Major funding for this program is made possible in part by Georgia's electric membership corporations.
IBEW Local 613 Atlanta, Walkerville State Farm Dodge.
And by viewers like you.
Live from the Arena, Gwinnett Center, it's the Georgia Save for All Girls basketball championship, featuring West Side at 27 and five, taking on the Adama Eagles.
And this crowd is fired up for this championship game here on GPB.
Good afternoon, everybody, and welcome.
I'm Jim Tanaka championship weekend.
What what a big weekend in store for you if you love basketball all the Seminoles coming in out of region three for this one the Eagles out of region six.
One thing in common on both these teams they're both shooting for their first state championship.
Go courtside to the guys.
We'll call this one Dave Gardner and Paul.
All right.
Thanks, Jim.
I'm here with the dean of Atlanta sports, Bobak.
And boy, tell you what, I'm fired up about this match up.
You've got an Eagle team that's very big.
They have a lot of depth against a West Side making team that's been labeled the Comeback Kids.
They've had a lot of close games on these playoffs.
Comeback kids.
How about heartbreak kids?
They've broken a lot of hearts around this state.
You're in basketball fans for one doozy of a matchup.
You've got a half court team and then you've got in West Side that run the floor team that's very, very athletic.
Lady Seminoles have a lot of weapons on their side of the floor.
And one girl to watch today indeed, will be Shannon Corbett and look at her numbers.
Right.
They're very impressive.
Well, Shannon Corbett is a56 seniors who averages 12 points a game, 36% from three point land.
And she's a heck of a leader.
Shannon Corbett, certainly one to watch today in addition to several of the Lady Seminoles.
As we take a look at the starting five there, you've got Hatchett Ghandour actually for a West Side make in Corbett, Caldwell Holloway, Trice and Hilbert there again the starting five very impressive for the for the lady Seminoles from west side Macon for say a very athletic team as you see the coach there Deb Faber has done a great job with this program as you see her record, 128 and 83.
That's a pretty good winning percentage.
Yeah, they were down 13 against Stone Mountain last year defending champion and came back to win that game.
That's what kind of heart they have.
Unbelievable.
Let's talk a little bit about these Edmonton Lady eagles from Woodstock, Georgia, just up the road in Cherokee County and a very big lineup.
Several girls, well over six foot.
There's one player right there, little white, well taken.
Hatchet is a59 junior.
She averages 10.3 points per game, 36% from three point land and 81% from the free throw line.
They finished 26 and six.
Oh, unbelievable.
What a year for Etowah again, going for their first state championship as you see their starting five Brantley, Alisha Manning, Frechette, Gonder and Hatchett, very talented.
And again, look at the size and they're six foot one, five foot nine for a couple of 511 players as well.
They're going to be fun to watch.
Coach Bob Westbrook has done a great job with this program.
He's been at the school for five years, 109 and 37 at the school.
But look, well, closing in on 400 victories for his career and he uses everybody on his squad.
That's how much depth he has.
And he can go six, four, 6262.
So West Side's got their work cut out for them.
They better run the floor.
This crowd is absolutely fired up.
They have filled the arena here at Gwinnett Center and you see the Etowah contingent traveling from Woodstock, Georgia.
And of course, the lady Seminole crowd in the house from Macon as well.
And this is going to be a great matchup right here.
Again, the opponent, a girls matchup set to tip off right here at the Arena.
And boy, I tell you what, the atmosphere is, Rocket, what a great venue for high school basketball.
It is absolutely perfect.
That holds about 11,400 and is easily accessible.
And kids have a great time playing in this big time arena.
Let's go down the starting lineup to Dr. David Witherow from Chatsworth, Georgia, the Eagles and the West Side Lady Seminoles.
Here are your starting lineup.
First for the West Side, Lady Seminoles at Guard five six.
Senior number 20 Shankar back at Guard DA 511, Sophomore Number 23.
Joe Lisa told that forward a59 senior number 32 let Holloway add forward a58 senior number 35 now to try and that sitter six one senior number 44 seater Kilburn the west side Lady Seminoles are coached by Deb Baber right now the starting line up for the Lady Eagles and guard up by nine junior number ten Tegan and Hatcher right guard up by seven Senior number 12 Lisa Gonder at forward a six foot freshman number 23.
Only so many at forward a 511 senior number 32 Young hybrid play and Exeter six foot senior number 33.
Nicole thought three.
The Lady Eagles are coached by Bob Westbrook.
So there you have it the West side make and Lady Seminole set to take on the Adelaide Eagles for the Quarter girls championship here in oh five.
We'll take a timeout and be right back to the arena at Gwinnett Center championship weekend rolling on right here on GPB set and ready to roll the quarter a girls championship between the West side like the Seminoles and Atlanta Lady Eagles.
Let's quickly throw it down to the other member of our team today, Lisa Weise.
Thanks, Dave.
It's been a dream season for West Side.
The school's been in existence for just four years and head coach Ted Baber has been there since day one.
Now, the first lady said males have ever been with the Sweet 16, but this year Coach Favre knew she had a great team.
And day one she told her team anything less than the Final Four would be a huge disappointment.
Making it to the state championship game was like gravy on the biscuit.
Now she told me that they have had to come from behind twice to win these games and she feels confident that her team can put together four solid quarters.
They have no problem winning this game.
All right, Lisa, look forward to talking to you here today.
And gravy on the biscuit, I guess, both for the West side.
Lady Seminoles who come in here and win that first state championship.
The officials are Roy Lee Honeycutt, Don Vokey and Curtis Barry.
And we are underway from the arena at Gwinnett Center.
Dave Gardner.
Bobak, with you.
The NORAD Eagles control the opening tip again and all out of Region six.
Quite a look at how they play.
So technically, that's what makes other teams crazy.
And it was a halfcourt team and West Side is making them crazy with their with their effort and hustle.
Lisa Gonda Report number 12 gives way to take a hatchet here.
We saw the pre-game up top there, certainly a weapon along with 41 to Brantley, number 33.
There's a shot by Hatchett off the mark there on the drive and taken down low there by Cena Gilbert Gilbert six foot one so they've got a little bit of size to go up against it along with a little bit they'll try to get those fast break points.
Holloway shot off the side of the iron no good Brock down by Manning and a pass Oh what a pass inside good ball movement up and in right there that's Nicole Frechette who finishes on the other end and what a great look to give it up right there instead of trying to force a shot under the basket.
And along with the first lead of the day, Whiteside trying to counter on the other end post up inside and knocked away a block by Frechette back on the other end That's Brantley one on one off the glass one running hook shot to finish that That's and we talked about West side wanting to run well so far and it was run and what with the first four points of the game right here Coach Westbrook has to be happy with the way his team start tonight.
There was a turnover right there and on the other end Brantley again one on one good hustle right there though by Holloway Keep it alive and back to West Side That was a blown opportunity right there should have had that as we talked about this West Side team there's a lot of exciting games in these state playoffs trailed by as many as 13 against Stone Mountain in the cities the other night came back to win that game 5147.
They're averaging around 56 and a half points offensively on the year shot off the mark by Tulsa Cardwell and back to the way the Eagles at least a 510 sophomore averaging six points a game as you see Hatchett well over ten a game on the year and just a junior taking it and then a great championship run that Eagles as you mentioned with some size here you'll notice the shift inside posting excellent drive Manning into the lane there I won't get the bucket but will draw the foul and he will go to the line.
