It's the GHC five eight boys basketball title game between the Savannah Blue Jackets and the Brick Farm Patriots.
And hello, everybody, and welcome once again to Championship Weekend here on TV.
I'm Jim Pinocchio.
single-A, Double-A triple-A quality in the books.
Later on in the broadcast, we'll have highlights of all those games.
For now, it's the five eight championship.
Frick marks Savannah with the call downstairs.
Let's go to Charles Ward and the elevator from Decatur, Mr. Herb White.
Hey, guys.
Hey, Jimmy.
And good evening, everybody, and welcome to the five championship.
Charles Ward.
Herb White with the play call for a rematch of the 1998 highest division in the state.
Then quite a match up between Burke, Mark and Savannah.
Good ball.
Game on tap.
Let's start out by talking about the blue jackets of Savannah and how they actually made it here to the finals at the ballgame tonight.
Yeah, let's take a look at that road to the final four.
I saw the semifinal game the other night.
There been some good ball clubs and I'll tell you, that game the other night with Marietta was really something that they went back and forth, back and forth.
I thought Savannah was toast with about 5 minutes to go and they really dug down and gutted it out and pulled it out right at the end.
And part of the reason that they did we'll take a look at the numbers on Jamal's reign, a big factor in that blue jacket offense as well as the defense.
Yeah, he is.
But he had a subpar game the other night, at least offensively only had four points.
And I bet Jamal's going to look back at that and say, Hey, I'm going to make up for it tonight and come out and really play in this ballgame.
Now for the defending champs with a 42 vision, the Patriots the mark.
Let's take a look at how they made it here tonight.
They had another great ballgame in the semifinals again, beating some good teams to get here.
And the other night, just a great, great basketball game.
But they came out and whoops, we got the wrong classic up there.
Well, they did it and then some.
But anyhow, it was Glynn Academy from Brunswick with the great Kwame Brown.
That was that was a classic confrontation of a great team against a great player, went into overtime and Bobby Brown couldn't get it down at the end of overtime and Berkman pulled it out.
Talk about some of the personnel for the patriots of Burke Moral High School.
As you look at some of the players warming up now, one of the players, Sean, it was a big factor in that Patriot offense as well as the defense.
And it should be a big challenge for them tonight in the ballgame as we start taking a look at the starting lineup for both squads and tonight's ball game capacity crowd here in the center, Flex and Macon expecting a good contest between these two squads.
The defending state party stands against the team that they met in 1998.
If you take a look at the starting lineup for the Blue Jackets of Savannah, it'll make them all green.
And one of the guards and a big man in the semifinals, Williams had a big night.
He finished with 16 points in that ballgame.
Eric Young will go at the center, combine at the forward and now Aaron Brown at the other four for the Blue Jackets of Savannah to come to a set of players of the half starting tonight Savannah 31 and one on the season.
Yeah and they're a team that gets it done on defense Charles and they averaged 60 points a game but they limit their opponents to 45 points a game and of course we know Butler certainly a great offensive machine at 85 points a game that Savannah gave up 30 in the first half the other night.
And I know that Georgia was not happy about that, but they came out with a much better job in the second they live and die off their defense and off turnovers from their pressure.
Coach Jordan, with that 31 and one record, doesn't think that that team is getting enough credit out of Savannah.
They're 31 and one and he thinks already throughout the entire country a team like that should be getting a little bit more notoriety.
But if they win it tonight, I certainly get tired.
And I think, you know, sometimes we change on that one great standout player players get a lot of publicity and they don't really have that.
They're really well balanced team.
You know, they've got about four or five players from eight points on up to 14.
And and they don't have any superstar, but they are the quintessential team and they're going to play a lot of people and they're going to get after it.
They're going to try to create havoc with their full court press.
This Savannah team with a 23 game winning streak coming into the ball game tonight in their second appearance in four years in the finals.
Oh, geez.
I think they say all here in the state of Georgia.
So this is an experienced team in terms of playoffs competition.
So they certainly won't knuckle down to the defending champion for an individual from last year.
No, they won't.
And a great basketball tradition on Savannah to take a look at the starting lineup of our are the patriots will go at border guards one at the other and this wing position will be Williams in our role and then the middle section it looks yeah how many times have we seen these guys It's like old home.
We got borders in Epcot and Arnold and those guys, all seniors.
Now we've been watching them since they were freshmen and sophomores down here in the state tournament.
And you know that this is the kind of a team, a veteran team is probably going to come out and play well early in their third appearance in the state finals in the last four years.
So you talk about experience as well.
They've got it and they want it last year.
So they're riding high off of that.
This could be the first back to back champs and the largest division in the state of Georgia since we had in 79 with southwest Macon.
So a lot on the line for both squads tonight.
And boy, it should be a good ballgame.
Patriots at 28 at four and the Savannah blue Jackets at 31 and one.
That's what we have on tap for you here in the five a final matchup.
We'll have it all for you after this break.
Funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following you're watching Member supported GPB, your PBS station, bringing you the best.
You're watching the USA Basketball Championships on TV.
We are back live at the Macon Central Flex Coliseum.
Final ball game of the year to find a matchup.
They went to Japan five eight champ of the season.
It's the blue jackets of Savannah and the Patriots of Denmark.
They wanted to tie it up to determine who will be the champs for this year.
Charles, I'll tell you, Savannah is really going to have to play their A-game tonight because, again, they rely on pressure and they rely on turnovers from the other team.
And this Burke Martin being the veteran team and with all the different ways they can score and Adrian Borders, the great point guard Savannah is really going to have to turn it up and be on top of their game.
Patriots went into overtime in their semifinal ballgame.
In the issue of fatigue coming into this one, I don't think so.
These guys played 32 games all out all year, so they're in great shape at the tap and we are underway with a five AA championship.
It's consoled finally by the Blue Jackets just underway.
Williams can lay off, but not for a long time to come, and he gets the blue jackets on the board with the triple.
Here comes the pressure.
Pressure.
Now that comes across time Green guarding an outside order at the block.
The guys finally get it back to back up front after fire.
A three pointer remarks things out of their blue jackets back the other way.
Chance to build on a three point lead.
Williams right side off the dribble and the block he goes to Brown Wow Back off the greens makes it at the front of the sun Combine backside rebound and center He missed it on tear down Here come the Patriots now all right the next time taken away by green three for the glass whistle down low down on the five Just a classic match up here Charles again Burke energy in 85 points a game a great offensive machine against the tremendous defense of the Savannah blue jackets And now the other good thing is both teams matched up pretty well quickness and size wise, it's not really a high discrepancy.
We've seen some of the other ballgames.
That's David Gordon, his fourth season.
I think Mark took a look at it for 21.
Very impressive, but not always the case.
Faced a guy like David Boyce there.
He takes his team, plays in those out of state tournaments all year long, plays great teams around the country and gets his team really tournament tough at the end of the year.
He's average on the season, 14 points, four assists, but his first and second points here and this 585 mark more across the timeline looks on the right side of the block.
Nicely done over the wall again for the lay and 51 zone press advantage using the net can get a layup on if he can beat the initial pressure and bond right side up on Williams now it's man to man and hammers right corner up top for the glass shot at hard The long rebound comes away for the blue jackets green fires another three and fires it for the blue jackets eight to new jackets lead it Butler back the other way Whistle down low to long range jumpers by the blue jackets early on here heard the signal that they are interested in getting the outside game established.
Yeah they didn't shoot very well the other night.
They're the kind of team you don't want to let them get out in front of you very far because that's really going to fuel that defense and our officiating crew for this ballgame.
