He's coming and it's a slam to pull out from three and watch this guy go drive and backs it.
It gets it.
Good afternoon from the arena at Gwinnett Center.
It is a battle of Region six, the number one team out of Region six, the Miller Grove Wolverines coming in at 24 and four against the Southwest, the Campbell Lady Panthers at 21 and 11.
Good afternoon.
I am Jon Nelson alongside the coach, Sean Gould, and he will be with us for the entire weekend to let you know about what's going on with the best in girls basketball.
Let's find out how both of these teams got here.
And we'll start off with Miller Grove.
Miller Grove has worked their way through it.
First round, a 28 point win over Chapel Hill, beating 10th Rank Forsyth Central by seven in the round to Rome in the quarterfinals.
Al Kobe in the semifinals.
Next up, Southwest to camp.
How did they get here?
Chasing after their fourth title in five years, Beating Cal, beating Creek View, beating Chamblee by three, and then in the semifinals last night, knocking off Jonesboro.
Now, once again, it is time to catch up with the coach.
And let's talk about what this means, the center of attention over the next two days.
Well, this is the final four for Georgia high school basketball.
This is the Mecca of Georgia basketball.
This weekend.
You're going to see good basketball if you love to watch teams play and play well and a lot of good stars today and also for tomorrow.
This is time to tune in.
You're going to watch girls get out here, give it their all.
And these young men, these young women really play well on the court.
I mean, I love watching them play when they get up down the court, they're really down on the floor for loose balls.
Take the open shot.
I'm going to be excited all week long.
Yeah, we could sense it already.
Let's talk about players to focus on and keep an eye on as we go.
Let's start off with Miller Grove and the Center of Attention T Square.
Toshi Thompson Well, this young girl really knows how to play the basketball game, averaging 15.8 points per game, 71% of the threes coming from the team are coming from her hands.
She's got to do one thing and one thing.
Well, today it's rebound.
She can shoot the ball, but when she rebounds, she makes the team a lot more effective.
All right.
That's one team down the next team up Southwest to cap.
And we're going to do something a little special.
We're going to focus on a young in this time around.
Well, I tell you what, this young girl, I love her.
She's a star.
This Nicole Martin, number 23, Rebound athletic all over the place.
If you love a person that really loves the heart of the game, she is it.
Nicole Martin is a rising star here at Georgia underlined excellent made it and italicized the third member of our team this afternoon Lindsay theory she's patrolling the sidelines.
Lindsey, what's the early word?
Hey there, guys.
Well, these two teams have already met twice this season, each winning their game at home.
So what about this neutral floor?
Well, Miller Grove head coach Renee Breedlove told me that her girls must block out a rowdy southwest Acab student section who rattled her girls to 20 Ms.. Free 20 Ms.. Layups 21 Miss Free throws back in December.
So let's see if those girls can block out this loud noise in the gym tonight.
Guys.
Thank you very much.
Linsey, The stage is set.
The girls a championship just around the corner.
A first ever.
Miller Grove and Southwest to cab round one from the arena.
Gwinnett Center Quarter Championship kicks off on the great GPB after this.
Welcome back to the Arena.
Gwinnett Center, a girls championship just about to get in here, the first of 11 championships on GPB this weekend.
Let's take quickly a look at the starting lineup.
So let's start off with Miller Grove.
We talked about Toshi Thompson and there's the other five coach.
Real quick, Katie Height.
I tell you what, she's the glue of this team.
She gets going and good things going to happen.
All right.
Flip side, Southwest, the cab in the open.
We talked about Nicole Martin in the middle and the rest of the lineup for Southwest.
The cab is pretty stout as well.
I'll tell you what.
Number four.
CARLSON Well, she's a senior.
She handles the ball, then leaves the team is going.
She's going to be good today.
And there's Renee Breedlove in her seat.
She's been everything.
She's been the only coach in Miller Grove has ever had.
And there's your southwest to cab.
Line up one more time, Shayla Rivers up top.
Everyone else in the Martin And we're going to come back and look at Kathy Walton Kathy Walton chasing after her fourth title in the last five years.
The three state titles 0809 2010.
She is back in a championship game.
Miller Grove, this is their first ever Final four.
This is their first ever championship game.
It's going to be interesting to see how they respond as a unit playing in this last game of the year for the first time.
I tell you what here, the keys with Miller Grove control the tempo of the game.
It's going to be a track race today and then they've got to win the rebounding battle with Miller go rebounds.
They do a good job of cutting down on those transition baskets from Southwest to cap.
What about on the flip side, for the folks who've been here before in South, you know, in Southwest to cap, it's old school for Kathy Walton.
She's been here before.
It's a different batch of players, even though there is some familiarity there.
There's a three areas that they're going to focus on.
They want to defend well in the full court.
Then they want to rebound, attack the offensive glass.
They only shoot 28% from the field.
So they've really attack offensive glass, trying to get second chance opportunities.
And finally transition.
They want a box out.
They want a border rebound and they didn't want to outlet it and run the floor.
Last words of encouragement right there for Kathy Walton.
She's been calm this entire weekend here when at center it's old hat for her.
But once again, it's a new batch of players that you have to bring in to this situation.
So she's ready to go.
Let's see if this particular group is as well.
Coming in at 21 and 11 playoff record, 34 and 15 all time.
First in DeKalb County, their last loss when they've been in the playoffs, 5551 to Mary's back in the seven quarter.
So Southwest, a cab knows what they're doing when they get here.
Well, I tell you what, this team is very excited.
They feel they have a dynasty going yourself with the cap.
But what's up?
Miller Grove is right there on their heels because they want to do exactly what the boys are winning, doing winning championships.
And Miller grows in a great position to get that done today.
And Southwest, the camp is doing this as a three seed coming through in Region six where Miller Grove and head coach Rene Breedlove, 20, you know, 24 and four, everything was fine for them and their losses.
They had two losses out of state at their Christmas tournament to 13th ranked nationally good counsel and O'Brien County.
So only half of their losses came from in-state.
Is that right?
But here's the thing.
They didn't have the bull's eye on their back this year.
So these girls really work hard and gel together through some adversity.
And now they hit the championship.
And here's a look at your officials, Matt Overstreet, Joe Carter and Glenda Bird.
The three in the striped shirts will be paying attention to.
TAP is won by Miller Grove, Napa, Adelphia, looking for signs.
Tasha Thompson feet inside off the glass and in for the first two, it is Tabitha Fudge.
I tell you what, that's what they want to do.
Get the ball inside, score a high percent shots passing very quickly.
Ball barely hitting the floor for Southwest.
A cap entry passed jumper in 16 rims around no good font for a rebound knocked out of bounds.
It'll go over to Miller.
GROSS You can hear the excitement.
Both fans are really into the game today.
Southwest to camp, pressing after the inbounds try to create some pressure.
THOMPSON Feeding the Middle Al it to you dough fire you Delphia dribble drive spin off the netting no good rebound on the inside again the basket is good this time for Lisa Weaver I tell you what, these young girls are playing well to impress Southwest to tap and get in hot pursuit shots and we talk about pressure.
It's time for Miller Grove to come back with pressure.
At the floor center of the floor press is broken over midcourt Shotwell dribbling on Utopia into the paint high arching shot is good off the right hand.
I tell you what, that's what they to do.
Get their lead the team with score she's got to be able to take the rim especially versus the press minute ten and four to Miller Grove looking quickly almost like six two but a foul on the inside as the shot was attempted by Tabitha.
But this is just getting it to the basket, making a smart play, attacking the rim.
You got to attack any type of press.
That's exactly what's up with Dean Stockwell, leading scorer for Southwest.
He can do anything a little over ten points a game at the line is Budge.
First one's up and go this young girl is going to High Point University.
I tell you what, she's going to be a good player there in the Big South conference.
First of two is good.
Second of two off the back room no good rebound.
You don't see a looking spin move block from the stick back southwest to cap comes out with it quickly shallow rivers long jumper is good that's a look that's the first a few southwest cap not known for a three point shooting but if they can add that to the arsenal today, watch out.
Rivers only hitting one out of every four on average when it comes to three point buckets.
Right now, we're tied at five, six and a half and counting.
First quarter, you don't feel good along the perimeter looking for an outlet.
Katie Hunt with the dribble drive off the glass.
No good Rebound kicked out Southwest a camp on the run two on one they got numbers pass deflected shallow rivers thinks better of it kicks it back out Saquon for three off the rim no good and back comes Katie Hunt with the dribbling down the floor bounce pass into Clarissa Weaver up on it I tell you what.
Transition basketball and MG is doing a good job of doing that, getting the outlet going, attacking.
They're in transition soft press met at half court sock well here's the press and the Jasmine Coleman back out or Saquon Rivers will reset Saquon around the perimeter razor looking double teamed in the corner by Hunt and Thompson jump ball alternate possession stays with Southwest again the Billy Graham does a good job of really pressing in the half court, maybe a 2 to 1, but they're doing a really good job.
And here I tell you what transition basketball, getting the ball to Weaver and Weaver finishing at the basket.
That's good.
Textbook basketball 75 mg soccer.
Looking inside Rivers gets the loose ball back soccer all head fake Coleman looking to clear out dribble into the paint high arching shot right hand rimming no good rebound on the inside went to fudge but passes intercepted whistles on the inside and foul amongst all the bodies tumbling one of the key starting of the game for Mila Grove.
They've got to win the rebounding battle.
You can't wait Southwestern to get second chance opportunities.
That's where they feature second chance opportunities looking to inbound on pressure, give and go back.
Rivers looking to drive baseline kicks it back out thinks better of it back to Stockwell now reset 512 and counting First quarter Miller Grove up seven five over southwest the can looking to drive.
Shot deflected by Stockwell kick back out on the run is Hart again sock Well height advantage too hot off the glass rimming no good rebound on the inside but jumping in I tell you what those girls who go over read this are they going to get that title today?
They're getting the rebound, they're pushing it and they're being aggressive.
Four point lead now for the Wolverines, nine five coming up on the halfway point of the first quarter.
