Live from the Georgia Dome is the semifinals of the Class four Division.
Tonight's nightcap features the War Eagles of Maris coming at tonight's ballgame at 12 and one and the Raiders of East Paulding.
They two at 12 and one on the campaign and this for a semifinal match up from the Georgia Dome should be a good one and we welcome you inside the booth.
Good afternoon and evening, everybody.
Charles Ward alongside Mark Lasseter.
Glad you could join us.
John Nelson in a moment.
Mark, if we had the tag this ballgame, which is the fifth out of ten broadcasts from the Georgia Dome this weekend, this one, we could easily tag us two teams married at the hip.
Let's go ahead and tag this one.
Something old, Maris, which has been here 22 years, something new, East Paulding, something borrowed, head coach John Reed all the way from Tennessee and something blue, which is which wedding these teams will be feeling at the end of the evening.
Well, let's go ahead and start out by talking about something old, and that would be the Marist War Eagles, their eighth semifinal appearance tonight.
Their eighth semifinal appearance and their key by their big running back, Preston Lyons.
He's the man on offense, £225 durable.
He's a second half back, averaging 7.6 yards per carry on the other side of the ball for East Paulding Jennings Hester.
He's got to be the back.
That is going to be tough to stop.
The linebacker didn't have to.
I should say, linebacker 111 tackles.
His mission is to seek, zip and destroy.
Of course, the War Eagles of Marist, coached by Alan Chadwick.
We caught up with him prior to the ball game to get his thoughts about tonight's contest.
Well, on offense, we're our wishbone triple option team.
We run the option about eight or nine different ways.
We really like to run the football with our fullback, Preston Lyons, who's a great football player.
For us, our second option in our attack is our quarterback, Gary Marshall.
We pitch it occasionally, not very often, but certainly that's part of the offense as well.
Mixing a few play action passes when the defense is really playing downhill and trying to stuff the run against us.
On defense for a43 attack team.
We really want to try to play downhill, put some pressure on them, try to try to take our line of scrimmage and play in the other side of the ball and try to make things happen in the backfield.
Mix in a few coverages to change things up, off the edge and in the secondary.
But certainly we want to play aggressive and the main thing we gotta to do is tackle.
And if we feel like if we tackle, we've got a chance to win.
And Coach Chadwick with his 250th win last week and then the semifinal and the quarter finals against Creekside.
So congratulations to him.
But it'll be tough to get to 51 against the Raiders of East Paulding tonight, who feature a very balanced offense, a running.
Pass feature, very balanced offense led by their quarterback Chaz Henry.
Henry is 631 95.
He's a player, has got to be aggressive on offense, but you got to watch the fact that he's throwing seven interceptions this season as well.
He holds two school records.
And also the punter and kicker for that Raider.
Team.
Exactly.
And the other player on offense is running back Steve Dell, since he's coming in with a tender ankle, you're going to have to watch him.
First year player at running back.
He's had an outstanding season to be his first year in the backfield.
John Reed is in his first year at East Paulding.
We caught up with him prior to the night's contest as well and got his thoughts about their game plan.
Okay.
Offensively, East Paulding is a pretty well balanced offense.
We're going to run the ball in formation, we're going to throw it around the play action passes and some draw passes and and some of the things that we do, the short passing game defensively, you're going to see some aggressive, you know, good high school football players with a pretty good secondary.
We're playing the four three defense and and we've been pretty successful this year.
We've got a good turnover margin.
Of course.
Coach Reed is in his first year at East Paulding, but no stranger to championships.
He's won two over in Tennessee and now committed to East Paulding.
As our pre nuptials continue from the Georgia dome but it's toss it down to our best man, John Nelson.
Thank you, Charles.
John Reid's foul was to fix the East Paulding program, 37 wins in the last 14 years leading into this season.
So every week has been a different first ever for the Raider Club.
And he also knows that he has put his players in positions to where they can win ballgames.
He brought them here to the dome on Tuesday to get over Domantas.
We'll see if that work they practiced at McEachern on Wednesday to get used to the term head coach Alan Chadwick of Mirrors.
He knows that with this tight group of 40 seniors he can knock out a couple of streaks.
As my benediction comes to an end, Charles and Mark Marist has lost four of their last five here at the Dome and six of their last seven in the semis.
They're looking to fix that tonight.
Thanks, John.
Coming up, the guest of all arrived.
The bands are already here.
The only question that remains is which of these two teams will jump the broom.
Into before a final look around?
The answer is coming up next on GPB, starting next.
We are live in the Georgia Dome.
As you see, the East Paulding Raiders getting set for this football game.
And now come the war.
Eagles embarrassed both teams out of the pre-game warm ups and set for this semifinal contest determine who will advance to the finals next weekend.
Both teams at 12 and one on the campaign.
Marist winners of the region six East Paulding very surprising this year with a with five a champ finished as well.
Alan Chadwick, head coach of the Marist War Eagles in his 22nd campaign, 350 wins.
You alluded to that the pre game playing against first year man John Reed.
For east Baltimore.
John Reed mentions he has a great coaching staff and kids that refuse to lose.
Kevin Lanier and Preston Lyons will stand deep for the War Eagles as the Raiders of East Paulding will kick it away.
To start us off, Chaz Henry, quarterback kicker and I get used to that name.
You'll hear it a lot tonight.
Chaz had to get used to wearing a different shoe as well because the coach said, you're not gonna be wearing that putting shoe as much as you're going to need those field turf shoes.
Don't treat us kick it away something in the end zone or there touchback deep kick by Henry he.
Is going on to the college level as a kicker evidence there but that deep kick on the kickoff in the war Eagles led by quarterback Gary Marshall 652 yards in the air on the season five touchdowns.
They do a lot of their work offensively on the ground but Marshall a very good general.
For the war Eagles.
First and ten just underway from the Georgia Dome.
The those with the.
Shotgun set slotted to the top of your screen on the ground.
They go there, go right side with the option.
Marshall's got a pitch, man and keep it himself.
Back up, pass the throw near the 32 yard line.
London right here on the stop for the Raiders.
Take a look at the starting lineup for the war Eagles up front colt is the center.
He goes both ways for man.
I spent a lot of good help up front with him as well in the backfield.
Lyons is the guy you got to keep an eye on.
We highlighted him in the pregame show Schuster and Linear do a lot of blocking for him wideout Greenwood only four catches this season but is a threat to catch the football when they need to pass it first down pick up Marshall this time with the option pitch right corner looking for some room with the carry.
It was linear.
Linear got about six or perhaps five or six on that play.
Fourth or eagles defensively for the Raiders upfront Bowles Tomlin.
What Tyra impressed my freshman as a guy upfront that they Warrigal is going to have to keep an eye on linebacking corps Reed is the leader there.
Ryan and Reinier right here just made the stop for the warriors and the quarterbacks are Gaylord and Davis.
He safeties Gonzalez and Anderson for the Raiders second down four on the ground They hit it with a. Dove play look at Kelly is lions lions works his way inside the 35.
Down to the 33 yard line.
And it's just straight ahead.
Football for the war Eagles thus far with good success.
Charles the center, Kevin Cote only six foot £197.
You can notice his leverage right in the middle of your screen as he gets low off the snap and allows that off tackle run for the huge game.
Lions with a good surge with a big hole to run the high career leading rusher for Marist, 3362 yards and 56 touchdowns.
He also leads the school in the number of touchdowns first and ten for the war Eagles their first possession they're going to keep it in the belly of lions lions got it.
Near the 30 yard line and a surge by the Raiders up front.
They push them back.
Football was loose momentarily.
The thing to watch for lions as well.
Charles, is not just the first half, but he's one of those backs that in the second half will tend to wear a team down.
Mary's is happy to keep giving the ball to last week had 75 yards in the second half alone which led to their victory.
The Lions, a three year starter, led the team in rushing all three years second down eight to go for the horrible first down Marshall left side gives it the lions inside.
The 40 the bounce back by the raider defense good surge for the linebackers and the defensive men up front.
For these Falvey.
Give credit to Trevor Dow number 61 in the middle of your screen wearing the black and silver of the Raiders blue do an excellent job as Morris loaded up the backfield going with a full house look not able to carve out any distance.
So this third and long call is going to be an important call for Marist at the top of this ballgame.
Marshall Completing 45% of his passes for the war, Eagles will see at this.
An opportunity that they do go up top third, down six, pitched.
Right side to Louisville.
He got it down near the 16 yard line and enough for the war eagle first down.
But the bad news for Marist is instantly number 27.
David Knot is holding his right ankle, took a shot right at about the 15 yard line and you could see that he was not getting up quickly.
First down pickup on the right side.
Led Air war, eagles still maintaining their theory of, look, we're going to run it until you show us otherwise.
The stop is nothing fancy.
Just rock them sock and football seeming to be right or right side heavy.
The last part of the previous play North was actually trying to throw a block, goes to the sideline under his own power.
Little bit of persistence.
Good to see him get up and get to the sidelines early in this ballgame, though, Charles Morris making an early statement that we can run the ball.
They pick up the first down football, now down to the 16 yard line of the Raiders.
We're at 904 remaining first quarter and the possession has been all four Eagles at this point.
To see Marshall to the line of scrimmage on the.
Ground misdirection it's linear right side got it inside the 15 down near the 12 yard line.
For the first time in this series Mary's so look with a slot receiver to the near sideline they're developing a series of plays showing a lot of different looks early in this ballgame.
I would be surprised he didn't try to set up a short passing play off that formation.
And Kevin Lanier, the junior in the backfield with lions, doesn't get a lot of press.
So he goes both ways for the Warriors and a nice run on the previous play second down a six from areas on the ground right side lions are they'll keep it Marshall inside the five fighting on one hand got it down near the two perhaps one yard line.
You wait for the ball fake just like I did because Blaine's really executed the fake.
Well, he covered it up as if he had the ball, got his head down towards the line of scrimmage, and everybody went for the fake I.
Don't feel so bad.
Spotter Richard Mustard was right to it.
And between us he was with me as well.
So when Richard does it, it's all good, buddy.
Excellent job of ball faking by man.
I thought this first series.
Take a look at David ignored at the sideline was injured on the play now the shoulder pads off an indication he may be done for the semifinal.
Contest tonight not certain about that as we go on the ground this time it is the press.
The lions are.
Marshall kept it again and pulled down good defensive work by the Raiders.
Timing on that play Charles just a little bit off compared with the previous play you could see the ball fake into the center of the field.
The quarterback was just behind where he was trying to get the ball to the running back.
Fortunate for Mary's, that play didn't have an uglier conclusion.
Second down goal to go from the six yard line of the Raiders.
First possession of this semifinal ballgame war eagles threatening deep in raider territory Marshawn they're going to go option left side he'll tuck it back to the inside inside the five down there the two later on the stop for East Paulding.
There's some players that are active and always around the ball that time.
Number 26, Kevin Linear was trying to get a block downfield carving out space as this third down and goal call coming up embarrassed.
We're already midway through the first quarter.
We were talking to John Nelson before we hit the air and John was saying that if Mary's had an opportunity to run the ball, we could quite conceivably be out of here in an hour and a half.
Right now, that clock is really running as a war.
Eagles have walked it down the field.
Third and goal to go on the ground, a goal in L.A.. Oh, they kick it on the keeper back side.
It's Marshall for the touchdown.
I'm all tied up Marshall what a great fake right side kept it rolled it left side for the.
Touchdown and an excellent job by Lanier up carrying through the fake because there were two players from East Paulding that actually went after the running back on the fake once the black jerseys go after the running back and actually try to get a hit on them as to the near sideline the quarterback.
Scores excellent ball fake by Gary Marshall the senior quarterback Gallagher on now to try to pull in after Gallagher 39 of 43 an extra point attempts left that one well and Marist leads it seven nothing after a run by quarterback Aaron Gary Marshall in this first quarter from the Georgia dome well step aside for a timeout Mary's leading at seven nothing a keeper a left side by quarterback Gary Marshall and the point after And Mark Maritz leads it seven nothing over the Raiders of East Paulding Nice drive by the war Eagles Take a look at the time elapsed off the clock 5 minutes 39 seconds later, air drive.
Well executed drive Marist wants to maintain the ball position.
They don't want to have any type of turnover.
The only play that was a little bit suspect was at third down play that they had a little bit of trouble on the exchange or the ball fake.
But on the net a picture perfect drive by Marist.
