He's coming in.
It's a slam jam.
The pull up from three.
Watch this guy go drive, backs it in and gets it.
We welcome you to make him prime time basketball here on Jeopardy!
Our final game of the night.
For a state championship hailing from the region, six Columbia Eagles and hailing from Region four.
It'll be the Eagle Landing, the Golden Eagles.
The top seeded Eagles landing.
Those golden Eagles guilty.
Tyree along with Herb White and Herb, we got a dandy of a basketball game.
First of all, let's start with the Columbia basketball team.
And of course, we'll take a look at them.
They are loaded from top to bottom.
But, you know, they've been here before, although they lost a lot of players from last year's state championship.
So but they do have one great player that we know of, that's for sure.
And there is shots of Dean.
He does everything for this team, 26 points a game and he leads the team in, assists and steals.
So he does it all for the Columbia Eagles and he's going to have to do it tonight and he will break you down.
And of course, Taj said he's headed to the Auburn Tigers.
We take a look at the team from McDonough Eagles landing and they are loaded from top to bottom, everybody.
Yeah, they got six D-1 prospects, as we mentioned earlier.
So they got a guy on the bench that's going to play a college ball.
It's not even starting, but we'll pick it out.
Eric with a hit the first everybody out of those six on this team.
But he's a65 combo guard who can do a lot of things and he's just one of those six, like I mentioned.
All right.
Let's take a look at their Tuesday's success from Tax G. Learn more, earn more before that.
Let's check in with a third member of our crew here tonight, Jon Nelson.
Good evening.
Jon nelson, the newly married jon olsen, our man.
Thank you very much, neal.
Good evening to you.
Answer herb Colombia is behind me.
And when Colombia lost legendary head coach Dr. Phil McCrary to retirement, Kerri Sandefur, who had coached a lot of different programs in DeKalb County, was the one anointed to take over the program.
Sandefur When he was asked about what it's going to be filling, McCrary Shoes said he's not really there to fill his shoes.
He's going to be his own guy and try to start his own traditions and continue what success is Columbia has had.
If you know McCrary and you know his past, you know that it's usually a very, very intense Dr. Phil McCrary on the sidelines.
When you see.
Sandefur, it won't necessarily be that way.
It'll be a very calm exterior, but the brain will always be working.
When I asked him, I said, okay, compare your style with somebody.
It was kind of like Bear Bryant, where the game will be the easiest part of the week and the practices will be the most difficult.
We'll see how those practices guys have turned out tonight as they prepare for one more chance at a championship here in Kuwait.
Back to you.
All right, John, thank you.
Let's go to our starting lineup brought to you by Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more.
Break them down or.
Kyle Wallace, a senior guard number ten tie Shamet being a senior guard number 13 Tuesday Hammersley number 28 he's a sophomore Jordan Anderson a forward senior and Deshawn Cooper a forward a junior.
And we take a look at Eagles landing their starting lineup brought to you by Regions Bank and it's time to expect more depth there you see Eric was then we featured him Trevon Joseph he's a senior guard Chris Davenport a senior forward Isaiah Dennis senior forward and Desmond Ringer a senior forward.
All right, Herbert.
Herb White unlike your kids to success brought to you by tax G Learn more earn more.
Well I'm sitting has got to have a great game he usually does for Columbia but he's really got to have one tonight against this talented Eagles landing team and they've got to rebound the ball because Eagles landing will crash the boards with three guys and they got the talent to do it.
And again the keys for Eagles landing TSG the sponsor learn more and more Yep don't let Dean beat you so they're going to concentrate on him.
They figure if they can shut him down, they got a good chance to win and they got to deal with the pressure of playing in the first state championship for a team from Henry County.
Okay, There you have it.
A referee or officiating crew here tonight, Roy Lee Honeycutt, Mark Couch and John Woods, the great crew.
And we get you ready for our final game on what has been an outstanding day of basketball here on GPB.
It will be the for a state championship for the boys here from the making coliseum the auditorium and center plex.
And we are underway.
It is controlled by Columbia that is the aforementioned jam set game close to the top of the horn, tied up those on the right side.
Touchdown, Warren.
They go down low and the basket is up blocked out of bounds So it go over to Eagles landing there you see coach Sanders returning home Herbalife after appearing to make an area tough to do follow a legend but he's done it successfully so far The live shot by Davenport will go the other way.
Champs have been struggling, struggles with the goods which was the timeline here wants a three pointer and he was fouled there you see scrub Yes Wake up early enjoy speaker play.
It was a very entertaining.
It was of course they come in here the top seeded team winners of 18 straight hailing from region 422 and four coming in and what an outstanding job Coach Breaux has done.
Okay.
We see they're trying to do things, it looks like to me.
In other words, their man to man and Shamsi Dean and they're also man demanding the other guard and looks like the three interior players are playing zone.
So you'll see a triangle in two, three interior guys playing a basic triangle zone, man to man on the two guards.
Let's see how that works out.
The clock malfunction.
So the officiating crew talking it over and finding out what get it, there is a foul.
They called it on a wrong number.
It is on Isaiah Dennis defense.
He's a great athletic guard.
He's going to give game fits.
So Sam sustain the problem up in the corner going straight down the lane for Lance right to get it to go with the Sean Cooper they first blood the Eagles at Columbia but they shot the ball for four on the floor retained by Columbia and they go the other way the chances their penetrating backs up.
That's Kyle Wallace launching a jumper and it goes out of bounds.
So the ball will go to the Eagles landing.
So nothing early on.
Solid, even easy layup down the middle.
A moment to go deal.
The problem sometimes when you play a jump defense if you haven't played it a lot during the year, may not know your assignments as well as you need to show the answer to see how long coached up sticks with this.
If they start giving easy shots against that, trying to explain to our audience what a junkie thinks is when we call up a triangle, a Well, you know, you get variation.
Sometimes you just play one guy man to man.
That's usually a box of water.
Down here, we see the offensive foul play on Ringer.
Yeah, with the elbow now two by one.
Yes.
So you can either play a box of one dive in, one with one man playing man to man defense, the other four playing zone.
This one looks like they're playing a triangle and two, there's definitely both guards, man to man and play in a zone with the three interior players.
It's kind of a tricky defense, so let's see if it works.
Jam City or Coach Roll it out top to nothing early on here and make it That's worn.
That's Wallace.
Wallace.
Let's see.
Working against Trevor and Joseph on the runner and then this tap up no good still control by Wallace goes down inside and out of the show for the second basketball tonight Ad for nothing.
Watch from the corner Isaiah Dennis is no good Columbia with the basketball moving and ahead and a run in the lane and lane and up in and Columbia playing like a veteran team that they are doing well like they've been there before WHISTLE six left by the middle lane and out of control was Eric Gordon, the junior.
He's going to get into a shot through the last Columbia basket.
Just a nice dish for defense there just a little bit more play defense as we say turned and let him go right past.
That was Keyshawn on and the foul was on COOPER.
He's getting an early foul trouble.
35 made a free throw here to break the ice over the 32nd opportunity was good and Ingles landing on the board 6 to 1 five vertical in the opening period.