Alicia manning again a five point freshman averaging six points a game and I think it's lot lapel that as many upperclassmen as you have and I don't want a lineup that freshmen and sophomores are able to get in there to throw the ball.
If you have athletic ability Dave Coach wants to get you in there and get you playing time.
This is a very power play.
That's the first free throw.
She'll have another another off five.
Nothing here to open the game as you see Manning's numbers, six points five rebounds and total over an assist on the year as a freshman Second one rattles in and out back on the other end Holloway drives in partially blocked by their own shot won't get the roll Gilbert trying to keep it alive and she'll draw the foul underneath was some pretty good action under their build a61 senior and as you see the Lady Eagles Nicole Frechette, who's also right around 661.
I think in that last sequence, Leticia Holloway was a little bit frustrated and just wanted to take it and pick it right down the alley and get a score.
Gilbert Missing on the first and I just saw her numbers there, a senior playing her final prep game, averaging four points on the season and the second one rattles in and out of there and West Side still unable to get on the board, but they keep it alive.
Jan Corbitt inside of turnaround wouldn't go for Nakia Trice.
The follow by Trice won't go.
Still another opportunity right there and traveling to be called on strike back that all you see how much Hart west side as we talked about how big it is and what a strong team they are but they are getting the rebounds and beating them to the boards.
They're out hustling them and a lot of five nothing here inside the first few minutes from the arena and action at center, they've got to go back to you.
Lisa east courtside.
Little bit more pressure right here as west side comes out a little bit, attach it, try to work it in there.
Nearly had it knocked away hangs on to it feeds Manning underneath who puts it up and won't go Gonder is there kicks it back out to Brantley off the mark another match pass inside Alisha Manning Manning a 510 freshman's got three points What a great feed by Lisa Gonda To find her underneath four and a half to play and you're in the Lady Eagles are after a70 run to open this game back on the other end.
Holloway had it taken away Gilbert with follow and a whistle on the floor have a little pushing and taking exception to what's been a very physical game so far Fowler to be called on to call for shit for picking up her second foul as you see those arms extended but still got the whistle.
Anyway there as Gilbert goes to the line trying to get the Lady Seminoles on the board here get West side out of region three quarter and a second one is there for Hilbert and Alford West side on the board here for 27 they're going hatchet five nine junior Linsey mason right there in the pivot She's six four Howard knocked away stripped away from Hatchett throws that's an arrow will stay with the Lady Eagles as a skilled step Baber referee West side program.
Since the school opened eight years ago.
Brantley Court Gonder for three off the mark no good and rebound Howard ahead Oh West side got the numbers and the offense work right there by Shand for the first opportunity they've had to run the floor and that's what West Side's game is all about.
That's what they want to do in a while.
Unable to get back defensively there and West Side capitalizes, they got a seven point lead down to four at 345 here in this opening quarter and off your fingertips of Lisa Gonda right there and back to West Side.
After a while, West sides pressure can really take its toll.
The double and they're unrelenting.
Look at this drive going to get a whistle right here I believe they're going to get Lisa manning for the Albany right there.
It looks like a clean block by Mason and believe it should have been a joy to play Symantec's first team's third here for four.
But at the Lions, you see her numbers 12 points, four rebounds, six assists and five steals.
What a career she's had.
This is a senior season and you got to like the way West Side has been able to work their way back in this game after falling behind early another within a bucket right here after that made free throw for two of two.
That's the life story But coming from behind this is nothing go right.
They had six points well into the second quarter of the game against Stone Mountain rallied in the second half.
Nice job there by the Lady Eagles to keep it alive as Bonner took a tumble over there and makes it back on to the quarter.
Teammates were nice enough to get back on the floor.
Looks like they're gonna have a push on the field.
Tries a very nice second team foul on west side catch it will inbound for anyone and need their own goal here That's Mason and taken away and out of bounds and to west side Last touch by the way the Eagles referee's calling a very loose game There's a lot of contact out here and they haven't settled in yet either.
Jan Corbett, averaging four out of the dozen points off puts a play on the year has been huge and it's easy how they're going to draw the foul right there from Tiana Brantley so we can say one thing both sides really taking it inside there.
They're not being intimidated at all by at all size.
No.
And they've got, as you mentioned, some signs that they also, you know, not as much obviously not as much hype, but they have signs they can carve out of space.
What I miss is on the first, we'll have another again, Latisha Holloway transferring from Coffey County High School to this West Side making program.
And impressive numbers hits right there, one of two from the line.
So a one point game now at seven oh.
West side scored the last six under 3 minutes to play here in the opening quarter Good fish right there baseline wouldn't go and taken out of there by Holloway through feeds Corbett wide open underneath on the other end run out.
Corbett off to a fast start and how about these Lady Seminoles?
They didn't even need a quarter to put together a comeback right here that was going to get something here with this trip because they've been playing for a few minutes now before saw that last bucket in transition highlight the Seminoles Corbett finishing right here the last ball touched by a west side out of bounds in a while will keep the possession here with 226 on the clock here in the opening period from the arena at Gwinnett Center and a near steal and now a steal on the inbound to Lisa Caldwell with it puts up a shot it won't go and Mason is there for the board back on the other end take had two one on two puts up a tough shot and an offensive foul back the other way catch it with the numbers against her the smart thing might have been just a pull up right there she took it in the traffic open for the foul for some help.
It was one on two.
Here it is right here.
No other way they can call that.
And what a great job by West Side to hold the ground right there to see an eight oh run in the last two and a half minutes by the Lady Seminoles.
What a take away right there by it all has been quiet here in the last few minutes but there's a pass inside up and Lindsay Mason on the receiving end of a nice pass from Brantley Edwards scored really sees the floor well he's seen some excellent assistance Auburn dribbling on the other end being guarded by Kristi Spivey in the lineup for the Lady Eagles Lisa Caldwell looking inside and they feed it in there to tries but off the mark whistle on the floor and it looks like the foul going to call on west side might be a seen a Hilburn she really throws bangs in there throws the weight around who definitely has the size underneath hill are going to be banging inside tonight if Mason at six foot four.
We also got Sarah Shooter Meyer who who's into the lineup now Fred along as you see the field goal story two of eight for west side for late for the lady who goes to 50% here in the early going but they need it by just one and Watson like it's been able to make up some ground from the free throw line in this opening quarter three point shot from the corner too strong but the foul is there and a foul going to be called underneath on it.
A what's going to be on target?
HATCHETT are second west side that a great three point shooting team as we've mentioned and very very athletic and they get the points off the break so it's five Westbrook as you saw there quite a coaching career and we'll see more of it at the line back at the line hitting on the first quarter.
Lisa Gonder back in the lineup for A.R.
along with number three, Emily McNeill, who checks in for the first time tonight.
One four, but with seven points here in the early going, trying to make it two of two from the line here and give the lady solos a one point lead and rattles at home right there is a floater with eight and it's a one point West Side making lead with Emily McNeill in the game.
She's just five three coach might be trying to match up the a little bit with West side speed 55 off the mark short on that three point shot as you see Coach Bob Westbrook on the bench there trying to calm his lady.
He goes back down after they took a commanding lead to open the game with the lady similarly fired back here and taken control somewhat lead it by point they have the basketball The right jumper is there for Lisa Cardwell and that's a place where the size her coach with the 53. good that he put in.
That was a good looking stroke so far.