Jump shot is off the glass.
No good.
Missing the rim and everything.
Rebound kicked out by Miller Grove again.
Here comes Hunt on Atlanta.
You don't fire you don't get thinking about insides bringing it back out.
Tashi Thompson Hunt thinking three kicks it Nearside baseline jumper Good little girl coming in with a lot of confidence, a lot of poise, being patient, making good passes to get great shots, time out, kicked out right there.
After the baseline jumper with Tabitha Fudge, Miller drove up now 11 560 run Now after the game was tied at five Miller Grove asserting themselves early on to Miller Grove and doing the things that we talked about, they control the tempo.
They're doing a good job of passing the ball, making extra pass.
And there you go, right there on the baseline, first taking the jump shot, putting big men.
And once again, you're talking about a championship game.
Looks like Miller Grove has acclimated themselves fairly quickly to this situation, their first ever championship game.
I know we keep talking about it.
And Cathie Walton right now, she's got some work to do down six.
Well, the key for their team is second chance opportunities.
We assume 20% from the field.
You've got to go and get the offensive rebound.
Well, Miller Grove is not allowing that to happen.
The limit to them, the one shot getting it out and it to play in transition early field goal opportunities Miller Grove four for seven from the field southwest to camp two of seven hitting 29% pass on the inside deflected and it'll be a turnover to Miller go again I'm going to go back to that rebounding statement Miller Grove win of the rebounding at 62 that's going to help them take the W today.
Coming up on the halfway point first quarter, Miller Grove up 611 five.
Katie Hunt calling the play at midcourt guarded by Nicole Raiser pass on the inside looking inside one more time off the glass up and in Clarissa Weaver textbook basketball they've got a little on what's it called the wheel offense cutting off the high poles and diving couple of players to the basket in the easy high passing shots.
That's what you want eight over one now for Miller Grove, 13 five shot deflected on the inside.
Once again, Miller Grove looking to kick it in transition, dribbling right up the middle of the floor off the glass rimming no good back comes Southwest, a camp southwest to camp three on two.
Will they take advantage Stockwell pass rivers jumper off the rim Rebound Fox on the inside Milagros go goes for the save out of bounds It'll stay with Southwest to camp Well I'm happy with this shot by Miller Grove and southwest the captain coming down to shoot a jump shot in transition.
That's not the strength, Duke, that you cut back on the rebound on the basketball.
We are heading to break Miller Grove on an eight run.
We start the first championship of 11 this weekend on the great GPB when at center take a trip around our great state of Georgia on Georgia traveler from the mountains to the coast, our traveling team explores the state's most beautiful, exciting and unique treasures.
Don't miss Georgia.
Travel on the great GPB.
Talk about treasures.
David Belsky is one fantastic guy to watch.
He's been hosting that show ever since our days back in black and white.
I know you like to travel the state of Georgia, too, but I love Georgia.
This is my territory.
Going to the University of Georgia.
Georgia playing for the coach dorm.
They're recruiting the whole state.
It's a beautiful city.
It's a beautiful state.
You've got to love it.
Now we talk about what's been going on.
Miller Grove on an eight point run with 321 to go here first quarter.
And you want to talk about a tale of two ideas from the floor.
Well, selfless.
The Cavs missed their last seven shots shooting the basketball outside eight five feet and it's not this great that 25% for the field Miller Grove on the other hand getting three of five best Italian right now and also the rebounding is and see if Southwest a cab can turn it around Inbound rivers to Stockwell Deja play now in the ballgame for Southwest.
A cat six to President, but she can also move the floor in transition if she needs to.
That's aways she's got great footwork.
She's works hard and that's going to be a big strength of hers I think this afternoon pass inside to clay knocked out of her hands on the way up picked up by Miller Grove alternate possession and we're heading back Miller Rosewell again watch no second chance scoring opportunities for Southwest at camp It's one and done with their shots and that's kind of been a dagger for them because their offense is predicated around offensive rebounding.
Coach Renee Breedlove giving the signals to Katie Hunt working the floor.
No pressure from Southwest at Cal.
They seem to be content in 2 to 3 zone until Hunt gets close to the offensive end.
You udupi around the horn.
Devin go with Tashi.
Thompson thinks about the jumper.
Nope, he goes fudge in around to Thompson again with the three.
I'll tell you what that's her strength when she's Super Bowl like that.
Thompson She's good.
15.8 points per game 71% of the threes this year out of her hands, 34% from the floor as a three point shooter this season.
And it's again, Miller Grove's defense comes up big, Thompson tries to break it out, lose.
But there comes Jasmine Coleman trying to fight for it, razor fighting for it as well.
And we got a whistle.
He's a kid.
These kids are really playing good, solid basketball, staying aggressive and doing a good job.
But looking here on offense for Miller Grove, Ball's been moving around tops upside top topside and Thompson teeing it up chip with three, 16, five, 11 straight points now for Miller Grove as we approach the two minute mark in the opening three days of clay, hanging on to the basketball, looking for a cutter at Stockwell.
And there it is.
You got to move to the basket.
What a playing in the zone.
You got to have cutters to the basket.
It was Stockwell probably the sort of person on the court getting easy basket 16 seven now back under double digits.
HUNT Now getting pressure.
WEAVER Utopia Thompson thinks about the three and got Jasmine Coleman to jump up in the air before she took the shot by hitting at three there in the opposite corner.
Really, it's the defense at the time she gets the ball now, they're going to really close that hard for her jump shot with a shot fake draw the foul.
Coleman's first Miller Grove 16 seven advantage outside shots falling early for the Wolverines as they chase after their first title Top of the key back out hunt around the horn Weaver into the ballgame now Sarika Brown running point now for Miller Grove only change to their lineup today looking inside Hunt easy jumper off the back of the rim No good rebound inside Tabitha fudge kicks it back out intercepted by Stockwell Stockwell has rivers they've got numbers two on one pass was behind rivers so she has to come back out Think of the reset inside two days of play off the glass up and in that's what Daisy Blake needs to do some random flow will go into position to post up deep was able to shoot over top of the defender 69 now Southwest to Campbell then seven they've scored four in a row.
Coming up on one minute to go first quarter in the quarter girls championship.
Thanks for watching and however you're watching us today on Georgia Public Broadcasting, the first of 11 championships we have this weekend tonight from Gwinnett Center tomorrow from the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center plex.
There's that real action there for Miller Grove.
Just kind of utilize the clock under a minute left in the game.
Thompson now two for two on three.
I tell you what, she didn't have a good game yesterday, but I tell you, she's coming out today, staying aggressive, getting to her straight.
They're shooting the three.
Thinking about the three is Sokolow on the return 19 910 point advantage on your 30 seconds shot blocked by Clarissa Weaver.
We're heading the other way.
The emotional edge is for Miller Grove.
Look at the defense.
Look at the team.
The way they're playing, they're playing great defense.
And I tell you, whenever you get a chance to come out and contest straight up and down, she just did a great job.
Textbook defense.
I'll tell you what, Miller Grove is doing a fantastic job of defending the basketball third turnover for Southwest.
The Cavs here in the first quarter, now under 20 seconds to go.
Miller Grove trying to get the lead past ten right now at 19, denied Brown looking inside on a high low Thompson for a three shots no good but they're going to call a foul on the inside and it kicks back to Southwest again.
Well, this is Southwest.
A cab get caught up on the screen was a foul, but Southwest Catherine's got a fight with this screen so they can't have the open shot.
But Thompson, Tasha Thompson, her second foul.
Not to keep an eye on that if she picks up another one here in the first half under 5 seconds.
SAKWA Looking to drive, running out of time.
Better put something up.
Fox Going to run out and it will Tough Miller Grove Defense keep Southwest at camp from getting off a shot at the end of the first quarter.
Miller Grove up 19 to 9 as the first quarter comes to a close.
Miller Grove chasing after their first championship ever in the quarter Girls championship.
More from the Arena Gwinnett Center when we come back on GPB.
Welcome back to the Arena Gwinnett Center, one quarter down, second quarter coming up in the girls body championship between Miller Grove and Southwest to camp.
But GPB Sports Mark Harmon, along with Herb White Center court during halftime of the five boys game with the top three dunkers in the state of Georgia voted the best rim rockers Rim Rattlers and Skywalkers in the state You voted online.
Now you can see them live in action with their high flying activity.
It's the GPB sports AJC Slam Dunk Exhibition at the half of the five eight boys game tonight.
930 game start on g p b Lindsay theory.
What's going on on the sideline.
All right.
Inside the southwest DeKalb Huddle coach one was telling her girls, we have got to get back on defense and stop Miller Grove from taking wide open shots.
She reminded that this is only the first quarter.
There's four quarters to play.
They're still in this game and they just have to get back to their game plan.
Guys, thank you very much.
Lindsay, a lot of numbers to take in from that first quarter.
I tell you what, Miller Group out rebounding 7 to 4 southwest to cap for 12 from the field, Miller Grove seven of 12 from the field.
So they take taking the same amount of shots but Miller Grove is getting higher percentage shots and cut back on the second chance opportunities of southwest of CAP.
Remember this game was tied at five before Miller Grove went on an 11 zero run, closed the quarter out 19 nine.
We start the second quarter.
Stockwell bringing it up for Southwest to cap in today's big play on the perimeter.
She thought about the three taking it back out to Stockwell and they will reset looking for some action to help off a screen.
Saka looking to drive kicks it inside.
Daisy Clay Armstrong I tell you what, basically had an opportunity to set the ball screen soft.
We'll use it.
If you're going to bring a post, play away from the basket, utilize the ball screen that when you have a mismatch, an opportunity to great at the basket.
They didn't utilize it.
They got the ball turned into the paint She travel turnover to three zone for southwest the cab in the game it is Stockwell it is Davion Wingate now number 20 in on the point of the zone to join Daysha Clark and Coleman and Nicole Martin Thompson looking off the elbow jumper.
Good at the five.
She's doing a great job, 15 feet in the air and she's getting that jump shot, which unfortunate Southwestern camp is not defending her.
