Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipLive from the arena at Gwinnett Center, it's the five A boys state title game.
It'll be Norcross versus Milton.
Our final game here in Duluth tonight.
But game four of 11 of GPB is live and exclusive coverage and high definition of the state basketball championship to welcome you to championship weekend here on GPB.
I'm Gil Tyree.
What a day we've had for you.
We got more tomorrow going down to Macon, but it's been day to night as we follow the bouncing ball to give you the best of high school basketball coverage here in the great state of Georgia.
And for the call of tonight's game between Norcross and Milton.
Let's go courtside now to Dave Gardner and Herb.
Gentlemen, it is all yours.
All right.
Thank you, Gil.
Looking forward to a great ball game here tonight.
The final game on this Friday night.
Herb, It's a good one.
It is Milton And it's Norcross for the five state championship.
Yeah, it is.
I saw David Boyd a few minutes ago before the game, and I walked up to him five and got up to him.
He said, It's going to be a great one, Herb.
I said, What's the key for you guys, Dave?
He said, Play our game.
There you go.
There you go.
Well, of course.
Let's talk a little bit about Norcross.
The Blue Devils, of course, has had an excellent season.
Got off to a little bit of a slow start this year, but Chris Bolden has certainly been the man on that team.
Well, Coach McMillan played an unbelievable schedule and it's paid off in the long run.
But yeah, Chris Bolden is an all around guy out there at 15 points a game, couple of assists a game.
He gets about four rebounds and he he shoots a good percentage from the free throw line she's 35% from three point distance so he's he's the engine that makes it go.
They're going to look at the starting five for Norcross again Herbert the junior and Nickerson the guards there, Josiah Moore, the senior guard, Chris Bolden, who we talked about, and Alonzo Nelson Obada is certainly a guy to watch as well.
Well, earlier, our very own Jon Nelson caught up with Jesse McMillan, the head coach of Norcross.
Coach, talk about what it's like out here playing for another state title tonight.
It's very exciting.
We were very proud of our girls team and it's a it's a very good time to be in Norcross blue level.
I talk about this special group of players that you've got out of here going up against the tough Melton squad.
We've been really impressed with their maturity and growth over the course of the season and very proud to be their coach for sure.
There you have it, of course.
Norcross Try to make it two for two tonight.
Their girls have already won the state title.
All right.
Let's talk about Milton.
Of course, the Eagles have been number one most of the season.
Certainly a standout team with all kinds of recruits.
And Julian Royle is one guy that stands out.
Yeah, it's tough to pick somebody as a key for Milton Bajillion Oil.
If you remember a guy you old timers named Bob Butter being Love about a68 forward smooth can really glide into that lane has a real sweet jumper can take it all the way to the hoop gets 15 points and seven rebounds a game and he'll block a shot there you look at the starting five for Milton Shannon Scott again Jordan Lloyd, the Guards, Nulty, Royall and Parker.
The forwards on this Milton Eagles roster coach also catching up with our very own Jon Nelson David Boyd the head coach of Milt here he is.
Coach go ahead and talk about how special this night is playing for another state championship.
Well, it really is special.
When this group were sophomores, we played against a great wheeler team and they beat us here.
We finished runner up and then last year we were determined to win the whole thing.
And now here we are back for a third time and we hope we play our best.
Coach Boyd, of course, five state championships with four different schools there, of course, took Campbell in 82, Tucker in 96, Burt Mark back to back in 2000, 2001 and of course, Milton last year.
Keys to the game.
Herb, what is Norcross going to have to do tonight to beat this big machine that's known as Milton?
Well, you got to play great defense.
They just got such a great team and you got to play great defense on the boards and against a team like Milton, you got to take high percentage shots and take care of the ball because every time you take a bad shot or have a turnover, they're going to convert it into points, perhaps little.
Of course, the second meeting between the two this year, of course, they met earlier in the season back in November, and it was built winning 72, 66 with a very competitive ballgame right there against the Norcross Blue Devils.
And again, Norcross coming out here tonight with Title hopes 23 and nine.
Overall, they were five and eight at 1.7 and nine at one point in the season, but reported on with 16 straight wins and they are back here in the title game after two disappointing quarterfinal losses the last two years for a score cross.
Looking forward to it.
And talking about the Milton Eagles number one team 29 and two coming in here tonight.
What is build going to have to do to repeat the state champs?
Well, no crosses maybe a little quicker than Milton.
So they got to have some defensive help on their whole team, maybe play a little zone.
Coach Boyd's been known to change up his defense from time to time.
They've got the advantage of size.
Use that in the paint and I was going to say, stay out of foul trouble.
But they got in foul trouble in the semifinals, got a couple cans in off the bench.
Their starters didn't score that many points and they were able to capitalize.
So bottom line is, both these teams are going to try to impose their will on the other one.
And we got like 12 or 13 Division one players.
I think on both these teams, a lot of highly touted recruits on both of these teams here tonight going to be in action right here on GPB.
Of course, Milton defeating Tip County last night in the semifinals, 7553 and Norcross, a winner over Valdosta, 7261.
BALDWIN The guy we focused on 26 points in that ballgame.
Well, the stage is set.
We are ready to rock and roll.
It's Milton Norcross in the five eight title game coming up.
Stay with us.

Back here live at the arena at Gwinnett Center, the GHC State Championship Boys Class Five eights, Norcross and Milton.
Get ready to tip here tonight.
The weekend started with six programs with a chance to sweep both boys and girls championships.
Only three remain.
Norcross hoping to do the honors here tonight.
Of course, their girls have already won.
Laney, Fayette County, Columbia were the other three, but either one of their boys or girls teams was eliminated for Fayette County.
I actually won the girls title earlier this evening, but Norcross trying to complete the sweep here tonight, be the first team this weekend to do it and are tipping at center court and we are underway here in this five eight title game.
In the final game of this championship Friday night, we're going to look at your officials, Bill McNair, Charles Dance and Jean Sherry and you three and Stripes working this five day championship game here tonight.
Norcross opens the game with the basketball.
We have a quick whistle.
A great crowd out here tonight.
Dave, how many of those people have turned out, just as you would expect with the Atlanta area schools, with the great programs they have.
But it's it's as big a crowd as I've seen here in the Gwinnett Arena for a finals championship game.
It's wonderful to see.
Well, absolutely.
Norcross, of course, left over from the girls game, so they didn't have to move too far, that's for sure.
Meanwhile, Milton, of course, in the red, filling up the home side here tonight, should be a good ball game right here.
As you mention, Herb, a lot of college prospects on the floor, a lot of signees these guys have already committed, even some guys as juniors that have already made their college decisions.
No public couple of guys off the bench here tonight as well.
It just shows you how deep these programs are when you have guys coming off the bench that are also signing day one.
Yeah, and Norcross opens man to man from a match up in the great town.
Nice job the steal kind of taking away.
Did Parker traveling on the other end there from Derek Berger the sixth on junior you know with Jesse McMillan to step in and follow a guy like Eddie Martin in Norcross, who is a legend in coaching and rightfully so, but not to miss a beat and keep going with this program.
And then you look at David Boyd, and I'll tell you, for Guy to go to those many different programs and do what he's done and has the success is just unbelievable.
So two really great coaches here and you'll see it in these teams is their fundamentally sound.
Three point shot off the mark on the other end.
Here's Norcross.
From the corner there is three for Alonzo Nelson O'Gara, who has his first trey of the night eight points average on the season for Nelson Andorra and he's already got the first three and the big guy can step out and knock him down.
NELSON To go to signing with Richmond go become a Spyder following his high school career.
It looks like that shot going to be short out of the hands of Shannon Scott, the six three seniors for both these teams playing last night.
You know, we're talking earlier in the night before a game about fresh legs and who had the freshest legs late in the game.
But especially with these two teams having played last night, certainly could become a factor late in the game of this.
One is possible, but these teams are well conditioned.
You know, it's maybe a little early jitters, but that will wear off and they'll be fine.
I played against Shannon's dad many, many years ago.
Quite a ballplayer.
Charlie Scott, Try to get the alley oop pass there.
Nice job by Norcross there.
Josiah Moore throwing it off of one of the Milton players out of bounds.
So the Blue Devils will have the possession and as we said, Milton with a pretty deep bench in Norcross, can go seven or eight too.
So they can bring some guys off the bench to help out three straight state championships, which, of course Miller Grove achieved here tonight before a boys game.
But Norcross did it No.
607 and eight.
No little floater right there would not go for Jordan Lloyd.
