once again want to make it a little tougher to throw that pass into the middle as drilled into the big guys for Columbia.
So got some length out there on the front.
Columbia taking the time against the zone.
Good shout out for no good.
And look who gets the rebound.
The man at the point.
But he walks with the ball and the young guy just couldn't control it.
So.
Dorsey, nice play, but walk with the ball as he fell down.
723 Plenty of time left free of the team to make a run, but no one really has except for that one run to get their county back in this game.
It's been nip and tuck way outside as Columbia triggers it in.
And Columbia again, not being able to hit anything from outside the basket area.
And that's loud and say county here at the park that zone in Columbia try to get it inside shot and it will be Columbia Ball.
Leslie trying an athletic move.
But once again, he's got to go around a lot of bodies as Columbia Park and everything just about in the paint.
I mean, Fayette County there.
slid right in there.
Nicely done.
Bludgers on cards, 4945 off the out of bounds play nicely designed maintaining that box and one on that man right there Johnson who has to take it aside and been a little more patient for others from way outside with another three.
Well knowing who the hot man is and Caruthers wasted no time from about 30 feet and there's a turnover.
They got a layup.
Look out for the dunk, Willie.
Throw it down.
Trust him.
And that will be remembered.
Sometimes it's best to do it the easy way.
Boykin with a little bit of a reverse dunk there but didn't cross as far as points the other way.
Well there's a great lesson for you guys.
I don't care how high you get up sometimes it just makes sense to lay the ball in the basket.
Are others outside working against that box and watch Johnson on the left side try to get possession going back door.
Let's see what he can do immediately.
Double team go baseline and a blocking foul.
Well Boykin better hope his team wins this win because I got to be honest I was waiting for something special.
I thought I'm just going to do it to him.
But he tried to reverse it.
Should've stayed with the forward dunk.
He certainly made those.
But Johnson, with a couple of big free throws, those are all going to be for the rest of this game.
It's and sometimes it's not how many points you score.
It's when you score and Johnson the example of that he's only a junior he'll be back and he averaged 26 this year.
Look for this kid to average 30 or 35 next year six seven Guard one of the best juniors not only in Georgia but in all the country with a second off and doesn't get the best 4949 tied up turnover there.
Boykin trying to just hustling and he does have another Caruthers controls try to tie him up and what do we got foul Columbia now baby getting in a little foul trouble That's their seventh team foul so that'll be a one and one for Caruthers coach wants to talk about it that pressure affecting effectively what took so Columbia coming in ranked second 29 and three going for their second state title in three years.
Fayette County never won a state title coming in Herb let's let's tell you about some additional live information on the game in case you want it I know you do go to a pep talk back slash basketball where reporters from Score Atlanta are writing live blogs and all the action also make sure to check out all the best high school coverage and score Atlanta in their five prep editions in more than 1300 metro Atlanta locations and 51 schools.

And you got to be enjoying this.
Please do.
I mean, it's a first class job in operation.
All these high school games.
It gives you the opportunity to see the young and up and coming stars.
As the first one goes.
I've worked in many cities.
No one does it better than two top our days in the gang and in the trucks.
So yeah, keep it going that way.
I get to keep coming out here and doing these games.
And how about this Fayette County up by Warner Brothers, really rising to the occasion for this Fayette County team and makes a couple of big charity tosses.
We'll see This Columbia team handles this pressure to forcing shots and some turnovers and that's been the big difference in the second half.
And almost another one guilty by Jaren to that pass this is one of the quicker teams that I have seen out front this bad county team three or four guys and Coach McCrary a little little surprise I think with his veteran club coming in here and letting the pressure bother them like this.
This is a team that has been here before.
You would think they wouldn't get rattled, but they have a little there's a great shot in the clutch shot down by John of and it's 5151 with 530 to go What a game There you see the turnovers and yes sir Columbia that's a surprise to me.
You know what?
I think that it may be reversed.
It might be reversed.
But I'll tell you what, I think Fayette has capitalized more on their turnovers than Columbia has, and maybe that's a little deceiving.