Exactly what Coach Edwards had with want it in exactly what coach John Reid did not want his raiders getting set to go on offense for the first time tonight, Collier and Smith stand deep for his body as Gallagher gets set to kick it away for Marist.
Mary's making their eighth semifinal appearance tonight.
Winners of two state championships, one at the four level in 2003 and one at the three eight level in 1989.
Gallagher with the deep kick, Beaumaris will not have a run back on that one as well.
John Nelson at the break standing by at field level Malik.
Injury update on naught he is done shoulder pads are off I asked him about it.
He said he heard it pop.
And as you and I both know, Charles and Mark, that's not good news.
He's done for the night.
No question about it.
Now, they so a short night for North Chasse Henry, the quarterback for East Paulding, 1700 yards on the regular season 17 touchdowns I formation is a set for the Raiders play fake Henry rolls right side fired through a high pass incomplete wore eagles all around that football Gus and Ridder tapped it away as we take a look at the starting lineup for the Raiders, Cornelius Garvey, Patterson, Bulls and Reid is the real leader of that offensive line for the Raiders in the backfield.
They'll sense Holloway as the fullback Hammond tree to wideout Collier.
The other two tight end is Benton Bell sense really is the heart of that Raider offense.
He and Chaz Henry second down ten Corey Spalding play fake ten You're looking up field fires good high pass batted around almost intercepted by Cooper Taylor Good defensive work again by Marist You get the sense that they are aware of the game film as we take a look at Marist up front defensively Philips Sutton Wood and Colt Colt again going both ways from plays play center on the offensive side linebacking corps Solano Garcia with better and Hester that's a good trio And then the secondary Romo Romo Payton Star Joe and Taylor for the war Eagles.
Can third down now for the Raiders short.
Drop.
Pass Hopkins last catch made by him and into Hammond from runs out of bounds near the 32 yard line Nicely done on the execution from Henry to Hammond for a crushed down for the.
Raiders.
Chaz Henry comes all the way to the sideline to get the play call from his head coach.
On the previous play, however, Henry did an excellent job looking to the sideline, getting the ball in space, and enough to pick up a first down with the run after the catch for about four yards.
Kaden Hammond, three on the grab for the Raiders came up a little bit gimpy here for the catch, but you could say that Cane was very able on their catch match.
Also, Charles only had a four man front.
And in the 12 receptions coming into this ballgame just picked up his first delay on the draw play SMITH With the football strung out toward the sideline good surge by the war eagle defense lost about two on the carry hit now dance leading that charge for the war Eagles.
Give credit also to number 58 Philip Wood for Marist getting penetration make contact really didn't ramp up on the tackle but he was responsible for slowing up the running back.
And that's exactly what that war eagle defense wants.
They want to keep the players going lateral toward the sideline as opposed to going straight ahead second down 13 for you Spalding from their own throw less direction as Smith again Smith followed up at the line of scrimmage they have gotten a half.
As Chaz Henry once again jogged to the sideline.
This is their first big call with a third and long coming up market about 12 yards for the first down on.
Third down under 5 minutes remains first quarter.
East Paulding, no surprise, their first playoff season ever finished three and seven last year and look, the job that Coach Reed did to turn that team around to get them here into the semifinals has just been phenomenal.
Shotgun, Henry.
Here comes the pressure.
Fischer toward the sideline pass goes incomplete, intended for Josh Collier, the senior wideout.
But Henry floated it out of bounds.
You could see Henry smack his hands after that last incompletion.
He had the receiver open breaking at about the 35 yard line, but his simple route to the sideline has a slingshot type of motion and the ball is just a bit wide and.
Outside Collier lunging for it so Henry will put it away averaging 47 yards per kick for the Raiders.
I'll be by Henry shortly on it as Lemaire stumbles lost a momentarily there the 26 Bulldogs.
On it for the war Eagles.
Henry with a good kick.
Amir had some problems handling it, but the War Eagles will go on offense as viewers like you that help make great local programs like these high school football games possible on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Show your support.
Simply visit our website at WW dot GPB dot org.
It's totally secure civilians and it takes just minutes after the break.
And thank you for supporting Georgia Public Broadcasting.
It's just an absolute outstanding day of semifinal football from the Georgia Dome all day long.
We're so glad that you're joining us for this nightcap.
And you can hear it rise out of the crowd as there was a dead ball penalty coming off that last punt.
It looks as if it will go against East Paulding.
With the assessment.
Warri will starting this drive from their own 42 Marshawn Wayne T set for the Warriors this trip on the ground Marshall will keep it right side sucker there's way past a 45 back near the 46 yard line.
Now, let's talk about the personality of this offense early on.
Charles Marrow seems to be very comfortable keeping the ball inside the tackles.
Really not anything fancy, but just trying to carve out space in the middle of the field.
Zach Gono is on the staff for East Paulding.
Coach Chatwood got to be pretty satisfied with where they are right now at this point in the ballgame.
They have certainly established that run, which is what they wanted to do coming in second, down six, they come right side.
This time they keep it in the belly of Preston.
Preston Heights this way near midfield, way about a yard or two shy of the first downs.
At this level of the playoffs, you'll notice the tackling is extremely crisp.
Number three is Cain Hammond Trae in on the last stop broke down wrapped up just like they're right up in the book.
Third down now.
There is islands have a triple.
Post said we just got to be a little bit like Norman here he's been to the playoffs so many times he just said Allen when he walks in the dome.
Third down to fake pitch Marshall short drop dumps it out in the flats Preston Lyons handles it works his way up near the 40 down near the 38 yard line Lyons showing some good handwork there to keep his eye and hands on that football.
If you have a £220 running back that can catch the ball out of the backfield, that's a dangerous weapon.
Working against the linebackers of the Paulding.
Able to keep the concentration Dobbs ahead and the warrior goes down at the 38 yard line of the Raiders or Eagle offense has been very fluid in this first quarter of action.
Also dominating the time of possession.
Under 3 minutes remains.
They give it to.
Lyons right side Ryan picks ahead maybe got a yard out of that but good stop up front by the raiders sean Bowles leading that surge for his paulding.
Lions needs another helmet, at least another helmet side for all the stickers that are gained up on the right side.
Those are emblematic generally of outstanding play during the season.
The Lions has a bunch.
And take a look at the battle scars that go along with those marks.
You got to get scratched up to get the marks to go second down yardage.
Thus far.
Mattison already over 100 but kick right side and they're got a block back hard near the 31 yard line but a.
Nice pick up right side by the Warrior Eagles kickoffs on the stop for the Raiders.
Landon Minear Also in on the stop you start to notice some names keep popping up over and over at the end of that play, like a little bit of a calf cramp on the sideline, doing what's been here.
Get to the point of attack on the sideline right there.
Right now at the sideline they're working on him surely seems to be that left calf muscle or if you've experienced one of those, you know exactly what he's going through.
Once more from ground level as he Spalding shows excellent pursuit getting two players in on the tackle.
You hate to see a player take that hit and that helmet bounce off the turf.
We're playing on Beal Turf here in the Georgia Dome.
It's a lot better than the carpet that was here a few years ago.
But still, an artificial surface is harder than playing on that natural grass.
Coach Chadwick very concerned about it.
And take a look at the surface in the Georgia Dome just talking about it.
You've been down there.
It's very fluffy.
It's got that granulated rubber, those recycled tires, which really helps absorb some of the shock and players don't have the challenges that they used to have in finding the right shooter, where you can almost where a normal football athlete on the surface.
As you walk down there, if you're just walking in your regular street shoes, when you come off of there, you.
Got all these little granules inside your shoes.
Third down, three for the warriors.
The wishbone said they're going to go.
To the right side.
Pitch behind the line of scrimmage and bang body with the Raiders with Hayden on the carry for the warrior those.
But good defensive search by London reinier for the East Paulding.
Raiders banner showing the ability to work sideline to sideline as he did on the previous carry, has enough of a burst and closing speed to make the hit in the open field.
John Reid carry two teams at Alcoa High School in Tennessee, two back to back championships.
This man's got two under his belt at Marist as well as a bunch of playoff experience for Marist.
And they're 22 years as they face a fourth.
Down and one Marshall survey under a minute remaining.
Try to see if they can get the Raiders a jump off delay offense five yard finish fourth down a bit out of field goal range.
As their place kicker Colin Gallagher.
His longest field goal so far has been 49 yards.
So just a hair out of his range.
So they felt that they could match that is try to see if they could draw East Paulding offsides.
Now we'll shift into punting formation.
So they will have to punt it all.
They're going to actually try.
The field goal is it'll be a 51 yard effort by Gallagher.
This would be his career best.
So Gallagher.
A senior, they're not afraid to go to him in this situation.
From 51 yards away.
Gallagher Got it.
Airborne.
Did he get enough of it?
Danny Finney Yes.
No, he missed it.
Right side.
He had the distance, but just left it outside.
What an effort by the senior.
Think he had the distance there just off the mark.
Wonderful angle on the last field goal as it just started to fade at the end about five yards to the right.
Boy, oh, boy.
But what a confidence factor.
If you're a head coach, you know you've got a field goal kicker that you can even consider kicking a 51 yarder and he's on record.
Coach Chadwick is saying that he is the best field goal kicker by far that they've ever had.
Now back the other way, the Raiders with the football Holloway handles it.
They got it up near the 22 yard line.
We talked about Jennings Hester in the open.
Number 44 is a linebacker for Mary's made contact on that last running play didn't wrap up but he was the first player at the point of attack.
Likely our last play of the first quarter and indeed it is as we finish one here this semifinal match up the war eagles leading at seven nothing over the Raiders of East Paulding quick time out and back but the start of the second Marist War Eagles leading at seven nothing over the Raiders of East Poly as we get set to start the second quarter at first quarter time of possession really telling the story.
Mary's just dominating almost 10 minutes of handling that football in that first quarter.
He's calling just over two raiders set to do something about that on offense, no left side scooting ahead bell sets.
And just sends his way up near the 30 yard line.
Even Shuttlesworth of Marist had excellent penetration about four yards deep in the backfield and width on the tackle.
Not happy with that last attempt and an excellent run which brings up a third and short call.
They all sense what is first carry of the football game for the Raiders.
His first year playing running back.
Holds to school records at East Baldwin second down and one after the carry about LS is short hits pass.
Out the sacks under throw and.
That's intended for Collier the wideout.
Give credit to number 38 Shawn Stargell of Marist who really was bearing down on the receiver.
Henry with that quick hitch pass out the flats close to a lateral there but ruled an incomplete pass now make it fourth down and Henry will have to flip hats and back to punt this time for the Raiders.
Derek Haden stands deep, the junior for Marist Fourth and last of the yard, Henry Waupun It turns this one over short kick Haden circles near the throw Got to wall left side if you can get behind it One man to beat at the corner now Henry the only hope for the Raiders.
Henry wraps up nicely at the 35 and a flag comes in afterwards and four eagles were setting the wall backside as the officiating crew.
That's almost all of them gathering at the far side of the field.
Referee Rusty Wynn will sort it out.
He'll tell us what's going on.
There were two fouls on the play.
Both were blocked.
In the back during the return.
Will penalize this 110 yard circle.
Well you take your pick two illegal blocks, the.
First one.
And the second one right there.
In front of the.
Take the flag that's father is back in that situation that'll put the football down at the 22 yard line.
Marshall sends a man in motion.
They'll pitch it that way.
Schuster, with the football, works his way up past to 25, near the 26 yard line.
Right now, the war Eagles displaying a lot of different weapons.
And using their lead backs to throw blocks in front of the play that time.
Number 28, Patrick Sullivan.
He's five three, I should say five five.
Got out in front of that play, got in traffic, got a block in the face of the East Paulding.
Schuster with this first carry from scrimmage for Marist second and five after his five yard pickup.
Wayne T said on the ground they gave it straight ahead.
Lions with the carry plunges up near the 31.
I had to do a double take on Patrick Sullivan listed at five, five and only £155.
Marist is not big, but they like to use their quickness and get angles on players downfield.
Approaching 10 minutes remaining in this first half.
For Eagles, with a.
Third down and two.
Marshall what a man in motion.
There's lions streaking right.
Out through the whole midfield.
One man to beat the grabbing near the 25 yard line.
And finally the last one down.
Near the 17.
They worked it to lions.
It's been working us all half long.
This time he gets a break.