And now down on the other end, Chris Bolden lays it up and draws the foul.
Yeah, right into our cameraman over there Mr. Peacock with a lap full of Julian Royals that baseline still looking like Chris Bowen had dunk on his mind decided to try to bank it when he saw royal coming in Got the foul that's the way to go strong that's why they pay the big bucks down there on the baseline to take those kind of shots.
But I knew somebody was getting the big bucks for doing that stuff.
Could he get right here and then watch that.
man.
Boy, tumbling right into the camera.
I get a dollar for every dunk.
That's going to be a slam dunk tonight.
You probably walk away pretty well together.
I was going to say, we'll have to see what kind of showtime we put together here.
Bolden Two of two on the line that trip and Norcross After the five start Harris got off the dribble pull up and gets the roll Shannon Scott with the friendly rim the six three seniors in the book and Milton's on the board will also pick it up man to man pick up right at the half court strike.
I'm talking about Miller Grove earlier two losses for Milton this year, one to Miller Grove, the other to Saint Patrick's out of New Jersey out of state lost there.
Milton number one entering the state playoffs this year.
The region champs out of region six more across the region champs out of region seven so to reach the champions going toe to toe here it's about tough shot wouldn't go for a royal rebound Norcross won an out on that trip I hope we got a lot of folks tuned in because it's just high school basketball in Georgia.
It just doesn't get any better when you look at the talent on those two teams and the quality of the coaching as well.
Once they have the talent, it's another to do something with it.
no.
Both teams, of course, the power couple role in and out here already in the first half of this first period.
Norcross with the three point leader Scott on the drive back iron wouldn't go rebound more Yeah lightning quick crossover had the shot to knock it down the crocodile Scott the three 2 seconds you're talking about Jimmy McMillan his third season with a star crossed in each of his first two seasons.
They were 27 and three but fell in the quarter quarterfinals.
We'll have more on that on the other side of the break.
Step aside or this time out, 358 to play opening period, five to Norcross.
We're back in a moment.
Come on.

A lot of folks, of course, taking part in the chants over the course of the week in there and see what people are saying.
A lot of smack talk on there from the schools.
It's pretty funny.
I love listening to what the kids had to say.
I read what they had to say.
Norcross With the inbound after the TV time out there, you know, we're talking about Coach McMillan, 27 and three of the last two seasons, but a couple of really disappointing quarterfinal losses the last two years.
Of course, they fell to last year in the quarterfinals.
Milton would go on to win the state championship, a very close ballgame.
And then, of course, two years ago against Wheeler.
Wheeler would go on to win the state championship as well.
But here is Norcross finally getting over that West Georgia college jinx, if you will, and making it here to the title game tonight against the defending champion belt, the Eagles, Alonzo Nelson, a dodo.
They got some great names on this cross team.
Bob Howard, his favorite e Victor Nickerson.
Here you go, wearing number five here tonight.
Nice job by go to their picking that offensive rebound up nice stroke from the free throw line and Nelson a dodo making the first second one on the way he's already got four points for the Blue Devils first six points make it five of their first seven five points for Alonzo the six eight senior and Norcross is out to a72 advantage.
A little bit of a slow start right here by Milton.
But as you and I were talking during the breaks pretty evenly matched.
Yeah they're getting their shots.
They just haven't knocked them down yet.
Shaquille Johnson in the lineup right here number 20 once the first off the bench for Milton a64 junior.
They're going to look at coach David Boyd his fourth season 27 years as a head coach, a 13 and one playoff record.
A guy that knows how to win at this level, that's for sure.
Well, you know, your talent, your talent deep.
When you bring a guy off the bench that's already committed to Auburn.
Yeah.
And that's his school.
And he's your sixth man and you call that one block right there by Evan Nulty.
Here's a good look, Junior at six foot eight, averaging 14 points a ballgame.
Second chance opportunity one go for Norcross, and now Scott's back on the other end, kicks it out from the corner.
Three point shot is there for Nulty.
And on cue, he has to be talking about him there.
He knocks down the three.
Well, I was just about to say Norcross is doing a great job of getting back defensively and they are, but they didn't quite get out on the wing or the baseline quick enough to get Milton.
That's one of his favorite shots.
Here Is Bolden off the dribble again.
Bolden committed to the University of Miami WHISTLE and if Chad Johnson gets around that rack with one stepper so be ready and start about highlights.
Hill This guy's six four and he throws it down with 30.
He's had several dunks throughout this postseason, and he says that this guy's going to have to be careful because he cannot.
I think he's got two fouls and he's really important.
For Milton.
That three point shot would not go for Milton.
We're talking about Johnson at 21 last night in that went over to the semifinals for Milton and he goes out of Alpharetta, North Fulton County, Norcross out of Gwinnett County.
great.
Look inside.
Johnson, though, rejected and a great defensive play on one end of the floor by nobody and then run by Johnson.
Flip that one over to Jason Carroll and cruising six five Sophomore got towards the hoop Throw that pass What a right out of bounds So nice offensive basketball with two straight really solid fundamental defensive play with the block and the steal by no the on the other end John Parker 23 was out there traveling as he call here on Scott on a turnover for seven five early on here as we go under 2 minutes in the opening quarter Norcross averaging 63.3 points offensively throughout the year allowing 55.2.
Meanwhile Milton 78 points offensively giving up just under 50% off the drive there.
Derrick Thurber with his first two and that was a good looking drive there little cross is not really a great shooting team but man, they can really rebound and that's the strength of their team with a pull up jumper.
Long range right there by Parker.
His way off the Mark Nelson the dodo with it gets off to Moore and now here's Bolden going to work pull up jumper that one too strong and back to the Eagles it goes but I get the feeling the officials are going to call this going a little tighter than we had in the four eight game and started off early making some calls.
And I like that.
Let's keep things under control.
They'll let them play.
But we've got this many great athletes call some fouls If somebody gets fouled, boy, good looking drive right there by Scott He's got that first knee he does named a McDonald's all-American this year Looks like he's headed to Ohio State Sanford Scott of course with a great first step great penetration no doubt by number five.
But it looks like he's going to pick up another foul.
And I believe it might be three against Scott.
Yeah, well, they're going to yeah, that's just going to have to be careful because he takes it to the hole a lot too.
And Norcross is smart.
They'll be looking for him, see if they can draw a charge on one of those drives to the bucket and got him for the reach around holding his man on the offensive move, as you see that too often.
Explosive early.
He didn't see it at all.
So Michael Jordan made it possible.
you watch the NCAA tournament coming up soon and then you watch the teams and it just seems like everybody that's good has got somebody from Georgia on their club.
And you can tell from what we have out here tonight, that's going to be the case for in a couple of years as well.
Now, I was going to say, I don't think that's going away any time soon with the talent, especially that we have here in this five, eight game.
And we've got a lot more talent on display over the course of the week.
Here's a three point shot that one would not go for Jordan Lloyd and time winding down here in this opening quarter nine seven Norcross with the two point advantage gives off a there's one right there for Jason Furman puts it down to six five sophomore 11 seven Blue Devils Milt will back it out and play for the final shot.
The Eagles top five in several national polls, most recently fourth as high as fourth in the USA Today poll.
And on the other hand, there is my man Jack Johnson, throwing it down to end the first quarter, 11 nine after one period, two coming up from the Arena, Gwinnett Center in this five boys state championship time on Secrets of the Day.

I'm not going to be like that guy.
I'm not going to be like that guy.
I'm only going to do my hands.
I'm not going to end up like that guy.
It's almost Norcross with a two point lead heading into the second quarter.
Now, Jon Nelson is courtside with more on this one.
Jon, what's going on?
Is this huddles guys in where Jesse McMillan is concerned they're breaking the game down because of our work here at GPB.
In the four minute segments, they've won the first two in their mind.
David Boylen with what's going on with Milk.
He says Crash the boards like you mean it And on defense it's going to be pressure and pressure.
And by the way, that I mentioned, pressure.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you, John.
We'll check back in with you here a little bit later on.
Yeah, very exciting.
First quarter Norcross pretty much with the lead the entire quarter.
They're very evenly matched as we talked about Herb and Milt Wolfe in the second quarter with the basketball chance to tie it up, maybe take a one point lead here.
But Coach McMillan's team doing a good job there in that first 8 minutes.
Yeah, and the defense is getting a little bit of the advantage over the offensive so far has been mostly man to man.
But Norcross now going into a two, three.
Let's see how Milton handles this.