Columbia, with the ball here attacking that zone once again and saying that that was the first outside shot by Columbia in quite a while.
If we had a shot chart, I mean, that's the first thing over eight feet they've scored in this half, I believe that was reversed on those turnovers fought Columbia trying to get it inside, forcing another shot.
The big guy still putting it up.
That's the size Johnson has to back off and see who may be approaching the 660, but I still know my stats here.
You forget my name every once in a while, but I'm glad you know the stats.
That's the first time.
Come on.
53, 51/3 count.
He tried to get it in there.
Caruthers looking for the three.
He will take it and just off the rim Columbia controlling tough shot there had the defense right on them Columbia much more deliberate trying to get it inside try to work it inside the zone and with 419 to go Johnson still with those three fouls trying to pull it out what's more Curry says be patient bring them out.
Tell you one thing Gerald Schuster better watch his little back and his touches.
He was on his back court inside again, one that is the big guy.
And about the fourth Tyler Johnson right there as a very small six nine.
And this will be five straight if he completes the free throw nice inside and strong.
So yeah you're right.
I mean, Johnson had to go for it.
Well, they're just going to have gold.
Johnson's going to have to front him and hope they can get some backside defense because he's not strong enough to guard him from behind.
And he's really got to be careful.
Now he picks up the fifth.
It's going to be tough for Fayette County.
Let's remember that 4 minutes ago, Johnson picked up that fourth.
Let's see how long he goes.
Now, Travis Leslie dogged him in the box and one timeout by Coach Flynn, who wants to talk about it, 5651, five point game with 351 terrific action throughout the game to great teams.
I would say four or five division one players on this court, no doubt about it.
I think Coach Flynn wanted to talk about his defense down there, how we're going to cope with the big guy inside.
He's got to do something because he can't allow Noel to pick up his fifth.
What a reminder.
It feels like you that do help make great local programs like these high school basketball games possible right here on GPB to show your support slip call one of the numbers on your screen or visit our website.
It w w w dot gpb dot org backslash support and of course, thank you for supporting Georgia public broadcasting per of a big part of it.
He's absolutely right.
It's terrific that we can bring you these great games and great high school action, not only basketball but football, just a terrific job.
Well, it's a great partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting and the Georgia High School Association.
And now we need the Georgia public is the third part of that team.
Noelle Johnson, with the ball controlling it outside, as you can see, hedging over, trying to double team.
They don't want this guy to beat you and he is going to try it to the hoop up.
And let's see if it's a continuation now and it may be in a triangle and two now it looks like they may be playing career.
There's an Noelle Johnson man to man.
We'll get another look.
But of course, the triangle, too, means two guys on hip.
Zachary Guys underneath and obviously the triangle two underneath and one on the fat ladder.
We'll take a look at Johnson up with the first one.
And good.
Plenty of time left in this ballgame.
He's impressed, man.
You can tell he's a major talent.
I mean, he's struggled a little because he's got two guys on him every time.
But he is a major talent.
That one goes off.
It's 5652, just a junior babe.
Connie continues to pressure Columbia, try to bring it out, try to get it inside their foul could have been a turnover.
And now you say no.
Johnson is running down low.
He's going to have to do that and get help from Turner in the middle.
So I want him to pick up his fifth foul because as you said, Herb, that would be lights out to the whole up and no good end Tip Junior all those ten and one in the court, but not to me so the basket is good a six point game Johnson bringing up the ball now it is all in his hands trying to avoid double team.
I think it still looks like the box of one of those playing making his case over there.
The ball is still on the rim.
Not going to get satisfaction though.
Here we see it again because, well, the ball is rolled over to the side.
It wasn't above the basket, but too close for us to call for sure.
BOYKIN With the ball off somebodies foot, let's see who it is.
It'll be Fayette County.
Well, we're getting to the point where say is just about got the score on this possession.
Go to the foul line it to that man right there Johnson up and what a shot That's the way you do I don't care how many you missed.
If you're a shooter, you get that open looking.
Got to take it.
If you're a shooter, the next one is the one that starts you for every single out of that one going in 58, 55, long, long from over.
