The final game here in the Georgia High School Association's football championships.
It will be Colquitt County against Brookwood.
We say hello and good evening and welcome to our prime time coverage of high school football here in the great state of Georgia.
And we have a great football game setting the stage here as we conclude what has been a great 48 hours here in downtown Atlanta and the Georgia Dome.
And for the call of the five, a state championship game in primetime here on the great GPB.
Let's head upstairs to the man who will call tonight's game.
Dave Gardner and Harper LaBelle.
Gentlemen, good evening and have a great call.
And good evening.
Game.
We want to thank you and welcome to the five state championship right there alongside my broadcast.
Partner, Harper LaBelle.
Former Atlanta Falcon and Harper, two teams here in the five eight title game that took different paths to get here.
But nonetheless, they're in this championship.
Well, it doesn't matter to me if you take the surface streets, the highway, or if you're in the diamond lane.
The main goal is to get here to the Georgia Dome.
And both of these teams have earned that honor tonight.
Let's talk about the Colquitt County Packers now.
A lot of folks may say Colquitt, but if you ask the locals, it's Colquitt.
And that's what I'm going with here tonight.
I don't want to get in trouble.
But regardless of how you pronounce it, Harper, they have an explosive offense.
39 points a game, Dave, is what they're averaging on offense.
And they lead the way with Tyler Brown, their quarterback.
He's done an outstanding job all season long of getting the ball to the open receivers and letting them do their thing.
He understands this offense and he runs it, but the guy who runs within this offense, well, that's Tevin King, number 22, has done a fantastic job all season long of getting the ball to the line of scrimmage and then to the next level to where he can score on any virtual play.
If I'm wrong, any of the coaches on the staff, I'm doing a great job if I've got these two hard working, talented career record breakers on my team.
Speaking of Coach Rush probes entering his third year at the helm for Colquitt County, we caught up with Coach Crouch to get his game plan tonight and what we can expect from the Packers.
Will offensively we've we've been pretty balanced all year where we're a football team obviously spread football team that believes in growing it and running it about equal time.
And you know you'll see a kid that in Tyler Brown that's fun for over 3000 yards you see a running back that's approaching the 2000 yard mark and you'll see another running back, approaching the thousand yard mark.
And then you'll see a wide receiver that's called 91 balls over a thousand yards in receptions.
So it's an offense that is really played well all year long he they just saw the ball is is on the other hand is not been as good in recent past.
We we're in we're in a situation last year in the semifinals and got beat I came in and wait for the dome and thought our defense played well all year and they have a lot of stories coming back.
So they've just been through a lot.
But the last two weeks you seem to have come and play very well.
And obviously, you know as well as I do play in this time of year, if you play better this time of year, you win ballgames.
And it's about winning ballgames in November and December to win a state championship.
Coach Groves speaking up his 200th career win last week in the semifinals against Grayson.
All right, Harper, let's talk about Brookwood here.
The Broncos, of course, open their season right here in the Georgia Dome with a win over Walton.
They hope to end it tonight in the dome with the state championship.
Traditionally, when I think of Brookwood, I think of run first and then run second.
But now they've got a quarterback in Ben McLain, who has done an outstanding job of enhancing this offense and making it even better than what you would normally think from a traditional running team makes it very difficult for anybody to defend against a team that has this double threat.
But speaking to defense, you don't need to look any further than Cameron Lynch.
Here's a guy that I call it all Compass Player East and west, sideline to sideline north and south.
He gets into the backfield and he can also drop back and do things in coverage that Mark Cruise and the rest of the defensive staff puts together a great group of guys.
If they play a wonderful game tonight, they could go home with the state championship.
Absolutely.
Coach Mark Kruse in his ninth season as head coach.
Here's what we can expect tonight from the Broncos.
Oil on offense.
Brookwood is a multiple offense.
We have a full back most of the time that leads for our tailback offset to give us a strength in the eye.
Primarily we we try to run the football this year.
We're a whole lot more balanced than we have been in the past few years.
We can also get in a spread formation as well sometimes when we need to.
On defense, we are a base four three team.
We've sort of developed into maybe a little bit more of a35 team because we play so many spread teams, so we take tackles out and put defensive backs and linebackers in in their plays.
Coach Mark Crews 20.
Four years overall.
At Brookwood has done a remarkable job.
Well, right now, let's meet the man in the trenches for our broadcast team here tonight.
Our very own Jon Nelson is standing by on the sideline with more on this when Jon.
Good evening, dave to you and Harper.
Let's talk about copper county.
They had a rough start to their season starting out on three losing to cook giving up 65 points.
The perennial power of South Panola and Mississippi and then losing to Thomas County Central in overtime.
They rebound from their finish.
Five and five come in as a three seed.
They could be the third five loss team to win a title if they win here in week 15.
Tonight, Brooklyn, they've been here before.
They're no strangers to playing in a championship game, but they're trying to reverse the fortunes of their last two, where they were outscored by Lions and Parkview by a total of 77 to 14 guys.
Four down, one to go.
This one should be a good one.
All right.
There you go.
Thanks, Jon.
Look forward to talking to you throughout the night as we get set for kickoff and throw it back down to Gil Tyree from GPB Sports Central.
Let's rock and roll.
All right, gentlemen, thank you.
And Dave, Jon and Harper set the table for what should be a dynamite football game here in the Georgia Dome.
Under the big top, our final game of what has been a great 48 hours, the five eight state title game, Brookwood and Colquitt.
Straight ahead here on the great GPB and GPB, dawg.
Let's get started.
Yeah, let's get started.
Let's get it started.
Here, here.
Blues control a body of soul So moved too Basketball Just take us through.
Don't get ahead.
Saturday Night Football fever inside the Georgia Dome as we welcome you to the five.
A state class football championship.
Colquitt County Packers taking on the Brookwood Broncos, a nine in five against a 13 and one, but nonetheless the third meeting between the two as we get set to rock and roll.
Of course, Brooklyn winning the previous two meetings back in 97 and 98.
One of those, of course, taking place right here in the Georgia Dome.
So the third meeting between the two here tonight and this third meeting, Harper, is for the title.
I couldn't be more excited right now.
This is a great game.
The atmosphere you got really all of Colquitt County's here and most of Gwinnett.
Great crowd and we're ready to go.
Eric Yang well, booted away an outstanding kicker who puts a lot of his kickoffs in the end zone.
And this one will reach the end zone as well as Devante Ridley went back deep for it.
And we'll see the Colquitt County Packers take it at the 20.
They have an outstanding quarterback here, Tyler Brown, who has led the way for the offense this year.
The Packers, of course, with five losses during the regular season, but have really poured it on here in the playoffs.
Of course, winning all four, only one of those games at home.
They're going to look at Brown's numbers this year.
Very impressive, closing in on 6000 passing yards and 42 touchdowns.
Brown is a senior.
He'll go to work.
We'll take a look at the rest of the Packers offense in a moment.
First and ten from the 20 man in motion.
That is the tight end who moves in at this point, I Smith another man in motion.
It's a good move and it's brown going to swing it out into the short flat there.
And a first down to Trey Cooper, who already has a catch in this ballgame.
Cooper will be one guy that Colquitt will count on here tonight.
They're going to look at the offensive line.
Bryce Giddens flanked by Brewer and right of the guards, Ward and Mobley.
The tackles in there, Big King Ridley, Little Smith and Hudson, the backs and receivers.
And there are some record breakers on this team that we'll talk about later.
First offense brings it out.
First touch of the night for Tevin King.
He's going to have seven yards up close to the 30.
Nine yard line.
And a big play right there on first down it.
Tell you what, this team is going to hurry up here a lot tonight and what they do offensively.
They like to throw those quick little screens out to the flat.
Dave They do it quite often and when they're successful like this, they keep the sticks moving.
They're going to do it all night.
Game seven on first down second and three.
Here's Brown firing across the middle has a man that's Courtney Smith into Brookwood Territory and down at the 42 so a big catch right there by the junior tight end 540 Smith who has his first receptions tonight.
And that's a big one right there.
Big drag right over the middle and gets open, gets in between the linebackers in the secondary.
Yes, you're right.
That's a big first down to get him down to the 40 to.
Nick Moore with the stock nine interceptions on the year for Moore.
We'll talk a little bit more about him throughout the night here as well.
Meanwhile, Colquitt again and that spread offense will not take a lot of time between snaps.
They'll be on the ball, going to swing it out to King.
Once again, 40, 35.
Watch out inside the 30 still driving finally.
Wrestled down by Nick Tompkins, who is playing defense here tonight.
But a big gain in a first down once again by the Packers who keep it moving on their opening drive.
Third time out of four plays that they've gone with this little swing route, get it to the back in the flat and let's see what he does and tell Brookwood defense that they're going to keep doing it.
And this is an offense that's averaged 39 points a game in the postseason, 35.5 during the regular season.
Big hole.
That's Ridley with his first touch of the night.
Number 23 to Monte Ridley, tackled by Nick Moore.
But now before Ridley got loose with the secondary and that's going to be close to another first down.
Nice mix up there where they've been passing.
And when you think that they are, they're going to go right up the middle.
Quick little trap.
Ridley gets another first down, a real close to it.
He's only a few inches away.
Ridley, a guy that's somewhat overshadowed because of the success of Tevin King.
But here's Ridley with another carry, and he will have the first down on second and short, just shy of the 15.
Connor Hennessey with the stop for Brooke.
What are you going to look at?
The Bronco defensive lineup, Galbreath Davis and Grant Blankenship across the front again, Hennesy Maples, in which the linebackers of their excellent before deep secondary features Parris Moore, Jackson, The Sims the Georgia college for one starting lineup.
Here to look at Ridley he's got some room.
And he was one tackle away Harper.
For taking it into the end zone Nick Moore has already made three or four tackles on this drive of that time.
He saved a touchdown.
Yeah.
Nick Moore is an all county player who's really had to answer the call right now with a big tackle there to save a touchdown and a great another offensive move.
They're just churning and getting it going right now.
Second down and four here is King.
He's in the middle of first down, driving towards the end zone and going to be spotted just shy of the line.
Nick Moore, guess who once again with a stop, but not before King was able to pick up the first down.
It's first and goal packers.
Their speed is pretty impressive you can see that.
But it's the offensive line that's creating plays where these backers aren't the backs aren't even getting touched until they get three, four, seven yards down the field.
But the defense has faced a lot of spread offenses this year.
In fact, Colquitt represents the ninth team and now with the jumbo package in here, that's hardly number 33.
He steps into the T formation.
Brown takes a snap straight.
Ahead over the top touchdown.
Damien Bentley.
Bentley And for the first time tonight on short yardage.
Dives over.
The top and into the end zone for a score Great athletic move by.
Bentley you watch here there's a big surge He just jumps over everybody in the pile.
Cameron Lynch couldn't get him until he was already two yards in the end zone.
Nice touchdown for the Packers to put them up early in the ballgame.
So here is Rich Tyndall, 47 of 50 on Pats this year and he knocks it right through there 916 left here in the opening quarter and Baldwin County takes the opening drive and goes 80.
Yards.
Capped by a one yard touchdown run by Davion Bentley.
And what a start for this nine and five Packer team carrying the banner for South Georgia here tonight.
They've very impressive first drive Dave.
No doubt that they're trying to score as much and as often as they possibly can, especially against Brookwood.
He's still trying to figure out what they can do.
The big disadvantage for Brookwood is they haven't seen this team a whole lot except for just a few game films and maybe talk to some other coaches in the area so they'll make some adjustments on defense.
But pretty soon it'll be their turn to see what they can do on offense.
You know, Harper talked about the fact that Brookwood only allows 15 points a game defensively.
They played a lot of spread teams this year, but there was obviously something that forward did on that drive that confused them a little bit.
As you see the scoring drive right there, nine plays, 80 yards to 44 off the block.
Bentley, of course, with the one yard run there you see him right there.
All smiles there early Oscar Altoona handles the kickoff duties for Colquitt County.
It's a high but relatively short pick, but it'll be taken after 15.
And this one right here is by Cole, a thousand yard rusher on the year as he takes it up across the 20 to about the 25.
And that is where Brookwood will start their first offensive possession.
There you look at senior Ben McClain, 135 to 25 this year, well over 2000 yards, 16 touchdowns against ten interceptions.
And of course, he is one of those players that we'll talk about that's basically grown up with this program ever since he was a youth.
His that, of course, has been an assistant for 19 years at Brookwood and McClain has been an excellent field general this year for that Bronco offense.
Most of Tennessee 22, and they'll hand it to Thompkins.
He's got all kinds of real estate.
Watch out, Nick Thompkins midfield in the Packer territory it's shoved out of bounds at the 39.
Wow.
Trey Scott pushed them out but not before a big game, I guess.
Brookwood answered the phone.
They said, hello.
We can do it.
Two guys, we can put the ball way down the field.
We're going to run it right on you.
And he wasn't touched until he literally stepped out of bounds when Trey Cooper was able to get him right there for a huge game for big Thompkins and the Brooklyn Broncos.
Another look right here.
Thompkins embracing into the territory.
We might be in for a shootout here tonight, which is certainly not the style of play that Brookwood plays.
But they have been involved in a couple of shootout matches this year, and they've won them the first and ten.
We'll take a look at the Broncos starters in the moment, which is the near side.
That's Fortner, the fullback, who really paves the way for Thompkins with an eye formation.
And once again, Thompkins with who breaks a tackle 25 and down to the 23, he goes, Trey Scott may have saved a touchdown.
Great job by the offensive line Dave of staying on their guy.
They had a man on who had told them Thompkins got, what, eight, nine yards?
And then he met Trey Scott in the backfield there for another first down great job by the line and we've seen both offensive lines do well so far tonight.
But Thompkins isn't a very big guy listed at five, not £165.
He's just a junior.
But you see his numbers on the year well over 1700 yards.
But first, they have 2000 yard rushers on this team.
And THOMPKINS And Jamaal Cole, who we saw on the kickoff return.
And we'll get a lot of a lot of number 23 and 32 here tonight in room first and ten at the Packer 23 this time.
Thompkins West Side driving down to the 15.
And so far, Harper It's pretty much been all Thompkins on this drive.
Well, would you want to give it to anybody else when you get results like that?
Right now, so far, so good.
They're going to look at the lineup there in Bonamia Graves, Hale, Ledford and Russell across the front Tompkins, Faulkner, Sims, Bonner and Gouge in the Backfield Gouge.
Of course, the tight end is also a good athlete in there as well.
Are in the fourth college 411 starting line throw inside 8 minutes here this opening quarter both teams have had the football wants Brookwood continuing with their opening drive and trying to answer the bell here right off the bat in this first quarter and a drop way they'll keep it on the ground of Thompkins who will push it forward on second down and two he got three of the first down.
You're going to look at the Packer defense, Daniel Smith, Jackson and Arnold across the front.
Very talented Hunt, Moore and Gray make a lot of tackles and Davis Newsome Scott Blackwell you're for deep secondary for the Hood County Packers out of region three the third seed and as John mentioned in the pre game not a lot of free seeds have made it this far.
But this Packer program has done an excellent job.
The first to reach the final 699.
Here's Tompkins tripped up at the 11.
Dives down to the seven that was Rich Underwood number 51 making the stop defensively.
Cockell was out with determining which side was there strong with Sean Hunt when in motion late there and was when they were once sort what guys short on the strong side of the ball where Nick Tompkins was able to gain a couple extra yards because of that but a good move by him what's he averaging five six yards a carry here so far in this drive.
Broncos averaging 37 and a half points in these playoffs three points better than their season average so they a breeze right through and here a second down and six left side driving.
Tomkins dives into the end zone Touchdown.
Terrific surge again day by the offensive line Everybody get the hat on.
The guy making sure they stay with them long enough so nobody is able to touch.
Nick can tell in this case.
He's at about the two yard line.
Make contact with him he dies forward gets across one point away from tying this ballgame up.
That's what you call answering the bell right there, Harper, a true north versus south matchup here tonight, the state of Georgia.
As Eric Yang attempts to tie this ballgame up at the 643 mark of the opening quarter, come out of the hole.
Daryl Falconer the kick is away and it's good.
Eric Yang has been excellent this year.
643 time out of the field.
We'll take a quick timeout.
You're watching the New Jersey State five, a class championship class five championship on GPB, Colquitt County and Brookwood tied at seven apiece, both teams with one drive and both teams with touchdowns.
Harper LaBelle again joining me here in the booth.
And Harper, to tell you what, that's an excellent start offensively for both of these programs.
Yeah.
Don't don't get any popcorn or go to the bathroom or anything.
It's an unbelievable series of action here.
How quickly that they're doing this.
Six plays in the time of possession is what gets me in the 73 yard drive, 2 minutes, 33 seconds.
That's pretty unfamiliar with Brooklyn territory but they'll take it.
It's a touchdown in it counts.
Well, here is Eric Yang again, who all booted away for the Broncos as he did on the opening kickoff.
And this one is also going to reach the end zone.
