He's coming in.
It's a helicopter slam jam the pull up from three.
Watch this guy go wheel drive, backs it in and gets it from the Making Colosseum in the Making Center Flex.
It is championship number four to be decided here on day one of the Dr.
Round Swearingen GHC basketball championships.
It is a battle of Region four versus Region three, Liberty County coming in with a record of 28 and four going up against the Jonesboro Cardinals chasing a three peat, coming in with a record 27 and one.
I am John, this is Sean.
Thanks for accessing us however you were doing so whether it's GPB talk of the GPB sports app Sean when we're discussing these two teams chasing after a quad title, it is first timer versus the veteran.
You know, John, we've we've talked about that before in the opening, you know, coming here for the third opportunity to win Jonesborough with a chance to win three in a row.
That's special.
I mean, that's something these kids have something to really hang their hat on.
But you really got to understand that the community support them.
Everybody is behind.
Jonesborough are getting here for the same time.
Liberty County, John, Liberty County here, getting here for the first time.
There's a little nervousness that they really want this really bad and they've got to enjoy the process, enjoy the atmosphere.
And now you've got a chance to make it happen.
All right.
Let's talk about the team chasing after the three peat.
Last team to do it was Miller Grove.
And we saw Miller Groves knock off six in a row at one point.
And with Jonesborough, the Nationals sophomore of the year, has turned into one of the most sought after juniors in the country in M.J. Walker Yeah, you talk about a young man, Johnny, he's a stud, a65, just about one nine and he can do it all averaging close to 24 points a game.
This really a good player to watch and a great team player, a great leader and he's really maturing and we have a lot of effort there for M.J. Walker.
Now for the flip side in Liberty County, let's talk about two kids who are probably one in the same.
They have the same brain.
They've been playing together since they were nine and ten years old.
It's Davion mitchell and Richard Lookout.
Yeah, To the left, you see Devin Mitchell committed to Auburn University, one of the top 11 point guards in the nation.
And you have to count, they're getting stretched out.
A 21 point per game stood a five star stud committed to Georgia to play football combined John they're averaging over 46 points a game.
You're looking at about 46% of the points for Liberty County coming through these two.
What a night we have.
There's a lot of Georgia football ties that Liberty County squad, third member of our broadcast team will be patrolling the sidelines.
It is Sam Crenshaw and Sam, what's this about a young coach and a coach who's been there for a while.
Let's talk about coaching by the numbers you guys show the coach Coach moment moment has been at Jonesboro.
You're right there.
The year 2000, he became the head coach in 2005.
So he's been there 16 seasons and now he's going for a three peat, a third consecutive state championship, on the other hand, in Liberty County.
And Stokes, because he graduated from Liberty County in 2010, 2010, and he's back as a head coach.
This team is going to get them the first state championship.
Oh, by the way, let me show you something over this.
Turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, turn.
Auburn coach Bruce Pearl in the house behind me here.
He wants to take this game out tonight.
Yes, and no doubt about it.
Bruce Pearl has keeping an eye on Davion mitchell.
Davion Mitchell right now averaging 25, four and seven as the junior who will be running the point for Liberty County, Julian Stokes at the age of 24 there there's the Warrigal figure that was going to get one of those in by the time it was done.
And let's take a look at Liberty's starters starting lineups brought to us by our friends at Regions Bank.
You see five and 23 at the same brain.
Davion Mitchell and Richard Lookout, Jalen Frazier, Will Richardson, who's going to Georgia Southern to play football, and also Jai Shawn Harris.
That is your Liberty County starting five brought to us by our friends at Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more.
And the defending defending champ Jonesboro.
It is M.J. Walker Eric Lovett, who came in from Alabama two years ago after his sophomore season.
Now a strong senior, Tyreke Jenkins, Kenneth Qualls and Jamari Smith 23 to 0 11 and one for Jonesboro.
Let's take a look at the keys to the game Sean brought to us by our friends at the Technical College system of Georgia.
Hey hey Giants Harder coach To me I mean defensive intensity that's their bread and butter is not offense this team wants to will you call it their defense They've got to execute on have to come out and be ready.
It can't just be M.J. Walker it's going to be a team effort tonight.
John, speaking of team efforts, what about the Panthers in Liberty County?
Hey, Mitchell, got to have a good game done this young man.
You know, everybody knows that he is kind of the catalyst to getting this Liberty team to a championship.
He's got to have a big team, a big game.
But the other teams on the other two, McCown and Richardson, they have to be ready to play.
This is a first championship, John.
The first appearance in the school's history.
You got to enjoy this in Jordan, excitement of being in the championship game and that's one of the things that Julian Stokes has impressed upon his kids to enjoy the experience.
Don't worry about what's going on.
He knows that this is a beautiful opportunity.
That's his word.
Maybe a lot of folks at the age of 24 matter thought that a 24 year old wasn't ready to be a high school head basketball coach.
But guess what?
27 and one first year out of the blocks, it was an assistant last year under Willie Graham.
Graham retired.
Well, let's find out what both coaches had to say to their squads before this game tonight.
There's no pressure.
There's no pressure.
It's another game.
All right?
It's just another game.
We're going to go out there and do what we do, but we don't walk away with this time.
Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work.
Let's go, baby.
Who cares?
It's our first time here.
Who cares?
It's our second time.
32, man One hour and a half of everything.
You got together playing hard, playing fun together, everything you got.
Give it to me for the next hour and a half.
All right, let's go.
Dan Mailman talking to his Jonesboro Cardinals, Julian Stokes talking to his Panthers of Liberty County.
And what does this mean to everyone in Liberty County?
Even the folks at Bradwell Institute.
Wow.
Are behind you tonight with John.
Coach Stokes came in here and he told his team, very passionate, very come under control.
If he showed a nervousness, I think the team would have shown the same thing.
He's very calm and confident and I think that's going to show here.
We'll see in the first 5 minutes of this game, John, what team is going to come out, the mentality of both 27 and one best record in school history for liberty County, the first title game in any sport since 1965 for any school from Liberty County.
And this is the first Liberty County championship game in any sport.
The school opened in 1991, and if you're into numbers five Final four appearances for Liberty County 22 2003, 26, 2015 and 2016, and they would lose to the eventual champion each time they would appear in the Final Four Jonesboro.
On the flip side, challenge themselves early on by going to Palm Springs, California, to play in a Christmas tournament, third place out of 16 teams playing the national top ranked team in the nation, Chino Hills, California, losing 4493, but then coming back and having to play Bishop Gorman the next night for a strong squad.
So Mailman has his teams tournament tested.
And John, you talk about how athletic this game is going to be just without.
He won the chip there by 510.
He's athletic and it's going to give me a tale, John, of what we're going to speak to for the next hour and a half.
Will Richardson And follow up before the sophomore averaging 13 five rebounds, three and a half assists and set up the Derby Elementary.
And so Kenneth Falls are getting acquainted.
We'll be seeing a lot of each other all night.
Jumper three rim, no batted around balls comes out with it Jonesboro has got numbers and the escape in out of the hands on the pass coming back Good save Jonesboro hang on to it perimeter jumper back of the rim no good rebound Liberty County all the way down coast to coast Missed second opportunity no no third chance foul on the inside Looks like they're going to call it on Eric love it And John just looking at how the first 53 seconds of the game started John a few missed shots, a few turnovers mean you can tell there's a few butterflies down between both teams.
They're going to set it down, but you can tell too early.
There are a few butterflies, a few nervousness between both teams.
Foul call on Jamari Smith.
It's his first three four hits, The fun of the rim and that's about it.