Dave Low, Andy Burke and Randy Oglesby to look at 610 Georgia, six season at Savannah, but it's 54 wins for coach Jordan Markman in the corner awarded Mr. MATTHEWS an awesome three down here by Brown hammers across the time line walks to the right side stand back up top Aaron past selected by the blue jackets so try to get it up top the yard that corner now down at the block and try to work it inside to Jackson.
Take a look at the three point situation thus far.
Savannah three offerings to get on to baqubah, you have to come up with a three pointer.
They tried twice and tim jordan staying with this.
He's running players in and out and they'll do that all night.
They play about ten and the savannah just as a city with a great basketball tradition Charles Jenkins and Savannah and beach and all those great schools in back for Meyer, they've been a great team.
I know that area well myself.
I played a lot of those schools in Savannah when I was up in Statesboro back the other way.
I'm a runner on the inside.
I want to give them the basket nicely done by Pacman on the move and he draws a foul.
Yeah, I saw that clip of you in the football playoffs, by the way, Charles.
Quite an impressive figure out there right on the replay comes Patton and look at the runner Nicely done in the paint they call him the pace setter and there he just set a nice little pace on the inside.
That's the basis to cutting through that lead that would lead from there on Pacman.
The converse of course, pressure now.
But what's more, they got a steal in the backfield for the whistle.
They're standing on the inbound line.
You just got the sense that this is going to be a ball game.
It is going to be tightly played, although it is very well played in terms of the teams, veteran teams, they've been here before and that's the good that Blue Jackets back out, sit down, blow the whistle down.
Portis had it in Houston and then found Lamar on the left of the Senator Jackets and it, let's say down below Arnold commits to file Kurt Mana and a man right now.
But coach, they will change up just many, many different defenses throughout the night.
David Boyd likes to change those defenses.
Young With the end pass and Williams back to Young at the BLOCK, he missed Emory and that is staying with the Blue Jackets.
And now they reverse the call.
Herb They'll take it back the other way.
So the officials not standing out.
There you go.
Quarter handles in the back four now into the fourth to the glass.
So down low, Williams took a hard tumble in the paint.
Oh, he came down right on the back of his neck.
It's like he's racing to the grass.
Looks like they locked legs and knocked him off balance.
Certainly didn't go up under him, just off balance.
Take a look at the replay coming right side.
Yeah, they just kind of sliced off from under him.
Boy, that's a tough fall there, though.
Major David Gordon has to the Clark Williams, one of three players on this squad.
Well, David Boyd asking if he didn't go up under him.
But you could see on the replay actually that was created by the Burke more player going in actually created the on the contact.
The deadline for entries into Georgia natural gas.
Easy for me to say true blue scholarship has been extended to April 16th.
Stay tuned during the game for more information on nominating a deserving male and female student athlete.
Georgia Natural Gas Blue Scholarship.
Yeah, that's just for any parents out there that might want to see $1,000 extra to help send their child to school.
That's a good way to do it.
As Williams, it's a nice ovation from the crowd headed back to the Bach ma bench.
A lot of activity going on earlier today in the state class AA championship.
It was Taylor County being crowned champs 5839 over Buford and the Double A, it was East Hall defeating Calhoun 7867 Triple A, West Westover in a big way over Mitchell Baker, 7844 and in the quarter majority over Mays 6654.
A lot of good basketball action throughout today, same tomorrow.
Yeah.
Westover may want to go out and try to get in the end of the SCC tournament will decide the kind of players they got get the feeling make a play.
They're very competitive back the other way looking at the sideline looks like Williams went in come back in next step ball as rim goes to them for the blue jackets and he converts offensive and a nice offensive floater later ten six early on WHISTLE at the mid court strike and Kevin Mauser came in and shot three free throws and made it from the player.
That's the only time you can substitute a free throw shooter.
But he came in cold off the bench and knocked down two.
That's a tough assignment.
Well, free throws were a tough assignment for me anyway.
Three quarters just in front of us to inbound it off frontal section.
You look at the right side.
Williams The three, How does it look to put it down, though?
Floaters clear the air and shot patriots down at the block to the glass whistle inside that's Savannah defense swarms of the ball as well as any team I've seen draws one guys on you one man and then as soon as you go to the basket three are all around just about to say the same thing.
Herb pick was quick within himself as they look on the replay here, but look how quickly the blue Jackets get down at the block.
They're to converge on the speed.
No, but that's great defense teaching to get to the ball at the moment.
That question works on the first.
Take a look at this season averaged 15 points, ten rebounds, double doubles.
It's the season in terms of the average.
He got them both on the line.
He won a three players for the Pacers, enjoying their thousand points from the Blue Jackets in the Florida house and traffic just the same Mr. Williams talked about my boss dribble over the borders borders and traffic to the center Nice controlled right there.
They didn't force it.
They waited for something to happen and something did happen at the top of ten blue jackets last night that they think it justice coming on the inside.
Oh, we talked.
It's not bad defense that's just excellent execution dangerous the right side of the floor now Monroe handles in traffic over the borders on the move Russell on the play is guilty at the shallow Oh on the replay back the other way inside for the blue jackets Easy stuff on the inside by Thomas Williams What's that across the timeline pattern with the defensive assignment inside trying to get it inside of the and across the floor to catch the jacket to lose it on the turnover yeah Savannah night court not quite the polished offensive team in the halfcourt offense and Burke Murray as they'd rather be going up and down the floor with a lot of speed and they may circle it when they get into that halfcourt offense convert more also plays good team defense absolutely As David Boyd fond of saying and often says tickets that his defense that wins championships so now on the face of it in the the floor that was fouled for more than one minute.
I know the situation thus far they will play on the edge their way towards that and that's what Katy's coming out for.
Angel Stadium has actually taken away that illusion kind of thrown up there with a threat.
And for those two jackets, when asked to make a tremendous second down violation, those two great defensive plays, one for Savannah getting the ball and one for Borders coming out, putting the pressure on.
So far, Mark takes it back and trail by two.
That has crossed the timeline that's outside still.
You are the blue jackets once again.
This was stolen by the glass yesterday and good on the so quick are the blue jackets.
Nice anticipation at the corners and the left side in traffic to Williams and Williams over to on it quick move first half of the quarter basketball on on on the side at the pass to Williams New Orleans the percentage of small force to come on line and the 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter I'm on right side on the move back firing snap all just a rebound young players blue jackets with another set number 16 shot the backside rebound for the jackets once again we'll live with that loss the three Jackson and a lot more result and behind it another backside rebound for the inside the paint and finally gets a runner by Thomas that really hurts coach David Boyd over there's three offensive rebounds and finally the basket sure that many opportunities you're going to come away with something happening across the timeline waters left side and I'm looking at the next one to go on the move and stack lost it in the paint.
It's the sense of work by the Blue Jackets up to 47 points.
Rice had a solid behind the Senegal basketball, so the Heat took it a little too far that time.
Actually had it on a three on one coming down the floor.
There were calls to fire him to the basket.
Oh, he's going to slow down, gotten the ball to the middle, got a little more balance on the floor, Savannah, with mass substitutions.
Once again under a minute, remains in this first period, 1612 blue jackets.
I don't know if it's a surprise, but they have the lead at this point.
As borders comes to the timeline, a lot of trap them out front.
The blue jackets jumped quarter borders across the timeline.
Savannah is one of those teams.
They're going to push it as far as they can.
They're going to hack and hack in this process will start calling it.
They probably back off a little bit as long as they can make contact and not get a call.
