Live from the Macon Coliseum, it's the five eight boys State championship between the Lakeside Vikings and the Wheeler Wildcats.
And good evening, everybody, and welcome.
Welcome to our continuing coverage of championship weekend.
I'm Jim Tanaka.
Nine games in the books.
One more to go and to call it downstairs is Charles Ward and Herb White.
Okay, guys.
And thanks a bunch, Jim as we get set for the five.
In the men's division, it features the Wildcats of Wheeler and the Vikings of Lakeside and Herb.
We talk about this match up tonight.
Two teams with very similar styles.
Right.
And you can compare them a little bit by saying this lakeside team, the only team to beat Marietta Blue Devils this year who were highly touted team was some great players and we learned lost twice to Marietta.
So there you get a little bit of a comparison Here's Anthony Register for Lakeside He's a scoring guard who gets 19 a game four points six rebounds, gets a lot of steals, gets a couple of assists a game.
But he's also about a 35% three point shooter and he can score.
He's got a sweet looking left handed jumper.
Paul Bako, a66 guard.
He's a do it all kind of guy.
He can put up bigger points in his average if he has to gets on the board.
He blocks some shots.
But he really is the guy the key to their offense as far as making it go.
The ball goes through him, he makes some nice penetration and dishes.
And then here's Bradley Stricklin, then even average double figures.
But he's capable of getting 18 or 20 points in a game is a nice rebounder.
He's slim looking, doesn't look like he's aggressive.
But Charles, he can really get up above the basket and they like to throw the alley oop to him, especially Bako.
And he works really well together.
And they're both good shot blockers for Wheeler brother of Shareef Abdul Rahim Mohammed Abdul Rahim scored 46 in one game this season and he's an explosive scorer only average 16 but he can put up big numbers and he's got a really sweet jump shot.
Also gets on the backboards.
Cornell Green I think this is the key player in my estimation for Wheeler.
Great all around basketball player can score inside outside he rebounds passes he got tremendous moves inside the paint even though he's only six five.
He can hang in there and deliver and score and he's going to be somebody that they're really going to have to slow down.
And Shadow Crawley, great names, had a great career.
Four wheeler gets a lot of points.
He's a guard point guard makes his wheeler team go.
He distributes the ball.
Also a lefty with the jump shot and great balance by Wheeler three players averaging 16 points a game.
We you take a final look at Crawley he was had food poisoning in that semifinal ball game got released from the hospital on that same day.
He still contributed 11 points to the win by the wheeler.
Here you see the road for these teams.
Pretty good competition state in North Cobb, Chattahoochee, Marietta and Jonesboro in the semifinals.
Lakeside, with a really good semifinal game, took charge in the last 10 minutes of that and kind of pulled away in there as Wheeler defeated North Gwinnett Redan and Burke Morrow, a pretty good ball club, and also beat Morrow pretty well the other night.
So both teams playing very well in the semifinals.
Look for him to take it into the finals as well.
Should be a sky high match as we join the play.
ANNOUNCER With the introduction of both teams, Preston is going home to.
May I have your attention for the starting lineups?
First for Lakeside forward number 21.
Oh, but who for We look at forward number three.
Oh they go from three for Lakeside Forward number 11, Corey Searcy for William for number ten.
So don't really for Lakeside that's sinner number 40.
Bradley Strickland, four Wheeler, a scorer, Number 12.
Irving Huber for Lakeside head guard.
Number 23 eight will BO will add forward for his center of town and guard number 48 for register.
Oh we'll forward number 30 413 Starting lineup for both teams were set to begin the five women's match up.
But before we do that, we'll take a break and we'll come back with the tip off.

Back light for the boys five eight Championship All game.
The Vikings of Lakeside and the Wildcats of Wheeler.
The winner gets crowned champ Rob Tribble standing by courtside Rob Charles to start off in the second ranked team in the state goes unnoticed.
But that's been the case with Wheeler.
Myriad to go on the bump this year, especially after winning their first 30 games and being 16th in the country.
But that just gets huge.
Doug Lipscomb just finally been able to merely go about their business on the other side.
Lakeside has never gone this far before.
They've done it under first year head coach Randy Gold.
This is going to be a heck of a ballgame and we're ready to get it started.
The Taft's going to be controlled by the Vikings.
They'll have first crack on offense left corner they go to seriously on the move.
That's because now they coach out the block guy for the glass and got the Vikings with the first two of the ballgame man to man defense opened up by Wheeler and we see a little pressure as the valley comes across the time line with a pass to Raheem Raheem in the paint back out front he goes the green screen to Raheem for three for the Wildcats.
Following up on Rob Temple's comments, Coach Lipscomb said he didn't want to be the favorite in this game, even though he's number two.
He said, Hey, Lakeside beat number one, they should be favored.
But I got to got to feel like Wheeler should be the favorite here, but it should be a good one.
The left side, the Vikings have it in the field for it.
They trailed by one after the basket by Raheem from three point lead on the way him it's register.
He registers his first two and the Vikings take a43 lead quickly into the frontcourt.
Now the Wildcats have it on the move slowly slowly between the legs right side Raheem now down in the corner for three to hit the side of the of was cleared by Williams.
Here come the Vikings up the throat of a cold right side in the corner.
Now up top they kick it to Williams for three The rattler pops out of there but coast over the back of Green Hill commit at the foul call Bitcoin Cornell Green it's going to be a great matchup.
Coach Gowan told me before the game he thought one of the keys was going to be able to end.
The big key was going to neutralize Cornell Green and Paul Bako, the great defensive player.
They're about the same size.
This is going to be an interesting matchup.
Charles Green had 26 in the semifinal game, so that's not a bad strategy.
Yeah, and he's definitely the best player for Wheeler.
He's a great all around player and watch Benkert and and Bradley Strickland because they coat and he makes them beautiful alley oop plays Benkert likes to throw that alley oop and Strickland can really get up in there and throw it down Wildcats throw it away at basketball to the Vikings.
And you talk about Strickland structural football also just a fun kid overall familiar with the family and raised and just fine back the other way rattling another three it's Searcy in the corner for the Vikings they lead at seven three so see with the basket it's an early Viking lead inside the paint Crawley banked it home somehow for the Wildcats.
Well spectacular play early here Charles neither team showing any signs of jitters We talked about a being playing above the rim right now we've seen some an early on out front Williams handles correlates side of right side he goes to CSU CSU behind the ARC Boston dribble now down on the paint on the third register in traffic double teamed Russell is on the play he was held once they got Raheem for the hold and a couple of good left handed guards going at it out their register can really shoot the sweet jumper.
He can take it out to three point distance or he can shoot it from mid-range jumper to register, averaging 19 points per ballgame.
It's nice elevation on his jump shot.
It's about six two and really gets up in the air with it at the line register to shoot.
We've got some major college prospects in this game.
Charles, take a look at Coach Lipscomb with his two year performance out of Wheeler walking forces at the sideline as a register converts on the first free throw Randy Garland first year at Lakeside 20 and five in the first year.
Not that over the back row against Lakeside was called on Nate Williams.
As we take a look at tonight's officials, Keith Sumner, Eric Taylor and Napoleon Jenkins and the Wildcats in the backcourt.
Now they trailed by three left corner.
They it three on the move for the seven and the spinners off the mark Avon's clear by Searcy there from the Vikings certainly across the timeline all right everybody goes with the pass register up top for the coast the coach penetrating left side all the way through the left in the lower left hand for the glass he missed on the lay in Raheem clears the shot There comes Crawley down Crawley left side all the way through to the glass underneath He missed like little players by cruise got a three on one the coach runs the floor miss from the top.
Raheem clears three, walks it over to Crawley left side early all the way through reverse, lay in left it's short backside rebound by green and the put back bacon and Strickland make it tough inside They can both block shots fake going down on that dump Miss dunk took it a little too easy it looked like casual on that one Charles Green knocked it out of bounds for the Wildcats.
It will remain with the Vikings for 46 remains of a quick first quarter, or at least the pace.
This pace is quick at this point.
Pretty nice to have a66 guard in high stress, low.
Williams handles trying to work on a screen right side nice no cry about the pressure another no call there.
Basketball goes out of bounds Williams lost it a little bit wrong for the Wildcats Well nobody got an advantage there.
Good No call.
It's the championship game.
Let them play.
Wildcats won the 1994 title.
Lakeside has never won a state title.
Green on the need for Leader to the Glass shot all off.
He is foul, though.
For now.
Green really has an explosive first step to the basket Charles and he made some moves the other night where he hung in the air made two or three moves while he was up there and still laid the ball in.