Maurice Rivers, a junior coming in the basketball game right now and he'll trigger the inbounds underneath the basket eight for 16 he's working against Dennis on the screen goes down low on the cut and that was a late shot by Jordan Anderson Great hands for the fifth Nice catch and shoot Reverend Joseph by Trevon Joseph six three now 447 left in the opening quarter Drive on the baseline and sends the dame and it rolls on a rebound controlled by Columbia splitting the defense as Wallace looks for a man down low And Anderson he's tied up on this shot by Rivers is rejected He goes landing on the bus stop down the lane and he is mugged and going right to the hole was Chris Davenport, the seed up and down.
Take a look and see it about two or three blocks on it.
There's a last one that's going to be tough, getting shots off in there for Columbia.
He was it with a lot of height and a lot of athletes.
And not only they play defense, they get out on the break and they can finish.
They get some high rises to Jordan.
Anderson is called on the foul ball and Davenport and nails.
It will get another opportunity.
That's not an airball against the University of Kentucky.
One night in Athens on the first shot late in the game made the second.
And that's very tough after you shoot an airball.
Speaking of Kentucky and Georgia, and how did the Bulldogs do tonight?
Understand their record is a little by your AP.
If it's not a joke, they were up 12 or 13 late, I believe so Let's hope they pulled it out.
Six five now and big late players.
And I got to say, if I'm going to fall for the dorms, I got to mention the gentle reminder.
Last time, George, you said market stalls, you saw it on the tip and no time on the clock.
I can imagine what our good friend was The room on the call for that would have been a signature win for Bryant.
Get ready.
Do you think Boston take on Boston College?
The Yellow Jackets.
They get ready for the SCC tournament in Greensboro.
Great for we are at our break courtesy of the commander Steve Graham 358 and the first Columbia up one just take back here and make him get a lovely shot of the Columbia ego cheerleaders right now did you know GPB sports is a Facebook page.
You bet you check us out and let us be part of the GPB sports family.
See behind the scenes pictures, get info about high school sports around the state like us, and you will begin to know, of all things us school sports.
If you go back and do that again with a little energy.
Well, Claire Simms put a mandate.
She put a mandate, told us we got to get at least, what, 10,000 likes and results.
It was right behind her and Marky Mark signed off on it.
So before we ended up here making this weekend, we're going to have 10,000 likes there.
White boy, you know, probably drove a thousand folks to it right there, I tell you.
How could they turn that down?
And Columbia started off with a60 run and is playing.
It has kind of settled in.
They've scored the last five field goal shooting so far.
Columbia's three for 12, the Eagles land two for six.
But it doesn't matter because we're just about knotted up.
We're getting inbounds.
Eagles landing first in White and Columbia and Blue went on the Miss by Moe Green, and the following was by Desmond Ringer.
Was it inside scoring three goals, landing three senior, a senior, getting it done.
You see the rebound disparity in Eagles landing right now, the Golden Eagles and they lead right here seven six early on spotting up for a jumper was Mo Rivers rebound take taken down and pushing it up the court was there for the black it out for no great now the world's got something is it he's got to go back to the lane going to middle Tennessee he's going 96302 in the opening period right handed and he's getting his shot rejected.
His chance had been missed.
Columbia will retain possession take a look at of those basket boy what do we see Just watch as he can create his own shot Just a quick power dribble and up with it Good looking shot is six foot five and he can play guard and jams it.
Being going in there among the trees.
It's going to be tough this evening.
But one of the only dogs out there now after a nine run round up gets Isaiah Dennis pretty strong on trying to work his man up on the screen.
BLOCK it out Darius up top.
That's Bryce Brown on the miss and the rebound controlled by the Golden Eagles for them over the green green backs out with a ten second line cousins split the defense The ball is loose in all the floor scramble still on the floor Players diving for it and they alternate possession but we have a timeout with a timeout called the 32nd time.
A little too much dribble there by Mo Green.
Pass it get into your offense And I'll tell you what, I hope Sessions gets out on a fast break here before this game is over because he's a kid that can absolutely elevate and throw it down at about six foot two.
So we'll watch for that one coming up sometime during the game.
But again, Eagles landing has settled in here.
Maybe some early jitters.
Good.
Quite settle into their triangle and was a little bit of a jump defense but it's it's solidified now and they're making every shot back Columbia contested.
Let's look at Columbia's road to the championships brought to you by Georgia EMC lighting the way set it up for third.
Well they took care of Gilmer in the old LA Grange team who beat us in the state championship many years ago, Decatur, Mary's two good ball club, and Statesboro they took care of in the semifinals.
So Eagles landing some good teams on the way.
When we were with the basketball, they threw about three.
Columbia has missed their last eight field goal opportunities this year with their statistician Kevin Barnes.
And we have a turnover for the road to the championship Eagles landing brought to you by Georgia EMC lighting the way.
Well they beat some South Georgia teams.
Albany Perry West over and there's the big win that tells you something they beat south Atlanta pretty good and south Atlanta has beaten Columbia twice this year.
So that gives you a little bit of an idea what Columbia is up against.
Jordan session with the follow 11 six now Eagles landing starting to pull away a minute 27 in the opening period.
Columbia already one turnover here the miss by Dean following up this is rivers still with the ball was rivers more penetration by Dean jumps and let's go and tell him that's why Auburn likes him a whole lot 11 eight.
The lead now by Eagles landing at three the miss session and Columbia with the rebound under a minute to go 44 seconds to be exact penetration by Ben teardrop up glass and in 1110 Earth Columbia within one nice two buckets by Dean and we mentioned he's going to have to have a big game for Columbia for them to stay in this one Oregon over the session it's Davenport, the entry pass in the word him back in his opponent down low and a whistle.
Nice face up to close by.
Irvin for Mo Rivers, his first team's third and Eric Gordon at the line.
First up at Trinity is up an end from the has gone to his own defense now with three.
They're going to have to really find somebody to block out tough to rebound out of that defense so he's really got to concentrate on his film allowed them one shot two measurables on Auburn second one up and give it to change.
Eagles making their fourth consecutive championship game appearance session did have a little screen and his first great they're taking turns on Dean run and different people at him out We're going to inbounds Wallace and the team trying to beat the clock right now isolation step back lets it go off the iron and that's the end of the first quarter.
First quarter 33 to play.
The officials are consulting after the clock had run out, I believe, contact contact after the clock ran out.
So that will mark the conclusion of the first quarter 1310 with the score Eagles landing 13 at Columbia, ten but ready to start the second quarter and make him have to be is important messages on Georgia Public Broadcasting tips get a look at the crowd here making this very enthusiastic crowd Columbia and Eagles riding on the way started a second join in on the GPB sports chat during the game go to GPB, talk with the live basketball banner, top of your screen, jump in with hundreds and thousands of high school basketball fans in Georgia and across the country and across the world.
Chat about your favorite high school basketball team.
Let's hear from you, Georgia.
Let's hear from the United States and let's hear from you the world.
Let's hear from you, Herbalife.
Well, let's hear from Johnny Nelson.
There we go.
Jon Nelson.
He's always stepping on.
I got size 13, so I can do that.
Herb spent some time in both huddles here.
Let's start off with Eagles landing Eagles landing coach crumbs.
Pretty happy with how things have gone with the three point lead.
Biggest thing he's concerned about, he just wants to run motion offense a little more just to keep Columbia's defense on their heels a little bit.
