Live from the arena at the Gwinnett Center, it's the four A state title game, girls between Forest Park and Fayette County.
First of 11 here on GPB.
And, of course, we want you to sit back, relax and enjoy a great day of basketball and a great weekend day to night hoops.
And welcome aboard.
I'm Gill Tyree.
And for the call of today's game, let's go to courtside for Messrs.
Still, Clyde Tunick and Mark Harmon.
Both Natalie Attired.
Gentlemen, it's all yours.
Thank you very much, Gill.
And good afternoon, everyone.
To Cryogenic, my partner is Mark Harmon.
It is our pleasure to be bringing you four girls, high school championship basketball.
You have to have a star.
You have to have balance.
You've got to have a little luck.
I make it this far and fast Park has all that with a star in the middle.
I tell you, for as far as 26 and five on the season, those five losses, not one time have they lost to a team from the state of Georgia and they are led by Ashley Cole.
She is outstanding.
She's a senior junior.
She's 510.
She averages 14 points a game.
She runs the show.
She's also the daughter of head coach Stephen Cole.
And she is the key to that basketball team.
Well, we know she will get the ball a lot.
Coach will give it to her.
And let's look at that starting lineup.
As you look at this team and they are balanced with some size, Nikki Wilson is going to have to do a job inside.
And as you mentioned, Steve, call you at the school.
Two years.
What a thrill it is for him to be in the finals.
Coach, first of all, congratulations for making it to the championship game.
What does it feel like for your team to be here?
Well, it really feels good.
You know, it's the payoff at the end of the year when you make it this far for all the hard work you did over the summer.
And coach, what do you think it's going to take there at the end of this game for you to take home some hardware?
We're going to have to limit them to one shot, stop dribble penetration and just listen to simple, simple directions.
Coach, thanks so much and good luck.
Thank.
Well, there you heard from the coach, Forest Park.
He said second shot's got to keep the tempo down.
Your opinion, Mark, what else do they have to do?
Well, they definitely got to win the battle aboard.
That's going to be one thing.
They got to play that aggressive defense.
They're going to have to also watch Brianna Banks.
Well, I will tell you, from doing games in the state of Georgia, there is some of the best talent and no one in the country may be better than this young lady Brianna.
Thanks, Brianna.
Banks to play counties, Lady Tigers, she is outstanding.
She is going to UConn.
That tells you just how good she is to go to one of the premier, if not the premier college basketball program in the country.
She's a McDonald's all-American.
She averaged 16 and a half points a game and she could average a lot more.
She is very unselfish.
And as you watch this basketball game, watch, Brianna Banks pass the basketball because she does a lot of no look, stop, very entertaining to watch.
Abby is also going to the University of South Carolina.
She's six four.
I'll tell you what, Coach John Strickland has been here before, not came away with the big fries.
He wants it this year.
Coach Strickland, championship game.
What does it feel like to have your team here?
Hey, you know, we've been here three out of last four years, so, you know, but, you know, it's a great feeling.
And this is a great place, a great venue to play.
And I'm glad to be here.
So, you know, we represent a lot and a lot for their families, a lot for our school, a lot for our community and stuff like that and those players.
So it's a great feeling to be here today.
Thanks so much.
Good luck, Coach.
I saw the coach there.
I talked to him before the game.
Marquese So I've gotten so frustrated.
I've been here so much.
It's time for these kids.
A lot of the seniors have been there before for this team.
I'm guessing.
Just play your game, play your game.
That's going to be one of the key things.
One of the interesting things about Fayette County is they were at school today at 630 in the morning, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
They have this early practice.
They get about there about 630.
They practice about seven, 715.
He kept them in the routine today, state championship game.
They're there at 630.
They're suiting up.
They're going through their pre game promotion at 7:00 this morning out of Fayette County.
And coaches will tell you let's not change the routine just because we are here for the championship.
And as you watch this game, Mark, you'll see on both sides of the court, freshman, sophomores, juniors, it's why college coaches, both boys and girls, come here to recruit because there is a wealth of talent that keeps coming up through the ranks.
One thing that's going to also be interesting to watch is that Forest Park has won eight straight Fayette County historic counties, won 18 straight.
Forest Park is 119 straight.
So something's going to have to give too long.
Winning streaks are on the line.
Well, we look at the road to the championship and a couple of tight games in there, but for the most part, pretty comfy.
That's right.
And I mean, that's the way coaches like to go.
They haven't really been tested all that much.
A very close game there at McIntosh, 5149.
But overall, they've done a good job and we'll probably look at the other road to the final Four.
And you've got to have, as I said, mention a little luck, a lot of talent and a star.
And here is the road to the championship for those Fayette County Tigers.
You know, Fayette County played Chattahoochee in the semifinal game.
I watched that game.
It was a very close game until about the fourth quarter when Fayette County just took charge.
And who took charge was Briana Banks.
She is really a fun player to watch.
The viewers today are going to get his show because she can really light it up.
Well, you know, you look at her numbers and you see she averaged 16 points a game and you're saying UConn.
I mean, my goodness, when Maya moore went there, she was averaging close to 30.
But the coach told me before the game, this is a very unselfish player.
They feed off her and that is what's going to have to happen.
She is the key to this game.
Brianna.
Banks has been here before.
Well, we've got it coming up.
It's for a girls high school basketball championship.
It's for right here to go that center.
That's coming up right after this.
Let's get it started.
Let's get started.
Let's get inside.

Have you tried all of these?
So I can't believe you haven't done this before.
wow.
Look at that.
A bike jingle.
Do they take like a good neighbor?
Step over there.
Hey, guys.
do it again.
Do it again like a good neighbor.
Step over there in my office.
State Farm.
I think we're good.
State Farm agents are there when you need them.
and welcome back to the girls class for a high school basketball championship Forest Park against Fayette County.
A lot of this game is going to be determined by tempo or.
Absolutely.
You know, Forest Park likes to get it up and going.
They like the running game.
They like to play defense.
They like to score off the defense.
But when they get the chance, they like to get that fast break going and that's where they get a lot of their points.
And you're looking at a team in the semifinals.
It doesn't matter how far or how ahead they are.
They score 27 points in the fourth quarter alone.
So they're an explosive team.
They're an explosive team.
And one thing I don't want to stress this enough, but they really come after you on defense.
They just take no quarter.
There's number 22 right there.
Nicki Wilson is she's the heart and soul of this basketball team.
Where the basketball is.
You'll find Nikki Wilson.
Now, would you look at this Fayette County team?
They are loaded inside and out, well balanced.
And as we mentioned, they have the two stars, but they've got some other folks on this team that could do some damage.
They actually do.
And a couple of them are going to college.
Kyra Kane, she's a53 guard.
She's going to beat you.
Parker.
She's a signee going there, just a very good, pesky player in Candice Williams.
She'll be all over the court.
And you got to watch out.
Also for Anisha Watson.
She's a sophomore and she's a good long range shooter.
And you'll see Elam even though she is six four, she's going to my old alma mater, University of South Carolina.
She's going to be tough inside.
They're going to have to stop her from getting those second shots that the coach is talking about.
That's really going to be the key to this basketball game as Elam Abmas just a monster inside.
Not only can she score, she scored about 11 and a half points a game.
She's a great rebounder and she's a terrific shot blocker.
Well, she averages just about five shots blocked a game.
So if you want to take it inside, take your chance and perhaps maybe try to get her in a little foul trouble.
Yeah.
Also, she misdirects a lot of shots because when the opposition teams go in there, they know that she's in there and at six four, she's really a tower of power for that ball club.
Well, we're getting ready to get underway with the four state high school championships.
Good to have you aboard Forest Park in the dark uniforms.
It will be Fayette County in the white and black.
And there are officials tonight, Derek Taylor, Tim Buckner and Blue Mia Spurlock.
You know, we want to remind everybody that this is also being shown on GPB, Dawg on the Internet.
You can also blog to your heart's content.
We got guys standing by commenting on all the games all day long today and all day long tomorrow so that, yeah, if you got a chance to blog log on to GPB dot com and you can do all the basketball talking and blogging that you want.
And let us remind you that these memories will last forever because after the game goes on in the night goes on, we'll tell you how you can see these games even when they are over.
So here we are getting ready to get underway.
It is those Forest Park Lady Panthers against the Tigers and we're underway.
With the Tigers under control.
I'll be able to just see the pace of the game early going.
Let's see how they feel each other out.
Maybe they'll take it a little bit slow the beginning, but we'll see the Forest Park with the big block in the zone and they're going to run with the ball to look if they pull it back, getting back on defense.
So you see the big girl in the Middle Forest Park looking inside of that.
Mark mentioned some of those change shots With the change you could see now the fear counties in that zone defense right now, it's kind of a matchup type zone up on top and they're going to make make Forest Park shoot from the outside.
Looks like, well, they like playing that zone and they also give you food court pressure fans just like sitting back and making you take those outside shots.
So So Pace 013 pointer off the rim and there you see it with three back just underway here at the four eight high school basketball state championship and lots more basketball on top, not only tonight, but this weekend.
This is the girl that you got to watch, Brianna Baynes.
She's the star of this team and she's really maybe the best senior basketball player in the state of Georgia inside of him.
And that's what they're going to have to contradict an inside game, inside and out.
You can see, Brianna Banks she didn't do much on that.
MORGAN She's impressive with the ball.
She is.
She's a great ball handler.
She's a great passer.
She's so unselfish and she makes everybody around her that much basketball.
Sometimes when you think of his own defense, you think maybe they're laid back.
This is an aggressive Fayetteville, Fayette County zone defense.
They'll come out and they'll challenge, as you can see.
But when push comes to shove, they want you taking that outside shot just on the way.
It's two nothing.
Play it up inside.
And there's another one, those box by Edey and she averages five on the break going the other way up and no good and fast park with control We're having a lot of up and down up and down a fast pace.
Both these teams like to get it up and going.
Of course, that's the way to break the zone.
Long shot for the three by Ashley call no doing and fab controls number 11 right there.
