And by viewers like you.
Live from the Arena at Gwinnett Center, it's GHC State Championship basketball, all as the Saints highest golden Lions take on the Mary's four Eagles in Game one here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Hello, everyone, and welcome Dave Gardner alongside both hockey and boy, I tell you what, you look excited and why not?
We've got a great matchup matchup here to kick off tell you weekend probably the best matchup we could expect all year on the final day of the year.
These two teams as the crow flies just a couple miles apart in Atlanta and a great, great rivalry going back many, many years.
And they're led at least Saint Pius is by Kelly Kane, big number 52.
She's a65 junior and she is all everything.
She's an aircraft carrier in the paint, averaging 20 points, 13 boards and five blocks.
She has really something impressive numbers and just a junior being recruited by almost every major college certainly says something about her a lot of division one prospects this weekend here at the arena there's you get to look at the starting lineup there again Toles just a freshman, Tate Davidson, Fleming and of course, Kelly Kane rounding out the starting five for Saint Pius, a very, very strong team on the boards.
They can pretty much play with any kind of tempo, whether you want to run the ball, whether you want to try to post up, they can pretty much hang with you anyway.
Yeah.
And what's unusual for Marist is they get to play Kelly Kane straight up.
They have a62 girl in Drey Mingo themselves, so they don't have to double team and they can play the little more honest.
And even though Drey Mingo will play her, Kelly Kane will not play her.
She'll play Federica miller Very good.
Let's talk a little bit about Mary's, because they come in here, tell you what number one most of the year, especially after beating Pius early in the year in there, you get a look bow at Mingo the player we're just talking 14 points, five boards, they're shooting 46%.
And she's tough.
Absolutely.
Of course, Mingo just a junior as well.
It's going to be fun to watch her in Kane matchup all day long.
Rebounding, I think, will certainly be a key for these players down the stretch.
Of course, the starting five for the Lady Eagles again, McGirt is a junior averaging 11.7, as you see there.
I really expect her to step up, have a big game today.
Gleason, Davis, Miller and again, Mingo rounding out the five there.
Mingo at six foot two.
Of course, Coach Kim Hickson is the head coach for Mary's, a pair of four year head coaches going up against each other today.
Stephanie Dunn, of course, at Saint Pius six and four Mary's.
And these two certainly have a history against each other.
Yeah.
Stephanie Dunn played at Georgia, has got a lot of routes her husband Keith played for Shorter.
So this is a group that really comes in here wanting to get one another.
It's the most, I don't want to say bitter rival.
It's a friendly rivalry, but a great rivalry nonetheless.
They're going to look at Coach Dunn on the left.
They're on your picture, Coach Hicks.
And of course, having the pre-game meeting here with our officials today and a good crowd on hand here.
I know a lot of folks were wondering with the early start whether or not this place would be packed out.
But I think the atmosphere will certainly be rocking anytime you put these two together.
As you get a look at Dunn right there, fourth year at St Pius, a 109 victories for the head coach.
Only problem for Marist is they're on spring break and their kids will not be here.
They're watching on from Florida and Hawaii, all kinds of places like that say Pius will be here in droves and Coach Hicks and of course as we mentioned, a four year coach.
There are 88 and 24.
You talk about the two winning percentages from these two coaches right here should make for a fun game.
But I'm kind of curious to see how they're going to line up against each other.
One thing that you talked about, though, was the fact that St Pius as a team, you know, they've had to double, you know, everybody's had to double team Kelly Kane all year long.
Marist they may try to go man with Mingo.
That's going to be really interesting.
Yeah.
Dray Mingo is going to play.
She's played three times this year.
In fact, Marist holds a slim lead in the series.
They've won two Marist, as was one one, I should say.
St Pius holds the lead, but they're going to play her even up with Great Mingo.
Six, five, four, six two.
Something's got to give.
I'm also looking forward to see a freshman Morgan Toles there in the starting lineup for Saint Pius.
Again, a lot of upperclassmen there, but some younger players contributing right off the bat for coach Stephanie Dunn.
And that Golden Lion program, 13 straight wins for Pius only two losses on the year.
Tucker and Mary's for those two.
Mary's with just two losses, both against St Pius an excellent match up here indeed, as the Golden Lions and Lady Eagles go at it, let's throw it courtside to our announcer, Dr. David Witherow of Chatsworth, Georgia, said.
There are six five, six, three, 634, six kids.
All right, There you have it.
Two teams from six quarter, both from DeKalb, but only one will emerge as a state championship here.
We'll have the tip off coming up in St Pius Golden Lions and Mary's for Eagles when we return from the arena at that center this let's get started here.
Let's start.
Even after 37 years, it's still fresh to a crossroads.
my cream Rocks first supergroup is back.

And I'd like to suggest to you that inspiration is not something that comes and goes.
This is a whole new look at inspiration.

The legends of 1950s and early sixties Pop returned to the PBS stage in an all new My Music special to spend one night live in our home Wednesday at 730 on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station on Saint Pius, and Mary is set to tangle.
Let's throw it courtside of the other member of our team, Lisa Wiese.
Thanks, Dave.
I want to talk about old fashioned bitter rivals.
There's no better rivals in Saint Mary's and Pius.
These two teams have been going head to head since 1958, when Saint Pius was born.
Now, it doesn't matter if it's athletics or academics, the debate teams going head to head or the annual fish bowl, which takes place every year on the gridiron where the winner gets bragging rights for a year and the coveted trophy.
Now, this is definitely a rivalry that is driven by pride and built on respect.
Dave, back to you.
All right, Lisa, sounds good.
I think what caught the paper was it doesn't matter if these two were playing chess against each other, the atmosphere would be rocket in the merest lady worry those will open up the ball game on offense.
As you see the officials Melissa Lewis, Carrie Fisher and Jamie Howell working today's 28 girls match up and right off the bat, tough shot and rebound by Kelly Kane, making her presence felt inside.
But that's Stephanie Davis who put up those shots of Mario.
She's a four year starter for them at point guard and she really runs the show.
And from the opening tip, I mean, everybody was anticipating that with Kane and Mingo battling underneath and there's been getting the first down and a great entry pass and you see how high they can make that pass.
Kelly Kane goes up and gets it and then finishes.
And I don't think there's any secret what St Pius is going to do today.
They're going to work the ball inside of their six foot five JR Big time defense open shot right here from the outside is off the mark by McGirt out of bounds.
It will stay with the Lady Eagles.
Andrea McGirt is averaging over a dozen points a game this year as well.
She's another big player number ten for Mary's Look for her to shoot the ball a lot today.
Play off the inbound here.
McGirt will get it into Mingo up top back down in the corner here again to nothing.
The golden lions with the early lead second trip to the semis in three years for Saint Pius.
Meanwhile, Mary's hunting their first state championship and the shot is off the rim back time by Miller and taken down by Foles, the freshman Morgan Toles feeding Kane inside post up off the glass won't get the shot to go but she will go to the line.
And that's one thing that the lady Eagles are going have to work on defensively is try to try to get a body on her outside of the paint.
Well, they're making the entry so easy that they may have to go to a double team situation because that was the point blank shot that she had and quite frankly, should have made.
They killed Kane, still young, still growing, still gaining strength.
And by next year when she's senior, you can imagine how formidable she will be in there, as if she and she is already 26 points, ten blocks on the year.