Going to the flip side, for Columbia, listening to Coach Sandifer, his biggest concern is defensively.
He wants his guys to box out more to keep Eagles landing from getting those second chances that gave them that three point advantage off the first 8 minutes.
Good stuff.
Jon Nelson, Good stuff.
Eagles landing has hit one out of their last four field goal opportunities.
Columbia hit two out of their last five after missing ten straight.
Well, they both have five field goals.
Columbia has taken 21 shots to do it.
Eagles landing much more efficient, five out of 12.
Neither team has hit a three pointer yet.
I'm sitting with four people with four to lead Columbia.
We're going with five.
And a ringer with Florida lead Eagles landing 13, ten seven at the start of the second here, making Delta irate.
Jon Nelson and Herb White backing his opponent down low and throwing it up.
And no good was Chris Davenport.
It's Columbia and getting inside negotiating down low and a failed opportunity with Mo Rivers, Columbia retains possession the dipsy do move by him goes awry rebound controlled by Eagles landing They push it up the floor and drive in the lane That's ringer nice move and a nice move by the big fella that softly got the kind of iron on that 115 ten Now the lead at five has swelled in time for Eagles landing the top seeded team in four heading in winners of 18 straight back you got it right now it's Kyle Wallace.
where are the other points going to come from if they shut down Dean, A crossover move lets it go no good.
The follow attempt by Mo Rivers goes no good.
Illegals landing with the rebound and driving straight ahead with a wild shot.
That was one of them right winger again the three chances at it, you're going to hit one out of three chances of any chance 1710 Now he goes landing on a big run, a 17 for one with the work on his right.
And after the steal in the open floor.
I tell you Dennis, I watch on Fox he had his head up around the rim a few times and he couldn't get his clear path to the basket.
But watch this athletic move and Keyshawn Warren defending it jumped over.
Yes.
Keyshawn Warren, Dennis a senior six for the year he can really elevate to come out of the Eagles landing lead.
That'll make it 810 downs.
The quickest leader that I got entering the basketball game for Columbia is Deshawn Cooper, the junior.
Isaiah Dennis again squares up and lets it loose.
I don't make the lead nine our biggest lead right now at 1910, 632 until they have an eight over run right now by the Golden Eagles fans the you're right here if they got guys running at him very difficult good dribble penetration well they're all helping to lock him down right they've come out of the triangle in two and gone straight man to man But they are every time Dean tries to go to the basket, they're getting help on him.
And somebody else from Columbia is going to have to step up and score some points for the Golden Eagles to stay in this game.
Been working against Dennis kind of rubbing off on the screen, gets the penetration, launches it and the rebound and the ball control and you saw him in his own staff that was Isaiah Dennis with the Hawks and this latest low to it.
1121 Jeff, by the way, you saw the defense a minute ago and they just swarmed as the ball went to the middle.
And we'll go to a break and hops is right.
549 approaching halftime Eagles Eagles landing with an 11 point spread.
We'll be right back in Macon after these very important words of the great G. Beebe.
Gerald long ago jell o Mr. Good guy Trevor 549 until halftime.
Herb, you've talked about defense.
Let our audience see what you're talking about.
Well, here you go again.
They went straight man to man, but look at him swarming the ball, creating the turnover and man, they get the ball up, one pass, two passes and he is Dennis is six foot tall.
And he threw that down like he was seven foot tall.
You know, he reminds me of we had a chance to see him last year.
Woodfield Academy.
Mr. Kenny Game city games, now a Georgia bulldog.
I love him.
Great athlete.
You're right.
Got those hops, Second chance points 10 to 4 eagles landing right now.
And that big part of that is due to the fact right now they have that 11 point lead at 21 to 10.
What we talked about that is one of the keys of the game that Columbia High School was going to have to take care of their defensive hoard.
And easier said than done when you've got a big, talented team like Eagles Land and follow in their shot.
So Columbia is just going to have to find a way to score.
And somebody has got to help Sam Smith out.
But right now it's looking like a very, very difficult task.
Desmond Reneau right now, solid game for Eagles landing eight points, seven rebounds, Isaiah Bennis and so on.
The open floor has 435 until halftime 2110 the Eagles landed them on the baseline and finds Toussaint more and there was no reason why they needed that.
They needed it in a big way.
21 to 12 on the entry pass in the ringer and we have a whistle clock ringer pushed off to me.
But there is a silver lining out of the fouls on Jordan Anderson, his second over the inbounds from Davenport toward the midfield Columbia gets the rebound and that champs a dame working against Isaiah Dennis stops and gets his shot rejected.
Stop and go move.
Dennis over the seven Joseph the miss shot ringer.
Go for it.
The ball is out of bounds off a ringer.
So it goes to Columbia.
Let's see the block champs at Dade again going inside among those great athletes and leaper to the eagles land and has and it's just tough going and that's the length of Davenport really disrupted that shot Columbia having a tough time getting in their offense offensively too.
Kyle Wallace again rejected the right of Bolden of the golden Eagles really hurting them but they get it right by chance It's been a jumper.
No good follow up.
No good The rebound is controlled and fought for by Wilbur gets it the ringer back to Irving up ahead to Isaiah Bennis lands a lame shot off glass no good rebound by Davenport struggles in between two defenders is rejected stays with it and does not go just relentless on the glass that here you see it once again they're long, they're athletic and they just pound the board.
They send three guys every time and then down on defense, you get Davenport and you got the ringer just way back in the lane.
They're not even Gardiner, man.
When they come in to the head of the circle were on the wing.
They just stayed in the lane and daring Columbia to shoot, and they're just dominating inside the paint.
And they lead by nine.
The biggest lead has been 1130.
See Ringer just staying down low in the lane.
Whatever coming out of there, whenever we have a show, this thing, it's somebody with him but he's able to pick through a great point here 21 for now.
Well I don't care how many shots in the block.
He's got to keep putting them up there to keep Columbia in some kind of contention.
And then free pass is defended.
Well, you got a foul injury show or not.
It's his first, the team's fifth with a look at Kari Sandiford and making native police.
Phil McCrary retired after 27 years.
I thought McCrary might be happy he's not coaching against this team based on his guns and he almost reached from outside the lane then and out again.
We can't say enough about eagles landing in their lives.
They are very long.
Well, they're not only long.
They have the athletic ability to do something here, but they do steal and nobody knows where they can move.
And taking it off is at a lead back equaling the biggest lead of the night at 1125 to 14 Dame Drive and scoops it up and in off and dribble penetration back the other way Eagles landing pass Davenport down low the ringer over scoring it will in the paint right now and there's very little looks like the Columbia can do about bell ringer gets low on the block and he freezes you then it's automatically been again a struggle after dribble penetration and a scramble for the basketball and it goes out of bounds and he's awesome.
Let's watch that dunk by Davenport on the baseline look at it moves through reaches from about four feet away and throws it down is a stat for you Herb like 20 of 27 points and the 27 points by Eagles landing have come in the paint.
Well, you keep going to the well as long as you can get water out of it, coaching it to middle mark and still have time.
Mark Harmon and company standing by the missed jumper by Trevon Joseph Senior Bowl and it goes out of bounds Well plays over there Coach Glaze was wondering why we're shooting from the three point line when we're score and every time we go inside and I'm wondering the same thing.
All right, Columbia, right back the other way.
