What Cobia.
State Farm.
Dodge.
And by viewers like you.
Live from the arena at Gwinnett Center.
It's the Georgia save for a state basketball championship featuring the Tucker Tigers and the Maize Raiders.
And good afternoon, everybody, and welcome to the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
This place is packed for the for a boys championship between the Tigers and the Raiders.
The Tigers come in out of Region six.
The last time they won a title was 1996.
Meantime the Raiders are from Region five and they are the defending state champions The two guys to call this a courtside are Charles Warren and Herb White.
Hey, guys.
Hey, Jimmy.
And welcome, everybody to Courtside.
Charles Ward.
Herb White.
Glad you could join us.
Herb Two teams that have almost mirrored styles in terms of a very fast paced approach to basketball.
Let's start out we'll talk about the Tucker Tigers first and their offense and how they got here and the performances that we're going to see this afternoon.
Hey, I guess we could call them the challengers since is the defending state champions.
Tucker is really a fine offensive team.
There you see Cameron Tatum.
He's a man to watch for them.
20.7 points, 7.7 rebounds.
Great offensive player for the Tucker Tigers Charles.
And he's just a junior.
He's got a lot of moves he can really get up in the air.
Has Tatum one of the leaders on that team?
He'll get a lot of help this afternoon from this group as we take a look at the starting lineup for the Tigers of Tucker Boatright at the point guard position.
Tatum we just talked about him the guy Todd Clear and also Damian Duncan the point guard for this team.
Somebody that the base team will have to look after all afternoon long.
Such a prolific player for as we take a look at the coach for the Tucker Tigers James Harter James Harter is comes from a great basketball family and he's just a fine coach.
Been in DeKalb County about a dozen years and got his Tucker Tigers into the championship.
And there's Rashod Chase, the man to watch for the Mays He is a do it all kind of guy 16.7 almost nine rebounds a game and he steals a couple of balls a game and he's a strong inside presence.
Baze is going to try to pound it in there most of the game.
And there you see the starting lineup up front.
Michael Rapp What are the odds going to keep an eye out?
Simmons As well?
Chase We talked about done Duncan Dunson up front, but also Brey at the point guard position for Mayes, just as prolific as the point guard for the Tigers.
BREY Going to really take control of this basketball game for Mayes.
They anticipate, as you take a look at the head coach of of the Mayes Raiders, coach Floyd Mack, nine years at the helm.
He's had some great success over at Mayes.
And I've talked to both coaches a little bit before this ballgame.
We get set for basketball action here from the arena.
To do that, we'll toss it to the public address.
ANNOUNCER David Witherow.
Here are your starting lineups.
First for the Tucker Tigers that guard a61 senior number 11.
Damian Dunker at forward six five, Junior number 23, Cameron Payton at seven or six to junior number 31.
Michael McKinley down at forward six for junior number 33.
Greg Boak Right.
And got guard, a six foot senior number 35.
Todd Clear and the Thunder Tigers are coached by James Hart three and now the starting lineup for the Maze Raiders at guard on five seven senior number five the younger blue you at forward six foot senior number 15 Ramone Michael that's sitter six seven Senior number 20 Rashod Chase at guard now 511 senior number two honor guard for three and that forward six for senior number 43 guards.
The Raiders are coached by Floyd Mac senior year officials for this year.
Starting lineups have been introduced here at the Arena and that center will step aside for a timeout.
And tipoff comes your way next.
Let's start this list.
Mr. Scott Snyder Yeah, this is Scott here.
And I mean, come on.
Well, let's and welcome back to the arena when center as we get set to tip it off and for reaction.
But before we do that, we have our own version of Dr. Field at GPB.
It's Phil Proctor standing by a sideline.
Doc, what's the prescription for today?
Charles, you'd be impressed with this.
The prescription for the day is defense, 32 minutes from baseline.
The baseline calls it a lot of turnovers getting into the transition game, seeing who can take advantage of it.
Also, the athleticism of both these teams, you're going to see guys doing things.
You're probably going to have your mouth open, going, How did they do that?
They're very talented but not as talented as you guys.
Back to you.
50 bucks is on its way, so we just have to find what we're talented at.
Charles is somebody that's searching for life.
Some players that are talented are right there at center court getting set the starters officials for today Baldwin Twitter, Kim Germain and David Jenkins with a play call and the Raiders may will have the basketball first very talented group out of that he's going to the Far East to cheer for that region this year.
Right.
Five overall all shot in basketball comes away to the Tigers first step down on the offensive end of the floor, dunking so quick working it inside the paint holes.
Right.
Can't handle it And go back to the Raiders.
A maze a little tight on both teams early on but Phil's exactly right defense.
I talked to both coaches before the game and they figure this one is coming down to defense and it usually does in the championships.
Starved top bugs now at seven.
So defense by the Tigers early on is a little bit of a surprise going into its own two one to dance it will pick it up the key shot at hard back includes four Tucker alley oop for the stuff Cameron Tatum Well there's one of the ones Dr. Phil was talking about.
That's a jaw dropper right there.
Cameron Tatum, both elbows up over the hoop, Coach Floyd taking the quick time out.
As a result, they do not want Tatum to get off the loose this afternoon.
Yeah, I was talking to a Coach Mac before they were Coach Hartford before the game here.
We'll see it again.
Just watch the elevation here.
Beautiful.
And Damian Duncan with the feed.
Those two guys worked so well together, but Coach Autry said he was going to make Mase prove they could shoot from outside.
Now, he didn't tell me they were going to play zone.
They like the man to man, but they are.
They're going to make Mase prove they can shoot from outside and really pack it in against Rashad Chase Strong inside players going on to Georgia State.
So Bass going to have to hit some jump shots today.
Coach Harper taking a page out of the ballgame against at the base of the barriers of the final day to try to old well made in the man Now though Charles take a look at that They've already swapped up space inside the paint through the glass shots all off but he draws a foul.
So coach swapping up his defense, he may be changing them after the basket.
A lot of coaches will do that.
We'll see.
Chase rolls out of the line.
It's Chase Hollywood.
Phenomenal part of it for the Raiders gets the first step along with a 62% field goal shooter.
And if the stats don't lie for Tucker Cameron Tatum's 70% from two point field goal range this year and if he gets many unlike like that last one, I can see why he tries to average pretty quickly back the other way.
Now, Tucker, with the basketball left quarter, they work at the note right at the block to be able to clear theirs.
Tatum hit the jump shot it badly Airball but it's going to be clear by Tucker Boatwright had a hit but was fouled up front You can already see the quickness of Tucker Charles they are really quick maybe an ill advised shot just a moment ago but they do have some quickness at Orlando.
That said to see you go to the line at least on another wave at off guard shooting to talk with you about the basketball.