So he's really some kind of athlete.
It's going to be a fun game to watch.
GREEN actually watch some football.
You're out of the playoffs.
The birds on the first free throw.
They're actually transferred into Wheeler played at Campbell at the 2000 season and they got it They made it to the semifinals just on the second split compares the basketball to the Vikings register in the back court at school for pressure by the Wildcats Vikings out front for three.
CSC had a good look with rattles and it falls off Buckland clear for the Vikings.
Another look seriously that side down on the court of the coach bounce pass inside switches for college number five He missed it nice ball Myers couldn't get it to go down to three or four Nice passes Charles back the other way now Hillman handles blocks left left side with the pass to Kolar early to Raheem behind the arc on the move left corner double team down low It's tapped out of bounds by Searcy Both these ball clubs solid defensively they'll use different defenses they really help will in the man to man and that's a good matchup with backcourt on green look at that There he is all over him Wildcats having some difficulty getting it in double do to Hillman and he got the easy LAMB Irv Irving Hillman the senior with two and it's a ten eight striking lead we are leading in at ten eight hardly back the other way and our lakeside with the basketball, they work up out front over the Williams wall as cross dribble on hill but inside the paint prospectus supplement dropping out of the way but 18 clear so the Wildcats over the green green on the coast right side to the glass shot swatted by Strickland who was catching up on the play but they're going to get Strickland for the foul Yep Paul fell he got fouled at the other end I think he had a little bit of a grudge coming down.
He took a pretty good shot at that.
And Bradley, here you see the replay.
Cornell Green taking it the length of the floor on the dribble gets past big coat nicely.
I don't know about that looked like he might have got him with the body after the shot but Bradley Strickland is about six.
He probably weighs maybe £170, Charles, So he can elevate about as easily as anybody I've seen in a while.
Effortlessly, he gets up over the hoop, struck like just a junior from the Lions when Al Green embarks on the first and he's getting that weight room.
If he wants to move on to the next level and play some, but he's got some tools.
If he puts on about 15 or £20 of muscle Green, but a second misses on the second spectrum had a hand on it.
It comes through because he's tied up in the back court now walking with into the four right side with the pass down in the corner.
He got it to Williams up top and on the lose register right side whistle on the play a good quarter for the block I thought they were going to get offensive but Crawley might have been on the move on the replay was he was on the move so left of the cylinder Vikings will inbound that register looks inside got a man speaking to the glass on the lane and sensing they were patient on the inbounds play.
Searcy finally cleared came off a little curl on that pick wide open wheeler by one they have the basketball here in Milwaukee right side challenging the coach for the glass shots off the court players down tied up up the floor He goes with the pass to Williams They got a C on one right side go inside the register let's finally end the there as Williams if they rebound he lost it here come the Vikings back the other way now are the Wildcats they had it with play right corner at the top two green now fouled for three Yes he rattled it and it stayed in check that about three quarters of the way to the ceiling in the coliseum to get it over the defensive player but he dropped it in Williams out front trouble with the defense of the Wildcats.
He finds a three pointer out of sequence on the shot there basketball to the Wildcats now crawling quickly across the timeline between two defenders Russell on the play.
Well I got to feel like uptempo game favors Wheeler Just a little bit.
Charles I think they've got a little more quickness, a little more depth.
Lakeside only used about seven players the other night and they really don't have much bench to go to.
The court picks up the foul that's his second and they can ill afford to get either he or Strickland in foul trouble.
I was talking to coach Gowan and he told me the other night Strickland and Burkhardt were both going for the blocked shot and when they did, the other team they were playing was getting a lot of awesome rebounds.
Jonesboro So you had told them just one guy, go for the block and somebody is coming in.
So some the other guy can clean up the rebound.
Taylor speaks on the floor now for the Vikings.
That's why he fires a three pointer that he missed.
Thought he had it all the way down now by Searcy and the Vikings register across the time on they trail by four and folks go and do something to slow it down.
Let's get a second left side here looking in at the blocks but cross before they go down let's speaks and speaks speaks for himself at the two points nicely executed Nice pass by Stricklin.
Their three point lead now for the Wildcats Left corner and on the move Now Russell is on the play Strickland got him with the hip as he's going around trying to stay under control.
When you run out there to get that guy in the corner.
Charles So Strickland picks up his second quarter running.
Coach Gowan may have to think about going some zone if he's going to have his big guys in foul trouble.
Three for three in the corner was Aaron and he dropped it.
Aaron was there on the file in the same spot, cleared himself on the inbounds play.
It was wide open and he hit the 555.50 lead over the Vikings.
This is our fourth stay here.
They got it on call the foul on Canal Green.
So the Vikings will inbound it the rest of their cylinder with less than a minute remaining to register looking in.
Got it for seriously in the corner let's call it handles our fun spins.
We saw the paint dishes down low at the blocks that were swatted.
The attempt by Jones was blocked comes clear to the Wildcats They're building left corner to Aaron Brown at the block.
Raheem Raheem inside across the floor he goes with the pass McRae leading in He missed family in the coat clears for the Vikings Nice defense there by lakeside to stop that inside bucket It comes back cold all the way through down at the block He got it on the lay and it's going boy they dodged the bullet there because Bako actually create an offensive foul but they didn't call it.
And Coach Lipscomb is a little limited over their three point lead.
Now for the Wildcats out front, Macrae handles a play for the last shot in the corner.
Coleman takes a turn off top bounce pass at the post.
The coach took it away.
It's loose in the backcourt, streaking for the Vikings.
It's registered.
Let's at the baseline whistles on the play that's got him on the inbound line so it goes back to the Wildcats with one second left I'm telling you Benkert is really playing dangerously.
He came over the back to knock that ball away at the buzzer This is it.
Got it.
Just tossed it up from back and it felt good.
Well, that's gonna happen.
We'll check it out.
We can get it on the replay.
This may be big for us here, Charles.
They confer.
We'll see what they get before we go to break.
They're talking about it.
And will they get the basket to them?
We're getting some different opinions here.
We'll tell you what the result is.
And at the time, I'm back with the second quarter after this.
Funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching TV bringing you the best.
You're watching the GHC boys and Girls basketball championships on TV.
As we start the second quarter.
This is how the first quarter ended for the Wildcats for main air and hoisting one from deep in the back court.
And that's where it ends.
Well, we couldn't see the shot clock.
There was only one second showing on the clock when he got that ball.
He took a dribble, but sometimes it's closer to 2 seconds.
You never know when there's just a second up there.
So anyhow, they counted it as 20 to 14.
Great first quarter, Charles.
And that was a fourth three pointer of the first quarter by Wheeler.
They went four of six, one of four for Lakeside from behind the Arc.
Lakeside is lucky they only gave him three on the road to do an emphatic double on that 183 one for three That's five of seven now for the Wildcats out front, three dropped it and it's a 2314 lead.
Vikings working it on offense Now register behind the back running jumper for the glass Nicely done from five feet away Nice control and Lakeside needed an answer then.
Charles, you had about a six or eight point run there by Wheeler but nice move by register inside.
So Crawley works it into the frontcourt for the Wildcats inside the paint.
They left him alone.
He left it short on the lay in rebound control down low by Jones.
But he had this stripped away.
It comes clear to the Wildcats Crawley left corner and has tapped out of bounds by the Vikings.
And right now excuse me Wheeler coming up with most of the loose balls and he scrambles Charles And sometimes the ball bounces your way and if that starts to happen, can really help out.
Wildcats to Crawley on the inbound play calls the defense now back out for three catch fakes pass the pope with the jump off the three point range this time in airball but it's tapped off the leg of register good hustling play by Tremaine Aaron Now he created his own break their hair ball was going out of bounds heads up played bounce it off of register so green left of the wildcat cylinder to inbound it out front He goes with the pass to Aaron Raymond didn't start but he sparked the Wildcats with that long three pointer to in the first quarter.
Still a tough man to man by Lakeside Crawley behind the arc for three on the left he fires and he shot it airborne So basketball back to the Vikings that'll be interesting to see when we see Strickland again with two fouls if coach Gowan decides to get him back in, I don't think he can go a whole quarter without Strickland in the ballgame.
Jones, at the time line for the Wildcats left side with the pass to register a coach to screen out front defense by the Wildcats register at a tap from behind by green Now register across the time line wants it the seriously right side seriously behind the arc where they're trying to work it at the post if they can they got it down low to speed up the floor to Jones and he's got the play and I was wondering if he was going to see him.
You figure Jones is about ready to holler.
I'm open.
So Jones with the two it's a 2318 wildcat lead.
They have it on the end of the floor.