You got to guard 37 points now for Tabitha Fudge.
Out of their 21 jump shot, they should play off the rim no good.
Two Miller Grove bodies in the air batted around, picked up by Coleman by Southwest.
The Cavs looking to spin Clay.
You'll try it again off the front of the rim.
No good net for you Sophia coming out with it for Miller Grove, cutting back to those second chance opportunities.
Miller Grove almost allow one to happen itself with the tablet, the opportunity slip away.
Sarai Blissett into the ballgame now number 31 familiar grove to give them some added height on the inside and try to counteract Daisy Clay Parsons intercepted shotwell coast to coast off the glass in it southwestern camp.
The three things they do well they defend and they rebound.
They love transition basketball They've got a great steal right there from Sako in transition was able to get these best six of Southwest the Cavs 11 points have come from the hands of Nakia Stockwell in this game.
Coming up on 6 minutes to go first half, Myrtle Grove up 1021 to 11.
Shaka Brown running point now for the Wolverines sock.
Go man on playing catch.
Look for a set so they can reset flare, you know, field whistle on the inside.
Looks like a foul on Daisy Play Does that wheel action a little curl right there off the high screen and addictive bend it so she's able to get to the basket now going to the free throw line.
Now let's look at how Southwest, the Cavs trying to get back into this ballgame.
There's your pass fast hands.
I tell you what, she's showing you why she's leading the team in scoring steals and getting to the rim in transition.
She's a pretty good player.
This sophomore, first free throw by you don't fire off the rim no good.
And yes, to go ahead and answer the trivia question.
If the last name is familiar, older brother fond down on the flats.
Tell you what this team I'm looking at this team right now, Milagro.
And I'm telling you, John, they are really excited.
They are really ready to play the basketball game.
And I just love watching them play the five in Familiar Grove right now.
So recap Brown Utopia Hunt will set and Tabitha fudge ball goes out of bounds and it's going to stay with Mila Grove hunt on the inbounds and dangerously close to a five Got to do something with it throws a pass Dangerous pass picked off by Nicole Martin and a whistle by blue set as she was trying to go for a steal on defense.
But there's that girl, Nicole Barton, and getting her hands on the ball and getting some deflections.
Haven't been as active as thought she was going to be.
The date she's got to get into the rhythm for this team, for this southwestern camp to have a chance to play off the inbounds.
555 and counting.
First half, Mila Grove up 2111 girls quite a championship Stockwell jumper rimming no good rebound in there by Brissette long outlet pass the two up she Sarita Brown as she was looking to walk away inside turnover and it's heading back southwest to Cavs one I tell you what again great play for Mila Grove one shot deep outlet just the turnover but if they continue to play like that they're going to put the personal self with the canvas up with the Cavs got taken off this blows 542 empowering first half no pressure from Miller Grove on the southwest inbound looks like Miller Grove is going to drop into Fox and Chaser some kind of his own feel.
They got someone on soccer at all times.
Pass by Klay looking for razor going way too high turnover Domelevo.
Well Stockwell has been doing a good job of attacking the press, so instead of allowing her to attack the press, give full court speak, slow the ball down defensively did not hurt the ball When she gives it up and make everyone else try to beat you will set out of the ball games.
Ariel Walker now in four southwest to cab number 12.
So you're looking at Fudge Udoka and Weaver the big players down low for the Wolverines to go with Thompson and Surekha Brown Hedo fire looking for help could not move gives it back to Surekha Brown so she can dribble into the paint blocked Jasmin Coleman coming up big on the block on the drive there to keep this at ten for the time being able to get penetration off the ball screen but Coleman they're going straight up using her verticality timing it right good block That's the big left hand out of their inbound once again, trying to create something around the perimeter southwest to cap getting into a lot of the passing lanes, disrupting Miller Grove and there having to reset Adelphia comes out with it long pass into traffic again fudged to Thompson shrugs razor pass inside back to fudge off the rim No good second chance up and in Milagro get their hands on the ball at the right time Selfless attempt had a chance to come up with a steal there on the floor but they'll broke coming back capitalizing on mistakes Go Southwest tab getting 15 points Weaver with the two there scrum on the floor we're going to get whistles alternate possession sends it back Milagros way this ball moving attacking being aggressive wraparound pass Ms. That's it second chance opportunities there utilized that the game plan for Southwest tap does it take the offensive glass and get some rebounds you don't fire with possession passes to Surekha Brown Brown tripped on the play gives a whistle and both of these teams playing with so much emotion you can feel it in the stands, both people coming out the cap county and wanting it wanted to showcase.
They've got a good showcase today but Billy Grove was playing really, really good Aerial Walker called for the foul there.
Now they're saying the shades are in number 22 for southwest to catch Brown handing off to Toshi Thompson double team looking for some help inside Weaver blocked again by Coleman tries to get her own shot back.
We've got a whistle on the inside You want to talk about disruptive?
It is Jasmine Coleman right now.
She's showing some toughness.
She says, I'm not going to let you guys come here, get these easy baskets.
It's going to be one this paint.
That's exactly what she's doing.
Second foul, though, picked up on that block.
Thompson in a high dribble fashion, throw up a shot and we got another whistle on Southwest You can foul on the Cole razor this time you got to play that Thompson that wants to be physical down low She's going to get in foul trouble.
Now Villanova, on the other hand, has a great chance to attack her, go at her, make a pick up the third foul because she's not going to be that aggressive, doesn't want to get in foul trouble first.
Free throw Up and No Good by Tashi Thompson on the year 68% free throws shooting makes the second she can really shoot that basketball Great form great follow through I love watching her stroke raise her into shot and the saves on the back court for Southwest to cap Tasha's her with it guarded by nephew Duke you pass inside tried to force one whistle on the inside again it's a turnover on southwest to cap we're heading back the other way.
I tell you what that was great rotation there by Thompson.
Thompson was up high saw the penetration on the baseline she cut off the baseline pass forced a turnover house Milagros bonds fifth turnover of the game for Southwest to cap 17 fouls now for Southwest to cap something to keep an eye on.
We're heading to the other end for one and one half.
This could be the tail end of the game right here.
If Milagro grow up and get to the free throw line here early, the midpoint of the second quarter, they could extend the lead because Southwest of CAP not putting up some numbers.
First free throw by Thompson up and back as a team.
Miller Grove only hitting 51% of their free throws.
Thompson hits them both and with that 351 to go first half, Miller Grove with a 15 point lead on Southwest to cap 26 to 11 at the arena one at center.
We'll come back for the remainder of the first half in the girls quarter championship when we return to GPB and welcome back to the Arena.
When center Miller Grove with a 15 point lead, it is year two coming up for GPB Sports football.
Friday's in Georgia bigger and better than ever, kicking off August 31st with the battle of the big chicken, a double helping a high school sports action live from McEachern High School and the return of all your Friday night favorites from Are You Smarter to Rent Check the preview of high school sports around the state with some guy named John Nelson in the John's Georgia segment from Ringgold in Valdosta.
Savannah de La Grange.
We got you covered this fall with football.
Friday's in Georgia, only on the great GPB.
I think some good basketball football players in the state of Georgia.
There are a few.
You think so?
Yeah.
And there's also some good basketball players in the state of Georgia.
Well, exactly right.
I think there's, of course, I tell you what, both sports you got to commend what the Georgia High School Association has really done, really pushing and marketing these sports teams.
I mean, from the south part of Georgia to the north part, east, west and south, the entire state, basketball, football, all the sports here in the state are selling second quarter field goals.
Miller Grove hitting two of five southwest at Camp one of four, Miller Grove on a run to Hill Grove on the run, 10 to 2.
And I tell you what, it started with three 36.9 points in the first quarter.
And so if you add that up, you were talking for nine.
So 4 minutes and 45 seconds, Miller Grove is going 10 to 2 rebounding edges to Miller Grove, ten five Well, there's a stat that's not being shown you really can't market right now.
It's the hustle stats.
MG was winning the hustle stats.
That's dumb deflections.
Those are the loose balls.
Those are the second chance opportunities.
Miller Grove is doing everything they can to win this game.
Snap was coming out for Miller Groves, Erika Brown, nephew, Delphia and Thompson Budge and Weaver for Southwest to cab.
It is Nicole Martin Stasia play Nicole raiser 15 in the back court as always Rivers in Sakwa we focused on Nicole Martin in the open and 23 Dark Bay hit kept a clamp on her Miller Grove has this ballgame at ten what she hasn't been you know she's been nonexistent and she's got to really step up to the plate.
What's up with step has a chance shot by Nicole Razor is blocked on the inside.
There are six hands at see which hands they say Got to Nicole Razor.
You give it to Nephew Duffy on the foul.
and her first the day 15 foul from Miller Grove to the line Nicole Raisin customers up off the front of the way if you look at the body language a little bit of southwest the cap just doesn't have the bounce that Miller Grove has.
And that also adds to the fact that Miller Grove is more athletic and a little bit bigger right now than some of us camp Lane violation on the second free throw, which will wipe out the point on the board for Southwest to guard.
So they're stuck at down 15 coming up three and a half and counting first half Shaka Brown looking to direct traffic guarded by Shotwell dribbles into a double team ball goes out of bounds and it's heading back the other way.
Not good pistons, not a good possession right there, not a good position.
You've got to really take good care of the basketball because you can't allow Southwest to pay up to come down and capitalize, maybe get a three point play here.
Turnovers now even at five razor, what do you drive off?
The elbow shot partially blocked rebounded downfield Thompson will hand off to Sarika Brown and they'll work their way up the floor.
3 minutes and counting.
First at the tough man set by Southwest DeKalb.
Right now Thompson looking to drive free throw line extend it off the glass misses the rim rebound on the inside Weaver blocked from behind by clay and razor Third shot as a whistle We back some their familiar grove but that's not Thompson's strength when she has to score off the bounce not a sprint even though she does open off the ball screen not her strip but give credit what little Grove is doing getting in position to get the offense rebound and a chance to get to the free throw line.