Coach Rush probes didn't expect too many kickoff returns here tonight by his Packer team, seeing as Howard Yang is consistently, he put him across the goal line throughout the season.
He's so explosive, Dave.
He just only takes three steps, but he gets everything that what a great inertia three step kick or putting it over 76 yards in the end of the end zone just about every other time.
It's a great strength to have and a real reliability that makes it easy to to coach special teams.
So now we'll see the Packers on their second offensive series.
Again, they graduated 13 players last year off of this team that received college scholarships.
They've got another handful of players this year that'll be playing on Saturdays and they'll open and that's brought offense with trips to the near side.
Again, kicking the lone back.
It's a big offensive line that features some good grade point average is Giddens the center with a perfect 4.0 GPA this year.
Here's Brown under a little bit of pressure escapes throws a pass He's got his tight end out there Smith but throws it wide second down Good pressure there by the Broncos.
Yeah REESE Blankenship gets free here at the very end, right when Brown is ready to release the ball, you'll see that he gets just in his grill.
So second and ten this time, the Packers will put him up top on the screen there.
Again, two backs this time Brown once again out of the game.
They'll keep it on the ground and driving up across the 20, that's Devonte Ridley.
But has the door closed only of after about a yard gain this bronco defense now forces a third and long.
Let's go downstairs.
John Nelson, what do you got?
Well, Dave, I know I'm going to have to talk pick quickly when it comes to this particular offense, record breaking year for Tyler Brown.
He broke three records including season passing yards.
He's got a 70% efficiency rating when it comes to this offense this year.
Absolutely remarkable when you take a look at his numbers.
He is indeed the school record holder in several different categories.
Passing yards, career touchdowns, season touchdowns.
Here's brown loading up, firing deep in the flag.
Once again, he has his tight end Smith up across the 35 and all the way up to the 37.
And that's a first down.
That's a pickup of about 15 or so on third and nine.
Excellent patience by Tyler to stay in the pocket.
Don't do anything let these guys get open.
Ty.
Ty Smith wasn't available and open early in that route, but by the time he got rid of the ball, he comes up with the first down completion.
Here is a quick handoff right here.
Tevin King gets the carry up across the 40 to about the 40 to a gain of about four.
Close to five yards on first down.
This is a very quick hitting offense, as you mentioned, Harper.
And, you know, they don't take a lot of time between snaps like throw it in the air that can keep it on the ground, do a little bit of everything.
Here's one of the flak.
That's Octavius Little and he's got the grab for first down into Brookwood Territory.
Jawad Ferris with the tackle and Little with his first reception of the night.
Again, the five one £190 senior.
So basketball player Octavius, this is his first year playing football.
And I know they want to keep him out there as long as they can, but he's a senior and he'll be on the hardcourts in no time after this ballgame.
Well, I'm sure they're missing him right now, but obviously the Packer basketball coaches certainly would like to have the football team bring a state championship.
Little miscommunication right there.
And Tyler Brown is ate up all the way back in his own 45.
Connor Hennessey came shooting through there and blew it up.
As you see right here, there's a little misdirect there.
They bumped into each other and Tyler did a good job of just minimizing your losses.
You take your chances and you're going to line up and it's going to be third now second excuse me, in about a long 14 to go.
They're going to look at Hennessey 113 tackles this year, two picks the guy overshadowed somewhat by Cameron Lynch.
But nonetheless, that defense goes the way Hennessey goes.
Usually on every Friday.
Night is brown loading up, scrambling, looking downfield and.
We'll just have to tuck it and run a great coverage downfield by that Brookwood Secondary and Jordan Ferris with the a stop right there and maybe a gain of a couple.
That's it.
It will be third along now.
Well that's a coverage sack.
He he gained a yard so really it doesn't count as one but boy I'm telling you what great job in the secondary there, just playing a zone and they're just in their area.
Brookwood was and Tyler Brown couldn't find anybody that was open.
So he took the best route of action there and that's just great.
Gain a yard or do whatever you can here and set up for third down.
Well, Harper, it's been a very opportunistic defense as well for Brookwood this year.
Nick Moore, of course, with those nine picks, six of them in the playoffs.
And these are some guys that fly around the football for a third and 12 under 4 minutes to play in the opening quarter Brown and got hit as he let that one go Big pressure right there by maples number 36/1 time it caught him here tonight how was that?
Now that was Lynch number 38 who came shoot through there as he does often.
Wow, what a great move on the offensive guard that he was able to swim around him.
You get to the quarterback and make a big play right there on third down.
That's what Brookwood basically what their defense is designed to do.
They didn't do it in the first drive, but they saw a little bit of film.
Got to talk a little bit.
And this was a pretty productive stop here.
If I'm Brookwood.
Went with 170 tackles this year, has a couple of school records himself and now Tanner White will punt it away as the Packers line up the formation of the Brookwood 48 of In Pull Back Deep.
We call it the fair catch signal at the 16 as well.

Good.
The game is being broadcast to high def this year, folks, and also as part of GPB and GPB scored first down at ten is the Broncos make a stop defensively to take back over and boy oh boy hello Snoop Arnold number 31 who came shooting through there.
It's the Ryan Arnold.
He goes by Snoop and man, oh, man, not much room there at all on that play.
Wow.
Thompkins met right as he took the handoff from McClain.
Not too sneaky when you don't get block, but I'm going to tell you what.
Snoop did a great job of just anticipating what was going to happen there.
They've been giving it to Nick Tompkins all game long, so let's go in and make a big play.
And he sure did there for about a four yard loss.
Well, this defense isn't very big, Harper.
Again, they only average about £170 or so across the board on defense.
But they are very quick and they have certainly improved and hit stride throughout this postseason.
Here's a quick toss to Tomkins trying to turn the corner.
It won't get there, though.
Knocked out of bounds after a short game.
Nice pursuit by the Packers defensively.
Yeah another good job by De Ryan Arnold to be on his feet knocked down and get popped right up and able to push Thompkins as close to out of bounds as he can that's that's just basic football from when you first put the pads on, you have somebody cut your legs out from underneath you and you got to pop up and go make a big play.
Nice job.
All 73 yards gain on that last drive by Nick Tompkins, who carried the load for Brookwood on that scoring drive.
So here's to 55 left in the opening quarter seven seven ball game in this five eight state championship between now faced with a third and eight pass of time, now under pressure, gets it away into the middle of the field.
It's caught by Tompkins and it's going to be awfully close to the first down marker.
Looks like he might be just a little bit shy here, a.
Little under route that we see the Tompkins runs there and was able to get about 12 of those yards back, but they needed 13.
They're a little shy right there.
It looks they're probably going to measure here.
Brookwood Would scored 40 plus points seven times this year that seven times in 14 games this season.
Just to kind of tell you how explosive their offense is here tonight.
And we expected possibly a shootout with the way the Packers have been giving up points this season.
But nonetheless, who knows?
And he is going to be shy the few inches there.
But hey, ball at the 26 right here.
And you see Coach Cruz thinking about it.
He's sending McClane back in along with the rest of the offensive guys.
Here we go.
Coach Mike Crews again, 24 years overall at Brooklyn, a product of youth.
Chattanooga, 60, succeeded.
Dave Hunter, who was there from 87.1, is also joining us on the field here tonight is one of our GPB analyst for this championship weekend.
Packers are bringing in some of their bigger guys on defense to try to plug up and stop anything going wedging into the middle.
What's the heart count right here once again, full house backfield going to shift some linemen around right here down to the tight end moves over Looks like they'll have a delay a game but like Brooklyn to just trying to make a jump off side here.
Yeah it's still a little too early in this championship game to take a risk like that false start, especially on the offense.
Five yard penalty, fourth down, but.
That's a designed play.
You saw the synchronicity, if you will, like a little ballet where you get the guards move in and then everybody else shifts over.
And it was specifically designed to get somebody to jump and cross into the neutral zone.
It didn't work on that occasion.
So now Nick More will punt it away more again, the outstanding defensive back, but also handles the punting duties back deep is Tevin King.
The return, the kick.
A little bit of a pressure right here.
Good rush.
MOORE Got it out of there.
KING will let it bounce and we'll take a look at roll inside the 40 down to the 37.
So off to ten left here in the opening quarter.
It's still a seven, seven ballgame and both offenses have scored.
Both defenses have now made a stop.
It's a stalemate so far.
HARPER Yeah.
You start thinking that this is going to be a track meet and then both defenses kind of settle down a little bit.
And the offense is try to do something a little different than they did in their first drive and they weren't nearly as successful.
Now we're going to settle down into a regular championship football game.
And we'll look at Coach Rush probes, of course, five class, six state titles as the head coach of Hoover, Alabama.
The coach of the Alabama Mississippi All Star Game is both an offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator and a head coach.
And now his offense will go back to work.
Tyler Brown out of the shotgun, snap rolling, going to dump it out to King, trying to make one man miss and we'll have about four yards out first down Cameron Lynch flies side to side, north, southeast, west.
You've got a pretty good description of the kind of player he is.
I think he's an all compass player.
He does everything.
He goes in any direction and you got to have some wheels if you're going to try to catch somebody.
That's as fast as Tevin King on that play.
Great pursuit.
And he's going to be playing on Saturdays here pretty soon.
He's a Syracuse commit.
That one ruled incomplete.
Trey Cooper the intended target.
Remember Cooper had a catch on that opening Packer drive that resulted in points but was unable to haul that pass.
And for Brown, they're third and six now, of course, the Packers making the third trip to the finals course they lost in 91 to Lagrange.
They won it 94 over Valdosta.
Here they are tonight against Brookwood, a team that Coach Brooks modeled his program after.
More on that a little bit later on as well.
The first is third and six under pressure.
Brown will go down back to the 32.
Carter Hennessey came off the edge and brought down Brown's throw off.
Well, Hennessey couldn't have got it.
Better jump on the ball.
He was moving around at right just the right time when the ball was snapped and his momentum takes him right in to Tyler Brown.
Look how quick he's there.
Tyler didn't even have a chance to get his feet set and he's dropped for another sack tonight for Brookwood.
Maples, number 36, also there as well, applying the pressure got a good.
Hit.
On Brown and so now fourth down and Tanner White will come on again to punt to see it from field angle all kinds of pressure there from Brookwood Andre Sims back deep along with Jamaal Cole, both with their heels planted at the 30 fake.
He's a fake.
Trying to make it happen.
They will have the first down.
There is a flag down back at the 35.
That's Damien.
Bailey who scored the touchdown.
On the Packers opening drive.
But let's check the penalty.
I don't think Brookwood is offside.
So there may.
Have been somebody who was not lined up correctly for Colquitt, but that's just it's too early to tell right.
Now.
Well, Coach Propst saying declined the penalty, thinking it's against Brookwood, but it's against the Packers, though.
And so the fake part is off or not well designed, well executed, but it's coming back.
Great idea here.
Good hole there.
That was created by Rashawn Hunt there on special teams.
Pretty simple to go through that.
Formation all the offense only six on the line of scrimmage.
Fourth down can have enough guys up there.
But now Connor White will come out and probably punt it for real ball at the 29 once again Cole and Sims back deep against Simms a michigan state commit Oh hi snap it gets away and he will eat it at the five Will Tanner eyeball still loose and it look like Wyatt was able to get back on it but it will be first and goal Broncos from just inside the four and that's a tough break for the Packers.
Snap is a little high above his shoulders but he was or above his head you see right here, it just slips out of his hands.
Does the best thing they can right now with such amazing speed there of those guys on special teams, it looked like Brandon Salmon was the closest one to him to prevent them from losing any more first and goal from the four.
So that's a big play, the first big play of the night or mistake, if you will.
And now the Broncos are knocking on the door.
One play.
Thompkins back into the middle.
That's Jamaal Cole.
Touchdown Jamaal Cole into the end zone with a touch Did a great job of.
Reading his blockers Paul a thousand yard back as well And he has his first.
Touchdown of the night and the Broncos have their first lead.
Double trouble for Brookwood two guys that can score and now each one of them has scored here in the state championship game tonight.
The Broncos making their fifth trip to the finals.
They were there in 88, won it 96, and it fell just shy of two in oh five.
But are back here in 2000 Ted and Eric Yanga to try to add the pats and make it a full seven point lead and he will do so 20 seconds left here in the opening quarter.
And it's a 14 seven point lead in this five state championship game.
Let's take another look at it right here.
We see some of the Colquitt defenders weren't set yet.
They weren't really down in the three point stance.
And that happens usually it's advantage offense and in that case it results in a quick score one play drive for yards touchdown puts ahead.
Now Broncos also showing they're able to play a little up tempo here as well.
You can look at the Bronco marching band in the house here tonight, of course, will be treated to a battle of the bands at halftime here.
As part of our live coverage on GPB, we appreciate all our viewers and sponsors for being on board throughout this entire championship weekend.
They're going to look at Cole, just a sophomore.
Already a.
Thousand yard.
Rusher.
And if a coach Cruz, you got to be pleased knowing that Thompkins is a junior and you're other thousand yard rusher as a sophomore.
Yeah, that makes you sleep well at night, Dave.
You won't have any problems at all knowing that literally more than half of your offense is coming back again next year.
So great job up front, though, by that offensive line.
Hale again, the center, Ledford Graves.
Fussell All those guys who are an excellent job up front there, they averaged £241.
So here it is, the kick off once again by Yanga.
This one going to be about ten yards deep in the end zone.
I think Ridley is more or less going to become a spectator on those kick offs here tonight, it looks like.
Yeah, it's a shame because we want to see what he can do.
But Eric thing isn't going to provide us with the opportunity to do so if he keeps putting the boot in at that point that you see him over there on the sidelines, he has a lot of enthusiasm.
He's a soccer player, first year, first year as senior year.
We'll tell that story a little bit later on.
But what a great thrill for this young man.
So now it's Colquitt County who goes back to work.
They call them the hogs.
That's their mascot.
And they are hogs upfront, averaging 200 and almost £80.
And right ahead here, it's straight ahead to Tevin King, who takes it up across the 25 through the 28 gain of about eight yards on first down on the quick header.
Great line surge by the offense.
He got some big boys up front.
Bryce Giddens, one of those guys, he's about six feet to seven.
He can bench over £380.
I'm going to be blown down.
It looks like we got the end of the quarter, but we're not able to get a play off there.
But it's a great ballgame here.
At 14 seven, we'll step aside.
Be right back there watching the 2010 GHC State Football Championships live on GPB, the Brooklyn Broncos lead the clock with County Packers 14 seven.
As we get set for the start of quarter.
Number two here live inside the Georgia Dome, the class five state title game, Dave Garner alongside Harper LaBelle.
Jon Nelson to the sideline here tonight lands in park.
Through the only.
Number seeds to win titles in the highest classification in Georgia and the Packers trying to become the third team to do that if they could win here tonight but right now they trailed seventh they open the quarter with the football on second down at short.
That's Devonte Ridley who will have the first down up across the 35 to about 36 and a half.
Harper Good first quarter all the way around.
Lots of action both offenses getting it done on the opening drive both defense and step up late in the quarter.
Yeah good surges by both offenses to get the ball in the end zone and then some corrections on defense kind of stalled that out a little bit.
Here is King trying to create some space right here that's Ridley actually he's got another big game now.
How about De Monte Ridley?
Wow.
He's just shy of a thousand yards and south.
Come this season, Colquitt nearly has another one, 2000 yards of themselves like Brookwood does.
Yeah, they're a pick your poison type offense with the running game.
Either one of these guys is going to be a tough guy to bring down.
And in many cases for Monte really has done an excellent job when he carries the ball and would be a starter if it weren't for Tevin King being in front of him.
And Ridley will get a breather King back into the lineup, they're going to look at Ridley on the season 777 yards and over five yard average.
It's pretty good.
Seven touchdowns to go along with it.
And we're going to measure we'll talk about some of the short right there, the the the trifecta, if you will, the three record holders off of that's a Colquitt team there.
And Tyler King, Tevin King excuse me in Rushing, we've talked about all the different things that he has there.
Of course, scoring career touchdowns, season touchdowns, game touchdowns, season yards, game yards.
He is basically the record holder there, 376 yards rushing against MLK and round two.
Truly remarkable.
That was a school record.
Is that.
All?
That's all he's got.
But 19 of them was.
John talked about Tyler Brown a little bit of his numbers.
We haven't seen a lot yet of Tommy Hudson, who's a school record receiver.
I was sitting on the carry second and short.
He will have the first down and much more.
And Brookwood Territory in a market at the 48.
It looks like Coach Propst and the offensive coordination is let's run this ball up the middle and see what we can have happen here.
Three, four attempts of all resulted in some big plays.
Trick hitter out in the flat that's complete to Tommy Hudson.
We're just talking about I guess they hurt us up here.
That's Hudson's first catch of the night.
And actually, it broke a little bit of a ball below his thumb practice earlier in the week.
On Monday, they had to fit him for a cast, a little bit of a special cast there.
Fits like a glove that he's in here and playing tonight.
Could folks very emphatic about the fact that we would indeed see Tommy Hudson here is Ridley with another carry back into the lineup second down and short picks up a couple to be third down at about four.