Rahim behind the arc handles the basketball up top.
He goes to green.
All right, Sergeant Leland, guarded by a register.
Now at the block.
They give it on the turn here with the jumper he missed rebound snatched by Searcy and the Wildcats.
I'm impressed by both teams defense Charles.
They both can really sound fundamental.
De la cote working the left side in the paint kicks it back out so it's a suicide close to serious he's got it by Crawley up top to go to Jones at the post now and back out front the time line by Cohan I watch the five second call a cold penetrating left side dishes in the corner Now register on the move when he's had a good look.
Didn't put this in down speaks got the rebound now he's tied up inside the paint clears it again up again by the Wildcats now lets loose Crawley comes out of the park with it They make it You work for your money.
Charles Crawley had it tapped out by Jones and it'll stay with the Wildcats by six changes of possession in about 3 seconds.
One good thing for Lakeside, they really don't count on Strickland for scoring points.
He only averages eight points a game, although he is a part of their offense.
And if he gets on the offensive boards and he gets the alley oop.
So if they can stay close while he's on the bench, it's going to be big for Lakeside.
Shannon Payne back out on the floor for the Wildcats.
He replaces Robert Hill in the lineup.
Payne, to inbound it out front of Crawley, was tapped away and almost stolen by the rock by the Vikings.
Seriously, the tight defense on Crawley I'm not sure, but I'm betting 55.
Taylor speaks, plays a little football.
Pretty good guess here.
Not somebody who's wasted something Wildcats inbound if it do so to Aaron here on the right side on register pulls back behind the arm now over the pain left side in behind the arc has been reduced to Raheem on the move Raheem But the lead may have been fired by the pope and no foul foul called on it down low.
Basketball belongs to the Vikings.
Well, you're right.
They coach very aggressive, but great help there.
He left his man.
He saw that his teammate was getting beat, came over, got the hand up and forced the miss.
He's ahead.
He player Charles Torres substitution on the floor now for the Wildcats Richard McCray back out he replaces Tremaine and Everson Bay coach really shoot the outside shot if he's got a nice outside shot means he's full full player overall the code in the back court now getting pressure from that wildcat half court traffic Vikings over to register the three hit the back of the cylinder but the rebound comes through the Searcy Searcy from 12 he put it down nice job cleaning up the missed by Searcy a three point wheeler lead Now they have it in the front quarter Alley handles basketball in inside the paint nicely done by Crawley the Spencer falls good right with the left hand Of course he's left handed so I guess he would try to do this show go prowling.
He says he likes to drive and dish there.
He drove and he put it down on the and register out front for the Vikings.
Now whistles away from the basketball Crawley and seriously tie it up for Crawley that car Crawley trying to overplay a little bit anticipating the pass and held take a look at coach Love's going to have to sideline shaking his head in disagreement on the call.
So take a look at the field goals in the second quarter.
Will Wheeler two of seven Blake side but a better second quarter from the floor three of five now just in front of the Wheeler bench the Vikings will inbound it lead is five for the Wildcats register handles Hillman with the defensive assignment Roger still working the left side whistles on the play They're going to get Hillman through the closely guarding and register again.
They're trying to put pressure on register because he can certainly take it to the hoop.
A little overaggressive and of the cylinder, but it'll be the Vikings to inbound it register looking inside comes back out and sticks a three here out It had a good look that he missed way inside but fellow speaks back to the glass and he got the flip down for the Vikings showing some strength and great touch the big guy there three point wheeler lead left side they work it to McQuaid now down inside the paint Raheem for the glass leaning back he missed the coach tapped it at a tackle to the inside and the put back by Shannon Payne for Wheeler No room for this is under that bag.
Sorry you're out here at it.
You better have your mouthpiece in to the coat across the timeline.
It's a five point wildcat lead scarcely behind the arc back out to back to coast up top to speak speaks with the jumper 3/10 big rattled it but he missed space.
Time to show every dimension he's got this done the jumper there hanging back the other way for the Wildcats hello times reporter and yes the lefty drills it for the Wildcats.
Eight point lead for Wheeler.
Now coach Gowan trying to get Strickland back into the ballgame.
Buckley spins top of the key right side lost a double Got to get it up to they are to fire the paint it almost got it there rebounds cleared by Rahim outlet pass green green cross double inside to the glass and you talk about above the rim herb that's where it was right there for Cornell Green so leaky inside the paint Coach Cowan seen enough got to get a timeout and I believe Paul big coach got down and was working hard and he didn't even get back down the floor.
Looks like he's a little tired.
He's gone the whole game so far.
Charles And I think that then Ben Bench could be a factor in the second half.
Take a look at this replay now and a three pointer there.
Shannon Payne dropping it for the Wildcats had a real good luck.
Payne averaging 11 points per ballgame Got the triple there what you were talking about Vikings took the time out.
The lead now for the Wildcats of Wheeler is 1030.
I'm sure coach Gallant's down.
Well, we'll see him from here.
What?
He's coming to play now and go and get some loose balls and clean it up.
Yep.
I told you, the loose balls are going the way of the Wheeler team and five different players have hit threes for Wheeler in this ballgame.
That's great balance.
Ten point deficit for Lakeside Charles and you know, Coach Gowan would like to get that down into single digits, probably down to five or six points or even less before halftime.
So we'll be interested to see if he sticks with his man to man defense with his guys in foul trouble.
Now, Wheeler putting on some frontcourt pressure goes to Williams.
Williams guarded by the Cray as he comes across the timeline right side he works it to the post.
Green has that defensive assignment a coach inside the paint two players there.
It comes clear to Williams that he's tapped away but the register handles after for the break register between the legs inside the arc and pulls back out front.
We approached a two minute mark remaining in the first half solid defense by waiters stopping the penetration.
There's register on the move to the glass, couple of bodies in the paint but no foul ball.
Now Register got the rebound he was fouled on the put back Well I'm a little surprised they didn't call that an offensive foul that was pretty obvious.
Shannon Payne stepped in was waiting on register as he drove it to the hoop and it turns out Anthony Register is going to get two free throws.
Ref register on the season 19 points for the all game and as you indicated her 34% from behind the arc and 78% from the line coach lets him scratching his head over on that ball that is the first shot at the foul taking his hand.
Now he knows he had a big opportunity there with a ten point lead.
If he could have got the charge to go down and really have a solid lead, little things like that can change the course of the ballgame.
Charles Tremayne there and checks back in for the Wildcats.
He replaces Irving, drilled the second free throw around as he falls good for register and the Vikings 3224 Wildcats lead it They have the basketball green crowd the bounce pass it right side It was tapped out of bounds by the coach just trying to go low to Mohammed Abdul Rahim at the post.
Tough angle for that pass Charles, you're going to make that low post pass.
You need another couple of dribbles down towards the baseline.
That's right.
He has shots.
What if I quickly just check back in back the other way.
Vikings have a two on one at the block on the reverse.
And there it is by Nate Williams.
I think Stricklin blocked that shot with his elbow in a beautiful reverse shot by Nate Williams.
Williams on the reverse.
It's 30 to 26 wheeler with the lead and basketball around left side.
He walks it to Cain, hanging on the move, running jumper he could do no rattler falls off an arc the backside rebounds cleared.
Green bobcats with another look this time behind the arc.
It was a three point about pain off the mark ball saved first out of the floor by Allen off of the leg of register Well they're using register for a back four that's twice they've knock it off of him out of bounds and he's getting a little fed up with it and another time I'll take him with a minute.
Seven remaining in the first half.
This will be taken by coach Doug Lipscomb and the Wildcats.
Coach Lipscomb gave the official a pretty good earful over there a couple of minutes ago about as far as a high school coach will go.
But he was letting them know that you thought they missed that charging call and that was big for his team.
He has swung it to some degree.
They lead it now 30 to 46.
That point that that possible call was made or leading by ten with a chance to build on that and it's seven to go Charles and leg sides got it back down to six I know they'd like to cut it on down for a big possession here if we look and score here and get it back out it's going to put some pressure on Lakeside to come down.
In answer, Payne will inbound it far side of the floor looking inside now wants it up top two lane He'll walk left side spins inside the paint Nicely done you missed on a layup but a foul call and see who they got that on if it's a call the coach says third he's very aggressive in going for those blocked shots and it cost him that that little minute three remaining in the first half.
They will hope to get into the locker room but only two on the court on this On the first of two, Taylor speaks makes it back out on the floor for Lakeside he said for the second he missed them both battling first for the Vikings.
Now he gets it over to register, play with full court pressure on register under a minute remaining the lakeside home for one.