They're going to be all over the next on the inbound flying over the borders in the coming quarters for the glass.
And we've an area, the borders that falls.
In the case of missing an aerial attack on that truck, that's the other way spinning in the corner here with us up nicely done by Roy Nice under control.
So they trade rocks Florida is back the other way.
Now.
This is the final shot whistle on the play Patriots guilty of the travel also may try to play it down to the end Herb yeah I got to go on inside with it 22 minutes to travel violation Well if I would have held for one but he got the ball in the paint.
Thought he could make the move and get the basket.
He just traveled it.
Savannah really liked to get another two.
Here come the blue jackets across the timeline.
Jackson picks up the left side temple in traffic, right side from about five shots off the mark by Williams and that'll bring this to the end of the first period leading 1814 blue jackets over the Patriots back with the start of the second half of this funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball championships is provided in part by the following.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV that we are backlogged to make them central tracks getting set for the second period.
Rob Several standing by courtside.
Rob Charles Burke Moore is one of those teams that is absolutely despised by the other teams in this region.
They have a certain swagger.
They play with a little bit of arrogance.
Meanwhile, on the Savannah side, they're just looking for little respect.
They're 31 and one, and it seems like no one even knows about them.
So I guess it's a case of arrogance against persecution.
Who's going to win out here?
Thanks, Rob.
That's a heavy philosophical question.
It may take a few minutes for us to ponder that one.
Right now.
We're going to need a half time break to get to have us as we get set for the second period, Borders will inbound it for the third place problems in this thing.
This is patriots out front and this is all we missed on it.
Williams got the backside rebound he was scripted by the blue jackets Muslims down low it'll stay with Kirk Moore on their side of the floor all of them down the down low nasty down on the in down play that's a foul on the same yellow half court press now looks like a131 scrap possible I didn't hear the time line it's Williams steps into the floor and the trap works effectively for Butler to come away with the steal of the floor.
Mark Williams to the glass missed on the lay and rebound taken by green from the blue jackets.
Green spins in the paint Mr. Ball on brown missed it and the track race starting here now the center flex Arnold a the front court next down yes sorry guys Patrick can tie it with a three pointer here corner at the block Excellent workhorse for the glass knocking anyone any aside Nice job to finish.
After the contact he is going to get hit and stayed under control.
You know, Charles I like that by David Boyd.
It's one thing to pressure somebody 94 feet for the whole game.
Let's see the replay on that.
You see?
Good job.
He knew he was a bigger player and it was just the basket.
But I tell you, I always hated to play against a team that changed their defenses.
So give me one look for 5 minutes and then a little while later they show another look at things can be very disconcerting.
Sometimes you can adjust your team.
The pressures, the whole game.
Sometimes it's tough to establish their consistency if they keep changing on you as next and converts on the free throw line.
I think, Steve, what you want to do in this 131 trap, they will try to double team in the corners, cut off the pass.
That's a jumper.
Williams converts again but they didn't cut off that passing lane that to Williams 616 in the semifinals on his way right here to another good contest for the blue jackets out front Payton left side borders now at the block Williams working on Campbell not the shot to the center but he missed extra backside rebound and the put back he left it on the seven rebound clear though Patriots down at the block Williams whistles offensive has a great pass by Williams but when he came down he came down slammed as defensive player and they call the foul oh 35 called on Arnold for the Patriots so we go back to the other way Herb and the 131 chance they're going to stick with that Williams looking at it as he comes to the time line kicks it right side green to go down at the block 211 basketballs taken by brown jump ball hard arrow with the blue jackets and nice block there by the blue jackets right up there still in there talk about it on the replay because I looked down at those young try to get it to the senator.
We come back a live action quarters back for the Patriots right side Wilson on the play at least pushing off it looks like it threw that forearm out He was trying to control the ball and avoid the steal and he stuck that for all of the Savannah players chest.
So blue jackets will have it now Savannah doing a good job against the 131.
They've got their people deep in both corners and they're showing over that traffic.
You can listen and watch all of the state playoff games on the internet.
7.6.18.
All the games will be available for the entire month.
Thanks.
W w w that battle over here on the Blue Jackets end of the floor.
They'll inbound with 25 to 6 pass on the inside.
And I think everybody was quite set for the play in right corner two yards up to Cam von Daniels at play he's tied up of the post take it down low and army's got a nice job here inside the paint.
Great job.
Savannah's doing exactly what you want to do.
They're not trying to beat that person with the dribble.
They're just making the great passes We talked about experience teams.
That was a good symbol of it right there.
Next up for the Patriots in traffic down low at the block Williams Allen's down low is going to be called on Eric Young, a senior from Savannah High really a pleasure to do a game when two teams are veteran like this and in a big game and they're both playing well and Williams will go to the line for the Patriots.
Both teams also good free throw shooting games as you'd expect and a lot of seniors and Josh Williams converts on the first he had 25 in the semifinal ballgame against Glenn Academy and that was a big challenge for the Patriots about more seats at that academy team with on yeah Burke Moore with their tallest player at about six six and Bobby Brown just a great great high school player Williams averaging 20 points on the season missed on the sackable offense on the line and Jackson on the floor after Brian Williams on the move again those two shots still got it for the long rebound from zero to Williams and the Patriots Try it down low pass by Williams it's loose on the floor and they're going to say that Harry Williams is out of bounds and step back in So they're going to give the basketball of our car as we take a look at the field goals.
Savannah putting it up a lot more.
The converted on ten of 21 basketball with just 13 shots in this first half whistle inside the paint Mark Williams guilty of the offensive side now that great defensive foot movement again you don't play defense with your body, you play it with your feet.
Speaking to Kwami Brown, I just soon to go on to the NBA, Charles, because as a Bulldogs fan, I don't want to see him in that Gator uniform next year.
That could cause some problems for the guys in the red and black.
And we had our share last year where the blue jackets across the timeline, the backboard pressure that he was tapped by the Patriots to the Blue Jackets back inside the paint.
That's young Ernie Banks.
It is so the blue Jackets, very patient on the inside.
They're getting the results they want matching the right side with the pass are now topic but the left side tackling at the block waters now waters coming back in five at the jumper he missed There's a whistle that's him Jordan didn't like it but that's the one they're going to have to call.
He can't let Savannah get away with all of bumps.
They're just going to have too much of an advantage.
So Limbaugh is a senior will go to the line for the Patriots.
And we've seen three great big men in this tournament.
He had Tommy Brown we mentioned in Marcus Campbell with West over in the game before.
Unfortunately, he's going to be a bulldog, but it Mississippi State bulldog Yeah Alexander Johnson in the west and in the last ball game to guard he is going to be a great player he already is and he's got another year left.
So state of Georgia continuing to put out those great big men.
And Byron back out on the floor for the Blue Jackets.
Waters got one he missed on the second rebound cleared by Williams 4 minutes remaining first half green up top for the blue jackets walking this green right side on the way Sam bonds where he fires a three has it look at his locker Yeah he was in his rhythm then you knew that was going and Mark Morris gone back into the straight man to man came out of the 131 draft with no success.
That time the Blue Jackets really set that shot up the fan bonded have been working so hard in the second period combined free from the outside Pacers kind of collapsed on the defense Patman felt the other double trouble in the front four tight pressured by the blue jackets.
Thornton Yeah a little bit of a crisis here now for Bert Maas.
They haven't scored the last two or three trips down the floor, and Savannah began to play with some confidence and Williams to the timeline and over situation.
Just what you talked about.