Two shots for Weaver foul on Williams was just a junior so she's got a chance to improve and I think she'll have a chance to play Division one.
At some level.
She's got to work at a jump shot.
She's got to work on the free throws and she's got to get a little bit more strong in the post.
Weaver 43% free throws shooter on the year knocks down the second one.
There's 27 to 11 now.
Miller Grove up 16th, Frazier to rivers Rivers looking inside flaring off the jumper off the back of the rim.
No good bodies hitting the floor.
Weaver had it for Milagro trying to work it back the other way.
Ball goes out of bounds, stays with Southwest.
Mark taking a shot from 15 feet didn't go in but again Miller Grove not allowing the second chance scoring opportunities on the baseline entry.
Stockwell looking finds Coleman inside.
Martin driving off the glass no good gets your own rebound Three bodies come out with its Miller Grove to Southwest canvas looking for Martin to take over just can't finish inside the paint Brown long outlet inside Weaver trying to scramble with it after the pass responded Durden back comes sock left for Southwest, the cap blocked by Griffin second shot up and in gets the one for Martin.
There's a girl Morton a freshman.
I'm telling you she's going to be special.
You're going to hear her name.
The combine from Southwest.
A camp in Southwest started out one for seven from the floor in this quarter.
Southwest, four bodies in their own defensive zone.
But the inbounds pass, Miller Grove, easily breaks the pressure.
Thompson with it back to see Rico Brown hit that double team and I'm going to call a whistle on the pressure from all the reason the step was really trying to force a tempo with their defense.
Let's get some food, cook traps, halfcourt traps they can't reach to try to gain possession of the basketball and snap the ball a high pass, get a transition, steal and get a layup.
That's what Southwest camp has a D belt.
Put Miller Grove at the free throw line fouls called on the call Razor her second straight ninth team foul on Southwest Acab.
So that means that Shaka Brown heads to the line with a 14 point lead that can be extended for 17 on the year.
So what does she do with the first free throw?
She thinks it that's what happens when you have the energy and excitement in championship form.
Good things happen to you.
Second free throw up and in that's that's milagro bad it's best capitalized on mistakes from south with southwest the cap hitting the free throws and fortunate lead up to the 16th 2913 coming up on 100 seconds to go first half of the girls quarter championship battle of region six top seed southwest top seed Miller Grove against three seed Southwest can pressure in the corner Coleman guarded by Weaver ball knocked away coming out with it is five bucks to Shaquanda Dirt and Durden to Shaka Brown and try to set up the offense here along the perimeter Brown back with it top up goes inside Fudge Left hand, no good.
Coleman chasing after it with four.
So Weaver goes out of bounds.
Jasmine Coleman ends up on the scorers table to a Jasmine Coleman.
We got the knee brace on.
She's playing through whatever issues that have it going on with that left knee.
She's a warrior down the court.
She's a warrior.
She's a fighter.
She said, Hey, I will put this team on my back.
I have to dabble on the floor for loose ball or even to the stands.
They do everything they can to try to pick Beasley, and she's had a couple of key blocks and then a big presence in the paint for Southwest the court to keep this at 16 Socorro looking to dribble drive passes near side to rivers give them go back cyclone here near win looking to go on ground it has to pass it off drive off the rim is good Coleman coming back with the rebound for Southwest a cab to try to reset off the shot by aerial walker and a whistle Southwest the Cavs second chance opportunities now getting the foul but again not hitting the shots 28% from the field for two for the season This will showing today balance Erykah Brown 16 foul for Miller Grove Rivers looking to inbound with 49.1 to go first half Coleman Stockwell back outside aerial Walker looking to drive on 30 and another whistle in the paint southwest That's what they have to do to this zone attack don't settle for the jump shot getting their tech forced to the foul and you got a reversal on the ball 43 seconds to go first half Miller Grove.
All the content looked like to take their time for the remainder of the first half.
Brown backs it back out fudge inside to Weaver and reach in on area Walker Walker got caught behind defensively.
You can't allow that to happen, especially when you're trying to half court.
Everyone has to be in front, be in the passing lanes because you can't allow easy passes to attack tech rim Second foul on Walker Rivers first free throws.
No difference in telling numbers and it comes two free throws.
Exactly right southwest of Cam Olsen one Miller Grove seven for 13 with 17 attempts more free throws than you make.
That team is going to most likely come out with a dominant weaver, gets the back end to make it 30 to 13.
Miller Grove Rivers looking for a lot of help on this inbound gives it the sack well under 25 seconds down in the corner double team it is Davion Wingate turned over once more little girls off the deflection of their own.
Almost an over and back.
Thompson has to save it and Brown has to save it.
Whistle with 8.1 as Thompson tries a three.
It's an offensive foul on Miller Grove.
Looks like it was on Clarissa Weaver, who's looking for both an explanation and giving an explanation.
Yeah, she saw a post up with 8.1 seconds to go.
You don't need that.
It's her first seventh on Miller Grove and get down the floor in a hurry to try to get the 17 point deficit trimmed.
And that's not going to do it again.
Turnovers, miss shots and turnovers is the key least to what Southwest camp is trying to do.
They turned the ball over and they're not getting second chance opportunities, which is history.
Toshi Thompson tries the three ball knock out of her hands and he shot no shot.
Before we get to the end of the second quarter, a dominant performance by the Miller Grove Wolverines in the first half holding Southwest to CAB, who's going after their first 4/4 championship in the last five years, 3213 Miller Grove.
Let's send it to Lindsey Thiry on the sideline and Coach Breedlove.
All right, Coach, you said you were going to back down to the southwest, a captain.
Did you expect to go into it with a double digit lead it and a half?
No, we didn't.
But we knew they were going to expect a zone coming out of here.
We came out in a man and they weren't they weren't ready for what we did to them.
One half of basketball all the way from your first state.
What do you tell the girls in the locker room?
Don't let up.
Don't let up.
We don't keep playing defense.
32 minutes up the road.
Good luck, coach.
Thank you.
All right, Mark, let's go over to you on the set.
Lindsey, thank you so much.
We are at halftime.
The girls for a state championship game between Miller Grove and Southwest, A cab, Miller Grove leading at 3213.
Coming up at the half, we'll talk to educators from both high schools.
We'll see what fans are talking about online right now in the chat rooms.
Plus, we'll have first half highlights and statistics.
It's all coming up right after this.
Time out on the great GPB.
Again, the four eight girls championship game.
And it's Miller Grove leading Southwest.
The Cavs 3213 as we head to halftime on GPB.
Stay with us.
Welcome back to the JB halftime show for Championship Weekend.
I am Mark Harmon.
We're at halftime of the fourth game between Miller Grove and Southwest A.
Joining me now, Matthew Priester, the principal at Miller Grove High School.
And thanks for coming on with this.
Tell us what it's been like at high school at Miller Grove this week because both your boys and girls team have made the championship game.
Mark To be honest, we have been relatively quiet at the school, I think because of the focus for number one.
And I think number two, the boys I know have been before actually we are pursuing our four state championship today and the girls, this is our first time.
But when I did get opportunities, supply some spirit busses, the kids bought out the spirit busses.
We bought three busloads of kids here.
So I think they say the energy for it today, I don't think they used it up during the week, but today they came out.
They want to motivate the players on today so that we can go and pursue these championships.
All right.
During football season, we asked the principals the question from the Georgia graduation test.
This is a lot different.
We're going to ask you what you know about men's footwear.
So what do you know about men's footwear?
Women's footwear.
Let's take a look here.
That's the list, of course, women's footwear.
And you're looking for what that is called.
And of course, this platform shoe was very popular in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries in Venice.
It caused unstable and an inelegant gait.
And so when you wore them, you had to have a servant or somebody kind of balance you around as you walk on these.
I might have had a pair of these when I went to the discos back in the day.
But what do you think that is?
A, B or C, looks like a platforms.
Unfortunately, it is a Chopin.
Chopin?
I didn't know that either.
But we learned something.
And when you come back next time, we'll have another.
Good for you.
Looking for help, students to help me?
Not at all.
No help.
All right.
Well, let's check in with Jacqui now because she's got our social media here, Jacqui.
Thanks, Mark.
Let's get to a couple of comments from our chat.
We're talking with Briana Warner right now, who's actually an alumni for Southwest Cavs.
It's taken a beating right now in the game, but she is streaming the game in Kansas right now where she is in school currently.
And she knows a thing or two about playing in the state championships because she told me she has three rings to prove it.
So be sure to keep chatting with us at GPB Dawgs Sports.
And don't forget that we also have a poll that we want you guys to participate in.
And since we're talking about the AJC Dunk contest, it's coming up later on today.
We want your opinion on whether or not it's just a popularity contest since the viewers the viewers pick the winner ultimately is to vote online.
So vote yes if you think it's just a popularity contest or vote no, if you think that the winners are picked solely because of their performance.
And like I said, stay in your seat, because coming up on GPB later on this afternoon, we will have the get to see dunk contest during the halftime of the boys five game.
And you don't want to miss that, Mark.
All right, Jacqui, thanks so very much.
We now are joined by the assistant principal at Southwest Camp High School, Terry Simmons.
Thanks for coming on.
Thank you.
Tell us what it's like at your high school, because, again, both your boys and girls team have made it to the championship game and we're excited at Southwest the camp.
Our community is excited because we're rich in tradition, so we're extremely happy that both our boys and our girls are today.
And it's just been a just a flurry of activity in and Panther Pride all week.
Now, your girls team had won three straight going into last year, so a lot of success with that program.
Well, I didn't want to bring that up now.
Yes.
Thank you very much.
And we are extremely proud of our girls.
Last year we didn't make it, but we're here this year and we're proud of them.
And we're going to we're going to do all we can to pull it out again.
In terms of the boys, Shaq Goodwin won the AJC GB Slam dunk contest and he's going to participate tonight in Between the Boys five game at halftime.
Great, as William is a great athlete and the team does well.
They gel well and we're just looking forward to a great game.
All right.
Now, I have to ask you what you know about men's footwear.
So they're going to put the graphic up there.