We had that conversation over lunch about playing personality.
Number 50 is a center.
Kevin Cote Nothing fancy for Maris.
They're continuing to do what they want to do in the middle of the field.
That time they sprung the rest, the running back all the way deep down into East Paulding territory, all the way to about the 17 yard line.
Alex Gain is saving the touchdown for the Raiders, but a big run by Preston Lyons.
The speed is deceptive as well.
Wishbone set option whistles at the line of scrimmage.
Marshall was coming right side.
We used to have a joke about that deceptive speed comment.
We say a guy was slow with it.
He looked.
Third goal false start offense first down they had.
To push the war eagles back five lions an all state player last year and with the two school records at Marist this season quoted in the paper saying that he honestly wasn't even thinking about breaking any records at the school.
He just wanted to get better to help the team.
Well, the goriest one that stands out is the 56 career touchdowns.
How about that shot from a camera, guys?
And now we peer into that line of scrimmage.
Can't get you much closer than where we are.
Great work, guys on the ground.
Marshall going to keep it short side of the field fight his way near the 17 yard line and chasing down mark him out near the 60.
But once again give credit to Neil Schuster for carrying out the ball fake to the near sideline Marist as we are approaching almost in a big way mark in the second quarter playing off the ball handling ability of the quarterback really confusing he's playing so far.
Marshall with the carry second down and nine or Eagles threatening another score they lead at seven nothing down to the 16 on the Raiders right side they come Lyons angles his way back to the inside down near the 12.
Another feature of this game Charles as both teams come in 12 and one when you get to this level, all these teams have really dominated teams in their brackets.
But every now and then you'll see a team with a very strong playing personality able to dominate.
And so far, Mary's staying with their game.
That running game in between the tackles has been able to dominate East Paulding.
It's definitely about personality who can come in and an A in a setting like this and establish their personality first and kind of take the momentum, a win out of the other team.
Third down five for the Warriors.
They give it the Lions again.
I know it's Marshall keeping the football.
They actually lost it at the line of scrimmage as unpolished it was lions keeping the football the lead for the war eagles three and on the stop for the Raiders.
Now the challenge for East Paulding on the other hand Charles is with their team to see if they can get their sea legs and see if they can hang with Mary's until they get comfortable playing in the dome.
Read with assistant 69 tackles for the Raiders leads the team in that category but Gallagher now on to try a field goal for there will be a 28 yard effort for Gallagher and the Warriors step pace and hold Gallagher with a kick this time he's on target for the war Eagles they lead it now to nothing so one of one of field goal attempts in this first half for Colin Gallagher.
As you get a shot of head coach, talented week on the sidelines.
No stranger to the playoffs.
727 remaining first half war Eagles build on their lead Gallagher from 28 yards away and right now the Eagles leading it ten nothing.
No man on the.
Ten nothing lead for the war.
Eagles embarrassed over the Raiders of East Paulding.
28 yard field goal by that man number 17, Colin Gallagher capping a three minute 34 yard drive that took up 67 yards and seven plays for the war.
Eagles embarrassed Gallagher to kick it away, but they're going to try to push this one, steal it by one of the up men.
GARDNER Right here, working the left side.
Got it to the throw on his hands, pass the 35 up near the 37 yard line.
So the.
War Eagles electing to short kicked Allen as opposed to booming in the end zone and right now the raiders going to have good field position to start this drive.
And this is a point on the field Charles raiders would like nothing better to get chance Henry a few early completions see if they can pick up a few early first downs in this drive to get him in a rhythm.
So far, you're right has not been able to establish that rhythm.
First and ten for the Raiders on their own.
37 yard line fakes.
Two hits now across Iraq Pass goes incomplete, thrown behind Josh Khalil Collier circling near the 45.
And the ball simply slipped out of his hand.
You can see him smacking his hand as he turns to the sideline.
He's coming to the sideline now, looking at his fingers, knowing that he had a receiver open, that a long throw downfield just seemed to rush it a bit.
The ball spun out of his hands in an awkward position.
Second down coming for the Raiders, Henry went over 3000 yards in career, passing for.
His team, fighting for that towel.
But has it back at his hip.
Eye formation second down for the Raiders now draw play.
Left side Smith with the football after 35 now midfield finally chased out of bounds with the 45 and absolutely perfect play call all the pass formation on the previous set married to the linebackers playing a little bit off the line of.
Scrimmage, a four down set and East Paulding with an excellent call showing the pass and the draw play.
Romell on the stop for the War Eagles But Smith with some good roam to the outside and runs it for the first down.
And a nice job at the end that play by Smith number seven switching the ball to the outside hand just to protect it from any oncoming.
Tacklers.
6.9 yards per carry is the average for Chris Smith that brought on the play for the Raiders they need it that they're in war eagle territory there the 45 fake on the draw this time flushed right side as Henry dumps it out and threw it away out of bounds near the 30 yard line, a flag coming in the end of that play.
The closest player downfield for East Paulding was Chris Smith, the wide receiver, but he was about 15 yards away as you make it grounding called on East Paulding.
And that's the initial call.
It special.
Grounding Walton down second down.
We talked about this being the first playoff appearance for East Paulding.
It seems as if Henry just needs to take a deep breath and settle down.
He's getting some time to throw the throwing him on the run, getting him to some passing lanes to the sideline, but just not able to make the hook up early in this ballgame.
They flushed him right side that Tom was good play action by the Raiders but that surge by the Warriors forced them early second down and 24 as a result of the penalty.
Henry, what a reverse of the roll to his left still rolling raises fires at the corners Catch me by Hammond You know he didn't Adams squarely at the 50 yard line Hammond Street is not able to.
Hold on that's when you know your passing game is just not going right.
Heavitree was wide open at about the 45 yard line.
They had exactly what they wanted on the short roll to the sideline, to the same side of the field.
Receivers breaking open a perfect ball and it just drops.
It well, we're right on top of it with the camera.
But the work of Chaz Henry on the roll out there was just absolutely perfect, squaring his shoulders, choppy steps, raised and fired at the sideline, nothing more can do than what he did.
Under 7 minutes remains first half cane.
How much he had to go back in the huddle said, hit me again, I'll make it up to you.
Shotgun set third and long for the Raiders whistles line of scrimmage.
This time give credit though to the.
Front offense five yards.
Third down boy the wheels are coming off of this win for the Raiders after the good run by Chris Smith.
The East Paulding offensive line is keyed by Coach Reid's son Colton.
They're doing an excellent job of protecting the quarterback.
They just haven't gotten into the sets that they would like getting a receivers downfield to just catch the football.
After that delay.
Ah the intentional grounding things have done backwards for the Raiders, third down now and 29 from their own 37.
Here comes the pressure off the corner.
They unload trying to go up field.
This one broken up at the last minute Great read by Cooper Taylor.
They were trying to get it downfield to a streaking receiver in Josh Collier.
A dangerous throw into double coverage, as you mentioned.
Cooper Taylor, who's listed at six.
Three 175, made an excellent break on the ball at the last second, got a hand in.
And fortunate for Spalding.
That ball wasn't intercepted.
Another flag coming in at the back of that play as well.
Rory, the Raiders may be getting a break here.
Rushing the passer underneath their automatic first down.
Well, boy, that's got to hurt.
You talk about coaches aging, you know, in dog, which is seven years for a coach Alan Chadwick has been coaching 154 years.
Calls like that will make you eight fast.
That was clearly a roughing the Henry had unloaded.
It took a shot afterwards first and ten after the call.
Henry with the snap to try to catch cleanly.
Do so left side that's at the corner and at the 40 yard line.
HOLLOWAY With the reception for the Raiders close to the first down marker, nicely executed by the Raiders offensively.
Offensive linemen showing the patience, setting up downfield on the screen play.
And for one of the few times this evening he's balding shows the ability to pick up a nice chunk of yardage in the passing game.
Jacob Patterson, number 53, with a nice downfield block for the Raiders.
Holloway Eight receptions, two in 13 yards.
Good average per catch for the Raiders at 26, Smith Left side looks to have enough for the Raider first down Oh Jennings Hester linebacker for the war He is on the stop of Smith unlike.
Marist which loves nothing better than to set up their play in between the tackles he's holding loves to use the passing game to find space.
And so far this is their best drive of the evening.
After three seasons as a leading tackler for the war, Eagles already committed to the University of Alabama and actually playing with a broken hand that he injured in the second round game against a killer.
And that's a war eagle there.
3 to 12 tackles in the Redland playoff ballgame and had 11 against the killer or he broke the hand but still out there this evening for the warriors.
So take a look at the stretch.
I just don't know where our camera guys go.
It's like they're under the surface somewhere.
They just kind of pop up right where we need to be seeing, believing it's first out.
Get it done.
You don't put this one in and walk away.
So Henry and the Raiders, this is about where that drive stalled a while back before the personal foul against Henry they're back in more eagle territory short drop looks to the right fires up with last time is Collier on the catch pick up of about five perhaps six on the hitch pass to Collier out in the flats.
Josh Crowder lined up wide to the right side he's got about three yards deep in his pattern and faced his quarterback giving him an excellent target to hit turns upfield for an excellent gain on first down bring it for a second and short call but this is a place he's calling really has two plays to pick up the first down.
And indeed, you're right, you're starting to get the sense that that Raider offense is starting to settle now and getting into that pass run groove that we talked about in the pre game.
It's taken them a minute to get on track, but slowly but surely you can sense that their passing game is getting a little bit more in rhythm.
No question about it.
Football and football at this semifinal level is not for the faint of heart.
Things start out slow for you.
You've got to be continuous.
And to do those things that you believe.
Work for you.
Well, let's talk about it for a second, because one thing that we know that is unique about this football festival is that teams have to come out and warm up extremely fast.
You only have about a 30 minute break between games.
So any time that you have a passing game, it may just take a little bit more time to get in sync because you don't have that long extended warmup.
We had a chance to talk to Coach John Reid and get his thoughts about what he thinks is so special about this team.
I think what's very special about this year's team is it's a group that came together.
They've never been successful as far as a playoff team.
They've in the history of the school, they've never made the playoffs.
And and to get them to believe that, you know, that was our goal early on to try to make the playoffs, to get them to believe in that and just continue on through this journey and to get to the dome is been sensational for these kids.
And, you know, I appreciate their they've been very hard working group and they've been very well.
You got to know that was a tough challenge coming into a program that had that kind of record, which he did in his first year.
Instituting your own concepts and programs in the way you want to do things is quite a challenge.
It's really a good statement to what he's done here on the ground.
They go left side may have gotten the yard on the play not a whole lot more Holloway on the carry for the Raiders.
And picking up on that point, Charles, it was a great article in the AJC this week about how the metro Atlanta area, just the state of Georgia in general, has become a magnet for other high school coaches in Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina.
They've seen Georgia as one of the most attractive markets to move to.
And John B basically just took his whole family and moved to Georgia.
You can see the results Georgia finds.
State we're still in third down four for the raiders play fake both sides rolling left side.
The spin room going to the end zone got Collier behind the defense pass was incomplete It was.
Hammond Tre that was behind the defensive coverage.
Haden batted it down, but Hammond Tre still had a second look at it for a possible catch the pass thrown short Haden trying for the interception he missed and Hammond Tre with a chance to pull that football in You.
Can see the defender from Marist in perfect position turning towards the quarterback actually had a hand on that ball and you got the gasp out of the east Paulding supporters on the near as the receiver happens we actually had a second chance to make.
That catch.
But it's to your point now Marcus fourth down and four raiders going for it had two downs they tried to on the third to get it all on the touchdown.
Pass fourth and four now on the delay handoff, Smith.
Turned it over and near the 30 yard line short of the first down marker.
Brian Salvino at linebacker got in low for the war.
Eagles Salvino made a linebacker quality it got low and really submarine the running back before had a chance to really build up a head of steam an excellent tackle right there and they stopped he Spalding.
You see Smith get up and sit on his rear after the tackle looking around going Where am I?
Am I lost a sense of direction good hit by solano.
So the war eagle defense has held a defense has only given up 13 points in the playoffs.
They do a good job of holding the Raiders there under 5 minutes remaining first half.
Marshall run to center gives it in the line to Preston Preston.
Three of one defenders spends his way near the 45 yard line.
You got to wrap him up.
Eric Gaillard lowered on the stop for the Raiders, but that's after a lot of damage inflicted by lions.