That's quite an average.
If there is a weakness, it's right here at the free throw line.
45%, as we saw, missed the first one, second one also rims in and out of there but kept alive on the board shot wouldn't quite go through Jane Fleming ball loose Fleming fighting for it but her foot was on the line.
It'll go back to Mary's.
They've got her ball Back with you.
Lisa Reese, courtside with us today.
Again, quality girls championship action live from the Arena, Antoinette Center.
Could she excuse me, do a little bit of backboard pressure right there.
Now, Mary's will bring it up.
The Lady Eagles at 30 and two overall, a great three point shot is short and off the mark that time by Gleeson who's been pretty consistent here in the postseason Big blocked from behind by Kane She's averaging five a game and that time from behind Wow great penetration baseline drive and you can see Kelly Kane races a lot of mistakes falls that freshman off the pick from Kane and outside shot is off the mark The offensive board will quite go there and ripped away from Mingo it looks like and a foul going to be called on the Golden Lions foul call by Melissa Lewis.
She's working with Terry Pierre and Jamie.
How are the officials for today's game?
Check out that block And that was indeed a great shot right there.
Kelly changes messenger and waited for it.
Good camerawork, indeed on that baseline and what a move right there.
And another block kept alive though as Miller puts up another and misses though and a great save by Kane into the hands of her teammate Davidson and cleared out of there.
So up and down the floor here in the beginning both teams can run even with that size.
They get up down the floor.
Well, good, feed up and in for a change.
She's got two more those James Fleming with the assist so a four nothing safe bias lead here 3 minutes into the contest Miller with it up top trying to feed it inside to Mingo You see Kelly Kane doesn't guard Dray Mingo she takes better from Miller and a time out going to be called on the floor a 32nd time out by Coach Kim Hickson and the Lady Eagles of Mary's trying to settle into a little bit of a rhythm here, have been unable to find the offense.
Still coming up live at 5 p.m., it's the Georgia wheelchair basketball championship between the Atlanta Wolfpack and the West Georgia Wolverines.
This championship is integrated into the state high school basketball championships by the American Association of Adaptive Sports Programs and the Georgia High School Association.
Again, coming up at 5 p.m. later today here on GPB Live.
And certainly looking forward to that one.
Our third year of televising the championship, very well-received and certainly looking forward to that one later on this afternoon.
Coming back to action here after the 32nd time out by Coach Kim Hickson, a four point St Pius lead.
Despite both teams playing each other as many times as they have, they appear to kind of be feeling each other out here a little bit in the early going.
Well, yeah, and Tiffany trying to get the steal their 23 Morgan Coles bulls with the drive right there and the freshman has her first bucket and it's a six nothing golden line lead quickly down on the other end and offense it looks like going back the other way.
Nice job right there by Toles who's kept her footing and what a way for the freshman to hang in there.
And that's a big shot to take two from Drey Mingo backcourt pressure right here and ripped away right there.
Nice job by the Lady Eagles.
Again, that was McGirt who ripped it away but could not quite get the shot to go.
And Kelly Kane limits Mary's to one opportunity.
Nice drive inside their shot wouldn't quite go.
Kane on the follow wouldn't go by their own shot.
Still go block down by Mingo second and third opportunities but state bias unable to capitalize quickly down on the other end that one wouldn't go for Tiffany Davis and there's a lid on the bucket right now.
They had a great change of speed.
You see her accelerate when she got in the paint, gave us a little hesitation move and then finished at the basket.
Of course, it didn't go, by the way.
Kelly Kane has had four put back so far that she's missed.
She's got to pay more attention to that.
She's got to be a little more solid, a little more.
You just got to be stronger on those put backs.
They're going to look at tools, numbers, eight points, two rebounds, little over two assists on the year, freshman again at the fast drive here, but unable to hit the free throw right there say bias.
Not really a strong free throw shooting team very smaller off the bench has one of the better percentages but among the starters Taylor Davidson at 63% is pretty much tops on the team Jason Davis coming in the game for Mary's and so one of two on that trip for Morgan Falls it's a seven nothing state biased lead here with 337 left in the opening period they've got gonna bow back with you from the arena Gwinnett Center What a girls action the first state championship of the week You face it Davis knocked away they were good defense both teams really pride themselves on great defense and what's interesting they're both allowing right around 36 to 38 points a game offensively the right is 60.
So on paper identical as you see the field goal scorer here say biased three of ten Marist without so far both of them are mostly baseline a baseline full court pressure defensive teams and as you said Dave they take great pride three point shot is off the front of the iron and taken down by Chris to take a shot from Tiffany Davis.
So these two teams combined for some offense, but so far it's been a defensive battle here and another whistle looks like they're going to call Davis for that one.
Now, foul on Tiffany Davis reaching instead of moving her feet.
Experts say Pines, of course, in the six quarter championship, defeated Mary's in overtime of that one, just one of two losses on the year for the Warriors.
The other one also coming to Saint Pius during the regular season, although Marist did beat Sei Pines as well.
So both teams have really traded punches throughout the year.
And who would have thought it would have come right down to the very last game of the season for these 23. shot is here for Christine Gleason.
That time Kristen Leeson set her feet, her last three pointer.
She didn't she just threw it up there.
Gleason averaging nine points a game.
She's a six footer as well and a jump off ball in an ace.
Both teams fighting for it in there.
That was Kristen Tate with the drive.
And I'll tell you what, Saint Peter's missing a lot of chippies off the inbound here is we take another good play, great play, great inside Stewart after the high post to Kelly Kane and the right back to the inbound it Tate with the bucket there on that last trip for bison it's a93 advantage here with the back up six 2 minutes left in a fast and furious first quarter here at the arena Gleason off the dribble inside there Kane may have got a fingertip on that ball and knocked it away and now falls.
The freshman quickly back on the other end will pull out and do the smart thing.
That's the way to pull it out.
Nothing there.
That's a veteran point.
Go inside.
Jane Fleming puts it up and in, said veteran point guard.
She's a freshman at Morgan and Fleming with her first bucket of the afternoon, a 510 senior stretches the lead to eight good opportunity for same post as Draymond goes.
Not in there first, Mary's missed the postseason last year, losing a heartbreaker in the region tournament.
There's another block right there by Kane, but she's got at least three or four here in this first quarter.
Both.
She's got three so far averaging five blocks.
Again, she's almost there already.
See you move a seat there.
That was great.
Center the three Kristen Nash will step into the lineup for the quarter Lions there as you see it.
Erica miller to Stephanie Dunn.
She played at Georgia and she's done a great job with this state post one that was knocked away.
Turnover right there off the glass wouldn't quite go the rebound and the follow by McGirt is up and in the third with the left hand figures first points 11 five advantage 41.1 on the clock here and this crowd is fired up.
They have been from the opening tip near turnover right there.
Again, Nash, another freshman wearing number three for Saint Pius.
The end of the lineup.
That's Taylor Davidson with the basketball looking inside that one knocked away though Nice job by Miller who got a hand on it save right there by Tasia Davis.
They rush it down they've got a five on four the locked out there Again Tiffany Davis with the defense.
You can see how Marist has picked up the notch defensively in the last two sequences.
They're all over the place.
They're getting in passing lanes and knocking blows away.
The hands are very fast.