Deandra Jenkins he's just a sophomore but she runs the ball long set shot down and good by Raven by Anissa Watson and she has a five nothing pass part yet to get on the board.
Well that scares you to see a three pointer with the inside in the half.
Yeah.
They've got several kids that can shoot the basketball and that's going to be a key part.
Taking time, working out against the zone.
And there she is again able to change the shot, make outnumbered.
Watch Jenkins run the fast break bad county up no good, but to the line they will go That's key Andre Jenkins will shoot to right now things are going Fayette County's way they're up five nothing they hit the three pointer They went inside of their big, big center absence and now they're going to hit the free throws.
This Fayette County team has been here for three of the last four years in the semifinals, talked to Coach Strickland before, and he says, I know there's no crying in sports, but if we lose this one, you might get a tight shot because it'll be a territory.
First one was good.
You know, he told me that they got two small championship trophies there and they just so much want to have the great big state championship trophy for class four.
And there you see that fake defense extending out to midcourt now the zone still the two three, but moving way out and putting pressure on their big core seven nothing they had up and still there you see the superstar Briana back showing what she can do a double team there and maybe just a layup and a foul by Briana Banks willing to fancy there that's what I've said about Nikki Wilson she is all over the basketball court really the heart and soul of this for our Lady Panthers team where the basketball is.
You're going to find Nikki.
So the first lady for this Ricky Wilson line, she will go six foot senior.
First foot is up and good averaging eight points a game and six rebounds.
So you're right, Mark.
She is the heart and soul does it all.
So they finally break the ice and Force Park gets the first point of the ball game.
You know, Nikki Watson always seems to be right in the middle of the action.
She's a slippery player.
She can drive to the hoop and score and she'll be doing that throughout the game.
Second one up and good.
And that breaks the ice, maybe loosens up for park at least on the offensive end for it county working against the past park zone defense looking inside good passing but intercepted then here comes fourth mark on the break and right there Mark you could see he's thinking about going to the hoop and then rethinking it.
Coming up.
So just under way here in the girls for a championship, it is third county, up 7 to 2.
We're back in a moment.
Tonight on GPB is made possible in part by supporters of the Georgia High School Association, including the following.
National studies show that students who participate in activities like music, sports and drama not only have better grades in attendance, but they develop the character to handle adversity, the grace to accept defeat and the self-confidence to start over, take part, get set for life.
This and welcome back to the high school basketball championship seven Too early going.
We talked so much about Fayette County being here three of the last four years, Mark and trying to win that championship.
How about Forest Park?
First time they've been in the championship since 1907?
Yeah, that's about what, 41 years they wanted that year.
That's a good thing.
They were in it and they wanted.
But you know, all the people down in Forest Park, they're hoping for another championship again this season.
Jessica Henderson to inbound the ball let's go to courtside and Nikki noted We'll check back with Nikki Noto in a second.
I'm ready to go ahead, Nikki.
Okay, guys, you could sense the frustration in Forest Park, but coach said, don't get down, keep shooting.
And we just have to play our game and to keep it basic and remember the fun too mental.
So look for them to pick up the speed, get a little more intense about things because you can tell that they are definitely frustrated with everything right now.
All right, Nic, thanks.
You're right.
They need to loosen it up a little bit.
There you see a little razzle dazzle up here and that's why we had a bang.
She's going to be inside.
She is so smooth and she's left handed, which is a little bit interesting.
Not all that many left handed players out there.
She is left handed.
She's very good, Johnny, with that pressure in the zone jump ball and the arrow is pointing towards harm's way.
All right.
You know, I find interesting to market, both these teams have traveled out of state and I used to play ball.
You never travel.
Maybe more than 20, 25 miles.
Both these teams have been out of state, play some of the best competition in the country.
And I think that gets them ready for these finals.
It absolutely does.
And like I mentioned earlier, fourth, Clark has won 19 in a row.
Fayette Counties won 18 in a row.
So both have long winning streak and except for losing outside the state finals, you know, Jessica Anderson will take it even if it was off the board and it's 9 to 5, all of a sudden they had taken it to the hole.
Nicely done.
Nice job.
You know, that was real trinkets.
So you can see this team, this great county team, how balanced they are inside and out.
And look at that defense, extending the midcourt and putting some outside pressure on Parker.
Absolutely.
They're in kind of a13, one type zone.
They fall back down and try to make and shoot from the outside.
Forest Park does have some players that can hit from the outside trip and that'll be a foul.
On Kindra Jenkins as the first the first love in the five foot county up by six first quarter.
Good to have you with us for this Clottey girls basketball championship and much more basketball to come inside up and good nicely done right.
So John Allen gets inside that zone and that's the weakness of the zone.
There will be holes and they know she's six one.
She's a senior, she's an only seven points.
And they're going to have to go inside and get some points and not look able to dominate in there.
Speaking of the devil in and out here and IBM puts it in for a second bucket of the game, she's really going to have a great career at South Carolina.
I think she's had a great career at bay.
It's a big girl.
She really does a great job on the defensive end.
That whole offensive stuff.
There you see it, that fed counting zone that is so, so aggressive.
Make sure to watch replays of all the basketball championship games.
So PBS's Knowledge Channel beginning Monday.
Replays will begin on Monday with the quest for a matchup starting with the girls at 8 p.m., followed by the boys at ten Class five games.
When we play off Tuesday with one on Wednesday, two on Thursday, three on Friday.
So check out all the replays on GPB knowledge Forest Park with the ball handler running it up.
They like their offense to come off their defense.
And there's Nicky again diving in.
What about you?
Add it up and get a no good and they keep throwing it up and rejection by and got and so far he has at least to my count at least two blocks and perhaps three.
So she is showing early that she is going to be a force inside.
And that's really something the Forest Park is going to have to address because they're after that inside, they're going to have to get some some easy buckets in the paint, all three quarter time.
But that's no good.
And Anderson missed all that one little time so far.
Early March for this Forest Park team.
Right time.
Brianna counts this look out with the rebound.
She's going to Clayton State next to that was Brian Banks left hander looks like a run can go to tech rebound and maybe I'm just dominating both inside and out but the numbers nice pass and they slow it down and pull it back out this third county team knows what they're doing.
It's a very seasoned teams, very experienced team they've been here for.
You said two of the last three of the last four years.
So they know what this kind of pressure is like for parks and credit hanging right in there, trying to break with the ball.
But turnovers hurting them early.
And here comes Fayette County.
Boy Jenkins is just everywhere out there really the ball handler as he leads the fast break.
So now we're picking up the pace a little up and down we go and maybe a timeout to slow things down.
You know, Forest Park likes to use a lot of people on the the coach game because he will later change a lot of different players, run them in, run them out, people's players.
But there you see Coach Paul at the school for two years actually play Division one football.
And according to Dickinson, Washington just got into basketball.
So he enjoys it.
You know, talking about coaching his daughter, You know, not only is his daughter the star of the team, but, you know, that's a coach player.
It's a father player type relationship.
And he says it's worked out very, very well.
He said after practice, after games and they get in the car to drive home, they leave basketball at the arena or at the practice court.
They never take it home with it.
Well, I found that then the coach, their daughter or their sons, the head coach is normally the mom at home, so she's always talking about playing time.
And that's really what she said.
they're a minute to go.
First quarter.
What a basketball championship, girls that is.
They add up by six and could be more up and beautiful still doing boy Candice Williams quick hands playing the aggressive defense in Fayette County they will come after you know they're playing in the sort of zone defense but it's kind of a man matchup type zone.
But Candice Williams, only a freshman, the coach told me before the game, look out, she will be a superstar getting time on this quality team as only a freshman.
You know, I written down in my notes, pesky defensive player and I think that pretty much showed it right there it's he made the steal and went up and no good and with about 14 seconds.
Fayette County will have a shot at adding to their lead.
Looking inside to close this first quarter out there she is again the youngster from outside no good Forest Park will get one shot off if they told how it is.
wouldn't that be good?
But a good shot to time.
So up and down, a bit of a slow start.
But then they got rocking and after one it is Fayette County, 15, Forest Park seven, and the girls for a basketball championship, this time on Secrets of the Dead.
While America worked on the bomb, Japan created its own secret weapon, an advanced sub to blow up the Panama Canal.
Japanese super sub on secrets of the Dead.

Let me remind you that GPB has partnered all season with the USA and scored Atlanta to bring you the best game scores, rankings, brackets and launch apps from around the state.
GPB is your home for great high school sports in Georgia, and we certainly have some great sports going on here at the Planet Center.
Let's go back to Nikki Noto, our sideline reporter.
Courtside.
Nikki, what you got?
Hey, thanks, guys.
I just walked out with Kiana, the senior and she hurt her knee and she said that it bent when she was dribbling and now she said that she can't feel her foot, that her foot is numb and that her knee is in so much pain that she doesn't think she's going to be able to return.
So the trainer took her to the back of the putting ice on her right now and hopefully have an update a little later for you guys.
All right.
So let's keep that in mind.
That connection is hate to see someone come to the state finals come this far.
Dixon get injured any time and especially in a big ball game like this and that is the driver.
What a big disappointment for her.
Hopefully they can you know I sit down or whatever and she can come back.
We'll keep our fingers crossed.
I have seen that happened last year.
A star player in the boys game got hurt in the very first minute of the game.
He couldn't play and his team lost.
And then he went on to have a pretty good career in college.
About him in the moment, fans attacking the zone of Forest Park, very tiny inside and out.
Brianna Banks just starts to as she drives in there.
They've done a pretty good job of keeping her away from the basket around the three point stripe.
Let me tell you, if she gets the basketball and they give her a seam, she is very quick off the dribble and can drive drive to the hoop just underway in the second quarter.
They're quite a girl's high school basketball championship.
You're looking at Fayette in the white Fayette County with a couple of superstars.
One of them right there, Brianna Banks, number 13, very close to the freshman with the wall three short.
And let's see which way to go.
And it will be Fayette County.
We've mentioned it, Mark.