Herb Morrow with 11 turnovers Savannah only a far with five at this point 66 as board as players on the way to the glass borders Mr. O'Malley and Williams clear for the jackets they got a five on three back out the ten down behind the arc now up top 3 to 5 three point missed it right side the backside rebound comes a little brown across the floor Joe Williams shot it high and high, finally cleared by both man on and off the floor borders.
The splitting and can't catch up with Savannah's forcing him to try to play a little too fast.
Maybe for Bert Morin, having seen the stats, I got to feel like Savannah's winning the war of the boards right now.
Patriots, turn it over so the Blue Jackets come back the other way and enjoy a six point lead that's quarter combined after all this time down in the corner green on the move that's corner jumper he missed nickel clear out pass borders ahead of the French borders whistle on the prince the final thought I'm gonna say a lot of movement there but they got the call Savannah is just a team it's unbelievable how they get back Borders was out in front before he finished his shot.
Three Savannah players were in the paint.
It was a close call, but watch this now.
There'll be two more guys in Savannah right behind.
Look at that.
That's four guys.
That's unbelievable.
Harry Williams took the charge and as you indicate, a so quick getting back down the floor.
Ordinarily the Patriots think that that's probably going to be an easy lay.
The hardest new program to air on TBS is coming soon.
14 high school students captured their lives on video.
Don't miss American High beginning April 4th, right here on TV.
What they're going to come up with over there for the last couple of minutes of this.
Happy to get back in a laughing.
That's why I want you to get the ball inside or not.
Come on, you can do it now.
Come on now.
It's go down.
Good, guys.
I'm now passed them around.
They're better than little.
It sounded like he was trying while inside.
Work itself inside the 22 remaining in this first half blue jackets are Savannah, 31 and one on the regular season, ranked number two in the five division, newly created division here in the state of Georgia for the first time as a state champion in five.
And certainly this game being played at the pace Savannah wants it and also in the scoring places.
They like the lower scoring game holes across the timeline for Savannah and nine works on the right side of top on the leaves coming out of the Alamo He missed that five put back by the blue jackets.
It's for these players he wants to run on his right side all the way to the glass, three blue jackets down low converging on somebody fouled and a boy.
You talk about the pace of the blue jackets that's good transition basketball.
That's just a blue curtain.
I don't know if I've ever seen a team get back and get into the paint and get to the ball as fast as a Savannah team on a replay what they call the foul on.
Yeah, it looks like it's not on tap, but extra foul.
Jackson had a lot of holiday blunders with the free throw he connects on the first and something else to look out for this thing Savannah substituted freely throughout the first half that requires maybe use seven players.
I'm not sure, but that's certainly going to tell a tale of two orders.
It's the seventh point on the night jackets continuing across the timeline.
Williams Take a look at the rebound situation in this game.
What do I have slightly is certainly to the left Nice try Savannah Right now they've got a lot offensively bad left side on the move Williams shot with sufficient defensive work.
The board is trying to save it out of bounds.
It'll stay with Savannah and to Georgia as opposed to give me those stats before I talk about it and then put him up on the screen.
Jarell you such a self defense and led Williams out flush and dirty nice defense by outside on the move coming down wide open nearly ground for the easy lay and Savannah playing a flawless almost basketball game right now they lead at 2923 at man handles out front the basketball out front borders stuff the defender behind the arc with three looked at it he missed a three backside lead out of his attempt to put back on auto body bars.
I don't know if Campbell actually hit it for the Blue Jackets, but it comes back here the other way.
And on the last great move by borders is using the aggressiveness of his Savannah defense got him off their feet got a good look can you get it down here?
He handles Ashburn for the Blue Jackets.
Now over to Williams assist.
They play it down to the end of ten.
They're working the weave.
They tie up Williams.
Williams gives it over to Cummins, coming all the way to final seconds.
Williams rejected the shot.
That defensive work for Clark Williams back the other way happened to pick the right side all squares.
The three time he missed the first one.
If it had, he hit it right on the backside.
BROWN 8 seconds remaining first, ten.
WILLIAMS to three.
He missed it.
A terrible rebound comes away to extra at the half.
It's a 2923 lead for the blue jackets of Savannah over Burke and as you indicate her the pace seemingly favoring the blue jackets at this point.
Yeah they've had things go their way.
Certainly anybody's ballgame.
Six points.
With a team like Burke.
Monroe doesn't make much rock trouble standing by.
When one of the coaches, Rob Marcus Jordan.
Tell me about the first half.
Seems like both teams are playing good defense.
Every shot is contested.
Neither team can really get an open look.
West got a game with Brady going in.
Burke was one of the top defensive teams in the state and we'd like to think we ought to so we know it's going to come down to who plays best defense in the first half.
A pretty even Well, it seems like their defense was paying some dividends.
They were getting some fast break opportunities.
Your guys had the presence of mind to get the charger.
They're just plainly missing an easy layup.
Well, access is too tough.
Team is battling out there not enough.
Who plays best defense for the second half is going to come out the winner.
All right.
Good luck in the second half.
That's it from down here on the floor.
Thanks, Rob.
2923 at the break, Savannah over the patriots of our clock.
We'll take a timeout.
Back with more after this.

So a big weekend yet to go here on TV.
Let's go downstairs to courtside and Roger to up with Savannah High's principal James.
Mr. Green, you guys are like the Rodney Dangerfield of the state.
You're 31 and one, but you don't feel like you get all the accolades you deserve.
Tell me about that.
Well, we don't score a lot of points, but we play a lot of defense.
And so we keep the other team from scoring points.
So what we look at and then when the game's over with, we want to have the one point of a two point that's up.
And as long as we do that, we'll be fine.
Tell me about your days of pain College.
You're the only forward out of pain coach to be drafted in the NBA.
Just tell me about your stint there.
The only player in the history of pain to be drafted.
I was drafted in 1972 by the Atlanta Hawks, played ball with a very good score.
You just missed Herb White by a couple of years.
Thank you very much.
Good luck to you guys in the second half of that drive down 16 is pleasant.
Let's go back to Jim knock.
All right.
Thanks, Rob.
All right.
I tell you, it's it's been quite a day for basketball.
You know, single-A, Double-A, triple-A quality in the Bucks.
This is the five eight game.
We'll be wrapping up in about an hour.
And tomorrow we're going to bring you about another 8 to 10 or 12 hours of basketball.
And there's your there's your games for tomorrow.
The classic game, Jefferson and Wesleyan, the class double AA game Union County takes on GHC and those those will be the early games beginning on TV.
Let's go back downstairs now to our trouble.
All right, Jim, our parade of principals continues.
We have Mr. Mark and Jim Mark and from Berk.
Mark, tell me about the running success.
How do you manage to keep David Boyd on the sideline?
It seems like colleges will be coming after him.
Yeah, he's he's an outstanding basketball coach and an exceptionally good classroom teacher as well.
He very dedicated, really cares about the kids.
And I anticipate that the day will come when the call comes from the college.
Just tell me about what coming to a championship game or winning a state title does for the student body.
Does the food in the cafeteria taste better there?
Less discipline problems?
What does it do?
It It gives every kid the school a shot in the arm.
You can't imagine what last year's championship did and the opportunity to have a second opportunity to repeat every kid in the schools walking around with his chest out about a foot.
All right.
Thanks a lot.
Good luck in the second half.
Jim Tanaka, back to you.
All right, Rob, Big day of basketball.
We have highlights from earlier today.
Here we go.
Fasten your seat belts.
It's the single-A championship.