Every now and then when a team doesn't pick up a pick fourth down play, you can see this almost a gasp wide release of energy to defense at times just playing on their heels.
And Mississippi comes out, picks up a huge chunk on that first play.
Lions with 132 yards on ten carries got a lot of that on that 53 yard run.
But turning in a fine performance thus far for the Warriors, they go left side with the football.
This time, Schuster carries it.
Schuster got it up.
Look, 45 near the 46.
Well, standing by, Phil Elam, Johnny.
Injury update 14.
Neil Schuster just got the handoff.
He and John Kelly are going to be seeing more action because Kevin Lanier, number 26, was diagnosed with a ten fib fracture.
He's done linear, also plays defense and returns punt.
So that damages Mary's stability on three phases of the football.
So not done for the evening now linear costly semifinals for the war eagles thus far second down seventh Marshall rolling right side now raises fires got a man behind the separation was threw it over the outside shoulder incomplete intended for Derrick Haden.
If your head coach Reed of East Paulding you'd like nothing better as we are under 4 minutes to go in the first half to hold Marist right here at ten, nothing.
Go into the locker room, see if you can regroup and get your offense on track.
This game is still a very close ballgame.
Probably thinking a little bit more than that, but 328 left, if they can hold them here on this third down, get that football back and see if you can't mount a drive before the half is over and get a score here.
That's their first time out.
They have two remaining.
Coach Jalen Chadwick in his 22nd year Marist.
We caught up with him and got his thoughts about his ball, his club and what he'd like special about this team.
With 3 minutes, 28 seconds remaining in the half.
We'll get that to you momentarily.
But Coach Chadwick and the War Eagles taking that time out, not exactly looking happy about the fact that they had the burn won there.
You talk about Coach Chadwick, one of the things that stands out about his record, 23 consecutive home playoff victories for Marist.
Or Eagles looking for their third state championship eight semifinal appearance and haven't had a lot of luck in their last seven appearances here.
They lost six out of those seven.
One thing when you go to the playoffs that many consecutive years, your fan base can get a little bit spoiled and have high expectations.
But you have to give this team credit for making the playoffs a regular stop on their schedule.
Indeed, you do a third down play now for the War Eagles shotgun set for Marshall Sharp drop throwing it over the line of scrimmage Catch made by lions Ryan Short of the 50 yard line and short of the first down marker.
For a big guy, lines really went up and got that last pass.
Brant Acrobatically showing the ability of a wide receiver comes up a little bit short.
So East Paulding, as you mentioned previously gets exactly what they wanted.
A stop on fourth down.
For Eagles to punt it.
This is our 10th anniversary of covering these GHC semifinals over the first weekend in 1997, semifinal games reached more than one and one half million viewers in the state of Georgia and some of the surrounding states that can pick it up.
Microsoft, Georgia, you can get it over in Florida as well.
But great showing in terms of the numbers back covering what the catch is.
Call you on the punt return sharks out of the field flag coming in as callers wrapped up near the 15 yard line.
Looks like there'd be a hole called on number 35.
London Raynor of East Paulding on the return.
So they're going to have to set up shop deep in their own red zone.
Where during the return block in.
The back of the receiving.
Team has to listen to the goal first down.
Coach really can't be happy about that.
They were going to get that football back with a decent opportunity to try to open it up and see if they couldn't get a score.
But now again, Pitt back inside the ten.
They forced them to rethink their options here.
And if you're a head coach, the last thing you tell your quarterback, don't turn it over first.
And ten for the Raiders from their own six yard line short hitch pass goes incomplete Jarrett Carr the intended receiver And he took a shot for good measure just for being out there.
Haden put the hit on him, pass under thrown by Henry.
The receivers for East Paulding just a bit tentative.
So it'll be second down now extended I behind Henry this trip sharp drop off the field going up top pass skills incomplete intended for Hammond Tre Hammond Tre covered by Sean Romo and the senior for Marist.
Chaz Henry trying to hook up on the deep ball to one of his favorite receivers, Hammond Tre That was actually one of the best thrown balls he's had all evening, just about ten yards ball him and Tre trying to work the near sideline.
You talk about the tables turning now on the Warriors.
They can press down the Raiders on this third down effort.
They'll force them to punt from the end zone and surely they'll have good field position over 2 minutes remaining.
And now a possibility for an error score.
The Raiders seem to have a big play.
Potential two wide receivers lined up to the.
Sideline and they keep it on the ground.
Holloway.
Holloway hit at the five yard line timeout taken timeout.
Man.
Marris knows exactly what's in front of them.
If you're a head coach, Alan Chadwick, you're trying to devise a formation.
By Allen Chadwick in this 22nd year, we've got we've caught up with him and got his thoughts about this team and how special they are.
I think probably our our confidence that we've gained over the course of the season.
We lost that second game to Tucker.
We had to had to learn how to reestablish ourselves and learn how to play within our systems.
We've we've improved a great deal on both sides of the ball.
Our kicking game has been very sound since that particular ball game.
And we've got to be focused and ready to play.
And that's that's the thing.
I'm pleased with right now is that these kids are are hanging on every word we tell them.
And there they responded to that and play with a lot of heart and a lot of pride right now.
And if we continue to do that and I think we've got a shot to do some good things, but competition's extremely tough.
And and you have to play well at this stage of the game.
And that's the thing that matters the most is just playing well.
It's always that one game, Mark, that a coach can point to and say, well, this was the thing that turned us around and Marist and Coach Chadwick talking about that lost to Tucker.
And after that, they ran the tables.
So the Raiders to put it.
Away now Henry with a high kick if stands near the 42 squeezes it they're called fair catch and a free kick kick by Chazz Henry to at least bail them out and give them the defense something to work.
With.
Tremendous kick from three yards deep in his own endzone.
This game can also be viewed live on the web internet site around the world at WW dot GPB dot org.
Just follow the links to connect to the game and every game will be archived and available later on the Gp-B website as well.
That's WW DOT GPB Dawg.
They give a gold star to the Bears defense, pinning East Paulding Deep, not allowing a first down and taking over on Downs.
Shotgun for Marshall he'll keep it himself up the gut he goes near midfield runs for about seven on the carry for the war.
Eagles may even have eight on it.
Hitchcock's on the stop for the Raiders.
Preston Lyons is such a dangerous running back that yes, he got tackled in the backfield off of last ball fake.
Second down and short no huddle for the war Eagles trying to take full advantage under 2 minutes slots either side snap Marshall short drop looking right comes once now fires it off the flat catch made at the corner grab by Greenwood Greenwood gets out of bounds here the 45.
Greenwood turned inside even though the clock will stop temporarily.
As he moved the chains, he was so close to the sideline, coaches might remind him next time, if you're that close to the side, I turn to the outside, get out of bounds and stop the top.
Line of scrimmage to 45, first and ten after the catch by Greenwood Now they gear up the clock Lyons Lone set back home Marshall will give it to Lyons looking for room right side work up front by the Raider He thinks just popping them and popping them on.
And if he hits up front.
Give credit to Ethan Waits big number 89 for East Paulding getting low He's lined up at nose tackle got in on that third by east Paulding.
Approaching a minute remaining first half no huddle again once again for Marshall rolling and left side now stops reverses raises fires Got a man there at the 26 yard line Good grab on the catch by Derek Haydon Nice piece of work by Gary Marshall.
Give credit to Alex Hardwick, the head coach of Marist, but working the sidelines, rolling his quarterback, this time to the left, getting the receiver to the sideline and close to a point where he can go out of bounds.
Now we're under a minute to go.
First down at the 28 yard line on the ground.
He'll keep it.
Marshall, watch this way there.
The 20 down to the 19 yard line.
Another nice ball fake the lions press my on the stop for the Raiders but Marshall was a good run to get it inside the red zone 35 seconds for timeout going to be taken before they get the play off Raiders took the time out and Gallagher standing in the wings with 36 seconds left, maybe called upon to boot one through.
Also, Charles, you won't find a better receiver quarterback, I should say, at reading the defense and being decisive in the offensive flow.
Gary Marshall do an excellent job of guiding the offense so far.
Boy, we've gone so far without the defeat, but this is what happened earlier today in the three eight 9:00 matchup.
It was the Raiders of Shaw advancing to the finals with a win over Carver 1614 in that three eight matchup, 15 carries 74 yards by Scott for the Raiders a great ball game to start a five day set here from the Georgia Dome three eight ball game 4329 Trojans A Peach County to beat Washington County, the Golden Hawks.
By that score in the double action, it was the one sided all the way from start to finish.
The Fighting Irish of Dublin 65 showed no love for the lions of Lovett North Side 2217, overseeing Pius and the 6:00 for a ballgame.
Now back on the ground Marshall Schwartz out of the field washed out of bounds near the 16 yard line.
Good defensive work by Craig Ryan, the junior linebacker for the Raiders.
The 31 seconds remaining first half.
Did exactly what they wanted.
Charles picking up the first down.
Now they're going to go into their play calling directory and see if they can come up with a sequence, run two or three.
Plays that they used to get into the end zone.
For Eagles and Marist ten nothing lead over the Raiders they want a little more before the break splits either side rolling right side as Marshall still roll He's got to loom in front of it He'll tuck it down inside the ten bang down and out of bounds near the five yard line.
Gaylord chased him out and Marshall with another fine decision.
They roll him out.
He's got the option of passing it upfield or running excellent.
Block thrown downfield by number 19.
Stephen Greenwood As Marshall was making the ball fake free with the wide receiver just turn got a helmet on a defender and allowed Marshall the extra five yards to the near sideline.
First down run by Marshall it's.
First and goal to go now for Marist this is going to come in and time out it's going to be taken the Raiders take another timeout no question about it.
They are back on their heels.
That's a regroup timeout under 25 seconds to go in the first half, the Raiders really ahead of themselves to blame for not picking up that first down deep in their own territory.
And Marist once again knocking on the door of the end zone.
Final game tonight.
We've got a full slate for you tomorrow starting at 9:00, it'll be Athens Academy versus Clinch County in the single-A division.
Coming up at noon, another single-A match up, Larry Campbell and Lincoln County playing commerce coach Campbell, the winningest coach in the state at 3:00 tomorrow, it's Charlton County coach Mark Warner and Early County.
They'll meet at three here at the Dome with the Double-A action and then at 6 p.m. it's Tip County and Roswell paddling and the five a division and it will conclude our ten game set from the Georgia Dome with Warner Robins and Peachtree Ridge at 9:00 tomorrow.
The six and 9:00 games will determine who will advance to the five eight championships next weekend.
So two full days of semifinal action and it's been doing it for the last ten years from the Georgia Dome.
Marshall under center.
Fakes to pass.
Now he'll drop.
There comes the backside pressure they get the sack on him.
Bono's got in and got the sack on Marshall.
Marshall trying to get a timeout from the officials but good surge by Zach Bonos the sophomore for the Raiders out on the going 64 tackles probably none bigger than that one.
Barnes had a little bit of a quick SNAP strategy running in from the sideline directly to the line of scrimmage, as you can see.
Got get into the backfield wrap up and throw the quarterback Marshall for the loss.
14 seconds remains second down it's goal to go for the war Eagles the Raiders you've got to get the sense that if they're able to hold them up and keep them from getting a touchdown, not be fully satisfied, but they'll certainly just take the three as opposed to give up six more.
Excellent point.
That 13 zip looks a lot more friendly then having more points.
So being down more than two scores, going to the half.
The raiders we talked about it in the pre show this is their first postseason playoff activity in the school's history schools started playing football back in 1991 and John alluded to it earlier in his pregame comments that during that time prior to this season, they only had 37 wins.
From 1991 to the present.
Second goal, the goal.
Marshall Well, roll it.
Left side raises fires through it underneath pass drop and intended for Neil Schuster Schuster had it near the seven, took his eyes off it and left it on the surface.
The closest player for East Paulding was the linebacker Carlton Reid.
He was about five yards away once again, we see a receiver turn the ball, throw in all the money and just a simple drop.
So now Gallagher will come on to try the field goal for the War Eagles It'll be a 32 yard effort for Gallagher.
He has been busy this first half, one of two thus far connected from 28 yards away, high snap.
But they get it down.
Gallagher with plenty of leg on it.
Did he drive it through?
Yes, he does.
So Gallagher now two of three in this first half and extends that war evenly 13 to nothing over the Raiders.
You take what's given to you, Coach Chadwick.
