It's the 2010 for a girls state championship.
Today it's the Northwest.
WHITFIELD Lady Bruins at 29 and three out of region seven taking on the southwest The Cat Lady Panthers the defending state champs at 26 and four out of region six.
They had a good afternoon, everyone.
Dave Gardner alongside former Atlanta Hawks Mike Glenn, a.k.a Stinger.
And I'm going to be working with you right here, Maine.
We've got a heck of a match up today.
Yeah, Dave, my pleasure working with you as well.
I mean, this is as good as it gets.
The state championship game between two outstanding opponents couldn't be better.
Let's go ahead and take a look at Northwest Whitfield, A team, of course, it's been on a tear of late and they've got a lot of big girls and they are led by Nisha McCurdy.
Well, she is so fundamentally sound, Dave.
I like her touch on the basketball, the way she catches and turns and scores.
She's the biggest challenge for the Lady Panthers and she stands at six foot five.
Indeed, the biggest challenge on the floor there.
Indeed.
Taking a look at the starters for Northwest.
WHITFIELD Again.
COOK True.
Coley McCurdy and Robinson all solid from top to bottom on the floor there today.
We've got it with Coach Margaret Stock Burger and asked her what does it mean for her team to be in the finals?
Here's her response.
Well, you know, it's been 20 years since Northwest has been here, so it's being able to get back to the state championship game is just an honor for the school and for our community to coach Doc Burger, 14 years as head coach at Northwest.
WHITFIELD All right, Mike, let's talk about Southwest to cap the defending state champs a couple of times over.
They've got all kinds of athletes on their side of the floor.
They're going to be fun to watch.
It is they like to pressure the basketball, get up and down the floor, and they depend on their athleticism and pressure to get them wins.
And let's talk about Carl Lewis, of course, really the leader on that side of the floor for the Lady Panthers.
Just a remarkable player.
She does it all for them.
I mean, she leads them in points, ten rebounds this young lady takes them to wins at times when you're not sure if they can do it or not.
They'll depend on her tonight, inside and outside to make it happen.
Over 14 points a game and they're just starting five for Southwest the cab Alondra Rivers done Warner Louis and China Miley six foot three inside with some size to match up against Northwest Whitfield Here is coach Cathie Walton on what it means for her team to be in the championship state finals before our team is everything.
This is what the kids have been working for all year long.
Started in the summer of the spring, you know, the whole season, you know, we had our ups and downs, but we have eight seniors and this is what they wanted.
So this is where they want to be and I'm excited for them.
Coach Walton has done a remarkable job again, has been there now eighth year as the head coach, looking for their third state title.
And it's going to be a great matchup between two teams that can get up and down the floor.
They are an outstanding job by these coaches.
I mean, they play fundamentally sound basketball, they pressure, they adjust well within the course of a game.
I look well, very well played and closely contested game.
Here you go.
Well, let's throw it courtside now to our announcer, Dr. David Withrow.
The pride of Murray County with the player introductions reigns a guard up by four Senior number 22 Bailey Cole, The right guard up five eight.
Senior number 25.
Jordy Cook right Guard up high five.
Senior number 32.
Emily at post Go six three.
Senior number 33.
Kristi Robertson And that setter a65 junior number 44 player.
Lisa McCurdy Northwest Springfield is coached by Margaret Scott Burger.
Now let's leave the starters for the Southwest the Cap Lady Panthers at Guard, a56 senior number ten, Alondra River at forward, a 511 single number 22.
Taylor Lewis All right, guard up by the senior number 23.
Chancey Dunn led forward up by nine senior number 24.
Brian O'Connor and at center a62 senior number 33 on Miley Southwest.
The cab is coached by Kathy Walton.
Right.
We're really very high.
So there are your starters and we are set and ready to rock and roll.
The four girls championship will tip when we return live to the arena and win at center.
Stay with us.
Let's get started.
This inside listen as we've had some folks suggest that after watching Jon Nelson handle the rock on the camera today, that we need to send him to summer basketball camp, use some of the money for that.
But we're not going to every dollar is going to high school sports.
I still don't know how you do this, but thanks for watching.

Hey, great party.
Oh, thanks.
Here you go.
One hamburger, medium well, this is well done.
No, no, no.
That's medium well.
What are you calling me?
A liar?
This thing is practically brown.
That's.
Yes.
You're not going to come to my house and tell me how to cook.
You wouldn't do it.
There.
Crazy.
So don't do it here, Sportsmanship.
It's up to you.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, serving all of Georgia for a girls action set to tip between Northwest Whitfield and Southwest DeCamp, Let's go courtside.
Meet the other member of our team, Eric Hunter.
Eric, what's going on?
Hey, thanks, Dave.
Now, Southwest, a cab in this match up looks for their third consecutive state title.
They haven't lost a playoff game since the 2007 quarterfinals against Mary's now Northwest.
WHITFIELD They boast that intimidating front line.
They go six foot three and six foot five in the low post.
That's a tall order at the Panthers, one of three hits.
It's Northwest versus Southwest.
Mike and Dave.
All right.
Thank you, Eric.
Looking forward to hearing from you the rest of the afternoon right here in indeed, that front court.
It's going to be tough for Southwest, the cab to deal with right here.
But they've got two athletes to work with.
They do it.
I like the way that they're very patient and moving the ball from side to side until they can get it where they want it.
Talking about the Northwest Whitfield team, very disciplined offensively.
You saw the officials right there.
Of course, the two girls we talked about in the pre game.
We're the ones that tip center court.
Yeah, Southwest the camp controlling the opening tip looking at its own defense right now being played by northwest Whitfield trying to counteract the extreme athleticism of the Lady Panthers Nancy Dunn inside there it kicks it out of Andre Rivers, takes the shot off the mark would not go kept alive though nicely along that baseline.
And then the little jumper by Chatham Island.
Well, you see the activity all over the court just getting the festivities started.
All the lady Panthers inside.
There's victory knocked away though.
There's that defense we talked about touch though, by Briana Warner and out of bounds Southwest the camp averaging 60 points a game offensively this season 61 in the playoffs meanwhile Northwest to cab of course you see coach Margaret Stock burger have gotten it done inside but they've also got some pretty good guards as well.
And Bailey Coley and Jordy Cook, they don't get rattled, Dave.
I mean, these are veteran teams that have had a lot of success and great coaching that shot altered right there nicely on the other end inside and the first two of the night for Taylor Lewis Well you see right away that the lady Bruins are going to have to get down court because the Panthers are going to push it down the floor quickly.
They've got to get back on defense and there's another turnover on the other end.
Lewis Inside up but in transition game that's been the key thus far for the Lady Panthers Southwest the Cavs certainly not intimidated by that size here early on inside.
They've been able to force a couple of turnovers and then convert them into points.
Pretty healthy inside themselves.
The Lady Panthers who sat right here, that shot may have gotten the finger on it.