And Jalen Frazier Frazier on the air averaging about three and a half points five rebounds misses both free throws.
Back comes Jonesboro Tigers.
Jenkins zero And you're up to M.J. Walker with a movie set up Jenkins help on the perimeter It's a three falls to his left and one rotation walled inside for Smith Nothing allowed in the paint so far by Liberty County jumper outside guard It's a great socks it's another step And on the stroke of a three you can tell hey he's got a lot of confidence in his stroke and he's going to show something tonight.
John half of the games this year, Eric Lovett has at least three or more, three point jumpers after that start tonight, Jumper from the outside, Magic for three off the rim.
No good.
Here comes Jonesboro, Jackson Jenkins looking to drive spin kick to the corner three pointer off the rim no good Liberty County said the pass intercepted that they're going to try to do cross talked a thought about it Savion had trouble in the paint McCown blocked jumper what you say but in the Liberty County hands down a foul He had a three point play the old fashioned way on offensive rebound and Frazier just can't in the right place at the right time for the chance to go down for three and a strike on Jamari Smith it's his second he has to sit early zero Cooper comes in off the bench with that name's familiar to you press number three and white star quarterback from the football team signed with Clemson grabs the rebound free throw was missed for three two Liberty County one for their first seven one third double hands in the passing lane.
Damion Mitchell knocks it out of bounds.
The mistake to Jones and John I'm looking at how they're defending M.J. they're trying to deny him the ball and when he gets it, you're going to trap him on the ball screens and make sure we get the ball out of his hands so he can't be as effective.
We're back to Tyreke, him to the backboard for the inbound so they can reset the trap again.
It looks like as soon as they cut the court in half we're going to trap Walker No good rebound nobody can Mitchell again ball drive off the glass Nothing is good right now We talked about the two headed monster earlier but Richardson is that third part of it that when he's hot John he's hot arms and 13 points a game the sophomore made a great move to the basket very confident with the scoop for the layup Liberty with the lead at four three coming up on the halfway point zero the first quarter jumper outside for three off the rim no good rebound picked up again Jalen Frazier and here comes Liberty County in transition Mitchell pull up jumper short from Jonesboro quickly they've got number here instead of the pick they're going to call the foul on Mitchell John just good basketball Here's the sophomore being moved to the basket avoiding a chance You know he's a good player John and they're definitely going to need Richardson to win this game tonight.
Protecting the ball with the body in the drive up Walker patrolling the perimeter.
They'll bring it back to Tyreke champions to reset but don't you watch account of how they defended Walters special They're trying to deny him the ball number one but they're playing off of zone they're playing off the floor They're not looking to him as an offensive threat.
Another foul outside the yard that's going to go on Richardson That's his second foul early on and it's going to be a three shot foul.
But the for him, Jay Walker takes his three free throws.
We're right at the halfway point of the first quarter.
Liberty County with the early lead as both teams try to size the other up here, the Macon Coliseum in the making center flex on JB.
I like video games is all about getting to the next level.
Mastering skills, gaining knowledge and setting goals are crucial to success in both coming out of high school and jumping.
It's a matter of factually starting here on the floor, hands on, and I just work really hard and try to learn everything that I could, and I advanced pretty quickly.

Welcome back.
Make It Policymaking Center Flex.
Halfway through the first quarter, Louis County, with the only four three lead on defending defending champ Jonesboro here at 45.
Let's figure out how these two teams got to this particular moment in time.
The road to the championship proposed by our friends at Georgia EMC lighting the way.
Jonesboro had a 34 point win over North County and snuck past Carrollton, 5150, beat Westover by two, and then Brady, a tough defensive effort by the Cardinals, had them win by 28.
On the flip side, Liberty County knocked off Howard and you see something on the left hand side with all those wins they're playing in the seventies, in the eighties, 26 points, 18 points, ten points and 13 points.
They got it to a 16 nothing lead against Laconia in the semis and put up 81 on the board.
Well, you can see the track meet.
We have in front of us John Liberty County and Jonesboro.
And if we want to play aggressive being attack mode, shooting the three, attacking the Rams, the black teams athletic enough to play that style.
Now shots are going to stop all around.
They've got good players on the court, John, and I'm really enjoying watching this game so far, but I'm not much does are not much to talk about in the first 4 minutes.
Just the jitters having to come out every starting own six from the field now hit the last two or three.
So it's just getting the jitters out John.
And so both teams can relax and come back in Greensboro.
On the flip side, one of their first five first free throws up and we're tied at fourth.
One of the top ten players in the nation joined here.
Jay Walker is going to be highly touted.
You know, everybody wants to sign him.
Just a pure, pure stroke of pure athlete.
But Coach Mailman says that he's a better leader.
And the way that he's mature, John, right there in front of his eyes is a credit to what this young man and his family, he can trace his mom and his dad, how much they're really curious, this young man to do the right thing.
First two years on the program.
He is in the background, but now he's the kind of guy when they practice at 645 in the morning, he can go to sleep before for three free throws in the book, six more league jumper off the side of the rim.
No good.
Liberty County will save dangerous pass to try to get a second opportunity.
They're going to call a block on the drive through that's good him by the fish as their defense was late Great drives to the john you've got to attack the paint especially a game like this John everything can be on the perimeter getting to the paint.
That's a fantastic job by Harris.
Now he's getting to a line for two fouls called on zero four for his first welcome in the first point in the book for Deshawn Harris missed a second rebound.
Eric Lovett you can see the Tyreke Jenkins thought about a drive but in the third one for nine they're laying off from center of it and are going to walk the perimeter now as you drive block on the way in and it looks like out of bounds off Jenkins back to Liberty County yeah John that's the straight defense there By Jove Liberty County just connected on the ball jam there in the paint count with the hand on the ball and it goes off Jenkins out of bounds and back on the Panthers gave young Mitch a long three off the rim and Jay Walker the rebound here comes Tyree Jenkins long outlet square up three short again Liberty County same two guys here comes transition again this is what we expected off the glass up and in easy to hit you look out and of course a fast athletic attack the rim type of player John player really good here's a steal in transition what about the corner jumper now square and fire in and out No good lookout point for the same great defensive play stays with the Panthers and tells his best player John haven't had a chance to see him all season long he's going to be a defensive stud at university of Georgia.
But one thing this kid is he is athletic, he is active, and he is relentless, crowning Derek Cooper with the ball.
The Liberty County can keep possession.
They're going to call a foul on the inside On the drive by Davion Mitchell when you got to play a lot would count John on your team.
You know he can he can definitely create a mismatch on the defensive end because how quick and athletic he is and how he pursues the basketball Hall of Fame walls.
It'll be his first block on the inside but I love it Nice no call down low by the officials nice block by 11 pretty counting all the way up on and around the screen going past him Jay Walker high shot no good whistle on the inside blocked ball on June four with Jones looking from the outside and you could say that this is delivered to town his first trip to the big dance to the championship.
Right because they're playing relaxed.
They're attacking the rim.
They're playing their game at Jonesboro.
You know, they're playing on their heels just a little bit.
Not much time, but just a little bit limited counter with a one point lead now to control up.
And then violent count.
His third point in the game and stay at three three down by love it back from Jonesboro Liberty up eight six Coming up on 2 minutes to go here Jenkins say Walker ball's looking drive he flies block on high by Jaylon Frazier and look for coach Millman is close how to get a little better shooter Ball's got subbed out Jonesboro one of their first seven isolation teams in the inside.
Hey let's talk that off the field Hey John great hands a lot of traffic inside for deflections but he was a strong with the basketball was able to finish the count fires got it.
I'm telling you I love the down man.
He's fearless.