Not happy they didn't get in the end zone three always helps the Raiders trying to get high almost got a hand on it but Gallagher with nice lift on the kick drove it through and the 32 yard effort.
The bad news for East Paulding up another score going into the half.
The good news, it's only a three.
Instead of the six or seven, they can be feeling a little bit better about themselves knowing that were only two scores down.
They've got to work on getting their passing game on track, though.
Collier will stand deep and so will Chris Smith to receive the kick by Gallagher scoring drive for the Eagles.
2 minutes, 6 seconds, ten plays, three yards and Gallagher capping it off with a 32 yard field goal.
His second in this first half, Coach Chadwick talked about him saying he's the best kicker they've had in the program since he's been there and they relied on him in this first half, actually had him out from one yards away, hadn't enough distance on it, just missed it in terms of accuracy.
Well, Gallagher is nine of 13 this year on field goal attempts.
That's an incredible percentage, especially for somebody he attempts long range field goals.
GALLAGHER This time going to kick it deep and call your back pedals another touchback 4 seconds remaining raiders will have it from their own 20 yard line to start this drive likely see them just sit on it to get out of this first half, regroup, see what they can do in the second.
You think about it though, the Raiders, although early on the time of possession, heavily favored the warrior Eagles.
Numerous raiders started to settle in.
The offense just didn't get any point production.
And speaking of time, a very crisp first half played in little over an hour.
So Henry to the line of scrimmage and Henry going to take the knee for the Raiders and that'll be it for this first half they lead it or the trailer 13 to nothing to the war Eagles Marist and with a couple of breaks you've talked about that possibility of not converting that first down would have helped the Raiders effort.
They didn't get it.
But we'll see what changes they make at the break to try to address that point.
Deficit where they're not they haven't actually started executing, where they're scoring the points, but they're looking good at midfield range.
In terms of the offense.
Well, even though Chaz Henry came in as the classic drop back passer, it's actually been Gary Marshall with Houdini like ball handling and completing the big passes when he had to.
That's really had the advantage so far in this ballgame.
So the Raiders trailing it Raiders in their first semifinal appearance.
John Nelson standing right field level Nellie.
Hey, coach, let's talk about opportunities.
In the first half, you had some, but you missed some others.
Well, we did.
And we got to finish things off.
We had the penalty right there the hardest in the sack.
One time, the penalty, a first field goal that we had to settle for that set us back.
And then, of course, the sack on that last drive.
And then, you know, we got to catch that pass.
We've got to make a play if we're going to win this game and we're playing well, we've got good movement on the ball and defense is playing well, coming up with some good stops.
We let them off the hook with that rushing the passer penalty.
And I was fortunate to get out of that situation right there.
But playing well, we got to just finish things off.
And also the injury to Lanier real quick, big to you on three phases of the game.
No question.
No question.
We're scrambling right now personnel wise, and we're going to have to go in and try to regroup a little bit.
Thanks, coach.
We'll send it back upstairs.
Merits that 13.
Nothing at the break.
Thank you, John.
We getting set for some halftime activity or eagle marching band and the Raider Brigade Band will be performing here at the Georgia Dome 13 nothing war Eagles leading it at the intermission.
We are back live from the Georgia Dome at the intermission 13 nothing lead the war eagles embarrassed leading the Raiders of East Paulding in this first half of football semifinal action and the fans here at the Georgia Dome now entertained by the 48 member, Mary's High marching band director Mark Craddock from Major is Patty Vaughn.
They are performing the music of Styx will go down a field level and take a listen ourselves.
Right now, they're playing right.
Oriole Band just concluding a performance.
John Nelson standing by, Nellie.
And you know, Charles, I was just sitting here and we're trying to interpret lyrics to things let's talk about Styx and the choice of having a retro band for your band.
Well, we always try to choose a band that the kids will know and the parents will know as well, so that when we're entertaining our audience, the parents will be able to get into it, and that the kids in the stands, as well as the kids on the field will enjoy what they're doing.
We picked Styx because obviously they've got a lot of tunes that everybody knows and could get into.
The crowd can sing along, the kids can enjoy playing it.
We are also always looking at something.
That we can bring a new approach to, so we like.
To be.
Able to play the songs in such a way that everybody will understand it and know what it is, but that we can put a new spin on it.
So we did like, for example, the Come Sail Away in a Sky version.
So let's talk about what it's like for your band to be here at the Dome and play under the big top.
What's that like?
Well, of course, they're all excited.
They been looking forward to this for weeks and planning ahead and wondering what they're going to do and how they're going to do it.
So once we wrapped up our competitive season, this is pretty much all they thought about for three or four weeks.
Are we going to the dome?
Mark Craddick, thanks for your time.
Thank you very much.
Welcome to the big top.
Let's send it back upstairs to Charles with more.
Thank you, Johnny.
And this Democratic is dead on it.
I recognize a lot of those songs, Mr. Roboto in particular.
We'll step aside for time out 13 Nothing at the Break Marathon Leading Up Over East Baltimore 13 Nothing Matters leading East Paulding in the class for a finals from the Georgia Dome.
We're alive at halftime and the intermission right now we've got the East Paulding High Band performing, the Raider Brigade, 150 members directed by Brian Beckman and Debbie DAVIES.
Drum majors Emily Jarrett and Nick Blackstock marked a good way to take a walk down in your neck of the woods.
A walk down Broadway with selections from The Heat is on for Miss Saigon, old Gumby cat from Cats.
I dreamed a dream from Lay Miserable And Don't Rain On My Parade From Funny Girl.
We'll go down We'll take a lesson winners is the grand championships the last two years the rate upper grade fine performance John Nelson standing by with run back to John.
Hair with the head of the rate brigade and their last number.
What's it like for you guys to be under the big top?
What has been a lot of fun.
Kids have just loved it here.
The big crowd, big lots.
The whole space has been very exciting.
Not a lot of spirit tonight and everything we're doing.
So let's talk about this routine.
You said there was a little bit of motivation that you kind of told me about as a little secret.
Well, we saw some on your network a couple of years ago, The Treasures of Broadway.
So we decided to do a show entitled A Walk Down Broadway, but a bunch of bob Broadway tunes in right now, a couple CDs and DVDs and a lot of music as we put together for our show.
So what are you most proud of about this particular Raider brigade behind us here?
Well, been a lot of adversity this year, a lot of things to overcome.
And I've worked really hard, did really well.
A contest, went to one, won grand championship and just keep going all the time.
They impressed me every week what they could do and the spirit they have and what they do.
All the time.
And when it comes to Broadway, sometimes, you know, kids may not necessarily know about Broadway or be a very in-depth knowledge of Broadway.
What was it like to say, okay, let's this routine?
Well, I showed them some videos of things.
We talked a lot.
We went to a Broadway musical once in New York.
So the kids like Broadway stars.
So they got into this really good and they heard the music and everything.
Well, I'm packed and ready to brigade.
Thanks for your time.
You walk into the Georgia Dome with two vans down a second half to come here at the Georgia Dome, 13 to nothing merest.
Leads at the half center back upstairs.
Thank you, John.
First half highlights from the semifinal match up Raider the one Eagles on an excellent play fake by quarterback Gary Marshall first score of the drive the ball game that came on the first possession of the contest where Eagles started early.
Then Colin Gallagher got into the scoring and didn't quit.
First field goal from 28 yards away made it a ten nothing lead and then Gallagher once again, this time from 32 yards out.
And that's the scoring we have in this first half of action from the Georgia Dome one touchdown run by Marshall and two field goals by Colin Gallagher.
First half stats.
Marty, go down to the bottom of the screen in the lower left hand corner.
Time of possession under Mary's War Eagle category.
You can see the advantage they came out with at the beginning of this ball game.
Charles really dominated the other number that jumps out at you look at rushing yardage from Mary's towards it.
Four to only 331 for eight paulding.
Total yards in that first half Marist of 241 yards raiders struggling a 57 penalties almost even but their possession really kind of tells the story 13 nothing lead for the eagles of embarrassed over the raiders and we'll step aside for our time out.
When we come back, we'll get set to start the third of this semifinal matchup.
Mary's leading at 13.
Nothing.
Holiday scenes from around the city of Atlanta.

Chief photographer Gary Peacock had a group of those kids are trying to learn about the broadcast industry and learning about photography and camerawork.
Some great shots from the city of Atlanta.
I just want to know what Santa is doing on that chopper.
I guess he only uses the sled on Christmas Eve.
Goes to the chopper in the metro areas, normally at satellite jive.
Thank you, Charles.
Here with Coach Reid first half seemed offensively for you to start starts and stops basically yeah I mean we didn't keep anything together.
We didn't play very consistent and they were playing good defense against us.
Our kids were, I think, a little jittery.
And we'll try to come out here in the second half and put a drive together and see if we can get on the scoreboard, get these kids back in this game.
And then defensively, really quickly, you were able to hold them to field goals when they were driving.
So at least there's some positive to take to the half.
Yeah, I think our kids toughened up on a couple of drives and they're trying to get it, keep us in this game and if we can get a drive together, I think that we can maybe hold our own and then get a win here.
Thanks for your time, Rodrigo.
The second half was sent back upstairs to Charles and Mark.
Thanking L.A. Coach Reid, still confident about where they are in this football game.
And, you know, there's something interesting watching Chaz Henry warm up on the sideline before we start the second half.
He's really working on that deep ball, throwing the pass about 30 yards.
So you can tell it.
East Paulding is showing that personality just like the Counterpart Raiders.
They like to see if they can get that deep offense going in the third quarter.
As Henry got a set for the second half, Raiders will have the football first to start the second half of football.
We talk about it all the time.
That drive coming out of the intermission is most important, particularly when you're trailing ten.
We had a slow start in this ballgame, most notably the pass, and he tried to complete.
The first quarter where the ball simply stepped out of his.
Hand.
May have been a case of just the moist hands, but a little bit of jitters.
So hopefully he'll be settled down enough to see if they can get this East Paulding offense untracked in the third quarter.

And you, we have it easy this evening.
We've only been working since 9:00.
There are crew members here that have been here since 830 this morning.
So my hat is off to all of the crew from GPB.
That's Been here all day long.
They'll probably get some cots downstairs in the dome, wake up tomorrow morning and get back out at about seven in the morning.
And Director Doug first is in my ear saying, you're wrong.
Was 645 long day great crew though 13 nothing nearest leading the Raiders of East Paulding game five of our ten game set from the Georgia Dome Colin Gallagher with a busy first half for the Eagles of Mary's getting set to kick it away Josh Collier and Chris Smith will stand deep for the Raiders.
East Paulding has got to get excellent blocking blocking out of its tough man.
They have four players in a box starting in about their own 35 yard line.
They would like nothing better than see if they can get a decent return on this opening kickoff.
Where Eagles leading at 13 to nothing they're playing tonight for the right to meet the Eagles of Northside next Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the A championship.
The Eagles and Northside winners, the 6:00 ballgame.
They advance to the championship and one of these two teams will meet a deep kick by Gallagher touchback raiders starting from the 20 so Chaz Henry and the radar offense back to duty in the third quarter three of 13 in that first half 26 yards total in terms of passing for Hendrick and.
That's not a typo it's that Charles Henry is test.
Yes third quarter we go Charles Ward Mark last John Nelson.
Glad you could join us on GPB.
They start in an eye formation on the draw place Smith afternoon right side and Smith stumbles near the 30 yard line close to the first down marker.
That's a play.
That he's Paulding had some success with in.
The first half.
Simple draw play.
Once again, Chaz Henry comes to the sideline for the play call from his head coach.
Just a second and short.
How to look at him read Smith going back to the huddle after the run thing he's most disappointed about is right at the end of run.
He simply stumbles under his own power, and though he knows it could have gotten a lot more out of that play had he kept his feet a second down and one no.
Nine yards picked up by Smith Hill.
A change in the play at the line they're going around Smith man at the.
Line of scrimmage turned in over in by Jordan Phillips good defensive surge by the war Eagles.
Before that last snap Charles Henry turned Kane happened to he was lined up wide to the right at about 930 having looked back into his quarterback with his arms outstretched has to say, I'm not really certain of that call.
And as a result, he's balding, went conservative and stayed with the run.
PHILLIPS On the start, the junior making it third down and less of a yard for the Raider first first possession of this third quarter.
Movement at the line of scrimmage.