Did Miley look like that shot was changed trajectory in the air there?
Southwest a cap three point shot is there for Lewis and how about that the lady Panthers out of the gate inside the first 2 minutes up nine nothing I think the Taylor Lewis shocked everybody they I mean she pulls up in transition and that's a three point shot go the zone was waiting for a few passes she said that's far enough.
I can knock it down from here.
For the Lady Panthers, of course, have that championship experience on the side.
And you see their road against Sequoyah in round one, Fayette County in round two, they edge Logan, Bill 5350 in the quarterfinals before beating Forest Point the other night, 6155 had that game in control over Forest Park before they came back on them.
There a little bit made it close, but Southwest, the cap has been really the dominant team coming in, ranked number two in four eight.
And I think it's a very good time out right now for the Lady Bruins because they've got to get a little bit more order, get a couple of good shots in and get back in transition defense to find themselves right back in this game right now down nine zero so Lady Bruins will inbound that's Bailey Coley number 22 as we talked about with the basketball is immediately not the tallest player on the floor but scrappy.
There's a takeaway though by Warner on the other end lays it off the glass it in boy again the transition game the pressure defense paying dividends this Time Warner taking that one coast to coast.
Boy Mike, how about this crowd in here?
They're fired up They're a little it as a rocket.
Both sides are standing up.
They've nobody sitting down.
But do it.
I may have to stand up.
If this keeps up the rocket.
There's another pass.
Take it away.
And right now, Southwest Cab really doing a great job of closing out those passing lanes.
Really on.
No surprise.
It led Bruins to having such a tough time getting started here playing to look tentative.
This is the state championship that there is a time to be ten it is tonight three from Alondra Rivers how about that the southwest to cap teams out to a 14 oh run.
Well time to go to your favorite play right now Holding up play number one is the instructions from Cooley their leader on the floor.
Look at the pressure all over McCurdy will step outside three point shot off the rockets blocked out of the hand of Emily.
True but the follow is there and northwest with good is on the board Christie Robinson the six three senior puts them on the board and that's how they like to play de McCurdy and Robinson look for each other down low.
But my goodness.
Wow.
Louis says, How about out front Taylor Louis already in double figures, and we're not even halfway through the first period.
She's got ten Lady Bruins trying to count her on the other end down 17 to here maybe a little bit shellshocked out of the gate They've just got to try to settle down right here in place of basketball and they want to play inside out still looking for a way to get inside to.
Roberson Oh.
McCurdy That's the goal of this offense is the no screen roll, and they get it inside over the top and a whistle inside foul.
Got to go against the Lady Panthers and that will put McCurdy at the line.
Well, this is their stabilizer.
I mean they go inside to find who they are, get back on short here And this is an excellent free throw shooter.
So it takes a little time off the clock, allows them it stops the clock allows them to settle down a little bit.
And Al McCurdy knocks down that first free throw, first final in 20 years for the Northwestern good lady.
Bruins coach Scott Burger was an assistant coach on that 1990 team that lost in the state championships south northwest which but of course looking for their first state title.
Let's take a timeout for 11 be right back 17 Ford South was the Cavaliers it broadcast of today's games is made possible in part by the following broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association.
The GHC would like to thank State Farm for their support of high school sports programing on GPB.
George's State Farm.
Agents are proud of the achievements of GHC student athletes and are committed to promoting teen driver safety through our Steer Clear program and better team driving icon like a good neighbor.
State Farm is their school first West Whitfield and Southwest a cab 17 for the score as we take a look at the Lady Bruins road through the championship through the state tournament right here, it started with Chamblee in round one.
Maize, the number one team they beat in round two, Madison County, of course, 6142.
And then, of course, they had their way with the Dutch town in the semis the other night, Jordy Cook with 27 points in that ballgame for Northwest.
Whitfield McCurdy with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in that game as well.
Back to action right here.
That's been all southwest.
A cab out of the gate.
They lead at 17 for Dave Gardner, Mike Glenn, Eric Hunter, courtside with you along with the rest of the GPB crew.
Andre Rivers off the dribble and she's got a nice outside shot, too.
But pretty good defense we're seeing right now today.
No poultry to be found for the Lady Peppers and a rare miss right there trying to Miley with the turnaround went in and out on the other end.
That one blocked away Bailey Coley trying to take it inside had it swatted away bounce pass on the other end left hand is good for Chancey Dunn Well the running game if they allowed the lady Panthers to get back in transition it could be a long night for the lady Bruins.
I see Coley with the basketball up top kicks it over Kayla for Koski checking in the lineup a moment ago during that time out three number 15 misses from three point range Dunn on the other end drive her shot goes off the side of the iron and the lady Bruins with the basketball and the ball handler Cooley has outstanding skills right there being tested and able to handle the ball well enough to draw a foul on that play Mike you know you got to wonder, Coach Walton, is she concerned that her team got out to such a great start?
A lot of times when you do that, you tend to get a little lackadaisical at a team, work back into it.
I guess it really works both ways.
Yeah, it really can.
But for Coach Walton, what she wants to do now is make Northwest with feel make the adjustment.
She wants to just keep playing the way she's playing and not change the thing.
She shot foul right here but will go to the line.
Also a good thing for the lady Bruins though.
If they can stop the clock, make a few free throws, settle their nerves and slow this tempo down a little bit, it will favor them.
Great assault because these numbers right there six point average on the season this is on the first she'll have another that's three team fouls on staff lost to cap here in the opening quarter northwest which had yet to commit a foul but Walton just wants her troops not to get involved trouble and got to continue to push the gas he misses both well the Panthers working on the other end we're going to call for Koski.
It's going to be her first team, first 241 left here, opening period 19 for the defending state champions, making a bid for their third straight title here tonight at the Arena.
Big win at center.
I saw some of their fans, Dave, holding up three fingers, calling out, three being so trying to make their mark.
Three years in a row off the glass.
All Lewis in position right there and she's got points 11 or 12 in the book here in this first half.
Well it's like a runaway train right now and you're looking for that Oh, nice backdoor play but blocked blocked go by Lewis Lewis got a fingertip on it.
Again.
The University of Florida signee Kayla Lewis, six foot senior averaged 15 points A game this year has gotten off to a fast start.
She's already got a dozen and we're not even even out of quarter number one inside here is Miley.
Two more.
She's got four excellent lead pass, showed the hand where she wanted the pass to be thrown and it was thrown right on the money for a 19 point lead right here for the lady Bruins in the burnt orange.
Just trying to find a rhythm.
Yes they are and I mean this relentless pressure and the refs will let them play a little bit of the physical game here being played by both Fallbrook.
I look at Kristi Robinson six foot three, slowly creating some space there.
Excuse me, that's 32 it true the five six senior who knocks down her first bucket of another That was cold.
Yeah.
Chloe did a good job.
I mean, she had some some calmness about herself to continue to search and finally find the.