He's relentless out on the court, coming back the other way.
They get to tip in that time.
0 to 4 coast to coast now McCown pulls up again.
Hey John Butler is on the road baby His nickname is both because he's on a roll defensively.
He's doing it offensively he's doing it.
That kid is doing it tonight.
It's now found his groove with two straight threes Liberty County up by four.
MJ Rim save Liberty County coming back a lot of traffic in the middle of the floor There's lookout See what he does Strip defense Tyreke Jenkins with it too much English on it out of bounds offensive excuses we talked about it for Jonesboro very key offensive execution He had a three on two opportunities right there and the fast break turnover you just can't have that in the championship game you would think Liberty County would play for the last shot.
But knowing the way that their offense has been, if there's an open shot, they'll take it.
Well, John King off the court, 27 and one just making bad decisions here.
Late game I think they'll be try to take the last shot Tyreke three knows it that was on him he he's trying to get a pass to Davion Mitchell for the last shot he wanted it a little too much at 58. guard and the Liberty County sees a 10 seconds to go here in the first thought about a give and go now it's back to M.J. Walker creating inside shot off the rim no good rebound.
Liberty County just a lead nowhere close and that's the first eight Liberty County behind Richard Lookout.
Bruce Pearl in the house.
He's making sure that he keeps an eye on Davion mitchell as he heads to the flames.

But because it was against your home team, it must be wrong.

Macon Coliseum Macon Center Plex.
Getting ready for the start of the second quarter.
Liberty County up for on Jonesboro and Sam Crenshaw.
Jonesboro is in an unfamiliar place in the state of Georgia.
Absolutely in coach Dan Millman talking to his team in the huddle he's saying you guys got to go back out there and go to work.
They're outworking you and that's why you're trailing in this game right now.
Go back on the floor and keep them off the boards.
They get in second, third opportunities.
You got to in that.
And we go back on the floor right now.
Let's watch.
Gordon Thank you very much, Sam.
First impressions of the first 8 minutes.
Mountford joins us to digest what's happened.
You've got the hunter and you've got the Hunter Jones Barrows being the hunted, going for three in a row here over the counter there, the hunter, they won that first championship.
Officials for the game, Daryl Lane, Ryan Williams, Andrew Bruton and the ones in charge of the whistles here, Liberty County, with two touchdowns on the board in the first 8 minutes up for Jonesboro in the first quarter, only three of 11 from the floor.
Liberty County off to a rough start.
Butler counts to threes.
It was four for 14 29% by Rick Jenkins looking to drive cross for a30 triple jump We go back to the keys again row players have to step up Cooper hitting that three will allow Jonesboro to be a little bit more active and not just focus on thing one nice off the right here fifth no second third chance Jonesboro trying to bring it back out Quarles goes into the Liberty bench look out it falls Just no sacrifice in this body, John Just trying to play hard.
Give something.
They're playing off of him on the defense, so they're giving him the ability, John, to make plays.
He's just an offensive threat.
At some point time, Coach Mailman is going to have to make a kind of strategic substitution on the offensive end and see if they can actually create a more balanced attack here in the half court.
Kick to the corner.
Three cannot talk about him, John.
He's the answer for a part of the big three here for Liberty County, averaging 13 points a game.
What a team down low wall drive with count and the block Isaiah the Liberty County makes it another one and done for Jonesboro drive kick nice shield with the body doesn't get the rolling all the charge and John I just watched that segment take off and got beaten down here reached here in the transition.
His teammate helped him out on the defensive end.
And those are the kind of plays that when you say role players have to step up, not just on the offensive end.
John.
On the defensive end as well.
Great play there by James Tyreke Reece called for the charge It's his second foul something to keep an eye on as the backup point game and the body count still maintains that four point lead about 40 into the second quarter with the spin move baseline got somebody up in the air and foul Marshall Washington up in the air that time in Washington the senior that's his first heading to Georgia southern to play football the part of the Liberty County basketball squad as well as take a look Nice spin with good footwork great job there by Cooper But we talked about the substitution of course, may made and what he did he went big John he put Mosley in the six six start down low for four so now Liberty County has to matchup with everyone instead of playing four against five.
Now it's more of a five on five matchup man to man.
Tyreke Reece will sit with his £2.
Jaylen Frazier comes back in wing violation ball wave off the free throw will bring it back the other way Looks like they called it on Jamari Mosley Tyreke Jenkins now taking a turn guarding Davion Mitchell Richardson way out long attempted a jumper just hits the rim Liberty County gets a second chance Mitchell thought about it comes back out with it McCown driving off the rim No the second chance bucket again this time Jalen free That's just energy doing justice and should be in the right place at the right time and is so much being focused on the penetration John that improvement opportunities of their 24 to come Jenkins drive almost got his pocket picked from behind McCown Alley Frazier let's take a look what happened down low you see there's the count coming to the basket John you've got to have that weakside rebounding There wasn't there.
Next phase again with the foot back is good basketball and great positions about by number two count it accounts for a foul with a six point lead and J want to win.
No they hit the floor.
It looks like they're going to call a foul on Jones from the reach foul is going to be on Jamari Mosley And John, you got to take this into consideration.
You got to count who is a five star.
Please think.
Yeah.
Okay.
He's playing the number ten player in the nation.
He's not getting open that easily.
Gives up five when the defensive players in the nation, football wise, you want to lock down safety you need the game like this off the rim.
No Same team fighting for it Derrick Cooper comes out with an intercepted McCown.
He'll fire exactly what I'm saying John here's a guy that's going to defend you he's going to play with energy he's is going to rattle M.J. Walker didn't steal hitting the three fighting Jacobs with the drive and the two gets it back to seven Richardson looking to drive on Jenkins crossover kick it back to Washington the Darby on Mitchell trying to find some way to get into the team finally does kicks it back out Richardson now on Liberty opponent on Jaylon Frazier That'll be his first and deliver to county John They were just playing with so much passion right now and you look at Jonesboro everybody here from Jonesboro John is bending over.
They haven't been in a fight like this, John, for a long time.
And you've got a lot of basketball to play on the halfway point here in the second quarter.
It's brutal, but it's the funny coach Mailman just said three to kill it for a little matchup zone.
John try to force a with bit counter play on the perimeter give them the outside and that way you won't put your defensive guys and fouls on 4240. Cooper Mitchell will bring it up the floor There's a zone and matching up zone breaker pass McCown give and go at it knocked away Jonesboro coming back to three on three Jenkins right hand you out Great job on tape that's been anticipated in zone Good deflection Nice finish there in the transition Richardson out high this time picked up by James Franco Italian Mitchell lockout missed the three that time long outlet by the quarterback two passes later and they missed the layup numbers He's there off the rim no and it's going to come back the other way just go with the possession when we come back 301 to go here in the first half, Liberty County's hanging with Jonesboro.
The cardinals are in a fight down four on the great GPB.

301 to go hear first half Liberty County, a four point lead on Jonesboro, next to a place to sit in the back row.
Take a look at 23 time again, a five star free state for the top defensive players in the nation.
Football wise, he has the motor.
We watch him.
He's all over the place.
Offensively, he's making shots, defense simply he's getting steals, things that he's comfortable and accustomed to doing, John.
And he's making this Jonesboro team.
He's wearing them down him.
John.
That's what he's doing because he's doing so much on the defensive end.
And offensive is not fatigue and that's tough to win.
You got to go against a guy like that, especially M.J. Walker, who forced him to be a dominant player on the team, the dominant average athlete on the court.
Here's a guy that just as athletic is here and he's dominating the game right now.
Nice work in the back row.
The truck will be getting a lot of great shots.