Men's footwear this year looking for a turn shoe.
And it's a type of shoe made of leather used during the Middle Ages name because it was once put together inside out and then it was turned right side out once it was finished.
So what do you think that is?
I guess I'll just go with a turn shoe.
All right.
You can't hear the bell, but at the beginning you are correct.
Way to go.
You know your men's shoes.
All right.
The battle of shoes, Mr.
Phrase is the Southwest, the cab.
All right.
Time now to take a break.
We'll be back with more in our GBP halftime show right after this timeout.
Stay with us.
Again.
I thank you all.
Welcome back to championship weekend here on GPB, where at halftime the girls for a state championship game between Miller Grove and Southwest cap.
Time now to send it back to the broadcast booth so John and Sean let's get it on was a poet didn't know it.
Thank you very much Mark Harmon.
And Sean, if you looked at that scoreboard and you see a 17 point Miller Grove game, is that a surprising result?
I tell you what, that's a result of what Miller Grove is trying to accomplish.
They want to be hungry, get that first state championship.
That's all of this on their mind.
The whole community, they're coming out there attacking and forcing the tempo with their turnovers and also their defense.
Not intimidated by this surrounding it all.
Let's go to the first half highlights and take a look.
Southwest the camp in it early.
Here you go.
Miller Grove is doing a good job of trying to force play, but Southwest the Cavs come out suck.
Well get that still in transition in the East baskets.
Not too many of those for the entire first half.
But the Miller grow is going to come back again attacking getting high percentage shots when you can score easy at point blank range, it's going to open up the basketball game for you If you shoot the ball outside it in and you talk about a five all game and then all of a sudden Miller Grove gets it wide open.
Tashi Thompson hitting from the outside Lindsay theory is with head coach of Southwest to cap Kathy Walton Let's find out what the coach had to say to our team at the break.
Lindsay All right, Coach, your girls are turning the ball over and getting out rebound outrebounded.
How do you make adjustments here in the second half?
we just got to get in there and fight.
I think we were a little flat at the beginning, but I think they're ready to get back in there and fight a little harder.
17 points down.
What did you tell them to get back into it?
We're just going to take a one stop and one basket at a time.
There's no 17 point plays.
Good luck in the second half.
Okay.
Thank you.
Thank you, Lindsay.
And thanks to the coaches.
Your first half stats and you look at that left hand side, six of 23 from the floor for Southwest, the cab turnovers 8 to 5.
I tell you what is the free throws that I'm looking at whenever a team makes more than you attempt they're the ones that's being aggressive.
Milagro I think it's going to continue that trip.
Southwest camp They've got to buckle up, tighten up and be more aggressive in the second half.
Just under 20, just under 30%.
From the floor for Southwest, a cab, Miller drove just under 50% from the floor.
And you got it.
You've literally it's got to be possession at a time right now to get back from 17.
You can't be aggressive.
You try to get out him before he's got to take it one position at a time.
Like you said, just be patient and let it come to you.
Look at the starting fives for the second half inbounding it'll be Shailagh Rivers for Southwest and Rivers, Stockwell Coleman, Martin and Nicole Razor, the starting five back out in there and the Jumper is good to start things off for Jasmine Coleman.
I'll tell you what, let her see that outside shot, getting that confidence.
I think she's going to stay more be more aggressive here in a second here.
Tashi Thompson looking for help finds Nafi You go fire back out it is Hunt Thompson you fire in the middle.
It is Weaver and Fudd starting fires back out for both teams.
Hunt looking for an inside move.
Pass is intercepted down the floor It is Nicole Martin pull up jumper.
Got it.
That's the stuff.
That's the stuff.
And she can do that.
That's going to help this team get it w today.
She should have been doing that in the first half, but as a freshman she needed some time.
17 down to 13 and 45 seconds pass inside, knocked away by Sokolow.
Here comes rivers with it back to Stockwell in the back court will bring it up the floor for southwest who can score the first four points of the second half inside Coleman kicks it back out, jumper off the rim.
No good fight for rivers Try to go over the back I'm Tashi Thompson passes to you dopey falls out of bounds and it'll go the other way And here's your steal to a southwestern camp Here's a girl that's the future star Martin Just taking it pulling up 15 feet.
Nice touch in front of the rim, back of the rim and through.
And that's what is given Southwest, the first four points of the second half rivers in with the tall timber kicks it back out in the sack.
Well, no reset whistle on the play but the ball was out of bounds underneath on the pass and you better allow your momentum to get to you about bad mistake that you got to continue to attack.
And this was selfless the Cavs going for it the temple with a big one two to press picked up three quarters court wardrobe, clears half court, brings it into the offensive zone.
Inside finds Weaver looking for an effort you don't see it knocked out of bounds by Coleman only gets up with the tap deflections they may have eight deflections here within the first minute and a half in the second half.
So they can do that, keep consistency with that.
It's those type of deflections.
I think they get some steals in transition, maybe get back into his league pass fantasy Thompson.
Thompson can't hang onto it Castle is headed out of bounds tried to save it goes over to southwest a cabin in talking with coach Breedlove of Miller Grove that's what she likes that she got to have those deflections on her board.
Razor driving blocked by Weaver Weaver with that tall presence, that long arm, that league not allowing them to come in southwest to camp, to come in and get the easy basket here.
You see there Weaver just coming over, being alone 620 and counting Third quarter off the elbow jumper by Martin No good rebound picked up by Tabitha fudge No breath coming back with it Hunt gets past Stockwell three on one numbers blocked again Nicole Martin this time did you see that?
Did you see that?
Yes, I did.
Good gosh.
He's a freshman in high school.
People.
She's a freshman in high school.
She's going to be a star.
Watch the right arm.
Look at it.
Look at it.
Look at her, Timing it perfectly.
She should have been a dunk contest.
I believe she did not want that basketball in her particular defensive zone.
I'll tell you what, I like watching her plays.
He plays with so much tenacity.
She's going to give it 100% every time She's got to learn the game, get her skills right.
She's going to be good.
The second one of those that she has it, Rivers has had a drive turnaround hunt.
Got it.
she's smooth she's moved good basketball play under control.
She's going to take the ball into her hands and force Southwest to camp into a bad opportunity defensively Coleman to razor clear half court shallow rivers looking inside Coleman Shotwell baseline got it now we change it baskets going back and forth back and forth Whose defense is going to step up eight now for Stockwell as she leads southwest a can do delphia with an offensive zone.
Double team finds Hunt who has help if she wants it ball hit the floor.
Somehow she found Tabitha Fudge who found nephew Duffy for the banker.
This all?
I didn't hear anything.
That's what defense is.
Two points.
Great basketball for Miller Grove.
Getting it to the high post utopia, kissing it off the glass margin back up to 1534 19 Miller Grove now 5 minutes to go.
Third quarter Utopia out on Stockwell way out.
High Pass was way too high Weaver on Stockwell spin move trying to find somebody intercepted by Stockwell coming back the other way Numbers three on one pull up jumper good That's textbook basketball You press that every day Outlet basketball three on two pull up jumps up one 2 to 3 quarter court press easily cleared by Miller Grove Tabitha Fudge looking for help back out to hunt top of the key looking to drive whistle before she hit the paint Hunt's a pretty good player she's a blue to that team.
When she's playing and putting the ball into her hands.
She's really good the risk but this is test book basketball transition pull up for the jump shot and that's the reason for the first foul on Stockwell.
That is the second Southwest DeKalb foul here in the second half, something we'll pay attention to next couple of minutes.
Numbers Weaver tried to spin into the paint ball knocked out of her hands back comes southwest the can Nicole raiser long pass give and go back to raise a block again by Weaver but they're going to call a foul You know what that was a clean block but you've got to call a foul but this is a great play by freshman Barton Just a touch pass.
Understand the game tell you she's going to be special fouls on Weaver her second There's your given girl and there's the got another look from up high give go Got you Nice touch pass And I tell you what that's what Southwest the camp does play a little bit more for you Stay aggressive implement the press first free throw no good for Nicole Raiser averaging just under eight points a game 64% from the foul line on the season and for the free throw line has become a crutch for southwest to pay off this afternoon Shayla rivers out Davion Wingate in for southwest at camp second free throws good is that pressure Here's that pressure cleared easily Thompson guarded by Stockwell drives on soft well dish off the glass no good Weaver tried to get in for the rebound over the back Every play this second half is a bit involved in.
She's got to be involved.
She's got to realize what she can do and how talented she can be.
And here's our first warning sign.
Weaver, that is her third foul, picked up two in a hurry Southwest, a cab shooting 50% here in the third quarter down to 12 route pass inside.
This is everything but pick back up by Stockwell to reset cross-court and incomplete goes 3420 to Miller Grove and we have hit the halfway point of the third quarter 350 remaining who will win the class Quanta Girls championship.
The answer coming up on GPB Sharma Obviously.
Welcome back to the Arena Gwinnett Center.
Here's something to do.
Watch Georgia outdoors from inside your living room.
They're able to cozy up with bats and frogs hang on the beach with sea turtles and kayak down the ultimate river.
Get wild with Sharon Collins and Nature Watch Georgia outdoors on the great GPB.
A stunning show.
Barry stunning Shane Keating, lead videographer on that does some amazing work Georgia outdoors on GPB John your fish know when I was eight years old I got the hook caught in my thumb and I took that as a sign not to do that anymore.
I tell you what, one of the guys, a young, older gentleman that's just passed away, got the moral hold on Athens, Georgia.
He used to go fishing in Athens all the time.
my teammates, I tell you, I really got to love and pass him for that.
Good fishing, good relaxing.
You can do it well here in Georgia, no doubt about that.
But I prefer just to watch.
And that's what we're doing right now.
Miller drove up a dozen, 350 and counting, third quarter, chasing after their first ever state championship, trying to follow in the footsteps of.
The boys team will have their opportunity.