I was territorial with the basket.
It's 27 day team.
We need to stop and go down and score again and get this thing down to six or seven point ballgame before the half.
And it looks a lot different.
Like I said, Mark Harmon, Claire Simms standing by at halftime launching a baseline jumper and knocking it down was Jordan Section 2918.
So much so the stop we can trade baskets, especially when you're trailing by double digits.
James had been trying to work his man Mo Green on a screen Drini going to have none of it and a passing lane is Joseph ahead of the pack off the glass and no good Columbia with the rebound the other way jams it dame spins gets clotheslined and we get a foul a kid is tough he has no fear in him No quit no fear.
I mean, he will drive amongst the trees and he's doing that tonight.
Well, he's going to the SEC.
He better be ready for the contact number.
I tell you, I have been watching those games from my seats right at court and the SCC is some rough basketball.
You play, you know well it's I barely recognize the game that blow your well I'm telling you it is it's gotten so physical I think they're going to have to do something about Robin Joseph on the foul his first rule entering the basketball game for Columbia will be what's called the Alex Smith 29 and 19 Columbia going to a little four foot pressure no pressure right now and he goes landing show no fear.
They break it.
That is across the timeline Isaiah Dennis in the corner possession 25 picks to go he goes landing with a ten point lead All biggest lead has been 11 five in the lane and scooped up and in and a follow off of the word unless somebody might agree with him and may have called somebody that net pull on their cell phone to get that tip in some kind of violation there still still stands at 29 to 19 4 seconds to go three two ball on the floor.
And that's going to put an end to the first half with the score 29, the 19 Eagles landing with a ten point lead.
Our biggest lead has been 11 points on our way to our John Nelson is going to be trying to get a hold of close of the coach from.
Let's go over to Nellie right now.
John Nelson here.
The heck Coach Blake Riley grabs a little sip.
You definitely are in that two thirds of the points that you've gotten so far in the paint here in the first half juice.
Yeah, we all do.
That's our philosophy is get a lot of threes.
We missed a couple of them, some to get the ball into the paint.
And Columbia has always been great defensively.
They know your strengths, they're trying to take them away.
Taj's himself, he's made some incredible shots, but we're going to keep trying to bang him now.
Look.
All right, thanks for your time.
Good luck in the second half.
Let's get to the best seat in the house and Mark Harmon for our age.
Thank you very much, John.
We're getting ready for the halftime show here on GPB.
We are at the half of the Baker Coliseum of the boys for a state championship game, Eagles landing in Columbia.
Well, coming up at the we'll talk to both principals.
We'll also have stats and highlights.
And there were a lot of highlights, lots of reminders for you.
Eagles landing lead, the 2919 as we head to the halftime break.
Why from Macon we're back on GPB.
Good on the.
Welcome back to JB's coverage of the GHC Boys and Girls State High School Basketball Championships live from the Macon Coliseum right now where the half of the boys for a state championship game he goes landing, leading Colombia 29 to 19 right now.
And joining us right now is the assistant principal at the Columbia High School, Nicole Shaw.
And, Nicole, thanks for coming on.
First off, how excited are all the fans about the girls game?
So excited there was so excited.
There was a vow that the the winning of that game I got.
No one is falling out the stands.
We were so excited.
But they're still trying to calm down from that win and hoping that this will be a win for us, too.
All right.
Well, you know, the boys program has been outstanding.
They won three in a row.
They're going for four in a row.
So anything can happen in this second half.
Talk about the history that you guys have there.
Columbia State basketball teams.
Columbia is well known for its academic and Apple athletic and for the for the guys this year, especially the seniors to come away with a win this year, it will be phenomenal for them.
But the simple fact that they would have won a championship four years in a row.
So they have a very we we produced student athletes.
So, you know, not only do we have good athletes out here, they are good academically in the classroom as well.
And that's very important.
Very important.
Let's play.
Are you smarter than your students?
A question from our Today in Georgia History project.
Dominique Wilkins played for UGA and the Atlanta Hawks.
He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame on April 3rd, 2004.
What was his famous nickname throughout the basketball community?

Here you go.
Late for that bell, Willis.
And congratulations on the girls win.
Good luck here in the second half.
The boys coming on the meet.
All right.

I'm not sure I'll practice that.
But anyway, we're at halftime of the boys for a state championship game between Columbia and Eagle's Landing.
And joining us now is the half as the principal of Eagle's Landing High School.
Gabe Cleary, thanks for coming on and thanks for having me.
You were telling us that academics is a big, big thing at Eagle's Landing High School.
So let's see what the athletes.
Yes, sir.
We've been on America's best schools for years, America's most challenging schools.
Two years.
Our mock trial has won three straight region championships.
And they're going to state on March 16th, compete for the state championship, AP Access and Support school Last six years, you know, we had the governor visit us two years ago for being one of the top increases and graduations rate.
So we have a lot of great academic things going on at Eagle's Landing High School, AP STEM Achievement School.
We're very proud of what the hard work our kids do.
How much fun has it been this basketball season?
Because your team is very talented.
This is an amazing team.
Four years ago I knew we were going to be good when I was walking around at freshman orientation and I'm shaking hands and looking up at kids.
So you're a big guy.
But I was hoping we'd be we'd be good.
But this is a very special team Dez ringer.
He's going to South Carolina next year.
Freshman year, he was bringing kids to the study lab, making sure they studied.
This is Eric Wortham.
You know what he's come back from last year.
He wasn't able to play in the Final Four due to a heart issue.
And I and this has been a mission for this team to be here against Columbia again in the final four, of course, in the championship this year.
And they're performing very well.
It's a great group of kids.
All right.
Time now to play.
Are you smarter than your students?
A question from our Today in Georgia History project.
And your question is, after winning his campaign for the governor, Jimmy Carter was on the cover of this magazine with the caption Dixie whistles a different tune was at a The Dixie Whistler Monthly, B, Future Presidents Journal, C, Time magazine, or D, The Plain Dealer, I would guess Time magazine He was Man of the year or two once or twice.
Thanks so much for coming on.
Good luck in the second half.
Thank you.
All right.

Welcome back.
Making coliseum, making center blocks, getting ready for the third quarter of the boys quarter final Eagles landing up ten over Columbia, 2919 here with the coach coach saying it for let's talk about things.
Starting off offensively.
You knew Taj was going to get his but no one's helping him out.
Well, we wanted to play off the touch just penetration.
You start it right there the beginning got a couple of quick plays easy lay off and that's what we want to do.
Do we want to draw there, you know, try to counter their height?
And we did it and we got away from them.
I allowed them to make a run.
And then defensively, I know that boxing out and giving them second chance points and transitions, but it's driving you crazy.
It's driving me crazy and it's really simple to block out.
Don't give them second shot.
They're too big or too good to do that.
If we can do that a little bit better in this half, we may be able to get back in this thing.
All right.
Thanks for your time.
Feel like second half.
I thank you.
Sent it back over to the guys.
Kyle, in the second half, Gil and Herb, take it away.
All right.
Thank you.
Interesting points brought out by Coach Sandifer for, you know, he talked about the fact points in the paint and the length of eagles landing really hurting him.
I really thought he brought up a great point about Taj being able to the dribble penetration they wanted to play off of that So far, not so good.