All right.
Three.
Yes.
So, Tucker, with the other lead, Chase rocks it at the baseline.
Hit the glass.
Nicely done by Chase Hughes.
He's a load inside.
Nobody can match up with him, man to man.
For Tucker to play back the other way, both right between those shots off the mark and chasing that is going to battle back way for the Raiders.
They'll look past it clear was there to pick it off and his passes deflect it over here comes all the yard whistles inside the Simmons going to the rack.
I hope our official crew is in shape tonight.
Charles this one's going to be up and they're talking to coach back before the game, asking him about the two great players from Tucker and and Cameron Tatum.
There you see the foul on the drive to the basket.
Ask him what he is going to do, anything special for those guys.
He said no.
So they're both great shooters.
We played a team from Utah in a tournament at Christmas, one of those national tournament teams, while you can say they played a team from Utah, could shoot better any high school team had ever played against and won that one.
So fingers, they can do the same today.
We'll see if that plays off Simmons best on the second basketball.
Back now to the Tigers full court press about by the way to base clever work it up the floor all the way up the bottom and the talk out of owls it is stay with times to just the way this for a championship ballgame as clear handles out for us Patrick across the floor he goes Duncan on the left side for the grass left at short chase clears and if they back the other way with the feet, if they run it five if someone's off the mark, rebound.
Michael back way back to the glass and he got it to fall.
Picking up full court pressure.
This is the matchup to watch Duncan and great how they work out at the quarter at top two clear out the left side inside the paint with the pass they get shots off the on but he had a good look at put it down Baze quickly back the other way or they get the layup by Brandon Booster of Damian Duncan against going to take it to the hoop the other guard's got to get back because Mayes is definitely going to take off and run once they clear it off the boards.
Raiders 53a timeout taken on the floor This is the backup James much at the tigers of Tucker just what we thought thus far for very fast paced ball game as we take a look at Houston all the sprint and lay in for the Raiders Yep there you see nobody back for Tucker and I think that's what Coach Hartford may be addressing over there.
That's the only thing about having a guy that likes to penetrate.
You got to be aware and somebody's got to be back.
Especially with a team like Mayes, it's got to clear it and get down the floor.
Is it more difficult for a team that plays fast paced offense to get back defensively, have a slower paced offensively?
No, not really.
Okay.
That'll suffice.
It's just a matter of being mentally alert.
Tucker, with this basketball program handles up top.
Almost started by the ladies.
Okay.
Right side sandwiches, potato chips with the glass with the ladies.
Right.
That's great.
Wraparound pass right there, way back the other way as the Raiders lead down by one tackle.
That's the way that torpedoes it.
That's it.
Now Chase Glass back into the basket Do the glass at the got it Nice turnaround jumper by Chase He's got about three or four inches on any Tucker player and he's also a lot stronger so they're going to work him down low.
He's put out a great three pointer.
He falls, work them on the dribble and raised the bar, got the three pointer and Duncan with about four or five inches on Brey as well.
So they looking to take advantage of that out front.
Todd at ten now that's it up top unclear what a jump off of him off the mark Baze will have another look three for three Got it.
So he answers Duncan's three with his old offensive foul called on Duncan in the backcourt Elizabeth veteran teams Charles with May starting five seniors and coming back from a state championship.
You got to figure they're going to be pretty much relaxed going into this one solid at the ball game against the basket.
Griffin at a 70 finals, a very close contest, but Baze kept its composure and able to win that contest 5854 to get him here.
The finals.
Donald, what about got a great outlet for Tucker.
They got it down low but he's to beat as well.
They'll get a goal tonight that touched the ball well it was on the cylinder inside the replay Houston just behind the defense Tucker there caught between that man defense and trying to get it to his old buddy Houston, able to get behind them, which is tall enough to pass over the defense by five guys, Put it back the other way.
It's taken away by those up the court.
That's exclusive.
That's a little bit late for those.
My goodness.
That's about as quick a transition as you're going to say what an outlet pass the way you like to pull it out.
Go water left side to the east now pass it it on away.
Tatum will try to get it inside through the pass away.
Baze has it again on offense a little too clever on that play and some dangerous time right now for Tucker Brown again they go behind the zone with the pass to Houston.
Gray with a nice goal look pass and Houston with the gimme score some other time out by Tucker Tucker's going to have to make a couple of defensive adjustments, Charles.
Too many easy baskets, too many passes like you're talking about behind the defense.
You can't do that.
And two or three turnovers as well down here on the other end trying to force it.
So it's got to calm down a little bit and pick it up on the deep.
You take a look at that replay download of Houston site play.
We talked about the defense upfront a bit.
Houston about three steps behind him.
He's getting an easy lay.
Not enough pressure on the ball out front to allow a player to make that pass.
He's almost got to sits there that sequence that Tucker's not quite used to having to stay out of that zone or go into it that early in the ballgame right now, Raiders taking advantage of it.
That's a good point, Charles.
They're basically a man to man team.
And when you swap up at this time of the year, sometimes you don't play that zone as well as you might.
And that was a big three pointer by Brady a little while ago, too, because we saw that he can do that on a fairly consistent basis.
Got to pull that zone out just a little bit and open it up even more for for the rest of the teams in the Raiders.
Defending state champs at the foray division.
Tucker's last appearance in state finals right 99, Tucker with a great program.
Even back when I was playing coach Casey Johnson and Bob Ball, a great player there, going back 30, 40 years.
I hate that a lot.
About foot and ankle, dropping away with the defensive assignment on Low to the BLOCK.
What's his other play deal will come out of that going to the lives of Tucker Tucker doing a good job on the initial penetration but they've thrown a couple of away and he's got of slide in there so they're having a hard time getting their shots off once the pass has been made.
But we've had a first lead now is eight by Baze all this season Michael six points eight rebounds per alley for the Tigers.
Let's see what kind of defense Tucker comes out in here after the timeout he has done the second tackle by the way clears for the Raiders up the floor Houston to have a defense once a good Dre will handle it all for Houston the other right side it's on Houston all the way to the glass shot it hard though Heights was only about as clear by Tatum and Tucker back the other way.
What a guy reacts to three hit the fun of the senator Chase clears out and shot away He had the back through the glass.
my God.
Great.
Great.
my goodness.
So quick.
So awesome.
Five foot seven Seager Sticking for the lay in and extending the Bay's lead.
Got it out front.
All right side the way guarded closely up top he goes with the pass boogie now at the block What a character thought I could do the five that's great hands by McGee never really had control of that pass and then has to keep it on his fingertips and get just enough to spin to get it off the glass and in.
And I'm going to tell you to have a guy like Gray guarding the whole game.
Charles Five, seven.
And he'll bother you around the shoelaces all day.
You just want to get a stick and hit it.