Coming up next on GPB against Southwest the cab weaver up and in tell you what that's a good up and under route and we've a textbook look at she's got a little bounce to us Steph getting it inside to Weaver getting up and under and I tell you she is playing very good solid here for this go team back out to 14 325 and counting Razor looking outside Stockwell playing catch bounce pass to the inside to Coleman up and down the call and step Coleman is not a playmaker.
She's not a play, make and play to this trip.
If you try to play to your weaknesses to be aggressive, turnovers are going to come.
11 turnovers for Southwest to cat in this ballgame WHISTLE and McCollum steps on the road now Southwest to cab out to a hot start third quarter then you get into trading baskets Miller Grove trying to take momentum back here in the third.
I tell you what it's going back and forth like a seesaw.
Both teams just got to stay aggressive and keep the defense.
But you can't allow turnovers to happen and that's what Southwest Cab is doing And give it right back tomorrow.
Shaka Brown into the ballgame now for Miller Grove to run point and she gets the turnover there.
Hunt Weaver one touch passing looking for Tabitha fudge turnover Miller Grub coming back the other way it's Davion Wingate for Southwest a cab pass to Stockwell Socko clears halfcourt razor looking to drive baseline on Weaver does not at the elbow jumper off the rim no good by Coleman Miller Grove comes back out with a Tashi Thompson double team Coleman hits the floor Stockwell playing top defense ball hits the floor.
If we get the timeout call in time from Miller Grove, I don't think we did alternate possession to Miller Grove down to the two and a half minute mark of the third quarter.
Miller Grove up 3622 Southwest.
The cab trying to get back into the ballgame, one possession at a time.
As Kathy Walton told our Lindsey Thiry at the break.
So Southwest kept spinning their defense, suppressing the man to man, trying to force the trap, get the turnover budge inside Weaver Mill Grove Good pass is, Good pass as well.
You pass the ball good and solid.
Good things happen.
Get it to the high post.
Getting the high post to pass it down low easily at 14.
Now for Clarissa Weaver in the ballgame Ball touches a couple of hands knocked out of bounds.
Let's take a look at that last basket again, getting it out of the double team, get it to the high post easy basket down low She kept the ball That's what love about that young girl.
She kept the ball high Textbook basketball.
These girls have been coached and talk a lot of good things Weaver averaging 8.7 rebounds a game ball knocked off of Weaver out of bounds as aerial Walker tried to go up for the two under 2 minutes to go 10 minutes left in the season for both of these teams One of them is going to be the girls class quad champion.
Razor tried to drive to the inside and a whistle called on Miller Grove.
Looks like it's Katie Hunter.
It's got to be.
Address yourself, Mr. Camp.
Attack, attack, attack.
And that's her fourth foul.
So she's going to have to sit Nephew Doe fire coming in for Renee Breedlove 16 point game Miller Grove trying to hang on to this lead Inbounding now is southwest a camp big drive off the glass no good short by Ariel Walker.
It looks like Nicole razor fouled nephew Duffy as she's trying to make her way up the floor.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens here with Miller Grove, with Hunter on the bench, because she's the glue.
She's the one who handles the basketball primarily when there's a press.
So it could be interesting to see how they handle this question here about Southwest cap.
Third foul for Nicole Razor.
Now that's the third foul for Southwest to cap.
Miller Grove also with three coming up on 90 seconds to go, third quarter foul knocked out of bounds by razor.
It looks like it's going to stay with Miller Grove coming in Is Stockwell replacing Razor Tasha Thompson looking to inbound Tabitha fudge will receive fudge looking for help gives it back to Shore Rica Brown Brown guarded by Davion Wingate Thompson with Stockwell passed inside.
Ball was kicked by Nicole Martin, picked up by Stockwell Southwest to cab in transition left handed out of control.
But we're going to have a foul.
Looks like it might be on Weaver this summer.
And that's four on Weaver.
Now, I'll tell you what.
That's the thing that we all fear when Hunt without the game.
Don't have that ball here with that person that controls the floor a turnover transition opportunity results in the foul.
The Southwestern camp has a chance of getting to the lead before the fourth quarter starts.
Weaver out Survival set in in the pass inside Martin tries to drive and both utopia and bliss set end up over there.
Where are we going to get the foul on this one?
Looks like it's on you.
Duffy The that's the second on Utopia.
There's a superstar that young girl is She realizes how talented she can really be.
She can work hard all season, get her body and get everything better.
She's going to be pretty good.
A future ball knocked away that Miller Grove comes down the floor with it, looking for an entry pass as Thompson Yutopia looking for fudge and it's not going to happen.
Turnover again for Southwest to catch consecutive possessions.
It's not in the game.
It's not in the game.
If Southwest can realize that with one minute go in the third quarter, press, press, press and see if they can hear the coach from over there.
Stockwell Under a minute to go third quarter playing catch with Ariel Walker, three point attempt up and off the rim No Good by Davion Wingate, Miller Grove trying to come out with the basketball and they do Thompson will hang on to it for 40 seconds definitely not the shot that you want if you southwestern camp not your shot you want it now you come down and get a foul with 38 seconds to go in third quarter for fourth team foul for Southwest to cab, third foul on Ariel Walker.
So we're getting a lot of people in foul trouble here as we get to the final 8 minutes.
Thompson looking to drive under 30 seconds to go foul on the inside there and that's on Martin Well, the reason why you fell in now, you've got basically 8 minutes and 26 seconds to go in the entire game into your season.
So you leave it all on the court.
Both teams are playing very aggressive and very hard, and the officials are going to call a little bit tighter right here down the stretch.
Here's a look at the foul on the inside.
Will set goes up for the bucket.
Substitution in Coleman Ian Martin out for southwest a cab 26.4 seconds to go third quarter bill sets free throw rims out and another lane violation on Miller Grove Just be a little careless Just be a little careless.
I'll tell you when you got fresh people coming in that's really not been playing that much.
They got to understand time and score yet by 15 points.
Time and score.
Time and score under 20 seconds.
Now, third quarter, the arena at Gwinnett Center Girls class quite a championship Southwestern camp trying to get another bucket and close the gap for the end of three Jumper is no good Miller Grove comes out with the rebound all alone by herself Saric a brown easy layup Miss that could have been the dagger the Miller Grove needed that could have been the dagger that they needed didn't capitalize on that opportunity and I'll tell you this one is going to hurt.
This is the one that's really going to hurt Miller Grove Going into the fourth quarter.
You wanted those two points, 5.3 seconds to go, third quarter.
We'll see if that miss turns into anything.
Time running out.
Davion Wingate trying drive shot is no good, and that'll do it for three quarters here at Gwinnett.
24 minutes in the books, 8 minutes to go.
Miller crowd chasing after their ever girls championship.
They are up 15 as we head to the fourth here on the great GPB to dancing baby mama Welcome back to the arena Gwinnett Center the final 8 minutes to decide the girls quarter a champion is it going to be Southwest a cab?
The Southwest, the cab cheerleaders represent?
And I think that's what the kids say teenage these days.
And that is look at the Southwest DeKalb bench and that is the Southwest, a cab resume.
This is their fit.
Final Four.
They have a 19 game tournament winning streak dating back to that loss in the 2007 quarterfinals to Mary's 2008 2009.
They beat Fayette County back to back for those state championships, won in 2010 against Northwest.
Whitfield did not make the appearance in the 2011 game for a championship.
They're trying for their fourth and fifth years.
On the flip side, there is Miller Grove, and Renee Breedlove has been their coach ever since the program began.
First title game appearance, first Final Four appearance 44 and 14 the last two seasons, including 24 and four this year, their first region title in Region six.
Shawn came this season.
So Southwest to Cab makes it through.
The three seed Miller Grove is playing as the top seed out of Region six.
Let's go back to our teams there.
John Let's talk about it.
Milagro needed to control the tempo check.
They're doing that.
One of the rebounding battle check, 18 to 16 now they've got to finish out the fourth quarter.
They've got to stay focused and stay hungry and come out here with a flurry of turnovers.
The saw Kathy Walton trying to figure out how to fix a 15 point deficit.
Getting into the last eight and a three pointer will do it from Shayla Rivers.
If it had gone down rebound.
Take the Southwest.
A cab razor soca ball knocked out and Surekha Brown was heading all the way down the floor after the release and a timeout is called so they can think things through after that defensive said in the offensive said, I think John, we just had an indication of game.
You had three players from from Miller Grove on the floor and that loose ball all south where the cab southwest cab players standing up that kind of shows at the tail to love the game from right there there's Kathy Walton 34 and 15 first all time and the cat when 2012 last lost in the 27 quarter finals 19 playoff appearances 12 Sweet sixteens eight Elite eight five Final Fours and this is who's calling it I am Jon Nelson alongside the coach Sean Golden patrolling the sidelines this afternoon Lindsey Thiry we will be back for the girls five championship.
We will see you again tomorrow for the girls two a in the girls three eight championships and this is what we look like now scary.
Well by the time we get to 11:00 on Saturday night, we will be just as fresh.
Trust me, because this is an exciting hearing Gwinnett and in Macon Miller grow with the basketball trying to nurse a 15 point lead pass attempted by Brown looking for fudge picked up by southwest cab and the bucket is good by Jasmine Coleman to trim it to 38 to 27 and we got a whistle we had a delay of game and Hunt comes back in with her for fouls.
Shaka Brown is out so it's Thompson Hunt, Utopia Fudge and Sarai Bliss set for Miller Grove Pass inside the Fudge looking to kick it back out they'll reset with Thompson and Hunt we knew was a matter of time before Hunt gets back in the game because she is the glue, the person that can control the tempo and make the solid plays bucket up and in by Tabitha Fudge for her to make it 4025.
First time something like this happened when she was out.
Now she's back in just doing a good job of being aggressive, controlling the basketball.
Tabitha Fudge With 11 now 15 point advantage under 7 minutes to go regulation Miller Grove doubling any time they can.
Coleman Off the elbow off the back rim no good rebound Blissett Coleman fighting with her for it in the paint picked up Stockwell blocked by Blissett three bodies in there for southwest a cab trying to get the basket ball away and a foul call.
Look at the defense.
Look at the defense.
I'll tell you what.