The Eagles winners of 19 straight ball games open up the second quarter with the basketball trailing by this watch.
Nothing really an excellent pass to zone, especially three point shot by day.
Parker is off the mark again four points for Shannon Scott.
That first quarter for Milton Norcross was led by Lonzo Nelson.
Mendota back on the other end would not go foul going to be called on the Blue Devils.
Well one of our keys you turn it over, Milton's going to make it bang as the turnover didn't get the layup, but he's going to the free throw line.
And again that probably would have gone by in the first game.
They were getting a lot of contact.
But again, as long as it's consistent, players get used to it.
It's okay for you to look at Parker 12 points average on the season right there.
Again, Parker is headed to the all American all star game out in Houston Texas as a Vanderbilt commit just gets in here at the scorer's table you check in some time send John Nelson over there to stick his head in and John's ah Johnny on the spot there We'll see what's going on.
It looks like things are somewhat sorted out now.
David Boyd seems to be happy with the explanation.
So just a million probably isn't.
But he's got a partner and one of the last foul was on Herbert there.
And so here is Parker six four Senior has had an excellent career and certainly an excellent senior season to go along with.
That knocks down his first point of the night.
as a junior, people didn't know if he was going to go football or basketball.
He could have gone either one.
He he's a wide receiver and an excellent one for Julian Royall into the lineup back in for Milton.
So the 21 Jack Johnson goes out and we got to look at some of the Milton faithful in the house here tonight and two of two on that trip for Parker.
So the game's tied at 11 here early on in the second quarter.
They've got a herb white with you John Nelson courtside along with the rest of the Gp-B team for that excellent afternoon and evening of high school basketball and five second call outs.
Going back the other way, Shannon Scott's getting after it on defense, creating that turnover.
It's just all over his man.
Excellent footwork, Coach Boyd.
Happy about that one.
Boyd Of course, as the A coach at Bert Mar won titles in 2000 and 2001 as the only coach at Georgia's one four times reporter for schools.
And there's a nice use of the backboard right there by Julian Royal turnover situation Norcross nine he saw he saw Milton with five early on here Herbert this time had it blocked by Novi.
Loyd headed the other way hands off to Scott works the baseline kicks it out back to him from the corner.
No good taken down by Nelson the Delta had the good look.
Norcross worked it back on the other end feeding it inside to crew an offensive plan.
Get the roll there and it is offensive.
Jason Croom too strong in the middle there.
The six five sophomore came crashing in.
I think I credited that defensive turnover a few minutes ago to Shannon Scott has actually done John Parker D John Parker, I believe, who created it.
But I'm just impressed with the defense on both of these teams.
NULTY With the great block, he kept the separation from the man taking the ball to the basket.
Didn't get so close, he'd foul him, knew he had the size advantage, and just waited for him to shoot and blocked the shot near turnover right there.
Now it is taken away Good job by Bolden right there showing the quick hands and on the other end that's Herbert with the play in his second field goal here in this first half and the game is tied at 13 all key to that one he was under control the whole way under 6 minutes left here in this first half guilty looks everyone off and converts.
How about that?
Evan Nulty five points here in his first half of the six eight junior, and that's Purdy.
That's his old style basketball.
There.
It's time they feed Nelson the door to inside.
But there's a whistle, a total with 20 points at the quarterfinal match up there against Wheeler and it's 63 to 54 win at no to led the way with 18 in that ballgame of course Bolden hit for 26 points last night.
The win over Valdosta to that a Nelson to though it was right there with him with 16.
So those two guys have been the top two leading scorers on this North Cross team the last two games and that one missing everything there that one out of bounds McMillan must talk it over 3525 left here in the first half.
The teams will huddle up around the coaches 1513 Milton up by two John Nelson standing by courtside with more.
John what do you got for us?
Okay, here's the official explanation.
This is the ball.
They were using it as a girls basketball.
As you can see, I can almost palm this one sky's ball as her nose.
It's a little bigger.
I can't quite palm this one.
That was the explanation now for what went down.
Well, you know, I don't know if it would have mattered on some of those dunks.
It could have been a beach ball for that matter.
But there we go.
I've seen Nelson who can't even palm a softball at the small hands.
Yeah, well, good explanation right there by our very own John Nelson.
So back to action here after the timeout Coach Mack want to talk things over after the timeout with the basketball and a two point lead here Scott off the dribble lays it off the glass another good looking drive right there by Shannon Scott Nice use of the glass as you mentioned.
I'd like to see the kids using the glass.
A lot of kids don't do it, but it's certainly the high percentage when you're taking that anger to the hoop.
There's a reason why that paint that white square up there.
that's a little double flush right there by design.
More couldn't get the shot to go.
The follow wouldn't go to temple go ball still rolling around through finally with it North Brunswick another opportunity long three point shot hit it out by Bolden still alive off the glass Nelson on soda and that's going to get coach Floyd off the bench right there and he can't be too happy with that Somebody mentioned a little while ago they were pretty good rebounding team LeBron Wow what five six opportunities perhaps on that sequence on the other end nothing but net for Shannon Scott he's got eight for little pull up right there 1715 excuse me 1950 now Milton up by four Herbert dishes off on the other end boy Field goals five of 19 for Norcross Milton eight of 19 here in this first half so far.
Well that's the thing though.
Norcross is able to keep going back up with it.
They had about five or six shots on that last possession.
So a little misleading there on that percentage and great inbounds play.
They're right there.
Carter with the finish Herbert almost six foot one first amongst all these towers, six foot one feels more like five foot six out there on the floor.
But Herbert not afraid to take it inside, across back, man to man.
So that change in the defense is good.
This guy is good.
Hot.
great moves, kicks it out, creates the space for Julian Royall momentarily but Norcross adjusted that take a shot with a check that he had the left hand yesterday.
They have a pull up jumper and stand right here going to hit another one Shannon Scott is in a zone.
He's got ten sweet has gotten candy.
Boy that is a 30 stroke.
2117.
Milton we talked about Milton averaging 78 and then perhaps well on their way here to that tonight How about an eight two How about that one who made that one stick Was that Nelson Mendota I believe Nelson to go two for the pass.
Well maybe it was it again anyhow.
Nice interior passing by Norcross.
Skies are all over the place but can't keep up with him.
And your turnover right there, it will stay with him.
2119 and two point ball game 254 on the floor.
We'll take a timeout with him and be right back.
A great ball game here this five a boys contest.
We're back in a moment.
Come on.

Step on it there.
Hey, guys.
do it again.
Do it again Like a good neighbor.
Steve Evans there in my office, State Farm.
I think we're good.

Very informative website.
A lot of entertainment.
You know, at some point, Herb, I'm going to make a prediction.
TV's going to cram across the web all together.
That's everything's just going to be streamlined.
I think that's a safe one here.
We got another report in from Macon Butler, 28, Franklin County, 24 in the third quarter, low scoring games.
It's triple-A boys action in Macon in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, five a state championship playing out here tonight live on GPB.
There's a three point shot by day's Sean Parker knocks down his first Trey's got five points and Milton picks up where they left off.
They're starting to really warm up from outside right now, and that's going to create problems for Norcross if they keep throwing it like that.
Shannon Scott with ten points here in this first half to double figures.
On the other end, here is Bolden.
The shot goes in and out, taken down by Parker back and running on the other end.
George Loyd number ten in the ballgame.
It's Scott with a back up top Milton reset the half court possible move inside kicks it back out Good vision good ball movement right here three point shot for Parker how do you like that?
You're right Dave that was just textbook ball movement right there for passes and the wide open shot.
Got to love that kind of basketball.
I don't care who you pull for.
This is a milton team that defeated Oak Hill Academy, Virginia, a very legendary program.
They were ranked number one nationally whenever Milton beat them back during the Hall of Fame classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
And a whistle at midcourt right here going to be called on the Blue Devils here, all Norcross playing seven games of their own against out-of-state opponents.
They've certainly gotten a taste of travel as well.
Both these programs have traveled well this year out of state on many occasions and playing in a lot of different tournaments around the country.
Norcross Gotta be careful right here.
Milton is really getting on a roll.
They've turned up the aggression, turned up the offense, and Norcross wants to keep contact here a minute.
42 to go in the half.
Scott Little fade away.
Boy, that is just a beauty, Miss Scott with a dozen.
Or are you seeing a clinic right now from the Milton Guards and Wingmen?
Herbert off the dribble gives way to Nickerson.
We haven't talked a lot about it.
Victor Nickerson here tonight the six six senior had the basketball and momentarily take it away.