Coach Right.
Lucas through the shows had the perfect description of it.
He said it's like guarding a mac in a phone booth.
He's just that quick.
We saw him out here doing some sprints before the ball game and sprint.
He was doing maybe gardening that a phone booth blindfolded The replay.
You saw Woodard with the lay in for Tucker try to cap off at the ball play it he does so from the line where he stumbles at a tired up jump ball called a good job by Woodard.
They're out there trying to give Brady a little bit of his own medicine, putting some pressure on the ball outside.
You you got to be careful trying to do that because he can't go by you.
But it certainly work that time.
Temperature by the basketball court and across the Pablo Rodriguez upper pod expires at the end of the first quarter.
So good first quarter for the Raiders, a base high school.
They lead 2114 over the Tigers of Tucker High.
We'll step aside for a timeout.
We'll start the second Mays leading at 2114 as we get set to start the second quarter.
Before we do that, let's go back sideline to Phil Proctor.
Charles, you know, we saw DeAndre Brady just just do a lot of incredible things in the first quarter.
I asked coach Mack how important is his senior.
He says he is the heart and soul of this team even though he's only five seven.
He plays like a six footer.
He's got the heart of a lion and a deejay.
Right.
Committed to Jacksonville State eight of a cheetah.
I'm sorry, Charles.
Go ahead.
Go to Jacksonville State.
That's about it.
About the basketball just in front of us for Baze to get us started.
Three or four turnovers in that first quarter and Mayes converted those into fastbreak baskets.
And that's basically the difference so far.
Chase Grant heads up a just inside.
The three points are going to go for two, but Chase with the basket so Chase can work it inside and outside as well.
Nice looking stroke on the big fella Georgia State.
Look, you're back with an output.
Look to the right side all the way through the glass shot off and he drew the foul.
It's the move by Coach Hartley.
Damien Duncan usually handling the ball most of the time for this Tucker offense.
But Coach has put Woodard in to play defense against Bri.
Take a little bit of the load off of Damien Duncan and also take a little bit of the offensive load off.
He was trying to force a few things early.
What a convert.
So the first saw his season stats a little ago.
You talk about Tate, about handling that basketball, saw that in the semifinal ballgame as well, about a five at a stretch.
Well, he did not handle it, and that's what Sandy Creek cut the lead play back across the tide.
Blood at the block, chased by the fact swatted out of bounds by Tatum as close to having reached its arc and start it down but they're going to let it go the Mays ball let's take a look very close great leap it's no matter what so it'll stay with Baze now three in the right corner fires a three pointer airball and it'll belong to Tucker.
It will be picked up at the back court by Dotson.
Right top Duncan back from defensive.
Look inside basketball back to base three with the past number one the loss of it's just like the plus two sweet little bitch there about the no look scoop pass and a nice finish by Simmons the three is going to stay and guard Damian Duncan I thought he might take the ball but he's staying with Damian Duncan.
He is really bothering him down there on the offensive end, even though he's given up five or six inches.
So that's the senior shoots up from the line left at short rebound clear by Tatum and Tucker still by those three trying to get it up the floor but Tucker takes it back Tatum walks it left side that hit the paint the ball back to the way he didn't call it but they're going to give it to him anyhow and quickly back the other way.
It's a chance for today's ladies.
But his shot rejected Tatum with another block waiters try to cut it to that Beasley and the move Tucker has a three pointer and not much break can do about that Duncan just caught it went right up with it four point lead now for the Raiders three at the block.
He gets the sentence tied up.
Take it away by winning.
Run it up to Florida.
Duncan gets to the glass rapping over sat at the Tatum that Tatum cleans it up Woodward making a difference in this ballgame for Tucker.
Charles is coming and giving him some spark on the defensive end especially Mayes by the quite the crowd with a basket Houston out front Tucker is back to to a23 defense that part of the court that's a poor foul a three pointer put the back of the cylinder comes commonly used to throw that's the work by what out of the quarter is not going away but it'll stay the way he's led to the floor.
And Woodard is all over the court for Tucker right now, and he's definitely changed the complexion of the game.
Take a look at Coach Autrey for Tucker Tigers gonna be pleased to see the last couple of minutes of the squat He started the quarter trying to find Rashad Chase Good job by Tucker so far this trip down the floor that's probably what they handles now up to to get out of the five better Parker lady first half foul they get it to Chase XIV up through the double team Got to set it made it very patient this trip down the floor chase a double take but they get a bump inside it looks like Mike McGee came up from behind gave the full arms into the back so they will get bothered once again Gray hair, those up top guards at the back row coming to the basket, his shots off the mark.
The bodies collide inside.
Looks like McGee again For Cameron Tatum playing up front of that zone.
They get his arms up.
They could never get the ball into Rashad Chase, playing with his arms down, No foul called on the play They just stay with Baze over the the floor.
That's right That's it up there The top line Jared Chase calling for the ball inside seven to Houston Houston back to Simmons now chase up the block had it stripped away but a foul committed inside by Tucker Woodward reaching in trying to help out.
That's the plan.
If they get it inside the block, the chase, you see, they're really a double team by the by the Tucker Tigers that's good patience by Mays on offense that time though not forcing up the long range jumper Chase converts the first one but just waiting waiting Rashad Chase working hard to get open inside finally drew the foul chase.
They start the second ends.
The basketball belongs to the Baze Raiders.
Tucker had it down at the block, although what happened was they lost it out of bounds of stay with Baze there to the floor.
They lead it 2623 Houston on the move for the glass reverse lay it shot fell off and he draws another foul extended trip down the floor for Hayes here he is also take a look at the replay Houston turning the body almost got that one to fall.
All the players will go to the line to see the convert.
So the first is Terrance Richmond checks it to the Tucker Tiger line up where he's put all this season eight points three rebounds for our best of the second Tatum clears outside pass to Woodard right side What a pass chase had to get the layup get it to the senator loose on the floor comes away with it to Tatum hits shots off the board Great is up the court of Chase bounce pass that's knocked out of bounds by Richard advice without getting back defensively so Tucker had two on one he played it perfect stayed distance between the passer and the receiver and was able to deflect the pass so Baze talked about it.
They do so quickly to Simmons he squares takes the jumper shot at short but very the ball game long to take it there Best basketball stays at the Baze there to the floor Great will head it out for chase try to get it inside the paint for Wofford in the quarter to Houston and stay close to Pitt to take what that Tucker defense is getting up look keep it out for as long as they have to great I'll pass Whiteside back about the way shot swatted out of bounds Good defensive work by Jeremy seven pick sophomore six foot six put in the mid on it knock on that you're right Mays content trying to draw Tucker out of that zone Houston with the jump off of about ten on the corner he got it to fall Baze with full court pressure lead is six Warren walks it up top left side passed Houston up top to the sophomore seven six shots off the board There's a pick back by Duncan He just got a second opportunity It draws a foul good board work here by Tucker managing to keep it up and get the shots.