Okay pull up jumper.
No good from Olivia Gibbs Ball still bouncing around in there for Koski fights for it along with Gibbs and it looks like it will be north west Brookfield basketball You see the physical blade it I was speaking to you about out there I mean on loose balls, rebounds and even just playing defense.
And you have to think that the physical nature of the game slightly favors the Lady Panthers.
The cold Rays are stepping in for the Lady Panthers defensively for Southwest.
The Cavs look at number 25.
Jordy Cook, tough shot right there and McCurdy gets it to go.
That's where they have to go.
They've got to get the ball inside to their big people.
ROBINSON In the dirty, tough shot right here.
Boy, I tell you what, Taylor Lewis makes it look easy.
Yes, she could do it all to do it all 14 points for Lewis.
And then back on the other end we go.
This is inside.
That's going to be the first on Lewis 20.
So Lewis with 25 points the other night in that semifinal win over Forest Park, Alondra Rivers pitched in with ten.
Well, they're probably glad to see Lewis get a little breather.
Now, I want to say the Lady Bruins for points open right there that's already cook at the open look for Koski had the pass knocked out of bounds by Miley mean a lot of action here in this first quarter Mark I'll tell you what it sure has and the challenge took to the mental toughness of the lady Bruins.
But what they have that I've seen them play earlier this year and they're a team that will not go away and has great confidence in themselves and their abilities.
So this game far, far from over, even though they have have had a tough first quarter game off the bell cook with the basketball, try to feed it inside they do get it in to McCurdy who draws the whistle and the foul going to be on Miley.
So McCurdy, back of the line.
She's got four of the lady Bruins eight first quarter points.
Well, you can see that's what Coach Doc Brown wants that ball to go.
Yeah, right.
That's a maturity.
And good things happen.
Usually when the ball gets in her hands.
Look at the free throw.
I mean, she has almost perfect form on that.
The junior player still has another year left, five points and a rebound here in this first quarter.
Look at that.
Nicely done to a 26. score for Lisa McCurdy.
This whole turnover and a turnover momentum almost invariably always changes hands at some point throughout each quarter.
Coach Walton does not want to see that happen, but it seems like it's beginning to be a little factor here trying to feed that ball into Robinson.
But a nice job there by Warner, who takes it on the other end, lays it up too strong.
It wouldn't go loose.
Ball underneath jump ball call possession arrow Lady Bruins with 5 seconds left on the clock here in this first quarter Northwest Whitfield started out the season one and two and then rattled off 23 straight until losing the region championship.
They've come in here as the number three seed so they've had to go on the road.
The entire tournament shot up.
A buzzer would not go and that'll do it.
It's a little bit of hope right there for north west with Gilbert at Southwest.
The Cavs strong out of the gate of 1525 ten at the end of one.
We're back with period two and we return.
Thanks for watching.

Dave Gardner.
Mike is back with the Eric Connor Court sided.
Mike, how about that first quarter back and forth at boy that the lady Panthers look good.
They did the two things that stand out Dave the transition game which you have to get back and you can adjust to that now they made some long perimeter jump shots and Woodstock burger has to do this whole club is they're not going to make those long range shots all night.
If we can get back offensively, get out the layups and just get a hand up, we'll get back in this ballgame and on the other end, if you're Coach Walton, you want to tell your club to keep pouring it all, stay in the passing lanes, keep pressuring, keep playing physically and keep their confidence down.
Well, it could have been even worse after that first quarter.
Yes, it could have been better for us, which were able to get a couple of field goals there in the last couple of minutes.
But you see, it still gave the overplay the double team to just assault defensively and charge back the other way.
It goes great job by the Lady Bruins to stay to their target.
Well you credit baby Cooley for standing in there and taking that abuse She's right there sacrifices her body that the little lady stands right there and takes it.
She's a tough little point guard, though and she gives her ball club the possession back Coley a Columbus State signee.
Here's McCurdy.
Look at inside.
Turn around.
Robinson with the left hand would not go above 30 there with the follow wouldn't go two and three opportunities.
But Northwest Whitfield comes up empty now surplus to cap back on the other end up 15 three point shot on the way from Gibbs is off the mark Lewis had a handle on it momentarily but lost it there.
Lewis would like to see that ball moved around just a little bit more.
But that was a good shooter.
That drive that long range shot saw Cathie Walton on the bench eight season as the head coach, over 180 wins and a nice little running floater right there for number 32.
Emily True.
Yeah known for her defense but scores up on the other side Lewis leads in and another offensive foul Well that is just rally look at McCarty's really rally your teammates.
This is the second outstanding defensive play on a charge but before that we saw the Grizzlies play a nice drive right down the lane by Drew normally a defensive player but scored on that possession through Caruso headed to the next level, signing a shorter now it's Kohli working right here feeds it back in McCurdy open look unable to hit the baseline jumper Robinson had it ripped away Look at the lady passes with the ball Oh no.
Here's Rivers Kohli and Rivers would be a fun matchup to watch here today That one blocked underneath by Robinson and now all of a sudden Mike Northwest with that starting to climb their way back into this thing.
Well they are and we mentioned they're a tough team they're not going to just lay down Panthers continue to be aggressive but not quite getting the results they were earlier but still pushing and playing good D It's all the field goal percentage, 55% for Southwest, the fab, just 23 for the Lady Bruins here in this first half 2512 a score Chancy done back of the lineup for southwest of Cabo along with China Miley 33 Jada Williams will go out along with Kayla Louis will take another breather meanwhile northwest with the basketball and that's Bailey Coley the five for senior five foot four but very scrappy and plays bigger than she is.
She sure is scrappy and has excellent ball handling skills.
You can easily underestimate her abilities on this court.
Lady Bruins ranked fourth in the Georgia sports coaches poll.
Nice get an ice bucket inside Lady Bruins working their way back into it now 2514 And then on the other end Panthers answer what Briana Waters played an outstanding game on both ends And now here are the turnovers This is what really propels the attack for the Lady Panthers Another block by Robinson her second and now looks like they're going to call a foul.
Coach Doc Burger over there saying hey she got off all ball right here we'll take another look at it.
Well, here's the block right here.
And she thought it went off the arm of Warner, so she may have had a good argument.
She will lose that one.
However, as the Lady Panthers will get possession.
Jolie got a hand on it off the inbound, her out there trying to feed it into rivers as it goes out of bounds and it will be Lady Bruin Ball.
Let's take a timeout be right back with 446 to play in the half 2714 Southwest a cab on top broadcast of today's games is made possible in part by the following.
Thank you.
Can I help you today?
I know things just looking.
This is cute and so from the time you wouldn't do it there so don't do it here.
Sportsmanship.
It's up to you like they're the fashion police.
So you see the story again.
Southwest.
A cab leads at 2714 over Northwest.
WHITFIELD The Lady Bruins again the number three seed out of region seven southwest to, of course, tops in Region six squaring off today here in this for a girl's state championship.