Let's take a look at some of the first half highlights of this basketball game right now or what he was early on.
That was I think that might have been the first basket of the game.
One of the first two of their shots had been getting in the lane.
There wasn't much of that, though.
And here's one of them with a nice quick dribble enough.
And here's a highlight with Isaiah.
Take it to the rack and another slam.
Take a look at the first half stats.
Herbalife, what jumps out at you?
Well, that field goal percentage, 33 shots.
Columbia is getting up shots but they're not quality shots.
Everybody's got a hand in their face.
They're shooting over somebody long, so they're shooting a bad percentage.
I'm really amazed at the rebounds or even at 19 but a lot of the offensive rebounds for Eagles landed and that's that's a lot of where this leads come from.
Our halftime stats brought to you by Farm Bureau Georgia we say thank you 2919 and we take a look at the leading scorers right now.
Desmond Ringer ten points closing in on the double double ten points and eight rebounds.
Another SCC bound player going to South Carolina.
Carolina really a well played and only five turnovers I think for a Columbian three four Eagles landing And just like in the first game we did very few turnovers so some excellent basketball it poor shooting because of the defense we're going to South Carolina I think Fred Martin truly do a great job up there at Columbia.
Look at the glass as Dennis continues to work it relentlessly and gets it off glass.
There's two more offensive rebounds right there.
It's granddaddy here tonight, 31 to 19, the layup now 12.
And that is our biggest lead.
Gil Tyree, Herb White and John Nelson off final game of four who will join the likes of Gordon Lee Wilkinson County the ladies of Columbia's will be Columbia.
The boys are Eagles landing right now looking like it's Eagle's landing 31 to 19 715 in the third, the missed opportunity by Columbia and the Golden Eagles from McDonough bringing it the other way that's worth it to my man Isaiah Dennis trying to rub off Wallace on the screen.
Nice and low, nice dish and warm and talented.
He was a ringer.
Herb White.
Are you kidding me?
I got this between the three defenders.
That's really nice.
Ball handler there buys a three year run man to man game.
COOPER on the foul the opportunity for the ringer to complete the end one and the lead now 1433 19 Our biggest lead of the night Everything that Coach Sandefur was concerned about is reared its ugly head here.
The start of the second half, the dribble penetration that's been to a whole lot more of that.
They need some defensive stops and some defensive rebounds to get back in this game.
Let's see if they can get him out.
That 12 when they get the rebound off the list by Davenport, they go the other way across the timeline.
Double rings.
That's fine.
Weaves around dipsy do move real good tempo feel good Rebound control by Davenport ahead of him Dennis and he's pushed out of bounds and we have a whistle on a bad tumble by Dennis but he gets up quickly he's getting physical a little Jimmy right now I don't know if Dennis is going to college again.
Was on the verge of a throw.
All of of his side with anybody.
I don't see anything about it, but he's going to make somebody pretty good little college guard when you walk up and watch.
I've asked to do a lot of scoring on this team.
They have so many weapons.
Davenport will trigger the inbounds and that's where he's headed to South Carolina.
Gives it to Dennis, who has the ball stolen away Columbia with number nine on the penetration, and all of them responded for the foul.
His second see as I try to make sure to given that ball up he had his teammate open over there he tried to take it himself so he needs to make both his free throws because he had Bryce Brown open on the run.
Dane initiated contact on the play was over line with 552 in the third, first up and the good thing started here tomorrow.
I know he's been with 13 and the lead now 1033 to 23.
As I said, we get things started here at noon tomorrow.
The great folks with adapted sports Tommy score out of grandpa Doc Swearengen he's a great program, great athlete.
Well I tell you what, there's one thing I'll be proud of as I leave drug testing down the road is let's get a wheelchair game on television.
That it's been a great thing for those kids and their families.
And I know you were big on that.
And to on the foul.
The story and one of them connects on the basket the lead now 12 3523 take lead has been 14 and this basketball game for the Florida state championship reeling around and easy and lofting a little eight footer Keyshawn 3525 513 and a third three is good.
It's just too easy for them because they're playing with a lot of confidence.
Gil 38 to 25 Dame backs up, launches a three to take out it big to answer that basket 38 to 27 camped out there three point land was Trevon Joseph Melson followed up by Chris Davenport playing above the rim 40 to 27.
Ingles landed Kyle Wallace's shot gets all three and the golden Eagles with the rebound with the lead of 13 and trying to add on good good dangerous start ball game here Gil Columbia's got to make a stand here not let this thing get get much more separation it could get out of hand more of them working off the screen by right now he lets it loose no good Columbia with numbers and the dunk Sean or the thought he got fouled he might have had a case 4229 stop so you're right back in the three ball and an airball by Davenport so you're down 11 with 344 to go Coach Ingles line is going to take a time out.
Coach Trump wants to talk it over.
He doesn't want to see this lead evaporate before the end of this quarter.
4229 344 marking the third how they got here.
And of course we talked about that early Columbia beat states burrow and Eagles landing beat south Atlanta and they're on their way to a possible championship and quite a we'll be right back with this holiday season number three of Football Fridays in Georgia.
Join us Friday evening, August 30th, be all Access best pre-game show.
We kick it off at North Gwinnett High for the double header with the national High School Gridiron Challenge from Ringgold of Valdosta, from Savannah to Lagrange.
We got you covered.
That's for football.
Friday's in Georgia only on GPB.
It's gonna be exciting.
It kicks off August 30th, August 30th, Hawaii kicking off Friday's in G eight all year round.
Georgia Public Broadcasting and bringing you the best in high school sports.
And this is still anybody's ballgame.
Yeah we got 11.45 to go.
But I'll tell you what, this is the most talented high school team.
I mean, Milton High School last year was a very, very talented high school team and Eagles landed right same way.
Every position.
They just got a talented player where you look, you get a look at some of the crowd here down at Macon.
And of course, this being the revenge game for them losing at Columbia, Columbia always like we talked about up top, these two know a whole lot about each other at different classifications.
But for some reason, Columbia's always been in the way of those guys.
Well, Columbia's had some great teams with some great talent over the years, no doubt about it.
You know, Travis, Leslie and and just all the great Brandon Morris went to the University of Georgia last year.
Dante Williams, they've had some great players, but, you know, Eagles landing.
It's one thing to have a talented team going against you.
It's another thing to have a talented and motivated team going against you.
Hey, Steve Graham, Steve Graham.
Let's open up the microphone.
His story.
And I might let John Nelson kind of piggyback on that up or what Herbalife talked about.
Malik Well, you know, you talk about want to in a lot of times Herb knows all about want to being an athlete.
There's always that glass ceiling that we talk about.
You keep banging your head against it and banging your head against and it comes down to want to as to whether or not you want to break through that glass ceiling once and for all and figure out that those guys are actually mortal.
They're not the immortals that you thought they were.
All those titles on the wall don't mean anything, especially tonight with Eagle's landing up 11 is well past the halfway point of the third.
There you go.
And this could be a breakthrough game for the kids, for McDonough.
Well, I think when they when they punished South Atlanta not long ago in the south, Atlanta had beaten Columbia twice.
I think Eagles land and got a pretty good idea that they could come in here and compete.
It was definitely and what a job coach really goes over there with that group.
Yes, he does.