Always for your reference to Tate Reeves, first half in the upcoming Blazers comeback, answer in Tucker's little run there and Edge back out by six again welcome at the Tate go to that city final ball there had get said they create that but what a two overtime Tatum also had 31 for Tucker and an excellent exciting semifinal matchup Well we've all heard of Lewis Williams and Mike Mercer from South Gwinnett.
Everybody says these two guys are the next best team in the state.
Probably didn't get their due because of the other two guys getting so much press and well deserved, it might add.
These are right but you're absolutely right.
They tough it.
You talk about the next set of players it's Dalton Tatum not top subject partially deflected but they will regain coaches at a little block of 80 contact after that the left side out of the quarter he used it like he might have got away with a carry there Charles real trouble down low he's got a nice pass by Blake here get the assist Houston with the lay it boy that's really a clever pass there that's all timing and it's worked perfectly That's a good play record Bishop by Dre Tatum on the left corner raises with the jump the foul ball out of bounds with the 18 footer 3127 the base with the lead at basketball Wow Chase glass to the glass first.
That's not his first but he's got a hold of who Not exactly Jason Chase not to be denied all that play in the paint could weave that a tie and out of the arc for Tucker.
Now Cross River advocate kicks it back down three the shot by ticks off the ball able to chase a base chase going to the glass shot it hard but he draws the foul back Scott Dixon trying to catch up with the play.
that's a strong move.
Chase knew he was going to take a shot from the defender, jump from way outside the lane.
Here you go.
He knew he was going to get hit.
Took it strong anyhow.
Mays drawing the foul on Dixon Clean play, though hard hit.
The both players were up in the air chase short of the first cuts of the reports back for beautiful base he replaces Houston.
As you look at Chase's numbers and other points four rebounds thus far.
Chase got the second of two, but the coach backs got to be very pleased with the minutes he got from Houston off the bench.
Houston with a 5 to 4.
That's for the medicines had thus far.
Tucker, back the other way.
Does that want to get left side all the way to the glass kept it on the Sullivan clear by chase they got a forearm to Hayes had it but the had at the fouls committed by Tucker right Rashad Chase took that one with authority looked like the last chicken leg at a church picnic.
The way he went after that thing, Charles gets to Coach Carter how to take a look at him at the sideline as you get about 32 seconds remaining here, what do you get this stuff?
Do you ever eat dinner with my family?
You know what I'm talking about.
Those two from the last days is largest lead of the contest.
Malcolm.
Okay, get out for 5 seconds violation, but could see by to have a good play and bite on that with Herb just dribbling out.
But Bradley is really second, but he's really upset his tempo and rhythm.
You can tell Duncan is usually able to out quick most of the guards that are playing against him and he just can't do that with Gray.
No.
How many how many moves he puts on it.
And he's just not getting much done out front right now.
It's an excellent analysis on that because Gray is right there at his face.
The Raiders now with a chance to close out this first half of the basket, 12 seconds as gray hair goes out right now.
He'll walk up, kicks it in the corner, probably with the jumper shots off the market rebound about Tucker, but not to get that shot to the glass and it fell off the off starts with a chance to convert the jumper at the end of the first half.
It fell short so it'll be a 3627 lead for Baynes going into the break feel Procter standing by with coach back feel all right Coach Mack and we talked before the game we talked about this being a defensive effort is exactly that is exactly that you know and and Tucker has some great out there he's getting up and down the floor and we can be successful running with him.
You know, when he gets out that 23, whatever what's his DNA?
He can play play man.
He can do anything.
He moves well without the ball.
So we can't get up in that running up and down.
We've got to be patient court martial.
We've got to go through.
We saw it and everything we do.
What are you going to do?
Anything different the second half?
Nothing.
But he's got to step up and rebound a little bit.
Better be a better interior defense.
All right.
Good, good.
Good luck, Coach.
Back to you there, Charles.
Okay, Thanks, Phil, as we get set for the intermission at the break, Mayes leading at 3627 on what Tucker will step aside for a I'll come back with the halftime show and welcome back to the arena at Gwinnett Center As championship weekend rolls on you see Mayes with a half time lead over Tucker 3627 in the background, Rigdon and Collins Hill, the girls getting ready for their five a state championship game.
Let's go courtside and Phil Proctor Phil Hey, Jim.
You know, you told me you thought I would always stay in the principal's office.
Well, I'm standing between two principals right now.
Scott Butler from Tucker High School and Dr. Tyron Smith from Mars.
And, Dr. Smith, we'll start with you first of all, congratulations.
I thank you, sir.
We appreciate it.
Want to give you an opportunity to talk about that great med school and the programs you got going over there.
We like to consider ourselves as a great school, a high performing institution.
We're lucky to be here tonight.
We worked hard.
We have a good coaching staff, a great group of kids.
You'll see it demonstrated in the Spirit tonight.
But most of all, we want to be about academics and our student performance in the classroom and how well they demonstrate and represent themselves out in the community.
And how does that fan support?
Ben, I know you guys have been probably fired up this week.
the fan support has been really fantastic.
The school spirit this week is awesome and that's the type of climate we want to maintain throughout the school year.
And if they can continue this and let it spread over and to the T and ELC and AP exams, then we're in great shape.
One more question.
I know you got math and science program over there.
That's incredible.
Tell us about it.
Amaze High School is the math and science a magnet for the Atlanta public school system.
So our students are entering with emphasis in the math and sciences and therefore they are interested in science, obviously in medical school and biomedical research.
And they demonstrate that in international festivals and Congresses and symposiums.
Well, it's not like you guys got a lot of great things going over there.
I also know that some things going over at Tucker with Mr. Butler here.
I want you to tell us a little bit about your school.
Well, you know, we're very proud of Tucker High School.
We have what we call a lot of tradition in that school.
We're a school of tradition.
I think the thing we like most about Tucker's is a perfect balance in our athletics, our activities and our academics.
We have an international baccalaureate program.
And for those who don't know what that is, that's a rigorous curriculum that we have our students involved in.
We send some 90% of our young people off to secondary post-secondary education.
So we're really proud of everything that we do and I think proudest of what we have as a community support.
We have it, Tucker The whole town, the whole area, they're all Tucker Tigers.
And that's obvious every time we go on the road anywhere basketball, we've got this year's team.
It's just been so except for 127 ball games.
Coach has just done an excellent job with these young people and we do We're proud of what we have and we just have a lot of respect for our opponents tonight.
They're up here about seven or eight at the half, and I think we kind of like a Colt in his first race, and that may be so at this first final we've been in.