Molly McCarthy inside there, freshman puts it up and in right there, Nash with her first bucket time winding down here, 2 seconds, first quarter that was knocked away, no whistle and that'll do it.
And what a first quarter by the Saint bias Golden Lions who will in the first 8 minutes with a 13 five advantage over their rivals from Mary's looks like a timeout and be right back for the number two coming your way from the arena Gwinnett Center the Parkview center by giving the Raiders their second title.
And I'd like to suggest to you that inspiration is not something that comes and goes.

The legends of 1950s and early sixties Pop returned to the PBS stage in an all new My Music special to spend one night in our old Wednesday at 730 on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station is St Pius, up 13 five over merriest as we get set for second quarter action here live from the arena Gwinnett Center Dave Garner Bobak, with the championship action right here and I tell you what, two teams very familiar familiar with each other throughout the season.
But at St Pius who wins round one?
Both Yeah, absolutely.
In that first.
And I'll tell you what, Maurice has got a long road back down 13th Ray Mingo, their horse is on the bench, had three fouls in the first 4 minutes, so that's bad luck for them.
Frazier Davis in the lineup handling the dribble right now up top being worked on by Kristen Nash They give right there the kick out good look from the outside but that shot is too strong and off the mark by Grace Thornton, a six foot senior, kept alive low inside there off the iron and brought down by the golden Lion St Pius off and running again.
Morgan Toles swings it out.
Great little move right there with that shot.
Too strong.
I was just watching too.
He can run the floor.
He's got a great gait.
She runs well.
She runs like an athlete.
She is really going to be something.
Mariska, again, looking for a little bit of offense here, as you mentioned, averaging 60 points a game.
Justine Gleason hit that big three point shot there in that first quarter and there's a nice ball off the glass right there by T.J. Davis.
Daisy Davis came into the game and she's only five five and that was a great drive and a six point game.
Back on the other end here, we kick out travel, going to call it right here on tape.
And we're talking about Kelly Kane.
She had four points in that first quarter.
This see, Coach Dunn, of course, came broke her kneecap in the playoffs last year.
And of course, Saint Pius lost their last game.
So it's no wonder how big she is to this state by his team.
Yeah.
You know, interesting about Coach Dunn.
She had a little daughter born two years ago during the Mary's game, not at courtside, but it was during the games and that was the last time they did that.
Turkey did.
Why are they going to away that off, though?
I'm going to call traveling right there and I say nice idea by tape, but took one too many steps traveling and seeing where in the finish.
Is that what they were saying?
Yes.
Well, I didn't see that for the 2014.
For me in too many too much NBA in major college basketball.
Exactly.
You can pretty much take as many steps as you want from the elbow.
They're in the NBA.
They're going to look at the turnover picture.
Saint Pius was seven, Mary's with five here so far in this first half.
The Lady Eagles with the basketball here.
Another good kick out there they'll swing it back up top for the drive their little floater wouldn't go through.
Davis kept alive as he follows his own shot Good ball, good ball movement, great hustle.
And as far Davis off the dribble left hand wouldn't quite go and brought down by fade and you're not going to get a lot of second and third opportunities against the state 5 to 1 four and 11 to convert.
No they know the pass too high too hard right off of Fleming's fingertips there the secret takes and the First Lady Eagles.
Their motto all year long has been All it takes is all you've got.
That's what I get every day, Damian.
All I can do.
How?
Add 10% every night.
I tell you what, all it takes is all you've got When you go.
As I mentioned, Mary's beat so fast during the season to become the number one team and get a thrive right there too strong.
Mark by Davis and you're travel right there take it got away with it and our blocking foul underneath Mario two shots now for Morgan told us he was called to the line and Morgan again another hesitation he's really got that he has to take another look at the foul right here he comes here and just they play pretty tricky for a freshman.
She's really a sophisticated player at the point position.
So back of the line.
It's so on the first two of three on the afternoon, GMAC will step in for Mary's Galaxy, a57 sophomore.
Now, as you get a look at polls again today, four points and rebounds, make it two of two on that trip right there for Morgan Toys.
And the freshman has taken over the team high for safe byes with five points.
There you see the crowd at the house here and there might be a chip on by a shoulder coming into this game.
They've beaten Mary's twice this year, but Mary's comes in as the number one team.
Yeah, Really?
Something.
Those are the only two losses for the Golden lion ladies on the year.
Both teams with identical 30 and two records and a big block right there by Gainey comes up with another.
He had three in that first quarter alone and wow defense right there it will stay with Saint Pius did a great job underneath great hustle.
No no man Jamie Maxey number 11, mixing it up in there.
By the way, those two losses for Saint Pius came in the same week it was two Marist.
And also to take care of region six teams there finally caught on great storytelling.
The six footer matching up against the six five Kelly Kane It that's done looking on That's a great thing again just a June you talk about the college prospects that are in the building this weekend and 13 is certainly one gets the wall she's got a pretty good chance she should be a better free throw shooting skid.
It just blew up there with windmill spin and let that thing bounce around like it just gave this game's numbers five points, eight rebounds already for the junior.
Well, they go two of two for Kelly.
She's got six.
But Erica miller, the sophomore back of the lineup for Marist, a ten point advantage for Saint Pius here in quarter number two.
Tiffany Davis running the point McGirt shooter at 14 and round one to get southwest to cap 20 Atlantic against Northwest good field is Miller off the drive couldn't get it to go nice also there though by Gleason it looks like he kept it alive and Davis will reset up top for the lady warriors say bias 2004 state champs a quarter final team last year it fell just short of making it back to the Saints setting that one off the mark.
And I'll tell you what, Mary's just having a tough shooting first.
After that take it easy thing to do.
Yeah.
They can't.
I'll tell you what, both these coaches really done a great job of it, both running precise offensive sets.
There's Kelly Kane finishing underneath.
But how do you guard against that?
I'll tell you in this way most teams double team her and without Dwayne Mingo in the game which Marist wanted to do, they wanted to play her straight up with three Mingo Strong girls, six two.
They're in trouble.
She's got three fouls, though.
Credit for Miller.
She's sophomores.
We take another look at here.
She's doing all she can inside against Kane.
But again, came with that six foot five frame is just too much in the paint there.
And so far it's the golden lion crowd with plenty to celebrate here in this first half.
Their lead at 19 seven, as you see the 337 on the clock here, Mary's that pretty good crowd, even though everybody's on spring break.
Let's take a look at some of Kelly Kane's a work there's a block right there might have been a little bit of a foul.
There's two blocks from behind on the baseline.
There it is coming outside to the top of the key.
There's another block and excellent first half, four blocks for Kelly Kane averaging five a game as we talk about 20 points a game, 14 rebounds as we showed you while ago.
I think she already had eight boards here in this first half as she's well on pace to do that.
It even better imagine when she really starts to mature physically and gets off her feet, Wow, she's going to be an imposing defensive presence.
A good look at being right there with eight boards this afternoon here.
And we haven't even completed a half yet.
But off your nearest after that time out, you got to regroup here a little bit, set up your offense, stay in your game shot baseline wouldn't go ball loose rolling around there taken away and jump ball foul possession arrow will go to same bias that's Morgan pulling goals tying it up looks like Marist had that ball locked up and she dove in there and made something happen again Only a freshman.
It's amazing.