Shout out for GPB crew, day one of a three day event down here.
So we're almost at the studio now.
Full 3 minutes to go as a on a50 run.
Currently both teams three for eight from the floor here in the fourth can't close it all the way back Damian Mitchell started up the heat jumper It'll continue it will Richardson just kind of travel the perimeter, dribble the basketball keeping an eye on five the 23 to be on this one But you look down count the numbers 12 and two and see John a lot of times that's what he does.
It takes the offense off with it.
You know, there's a lot of transition baskets, a lot of penetration to the basket for Liberty County.
Now, the zone has caused him to be off rhythm, but you still got to do something and that's defense and also box out against the zone, too.
And that's Richardson again, being in the right place at the right time, 24 to 18 margins back to six coming up on 2 minutes to go first down, championship number four, the last one from day one here at just a chance for 20 1516.
Check out MJ.
Got it.
Nice coach John.
He's cute again for the top ten players in the nation as a rising senior next year.
It's pretty clear from the outside here.
Inside he's is a solid stroke.
He's got a lot of basketball to play on.
He does have a chance when he explodes down he will explode on 90 seconds to count thinking about it, take the free throw whistle.
Looks like it's a chance on account that they're going to call the block the other way.
You can't do a great job of just not attack at first, but using the hesitation and just a Cooper's not able to get there early.
John Good play by the count.
John Just doing a solid job of being in attack mode all night long.
Second foul, they call it on the first three for a most violent foul, just two.
But inside the inside shot of Harris Jumper, Alaska State was delivering a quick inbounds Mitchell down the horn looking for it stepped forward and John resolve this is own you know I don't know how much Kuzma I'm is going to stick to this in the second half but I'm stirring in the second quarter it's really causing this Liberty County John to play a little bit off rhythm this is a team that's used to playing seventies and eighties right now with a minute to go first half.
They've only got 24 Walker looking to drive and Josh on Harrison the way past Harris is comfortable and then we go back to a tease again we've talked about role players again Jake Walker, one of the top ten rising seniors in the nation.
He's a solid player, but the role players of Georgia Johnson have to step up to some point tonight.
Murray Mosley back in Missouri, Cooper's three points.
Good for nine to run the last three and a half to the margins two 2426.
We'll see if Liberty sits on it.
Rise up tempo jumper, elbow.
Got it again and go back to man to man delivery has that revenge on I don't know.
You got 30 plus seconds left in this in the first half John.
Measure the state with the job with the zone to carry out the game.
Jenkins drags it all the way back out to half court by Mosley AJ Walker up high now the ten kick out three short that's the half Oh most shot clock it would have died anyway but Liberty Kelly Richard McCown at the half for the Panthers getting from the outside getting half of Liberty County's points and Julian Stokes as a 4.3 to 6 minutes away from their first ever state title Sam Crenshaw with Coach Stokes ready to go to the locker room.
Coach Stokes talked about the first half we've been doing a good job on the rebounds.
I think we're out hustling them right now and we keep doing what we doing.
We'll pull out a victory toward the end, but we got to continue to come out in the second half.
Duke can do what we did in the first half.
Things you want to see them really execute on in the second half that maybe you have to settle down and lose the nerves from the start.
This game taking advantage every opportunity, man.
We had a lot of missed opportunities at the basket.
When we get to the free throw line, you know, we're not knocking down our free throws like we normally do.
I told them before, but before we came out, it's just a regular game, you know, They just got to settle down and play their game.
Well, they can do that in the second half.
Good luck to you.
Thank you.
That is Coach Julia Stokes.
Score is 2622.
Liberty County up on Jonesboro now, let's go to Mark and Jackie.

M.J. Walker of Jonesboro is ranked eighth, I think, in the country in terms of juniors or rising seniors.
And then, of course, liberty County has Davion Mitchell.
He's going to go to Auburn in a couple of years.
He's just a junior, but he's already committed.
And Richard McCown, he's a five star football player.
He's going to go to Georgia, not this year, but next year.
Yeah, it's incredible the talent that you see.
And then you see that manifest through the NBA, the WNBA, and then at the college level obviously as well.
So a lot of great talent out there on the court.
That's why you got that right.

Wrapping up Liberty County with a four point lead over Jonesboro.
Jonesboro Coach Melvin, lots about the first half of this basketball game.
You know, we just didn't we didn't match our intensity.
We didn't do a very good job of blocking out our game.
Our game plan was to play good defense and most importantly, block them out, make them hit shots in this big arena.
And we just didn't do that.
I mean, they outworked us for 16 minutes.
We've been in this situation before.
You won this title the last two years, but that's the last two years.
What do you have to have in the second half now?
I told my guys, you got 16 minutes left.
It's about a 30 minute span of your life.
So to handle a very simple game plan, how about who you want and whoever wants it the most is going to win this game.
We'll be looking for good luck to in the second half.
Thank you very much for that.
As Coach Spellman from Jonesboro High School.
John, John, back to you.
Thank you very much.
Sam, How much do you want it?
Interesting words from coach male in general.
We talked about it being the hunted by the hunter.
And right now, Jonesboro is being Hunt going for number three in a row and you've got Liberty County coming out, John, and they've got that gun and they see that rascally rabbit.
John And they want to get him and they want to get it.
And the count he's the one with the gun, Johnny.
He's out here just doing things.
A five star stud or defensive for defense.
And he shows you the kind of player he is just a guy that's playing with so much energy, so much passion, and he's just tenacious on the defensive end, too.
Let's take a look at some of the first half highlights and how we got to this point.
You see M.J. Walker then clamp down on him hard.
Yeah, John, that early bright spot for him.
Catch the ball in the paint you know was able to come out here and do some good things that's Cooper football star that's going to play it at Clemson so he's helping out But here's the man of the hour right here.
Here's the count attacking in transition.
Here's the count.
Anticipating with the steal and off of the steal.
John knocking down the three.
So you got a guy that and again and after the three John heats up right in the face of M.J. Walker looking at the stats here John rebounds 24 to 12 every category you can imagine John Liberty County.
John is dominating the game that's brought to us by our friends at Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance Stats, courtesy of our Friends of West Georgia Technical College.
Breaking down those rebound numbers, 13 defensive rebounds, four Liberty County, one offensive board for children, one that's called hustle, John.
Sometimes he can even call plays, but you can't get out here and just throw up heart and hustle and, you know, old Dabo Swinney, you got to bring your own heart, bring your guts, you got to bring young Gus.
And tonight, Lookout and his guys, they're just bringing that Hail John, that workhorse ethic, that mindset and really rattling Jonesboro.
Well, you mentioned Dabo Swinney.
Obviously, he's here at Cooper, heading that way to be to be a quarterback for that football team.
What's going on in here?
I mean, obviously, we've talked to both of these coaches, but what else is going on in these huddles right now was the Liberty County to have nothing to lose.
When you have nothing to lose, don't you give 100%.
So sometimes you look at when you're being hunted like Jonesboro, they're trying to protect their opportunity for three peat.
And when you protect it zone, you been a little bit cautious.
They just have to play relentless, no holds barred here in the second.
So there is such a thing as protecting something too hard.
Yes.
Oh, definitely.
Yes.
Especially when it comes to the championship jump ball hitting the other way.
Ultimate possession.
Nobody can.
He had the dribble drive.
They had that back door to try to expand on this four point lead.
Let's see how Jonesboro responds to Coach Mehlman's speech that he gave and told our Sam Crenshaw that Jenkins fish on the kick no good rebound.
Everybody crashing inside.
He's going to get it.
It's going to be Liberty County coming out with it.