But our coaches are getting together to half and hopefully we'll come and make a good run.
It may just next happen.
All right, then.
Now, last night, you guys had a very, very emotional, I guess, an event at your school.
Tell us about it.
Well, as many people know, we had a high watermark last night when we dedicated our gym to coach William Venable, the coach and son, you lost your lives.
You had your lives taken last January and last night.
We're dedicated the gym, the gymnasium in Coach Venables, Honor Williams Memorial.
Williams Venable Gymnasium had a great crowd there.
We had a super program.
The family was there and it was just a step forward to bring this community together.
And it was just we were all happy.
We were just at a time of sadness, but yet it's just a time of excitement for us to honor just a great coach, his family and such a such a magnificent way.
Well, I want to thank you so much, Mr. Butler.
I want to thank you also Dr. Smith.
And it is true, Charles, that hanging around principles like this has made me a better man.
Back to you.
Maybe better question about the big Smarter, though, Phil We're back at courtside.
Good first half of basketball filled, particularly for the Raiders of Abby's high school.
As we take a look at some of the highlights of this for a championship all game had a lot of everything in that first half starting with the alley oop there to Tatum expected a lot of that from him Boatwright got into the shooting act with the jumper from the corner and back on offense as Boatwright once again this time taking the assisted Duncan for the dunk But on the here comes Baze back the other way doesn't beat the three and he got delayed for the Raiders on their two with north Take a look at this player great working his way inside the paint and got the layup but inside the paint it's chase on offense but they're with the block as Duncan comes back the other way and there's Tatum again with the follow and the dunk Baze back the other way Houston did that a couple of times in the first half got behind the defense Ah the easy lane for Baze in that first half there they lead it 3627.
Let's take a look at some of the first half stats Herb see if anything stands out at us.
Well, the field goal percentage both teams shooting well but Baze really most of their shots coming from inside are off the break So they're shooting a hot 59% not many three point field goals, turnovers about the same, rebound about the same.
And bench poise is pretty much the difference right now.
Charles Chase with the 14 points and four rebounds.
But the bench points is a critical thing for Baze.
Brandon coming off the bench branded Houston contributing to that Baze offense coming off the bench.
He's done it in the playoffs all season long, but he's got the spark for them tonight as well.
Right.
And I think you're going to see some more of Woodard back in the game for Tucker because he really made a difference when he came in and they need his defense and there may still need to get at the intermission will step aside for a timeout.
We'll come back with more from the arena at the at center starting the third quarter.
Mayes leading at 3627 over Tucker Phil Proctor standing by with Coach James Hattori.
Phil, All right, Coach Autry, down by nine.
What did you tell your team at halftime?
Well, well, what what happened?
The first that we we get too much.
We'll take it too.
But you can't get them on a team as good as made in the state champions.
We just want to stay in front these guys and play good, hard defense and not take so many gambles on this year.
This team is too good and to our coaching to just to for to be gambling on these guys.
These guys hurt you when you get them on them.
All right, Coach.
Well, good luck to you in the second half.
Thank you.
All right, Charles, back to you.
Thank you.
Feel Coach Hartley sounds a little bit like me.
Well, horses.
The voice had to do a good bit of holler in that first half, and it's pretty noisy in here.
He's right about that.
Mayes is a disciplined senior ball club.
And I know one thing Coach Hartley doesn't want to have to do.
He wants to get back in this game the third quarter because he does not want to have to come out, try to press a team like this with a ballhandler like break point leaders thus far.
Duke Duncan with 11.
Tatum by Tatum with eight at this point for the Tigers for Baze Chase with 14 He stood off the bench at 11 Braves got five and two players were two for the year that close half on the floor now working on the right side as McGruder draws a five and Tatum shot rejected by Simmons.
Phil Proctor talking to coach Floyd Mack prior to the intervention.
And you can get the sense that he conceded that he didn't want to get into a running game with Tucker thinking that maybe they could win, that he his team is better so they could slow it down.
But working off a chase inside the paint, yeah, I think the pace was really beneficial to Mayes.
They had the tempo.
They wanted that first half, the type of game they want, and it shows on the scoreboard.
You betcha.
The fact that Mayes is more of an experienced lead and with that experience team, he could do that.
He can take them out of a fast paced game, which is what they used to play and get him to do a half court date or they they're just as well offensively.
Well, those are big free throws for Tucker, one of the many how to get back to the point start the hand gray at the raiders across the timeline they lead it 3628 with the pass Nice pass to Michael Murphy and I thought he got the lay brains just so heads out front Cardinal rule he lost his man can't do that on defense Michael wrecked babe able to get to have that defense that time we saw Houston go up several times in the first half.
So Woodward back out front handling the ball, back and down on the block.
The Tatum got an airborne shots off the mark.
Chase clears with authority and he draws a foul and great job by Rashad Chase.
He really bothered Cameron inside there.
He would have made that shot.
But Rashad Chase was there up in the air to get a hand up.
He made the first pass.
Tiger showing full court press, you know, but they're up very well.
They're going up the floor four days easy.
Defending state champs.
Eight seniors are about to have those up top three.
That's right.
A man to man his half the game, what with the assignment at great left side Houston at the block.
Now Chase chased to the glass and got it because chase again that's the tough matchup for Tucker when they do go man to man.
Rashad Chase one on one is a load for any of the Tucker players to handle plays, knows exactly what they want to do on the offensive end of the floor to get it in the chase to get that shut down.
Now they got a defensive steal, chase up the floor, tapped away.
McGee cleared it for Tucker Duncan behind the back at the rich stripe took the jumper got it to fall Good control on that break.
Pulled up at the foul line and drained it.
I got get to prediction out about that in the second half.
Tucker does you still the right corner out of the post look at the left side two guys left on the syllable rebounds clear though Chase got it right side and got to lay in the fall.
Well it looked like Tucker had that rebound Rashard Chase came in with his strike, ripped it away from the Tucker player, stuck it back in no all way to call it.
He just wanted Eric Manhandle the basketball away coaching the five minute mark left in this third quarter the key left corner looks at the dunk Dalton give it to go to the DB again Got it to fall and he'll draw the foul Nice pass and McGee finishes with the left hand inside Now somebody is going to have to pick up some scoring slack for this Tucker team if they're going to control Tatum here we see the pass seems hit and nice finish.
We had a recognition by Doug Gordon on the pass Tatum is going to take a seat for a few minutes bring in the big soft from the line that we got to the ball so Simmons back on the floor for Tucker you could make it 11 here with the basket Woodward overplaying he's trying to make Brady go to his right because he's definitely a little strong to go left and he's got the five second call worked him back there the time line and Tucker gets the turnover.
When you're being closely guarded, you have to penetrate.