He got another favors on that roster to the rejection by Eagles landing and we go the other way splitting the lane It's Dennis and he lost control of it and it's regained by the Eagles of Columbia of DeKalb County one of the many DeKalb County teams in this tournament.
And a scramble out in front and some Samson did not happy as they left him alone when he wanted to go and listen.
This is correct in front of him.
He was being double team.
Somebody has got to come give him a hand there.
And the foul was on Dennis, his second look at two rejections, more rejections.
And I used to get when I went out in the night life.
Yeah, right.
Okay.
I threw it away, You would have man Launching an air was Danzig Dame.
Well, the crowd, Dean says he got the ball was tip it, but they're not going to give it to him.
And I think I'm starting to see a little frustration possibly from chance.
And then it's tough going one on five all night long.
That's what he's been doing.
We've got a whole lot of help If we're talking about John Nelson about to go to the playoffs.
They have multiple penetration, but they've just not been able to do so from 336 in the third quarter, 40 to 29, the aforementioned dame launches a 15 footer and it goes from 4231 dame with 17 down.
Right extended is Davenport inside.
So I had Dennis and lefty southpaws always a problem.
So if he's not a South.
Yeah but he's funny.
But he did it with the left.
He's and he's ambidextrous.
There you go.
That south is a problem.
He's already at 17.
Right.
41.
62.
There you go.
Until we clear the third quarter.
42 to 31 on a piggyback off of what Grayson was talking about.
You know, this broadcast being watched around the world while in Germany when say hello to all our all our fans worldwide.
A lot of people watched us.
And during the football season in Liberia, of course, Alvin Kamara family hails from the country of Liberia.
And what do talking to your son?
Robert Kim teaches family from Africa Eagles landing right now.
Well, the Eagles land has not been able to 20 points in the paint.
They haven't been able to extend this lead.
It's been stuck on 11 for quite a while.
So Columbia's been able to hang around if they did get to it, you know, a two or three basket run here.
Yeah.
Put a little pressure on the Golden Eagles and see what they can do in their first championship game with a little pressure.
Well, you always want to close in a flurry.
Well, so far they haven't been pressured and they've had the lead and it makes it easy for the team.
And they generate a nice penetration by Kyle at a make it 42 to 33.
I need some stops and let's see if they can get him talking about Columbia Golden Eagles of Eagles landing trying to burn some of that clock nice entry pass inside to winger and the miss and we go the other way Columbia on how many run that chance have been off glass and look all right that's what I'm talking about you talking about him on the run leading up down to seven.
Another stop here.
And I've got to play properly looking for time.
But they're not going to go here.
It's just a miscommunication on defense right there and left.
Going for Desmond right now.
Go down the steam.
Dean has ten points in this in this quarter and he has the basketball right now.
Nice move.
And then nifty move for Dave led to take a play off.
I can guarantee you I was Keyshawn.
All right.
Another stop here.
You got it down to a five point ballgame.
Then we got something I want to clear out for Isaiah.
Dennis, we're going against Wallace.
11 seconds to go at the head of the horn, dribbles off his feet, still retains, goes in the corner, splits up long jumper no good possibility in Columbia did was Trevon Joseph the miss and that's the end of the third quarter but the Columbia Eagles have climbed back in it It's a dunk fest here and make him and one quarter away from bringing a championship to McDonough are the golden eagles but Columbia says wait a minute we'll be right back at Macon as start the fourth after this back here in Macon, 44 to 37, John John Nelson doing the game during the game and 44 to 37.
That's why they're all cheering.
And this was last year against Drew tickets through here.
Yeah this is Columbia winning their third straight right here and we called that one and pretty impressive win for the Eagles last year and just get it done you know you know John Nelson after we get through what they accomplished last year in Columbia, you get you got to really take a look at John Nelson.
You know, he leaves fans.
I have no earthly idea what you're talking about.
Well, this was the last shot by Columbia last year to get the victory.
It's a good thing he did.
His wife married him before she saw him do that.
She does.
I have no rhythm.
What are you talking about?
I was going to talk about how the most championships that DeKalb County has ever had in one year is four, and they can surpass that this year.
Yeah.
Do you guys want to talk about my dancing skills or lack thereof?
And I have no earthly idea what you're talking about.
Well, I'll tell you what.
If they're going to win a fourth title, they're going to have to bow their backs right now on the defensive end and get some and put it in champs.
It means hand and let him go down there and try to create some offense because if they can't stop, it's the Golden Eagles team.
They're not going to win this ballgame.
How critical?
The first 2 minutes, Very critical.
Okay.
Got to show them that you still got the will to win this thing.
And if you can get underway here in the fourth for the guys have done a good job for struggling with it.
Excellent.
Where you go over there and it goes to show courtesy of Jordan Anderson playing a great defense in a half court.
So the ball goes over to the Eagles of Columbia trailing by 744 to 37.
The big man in that third quarter was that gentleman Chance, a dame top two car Wallace champs, The then ten points in that third quarter he has 19 out 731 to go nice entry pass fail to make the basket was to Sean Cooper I'm sure he wants to have that one as he goes and stumbling and just just barreling to the defenders and playing out of control with Trevor Joseph.
Does that run a step in the draw, that charge?
Whoever it was, it was a nice play.
And boy, you're right, that was a big miss down the other end for Columbia and the chippy underneath and.
We haven't had a three point shot by either team tonight.
Gil, I don't believe a big one.
If Columbia could not bring down.
Unlike Wilkinson and Wilcox, they were here with a big ten Columbia coach saying if he would like to cut this lead down to five, they had a big third quarter with that run.
Biggest lead has been 14 here tonight spotting up and lots of getting counted it bingo I was on three.
I threw that one up from 44 to 40 game.
Interesting Now and that's why Trevon Joseph and the Eagles with numbers another three on it stays stuck Well you have a small hey no we got a four point ball game and let's see that's Addison daddy Here we go.
Well, it was a nice pass by Dwayne.
He made the right play and found the open man.
And now we're going to find out if Eagles landing is going to feel the pressure.
They haven't really been pressed all night long.
Now it's a four point game in the state championship game.
Let's see how they respond, though.
WALLACE with the open look and it got stuck since the day you are.
That's two laughs.
Yes, two blown chippies on a608.
A four point lead at one time was at 14.
It's Trevon Joseph with the double team because for sure I'll say it then as he's right in front us and I was at a point here at the center blocks and they're going to be content just to spread the floor and make Columbia come out and pick them up all over and then going to take it to the hoop, opening up those lanes.
Dennis Miller Drive or class from the miss a rebound control by Anderson he goes on the post a great move by Dean and the fall away no good the rebound by Anderson or Dean really can't win on offense Get going get the foul foul but his teammate did he initiated contact to that fellow So Davenport is first get a look at the Columbia bench.
You're right, Damien.
Great.
The contact.
Yes, he did ran into a bigger player and bounced off and a big trip down the floor here.
Go for Columbia.
And it's a big player.
The person that Desmond Rigney.
And it's so big that Columbia is going to take a timeout by 28, 37, take a trip around the great state of Georgia and Georgia, traveling from the mountains to the coast, our traveling team explodes the state's most beautiful, exciting, unique treasures.
Don't miss Georgia Traveler on GPB.
David Zaleski has one fantastic guy to watch.
He's been that show for years.