Mitchell It's working for Will Richardson, but they call it what you have a tough guy.
I like Mitchell sized.
He's about six foot two, great looking body, one of the top 11 point guards in the nation for the 17 season.
This kid's going to be pretty good down at all.
Foul on Eric Lovett, his first first 40 seconds in here, going all the way back and bringing into the frontcourt is on fire and Jay Washer this time interesting elbow jumper too much but a second chance for Liberty County again their call charge on account that's his second the energy that McCown has done you really got to understand you know what he brings to the table he's not going to stop for the first, second, third or fourth play and give you a five star stern with his offense, defense, basketball, football.
You play to the Wilson even though he got the charge on him.
This kid is playing with something right here in the top sense of urgency one football player is going to charge out of the other three safety charges into the quarterback possession binge watch for a lot of hands in the way they're going to call a foul on number two county in the reach even though it was a late Wilson's on it was a good foul.
Jim Walker when he penetrates John he's not penetrating one on one and he's almost running in two, three or four black jerseys.
And then he gets to the paint.
John Lever, the county just collapsing on his presence.
Second foul on John Harris three on the inside steps by Smith called for the violation 3 seconds in the body count is still 2622 Richardson left hand hit in off the joust and they did some with nine mm up to six three active hands everywhere by Liberty County they've got numbers.
Davion Mitchell We'll see how heats up.
Tony Did you see how much he got up Head House And to tell you something, he's not putting up the numbers that you would think he would tonight, but his athletic is that Blake was John that's a high major play and it's just a junior first bucket of the night for Davion Mitchell but he'll dribble Jones for a turnover and a state championship game.
This is the first point I would love to have you know, coming down with a Tomahawk dunk.
But you know what?
I think he's going to watch him now, starting to play more aggressive and getting involved in the play.
Three turnovers this quarter already and only 2 minutes in for Jonesboro.
Hi, Jack.
Heading back the other way is Jones for a four off and they missed the layup and the second and third chances fouls on Josh on on Jalen Frazier his second in kind of the tail John Jones buried here the first 2 minutes going into the second half and all the first half he had three opportunities for the tip that Johnny just didn't follow Yeah yet the free throw line but you had a chance to convert off the turnover and we'll see if they can get two points all his possession open.
This is the first and those are the kind of plays John you have to make, especially the championship game in transition basket come you had three guys right there at point blank range and they're trying to get a follow up on the free throw line.
Yes he brought it up.
It was a tough break down on the floor but they get the rebound far away.
Nothing back comes Liberty County.
What count too on to pull up jumper too much but another chance for Liberty County again Davion Mitchell thinking about it drive make it all the way by looks like it's going to be Tyreke Jenkins on the drive as the time when you make that make plays like you did I just thought with the transition dunk that sense of energy he's got something now starting to stir inside and now he's going to go on the attack Great move went up right on the baseline solid finish I thought it was a good one Bucket counts one play to get his final win.
Now he's made three straight plays and he's dominating the game now to play foul.
On Tyreke Jenkins, his third.
Here it is go up got the three missed the free throw though Jonesboro is back in possession with it coming up on 5 minutes Liberty County on a901 great entry pass to MJ Walker Too much rebound on the inside Liberty County down and all the jostling inside the paint stays with Jonesboro and John body language watch the body language Bam Jones firm they're in a fight.
They have to wake up.
They're in a fight.
They're hoping something happens.
They're hoping the M.J. Walker can put them on his back.
But you can't do that because it's one against five.
Somebody has to step up here for Jonesboro in the next couple of minutes, falls to MJ in the corner, pull up jumper.
Too much second chance rarity.
They miss the body again, Liberty County trying to come out with it.
MJ Walker with the steal bodies all over the floor.
Time out.
Does it stay?
Yes.
I see the first person on the court.
What's a county judge on Liberty Town with the first people?
The Court The first person reports on what's going on with the basketball heads up play by Jalen Frazier, Jonesboro from the floor this quarter over seven.
Quick word.
What else is going on here at Georgia Public Broadcasting?
Have you ever wondered why basketballs bounce or one animal could jump the highest for questions like these and many more don't this why Wednesdays for a full day of science and nature shows we explore all of life's toughest mysteries.
Why Wednesday on the great GPB 5050.
How about a why Thursday?
Hey, why Thursday?
State championship?
John Jonesborough and Liberty County.
That's why this is a great game, John and Liberty County just come out being aggressive.
I mean, they're they're playing with so much energy, nothing to lose, playing relentless, getting all the 5060 balls who really want this championship badge on Will Richardson inbounds to Davion Mitchell and you can see that Mitchell's feeling it it's low to the ground he's feeling it and there's a whistle on the drive past it's going to be on Ball's reality.
Ball's second foul and the first game we called Day Pardon was a game of runs in single-A, which is Wilkinson County in Hancock Central.
This one's also a game of runs.
Jonesboro had a 9 to 1 to close the margin to two before.
Liberty has scored nine now to make it an 11 point game all over again.
Mitchell Too much coming out with it.
Jonesboro calls to Jay Walker driving that foul Field Marshal Washington State Walker was trying to get into the paint Washington second foul of the season when he can get the ball in transition, John, he can attack the rim and not have five black shirts.
They're waiting for him in the paint.
So he was ready to turn the corner, catch him just a little bit here and a half foot.
We'll see what Jonesborough can do.
It seems like any time 23 White gets the ball, it's many black shirts that can get there as quickly as possible.
Clamp down on him.
And they've been doing it ever since.
Opening tip.
Now you can see, particularly in the long coming, running all over the place, trying to get a touch of the ball and trying to get in position to score.
And he's just been hounded by the count to be considered.
Cooper was playing catch up again as we come up on three and a half to go.
Eric Lovett long three rimmed out walls inside.
He's Jamari Smith for his first basketball flight three nights in a half court trip.
The one shooting in that portrait.
But John, it's only a nine point game.
If I'm Jonesborough Jones, I might go back to the drop zone because he seemed eager to take off so six and a half minutes.
Wow.
Now live driving fouls on Sarah Cooper.
It's his third Liberty County 13 on second chance points.
Davion Mitchell First bucket of the game went to the penthouse.
Liberty County's lead is nine on the great Day brings out the best in all of us over at Regions.
Every day is game day.
Welcome back.
Megan Coliseum making cineplex 303 for the third.
Liberty county's lead is nine and we refer to Jonesboro as the defending defending champ and here's how they got that way knocking off Columbia in 2014.
Harrison and four getting to the Kent County powerhouse for the last game of the year.
Jonesboro ends up with the Duke to get their first win.
And then, of course, what do you do for an encore?
After knocking off Columbia to get that first championship, you get the celebration in after the Long Jumpers.
No goodbye, Columbia.
Jonesboro gets the Duke there to get that first title secured.
5651, the final over Columbia.
Then last year in a big game against Kels Carrollton getting a lot of impact on the inside.
But once again, guys that you're seeing who are seniors now were juniors last year.
Jonesboro ended up going back to back, knocking off Carrollton back to back titles with the Champs.
As Larry Smith gets to do Second Chance Points finally falling for James Byrd in the margins, two seven at 3326 and John Jonesboro, you know just chipping away you don't, you know, don't ten take your time seven point game still in the third quarter.
You can't try to force the tempo and make big plays to get good stops and stuff like that.
The steps.
And you know what, John?
I like this exchange.
I like this.
It stays at this deep.
This is a football player versus a basketball player.
That football guy, he's going inside the mind of him to walk into a pocket.
What is he going to do?
How is he going to react?
What is he going to do?
You want to watch out for his safety going up against the number one wide receiver?