No flag zone high.
Near the 35 yard line intended for a Hammond tree and he's he's.
Ball he had the perfect mismatch as number 40 son Vermeil of Marist was very late getting into defensive position and for about a three count Heavitree was wide open before the defense adjusted, but unfortunately a pass was just thrown too high.
And a lot of movement at the line of scrimmage.
Before that ball was snapped, I thought we may have seen an illegal procedure, but no call that'll make it fourth down now and the Raiders will have to.
Punt a huge pick up on the draw play and then two consecutive stop.
Pipo will stand deep.
Fourth, the War Eagles and Henry turns over the punt effort near the 28 yard line, walks up to the 30 now a pass the 35 to the 36.
John Reid of he's calling calling his quarterback over.
You know they have to be discussing that last series of downs, especially the last two.
Play close.
You have a second in and just not able to pick up that extra yard.
So the Raiders give it over back to the Warrior Eagles and Gary Marshall and Mary's to the line of scrimmage.
Marshall with a fine job of leading the Eagles in that first half line of scrimmage, their own 36 on the ground.
Marshall will keep it Marshall got it up near the 39.
Marshall does such a great job of handling that football and the traffic taking it to the running back and.
It only five nine Charles when he gets low in that position, it's very difficult for the defensive linemen to read where that ball is going.
So he uses that size to his advantage.
We saw that in that first half on the first score of the ballgame, a great fake Marshall right side able to keep it untouched and run it in for the touchdown to the left.
But as you could look at that close angle shot, he's got some deep biceps on him.
Second year.
Seven on the ground there come Marshall.
A keep it right side with the option turns it to the inside up near the 45 yard line and pull down from behind Austin walk Kyra for the Raiders.
You know, your quarterback is a tough guy when you have that part, your facemask, that loop over the guard right at the center of the mask, that time made the ball fake, turned upfield, got his head down and low, picks up a decent gain, bringing up a third and less than a yard.
That helmet kind of lets you know he's not afraid to tuck it up in there.
That's a tough guy.
Facemask third down less than one for the warrior.
Those now trips to the top of.
Your screen.
Down and in motion that give it to lions lions sprinting back left shot inside the 45.
Down near the 42 yard line quick hitting play going right side, but Preston Lions turning it back to the inside.
And speaking of tough guys, Ryan Barnes through his counterpart number number 44, Craig Ryan, the tackle attempted tackle, I should say, right, about the 47 yard line picked up about three yards.
But as it stands embarrassed with another big first down into he's paulding territory.
Lions lost a shoe at the end of that run it didn't affect him 13 carries 135 yards thus far in this semifinal, football game eight throw remains third quarter first and ten warriors on the ground.
Marshall got a block fights his way up to the 40 down to the 39 yard line.
Before the last snap, Neil Schuster in the wishbone formation extended his hands as if he was going to take a direct step.
That is something just to put a little bug in the minds of East Paulding.
We've got another look for you to be concerned with off the tremendous ball fakes of the quarterback.
Marshall second down and seven after the carry by Marshall line of scrimmage.
Now the 39 of the raiders starting this football for Eagles win on a sustained drive he scored a touchdown lost their first possession of the second half lions Brexit into the secondary extends his way to the 25 yard line he was threatening again Darius Anderson on the stop for the Raiders.
It doesn't take Preston Lions very long to get up a full head of steam after about the second step he gets into the second level and all the way down to the 25 yard line showing an excellent first off the handle.
For Ashton Lions at six 1 to 18.
This is going to be a rough comparison now.
So you got to stay with me on this.
I'm thinking Larry Zanka.
Let's not get crazy.
Okay.
But he's showing the ability and the toughness inside the tackle for his satellite.
Cameras to 43 total rushing yards.
He's called a under 50 yards.
Just dominated on the ground.
Quick pitch at left side Good work by Marshall with the pitch foul racking the hit.
On Schuster on the outside by that raider defense.
But I will give you one point on the comparison because at six two and 225, Lions, a alone.
Marshall took a hit but got it over to Schuster.
Schuster was bought by Idris Anderson.
Gaillard, take a listen to this shot.
Oh, boy.
That's getting knocked around at an auto accident here.
Gaylord, on a rep, we take a look at what's been the difference in this ballgame.
MARIST Almost 18 minutes of possession of the football Marshall hits the more spinning it near the 17 yard line when you can control that clock like that mark no question about it.
You're doing what you want to do on the ground.
And once again, the ball fakes is so effective that Preston Lyons is causing himself to be tackled without the ball at the middle of the field.
It's quarterback taking advantage Marshall picking his way along the line of scrimmage and picking up positive yards.
Hitchcock's on that stop for the Raiders coach Chadwick Now you've got Clark now basically a third down and two down at the 17 and the Raiders right side they go lions with a group hanging on him Got it inside the 15 down near the 13 yard line.
Thank you for the last snap.
The entire East Paulding coaching staff was trying to get Zach and Nas to get closer to the line of scrimmage.
He was playing about ten yards off the ball, so they really wanted to try to force the linebackers closer to the line of scrimmage against this tough running game, which is really showing no signs of trying to get to the outside.
He just lining up and saying, we're coming right at you, right up the middle.
Approaching 5 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in this third quarter.
This is the first possession of the second half for the Warriors, first and ten down at the 13 on.
The ground they go lions definitely.
Well the defender spins over another.
One touchdown more Eagles.
Preston Lions with the touchdown run for the war Eagles embarrassed They extend their lead.
The last player they got Chuck right about the three yard line was number three Egis Anderson watch the contact of the big running back the spin and the six.
So Lions with the touchdown Gallagher on now to try the point after we talked about the importance of that drive coming out of the intermission war Eagles knew they convert on a touchdown.
Snap place and kick.
The Gallagher just about driving that one into your living room Marist extends their lead over the Raiders of East Paulding 20 to nothing after the touchdown run by the tough Preston Lions 20 to nothing.
Mary's leading East Paulding after touchdown run by Preston Lions.
You made the comparison to Larry Zucker, but I'd prefer to make the comparison to a player we saw a couple of years ago.
Brandon Sumlin, who is now a starting fullback, but he was Georgia who starred with great Atlanta Christian, who we had these very same playoffs.
Five or six is the amount of time that drive took off the clock and the warriors continuing to mouth time of possession in their favor.
Mary's with 305 total yards now compared to 66 for his father Gallagher will kick it Raiders have got to get something going Collier Smith's standing near the three deep kick by Gallagher Gallagher and Collier will fill in in the end zone.
Raiders will start this possession from their own 20 yard line.
When you have a weapon like Gallagher, it really just totally negates any type of return game for East Paulding.
They've poor field position all evening long.
And Coach Chadwick knows that.
That's why he lost those praises on to Gallagher, because he's such a help for that team, not only in terms of scoring points, but the defensive measure of him being able to keep dig deep kicks and preventing the opposing team from getting good field position to start a drive from the ten.
Smith looking for some room angles back to the inside for the 30 yard line to the 31 the quick hitting play that Chris Smith has been effective all long for the Raiders.
They just haven't been able to follow it up.
He shows a great ability, Charles, to pick his way along the line of scrimmage, play off his outside tackle and get into space as deep speed, huge pick up on first down.
Jennings Hester on the stop for the War Eagles Marist He whistles at the line of scrimmage and you take a look down That's Allen Chadwick's daughter.
I think he's lobbying for Christmas presents.
Ashley You know, a few years ago, I work for this show called Prep Sports, plus one of the real icon shows at Georgia Public Broadcasting and had a chance to go over to Marist and do a story on one of the players a few years back.
I remember when Coach Chadwick's daughter was probably no more than three or four years old.
I moved on.
Got to be very proud of this past program, though, for a team that's been this strong in the playoffs.
So there's got to be some type of state record for the country, let alone the state of Georgia.
Just to follow up on that story, I remember the day I was there, she was out at practice and she'd bitten by some BS.
Coach Chadwick stopped her practice, had attend to the daughter first and ten now raiders got to pitch it left side Smith looking for room racked up near the 32 yard line surge up front by Chris gut Gusman better for the war Eagles defensively than Sutton and on that stop as well for Marist.
Sutton's only listed at 61205 as we talked about all evening long bears not very big, but their linemen especially get very low at the line of scrimmage and allow their linebackers to come to the line of scrimmage and clean up.
Second down and nine.
Now for the Raiders, 425 and the clock moving here, whistles and flags coming in at the line of scrimmage.
Number 58 in the middle of the field at nose tackle for marisco.
Snap infraction on the offense yards in the.
Second half.
Hey lineup fill would only listed at 510 185 but gets incredibly low in that crab position right over center and is able to work his way along the line of scrimmage and cause havoc.
Colton Reed, the Center for the Raiders guilty of moving a football before they snapped it at make it second down to 14 now for the Raiders fake on a short hits pass they give it on the draw play to Smith Smith hit hard near the 33 yard line and finished up at that same spot they were pushing toward the sideline.
Took a hard initial hit.
And one more for good measure.
Jennings Hester came into this ballgame with 111 tackles.
Got it on the last stop.
Marist does an excellent job not just getting one head, but two or three to the ball.
We talked about the fact that that Mary's defense has only given up 13 points in the playoffs, first round a shut out, then they gave up seven in the second round and six last week.
And right now, raiders with a goose egg on the scoreboard dominating performance by the Warriors as both sides of the football Henry takes to drop those got them in on the separation over shoots him near the 40 yard line was intended for Allen Gardner Gardner had plenty of separation on the defender but Henry way too on the pass.
Give credit though to number 35 Dan set for Marist but the pressure on the quarterback play not allowing him to set up a throw that ball with as much time as he would have liked that ball was thrown over the receiver by about seven yards.
That'll bring up fourth down for the Raiders, 328 remaining thus far stands near the 39.
The resounding thud on the kick by Henry bounces at the throw.
It takes a raider all inside of the 25 yard line down near the 22.
He hit that one hard 3 minutes 14 seconds remaining third quarter Gary Marshall and that war eagle offense back the field.
As they have dominated Charles and time of possession.
No surprise on what their strategy is going to be going into the closing minutes of the third quarter and into the early part of the fourth.
Mary's lost four of their last five semifinal appearances in the Georgia Dome right now with a comfortable 22 nothing lead over the Eagles or the Raiders as they keep it on the ground.
Straight ahead, lions with the carry Preston Lyons been a real workhorse for that horrible offense tonight.
Mary's School located here in metro Atlanta.
That school opened its doors in 1901, initially opened as a military school for boys.
Second down play now bears lions in the secondary.
One man to beat walks to that midfield now.
Now to the 40 chased out of bounds near the 34 line.
Idris Anderson just trying to hold on to him.
But that play is created by the work of the men in the trenches.
They've got everybody in black seal down to the ground right there at the point of SNAP and the rest of its lions are outside.
He's all he was trying to get.
Number 98, Wesley Sweet Apple who makes the all the team every day of the week into the backfield but sweet apple crabbing towards the line of scrimmage got double teamed and as a result the big running play but takes it back.
Preston Lions on another big play from scrimmage Look at his performance on the night 18 carries 211 yards for the war Eagles embarrassed so lions turning in a stunning performance spins right side now back to the left look at him work on one hand got it inside the throw down to the 29.
This is the point in the game do you have that big £220 running back coming at you in the third quarter and you've been on the field for over 10 minutes?
Football is not as much fun if you're a defender.
Sure, we're at the two minute mark in second down and five for the Warriors.
Raiders now got to be in their mind starting to think, what can we do to Marshall to play fake the Lions.
He'll keep it he's at the 20.
Now at the ten touchdown warriors they.
Weren't Lions long enough and Marshall able to play fake off of that lying lions left side look at the group that he draws on the fake.
Once again you can see the down lineman for East poorly just simply being taken out of the play pancaked in some cases allowing the quarterback to pick along the line of scrimmage.
Once he got clear sailing about the ten yard line, his speed did the rest of the work a minute.
37 left in the third exclamation point being put on this now by the Eagles of Marist Gallagher on now to try to pull in after the Gallagher drives it through and Morris extends its lead 27 to nothing.
The Raiders of East Paulding Mary's right now with 347 yards of rushing that's just running the football for play drives 79 yards a minute 37 seconds Marshall and his second TD run on the night.
Boy, the blocking downfield is just absolutely astounding by that.
MARSH The Warriors offensive.