Southwest, a cab with all kinds of playoff experience 18 playoff appearances five consecutive coming into today 12 sweet 16 appearances, eight elite eights five Final Fours, you name it.
This Lady Panthers program has gotten it done over the years by both of these coaches in their programs.
Jazz royalty in Georgia, high school basketball.
Shame that one of them has to lose, But both of them at the state championship, they go to the pinnacle here, trying to take home the crown.
You look at what southwest the cab has done and you look through.
They've lost through their four losses this year against the two teams will square off later on tonight.
And the five girls championship if they go across in Redan and there's one off the glass right there by for basket.
Yeah and on a nice backdoor penalty and Christie Robinson with a nice pass both of the front court players Robinson and McCarty good passes three point shot off the mark by Lewis one of the rare misses from number 22 here in this first half Oh we got 11 point ballgame now and Lady Bruins would like to see that in single digits.
If you're a coach, why would you want to get the ball in Lewis's hands right now Offense sputtering a little bit very talented team Oh man what a song fancy done Quick off the dribble why a low floater with the left hand he gets it to go you know and we were talking about coach coach Walton guarding against having such a big lead early on.
Seems like the pace of the game has slowed down a little bit.
I guess the Lady Bruins are starting to dictate that pace and yeah, maybe Southwest.
The Cavs has not been as aggressive defensively and it's kind of slowed things down here.
It has and that will see with this steal this defense really ignites them the turnovers the pressure has been consistent results has been a little different the longest Coach Walton has that defensive physical presence and pressure.
She's got to be happy and get good results.
Louis was 16 and Mike, I thought he was going to dunk.
It is a travel right there is one of the things you always want to do is dunk a ball.
She she says she might have to get in the weight room, wait till next year at the Florida to be able to do that.
But I thought she was kind of size it enough right there for a minute.
Okay.
Yes.
Well, she's just the first nominal player for a long time, and I'm sure they'll hate to see her leave that tremendous success to 55 left here before the break.
3116 Lady Panthers on top five Final Fours.
As you mentioned, four consecutive Final Fours for the Southwest to cap program since they won it last year against Fayette County in the title game right here on this floor is that three point shot rings out.
Kayla Lewis had 16 points in that ballgame last year and she's more than that right now.
She's at 16 right now with a good block by Miley.
I mean, that was precision execution offensively.
And Miley said, get it out of here.
So it's done.
Had a nice drive right there.
Play Bruins got a hand on it knocked it out of bounds It will stay with the lady Panthers when you look at Dunn who inbounds it this shot is on the way off the back of the arm wouldn't go for Gibbs and the lady Bruins finally out of there with it but Caskey with it inside and Crowley brings it out yes but every pass is contested.
You can take no pass for granted against this lady Panthers defense.
2 minutes of the half.
Well, that's a point.
Northwest WHISTLE hasn't had the basketball all that much.
They've made one or two passes.
They've gotten it knocked away or stolen away.
And that's where they really haven't been able to settle in for a great 40 cut shot.
And it's money nice looking shot about free throw line extended.
She comes off that screen and she looks to knock that shot down as she did right there.
So 3118 now it's a minute and a half play.
Lady Panthers ranked third in the Georgia prep country coach's call.
They graduated three starters from last year's title team, but reloaded, reloaded quickly.
And now it's Lady Bruin Ball WHISTLE and that's going to be 17,000 That will put the lady Bruins in a bonus right here and Coley will be shooting one plus goals here you look at Kohli's numbers this year 6.4 points as a senior three and a half steals four excuse me, three and a half assisted, one and a half steals per game.
Now, clearly the leader of the club, they run much better when the ball is in her hands, does a good job of getting the ball and leading the attack.
This time the front in their Lady Panthers now on the attack on the other end and boy, what a roll right there for Chancey Dunn.
I'm impressed with Dunn here in the first and her athleticism to the hoop so there's a big block from behind right there by number 24 or three on one I mean Waters played an excellent defense has led to offense for her.
You mentioned Dunn who just slashed to the basket almost at will and her ability to finish with that left hand really catching the defense off guard.
Tremendous job inside the 30 draw the whistle and that's going to put career at the line once again another foul on Taylor Lewis.
Well let's be careful that she got three fouls.
Oh, she certainly does.
And George Washington is going to help her be careful about getting her out of the ballgame.
Yeah, Apple, you see mccurdy's numbers and she makes good on the first worse.
Well, it did come out a lot different.
Now is number 14, Jada Hambrick, the five seven senior steps in with 58.5 left in the half.
The 30 just towers above everyone on the floor.
And she's got a good stroke at the free throw line for two.
Again, beautiful stroke.
From there, they so a 13 point ballgame as Lady Bird trying to narrow the gap right here.
That shot misses the rebound.
McCurdy, 45 seconds left and then knocked away.
Once again.
Southwest defense has been relentless here in this first half.
A foul on Coast Guard.
These are both came off the bench pressuring the basketball.
And of course, that helps, too, leading to the turnover.
Coach Brianna Warner has been everywhere in the passing lanes, everywhere over the court, three point shot all the way off the mark.
Wouldn't go for a moment, out of bounds and back to the Lady Bruins, 28.9 on the clock Northwest midfield.
Again, they only played ten games at home this year.
As we said, they were in the number three seats.
They've been on the road the whole time, ten of their 32 games on the road.
So they're certainly road tested play away from home, certainly nothing new.
They've got their work cut out for them in the second half though, against a Yeah.
Very good staff Was the captain.
Yes and on the other end Northwest wanting to travel right there that shot too strong a foul going to be called there on rivers Yeah Olivia Gibbs still looking for her jumper to go She's an outstanding shooter and unable to find that touch here in the early goings.
George are working hard right there.
Stockbridge trying to find a way to corral some of this energy that the lady Panthers have displayed, particularly on the defensive end buckets.
The first number 11, the Cole raiser.
The sophomore will check in for Coach Walton at Southwest to gather.
You got to look at it right there.
The are five six sophomore.
Are you going to get Cook's numbers again?
11 points, seven points, ten rebounds and two of two right there from the line.
Remember, she had 27 the other night in that big semifinal win over touchdown with seven three pointers at the buzzer, shot off.
The mark would not go.
And that's how you finish the first half.
An action packed first half that sees the Southwest, the Cavs Lady Panthers leading it 33 to 22 over the Northwest.
WHITFIELD Lady Bruins.
Let's go courtside.
Eric Cutter standing by hearing coach Northwest Whitfield keeps punching but you guys are hanging in there.
Talk about that momentum in the second half.
Well what I know northwest this is great team and they're not going to stop.
They're going to keep playing.
They're going to keep playing hard.
And we're just going to have to step it up.
We're going have to keep playing ball.
And talk about your defense early on.
Really helped you guys get out and run.
Yeah, we are.