A 5/10 sophomore averaging six spotty back up top four while puts up the shot hits just by the after missing that three point shot comes right back, puts up a shot, hits the confidence builder right here.
Back on the other hand, it's Tisha Holloway here.
She's feeling it all the way.
Just inside the arc right there has got three points and that were knocked away defensively.
Ball stood a wide good save, and that is going to do it for the first quarter.
Play Exciting crowd here, making a lot of noise and what a game.
We'll take a timeout Be right back.
1411.
It's a three point West side making lead and west side make in 14 he had Lady Eagles 11 here three point lead as we get step through start the second quarter of play from the arena Gwinnett Center they've gone are back with you Lisa West courtside with us.
And I tell you what, this crowd is going back and forth.
You got the got the West side, Macon fans doing the tomahawk chop, you got the Atlanta side doing the wave.
And it's something else in here.
It's electric.
But I'll tell you what was electric was Bob Westbrook's huddle over there trying to figure out how to slow down side and the Lady Seminoles with that three point lead have the basketball to open up the quarter as we continue to rock and roll here.
Leticia Holloway was big in that first quarter kicks off right there to Nakia, Trice off the mark and then we're back and running.
The other way to let it go ran out to a70 lead start this game.
It was such a towering back It's been back and forth on the fourth Here's Mason off the glass and then the wall pulls back within one 1413.
She's going to be really something that freshman at 64a lot of size are out there for a youngster.
And that's the thing about this whole team that got a lot of depth.
They can go to a lot of different people off the bench that were knocked away last year.
But I believe they're going to get Mason for the foul.
Had a wall crowd not liking that one Mason Mason averaging right a ten points a game as a freshman if you see to Lisa Caldwell 510 sophomore at the line out here two points so far today rattles the first at home.
Both these games are really well coach I mean until the way the kids shoot they all have good strokes they all looking for the assist winners here as well.
Caldwell two of two on that trip and west side back out by three 1613 Our Lady Eagles that's Diana Brantley off the dribble No no good man and kept it alive though puts up a shot still won't go and Lady Seminoles out of there with it passing it ahead West side doing a great job of getting up and down the floor.
What about that pass right here to Leticia Holloway and Leticia Holloway left as soon as the ball went up.
These kids expect their big people to rebound and they're just running the floor.
They're just running out, breaking out.
And they the Eagles may have a size, but West Side showing the speed here in the early going and catch it loses the handle on that one.
But they're going to say it was knocked away by Holloway so possession will stay with analyze and see coach Bob Westbrook trying to rally his team here and he said you know coach said don't worry about fouls but aggressive we've got enough depth that he feels comfortable enough that he doesn't mind these girls fouling a little bit, seeing the other team with the free throw line.
He plays everybody on his bench knocked away by a had to put a whistle.
I think that's what it has to do.
Has to be a little more aggressive.
Taking it to the basket.
Hope to get fouled You all could step over 13 Sweet 16 last year and catch it at the line hits in a short history but they've already established a good good as you see at its numbers on the season over ten points a game and hits their free throws right there.
It's back to a three point game.
A little bit of pressure by a while, but the Lady Seminoles to get out of there she the Hilton off the glass wouldn't go trying to keep it alive Ball still rolling around in there and finally take it away by Brantley.
See what Brantley does right here with a pull up.
He wants it baseline shot, but it won't go big.
Here they go again back on either ends.
Alison Caldwell Is it up to strong chance forward on the follow and go follow it clear now the opportunity off the glass.
Jackson Jackson on the board to Lisa Caldwell with six points here in this first half and it's a five point game Bradley dumps it inside to Molson with a turnaround right there will draw the foul Mason still going into her height, it was tough for her to gather herself when that hook shot she attempted because she was getting fouled down below five team fouls on West Side Mason at the line and hits Mason, a 76% free throw shooter on the year, almost ten points a game, six rebounds and knocks down a pair right there.
So it's pretty much stayed within a 3 to 5 point game and a turnover right there.
A little miscommunication on the part of the lady Seminole.
So right back to the Lady Eagles still with it a possession here and a chance to tie it up or at least pull within one turnovers west side with four in a while with five here in the early going tough shot by Brantley follows her own shot won't get the roll there and brought down by Caldwell play Seminoles off and running again Thought about that shot from the corner dumps it inside though to try shot go favorite keeps it alive and she will go to the left side really battling down low in this first half when helper gets possession you're not going to move her out of there.
I mean, she's got it and she's got pretty good skills down there to see that, to see that last sequence there.
Gilbert working underneath there misses on the first free throw.
She'll have another one point today, five rebounds already and Gilbert unable to hit on the second.
So Whiteside comes up empty on that trip and it's still a three point game Mason earlier off the glass good looking shot right there Yeah same situation as before except she didn't hook in She almost got herself hopefully turned around for the little jump shot Mason with eight points and traveling to be called on Caldwell and right back that all pass number 20 Kristi Spivey get set to check back in for the lady Eagles said Baber there's been a great sequence read her because West side was running away with this.
They looked like they were going to turn on the Jets and just leave that to us and outs the Lady Eagles who were back within one and a chance to take the lead right here, under 5 minutes to go in the first half.
They got the ball back with you and Lisa was courtside with you.
Got a shot right there by Hatchett Hatchett went baseline.
I didn't think she had a chance to get that shot up there but that was great stuff.
Also a good play by coach Elizabeth Caldwell draws the double team there.
Corbet fires it inside.
And what a pass to Hilbert and the foul has seen her Hilbert a61 senior chance for a three point play right here Dave you've got to front her because there's no way if she gets the ball, but you're going to there's nothing you can do if you're in back.
And this time nobody was guarding and they forgot about it.
But you, you've got to deny her the ball down there.
Gilbert at the line misses so Watson comes away with to Hibbert still battling though it's taken away by Horvat three on one on the other end What a move by Sam quarter and Corbin had two options She decided to take it herself.
Well we talked about putting it up top in today's telecast that she's already got ten here, so well worth the attention her first bucket of the second quarter and West Side back out by 33. shot for Hatchett off the iron no good And back on the other end West side again with the numbers two on one Holloway loses her footing tries to high off the glass.
There still a lot of faux pas in rolling around in there.
Now back the other way, though.
Slow it down Three defenders back yeah numbers against them right there So Hatchett a thought to Donda down a feed it inside out there and nobody touched it So back to west side it's going to lose out of control that time would have been better off putting it up on the backboard number 33, Nicole Frechette back in the lineup for anyone.
Number 24, Jaren Davis, a six foot freshman in the lineup for West Side ball size on the floor here today.
But West side showing that they can get up and down the floor as well.
Corbet with ten points kicks it out.
Holloway puts up the shot.
What a job right there by Leticia Holloway.
Well, she just flew down the baseline seven points here in the early going for the senior 2621 37 have opened it back up to a five point game here with under 3 minutes to go in the half shot back on the other end catch it had it knocked away there in the Lady Eagles a little bit out of control right now as you mentioned, a couple here forcing it a little bit, trying to, you know, that frantic pace has just ruined their tempo.
Take the low right there.
So, Lisa Caldwell, they've got a foul going to be called, it looks like, on Kristi Spivey there.
Well, that was pretty chintzy in the way they're letting them bang and everybody slapping everybody else as they bring the ball up.
You're getting no calls.
Here's the last score by the Lady Seminoles right here.