That's what you got right there with the 223.
And I'm telling you, just put a team on those two alone.
It's the face guard going on and make a walk instead of making cuts.
He's just walking around the counter in.
His second was possibly frustrated as he got better right role players on both players for over time have to make plays now step right calls with the fact that they're the margins five under 2 minutes to go third quarter and the bounce is good there from Richardson to break up the six over run by the Cardinals close pass there too hard doesn't get to the wall walls is fighting for it with Richardson goes out of bounds and stays and there's your ISO right there there is sick of this all defense football look at that not let him get the ball and see him Jason Wall he's got cut he's going to move but he's frustrated by the count time great defense but he's not quite the receiver the entire time Richardson Savion Mitchell by Jamari Smith Step over left hand Big teardrop doesn't fall Kick back out the count Go after the basketball bodies.
Everyone goes to town for John.
Let's say we had a hundred plays tonight in this game.
We had a lot more than that.
Well, let's see.
We had a hundred of that country.
I would say 80% of those click count has hit something.
He's been probably 8% of those for the first half.
And he's had and he's brought the football mentality on to the basketball court.
And you need that.
You have to have that.
There's a sense of toughness that good players have.
You got it is football and basketball business says the toughness that you have to have have young Mitchell and M.J. Walker's hip hop is now called by Jones.
For a lot of fans, YMCA Walker Time just gives it a spin move to keep the defense off of him and a good play if he can continue that here going into the fourth quarter time, he can and should do a good for just over ten on his back.
Just scooping up for the two points instead of penetrating.
Face it up, John.
Get them on here.
Close to a foul to force it down low in the paint.
And remember Davion mitchell does not have a foul account has to and we mention that football mentality of McCown one of the assistant coaches for Julian Stokes is someone that you know have time up and ask Yeah Kirk wanted to talk about guys a head football coach down and for now he has so much confidence in his program and these kids well he maybe he may be the person that orchestrated this whole thing so to get a coach coach in the position coach on his staff now being coached skills in a position to be the head coach at a young age.
A 24 year old boy, very much dealing with.
We now know from the class of 22 and Julie is still in the graduate state 2014.
People will be talking about players like you guys are 19 years old.
Most of these kids don't like the game.
It's no longer just, you know, I had a chance to talk about our Georgia together, basically a great football tournament.
Georgia.
It's a long and involved conversation hours long involves.
Yes.
Yes it was Can't talk about it on the air but John yeah I'm sorry to say Jones first trans press conference and temple when it counted nearly 50 seconds to go on the court I would drop back to that three two zone.
If they go for one shot, that's fine.
You're only down by five points.
But you got to deliver to kind of rhythm somehow guarded by falls up high.
There's Richardson it's up by Eric Glover and passes complete to the cheerleaders and then the turnover from Knight for one of the great catch good hands they see what Jones can do John you got the ball with 20 seconds to go in the third.
What happened was and Davion mitchell again McCown and Walker set pocket double team five and 23 bodies all over Jonesboro had possession Sierra Cooper fall time out Here's your hustle on the floor so you've got a football guy six now I do like this John Walker the first one on the court that's another football player going to clips and Cooper you've got the two football guys on the floor.
John Best That's what the game is going to come down to the heart and also plays John in 54 degrees and M.J. Walker getting on the floor.
John Madden waking up that John Cooper number three in white, six for five points, four rebounds, a four star QB heading to class because when you mentioned Dabo Swinney earlier, the first thing that popped into my brain was, okay, well, there's somebody who's going to crunch.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, he was out with the steal last year.
The kid has really bounced back and I knew about 80 of my daughter's going to one right now, John.
And to bounce back from that type of injury, that type of surgery and come out here and just stay play hard down on the floor for loose balls, you know, he knows how to play and sacrifice his body to get things done.
Jonesboro with 20.4, just get us through to the 24 minute mark.
Harry Jenkins looking inside, hands in the lane picked up again Davion Mitchell layup margin back to seven Tyreke Jenkins down hands in the lane again well done these two plays offensively for Jonesboro They're trying to get the ball to Walker He had a wide open layup he had it wide open Pull up stop looking for a one man show the role players have to be involved and make plays quick set fire off the rim.
No good does it count?
Didn't go.
Doesn't count anyway.
Literally counting 8 minutes away from knocking off the two time defending champs Davion Mitchell seven in the quarter, Liberty County up seven after three on the great fourth quarter right around the corner.

Regulation of the Boys Quad Championship Liberty County leading the two time defending champs by seven, Sam Crenshaw was paying attention to a very animated Dan Mailman in the break.
Sam Absolutely.
Coach Mailman told his team you got 8 minutes 8 minutes left to go out and play your very best.
He says every rebound has to be ours.
Every loose ball has to be ours on every offensive possession.
You've got to look for the best possible shot.
Thank you very much, Sam, that you're talking to with each other.
What's on the stage is set seven point game.
Liberty County, the first few minutes.
We'll see what team has the guts to finish this thing off.
First 2 minutes down here.
The fourth quarter, Jonesboro outrebounded Liberty County, 11 seven in the third, and they only had one offensive rebound in the first half.
They had eight in the third quarter.
Once again, more bodies on the floor timeout called.
I don't know.
That's kind of a question mark John that ball was definitely out of the offensive hands a lot of monster on the court M.J. Walker also slipped as well to just take a look at the pile.
So here's Damian, just a slip.
Nobody touched him, so you don't have possession of the ball.
So they're looking to call a timeout.
So I don't think the official really saw that.
So he rewarded everybody kind of with the timeout.
They've got the ball.
So now we're going to keep playing.
John Mitchell kind of spun out presence of mind to kind of stay with it get the timeout called.
Yeah and tell you about what else is going on here on the great GPB just in time for baseball season since pitchers and catchers have reported Ken Burns presents his latest documentary, Jackie Robinson, an enthralling look at the groundbreaking career civil rights activism of the baseball legend, featuring extensive interviews with his widow Rachele.
See how their love story was.
The foundation for all of his success.
Jackie Robinson coming Monday, April 11, to the great GPB.
What a great story.
Jackie Robinson was a guy who really changed sports in a dynamic way.
We mentioned Lights out, game on.
It was probably the last person leaving Liberty County to turn out the lights today with Bradwell Institute in your corner, Liberty County High School.
Everyone in Liberty County, Haynesville well represented today as was as is Jonesboro here the quad a championship class championship day one number four off the glass short rebound picked up Derek Cooper looking to outlook but Jenkins and Eric Loving Cooper thought about it big step picked off Davion Mitchell Will Richardson getting the clear love it out thought about it give and go Mitchell Mitchell right hand John he afforded that chance I mean great body control by Mitchell but I'm telling you John I was watching Richardson with the southpaw with the ball up top.
He's handling the ball with a lot of confidence.
Yes, he had a few turnovers, but he's making solid plays.
Three No Good by M.J. Walker Tyreek Jenkins blocked Walker had it and lost it but it's an on the third chance by Jabari Smith and Jon Jones Very real lesson there in a fight I mean they've got to be scrappy loose balls as coach said offensive rebounds but you've got to defend here keep the ball out the paint get a stop go down the score love it and Richardson, Jenkins and Mitchell pass through the inside strip coming back the other way reach in that time by Richardson playing defense to keep Lovett from getting the two That'll be Richardson's third or a minute 40 in Liberty County leading by seven LeVert has really clamped down tonight Yeah averaging 15 and four games only has the one three pointer from the first quarter That's it with John You know go back to where I said you got the hunter and you got the honey.
And when you're the hammer, John, you look at Liberty County, you've got a seven point lead here in the fourth.