You look at these rosters and sure, from the start, the seniors lost lives, underclassmen and their car reversal before sparks fall.
You know, right now with the score 18 to 7 Fayette County in the league you can kind of see that the experience factor, the fact that they've been up there at the Gwinnett Arena for the last two, three of the last four years has been a big factor for them.
They've played a lot looser and three out of three good nights.
Ashley Cole, You can see why just the junior team recruited by some Division one schools.
She really runs the show.
She's the key to that offense.
It's an important to Forest Park to give her the basketball and let her do her thing, which is to score a couple of turnovers.
And Clark Clark brings it the other way.
Tip ball So it's not over and back.
County remains in that tight zone.
Get a little sloppy, some more wide open and they caught up with little Candice Williams the to take the shot again she doesn't mind throwing it up.
No she's got a lot of confidence for just the young freshman but she's a pesky defensive player.
She's a good little point guard and she's got a good high school career ahead of it.
Large park looking for some momentum.
And there they have a second straight bucket by Ashley Cole.
And all of a sudden we got an 18 to 12 ballgame.
Boy, a three pointer, a two pointer.
They want to get Ashley Cole, the basketball team in a hole inside.
Nice pass.
But another turnover and force park is one last lead down here.
You see that pass though?
What I told in the pre game show Briana Banks she can really see the open player and she gets the basketball to her teammates She's very very unselfish.
She could score easily over 20 points a game if she so wanted to say thank you for supporting her to all five seniors on this Fayette County team will be playing college basketball somewhere around the country next year.
So that will tell you just how good this team is and just how deep they are.
Absolutely right.
And of course, I'm going to be watching, you know, Brianna, Banks at UConn, she'll be on ESPN and a few other places in the years to come where she's got a great game.
And you can see what Geno Auriemma saw in her inside and starting to back him up and makes it look easy but not to be in class.
Park know what they do is a controlled break.
If they have it, they'll take it.
If they don't, they'll pull back.
Right.
I like the fact that Ashley Cole has the basketball right here and she's trying to make something happen.
But so far, Eben has been dominant on the boards, looking wide open for the king.
No good pass controls again.
Boy, Ricky Wilson has a handful of rebounds already in this basketball game.
Duke took him to the basket and there's a foul.
And I'll tell you, we talked about it in the beginning of the game.
Coach Cole said one shot, that's it.
And so far they've been doing that.
There you see the shot and one you know, I like the way Nicki Wilson plays.
She's a senior.
This is going to be her last high school basketball game.
She's six feet tall.
She averages eight points, but she is constantly around the basketball.
She's constantly right in the thick of the action.
I just love that about her.
But this went up and no good to talk about Phone lines as far as part time.
They will not be intimidated by Fayette County.
As I mentioned, they went and played some games down in Mississippi and Memphis and Ohio.
So they are seasoned group marker.
They have seen the best competition around the country.
They have lost Park has not lost to a team from the state of Georgia, went undefeated in Georgia.
So we'll see in that how that plays out the rest of the way.
Well, as 1813, a five point lead as we have a brief timeout.
But it's getting close and the tempo is picking up for this high school championship basketball from the Gwinnett Center in almost Come on, Gp-B is made possible in part by supporters of the Georgia High School Association, including the following.
Have you tried one of these is something I can't believe we haven't done this before.
wow.
Look at that.
A bike.
How did you jingle?
Do the check, ladies.
Good neighbor.
Step over there.
Hey, guys.
do it again.
Do it again like a good neighbor.
Step over there in my office.
State Farm.
I think we're good.
State Farm agents are there when you need them.
Supply.
Jack.
Mark Harmon, our pleasure to be bringing you these for a high school girls basketball championship.
Fan County up Forest Park, 18 to 13.
Early observations.
I think the early observation right now is that Fayette County has a five point lead, despite the fact that Brianna Banks just has a couple of points.
She hasn't shot that many times.
I think Forest Park is doing a good job defensively on her.
They're keeping her away from the basket.
They're keeping her out around the the home run stripe.
And she can shoot the three pointer, don't get me wrong.
But she's less effective if she's 30 feet away than when she drives to the hoop.
So we'll see if they find the basketball to her a little bit more here late in this second half, second quarter, IBM's six four got off a couple of shots early inside.
And so far in the second quarter, she's been kind of quiet, as I mentioned.
If she goes up, she goes in, she gets a three point play.
Well, you know, they took a timeout right there.
And I'm sure that that's what Coach John Strickland was telling us.
Hey, we haven't gone inside the Elam very often.
Let's go back into her season.
She could use her height, her six, four size.
He towers over the rest of the sports park, you know, front court.
So let's go into her and see what she can do.
And she gets a hoop there.
And maybe the three point play as we mentioned, we'll play her college ball at the University of South Carolina, averaged just under 12 points a game and 4.6 blocks a game.
So she's got it all.
She's got it going on, misses the foul shot 2013 just about halfway through this second quarter.
And you know, she has a pretty nice jumpshot, too.
She had a couple of 15 footers in the semifinal game.
So she's got you know some range as well.
If they don't go inside too well, she has good hands and we are off and running with fair counter.
You get your initial Watson who's got the basketball right now.
She's a long range dumped shooter if they leave her open.
So Berry that three and four sport now has matched up with Fayette County they're looking inside marked Yeah, they are looking inside and that's where you know one of their advantages is there's a three pointer we talked Richardson Right well I tell you she's got a nice rotation on there and they're going to have to put a hand in her face because you can't let her have that wide open jumper.
Still feel you, Watson with that three pointer and Forest Park trying to catch her going to the hoop and a little bit of an intimidation.
So just as we talked about IBM not really being aggressive, she's come up with some big plays.
Let me remind you, here's your chance to chat live during the championship games.
Go to GP dot award slash sports and chat high school basketball with the experts and scores.
Lana that's GPB dot org slash sports Forest Park controls.
We're willing to slow down the tempo just a bit very fast.
A call to basketball and they need to get it back to her and let her work some of her magic for him.
County in that zone, aggressive on the outside, even taking care of everything inside.
And this is an important time for the Hart team as they miss that three mark you're down by ten with a couple of minutes to go.
You want to keep this team within range.
Nice moves up and floater.
My goodness Breanna Banks can play.
She is silky.
I mean you know you look at some of these players like Michael Jordan was, they're just so smooth out there and she has that style of game Now look at picking them up more for thought coach if they would do that and drop back in that two three zone and that's what they do they all making Forest Park work, the basketball work, the basketball, they can't really go inside too much because of every play in there.
So they're going to have to hit the outside jump.
And there's that turnover and a little frustration on the court for Mark Parks and coach Steve Cortez.
Let's calm down.
Let's take a timeout.
Let's talk about this.
Well, this is the biggest lead of the game for Fayette County.
They're up 12 points right now.
There's 2 minutes to go in the first half.
You don't want this game to get away from you right now.
So it's good time to call a timeout, kind of regroup, call a play, work a play, calm everybody down.
And because it's definitely not over, I thought this was going to be maybe the most competitive game of the day today.
So we talked about it that this team has scored 27 points in the second half and mainly in the fourth quarter the other night.
Let's take a look at some of the games coming up this afternoon.
It is a full tilt of competition going here to get to those games in a moment.
But we've got the five game coming up, Miller Grove and Rockdale County.
That's just one of the games.
We'll show you the full slate little later in our game.
Yeah, that'll be the next one up in the boys.
And that should be a dandy.
Two Miller girls going for three straight championships, turnover, trying to go inside and it got to this quicker hands look at the moves and just enjoy.
Nice pass inside and the foul And that was all made possible by Briana Banks You know Brianna Banks she's she's five nine.
She just dribbles the basketball.
She moves up and down the court.
I mean, she could definitely play point guard if they want to do maybe at Yukon for Geno Auriemma.
Maybe that's what he's got in mind.
But she's just a terrific passer.
She could have shot that ball.
She would have wanted to, but she saw her teammate open and she dished it up there.
The number ten, Kyra, came in to the line to shoot two.
And I think what's deceiving about Brianna Banks, because she's so smooth, she's a really quick army, but she's so smooth and long stride it that she doesn't look that fast.
But believe me, she is.
Now, one thing I wanted to give some credit to is Kayla Potts of Forest Park has been pretty much guarding her kind of in that matchup zone.
She has been the one guard here and she's done a pretty good job here.
Not going to shut down, Brianna.
Banks.
But boy, Kayla Potts has done a good job defensively so far.
Well, you know, you talk about Kayla Potts doing the defensive job in the semifinals.
She took the offensive job.
She scored 20 points for this Forest Park team, might not be here.
So she's good all around.
Player Good point made on a player like Briana Banks just keep her under control And at the half left in this first quarter of the quarter, a girls high school championship for county up by 14 this who changed the shot it is IBM again changed the shot and got the rebound and got the ball to be in the band.
that's nice.
Back to the foul line to carry all of this John Doe drinking shoot, too.
And I'll tell you what I like about Briana Banks, Even though she's having a tough first half mark offensively, she's not forcing it because she's still giving up the basketball.
She could have taken it to the hole and tried to get it, but she gave it up to her coach told us before the game she is unselfish to a fault almost.
I mean, sometimes he said that's more, hey, we more valuable to the team.
If she were to take the or force a shot now and then.
But she's always looking to give it up and make a nice assist to one of her teammates.
Good news for far pass Parker's fair count and this is two for line.
Coming up on a minute left in the second quarter Eben with another rebound fair count he's not going to wait her out there you see her to the hole and with the body Briana Banks will shoot two.
She's quick with the basketball.
You know, I scouted her in the semifinals.
She can hit the three pointer, no question about it.
But, boy, she is so strong.
When she goes to the hoop, she can get a step or a half step on the defensive player geez, by her and laying it up this one up and gets the bounce.
Briana five nine average 16 points.
As we've been telling you though, probably she was a little more selfish and we mean that in a good way.
Could have averaged as many as she wanted.
24, 25, 26.