Watch her come baseline and watch her get some verticality that Caldwell at the line here trying to widen the gap for the lady Seminoles and this is off the front of the line right there Yeah shorter on that ball a little bit try to see her numbers six points and seven rebounds Just a sophomore make it seven points for Caldwell and Lilly does not.
Six five on the other end try to feed it inside knocked away they were looking to get it inside to Brantley but you get it just wait take your time What a job right there in Florida with 12 points and she's warming up and that's not a good thing for at all.
She's taking over.
She takes it to the basket whenever she wants it.
West Side Macon, Lady Seminoles up by eight here.
Their largest lead of the game, 2921 with just over 2 minutes left in the half they've another force into traffic they're just not being patient in their half Good Here she comes.
Here comes Shannon Corbett.
Got all kinds of deliveries when she gets to the basket.
Now, Corbett's definitely as advertised, an unbelievable player, 36% as well from three point range.
So she can knock them down from all over the floor.
We've seen her do it inside tonight, and she's not the biggest girl on the floor by any means.
You got to mix it up a little short on that three point shot.
And we were going to have a foul called on Toronto Davis.
But a lot of folks in the house here today at all averaging right at 60 on offense this season only giving up about 41.
So those are pretty good numbers.
Just make it about a ten point differential score a right around 56, give it up about 45 or so.
As I mentioned, they've had a lot of close games, but a lot of character for Coach Baylor and later Seminoles this year to be able to win those close games and be able to come back in the playoffs, I think that Lisa manning in there, Lisa Gonder with the basketball bottom out three, Manning puts up a shot.
It wouldn't go take Kidd out of there by Davis, another run out on the other end.
Holloway able to catch up to that one right there.
Boy, she's fast and athletic.
Last trip down there, too, would try to pick and roll, trying to do something different with this club, unable to force it inside.
Coach Westbrook looking on here, Assistant Coach Rob Graynor was the varsity voice coach and had a walk for many seasons helping out on the girls side.
Now that coach is very animated and there's a two shot foul up coming to court.
Frechette has been somewhat quiet here in this first half, a big A six footer and a senior on Frechette.
The leading rebounder on the team shoots 75% from the line and hits on the first right there, third semifinal versus Jones County here in numbers, just two points, but 13 rebounds.
And that's really what she brings to the lineup right here for us.
Checking back in for the Lady Seminoles, two of two on that trip right there, 29, 23 with a minute left in the first half.
They gonna go back with you, Lisa?
We courtside along with the rest of the GPB television group for the championship weekend cranking up here.
What a girls action from the arena at Gwinnett Center and this one's been everything we thought it would be especially style was Yeah in a while with a lot of depth substituting a lot of girls and you got to wonder if that will certainly play into it late in the game with that depth.
But West Side make it also showing that they've got some athletes who could come off the bench as well.
The heart foul inside right here I believe they're going to get tries so it looks like they may get Corbett comes right here see she forces she has to that's the third time in the last four sequences that we've seen that would force something 5000 beast wander at the line hits on the first and Lindsey makes the number 31 checks back in is to see goners numbers this year 5.8 points once on the one hand gone to a senior trying to go out a state champion here hits on the second binder with two points on the day and it's back to a four point game with 35 seconds left.
Again, no shot clock at high school basketball.
The Lady Seminoles going to pull the trigger right there, all the way off the mark of the follow go by Davis, who is right there underneath, trying to keep it alive.
They're going to have a push looks like on it all.
The shooter, Meyer number 25, you see right there, who got picked early in that play.
So I'm going to pick up her second and see for the back of the line here up, what, a first half for 12 points and rattles in and out right there.
That was halfway down I know, 12 points here, two rebounds for the senior, second one off the back of the iron no good brought down by Hatchett and that's the Lady Eagles with 15 seconds left here trying to get back on the court on drawing two Davis is out of control again what if she did that in a veiled around was with fouls 19 fouls She's a tough kid to take that punch down the rattles at home.
They're three of three from the line here and the last couple of minutes, still 13.1 on the clock.
Did you see her totals today?
Three Points three rebounds early on here for the senior secondary kicks off the throw the iron no good after 10 seconds a piece of Holloway with the basketball kicks it back out from outside That's trice no good The power is there though by the way.
So far he's got nine points and that'll do it for the half.
And what a half of basketball here from the arena at Gwinnett Center with the halftime the West side Macon Lady Seminoles 31 in the annual Eagles 26 action packed here as we take a look at that last bucket right before the buzzer.
Great look to look back, Susan and the rebound.
It's go ahead, throw it down to the floor.
Lisa.
We standing by.
Lisa All right.
Thanks, Dave.
Coach, that baby, I know you have a lead.
How does that feel?
They actually have a lead coming into the half now considering weakness, nine free throws.
It feels pretty good.
We ought to have about a 14 point lead instead of a three point lead or a four point lead.
We just got to hit our free throws.
I think we're doing a good job otherwise.
All right, thanks.
We're going to tell your girls in half.
Thank you.
First of all, got to keep the intensity up on defense and these guys not reaching.
They're taking shots.
They're not really taking good shots.
They're just taking shots knowing we're going to put them at the line and they're going to hit their free throws.
That's the difference in a ballgame right there, right now.
Free throws.
All right, Coach, thank you so much.
Good luck in the second half.
Dave, back to you.
All right.
Well, I don't know if it's quite gravy on the biscuit, but nonetheless, it is a five point halftime lead for the West Side.
Make a Lady Seminoles.
We'll be back with halftime coming up.
And welcome back to the arena at Gwinnett Center.
It's halftime West side leading it over Etowah 31 to 26 of course on the court right now is the boy Smith for a championship the beginning of the way shortly the Tucker Tigers and the Mayes Raiders.
Now we go courtside to Lisa Wiese.
Lisa.
All right.
Thanks, Jim.
Joining me are two very happy people, the principal from West Side, Pat Casey.
How exciting is this for you to actually have a lead at the half?
Well, this is really exciting because we're not usually ahead at the half.
We're usually behind.
So honestly, I'm kind of a little concerned here because I like to come from behind.
That's locked in.
I was talking to coach Deb Barber and she said that at West Side, it's just been so exciting there.
In the excitement.
She said, it's a little overwhelming.
Tell me a little bit about the school and the community.
Well, it has been.
And if you could have seen the send off that we had today with the band and the place and the flashing lights and the seniors and everybody at the school, you know, lined up all down the driveway, sending them off and I mean, it was fantastic.
The spirit.
It's just amazing.
And I know West Side has only been around for eight years.
So this is pretty exciting, the furthest you guys have been at the Sweet 16.
That's correct.
And actually, this is only the seventh year we've had a varsity team, so we're real thrilled about this.
So if we win, it will be our first state championship.
So we are really pulling for this.
Yes.
Good luck.
And also joining me is George Alexander, the principal at our high school.
I understand that this is your last year is first of all, tell me a little bit about how exciting this is for you in the school.
Well, it's exciting for all of us at school.
We haven't been in the state tournament in about 12.
Gosh, I guess the last time was about 1980 something.
Early eighties, 1989.
Okay.
Well, I'm glad you know better than I do.
So we're really excited about this.
The schools roll up, if you look over there at the crowd, I mean, it's an enormous student turnout and I'm really excited about that, too.
Yeah.
And Coach Bob Westbrook was telling me a little something, too.
He says, All day and all day yesterday you've been doing a little singing around school.
That's a that's a real strange rumor going around.
I can't see.
But we did play a song by and I can't even remember.