Look at her handle working against a senior and over the same steps out on the dirt.
Well, if you're Mary's, there's certainly no reason to panic at first.
These two tangled in the region 6.8 championship as we talk about it as a 66 to 60 51. win in overtime by Saint Pius.
But Mary's trailed by 18 in that team.
So they were certainly shown the ability to come back.
Neither of these teams are worried when they get behind by double digits because each one of them has climbed back in.
Don't get Mary's gets Dray Mingo back at the beginning of the second half the three times he's sitting out this whole time, one on one they're sort of sitting on it has taken their second opportunity and finally gets it to 21 714 point advantage for the Durham Lions here.
Myles Wiener The two and a half mark in quarter number two came from behind again.
Wow, Great feet two Tillie came against the small Cleveland player and being that top leader now.
Yes he really makes you alter your shot.
Yeah and I think that's what the problem is.
There is a big block here by Jason and that one taken away McGirt working back on the other end puts it up Can't get the shot to go there The follow off the glass wouldn't go by Davis Wow Great play by Christopher Tate defensively there to avoid the foul on the thunder drive just to got some sides to that one knocked away Great job right there by Miller but right back inside Kane unable to make the shot there to be put back for go for some easy and finally the follow is there unofficially I think Kelly Kane has missed seven put that he's got to be able to control his strength and control her size use the size.
Did his feet square to the basket and put it up strong 23 seven.
The advantage for Saint Pius shot wouldn't go for Tiffany Davis kept alive a three point shot by Gleason is off the mark.
She hit one in that first quarter an ice age of Davis.
A stop over to Tiffany Miller will pull up and that one off the mark there.
And again, Mary's losing a little bit of that shooting for here in this first half.
If I was sent pace, I'd be pressing the action here a little bit, trying to get as many points up there as I could before the half, because they get Mingo back.
She was hacked.
Kelly Kane hacked by Tiffany Davis with her spurs to Andrea McGirt from Paris, averaging 11 seven, placing nine to Tiffany Davis, 70 for Derek Miller, eight points, draining that 14 points.
They've only got seven on the board here.
So you can imagine how these kids have just not been able to score today.
Here's killer team with 12 points, 14 boards and five blocks beyond the average of boards and blocks already.
Unbelievable.
First half ends for the six five junior as number 23 facet Williams steps in for the first time today.
The Sunisa will also take the C 30 Sophomore Molly McCloskey, 33, in the lineup for the blind as well there and games hit on the first she shooting in like an 85% from there you go the last three does good form as you can see they go three for two on that trip.
She's got as many points as she does rebounds now with 14 in both categories here.
As we hit the one minute mark of the half, Davis being guarded by Toles here inside.
Erica miller, just a sophomore as well, a five foot ten, two big lineups, two heavyweights battling it out here today.
That one going to be short and the ball will stay with her.
There's not much movement on that offensive set by Mary's just around the horn looking for the perimeter shot.
No backdoor cuts, Nobody.
You're cutting diagonal cuts.
There's a good pass and a good cut.
And that's what we're talking about right there, making you alter your shot.
Gleason kind of had to throw that thing up from her hip and then the a miss there from Tiffany Davis.
And right back the other way here, this just a Nash again, the other freshman we talked it out Morris is trailing by 18 but they seemingly have made more hustle plays than had the same pass to Simmons first time.
It's a backcourt violation and you talk about Mary's playing for their first state title.
Of course, their first semifinal the other night, defeating Greenbrier Gleason with 13 on that one, Mingo with 21 and her certainly missing here.
There is a nice job there.
By Erica miller.
First points of the night for Miller, the 510 sophomore time running down here, and neither team going to be able to get off a shot and that will do it.
An action packed first half but in favor of Saint Pius.
They lead at 25 nine as we reach the end of the first 16 minutes away from the arena at Gwynedd Center, an excellent first half record, Stephanie Dunn and the Golden Lions, who will go with that lead to the locker room.
Let's throw it down to Lisa.
We standing by with the win.
It would be a good sign.
You guys have a 15 point lead defensively.
You've done good.
Kelly Kane's had seven blocks in the first half.
What can you say about how your team played?
Well, I'm really happy about what we're doing right now.
We're playing smart.
We had a little smart in there when we first started trying to rush things.
But, you know, we're playing well defensively and that's the difference right now.
All right.
Good luck the second half date.
Back to you.
All right.
Thank you, Lisa.
Indeed, a strong first half for Saint Pius.
They lead it 25 nine.
Back with halftime when we return from the arena, when that center look harden, you send a five give it to the sky very high, just like a dragon.

Thanks, Jim.
Joining me now is the principal, I'd say pie.
Steve Spellman.
I also have the athletic director, Tommy Marshall of Maris.
And let's talk to Steve first.
I know say players has a league right now.
I know you guys are excited to be here.
Talk a little bit about what it means to community in the school place.
It does mean a lot to the school and the community.
It's just it's one of these things that brings your entire family together.
And, you know, it culminates in obviously a successful is with our good friends Ramirez and I'll tell you it is just it's it's a wonderful highlight for our whole family, our whole community.
It's great It's great that you say that you guys are good friends, because I know this is a big, big rivalry.
It is.
And it's it's a it's a long standing rivalry.
But I'll tell you, it's to what we think to class institutions playing with each other.
We admire and respect Maris.
And I think they do the same thing with bias.
I don't know.
Let's let's take a look over here, Tom.
Is that true?
Do you guys really respect each other over here?
Very much so.
Steve and his staff and Mark Kelly do a great job.
Their coaches do a great job.
They've got a great athletic program, great academics.
You know, we feel like we're sisters, girls.
And to both be here together is a reward.
I know this is the first time ever for Maris making it this far.
What does it mean to the school?
I know you guys have been on spring break this year.
This week?
Well, it's neat.
Yeah.
It is a shame that we're on spring break.
A lot of our fans are gone, but the ones you hear make a lot of noise.
And every time we stepped on the court the last two weeks, it's we've said a new person.
They were taking our program to a new height and to be here for the first time and the final four and in the finals is just a remarkable accomplishment for our program for Coach Hicks and her staff.
All right.
Thank you both so much.
Jim Lasorda, back to you.
I thank you, Lisa.
Two schools with a lot of history.
Marriage started in 1901, St Pius in 1958, but it say pies with the lead right here at halftime with a score of 25 to 9 over the war Eagles of Marist.
And so we move on on our halftime show here from the arena at Gortat Center and we get ready to throw it downstairs once again to Dave Gardner and Bobak.
All right, thanks, Jim.
And what a first half for Saint Pius.
You know, we were just talking here and one thing's that Saint passed it in the championship game, the region championship game with Marist this year is really took them out of the game in the first half.
They did the exact same thing here today so far in the first half of the state championship game.
Well got a lot of help without dream bingo in there and that really helped Pius and Maris gets her back.
You could see that they really own the hustle points in the first half.
They have the ability to get after it.
You saw when they double teams on the point against Pius, they were able to get turnovers.
So it's going to be one heck of a first 5 minutes.
And here we get to look at some of the first half, half of the highlights right here.
Kelly Cain show.
Indeed, here in the first half, offense defense, he did a little bit of everything.
But now you see if you put the ball up high, she has no problem getting it and finishing.
Kelly Cain six foot five frame doing a little bit of it right there again, rebounding.