You saw him on the zip line with Mark Harmon and John Nelson.
They tried to get me to go in that thing, but I said no way.
They couldn't recruit me.
And thicker cable girl.
Sorry, That's a cheap shot.
No, no, that's lottery where they get a lot of good food on that show.
They travel all over the state of Georgia, picking up nice meals wherever they go on the news.
And again, a big trip down now for Columbia and they get a quality shot here.
Fourth quarter field goals, Columbia, one of five.
It was landing ocean for them to get the high pick that's WALLACE The penetration down low was Cooper's shot.
Alford stays with it still with it and the Miss Well Columbia's had three looks in the paint can get any of them down early but is controlled by a winger.
I had said and I said, Dennis, and they knocked it down.
And that was a big turnaround.
There.
Missed layup on one end and a conversion by the Eagles landing on the other 46 to 40 the lead the six chance that been off balance in and out staying with it is Anderson still off glass failed to connect the golden out in the open throw the ball let's go to the high fly up the lead now at eight almost a half to have here for the Columbia team.
Then the Miss and Irving got bumped and who's to say as a certainty, Right.
He does look like Kenny Gaines, same kind of body, same cocks it back and throws it down.
All six foot of him, 12 points.
Coach Crump thought he should have won the slam dunk.
I think I think Herb feels the same way.
He would have got my vote with that one, four or five to go in this basketball game.
He was landing closing in on a Florida state championship.
No need to rush now.
Give Dennis Reid's a double team.
And Ringer has a man open on the baseline and the personal Davenport and he was going to try to throw down and Jordan Anderson said that today.
Well that's smart basketball my eagles land and spread it out and pass the ball around Feel good quality Welker good sound and just what they do and the of them for the off make the first in the basketball game right now is Deshawn Cooper exiting stage left Jordan Anderson not another opportunity for Jordan caught up and in big man has got a nice stroke lead back at double digits it's headed for change now at ten I need a three here he goes on a six or the Golden Eagles.
That is not spotting up and knocking down a jumper.
And then run is Kyle Wallace.
It's 50 to 40 to 323 final period.
The Florida State Championship in Macon, Columbia, and Eagles landed in a world wide coverage state championship.
Game number ten starts at high noon tomorrow.
We want you to join us live to dance and that's that's been going on 52 to 42.
Again eagles land and just very, very confident with the basketball business can drive at will and then dish and those big guys are right there to finish night Gregory and Anderson for for the ultimate possession or give it to the golden Eagles and you start to see the look Columbia teams face it that be real difficult to get that fourth title now and what a ride it's going to be up the road above 75 to lick it out First one for Henry Kenny and 45 years forever when the screw was only six or seven years old.
Man, these guys have just really grown a homegrown program and done a great job with land and they've talked about that respect.
Make it on a whole lot of it with a win here tonight.
John okay.
What other history lesson give to give it to us as a last Henry County title class A girls Henry County High School beat Blackshear 2219 and triple overtime in 1960.
How could I forget?
You weren't born then.
Unfortunately, I was 12 years old.
And then talk about the Eagles landing program.
They were six and 18 the year before everything started to turn around in 18 win season, the first time they make the playoffs since 1990.
Then after that and 61 wins and two appearances in the semis, it's got a teleprompter down there.
It's just he he has a chip in his brain, a mike wrote chip got a chip on his shoulder.
He's always there.
Knock it off.
I dare you.
He's a good Anderson on the foul.
What a grin.
That's how we got to where we are today.
And now you know the rest of the story.
Sorry, I don't mean to interrupt, John.
Very impressive.
No doubt about it.
No doubt about it.
Right off the tip of his tongue.
And Dennis.
Yes.
Wow that's nice.
I believe a lot of the floor variety seven in the quarter Right now, Mr. Dennis has 15.
I really like his game.
I'm going to find out where he's going to school.
I may have to talk to the folks over in Athens, but they got a nice golf course down there to go slam into the way.
I'll put in a good word.
Maybe they'll let me come play.
So what?
So what are you doing?
You Let's try to get it.
Trying to get green fees reduced.
Be nice.
And a complimentary teaser, Let's take a look at some of the slams from Eagles landing as they attack the rim.
Here's Isaiah taking it in again.
Dennis That's Davenport.
Davenport, That's right there, like all four of us.
And for Dennis and Ringer, Laying along.
We got some celebrating going on now, and rightfully so.
Rightfully so.
Like I said, we get our coverage started at high noon Eastern here on GPB and GPB doors with the AT.
That's it Sports Day two of championship weekend here in Vegas.
A valiant effort by it's not over yet the valiant effort by Columbia but they're up against it right now that's for sure.
And they just run into a buzzsaw here tonight as England and very, very talented big team Eagles landing on a ten to run.
And that's the way it has ballooned.
It was down to about four.
It's now down back to 13.
The biggest lead has been 14.
Anderson struggles inside, but we have a foul and it looks like Chris Davenport and that's his second.
Yeah, that would be quite a feat.
Push ups it then when you played on three state championship teams and one to play on the fourth, not to be I don't know how many blocked shots I know that Eagles landing had eight at one point.
I'd say they're up around 12 or 14 in the ones they haven't blocked inside Beal they've intimidated because all Columbia had three or four chances inside when they got to lead that and then couldn't convert it was just because he was Landon's away from the bother and the shots inside Cooper at the line was close 11 I think it was landing with the basketball and there's a 13 point lead with 157 to go three champions as a crowd already, you know, minute 48 away from crowning a forward is five for two.
I think it was down to four.
Yes.
And 7 to 11 to run it to get a look at Coach Clay Crump Anderson on a foul his fifth hand and he out of this basketball game and getting a round of applause from police.
Columbia not used to being on his side right now.
they've been a great champion team.
But, you know, you can't win it every year.
And especially when you got a team as talented as this Eagles landing team.
Again, they put me in mind of that Milton team from last year, which was one of the most talented teams I've seen in a while?
Most definitely.
And this is tough for Coach Sandifer, who grew up here.
And look at our game.
We get it start at 3:00.
And of course I told our coverage starts really at noon, high noon with the adapted sports but girls to a championship, Laney and Wesleyan.
And then you see the boys to a championship at the 4:45 p.m. Miller Grove Southwest the cab and the girls and love that Gainesville Miller Grove that's going to be a great game at Capital four and five eight.
Yeah, Gainesville, quite a story with all the football players coming out playing.
I think all five of their starters have played in the championship football team and they, you know, they struggled early in the season because they didn't have those guys on the team and that took him a while to work.
And then once they did, they reeled off 15 or 16 straight.
Of course We know how good Miller Grove is.
I want to alert our audience.
I misspoke.
The adapted sports game will be taped tomorrow and aired on Saturday.
Thank you, Commander Steve Graham letting you know that.
So a program note as we get started here tomorrow on your screen and all those times are Eastern GPB and GPB North.
Well there it is, the story.
Columbia, one of their last 11 field goal attempts and the trip that again to the Eagles land defense.
This the team you've got to have some outside shooting to beat You're not going to take it inside a beauty.
They're playing it all night long.
You've got to have somebody stroke it from outside.
And unfortunately, Columbia just didn't have it on this squad.
And what a great story it is for Eagles landing.
You know, so many times getting here will come here as the top seed this year on a mission the whistle and a foul on.