Tug McGraw So what's what's I can't remember his name now, but how bad do you want it?
And we played that several times.
We had a little pep rally today with it.
I did that much singing and and they all decided I don't need to sing anymore.
So how was the set up send off for Adeline?
It was a great send off.
Like I said, we had that pep rally this morning and all the kids were real excited about it.
And it's just great being in state tournament and I hope we got a little more left in us here in the second half.
All right.
Well, thank you so much for joining me down here.
Thank you as well.
And Jim Janaki.
Let's send it back over to you.
I thank you, Lisa.
So you have a principal that sings.
That's just incredible.
I never know what's going to find on the halftime show here on GPB.
West Side and Etowah, the Seminoles leading the Eagles 31 to 26.
We're going to throw it courtside now with Dave Gardner and Bobak.
All right.
Thanks, Jim.
And welcome back, everybody.
Of course, an exciting first half, Bo and that's all both teams really up and down the floor, particularly the Lady Seminoles from West Side, Macon.
They really had their game on doing a little bit of everything.
Well, they really didn't.
They had those breakouts that Coach Holloway or Coach Westbrook was so afraid was going to happen.
And they got that big lead and then Edwards able to come back in their half court offense.
Unbelievable.
And Noah, of course, has a lot of size as well as we take a look at some of the first half highlights.
And Bo, as I mention, we'll see right here what we've been talking about teams really up and down the floor.
But you're going to see Nicole Frechette here and that is her with a little with a nice dish that we talked about.
They really did a great job.
With the assist is Jan Korver, who is all world for West Side not only in this game but also in the semifinal game.
Here she comes again, a great feed from teacher Holloway back on the other end.
Speaking of Teacher Holloway, here she is.
She's got great athletic ability, great body control, and that was taken.
HATCHETT For anyone, here's teacher Holloway.
Again, Look at a good baseline, looking to get elevation.
And now Yolanda Finney is going to come down the lane.
And just in the half for West Side, big half.
It was there as we see the halftime statistics, both field goal percentage, 34% for Edwards, 39% for West Side.
With all of those layups free throws it, as Coach Babers said, as she left you in the locker room.
That's the difference in this game and why West Side doesn't have a bigger lead.
You got to wonder, of course, Etowah coming out in the second half, they've got to do a better job of really getting back in transition.
On defense there, The turnover picture basically seven all here and let's go and throw it to Lisa Wiese who's standing by now with Coach Westbrook.
Coach Westbrook, what did you tell your girls in half?
I know it's still a very close game.
Well, we got to get back on defense.
They're beating us down the floor.
And that was my biggest concern going in is beating us back on defense and we've got to get back there and then stop that.
Also, they're killing us on the offensive glass.
They've had probably ten points on offensive rebounds.
Those are the two biggest things I told them, and hopefully we can straighten those out in the second half.
All right, Coach, Good luck in the second half, Dave.
Let's send it back to you.
All right.
The Ottawa Lady Eagles with their work cut out for them, but they trail by just five.
It's the West side make and Lady Seminoles leading at halftime here of the quarter girls match up.
We'll be right back with the second half in a moment.
Just 16 minutes left to decide this year's Quarter girls championship.
Again, the West side vacant Lady Seminoles with a five point advantage here at the break.
As we get set to start the third quarter, they've got to go back with you, Lisa Lewis, courtside today along with the rest of the GPB television crew as championship weekend rolls on right here and a good first half.
It's saw a lot of action as we saw on the first half highlights both really back and forth, both teams putting up a little bit of offense.
But really this is where it's got to happen right here at a loss Coach Westbrook alluded to before the half, they've got to get back on defense first.
Three or 4 minutes right here is so important and I think the West side present, there's a mason Hatchett and Manning who lead the scoring eight, four three right there as you see them win.
The leaders in the contest so far will need more offense and traveling going to be called right there.
It looks like on the way to the Eagles, as you see.
Number three, Nicole Frechette, over six feet tall there as a senior point leaders, Corbet with 12, Caldwell with nine and Holloway with seven four West side a good pass inside their two held up to it.
I mean you can't you can't play her in back you've got to front her she can't get the ball she calls that so much space goes wherever she wants in the paint so you have to deny the ball.
Brantley up top trying to feed it inside there.
They get it into four set and hits right there off the glass first points for while here in the second half.
And you can see that Edwin has settled down a little bit.
So has a West Side obviously, but that was frantic there at the end of that first half, trying to force the ball in the paint and take it away right there by Gonder.
But the Eagles trying to cut into that a little bit there.
Brantley puts up a shot, rattles in and out of there, no good.
And now the chip going to draw the foul there and we'll go to the line to see Sienna Hilbert right here.
That's going to be her third foul.
So she's got to be careful.
She's really been the big girl underneath it.
Yeah, the big was inside AJC Frechette at the line to call for Chet, the all time school leader in blocks.
And with every block she gets, she just pretty much pads her own record there.
So, yeah, certainly had a phenomenal career.
Gilbert will sit now with those three fouls and that could hurt.
But you got to Rhonda Davis, another six footer in the lineup as well.
You don't really lose a whole lot there for him.
I think it was not so much a height, but her strength that allowed her to just stay solid on the floor and watch, trying to work, connect, to let the Seminoles bring the ball up the floor here a little bit, got inside the shot off the mark by twice, ball loose, Take it out of there.
Now they've got to use a lot of foul going to be called there and going to go through at all fouls is going to be on the way to Seminoles.
Julissa Caldwell, It's been a physical game, there's no doubt about it.
Here you see Frechette wrestling for the ball and of course defeating Jones County number for the state 4741 record.
Frechette had 13 rebounds in that game and we talked about inside players.
Brown puts up the shot at one point, though.
Brantley, with just two points here today in possession will stay with anyone.
Apparently as a as a player that is regarded by Coach Westbrook as their best defensive player, can guard a guard or a post player.
So look for her to really pick it up here in the second half.
Defensively, don't get caught in the corner there it is taken away back on the other end fast, too strong for Thornwell who is open there momentarily.
You see Coach Barber sitting there on the bench there.
She knew they had to there.
If they're able to make it, trying to get them to settle down because that's happened three times in this game where they had fastbreak opportunities and over through the basket faster it just a three point game right here 3330 take it Hatchett averaging ten but just four points today here so far puts up a shot won't quite get the roll.
We've seen a lot of shots rolling out of here today but those teams, I think it was trying to just, you know, force the action and get to the line after the clock will set the offense for the Lady Eagles.
There's the feeling Brantley inside off the glass.
It wouldn't go unable to get that shot to fall today and a foul going to be called on Brantley it's going to be the second on her for the 511 senior averaging ten points a game you see how many rebounds that that was getting without seeing the Hilbert in the game all of a sudden they're controlling the boards that they're in and they were badly rebounded in the first half by the Seminoles a53 here near the five minute mark, three point shot off the mark by Caldwell Hatchett out of there with it fires and on the other end Brantley is there and did a good job just to keep your feet and bounce there fires it inside to set up and I say once again they're gone there for three hits.
Two almost out of bounds.
Is Thomas out of bounds as well And they come back with the three.
Lisa Gonder ties it at 33, just under 5 minutes left here in this third quarter.
And once again, this crowd is right back into it.
Fired up a three point shot on the other end off the mark by Holloway and last touch they said, by Manning who doesn't like the call there but West side will maintain possession man it was and I thought they called the foul here once the foul.