She had 14 rebounds there in that first half to go along with her 14 points.
And you can see she's still a baby.
And I say that in an endearing way as far as her as far as her physical capabilities are concerned, the physical maturity is concerned.
She's going to start to jump.
She's going to start to control that power, that she hasn't really be a force.
And they're going to look at the first half numbers there.
Again, 25 to 9.
Of course, the score, the field goal picture, you see Mary's struggling a little bit, three point shot, just one of three right there, free throws, 711, just one of one.
Mary's not getting to the line much.
They're five blocks again all Cain turnovers 10 to 6 in favor of Mary's right there But the rebounds as we talked about coming in there 25 to 11 on the boards you're not going to have too much success going against Saint Pius with that interesting that Pius didn't even attempt a three point field goal and they were cutting to the basket of get very active guards on the outside.
But we're going to see Mary's have to throw up a bunch of threes I think in this half to climb back in this game whether you go looking forward to it against second half action coming up from the arena at Gwinnett Center at St Pius and Mary's going at it with the golden Lions holding an advantage 25 nine.
We're back with second half action in a moment.
Even after 37 years, it's still fresh to crossroad.

This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station on by step 25 nine.
Let's hear it courtside.
Lisa, We talked.
Joining me now is head coach Kim Nixon.
I know you guys are down by 50.
You've been down before.
Would you tell your girls at halftime?
I told us we got a score.
If you look at us, we got a lot of great lobs.
I start that looks good.
We let them scored 25 with our biggest get out of the ballgame.
So we put the ball the ball in the basket.
We're going to be fine.
And the kids just had to settle down.
We got our first half out of the way and we got to go put more non points on the board in second half.
All right, Coach, thank you.
Good luck in the second half.
Dave, back to you.
Dave, the second half is really going to be something because you could see Kim Hixson just saying that before the game and we saw Mary's at the end of that first half being very, very active.
I think we're in for a special second half.
Marissa's is going to climb back in this game.
So like we talked about, I mean, if you're Mary's, you can't panic right now.
They were down 18 in that region championship game against this same state feisty so they know how to come back here and indeed looking forward to an excellent well-played second half here by both teams they have to honor bowl block review of Mary's and Saint Pius, both with identical 30 and two records, both from the county, both out of the same region playing for the state championship all around right there.
And they already feeling the presence of Jerry Mingo, who again played didn't really play a lot at first after this fouls as he goes up on the call by Terry Pierre I thought it was a little bit chintzy.
I think he called it until he came and she might have had her hands over the top.
Right?
Mingo gets the role right there for her straight Mingo lip singing the name.
It sounds like it was made up by Kurt Vonnegut, Grade Mingo Long ago, Two for two on that trip right there.
Yeah.
You're talking about that before the game this afternoon.
Yeah, well, see, that's just what they both doesn't need.
Carelessness with the ball.
There was no foul.
Put pressure.
They just threw it out of bounds.
They don't like the way the way the Eagles have come out here again, getting two of two at the line here for Mingo.
They got her back in the lineup and get a turnover.
They get some points together here.
They're going to slowly build their confidence and try to work their way back in.
It was a great move.
Turn around out there.
Shot wouldn't go for Mingo taken down by Kane.
Mingo came from the left.
Left, of course, the team to the right block post it up stone had the ball should have converted and a lot of what we talked about in that first half was second and third opportunity points.
Not a lot of them.
For Mary's the game with the body.
It been inside there as long she's in the lineup, you really going to be limited as to what you're going to be able to do offensively after a miss, You see how active predatory Frederica miller was there, the handoff right there, Morgan told the freshman, ripped away their totals in a big first half for Saint Byers for good defense right there for Mary's working back the other way with Erica miller off the dribble puts up the shot short taken down by Fleming and the say by a crowd letting her know about it.
I think coach Dunn a good time maybe for a timeout and say ooh wow Kelly came in followed her own miss she's got 16 her first field goal of the second half.
I was going to say it looked as though St Pius was getting drawn in into the pace of Mary's, see a hectic pace and don't do that.
Don't turn over the ball, don't get caught up in that play.
You run game, you've got a huge lead.
But if you see the hustle back there from Miller shot that ball basically from the arc following her own stop it has been taken a look at the points here came with the initial miss but then the cutback just one more element to her game right here.
Mary's trying to work it in does so just in time that went off the fingertips of Mary take it away by Fleming and then Stephanie Davis hustling but unable to save it.
He's going to make that pass down court.
You've got to put it over the top totally and let your player run onto it.
Don't make it close.
Say fines with 12 turnovers, Mary's with seven.
I'll give it to you.
Offensive set bias and don't be crazy Falls right there in the paint left and wouldn't go and it looks like a push on her eight that was going to go against Kane It looks like she got Stephanie down there again fourth season as head coach at Saint Pius was a pretty good ballplayer in her own right.
Back at UGA, just down the road.
I guess when we watch the marriage of Saint Pius, we're watching Andy Landers after teammates and of course the fourth year head coach as well for Marist.
And a shot from just inside the arc is off the mark Check him down and back the other way.
So the golden lion ladies just to state looking inside.
They work it into Kane but unable to get the shot to go and credit Mingo who got a hand in on that one.
And Davis brings it back across the other way, drives the length and gets it to go right here.
And that's one way to do it.
Can't do it any better than that.
Crossover dribble and explodes it down.
The key to the to the whole house.
You didn't have to offer a shot too much.
They're beating the big yellow to the bucket on the other, throwing it inside there and a great left hand move there by James.
Pretty nice feed and great finish but you got to worry about Kane underneath.
And then all of a sudden you've got a player like Fleming is five foot ten who can also make it happen inside.
You just can't let nurse go in spurts.
Now if you're st pirates, if they score, you've got to score some off ball possession error will go to the Golden lions.
And in the lineup, Davis, a freshman as we take another look at the last one here in your living room again Tiffany Davis with the drive there.
Wow good looking penetration to the bucket by Tiffany Davis and 32nd time asking to be called by coach Stephanie Dunn and same bias as the Lady Eagles as Mary's try to work their way back into this one here a little bit 2913 with 443 left in the third quarter.

It's always nice to go back to later on in those games are archived there and I'll be able to watch it over again, relive the the exciting moments that we will experience this week.
The be for 40 left and go to number three field goals again nine of 21 in the first after Pius three of five here Morris just one of five got a couple go at the free throw line there and it's still very much a basketball game here.
Almost halfway through the third, the Krista Tatum just inbounding the ball.
She's a six foot of two So great size in this space squad.
Go into the corner trying to feed Kate inside and she didn't get the shot to go there and that was knocked away.
Wow.
Tasia Davis But they're taken right back by Nash, and I've been impressed with the freshman combo here.
Three and four there's Toles and back the other way.
It looks like a whistle and a foul going to be called on.
Dame Jane pushing off.
Looks like a lot of room that she had in there.
And I came out on the rack at the fouls as well here a little bit in this third quarter pass and I gonna take it away box with the tape Kelly came blocking that pass Fleming feeding came inside knocked away from on shot that was a nice block there by Mingo the chain was able to get her own foul there and put it back into her 18th point omega with three fouls.
Can't be what she wants to be in that situation.
She really sealed the Philly team there though.