Well, no, he won't now, but that would have been my strategy right there, especially with Baker out of the game were going down in the corner to speaks but they threw it too far and out of bounds.
So Rahim takes a seat is replaced.
Oh interesting to see if Coach Lipscomb decides he's got enough of a lead unless he can put a couple more points up before the half.
Payne walks it right corner to green.
Now back up top.
They go to air and it looks like they are playing for the last shot here.
But if they can, I'll front McCray right on the floor.
Watch it right side the green with the pass.
Tough match up here for chuckles Strickland to try to stay with Cornell Green.
Oh they threw it away but they pick it up back side Nobody was looking for the Vikings right side.
McQuaid handles the basketball with it.
20 seconds remaining first and I believe I give green ball and let him play it out with Strickland Hill handles up front Good call there Herb Lee the pick up the foul there I got a basket they walk up left side I am afraid 8 seconds left Here comes green right side you'll fire I missed it back side speaks Got the rebound Somebody over his back two will go down to the other end Cornell Green is calling for the foul and coach flips them over They're calling for the foul Looked like Strickland might have got away with it got in the way with one I agree with you Herb and again it works in the favor of Lakeside as they're going to go to the free throw line again.
And Coach Lipscomb is not happy and I really can't blame him.
Kessler speaks of senior for the Vikings will go to the line 2 seconds remaining speaks on the season averaging 5.6 points.
Field goal percentage of 64 three rebounds per ballgame.
Kessler speaks at the line.
Fake shot at half rebound to Green Hoist one more.
He won't get a shot off before the buzzer at the intermission.
It's the Wheeler Wildcats, 32 and the Vikings of Lakeside 26.
Quick tempo, first half.
Now, if that's the way we stand at the break, 3226 Wildcats lead it.
Well, step aside for a timeout.
And back with more from the Macon Central class funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships on TBS.
And welcome back to Championship Weekend in Macon.
It's halftime of the 5158 Boys championship, which will are Legion 32 to 26 for the Wildcats enjoying the big halftime lead over the Vikings We'll take a timeout now and throw it downstairs to Rob trouble Rob.
Well Jim I'm flanked by two friends we'll start off with the Wheelers Principal Joe Bolen.
Doug Lipscomb blew me off at halftime.
He what?
He didn't want to talk to me.
He's a pretty intense guy, but you got to be proud of what he's done for your basketball program.
He is pretty intense, pretty focused.
I don't think he wants to stay in here in front of these strong lakeside fans and they drown out by them.
But he's always concentrating on the moment at hand.
He does a great job and there's a lot of basketball left tonight.
So talk about the support.
I see.
I don't know about three or 4000 wheeler t shirts.
Well, this go shows up pretty well, but our school is very proud and just proud to be part of Wheeler.
And so it's all about the cats and they're having a good time and glad to be here, But they're very supportive of basketball at Wheeler and everything else.
Talk about academics.
What do you have to be proud of at Wheeler?
Well, the most recent thing is our journalism department will go to New York City in a couple of weeks.
So They will receive some national award, but we'll see what it is.
But award winning journalism department and that's most recent.
Thing is we're very proud of them.
Hopefully they're not watching me because this is how you not do it.
I'm sure about that.
But congratulations right over here we have Lakeside Principal Randy Lee.
You guys have not you've never been here before as far as basketball goes.
And yet you get here with a first year head coach.
How is that possible?
Well, the kids have worked well.
We have an experienced team that came back and Coach Cohen kind of merged his philosophy with the style of our team and been very successful about it.
So we're excited to be here and hopefully the school turn around the second half and be much more competitive academically.
Some good things are going on at the DeKalb County School.
Tell me about that.
Yes, at Lakeside, our academic decathlon won state honors and this spring we're the smallest five day school in the state of Georgia.
But this spring we're going to administer 649 Advanced Placement Test with our student population.
Our national S.A.T.
average is above the national average, and we're doing an excellent job.
Our faculty and staff as tutors.
We're excited.
How can you do that?
I mean, that's not easy to pull that and inspire the kids that much.
How are your teachers able to do it?
Well, our teachers are a motivating factor.
Our parents, we have 1460 families in our school.
We have over 1000 adult members in our PTA.
The expectations are high.
We live up to it.
We're excited we know involvement is key.
All right.
Well, that's it from down here.
The principals jump back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Rob.
I just had two thoughts, Charles and Herb.
One first thought is I can't picture I-75 North for this game.
And number two, this is a fantastic game and it's going to be an unbelievable second half.
The jam is certainly shaping up to be that first half of that.
If that's any indication, we'll look forward to more.
Yeah, I knew Rob Trimble would get some principles one of these days.
Charles, let's take a look at some of the highlights.
And boy, there were a lot of them in that first half for both squads, but see if we could follow them from that first half of basketball.
They're on the move inside the paint.
That's register.
He's got the lay in there for the Vikings and back the other way.
The Wildcats.
That's Hillman on the easy lane on an invalid play for Wheeler now down at the block Raheem working Benkert and he missed it back side but look at the fight for the rebound It comes clear the pain and Payne got the putback four wheeler now back the other way register across the floor with the pass down the block There's that reverse lay and nicely done by Nate Williams looks even better the second time sure did mount back the other way Green for three up front.
Yes, he dropped it for the Wildcats.
Wildcats with a fine job of shooting from behind the arc in that first half.
As we take a look at some of the stats yard field goal percentage almost dead even.
Big difference.
Wheeler shooting on the three point shot six for ten, only one for six for lakeside free throws about even turnovers about even rebounds about even Charles So you know the three point shooting is really the difference in this ball game especially the 67 footer that was thrown in at the end of that first quarter drop trouble.
Now standing by it sideline the coach going for Lakeside.
No, Rob, what a foul coach.
Randy going coach.
These two teams are very evenly matched.
They play a slimmer type game.
First half very physical.
What can you do in the second half to get the lead?
Maybe win this thing?
We got to get it into the post a little bit more, run our offense a little bit better.
They're shooting six for ten from a three point line, which is pretty much knocking the lights out.
So we got to control that a little bit, get a little bit more hustle, got some loose balls that we should have gotten.
We've missed three layups.
That's really the difference in the game.
Taking the three quarter court shot and I right that we should be up we'll play hard.
We'll come out they'll play hard.
It's gonna be a battle in the second half.
They can't possibly maintain that three point shooting.
You're doing a good job of contesting and everything else.
Human human nature dictates they can't possibly keep that up Gimmick.
Well, I hope not.
I've seen us maintain stuff like that before.
I'll hopefully they'll go cold.
Well, see what happens.
All right.
Good luck in the second half.
It looks like Jack Nicholson flow for us.
We'll check it out after the break.
Rob will come back to start the third two 3226 Wildcats leading it.
Time out.
We'll come back to start the third quarter from the Macon Central.
Let's funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball championships is provided in part by the following you're watching member supported TV, your PBS station bringing you the best.
You're watching the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships on TV.
Two quarters remaining here in the Macon Central Plex to determine the five championships and then Balkanized divisions.
Charles Ward, Herb White here with the play, Paul Wheeler leading at 3226.
As we get set to start the third scratch, the Wheeler Wildcat mascot flirting with a technical foul there at halftime baiting the referees but conundrum for Coach Gower over there for Lakeside what does he do defensively as it goes on and try to protect his players in foul trouble or and open up some more three pointers I'm going to see right now right side of Searcy and register with seven each for Crawley and Green for Lila, Green with nine, Crawley with seven and Lakeside over the basketball on this possession stepped on the sideline.
Let's see what Lakeside opens up and defensively here got strictly with two fouls and Baker with three green weather for the Wildcats quickly into the letter from five he got at the ball and you see how Baker had to lay off there because he could not afford to pick it up.
But they did stay man to man CAC across the timeline.
Now with the basketball, they go alley oop, download a baker, they throw it too far and out of bounds.
So the Vikings not trampling on the inside.
Two turnovers to start the half Charles not the way coach going one to start this half wildcat Tilmon right side he goes the green with the pass green at the post now it's painted on the fake at home out of the rim it falls off Baker With the rebound pass down the floor to Williams.
Wallace slides in and you got the low end for the Vikings Tough angle for Williams to get to the lay end but he got it aggressive rebound by Boyko and got it out quickly There's a flashing Williams probably handles for the Wildcats now working left side trying to get it down little Raheem go up top of Payne and steady right side Hillman back up top to Shannon Payne now left side show for Crawley Crawley in the paint playing with the left hand.
He put the defense right in.
Lean back left for the lane.
Well, you got to figure he's going to come back with that left hand.
You got to play him that way back.