We had a pretty good game plan and as long we stick with it, we're going to be okay is when we get away from our game plans.
We had trouble once.
All right, Dave, back to you.
All right.
Thank you, Eric.
And we will send it now to a break and then stay with us during the half year.
More to come from the arena when at Center at Southwest, a cab leading a 3322 after the first half of basketball.
She likes to move it, Move it.
You like to move it?
I like to move it, move it, move it, move.
We're going to get right back to some more of that great high school basketball action.
We're going to take 5 minutes right now.
That's right.
Just 5 minutes to get you to join the team.
And it's going to be a very important 5 minutes because if you want to watch more high school basketball, not this year.
We're going to continue to have the games for the rest of this year.
But for down the road, the future years and years down the road, you want to keep the great high school basketball coming on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
There's one way to do it, John.
How do you do that?
By becoming an MVP for GPB, one of our most valuable players.
And how do you do that?
By becoming a member, a part of the team here at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Plenty of different ways to do it.
Herb has been here a number of years, just about that long.
And I know one thing at the $35 level, you can become a member of Georgia Public Broadcasting.
That's right.
You get a foldable stadium cushion with the GPB logo to watch great high school football next year, which will be on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And then if you decide you can join at the $75 level, which is only six and $0.25 a month, you'll get that GPB roll up blanket and you'll also get the satisfaction of knowing you're keeping great high school sports on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
You know, John, we started doing some new things this year.
We've gone to the Webcasts.
You know, we did a football game of the week every game, every week this year, and high school football.
And we also did a basketball game of the week and tell them about the webcast coming up for basketball championship.
Well, you know, basketball championships and we've always streamed those.
But also before we got to the championships, you know, you got to have quarterfinals, you got to have semifinals before you determine your champions.
And that was on the Web as well.
And we've always thought that it's not just about television.
You have to talk about all the different ways and angles that you can get the product out there.
And the Internet is definitely one of the ways that's helped us get the product out there in a lot of different hours.
You know, you talk about television at GPB alone over the span of a year, just programing.
You're talking over 3000 hours of original programing.
Then add the 300 hours of championships that we've shown on GPB alone.
Then you add to that all the elements that we've done on the Internet.
So we've really are becoming the statewide voice for high school athletics.
But once again, we can't do it without your help being an MVP for GPB.
Herbes already talked about some of the thank you's.
Let's talk about some more of the thank you's and we talk about combos and you go to the $125 level and that's our first combo.
It's a GPB logo thermos for your favorite beverage, you stadium cushion, depending on what sports you like, whatever stadium you're in, indoors or outdoors, it works just as well in your wallet.
Throw blanket at $125 level a little over $10 a month for support there.
And you want to talk about combos?
We got mega combos.
I still don't know what the plural for thermos is.
There's two GPB logo thermoses.
You get two foldable stadium cushions and a roll up for a blanket, hundred and $75 level.
You do that by calling the number at the bottom of your screen, going on a secure server, the GPB Borg.
Or you can do it from your AT&T mobile phone by going pound GPB, become a member of the team, continue to be a member of the team, continue to show your support for the only statewide voice that high school athletics has heard, and that is Georgia Public Broadcasting.
It has been for 16 years and we want to do it for another 116 years.
Yeah, if you want to give somebody your email out there, John, I'm one of the people that know a little bit about the English language can probably help you with that person at GPB dot org.
There you go.
My mother was an English major and I still don't know what thermos plural is.
I don't either, but we're going to get back to that in a little while.
As soon as somebody tells us what the correct answer is.
But the correct answer right now is how do you help Georgia Public Broadcasting keep great high school sports on the air?
Well, that's a simple answer.
I even know the answer to that one simple question, because the answer is you go to your phone, you pick it up and you talk to one of the folks there and you say, I want to help high school sports stay on the air in Georgia don't forget, Georgia Public Broadcasting, along with all the public broadcasting, has voted seven years in a row by a poll.
The most trusted institution in the country.
So that means you can set your kids down in front of the television, as you know you do during the day.
You know, they're going to see quality programing throughout the day.
You don't have to worry about them being there.
They're going to learn.
They're going to learn values.
You can set them.
You can come home in the evening.
You can turn on the Jim Lehrer News Hour.
You know, you're going to get the Square story, not one side of the other, but the square truth, the news.
So keep Georgia Public Broadcasting's programing coming.
The way to do that, become a member?
Yes, we have the great thank you gifts.
But again, the thank you gift, the most valuable thank you gift, as always, is going to be what we do for you and what we do for your family and what we do for your community.
Go to your phone, become a member right now.
Let's go see some more high school basketball.

Live from Georgia Tech, the adventure prize, March 17th at seven gpb this is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, serving all of Georgia is Garner, Mike, Dave Garner, Mike Glenn back here with you live at the Arena AG at Center 3322.
Your half time score as we get set to start the second half.
And Mike, again, an action packed first half as we take a look at some of the some of the highlights right here.
Again, Karla Lewis, off to a great start for Southwest camp.
Well, it's been her show.
I mean, she got out ahead of the pack, getting the lay hands, playing defense.
And take a look at this one.
Dave just stops and Fox from three pointer really set the tone early for her ballclub.
Did Karla Lewis.
But the defense was the key for them.
And Warner played good defense and here reacting and counteracting some of that, I should say, as Robin saw a good pass from McCarty and you also saw a nice penetration right here from Cooley who led the ball club.
Well, stop knocks down a little jump shot there and and fighting back Were the Bruins able to get to the middle on occasions trying to fight their way back to you look at the numbers of the first half again field goal field goal percentage right there 42% for Southwest to cap turnovers nine for again nine for the lady Bruins right there Fast break points do you see it eight oh blocks ten blocks for the lady Panthers in that first half and of course Louis the 16 points 78a field goal is right there.
Well Eric Cutter standing by with Coach Doc Berger to talk a little bit about what's going to have to happen for the Lady Bruins in the second half.
Eric second quarter, talk about getting that momentum back at the end of the second quarter.
You know, I felt like, you know, we did a good job in that second quarter.
We outscored on 12 eight.
We just got to make sure that we come out and do a little bit more in the third and fourth quarter.
But yes, we let them get too big of a lead there, but we fouled back and so we're going to continue to fight back.
So again, Coach Doc Burger and the Lady Bruins of Northwest midfield working their way back into the game trailing by just 11.
But they're going to have to do something to handle that Southwest to cap pressure.
Well, you saw that statistic, Dave, of the turnovers, the blocks, those really were the determining factors in the ballgame.
So you've got to make better passes.
You got to get back door lanes and you got to get the ball to your big people.
If you're the Lady Bruins out of the gate issue, McCurdy puts up a shot, misses goes out of bounds but pretty finished the first half with eight points as she picked it up there a little bit.
Meanwhile, Southwest, the cat was led by Kayla Lewis with 16 points which equaled her output from last year's state championship game and that win over Fayette County.