And Ray did not do that good job by would Tucker with a chance to cut into that Beasley with her left side to Tatum try to get it down low but he's stays up but he throws it over to Baze expect to chase it chase with the dunk from eight that was a strong flush and yeah you can't throw that inside pass We tried Tucker tried to make the throw inside from way up the court and it's just not going to work with a heads up defensive player like Rashad Chase Duncan back the other way for tougher to the glass shot rejected by chase it stayed under similar coverage scored a 77, got the shot to fall back the other way.
Now Baze throws it out of bounds and Tucker will have the basketball back and Coach Mack wondering why we're up nine.
No need to rush that one, fellas.
Take a look at the replay.
Good elevation and strength.
Now, Duncan out front for Tucker Working Pass chased by to get it to the set of a shot at high standards clear the air up shot outlet pass debacle at bay up the floor to chase the chase lays it at nicely left side bay hardly had the ball in his hands and he whipped the pass to Rashod Chase, who made like a big tight end and took it in, brought it back the other way for Tucker at the block.
He gives the biggie, the huge shot.
It's short Chase clears out left pass Michael left Bay from the left, tied up from behind.
He was fouled by what if he had got it allowed.
They're going to get an intentional foul.
That's going to be a tough call there for Tucker because they're going to get two free throws and the ball back.
Charles And they're already up 11. what a try to catch up with the play, grabbing that right elbow back at bay.
Yeah.
He didn't even make an attempt to get the ball.
And that's what you have to do in that situation.
So coach Hard, play that out of the jacket.
He gets two free throws, then Mayes will have the ball out of bounds.
Tough to shoot those free throws with that invaluable free throw line.
Not the way it's normally done.
You got the cheerleaders staring in the face.
That's about all you got there.
So So this is our both.
But they'll have the basketball that's kind of penalized the shooter.
They should probably make that.
Let's leave everybody in there.
Just don't jump off the Raiders parade out flood to get back to break out three picks.
Better for no rush now for bass work for the good one.
The pressure up front it work almost to take away but great handles right side nice going the pass Michael Bay to the senators out of the fun Ray is really got that little scoop shovel pass we just scooped it off the dribble Charles and a quick delivery to the open man Duncan fires a three he left it short gets his old rebound tapped around WHISTLE all the play saves another layup from there Tucker got the call on the reach in sight the call the clock on chase this is the third bucket out pop to water lost a lot of ways knocked it away to 43 remaining in the third quarter.
Dalton fires a three pointer.
This time he found the rage.
What do you think?
That's a huge basket for Tucker.
They needed that one.
Now.
They got to tighten up today.
Doug could do it.
That's why he took it.
Ten point lead now four lays up top chase.
They spread the floor, bring Woodward High.
Is he out or bringing the shot, Chase?
How is he out with great upside out of the the settings that the paper back out front to Doug's right at the two minute mark that was third quarter I don't envy Woodard his job out there chasing around with that ball Charles that's a hard day's night.
That's on the right side, back out to back.
RFA He's basically in the Four Corners now, a sign of things to come, perhaps in the fourth half.
We've got to patch it up to get that set for the travel by the Cross River.
Left side stumbled that the basketball belongs to Tucker Carroll.
Even though they turned the ball over, they ran about 40 seconds off the clock.
Charles.
So not a total loss.
Absolutely.
Tucker Can't afford to give up that much time on each possession being in double digits down then at 25 to 3, dunking to see if he'll fire another three, try to work it out flat out.
Great raises.
What the jumper missed obviously was inside the arc rebound comes away to Vegas heads to the glass shot rejected by Simmons It's loose out the floor now to stay with Tucker there but the floor Tucker all over the basket can't get it to go down.
Some tough luck there but they come up with it and have another possession.
Let's watch this great move.
But Simmons there, too, rejected, correct?
They had a hand on it for a moment.
Simmons again, back inside now work it to the right side He finally got it to fall eight point lead Lester Bennett minute third quarter let's see they're going to hold four one here Charles will get some free throws at the foul out but that fixable commits it back let's say we'll go back to the line team Coach Hardy calling for a call but I think the last time they called Kerry was about 12 years ago.
Yeah, the same as the three second call.
Don't see it much anymore.
Now go up the left side and get Tucker for the foul.
that's a tough call for Duncan.
There he was on the floor and he tripped over them.
They're going to make the call, though.
There was contact.
So Duncan commits the foul chase out front now from AIDS.
But what about city?
They threw it away.
Becomes clear to Dixon Dixon back the other way That's double aided by ball very clear surveys.
5 seconds later it comes back.
All right.
Bay dumps it down at the block, chased to the senator, left at short phase through all that had another good look at it to finish the third quarter they missed all the opportunity they lead it now the last 4840 over the Tigers of Tucker will step aside for the time out.
We'll come back and bring you the fourth and final quarter of the arena.
And to get that sense back to the sky, it's a very tough just like the Dragonfly above the trees over the sea.
We are back live at the arena to connect to the start of the fourth quarter.
Bay's leading at 4840 winner as you fight for each state of Georgia as Gray and Baze have it into the fourth quarter left side of Michael Bay Houston up top while Simmons in the quarter at the block chase they double that quickly tapped it out of bounds.
That was a big lay up Tucker right at the end of the quarter.
Charles And that situation is a huge team.
Well, three fouls for 10,000 Mase, four for Tucker and four timeouts for Mase, three for Tucker.
So each team in good shape with fouls and timeout, that's what they have to play the remaining seven but it's 30 seconds sevens at the block.
It skipped out of bounds by what little to stay with Baynes over there to the floor Tucker up in the tempo a little bit now going for the steal They've got to gamble something now even though Coach Carter he was talking about that at halftime.
Gamble pays off as Dixon comes clear with the steal right side He was chasing Houston take it out of bounds Good call by the backside official.
It did go off the leg of Dixon.
Baze will have the basketball.
Got a look up the floor.
He had a man in front of him dribbling with the head down.
Makes space takes to tie it up coach back recognizing that's Tucker's try to up that tempo as you take a look at the replay there Houston hit it it went off the leg of Dixon the official right on top of it.
Well, we could see it there.
But there was one other player out front and the opportunity for Tucker.
It's heroes like you that help make great local programs like these high school basketball championships possible.

Great girls game right before we came on, Charles had a while winning a state championship.
A really impressive team.
They had some big girls on that club.
That would be you, right?
They won the championship.
They're got another one coming up after this.
Just a couple of days of state finals.
Basketball GHC here at the Quad Exeter knows how to make it tomorrow to wonderful facilities for basketball, no doubt about it.
And we always look forward to make and get great crowds down there and a lot of stuff for the fans to do and make.
And if they're not at the ballgame, we do right the ball play, take it away by those couple targets And to the glass.