Oh cross dribble kicks it back out front for three Williams, rattles it and pops out of there.
Rebound comes clear to seriously but a whistle down low He was fouled boy seriously the senior took a hard fall there Heron for the rebound as you take a look at it on a replay Well that was a clean play he just got tangled up with shake goes Crawley there lost his footing and you take a look at the shot in the corner by Williams and again another angle on it and it's just as hard on the sexual replay.
Seriously.
Okay though, like sides got to try to get Strickland involved in the offense.
Charles.
I don't believe he scored maybe two but that's all and he hasn't seen the ball much inside the register handles out front at the moment register kind of a priest of the lane that was tapped from behind good defensive work by Payne Tillman has it up the floor a left side.
He goes to McRae.
McRae moves past inside the paint capella and he faked as though he was passing out front.
Williams went for the fake.
He had a clear lane, then for the Lay and for the Wildcats.
They lead at 3028 back to ten left corner for the Vikings.
Oh, what a vocal baker at the post to register Register on the move passed by the baker he missed.
Right.
He clears four wheeler dangerous.
Time now for Lakeside Charles They've got a ten point deficit Wheeler looking strong.
Wildcats have led by as many as ten chance here to take it to 12 green on the move inside the paint he lost it comes clear to the Vikings warriors had it going to get Cornell Green from the free throw out from behind That's his second It is indeed his second So the Vikings will keep the basketball?
No and down play up the floor.
They come to struggling on the job.
They give it to Williams.
Williams crosses in the paint for the glass he missed on the lane rebounds clear Cornell Green very a Viking inside on the offensive glass McCray right corner kicks it back up top the green screen on the left side to Hillman Auburn picked up working it right side all the way to the penitentiary.
Based at home, Hillman is working hard inside the paint, keeping the dribble foul on the crease forces a timeout by Coach Dolan's got to change his defense.
CHARLES What they're in right now is not working.
Wheeler is able to penetrate, take the ball inside again with those guys thinking about, well, we got two and three fouls they can't go for the blocked shots like they were before.
So in my opinion, I think go is going to have to go to some kind of a zone defense.
But then does Lakeside, I mean, then Wheeler can pull it out and just wait on him.
They got the 12 point lead.
So very difficult situation.
He's got to at least make the adjustment because right now they're forced to do something.
This is drawing up something a bit concerned.
Let's come out of that.
Bang, bang.
Okay.
Got it.
Got it, Got it.
I was going to ask you if they did pick it up and come back to the floor and we'll see.
Looks like he was drawing up something offensively.
They're probably for this trip down the floor.
They certainly could use a basket basketball Wildcats break the huddle.
They're showing four four pressure they really don't you know you got Bako is six six and Strickland is six eight.
How many times have we seen him get the ball in the low block in the ballgame?
Charles?
I never used Bako down there.
And Strickland, of course, has been in foul trouble, but they really don't try to work the ball down on the block.
Foul trouble may have taken Strickland out of his element.
Full court pressure by the Wildcats register floor.
They almost throw it away.
But it's a game by Corey Searcy Alley who backs off back home.
He missed on the dunk fight for his own rebound inside Got it to Strickland Strickland from three and he got it to fall Got a finger that's a technical break Coach hung on the rim and tried to hoop grabbing for the rebound while I was hanging on the rim and Coach Lipscomb feels the same way over there.
Pillman works for the right side too.
Abdul Rahim Now down at the block, they get it.
GREEN Mr. DeLay in the best case he missed on his lane.
Now back to the back side, a crazy shot short but he was fouled.
So they had three opportunities there.
The Wildcats did and they'll come to the lane and try to settle it.
There you see Green he missed on is put back in there Pains stayed on the rim for a second he missed and finally Macrae his shot was off but he was fouled like Payne might have got more prey than the lakeside player but they called it from the free throw.
Bama play is hard on the first ten point lead for the Wildcats.
They had led by as many as 12.
Trey, the junior with two points and two rebounds thus far.
Klay rattles the second and he got it full court pressure by the Wildcats.
They lead by 11 but coach Baylor's in the backcourt for the Vikings echoed across the timeline left side to register.
Now Register Trap goes across the floor with the pass to Williams inside the bucket for coach in traffic.
Abdul Rahim capped it.
It's loose on the floor and they got a travel violation called on McCoy.
It'll stay with the Vikings they coach got to look to score Charles he's always looking to pass the ball he should look to score especially now he's looking to pass off there and inside the paint.
Yep.
Left of the cylinder.
Now register to inbound it for 14.
Remains in the third register looking it over, forced to come back out front to strictly struggling to Williams Williams working the screen pass Hillman in the corner jump up and put airball backside rebounds carried about him Wildcats coming back the other way Tilmon across the time to the right side inside the paint for the center there he missed the rebound those two seriously Abdur-Rahim over his back and they'll get him for the foul both here you see the replay.
Hillman goes to the basket strong for a little guy, Abdul Rahim over the back.
Both teams have played man to man hard man to man the whole game.
Charles Nobody's even thought about his own yet.
That'll wear you out.
Basketballs loose on the floor on the inbound play jump ball call possession.
Harrell Give it to the Wildcats so the press by the Wildcat works there You know get the basketball close scoring in his third a lot of defense so Shannon Payne will inbound it I had a man right Abdul Rahim wide open under the basket and he got the lay and I don't think the Vikings were quite set on the transition there they thought they had the basketball and they never got into a defensive set.
And now we're seeing a 1 to 2 trapped by wheeler volumes up top right side he goes with the pass to seriously still drop back and the man to man fearlessly cross to the left side kicks it back to stretch but one up top the register Strickland never even took a look at that basket as well when he had it register out front.
18 points, the largest lead of the ball game for the Wildcats.
Russell's at a time I've taken back Coach.
Well, here we go again, Charles.
Everything on the perimeter for Lakeside.
I mean, register out there dribbling the ball around.
Strickland was out away from the basket.
Baker was out away the basket.
Got to find a way to get those big guys some shots in or around the paint use that size it they have both of those guys can get up in the air.
They both have nice touches and this ball game is not over, but they've got to get some good looks at the hoop.
But Leibsohn has got to be happy with what he's seen the last few trips down the floor because they have extended that Viking offense, as you indicate, way away from the basket.
309 remaining in the third quarter 4330 Wildcats leading the Vikings in the semifinal game I saw the other night, Stricklin must have had at least four or five Alley Oops Hasn't had one tonight yet.
After the timeout, S.O.S.
will inbound it for the Vikings just to outright fiercely inbounds the basketball to Williams Williams across the floor to the to the left side with the shovel pass to CSC back up top to the right side of Williams down in the corner Now register on the left parts of the glass and he got the basket explosive move by the left hander down the baseline there, Charles 4330 to 42 from registered Wildcat is back the other way McRae behind the arc Tillman to green green on the penetration right side on the toes all the way through Strickland tapped it in the air shot felt good will have the basket and the foul is called either on breakaway or Strickland Lane They got it on Strickland the coach kind of laid off here you see the replay it was after the shot to tough call but again Benko a good defensive player but Cornell Green is just too quick and too good an offensive player for Benko to be out there trying to guard him at the head the circle with those three fouls.
He just cannot play him aggressively enough green with 13 points, six rebounds, two of four from the line.
And Coach Lipscomb has got to light that up with the court out front there and Green taking advantage of a speed, maybe trying if they don't want to go to just a passive zone, maybe try some kind of halfcourt trap or something to get in that situation, as they must.
On the free throw basketball to the Vikings 233 remaining in the third quarter but coach run bounded but he faces wildcat full court pressure down in the corner he goes with the pass to Williams back to the coach quickly up the floor a left side CSC seriously take the three now try to give it on the run to Williams They throw it away.
Basketball over to McRae.
McRae slices two through two defenders over the green clean up corner for page came back to green on the move pass the coast inside he kicks it back out front for the Aaron now down in the air for Abdul Rahim for three Yes he got it for the Wildcats.
Well we were playing very relaxed now Charles I know they're in charge and and you get relaxed and you got to lead.
You can be a very tough opponent back court.
Now they come coming to the floor with a pass to register the left side.
The Vikings at the block register all the way through.
He missed on the lane fight for the rebound Now put it back to the cylinder He was fouled Well we got 9 minutes and 49 seconds left in this ballgame but you can already feel the panic starting to set in for this lakeside bunch and Wheeler seems to be settling in doing everything they need to do.