She's already there and one half of basketball here today.
Taylor's been very active in every aspect of the game.
So put back right there for Lewis, who starts where she left off in the first half.
They show the judge better here in this ballgame.
3522 Did they have Garner, Mike Lynn with the Eric Hunter, courtside along with the rest of the GPB crew, live at the arena at Gwinnett Center.
That's the first of four live championship games today.
Yes, of course, it'll be followed by the 40 boys game.
And then later on tonight, it's five action for right now for a girls state championship has taken the spotlight.
And there's a big three point shot by Alondra Rivers.
It just keeps us going.
Yeah.
I mean, as soon as you try to focus your defense inside one of the Lady Panthers Rivers more than once here today, we'll see the long jumper knock it down.
Trying to Miley going to get called right there for the foul.
Kayla Lewis her teammate over to talk where they're trying to keep her up and encouraged early on here in this third quarter off the inbound McCurdy high off the glass would not go Robinson underneath great work right there to Coley Robinson a majority they're big players inside are both good passes and you have to be a good passer against this defense They because they're overplaying passing lanes causing turnovers and getting steals and it looked like that Warner's foot was on the line right there so a turnover back to the lady Bruins Southwest to cap making their fifth consecutive state playoff appearance their fourth consecutive final four playing for their third consecutive state championship here this afternoon.
Well Coach Walton is just create a culture of winning championships at Southwest The Gap looking to continue today Allen picked up partially blocked and look like Jordy Kirk trying to throw that shot up wouldn't go rivers on the other end leads in puts up a tough shot ball bouncing around in there Rivers somehow comes out of there with it.
Lewis on the other end the shot off the back of the iron no good taken away and on the move is Jordy Cook.
She lets the rest of her team catch up and they'll work the halfcourt.
545 to play for a period three point shot on the way from Calais and it's their man.
Nicely done.
Knocks down the three seven points for Bailey Crowley and now it's 3827 back to an 11 point game Fancy done pull up jumper good looking shot she's got eight Oh you've got to love what Dunn is doing I mean first he shows you the slash all the way to the basket then shows that she can pull up on a jumper.
His left foot fires on the other end off the mark, finally into the hands of Lewis, and that's A-plus.
The cab will push the other in here.
This kicks it out open.
Look done.
And she goes in and out.
Tough break right there.
But Southwest Cat keeps it alive.
Give us a little general just all over the floor for the Lady Panthers.
Getting the ball and getting the ball to the shooters.
We haven't seen the Lady Panthers slow down the pace very much for them to back out and play a half court.
We've seen a lot of that.
It has to do with Bey not but less these lady Bruins can somehow slow them down a little bit on at least one end of the floor there is Louis at the line the first one is good and we're going to look at the six foot senior 19 points here today eight of ten from the floor and four boards.
Fantastic ballgame.
She right up half of her team's points.
But it's her ballclub and so far it's been her game this time out on the floor for 46 to play 40 to 27.
We'll see on the other side of the break.
Stay tuned.
More high school basketball coming up.

Southwest to cab outscored Northwest Whitfield 9 to 5 so far here in this third period 40 to 27.
The advantage for the defending state champs it's the lady Bruins with the basketball though trying to cut into that lead.
Dave Gardner, Mike Gwinn Eric Conner with the court sign here today live on GPB for the four April state championship game for a boys game coming up a little bit later on here this afternoon off the transition, Chancey Dunn breaks double figures she's got ten Roy Chance the Jets running that wing perfectly and laying that one up and in but again it's scoring off turnovers They the pressure defense has been tremendous and has been the really difference in the ball game for the lady Tampa tough shot right there would go for Emily true northwest Whitfield again with just three losses on the year they lost to Logan ville in overtime Parkview and Hillgrove that Hillgrove game of course, was the region seven championship Northwest which would upset in that ballgame.
So they had to come in here as a three seed and they've been on the road the entire time starting season one and two, rattle off 23 straight before falling in that region championship.
But boy, they have looked good in the postseason.
Yes, they have.
And right now, Lady Panthers being stalled a little bit look like trying to decide exactly which play they're winning.
This is as slow as we've seen them on the attack all night long.
Good shot.
They don't know how to react to that.
It looks like it's their own doing that.
And I don't know if they're trying to draw them out of that zone.
Defense I think not.
Well, it's nice to catch your breath every once in a while.
As you see Dunn going in there.
She draws the whistle.
Lady Bruin faithful, not liking that call.
But either way, Dunn goes to the line right here.
Well, they can look at it, Rob.
I mean, just a beautiful job.
And you saw the hole right there.
Yeah.
And then and Dunn, such an excellent slasher good athlete slashes to that basket and hard to defend Dunn good on the first couple come out of line up they're going to look at number 43 that's Corey Clemons the five eight junior end of the lineup for the first time today.
Clemons mixes it up some inside.
Also good athlete.
So coach Scott Berger looking to change the flow of the game a little bit.
A little different position out there now with a dozen at Wyden's demands of the 4627 as we near the three minute mark at three and number three true passes back out to Crowley.
Oh, nice.
Yes, nine points for Bailey.
Crowley Southwest the cab works on the other end still in that zone defense So a jumper right here off the mark let's go rebound Clement's telling you by Clement she's a tough competitor there He gets that rebound today Defensive excellence by Southwest.
It's happened indeed ten steals 11 blocks and boy that's tough to go up against.
It is insurmountable odds being called by their defense.
Nice job there.
Defensively Northwest Whitfield had a play that were knocked away and the foul is going to be called on Louis.
I do believe not only for honor if that's the case, but it's tough competitor very physical in there loses the contact.
But that's the kind of effort and energy that Scott Berger needs to try to rally her ballclub and appreciate the effort she's got from Clemens off the bench.
Clemens at the line right here.
Take a look at Clemens averages four and a half points, two and a half rebounds.
Just a junior.
This is on the first and the throw Jada Williams in for Southwest the Cavs five six senior will give Lewis a break.
Taylor Lewis again will sit with those four fouls.
I'll tell you what the lady Bruins couldn't be happier about that.
That's for sure.
And last time it was such a short break they didn't even have a chance to miss very first day Clemens comes up empty for the Lady Bruins on the other end.
It's remarkable to think as Eric alluded to at top of the broadcast here today that's apples to tab has not lost a playoff game since the oh seven quarterfinals against Marist.
My goodness.
You know, they've eliminated this Northwest Whitfield team the last two seasons.
So it's almost like deja vu all over again as they meet yearly for their annual haul.
At this time, it just happens to be in the state championship game.
All right.
That's right.
That's right.
We're going to look at Kobe because one year is the goal.
Under 2 minutes here in the third quarter.
You could tell that the lady Bruins recognize what's at stake right here.
And they've really seemed to have picked up the pace a little bit in this ballgame.
Yes, indeed.
And they still playing hard.