I've impressed with a lot of kids and and I can't wait to see how Johnson develops.
I mean, he might be still growing.
You can tell he's got all the skills.
And this Fayette County team has taken Coach Flynn's game plan and blueprint and worked it to perfection.
They're down by three.
But Herb, they've had great pressure.
Now this team is right in the ballgame.
Yeah, they refuse to say Dion Johnson will get here.
You see it?
Watch him spot up.
Boom.
He gets up in a hurry and he's six foot seven.
He's going to be a great wingman when he gets into college, but he's got another year of high school basketball left.
He's also got that slingshot that's going to be tough for anybody.
He holds it back.
Just slings it back.
That's tough for anybody to block.
Yeah, he works on his ball handling a little more.
He'll be a to guard or play the wing it three very versatile player back in the game for Columbia pulling it is David Farr so let's see how this pressure goes They've got Johnson with that long arm span they got numbers they got numbers and see if they get it up and they go for parts.
The kind of foul you have to give right there at this time of game.
Caruthers a little physical, but don't let them go up there for a three pointer and they make calls in a flagrant.
I can't believe that that's a that's a clean play there.
He went up high.
He's just trying to stop the man from scoring.
Well, I hate to see him call a flagrant foul on that one.
That's just a good hard foul there in my book.
Anyhow, we got to see that one.
That's what they're going to call and I agree with you and the refs in.
Well, no, they didn't call the flagrant foul.
They're just giving him two shots.
That's the correct call.
If you go under somebody or touch somebody his head from behind or something like that's a flagrant foul.
But just going up, you get the ball.
That's just a hard foul.
Mitchell This is the first tip to get better box out with these trees underneath it.
See what happens in the first.
Second one is good to 59, 55 to 44 to go quarter championship basketball coming your way.
It doesn't get much better than this.
Johnson gives it up.
Boykin to Caruthers three point shot is good and just a great look by Boykin Finding the Hot Man and Caruthers getting to the open spot.
what's the turnover numbers?
Let's see if they go for it.
They do.
Tushar Dunn and Travis Leslie with about a ten difficulty layup and the teams trade unbelievable baskets three point game Boykins controlling Johnson out front just over 2 minutes to go slips out of Johnson's hand and that is a costly turnover that wasn't looking for the return pass Columbia continues to attack now pulled it back you back down to get out and get some pressure now holding the ball out in front stalls are waiting for some defense to come out and they do go to the hole.
Houston back out working around and this is going to come down to foul shooting with handling what a shot.
So a positive Columbia controls 133 to go six, six, seven six colonia 6158 133 to go.
And I'm guessing just guessing here that Coach McCray might have been a little ticked off at the shot selection in this one.
Yeah.
Columbia of course with the lead three points want to work it and hopefully draw the foul and make some free throws.
All right, Herb so let's put it fade Counties huddle.
Here's 133 to go.
You're playing good defense all the stolen the ball how much more times you let off the clock going for steals before you say I've got to start fouling Well I run to go down at least a minute Mark here, I believe still.
And you start looking at that score sheet and seeing who you want to foul when the time comes.
So you look down and Columbia's free throw percentage is there are some guys out there that are around 47, four and 50.
So there are some guys you can foul.
You got to be telling them who you want to foul.
Give them that number right now and I take it down as quick as they can.
He is I try to go for the steal for about 30 seconds.
If you do foul, why you going for the steal?
That's okay.
But I don't I don't intentionally foul yet let me remind you that the Redan lady raiders coming up next against Stevenson five a championship and later after that we got the five boys but here we go Great action quartet boys state championship game Columbia to inbound it Let's cut you down and see when they start fouling There they go.
Try to get that pressure.
You're absolutely right, Herb.
I think you're right.
Maybe with a minute.
Try to see if they can get an open finish.
Huge future.
Your shot to complete a three point play.
Well, that's the worst case scenario for Fayette County right there.
Here's the replay to the hoop slap touchdown.
And if you got a foul, you better get a piece of your neck The ball well the on the bench going defense offense was good back in for the offensive end of this game.