Rebounding The basketball has been a strength.
Getting the blocked shots, limiting the second chance opportunity to southwest of cap Miller Grove is doing exactly what they needed to do defend rebound now you got to play smart foul on the call raiser her fourth for southwest to cap it can ill afford to lose her off the floor outlet clears and it almost was an over and back because Hunt didn't to the offensive zone when the pass came from Tabitha Fudge stepped off of Katie Hunt trying to plead her case.
12th turnover for Miller Grove, 13 for Southwest, a cab southwest to cabin bounce.
But the Miller Grove is now playing passive.
You still got to be able to attack, but you got to be smart in the way that you do it.
Sock Well, top of the key rivers baseline jumper off the rim no good rebound Tabitha fudge fudge trying to outlet finds hunt looking to go long but she'll jog up the floor instead Thompson's behind so you've got Thompson and Hunt talking over traffic screen fudge jumper is off by Hunt in the paint the rebound is by you Dough fire to Miller Grove players fighting for it.
Blissett and Thompson and Renee Breedlove calls a throw.
Very smart, very smart.
Get your team under control now.
This is what she needs to coast in 5 minutes and 47 seconds left in the game.
Let's coach this team, guys, to stay aggressive.
We got a but we still have to be smart be smart with the basketball.
Don't make your mistakes in bad shots and so you're up 15.
What's going on in that other huddle over there at southwest to cab what are they trying to do because time is getting short and time is also getting shorter?
Well, they're scrambling a little bit right now.
They want to press, press, press attack, try to score at any.
But again, I think they know in the back of their mind the game may be out of reach.
547 to determine who will get the championship it going to be southwest, the Cavs fourth in five years.
Is it going to be Miller Grove's first in this battle of DeKalb County and Region six cut off the inbound, directing traffic, looking for a clear out bounce pass inside to Pudge fudge steps that what you want it nice place you want it Ford should have brought that ball out utilize the clock the clock now becomes your friend issue Ally five and a half and counting still a 15 point Miller Grove advantage working the perimeter southwest to can't three pointer doesn't touch the rim out of bounds heads back over to Miller Grove unfortunately southwest to cap usually people shoot three points right now to try to get back in the game.
They're stepping up their strengths, shooting 31% for the field from the three point for the season steps Collins Archie Thompson back to Southwest who can Is it a case of thinking too much right now, you think?
I think it's a combination of everything.
I think some jitters may kick in Miller Grove, a Southwest cal.
I don't think they're talented enough, aggressive enough to really actually capitalize on mistakes.
And Miller goal was making two shots missed by Southwest, a camp rebound, Miller Grove Pass intercepted by Coleman.
And they're going to call a foul on Toshi Thompson as she was trying to throw the ball into the paint to get another bucket.
And it's Toshi Thompson's first.
That's the seventh on Miller Grove.
Coleman to the free throw line, the one and one.
She's got to knock both of these down.
Give Southwest a cab, give the team a chance.
Not these two down.
Coleman just under 50% in the air as a free throw shooter.
First time is up and uses the rim to her advantage gets a second Southwest cab get rid of set that press try to create some turnovers forced to tempo defensively Wingate in the Shays are out for southwest the cab looks like a loose 212 and they're going to call steps on hunt this time little grove look like they may be hand in the game on the silver platter but I don't think that Southwest Cab has the knives and the folks to actually eat that opportunity.
Turnovers in this quarter alone Miller Grove with five southwest to cab has not block on the inside by again and they're going to call another whistle and the south southwest kept doing what you need to do attack get to the free throw line any time you can score without time.
Got it off the clock.
That's a positive.
Again, Southwest can make these free throws cut into the league.
Net for Utopia's third first free throw up in in down to 12 now at 4028 down to 11 and there's a 1 to 2.
Press a little help to go one, three, one crosses easily over and back and then think about the keys We talked about the third P state focus for the entire game, but three quarters, Miller Grove is at play Southwest again.
But now they got to stay focused for the entire game and we had almost seen that happen on a couple of different occasions with Miller Grove or the outlet pass coming backwards to reset almost wasn't over and back and it finally did happen on that particular opportunity.
In going into the fourth quarter, these girls, Miller Grove, felt they had it in hand, so they relax.
Mentally.
You have to stay focused.
Good players know how to finish and start games, start the game well, but you got to finish the game even better.
We'll talk about something that's going to be even better as we get into the night here at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, GPB Sports, Mark Harmon and Herb White will be center court, center stage during the halftime of the five boys game with the top three dunkers in the state of Georgia voted by you, the fans who believe in higher elevation, you voted it online.
Now you can see them live in action with their high flying dunks.
It's the GPB sports AJC Slam Dunk exhibition at halftime of the five eight boys game tonight right here on the great GPB.
Talk about great we've got great fan support here from Southwest the cab making their way down from Panthers Ville area and the Cab County working their way up here to Gwinnett Center to cheer on their teams not once but twice the follow up.
And that was almost over and back.
And it happened right in front of us.
Very close.
Very close.
Both teams got it.
Just tighten up a little bit and finish out this game strong for 35 and counting.
Regulation three point attempt rivers off the back of the rim no good into the rebound for Miller Grove it's Katie Hunt scramble on the floor Coleman going after it you dope he has got it she's double team trying to kick it back to haunt Hunt to Weaver and Tasha Thompson finally clears for Miller Grove Patience You got to learn how to meet your passes, cut down the passing lane, shorten that.
Let's be strong with the ball hunt little lazy with the basketball stolen from behind, Martin tries to go for the layup doesn't fall, but she gets the foul.
She came out with the turnover, she forced the turnover defensively, got a chance to come back.
Here she is clutch but she's got to sneak up.
Got the deflection now she's got to finish this.
I tell you what, she's going to be so good.
So special.
But the lack of strength, she's just a freshman.
She's 15 years old.
She's going to get better.
Fourth foul on Nippy.
You go for your first free throw falls off.
I honestly think fatigue is kind of kicked in a little bit to her.
She had a great game yesterday for us, but I think today she just can't put it up back to, back that type of performance.
Second free throw up and in it's down to ten as we're halfway home.
Fourth quarter for southwest to cap bodies in four pressing stolen off the rim No good rebound razor with the follow airball picked up by you Duffy of Miller Grove Coleman in there with Martin trying to get the ball away and they call a foul but we've got a game going on I mean you can hear the fans getting into it, the excitement.
People are starting to get the answer because the men's game boys game is next.
But again, Milagro got to protect the basketball.
Protect the basketball.
Now there's these free throws and try to stand with the league.
Here's your replay.
Look at it right here.
Toshi Thompson.
One, two different bodies in there.
There's Rivers Martin looking for it, tries to get it off the window and it doesn't fall before the foul.
We come back to the other end and it's you.
Duffy has turned eight Miller Grove turnovers to none for Southwest DeKalb in the fourth quarter.
First free throw, no good There's a girl getting the rebound She's in every play It was fourth quarter ten point game 340 and counting three point attempt rivers off the rim no good gets her own rebound tries to bring it back out to reset intercepted by Tabitha Fudge three southwest to cap bodies crashing it gets back to rivers and we're going to call a foul again we should get used to high pitched noises in this fourth quarter because we're possibly going to hear that whistle a lot.
3 minutes and 31 seconds left to go.
And Miller Grove just being helter skelter out here.
They've got to really control the ball.
And Hunt's got it.
She's got to get in, hit the basketball get it to our hands and slow down.
Shayla Rivers to the line for Southwest to catch 57% from the line this season.
First free throw nine point game and it's the first assignment get it to under ten now Tim Rivers get the back end to cut it to eight Free throw is good eight point game 4030 to Southwest The cab continues to press Southwest camp on an 801 for bodies once again pressing after the basketball Miller Grove clears half court punt looking inside finds Weaver misses Bunny Budge misses her follow out of bounds.
Looks like it's going to stay with Miller grow post doing chores there on the right.
She came down didn't come to a complete jump stop close to a chance, but they've got to finish those hits.
The time that the tough players to step up to the plate and finish those easy baskets.
Who's Cathie Walton looking on, trying to get back from a 16 point deficit ball knocked out of bounds by Stockwell as the pass was heading for Utopia.
The excitement of this being the first chance to win a state championship.
I think they're asking now, playing not to lose the game.
You've got to be confident enough in your skills, ability to play tough the entire entire game.
HUNT two.
THOMPSON Inside.
Tabitha Fudge spinning on.
Coleman off the window.
No good Rebound.
WEAVER Got it.
Count it.
There she goes.
She's been that entire night underneath the basket.
And when Opportunities Weaver has been the one that's helped this team in a good position today there's first the left hand miss but Weaver right here for the layup take a look from the back There you go.
Is that position keeping it ball high get a chance for two and one and see if she gets the end one off the back of the rim No good rebound Coleman back up to ten.
Coming up on 3 minutes to go regulation time at the arena at center three point attempt Rivers looks like it was partially deflected it went in anyway that's how it works.
He set it up up tonight for at least a few to go in.
Now we've got a tight one press again bodies on the floor picked up by Martin looking for razor to hard looking to dribble out of traffic never going to call a charge now here's where the monster comes out here's where the most to come out.
Halloween time now for Bill to go, But that's her fifth foul.
That's her fifth foul.
Hudspeth foul.
Now, they don't have a ball handler in the game, just not understanding when to slow down.
Take the time she pushed off with the left arm.
Good defense by South Christi camp unfortunately clutch dunk for the night that's the fit for Katie Hunt.
So now the lineup is going to look a little different.
Brown in the ball game three point attempt is no good.
So now MG is going to have to go a little smaller, you know, fire trying to get up to Brown wide open under the paint.
Finally realize that Fudge had Weaver and she pulls it back out.
Maybe the best thing does happened to go girl may have been the best thing to happen to Milagros Learn how to protect the ball and you use the clock seven point game ball deflected out of bounds again stays with Miller throw 40 to 35 Lindsey Thiry from the sideline saying that coach Greenlaw told the Miller grow players of the pressure is on him at the beginning of the half and don't force anything so how much have they been forcing?