They're going to look at Ridley, who is certainly had a big first half here already.
It looks like, Brooke, with kind of loaded the inside with instead of five or six, they put about eight guys in the box that time.
It kind of slowed down this inner tackle running game.
The Coke that's been doing here, this drive.
Tyler Brown going to swing it out here on third down first down inside the 35, Tevin King was tripped up by Jordan Ferris.
Otherwise he might have had more room.
First pitch that we've seen from Tyler Brown.
And boy, soon as Tevin King gets it, watch him turn on the Jets.
Boom.
He gets upfield in a hurry.
Now he's tackled, but not until after he picks up the first down and more.
Got into that next level right there.
Indeed, the Brooklyn defense has pitched two shutouts this year.
Not going to happen here tonight, nonetheless.
So they've been tough.
Here is another one out to Hudson makes the grab fight for what he can again Hudson the school receiving leader and season receptions with 91 career receptions 101 game yards had 197 against Grayson in the semifinals.
He's also second in school history in game receptions and career yards.
Coach Propst, with the play card in there, quickly gets it in another quick snap right here King hit and minimal gain right there.
Maybe a yard or two is about it here.
RAMIREZ Galbreath was able to get through the line of scrimmage by a yard or two, but see the spinning moves that Tevin King has.
He's very elusive, guys.
He he does this all the time where he's so difficult to tackle.
The Bears had him for a one yard loss, and then it turns out to be about a three or four yard gain from that play.
And you see Ramirez Galbreath, third down here, third and five brown under pressure, trying to set up a screen that was nearly intercepted right there by Carlos Granados, who knocked it down.
And boy, he was about a about a step away from picking that one off.
Yeah.
Great read by to see that it was going to be a screen while three guys end up getting through.
He gets on Kevin's back and just says, Look, I'm going to deflect it just like a basketball player.
Make sure that he doesn't get that pass.
Well, Tindall's got a leg, but maybe not that much at home.
This part of the field, Harper, you're kind of in that in-between yardage.
Fourth and five, too close to pot, too far away to kick it.
So coach props to call play ball at the 29 Jim Brown out of the shotgun in that spread looking fire He has a man that's complete and out of bounds floater Smith number 80 the tight end with another grab and that one's for a first down right at the 20.
Yeah he just runs up the sideline catches the ball about eight yards up the field.
He's such a big target.
He's six foot three.
He's looking possibly to go to Florida here next year.
But great job by that tight end with another big catch.
Quick snap.
Packers will keep it on the ground.
That's King breaks a tackle still on his feet.
Ten and down to the eight he goes.
And what a run right there by number 22 who look like he was hemmed in but was able to create space.
Yeah, he's able to get in and out and slither to the inside and outside.
He uses the sideline to his vantage there.
And you did another great play and they're right on the ball again.
That's what they want to do.
Coach Probst was just furious that the guy's not getting on the ball quick enough.
More and Maples with the stop.
This time Ridley into the five stays on his feet great footwork dives into the end zone for the score How about that de Monte.
Ridley the senior with the touchdown.
Terrific balance there at about the 65 yard line to be able to swing inside and out and then get from the five and just get right into the end zone and extend.
That's a pretty looking play.
That'll be a great picture for him, but more importantly, it's going to be a score that gets him within one of tying this ball game up.
His tempo for the Pats, 47 out of 50 coming into this game and he puts it right through there.
So with 840 left here in quarter number two, we're all tied up at 14 apiece.
And so far, Harper, it's everything we thought and hoped it would be.
Yeah, this is an exciting ballgame.
Like I said, don't leave your seats, folks.
14, 14, all with 840.
In all previous games, all of them had some great things that have taken place in these different classifications of the championships, and this promises to be no less interesting.
A great game, of course, in the triple play matchup prior to the kickoff here tonight between Sandy Creek and Carroll did it for 23.52.
No, you're going to look at the score drive.
30 plays, another 80 yard drive and just 340 off the clock, really, of course, with the eight yard touchdown run, the Packers even lined up.
Quick to kick it off.
They don't waste any time doing anything.
Do this.
No, they probably eat quick.
Down there and call Cook County.
They do everything fast.
And that's just part of what you got to do there to play a good, aggressive and competitive football.
Bluto will kick it off one more time.
Jamal Cole Back Deep.
This one is returnable from the 15 ball to the 20 as the 25 it up ended at the 2728.
Ronnie Caldwell with the tackle there on special teams and now we'll see the Brookwood offense once again.
Semifinalist, a 97 and 98/1, Ben McLain right there.
A three year starter was four years old when Brookwood won the title back in 96.
And he remembers that, of course, a lot of these kids have been in the Brookwood program, have basically they're children of the program.
Nick Moore, three, four years old, wasn't was a ball boy for the OTU in oh five title teams.
And so a lot of these kids have grown up around Brookwood football.
Yeah, it's a great honor to be a part of that and be a part of the tradition and live forever with these guys.
Here is McLain firing at such a quick release?
Alex once complete to the tight end that's gouge up across the 40 to the 42 that this is a Brookwood team as you and I talked Harper they don't throw the football when they have to they throw it when they want to.
Yeah.
In that case, look out gouge runs a quick little under route.
Nobody went with him.
He was able to get the first down.
Throw the ball at the 42 in this offensive line.
As we talked about, it's been solid this year, averaging about £240.
LEDFORD Six 4 to 15.
But you got.
FUSSELL Up to 85 from Amy up 60 to 75.
All right.
Now we've got a marker down, Coach Crews, Region eight, coach of the Year, four times head ball false start on the offense five yard penalty first down back him up 5/1 and 15 They're going to look at coach crews name for the Atlanta touchdown club five eight coach of the year honors this year certainly been an excellent year for Brookwood who enters the game at 13 and one that lone loss coming in week three to take Shula 2414.
But since then they've rattled off 11 straight and find themselves right here in the Georgia Dome where they started the season playing for a state championship.
Hard to find someone more deserving of the award than Mark Kruse.
He's been a great coach for a long, long time.
A playing look at the throw again under pressure, gets rid of it in a hurry.
That one nearly.
Caught the nearly intercepted and then it falls incomplete gouged the intended target and Stacy Blackwell got his hands on it.
This is not a very big secondary.
HARPER And you would think that Kirkwood might try to pick on Ivan.
Now, let's go ahead and hit it on down the sideline here real quick.
See with a guy.
You talk about Mark Crews and coaches, he doesn't claim to be superstitious, although he did tell me that he's wearing the same outfit that he's been wearing for the last 14 weeks.
His kids gave him grief at a recent Gwinnett County touchdown club thing.
They said, well, he doesn't shave until after Wednesday's.
He doesn't do this after Thursday.
Although about the shaving thing, guys, he did tell me that he'd shaved yesterday.
Well, that's good.
He had to look good for the cameras, I guess.
A coach that's not superstitious.
Yeah, I know.
That's got to be.
At least one.
We can't find any.
Yeah.
Here's McClain running, firing in the flat has a man off the fingertips of Miner.
Nathaniel Miner has a lot of catches this year, but was unable to haul that one to the pass.
A little bit high and so now it's third and 15.
Good job by McClain here as you'll see him he's trying to buy time and he's looking deep a little bit high.
It's hard to throw those passes when you're running, especially with the nerves and playing in the dome and everything's just a little bit different here.
He gets that pass in the second, third, maybe the fourth quarter later on.
He'll adjust from that.
They'll be able to complete those later tonight.
Now, a big play right here.
And if you're Colquitt County for the Packer defense and try to force a stop right here, get the football back and have to reclaim the lead.
This is a ball control offense, but they can't throw it.
And the plane firing down the field has a man to first down ball loose after a big hit and the Packers recover it.
Wow what a shot.
From that secondary John Gray the linebacker it's the one that recovered the football.
It's always good to hit I.
Did a trace got it look like number seven came out of nowhere and laid the would never shown it up on the jumbotron here inside the stadium and you could hear the noise from the crowd on that one.
Let's take another look at it.
This is one of the dangers of being a wide receiver.
You get over the linebacker, but between the safety and you meet a guy just like that ball pops loose.
Culprit's got it.
I'll step aside.
807 left quarter number two again.
You're watching the GHC class five a state championship live on GPB.
We're back in a moment.
1414, Colquitt County Packers, Brookwood Broncos here with 807 left in the first half.
And they have Gardner Harper LaBelle with you, John Nelson on the sideline here tonight.
Jamal Cole being helped off the field there after that last hit and the Packers will take over after the fumble at their own 44.
Tyler Brown of that offense going.
To work with brown load up in that one intercepted intercept put it by Lynch Cameron Lynch still on his feet.
And will take it up close to midfield.
So how do you like that?
The Packers with a big hit defensively called the Fumble and on the next play the Broncos get it right back.
Wow.
Anything you can do, we can do better.
It seems that's the way this game has been going.
What an exceptional move and an athletic one could get up in the air by Cameron Lynch.
Wow.
Big, big interception.
Get the ball back and try to make something happen here after he makes the catch, you notice that he veers off to his left looking for a blocker doesn't find anything but so he'll just settle down right there where he is.
Which of course, as we talked about, we'll be playing next year, leads Gwinnett County in tackles, not just Brookwood and back on the other end.
Here's Tompkins reverses his field 3530 and down to the 25 goes Nick Tompkins.
Trey Scott made the stop, but not before a huge gain by the Brooklyn Broncos.
Excellent job by the offensive line again it's a surge where Nick Thompson gets up to the line of scrimmage and he just gets to pick wherever he wants to go because he's got a couple of different areas he goes against.
The grain right here, starts to his right, cuts back there where you see that he's got an opening and the next thing you know, he's ten, 20, 30 yards down the field with an excellent pick up.
Tompkins second in Gwinnett County in rushing and a first year starter here back the other way gets the carry and takes it down just shy of the 20 Sean Hunt making the stop hunt one of the leading tacklers defensively for the Packers at six foot £180 and a senior.
But it's the Broncos that are on the move here second down and six upcoming.
Still over 7 minutes left at the half.
Scott back at four.
It's been a seesaw battle here.
Hey, that's what you like.
It might be the last team with the football here in this one, you.
Know, Rashawn Hunt.
One, two, four, six, forward.
He's not the biggest guy, but boy, can he fly once he gets around people.
The plane looking fine towards the end.
Has a man there Touchdown the fan your minor you give Nick McClain.
This much time and guess what's going to happen?
He's going to put the ball with a great arc.
A beautiful pass right there.
Just pass a pylon inside the end zone for a great touchdown throw right there.
Miner The six £170 senior makes the grab just inbounds.
Oh, well, that ball was on the money right where it had to be.
And now Eric Yang will put to add yet another Patty.
All recruits are right through the middle.
So 648 left here in the half and work with reclaims the lead 2114.
You get one more look at it Ben McLain sets his feet and boy they've done this probably a thousand times.
If you catch backyard.
Football right in front of the referee there gets to take it two feet down.
He doesn't even need to do that for a couple more years.
If he gets into the pros, look at that.
Beautifully thrown ball gets his feet down.
Nice touchdown for Brookwood.
Packers secondary maybe peeking into the backfield there a little bit You know good play action with Thompkins And there you see the drive just three plays 51 yards the 21 yard TD reception just a little over a minute off the clock and Brookwood getting it done for the year.
And it kind of goes back to what we're talking about Harper about Brookwood not really thrown it just on third and long for when they need to.
They open a drive.
You know, we saw it was on Nick Thompkins 73 yards and then all of a sudden, here's McClain going to the air a bunch.
Yeah, you'll see.
Play action is a great equalizer for four defenses.
It forces them to move up and then receivers behind them end up getting wider and wider open and you get to hit them for open touchdowns like that.
And another one by Yang goes with five yards deep in the end zone, not quite as far as the one that was, you know, nine or ten yards there a while ago.
So Yang must be getting a little tired, I guess.
You know, give him a little Gatorade.
Here.
You look at Coach Rush, Probst is again been an excellent coach.
We talked about all the state titles was featured.
Is he a head coach there at Hoover High?
Alabama is a team spotlighted as part of an MTV series Two Days and was hired at Colquitt County four years in his third season.
Now had him in the semifinals last year.
It fell just shy against the eventual champion, Camden County Wildcats 1910 here going to look at Tyler Brown.
He leads his team up ten of 16, 103 yards in this first half.
Not a bad first half.
Back to throw by just seven.
Swing it out right here.
And that is Cooper.
Number two.
He has a second catch of the night.
Another quick little screen to the outside.
They're reading something to Brookwood.
If they're playing a little bit too far off here, they're going to take what they give you.
If the defense gives you a five yard cushion, let's throw it out there and let's let's roll at second down and six.
We can do a lot of different things off of that clock rolling.
622 And this time they keep it on the ground here.
Simmer for 17.
Watch out a crowd at the 38 Nick Moore made the.
Stop and may have saved a touchdown.
With the way King runs, he was one man away from breaking it.
But that is a first down.
Takes a simple underneath handoff and he goes right up the middle and next thing you know, he hits the brakes, forces the defender to stop his feet, and then boy takes advantage like that.
He can hit the hole and stop on a dime and then get going again.
Packers right up on the ball, another quick hitter right here.
This one's Ridley and he punches ahead for six, close to seven yards there.
Again, the playoffs have pretty much all been on the road for Colquitt County this year, except for round three.
They were at home against Mill Creek because of the way the bracket shook up and that was the first home playoff game for the Packers since 99.
Average yards to play right there.
You saw it almost five for Colquitt.
That was complete to the big tight end.
Smith Once again and that's going to be good enough for a first down right at midfield.
Ty Smith just runs out to the flat.
He's open enough give him the ball.
He gets another first down.
Nice pickup.
He is big.
I'll tell you what, takes up a lot of room over there.
63204 and just a junior a lot of younger players on this team that'll be back next year for both sides, as you mentioned, Harper.
But coaches will be able to rest pretty well at night for sure.
Here's King finally stock just inside the 45 their second down it'll be third down upcoming.
We're out of this number 48 at all the stops as the Brookwood defensive play well this year.
And as we mentioned, his played a lot of spread teams this year.
Certainly not the new.
Spread teams are fast.
You got to line up right away.
Here we go again.
It's going to swing it out.
Tommy Hudson right at the first down marker, I believe he got the first down with a spot at the 39 and Hudson, again, one of those record holders, elites, Colquitt, several different categories.
There is a Brookwood player down at the 45.
As you see Hudson.
I just can't tell who that is right now.
Probably one of the defensive linemen.
Now, both these teams, of course, Harper getting it done in the semifinals, though.
Brookwood, of course, playing Collins here, which was a rematch from a game earlier in the year when they went to overtime, but they had a much easier time against them in the semifinals, winning 26 to 7, Thompkins went over 100 yards in that game.
Nick Moore had a couple of interceptions and again, just an overall a great effort there.
That, of course, Colquitt beating Grayson, who had knocked off Valdosta was Tevin King, had the game winning touchdown on that one.
And it looks like Carlos Granados is the injured player, but he is up and move around.
It's good news.
Well, join in on the GPB Sports Central chat during the game at GPB Dori back slash football and hit the game of the week tab Brookwood High's.

That's Gboard Backslash football, very interactive this year, high def and everything.
A lot of chat going on there.
Want to encourage folks to take advantage of that.
Enter in the 21st century with style and movement going to be.
Up to the receiver.
And that's one of those things that, you know, when you're a receiver, you break the huddle, not even knowing the ball count because usually the All-Star.
There's a couple of your penalty.
First down, a couple of cardinal sins of football and one of them as a wide receiver jumping the gun.
And you never want to do that.
No, no.
The snap count and don't be the one to jump offsides.
And that'll drive a coach like Coach Pope's crazy, very animated.
He is fun to watch, didn't he?
Well, you up and down that sideline, you.
Can tell he loves what he's doing.
And yes, he is.
He's a north and south guy to he's he's pacing on the sidelines.
He's going to need new shoes at the end of the season.
22 years overall as a head coach.
So here's close to 15.
Right out of the ground, has plenty of time fires and the fly has is tight.
And once again, a big gain right there of about 12 or 13 yards, just shy of the 30.
Terrific of protection there.
Up front by the offensive line, Brookwood brought a little bit of a blitz.
He brought an extra couple of guys and watch Tyler Brown waiting.
Waiting.
Gets rid of that ball in a nice catch.
Another first down for Ty Smith.
Second and short and brown on the Keeper this time will have just enough for the first down.
He only needed a yard or two and he got it.
But there is a penalty marker down and looks like Connor Hennessey made the stop and Colquitt County is signaling that it's on Brookwood.
We'll see if it's a five yarder.
Or more than that on the facemask.
Incidental facemask on the defense.
Five yard penalty from the in the run first down someone got a hand in there on it the first of ten from the Bronco 22 and a half.
Here is Ridley.
Back into the middle, stays on his feet, finally wrapped up right now before.
He reaches the 13.
Cameron Lynch a linebacker, had the interception while it goes the all time sack leader Brookwood he made that stop the.