You know, she's a McDonald's all-American.
So, I mean, around the country, she's one of the best in the U.S. today.
You're seeing right here car park, trying to get something going.
The half as we winded down here a minute to go, they're hitting just one shot.
I mean, they've got to get some offensive rebounds.
I think that's what the coach should be talking the in the halftime speech.
We've got to hit the offensive glass.
Well, I would think he might want to go for one shot, but let's see what they do.
No, they'll be tiny, not slowing it down with under 30 to go.
Look at that pass.
No look three for Brianna and up and no good underneath.
She's got some hops too from the foul line up and no good.
We got a bench.
Had a couple of shots.
Nope up and we'll just keep coming at you, Mark and look who got the rebound.
You know five, five sophomore Tionda Jenkins.
I mean, she's all over the court today, runs the show from the point guard position, but she's driving in there with the bigger players.
Take a good look at these teams, what can happen in a year.
But both have a lot of players, core players coming back.
They do.
And it's going to be interesting to see if maybe Fayette County can make it four out of five years back to the Final Four.
We'll have to see what happens next year, 12, 15 point game 2813, Fayette County, Apple Forest Park with 12 seconds left in this second quarter, good play would help force Park to get something going here.
Even I hope just for the spirits.
Right.
Get a hoop right here at the end of the half and maybe see if the coach takes a timeout.
Try to set something up or just run with him.
He's just going to go with it.
Well, it's worked so far with 8 seconds left and they get down and get some plenty of time for a good shot.
They're up 16 points right now.
Andre Jenkins controlling the ball, counting it down.
She'll take it.
It's got to get one up block and a foul and that will be three.
And that is not a good idea for part, part, you know, an issue.
WATSON She's hit a couple of three pointers in front of just about the spot where she was fouled right there.
So now they've stopped the clock with 1.1 seconds to go.
She's going to chance to add to the Fayette County lead shot.
That was the last thing you want really right now.
Take your chances.
Let her shoot the three pointer first went up and good you got you're right, Mark she's got a nice touch It's easily a sophomore and she's 510 and she's going to come back for a couple more years.
She rolls the first two in.
She's going to get the third if she gets the hat trick.
This for county team in the semifinals, nine player score.
That's how deep they are.
Yes, indeed.
She gets it.
Fourth court needs something, at least a little something to feel good.
And there's the buzzer.
So we were waiting to see what the pace of this game would be.
And it started out slow, but it picked up.
Let's go down to Nikki Noto.
What's a coach?
Coach, you told me after the semis that you've only called one time out throughout outreach and play, which means your girls are taking business.
It's been a successful first half for you.
What more business do they have to take care of?
Hey, we got it.
You know, I have never won one, so, you know, we just got to come back and keep playing with that same intensity.
As far as Sparks a good team, they've got a great program, got a great coach, got great kids.
I know they're going to come back fine.
So we got to turn it up and keep it up because they're going to come charge.
Thanks, Coach Smith for us for we're well there you had a 3213 in the first half.
That's quite a basketball championship.
Don't forget, Forest Park came back in the semis.
Let's see what they do in the second half.
We're back in a moment.

Welcome back to GP's live an exclusive coverage of championship weekend here at the arena the Gwinnett Center Jill Tyree and our halftime score of course, it looks like Fayette County out in front of Forest Park by the count of 32 to 13.
And with me the principals of these two fine institutions to my extreme right, Charles Ward, and to my extreme left, Derrick Manning, We're going to start with Principal Ward.
First.
Congratulations.
It looks like you're on your way.
Thank you, Gail.
We're just excited to go into the halftime with such a lead.
It it has been an exciting year with basketball.
It Fayette County High School and we're thrilled about these girls.
Glad to be back at Hornet in the championship game.
You know, I was telling you, I said, you know, I thought Tessa Holt was the best thing you had coming out a few years ago, but that Briana Banks is something else.
She is absolutely impressive.
She is fun to watch and just a part of the total team.
And besides being the McDonald's all-American, as you know, I learned a little while ago, she was Atlanta tip offs plus player of the year.
So congratulations, Briana.
You know, it's more than just athletics for you all down in fat County academically.
What do you have?
And talk about what you guys have going on down in Fayette County right now?
Absolutely.
Fayette County High School is a total program, of course, the core of what we do here is academics.
And whether we're talking debate or we have a number of national qualifiers all ready for science fair, where we have four first place winners in the region awaiting state competition.
We're so proud of them.
That's Fayette County High School.
For two years in a row now, the state of Georgia has named us as AP Honor School based on the success rate of our advanced placement students.
So we're we're honored to have that as well.
Fine Arts, we've got it going on there.
The band, all of our bands just got superior ratings by Gimme A The chorus was just invited to go to London by the former Lord mayor of Westminster.
So it's great to be a tiger.
It's great to be a tagger and good luck down here.
Great going on.
Principal Ward from Fayette County, We move over now to my extreme left, Derrick Manning, the five outstanding principal at Forest Park.
Things not looking good for you, but you know, there is the second half, there is the second half, and we're feeling good about the second half.
We have been a second half team in the course of the season.
We've been down before and I have a great confidence that our kids are going to fight back and give us a game.
You know, Mark Harmon was talking about the fact that you guys played a national schedule, did not lose to a team at all in the state of Georgia this year.
That is correct.
And we are undefeated in the state of Georgia.
We have some outstanding young ladies.
We're a young team.
We lost Kiera with a twisted knee, you know, in the latter part of the first quarter.
So that's going to be a big loss for us.
But we have a deep team and I feel like our girls are going to come back in and give us a game.
You know, as I talked to Charles Ward and to myself, to you, it's more than just athletics at Forest Park.
What do you have going on down there?
Very well.
I believe we're one of the most consistent schools in Clayton County.
We have been in the Metro in terms of making AYP.
We are very diverse.
We've probably one of the most diverse views in playing county.
And one of the things I like about our kids, our student body, and we're proud of them.
We have great harmony.
We have about 14 different ethnic backgrounds that are actually intermingling and having education on a daily basis.
We have very few problems.
A Kids aren't moving, and I thought he could do well once.
I will say this, you've got a great alumnus in Hines Ward of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he makes he always makes a point to talk about.
For his part, he really does.
And he he has been very supportive of all the way up their program.
And we're just very thrilled to have him as one of our great alumni.
Derrick Manning, thank you.
Charles Ward, thank you.
Good luck to both of you basketball teams as we move forward in the second half.
Let's go now back to courtside and first half highlights with the nattily attired, I should say, this still clad Tunick and Mark Harmon, it's all yours.
Well, thank you very much.
Gill represented well by the teams and the principles.
What a first half we had slow, but then it got rolling.
They really did.
And Fayette County really kind of took charge there in the first quarter.
They added to it in the second quarter.
And Forest Park's really going to have to come up with some kind of different kind of strategy to get back in this basketball.
Well, I mentioned it in the semifinals and in the game this year as we see the highlights and this is what Faith County was doing going inside early Boy Ellen Ebbing, she was just unstoppable inside at six four they just sent in block shot.
She got rebound.
She did all kinds of great stuff.
And then there was the outside shooting that really put Fayette County at number 23.
There she had 3 to 3 pointers.
And Isha Watson, well, it was up and down and then inside and out.
And Forest Park tried to get some kind of rhythm, but they never could get it because of this defense.
Right.
And there's a number of they drive in number 14 right there to shoot.
She scores.
Candice Williams, she had a nice bucket there.
And of course, inside that's really been the key for Fayette County, is that that Forest Park has just had no answer for Ellen inside.
Well, let's look at the halftime numbers.
What stands out to you?
Obviously, field goals right off the top.
Take a look at the other things.
Well, you know, scoreboard that that stands out quite a bit.
But turnovers, you know, 12 turnovers that just kills you.
Every coach will look at that and just say, man, that could be 24 points right there.
Fayette County, only with the five turnover, that's a huge turnover ratio in favor of Fayette County, you know, three point field goal, three of nine for Fayette County, two of eight Forest Park.
So pretty close in there.
But look at the free throws.
Well, six more points, you know, for Fayette County on the line.
And that's because they've been aggressive in driving to the hoop and picking up the foul.
I think the most telling the stat is four for 23.
I mean, you can't win a ballgame.
You got to get back inside.
Well, let's go down to Nikki Noto sublime and see what's up tough wise for both these teams to coach down 19 first half.
What did you tell your girls in there in the locker room?
we got to stop, Joe Penetration.
Like, you know, we talked about the first.
Yes, we had to stop any group penetration or stop the second chance shots.
Did we do that?
This is what the score is going to be like.
Can you give us an injury update on Kiana?
she's done for the day.
We don't know how serious it is, but she's done for the day.
Thanks, Coach.
Well, that is tough to hear.
We're heading to the third quarter forest Park down the Fayette County, 32 to 13.
Let's see what happens in the second half.
It's attention Rodeo fans.

Mark Harmon at the half.
It is Fayette County, 32, Forest Park 13.
I did mention in the semifinals as Forest Park team scored 27 points in the fourth quarter.
Mark, They're going to have to have at least a quarter like that.
If not two, they're really going to have to come back hard.
And, you know it's just a shame because Kiana Allen, number 21, she's a six foot one senior center and that's they depended on her.
She's unfortunately been injured.
She's not coming back.
The coach told Nikki Noto.
That's really a big factor because Fayette County is so strong inside.
And unfortunately, Forest Park lost their big center to injury early in the game.
Starting in that zone, Fayette County just doesn't mind if any time comes off the clock.
No, but let me tell you one thing.
There is no quit in Forest Park.
These Lady Panthers are tough they're scrappy.
They're dedicated.
You know, you don't win 90 games in a row by giving up and they will give it their best shot here in the second half.
Yeah.
You don't come this far.
Right.
And have any quit in Forest Park to inbound just underway in his third quarter loss and stranger things happened but here is IBM again dominating both sides both defensively and offensively.
my goodness.
I mean, you never know.
I mean, the strength of Forest Park all season long has been their defense.