Oh you couldn't see it as great save And then Gardner knocks down the three to tie it take it away by Gondry two on to on the other end there momentarily Hatchett puts up the shot.
It won't go away and it will stay with the Lady Eagles foot on the line right there as the Lady Seminoles trying to save it.
It looked like.
So Hatchett will inbound it into at least an inning.
And magic trying to get it inside.
It looked at the set the ball to set with nine points both for got the defender on a high shoulder and it was a feed was perfect to the baseline so the Lady Eagles lead this thing after trailing by five at the break up by two 3533 West side proud answer on the other end and Korver going to draw the foul right there and go to the line and chance Porter had just a huge first half and really look for her to start picking it back up right here.
You can't let her get that penetration that she had right there.
Some fell asleep for away and she's on the side.
Macon uses a lot of defensive pressure as well.
Offensively, they attack the basket.
It's pretty much the bio on them coming in and they have certainly lived up to that.
Christina Gilbert coming back in the game and you see Corbett's numbers, 12 points and a pair of rebounds for the senior and you see Manning taking a breather right there for at all.
Lindsay Mason in the lineup for the Hawks one of two on that trip besides back the 2.8 3534.
And quickly down on the other end and foot on the line right there by David Hatchett who ran out of real estate and a timeout going to be called, it looks like, by the Lady Seminoles coach Bob Westbrook, again, looking on, proud of the way his team has been able to battle back since the half as the Lady Eagles lead it by one.
Well, it's viewers like you that help make great local programs like these high school basketball championships possible on Georgia Public Broadcasting to show your simply visit our website at W WW dot GPB dot org.
It's totally secure simple to use.
It takes just 2 minutes and thank you for supporting Georgia Public broadcasting.
I certainly appreciate all the viewership this weekend.
It's fun to be able to log on to the website there to watch the archives and check it out here.
And it basically stays on there for a while and kind of keeps the appetite going.
And of course, coming up a little bit later on this afternoon, we turn our attention to boys action between Tucker and Maze.
And that's going to be a good one right there.
At approximately 445 this afternoon, of course, five action later tonight right here at the Arena, Gwinnett Center, The crowd has traveled up from making and they are fired up here today.
They love their Lady Seminoles.
And what a season they've had.
27 and five overall coming in.
Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles at 26 and six ranked number six in quarter out of Woodstock, Georgia.
Cherokee County.
So back to action here after the time out the side with the basketball trailing by one.
Lisa, however, for three what a shot from the corner.
The West side needed that then opens up the perimeter game a little bit and they haven't been very effective from outside.
So just like that, the league goes right back to West Side here.
It's a little bit out there for the active defensively digging up on Gondola a little bit Brantley on the drive and it knocked away from behind but they're going to call a foul here right here on the side to force the old guard around play to see Brandt his numbers was two points today couple of rebounds once on the free throw their number one for this year's Etawah team has held five opponents under 30 points this season.
And that just tells you how impressive they've been defensively.
But West Side Macon has been up and down the flow here, two for two right there for Tiana Brantley for West Side.
Macon has been able to come back against so many teams with so many big leads.
You knew they were for real.
Trailed by 13 in the semifinals the other night against Stone Mountain put out a three point game against Greenbrier in the quarterfinals.
Gilbert kicks it back outside three points by highway short, but down by five against by the ahead.
The hatchet one on one on the other end lays it up and in take it hatchet with their first field goal since the first half gives anyone a two point lead and taken away by Brantley steal one on the scoreboard shy able to go catch it on the foul and go second quarter comes out of there with it a great action that hardly a chance to catch our breath here today I tell you what sort of back and forth up and down the floor.
Oh big defensive end right there by Mason with to the trailing break without taking yourself Johnny Brantley with six points and the Lady Eagles lead it 4137 and couple of fast breaks here for Edwards inside 2 minutes in the third quarter.
They've got to go back with you.
Lisa Weise, courtside.
We've got a great ball game brewing right here.
Start off the mark by trice, catch it breaks three on the other end.
But what a job right there by Holloway hustling knocked that ball away Prevent an easy two Rhonda Davis in the line and it looks like a timeout going to be called by west side making coach there Barber wants to talk things over with her Lady Seminoles who now trail by four after being up by five at the break.
And Bo, I tell you what, you just kind to have that feeling this is one of those games is probably going to come right down to the end then some and then flows.
And I think we're going to see that again.
Coach Westbrook, as you see the contingent that has traveled from Cherokee County today, a lot of blue and white fans to see the Lady Eagles contingent, the home team on the scoreboard here today and the cheerleaders also in the house that Westminster and Westminster West side principal we had on at halftime said she didn't like the lead.
Maybe she was right.
There's still a minute 30 left as to see the lead changes right here, six lead changes, three ties.
It's like a NASCAR race for something and that was thrown away right there.
It looked like Holloway was going to start cutting to the hoop there a little bit and the pass was thrown away.
That was Jaren to Davis.
She did a great job with Stone Mountain's Angel Gray, who held her only 12 points in the semifinals, means every one of the top plays in the state outside.
Certainly could be a perhaps on there and did a good job of that one taken away by Porter.
What a bounce pass right there to Holloway on the other end raise it up and in Wow what a sequence.
12 points for Leticia Holloway eight back to a two point game here.
But one thing is for sure, both West Side, a team that's not going to panic if they're trailing early in the fourth quarter.
No, just add to the hustle factor shot off the mark Rebound helper but thrown too far ahead and take a hatchet with it.
Pull up number rattles in and out of there Mason on the foul wouldn't go still loose and finally taken out of there by Holloway three on two on the bounce pass What a pass but good defense got a hand in the face right there on top of it.
And it was going to slow it down here a little bit.
With 22 seconds left in the third, we've seen two great bounce passes from West Side in the last minute.
And I mention that because always great piece, the 4% with 11 great look from Mason.
And I mentioned that because you don't see women utilize the bounce pass as much as the man shot with but still little time on the clock there and a three point shot would have counted.
But it doesn't go and that'll do it for three quarters of play.
One more left here, 43, 39.
It's the Lady Eagles who will carry a four point lead into the final quarter.
When we return, Augustin back to the sky very high, just like a dragonfly, 4339 at a warm up on West side Macon as we get set for the start of the fourth and final quarter of play from the arena, Gwinnett to determine the class quote a 25 GHC state champion Dave bo back with you.
Lisa weise courtside with us here today.
And both we thought it might come down to the final quarter.
Both these teams have certainly had great seasons and 8 minutes of basketball left to determine the state champs and West Side's got them right where they want them.
The trailing.
Yeah.
So, you know, this is this is what they've made a living off.
This is coming from behind and winning big games with the exception of their first round game, the Lady Seminoles have been involved in some real fighting, but a lot of character on this year's team coach at Baylor crediting her seniors.
But everybody is really gotten it done to follow and go right there.
As West Side opens up the quarter on offense, Lady Eagles rip it away, though.
It's a manning on the other end shot won't go Mason on the fire won't go still loose and it will stay with it.
A wild last touch by West side did you see west but West side rebound at the other end boy and it was good all of the hype but these guys just have all of the hustle free point shot from way outside short from Gonder try to save it did so but into the hands of Corbin the Seminoles back on the other end and going to have a whistle on the floor.
It look like it's going to be on Hatchett and I believe it's going to be for her to match it with some foul trouble right here.
Two shots coming for Sam Corbin.
That would be a big loss.