Packers are doing a great job of mixing it up running it inside they ran it outside the fake in it ties keeping it all kinds of different things all the.
Down here a little power football over the left side and will have the first down will Tevin King he only needed a yard or so and I'll tell you one thing I really notice here, Harper, about the Packers offensive this first half, they've really been able to get a lot of yards on first down, which is really set up.
The second and short.
Third short situations kind of allows you really to open that playbook a little bit.
Basic offense allows you to do so many things when it's second short than if it's second ten or more.
Here's Ridley straight ahead.
Not much room there that time, though.
You get to take some chances that would be unwarranted in other stay.
That's just, like I said, basic football right there.
And here they go up the middle.
It'll be second and long here, but really anything longer than ten yards and they'll be in the end zone.
Saw Tennessee tripped up Lynch finished him off Lynch with a 3.8 GPA is epitomizes the turn student athlete is a quick little pitch came back into the middle but if he had just Silas Ferris Dillon Ferris he made the stop and there's another penalty marker down.
Well I was just about to say that was a great job of blocking by Blake stamps wide receiver number 11 here and he might have been flagged there for a hole we'll see if it's on him or not but just enough, a piece of the flag ends up landing right about where his feet were holding.
On the offense.
Ten yard penalty from the spot in the final second down.
So 352 left here in the first half.
That'll back the Packers up a bit and Colquitt County trailing by 72nd and 15.
Again, this Packer team last year, semifinalist as we talked about, just four and six.
The first year of Trump's first year, though.
But boy, he turned them around quick.
And despite the five losses this year, the Packers tightening up some things defensively have kept the offense rolling and find themselves here in the title game for the third time in Packer history.
Of course, the old Moultrie High School made a couple of final appearances many years ago, and a lot of folks in the Moultrie area should remember a lot of that history.
And indeed how you get to recall some of those things like that and special occasions when the team this year, whoever it is, gets to recount some of the things from the past makes for strong relationships, especially at the high school level.
Well, here we go there forward second and goal going to a five little halfback.
Pass there with that one wide intended for Hudson the Ridley threw it up there but it was covered pretty well by Brookwood.
Well, Hudson broke free at about the 65 yard line somewhere in that.
But the ball was a little under thrown, so he had to come back and get it.
Otherwise it might have been a very aggressive call there.
An interesting, if you call it a trick play, really just an unusual one that they did there, that could have scored a touchdown.
And see, that ball is a little bit short.
Sometimes these guys wear those gloves that prevent them from getting a better grip on the ball.
It kind of impinge what they can do with the football when they try to throw it.
So here is third down and long.
And the play will come in from the sideline here.
It looks like we'll have a time out on the field.
Coach Probst burning one here, time out.
That's only their first.
They'll have two more again Brookwood with all three of their timeouts here with 342 to play.
And the first half again, Colquitt came in on a ranked start of the season oh with three for a remarkable job by that man right there.
And these players of the staff have stayed together.
Mysterious Thorson, a coach who was away from the program, came back to it late in the season and has kind of helped out defensively a little bit.
These guys have really turned it around.
Coach Crouse told me during the week that on November 7th, after the season was over, they had really players only meeting.
And those guys among themselves, especially the senior said, literally has it's easy to say that we're 010, but once we got in the play and they made a commitment to one another in a way that really makes a bond among men and among football players, it's a very unique situation.
And they decided to take that to the next level.
And every game that they've played, they've played with, you know, come high water or whatever.
I I'll be careful how I say that.
You know, they're burning the ships behind them.
You know, they're they're not going to go anywhere else but play as hard as they possibly can.
And so far, it's been extremely successful for them.
Well, there probably hasn't been a team of the post-season that's faced the adversity that these guys have had with five losses.
They had five turnovers against Mill Creek in the quarterfinals, but overcame that and still won 27 to 14.
So again, these guys have played.
Well and playing quality opponents to, you know, even in the region in allowance and Valdosta are two quality opponents and they lost to both of them.
But you know what?
They qualified.
They're here and they deserve to be playing for the championship.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
So after the time out here at Brown, out of the gun with Sean Blitz here perhaps and now we got a penalty marker and this may be a delay game.
Yeah, well, you know.
Colquitt is not a team.
You expect to have a lot of, you know, delay of games as fast as, like the snap of the ball there but obviously got behind there a little bit with the timeout.
Especially with the noise too.
They may not have heard the whistle and broke route as quickly as they could.
Coach may have had a few more things to say and and end up costing him five yards.
Or you look at the current drive 12 plays 65 yards a little over 3 minutes right here that started way back at the 20.
So here we go.
Third down brown firing no he hit drop ball loose and if they're going to say incomplete, that ball not down there.
And guess who Cameron Lynch came shoot through there.
An amazing Cameron Lynch.
He is not looking to let anything get in his way.
He was getting mauled there, spins around and gets his hand up and just enough time to knock that pass down and force a fourth down and a field goal attempt here by Colquitt.
Well, Lynch is the school record holder in sacks and nearly had another one right here.
Now here's Rich Tyndall put it down at the 27 to a 37 yard field goal attempts right here on the far hatch for Rich Tyndall, the senior placekicker, to take us away.
It's a low liner and wide left.
He hooked it.
And so the score will be 21, 14 with 330 to play in the first half.
Tough break there for the Packers.
That penalty trick play that didn't work.
Few other things you expect them to get a little bit out of that yard to take it three points as a good drive, a good momentum builder for the next time.
Brookwood Defense Cameron Lynch with that excellent play there too.
It doesn't count as a sack, but it's a knocked down pass in a hurry.
And he's got a whole cobra sack full of those all year as well.
Now, Brookwood, quickly back out to snap the football here, trying to play a little bit of the Packer game and pretty good little pickup there by Jamaal Cole on first down he's going to have 14 as a Brookwood quickly up to the ball here championship weekend live right here on GPB a keyboard I want to thank you for being with us.
We've had an excellent slate of games throughout the course of the two days and championship.
Number five of five right here tonight live on GPB.
We hope you enjoyed it.
Want to encourage folks to make a donation there and support these these broadcast sport, these student athletes.
Is first and ten on the ground.
Tompkins races, bison defenders, watch out.
40, 35, 30.
Once again, DeMarco pushed out of bounds down at the ten.
It looks like Stacie Blackwell pushed him out.
That was Jamaal Cole who got the Kyrie and his guys are running so fluid and so much together it's hard to tell who hasn't.
He's gonna come.
Right to screen right there that's Nick Moore that gets enough of a block right there to free him for the big pickup right there.
Jamal Cole with the excellent job of getting down the sideline.
And again, he deserves getting a thousand yards with runs like that.
He'll have many more in his future.
Well, and a great block downfield, too, by the receiving corps as well to help spring it.
That was one of the things that was maybe a little overshadowed on that play.
But Cole now has it set up just outside the tent for the Broncos.
Here, Mark Crews, they're complaining a little bit about the ball not being on the right hash, mark.
They put it on the pro hashes and sometimes they're marked as yellow here in this game, but it needed to be out a few extra feet.
Obviously, it's going to be real important for this play at the ball.
Be on the correct hash.
Mark Butler.
The fullback the way straight ahead.
Not much there, though at all for Cole as he dives across the ten.
It'll be second down and long right here.
The Georgia High School Association believes that athletics and competitive activities are an extension of the classroom as students learn valuable lifelong lessons and high school athletics exist for the benefit of all student athletes, male and female, regardless of their skill levels.
And Harper, as we talk about it, particularly a lot of these offensive what you think these offensive linemen are dumb.
You know that's a reputation that reputation they these guys have the best GPAs on the team.
Yeah, they're doing great.
I know I wasn't the smartest guy, you know, but things have changed.
And for the all for the better.
Yeah, there are some smart kids out there really hitting the academics and.
They're also excellent athletes as well.
But playing five towards the end zone, Knocked Away.
Had two players over there.
Stephen Moore was in the vicinity to knock it away.
Then drops back to pass here is has to set his feet a little different.
That's the second time he's tried to go to his big tight end across the middle in this one falls a little short that he's had that's twice now in the last three times he's thrown a little bit behind Michael Gage.
And now it's third down, third and nine.
And you know, you're well within field goal range with Eric Yang.
But Brook would want the touchdown, right?
Here's Cole once again.
He's got some room.
Five dives into the end zone Touchdown.
Terrific call that results in a beautiful play here.
Not Statue of Liberty, but he gets ready to make a pass and then just hands it underneath the Cole, who runs right up the middle, makes a little break there, runs right next to the official gets in for the touchdown Terrific job by Jamal Cole this has been his drive We had the Nick Tompkins ones initially now Jamal's got two touchdowns himself here he goes about 18 feet in the air, I'm telling you.
But he's going to be a track coach, is going to be wanting him to be doing some long jump in for him.
So Cole from 11 yards out has that one to go along with the first quarter touchdown earlier for four yards out.
And here's Garrett Young to try to make it a 14 point game and he knocks it right through there.
So with 218 left in the half, Brookwood with the largest lead of the night, now 2814, the Packers still have time here.
But let's take another look at that touchdown run a little draw right there.
And Cole diving in, leaving, no doubt great offensive line blocking as well, too.
I tell you what, those guys up front.
In the versatility of the position as well, you got two guys that if one gets tired, you let the other one go in.
And it really allows from a coaching perspective, you always have a fresh guy on the field and in many respects they're competing with one another.
They may be great friends, but you know what?
They're both trying to do their very best and earn that spot and that that competitive nature has obviously dramatic results for Brookwood, not only here tonight, but throughout the whole season.
And for his efforts.
What does he do?
He gets to line up on the kickoff there.
Well, it looks like he's coming out now.
It tells coach I'm a little winded.
You should be.
Yeah.
You get a break when you score a touchdown like that.
Well, Cole and Thompkins matching up the first pair of, thousand yard rushers on the same team for Brookwood since the 2002 season.
And the Broncos had a pair of thousand yard rushes.
Both THOMPKINS and Cole have gotten it done, and there was a late guy on the field there for Brooklyn, but I don't know if they caught that one or not.
This one goes into the end zone and that's because Cole had to come off the field it wasn't coming off.
He looked like he was on it for the kickoff, but he was a.
He came off and no one replaced him.
So you and I saw him come off.
But somehow or another, I think they switched on notice his backup and Nick Moore with a very astute play by Hammers, another smart guy.
Hey, coach, you only got ten guys on the field.
I'm going to sneak on after the ball is kick.
Well regardless Yank put another one in the end zone Yankees you know he could show off he could also kick left footed as well.
He's a natural soccer player and he actually did a couple of times in the game.
He kicked off left footed when his right foot got quote unquote, a little tired.
And a little tired.
Coach, kick with the other foot.
20 yards, 235 to 50, Brooklyn with a slight edge.
And now the Packers to go on offense trailing by two scores here a little over 2 minutes to work with Trey Cooper with his third catch in the first half but for minimal yardage.
Well, don't let the clock fool you.
206205 and counting.
That's plenty of time for Colquitt.
They've had some productive drives now.
They had an interception and then they had a field goal attempt that that didn't go.
But they've been very productive offensively.
I imagine they'll put something together here.
Brown Looking downfield now under pressure will go down big rush by the Broncos.
REAVES Blankenship, number.
86.
Was one of the guys who came shooting through there and made the initial contact.
Look what comes with five on that play.
And that was really a coverage sack.
There was no one deep downfield.
One of the few times that they've gone with go routes way down the field and they weren't able to get that one.
Quick throw here complete Hudson wrapped up good open field tackle there by Simms.
We haven't talked a lot about Andre Simms here tonight Simms of course the Michigan State commit, but he is all over place on both sides of the ball.
He really highlights more on offense but it's, it's looking like he's going to play.
More DB.
On Saturdays next year.
So the coaches have played a lot more on defense.
He's been superb.
I know they're not playing him because of what he's doing next year.
They're playing him there.
He's a great cover.
Kirkwood And he does an excellent job of slowing down some of the better receivers than all of the other teams that they play against.
You know, it's a real privilege, I guess.
You know, it's kind of like getting a go against Michael Jordan.
You know, it it deep down, it's an honor if you're asked to guard him because you're our best guy.
And they've been doing that with Andre Simms throughout the course of the year.
Simms five eight, £170, senior over 50 tackles this year, has done a great job on both sides of the ball.
Well, tune in to GPB this January for the new season of Georgia Traveler From the Mountains to the Coast, our traveling team tracks down the hottest restaurants, the coolest getaways and journeys upon a few of the Peach State oddities.

Excellent show right there.
Want to urge folks to support a local broadcast right here on GPB.
So you get paid to go drive and eat.
That's a heck of a job.
Where do I sign up your eyes?
Those guys got it made.
What did you say?
That food was really good.
I liked.
It.
Yeah.
Cameron Lynch, back onto the field here and it is fourth down.
It looks like the Packers are going for it.
Firing into the flap.
They got a man complete and just in.
They're going give him the catch.
Gordon Smith, once again, the big tide here.
And boy.
Wow, how about that, Dave?
My own official count is that that's four times they've gone to him and he's got a first down after making a catch.
Mr.
Reliable right there.
That was the fourth and sixth.
He got it.
6.1.
Yep.
Got just enough.
His kid and I'll keep it on the ground here.
Going under a minute.
Now again, Colquitt still has two timeouts, but they're going to get back on the ball right here and run the play.
Brookwood still has two timeouts as well.
Just keeping Brookwood Honest with that underneath handoff, you know, they're going to be put in the error on this one.
Brown pressure, of which off the edge and into the ground it goes.
LYNCH With another big hit on Brown And that time it looked like he came on, touched off the edge.
And you've got to count for number 38 when he's on the line.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
You'll see that here he comes from the left side and doesn't really give Tyler Brown enough time to be able to get the ball loose because.
There is a Brookwood Defender just next to the the intended receiver there on that screen pass.
Coach Cruz said Lynch is the best linebacker Brookwood since Randy Kern.
And this is a great linebacking corps.
What you talk about Hennessey, Lynch and Maples.
So a third down now, third and 830.
1 seconds left in the Harper is brown going to load up five deep down the.
Field has a man there it's caught Tommy Hudson at the 25 wow what a throw.
And a grab.
Now you know why he's a record holder.
Fox gets behind the secondary.
In this case, it's Andre Simms.
He's got some amazing speed.
Does Tommy Hudson brings in the catch and now there are chicken right there on the scoreboard.
They'll be there in just a few seconds.
Hudson, again, a school record holder in multiple categories.
Also second in game receptions and career yards get a swing out to have once again makes a move inside still on his feet and unable to get out of bounds.
So the Packers will have to burn a timeout right here with 15 seconds left.
Nice job by the Broncos to hold him up, keep him in bounds at more of this short game.
Another quick screen that goes out to Hudson.
I thought he was going to just take the two or three yards and just step out of bounds.
But he goes inside, picks up another yard or two, its second and five.
So a little more yardage, a little more production.
And with two timeouts that they had there, only another second or two that were taken off the clock.
Well, GPB is the only station to broadcast the state high school championship games year after year.

A kids and we thank you from the bottom of our heart right here at GPB.
It's been an excellent weekend if we want to continue to bring these championship games to you and also to feature our student athletes.
Yeah, it's a very expensive ordeal to get these high def cameras.
In and to pay people like you.
So we appreciate the contributions.
And we look at Tyler Brown's numbers here, 20 of 27 for 194 yards, very active already in this first half.
In the air.
Are the Colquitt County backers, possibly another slowing down out here.
Brown is hit ball on the ground and they're going to call it incomplete.
Well, that'll stop the clock.
But just 8 seconds left and there's not a lot of time to do anything right here.
Again, Cameron Lynch once again with the pressure.
Yeah, it's amazing how he just finds the ball and creates havoc in the backfield here on a forward pass if it comes loose.
And the referee was very sure to make, you know, positive that it was a forward pass.
It's just taken as an incompletion right there.
But you and I were talking about Lynch and the numbers that he had, and we thought it had to be a misprint.
I mean, that they have it's Nintendo, it's PlayStation numbers, 18 sacks and so forth.
But after seeing him here today, I can understand why.
He's getting two or three a game every time he wants to rush and get to the quarterback.
He seems like he's right in his face.
Third down right here, but only 8 seconds remaining.
And that one will be blown dead.
It looks like a timeout going to be called by Brookwood defensively.
I want to talk things over here.
Timeout Brookwood.
That's a good timeout.
Dave When you make sure that the way that they're lined up the Packers are that if you were even just one guy out of position can cause a tremendous difficulty for you and you don't want to give up a touchdown here if you can't help it, you want to preserve that lead.
A two touchdown lead is very safe going into halftime.
And Brookwood is only allowed 19.7, five points in the playoffs, 15.3 overall in 14 games this year.
So they've been very consistent really on both sides of the football and that's why they're here.
Now, this really coming into this this today, we really felt like this was a game of balance versus balance.
Both teams very balanced.
Obviously, the Packers know they like to they like to run the ball with King and and Ridley.
But as we've seen, Tyler Brown's thrown for nearly 200 yards here in this first half.