And then two pass almost perfect that one blocker behind Bartos and there's the pass out front on the other end all alone up and in for Fleming Jane Fleming with six points here and it's a 20 point safe nice lead 32nd timeout called by coach Kim Hickson and Mary's and the St Pius folks have plenty to celebrate so far here.
We'll take another look at that last bucket here.
Look at that pass over the towel.
That's a let's Fleming run on to it and then a good left hand puts it up softly.
You know, it could be worse.
It's 33 to 30.
It could be much worse because Kelly Kane.
I've been counting them.
She's missed ten put backs.
I mean, she's converted a lot of those to get a wrong rebound, but she's missed ten put backs.
Wow.
We talked about broke that kneecap last year in the playoffs but has come back in here.
So it's pretty much led state bias in scoring throughout the playoffs.
She's been consistent at 26 and round one against Stone Mountain.
So of course her and state had 12 apiece and around two against Salem came with 26 more points coming the other night in the semis against number two, Jones County Marist after the time out down by 20 with the basketball near the three minute mark here you see Dre New York post up she really steals Kelly team because they're not delivering the ball.
So half of our final group ain't off with it.
So PIs gets it across here.
Fleming again with the left hand wouldn't try to that's too strong.
Kelly Kane with 20 rebounds And just how can you imagine couple averaging 13 coming in off the glass wouldn't go there's another you know coming into this matchup into the semifinals the coaches really felt like the final four teams that were here with the four that deserve to be here.
These are the teams that have been up there all year long.
Not.
Not a lot of Cinderella stories coming into this quarter.
Girls final inside game once again.
And a foul there.
If he shot foul that it's hard on Mingo it's going to be more on her coach Dunn's game plan could be just like that just you know work clock feed the post and let's play defense as you see Kelly Kane at the line here, miss his first miss in the last four.
And you see things numbers there, 15 points, 21 boards and five blocks for the junior.
For Erica miller, the end of the lineup for Marist and Mingo will sit with those four fouls come you can say for Derek 19 and a follow right there by take trade and you know that's the one thing but we've been talking so much about Kelly Kane not to single her out as she is such a player though, but then you got players like Krystal Tate, you know, football.
I mean, you know, who looks really smooth.
She's only a sophomore.
She's going to be special to, you know, both of these teams with a lot of youth, a lot of players, not only off the bench, but in the starting lineup.
Freshman sophomores have gotten it done all year long.
These teams are going to be good for a while.
Well, Mary's won the title W, I mean, the same punishment of a couple of years ago.
They were really good at picking it all taken away.
Nice job there.
And then third is got a hand on it there.
It looks like back on the other end, three on one.
The freshman will draw the foul from Gleeson for those.
Morgan Toles I would have made that one more pass to the left side, to the left wing or because the defender was on her side.
But you know, she's in the Liberty freshman that's on the first has a massive stroke there from Orlando.
So a lot of poise for a freshman.
She's made a couple of nice decisions here to kind of pull up in times where she was in traffic.
And certainly I'd like to see her big brothers play.
I don't know she's got any.
But from the looks of her game, she does.
And she's really mature in her basketball skills for a freshman.
First bowls, two of two on that trip, and she will take a breather right here.
Earlier.
Davidson one of the original starters in the lineup for same prize number 31.
If you're Mary's the Course, you got to be careful Of course Mingo again out the game out of the game here.
You got to get closer like Andrew McCarthy, a junior to step up.
She's been consistent throughout the playoffs.
Just two points here today, though.
But she had 14 in round one.
She had 20 points against Northwest, which fit on a round to win.
There has been pretty consistent, but again, the offense has been hard to come by.
Bye.
Really everyone as you see the turnover story now, 39 ers so far, the 13 Mary's with nine for 13 for another whistle right there three team fouls now on Mary's and another whistle inside by Taylor Davidson third team for the status and easily five eight sophomore picking up her second foul as you see Davidson at the line here with junior averaging around nine points on the year you see Alena Smith, a sophomore, came to the lineup as college game takes a well-deserved breather here with 48.8 left in the third.
And you see Davidson's numbers right at nine points as we talked about their missed on a second, locked away, kept alive nicely and another whistle right there and the goal lines really counting it inside a foul on Tiffany Davis and they're starting to get a little bit frantic now.
43 seconds left to go in the third quarter, down by a bundle, down by 25.
Morris is starting to get a little bit dancing and that's four fouls on Tiffany Davis, the senior from Marist.
So now all of a sudden, a couple of Lady Eagles in foul trouble here.
Allen taken away from Molly McCarthy with most of the attack on the other end.
Tough shot and a whistle a foul on the call on Davidson She wasn't going to be a saint Pius now stop the clock Let them take those tough shots.
Let them have what they just come down, use clock and make sure you get a high percentage shot.
Don't stop calling the shots.
Andrew University Junior.
Just two points today.
Rebound for the trainer and able to get the roll on the first And then I'll tell you what look at the background there.
This place is filled up nicely for game one.
You know, even though Mary's was on spring break, they've found enough fans to make the journey to going up center.
They see Saint Pius contingent out of school early today.
As expected, they came up on busses with lunches and coach Jim Hicks is looking on here trying to rally the troops.
But the going has been tough today offensively for the Lady Eagles, a team that really prided themselves defensively.
17 steals a game.
Typically, opponents have only been shooting 33% against them all year long, Richardson quoted as saying.
Defense is really what separates us from other teams back in Indiana.
Nice looking defense right there.
That translates into points.
That's the type of full court pressure that they've got to have.
And we're probably going to see all fourth quarters.
I haven't the at a time I think they're going to be called by coach.
Definitely done a 32nd time around.
They may talk a little bit about that.
Press.
Yeah, compose yourselves and let's figure out what we're doing out here.
Let's just not get crazy and throw the ball around the gym.
Mingo is 23 points for Marist in the quarter finals against the defending champion and a wall Lady Eagles.
A 30 point win for Mary Stewart, of course, carried that momentum right into the semifinals the other night against Greenbrier.
So you can imagine how much they miss her in foul trouble in this game.
As we talked about, she was averaging 14 coming in.
But again, she's hit for 20 a couple of different times, I believe, throughout the postseason there.
And that's really the difference in the lineup right now.
15, 20 points have really been a tight game, as you see.
Mingo, All she can do is watch it.
There's four fouls right now.
10 seconds left, third period, live from the arena at Gwinnett Center.
They've got locked up, having a little trouble getting the ball here.
And it just in time.
We're back on the other end at the buzzer.
The shot will not count.
It falls short from Alena Smith.
And we are through three quarters of here with St Pius holding a 3816 advantage over Mary's.
We'll take a timeout back with the final 8 minutes when we return.
And I'd like to suggest to you that inspiration is not something that comes and goes.
This is a whole new look at inspiration.
Dr. Wayne Dyer, America's foremost spiritual guide and mentor, presents six Steps to Inspiration.

Bobak with you.
Lisa was courtside with us today.
Well, Draymond goes up.
She's got four fouls, but you can't wait any longer.
Coach Hickson has got to come with all her guns.
She's got to play her chances here and hope that Dre can play effective defense without fouling falling out of the game.
As you see Mingo back in the lineup as we open up the fourth quarter, a very exciting marriage here.
A shot put up, good looking shot right there.
Indeed.
Bright for Derrick Miller.