Anthony registering a senior for Lakeside will go to the line he'll be shooting to here and they need these nine points three rebounds on the evening give him time as he converts on the first Richard McRae back out on the floor for the Wildcats He replaces Abdul Rahim in the lineup register most of the offense coming from register in quarter what little there has been and that's going to be a big load for him to carry by himself register for the second quarter got him both ball are the Vikings now showing a half court trapped as Kane comes across the time line that they brought back out the right corner to go with the pass the blue green guarded by the cold up top he goes to hill Bill back to green on the move now left side on the coast to the cylinder by the bank that he missed by first all rebound after he lost but their backside Robert Hill with the tap and put back for the Wildcats to extend their lead the coach working in the front court for the Vikings now all the way through he's got to lay on the ball That's what he's got to do.
He's got some talent offensively.
He's got to use it now.
Charles Wildcats with it in the front court.
McRae on the move Green lays it in He left it short but there's the put back by hill he missed speaks clear that he lost it momentarily the basketball will stay with the Wildcats and a lot of he speaks are seriously guilty of the foul that they got seriously for that one scramble for the loose ball and he grabbed the wheeler player on the arm.
So Roderick Hill, a reservist for the Wildcats, drew the foul.
He's done a fine job coming off the bench, coming in, very active on the boards, Aaron to end, bounded left of the cylinder, forced to come in the corner with the pass to hill on the move dumps it down low that he missed on the lamb missed on a second tap rebounds play by register and the Vikings go back the other way less than a minute remains in the third register across the timeline they trailed by 14 down at the block speaks head fakes on him he's got the son of a shot fell off register with the line registered down at half court.
Couldn't quite tell what happened if he turned an ankle.
He is sitting there near midcourt and finally makes it up.
Forced to come to the Vikings bench.
He's not limping on the replay.
Let's see what he's paying.
Might have caught him in the sternum.
A forearm as he started to make his cut.
If you hit him in the right place there.
Yeah, that'll get you that Pressure points speaks on the night.
Four points and three rebounds and he gets a free throw.
They're big guys.
Shows a nice touch.
Remember that basket he made in the first half?
Off the glass?
Got a good looking free throw on him back into the Wildcat right now Shuffle Crawley speaks sets for the second All right leg scores here they want to come down and get the stop hopefully go in no more than 12 down for the fourth quarter.
5038 with less than a minute minute remaining out of trouble.
Left sideline indicating that he took a shot to the stomach.
That's what put the register down.
But he's back up now.
You're ready to come back in May, wait until the fourth to get him back on the floor, though Wildcats threw the basketball away just in front of their bench, I think was last great opportunity here for Lakeside to cut this thing to maybe under double digits if they get the three, but within ten, which would be psychologically big.
Absolutely.
Plan stages when you're trailing back the other way Williams running jumper from ten Got it.
Take a look at the turnovers lead over five Lakeside with nine as Wildcats have it in the back court It's a ten point wildcat lead green on the move in the paint He lost it Well says and so they'll get him for the offensive foul at shoot at three on Cornell Green also four point possible swing here another shot at it by lakeside 6 seconds plenty of time to Get up and get a shot here Charles This could be a huge lift for Lakeside if they can score here.
Certainly in the back four to the coast.
The coach got to get up to the four 3 seconds now to get it down.
Three point effort by 60.
Now he had to look at it and hit the senator, spins for a minute and pops out.
That brings us to the end of the third ten point lead for the Wildcats.
We'll be back start the fourth after this.
Funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships on TBS.
One team has never won a58 title, other one won in 1994.
The winner of this one is will get the title this year.
Wheeler, 50.
Lakeside, 40.
As we start the fourth.
Well, we just saw the biggest missed shot of the game Charles at last three pointer if that goes.
The lakeside fans would have gone nuts, but nobody's leaving this one.
It's anybody's ballgame.
Still with the first possession here, let's see what they can come up with in the back door.
Register a slowly into the front.
And now we learn.
Looks like they're going into a zone.
Yep.
They're going to pack it in one, three, one.
Seriously, behind the arc for three?
Yes.
Searcy was the guy who missed it at the end of the third, but here he it on a triple to start the fourth.
Seven point wildcat lead and Abdur-Rahim handles up front for Wheeler now over the pain paid to Crawley guarded by a register running jumper from ten by Farley off the line rebound for four they had it but he lost it It's loose on the floor Crawley it inside the paint lost it Now Payne's got it Goodness if they scrap for it all the inside, it'll stay with the Wildcats.
I think only two players didn't get in on that scrum.
Charles body is over the.
You see Crawley had it and lost it.
Payne took it away and there was a foul called inside of Crawley trying to tough shots and let's look at the free throw at the foul situation They got Strickland with three H Crawley Green with three H but back on Strickland are the big guys and you don't want them in foul trouble Maybe they can play the rest of the way.
Well I was about to say Herb now with three fouls would go into the fourth.
Does that allow you to relax a little bit psychologically?
That's a play on fourth quarter with two fouls, but not really because once you pick up that fourth, Charles, you're right back to nature.
The way you play up to the line, fights it up hard over speaks and he got to lay down for the Wildcats.
So every time the Vikings threaten the Wildcats answer Williams Across the time line for Lakeside, he they have gone into a23 zone hit the block speaks on Abdul Rahim to the glass he banked but he missed It'll stay.
No they say it'll belong to the Wildcats, I believe was off speaks and they're going to speak to do a little more than he's probably used to doing, especially against the quality of opponent that he's facing here.
They try to get him to score.
I Think Bacos is going to have to take some of the offensive load?
As we've been saying, Charles you know, speaks is a is a nice player but he's not an offensive player inside.
Nice call on that her on the basketball belongs to the Wildcats a foul was called on the inbounds play as Jerome Jones checks in to the Viking lineup He replaces Nate Williams and in fact, I've got to get Strickland back in there pretty quickly.
He hasn't been a factor so far, but he's still one of your five starters and got to get into the forum at least.
Now handling in the back four for the Wildcats across the time line bounce low reverse leaning by green but he missed beats cares about backside off the floor He goes with the pass the seriously seriously right side at the block jumper for ten left at short rebound plus both picked up in the paint by Jones Jones at the first and three yes 50 to 45 after Jerome Jones is too in the paint Wildcats leading and Crowley shaking backing to the glass shot rejected by Baker.
But it comes clear the pain and he'll get the play and Earl Carroll is going to get under control.
He's trying to do a little too much with the lead they have now.
Back to work.
The bright side for the Vikings now all the way through how to tap on the penetration whistles on the play.
They might have got green.
I don't know if they did.
That's his fourth, I believe it was on green.
Yes.
When Al Green picked up his four.
Here comes Strickland back into the ball game for Lakeside.
Cordell Green is going to have a seat.
The elements falling in place for Lakeside at this point they can get something out of Strickland on the return here.
Yeah Green departs with four three big free throws here Charles nine point lead Lake side's got to convert every time they have an opportunity all day coach so they missed on the front end rebounds clear by Crawley and the Wildcats Huge miss there you talk them out of it her 6 minutes remaining on the left side Abdulrahim toward the blocked register closes at the baseline out front calling out cold left side in the paint It was tacklers the defense of course this is very cold.
Up the floor he slips and loses it to Crowley.
They got a four on to Foley Abdul Rahim left side missed on the lane he was fouled hard by Jerome Jones Mohamed Abdul Rahim to the line for the Wildcats.
Well big swing and fortune there Bako trying to dribble between three players.
I think he's getting a little fatigue Charles he's gone just about every minute of this ball game and well, that was a big turnaround.
They had a two on one.
Now Abdul Rahim goes to the line for a couple senior to shoot and I lost them to a justice of Harrell before he does it ten points on the night for Abdul Rahim Lakeside has gone into it like a131 trap trying to create some things and they got the turnover.
Unfortunately, they couldn't convert or he missed his the first Yeah he Paco's going to get a blow I think down coach go and saw it.
Go and saw it as well.
He's he's breathing pretty hard Dora.
He got off three from the line for the Wildcats.
Imagine he'll be back in the five before the five minute mark goes.
It's going to get a little blown.
Oh he's got a second.
He missed on the second as well.
Strickland clears for the Vikings up to Jones and Odysseus's siesta are crossed across the floor to register register into the forecourt now trapped at the sideline, picks it up the floor to Jones.
Jones right side back to register on a register for three missed back side Jones guys he misses on the rebound Hillman clears for the Wildcats show Crawley working out on the back for the Wildcats now on to the four coaching the five minute mark Miles Crawley hops inside the party lost it It's clear register picks it up for the while for the Vikings and the Vikings back the other way That's Crawley again turnover that's two out of his last four trips down Vikings have simply got to convert that last shot by register was more of a hoax right Oh what a terrible turnover right there.