And so they've been able to do a little bit of everything as well.
But trail by two touchdowns.
Yeah.
The thing about what I've seen with the Packers is they don't seem to lead a touchdown or even three bother them very much.
They've got the ability and I think the mindset with the coaching staff and everybody around there is it doesn't matter how far behind we are at any point the ballgame.
Two of their playoff games have been back and forth battles, including Grayson and Mel King from a couple of weeks ago.
They're averaging over 400 yards a game of offense, so certainly no need to panic.
Indeed.
Here's Brown and he has hit escapes and somehow gets that ball away.
Wow.
What a heads up play.
Had the helmet ripped off.
A penalty marker is down.
And man, oh, man.
Well.
Every foul.
Yeah, every.
Pun intended way to have your head about you in that you lose your helmet and you still get the ball out of bounds.
And by one more play.
Now, he didn't know that there was going to be a defensive facemask.
There.
But what's savvy, this guy knows that I got to stop the clock.
He gets it out of bounds and he doesn't throw it out sideways.
So it's a penalty.
Excellent.
Heads up decision right there by Tyler Brown.
And as Galbreath came through there and gripped off the head gear.
So this will certainly push it down there a lot closer.
It's my ass off.
There's only 4 seconds on the clock to go Horford results in a first down.
Well you buy one more play now the half the distance to the goal didn't turn out to be very advantageous for the Packers but first down and just inside the 12 and one play to go by do a little scrambling before he has something that pops up.
There late in the play.
No field goal right here brown.
With the play from the sideline will take the snap 4 seconds left clock.
Running towards the end zone it's intercepted and there is a penalty marker down but an interception for Sims.
And we may have interference right here so Colquitt may have one more play.
Since hurt his knee there.
Yep on that tackle I hope he's okay well.
He is up on his own power and hobbling off there.
You look at him, Andre Gray, since the penalty may have been on him as well.
Yeah, he's coming back onto the field right here.
And it does look like it is going to be on Brookwood.
And as the rules state, that buys him.
One more player on the defense.
First down, we'll have an untimed down.
So here we go clock.
Reading triple zeros, but an untimed down right here for the Packers.
He will go for it just outside the five try to within a possession right here the Packers with the final play of the first half offensively Brookwood trying to keep it a two touchdown game and now Rush will burn his final time out He went running down the sideline there he got the attention of the official count.
I told you he's going to need new shoes, but that's a great time out.
Here's a guy that really needs to take the time that you would need right now in order to be able to get all your guys together, make sure everybody's on the same page the way that Brookwood has been coming back with their defense.
Now you think about what is my second?
What's my third option if I'm quarterback Tyler Brown, you know, do I have a guy that is going to be my second or third reed that I wouldn't normally think of?
They might have a little option right here.
Play a is always done this but let's add another little thing a little wrinkle onto make it a little more difficult to defend there from the six yard line.
Well, all I know is I'm tired just watching coach probes move up down the sideline.
I'll tell you what, a lot of energy over there, very animated.
He's in shape.
And you have to be to be coach in a lot of high school kids.
So they'll give you a hard time if you don't stay in shape.
That's right.
At least I know I did when I was a young guy.
Get on my crutches.
But real smart guy.
I mean, he's been around this game for a long time.
And one of the innovators, too, he's one of these guys that takes this offense and he isn't running it just because it's a fad.
But he really and honestly believes that this is the way that football is going to be going in the direction.
And he wants to be a stalwart and a front runner and he'll get the best guys that you can in the high school level because you never know who's going to come in next year.
And they have to be able to run this offense and and do so.
Well and looks like they're going to go for it here on fourth down.
And the Packers trying to become the third team.
To win a state title with five losses.
The last team to do that was Thomas County Central back in 92.
Right here is the one.
On time down right before halftime.
Colquitt County Packers trailing Brookwood 2814 Brown firing towards the end zone.
Tommy Hudson, touchdown.
Wow.
What a play call.
Excellent play call.
Because you went against the guy that just got injured.
Even if it's just a little bit, he's not running at 100% speed.
He may even be 99.
Hudson comes in and he runs a little dig route going on the inside but stops and plants.
There's a head fake there that takes place.
And next thing you know, he breaks it to the outside, towards the sideline, a touchdown.
So Rich Terrell trying to make it a one point.
All right.
Excuse me, a seven point ballgame right here adds the extra point.
And it is now 2821.
And we have reached the halfway point.
What a play right here.
Tyler Brown put this ball right where it had to be.
Just beyond the reach of Simms.
Yeah.
The game of inches football is and one more inch and he gets it knocks it away.
But in this case, that one inch brings him within one touchdown of tying this ballgame up extra huge.
Absolutely.
In the in the second half there.
Indeed.
No doubt about it.
2821.
John Nelson standing by with Coach Crews.
John.
Thank you, Dave, talk about that drive in the score just when you hit zero zero.
Well, you know, we gave up a deep ball and we gave up two penalties down there, got a big interception, got called for the for the interference.
Then we had a facemask penalty.
You know, I don't know.
I guess it's kind of like the Murphy's Law.
If it could go bad, it went bad on that drive.
So and then you also on offense, I know that you were thinking you might to pass more, but the running game is really getting it for you tonight, right?
We're doing a good job running the ball.
We just got to we got to get it back from we've got to.
Do a better job of getting them off the field.
All right.
Thanks, Coach Kruse.
Thanks for your time.
He's Got a seven.
Point lead, guys, as we head to the break.
All right.
Thank you, John.
2821.
The score at halftime, Brookwood leads Colquitt County, but again and oh, another whole nother half of football left to play.
We'll be back in a moment.
Battle of the Bands and your Tyree joining us.
Stay with us.
And hi and welcome back to PBS's live and exclusive coverage of the Georgia High School Association Football Championships.
What a five day battle we have going on right now.
Colquitt County trailing Brookwood by the count of 28 to 21.
You know, we have the battle of the bands and right now we have the Colquitt County Band entertaining us right now, the 58th Regiment Band.
Howard Weiss Dean is the band director.
There are 165 strong.
Let's listen in.
What do what do they do?
The 50th Regiment band from Colquitt County and the many people who've come up from Moultrie to Atlanta for this big football game here today called Cook County Group Nuke Drilling, Brookwood, by the count of 28 to 21.
I'm joined with the outstanding principal of Colquitt County, Bob Jones.
He has a dual role of being principal.
And he's a.
It's been a busy day for Mr. Jones here today.
Tell us about it, Poppa.
Yes, sir.
Well, I've got a 10th grader that plays.
He's a backup center here on on the Packers.
And I've also got a son who plays for Georgia Southern and came from Spartanburg to be Wofford today 2320 So we're excited about that, trying to go on a flight to go to Delaware next weekend.
Georgia Southern will have the chance to go to Newark, Delaware and get ready to advance on the postseason play.
Talk about postseason play for this team right now that represents Moultrie.
A lot of people come up for Moultrie.
Yes, sir.
We sold close to 4500 tickets presale.
And you can tell by the size of our crowd.
And football means a lot to our community itself.
It's a unifying thing.
And to come and play in a state championship game and a venue such as the Dome is just outstanding.
What a story for the Packers.
They started out oh and three coach probes gets the ear of some of the players you come in 19 five mark you've been really the hottest team coming in here.
It has to make you feel good.
Yes, sir.
Coach Probes has a great plan.
Our kids have been working since last January, and he said to them, the other night says, We didn't start working in January, not a play at Thanksgiving.
And that was our first game.
And so that's been his mantra is to finish what we started in.
You've got some great things going on down there.
Tell us a little bit about that.
Yes, sir.
We we've turned some things around academically the last seven years.
We've improved our graduation rate from 50% to 82%.
We've won two Governor's Cups Award for the SAT has sat in our area and region.
One at play.
We want it to the last three years my team has won a lot of things.
And so we're we feel like we're we're making a move and making a difference and we've actually reduce our dropout rate, like I said, from about 38% down to 8% last year.
All right, Bob Jones, thank you.
Bob Jones, the outstanding principal at Colquitt County.
Still more to come.
We're going to hear from the Brookwood Band and a whole lot more.
We are at halftime, Colquitt trailing Brookwood by the count of 28 to 21.
Here.
The great GPB and GPB talk halftime festivities continue live here at the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta.
The 5000 state game going on and is Brookwood leading Colquitt by the count of 28 to 21.
I'm Gill Tyree.
The battle of the Bands continue the Brookwood marching band, the Marching Broncos are on the field right now.
They're entertaining us right now.
And of course, Up Llamo Stanley is the band director and they are part of a program entitled The show is entitled Motown 2010.
Let's listen in to the Brookwood Bronco marching band.
Which is the.
Award winning Brockway Bronco Marching Band, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, part of their Motown 2010 performance here today, 247 Strong and ain't no mountain high enough for rumbling in two quarters away from getting a58 state title.
With me is the leader of Bronco Nation, the outstanding principal for Brookwood High School, Debbie Deas.
Congratulations to you.
Thank you so much.
We're so happy to be here representing Gwinnett County public schools.
I want to ask you this.
You look at what you've accomplished on the football field, that pales in comparison to what you guys have accomplished academically.
You're doing a lot of great things at Brookwood.
We are you know, our kids do a great job in the classroom.
And I will have to say, we have just a wonderful faculty who was absolutely phenomenal.
You were telling me a lot of people came up from Moultrie representing and rooting on Colquitt County, but I see a lot of here from Bronco Nation and I give you a lot of credit for that.
We had a lot of folks come from Snellville.
We had a great sendoff.
Our football team today at the Fieldhouse, and they all followed down.
And we're here tonight representing Gwinnett County.
Your thoughts of the first half of this football game.
You guys have a lead right now.
Very proud of our kids.
Not quite sure what happened there the last 16 seconds, but our kids have done a great job.
Well, Coach Cruz, I'm sure we'll get it fixed in the locker room.
I want to wish you a happy holiday and.
Also want to say thank you again for letting us be a part of such a great championship with Brookwood.
Thank you so much.
Go Broncos and of course Brookwood and Colquitt County battling for the five a state championship right now, Brookwood leading by the count of 28 to 21.
Now, let's send it back upstairs to the man who've been calling this fine football game here today at the Georgia Dome with first half highlights, Dave Garner and Harper LaBelle.
Gentlemen, it is all yours.
All right.
Thank you, Gil.
And again, a lot of action packed plays here in the first half.
Damien Bentley with a one yard touchdown run.
Got it going.
It put Colquitt County up first and Nick Tompkins a great effort to get into the end zone from eight yards out time to score and then Brookwood with their first lead.
What a move there Jamaal Cole back into the middle for a touchdown 14 seven.
And a little bit later on, the Packers would tie the score a jam.
This time, Devonte Ridley with a nice little short run of his own, goes diving into the end zone 14, all the score at that point.
And then of course, a little bit later on, the Fangio minor on the receiving end of this beauty from Ben McLain made it 2114 in favor of Brookwood.
And then the draw play right here.
Jamal Cole with the second touchdown of the first half, made it 2814 and then the untimed down before halftime there again Hudson with the reception from Tyler Brown 28 to 21.
Let's go ahead take a look at your Georgia.
EFC halftime.
Stats.
And Harper, as you look down through there are 200 passing yards for the Packers, 188 rushing for the Broncos.
Anything stand out to you there in that first half?
Oh, yeah.
And many the passing yards is a little out of whack in comparison to what you would want, especially if you're trailing by seven.
But a great job there and the time of possession down at the bottom.
Boy, I tell you what, for trailing and yet still having the ball over twice as much as what Brookwood has.
Very impressive right there.
Let's go downstairs to John Nelson, standing by with the trailing coach.
Coach approached John the coach.
You said that that first you had never before.
You know, I don't know that I can ever remember 61 offensive snaps in the first half, you know, and I think that's one of the reasons that we're where we are.
You know, we're only down seven.
I mean, obviously, the three huge plays of the game was the call back, you know, that we had the holding call down there and and then didn't score it and then back to that missed field goal, they turned around and went 85 and scored that huge turning point and they was snap the ball over the punter, say it and gave him seven and then and then we threw a pick after we'd really jarred the ball loose so you know we just we've made some mistakes you know and and really just and played is what we're playing pretty good we just made two mistakes.
All right.
Well, thanks for your time.
Good luck in the.
Second half, coach.
Let's send it back upstairs.
We'll on phone.
To Harper and David after that.
All right.
Thank you, John.
Coach probes to Suzy as well.
We're about to kick off the second half here.
We'll step aside.
Be right back.
2821 Brookwood Leads, Colquitt County.
You're watching the class five state football championship live GPB.
We're back in a moment.
Brookwood 2821 over Colquitt County.
As we get set to kick off the second half, 12 of the last 16 state champs and Class five have come from either region one or from Gwinnett County.
The same thing's going to happen here tonight, the seventh head to head meeting between Region one and Gwinnett.
And it was an excellent first half.
They have Garner, Harper LaBelle back with you.
John Nelson on the sidelines here tonight, of course, Gill Tyree of GPB Sports Central, joining us as well.
It's been an action packed weekend as the Packers booted away, Brooke, will be on offense to start the second half.
Oscar Lerner taking it on offense.
Andre Simms on the three.
He's got.
Some room.
Watch out, 35 degrees down the sideline.
It's a footrace and Simms will win it to the house.
Andre Simms.
Are you kidding?
Wow.
What a way for Brooklyn.
Open the second half.
What a great patient, Reed, that Andre had there.
Once he caught the ball, he let the blockers get the position that he needed to, made it a great turn at where the numbers worried about the 2025 yard line next thing you know it's a footrace that he wasn't middle in anybody win great job of making an impact.
From the opening statement here at the second half.
Look at him go folks.
Blazing speed.
I mean, there are some fast guys on coach Chris team and he just blew all of them away.
Yeah, we're talking about offense, we talk about defense, but how special or special teams?
We talk about the kickers in this match up.
But here's Eric Yang looking to add the Pats, but a big return right there by Simms.
And just like that, too, the Packers have cut it down to a touchdown at the end of the half, but Brookwood needing just a kickoff return to go back up, two touchdowns, an 87 yard kickoff return by Andre Simms, the senior.
And now you know why he's going to be playing football at the next level next year.
Well, here you think in the last play or two of the of the half hurts his knee a little bit on that interception that ends up getting called back and his guy ends up scoring a touchdown on him.
I bet he went in.
Mark Cruise and said, Coach, I don't care what happens.
Put me on kickoff return.
I'm going to make something happen right now.
All right.
Well, all right.
We let you do it.
Yeah.
When you've got a talent like Simms, you can't afford to keep him on the sideline.
I mean, you got to have him out there.
Well, he's a competitor.
And so after giving up a play, he wanted to make up for it.
And boy, he sure did right there.
Well, the good news for the Packers, Harper, is there's still a hole half a football left here to play.
You saw Coach Probst on the sideline there.
But this is not a Packer team that panics.
They've been in this position before and they've got a hole half here to do it.
Yeah, they may get another 50, 60 to 60 plays if they get anything close to what they did in the first half.
Absolutely anything can happen.
So here is Yang, who will use his right foot this time and gets a little bit of a running start.
We'll see if he can put it back in the end zone.
This was a low liner and it was go off the fingertips of Cooper, go into the end zone, not the conventional touchbacks we've seen here tonight.
A little bit more power behind that one.
But nonetheless, the Packers will start from their own 20.
You know, he just mishit that one a little bit and it's only a fraction of the it goes from where it's in the air for five or 6 seconds or one like that where it's real flat.
It ends up going directly into the hands there from the five yard line, but so much trajectory that it still goes through first and ten on the 20.
Browns numbers in the first half, 30 attempts, 200 yards, a touchdown and a pick but that's a lot of that's a lot of pass and that's more than most teams throw the whole game.
So Tyler Brown again behind that offense, the big.
Offensive line.
Giddens drives Ward Mobley Ward is a67 £280 senior.
And the left tackle here is King Wilkins the half with the football and good yardage on first down and really Harper that was the key for this Packer team in the first half was picking up great yardage on first down setting up the second and shorts they don't even have a second down right here.
Yeah, great job here.
Reading the blockers in front you Garrett Brewer gets on the inside, gets a piece of a guy and Tevin King is able to follow him for a first down for the Hennessey on.
The last stop.
Not much room there on this one though.
And I'll tell you, Ridley, they play there the carry and you see number 30, Johnathan Brown, one of the guys in there along with Ferris out the secondary you get Brookwood last year was just six and six.
They made it to round two, but just six wins over the last two years.
So what a turnaround this year.
The Broncos probably the turnaround team in the state of Georgia now 13 and one in playing for the state title here.
King gets it up in there across the 25.
But once again minimal yardage maybe two and I'll bring up third down.
And interesting you point that out Dave Brookwood for their standards a couple of six win years would be, you know, in some cases be a good year for some folks, but not for Brookwood.
And, you know, they've worked very hard in the off season from the time spring ball took place all through summer, and the results have paid off dramatically for them.
Third meeting between the two here tonight this time around hit as he lets go of it and which is going to fall on it and they are going to say it's a fumble and a recovery by.