And this is a trying kind of time for them.
I mean, emotionally, you're down big and you're getting pressure defense all over the floor.
Can't find a hole in that defense, but you're still strapped in time out on the floor a full time out called here, as you see Coach Doc Berger tending to Emily.
True.
Yeah.
Well, you ever wonder how the Masters came to be in Augusta?
Here's a hint.
General Sherman played a role.
That's right.
Watch it.
Just his master planned a GPB original Easter Sunday, April 4th at 8 p.m.. GPB Television.
Worth sharing you big golf fan, Mike?
I'm not a very big golf fan.
I'm I am a fan of history, though.
And that really caught my attention.
Wanted to know how Jill William Tecumseh Sherman played a role in the founding of the Augusta National.
Again, Easter Sunday at 8:00 right here on GPB.
Should be a very interesting look there, indeed.
One of the most prestigious, if not the most, most prestigious tournament in all the country will be there.
We're get a look at the lady Bruin Cheerleaders in the house here today looking a little concerned right now, but they're still fired up.
Yes, indeed.
Yes, indeed.
Auburn, meanwhile, the Lady Panthers all smiles here for almost a full three quarters of basketball.
So after the timeout, I shot, it will be Emily.
True at the line you see what she's done today?
Two points, three rebounds again true.
A senior headed to the next level.
Excellent defensive play.
They probably the best defensive player on the ballclub but she will chip in on the offensive end, too when the need arises.
And she's made some contributions here this afternoon.
The second one on the way and it's good.
Two of two for Emily true the five six senior and now number 25 Jordy Kirk steps back of the lineup as two comes and it's a 46 to 31 ballgame Full court pressure now we're seeing coach Scott Burger really wants to extend this defense and see if she can create a few turnovers.
So her ball club almost got one there and traveling.
So we haven't seen a lot of traveling so far in this ball game.
But that time Rivers went up top the pass, took an extra step right there and that was the turnover.
Well, that pressure will cause you to do that.
You don't normally do.
And that pass almost went out of bounds.
Rivers was barely able to catch a day right in front of us, but their travel trying to get it by were merely knocked away by Warner, who got a hand on it.
That shot from Cook would not go this what foul again for Casspi number 15 in the lineup will head to the line here with capacity again listed at five foot eight almost looks bigger than that but he is certainly really the first player off the bench to write north west.
Whitfield teams that had an excellent season yeah that plays at both ends of the court too defense and offense that knocked down that free throw.
We're going to look at her points today one of four from the field four rebounds for the senior and a couple of points make it three points for Taylor for baskets.
There's the pressure again and trying to force another turnover on the other end to strong goes Dunn follows would not go McCurdy rebound quite easy McCurdy with eight points has not scored here in the third quarter and they're going to have to get more involved in the fourth quarter if they had a chance.
Yes, they will wrestle with what a tough shot.
Popper Koski, Boise, that went in off the glass.
But again, just playing hard, I mean, playing at a much faster tempo than they normally play, but getting decent results right now, that's a tough field goal.
Indeed.
On the other end now works.
Beautiful pass.
Oh, gives just a beautiful bounce pass through the defense to and lay that off to Dunn who may be the best finisher on their ballclub of course Lewis does every day well Jancee Dunn has 14 here's a shot partially blocked it looked like back on the other end is done all alone on the other end of the floor lays it up in it at the buzzer and it counts.
Chancey Dunn will end the third period with 16 and southwest to Campbell in the third period with a 5234 leads will step aside be back with the fourth and final period in this for a girl's championship.

Dave Gardner, Mike Gwin here with me, Eric Hunter, courtside as we head to the fourth and final eight minute period.
And this for a girls title game between a cab and Northwest.
WHITFIELD And right now, Coach Walton, starting this fourth quarter with Kayla Lewis on the bench but all other for starters here, Jim, has that position now.
But he has a big lead and can afford to sit her superstar down.
Well, 3 minutes to start this quarter, three point shot short would not go off.
He'll lose the game with those four fouls is really what initially got her out the ballgame And it's she's been out pretty much ever since.
But Northwest Whitfield's unable to take advantage of that.
And that's very true.
A 16 point ballgame.
Lady Panthers on the other end buying for their third straight state title and showing a patience again.
Days have taken a little time off the clock and of course, without Lewis in that lineup on the halfcourt set don't have that strong great go to person to just look for so having a hard time finding an opening now in and out right there for Dunn Rebound Mccurdy's been kind of quiet she went scoreless in that third period.
Well the Pacers kind of picked up offensively and they've not really included with her there.
She has that nice looking shot but can't get that one to go rebound Dunn back on the other end again Lewis with 25 points the other night against Forest Park and that semifinal matchup samples was the tab able hang on in that game 6155 for Spark was a late surge there when it looked like the game was out of control, it made it a lot closer.
The Lady Panthers would have liked that they were able to hang on to see Dunn back at the line right here with 16 points hit that shot right at the end of the third period.
And she's chasing her teammate, Kayla Lewis, for a game high here.
This time, the first second one on the way.
You're going to look at her numbers here today, the senior with three rebounds to go along with it, seven of 12 from the field, one of two on that trip.
She's got 17.
Yeah she's played a fantastic ball game Both ends off the dribble right here Tough shot would not go for Emily true ripped out of there by Warner Lady Panthers were at the other end of the floor That's A-plus to tab beat Sequoia in round one Put up 85 points in that game and there's a shot right there for Warner and just perfectly executed play Warner coming up from the weak side saw an opening flash right there called the ball and knocked it down.
What both of these ball clubs just so well coached here with a three point shot for Emily.
True.
That's a very nice shot.
Good rotation on that shot.
Knocks it down back on the other end.
Lady Panthers will pull back out here a little bit and run some clock as we hit the five and a half minute mark A great look inside to try of Miley boy Dunn to displaying the whole package here this evening.
Back on the other end Coley picks it out and other three put it on the line right there is a three point shot.
It wouldn't go, though.
And now Alonzo Rivers on the other end with the lay in cutting down the lane for two Boy just so many weapons with this lady football club though Dave I mean they can spread the floor, hit the three point shot take it to the basket I mean that just phenomenal weapons diverse weapons.
And they have been the aggressor tonight really on both ends of the floor and does have the big lead pass.
That's kind of the way they've been really all throughout the postseason.
You know, they've had some scares.
I mean, that Loganville game was a three point game in the quarter finals, but they've done what they needed to do to yeah, to win close ball games and they've shown a lot of character along the way.
It hadn't all been easy had all been blowouts.
No.
And you have to really give Coach Walton so much credit for what he's done here.
He is a historically a traditional powerful football program and school and track program in school.
And she has just redefined Southwest DeKalb High School as a lady powerhouse.
Christie Robinson was two.
It's been relatively quiet here tonight to give Robinson the six three senior who also complements McCurdy well there.
And that's that giant frontcourt that we've talked about.