Jordan Lloyd with it going a lay it up and able to finish right there.
Nickerson With it.
cross back the other way with it going a drive, try to dish it in there and a foul on Milton underneath on Norcross needs some points I don't care how they get him that step to the free throw line.
And, you know Coach McMillan changed his offense about halfway into the season.
He was using a different offense and just decided it wasn't working for him.
And it's like you said, they started off with a losing record about halfway into the season and not quietly went to the five open offense, basically just trying to keep that floor open in the middle so his guys could take advantage of their quickness and driving ability.
And it's turned out pretty well for him.
But it doesn't matter what kind of offense you're running right now.
You got to play some deep stuff.
This Milton Club and I don't know how you do it because they're shooting with a hand in the face.
Yeah, but you look at Alonzo's numbers, seven and ten respectively here tonight, knocks down the second one, 2920.
Still a nine point advantage for Milton, who is finally pulling away in this ballgame behind a barrage of three point shots.
Tough shot right there by Royal Wooden go taken down by Moore, who had it stripped away.
Good hustle right there.
Last touch, though, by the Eagles and that ball right under our feet here hurt Todd Holcomb coming up with the loose ball, trying to kick that one back.
And boy, they're going get a good shot here.
See if he can get it down to seven or six in play some D And you're looking good at halftime because Milton probably is not going to keep up the streak there on you Hope anyhow here is Nickerson working against Nulty right here and a whistle coach boy feels about like I do on that one look like all ball but it's a big play for Norcross I need the points Well the fans flat red here tonight agree with agree with you I think he's got some great instincts on defense He got some long arms six, eight, six, eight.
And half he reaches in without fouling, which is tough to do.
We got to look at Nicholson's numbers, knocks down the first one and his first point of the night.
They're going to look at Shaquille Johnson, who's back in the lineup six for JR who may have the best vertical on the team though.
So guys all over the states and golly Petey we could use him in our starting lineup and he doesn't even start for his bicycle team.
DICKERSON Two of two on that trip right there brings the Blue Devils back with it.
Seven With time winding down here in the second quarter, Norcross has gone to a four point trap the last two times.
Got to be careful with that.
Just really good at passing the ball, but trying to slow him down just a little bit.
The two teams left when it was all said and done in Georgia's biggest classification of the five title game playing out here tonight live on GPB between Norcross and Milton, the Eagles, the defending state champions looking to make it two in a row.
Norcross looking to add to their titles and a tip at the buzzer.
What not go.
And that's how the first half wraps up 2922 It's Milton by seven at the break over Norcross here in this five eight title match up good first half a high school basketball very competitive by both teams a little bit of a slow start by Milton Norcross led it by two after one but the Eagles pouring it on in the second quarter.
Jon Nelson standing by with coach boy John.
Thank you guys here with a coach.
Let's take it a quarter at a time.
First quarter pretty much dead even.
Yeah, it's a close ballgame.
We've got to come out strong in second half and in the second quarter, the guard play, especially Shannon and Danger and they got you the lead right now it's seven.
Well we got a lot of work to do Mike thanks for your time coach man a very few words but a lot of good action.
He's up by seven, guys.
All right.
Thank you, John.
There you have it again, 2922.
Stay with us.

You can see the score in the five eight championship game boys Milton out in front of Norcross by the count of 29 to 22.
Gill Tyree, welcome to your board.
The final game on this first night of championship weekend here on GPB our live and exclusive coverage and of course we bring it to you in high definition.
With me are the two outstanding principals of these two schools of course by popular demand, Jonathan Patterson of Norcross.
And on my right, Cliff Jones, who is the principal at Milton.
I'm going to start with Jonathan first.
Cliff, but this has been for you a strange day, but it's been a good day so far.
The girls get it done.
Well, Coach Embry and the team really made Norcross proud.
I thought we had an outstanding performance by our seniors.
Diversity in the crowd.
They just our top notch kids and did a great job representing Norcross tonight.
And of course, we talk about the boys right now.
One of your alumnus of many is doing well at UConn, Jeremy LAMB.
I covered his father when he played at VCU.
Rolando Yeah We're proud of all of our kids to come out of Norcross.
We've got some great kids in the NBA right now.
So we're obviously have have a pretty good legacy going on here in Norcross.
And one of those guys in the NBA doing great things right now for the Philadelphia 76 is, of course, joining me.
Well, we've got three of them that are doing great.
And, you know, the great thing is, is that not only are they great basketball players are the great people and I think that's what coming out of Norcross is all about, is trying to develop that that whole town.
We take a look at the great alumni and of course, not only athletically, but also academically.
You guys got a lot of great things going on and well, we do tonight and we've got really a great community pride in what we do, not only in the classroom but on the field and in the fine arts arena.
We just got a great community that we serve and and they really support our school and and we're just proud to be here tonight, have two teams.
It's a great day to be in Norcross Blue Devil.
Well, you've been a world traveler.
You've been around.
You get here for the basketball game and good luck to you and we hope you get to double dip.
Well, we're work.
We're going for two tonight, so hopefully we can stop the whaler.
Amanda Hamilton heading in the way right now, Milton's Cliff Jones.
And I guess for you, you know, I heard and when we talked about when we opened that this broadcast, we were talking about the fact that this is one of the largest crowds ever here for this.
And that's a tribute to what your program is doing right now.
MILNES Tradition, basketball tradition.
The last couple of years, this has become home.
We've been here and created something that didn't exist before.
This group of young men came and have made this goal all year long since last year.
They wanted to repeat that feeling of a championship season.
You know, I heard Jon Nelson talk to Coach Boyd.
He's a man of few words, but he gets it done.
Coach Boy gets it done.
His student athletes get it done.
Getting it done happens not only on the court, but in the classroom as well.
And let's speak with if what do you guys have going on in the classrooms right now?
Because I'm actually at the mill and just like Norcross has a fine tradition of academic excellence, both on the court, in the classroom and in the theater, in the arts as well.
Excellence isn't something that you only see on TV right now.
It's something that happens every day.
I want to ask you this.
The communities that have come together, Jonathan, talked about the Norcross Nation.
Talk a little bit about the Milton mentioned the Milton nations learned a lot from Jonathan's student body right now, their togetherness and their their cheers.
We've seen it and they've learned a lot.
And we hope to have not only their type of enthusiasm, but also to have something that their girls achieve the game of for.
And that's a repeat.
Well, you have a seven point lead right now, and I hope you can extend it and maybe you'll come back with a championship and give it to Milton tonight.
Thank you, Gil.
Cliff and Jonathan, we want to say thank you.
And of course, they're doing both outstanding jobs and principles as both of these fine institutions.
As I've said many times, these two gentlemen are among the many heroes in our society because they shape and mold people in a positive way.
Now, let's go to courtside with the first half highlights, Dave Gardner and Herb White, gentlemen.
All right.
Thank you.
Yet so loud here.
We could hardly hear what's going on.
That's how big the crowd is here tonight.
It's been very electric.
Is very electric.
First half.
Let's go and take a look at some of the highlights here.
Again, Milton Norcross going at it.
Norcross with the early lead.
Herb had the momentum.
The more Milton was able to get it back in the second quarter a little bit.
Well, we knew what Milton was going to come back there just to deep to talented not too.
And they really got hot there.
And then mid-quarter again with their guard play Milton outscored Norcross 20 to 11 in that second quarter and they lead it by here you look at some of the plays Shannon Scott certainly a guy that that stood out got the roll right here finished the a half with 12 points you see a big shot there knocking it down from the outside and Scott was certainly a big player there.
Of course you see the field goals, three, three point shots, three of eight for Milton free throw seven of eight at the line for Norcross did well there.
Turnovers though Norcross again doubling up Milton on Matt Smart but that's not a good stat we talked about that before the game You turn it over, Milton's going to make you pay and they have.
But the rebounds have kept Norcross in this ballgame and we talked about that.
So good ballgame.
Looking forward to a great second half.
I'll step aside.
Have it for you right here as part of our live coverage on GPB.
It's the five eight boys title game, second half.

The number one Milton Eagles lead it over the Norcross Blue Devils as we get set for the start of the second half.
Dave Gardner Herb White with you.
John Nelson courtside along with the rest of the GPB sports team.
And Herb, looking back at that first half, again, it was a two point ballgame in favor of Norcross after the first 8 minutes, but the second 8 minutes was a whole different story.
And again, Milton's guards took over and Nulty made some great defensive plays and that's all it took to swing the momentum.