Cameron Lynch and the Bronco defense.
Well, that counts as a sack and a fumble caused and a fumble recover.
That's a three headed monster, right there.
Look at him.
Come around the end, folks.
He is so quick.
Gosh, he is amazing.
And he's low to the ground.
And some of these big guys just don't know how to guard him.
They don't know how to block him.
But look at this young man.
He's going to be playing a lot of football for a long time to come.
Lynch came into the game with about 17 and a half sacks will add to that total here the state championship game and now the Broncos already up two.
Scores.
With the ball at the Packers 28.
To a padded lead even more higher in.
Motion.
But they'll pitch it.
And that is Thompkins, who breaks free down of the 20, a gain of a few there.
Stephen Moore, the linebacker over there to help make the stop defensively and.
Excellent ball position Ball's in the right hand by Thompkins doesn't get knocked loose It's one of those plays where he had to fight for those yards on his own got hit a couple of times.
They're behind the line of scrimmage, but still able to fall forward and get a couple of yards out of that.
It'll be second and six.
Look at the backfield here tonight.
The 2000 rusher certainly living up to it.
THOMPKINS Already over 100.
Cole Porter threw shy of it and now we'll see Fortner the full back in there as well to lead the way not going to carry a lot, but he paves the way for Thompkins and Cole to run through at this time.
Thompkins down to about the 21 Drew seven more combining for the hit that this Packer defense has played well throughout the postseason, struggled a little bit, allowed 30 points on average throughout 14 games, but they've improved on that a little bit in the postseason.
Of course, holding Jenkins to 21 in the first round, Dilpreet took his 14 in round three.
And of course the a big win last week for Grayson.
Both of these teams have played great.
So that's the one common opponent between him and of course both teams winning good with ten nothing.
And corporate 3124 that time not a lot of room on third down John Gray.
With a big stop for that Packer defense will force fourth down after a loss of a couple.
Johns only a sophomore he can bench over £300.
He's got about 78 tackles.
Add one to that here on the earth textbook play by the sophomore over or linebacker excuse me.
Now looks like we'll see Eric Yang attempt a field goal.
Yang has been very impressive with six field goals in the postseason that's going to be a 41 yard gain, 17 of 23 on the season.
That's come out with some big kicks, four of them in the playoffs plus 40.
Here's another one right here.
Plenty of leg.
And it is through there.
Just inside the left.
Upright goes Eric Yang.
And that'll make it 3821 with 817 left here hit period number three.
And here's that strong away we been talking about in that time.
You ain't got a chance to showcase Harper.
Yeah, this guy could put that.
That was a 50 maybe even a 60 yarder if you know, it's funny how guys, when you get 40, they put it through with 20 yards to spare where you put him at 60 and yeah and they get real nervous because they have to over kick it.
He's got a great smooth approach and he's only been doing this for a short time.
Folks say this is his first year of football.
He's a senior.
So if he gets real lucky and wants to do this for a living, he may have someone that would be interested in him, but that's at least the sixth kick this this playoff time that he's had for at least 40 yards or more.
He's got a 49 yarder, 47, a couple from 41.
So he's an excellent add on for your football team.
Anytime you can enhance your game, your kicking game, especially with a guy as reliable as this, well, that's just an extra feather you get to put your cap.
To field goals of 40 plus yards in round one to get staff ready to hit a 40 and a 49 yarder gets caught crossing around to.
Halfway well here from 41 in the state championship game and here's another wall kick off and.
Just for that one to.
See he got to.
Warm up.
With a field goal and now he gets to put it nine yards deep into the end zone, really have half.
Time to rest.
So that's a leg not as not as tired as it was there in the first half.
When you look at him, he runs off the field.
I mean, he's got to smile.
It's just got the genuine enthusiasm and he loves it.
I really enjoy seeing guys like this run around and have a great time.
With high school football's all about.
So now the Packers offense will go back to work.
We talked about Tevin King and he was only held to 58 yards rushing last week against Greyson.
But Tyler Brown was able to get it done through the air.
The Packers did just enough play, good defense.
King, of course, had the game winning touchdown.
Hudson, though, had nine receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns.
And that was a school record for receiving yards last week for a single game.
Here's King breaks one tackler stays on his feet Watch out and just shy of another first down or right at the marker actually at the 30 jwan Farris made the stop and a gain of ten and a first down for King.
It just barely gets across that 30 yard stripe, but excellent pickup there for him.
He's done a great job of following his blockers and getting behind him in that way.
He had to do a little things more independently.
He's got Trey Cooper wide open, good open field tackle in the flat by Jackson.
The Free Safety Cooper with this fourth catch of the night, no team has started the season oh with three and Class five.
They had won a state title so the Colquitt County Packers try to become the first team to achieve that here tonight.
But they trailed by 17.
Keep it on the ground.
King once again tries the middle.
Usually that's Devonte Ridley and Ridley, not with a lot of yardage there on that play.
Well.
Many, many, many respects they've had such a weapon setting offense anyway.
Anyways, it just one.
More if they win it tonight from right here, Ridley will have it up.
Across the 40.
Jalen Farris with another stop that is good enough for Packer.
First down now it's 707 left here and period number three.
Another injured player Brookwood.
Yeah Bronco down first the 38.
Carlos Granado again.
Yep it's 707 left here and period number two will step aside for just a moment.
Again, you're watching the Class five state football championship live on GPB.
Come on.
GPB is made possible in part by supporters of the Georgia High School Association, including the following.
This stage is nowhere near Broadway, and none of these actors will be accepting an Oscar anytime soon.
Still, they are rehearsing for something important while they learn their lines.
They're also learning teamwork, discipline, self-confidence that everyone has a part to play, skills that will make them stars.
Long after the curtain falls, the National Federation of State High School Associations reminds you that when kids take part in high school activities, they get set for life.
3821 Our score here again, about halfway through this third quarter, Dave Garner alongside Harper LaBelle, Jon Nelson on the sideline tonight.
And there you see the injured Bronco.
Granados once again helped off the field here, though.
Take a look at him over there on the sideline.
Meanwhile, the Packer offense will come back out of the field with a707 left here in the third period.
And the Packers are 1994 state champs defeated Valdosta Brookwood your 1996 champs also beat Valdosta as well after losing to them in the opening week.
Came back and beat them at the title game there.
So both these teams parallel each other a little bit historically and here they beat against each other here as Kevin King bounces off of run tackler, try to hit the corner.
He's got the edge.
Watch out.
Still on his feet stays in bounds 30, 2520 and finally shoved out at the ten yard line by.
Nick Tompkins but what a run by.
King you talk about making something out of nothing.
He had three or four different holes and nothing there and there's nothing here.
And I'm going to give you one more little fake and get to the outside, turn it back in.
Nick Moore tries to get him in.
Nick Tompkins is the only one with the speed to get him there in about the nine yard line.
What a play.
Denmark of just shy of the ten as the a chance to raptors gravely back into the middle good patience there is a down just shy of the five again well over 1700 yards all the season in rushing for kings so he's well over 18 now after especially after that run.
Meanwhile Ridley is also closing in as well with the ball game.
He's out here tonight and all of a sudden this Packer offense, Harper's back in business.
Here's King right side driving in zone.
No doubt about that one great blocking up front by that offensive line.
And they cleared the way for.
Number 22.
Well, you spoke of it it happened within just an instant of that.
Yes.
The offense is back live and they're never too far out of the ballgame now with a chance here to bring it within ten.
Plenty of time left on the clock here in the third period.
Great job.
What excellent job by Tevin King to make something out of nothing and really turn this into a very productive drive.
KING With his first touchdown of.
The night, he was Tindal for the patty.
It puts the uprights over 618 left in this third quarter and it's 3828.
The Packers back within ten still plenty of time on the clock in this one as King closes the margin once again.
Great block right there.
Boy who looked like number number 50 right there, Garrett Brewer, the senior.
Who.
Had a pancake there, nice job up front and did well.
The offensive line is where the trenches is, where many games are won.
An excellent job there.
As we've said by the Packer offensive line.
And you give the ball to that guy right there, Tevin King and something amazing could happen.
And it certainly did on that drive on a couple of plays and now they get within ten right back in this ballgame.
So Oscar, a little over to the way there.
You look at the scoring drive, seven plays, 80 yards, a shade under 2 minutes of the six yard.
Touchdown run by King.
His first of the night here Oscar Leno to put it away top gets back deep.
Along with Cole in 2000 yard rushers on top just to have the return from his own ten Let's take it up across the 20 it'll be tackled at the 22.
So Brookwood will go back to work.
The Broncos have not had to play a number one seed and they've had all four of their playoff games at home this year.
But the year road has it.
I wouldn't say it's been easy.
By no means they had to take on a good Hillgrove team in Collinsville, the city final.
Let's go downstairs and check in with John Nelson.
John, what do you got?
Injury update, guys on Carlos Granados.
Right now, they're testing that ankle.
They've pre-taped it.
But as of right now, he can't put any weight on it.
So it's going to be testing the depth of Brooklyn's defensive line if he can get back out there and play out.
All right.
Thank you, John.
Indeed it will.
And again, Honest has been in on several tackles as we've seen it throughout the night.
So that will certainly hurt if he's unable to return.
Meanwhile, the Broncos offense goes back to work.
See Jamal Cole right there on the air on the run for Brookwood.
Now, Tevin King is just a few yards shy of 2000.
And, you know, coming into.
The.
The game, we talked about whether or not he might get close to that or not.
He was going to need a good chunk of change there.
HARPER But now he's only needing ten more yards.
We'll see what happens when.
The Packers go back on.
On what an incredible achievement.
We're glad we're here.
There's a nice little hook up right there to follow her out of the backfield.
He lines up at fullback post the time.
It paves the way for Thompkins and he's able to get his hands on a football here for a first down reception.
Yeah, if I'm a defender, I'm thinking, well, they're not going to give it to him.
I'm going to go guard one of these other guys.
But that's exactly when they do give it to us when you don't think they will.
Quick little three step drop.
Actually, five step hits him right over the middle and he falls forward for another seven or eight yards.
Excellent job there by Falcons.
Look at the Broncos there.
Fortner is an excellent blocker but showed some good hands right there as a receiver and he'll slot up in the slot this time first and ten ball at the Brookwood 42, the plane firing down the finish.
Scott Simms inside, the Packer 35 slips a tackle and he'll go inside the 25 down to the 24.
And that's Andre Simms showing off his receiving hands.
Terrific patience there by Bamba play the way for Simms to break free is running a deep crossing inner route it's called a dig route gets in over the middle.
Excellent play.
Watch him.
He gets back here on his seven step, waits for it to clear out and it does wide open there for Simms, who picks up an additional 15 now 20, 23 yards after he makes the catch.
Ben McLain has such a smooth delivery.
Very quick delivery.
I love watching him throw the football.
He's got a big time arm.
We'll probably be seeing him on Saturday sometime soon, too.
So just like that, the Broncos with a big play into back territory.
Take the handoff right here going to swing it out.
Big hit, but a nice reception nonetheless.
Jonathon Brown with the reception hung on to it took a big hit from a couple of packers but held on.
Yeah Jonathan just lined up in the slot there once he was able to do is just sit down in the zone.
Then McLain finds him in a pick up of another first down there, down to the 14, just inside the yard line here as Cole is hitting drop loss.
Here of about three yards.
Nice job by Quan Daniels.
Daniels a.
Guy we haven't talked a.
Lot about here, Harper, but had three sacks last week against Grayson and played a huge role in the Packers semifinal win.
Yeah, he had one of those great quotes.
We knew we had them when we were going to force them to pass.
And he just peeled his ears back and and got some pass rushes and made some sacks in that big game.
And here he gets across the line of scrimmage before anybody is ready for him.
And creates a three yard loss with that play.
Now second down at third team at 344 on the clock here, this third quarter wins nearside.
This time, Fortner lines up in the backfield.
Once again McQueen off the fingertips and intercepted intercepted at the 50 breaks a tackle That's it There he is Davis with the pick and the.
Packer defense comes out with a huge stop.
Just when it looked like this ball game was about to be put away, the Packer d comes up with a huge interception.
That was a very similar play to what Nathan Minor here just sits down in the zone, very similar to what Jonathan Brown did just a couple of plays ago.
Juan Nelson, number five was the guy who got his hand on the ball.
You'll see Nelson right here.
Tip it, little tip, drill right.
Here, right into the hands of a man.
I'm sure Ben Clay wants that ball back, but here the momentum has changed.
Getting the ball there on the.
15 yard line.
Here come the Packers.
With Sean Blitz.
Here comes Lynch once again.
They'll keep it on.
The ground, big route into the middle, watch out, team to the outside and finally drop down at the 35 by Nick Moore and King is over 2000 yards now on the.
Season what a remarkable achievement for Tevin King.
Well, congratulations and ordered everybody in.
Colquitt has anything to do with any yard that he gained this year.
That's a remarkable achievement.
You're right there.
Very seldom does that ever happen.
So here's Ridley.
He's got super watch out midfield and a gain of 15.
Nick Moore once again with another stop in.
All of a sudden, this drive right here looking a lot like the opening drive the ball game for the pocket county Packers.
Coach folks is going to let these guys fall look at him they're popping up there.
Just get in as soon as they get hit.
They can't wait to get the ball back.
Momentum change is pretty serious right here on the ground, really.
Once again, first down and more gain of 12.
And all of a sudden, the Packers.
Are racking up the yardage on the ground.
Most of those players.
All right.
Where Otto was, of course, he's standing on the sideline and he's not ready to play.
Andre Sims is not in the ballgame either.
Again, he's on the sideline, banged up for that secondary.
And once again, the Packers is another.
Big run by King and there's another first down gain of 11 more.
They're attacking right at the front of that.
Brookwood defense there.
You going to look now, 3010 rushing yards this season for Tevin.
Take the senior running back and he's not done yet the once again King bust out and that would have been a big play had Galbreath not corralled him he had some real estate in front of him if he was able to get past that tackle.
But nonetheless, the second and six, that's the first play out of the last four or five has not gone for a first down and he'll take a breather.
Before his time out there.
Galbreath making a big save.
But you're right, Dave, if I were the statistician for Colquitt, I'd be really upset because I keep having to rip my paper and start all over with all these new records that keep getting sent right in a new.
Record every time he touches the football.
Here is Ridley.
This time, not much.
There at all, though.
Maybe two down to the 20.
Blankenship with the stop clock a roll down inside.
2 minutes here.
This third quarter, 3828 still with ten point but the Packers on the move here trying to change that and you got to feel good I mean they were down 17 points at one point.
If they're able to cut this to a one possession lead going into the fourth quarter, we're going to have a heck of a finish here tonight.
Folks, don't go.
Anywhere to backs King and Ridley now both in the lineup.
Oh, snap.
Brown will pick it up and he will go down back at the 34.
He's had a couple of high snaps here tonight.
LYNCH Jonathan Brown came shooting through.
Who else?
Wow.
Well, this will set back the impact offense a little bit.
It happens on rare occasions where the center has to get his hands up and guard that nose tackle the nose position in such a way that it forces to do something a little bit different.
In that case, it was a high snap and it results in a big loss about eight yards.
There and fourth down, fourth and 17.
And now for the flag and, a marker KIRKWOOD'S defense trying to get the crowd.
What about here?
Snap infraction on the offense, five yard penalty.
I see.
There's another one.
Hundred and 22 now.
Bryson Giddens is an excellent snapper, but it's real difficult when you've got a real fast, strong guy right on your right hand.
If you're the snap or if a guy's running up right over your shoulder, it makes it very difficult for you to block after you snap so your accuracy changes.
Coach Probst showed a little frustration there.
Andre Sims is back in the lineup at corner Field, corner for the Bronco defense and now does look like the Packers will bring on a punt team here with the whole quarter left to play trailing by just ten.
Watch the fake right here, though.
Tanner White again.
Colquitt had a fake but work for them in the first half and it's call back on a penalty.
Of course, the punt that went over White's head set up a first and goal for Brookwood as well in the first half.
This one straight up the chimney shoot.
Not a very deep punt at all.
This one just inside the 20.
Well, earlier in the week, we caught up with Coach Mark Crews and asked him what was special about this year's Brookwood Bronco team.
Well, I think any team that makes it this far has to have some of those things that everybody calls intangibles, but they're really not intangible at all.
It's it's pulling for each other, caring for each other, buying into trying to make sure that we're all successful together, leadership, those things that that are always those things that that are on championship teams.
The coach crews name the Atlanta Touchdown Club five eight coach of the year seceded of course Dave Hunter the long time coach was there 15 years now the athletic director and part of our GPB coverage was great.
The other coach, Bruce has done an excellent job, has really his property around after just six games the last two years, those Nick Tompkins will carry for Brookwood.
But the Packer defense all over that play.
Travis Register is the first guy to get back there.
The sophomore defensive end able to make a stop there in the backfield before the end of the fourth quarter is only 1/2 left.
And that'll do it through the end of three.