I say that it's common sense and the use well they're going to lose a lot of talent off of this team.
They've got six going major college ships just this first foul of the night.
So Isaiah Dennis will go to the line and has 16 before they get to 17.
We don't want to depress the Eagles landing fans by talking about the guys here.
Lose it.
Let them enjoy this championship for a while and I'm sure they're going to eight in the quarter for Dennis going to get three with Ross Right And it really wasn't yeah you know Columbia is just up against this is going to be 11 they did not play a bad ball game now they've done everything they could.
They just shot a terrible percentage.
But the reason for that is because Eagles landing a great defense of their size and their athletic and they just get so many second shots with their offensive rebounding because of their athletic and size as well.
Take a look at our of the players we spotlighted early you spotlighted them being with 19 going with ten.
Yeah one of them with a very efficient game though I bet he shot over 50% from the field for the ball game and didn't force anything.
Just took it when it was there and off balance shot by Kyle Wallace and out of that was a nice move by Wallace.
He was third team champs at eight for 25 tonight and you can't blame him for shooting that many shots because he was the only guy that was going to get that many shots.
But how about getting other people involved, The game plan coming in.
Coach Sanford talked about that.
It goes from the ability to dribble penetration to play off of him.
Well, he got some of the guys shots.
They just couldn't finish third in flat in defense that you know, you get the ball in the paint.
It doesn't mean anything.
You got to go over three guys six, six, two, six, eight.
They can jump and get long arms Very, very impress also a well coached team.
You know it's it's tough to coach team with a lot of talent.
Just ask John Calipari.
Just because you have a lot of talent doesn't mean you're going to go out and win ballgames all the time.
And coach Clay Crump has done a great job getting these guys to meld their talent together as a team.
Not one guy doing trying to do too much.
Did you know GPB has, a Facebook page?
You're about to check out something like us, be part of the GPB sports family, see behind the scenes pictures, get info about high school sports around the state like US and you'll be in the know all things high school sports here in Georgia.
You know they can play any way eagles landing you look at a 13 913 3913 playoff victory over Albany okay and they come in here winners of 18 straight and have a chance to get it to 19 straight 39 to 13 playoff victory overall.
But Albany tried to shut it down.
You know, they've tried everything to beat this team and they've just risen to the occasion.
And every time and are the top seed.
Nellie, you want to add something?
It was the lowest scoring game in the modern era, 3913 since 19 eight.
I got to thank Becky Taylor at the Georgia Basketball Project, that information.
But you talk about how some teams might want to muck it up knowing that they're going to have difficulties that's what happened in the Albany game.
But as it turned out, Eagles landing obviously had the better talent, made more shots at Albany.
Did the Eagles landings, consistently played fifth and 16th.
Tonight, they're playing right at about 60.
So they're playing right after a level that they had this entire playoff run.
And again, Herb, we talked about their way and their ability just to alter the opponents shots, rebounds, points in the paint.
I think that's one thing that a statistician, Kevin Barnes, has really honed in on tonight.
Well, they're efficient at both ends of the floor.
That means that they have five or six guys that can score the basketball.
They have five or six guys who like their defense.
So it's just pick your poison with them.
They can beat you on both ends of the floor.
And but when you can do that, you're going to be a state champion and you've got to be impressive with every one of them and well coach and I said that is outstanding for us.
Davenport played well.
Take a look at the bench points in the paint.
Okay.
And we talk about Taylor.
They take 3224 Eagles wanting to get in a three John talked about right at four 5860 point mark 40 of those points have come into play they've talking about the rim yeah they need to take sleep over the score well down low and wonder if coach Crawford is going to get them some of his subs But you know 48 seconds left he only up 11.
So stranger things have happened.
You want to see John Nelson this.
We know we saw him there on the football season to come.
I was directing a band.
And the difference between doing something like that, let's see and let's see him dance, you know, And I'm going here we go.
Yes.
And you know what?
We're going to we're going to put this video on YouTube and send it to Dancing with the Stars and bring him as a wildcard entry.
Okay.
Because I'm sure they would love to see that.
That's Gangnam Style.
And it's a Gangnam Style.
Okay.
That's going to be no more dancing tonight.
Under no circumstance am I going to dance.
Well, the judges have given you an 8.6.
It's decisive.
Well, what did the Russian judge give me?
I don't know.
What?
Come on.
No Russian judge.
Give us more.
Two, four, four, five.
Somewhere in there.
The Russian judge gave you a minus two.
That's about right.
The three in difficulty was minimal.
That was Gangnam Style.
I would tell you.
It was some kind of style.
You at the ball game?
Yeah.
Lovely crowd.
Patti, I want to get a copy that I, I think.
I think she's probably hiding and he's disconnected.
The phone chains.
Phone numbers show no fourth file on Cooper.
Maybe from wedding or the wedding video or something.
Howard Ringer will be at the free throw line.
43 seconds to go in this basketball game.
And of course, earlier this year tonight, the Lady Trojans important lead over the Lady Red Devils of Randolph play, 6156.
We'll consider the Cats 53 to 49 title going back to her wins in the Columbia.
The girls probably the most exciting game of the four with the last second shot for us.
That company will take a title factor to cap counting 3837 over Sandy Creek.
It appears right now that Henry County and the wonderful town of McDonough are going to be celebrating tonight courtesy of the Golden Eagles with Rivers landing and what a celebration for Coach Crump again.
We'll go to the Four Corners and talk it out.
Listen to this crowd for the eagle has landed.
There you go.
But let's set it any better all the way and don't jump at all by Auburn.
And that's it.
Six 3047 Ravens landing number 260.
When it comes to perseverance, I would say that a while, but they're a very talented team.
And again, Columbia had no reason to hang their heads.
It's a great program.
They'll be back.
But they just ran into a juggernaut that's even John Nelson standing by with it.
Very happy.
Clay Crawford trying to get them after the two teams with the handshakes and sportsmanship.
But that dunk at the end think it's frustration for the years that Columbia has on them.
And what a moment for you guys winning here tonight.
Well, we have to say Columbia did battle back and get back in this ballgame after a couple of possession game and just couldn't finish because the Eagles landed and again, was able to stop him in the paint.
All right.
John Nelson with Clay from the George Gentlemen, what my first question for you, What was it like to see Coach McCrory at the end of the line and get congrats from a legend like that?
And it's been a great honor.
He's been very complimentary to us as we've met him over the years and, you know, his he recognizes good coaching.
He's been complimentary.
It's been a very, very honoring to us.
I can't really talk.
It's good to see him at the end of the bench.
Another front, I'll put it like that.
All right.
That's been a legend.
Then let's find out what it's like to be a coach who's won a state title for Henry County for the first time over a generation.
How's that feel?
It's been a it's been a long climb for us.
His last one was a girls title in 1960, and we've been knocking on the door for the last two years.
And it was to finally kick it down and represent everybody in the county.
Congratulations.
Go get your trophy.
Appreciate it.
Appreciate it.
All right, Gill, fill some time for us before we get to the trophy presentation, Right, John, thank you.
61 to 47, we say thank you to you and thank you for Coach Crump.
The celebration continues in Macon.
It'll be a great ride to McDonough tonight.
61 to 47 postgame festivities continue for Macon after this