So how much does Miller drop in forcing that southwest the camp has been having to defend?
I tell you what, Miller Grove, this entire second half has forced the tempo.
Instead of letting the game come to them like they did at the beginning of the game.
They're trying to force it.
They're trying to get to the state championship, trying to get to the goal instead of playing and let it come to you.
Time out on the floor.
206 to go regulation with a seven point game now Southwest to cap going for that fourth championship in five years.
Here's how they got to this point.
That's Kathy Walton back in 2008.
And there's Alondra Rivers, older sister of Shayla, knocking down the three that's win one over Fayette County.
They got the second win over Fayette County in 2009, then beating Northwest Whitfield in 2010 on this very floor, Alondra Rivers coast to coast a two that's the three titles.
Kathy Walton got her three in a row and she's trying to chase after number four today.
I tell you what, she's created a dynasty of the southwest, the cat she knows how to coach.
But boy, Paula, she's got the community behind her.
And when you coach and you try to get after that, you try to go after the big cup, you try to win the state championship, it takes a program.
The program includes the teachers, the coaches, the students.
Everybody wants to win the Cup.
Gary Peacock Getting down and dirty to get that shot for us.
So Kathy Walton's been here down seven with 2 minutes and we knew that in the second half.
There's your scoring run, 13 to 16 in a three minute period to get to this point.
More groves one of two from the floor southwest a cap three of corner is a big free throws First free throw up good, big free throws.
This is when people stand up, step up to the plate and really knock down those those those shots.
BROWN Second good coming up big in this season listen to 25% free throws shooter She's four for four on the day 2 minutes to go regulation Miller Grove up nine still playing pressure defense against Southwest A can I tell you what they did they changed it up they came up with the pressure coming up that's what's going to win.
That's exactly what's going to win Miller Grove this championship that right there.
Brown is doing a good job of being tenacious, being aggressive, and whatever it takes, you've got to inside sacrifice herself to get it done.
Look at good defensive pressure, good steal, good deflection.
And more importantly, is Kevin Barnes.
Okay, our chief statistician.
Look at that right there, clearing the tables in the computers, Kevin Barnes ducking it like anybody's business.
Still got to move first free throw up off the rim a minute, 54 to go in the game Southwest to cap Don't worry about a three try to get the easy basket attack the rim second free throw Got it Miller Grove back up to ten coming up on a minute 50 intercepted knocked around the basket No good pick back up by southwest a cab helter skelter here in the last 2 minutes numbers all for three off the back of the rim No good ball bouncing out of bounds it goes to KG not what you need if you're southwestern camp why take the three this multiple possession game Attack the rim attack to attack the rim.
That's all you need to do.
Down to 100 seconds.
Miller Grove up ten 4535 southwest to camp putting four in the fourth court to pressure intercepted razor comes up with it Rivers for three off the rim at the backboard no good too much involved Tashi Thompson looking for help off the double team Utopia now has it they cleared of the frontcourt he Surekha Brown will give it to Thompson they call over and back It was over the back it was over the back clearly.
Good call by the official official.
It was Renee Breedlove up 1077 seconds away from the school's first ever state title game.
They've got to finish the game Rivers to sock while soccer looking to drive loses the handle, kicks it back out thinks about the three from layup razor blocked again by Weaver that's the MVP for tonight's contest I'll tell you what she's done a great job of defending but blocking shots and forcing the turnovers.
Miller Grove content to work the perimeter.
Right now.
We are under a minute.
Thompson in her hands pocket picked by Rivers.
Easy to Cathie Walton calls a timeout with 45 and a half to go It's down eight since the SEC can't relax late games situations you cannot relax.
You can't get caught up in the excitement of the opportunity.
So now you're in each huddle.
What are you telling folks right now?
Well, southwest of camp, we're going to press, we're going to press, we're going to foul.
We're going to look for the free throw as soon as the foul that's fouled the first person that we get the ball to.
But go for the steal first.
Now, you, Milagro, Milagro, you want to get the ball in, You don't need a five second opportunity to turn the ball over.
You want to get the ball and protect the ball.
And if you have to hold it, hold it for 10 seconds, but then utilize the top with you to take it down.
This can't be Walton.
Rene Breedlove.
Breedlove, the only coach the MG program has ever had.
105 and 73.
They played four games in their first season, first full varsity in two and two eight seasons at Miller GROSS School opened in 2005 Southwest to Gap down eight to baby on a 16 to 4 one to get us to this .8.
Miller Grove Advantage 45 and a half to go regulation is also Weaver you delphia Brown fudge for Miller brother and nephew know for you trying to dribble down court ball knocked out of her hands looks like a foul on the Cole Martin it's a great it's a bad opportunity because that was the captain should have fouled when the ball initially came in inbounds now way over the head of Thompson Brown was trying to keep it around the perimeter, turned over again in the back court sock rivers razor with it now gives to Coleman and the Martin number 23 three pointer it sent by Martin partially blocked picked up by Brown with 23 seconds and there's razor fouling You don't fire at 21.2.
Miller Grove has 12 turnovers this quarter.
I tell you what, just not protecting the basketball.
Those girls really got relaxed looking at the score, Boy, start here.
The fans chant and get caught up into the excitement.
Champions finish off the game.
Let's see if they can do that at 20 1.28. advantage.
So it's a three possession game into the ballgame after Razor picks up her fifth foul is and win Wingate So the first free throw for you go fire is up off the back of the rim Still an eight point game You can't relax you cannot relax.
Looking at three point shooting softball 25%.
Rivers 25%.
Jasmine Coleman with 30%.
33. shooter nine point game 4637.
Noah Grove still going to press off the inbound inbound to Coleman, almost knocked away by Tashi Thompson shielded now the outlet up the floor 14 got to get off a shot here off the offer almost the backboard didn't hit anything but it's going to stay with Southwest to cap with 7.7 to go with the pressure that time force out with the cap and take that back shot.
And I tell you works on this up.
We got a new state champion Coleman inside gets the 25. yes and they call a timeout with 4.0 remaining 4 seconds even on the clock seven point game Southwest to cap with the timeout right there since the summer and Miller Groves and their fans they can feel this first championship for the women's team they can I tell you wouldn't hats off to those young girls I know you got 4 seconds left in the game, but we feel the games in hand.
Miller Grove now put themselves in what the boys have done.
The boys have gone to the championship one or two years in a row now.
The girls got a chance to hang a bend in the school.
There it is.
You can kind of sense that they're the fans.
They're feeling the first one.
They're hoping for another one after this.
When they face the Southwest, a Cowboys team in the Games coming up right here on GPB.
This is the first of 11 championship games you're going to see in about a 36 hour period starting 3:00 this afternoon, finishing up about 11:00 tomorrow night at the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center plex.
And think about what Rene Breedlove has been able to do with this program from day one.
I tell you what, just it takes a whole community to win a championship.
And you talk about that and those Breedlove dipping hats off to her and her program with these young girls really coming in here and doing good job today and trying to go for the home run ball.
Was Tabitha Fudge knocked back out of bounds by Nicole Martin?
Half a second off the clock there and try to load it up one more time.
Inbound tough D Coleman with the foul at 1.8 but they're going to call steps instead.
So we're down to 1.8.
And the seven point lead shot thought about not going to happen.
And Miller Grove gets their first quarter state championship, 30 in this game tied at five.
Sean it was dominance for Miller Grove.
Congratulations to Miller Grove congratulations Look at it.
Celebrating the first victory for the girls state championship.
Big day for Weaver with 16 fudge had 11 dominant performance from Miller Grove.
They get their first championship.
First championship is in the books here at the arena at Gwinnett Center.
When we come back, it will be the first trophy presentation of the weekend and it's going to the Cab County right here on GPB.
All right.
Welcome back to the GHC basketball Championships right here on GPB.
I'm Jackie Britton, and we just watched history in the making as Miller Grove took the championship title over Southwest DeKalb.
We've got a lot more coming your way, including a slam dunk preview and an interview with a star from the Atlanta dream.
All that and more is coming right this way.
But first, let's kick things off with our social media hits.
We have a couple of comments online.
We have Mr. Armstrong, who is watching from Tacoma, Washington, who is pulling for Miller Grove.
His cousin is number 22, Tasha Thompson.
But now we'll send that over to Mark Harmon.
Terrific way to tip off championship weekend.
But I thought I said it was like bulked up.
Just a terrific way to tip off championship weekend in the great great championship Miller coming out on top and with me now Ernie Yarbrough of the USA for the presentation of the championship trophy.
Thank you.
And we are pleased to have Georgia Farm Bureau as our presenting sponsor for the championships.
We're always to have them and we're awful proud of the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines for their championship.
Come on up here, coach and players, come on up.
Get your trophy.
You earned it, Coach.
Congratulations very much.
Tell us what it means to you to win this championship.
The first in Girls Miller Grove history.
a big win for us.
We've been working on this since August of last year and we knew it was going to come to this.
I was playing great defense and that's what got it for us today.
And this is our only senior.
We to do it for her and we dedicate it to our assistant coach this year.
Staff of the Fudge, the only senior big seniors smile.
What does it mean to go out on top?
It means so much to me and my team fought for me and we came out victorious.
And I think all of them the it was a very tough game back and forth the entire way they came at you hard there in the fourth quarter showed a lot of resolve by your team, right?
We stayed.
We kept our composure.
That's all we had to do.
We told them we had to lead the entire time.
There's no reason to rush for any shots.
They were playing from behind and we weren't.
So just continue to take care of ball.
All right, Curls are Weaver, Where are you?
Come over here.
Come over here.
You did a fantastic job out there.
Talk about give this big smile because you've got a great smile.
Talk about what this win means for Miller Grove.
This one means so much.
You've been working the entire season, working hard in practice, running our sprints, everything we can to get to this point.
And we finally got it.
So thanks to Coach Breedlove, I tell you, congratulations on the course.
You've got the boys game coming up next.
Going for four in a row.
Yeah.
And they're going to get it right?