It's Brookwood 38, Colquitt 28.
Let's take a break and be right back.
The final 12 minutes from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta when we return, you watching the five state football championship live on GPB.
Back here live inside the Georgia Dome 3828 Brookwood leads Colquitt County.
As we get set for the start of the fourth quarter, we're going to look at the cheerleaders of the.
House here tonight.
They've gone alongside Harper LaBelle, Jon Nelson on the sideline with a here in the final 12 minutes to decide the five eight state football championship at number two three quarters.
When you look at what they've done offensively, Brooke, with run 32 offensive plays, Colquitt ran 77 offensive plays here tonight.
We still have a whole nother quarter left after.
You would expect the score to be reversed with with the stats the way they are.
But you know what I'll take a ten point lead and and be glad that the stats or anything or whatever they are, just as long as the scoreboard looks good at the end of the night.
So the Broncos up in the fourth quarter with the football on offense, second down and 11, but not anymore.
That's Thompkins with the rush and he will have the first down after a gain of 12 and that was Snoop Arnold with the a stop is the Broncos good out of the shadow of their own endzone there and take it up across the 25 to the 30.
Scott runs so hard Nick Thompkins he just and he doesn't hit until after he's already past the line of scrimmage you get such a momentum and head of speed going with him very tough to hold to bring down.
In this game far from over here tonight.
You know that the Broncos would love to put up another score.
Big hit right there.
Wow.
That was a shot.
Hot number 32, the leading tackler on that defense who came shooting through there and smothered that play.
A tremendous effort by Rashad can you imagine you got a guy that you're already attacking right there at the point of the ball and then he's holding on.
And you still are able to put another guy like Nick Thompkins on his back.
What a great effort there.
And a follow through.
Excellent play on defense.
Was able to shed that block by Faulkner, which in itself is a quiet accomplishment.
He's only £180 and boy, he looked like he was 250 right there.
All big pressure.
And McClain will go down on Daniels with a sack.
He is fired up.
From about a four 7540.
And watch out, he's going to hit you right about now and get rid of that football weapon.
Quinn Daniels goes untouched.
You got to get a guy on him.
Yeah, that was good coverage downfield to the point.
Really had nowhere to go with the football.
Kind of hung in there a little bit, but excellent job there.
Again one of the great things that covered sac and waiting for something to clear out and open up down field ended up costing Brookwood about eight yards there.
With that said.
For a third and 17 right here back staring at getting the football back, the Broncos averaging 35 points a game basically throughout the 14 this year McLain get a swing out incomplete off the fingertips of Thompkins out of the backfield.
It's a fourth down.
I'm sure he'd like that ball back again.
Several guys in front of him, several big offensive linemen paving the way.
Well, and that's been a successful play, that little flip screen to the playoffs.
They're able to sneak Thompkins out, kind of get the momentum going to the other side of the field.
But he was just unable to make the grab.
And now Nick Moore will put it.
And in many respects, you want those guys, those rushers to get through close to the quarterback.
So it opens up that gap in the separation between them and the running back.
Big rush by there but Moore gets it away.
Returnable for King, flips a couple of tacklers watch out and just into Bronco territory at the 49.
Boy did you see him turn his shoulders and just I mean there wasn't much of an opening there at all.
And he squeezes through that and just makes something happy.
So dangerous.
Any time he touches that ball, he's a threat to take it to the house.
RUSH Protest, of course, picking up win number 200 in his career last week in the semifinals looking for win number two and one here tonight and boy it would certainly be a sweet one, but right now his team trails by ten, 10 minutes left Brown going to swing it over sifted intercepted by Rees Blankenship Tommy Hudson chases him down from behind but that's a huge defensive play by the Brooklyn Broncos.
Well, he must have been watching film on the sideline for him to be able to read that he saw something he recognized.
And what a great athletic move.
Watch Rees.
So at the top of your screen doesn't get hit.
And because of that, he's able to get both hands in the air, both hands on the ball.
Tommy Hudson saves a touchdown.
Now, the complexion of this game has changed now, especially with that play on Brookwood, possibly looking for the knockout punch here with 951 to go.
Still plenty of time.
But, you know, their try to eat up a little bit of clock right here.
You see Blankenship again, six foot, 200 pounder, the defensive out there in coverage stepping in front of Hudson.
All right.
Here we go.
A big dose of Thompkins and Cole, I would imagine, on this drive.
There's Cole, Coventry, Travis Register making the stop and little to no gain on that play.
If we can go back 1/2, Dave, throughout this entire season, including all the playoffs, Tyler Brown only had seven picks.
In.
14 ballgames, so he's averaging less than half and he's got two tonight.
So Brookwood is doing something right.
I mean, at reading, they're able to make some changes and adjustments on defense, sniffing out what some of these plays are going to be.
They're going to look at Ben McLain, Nathaniel Minor in motion right here.
McLain looking now under pressure steps, stays on his feet.
He pushed out of bounds late here.
That's going to lead him on that Finley markers on that one and that'll set up Brookwood big first down looks like Wayne Jackson number 90 was the guy over there that maybe got a piece of McClain as he was stepping out.
Well he had Nathaniel minor.
Personal foul on the defense half of this was to the goal results in the first down.
Faneuil minor was running a slant road underneath he was open, but Ben wasn't able to hit him at that time.
He just was his must not have been ready.
We're looking.
Something different buys time, gets to the numbers and decides to turn it up here right before he gets to the sideline.
And obviously he's hit as he approaches out of bounds in the tack there, puts the ball just outside the ten yard line for the Broncos one back.
It's called run a drop way in the middle five driving still on his feet.
Two more ball into the end zone.
Wow.
What run?
Jamaal Cole.
With his third touchdown of the night reminds me a lot of a Ronnie Brown say all.
All he's a human pinball right there where he gets the ball and once he gets to about the five he's bounced around watch the balance here folks he gets the ball about the 15 next thing you know he's hit there and he's hit one more time and then he falls forward into the end zone.
Paydirt.
Excellent job there by that running back is to score another touchdown here in a state championship game.
There you get a look at Cole right there.
He's had a huge for Brookwood Eric Yang.
They're trying to add the Pats right here try to remain perfect and does so.
So with 848 left in the contest, Brookwood Strikes again goes up 4528.
As you see Jamaal Cole going into the end zone.
Step aside, be right back.
The Class five state championship game is live on.
GPB back here inside.
The Georgia Dome 4528.
The Brooklyn Broncos lead the pocket county.
In this class five state championship game.
Dave Gardner, Barbara LaBelle with you.
John Nelson on the sideline here you see the Packer cheerleaders.
But right now it's the Broncos who have the lead.
They've run behind Jamaal Cole.
It is three touchdowns.
So now Eric Yang will look to boot it away for good, try to capture their second state title put, but pretty much all of the end zone.
This one might be returnable.
Nope.
Who we kidding?
Three yards deep in the end zone.
And the Packers bring it back to the 20 well again the 2010 to Georgia Sports Hall of Fame class of inductees includes two from Moultrie, a seven member class includes Ray Goff, a former quarterback at Colquitt.
From 70 to 72, of course, would later go on to play and coach at the University of Georgia and also Lisa Spain short a tennis player out of 56 and one record at Colquitt.
That, of course, was the 1984 NCAA Division one singles champion, also from Moultrie.
So again, good representation this year for Colquitt County at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
I wouldn't want to have to play her in tennis.
He's good so Tyler Brown in that packer off gets back to work but with their work cut out for them.
And here's Tevin King, who is shoved out as he crosses the 25 again, 839 left in this ballgame.
The Packers have been in hurry up mode since the opening kickoff, and I'm sure nothing will change about that here.
No, these guys are an outstanding ship.
They do this from sunup to sundown.
That's productive.
Play can do some things on second and five.
So it was a good gain right there and opens up some things for different that you have offensively that they may not have tried yet this evening.
Collapsing on that one on the ground.
It's going to be called an incomplete pass.
It was a forward pass and they're going to wave it off.
Blankenship thought he had a fumble recovery right there to go along with that interception.
Brooke would not like of the call, but I think it's a good one.
Well, and also he had a clear path to the end zone.
There wasn't anybody going to get I mean, so you're taking this touchdown away from me.
No, we're not, son.
That was an incomplete forward pass.
His officials have done a great job keeping it all together.
They're going to look at Coach Rush Propst, swing it over this time.
He big hit right there on the edge boy Ridley with the a reception by Connor Hennessey.
Clean it up.
Just one of the many awesome linebackers that Brookwood has been producing for years.
And they've got four of them again tonight.
Really five the way that this offensive line up, they drop a defensive lineman to go with five backers when they play spread teams seems to be very productive you don't know which backer is going to be rushing the quarterback in this case.
Hennessey makes a big play.
Fourth down and once again, the Packers will throw for it and they've got it.
Tommy Hudson in the clutch with an eight yard reception The Packers will move the sticks at the 754 mark.
Big play by Hudson Keep the drive alive and give you a chance.
While they're not afraid on fourth down are there.
No, not with this lineup.
Around swinging it out there is Brown of course the a school record holder in several categories as John Nelson mentioned earlier this season yards, yards per season, touchdowns, game yards.
Tevin King again on the Carry King, of course, with several school records, including scoring 220 points coming in career touchdowns, 48 season touchdowns, 35, had five touchdowns in a game, twice a school record of four season yards.
Now over 2000 brown loading up deep in the flap this time has his tight end Smith once again and we're going to call that one a catch at the midfield strike.
And that play has been there all night long.
Flournoy Smith that's his seventh catch of the evening.
Just quickly approach.
He's got over 80 yards now receiving the ball.
He's only a junior.
He'll be back.
Yeah, but one down.
That's all you need.
High school football first at ten for nine.
Oh, look at that play there is Tevin King stays on his feet down to the 36.
Johnathan Brown to bring him down, but not before another big game.
Excellent job.
They're cutting back and making people mess and get in the next level.
And getting the first down.
That's where Brown.
Now hit and drop flag comes flying in as Brown goes down.
Back at the 45, Cameron Lynch once again the hit.
Hit right on the.
Knee yeah he did.
Well, that looked ugly.
Brown up on his feet though he'll be holding against the Packers it looks like offsetting penalties.
Yes.
You have a holding on the offense.
We have a holding on the defense.
Those penalties all set first down.
We'll do it all over again.
One of the reasons he took so long to throw the ball is because the receiver that wanted to go to is being held downfield.
So those offsetting penalties bring up another.
Dan Brown steps up a little bit of pressure right there.
We'll tuck it and run it.
And it's tackled about two yards beyond the line of scrimmage by Ramirez.
Galbreath Brown was fortunate, I guess, to avoid the sack there.
Cameron Lynch again had the pressure.
They're going to look at King's numbers now.
19 rushes for 203 yards and a touchdown is now a 2000 yard rusher this season.
Oh, good tight spot right there.
The Hudson breaks attack with he stays on his feet finally thrown down at the 20 Brandon Salmon basically tossed him to the turf but another catch for Tommy Hudson.
Hudson, of course, the school all time leader in receptions, both season and career game yards, 197 course against Grayson second in career yards and game receptions straight ahead thing on making the guy miss of their round about the 17 to 8 of a couple Robert that Lynch combining for the hit too which is certainly living up to everything I thought he would be.
Yeah he's an outstanding player but look at what Tevin King at five six and Tommy Hudson cannot measure what's in their heart.
They're giving everything they have.
Brown steps up no where to throw the football.
Once again, everyone covered Galbreath once again with a hit.
He has been in on several plays.
This drive defensively caused a lot of havoc up there.
He really has the pressure in the quarterback when he has to and then fighting off of that and then you drop him.
Back in the coverage every once in a while.
But all around player Brown has time fires has.
Ridley inside the ten right at the first down marker that was a third and six play that's going to be awfully close to a first down.
Andre Sims wrestle down the board.
These new helmets.
That's a second time now a Colquitt player on that one and then previously with Tyler Brown losing his helmet there he's newer home seemed to pop off he's a lot more of that than you were previously that.
That was a first down so first and goal right here for the Packer office.
Well, keep it on the ground to really try to turn the corner a penalty marker as he goes diving and they're going to signal touchdown.
But there is a penalty marker down back at the 12 and not sure if this one's going to stand up.
See Coach Brooks telling him to get back in the game there.
Ridley thought he had yet another touchdown, but they come back in here.
Holding.
On the offense ten yard penalty from spot the foul first down.
That's a shame that that was so far away from the action see the Bryce Giddens or Trey rhyme that were caught with their hand in the cookie jar there and got that holding penalty.
Brown now first down fine towards the.
End zone to talk try to hit Hudson on the seam there good coverage though by Moore and also Thompkins it look like.
And Nick play in free safety pretty much that one just coming from the middle of the field just trying to break that up.
Excellent timing there.
It was close to being a pass interception.
But what I'll tell you what, look at these yards here.
Four total total yardage.
514 for Colquitt, 335 for Brookwood.
So second and goal for the 22 Brown going to fire this one deep of the flag has Hudson complete down at the seven and a half in front of Thompkins Thompkins gave him a little bit of cushion right there, kept everything underneath.
But now that does put the Packers with striking distance here on this third and goal for.
Tommy Hudson, again, with an excellent catch, tremendous desire.
I mentioned this a little bit earlier.
Watch him.
He's going to run out route time.
He gets to the sideline, catch it, get that foot down.
He got it.
Terrific job of knowing where you are, having great.
Balance and keeping that foot in bounds as long as he can.
And a timeout going to be called by Brookwood right here 521 to play they'll on Brookwood I want to talk about things defensively they're going to look for both teams right there.
Coach Rush Propst has been in the business a long time.
A product of Jacksonville State won five class six eight titles at Hoover High in Alabama.
And, of course, Jim Hughes was a longtime coach at Colquitt County from 83 to 99.
Coach Probst has already made a name for himself as.
Well, you're going to look at a recap of the games that we've seen this weekend.
It all got started on Friday afternoon as Calhoun and Buford went toe to toe.
And it was the wolves who won 3124 in overtime.
What a ballgame that really got things kicked off.
That, of course, last night.
The Chattahoochee Cougars blanking stars Bill as the Cougars finished a perfect 15 go on their way to a class four state championship.
And of course, earlier today it was class action which county Panthers 24 to 14 over the Savannah Christian Raiders again that was in class AA there is clutch county with 15 you know that of course the triple-A game it was Sandy Creek edging Carrollton the fighting Patriots also finished their season a perfect 15 and oh as they defeat Carrollton in a well-played football game but came right down to the very end against Sports Central on Wednesday evening.
We'll have a complete recap of championship weekend right here on Jeopardy!
Live From the Georgia Dome on encourage folks to check it out.
There's one banner down by Galbreath how big has he been on this drive defensively for Brookwood make it all kinds of points.
Well they've so well coached that they get their hands up and they know that they're pretty much in the lane or they have the chance to be the get your hand up and you deflect the pass just because the luck of the draw, it happens to be right where you are in other excellent pick up I choreographed to realize that he should do so at the right time.
Forces a field goal situation instead of what could have been a fourth and goal and a possible touchdown.
So a rich tender will come on and try to boot the 25 yard field goal from the far harsh, tough angle right here.
Being in this close by marker is down, it might be a to I'm not sure if to believe the game or would that ball encroachment.
On the defense after this loss and go fourth.
Down changes the complexion here a little bit perhaps.
You would think so from the three coach cross already told them on the sideline to kick the field goal.
You may want to request that.
Looks like they're going to stick with it.
So it wasn't going to be put down at the ten, basically an extra point but from the far hash of remember high school football is put out of good ways there two.
Thirds there but.
Looks like Temple's going to be able to boot it through and make it look easy.
So 45, 31, now the score of 514 and more than likely that onside kick, perhaps coming up from the Packers.
Well, you mentioned even from what would that be, the 20 yard line.
Now you bring him in five more yards, it's even a sharper angle.
So, yeah, you're right.
Great kick there by Tyndall.
Excellent job.
Richard's been a fine kicker for this team.
And as I mentioned earlier, finding good special teams, guys at, the high school level guys that are consistently get you three points and do things like that over and over.
Drill important saw Coach Brooks there on the sideline but as we mentioned very active very fun to watch and admires this Brookwood program a lot.
He was actually on the sideline during Brooke Woods 2002 championship game and basically consulted with with Dave Hunter a little bit about how to run a football program, took that model over to Hoover and won five state championships.
Well, he's been doing that.
He spent several days during the early part of that season with Dave Hunter and trying to learn what Dave was doing and incorporate that with what he wanted to do, not really stealing.
When you have the ability to take an and learn from and modify what you like from what other people that are successful are doing, and that's definitely an onside kick right there.
The way he's about, he's not trying to pound that ball into the ground and let it pop up.
Good camerawork, indeed, from our GPB crew all weekend long right here.
That's going to kick that ball about two inches from the top.
It's going to take two bounces and go right up into the air.
If he hits it right.
Open for the big hop right here, it'll come down, though, and it'll be recovered by Nick Moore in there on the Hands team and it will be Brookwood Football at the 50.