Williams threw it away and on the transition the Vikings commit the foul I think fatigue setting in a little bit on Lakeside Charles that was a tired pass attempt right there and I think that the lack of really a good strong bench is going to maybe tell a tale here.
Bako Back onto the floor for the Vikings.
He replaces Jerome Jones.
So they cut on Strickland out on the floor for the Vikings.
As McCoy goes to the line for the Wildcats, three points, three rebounds.
Well, Payne almost pulled it off end in that position with his players sitting in the special court him at the last moment.
So I'll just stay here and if they don't catch me, we'll go that way.
That's a senior for you.
Rodrick Hill on the Floor replaces Shannon Payne, Brave, the junior to shoot.
They got the first lead.
Now it's back to Teddy for the Wildcats.
I mean Oh boy.
Pray for the second.
The two got them both full court pressure by Wheeler now seriously handles in the back court over to the coast to coast pushes it into the full court left side now down on the corner Williams for three hit the front of the cylinder.
Rebounds cleared by Crawley Crawley quickly up the floor between three defenders and he was fouled Luckily for the Wildcat an interesting strategy by coach Lipscomb over there Go into the pressure defense now Charles he's not really trying to get the steal at this stage of the game.
He's just trying to make Lakeside use up more time because time is the enemy right here with 430 to go and you're down 11 in the winners, 10th year at Wheeler High School as Jerome Jones comes back onto the floor for the Vikings coming one one behind Bilko Crawley shooting one and one all missed on the front end but the rebound backside on the put back by Roderick Hill he'll beat Strickland to the block and he got delay and no excuse for that at six 810 man come over your back and get the rebound Make it into the front four for the Vikings now rocking it right side now to register down on the corner so this is the three the raptor falls out of that shadow spinner comes out basketball to the Wildcats Lakeside had their share of them ran out of there tonight Charles three of four of their threes have come out really that's about their only hope at this stage of the game is to get a few threes in a row.
Foul was called on Jerome Jones and the Wildcats headed back to the line with 407 remaining.
They may have weathered the storm here.
Four or seven left Vikings around to really push it to get back in it one more foul.
And also we know what they're shooting the automatic double play once again, shooting.
They got the first 5945.
We've only just won their last state title 1994.
You know, Marietta is going to be sitting there watching this one saying, well, here's the team We beat twice thinking what happened was the Vikings.
That's the short answer.
As McCray sets for the second, he got it but cold in the backcourt as the pressure by the Wildcats, they get it in play A coach at the sidelines just in front of us bounces into the floor.
He bounced up right on the inbound line.
Turnover gives it back to the Wildcats.
Coach Lipscomb looking like a genius right there.
Excellent move.
Charles.
Is creating some turnovers using clock, everything going his way right now.
He's going to be in the double bonus on the next foul and coach going to go for some last minute strategy.
4 minutes remaining 6245 Wildcats lead it.

Love that show after the timeout McRae to inbound it foul situation Williams now for Lakeside it for Strickland with three wheeler Scott Green with four and Crawley with three All catch with Crawley off from the left side He walks off with the pass to McRae McRae up by Jones They call him out walking near the time line Monterey Cross double inside the paint all the way through to the last shot was rejected.
Bobcats touch it last out of bounds.
Vikings have the basketball and a lot of time off the clock though Charles that's big at this stage absolutely back court now seriously trapper area here over to Jones now to the coach as he heads across the timeline the coach stops behind the arc had a lane there but didn't take it left sock serious he fires a three pointer from way downtown he missed backside rebound those two register and Tilmon was up under him with the hit register go to the line shoot a one on one nice call Herb absolutely right register will shoot it feel like to see Baker after he gives that ball up out front Nice job bring it across but he's got to get down around the paint somewhere.
Charles Good position to score largest with 11 points on the night and three rebounds 319 remaining.
Well we have a break for the free throws.
Herb, once again, a pleasure working with you.
We'll get to do it once a year for this.
Always fun.
Certainly is.
I was just thinking about today.
Tony Aikens played his last game for Georgia Tech.
Seems like yesterday, Charles, We were out here watching him much.
Let's run up and down this floor and be in a great high school game.
Now He's already played for years.
Absolutely.
If you go back that far, I'll tell you what, you're absolutely right.
My friend Coach going will have both of his big guys back next year, though.
Benko and Strickland, both junior, so on the wing players and guards that go with him, he'll be right back at it again.
And nothing like coming to the dance at least wants to find out what it's like.
Maybe next year you get a little more seasoning under your belt.
A lot of teams that we've seen this year come through have been here before, vowing to not lose again.
And several of them came through and won it.
There's a lot to be said for that experience even on the it you say that's not a big thing.
It's just basketball.
But when you get into a forum like this certainly changes or affects your basketball belongs to the Wildcats.
One of the free throws was good.
Wildcats got a man streaking down the floor the pass complete the McCray he goes at the victor was touching it up he slot at the shot but he commits the foul that's for but look like he got mostly ball there Charles but they're going to give the foul so he picks up his fourth and Irving Hillman goes to the line Strickland pretty much a non-factor in this ballgame he said so much got the early fouls here we'll see it again he can really get up in there may have got him with the body a little I guess, up top and over the rim.
It was all clear Tillman to shoot for Coleman without the first 314 remains.
And Nate Williams checks back into the Viking lineup.
Tillman on the night 5.1 rebounds he's received well we talked about Gwinnett County girls basketball the greater Atlanta Trials with Jeff Morrow and Jonesboro and Lakeside.
And we learn there's some great teams from the greater Atlanta area this year in boys basketball at the club that capital of basketball.
As far as serious, he wants it right corner to Williams he wants the three he left a short rebound cleared by hill he was tied up got it to Crowley and Kahler faces a trap in the back court simply dribbles out of it.
He heads into the floor left side, down in the corner.
Go up, Junior.
He's back up top the falling right side of Hillman.
Hillman in the paint, Abdul Rahim on the move at the baseline, and he got the lane and he threw the ball and was a big nail right there.
Charles A three point play going to make it a 17 point lead going for 18 and to 44, almost an impossible task for the lakeside Vikings.
Wildcats are spreading the floor to run the time you see they're on the penetration They got it to Abdul Rahim nice step at the baseline and the lay in and draws the foul He'll go to the line 12 points, six rebounds and one block on the night for Abdul Rahim.
Something else a little odd this year Charles no Albany teams and we're really used to seeing those Albany teams out here just about every year.
Right Abdul Rahim converts on the three point play into the from court register takes a tumble They lost a lot of skin right there off that elbow they call the foul on Hillman 241 remaining.
And I know Coach Gowan, as you mentioned, will go back and realize some of the things that maybe he could have changed coming into this ball game.
And again, your first time here, first year coach, a lot of things to learn.
Take a look at coach going out the sideline triple indicating he looks like Jack Nicholson.
Jack Nicholson, I believe he was able to clear that up with Rob.
It looks more like Jack Nicholson to be next on the put back for coach for the Vikings on the inside he got it You need to examine Rob's eyes either way.
Do either one of us into the front court Curly with Curly with the alley oop.
But they messed on it.
But Coach striking back the other way for Lakeside with the stuff for the Vikings and making a lot of run here with 215 remaining across the time line.
Craig McRae Inside the arc and back out front downtown it's a block to Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahim shots blocked by Strickland Strickland and he blocked it.
Tough luck though ball out of bounds to Wheeler very, very difficult to come behind from behind when the other team is quicker than you Charles and Wheeler does have an edge in the quickness here.
Also Lex has got to be fatigued by now.
On the replay they went man to man and Strickland got the rejection on Abdul Rahim.
But the Wildcats keep it probably up front.
Guarded by Williams and what he had to.
McRae Well back up top to Fowler they went for the steal Williams picked him Williams left side he stumbled down the basketball belongs to the Wildcats and no call the lakeside fans can't believe it.
Well had to be a trip on that one Charles My goodness Williams helped up off the deck, proudly looking up, knowing he got away with one.
There.
The fans from Lakeside.
Yeah, we're getting some ice thrown on the floor, which is very unfortunate.
A little bit of everything as a time outs him out on the floor.
That is not what you want to see in terms of fan support.
Some of it has garnered lakeside fans, as I say, some debris on the floor, a couple of hues of ice right here in front of us.
It was like they had a circle.
I'm guaranteeing you could tear an anterior cruciate ligament stepping on a piece out there and end somebody's career.
And we can understand the frustration of the fans from Lakeside.
A minute 50 left in the ballgame.
This is the first lakeside training at 64 to 50.
I always thought like, boy, these guys come out skates, go and look at it and tell them.