Well he just got past and they didn't really have time to grab him just made the great shot and this is a big free throw and it was good and then coming it dropped Houston for Columbia.
So six point game 123 left.
But still the way with Caruthers is shooting the ball.
Let's see what Johnson can do.
Brothers with it to Boykin, to Johnson fake up and tough shot no good in from your controls and now you might just have to start fouling immediately.
Yeah it's a two possession game and unfortunately, it's two threes.
Make it a tie ballgame.
So yeah, you're going to have to start fouling Johnson out to Derrick Price in and you figure he takes Johnson out so they can foul but no back in when they get on the offensive end there you have that small pressing line up in for Fayette County you have to have good hands folks.
And I'll tell you what, let's see the train that goes down.
Great call.
Yes, it was That is a great call right off the hand of Kenny Mitchell.
So Johnson comes back in, the offense comes back in.
It's still plenty of time.
6458 107.
That's fat one batter trying to get that ball.
I'm guessing the Johnson a open maybe three pointer for Caruthers as they're really playing him tough on the three point line Caruthers up underneath Gus's and Columbia control Let's see if they foul immediately triple team had faked his ball again college ball good with just under a minute to go well that was good defense by Columbia though not given Caruthers the three pointer making him take the shot he didn't want liner going into the lane It's a Boykin he's got to get it off quickly.
Johnson lost the ball and again I believe that's going to be catch ball that's three straight hustles sort of lucky twice fake and he rushed him.
Now Johnson lost that one on the way up three just about got to have a score here two or three for Fayette County Johnson then got it to Boykin.
Well, it's some time off looking for Johnson.
There's Caruthers trying to get off of good defense, looking for a three pointers.
We'll take it.
We'll see what happens.
Got to get one up quickly.
Time's a wasting.
Brothers to the hall.
It in for the layup.
By now.
You're counting on this.
Nicely done.
Nicely done, You down.
It's a two possession game still but you get Columbia to go down and miss a free throw.
You come back down and score and there's still plenty of time.
Well I like what Caruthers did They're playing him so tight out three points I just take it for the to get a hook get the timeout.
The Fed only by four let me remind won't be a team the third straight year and they're in these finals trying to win their second straight their second title and for those faint county tigers trying to win their first state title in school history.
So what more could you ask for in 33 seconds?
Let's take a look at this crowd.
Everybody on their feet is screaming for their team to win timeouts remaining could be big Columbia with to fade Connie with one.
Well, that won't be.
It's going to be all free throws from here on out.
So you'll you'll have a chance to say something to your team when they walk to the free throw line.
But, you know, this is anybody's ballgame right now.
33.4, as we know in modern college basketball, is an eternity.
The only danger point defense on offense right now, in my opinion, with keeping Johnson on the floor is that if you get a steal or you get some kind of turnover.
You don't have your best offensive player.
I understand what the coach is doing.
He's got four fouls going back in.
You'd have to use a timeout timeout with three.
Let's see how it goes on this press and a quick timeout.
they got a quick foul I believe made it.
Let's see what we got.
So only five team fouls on Fayette County so 16 fouls.
Now the next one is Columbia and that's a good foul because if you want to put Columbia at the line, you got to be able to put them at the line.
At least 17 fouls the next when they will be shooting the one and one.
Morris Dorsey, the freshman back in for Fayette County, the old North Carolina, two guys out of bounds and there was a foul and shake it up a lead on the play Jared Houston who probably thinks he's in Houston right now what's he going to put him on the line making Big Rodney a good hard foul instead of that one?
Is that a guideline or is that a rule?
It's a big bracket score and probably the biggest free throws of this young man's career along this.
You want possibly Houston, only a 31% foul shooting threat it's got in the book just under 30 seconds to go four point game and you are absolutely right for two time a lot of iron but good is our old buddy Eldorado would say man it all looks the same tomorrow swish or the bounce of 6560 That was huge.
Well it's going to be a two possession game no matter what, but you're going to need a couple threes If he makes this up and though good so Johnson with the ball has to bring it up quickly and I just think he's going to take off not give it up.