Buford and Taylor County, Akeem Hartman had a big game and an easy layup there.
Edwin McCreery played a big role here.
How often?
Jim Buford hung up most of the afternoon.
Rico Brown from downtown the three pointer Taylor County.
Look at this hands 1 to 10 with an easy layup.
Buford hung in though.
Rico Brown's cousin Phil Brown also dialing long distance three pointer was within ten points where he took over looking to curry one dunk McCreery with another dunk.
The celebration is on Taylor County wins it 5839 The Double-A championship let me tell you that was a ballgame in the East Hall took on Calhoun the yellow jackets he's tall a winner 78 to 67 KC Baxter was the one of the big hitters for Calhoun.
Here's the highlights from the Double-A championship from earlier today.
And as I mentioned, Casey Baxter had a good ballgame, a very good shooter from the outside.
Here's a soft touch with the left hand and he connects on the jumper, Derrick Jones.
Hey, watch this three pointer from the side.
Nothing but the bottom of the nice shot by Jones.
His call was to toss Causey to Causey where underneath and Mark Causey.
What can you say about this young gentleman?
A three pointer from long distance.
That man can shoot the lights out.
Kevin Anderson, a great game for Calhoun.
He's tough down low in the big turnaround jumper.
But in the end, it was he's called on the transition off the break Mark calls his brother Matt Causey connecting on the layup and the celebration is on He's tall they win it 7867 over Calhoun congratulations the head coach sets finding and his entire staff at East Hall.
triple-A highlights.
Here we go.
Westover and Mitchell Baker, the Patriots looking good.
Darrel Williams hits the three pointer.
Mitchell Baker on the off the steal Jarvis Williams feeds Derek Hayward for easy lay up I'll tell you who had a good game though is this guy number 21 correct him.
Check this out.
Yeah you betcha.
And then off the fast break, it's Tisch again.
These guys know how to play to get points on the game, but it was Mitchell Fisher coming back Witten Davis gives the three pointer and the Eagles taking it But here comes the Patriots It's all pieces And Gerald Williams the three of his 24 points a game high Marcus Campbell goes off right there and the Eagles lose to the Patriots 7844 Head coach Willie Boston retires after 37 years on top exactly where he should be.
All right now they want a championship.
Another great game.
Dougherty and Mays, they played this one just moments before this five eight game that was Match Matthew Mitchell after Marcus Long and then Jason Woods for Dougherty Watch.
MITCHELL Now, again he'll stick the three pointer here.
Big game for Alexander Johnson of Derby fans.
This guy can hit from the outside.
Watch his moves on the inside, very dominating throughout this ballgame.
Eric Lester got involved in the action a little bit after the foul there by Western.
But it was Mitchell for Mayes that kept him close.
He's the long jumper for three but Alexander Johnson, you know we showed him outside we showed him inside.
Now watch the big man with this dribbling technique.
You catch it, guard, he wins it big over me.
66, 54 one champions.
Here's your highlights.
Two more on the five eight coming up with Charles Warren and her wife.
We'll take a time out.
You're watching the basketball championships making that funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball championships is provided in part by the following You're watching member supported TV, your PBS station bringing you the best.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV.
We are almost set to begin the third period, 2923 Savannah leading Baqubah in that first half of basketball.
A lot of good highlights coming out of that first half.
But for Savannah in that first half, take a look.
As they start in and out, they go with Tamba from outside the three and he drains it.
That was a testament about how they were going to play the ball game, the first half pacing back the other way with the runner in the range for Bachmann.
They try to keep it even look back the other way down on the inside.
It was Cummings for the dunk for Savannah.
Now back inside again with the reverse.
That's Cummings once again.
And they finish where they started off on draining it for three in that first half and Savannah leading a 2923.
Take a look at some of the stats from this first half here you can see Savannah was 31 field goal attempts, 14 more field goal attempts, rebounds, just about even turnovers really bad.
And that's why Mark Morris not had the number of shots Savannah has had from the turnovers and Savannah, the kind of team Charles is very, very difficult to come back on.
If you get down much more than six points, if you get into double digits, you can just about forget it.
You would think that the points off turnovers would be higher for Savannah, but that's the turnover situation really is a problem for Burke.
More more so than the points coming here.
Savannah Steele on the inbounds play just where we left off of heavy stuff.
He missed us.
This basketball bounce to Tampa though blue jackets even when they do wrong they get a write out of it on the runner they missed it.
Mark O'Mara in back the other way.
It is a head shaker, isn't a therapist.
I'm telling you, he not only missed it, he had ended his career that low, but, you know, it came right out of the beginning.
The second half probably wasn't really loose and not ready to go up like that was so much speed.
His feet just flew out from under him, but he managed to get his hands down to break his fall, thank goodness.
First base.
Cummings providing a little bit of excitement as we start the third period.
Charles Ward and Herb White with the five a play call as borders pass out of the floor with inbound it fiberglass over that extra right corner.
Williams with another shot an airborne backside rebound Larry Brown and the blue jackets picked up by borders green works at right side trying to get it to ten board at the block at the end he has to come out to get it all up top is Crawford handling the basketball Throw it out of bounds.
Nice over play over there.
A burglar gets the turnover and it's important for Burke to really try to get their offense into some kind of rhythm here to start the second half, that first jump shot, just not what they were looking for Crawford earlier a greater for Savannah high out on the floor there caused a turnover they take them out of the ballgame after that.
Heartbreak on the coaching staff Arnold back coming away from the basket fires a three point shot at hard high rebound player by lawyers.
All right side go with the pass left side with the basketball it's Williams inside the paint Kemba comes away with a loose basketball He's not the one and a foul Good for the blue jackets they just don't give up on any ball that's on the floor They stay with it 3143 after the basket patriots back the other way they lost it in traffic comes clear to Williams left side they go to combine again with young Williams we have young again back to green and the basket out of bounds.
We're patient Charles I don't mind me to tell him that he's got to pay me extra if I'm going to be your technical adviser to you on your equipment.
I think I'm okay here.
All right.
All right.
Burt Mars settled for jump shots twice down the floor.
Now, I'd like to see him get into something to get a little better shot at.
And then the back door working on Coleman at the pace down across, just like you indicated, that they got the basket on the inside extra for to always right corner at top three and then traffic nice pass across the floor inside Brown but an easy area and then a very unselfish team I don't care who scored made it like that he had his hands in the paint and tracked down exactly what the basket fouled as well You know that's a good adjustment there by Chapman his recognizing that he can beat his man off the dribble and once it clears and gets inside and draws the defense he's just got play nice substitutions for the blue jackets as we look at the replay, if that's not the inside position, why, it's one of those ones.
If you're going to come over the back and foul and don't give him the basketball for the last place on the floor in the blue jackets for sure in the back fourth down a little bit to the floor with a pass by Sam Brown around the green in the paint a lot of extra play for the Pacers point to the right corner to the glass good recovery by Bradley that's Clark Williamson with a touchdown for the Patriots an eight point lead is 4 to 3 and a steal now Pacers coming back the other way.
It's in time for the three teams we're going in with him one side for the glass he missed Brock Williams on the miss basketball belongs to the blue jackets Well you heard Tim Jordan at halftime for it went in said whoever plays the best defense this half is going to win Dirk Morris really turned up the heat defensively now with the full court pressure back Court blue Jackets whistle in the back door at a timeout call by Coach Jordan and the Blue Jackets recognizing that they were having some problems with that paper.
Press Well, they had a three on twos a good timeout because Savannah was about to have a lay up there.