Norcross opens up the half with the basketball that was 25.
Chris Bolden on the drive came up empty though, and the travel going to be called right there.
I'm not sure Johnson was ready for that pass.
You know, I think we have to bring in the closer from the hit TV show to to try to get something out of Coach Boyd because Nellie's just not getting the job done, you know what I'm saying?
But yeah, Nelson all smiles there along the baseline.
But Coach Boyd Yeah, certainly not a guy of many words, but he's a guy of many results.
He's gotten over the years.
Five state titles, well over 400, 500 career victories actually, and 13 one playoff record with Milton Hills.
The program, when you look at it last year, state champs this year before that they lost in the finals against Wheeler but the year before that, 2008, 12 and 14 no postseason.
So how far this has come in just a couple of short years.
Yeah well that call that game against Wheeler and Wheeler had the veteran team in a great team and Milton getting pretty good ball game.
But they were so young they just didn't have the experience to beat them then.
But you could see it was coming, that's for sure.
And you know, David Boyd, he's going to play close to the vest.
He's not going to give you any information, that's for sure.
And he was a big hurt.
Did Herb, would you like to trade hypotheticals?
Hey, I try to get information out of Coach McMillan from Norcross, too, and he had to bring up the special offense for the start of the third quarter.
I was two for two.
I think Coach Ball was a little ticked.
Norcross had 19 rebounds.
Yeah, he wanted to get in there and mention that to his boys.
I believe you're right.
All in good fun, John.
You will know the crowd here has been lively, that's for sure.
Very vocal.
This go across crowd feeding off of the state championship.
They've already won here tonight.
Of course, the girls wrapping up the title over McEachern earlier this evening, just prior to the tip off of this one, there's a shot from outside, Gordon Lloyd knocking down his first field goal.
And Lloyd's a62 senior that averages a dozen points a game.
That's his first two of the night.
There's a takeaway, Lloyd with it swings it ahead Shannon Scott plays it reverses.
wow.
what's that over a dunk.
Yeah that's really even more impressive degree of difficulty about 15 on that one Shannon Scott with 14 points and we've got a push here from Barker Let's take another look at that one.
Wow.
I'm sure there are some tech and Georgia fans.
Glad to see he's going into the Big Ten and not this year.
The SCC battle, his final reverse, as you'll see there.
And again, you know, Coach McMillan had to hope they were pulling off a little bit from outside.
But Lloyd, who they sometimes call the fifth Beatle, it's just because of the talent that Milton has and he's the fifth starter and and doesn't look like there's any sign of Milton's Guard slowing down at all.
So I don't know what coach he's scratching his head over.
They're trying to think of something to come up with.
11 point lead 3322 across will inbound it underneath their own goal but take it away though Herbert unable to handle the pass here Scott trying to lay that one up out of bounds it was number 24 there.
Nelson a daughter who hit the deck and he's tried a little zone.
Coach McMillan is played man to man.
And as far as I know, that's about the only two defenses you have.
So let's see, try some hybrid things.
You just got to be impressed with Milton's guards and wing players.
They are so quick, so athletic and you to look at Scott's numbers here tonight.
That's not a season averages tonight.
Now he's got 15.
And here's an update on that score from Macon in the triple AA boys Butler up 3633 3 minutes left in the game quite Make that 3 minutes left by the end of game low scoring ballgame if it is yeah Scott knocks that one down here low scored here the 3520 to 2 teams that put up you know 7080 points a ballgame and close to it and we're flirting with the halfway point of this third quarter already 3522 traveling going to be called there and back the other way.
Milton stepping up their defensive pressure.
They double team when the ball goes inside and Coach McMillan seen enough he knows he can't let this lead grow much further than 542 left in the third period.
Milton 35 Norcross 22 Time out of the four right here.
As we talked about Milton, last year's state champions looking to make it two in a row.
Well, prime time politics and lawmakers join forces to bring you Georgia News and current events every weeknight while the legislature remains in session.
Be sure to watch weeknights at seven for all the latest Georgia politics only on GPB six.
In addition to our excellent sports coverage right there, we also have some good political coverage and news surrounding the state issues that affect people just like you and I was well known.
Gipp very much does it on great local programing like our high school sports we're seeing now.
And we've talked about Georgia travel.
We talk about our coverage of the legislature.
We just Georgia's good public broadcasting creates programs for Georgians, about Georgians and we're having a pledge drive right now.
So folks paying attention and watching those play drives, they want to call in and offer their support.
I would certainly be glad to take it.
So after the timeout, 35, 22 million leads it and you could really feel the momentum in this ball game starting to change after trailing by two at the end of the first quarter.
As I mentioned, they outscored Norcross 2211 in that second quarter and have never looked back.
They came out of the locker room for the second half and picked up right where they left off that shot by royals off the mark.
Julian Royall, who we focused on in the pre game here tonight only with two points in the ballgame has been pretty active but Shannon Scott's been knocking the lights out of everything the day John Parker also with eight as well.
So it's different guys on different nights and that's just a luxury you have when you have a lot of D-1 players.
That's exactly right.
Yeah.
Royal could take it to the basket a little harder than he does.
He kind of threw that one up there in hopes 17 seven Norcross trailing in the turnover department there.
Now Royal is going to be called for an over the back.
You know the great thing about our high school sports coverage and I know we don't talk about it much but the commercial free, if you watch a basketball or football game on cable or commercial TV, the timeouts and the endless commercials and, you know, we have some sponsors and we recognize them, but only in very limited times between the quarters and halves.
And the toit's so much more fun.
Forget people telling me all the time how much nicer it is to watch the ball games on Georgia Public Broadcasting know absolutely that last foul they're charging on to five or six by senior Gore has been held scoreless here tonight as a defender 3338.
He's the only station to broadcast the state high school championship games year after year.
And as you mention, Herb, it's your turn to score big with a small donation to GPB Tech's GPB 285944 To donate $5, remember to reply yes to confirm your donation Standard data and text message to great supply at one time donation charge of $5 will be added to your phone bill.
Support these great games and great kids.
We thank you right here at GPB.
Well, I can tell you, Dave, as a coach, nothing really burned me up much more than having a turnover, getting a turnover and having to look like a full court, a fast break away and turning the ball back over.
And that's exactly what Norcross has done a couple of times.
Boy, if you get a turnover from this Milton team, you need to hold on to it because they converted both of those right back the other way in the bucket.
So jump ball call right here.
So cross I was going to call foul.
Now it looks like a jump ball call initially, but they changed it So here's Nelson to go to Apple on trying to help the Blue Devils climb back into this one with 426 left in this third quarter of course from rattles out five state championship game here tonight Georgia's largest classification There you go.
Look at what Nelson has done.
He's got eight points.
Does it rebound Big game for the senior?
Yeah, he's playing really tough he needs some help and 15 points stretch where they need to keep this thing right here and see if they can eat away.
So they've got to turn up the defense somehow.
So it looks like we've got a timeout of the floor for 26 to play in the third quarter, 37 to 23.
Well, step aside.
Be right back.
You're watching the GHC basketball championships live on GPB.

And I certainly want to encourage folks to check out the websites.
Their look at the cheerleaders in the house here tonight.
Fired up.
I was about to say Coach McMillan needs to change something up.
He may need to try to press a little bit.
That's what he's going to do.
And it's a gamble because, man, this Milton team is quick and they can really pass the ball.
Well, the car, that's for sure, in a hurry, kind of been a tale of two different games and an emotional roller coaster here.
Norcross fan because the girls game is all Norcross and that one and in this boys game here starting to get away from them a little bit so try to complete the sweep two teams will have a chance to do that tomorrow.
Both Buford boys and girls and Greater Atlanta Christian's boys and girls are in the tournament, but they're all facing each other in the practice.
It'll be interesting to see what happens there.
great.
see, I think it's a summer there.
Scramble for it.
Yeah, it was Nickerson battling underneath for the Braves.
So Nickerson, with the two points here in the ballgame so far the six six senior averaging 11 on the year all across trying to get it done at the free throw line here tonight chatter slowly work their way back into this.
Still plenty of time with 348 left in the third period.
You know, there's no there's no 13 point shot.
You know, you got to kind of chip away at it a little bit.
Well, exactly.
And they did what they had to do.
They turn the defense up a little bit down the other end.
They got the blocked shot came down.
And the main thing is and they converted the turnover of the blocked shot into points.
And that's what you have to do it again against a team like Milton.
You have to be very, very proficient, not take bad shots, not turn the ball over and every possession you've got to get a good shot.