Well maybe he does Back to a three pointer up And yes, you saw the timing of it go 6563 timeout.
Kind of you, sir, last time out and that's a good one since so you know how sometimes you watch a shooter go up and you can just tell the moment he takes it out, that's going to have a feeling the Johnson watching it doesn't get much better than this beautiful shot up in the air.
Well, you were right.
Stu Johnson wanted to take the shot, but he gave it up.
And that way he got open because he just as offensive teammate gave it back to him and he was open for the jump shot.
And Coach Flynn did a great thing a moment ago when he used that foul before the clock started running, because at that time fake count, he only had five fouls, so they didn't let any time run off the clock and they fouled to get it to six fouls and make the next one be the seven.
So smart play by Coach Flynn, saving those few seconds and they're going to be big right now.
Well, Herb, you were right.
There are a lot of players in Columbia that you can foul that aren't exactly stellar at the foul line.
Yeah, really.
Cobb is their best free throw shooter at 75%, Morrow at 72%.
And the rest of those guys are 60 below.
Now you see the three point field goals, which has kept Fayette County in this.
And I don't think Columbia has had a free three pointer tonight.
So let freedom ring for Fayette county fair county with that full court pressure, get it in and the foul immediately having some problems there is and there's the foul and fast pass a 60% free throw shooter that's one of the better fouls movies about myself number three well with that little bit of time left you care about where you got a foul you just got to foul somebody the first shot get his Johnson back his turn as Turner for Fayette County and boy David forced to shoot one and one bucks What up first and good luck at the bottom Nicely done David Forest the senior.
So he's played in some championship games before and that's a guy you probably want on the line.
You 6%, but he may make 85% when the game's on the line.
Second one is good.
So here we go.
Two possession ballgame Johnson bringing it up last time gave it up and give it back He shoots it four stand nothing better Columbia with the rebound in wide open for a layup but they pull it out smartly with just Turner you got a foul right now they do well Johnson with a very difficult shot I made it look for Caruthers there but give these kids credit they're battled right up here to the end but it looks like they're up against it right now.
Well, Johnson hit that last three pointer.
Just fill it out.
Want to start The Columbia Eagles look like they will wrap up their second state high school championship in the last three years.
Take your hats off to both these teams.
Terrific, well-coached, terrific defense and will play tonight.
A well-played game.
Not a lot of I mean, the foul situation was good.
There was no fouls.
The officials did a good job.
The fans have been into it all night long.
It's just a shame somebody has got to lose, but that's why they play them.
Four others will bring it up the way he's been shooting threes.
They'll take it all the way up and no good and it's hit no good.
And the final score and a terrific quarter, a championship game Columbia over Fayette County, 69 to 63.
And it's tough to get to the championship game once or twice.
But Columbia been there three times lately.
They win another win and that's a difficult thing to do.
So hats off to Coach McCrary and his team.
It's just a terrific job.
Both coaches stuck their game plan, both coaches and almost work to perfection.
As you mentioned, someone has to lose.
But whatever you do, remember the name Noelle Johnson.
This kid had what was in the off game, but it was off because he was double and triple team.
Well, we have lots more coming up for you Again, the final in quite a championship basketball Columbia over Fayette County 69 to 63 more coming up DVD or VHS tape copies of today's game can be ordered for $19.99, plus $5.50 for shipping and handling from game tapes.

One heck of a way to close it out because next year we dropping down the triple-A and we looking to try to do some damage in triple-A next year as though we did in four.
It was a great job by these kids that you only had one returning starter.
How difficult was it to get back here?
Well, we had a lot of kid that came off the bench for us last year and got valuable experience.
And that group, that group has been to the state play three years in a row and we got a lot of experience coming back.
It wasn't that difficult.
It was just wanted to make sure that we meshed together as a team.
All right.
Well, congratulations, Coach.
And go celebrate with your team.
Back over to you, John.
Thank you, Gerald.
Two championships down, two to go, the five championships starting at the top of the hour with the girls, followed by the boys live at the arena at Gwinnett Center is good so far.
You're watching be back at the top of the hour.