You want two of you kind of looking at the clock a little bit now, clock, run, clock, run.
But when you're hunting time, you can't slow down.
You have to stay aggressive.
And, you know, even though they may have a turnover, they've got to continuously attack, attack, attack.
This is both free throws, bounce pass to the inside, off the glass to harden Lookout kicks it back out.
You got a whistle call with him stepping on the baseline and right now lookout is an early enrollee in Georgia to play football for Kirby Smart.
So if everything sticks to plan, this is his only opportunity to get a basketball championship.
And he is taking advantage of this opportunity like no else.
He's playing one of the top five players in the nation.
Lee's really handling him pretty good offensively.
He is everywhere defensively, John.
He is over the court and he's going to leave it all out here today trying to take this championship back home a little bit.
Got two bodies up high and look back out to Jonesboro for the three which he showed off the rim.
Third opportunity wise, that he's looking to do something with it.
He got another foul.
Daniel Mitchell, his first and just too early for Jonesboro to start shooting threes.
I mean shoot threes John is going to take away their confidence, get to the basket, get to the rim and then get to the free throw line by Jalen Frazier.
It'll be his.
And this is how you chip away and chip away and chip away and the clock doesn't move.
And that's the best time trying to get a score, especially when you're down 538 in the fourth year, down by seven points.
Score from the free throw line.
You got control of the top of the clock, you got a defensive self.
Come in and set up your defense.
This is a great situation with Coach Millman and Jonesboro.
You mentioned three point shooting jump from two of 12 to this point.
It's not their strength, John.
I mean, you got one player which is in play.
Walker Yeah, he's shooting close to 4% from the three point line.
Everyone else is shooting well below 2025 for the year.
So it's not the strength of their team, it's not their backbone supplement where they had on.
So we've got to continue to try to get to the free throw line, but they've got to capitalize on John when the opportunity presents itself.
You another to both the fourth quarter six of 14 again from the line for Jonesboro Richardson spinning on love in left hand I said I'm really like this here the southpaw ladies gentlemen a sophomore making big plays here at the championship center.
Jumper misses everything.
Tyreek Jenkins And here's Richardson.
I mean, he's got a great shot to the chops.
Two great body control handles the ball.
Look at that.
Get the basketball on the screen to straightened with the left hook for the finish.
Another shot to the jaw sticks with it off the rim.
No jump ball, Paul.
It's going to go back the other way.
Jonesboro, as Jalen, Frazier and Lovett were trying to hang on to it at the same time And see John, sometimes if you look at Liberty County, you will say you're up by nine points under 5 minutes to go.
Just be patient.
But that's not how they play.
John.
You can't play out of who you are.
Liberty County You got to stay in attack mode, but make a right attack at the right time.
Jenkins Just a double screen up high.
Jay Walker, guarded by all accounts, runner Larry Craig Yeah, Unfortunately, just tonight he's playing one against five.
He's not having a lot of help, so he's having to do a lot of things on his own With 13 March and six trying to get through traffic.
Savion Mitchell We're going to call a block on Walker and make sure 23 is going at it.
Football versus basketball.
And what I'm seeing, John, now looking at looks out now he hasn't been that involved plays in the fourth quarter.
I think fatigue is getting to him, John.
You see what happens here.
Is it going to be he's going to need a little breather.
He's bending over so he may fatigue, maybe creeping up on him just a little bit.
And you can see a change in his intensity down on the defensive end that was called on in Jay Walker first.
Oh, now they you have him, Mitchell pass is working McCown blocked by Walker from behind another opportunity lost the handle on the way up Jonesboro got it Moore hands in the pile Walker and the two by Jamari Smith all Jonesboro needs John is getting stops We talked about McCown and fatigue one play range No he's losing control of the ball he's not moving around this place now you got to have a stop on Richardson, see if he can pass and help Liberty County take the home foul on Jamari Smith on the reach on Richardson his third score.
That's almost a scenario for you to count out by six points.
You got three timeouts may be a time right now a timeout for rest.
Sometimes the timeouts aren't for strategy just to give your team a rest.
I love Weaver so you can finish out the games for Richardson now that's 15 would with just 13 on the year means your 20 threes would count and then Jay Walker pulls up with a long three point shot and now Jonesboro.
Yeah Jones first is a time now this is the rest timeout John that's not about strategy They're going to come up with a little strategy try to make something happen on the defensive man you got the number one player in the state as a junior, one of the top ten players in the nation.
Eventually it's going to happen for him.
Nice throw down for him Walker from the from the deep three.
All right.
Let me flip the script for.
There's your defending defending champ You're Julian Stokes and Liberty County going up against these guys in white men in this situation.
What are you telling them in the huddle up for when you've been up by a lot more than that?
Well, you don't want to be a hero right now.
You don't need big plays guys with up for.
But you can't do it this time because if they see us panic, they're going to try to come down and capitalize on it, make solid plays.
You don't have to.
There's no shot clock, so we don't have rush.
We still have to be in attack mode, but we have to be smart and strategic about the attack and the pressure that's for for us.
So everyone's got a game and we're down by four points.
We've got a minimal outside it's our game to win.
They've never been in this position before.
This is the first time in the state championship we've been here before.
Don't force to play.
Just take our time.
So Liberty pushes the tempo again.
The right hand short on the three by love it After hitting that early three, he's been called ever since, but it's going to stay with Jonesboro after the Charleston down to 314.
His offensive substitution.
Good job for getting Cooper back in the coach need an offensive unit here on the court with right now you've got calls in the game zone and he's an offensive lob deal to hear from down the stretch defensive player of the year in the region and they couldn't get it inbounds so they have to call a timeout that leaves Jonesboro with one.
All right.
This is what you said earlier in the day.
But coach said of the half time, Coach John Defensive insists they're not they're starting to pick it up now.
Offensive execution, They're starting to pick it up now.
Role players we've talked about all day long, the role players have to step up because M.J. Walker can't do it alone.
The role players hasn't been as effective as he's wanted tonight, John.
And now you're down by six points.
Rebounding at the half 2412 Liberty count, all those second chance points that Liberty County was getting, those have gone a lot less to this point.
Take it out, rebound it 1811 but a lot of those by Jonesboro since the half have been on the offensive side.
Yes yes.
And that's part of the play that coach may have been talking about.
He has to be more aggressive, more assertive.
And what we're trying to do, trying to go for an alley oop with A.J.
off the glass.
No, take him back to him.
That area as he talked about, having to game the offensive end.
I think that's partly because his offensive unit is to put himself in a position to get that call.
Why?
On the drive on Derrick Cooper And that's for a helmet.
CAMPBELL Yeah, I can do this job.
It was it was this guy next stand his ground before contact.
Ty Cook was falling to the basket.
Falling back.
Yes.
That is a long shot to stick stationary to absorb the charge, contact Coach Newman so it doesn't matter.
I the movement.
Yes.
What Syracuse was doing, the pain for Good by Davion Mitchell marching back to five six fans after the Michigan State championship with 11 now all in the second half now guarding M.J. Walker at baseline steps.
And it's going to be a total triple double the games on no account getting underneath him a little bit.
Booker gets frustrated and still frustrated by the charge.
He's got to learn how to let that play go.
Have cost the team the state championship foul on zero technical foul call on Sarah Cooper.
Let's take another look.
Let's see what happens.
The count oh with officials didn't see that lit count got a little hit on the head with the ball and out of frustration Cooper reaction responded to it.
Here's your technical on COOPER So Davion Mitchell goes to the line for the team went down.
I do love this kid, Mitchell John Junior.
He's going to get better.