And now all we got to do is play for five.
Still not totally out of it, but at the back of it, they want to make sure they finish strong at least.
Well, the non-call there was big 14 points a minute 50 if we if Lakeside could have scored there and cut it to 12.
Still almost impossible, but that would really hurt.
So the Wildcats will have the basketball abdur-rahim to inbound it.
Full court pressure by the Vikings.
Well, all cats beat it with a pass up the floor.
Macrae Previously, as they continue to clean up the birdie and they're making some progress, right?
Hey, Abdul Rahim looking up the floor forced inbound and in the back four to green He's got the four fouls Abdul Rahim handles now gets it over to Hillman Hillman across the time line working right side green back up to Abdul Rahim now back over to McRae McRae inside the arc and his way back out front finally fouled by four He says he a minute 33 left and McRae will go to the line for all pats by 14 Gray rattles first three West little too much balance.
We are very very well balanced and senior basketball team Charles and that told the story tonight they had three or four or five offensive players that score and once Strickland got in foul trouble I was going to make this up real from the lakeside all the way McRae best on both free throws and rebound comes clear to Strickland and now Register handles in the back court threw it up the floor but he threw it away.
Abdul Rahim with the steal he threw at the green.
Was it lucky And it goes out of bounds and back.
The Vikings.
So the black Vikings still with some breath remaining CFC far side of the Florida inbound it in the back court whistle on the play Crawley was pushed and he slid it in to register and he commits to foul Well coach that's competitive one anybody stopping that clock now for any reason now a minute 20 seconds away from the state championship you got to give it to the lakeside faithful Charles.
They've stayed here throughout even with their team down the whole fourth quarter.
They're still over there behind them.
Register to shoot Senior.
The lakeside rattles the first and is out of the fall.
Jerome Jones back out onto the floor for the Vikings.
He replaces Bradley Strickland in the lineup register with 13 points now make it 14 Abdul Rahim to inbound it for the Wildcats threw it over to Payne hanging across the time line down in the corner to green.
He passed the three just under the bus lane basketballs loose Tillman's got it possession arrow will go to that that favors the Wildcats so the Vikings could draw a break anywhere in that 11 remaining Wildcats retaining to inbound It does so in the corner the bowl up front looking back toward the time line bounce pass in front of us as pain heroes.
A double team over the Hildy Tillman inside the arc back out front.
He goes to college less than a minute to lose.
He finally fouled out front by Nate Williams.
Well, Charles has had a little bit of everything all weekend.
We've had some teams come in to extend dynasties like Wilkinson County with their third in four years, Collins Hill with back to back championships.
We also saw Cross Keys Boys win a first ever championship last night.
So congratulations to all the winners and all the teams that competed down here in Macon this week.
It's been super and I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of these teams back next year and of course up here, some other teams coming in and get an opportunity.
A.J., you'll be right there to cover it right on top of it, as Nate Williams files out, he gets a hug from Coach Randy Go and the coach go.
And just in his first year at that lakeside program, got him here all the way to the finals.
So the direction is only up for the Vikings as Payne goes to the line, seven points and four rebounds on the night so some repeat champions this year and some first timers think Taylor County won also back to back championships.
If I'm not mistaken, Payne got the first and I'm sure we'll be reviewing that later on as Payne comes up big with both free throws.
6652 less than a minute remains a coach across the time line Scoots all the way inside the paint.
Nice pass from behind the back but Stricklin not able to collect it and it goes over to the Wildcats right up the cylinder Abdul Rahim to inbound it it's off balance.
Had to force it inbounds and he threw it away.
And Strickland and Baker never really able to get in sync.
Tonight, as I mentioned, they had four or five plays between them with each other the other night.
I can remember them combining for a basket tonight.
It was absolutely essential to have them in sync to even just be contending in this ball.
That's exactly what they want.
Even close to that tonight, the Vikings trying inbound play but they for a foul was called a struggling moderator on when al Green fouls out of the game but not a factor now in the parks but after the damage has been done yeah the ad man will be playing some ball the next level no doubt about it.
Fine athlete, good all around basketball player.
You talk about the production of Strickland and the coat there is Bradley on the night just two points he just never got off to tonight Charles he got that early foul trouble, went to the bench, maybe got cold stiff, got out of the ballgame mentally, whatever.
But it certainly has not helped Lakeside.
But they got to something.
He got to second to fall 6653.
Abdul Rahim with the basketball up the floor to him and right corner Tillman fouled five strictly Strickland picks up his fifth and they close the book on Bradley for the night just a junior and he will be back next year but he leaves the ball game and only three points tonight for the Vikings.
Well they haven't asked him good at the block.
I won't tell if you don't Charles see it how he's a family friend and everything.
Oh, he departs Bradley.
Such an honest young man.
He'll probably take himself out.
But didn't do.
He speaks on the floor for the Vikings, replacing Bradley strictly Tillman to the line for the Wildcats.
Tillman five points and one rebound.
It's such a sparkplug for the Wildcats Kept tying it up a couple of times down on the floor with some of the bigger players inside the paint.
Yeah, he's fearless.
Taking it to the basket.
Charles gets up off the floor nice piece of film and gets the first free throw.
So we are high school and now finally be able to quiet the folks who've been talking so much about the Mariota program this year.
Not a whole lot more you can say if they actually win the five eight chicken.
Look.
Yeah, probably been tough for him in Cobb County but into this season they're going be the ones on top of the bragging rights 6853 and register fire three pointer for the Vikings off the mark gets wrapped around Abdul Rahim clears for the Wildcats speaks commits to final with 25 seconds remaining.
I know Ewing is trying to get that Mariota is trying to get another year of eligibility to come back.
I believe Ellis is graduating this year, so he is going to lose some of their players as well.
Maybe make some room from some of those other Cobb County teams.
And now we're going to have some wholesale substitution.
Some of the scrubs get their chance at fame and glory in the last 25 seconds in the state championship.
Charles They can say I was there.
Yes, sir.
All of the players.
So Wheeler will be coming out there for the free throws by Abdul Rahim.
Got to give a thanks to all our crack crew, man.
The camera people always on top of the situation, providing us with those instant replays.
And again, Frank Malloy with the stats and tomatoes and Doug and all the guys in the truck technician It's just been a wonderful weekend.
Everything's gone smoothly for him out here.
I don't know how it's to track.
There's a difference here, but it sure has looked good out here.
Jim did not here of Rob traveled John Nelson, everybody that worked on the sidelines.
Phil Proctor it's just been a great weekend.
A good collective effort once again by JP TV and a good collective effort by Doug Lipski and his Wildcats.
Yes, sir.
All the starters to the sideline now and Abdul Rahim after the free throws.
He will have that way, but he misses on the free throw basketballs over to the Vikings.
23 seconds remains off the floor as Howell for the Vikings fires a 380 missed Abdul Rahim collecting stats Now how is he got another rebound off the floor and he throw it away Vikings pushing it back the other way to the glass shot rejected Sure took the shot but there's a put back and they've got basket that low.
You got to be careful at this stage of the game because the officials aren't going to call anything off.
And there it is, a final buzzer and there are your five states hams on the floor are being swarmed by their faithful swarm wheeler.
The Wildcats win at 6950 558 state champs so the 2001 2002 season, they did it in 94 and they do it again here this year 6955 over Lakeside well deserved.
And I'll tell you, that must have been a pretty good narrative to be able to whip this crowd twice.
But they came on, hung in there and got the state championship.
Let's go to Rob.
Trouble with that winning coach Got the winning head coach.
Coach Lipscomb, what a great effort.
Defensively, Lakeside is a very athletic team, but they seem to be out of sorts all night thanks to your presence.
Well, first of all, say hello to my mother and grandmother in Gainesville.
I want to thank you.
I do it for him for helping us this year.
Harry Rand and also Desmond Eastman Knicks.
Thank we the fans, for the sport this year.
And then we kept the pressure on them all night.
I'm sorry, I got a little distracted.
We kept the press on because we didn't want them to get into their rhythm of their game.
And that's the bring it up execute.
And they do a good job of that.
What about the fact Marietta got the hype and the publicity all year?
You enjoy that.
You guys kind of snuck under the radar to a certain extent.
Well, like I've said all year long, we can't worry about other people's publicity because we still have to do what we have to do.
Well, congratulations on the state championship.
Number two, go celebrate with your troops and good luck next year.
All right.
Get back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Rob.
And there you see it really wins it, 6955.
We want to thank everyone here in Macon for their hospitality, including Michael Junot, Adrian Collier, Terry Fahy and the entire staff here at the Macon Center plex.