Tatum gets his first basket of the second half full court pressure by the Tucker Tigers tougher try to step it up a bit trailed by six Houston left side up top by battle that day.
We'll see how the secrets of Baynes respond at the block Simmons to the glass nicely diving good Hangtime there for Simmons looks like it might be blocked but he managed out hang the defense and stuck it in Duncan working out great alley oop pass to Tatum they got it there he got to lay there haven't done it much of this ball game but the times they've tried it it has worked for Tucker six point lead for Mays drive out front and now now the chase at the corner.
The one thing Duncan can do when he's guarding prey is make it tough for him to make the pass inside with his long arms and height advantage, scoffs Second violation.
That's segment on Mays.
In about three or 4 minutes.
They're going to have to be aware of that.
Tucker Stepping up the day now, Mays is can't take themselves completely out of their offensive rhythm.
They still got to look to score because Tucker's picking it up offensively now.
Basket here where they got a four point spread doesn't got a top rate behind the arc Tatum for three the river is off the mark three miles clear back backside sevens chase up the floor for these chase they go on with Tatum to the glass He got it to fall they get Tatum for the blocks I don't think he gave the basket looked like he got him on the floor up front.
We'll see if he's giving him one or two.
He's going to count the basket All the replay.
Yep.
Should account of it 30 Sounds as usual.
A good call by the official and I'm wrong.
Chase kid works on the three point play 550 remaining in the basketball game.
See if Tucker has any more gas left in that tank.
He made a run earlier this fourth quarter of basketball.
Set it to six.
Now it's back 5344.
Duncan for three shot at hard high rebound comes away to chase it made up the floor They got nobody back they give it to Houston Houston right side this guy the LED rebound by Savitz he's fouled in the paint well shot chase at three Tucker players trying to strip the ball out probably fouled him down here leaving a couple of guys open at the other end He wants he gets the rebound You might as well just get on back on defense.
You're not going to get it away from that guy.
They had about three of them standing around waving their arms at it with a nobody back up defense.
Simmons hits out the first set.
It's at 80% from the free throw line shows why he hit both there four days and he's been a key player defensively.
He's probably swatted three or four shots and intimidated two or three more.
Charles seven says Bucket.
Left side in the paint.
Russell on the play call the foul off chase It tries to play so Duncan will go to the line now to shoot to still time for Tucker eight to make the free throws be a fish on offense and get a couple of takeaways or make sure Baze only gets one shot down on the other end.
Tucker To hit both of the lead throws by dime.
That's at three of centers for that chase.
Inside the paint chase advanced to the basket that's got a shot rebound clear by exactly because Tucker the sideline by Houston not what Coach Mack wants to see they're gonna want to get the extra fouls especially down at this end of the floor get Tucker to where they're into the bonus before too long shoot two instead of just one one has what it handles at the back court for Tucker that now that the block get to the glass house just as good barely got that win over Simmons but it rattled home Houston on the turn he gives it chase Chase to the glass Nice running jumper Whiteside by Chase thought that was a bad shot at They stuck it in there that was big for Mays who could argue 57 $48 at the league.
Tucker With the basketball.
Duncan fires a33 out of the fall.
That was a big shot as well.
Great look by wood were there to find Duncan, his shooter in the corner for the 36 point lead from AIDS.
Plenty of time left a disruption and you got to get up on Chase, make him try to beat you off the dribble, chase back out front.
He goes, That's question is how, Charles, how much gas Tucker has got left in their tank to get out of pressure with his spread offense As you saw them earlier.
This spread offensive the third quarter, which was about a tad off the clock with it.
No question about Dre being able to handle that spread offensively.
He got about a minute for you to start thinking about intentionally fouling and sending the line, but you got to put a little more pressure on.
If you could put any pressure on anybody who Chase would him as a way away to the basket.
But they've got to get a lot more aggressive on him.
That's a right side.
The body picked it up.
They go to the glass bucket that short basketball clear the 70 seconds lost it all the way down in little contact drove off of Simmons leg And that was a huge play there.
Tucker needed the ball back on the replay.
You see, Dudley was trying to bank at home, but he shot at short sellers, just not able to collect the basketball.
So be interested to see Coach Hart, his strategy.
Now you go a little while longer, maybe try to pick up a steal or force him to take a shot.
You get the miss or do you start fouling now?
Charles Decisions.
They pay you the big bucks for their time.
The three time offer of 80 points, that was with two tucker, six fouls.
One more will be the one and one.
So they've got one to give here.
What try to do when you've only got six is go for the steal This championship game can also be viewed live on the GPB Internet site around the world at WW w dot GPB dot org.
Just follow the links to connect to the game.
Every game will also be archived and available later.
The GPB website as well.
That's w ww w dot gpb dot org.
Yeah, we had about 70,000 hits last year.
Charles on people looking at archives, football, basketball and cheerleading last year.
So folks are tuning in and watching that stuff throughout the year.
That's a good fake good program.
That's as great a lot of great players that we'll be able to archive for people to watch all of into the future.
I think the highlight last year, you're big.
Take it out with the weather today.
That's not what we hear around the table.
Back on the floor now, 3/10 of AIDS, three had those left side, you at the three minute mark at the block.
It's set of service to the glass.
That's a sharp basketball for four.
Finally cleared by Dixon and Tucker.
They get a break through the hole defensively while they have the basketball almost a must score possession for Tucker this trip Charles Duncan working out great right so offensive a lot of push off once again trying to force the action Duncan a little too much handle out front through the elbow.
He got frustrated.
So, you know, we talked about this off air there, about a frustration Braves putting out.
Duncan is just really taking him out of his element and leave out have Woodward handle the ball out front leave Bray open for that or leave but Duncan for the shot that might have been what coach actually wanted but it didn't happen correctly.
He was fouled there.
The red stripe reach by Woodward.
Yes.
To Houston.
Checking back in to the radar lineup, he replaces Brad that separates to go back to the lead a rest.
It's a deadly side that clips it to play football finishing up his basketball career missed at the large shot with the rebound put back by used to be this ball chase his shot is the board Michael let's be clear surveys so they don't get a basket out of that but they barred more time off the clock and they keep it as break to the glass left it short and this one to finally go Tucker's way.
Great job by Mayes keeping that ball alive on the offensive board, running some more clock.
It is six and I'll take it by the tigers of Tucker Baze leading at 5751.
Still time for Tucker to come get a two point field goal, make it a five point game.
Then you got a two possession game.
So Bill said to see I'd like to see Woodward handling the ball out front and have Duncan and Tatum as your options to score.
We'll see what Coach Cartwright comes up with.
Probably going to call a specific play right here.
Try to get a quick shot.
Sure.
That first five, 10 seconds after they get the ball in bounds, that would be the strategy.