It looks like they're going to pick them up full court.
It's going to be a wild second half is going to be a lot of fun for fans to watch because this Forest Park team is going to throw everything, including the kitchen sink in Fayette County defensively.
Well, that's what you've got to do.
You're going to have to have some full court press.
And I'll tell you what, what's going to be fun is watching Briana Banks try to break this press.
It is because she can do it one hand, you know, one man show or one lady show.
Breanna Banks, is it 3213, just started this third quarter.
Great content looking inside and doesn't mind some clock winding down.
Thanks In case you're just joining us, number 13, former Utah boy they just don't have or spark does not have an answer for Elam even at six four she's got such soft hand she can pick up the pass like that and put it back up in the end.
It's just tough.
It is.
And there you see the shot on both ends of the court.
And they're kind of wanting to run this ball up and now not forcing it, but really going to the hole.
And that was just one of the rare mistakes Brianna Banks has made this afternoon.

There's an easy layup at Florida Park.
Gave it up to her teammate Nicky Wilson, who laid it up in the end.
Good teamwork and just play hard.
Just play hard the rest of the way.
This decision, you'll never forget mentioned it during the game.
This win streak does keep playing hard, but you can see right there their traffic.
They're playing the aggressive defense.
They're going to press them full court.
I'm sure the rest of the game.
That's going to be very interesting to watch.
There you see it with Coach Kohl trying to come up with some answers and he'll probably substitute quite a bit.
Now, Raven Win just came in the basketball game because they're going to go full court, they're going to run, they're going to get on.
They're going to play the full court press.
He's going to put a lot of players in the second half.
He's going to see the Forest Park ballclub extending their defense and just keep taking it to the hoop.
More now have a little impatience by it.
Fayette County.
Fayette County, I mean, they had a 19 point lead at the half, 19 points.
Now they've got to realize they've got to continue to play style of game and not get lulled into some kind of a sloppy or tight game.
And if you're Forest Park, that's what you want.
You want some fouls, stop the clock, go to the foul and make some hay on the scoreboard.
Right.
Score on the tires, not take it off.
Reagan wins just a sophomore.
She came in.
She's kind of a point guard.
She averages five points a game and maybe they can get a little spark from her sophomores and presidents all across both these rosters drive having a shoot to force news.
Good.
As you mentioned, it averaged five points a game.
This is a balanced Forest Park team to really Ashley Cole you know they're leading scorer and she averages 14 points a game nobody else in double figures but a lot of them with seven or eight points.
Here comes the full court press corps pressure in the turnover area and an opportunity to be not to be completed.
And here comes four kind of day that you run with the ball up.
No good wind on Forest Park.
And as you mentioned, Mark, I've seen these high school games, but it gets like this up and down track.
They just enjoy right back and forth.
We will go in this pace.
We'll pick up.
All right.
Watch Brianna Banks go coast to coast right there.
She didn't make it.
She didn't finish the shot.
The boy wants to be with the basketball team and all the time looking to see where she can pass it.
You can see your eyes going everywhere.
This is what you're talking about.
You saw that's on the I was just looking at the hoop.
Why not?
And I like the fact that she's left handed because most players are right handed.
She's left handed.
She can kind of go where other places don't expect her to go.
You betcha.
That you think at UConn she could play some point guard.
I don't disagree with you.
And because she's so quick and fast and nimble, you don't realize she's five nine and maybe still a little girl.
But even at five nine, it's a pretty big point guard for college basketball.
Absolutely.
And she can handle it so well.
She can shoot from the outside.
And I'm just impressed with her passing ability and the way that she passes it in will give up the barbarian.
So Fear County not satisfied with some backcourt pressure.
They'll use that zone and then drop back into that two three zone pass park.
No problems bringing it over midcourt.
And there's the block by IBM and I think she's got at least five or six and she averages four.
She's got that.
At least she's got a bundle of rebounds.
She's got a bundle of block shots.
And when they got inside to her, she's hit the hoop.
So she's had an outstanding game today for Fayette County Forest Park looking inside, gets it outside the long three off the rim and try to get those second shots which they didn't get in the first half Forest Park will retain possession Forest Park still scrap and still battling still playing hard You got to love that threes.
Nice to see a couple of those go Sheila Potts just in front of the line shot up putting it up.
You know it's great experience for all these freshmen and sophomores that are on the court because they've got a good chance of coming back the next couple of years.
Just imagine a couple of these freshmen, we'll get to know each other.
They're playing against each other in the state finals.
We'll know each other for the next three years, right?
Just about halfway through this third quarter of the Quality Girls basketball championship.
Much more action on GPB coming up this weekend, tonight and tomorrow for making, you know, Keanu Jenkins right there at number 11.
She's just a sophomore.
She's one of the young players we're talking about.
She's just five, five, so scrappy.
She runs the floor.
She's, you know, just your typical point guard, kind of a coach on the court and just a sophomore, which gives a lot of credit her way.
You know, Jenkins will shoot till she's just a sophomore.
You mentioned it.
You know, we want to remind everybody that these games are also being streamed live on the Internet at GPB dot org.
There's also a big time long session going.
We've got a couple of guys blogging, taking your comments, taking your ideas about the games all day long today and all day long tomorrow.
So if you have an interest in that, watching an online commenting and blogging, you want to go to GPB dot org and blog away, check it out and know good And there's Nikki Wilson again Boy she is always where the basketball is He's got a good game going to the hoop and not a bad idea.
Raven will go and shoot two high, you know, quit.
As we mentioned, this team has lost Jeremy, the same player inside getting out, rebounded, but still going to the hoop.
Yeah, And I mean, that takes a big shot to the solar plexus when you lose your star center.
I mean, Kiana Allen was six foot one.
She was the one that was going to be battling Elam even inside, blocking out, you know, blocking shots bad and scoring inside.
You know, of course, Spark really after she her injury hasn't really scored many hoops inside today.
And that was just unfortunate.
Well, they could be taking it to the hoop because IBM is getting a little rest on the bench.
We shall see.
Although she could probably block a shot from there at six for second one up, the second one just off the rim.
They kind of still attacking and looking for Spark all over.
And there you go again.
You know, when I talked to a coach, Stephen Cole, he said our best offense is our defense.
And he said we get so many points off the defensive end of the basketball and that's what we're seeing here.
Maybe a little more patience there, Johnny, with the ball.
Everyone all over, according to the jump ball possession, it will be Forest Park tomorrow.
It's over.
So it's going to go up and down all over the place, pressing full court for both squads.
3618 doubled up in this quarter a girls high school basketball championship.
But it is fun to watch.
We've got more action right after this.
Come on.
Gp-B is made possible in part by supporters of the Georgia High School Association, including the following.
This stage is nowhere near Broadway, and none of these actors will be accepting an Oscar anytime soon.
Still, they are rehearsing for something important while they learn their lines.
They're also learning teamwork, discipline, self-confidence that everyone has a part to play, skills that will make them stars long after the curtain falls.
The National Federation of State High School Associations reminds you that when kids take part in high school activities, they get set for life first.
Smile and welcome back.
Let's show you some of the action Mark coming up later this evening.
It's for a boys Miller Grove in Rockdale County.
Then that's just across the board.
That's going to be a great matchup as Miller Grove goes for three straight for a championship game.
We'll have four.
Yeah, we get to do the five girls just start crossing teach and you'll see one of the best high school players in the country.
She's always up.
She is a gem Diamond DeShields is outstanding, can shoot score, drive, play defense.
She's a little bit of everything and batten down the hatches Look out Norcross against Milton in the boys five.
That's the final game on our docket today.
And that is going to be a Jim dandy as Milton goes for back to back championship as well.
Norcross, a very scrappy, athletic, talented team.
And Milton just loaded.
I can't wait to watch that.
And here we see three out of banks trying to break the pressure, two against one.
And that's how I turn it over to you.
The foul will go against again.
We're talking about Forest Park coming after Fayette County, despite the 18 point lead they're going after him, their full court pressing.
And right there they come up with the turnover.
Let's see if they can capitalize with 351 left in this third quarter.
Looking for the three not to be and it will be big Johnny's ball don't have to shoot the threes, get a good two inside, get a little momentum going.
Absolutely.
I mean, there's no there's still plenty of time that they can get something going but they need to make baskets big county running on the press and they will retain possession.
it's gonna you're watching a great game and you can purchase a DVD of this game in any of the USA basketball championships.
For further details go to g h s a dot TD Park Park running with the ball.
They're having some opportunities cut into this lead.
They are.
They've made a lot of steals, come up with a lot of aggressive play.
They just haven't been able to make any baskets and it's I'm sure it's frustrating for Forest Park because they're playing so hard right now and they're just not being able to get it to go through the hoop.
Forest Park.
It gets that Fed County zone almost to their pass but control up and no foul called to fetch.
That is incredibly aggressive on defense still bodies are flying everywhere.
You know this means so much to both of these programs.
I mean, you know, this is the state championship we're talking about young girls between 14 and 18 years of age.
I mean, this is the big stage.
This is for the state championship.
This is memories that they'll remember the rest of their lives and they're playing their hearts out.
You're right, Mark.
I heard the good block from here.
Forest Park retains possession.
Tough to dribble against his own.
Wow.
Boy, you can see that.
That's a great stroke.
Ashley Cole, she's the one who can pick it up.
Ashley Cole.
She's averaging 14.
She is their leading scorer.
Should she be able to get hot right?
They might be able to put a little scared the bat down it.
Right now they've cut it to 15 points a doable margins into the game and you talked about it it's a tale of two teams.
One team has been here three of the last four years trying to win their first title.
And the other team, the Forest Park team, hasn't been here since 1970.
Fayette County coach John Strickland was telling me yesterday just how badly, how much he wants to win a state championship.
And he's got his girls prepared to play slowing things down for county, looking inside if they have anything.
And there's another turnover, Forest Park trying to take up and in and all of a sudden with Ashley Cole scoring again it's a 13 point game.
Ashley Cole has five quick points and it's a 13 point game.