But she really runs the show for anyone for the missing off the back of the arm right there on the first one.
We've seen a lot of shots rattle in and out today, the but with 13 points and four rebounds.
Another solid afternoon for the senior second of three on the way also rattles in and out of there the rim not friendly today for either team Barner on the other end for three hits it Lisa Carter with another three she went down court just spot it up and she knew she wasn't going to take it to the basket.
She was going to drill the three.
Lisa Gondo with her second three point shot of the afternoon and the senior has nine points and it's now a 4639 lead for the Lady Eagles and a shot right back on the other end by Lisa Caldwell, her first bucket of the second half puts it back to a five point game begin after being guarded by just that block.
They're short on the shot, but last touch by the Lady Seminoles, as you see Brantley the one who went driving in there take it's got a lot of skills Nicole Frechette who was certainly picked it up here in the second half, returns to the lineup.
She'll come in for Mason six foot four freshman who will take the seat off the inbound partially blocked in what a job by Hilbert to keep her momentum But Adam Wall will maintain possession.
He stepped out of bounds as they started to go down court catch it again inbound underneath their own basket.
Howard knocked away last touched by Corbin again and has this final 627 wears on You're going to start seeing more of folks getting a hand in the face there and playing more defense but I mean are out there too solid.
So a turnover after all that?
Well, that was some thoughts the second time about balance force West Side Macon feeding Luke County Harrison County Greenbrier in the quarterfinals and then Stone Mountain to advance to the state championship.
Add a lot of feeding park Central East Bobby Jones score and Jones County hard whistle right here on the floor and that's on Hansen.
She may be gone, but for the back of the line here with 14 as you see Teague and Hatch it and I believe they're going to say that was just for Hatchett so she's got one to go but may be coming out of the lineup right here.
No she will stay in She didn't get called for that last hatchet job.
My apologies to everybody that came from the trunk.
Brantley with the basketball lady Eagles up by three.
What a move inside shot, is there?
Three for Manning.
Great drop step move Alisha Manning with her first bucket since the first half and she's right at six feet and a freshman imagine that.
What a dip for coach Bob Westbrook for that for three on the other end No good ball loose on the floor traveling going to be called on the Lady Eagles and hatchet looks a little banged up there.
She might have twisted an ankle on her way down to the floor there, but she's back up on her own power now, coming out of the lineup.
She will sit with those four fouls.
It probably a smart move.
It's still over five and a half minutes left.
If that was West Side, I'd be feeding CNN in the middle.
The big three piece of Iowa puts up the shot and rattles it home 14 points for Leticia Holloway and a timeout on the fourth 32nd time out.
Going to be called by the Lady Seminoles here with five and a half minutes to go here in this quarter girls championship on GPB.
And it doesn't get much more exciting than this a three point lead for the Etowah Lady Eagles 48 to 45 and what an exciting game it's been back and forth throughout the afternoon.
Well, this championship game can also be viewed live on the GPB internet site around the world at WW W dot gp-b dot org.

Right.
They're going to live webcast and archive available for you on the official website of Georgia Public Broadcasting.
After the time out here and along with the basketball in a three point lead, Chandler with it up top the Lady Eagles with that three point lead still plenty of time, but not a lot of patience.
Strider certainly don't want to force any shots.
5 minutes left, anybody's game.
The game, no shot clock, as we mentioned in high school basketball.
So they can use up as much of that time as they want to.
And it looks like they're content to do that.
Whether or not they'll be able to run off four and a half minutes, though, I doubt they'll be able to do that against the lady Seminole.
Long You play ball control, the more things that eventually can happen.
31 Let's try to open up some of those passing lanes, maybe create an easy bucket somebody backdoor.
Well they're using the old guard around play Kentucky made famous years ago and there's no cut of see here comes the guard around to the right side and he says no cutter coast player tough shot to strong baseline wouldn't go.
She gets very deep and has a tough angle on that shot Caldwell dribbling all the way up top going to be called for the travel and right back to the Lady Eagles.
Well, T.J. Holloway with 14 points today.
That's certainly a familiar position for Coach Favor and West Side trailing, but by just a possession here and still over 4 minutes left to play.
So still game still goes west side 14 of 42 out was 16 of 36 Better numbers for the Lady Eagles but they've been unable to pull away.
The side is forcing turnovers and capitalized and on the other end offensive foul they called on Florida earlier and earlier in the game that wasn't an offensive word see it again right now obviously gondolas have gone to just a great defensive play, stood in there took the charge and I a watch basketball with just under 4 minutes a basket here for a minute what would really some pressure but West side doesn't react to pressure inside to pick up the shot it won't go contact there underneath last touch by Mason it looked like right there so ball back to a west side and you see Mason the big six foot four freshman Unbelievable Can be a pretty good play.
That's back to the Lady Seminoles who can tie it up or put within one right here.
Corbin, Going to try to tie three point range shot wouldn't go Haven't been able to get the three points going today and now back on the other end that's five.
And he swings it back out off the glass.
Mason It wouldn't go for shit on the follow on in this 13 points for Nicole Frechette and the Lady Eagles are fired up.
I'm out on the floor a full time out called by Coach Barber and West Side Macon and when Edwin had to get the rebound at the other end where they haven't been able to rebound they got that all important one look at them hit the boards here nets for shit with the putback so the ATL faithful on their feet here and fired up They're leading by five It's 316 to go Georgia's longest running weekly high school sports in academics program Prep Sports Plus airs Thursday evenings at 730 and Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.. Each week, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletic programs and much more.
That's prep sports.
Plus returning February 10th exclusively on GPB and host Jim Pinocchio does an excellent job with that show.
Always a fan favorite around the state.
I can't tell you how many people just covering local sports throughout the state always want to know about Bret Sports Plus and always eager to try to feature an athlete from their local school on their just a tour everybody loves to be on that show.
They love to be on TV, period, as we're seeing right there.
Exactly six.
So after the full time out Paul by West Side, the Lady Seminoles will have the basketball here trailing by five.
And they're certainly not used to trailing.
But time is starting to run out here playing for the state championship a little bit different.
BLOCK from the high right here, five and six.
It compounds it with a foul.
Just frustration.
Both teams going after their first state championship in a while playing for the title back in 1989.
That was their last final.
They lost to a morrow by 20.
Good moves West.
I know we're going to see a full court press, 3 minutes in regulation and a lot taking their time.
Bring it up the floor here.
Ball in the hands of Tianna Brantley, who's been somewhat quietly offensively today but has been big on the defensive side of the ball and has really worked at around the clock and a little keep away right here clock down to 233 bonder dribbling.
Oh what a move right here a foul going to be called there Brissett knocked to the floor but she will go to the line there drove it down the lane and had the presence of mind to kick it left when he saw her player streaking to the basket.
And that's the situation right there Bo Caeser good delivery as we were talking about, you were saying sometimes good things happen when you do spread the floor like that and all sorts of patients open it up some ways.
There for yes, numbers today, 14 points and four boards.
What a day for the senior.
That's number 24.
Joanna Davis back in the lineup for West side.
Yeah.
Listen first this is on second turns out to be a good foul for the Lady Seminoles zone in the middle and now blocked here in 2 minutes What a girls championship on the line here and going to have a whistle underneath them they're going to get Alisha manning right there actually they're going to get Sierra more for West Side Point.
Initially, they got a foul on it a while there, but an Alicia manning going to the line, shooting a one on one right here.