As athletic as he is, he's got a great body.
No good IQ for the game.
Now, Bruce curls in the steal again, coming off one 4 to 12 total.
And it all started with this dunk.
It all started I mean sometimes, John, you just need one thing that gets you over the hump and his wasn't his signing system transition Jonesboro cold free throws in the second half they missed their last four after starting out 615 Liberty 716 Mitchell has scored 12 points in 13 plus minutes off.
No good second chance, no off the shelf.
Ball's going after it with Jalen Frazier.
It's going to go to Jonesboro at 227.
And John, you know, I was just going to say that's where Jonesboro is going to Miss Cooper, because he was able to get some rebounds inside and help on the offensive and defensive glass.
Jenkins to M.J. Walker Long three launches threw to trying to draw the foul he did I think he's been watched a lot of NBA time sometimes you can kick that leg out some contact because it was a good contest up top but I think down low There was some contact below the waist.
Davion mitchell called for the foul as Walker just threw the ball up to try to create something that was created three free throws out of it.
Mitchell Second most free throw.
We've seen a lot of that already here in day one, a lot of free points missed, but fouls on the three well I'll say defensively about closeout and he is going to contest every shot so you don't have to block it you just need a consistent you can test it in a way that you don't foul the shooter.
And the shooter has it right.
He has a Harris space to go up and come down defensively.
You got to respect that group of three Walker with 19 the margin is four and see that was a huge play for Jonesboro John three point play and the clock stops the clock stops foul on Tyreke Jenkins will go to the other end Walker with eight in the quarter and the foul is on Jenkins his fourth which may not be a bad foul I mean you know you had Richardson going to the free throw line I don't think he's been there all night long so you know he's got a few now.
Yeah got a pass he's been there twice so he's got to prove himself here with this late in the game.
John with two pointer to go 3 to 3 Richardson with 16 to 17, the margin six.
And John, he's proved himself Give me a top junior rising three next year here in the state I mean the kids come out here the state championship game 17 points hitting making big plays and big shots here down in the clutch, trying to create again as M.J. Walker Jenkins chased after the miss out of bounds last touched by Jonesboro goes to Liberty County at 207 Second verse from Walker Lob That's a dangerous pass and a turnover and two and possibly three down We've seen the momentum shift back and forth each play of the game and the way to come back and win to come back is also a point an old fashioned three point play and score when is when the clock is stopped.
John Dicey pass on the inbounds intercepted fouls on lost count his third three point play cuts it to three Richardson and Tyreke Jenkins on Mitchell gets past Quarles tries to create off the right hip No hands in and a foul on Josh Harris that'll be his third and one if you coach Stokes you see him Jonesboro I might call a timeout right here just ice MJ before the free throw call a timeout just to Isom and now you can coach you take it Yes Imagine Walker's heating up.
John, I know you got a minute and 48 to go, but he's in rhythm.
And sometimes, John, you know, on the floor for the loose ball stones, please wake up that sleeping giant he missed made his last five free throws.
Getting to that point, Liberty leading by two la count with the teardrop.
And that's a big time play on transition basketball being up four points big time play for the town Tyreke Jenkins and a smart timeout called by Will Richardson He was outnumbered on the baseline Let's take a look at 23 Dart Well they got to play it like they're playing John Richardson attacking play He's under control Nice teardrop nice finish over the guys down there Jonesboro you know this guy right here that counts.
On if there's an MVP You got to give it to him just doing something and he's going to win this game.
The town has a team.
What's going on in the Liberty Huddle right there?
Huddle like a proper hotel?
Yeah, just like Jones, because he's still out of basketball.
But now we've got to get skills.
We got this last minute and a half, and you see, Liberty County is on play our game, guys.
Just play our game.
Officials think they're reading scores in the fourth inning.
Joe Lockhart has nine of his 28.
Richardson has six of his 17 beyond.
Mitchell, just under 90 seconds picked up.
Mike Wall is a double team.
What happens sooner or later?
20 threes battling for town Drive.
I've missed it.
No second chance back from Jonesboro.
Jay Walker out of control.
Get the calls Jenkins will drive.
Dish it out of the hands of Jamari Smith turnover at 105.
That to me was the play of the game for M.J. Walker.
We talked about the role players.
Role players have to make the play well just the ball just went to the offensive man the steal role players have to make the play touchdown pass completes Davion Mitchell being chased after by Quarles Richardson got the three bringing it out of traffic Where's the foul coming from Jonesboro That's the big question worth 50 seconds There it is Tyreke Jenkins that's five He's out he goes down but 6 seconds to go.
You want to make it a two possession game.
We're getting these two here down the Richardson has got to latch on to score for the night He's asked the same the color commentary Jenks brought to you by Sean Golden in 46.5.
I couldn't let that one go.
Could not be going.
You could not have not left it for Richardson the John.
I mean, he's just he's nice.
I mean there are this is been this is Keith Jones for five the chance to a free throw line here in the fourth quarter Liberty seven three.
So he's showing this sense of toughness and guys being able to strike John that's a big time free throw there by the sophomore Richardson margins 519 Watch a quick spot up and throw here behind the back gets the two time out and that was a nice place behind the back nice smooth M.J. Walker But as one on five John I mean you know he's a heck of a player inside out behind the back way to avoid time contact inside but you can't expect that good of a players he is John you can't expect one player to win the game.
Do you need a role players three step that step tonight official statement a left hand man M.J. Walker went behind the back right he's quick quick too.
They only burned about 6 seconds on the floor.
Let's go.
The blue dash dashes at the bottom of the screen under the work.
Jones Early.
Yeah, well, black tonight, John really hurt him to help them definitely in the back pocket.
But the 38.9 to go.
John's got to be a quick foul tonight.
First, getting a quick foul and let's just try to make this, you know, multiple possession games with quick baskets in transition and it's bound to get balanced with his passing.
Talk about it, get one game on his shoulders in 24 minutes, 11 points, 7 minutes, 21 seconds, 11 points.
The count looking to inbound as you go long to Richardson Yes.
Walls they call wall.
They call the wall steps.
First they call to call they call the ball.
That was great defense by great features by Jones Just fantastic patience.
All right Run through that for me yeah just Smith this comes up and you've got Richardson has to know that he has a defender behind him he's got to be careful and cautious They're in transition against the press, all kinds of people to stop their turnover.
All right by Jones for that Steps Call was the first turnover Liberty County had in the fourth quarter and 13th overall inbounds back to lookout guarded by enjoy Walker just to strip in the foul but the foul by love it was his second for 25 and a half the 24 year old head coach Julian Stokes three Liberty County on the whole offense for the first championship in any sport, the dicey pass.
But the quick two down, 218 seconds, remember Jonesboro, they have the foul, they had no timeouts, foul a timeout foul at 14.1 Liberty County in the fourth quarter to this point, as Davion mitchell sinks the first 12 of 13 from the line Mitchell has 14 John Big ten free throws here down the stretch here for Liberty County M.J. Walker tries to force something up doesn't happen gets his own rebound.
They're running out of time.
As that ball circles the rim doesn't fall out of bounds.
At 1.9 the time.
You can feel the energy here.
And just listen to this crowd, John.
Just listen to this crowd coming off the bounce off the 2000 Liberty County first ever state title for the school and the county and a 24 year old shall lead them quarter champs, Julian Stokes cannot believe their only loss of the season one point double overtime loss to Statesboro when they got the football players back.
And we've seen with the football players like the number 23 can do.
What do you think?
Positive.
Congratulations.
You just came out here.
Wheels up to a state championship.
You're so proud of Coach Scott and his ability to get these kids ready to play this game tonight.