I'm sure Forest Park is thinking if we can get it down to ten heading into that final quarter, we've got a chance to win this down.
Here we go.
Fasten your seatbelts.
This is a ballgame.
Gonna to take a little too much of what Kent County was giving them.
They slowed down a little bit, Kind of looking inside.
And that's a big hoop right there by Candace Williams, just a freshman.
They go to the young leader on the team, a freshman, and boy, that scores a little.
The momentum at Forest Park had built up high scoring great moves.
And Kayla Potts, again, a freshman going against the freshman back and forth.
And she's five eight.
He's averaging eight points a ball game and she's going to be a good one.
Yeah, no left hander.
No good.
And there's a rebound by Forest Park and I think it'll go that way with the foul.
Breanna bench took the shot no good and she's having a tough time offensively but really leading the show but this far far too far from out of this game.
Absolutely There's a minute 39 to go.
It's a 13 point lead for Fayette County, but a Forest Park, like I said, if they can get it down to ten points or so going into that fourth quarter, who knows what's going to happen?
Park Park, looking inside today with a good aggressive defense and let's see if someone steps in like they did it so far.
Park in this last minute and 30 of this third quarter trying to make something happen.
The defensive pressure for the Forest Park as applied has paid off a little bit.
Now there's a new play there.
So I find Ellen and that get the ball inbounds.
But here again, that pressure, the pressure, the pressure on it, you can see the field goals and Smith County has cooled down, shooting 33% in that fourth quarter of third quarter.
Me, you know, you just wonder you had Forest Park, some of the shots that they missed.
They had a lot of second shot opportunities, some layup opportunities.
You know they just had some bad luck there with the ball going in.
It would be so much closer.
Sidney Bivins in for Forest Park is a junior with a minute to go.
For his part, you can see slowing down, trying to get a good shot.
Not fortunate that they get a good shot.
If they get a three pointer, they cut it.
You can get three pointer just off the rim.
That's the player that they wanted shooting it to.
Ashley Cole, she's their leading scorer.
She's their best shooter.
You see her at the bottom of your screen calling for that ball, trying to spot up.
that's what great players want.
They want the basketball is time running down and that's what Ashley Cole is signifying to her teammates.
Give it to me.
I think dad wants her to have the ball, too.
Yeah.
So it's 40 to go in this third quarter.
Fred Carter remains in that zone.
She cold is waiting for that ball and there's a foul goes into that.
And finally we're in the bonus.
In the bonus and that could be a factor.
Two free throws shooting how often in state championships all boil down to the free throw line drive and win.
The one will go to the line lines in basketball.
As you mentioned before, Steve, that, you know, free throw shooting, you know, time runs off the clock.
This is a good way to make up a deficit.
If you're the coach, you can go into the fourth quarter saying, look, we're down 12, we're down 30.
That's a couple of turnovers and a couple of hoops win in this thing.
Right now, they they're leading in the third quarter.
They cut it to 11 bars, pop with that full court press.
They've been doing a great job at this press.
Someone wide open underneath, but not to be.
Here comes Forest Park and there's the big one.
That's the block.
Papa Park and Ashley Cole from way downtown.
Good boy.
They hit a three.
If they hit a three here, the crowd will go crazy and almost three back.
Cindy Devins has a good three point shooter, two for the park with another throw and some time to get off a shot if they can get it up.
Court 100 and conference 2.8 to get off the shot.
3827 What a fucking At halftime they've got a 19 point lead down to 11 points in the third quarter up.
not a bad look, not a bad place yet after back and forth you got basketball to the player that you wanted to get it to.
You wanted Ashley Cole to take that last shot.
She didn't make it, but she's the one you want to take it.
Well, after being down by 19, we've got a ballgame after three 3827.
Stay with us for fourth quarter of the girls for a high school basketball championship coming right up.
For the next generation of telescopes, a new quest begins.
Can we see the invisible go back further in time?
Reveal mysterious forces shaping the cosmos.

Do it again like a good neighbor.
Step over there in my office.

All right, Mark.
Good coach.
What Forest Park have to do so much as the third quarter?
I think that's what they want to do.
They want to put pressure, pressure, pressure on Face County.
They've got a 19 point lead down to an 11 point lead in the third quarter.
They get the basketball to start in the fourth quarter.
They could hit it two or three.
Right now, they'd be under ten points and ready to go.
We'll just see what happens.
But look for Ash to pull down the big fourth quarter.
What a three pointer, right?
No good.
As Mark said, get a three pointer, a two and so forth.
Fourth quarter, a much better job rebound.
Absolutely.
I think at halftime with so much wind was taken out of their sales when Keanu Allen went down.
I think at halftime coach Stephen Paul was able to get the girls back and ready to go and a better game plan and they were able to get that in the third quarter.
Well, there you see it, the turnovers and that's what's made this a ball game play a county with a lot there you saw another one in Clark with only two and that makes a huge difference.
You remember at halftime it was almost flip flop.
And so you can see where that move forward.
Pressure by Forest Park has really paid off big time for Coach Stephen Paul and the Lady Panthers because they've been able to come into this Marion County lead.
And here we go again to the foul line.
They go again.
Ashley Cole will be shooting.
When you do that, they close contact.
I mean, you're stopping the clock.
There's still time, plenty of time left for the state to get it done so many times.
State championships all boil down to the free throw line.
Great call right there.
The great call is on the line.
Again, another turnover because, of course, pass pressure, pressure, pressure from the corner for the three up and no good.
You know they haven't been fortunate in sinking one of those three points.
Boy, if they can get off for this a little while, they can make this a really interesting basketball game.
This Forest Park team is all over the court.
Rihanna Banks trying to bring it up against two.
And there you see coach saying keep up the pressure.
Well, this is where Breanna Banks should take over because she's the star.
She's the senior leader on this team.
There's a reach inside there.
But Breanna Banks, she needs to set the tone now in the fourth quarter for her team.
She's the leader.
She's the senior.
She's the one that needs to take charge and say, hey, and there's the coach.
No one in this arena sweating more than him for the last three out of four years, this man right here has been to the finals and is looking for his first championship.
And he does.
That's an 11 point lead right now for Fayette County Forest Park.
Again, getting the basketball face, County picking them up here in a little bit of a full court pressure situation since they said that that's what they will do.
Drop back in that two three still mark, not a rush to give up a shot.
They've hit a lot of tape taking a lot of three pointers and they've been closing a lot of three pointers.
And just like there's a lid on that basket, that county slowing things down.
Brianna Walton, the host banks there you see when the senior leaders, you know what stars do at fourth quarter time.
That's what she's going to have to do right now.
And that one changed the momentum a little bit.
It certainly didn't there.
There's a turnover by Forest Park.
And you're right, you made a good call that this is where a player like Banks and someone of her caliber just takes off.
Still, Forest Park by no means out of this.
Now, Ashley Cole's going to the bench to get a little bit of a breather, her dad giving there maybe a minute over there to get her breath back and then she's going to be in for the last round of the table county trying to break this pressure, referee counting.
So they have to get it over and there's a turnover and they're smart pass balls.
You know, number four, Kayla Potts has played very well defensively.
She's just a freshman, but boy, she likes to be in the right spot at the right time.
On the defensive side of the basketball, another three by park and their ball movement to contain the ball and retain the ball.
22nd timeout, I think to saying you know what, we don't have to take threes.
Let's just get a good shot and go to this fella.
You know, if they can get a couple of hoops, they get a couple of fouls, they make this a little bit closer.
If they can alleviate the pressure again on say, County, Main County is the one that had the big lead trying to hang on to the big lead.
And boy, if you get that momentum going in your way, the Forest Park fans have been going crazy trying to root their team on in the best way that they can and they can just put a little extra pressure on Fayette County.
They have a better chance to win what happens at all levels of college pros, high school.
If you cut that lead under ten, that team that's had a comfortable lead, the entire game starts maybe making some mistakes.
They weren't making early in the game.
We're only three points away from that being a ten point game right there.
6 minutes and 5 seconds left in this game and let's see what happens.
There's a terrible bar and bar that hurts as well.
It really hurts because right now you have just many possessions with 6 minutes to go.
How many possessions are you going to have?
You need?
You know, you got 13 point deficit right now, so you need seven or so.
Anyway, there's another turnover, there's a layup, and that's how you need to do it.
Nicely done.
Ashley Cole gets a musical.
that would have been an unbelievable three five on Briana Banks Acrobatic footwork that but I think that's what Fed County has to do right now it's gets the basketball to Briana Banks let her handle it right now there you saw the turnover the easy hoop and that's the story of the second half.
You know Fayette County at the free throw line right now, every point they add on, you know, that's to their favor as the clock runs down so they can hit a few if they can continue to hit from the free throw line.
That helps a lot of banks, as you saw ten points with the two from the line.
And here comes Clark Park pushing ball on both ends pull, no good offensive rebounding, much better for Park Park often good and the foul and Ashley Cole will try to complete a three pointer That's the way to do it.
You get the three point play that way Take it to the hoop, draw the foul.
Maybe the shot goes in as it did that time.
Ashley Cole is there, leading scorer.
She's going to be seeing the basketball a lot in the last five and a half minutes of this game.
And there you see the three pointer the bucket and one and we talked about it yet that lead under ten points and you're a vicious you are because Fayette County might be thinking they're too close.
Well a lot of these kids lives in these final three four.
I'm seeing some crazy things happen, some bad memories.
You got out of it.
You've got a nine point ballgame, 530 left in this quarter.
Girls high school championship game.
You couldn't ask for any more.
There's a wide open layup and no draw.
And all of a sudden things are going forward for us.
We're in a foul Boy.
That's one thing that Coach John Strickland does not want to do is have fouls of that kind because they're in the bonus.
So you make a foul down there, their basket.
You're going to come back down here with the clock stopped and they got to put Nick Wilson in the free throw line with the one and one amazing, tremendous comeback.
We were saying it the whole time for the third quarter.
There is no quit.