Georgia's longest running weekly high school sports of academics, probably prep Sports plus airs Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
ET, Saturdays at 11 a.m. at 630.
Each week, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletics programs and much more.
That's one.
Plus, returning next week exclusively on GPB.
Yeah, you get to see more, Jim Pinocchio as if you need it after this long weekend.
But hey, if you got to see him, it's a piece for a good cause.
So it's full court pressure by Bass, that desire to burn a little more time off the clock.
Tatum With the ball in his hands.
Tatum All the way through step by Houston all the drives that they commit the foul in the process so everybody doing exactly what you said Herb Tucker was going for quick basket here as you take a look at the replay but Baze countering very well coaching there by coach back to pick them up full court the so that really you have to work it up the floor and pointing out the obvious some huge free throws here for Tucker Tatum on the night 12 points for like but you put it on of Herb this is on the first try to shake it off outstanding young basketball player got another year coming for the Tucker Carter converts on the second five point Mayes lead lay across the toddler hands into the back.
that's based on a dunk he's got to look to foul now Charles time running out Great cross double volley left tackle if they allowed for the easy they were.
Boy boy you've heard the time you don't get that foul they get the basket that's up play by Mayes that do you any good to trade baskets now though Duncan levels gets it off the victim for three at the rim rebound to it by Chase it made better but they got themselves out slot is great he's going to be fouled he'll go to the line Well great team effort by Mayes.
A lot of people had a hand in this one right out front running the show.
Let's take a look at this play again.
We'll see the foul Tatum try to stop him from behind.
No doubt about that one great play by Simmons on the inside defensively also offensively Rashard Chase just a total team effort by a bunch of seniors who came out here and took it right from the start child here another senior Brandon Houston coming off that bench with ease with 5 to 4 That's a lot of points in our last check out ahead just can't measure that help he gave them off the bench Tatum out front now whistles the play they get it to the double dribble Michael Bay providing the defense Tatum saying that back all right they hit that basketball officials don't agree.
43 seconds remaining Baze all the way to back to back flurry championships whistles at the backcourt just like coach Mack said defense is going to win it for him and that's that's what they done.
They take they took Tatum really out of his offensive game and everything that Damien Duncan got.
He really had to work for it.
Quite a few turnovers for him out front because of the defense.
So got that he had the plays.
They just came out and took it matters Napier great puts the first three today but unique little ritual that it works he got a both dunk come quickly back the other way with a running double shot it hard Chase clears with Baze outlet pass gets it he beat the frame Henson with the lay of the day's here's another steal this is by Daniel at bay I know that they pulled over play by Duncan but not a whole lot he could do there he had the turnover with 21 seconds remaining Duncan commits the fire back, RSA will run it along.
Congratulations.
Also no doubt to the Tucker Tigers for a great season.
Got to the state championship game and that's as far as you can go, unless you're going to win it.
Last time they were here and I tried it on the plays, they were here last year.
They want it back.
This year and appear to be on their way to winning this mark.
RFA Draw some air on the South.
Methanol and a high bar.
Take it back So a back three real key for the Raiders Today's is that recognition from the sideline the drop back into that defense to slow the pace they started out with an aggressive bad the bad defense that was causing problems initially then the coach back pulled them back to a sort of a zone type halfcourt set that worked as well.
Right.
And Tucker, having offensive difficulties is that Tatum was taken out of his rhythm and they never really had an answer for Rashod Chase Simmons inside.
They kept it going just well enough in there and pretty much limited, Tucker to one shot on offense, doing a good job on the boards.
Jason Simmons And this wasn't Tucker's day.
There were a couple of battles of this war that we were keeping an eye on Gray's versus Duncan.
But Tatum versus Chase, although they did the match up like that throughout the entire game, but the duos in terms of production and Ledger there favors the Raiders.
They did start the second pick some players the quarter was he for three have all eight of their back with the stuff tied taken by Tucker after the dunk by Tatum inside 9 seconds of AIDS Little they could do yeah I don't know what 11 point play coach Harsh he's got called over there but we'll see when he comes back out of the huddle.
Eight seniors on that Raider team and they played like it today couple of situations The other team surely would have been rattled but the seniors able to play through that run by Tucker in that third quarter had to keep this Gaels in their favor.
Yeah, you just can't underestimate that experience and championship ballgame.
Charles You're right.
And when you've been there before and won it, you really get good seniors.
Obviously Taylor tried to slam alley oop to himself and Basket was their backside by Doug Goodwin.
It's a question as to whether or not to give up the basket or not.
Todd I'll take it.
Well.
Tatum one for the highlight reel.
All it does is close it to seven with one second to go.
So Baze will go back to back as state champions of the fourth Division.
And that's a tough thing to do, Charles, with the quality of high school basketball.
And George, I'm going to tell you, but Coach Mac said they played some really tough holiday tournaments.
They went out of state, played some of the great teams from around the country, and he said it really paid off for his team.
Well, I see a few teams doing that at a state where they'll go outside of the state to play and it seems to help certainly soccer that comes to mind when that happens.
Wheeler What's coming up later tonight, they do that as well, but it just gets you more prepared for what you see inside the state when you play.
So they set it back at 4 seconds.
It looks like at least setting the clock here, trying to do that.
It put it at 2.4 and you play it to the end with four shovels right through it, give it the ducks it all, the elbow play.
And that brings us to the old aimed towards the championship.
6356 over Tucker they go back to back to stay checks through Andre Brey the senior point guard for the Raiders very instrumental of those wins this afternoon players celebrating at Pitt thoughts you take a look at the back of Brandy Houston number 51 cannot overstate the importance of what he brought to the team off the bench this afternoon as well.
Quite a legacy for this senior class.
They'll be remembered for a long time, winning back to back championships.
Phil Proctor standing by with a jubilant, jubilant floored back feel.
All right, Coach?
Sensational win.
How does it feel?
Feel great.
Second time around, You know, after losing the caliber of play of last year, the Booker, Emerson and Williams, hey is unreal.
The way these kids stepped up and supported our returning three seniors.
No been fantasy two you got to play and Rashard changed and you got those seniors you lose them this year.
Tell me what they meant to your program.
Everything they've accomplished more in their four years than any other group without losing Mays high school history.
And that's saying a lot because we've had a lot of great players There is unbelievable what they've accomplished since they've been at least four years.
And De'Andre Brey, what can you say about him?
Hey I'm out of words played 32 minutes tonight.
He fell down a couple of times to all the guards when give them anything he does they coach them All right put on my back and we go and win it.
That's the kind of confidence he has.
All right, Coach.
Well, congratulations.
You go celebrate with the team.
All right?
Talk back to you.
Thank you.
Feel are out of words as well.
Baze wins it 6356.