But they've only scored 12 points combined here tonight with a little over 4 minutes left in the game.
Well, that defensive coach, Walton's Lady Panthers just really took them out of the ballgame.
The pressure, the turnovers, the steals.
Yeah, the transition offense has to find a game.
Robinson headed to the next level committed to Sanford in the lane right here two points Jordy Cooke her first point since the first half she's got six and it's 5741.
It's still a 16 point ballgame and the Bruins have been unable to really climb any closer than that.
They were trailing by 15 after the first period and it's pretty much been a stalemate ever since that time.
McCurdy came out of there with it one and done on that possession for the Lady Panthers.
It's A-plus Khattab beats the boys it it put up 85 and scored 46 against Fayette County in a rematch of last year's state title game.
It was in round two and only put up 46, which was one of their lowest outputs.
The year came back edged Logan Beal by three and then of course beat Forest Park to be here in the championship game.
Meanwhile Northwest Whitfield put up 60 against Chamblee in round one and the real turning point was against number one Mayes in round two winning 5753.
And that was a huge confidence builder.
Yes for Coach Doc Rivers team.
After that, the Lady Bruins knew they could compete with anybody in the state.
There's a blocking foul well is in the game trying to take that charge Scott Berger thought her defensive player was there She'll lose that argument however as the slasher Dunn finds her way in the lane again.
And now back to that free throw line.
Dunn has had a remarkable game.
Yeah, 18 points here tonight.
Dunn only averages about 5.2 points a game.
So she's well above her average.
Yes, indeed.
What she's done this year, the second one on the way and it's good, nothing but bottom.
What a beautiful mixture of talent itself was the cap.
The post player does this perimeter players that the defense everybody over plays good hustle right there and that was Lewis on that overplay and it will be Lady Panther basketball with 309 left and last year Northwest Whitfield reached the elite eight as you mentioned Mike Brooks they lost to southwest to cap 5740 the year before that and they made it to round two.
It lost to who?
Other than Southwest, the Cavs.
So three years in a row, they've met up with this Lady Panther team in the postseason.
And of course, tonight it's all for the title or as a two point shot put on the line for China Miley.
But she's got hate Miley predominantly inside but so she has some range on her jump shot as well 20 point lead that one off the fingertips of Emily true and out of bounds Back to the lady Panthers and I'm still not sure their crowd is sat down here tonight in there Hold up those three fingers again.
Yes they are man the three peat, they're going for it.
And of course, the northwest WHITFIELD fans still standing up.
They got out of school early today.
The whole community here to support their team and, a good team.
It is, but a tough game for them here this afternoon.
Lady Bruins, of course, Northwest Whitfield Whitfield County Tunnel Hill, Georgia right outside the Dalton area there again yes Region seven southwest to Cavs course added dictator and region six B coming in here at 26 and four overall the world teams talked about their losses this year the four losses to Norcross and Redan who will meet later on tonight.
The five a game.
The other two were two.
Marist and Overton, a powerhouse program out of Memphis.
This.
Yes, indeed.
So, I mean, Coach Walton didn't shy away from the good competition.
No one there, five, eight or whatever for Memphis of State.
And it just makes the club better.
I mean, they just handle that competition there.
They are confident, they are aggressive.
They play that suffocating defense and very difficult to defend and to beat.
Well, you know, we talked about the lady Bruins, you know, coming out of the gate a little slow this year.
They lost two of their first three ballgames.
But you you don't want to be playing your best basketball at the beginning of the year anyway.
You want to be peaking right now.
And that's what it's all about, is you learn as you go and continue to get better.
And that's what this ball has done.
28 of them that way.
Or walking?
No.
Alondra Rivers, nice penetration.
She's also put together an outstanding game and Rivers now in double figures as well becomes the third different lady Panther in double figures here tonight.
There's good work underneath Robinson to score those two Robinson's got six points and it's taken away right there still going big block by McCurdy underneath Boy Jackson underneath.
Still it takes the heat to get it out three point on the way off the mark by cook you wouldn't go kept alive knocked out of bounds It will be Lady Bruin basketball and rivers pressuring Take a look at this action inside though I mean look at this intense It's fierce Boy that's some competitors that I don't know how to describe that sequence.
Take away blocks.
It was right down it.
No, you don't take it.
Well, number 20 kids will step into the ballgame.
And we're going to look at the game coming up right here.
Again, Mays at 22 and four, taking on Miller at 26 and six for the for a boys state championship.
Again, stay tuned live right here on GPB wall to wall action as part of championship weekend And I'll tell you these lady Panthers, whether you're starting or coming off the bench, pressure is a way of life.
Yeah everybody pressures from start to finish What a program what a way to play and what skills and aggressive players does coach Kathy Walton have at Southwest.
You can Jada Hambrick becomes the sixth different Lady Panther to record her name on the scoreboard tonight And there's two for Jordy Cook on the other end who has eight as we go inside of a minute and a whistle and a foul on the floor.
But when you think about it, Dave, what a way to finish your high school career when you can say, well, we won the state championship the last three years out there and you don't want to be the senior class to say that we lost it after winning very right the Yeah, exactly, exactly.
You can't disappoint.
But it is going to be a it's a great way to go out for both of these teams right here, especially those seniors when you look down northwest Whitfield field roster for Koski only Kirk Cook true Robinson all those seniors right there that of course the southwest the tab you've got the river is playing her final game Hambrick Moten Lewis Dunn Warner Jada Williams Tyler Miley I think we've got them all in there now.
But I tell you what, it's just been a great ball game here today.
And things didn't go well for Northwest.
WHITFIELD But they got a great nucleus coming back.
They'll be a fun team to watch, too.
Yes, they surely have, man.
And they certainly have to be proud of all the success they've had all year long.
And they played extremely hard and played their best here tonight.
And that's all you can ask for.
That's all Coach Steinberger wants, and that's all the people that support us.
The Northwest would the want as well.
The celebration is already on in the stands for this South resident care program.
Boy, they'll be partying in Decatur here tonight.
And the that ought to be fun and the and oh, a back for it right there.
They're going to call back over the line there for, say, to Hambrick.
They're going to look at Lewis's numbers here tonight as he steps out of the game.
20 points, eight of 11 from the floor and six rebounds for the six foot senior.
I'd say that's a pretty good day's work.
That's a wonderful day's work and a wonderful careers word for that young lady.
And she's got the t shirt with the three time state champions on it.
Fantastic.
And one year to the University of Florida, 20 seconds left.
And you look at Sidney Roberts, number three in the ball game for Northwest, which got her shot short and off the mark.
Also number 12, Kayla White, the juniors six footer, the Southwest stab coach Walton looking on final seconds playing out right here.
Ball will stay in play and that'll do it the final here today southwest of cap 65 Northwest Whitfield 45 and the Lady Panthers are your 2010 for a girls state champions.
Yeah.
We'll be right back.