Nick Wilson, 5.4.
Look at the boards.
She has been all over the basketball court where the ball is.
That's where Nicki Wilson is.
And she just hit a big free throw to cut this lead to eight in terms of the television.
So back in the game for Fayette County, Lisa Watson, second of two, plenty of time left in this game due to a motion, but it goes in.
It is 4130 47. game for park with the great pressure.
Hold on to your hats and let's see what happens.
Still attacking the basket and Park Park will retain the ball and get fouled.
You know, Fayette County has had trouble scoring in the second half.
They had 32 points in the half.
They only scored nine points in the second half.
Right now, folks, this was a 32 to 13 game at halftime.
Steph Curry was in control and the coach is saying, please, not again.
Dan Strickland just took his coat off, his jacket off.
He's getting down.
He's getting ready for this last minutes of his basketball game and a date with Destiny for one of these two teams.
Top tough shots going to be so important coming down the stretch with Raven Win, the sophomore missing, the first 2 to 7 points, five rebounds, get all around game.
I really look for said count and get the basketball into the hands of number 13 Breanna Banks and Carter.
Ride the horse have ridden all day all year six point game There she goes pulling up that little floater make one the first half but short the second half in the fourth quarter.
And there's another turnover Nicki Wilson again with the with the steal she's only seeing the hoop but no good rebound control here and here comes the counter easy her ball and no good offensive foul on a three pointer and all that changes so momentum a man on man did that need that Laura Kennedy coming off the bench and getting the big big hoop for the fan county tigers.
Lorna Kennedy is a senator she's six she's only a junior, averages three points a game, but none of the hoops this season I'm willing to bet are any bigger than that.
Now that she that's a momentum shifter right there.
When they really needed it they got one from her trying to complete that three point play.
You're still anybody's ball game with a little more breathing room for Fayette County, but not much.
Once again, against that extended county zone defense Forest Park has little a 19 point lead going down to just nine They had county's defense They're really keeping their eyes on number 12 Ashley Cole.
They know that she's their leading scorer, that she's their best shooter.
So they almost have two people around her at all times sliding hard and a foul.
So she's finding the creatures in that Fayette County zone.
So for her, Mickey will like her game.
She's just really scrappy.
She's very aggressive.
She's always in the right spot at the right time.
In the old days, they call it a nose for the basketball.
She's got it.
Well, she's got at least 15 rebounds now.
Been all over the court on the press and been attacking the basket all night.
It's the first.
Doesn't go and Horace Park still with 430 left Mark still missing some key free throws.
Boy you wonder if they to hit a few of their three pointers and they hit a few of the layups, then a few of the free throws.
But this game would be like that.
Not good.
I'll tell you one on the ride home.
Both these teams are going to be exhausted with another turnover, first half with a jump ball and.
Fans got a small arrow pointing in their direction and they'll they'll reload and try this again.
I'll tell you one thing, Forest Park doesn't have to work on their full court press.
They really are aggressive.
There's another steal, just as you said, of that.
Amazing.
On the turnovers Hart Park to the hoop and a foul and to the foul line on need watch and he'll go You know Allan maybe it was call for that foul She hasn't made many fouls she's blocked so many and so cleanly almost after the Ravens win the sophomore to the foul line.
This is one of the best full court press I've seen in high school basketball.
It really is very interesting cause Park does everything at whoever the basketball coach, Stephen Cole, has him very well schooled.
And like he told us earlier, it's a turnover, 17 to 4, 17 to 4.
But they get so many of their points off their defense, defense, their best offense.
And it is down to a six point game.
Again, I'll look for a rebound and it will be false pass ball and let's see if we're going to the foul line and we are, as Clark County is ranked the second best team in this state.
They're not going against a team that hasn't seen full court pressures or pressure of that matter and they are going to do as good a job as you will see.
They're doing a great job defensively.
Forest Park is Fayette County.
Obviously, they're a very savvy team, but they're going to have to get it together and break this crest.
Usually when you break passes, you get easy baskets on the other side.
So far, Fayette County has not gotten any of those easy.
When the sophomore class what is good, it is a five point game.
What a tale of two halves.
This has been Fayette County just dominating, dominating the first half, and then Forest Park coming back with their defense to dominate the second to possession game and there almost any is another turnover and here comes Forest Park goal no good the route for the cubbyhole Fayette County has the numbers Let's see what they did.
Well there's the one two punch of Fayette County at Brandon State pass again a great bounce pass to Ellen medium too despite the fact the 2640 runs the court very well.
She caught the ball then was fouled and she'll go to the free throw line.
The up to the line will shoot too.
You're right she's six for and got up and down quickly eight points That's it hit a free throw 13 big rebounds and at least five or six blocks a clutch free throw.
She has a nice touch, nice rotation on that free throw.
And that's a big, big point right now with 349 to go in this game.
The second one is not converted and here comes Forest Park.
With all the confidence in the world taking it to the hoop, looking to the foul and no call that time big county still running with the ball Jenna banks to the hoop no good she is caught in the corner in the double team a timeout taken by Brian Fantana.
Wow well this has turned out to be a fantastic opener for the GHC and deep broadcast of the games.
First half of Mascagni's second half off.
For his part, right now it's a five point game with 329 lots of time to go and who knows what's going to happen.
Well, we've told you the tale of two teams.
One has been here many times, Fantasia, the last four years.
One hasn't been here 40 years.
And we are watching a great basketball game, by the way.
You're watching a great game.
And you can purchase a DVD of these games at any of the teenage state basketball championships.
For further details, go to GHC Dot TV with.
I wouldn't mind watching this one again.
You know, if I'm Fayette County, I'm trying to go inside the big number, 33 Alameda.
And right now run a play and get it into her forest Park with the rebound, run up, pull it out, Mark, and take some control.
Well, that wouldn't be a bad plan either.
But they're running.
They're gunning for Park, trying to get to the hoop over the backboard.
Yes.
You got.
How about that one?
A big shot by a freshman, Kayla Cox.
It's a three point game.
It's a foul point.
There was one play off.
I knew they'd go into Elam eventually.
You know, it's the next time down the court.
254 4742 second half points for us.
Park has dominated almost doubling up off and no good went to the line She won't go.
So that's exactly what's happening.
There's a lot of action.
Let's go courtside.
So, Nikki, No, Nikki, it is worth mentioning, guys at that time out, the Coach Strickland took that is the first time out that he has had this entire tournament.
And in that huddle, he was telling the girls, you have to play at the pace of the ball.
And right now you've seen that momentum shift.
And if the fans are any indication of how this game is going to turn out, the Panthers, they're going wild.
They're hoping to come back and win this one.
They are having one more free throw.
Momentum has certainly shifted Forest Park's way.
It's a matter of time.
Philip, can he kind of get things going back in their direction?
Who would have thought I could say in the fourth quarter to one possession game?
nicely done by Briana Banks.
It takes it the distance stay at county has star and when you have a star you get that basketball into her hands.
A number 13 is a star.
That's why she's a McDonald's all-American.
That's why she's going to UConn.
That's why she's one of the best players in the state of Georgia.
She has had a quiet game.
When it's all said and done, she'll be very close to her averages.
She doesn't force Margaret.
You were absolutely right when this Fayette County team needs a hoop.
She has gotten it this afternoon.
Well, at any level of play, you know, when you have a star player, you expect them to stand up at crunch time.
When we're in crunch time, all fourth quarter has been a crunch time.
And Briana Banks with a big hoop there taken and coast to coast break then the oppressive force park and getting that big hoop right there is just huge.
I wonder if we can hear anything at all.
What's what's your coach said?
You know what I think give it to Brian is a good idea.
I think that's a great idea.
That's been a great idea for three or four years.
They again, it's Briana with 12 points, four rebounds, averages 16 points.
Now, no pressure on the basketball right now.
Fayette County is going to let Forest Park get it in.
Looks like they might be set up and maybe some kind of a trapping type zone.
Well, they'll trap midcourt this time.
And that was caused to be over in that Pass Park with plenty of time.
Doesn't need to rise, pulls to the hoop and it is blocked.
Troy Elam even with another huge lead block inside calls from way outside the three it's no good Rebound up and no good and Fayette County with control Boy Laura Kennedy has come off the bench, number 22 for Fayette County and has done a nice job getting some rebounds inside Fayette County may just want to pull out, but they're still attacking.
2 minutes to go.
Fourth quarter court game.
Brianna, makes him no good and he's going to rebound.
Bucs fourth mark here.
They come in with another one.
She's getting close to 20 and a foul and the clock starts minute 40 55. game.
This is what we thought about in our pre game show.
I told you I said I think this might be the most competitive game of the day and it didn't look like way in the first half.
It certainly has looked that way in the second half.
As Mark mentioned, both these teams on long winning and you know, you don't win 18 in a row, you don't win 19 and roll with having comebacks like this without having the confidence to know that you can pull this kind of comeback on both these teams of a composite over the course of the year.
And they both and very confident teams.
And you can see that out there if he wins or she for second missed the first these foul shots so big 146 left in the party girls high school championship ball game.
What a way to start off the evening this the second and out hurts another big rebound by Evian and Kyrie hasn't been able to break that pressure and still can and what a play and way up by the way I can't say enough about Nikki Wilson because she is just everywhere.
She's just so savvy.
She knew right then that she was going out of bounds.
She threw it off the Fayette County player to get the ball back, Nikki Wilson to look so quick.
But she's still travel at the top to pick you up six feet tall.
Senior.
She'll play at the next level.
92 seconds to go.
One of these teams is going to be our first state champion of 2011 and basketball I don't know which team it's going to be, but it's going to be well earned because both these teams have played very, very hard for Johnny, not decided to take it out.
But there it is.
Briana Banks takes it to the hoop Boy.
She's taken a beating.
She's driven to the hoop three or four times down the fourth quarter, and she's landed on the court each time.
But the good thing about that for the Fayette County fans is that she goes to the free throw line and she's a pretty good free throw shooter as well.
At this point.