Great job by Tillie.
He came to double down on that.
But then Dray Mingo flipped it out to the perimeter and they were able to convert.
It's a good start from Harris this fourth quarter down by 22, and you cannot count Marist out.
There are number one for a reason.
Bo coming in here today, playing the way they have throughout the year.
And I'm so, so chicks and you guys told her girls the same thing but this game is not over by any means.
A lot to happen in 8 minutes.
A high school basketball boy, she smooth for a six footer.
Nice feed, big foul from behind right there going to be called on Miller And if you're five seven you can be a little bit more patient right here.
I thought this foul was on 33 Andre Mingo but I guess nine years ago.
Yeah they're going to get Miller from behind there.
Look like that's a break for Mary's as you see Tate's numbers four points five rebounds for the sophomore.
And as you mentioned, Tate, another six footer, this is on the second but keeps it alive and the going.
Lions will have the basketball again.
Who is going to be a great baseline boy?
So who's going to wield toward the baseline?
Who would have been would've had a clear path to the hoop.
Taylor Davidson had the door shut down there.
Marist will inbound the basketball.
So how do you like that?
Saint By showing a little bit of pressure there.
But they backed off Stephanie Davis She's playing with four fouls, puts up the three shot won't go and taken down by Bowles and now a jump off ball possession hero to Saint Pius.
Have you ever seen a better freshman guard in the girls game than what we're seeing from Toles sneaking inside, getting that rebound?
She's been all over the floor.
She's been running this club.
It's just absolutely amazing to me as a freshman that she can do that so many things well on the floor.
You know, it's it's easy to be overshadowed with the talent we're going to see throughout the week in both on Boys and girls sides of the floor.
So it's easy for a freshman like Morgan Bowles to be overshadowed, but she has certainly made a name for herself here as a freshman.
Yes, indeed.
But I'll tell you what, seven points.
Yeah.
As you said, he's really handled the ball well self Bolden, Christie Gleason, both cheeks and again working for players here in the final 641.
Try to make a little bit of a run here but unable to cut into that gap much more.
Let's take those back to the line here.
They are shooting 63% from the line one on one situation and hits on the front end.
This is smooth looking player.
Well, absolutely.
And again, just to soften, you know and able to hit they're brought down by Miller puts it across into the corner there is Lisa miller staring right into the eyes of Kelly Kane.
She's an intimidating presence down there.
There's no doubt really taken away three point shot from the corner in and out of there.
And that's the way it's been all the way back on the other end, Taylor Davidson lays it up Kane with the follow block by Gleason and now a whistle went out of bounds it goes and back to Marist Patella Davidson was out of bounds, stepped inside and stepped in bounds with only one foot, did not establish himself in bounds when the ball was tipped to hurt.
So that's why he goes over the matters.
That should be a chance.
And they've got to cannon right there.
It's going to be a foul on a three point opportunity, it looks like for three.
Meanwhile, both of these schools do such a great job with athletics.
And you heard Tommy Marshall with Harris, that's an aristocratic director at halftime.
I mean, both these schools are tuned to clubs that all the brands can be proud of.
They really do it the right way.
DAVIDSON Again, we'll take a seat here.
Mingo at the line there, as you mentioned, playing with four fouls throughout the second half field.
It's so a three point play for Dre Mingo, the six to JR nearly ripped away their skies gets it across.
And I tell you what Mary's playing right down to the final whistle here today and you can expect that and I believe that's going to be fired out of Mingo three weeks ago actually I'll call that.
On the Blazers game losing so another break for Harris Mingo will stay in there season again picking up another foul sees another six footer Big senior Yeah playing his final high school game here today for seeing that was 9.2 over the course of the year.
We're going to look at Fleming here on the first throw away on the second there 536 to play 20 point advantage Mr.
Unable to you excited that so far Slater much in the second half kick it out Nice move move right there off the glass it would go down game there you see how much they've missed Dre Mingus athleticism and size.
You know we we know Mary's is still hustling defensively the same passer tell you what do you think it was a five point game the way they're playing defense they haven't let up a bit.
that's nice move with the left hand.
Fleming I keep calling her with the left hand.
She must be a 9.45 ten senior James winning shot from outside.
On the other end, Andrea McGirt knocks one down and that's a two in last seven points for McGirt.
She is warmed up here in the second half, tying the back there by Toles, the freshman special area, 33 fouls on McGirt.
One more total shooting, a one and one right here, again, averaging eight points on the year and a chance to hit that right here.
She's got seven with four rebounds.
It's on the front end.
She's hit four average here, both as the freshman to impress for coach Stephanie Dunn is fun to watch and make it two of two Oregon totals with nine points and lead is 4523 Booker back on the other end and schedule WHISTLE still fight hard all the embarrassed lady Eagles without a doubt yeah but urgency strong she is she's got a presence on the floor doesn't she.
Handle that that's not easy to steal the ball from the five points today.
Well this time the first will have another and they're going to look at Frazier Davis, another freshman low who has certainly contributed some quality minutes here today for Coach K making as he's done all year alone.
I think this big crowd is going to the arena to say afternoon is probably disappointed that this is not a two point game, but I think is yes 90% of the fans the same ties and now say this game is going to come down.
They would say two points, three points overtime because these teams have played so tight over the course of the year, so closely.
They split the regular season series, sometimes one a game in the regionals over Mary's.
So they lead two one, they should be three one.
Well, this game could also be viewed live on GPB internet site around the world at WW w dot gboard.
Just follow the links to connect to the game.
Every game will be archived and available later on the GPB website as well as W WW dot GPB Ford.
And as Jim mentioned earlier in the show today, we certainly want welcome all of our servicemen and women around the world who may be watching these games live on our website.
There's certainly a lot of folks live here in the building today watching them in person as expected.
What a venue for high school basketball, the Arena, Gwinnett Center.
It's a great venue for any any event, but particularly for the kids.
This is this is big time coming here is like, you know, years ago you try to get the Omni.
You can't this is perfect for that arena.
I said the Omni, I want an old timer now.
It's built in.
And so a time out here again say biased with the basketball or just the tape lost their footing.
There may have been a little slick spot on the floor there.
Now that GHC logo he's got those details on the floor and they can be hairy right back to you.
There is still to stage the Davis on the drive, puts up the shot it wouldn't quite go and Jean with yet another rebound touchdown look for halfway through the fourth quarter here that one taken away by Gleason from the corner three point shot is there for Tiffany Davis Nice looking rotation on that with she's got the high and you want to put the ball right back in her hands Fleming back on the other end Nice move.
She's got a right hand.
She's also in double figures with 11 points today to fundamentally sound.
You know, it's hard to get players to use their left hand unless we're left handed.
But We know she could use both.
So, yeah, you're right.
So there is bingo right back on the other end of the bucket.
Mingo Of course.
A transfer from Westminster helped lead the Lady Wildcats well into the playoffs a year ago, and it certainly meant the world to coach Kim Hixon and this first lady, the team this year back on the other end.
Three point shot too strong by Nash Tiffany Davis back and running the other way had a doctor with that shot wasn't needed Could he use clout there even though you're open right now, the only thing that can beat you would be prolonging the game.
Now you've got a prohibitive lead.
Why not milk it?
Just use the clock, Mingo for three off the inbound.
No good.