12 point game 37, 25 inside, 4 minutes of the third quarter.
great ball movement right there.
No drama contact of 212.
Kind of a spread out zone there.
Again, you saw that excellent passing by Milton's put that out.
Look here.
This is the shot he touches right there for him with the contact, puts healthy at the line.
Who knocks down the first one of the heaviest players?
You'll see two of that beautiful Look away, move on the drive early and then that great head fake right there to draw the foul.
Six points for rebounds for the junior.
It does a lot of little things that don't show up in the stat sheet, especially our stat sheet.
But you know, he's out there, he blocked shots, he makes the right pass may not be the assist every time but it's the pass that leads to the assist ice bucket on the other end.
Victor Nickerson with a nice drive got six points Billings road through the playoffs they defeated central Gwinnett round one Peach Tree Ridge in round two big ball game right here.
But that one 7458 double double dribble.
There you go.
Turn it up.
That defensive pressure, that's where they're going to come back, which they defeated Mill Creek in the quarter final, 6934.
Then, of course, last night defeated Tipp County 7553.
Tip Sansom semifinal appearances and so forth.
Well, they're going to get that foul and say whoever was he was guard trying go for the push off or crush on a little backcourt pressure right here.
Try to force some turnovers and that may be their only shot ultimately in this one.
Well, that just just try to take them out of their comfort zone, Dave.
Just yeah, just something to kind of get them out of that zone they were in.
Moultrie Thought about the three, take that back out.
That's boy number ten with the ball being guarded here by Croom one on one nearly lost the handle scramble for its turn.
Nice job.
Takes it away, feeds it ahead Nelson I don't raise it.
yes.
that was too much dribbling back room right there and the boy can't be happy with that.
And that led to a turnover as well.
And then kind of looking like that ball game we had in the four game day, the zone trapping up, up tempo defenses turn this thing around a little bit.
Boyle Trying to feed it inside to Scott goes away a tie there off the top of the glass No good rebound Nelson to go to Nickerson will push it the other way ten point ballgame right here Croom just going to turn around taking a shot off glass and one what a shot by Jason Carroll.
He's going to have to have him.
Can't bank on that one, too.
No, he was trying to bank it, but he got it.
Tough angle, but he got it.
And if he makes this, we got a an eight post seven point ballgame.
Davis another six by sophomore coming through big no crosses went on a little bit of a run when it looked like Milton was going to put it away.
Perhaps that's an eight point run.
They were down 15 a little while ago.
Yeah, 30 to 39.
And that has gotten his Norcross crowd back into the game.
Milton, again, the number one team in the state and is one from the corner while Nulty knocks it down He's got ten.
Well, that'll take the steam out of you right there, boss.
The handle on that one.
Good, says Moore, kicks it out for him again with another shot.
This one won't go position inside, though.
Nickerson up and in low cross really going to work but they throwing the ball out of bounds Just a super effort by Croom to get over there and save that one day absolutely 4234 Royal in the corner being guarded by the go to the ball knocked away thrown ahead.
Nickerson lays it up draws the foul big contact right there nearly a chance at three with that ball would go in and that was D John Parker with the foul from behind the Norcross base A what an intentional foul right there but I don't think we're going to get the call there you see the replay that's a good place going for the ball got him up pass you guys the worst of it actually coming down easy with some big free throws here by Nickerson Set this thing to six Let's get on the way.
Is there I tell you what, Norcross has created about five or six turnovers.
Milton was just post and looking like a well-oiled machine and it just shows you what turning up that defense and the extra effort can do for you and also change it up a little with that zombie.
It always felt like, I don't care if your man demands working, just change it up a little bit every now and then to keep the other team getting comfortable.
It seems to work more than on double figures for Nickerson.
He's got ten Milton now trying to answer this Norcross barrage.
They made up a lot of ground at the free throw line here, but you create those opportunities and that's what Norcross has done.
It's taken it to the rack four on the whistles and tightness.
So it was a large lead down to this level.
And you can see Milton a little more tentative with the basketball now.
Well, back it out right here.
They're going to hold it for one more Sean Parker dribbling made for good play by Coach Gore.
In my opinion, going with the lead you got to know or another a little bit more but don't give the Norcross another chance to cut it down And that one in and out right there by No.
Two final seconds winding down.
Still time to make something happen at the buzzer.
Three point shot is short to end the third period, but we've got ourselves a ball game for three quarters.
It's Milton, 42, Norcross, 36, The fourth and final period of this five state championship is on the other side of the break.
Stay with us.

So they and I can't believe we haven't done this before.
wow, look at that.
A bike do jingle.
Do they take like a good neighbor step on his desk.
Hey, guys.
do it again.
Do it again like a good neighbor.
Step over there in my office.
Stay firm.
I think we're good.
State Farm agents are there when you need them.
I'm only going to try meth once, and I'm not going to be like that guy.
Hey, look, I'm only going to smoke meth once.
I'm not going to be like that guy.
Look, I'm just going to shoot up just just once, all right?
I'm not to be like that guy.
I'm not going to be like that guy.
I'm only going to do my part.
I'm not going to end up like that guy.
Back here live at the Arena Gwinnett Center.
Milton leads at 4236 over Norcross.
As we get set for the start of this fourth quarter, a very old John Nelson is courtside.
John, what do you got?
About halfway through the third quarter, guys.
Coach McMillan challenged his team.
He was not happy with their energy level, their excitement level, their passion or their movement.
You saw in the last 4 minutes of the third quarter that there's a big difference.
Energy levels up and the kids were even directing themselves as to their own approach, getting into this two possession game as we head to the fourth quarter, this sounds like what my wife tells me when we go to the dance floor.
You will do this.
No passion, little energy, come on.
But you know, she took that three a little too soon and it gave Beau Norcross a chance to come down and they hit that three man.
That would have been huge.
But now Coach Boyd had a chance to get his guys over there with the long break between quarters, get him calmed down.
Let's see what happens.
Parker, Just stop inside.
There is no team with two off the feed from oil.
And Milton opens the fourth quarter with points.
Blue Devils kick it out into the corner.
Three point shot on the way that one off the mark by Nelson a delta rebound there by northeast played a huge ballgame on the board since Anthony averages 14 he is six eight junior certainly stood up his first 3 minutes of this quarter is going to be huge.
Dave you've made your run.
You got back in the ballgame now.
Milton has scored.
First they score again, It's double digits again.
You look out and you think all that effort and we're still down double digits So they to stop here didn't get it And there's two for Julian Royal that's the only royal second field goal of the night but it makes it a ten point ballgame penalty put it on a platter for.
Yep three point shot from way out there is there for Josiah Moore that's his first points of the game.
More of the six five senior knocks down a huge trey and there's a quick 32nd time out on the floor.
Well I don't play that one going to come at a better time then we've got a final butler 45, Franklin County 39.
So the table is set for tomorrow night boys game there again Butler taking on Columbia and we had earlier scored Dalton 53 Chris County 46 and the three girls and it's anybody's ballgame here in Gwinnett Center Gwinnett Arena now absolutely and that's the way you want it.
We've had some great ball games.
Our viewers have been treated to some excellent games.
And tomorrow will be no different.
Wesleyan you saw there on the single-A girls and single-A boys, Wilkinson County, Terrell County, Jack Buford on the girl side and the boys side.
You see The Times as well.
Of course, the A boys matchup will follow in double double way between Gassy and Buford.
And of course, the triple-A stage is now set to talk about Dalton and Washington County have defeated Washington county.
They're making it to the triple-A Girls Championships.
Of course, the finale championship weekend will feature Columbia and Butler.
Columbia will have a chance to make it two in a row.
And there's a big three point shot by Evan Nulty, who continues his hot hand 15 points.
We grinding very shot there.
Kind answer, maybe not a good one there by Norcross needed a bucket four more hit from the same spot on the floor a moment ago but unable to hit that one.
And now Milton with the basketball and double digit lead once again 4939 with 6 minutes left kicks it out.
So hand on it, three point shot going to be short notice.
Well, I'll tell you what.
He was hustling, rapping for it.
It's very reminiscent of the four eight game, Dave.
I mean, it's very similar.
You had a very talented Miller Grow team and Rockdale County coming back and spending a lot of energy getting back in the ball game, cutting it down to two, I think at least.
And Norcross hasn't gotten that close, but it's very similar.
Now let's see if they can close the deal and keep coming.
Blue Devils Road to the State Championship took it through last year in the first round Centennial in round two.