Marist wearing the Navy blue uniform is very appropriate because this is a blue collar offense that they've shown all evening the ability to just simply run the ball, dare you to stop there.
We're going to line up and come right at you.
Here it is.
Come get it.
They've done it from start to right where we are now.
And at 37 left in this third quarter, Coach Chadwick having some words with Marshall after the touchdown run.
Harris leading a 27 to nothing.
It's been a real quiet evening for the receiving corps for the War Eagles.
We highlighted that at the beginning of the show.
Stephen Greenwood The wideout doesn't get much for catches on the course of the season coming in.
We just got to be happy to be part of this show as that Oriole mascot got to be happy about the results thus far.
Charles If you're East Paulding, you're almost to the point where you started to play for respect at this point, not thinking about points.
Let's see if we can pick up a series of first downs and see if we can get some points on the board so we don't go home with that big ol.
Major right check by Gallagher another deep with Collier back settles in the end zone they'll start this drive from the 20 as well.
They were billing it as the miracle at East Paulding with their first ever playoff season this year.
Coming off a three and seven year last year.
What we've got going from results that north side over St Pius 2217 and right now Marist leading East Paulding 27 to nothing getting set up for perhaps a marist North Side Championship that'll come your way next Friday 730 live from GPB just say simple park finals from the foray division.
We are live now from the Georgia Dome in the semifinal round home to his GHC playoffs and an injured player for the war eagles sean Romano going off the field for Mary's Romo the junior defensive back and wide receiver first and ten for the Raiders Henry Short drop trying to set a screen Molly Fletcher Right side raises fires threw it down field threw it high intended for Allen Gardner again but Henry not having enough time to get his feet set got a lot of air on that one.
Give credit once again to Cooper Taylor in deep coverage 631 75.
He's listed also as a quarterback but as a defensive back.
He's been responsible all evening long for those deep drops and done an excellent job in coverage.
Armstrong high second down ten now for the Raiders 29 left third quarter for Eagles Marist made their way to the Dome with a first round win over Ridgeland throw to nothing.
Then they got the cool of the Falcons.
14 to 7 lions had 141 yards in that ballgame.
And in the quarterfinals, quarterback Mark Marshall for 129 yards in that 24 to 6 win over Creekside first and 15 short drop by Henry ten You've got a receiver that's Hammonds free out in the flats near the first down marker That's a good pass and good reception.
That was the makeup catch for the drop earlier in the corner happened to be one of the lead receivers for Paulding would like nothing better to start hooking up with his quarterback yes decent size comes to the sideline now as the play call is being sorted out once again from the sideline.
Hey, coach John Reed is the quarterback.
Henry approaches the huddle.
No secret about it.
Now from trailing at 27 to nothing.
We'll see the aerial attack from the Raiders from here in second down and one roll right side.
Henry, tuck it away.
He'll run for it.
He's at the 30.
He's got a room at the corner now.
Scoots out of bounds near the 41 yard line.
Henry, as you know, Charles does that good.
He likes to run.
He's a classic drop back passer, saw space and really had no other choice but to try to pick up that first down on the ground, picks it up again and gets to the sideline.
Chaz Henry with the first down run for the Raiders under a minute remaining third quarter Oregon starting to get into that more of a prevent defense so things will soften up a bit in that 10 to 15 yard range pitch right side.
They're going to go on a reverse call.
You got a wall there.
Good block by him.
He tried to walk it to the.
Outside and good open field tackle by Derrick Haden for the War Eagles call.
You had an option of cutting it back to the inside.
He went to the outside, and that's where Haden was.
The last player for East Paulding.
It'll take a Patterson can get a block on the corner.
That play would have done what it was designed to do, but Patterson just wasn't able to get an angle on the tackler at the 40 yard line and a play that looked like it had some promise.
It stopped for about a yard loss.
It's a second down and 12 situation for the Raiders don't think they'll get this one off before the end of the third quarter.
They will not.
So at the end of three estimates War Eagles 27 and the Raiders of East Paulding nothing to step aside for the time out.
We'll come back with the fourth and final quarter of this semifinal match up 27 nothing score 12 minutes remaining in this semifinal match up class for a division matches leading at 27 to nothing the raiders taking it over with a second down and 12 start the fourth out in the flats with the catch as Collier Collier works his way up near the 46 yard line.
Good field tackle by Cooper.
Taylor and that's good you go ahead and give credit to the East Paulding supporter seated right below us still here, most of them standing trying to get their team, some support to see if they can get the ball in the end zone in this fourth quarter.
Fans from East Party, that's over in Dallas, Georgia, just about 30 miles from here prior to this season, 37 wins, 101 losses.
So they were really thrilled by what this East Paulding team has done to turn things around third down for pump on the Ground.
Smith They've had success with that play, but he said hard at the line of scrimmage this time.
First play there from Marist was number 35.
Dan Sutton didn't make the tackle but bounced the running back enough, throw him off balance, allow the other players to come in and clean up.
At that play all night long.
Smith has broken that one for significant yardage, but the Warrigal that time able to prevent that will make it fourth down, fourth and four for Chaz Henry and his Raider offense slots at the bottom of your screen Henry will roll that way rolling now trying to go up top Got a man behind the covers one overthrown and a flag going to come in at the end of that play was intended for Jarrett Carr.
And then are they going to catch Cooper Taylor number 11 of Marist for the hole defending on that last play had the right arm extended at about the 20 yard line.
So the flag with 1038 remaining in this football game will appear to give the Raiders a first down, and indeed it will on the replay.
Definitely some touching there.
As it appears the defense automatic first down, 15 yard.
So the line of scrimmage now will be the 37 yard line.
Raiders get the first down coach Chad with his 250th win in this quarterfinals last weekend, really into some real good company in the state of Georgia in terms of wins.
Pass up the field flag coming in at the end of that play.
But the catch was made by Collier here.
The 24 yard line threw a check out the flag.
Number 40, Sean Rummell, with the early contact in coverage will be a sad second of.
All the defense automatic first down.
But Marist supporters sitting on the sidelines not happy but there was contact.
Collier going up for that football and that'll put the football down at the 22 yard line comedies into tonight's ball game that's fairly well distributed there with six vs Paulding with five numerous even leads that category.
Henry is stacking up a lot of frequent flier miles, getting to the sideline for every play call in between plays, talk to his.
Coaches.
First and ten after the assessment.
The Raiders would love to get a confidence score here.
Tennessee on the Die Play Smith right side.
Smith dances his way to the ten still on his feet down near the seven yard line.
Tremendous balance by Smith the first player they had a shot at him from Mary's number 25 Sam McNerney Excellent job on the draw play, which has been one of the better plays in East Paulding Playbook.
With Smith.
Nice cut there to the outside and a good, tough run.
Cooper on the stop for the war Eagles, there has been a once bright spot for the Raiders.
It's been that play and Chris Smith first and goal rolling left side as Henry.
Still rolling now he'll tuck it at the five angles inside touchdown Raiders They.
Waited three quarters for it and the fans from East Paulding finally got a score from the radar offense Henry on now to try the point after and Henry drives it through on the extra point Raiders get on the scoreboard trailing at 27 to 7 to the war Eagles 10 minutes remaining in the game Things certainly can happen This one not closed out yet.
As you look at Henry on the roll and finally elects to tuck it away.
And he found the end zone.
Using his size at 631 95 to just pick his way looking for a receiver, but deciding at the last minute, well, in this close, I might as well take it the rest of the way.
You got to set it.
Also, head coach John Reid has got to be thinking now, if I can only get a defensive stop, we may be back in business, but he's has to be pleased with his team, at least getting on the scoreboard.
Seven plays, 80 yards, 2 minutes, seven yard touchdown run by Chaz Henry Raiders get on the scoreboard in this semifinal football game 1003 remains still thought of onside kick at this point.
But there will be perhaps thought of going no huddle on the next series.
But Raiders get on the scoreboard.
The fans from East Paulding gave them a rousing ovation for that.
They wait a long time.
They wait a long time to get to the playoffs.
You talked about it a few moments ago, that perhaps this game may be out of reach for them.
But you certainly want to play as best as you can for the remainder of time.
So you can continue to build.
Their players for East Paulding.
Feeling better about themselves and the fans feeling better about themselves.
They're allowing people to send text messages.
The sign to splash.
Let's go Raiders on the scoreboard.
Henry with a line drive kick over the head of everybody Touchback and the war Eagles will start it from their own 20 yard line.
Chaz Henry, quarterback, punter and kicker for the Raiders of East Paulding.
All already committed to the University of Florida perfect student at a 4.0 GPA who'll be going to the University of Florida as a kicker.
Incidentally, from the 28 hour Eagles leading a 27 to 7.
And it'll be all about exhausting that clock on the ground.
Somebody got Lyons by the foot, but he got it.
Got it up near the 26 yard line.
All those broke that one.
Nick kickoffs number 46 head lines.
And that's a great, honorable feeling when you're holding on and you don't have much else but an ankle and you're being dragged along about another two yards.
944 and the clock running here in the Georgia Dome.
Coach Chadwick and his coaching staff are probably looking for the equipment manager right about now, trying to find a spike or a nail and a hammer or something.
Just puncture that football, just deflate it, kill the clock sack.
And then for on the ground second man through hopping up top was Schuster.
Schuster they have them about two on the carry.
Excellent tackle in the middle of the field by number 51.
Colton Reed, the coach's son for East Paulding, now lined up on the interior line players that go two ways.
Get that jerseys, get that pockmarks on the top of it.
He's got the scars on the helmet.
He just says, I'm a football player.
And Cody Colt vindicated.
Playing for his father was a part of those two back to back championships when they were residing in Tennessee.
Third down one.
Now for the Warriors on the ground, Marshall will keep it spins ahead he's got enough for the first down.
Preston Lyons surely has turned in a great performance for the Warriors.
But you got to mention Gary Marshall in the same breath.
Marshall plays more like a basketball point guard than he does a football quarterback with his ball handling ability, really sets up his backs well and allows them the extra counts to pause the defenders, give them space to operate.
First ten After the run by Marshall on the ground, Lyons hops over one defender got it up near the 35 yard line, approaching 8 minutes remaining war Eagles winners of the four a championship in 2003 They won the three eight crown in 1989 about 8 minutes away from advancing to another final contest this year, trying to notch the third championship, second and seven.
Now from Arizona, misdirection.
They give it the lions.
Lions works his way near the 40 yard line to just rock him.
Talking football now with his head down.
Marist brought eight linemen to the offensive line of scrimmage.
And you could just tell by the way they were getting down in their stances that they were ready to just drive out on the snap of the ball.
Nothing bad.
Just a straight ahead zone blocked football.
They got enough of a push, bring up a very short third and about a yard and a half.
Line of scrimmage thrown 41.
Right side lions.
Got enough for the first down.
It's not pretty, but It's effective.
If you're an old school football fan, this is your kind of game because embarrassed is just lining up and they're not even making any pretense.
Try to get to the corner.
It's a straight ahead power football.
Or you called it early on.
This is this is what we do.
Can you stop it?
All right.
Now, the answer is no.
Raiders have not been able to stop it all long.
What's interesting about the first attack, just when you have the influence going with the East Paulding lineman, they come behind that influence, a short and very effective pass play.
First and ten from the 43 down left side.
They give it lions spins still fighting ahead got it up near in the 45.
So you can see the linebackers for East Paulding, Charles Keating closer and closer to the line of scrimmage.
On the previous snap.
Both linebackers will probably know further than two yards off the line.
Marist has exactly what they want, the influence, no.
Question about it.
You can't help but be drawn closer to the line of scrimmage given the situation in the game thinking they're just trying to kill the clock.
But boy, if there were Eagles were of that mindset.
The Lions just a phenomenal night 235 yards on the evening with 23 carries got the one touchdown.
I'm no mathematician.
It's about a ten year on.
Average and he allowed a little more to it this time going left side pick up of about seven 5 minutes and he puts it with 530 left in the ballgame Boston wide Tyra on the stop for the Raiders There was just nothing on the initial stop that pulls lions down.
They'll take one shot and keep rolling forward.
Speaking of rolling the clock continues to roll approaching the five minute mark.
Sorry the team has 40 seniors on the roster this seniors are responsible for 47 wins as they go option left side Marshall will keep this win this time himself spends his way into Raider territory.
The East Paulding supporter seated on the near sideline just gave their team a nice round of applause.