If you're fast park, you've got to hit a foul or miss or go for the steal.
You have no choice.
You're down to the nitty gritty time, as we like to say with under 130 left, the drama just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
I mean, whether it's a free throw, a missed free throw, a maid jumper, a missed jumper this is what high school athletics is all about.
I mean, competitive games, no give up by either team to play the full 32 minutes and you see who's the best second what up in second one.
Good.
So we've got a six point game.
No giving up on either side Forest Park with under 125 to Go looking for that shot against this Fayette County team.
There she is again.
She has not only gone so many shots, she's altered so many shots.
She's rebounded so well today.
Ella Medium has just played a fantastic basketball game inside her.
Fayette County WBBM has at least seven or eight blocks.
Fayette County now in control of this game.
Still with some time on it.
Let's see if they pull it out or attack.
And I think they're going to go into what is a little bit of a four Corners here.
Mark.
Well, you know, the clock is in their friend right now, big time person.
You're going to have to foul.
Let's see the car park just under a minute to go trying to win their first state high school championship in the last four years.
Three of those years, they sit in the finals and have not away with the championship.
Could today be that day?
I mean, for long years he's been at the school for six years.
You know, when I talked to him yesterday, he so excited about his girls winning in the semifinal match.
And I told him that they had practiced this morning at 630, they all arrived.
They practice about 715.
They had a walk through.
It's been their history all season long, Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
They had that early morning practice and it didn't matter if they were playing for a state championship today or not.
They were going to keep their routine and be there early this morning.
So these girls have been up since 630 at school and thinking basketball all day long.
Briana Banks the first two second one up and good.
So now it is hustle time.
Now you've got to get up and get a shot quick.
Start looking for the three calls from way outside that it will be short and Fayette County can almost feel that championship now.
Yeah, but a three possession game right now for Fayette County and clock stops.
Go, go, go on.
Maybe add to their lead.
Breanna Banks is walking right in front of me and she looks all tuckered out.
She's pooped.
She's been all over the court for the entire game while this Fayette County team you said was at practice at 630, right.
Well, they got there 630.
Coach wanted to make a point of that.
We didn't practice at 630.
They arrived at 630, about 750.
Yeah.
That is going to be one team that has no problem getting to sleep tonight.
No.
And that's tape Brentford 3535 right there.
A big, big shot.
She's going to play at Clayton State next year, even with almost a triple double couple more blocks and she would have it.
What a night she has had.
And taking her talents to the University of South Carolina, as we had mentioned, second up, second, no good and fast park.
What a comeback.
Can't say enough about those kids either.
No Fours Park has really showed what they are made of.
They play very, very hard in the second half and it will be a turnover.
And after all these years, Coach Strickland didn't even have to loosen the tie, although he took off the jacket.
I think he will go to the line again was 24 seconds left.
It was amusing to me because he talked about winning the two small cups with two runner up championship trophies, which is still quite an honor to get your team to a Final Four to a championship game and come up a little short.
There's no disregard in that.
But if he can hang on here for 24.8 more seconds, he's going to get the big prize and he's going to be a very, very happy head coach.
What a way to start the high school championship basketball weekend off with a tremendous game.
And for basketball girls, as we mentioned, it's on all night and all tomorrow.
So we hope you join us.
And remember, it's also being streamed online.
So if you want to go to GPB dot org, you can watch the games.
You can also blog.
We've got a couple of guys blogging all through as well.
Well, it's a countdown now for Park, looking at not finding the shot and still hustling it all.
The Court So is this park with Ricky Wilson?
No.
Give up in her Now it's back up to a ten point lead now for Fayette County Forest Park.
I mean, they ran players in and out.
They press the entire second half.
They've got to be just exhausted.
But there's no give up.
There's no quit in the Lady Panthers and Coach Strickland going to give some of his girls, some of the younger players, a taste of what it's like to be in a final championship game.
You know, I think back to when I played high school basketball and I had the chance just to play 9 seconds in the state championship game.
What a memory that would be.
And he's got another string of players ready to come in there and get that moment of glory.
Well, hats off to this young lady, Nikki Wilson.
What a game she played and take about young ladies.
Fayette County.
Three of the last four years has been in the semi finals and this might be championship day.
Well deserved.
Well-played, Brianna Banks and Elam even just a12 punch that was just very, very good today.
Another seal by Forest Park trying to get one last shot for the final score.
But the seconds are ticking away at a far to hold us up.
4.8 seconds to go in the quarter.
Girls high school championships were well, Fayette County is going to win their first state championship and it's very well-deserved.
John Strickland hugging his assistant coaches over there on the sideline.
He's happy all the Fayette County girls on the sideline have their arms embraced and intertwined, and they're just very excited about this championship in Fayetteville, Georgia.
They'll be a big, big party in town tonight, I'm sure.
Second fashion up and good.
And it is only a matter of touching the ball.
And there it is as the clock ticks down.
Finally, this Fayette County team, after trying for so many years, has won the first state high school basketball championship as they beat Forest Park 55 to 45.
And is there any better moment than right there, the girls jumping around.
They are state champs, the first state of 2011. well, we'll be back with the trophy presentation.
And this time Fayette County is getting the big cup after winning the girls quarter championship 5545.
The awards are coming up next.

Let's go now to the trophy presentation and the pair here at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, Dave Withrow.
All right, before we go to the trophy presentation, the runner up trophies now being presented to Forest Park.
I'm the score Atlanta's We should the runners up the Forest Park Lady Panthers now for the state championship presentation.
I'd like to turn it over to Georgia Public Broadcasting's Mark Harmon at the very bottom of the battle motif today, especially the Fayette County team who has won the state championship in Class four.
To make that presentation, we had the executive director of the HSA, Dr.
Elsewhere, and we do want to add our regulations to every I think I'd like to bring on now our friends from State Farm Insurance to make the presentation.
Thank you.
Doctor squared, on behalf of State Farm agents and associates all throughout Georgia, we want to congratulate you all as the region for girls basketball state champions for 2011.
Congratulations.
Go home.
All right.
The trophy now.
Hey.
All right.
It's a great moment for us.
Fayette County Community, Fayette County, you know, we do have two small cups and now we got the big cup.
I told them before they came down here, I say, listen, you don't get a small cup of bacon.
And they said, Coach, we want to be a coach.
So we got it.
We're bringing it back home, baby.
Stay tuned.
And your fans are fired up.
Your team is fired up.
It's just going to be a great time to play it tonight.
it's going to be a great time.
We appreciate the effort of these young ladies and their parents for getting them in the gym and doing everything they do.
So it's not all about me.
It's a lot about them.
So we appreciate all what they do know.
We got to give a lot of credit to the competition.
Forest Park.
They were very scrappy, very tenacious.
They battled all the way.
Yes, there was a Final Four a team last year.
And then, of course, they in the finals this year, we were up 19 at half.
And I said, hey, they're going to come fighting.
And I knew they would.
And they did.
And it's a great game.
That's great.
Competitors got a great program.
We got a great coach and coach Cole, you got to play.
So, you know, we appreciate it.
We don't take nothing for granted and we fight hard for the last.
We've been here three times out of last four years and finally we got it.
Hard work does off.
Coach.
Your girls are cheering.
They got the trophy real high.
Congratulations to you and your basketball team in a fabulous four state title.
Thank you.
All right.
Now let's send it back over to Gil Tyree.
All right.
Mark Harmon, thank you.
I'm with Score Atlanta's Bob Helton and, of course, my comrade in all the time at GPB Sports Central for Jon Nelson.
Gentlemen, what a basketball game.
Congratulations.
Definitely go out to Fayette County.
Bob, your thoughts?
Well, of course, everybody is saying this the third time is the charm they took.
They had a big win on Wednesday.
But Fayette County here to get a lot of credit for its progress.
You get a lot of credit for the way they came back.
They were down 13 against the number one team in the state on Wednesday.
They came back 19 was just too big a hole to come back for.
And I know John Nelson.
There's somebody in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts is an alumnus of Fan County, Tessa Hope.
She's congratulating this team right now.
Well, think about what this group of seniors is going to be doing next year when it comes to where they're going.
You're talking about in you're talking about NCAA, you're talking about University of Connecticut.
This is a high profile bunch of five seniors for Fayette County and talk about the impact that they've had.
And also, once again, you've got to earn it on these days.
Four championships.
Is Bob out and set up 19 up 11, then you're up seven and it turns into fight to the end is the championship games always are so a lot of credit goes to both squads today and John Stricklin and the stars came out you talk about Faxon and also they followed suit and you definitely write about that, John.
Let's look ahead to our matchup coming up.
And Bob Houghton, how do you see this basketball game?
Well, looking ahead, indeed, because you're going to see Miller drop 31 in one.
Everybody keeps talking about Milton.
But the only team to give him a loss this year was Miller Grove.
And I think this Rockdale County team can give them a run for their money.
They only won by two points, but they were ahead by 1520 points for most of the game the other night.
Their two point score at the end is not indicative of how much Rockdale County dominated Miller Grove as a tough border.
But Rockdale plays a type of game that'll make it interesting.
And I'll move over to John Nelson.
Can Rockdale County beat Sleepy David tonight against and they can always beat David Mike comes the goal and that's what this time of year is all about A lot of people thought Rochdale's win in the semifinals was an upset and I wouldn't use air quotes but to me, not necessarily an upset.
If your team's playing well at this time of year, you're going to want a peak at this particular time of year.
That's what Rockdale County seems to be doing.
Miller Grove, if you haven't seen them this year, Tony Parker Front and center, one of the great talents here in Georgia, high school athletics.
And you're going to get to see him here tonight.
Bob, how good is Tony Parker?
Tony Parker is tall and he's wide.
He can go underneath and put the ball up or he can go out and shoot the three.
It's a rare combination to be that tall and that well put together.
And he's been starting and playing in championship games since his freshman year.
And I make one other comment and that's no coach will ever admit they want to lose a game.
But I guarantee you losing in the regional championship charm White got their attention for them and made it easier for him.