Unfortunately, this is an example for us again, it's not pillow scrambles all day long.
No one more in.
But we can tell you what he's saying in the second sense.
No secret formula there.
Just get after it.
Check the heck out of him and scramble.
Just get after the ball.
And that's what they've done.
And that's the way how you win ballgames with two evenly matched teams, you're just going to have to outhustled the other team, But try to test out hustle the Savannah crew and paraphrase.
Praise goes, Boy, that may leave it all on the floor.
Blue Jackets.
As we take a look at possible percentages in this quarter, we will fire for Savannah 50% 61 amazing convert Morris.
Now they're getting the same amount of field goals anyhow that Savannah was before.
There was quite a discrepancy because of the turnovers.
Brown converted on the lay in for the Blue Jackets.
The lead is 5 to 10.
He missed it right on clear backside by young.
So the Blue Jackets seemingly have staved off, at least temporarily, a comeback by the Patriots.
Auerbach La Grange down at the block, Young returning on Extra.
He missed on the shot, but a whistle down low.
It's just going to have some sore ribs in the morning from that one Got caught the elbow right in the rib cage and stayed with it.
Like that would be nice for a personal black Eric Young.
Eric Young, six foot seven, senior with four.
And I may pose some problems with Coach Georges and the Blue jacket.
It's going to hurt him on the boards Waters through the time line right side on the penetration stops and from there the patriots however like shots there and the quick penetration pull up.
It's a three point blue jacket lead out pressure by the Patriots in the backcourt and going into the fourth cross trouble for the glass Nicely done but he's shot it hard I guess so that's just a little border crossing of our borders down in the corner and you back to borders on the glass this time borders the senior guard he's taking it on himself to lift his team and get him started.
And he's been the difference so far in the second half.
Charles, They go with four and one junior in the starting rotation.
Take a look at Borders, one of the seniors trying to lift him on his own shoulders inside Coach Boyd over there, he's got all kinds of hand signals for his defensive players.
About 14.
I don't know which one was the right thing.
I'm trying to decode it, but I haven't broken it yet 46 points and four rebounds on the night of the seventh there from the Ron Jackson into the lineup for the Blue Jackets.
Take a look at the signals from Coach Boyd.
L.A. wants to see what kind of defense they use.
Florida's got them both on the line.
It meant full court pressure, 1311.
They got a steal in the backdoor spot.
Williams in the rally got in the paint with get the steal in the basket Charles Williams with the basket Patriots lead it by one Brown back the other way for the blue jackets kicks it out for the three pointer Jackson gets the follow to center Jesus down with a rebound the left hand away and nicely done by Sean Jackson daughters in the back blocks for Barcelona.
He's starting to quicken just a bit here.
Gorgeous kicks it down low He got it and starting to solve that pressure now Jackson into the four pass left side of Cummings up top to Williams now Williams in the paint on Jefferson ten Williams drops it and left him uncontested Savannah returned the favor Let's hang it up offensively a little bit This is what you want to see in the final ballgame.
Five eight championship going back and forth on the attack team.
Nelson also trying to get some final ball games on the free throw line to work on the right side he kicks it Arnold Almost a three rebound by green blue jacket Just a quick step across the timeline Williams baseline WHISTLE Nelson commits the final 7500 or so rabid basketball fans gathered in here to see it.
I'm telling you, when they emptied out the building after those first three games, people didn't want to leave this game.
Interesting.
You can listen and watch all of the state playoff games on the Internet.
Simply go to WDW Dot dot org and follow the links.
All the games will be available for the entire month.
That's ww w dot dot org.
Live action at the baseline Patriots get another basket a steal on the inbound play by Williams Williams to the glass the way the shot off foul is called by Jackson now Savannah has got to regroup first was really I think they scored about their last five possessions and they stole the ball twice now in the last five possessions there will be Clark Williams to inbound as they say.
This all occurred before the shot.
So Bill Nelson on the mound, of course, Brooklyn elite, it maybe just momentarily tapped out of bounds by Temple They had seven lead changes in this ball game so indications right Nelson and bounds at the borders on the move Williams for the glass an offensive foul on New Orleans first half has been a lot more efficient than they've had their guards handling the ball on the defensive end passing off gotten a little too aggressive, going to the hoop.
Nice job.
They're going to charge Miami and to Kemba and Bond two to charge.
So the Blue Jackets will remain at nine remaining in the third period, trailing by one.
Charles, We couldn't have got another fan in here with the shoehorn and the double and triple and single-A games.
I mean, it was completely packed standing there last all those ball games and the fans.
It was Pat Williams off the floor on Nelson, the left side spinning to the right in the paint runner just a cinnamon touchdown Williams players for Brooklyn now under a minute and he's in the third stolen in the country by the blue jackets They swarm and they got it You can't take it for granted just when you're bringing the ball up the floor because they're going to come from behind and knock it away.
WILLIAMS Right side with the pass to coming up top Kemba Now back to Harry Williams on the left side in the paint stops at the line and he missed it at the center put back by Cummings off the mark rebound cleared by Clark Williams double teamed He takes the time out Williams with a couple of nice moves in the lane couldn't get either one of them to go down and we got us the ballgame from 30 4039 with 23 seconds remaining in the third period.
Never any doubt about that.
But boy, they stepped up the intensity in this third period and it's showing.
Well, Bert Morris just found out that it's going to be a low scoring game.
There's accepted that.
Yes, they're going to come out and play the same kind of defense that was serving the crowd here in the second flexing, making some great plays down the finish with all these senior players out here.
It's going to be a great last quarter, Coach Jordan said that his blue jackets passed a gut check and the semifinal ball game seems like it's shaping up the same way here.
We'll be a gut check as the Patriots working toward the fourth quarter right side back up front and left side.
Nelson on the move on tomorrow I got the paper on the border I gotta hurry for this double teamed up play.
I try to get it off it was not at all sharp and short at the end of three it's 4039 the patriots of our more over the blue jackets of Savannah final frame coming up after this break.
Funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls basketball championships is provided in part by the following.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV, which means we've got these Final Four, the five eight championship, Charles Warren and Herb White with the players.
All herb intensity certainly has picked up in that third quarter.
We'll see if it continues in the fourth.
Yeah, well, it's not that many of the team is going to let up here.
Charles.
It's just going to come down to who's got the guts to.
Like you said, we're going to do a little gut check right here on the announcers and see what happens.
A lot of it down there.
I'll tell you that as we get set for the fourth big ball game, the winner gets crowned five eight champion.
It's a 4039 lead for the Patriots of Baqubah.
You caught me off guard with that.
I didn't have time to suck it in.
Well, yes, This is going to be a great fourth quarter here.
Everybody stay with us, because these are two veteran teams playing for the first five five championship in the state of Georgia history.
So they're going to lay it on the line.
Mark Marwan, the Quartet championship last year, trying to repeat in the largest classification in the state of Georgia this year, two, five, eight.
Amazing blue jackets.
You see this work, Mark in the 1998 48 final.
So teams with a lot of common history.
History tonight in the quarter one winner in the five division finals quarter underway as Williams handles off some traps off.
But that's not starting to hurt our borders now it's taken back by Green Lane inside the paint and got it on their way, switched it right in mid air herb and he got the lay off and all young players to emulate be able to use both of those hands.
Our sideline reporter Rob Segal talk to me at the break sing that for the Blue Jackets.
We're going to take any jump shots in this latter part of the ballgame.
They just wanted to keep it and get it down low.
They did it on the first trip down the floor.
Let's see what they do this time.
Down.