It got to be feeling that even though you may be down 27 seven, you've given a lot to cheer about this season.
Indeed, you're right team that finished three and seven last year and over the last six years you had finishes of one and nine and zero and ten.
Only eight of those year they had eight finishes in that category.
I have a feeling that John Reid and his transplanted family from Tennessee will not be strangers to the Georgia Dome.
He has already set his mark in his first year over in Dallas, Georgia, fourth and less than one for the war.
Eagles first down whistles at the line of scrimmage and a timeout taken by Coach Chadwick and Marist.
So the Raiders finished his season on a high note with that first playoff record, but the timeout taken by the Warrior Eagles and coach Alan Chadwick and this is what he likes about the coaching profession.
I think Friday nights, this is what it's all about.
Just the thrill and the excitement and anticipation of Friday nights.
It just is a great time too to see if you've got a chance to be successful with your work and your efforts, if they can come together for you.
And I just enjoy that kind of rush that you get on Friday nights.
Well, he's had a lot of them over 31 years, 22 years as a head coach in Marist.
He is the school's winningest coach in the seventh winningest active coach in the state of Georgia.
He's got a tip, his hand there.
He said he liked the rush he gets on Friday nights.
That's what this team is all about.
The recent game.
For the last of the air to go here for the war Eagles there at the 48 yard line of the Raiders not they're going to show punt and Barnes step back to do that they'll see if they can get the Raiders to jump first.
Now they will kick it when they were coming after it and he was bumped after the play.
It was Barnes with an acting job trying to get a flag as Gonzalez receives it for the Raiders.
And that's where the Raider will take it back on offense.
Now let's go over to Coach John Reid and get an idea about what he likes about this coaching profession.
I think the fact that you can take a kid and make grow as a freshman into what you see as a senior is a kid that is respectful and and a good citizen and a good, good football player along with a good student.
I think to see that happen, that's the best part about coaching and it's also great to work with the other coaches and have that camaraderie and and working for the common goal of helping kids work.
We've done that pretty much all day long from the 9:00 game to now on to a man each coach all of them indicating the fact that this profession allows them to contribute to the development, these young players into good citizens.
Probably one of the first things they did when they sat down with John Reid and George, they said, okay, coach, you're here for Tennessee.
Just don't play Rocky Top.
That pass was incomplete by Henry.
There ain't a quarterback and he's got to go to Georgia on my mind.
Now, right?
You got to quit, Steve.
Thank you.
States, you know surely Tennessee's losses Georgia's game Henry now second down ten or under 4 minutes remaining short drop pass batted at the line call you looked it and it went behind and Phillips tipped it for the war Eagles.
Staying with the passing game in East Paulding that is just haven't really been able to get their quarterback on track as chess.
Henry has struggled all evening long.
Returning starters, Raiders coming back.
Next year, we'll have two on offense and six on the defensive end.
So it goes back to your comment about Coach Reid and what he's built there at.
He's salty and what will come in the future.
Henry drops looking up They're going up top trying to get at the Collier Collier lays out the 40 to pass slightly thrown Tootie.
That was the best deep ball he's thrown all evening talking about Chaz Henry working in coverage against Mary's Derek Haden number 28 and gets up a little slowly but give credit to Haden for staying with the receiver step first step.
As overthrown and that'll make it fourth 348 remaining in the football game and we got a timeout taken the raiders take the timeout credit coach Reid he's coaching his team right to the very end exactly.
Getting into the habit of doing things correctly from start to finish bringing his entire offensive unit to the sideline to see if they could get one more play call on this fourth and long.
Nightcap here at the Georgia Dome.
Other earlier action from semifinals, the three division.
It was short over Carver of 14.
Good way to start today's festivities.
Great ball game to get us starting at 9:00 and the other triple AA contest, it was Peach County all over Washington County, 43 to 29.
So our three eight championships are already set.
And at the 3:00 game it is Dublin all over love at 65 to 7 in that matchup and then at 6:00 north side defeated St Ives 2217 in the foray match up to North Side we'll meet the winner of this contest which is looking like it's going to be the worry those embarrassed Henry now back the punt from the five they have no choice but to kick it away nobody back to receive the punt on a bounce near the 41 build it there and that's where the Raiders will give it back to the war Eagles on offense from their own 41/4 in about ten on that play 340 remaining in the contest.
We talked about Coach Reid and being logical about the game approach and there you have to punt it.
Marist is going to be making wholesale substitutions on this last series of the game, apparently with 3 minutes and 40 seconds remaining.
Look at all the clean, crisp white jerseys.
So Madison now will go with Carl Farmer.
The sophomore will start to play, calling his last 3 minutes, 40 seconds on the ground.
Right side with the football.
It's Trix Carrano, the senior and a great night for Preston Lions as he took a well-deserved seat and won't even take it as he paces the sidelines of the war, Eagles still probably got his gears up drive.
It's got a motor on them, but a unquestionable candidate for one of the most valuable players to embarrassed this semifinal game.
No question.
He'll have to put his feet up tomorrow, over 200 yards in, rushing alone.
Coach Chadwick and the War Eagles, 3 minutes, 33 seconds away from the finals approach next week for a finals.
Coach Alan Chadwick has that look on his face as if he's already looking ahead to next week.
And what my strategy is going to be.
So I'm pondering at the sideline.
He does give you the impression of a coach that does a lot of celebrating, very businesslike, an approach, very serious.
It really carries over to his team.
The players take on the personality of their coaches and Marist has been workmanlike all evening.
Or you call the blue collar a while back.
That fits perfectly.
The question in his mind is perhaps all of our minds watching this ballgame is what in the world is it that the war eagles have to improve upon next weekend's?
They surely will see a quick team though and the Eagles are north side second down and not by side with the terriers.
Renee Jones, the senior for the War Eagles.
And Jones gets it up near the 45.
You know, it's interesting, Charles, when you have a system, you can plug players in.
And on that first play with even all the subs in the game they ran offense as crisply as the first unit of the.
You're right.
But you start talking about the quality of the program.
That's what you look at.
First team.
Yeah, no question about it.
But what does your second team do and are they just as hungry?
Do they execute just as well as your first team?
Third down and six.
I love an.
Area by Louis right side.
I will say one thing about Mary's.
They have a corner on the five nine quarterback market at.
That last snap, Kyle Farmer took a shot from the linebacker feed.
Spalding looked like just laughing, but just simply shook it up, got up, dusted himself open.
Goes to the sideline now.
Well I don't make at the fourth down situation now for the war Eagles 222 on the clock remain right remaining on the clock here as Barnes will get set the it away for Marist.
Mary's has so many guys you want to they have a maximum height requirement on that team everything down the roster is 58595559.
If we have not been committal in terms of where that championship ballgame will be next weekend, right now, our working assumption is that if should Mary's win this contest, we're going to actually have a coin toss determined to determine who will actually host the championship ballgame next weekend.
So stay to this.
CHADWICK With his attempt at acting, telling his putter to put it, he's got to be pleased with the team's performance tonight.
They have just dominated the Raiders from the word go Barnes to kick it, build it by going to those canals.
Did he call fair catch.
Think it was is part of return Ben Collier that signal fair catch and those that being aware of the call simply tried to return it.
He stopped the play before it got started.
This is what we are next week in terms of finals or championship all games it'll be Northside the Eagles of Northside meeting the war Eagles embarrassed that's Friday December 15th at 730 it place yet to be determined but it will be 730 live on GPB.
Then the five eight comes your way next Saturday night the 16th 730 be either Roswell or 10th county versus Peach Peachtree Ridge or Warner Robins.
Of course that five a semifinal match up coming your way tomorrow night.
In the nightcap, Henry rolls right side up to the 20 to the 21 yard line star stargell on the stop for Marist.
As our satellite reporter John Nelson predicted, there was an outside chance that we might have had two games in Warner Robins next week.
They do, right?
Right now.
City Divided faces for Warner Robins in the North Side.
Roy, you better not go to the wrong barbershop.
Second down and seven approach a minute remaining pitch the left side Smith looking for some room Works his way up near the 20.
Four We'll have to do some digging to see if there's ever been a championship consecutive game series in one city.
Good question.
To give John Nelson about 30 minutes.
We'll have an answer somewhere.
You give him about a minute, he'll find it.
Mr. Research for less than a minute remains now as Henry, the senior quarterback for the Raiders, taking his last snaps as a quarterback.
Smith will work at right side, hogtied and thrown down near the 27 yard line.
Sean Romo on the stop for the war eagles and coach Chadwick done with the headsets for tonight in a job well done by his coaching staff and his team.
The supporters stand.
As one on the far sideline.
Celebrating a huge win for this very celebrated team.
That's trying to keep the players back, not let that clock run down.
Congratulations to Coach Chadwick, 251st Career Win.
Smith walks it to the outside just in front of that Marist bench with 2 seconds remaining.
Coach Chadwick, a bit impatient for that clock to run off.
I can hardly take another second.
So the War Eagles capping off a fine season up to this semifinal opponent.
Only regular season loss was to Tucker into that second game of the season.
You heard Coach Chadwick allude to that in his comments, that they really went on a roll and just started to really themselves after that loss to Tucker ran the table after that, you know, running away now through the city final ballgame.
Henry with his last snap as a right a quarterback he'll take the drop looking out field here comes the pressure and he'll be sacked so the war eagles finished just like they started dominating Gobert on that stack of Henry Mary's wins at 27 to 7 over the Raiders of East Paulding Marist will advance to the championship game.
Outstanding effort by the Marist offense, setting the tone and really dictating the entire ballgame with that tough inside the tackle running attack.
You talked about it on the top of the ball game that if they could assert themselves and show their dominance in terms of running, it would be a long night for East falling.
And indeed it was.
It was a game of personality.
Charles And it was simply the personality of Marist that led to this one sided 27 seven.
Performance by Preston Lions and quarterback Garry Marshall.
That duo just really had their way in terms of running that offense.
I think.
Marshall, had you faked a few times early in the ball game.
John Nelson standing by with coach Chad McNally.
The second round against McCullough.
You were down seven.
Nothing.
Preston Lyons came up big.
He came up big again tonight and get you another state championship look.
Well, we got a shot.
You know, we got another chance, another week to be with these kids.
You know, it's great.
We're we're enjoying every moment of it.
We're a little beat up right now.
So that's a big concern of ours.
But I thought our defense came up really big tonight with a team that was averaging over 40 points a game.
We only gave up seven points and that was really huge.
We've been a lot at times, but we didn't break and they kept hanging in there and forcing some plays and I can't be more proud of that.
And our offense moved the ball pretty well through the night, so.
Now you get one more chance to get another championship.
Look at North Side for me, even though you're probably going to celebrate this win a little bit.
Yeah, I'm going enjoy this one tonight.
We got to do the film exchange right now in a little while.
So, you know, I'm just going to enjoy this one tonight and we'll get started tomorrow and see what happens.
Fair enough.
Alex Chadwick, we will see you next Friday night.
For 30 minutes from now, we get a coin flip to determine where they're going to play, but at least we know who is going to be.
Charles and Mark Marist and North Side Robins back upstairs.
Thank you.
John Maris wins at 27 to 7 over.
The Raiders will step aside for a timeout.
We'll come back with a wrap up from the Georgia Dome semifinal match up has concluded here.
Marist wins it 27 to 7 over the Raiders of East Paulding.
Marist advances to the championship ballgame next weekend against the Eagles of Northside Warner Robins.
Full day of action tomorrow coming from the Georgia Dome Athens Academy in Clinch County, starting It off at 9:00 in the Class AA division.
Then at 12, we have more football action coming your way.
We're comments to the tigers meet the red devils of Lincoln County in.
Another single day action from that contest at 12 from the Georgia Dome.
After that, it's a double play action at 3:00.
The Indians of Charlton County and the Bobcats of Early County will fight it out to see who advances to the championship round.
And then after the three, we go to the 6:00 ballgame.
It's the Hornets of Roswell and the Blue Devils of Tip County, both at 1201, 12 and one.
They'll fight it out for the five eight championship.
And then at 9:00 tomorrow night, it's the lions of Peachtree Ridge and the Demons at Warner Robins getting set for that ballgame.
Once again, final score from here.
And 27 to 7, Maris wins it over the Raiders of East Paulding.
For Mark, John and all of us at GPB, I'm Ward.
Thanks so much for watching.
We'll see you tomorrow.