So in the bonus, she's a freshman seven.
Never been here before.
No.
I just see the free throw story here that and this is on the front and ten of the west side of the follow is there.
Wow.
And that is huge right there for a with the follow missing those two free throws just a moment ago but gets the bucket right there and that's huge seven point game with 2 minutes left Davis lost her putting there momentarily three point shot for Davis off the front of the hour.
No good foul going to be called it looks like on Brantley I think it was Tisha Holloway and they aren't going to get Holloway there.
It looks like they pointed at Brantley there.
So a couple of fouls going in favor of the Lady Eagles and Brant and Brantley will be the one at the line.
Another one in one situation right here had a line in the bonus but the Eagles with just five fouls have a couple of to give here and I just see Brantly's totals four points and three rebounds West side is going to push the ball and don't worry about the three.
There's still enough time.
This is on the front end right now.
The way the Eagles got to make those free throw shots that shot right there wouldn't go for Holloway rebound Manning find for gets it out of there and now Ghana will pull it up and a timeout going to be called by that around 32nd time out with 138 left in the contest.
This game has gone back and forth.
But the latest Seminoles have been unable to get really any closer than about five points.
Coach Westbrook called the time out to get his best ball handler in the game.
That's Hatchet with this pressure that he knows he's going to see from West side now and this at a walk crowd is fired up the West side crowd sitting down, kind of quiet right now, but still a chance here with a minute 38, as you see the folks from Woodstock have made the trip here today has made for an exciting atmosphere of high school basketball here at the arena, when center 16.
So crunch time right here, both for both games, but the Eagles just have to pretty much take care of the basketball right here and hit some free throws.
Meanwhile, the lady senators certainly have the ability to make it back up there quickly.
Time is starting to run down and they're going to be forced to foul and do so right here.
You see Hatchett handle it against that great pressure from Holloway.
That was a great substitution at the right time, as you see Lisa Gondor at the line right here, trying to widen the gap here.
A seven point lead for Edelman, 55 at number 20.
And the line for the Lady Eagles.
She down is one and one right here.
One more teen foul.
And at a while we'll be shooting to the rest of the way, Rhonda, with nine points trying to reach double figures right here.
Anderson hits on the front end.
She'll have another shot.
Move off the line a little bit.
Rhonda rattles home with something on 11 points for Lisa Donner, a 70% free throw shooter who knocks down a pair and a turnover right there on the other end.
And a timeout going to be called by Coach Westbrook, a 32nd timeout with 118 to go and up by nine there lead of the afternoon 54 to 45 and they've got the ball zero more through that pass and she has not played much and just didn't understand that her player was not ready available to make that catch so the Lady Eagles can feel it right now but still anything can happen in a minute.
18 There's one thing Coach is telling her to wear right now that is no fouls don't foul which is kind of goes against what he's been saying all year long about we don't worry about fouls because of the depth but I think in this situation you're right he's probably saying that as we see the timeouts remaining one side at just one and a half still with three remaining here go to Westbrook electing to use one they're just a moment ago and they still have free reach coming up of course later on quite a boys action going to be a good match up five eight still to play here tonight and a whistle at their finish of Jones number 15 who has checked in the driver's seat.
And while high school has been around since the mid seventies, they've played for the state championship, as we mentioned most recently against Monroe back in 1989, but lost by 20 in that game.
So we've got quite a history here trying to cap it off right here.
He has his numbers.
He hits the shoes, a money player take a hatchet with a pair.
And that's an 11 point game at 56 to 45 with over a minute left.
And you see Hatchett on the bench right there, three point shot from outside, going to be short.
Great save by Davis right there.
And Corbett thought about the 33. shot on the road from Jones off the mark no good kept alive by Caldwell that still wouldn't go in a Lisa manning brings it down with 46 seconds left jump off for possession arrow at a long catch that's west side just in the basketball business about the last four years.
They've done a great job down there with this program.
They certainly establish some football for tradition under Coach Robert Davis, and they've done the same basketball wise and the coach step over.
This is a program that's going to be around for many years and consistently good foul right there.
You see Lisa turn up there.
What as we mentioned, she might be the smallest player on the floor, but she's not afraid to really mix it up.
Oh, I'll tell you what, They'll be passing out Cramer's atomic bomb in the locker room, some big time banging going on, Donna, with a big afternoon today, averaging right around 5.8 points on the year.
But as you see, 12 here today with four rebounds to go along with it.
And her two threes were key when she hit two big momentum shots and go under there in the bench.
Never did.
And we're going to see some subs here now.
Kayla Rollins, number 40, checking in.
Jamal, the number 52.
Number 25, Sarah Schoonmaker, who we saw earlier, is back in the lineup as well.
Hatchett will stay in the game along with Brantley.
He'll play a131 zone.
Caldwell on the other end.
Corbett from way outside short on that one last touch though by Edelman.
But with 27.6 seconds left, the Lady Eagles well in control here for the fires up another three short taken down by Brantley WHISTLE and a foul on Davis Brantley will go to the line here and the analog crowd is firing up the chance here.
What a great year West side has had and you think about that coming down the stretch not ranked when the year began and then beating all those excellent teams.
Last year's defending champion or I should say the defending champion from last year and coming from behind 13 down against that Stone Mountain team.
What a job they've done.
And they've put on a great show here to the Sweet 16 last year and they mentioned state championship game here today for the Lady Seminoles And you see Grant at the line there knocking one down and Hatchett will come out of the lineup there.
Again, the junior who still has another year and you see the smiles on the whole bench right here.
The Lady Eagles set to celebrate their first ever and girl state basketball championship.
20 seconds left, three point shot from Caldwell in and out of there no foul He had try puts up a shot hits right there Good shot first points of the day for Trice who is averaging over 11 so slowed a somewhat offensively and will have a foul in the back here with 4.2 on the clock but that's just about going to do it as the celebration begins on the bench.
And with this and a crowd, the Lady Eagles averaging 60 points on offense this season and they've got 60 today.
Brantley at the line for one more here, Nancy hits two of two and that will just about do it.
Yeah.
Final shot from Cardwell it's short and that'll do it the celebration is on as the Lady Eagles win it 6147 for the quarter.
It's on the west side going into that frantic pace.
And once they settled down, they were able to run their offense and get things done.
The Woodstock based school, Cherokee County, bringing home the championship coach Bob Westbrook robbed Reynolds, the assistant coaches and of course, the seniors going out of state title holder their first in school history.
Can for the Lady Eagle program they've had a great year came in ranked number six in the state 26 and six overall but win number 27 the most special of the season.
So he said he's got a big team 646262.
Let's go down to Lisa who's standing by with a winning coach.
Coach Westbrook, congratulations.
How does it feel to finally be one of those people that gets to talk about winning a state title?
It's unbelievable.
I I'm speechless.
And usually I can talk a lot, but I'm just speechless that it's all about them.
These girls are tremendous.
The best group in the world I've ever worked with.
It's all about the girls.
I'm just a I'm just an innocent bystander.
And earlier you were saying that you expected your team to finish top ten when the season started.
This is obviously above and beyond your expectations.
But you said these girls really wanted it.
Yeah, I think we're about to stop dancing here right now.
Congratulations.
Thank you, Dave.
Let's stick with you.
All right.
Great job today, Lisa, The old Lady Eagles.
You're a winner.
6147 over the West Side.
Mason, Lady Seminoles, a great game here today.