Williams side, three Williams again, right side of the block leading inside the paint.
Come to download around the block this offensive work going on at the junior high.
So that's the story Brock Williams crossed the line Tamba bar to the glass whistle on the play.
Well Coach Jordan thought there was a lot of contact on the other end when Brown tried to go up and didn't get the call.
And then the contact on the other end gets the call.
But Charles, this kind of game so well played low scoring every possession feels like it's going to be huge from here on out.
And was the blue jacket he was guilty of the foul dropping Williams to the line soft touch on the free throw it converts converts Williams 40 seconds got him both 40 to 41.
Seesaw battle favors Burke more at the moment and by I'll crossed over to Williams and the left side you see on the penetration by Williams they got tapping on the shoulder got hit during the shot heard before the shots although unfounded.
An interesting stat the Blue Jackets haven't shot a free throw since the first quarter.
They don't do it on that foul play inbound they tried to get it to Cummings Arnold commits to foul.
Well the 3434 40 blue jackets inbound it out front right side all the way through after the long converse A little bit of a breakdown there on the defense.
You don't see very often the matter of these things touch the corner down the lane.
Exactly.
And at the back the other way, borders left corner inside the paint whistle on the play basketball back to the Blue Jackets.
Well, with this one point lead, we're going to have a lot of lead changes cover up the ten down and that one point difference with both teams playing well here come the blue Jackets right corner to Brown Corners.
And with the double team now down in the corner, Williams hands across the floor on the move inside the paint Cummings whistle on the play.
Deep inside got a technical on Prince Jordan for the assistant I couldn't tell he called it on He pointed at the bench and take a look at Coach Jordan.
He's one way Lewis I may not have been him may have been some of the bench coaches here and looks like it went against one of the assistants.
That's a big play in such a tight ball game.
Oh, shoot.
Two free throws in possession of the ball back to Clarke Williams embarks on the first You know Charles I guess the coaches and players win the game.
It just wouldn't be a bad game for an overtime.
I'm not saying yeah, then quite a ballgame.
Williams got them both so marks with the one point edge.
Guess we might want to check with our producers to see what they to say about it since they've been here all day.
We looked like we had another technical call here.
The indication was that it was a technical against Coach Georgia.
Well, they were both up for testing.
It's all that could say.
I think it was a couple of tough calls in the lane.
Got more action coming your way tomorrow from the make him center class is Jefferson's lady Dragons versus Wesleyan Trojans double play action, Union County, Lady Panthers versus Lady A Spartans in Atlanta.
Christian, as you indicate, Gainesville, Lady Elephants versus the Northeast later sets.
And then the quarter ballgame.
It's central Gwinnett Black Knights versus north of Atlanta Warriors.
And then finally in the five, it's Lassiter, the Trojans versus the Eagles column Steal.
I tell you, Charles, I watched a lot of love the Girls games the other day, and it's not going to be many years down the road.
Some of those girls kind of back.
Monica Poker I saw the other night can handle the ball as well as anybody I've seen.
And take it to the basket just thought basketball will belong to the Patriots for the technical.
They'll get it this ball on the right side passing now to Arnold with a jump shot a hard eight on backside Williams That would have been the biggest lead in quite a while.
They made that one.
WILLIAMS Right side on the move at the baseline.
That's a jumper that's short by Green gets his own rebound though, and the blue jackets keep it there and on the floor.
Williams at the top of the key to Tamba right side Tamba at the baseline jumper shot at Mr. Backside $3 extra and the Patriots they can take it up for three with a basket here at the left side borders on the weave at the right side catch and that's Williams with the cover of time That's the flash Jackson with the put back he missed and volunteers for the blue jackets Arnold might like to have that one back again and come down and go up strong with it.
He tried to put it up on the fly.
WILLIAMS Right out town about all the way through him for the glass, all the way down where they give him the basket.
That's like out on standby.
We'll see if they count oh, they're going to wait it off or look like he got rid of it before he makes contact on the replay.
We'll take a look and see if in fact, it is on the penetration.
Well, wrong again.
First, it's not here tonight.
It was very, very, very close.
Mark Lawrence gets the basketball back.
Waters looks to the right side pat and inside it.
But is when he gets the lay and for the Patriots their lead is three now three up front west with the pass to young on the move converts by the Patriots whistle It'll be Arnold with the foul Sean raising his hands saying it was me running back in after sitting out with the four fouls a good job there by man and they absolutely felt like they had to have some kind of a score basket.
They made a nice move to the basket strong and drew the foul.
Eric Young I was just on the floor Schierholz back out for the Blue Jackets.
You just feel like it's a team gets up five or six in this game.
It's going to be tough.
Wow, look at that.
Blue Jackets.
I think you see the sweep for the second and third quarter.
He throws in a ballgame like this.
You know, they're going to be important.
Young.
It's one of two across the timeline borders from Whiteside for the Patriots down at the block now they give it to Williams he listed on the and one critical miss there by Williams He knows it as well Oh that's a tough call it looked like both players had their hands on the ball That's a tough call but both players going for the rebound.
That was great ball movement by Mark Ma there.
But let's see this rebound.
See what happens.
Nice wraparound pass by Nikola Williams left it on the cylinder may have been slightly off.
I was right on that one, Charles.
Thank you.
I was right away.
They went on of three that was fouled by percentage as Williams goes to the line Clark Williams to see the next on the first Williams has not decided in terms of a college but we know he will be going somewhere over level his performance of the night 17 points five rebounds six of eight from the line seven his answer only 45 remaining Williams cross dribble spins left side runner to the glass off balance and he missed Williams clears for the Patriots They tied up at the blocks so now they go to they are only going to give it to like we've just been laying on the line and that's a big play on offense Savannah didn't score there and Birchard come down and score it again.
A six point lead in this game is huge, mopping it up here at the center blocks.
And that's not a thing in this building that gets by our cameras.
We green left of the cylinder now to inbound it how funny comes to Cummings outside at the block force Young back out front Mount and Williams to three where was that fake was Darren de Charles he squared and fired and dropped it Big basket is back and comes back the other way.
He's fouled out.
The officials are starting to clamp down a little bit now calling some fouls and maybe they didn't call earlier on in a close tight ball game at the end them to the line.
Take a look at the field goal situation He here a banner 20 of 25 or more 16 of 28 and look how the change takes place.
It evens out right there from the free throw line three or four for Savannah, but not in 21 times.
Make it 22 now.
18 of 21.
Now 19 of 22.
As Payton converts on the first, you talk about different aspects of the ball game all bringing it to an equal living in the sun those steps in and of course George is going to see it that way.
Well that's after the ball game.
Patman them both from the line three will work it into the fourth quarter for the Blue Jackets, one that you almost hate to see him on the spin green nicely done on the third back to back huge baskets by Savannah and blue jackets and now they got to have a stop for his right side for the Patriots now to Arnold's left block Williams two extra leaning back and didn't want to foul in there falling away He's going to have a tough shot Charles so let's go ahead Yep they feel him out an extra mile otherwise as the looker they're the selector for the patriots up to the line surprised to see Savannah in his own in the third being one point down if they could just hold the ball and bring him out of it.
That much converts on the first he throws.
Why has it helped the Pacers?
He got them both and they got another big one back the other way.
Almost taken away by the Patriots.
The Blue Jackets control Williams out front, approaching the 230 mark remaining Williams with the jumper hesitation in the air rallied it almost got it there There's the back to back the work inside by Eric by the team unbelievable Hangtime by Williams almost got that to go down and rattled and popped out Young converted Here comes Clark Williams at the baseline tapped out from behind by Mary Brown so much of the summer talk to them about it.