Kept alive, though.
McGirt puts up the shot and it looks like Toles may have got a hand on that one, but the outlet is overhead, so it's done.
Still coach it hard.
With 249 left here, you don't take anything for granted.
we need to have long time rivalry here.
But Erica miller thought about the shot down.
Puts one up and taken down by Fleming for the Lions getting cross.
Fleming on the other end here could pull up the situation right here.
You don't need you don't need more points.
No need to take any more shots as you talk about.
But you don't want that quality.
great.
Look up and in and the foul Chris to take that got the same five folks back on their feet Just see right here.
Great Look inside, Chris to take that foul ball by Jamie Howard.
One of the referees played it Reinhart just a Nash with the feed there and completes the three point play does Krista Tate she's got nine points today he's six foot sophomore as.
We knew the two minute mark jump ball ball possession arrow he missed just that Marissa's dame Great move by mango and it didn't go This is Mark Brown bold line faith all fired up here players get set to check into the game here McGuirk picks up the shot and hits off the glass.
Andrea McGirt into double figures with ten points under 2 minutes to go in this one.
And it looks like a timeout going to be called by coach Stephanie Dunn of say Pines, probably to get some younger players in the lineup.
Here you see Kelly Cain limping there a little bit as well Kelly Cain.
I hope it's not bad.
Get a brace on that knee.
Mary alluded to what she went through last year with that broken kneecap during the playoffs.
Well, coming up live at 5 p.m., the Georgia wheelchair basketball championship between the Atlanta Wolfpack, the West Georgia Wolverines, This championship is integrated into the state high school basketball championship by the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs and the Georgia High School Association coming up at 5 p.m. right here on GPB and looking forward to that one there for those wheelchair athletes.
Wow, man, this job is the first time this game is being televised live.
So it'll be fun to watch.
And it's like you're doing that game on.
Absolutely.
I miss it.
man, I'm excited about it.
The Atlanta Wolfpack, of course, the state runner up last year fell to the Macon Bears, but got some new blood here this year with the West Georgia Wolverines at the house.
As you see, Kelly Kane's numbers there today, 18 points, 24 rebounds, six blocks.
We may have seen the last of the junior this year.
If you think the same passes, they're up 5231 and may not need all the rest of the way.
Yeah, but you can tell they're attending to that, right?
Neither is pointing to her meniscus, to her cartilage there and very often that's an easy procedure.
I shouldn't say he's, as she'd say, relatively simple.
Austin Tardy number 12 the senior end of the lineup for Saint Pius the 33 Molly McCarthy the senior also an air force at 11 and traveling going to be called on today right there.
Another bit of information Heather Fran for the sister of Braves player Jeff Brand forth is an assistant coach at Saint Pius.
So over on the bench over there just found that out.
A little bit of information relayed to us as.
You see Kelly Cain there she is up and walking around, maybe trying to work it out.
It looks like she wants to go back in now.
She's not going to get a great move.
Wow.
And one right there, One new job by the old lady.
He was there, Tasia Davis.
And you know, we've talked about Morgan Toles being a freshman for Saint Pius, but how about Mary's freshman, T.J. Davis?
She's been up and down the floor all day long today.
She's been active.
She's been she's strong.
Six points today.
Good handle to create havoc on defense.
She's got a pressure right here again by the Lady Eagles as we near the one minute mark to this contest.
What a girls action.
And McCarthy stepped on the line right there.
McCarthy wanted the foul.
It will go back to the Lady Eagles because he keeps ending up with the ball and I thought both times but those on the other side and here she could have gotten the foul but she's she's not a veteran didn't start the game getting no respect from the officials affecting her.
Andrea McGirt three point shot hits the with a baker's dozen here 13 points has really pointed out had just two at the break and has really stepped up big here in the second half now because he gets a good line.
And as you get a look at the St bias bench right there, 47.7 on the clock.
And as Jane Fleming goes back to the line and gets the roll call for her 37 seconds remaining in the quarter the line faithful to feel it now it's set one rattles in and out of there.
Grace brings in a senior six foot ten for Mary's once again brought a six footers on the floor today for both teams.
what a drive right there.
Tasia Davis.
Wow.
Good one to celebrate.
This is the best eight points for the freshman.
Back on the other end, McCarthy walks the baseline.
She's a senior.
This is the final game.
So that's a great thrill for her.
She will record her name under the scoreboard.
Mingo four, three, up top, shot off the mark inside, 10 seconds, taking down Fleming back on the other end.
And those Robbie Fowler from Tasia Davis.
And Davis wasn't going to let a score that easy.
Great win for bias.
And Marissa's very disappointed that Mingo got in foul trouble early, missed most of the first half, or at least the entire second quarter, some of the first quarter, three early fouls, and we're never able to get into their offensive game.
Fleming with 13 will have one more 2.3 on the clock and the celebration is on Stephanie finally cracking a smile over there on that St biased bench.
And you can see that the golden lions are all smiles on the floor as well.
And how about that?
To prolong it even further, though, I tell you what they get Kelly Jane back in the game will get that ball.
Exactly.
They might need her what a showing though though by these she's going to line just an unbelievable effort here today.
They really got Marist out of the game early.
The only difference this game and the region championship game is they really kept them out of it.
Yeah, they really played well.
They were never antsy.
They always knew what they wanted to do.
Coach Dunn obviously has done a great job with this team.
Very steady, very precise, ran their offense and played excellent defense as well.
Morris will end up inside that 30 and three on the year and all three losses coming to the St Pius team.
Again, the Lady Eagles have spent the better half of the season at number one on the year.
State bias came in at three in most statewide polls.
Has Molly McCarthy again great job good to have to so finished the game with four points and that will do it.
They celebrate it is on for St Pius the Golden Lady Lions year 2005 2006.
What a girls basketball champions is This one An effort today by Kelly Cain.
He finishes the ballgame with 18 points for teammate Jane Fleming, also with 13 and Saint Pius follows up their 2004 state championship for the championship here in 2006.
We'll take a time out we'll be right back with comments from the winning coach, Jim Pinocchio.

Let's go downstairs to listen wish they Lisa thanks to him joining me now is a very happy head coach Stephanie Dunn how excited are you and what does this mean for the community in your school?
I'm so excited.
We you know, we thought we had an opportunity to get here last year and Kelly was hired and it really hurt the team mentally.
So for us to come back this year with three young and experienced perimeter players and to get this far and play a great mares team, you know, who is our rival.
And we do have a tremendous amount of respect for them to come out here and apply the way we did.
I mean, I just words can't express how proud of this team I am.
What can you say about these girls and how they played even when they had a substantial lead, they never gave up.
They kept playing hard.
That's the character of this team.
I've said it once, I've said it a million times this year.
These girls, I mean, they don't really care about the score.
They just they want to give their all play defensively and offensively.
And, you know, it won them a state championship this year.
And it's your second the last it was in 2000 for your second as head coach to.
That's right.
It's exciting.
I can't believe it is more than I mean God has done more than I could have ever hope for.
Imagine with me as a head coach and, you know, it's just an incredible feeling.
And we do thank God the whole the entire St Pius community was sending me emails.
Everybody was praying for us.
And that's what our team is really built on is being spiritual and really we just give all the thanks to God.
But thank you so much and congratulations.
Thank you, Jim.
Thank you.