And nice looking bucket right there by Bolden until his second field goal of the night but the junior steps up hits that one makes it an eight point game for North Runner teardrop that's as pretty as it gets absolutely What's Ross with the beat Wheeler in the quarterfinals repaying the favor from a couple of years ago Nothing to go to a game with 20 points in that one that were nearly taken away.
And now the shot by Nulty won't go but on the line back the the way it goes.
Well Norcross can get some turnovers elbows had won there but one thing you won't see a David Boyd team is beat themselves They're not going to take bad shots they're not going to throw bad passes most of the time.
So you're going to have to come and get them to reach in.
Champions squared off toe to toe here tonight, Norcross region seven champs.
And boy, boy, there's a big one right there.
Jason Crewe, with another dunk.
Got it down to a two possession game.
Now.
Well, might be a little spark right there on the other end of the way and beautifully done by Jordan Lloyd.
Well, he just stayed under control and that's the key to that one.
Make defense commit and then you make your move your block right there by wall.
But I believe they're going to call him for the foul.
Julian Royle, six foot eight senior We focused on him and in here averaged 15 points a ballgame seven rebounds and a play in the All-America game headed to Georgia Tech.
It looks like stay local.
Meanwhile, you see Nelson MADODA, who has signed with Richmond, Nickerson has signed with USC, Charlotte, of course, Josiah Moore looks like he might be headed to Nebraska.
So you've got a lot of D-1 talent on the floor right now for both teams.
I stroke their biodata for 30 to go.
He needs this one as well.
At this point, I think you pretty much have to hit about every free throw, every chance you get at the line.
You've got to make it stick.
And Nelson, the dodo did just that on that trip.
And it's a six point ballgame.
Once again, Red Cross pick up full court with that trap.
It Looks like Herbert into the lineup right here.
Got it to the middle.
That's where you want to get it.
That's the way to break that.
Chris Hoping for it to the baseline.
Had it knocked away dono came over nice block without the foul it note he's not the most explosive guy in the world but he is really shifty in round pass right there to Julian Royal never beat we're already in the air he didn't even need the floor almost a little alley oop pass off the inbound royal puts it in there for his sixth point of the night and was three point shot.
Here is money for Chris Paul.
Wow.
Downtown dangerous pass.
They got away with it.
Bolden had 26 last night.
The semifinal win over Valdosta has been held to just seven points here following that three point shot in this fourth quarter.
But no better time for him to heat up.
And right now, that's one of the ones that coach says, no, no, no.
Yeah, exactly.
We got a net up on the rim down here.
I don't know if the officials see it.
They saw the urgency.
There you see it.
Good drama work here tonight by our GPB crew.
Our sports team is glad run out there, get it off of there.
But I can't quite get up that far and nor do I never have been able to do so.
I don't really know that feeling.
All right, big possession here.
We got it's a five point ball game and this is a huge trip down the floor for Norcross, designed more with the basketball more Blunt lays it up right here would not go in they're going to get multi throw with the back Nope.
Hey, guys Parker is this going to be three on Parker?
And that will put Croom at the line.
Jason Croom has played pretty well here tonight.
He averages five points, but he's hit four seven here and a chance to draw the Blue Devils even closer.
He knocks down the first so similar keep saying that for a game but they're doing it on the offensive board just like they did with the defense and then coming down here not and just refusing to go away without any points When they get down here on their offensive in here now with 11 it's a one possession game Herb 53 to 50 and here comes the pressure.
Let's see how Milton handles it.
That's Jesse McMillan Barking.
I suppose they're going to look at the rear cross paper clad in white and get it in both his hands.
He makes good decisions in the way of that one off at him with the hip.
Golden got him with the hip fracture side versus score and he's going to be three on Bolden 16 fouls so his Blue Devils have one to give Croom will step back and Herbert will go so across the shot a lot of free throws.
Milton has been unable to get to the line, but they will win the next one under the believe, Scott finally gets rid of it.
Over to Lloyd.
Careful here It's going to be called by Coach David.
The win That was a five second call.
Another second good timeout full time out on the floor with 247 left in regulation.
It's a three point ballgame in this five boys state championship and the rear cross battle is fired up as well.
He's going to make some good DVDs of tonight's ball game, Dave, I guarantee you, buddy.
I think so.
Certainly a good keepsake no matter what side you sit on, if you like good basketball.
This has been a well-played game on both ends.
Norcross got down just because Bill got out there and executed their offense and stroking it, knocking him down.
But they didn't give up as they made adjustments they needed to Very similar again, went to his own trap, made it some different tempo in the ballgame, but their energy level got back in this thing right above the magic for inside play.
look, in the time when the ball goes a quarter you get your protect the and he'll be singing in the and boy switch The last loss for Norcross was back on January 18th against north Gwinnett rather off 16 straight Meanwhile this Milton team with just two losses this year 29 and two coming in as rattled off 19 straight.
So something's got to give here this evening that's for sure.
Type of ball game you'd expect from two great teams with a lot of right.
Two great players and well, we're lucky here in Georgia to have basketball now.
One, three, one trap, another look by Norcross.
They come out after the 62nd time out there.
Milton, a little floater right there, a little shot put by Lauren but it wouldn't go and is on Grant's basketball.
that's just a great defensive job by Jesse McMillan at 131 you're looking for the steal in that one They almost had it but they got the rebound and now they come down with the biggest possession of tonight's ballgame during the two minute mark And this one, the five boys state championship on the line here at the Arena Gwinnett Center and there's the bucket by defender Henderson He's got a dozen and it's a one point game.
Hang on brother and sister 2 minutes left to decide this one how to paid to get in this one day three point shot on the way on the other end not go and a foul.
What's it going to be called They're on more it looks like battle for the loose ball but you can see the momentum when you look at the gym.
Let's see the board for spacewalkers feet.
The Milton fans are a little bit more subdued right here because they realize that this ball game is perhaps slipping away after they were in control at one point.
well, it's in line for some big free throws.
If he makes two, it's still a one possession game and no, Norcross does not have to go for a three, although I wouldn't tell Bolden that roll knocks down the first.
Coach McMillan had a quote somewhere.
Let's see if I can find it.
Something like Bolden's got the green light any time he wants it.
It's the green line and everyone has to respect him.
So he made a believer out of me.
Step one All the way by Rhode Island.
It's they're two for two on that trip, but still a one possession ballgame.
Time on the floor here with 50 to play Milton up by 355 to 52.
Now if I was coach Boyd and he's a great coach, I might come out with a little half court, three quarter court trap, see if I couldn't create something.
Take Norcross out of their comfort zone a little bit.
He's been laying back there and Norcross has been having success.
So he's over there.
There's the Milton crowd fired up.
He could have a clinic.
We had a camera and microphone, and each of these coaches he can put on a clinic this summer.
From what these guys are saying right now.
Absolutely.
We're talking about he, Victor Nickerson, 3.3 GPA has an AP class load and he's more proud of telling his teammates about his calculus test scores.
So far, more than a year of success on the court.
There.
Now, let's see what Milton does defensively.
And again, we said the last possession for Norcross was the biggest one in the game.
I take that back this possession down the floor was the biggest possession of the game.
I was going to say my commend the last touch for either team.
The way this thing is playing out here tonight, Milton's going to back off, pick him up in half court.
Still plenty of time left, though.
Minute 45 is an eternity in high school basketball, as we all know.
back with that right here.
Baldwin kicks it back out next in three point shot for four.
Wow He Victor Nickerson Chance for a four point player with Bolden strong wide open They couldn't get him the ball to shoot the shot and they got lucky because he kicked it out to Nickerson here in the corner a pass and wow wow fans are going absolutely wrong as you see in the garden cross bench explode and a chance to give Norcross the lead 15 points tonight for Nickerson they perfect six of six at the line miss that one though his first miss of the night.
Yeah I wondering if he's going to call and he was right in front of the official he had to make the call and it was a push and he Victor may have to take that off his name.
It may just be Victor before this one's over.
We'll see if they have a look here.
But no doubt he got a bit done.
So remember the last time we had a tie game?
But I said this game was back in the first quarter sometime.
Well, I was going to say Norcross led by two after one, but since early in that second quarter, it's pretty much been all Milton.
It's just an awesome ball game and but some pressure free throws here for Mr. on the first sure like to come away with one of them then even if Milton or Milton scores a three you're still still only down to and four in the sixth by sophomore.
This is both a couple of tough misses right there, but still a minute a half the boys announce Milton to try to answer on the other end.