Coach is trying to get him back on the floor but as Brown departs, well, we felt like we might have saved the best thing for the last two days, Charles.
And it's certainly been that way.
Yes, it has.
Getting your money's worth in this quarters.
Trapped in the corner, they forced a time out to 12 remains in the ballgame there.
You know, the senior borders wasn't going to take any chances and they doubled.
He took it immediately.
We don't have anybody in the huddles on this timeout.
So I guess we get to talk on the bench and see if Savannah comes back out in that zone there in the 212 just a moment ago.
And even being down, I'm surprised that Burkhart didn't make them come out and play, given the tempo, this ballgame with only 312 left and a one point separation and he still first not was favored in this kind of situation.
I've been wrong so many times.
Naturally, you're not going to get me on that one, I guarantee you.
I'll just say, Well, he's going to go out of here.
And both of them certainly deserve to win this ballgame right now.
I'm not saying that what you have Jordan and troops set to come back to battle.
I will say I bet Savannah comes out man to man here, 31 and one on the regular season for the Blue Jackets Patriots.
That's 28 and four on the campaign.
You take a look at the timeouts remaining the 2 minutes and 12 seconds Savannah with three four or more with one full and 130.
Well they'll play zone off the inbounds excuse me most teams Williams and bounds is to parking and traffic after Arnold he thought three now had six runners from this team.
He shot it hard that's a shot there by Arnold but junior questionable shot cross blue jackets with a chance to take the lead here Williams right side now on the move.
It's inside the paint.
He got it before he was out.
Well, Mark Williams fouled his arm with his job, but nonetheless, it was a five time.
Williams, the junior on, the move.
Take a look at it inside the paint no question about the foul he continued.
Got it to fall and that's a big play by the junior coming in for the three point effort missed on the free throw clock.
Williams clears the basketball savannah from pressing after the bases line for their pressing.
Even now, some scorers across the timeline with a now guarded by green off fire on the way to Arnold on the right side on the move cross the limitation sweeps it in reverse marker gorgeous on that floater down the lane made up for the previous trip down the floor with the basket steal in the sun caught by the Patriots That's big lead it by one They're going to have to play really tough defense and if they don't get a steal in a few seconds, they're going to have to go for the foul.
13 lead changes in the ball game right now in the league favors the Patriots quarters out front.
The approach the minute mark left in the contest Payton on the move now inside the paint back out the boards I go to about 45 seconds I don't have to steal by then Charles I don't have to go after Senator Arnold the attacking over the Williams of order That's right corner patriots kick it back out got the foul down down One senior team is handling this situation well Mark Morris now they commit the foul on the JR way and on it if they had to choose somebody perhaps Arnold is the best the rest of the players senior football player we'll see if this situation rattles the junior.
Well they decided to let the clock run down.
They were going for the steal and he can play it either way.
Still plenty of time in the ballgame, even if he makes both of these.
He ran it down the 30 before they come in at the five this time the first he has 18 in the season nine more than the one shot he's got coming here and the five he this time don't cleared by Brown to see if they take a time out here play across the time line on Payton WHISTLE they're going to take the time out Coach Jordan was trying to get it but Green was edgy.
He was going to go ahead and go for shows.
The drive of this blue jacket team, just their head set about what they want to do.
No Question They were trying to go toward the basket.
Don't miss Georgia's only statewide high school sports and academic programs from sports.
Plus Saturday mornings at a m right here on TV.
Here's the host of that show.
Have some guy that's loitering around in the building.
All right.
What do you do here, Charles?
Up?
Maybe they'll tell us.
Let's see if we can get inside the magic number.
I saw Uncle Eric at.
Have enough to get back on the air here.
When they got strong to the best shots.
He did.
He's got.
But you got to be serious.
He says he's got to get out of New York.
Gary.
Hey, let's talk about what's on that note.
First off, he's inside and then they don't have to play out like they were going to get Eric Young inside.
He's going to kick it back out and they are going to take it hard to the hoop leave.
I get it.
And Harry Williams hands the Miss by Arnold probably changed the situation for the Blue Jackets in terms of what they want to do on this offensive set.
Well, they're going inside to hopefully draw the foul and not take it hard to the basket.
If you don't get the basket, maybe get two free throws.
There we go.
Is green in bounds out front with pass to Williams ASU.
It's trying to double teaming Williams left side he kicks it on the move now at the glass shot by Tony some he's lost it out of bounds It'll go to the Pacers of Arkansas they went down low to Cummings in the left corner He got a lot of traffic down here trying to get the shot.
A good defensive work by Mark more timeout taken by the blue jackets quick foul.
Oh no doubt about it.
Now that's all you can do as far Savannah goes.
But Ma wants to get the ball in the hands of the free throw shooters and luckily they've got some dribbling and won their semifinal ballgame by virtue of the good work they did from the free throw line.
They want it in overtime against Academy and it's come down to the same thing here.
Oh, the other way.
Let's take a look at the time out situation with Jackie Dunbar, with one of the very best athlete active, all belonging to the National Guard for kicks as well.
But it is difficult to repeat as back to back champions with the Patriots.
It just 10 seconds remaining an opportunity to do that.
Well, you want a foul you can almost even foul before he gets the ball in bounds.
It just got to make it quick because they run any time off the clock.
It's going to be almost impossible for Savannah.
Arnold will inbound it.
It's sending a man down the floor.
Gordon handles catch up the corners and the fouls committed by Mary Brown.
So Borders will go to the line.
Now he's victorious.
Good free throw shooter senior.
I expect him to hit both of these Savannah still going to have a track and an 8 seconds plenty of time to get the ball up and get a shot.
And you know the patriots I know they make contested I'm going to get some close to the three classic corner gets on the first but you don't want to do is make sure you don't foul on the three point attempts so they senior Adams missed a second rebound came away to green how to look at it here look for green behind the arc now stolen almost thought about that and green in the face in the box this time and the winner here is three five 5553.
They are here for a chance in the state of Georgia.
Unbelievable finish draws.
I thought that last corner in the lane was going just fell off the rim and can you get the tip up and time and unbelievable for burn mark back to back championships and great great effort by the Savannah blue jackets certainly couldn't ask for a better five eight final but the final tally goes to the Patriots the if they win it over the blue jackets of Savannah they repeat this time as five eight champs.
Last year's record eight champs, an exhausted bunch from Park Ma boy they hung in there with so many lead changes and they finally got the tempo the way that they wanted it.
And David Boyd and his Patriots have done only what one and only one other team has done.
As I wrap trouble is standing by it.
SIDELINE Well, Coach, it wasn't easy, but you got your second straight and a little bit of history.
Also the first state champion in five eight.
Well, we appreciate that.
We're also the first back to back largest classification state champions since 1979.
So we're real proud of that, proud of this group.
They fall back.
All year long we've been down and we've come back and it's a tribute to those kids coaches.
Talk about the fact your philosophy on defense was working fine in the first half.
You're getting the turnovers that you just couldn't convert the baskets and you were going nuts with the charging calls.
With the second half, it finally came into play.
Well, we play the pressure defense hoping to turn the ball over, but we more converting in the first half.
We did a little better job in the second half.
It was a great game, Coach.
I noticed, kind of went over there to the Savannah people and flashed to two fingers.
Well, they tried to intimidate us like 98.
We're going to let it happen this time.
I could again, Congratulations, Coach.
Maybe a three peat next year.
Who knows?
Let's go to Jim Tanaka.