Now stay 131.
Milton plays it right.
They should get a pretty good look here.
But Norcross is going to be looking for the steal.
Are they going to hold for the last shot, Dave?
I don't know.
I wonder if Norcross to let him sit back and hold it for a whole minute.
If they.
Amy Looks like they're pretty content right here.
Coach McMillan is talking to his guys a little bit defensively.
Coach Boyd, awesome whistle hand gestures here.
And let's see who blinks first.
Yeah, they've dropped out of the 131.
Now they're packed it back in there they come north.
Roscoe applied the pressure coach Sean Parker being guarded by firing back Gortat nearly knocked away what a pass behind the back right there but no one to go with it Bolden with it throws it up draws the whistle and that thing nearly went in Wouldn't that have been something?
Well we may have had some better championship games today, but someone's going to have to show me one because this is really something great.
Plays on both ends of the floor.
NORCROSS Just great defense down on the other end where they needed it.
We're going to look at Chris Paul, seven points here tonight, two of two from the free throw line and six to junior guard knocks down the first one.
It gives Norcross the lead.
He stepped up there looking a little more confident and firm.
Good.
He wanted it.
And now let's see what Norcross does defensively.
Are they going to come out and trap?
They may come out aggressive.
You just don't want to foul two for 24a4 from the line tonight for Bolden it's a two point Norcross lead and a full time out on the floor with 28 points seven on the clock.
Wow.
We've been treated as a high school basketball over the years.
But I'm with you.
I'm not sure we've seen on to too much more time better than this game here tonight.
It's just been a very, very well-played game.
Very few bad shots.
There's been some turnovers, but most of the turnovers have been created by the defense.
It has been sloppy play by the offense.
So I don't know what else you could ask for in a high school basketball game, maybe in overtime.
Of course we do have to pay extra for that.
I don't know.
Yeah, well, you figure that out with the rest of the night after listening here to the coaches.
Tough to hear anything with this.
Yes, it is Norcross crowd going nuts behind us here in Jacksonville in coach sports right now.
Let's hear it all.
Final 28 seconds and we'll do it all over again tomorrow in Macon.
12 hours of live coverage gets underway at 11 a.m. with the single-A girls game.
Well, I don't have anything to do the wives out of town so I can stay here all night if I want to play a few overtimes.
Might me out of trouble.
22 seconds left.
Go across by two.
And the pressure really on Milton, a team ranked as high as number four nationally, three point shot from way out there is off the mark by multi jump ball call possession arrow in favor of Norcross and they going to call a foul or are they going to call they were going to call foul on it looked like the initial sign was jump ball but it is going to be a foul so Jordan will be at the line with a chance to tie it up.
Well, Milton went for the win.
Milton took the three pointer, didn't get it to go down.
Boy, they came up with a big rebound.
They're almost able to time Rutgers Norcross and get the jump ball but boy the pressure is palpable now first one on the way so down to the one and one missed by Lloyd rebound Croom jump ball called this time possession zero to an orthodox continues it they had the jump ball he didn't try to pull it away or anything he just waited for the official to call jump ball smart play time out on the floor once again with 7.5 on the clock.
Yeah, some exciting guys going over there acting like they want it.
I guarantee you this one still not over.
Milton's Going to put pressure all over the court.
As soon as that ball comes in, they're going to foul.
Well, when we first hit the 10:00 hour, Herb, your own, the Norcross fans were pretty quiet.
Looked like they were going to happen.
You said a lot of girls come play, boy.
And there's the play to get the ball in right here.
Here you're going to Gordon Jason and you see he's got those guys going down court.
Listen, if you throw the ball away, you want to throw the ball away, pass half court at least three more.
Boy, you don't want to throw it away, but you don't want to throw it to somebody coming towards the basket so they can get a shot at seven half seconds.
They get the ball down at the other end.
They're going to have to come a long way to get a bucket North Cross without any timeouts left.
Well, they don't need one at this point.
They shouldn't.
Once they inbound it, it's going to be right there on it because, you know, Milton's going to have to foul here.
So he's going to take the ball out of bounds.
This is is Milton going to play the man with the ball?
All kinds of permutations here.
Stay tuned.
Immediately following ball game here.
Of course, trophy presentations in this five boys game.
It'll certainly go down as a classic here at the Arena.
Big win at Center Nickerson with the ball out of bounds special told him he can run the baseline he gets it in foul play by play That's your job, babe.
I'll tell you what, it's easy.
Sit back and be a spectator.
This.
Would you go right and do a little color?
Bolden's four of four from the line tonight and he'll be the guy at the line right here with a chance to possibly put it away with a pair of free throws.
I don't think they'd have anybody else on the stripe involved, no less to look pretty confident.
Yep.
Got to make them both to Isaac and got the first one.
They can't lose it.
Niggers.
Nope.
If he hits this one more than likely.
That's interesting.
I don't know if Coach McMillan would foul it.
I'm happy it is.
Bolden six of six from the free throw line here tonight.
It's a four point ballgame time winding down.
The shot at the buzzer is off the mark and no class Blue Devils have captured the five D state basketball championship in dramatic fashion, knocking off round number one in Georgia and perhaps one of the top five teams in the country and the Milton Eagles.
Well, I've been doing this since 95.
The best game I've ever been associated with.
I can't ever remember seeing a better played more exciting championship basketball game than this one here tonight.
It's just been awesome.
What a euphoric night for the Norcross faithful to state titles in one night.
The girls did it earlier and now the boys follow the end of this ballgame in dramatic fashion and make it a more cross sweep in five eight Georgia basketball this year, down 15 in the third quarter.
Dame 15 points to a hot shooting Milton team who's playing very well.
You go ahead, step aside.
Be right back with the trophy presentations live from the arena Gwinnett Center when we return.
Don't go anywhere, my friend, For the next generation of telescopes, a new quest begins.

Well, they lost nine games this year, but the North Cross Blue Devils won when it counted 5955 over, the number one Milton Eagles to claim the five boys State championship.
They've got Herb White back here with you.
They're going to look at the Milton Eagles who will claim the runner up prize here tonight out of Alpharetta.
But now it's time for the championship presentation as we get set to go to the floor and the North Cross Blue Devils will take Center stage.
Let's throw it to the floor.
What a fantastic finish to the five eight championship game.
Norcross winning 5955.
We now bring in the director of the HSA, Dr. Ralph Swearingen.
Wow, what a fitting way to end this great day of basketball.
Going to ask going to ask that our representatives from State Farm make the trophy presentation right now.
Gentlemen, on behalf of State Farm Insurance and your Norcross agent, congratulations on your prosperity.
Excited about the semifinal win, excited about the chance to play for the state championship.
Now you've won here.
Yeah, we've got a motto on our Norcross website that says we believe we will win.
And that's our school, That's our school motto.
And that's something that we've been preaching and something that our students say and our parents and our community saying We really do believe that we're going to win and everything that we do.
And we showed it tonight.
You guys fell behind.
You didn't got rattled.
You came back, battled back and won in their late stage of the game.
We've talked all year long about being smart and playing defense and taking high percentage shots.
And when we had the opportunity to go in a run, we did it.
We capitalized on it.
So just very proud of these guys, extremely proud of these.
What a great night for Norcross High School.
The devil, the boys and the girls winning.
Absolutely fantastic.
It is great to be a blue devil for sure.
All right.
We bring in Chris Bolden.
Chris, a lot of pressure on you there.
In the fourth quarter.
You hit the key free throws.
Talk about winning this championship.
It was just a rematch last year.
Like we it more I wanted it that when I got to the line what was it like to defeat Milton obviously the number one ranked team in the country in the state.
We knew all year long that we were going to meet up with them in the championship game group and we didn't care for that moment, but we wanted it more.
What does this mean for you?
At Norcross High School?
The boys and girls team both winning.
That's a great feeling.
We're about to celebrate tonight.
All right.
Congratulations, Norcross, the winner.
We'll send it back over now to David Hurley for some final comments.
All right.
Thank you, Mark.
Again, plenty of action tomorrow at the Making Coliseum.
Herb, good to be working with you here.
Just an exciting night of high school basketball.
We'll do it all over again tomorrow.
Well, you I'm really speechless, David.
I'm just about rendered that.
What if we top this tomorrow?
Bring the cardiac unit.
There you go.
Well, for our entire GPB sports team and for her wife and for Jon Nelson, I'm Dave Gardner.
Saying, So long, everyone.
Norcross, your 2011 five A boys basketball state championship.