Meanwhile, of course, this Brookwood coaching staff has been together for a long time.
John Nelson I were talking before the game and several of these coaches have been there for more than 20 years.
It's always good to have that kind of consistency in a program.
I mean, we talked about Ben Mcclane's dad Benji, of course an assistant for for a long time, but programs like Brookwood Ross, all that have had those coaches that been there forever, I think it's important to establish that kind of consistency.
You're not only friends, but you're really family with one another when you've been doing it for that long.
THOMPKINS With a couple on the clock, will stop as the Packers will bear the first of three timeouts.
We're come up with seven left coastal counties for get the third meeting between these two, the first state title meeting, of course, between the two.
They met back at the Georgia Dome both times.
They met in consecutive years in 97 and 98.
And we're going to look at coach Crews.
And we asked him earlier in the week what likes most about coaching.
I think, you know, when you get to times like this in the year and in 40 or 50 or 60 of your pass players show up on the sidelines of your games and bring their children back to to watch their school and their team play and take pride.
And what we've developed and those things that have lasting friendships over the years.
Coach Crews, certainly a class act 24 years overall at Brookwood 34 overall as a coach has done a remarkable job.
Indeed.
And you think of how hard they work from really sunup to sundown, seven days a week during this time of the season.
What a commitment it is.
Straight ahead in a rare carry for camera, Fortner punches it forward for two or three to bring up third down.
HARPER Six of the ten finalists this weekend entered unbeaten.
And of course, neither one of these teams unbeaten, of course, Brooklyn with the loss in week three two to Cuellar.
But nonetheless I think you have Colquitt has five losses and he can add up all the losses combined of all the championship teams.
It doesn't equal five, but this team right here has turned it on and they did what they had to do, especially late this season, got in the playoffs and has made the most of up and down his top because he's got some room and a first down.
Juan Nelson brought him down.
THOMPKINS Able to get across the marker inside the 40 and that'll reset the sticks and the possession.
That was a critical first down right there is now the clock is obviously much more of a factor with 423 and still burning.
You know, you take that first time out.
I thought that was a pretty decision by Coach Croxton.
You know, we need two possessions.
Let's see if we can't stop him here.
And unfortunately, another another couple of minutes are going to burn off before they may even get a chance again.
Not much room there at all for Thompkins that time, right at the line of scrimmage, the Packers were go ahead, burn that second time out.
You know, we're talking Harper about the student athletes.
Brookwood has the highest SAT scores in Gwinnett County so far as a as a school there.
So, again, Brookwood takes their athletics serious, but also their academics serious as well.
And we see a lot of these athletes out here, 3.7, 3.8, 4.0, particularly along that Colquitt offensive line.
And then you have Elliott Graves of Brookwood who was already taking college courses.
Yeah, how about that?
Here's a guy that had done so well.
He had a choice to take AP or advanced placement classes or a decision that he made with the approval, obviously, of the administration and his parents and he enrolled in college.
So he wakes up in the morning a little bit later than what these other have to go to school with.
And those it takes a couple of classes on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays and then comes to school, has lunch, has two classes.
I believe one's a forensic and maybe history or whatever the other one is.
And then he lists weights and goes to practice.
Very busy schedule, but a very unique alternative to education and one that, you know, may be because of his brains and his smarts.
He gets a head start on college.
Interesting thoughts they're going to look at.
Jamaal called the sophomore, nine rushes, but 96 yards and three touchdowns.
What he has touched the ball here tonight good things have happened and look at this power I mean for the Broncos for about the same result there again.
Thompkins on the carry but the Packers him right at the line of scrimmage for no game under 4 minutes and counting here Colquitt down to just one time out left.
Know they'll try to preserve it here they'll risk losing the extra 3040 seconds 25 from now so it'll be about 310 before this next play is over its third and a long ten a little bit more than ten not quite 11.
Carolina, once again complain.
Look at the throw this time has a man wide open.
That's Nick Baugh inside the 30.
It's a first down and out of.
Bounds at the 19 oh.
Well, Nick Moore ends up lining up right behind his quarterback, Ben McLain.
There goes in motion and nobody goes with him by the time anybody picks him up leave.
That was outside linebacker John Gray.
That was the closest one to him, a rashawn hunt and it was too late.
There he gets the first down and more and more for Moore and fitting cap for an excellent athlete.
Again a catch tonight and defensive stand out many different ways and regulations to him.
But you think of Nick Moore.
Yeah indeed as a defensive player, but a huge play there.
Again, the senior head of the play baseball at the next level, it looks like at Kennesaw State and now the Broncos just eat up the o'clock and eat up the yards right here.
Again, more 6 to 205 senior with nine interceptions this year, six of the postseason.
It probably has the opportunity to play football right now is scheduled to be on the diamond.
And he's an excellent baseball player.
And yeah, he's already committed to Kennesaw State and really he'll be in the weight room and working out probably hit curveballs here within the next couple of days.
Certainly.
Absolutely.
No rest for the weary.
Once again, a power of one of a lineup in there.
Again, with Tompkins behind him in front of that clock all the way down, seven and five, Tompkins down to the ten.
Going to be about a yard shy of the first down.
John Gray with the stop defensively the Packers will go ahead and burn a timeout here it looks like well DVDs of this game at all five championship games can be ordered at say dot TV.
That's GHC Dot TV to order your state championship game DVD.
Always a neat feature right here.
A great keepsake.
It might be a good Christmas present to you.
Never know.
Well, it will be a merry Christmas on the Brookwood side.
Great gift for them and family and friends.
You know, it's a community thing where there are more than one people in your family and more than one person.
And all kinds of different folks take a part in what people are doing.
And to win a state championship and what that means not only for now, but ten years from now, when they have that reunion to bring this team back for 20 years and and the history that it makes but few for for example, they're going to bring the same team for three or four in a row.
It's going to be a unique way of trying to summarize their championship ups, their.
Four in a row for Buford.
That's unbelievable.
So here is a top two breaks it and he is in.
And that too is unbelievable that he's able to run off tackle.
Couple of these guys are really beat up especially number 49 Michael Gage but makes enough of a block there to string Tompkins free for another touchdown.
Take another look at it right here Nick Tompkins into the end zone for the second time tonight.
That ought to do it right there as the Broncos go up 5131 pinning the Patty.
They're going to look at the Brookwood crowd fired up here tonight, making the short trip from Snellville, Georgia.
Packers had a little bit further of a haul here tonight from Moultrie, no doubt.
Again, two programs that started playing football around the same time.
Again, Brookwood 82, Colquitt, 78.
Couple of years prior to that, of course, once the old Moultrie High School combine.
And here is Eric Yang, both knocks it through 52 to 31.
A very competitive ballgame here tonight.
Well, playing on both sides, but it's the Broncos who have emerged here in this fourth quarter.
Well, they've answered the bell and the call from Colquitt.
Colquitt and earlier in the quarter, very early in the quarter, made a real effort to change that momentum.
And that interception was really a big thing by Reaves.
Blankenship really kind of slowed things down for them.
And Brook Woods just been on a roll ever since.
You saw Thompkins numbers there well over 100 yards tonight.
There's another look at it really followed his blocker as well.
I like the way he runs with patience and he really waits until till things open up.
But you see that play there and you realize that nobody from Colquitt touches him until he gets into the end zone.
So that means that the offensive line, they're continuing their blocks there together, hat on the guy, they're just preventing people from touching him.
It's it's almost like a badge of honor to keep people from touching my running back until absolutely the very last moment.
They kick right here by Yang once again, this one in the end zone.
COOPER Unable to return it for anemia, FUSSELL Graves, LEDFORD Heil, all those guys across the front doing an excellent job here tonight for Brookwood, of course, the Packer offense.
Jeff Hammond, the offensive coordinator now with a team to work with.
The Packers, of course, have huge offensive line gets it £269 as a for a first Bruin rhyme rhyme 323 senior huge Jeff front we haven't talked a lot about ward here tonight at six six £280 the senior number 63 the left tackle there and of course Mobley 632 90 on the other side.
So huge up front and they've allowed Tyler Brown to rack up a lot of passing yards here tonight.
They've protected him.
Here's a long pass.
He's got little Octavius, little down the sideline and into Brookwood Territory.
They're going to mark him down at the 32, it looks like Thompkins on the coverage and then little landed awkwardly is on the turf but what a throw by Brown and what a catch by little.
Five step drop gets some great air on the ball Octavius little look at him He lands I think he had the ball hit him in the stomach as he was being tackled there by Thompkins.
That's one of those things where just takes all the air out of you, and the only thing you can think of is getting the breath of air and maintaining life.
I mean, it really is a instantaneous panic moment, moment, but he looks like he's going to be okay.
Save, help a little off right there.
He appears to be okay at first.
I want to thank you, the viewers, for tuning in.
Over the course of the last couple of days.
I'll say hi to everyone here at GPB.
It's been a long weekend, but a fun weekend.
Great camera work all the way around.
All the folks at the truck doing an excellent job here tonight.
I want to thank our our longtime spotter here.
Rick has been in the booth with us for as long as I can.
I tell you, there was a stat guys and everyone threw in an excellent job here this weekend.
And it's all part of the GPB family.
And we want to encourage you guys to donate, keep these championship games on the air right here at GPB.
And of course, one, encourage you to check out GPB Sports Central on Wednesday evenings for all the latest happenings.
Well, fans will sports at the State of Georgia is an excellent program for us.
Bill Tyree, Mark Harmon, all those guys, Jon Nelson do an excellent job for this.
Nikki Noto has did an excellent job this weekend as well, patrolled the sidelines.
And we want to say hi to the entire GPB crew.
So now to 2 minutes right here.
Brown got a swing it out.
He's got Hudson once again steps inside, makes the move 25 inside the 20 still go about there is no quit in these Colquitt County packers.
Now he's done that almost identical spot just a few short minutes ago.
You can't measure a guy by his heart and here he is.
He's five nine.
He's £151 dripping wet.
But he is very, very difficult to bring down because he has that little X-Factor, that desire and wonder.
He's a career record holder for the receiving position for this team.
This first down brown again, this time under pressure.
Get a swing it out as a man wide open that's king races towards the end.
Zone and he'll get in there.
But Tevin King with a receiving touchdown here tonight to go along with his rushing touchdown he had back of the third quarter.
Here he is.
We're looking at Ty Brown looking looking look, doesn't see anybody and just flings it out there off the flat.
Tevin King is able to get it into the end zone once he catches the ball here at about the 15 yard line, doesn't see anybody, sneaks it in touchdown.
It's a little bit closer.
So here is ten ball for the patty and puts it right through there so that'll tighten the gap a little bit 52 to 38.
Now the score here inside the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, this class five state football championship.
Well, there's no secret at all that they're going to be another onside kick.
They're going to look at King again, a 15 yard touchdown reception.
You don't really think much as a receiver because of his rushing totals, but he is a favorite target of Tyler Brown.
He's got over 500 yards receiving this year.
I mean, would you not want to throw it to the guy that can't stop it when he's got the ball in his hand?
So guess what?
Put the ball in his hands.
It's pretty obvious.
It's actually the second leading receiver on the team behind Hurts a good week of practice for both teams this week.
Harper Colquitt had a great Wednesday afternoon practice coach Bruce mentioned that Brookwood had a had a great practice all week long and both teams have come in here.
They've seemed pretty, pretty relaxed.
They've been a couple of mistakes here.
The Packers, they had had the snap over the Potters head, which hurts a couple of high snaps in the in the spread offense there.
But for the most part, it's been error free type of game.
It been a couple of picks and things like that, but just good all around football, that's what you want to see.
Well, here's yet to be played a perfect game and I'm sure that is looking back on film and whatever, see that there are some flaws and errors that take place.
But yeah, this has been a pretty clean game and you would expect that four teams at this level who are reaching it and you know, most practices you you tend to do the same thing over and over again.
But boy, what a terrific example of of how consistent these guys have been.
Both of these teams.
For coming this January.
Prime time politics and lawmakers join forces to bring Georgia news and current events every week.
Nine new governor, a new legislature, a whole new show.
You you're on watch weeknights at seven for all the latest in Georgia politics only on GPB and of course, Senator Saxby Chambliss, his hometown of Moultrie, Georgia, is being represented here tonight, Colquitt County at these state championship games.
And our first year at GPB in high def.
Folks watch a close up and here we go, Tindall with the onside kick right here.
Once again, though, that's Nick Moore who gets his hands on another one, as he did the time before.
They were all smiles here tonight, as we mentioned, was a ball boy back during the oh two in oh five title games.
Of course, this interception shy of the school record.
Here.
For Brookwood, he's got nine of this season total yards here tonight 609 to 386.
It's amazing to think Brook was up 5238.
Look at it, those numbers right there.
But 600 yards in a state championship game, it just shows you what we set up top here tonight, Harper, about how explosive both these offenses are.
Yeah, we're only about ten yards away from it being over a thousand yards for the evening combine with both of these two teams.
Colquitt has no timeouts left.
It's going to go backwards from there.
So we're not going to have as many as many yards.
But I'm sure we'll settle for having less yards with getting a chance to get a ring that stays on your finger for the rest of your life.
Unbelievable ballgame here tonight in the Brookwood faithful start the celebration.
Coach Mark Brewers and the Broncos are going to capture a state title.
Number two, what a job here tonight, though, by the pocket county packers.
They certainly have nothing to be ashamed of.
These guys have come out here and played well.
And we've got to break a lot of school records, a lot of individual records this.
Year, of course.
In the state title game for the third time and falling a little bit short here tonight, but nonetheless, a great effort by Coach Rush approach to this Packer team that is going to reload next year.
It could very well be right back here in the Georgia Dome playing for a state title.
Well, they've got a difficult region that they have to get through.
But I think this is going to leave a taste in the remaining guys that are juniors and sophomores and even the freshmen that attended the trip here, they were so close.
The team was take a knee one final time and that will do it.
The celebration is on for Brookwood as the final seconds roll off the clock and the 2010 GHC Class five state champions are the Brooklyn Broncos and coach Mark Crews 5238 The final score here tonight as the two coaches meet at midfield, they have a lot of respect for each other in their programs.
Coach Rich Probst, they talk with county Packers will finish as the state runner up and the Brooklyn Broncos will finish the season at 14 and one at state champions at Georgia's highest classification.
Unbelievable.
What a game here tonight.
Both teams with great plays on both sides of the.
And we saw a lot of student athletes showcased here.
We sure did.
There's some great athletes that have got to participate from a very early age in their life.
These respective programs, guys that have been playing since they were mighty mites in midgets and seven and eight year olds.
And here the culmination of that to get a chance to play for a state championship for whatever classification level and to get to do so against a quality opponent.
So congratulations to Brookwood.
What a great job and representation of Gwinnett County and and the whole state of Georgia.
Trophy presentation is getting set to take place here in a few moments as the teams meet at midfield to shake hands at this one.
And again, just an excellent football game here tonight.
You got to like the fact that these championship games are on GPB and we're able to showcase our student athletes across the the state of Georgia from from Dade County in the northwest corner of the state, down to Camden County, the south east corner.
It's just great to be able to see our student athletes showcased here on such a big stage, like the Georgia Dome, where there have been so many great events over the years where some of the Atlanta Falcons, the SCC championship.
But I tell you what, I put these high school state championship weekend right there with it.
It's a it's a great place to play, a terrific and Georgia State that's playing here now.
There's all kinds of reasons to come to the Georgia Dome and watch some terrific football.
And the way the Falcons are playing.
Obviously, the whole state, it gets to be involved with that.
And it's a real thrill and an honor for a lot of these kids.
They'll be taking their iPads and some phones and and taking pictures.
What a great place to play football and create keepsake.
They'll remember this the rest of their lives.
And speaking of the Falcons, it has been a good partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting and the GHC.
Of course, Georgia High School Association has done a great job.
More than 250,000 students participate in GHC activities each year.
Over 170,000 boys and girls compete athletics and an additional 84,000 plus students participate in debate one act, play and literary competitions.
And of course, we saw a lot of those folks here tonight, as well as our bands and so forth, have done a remarkable job all weekend right here live on GPB and inside this Georgia Dome, as you see the Brookwood Broncos and they begin the celebration right here.
We'll have a word with, Coach Crews, we'll hear from both teams as part of the championship presentations and celebrations right here.
What a night for the class five champion Brookwood Broncos.
One of the great things, the great traditions of high school that you really don't get to do at any other level is you get to hang out with your teammates a little while, have a little prayer, get a chance to talk to one another.
And now they get to celebrate.
They're walking all over the place and getting a chance to be a championship, a champion, and have that for the rest of your life.
One of the things that's interesting is these guys have made goals since the really last year at this time, maybe their loss, their last loss they had a year ago, and then they go spring practice all summer long in the weight room and the heat and the sweat, the tears and all the things that go on and to have it culminate with a championship in this building.
Just a terrific story that I'm sure these guys will remember their lives.
These fans as well that are in attendance here.
I don't think any of the Brookwood faithful make of the trip and Snellville here tonight has left.
So they are all right here to check out this championship presentation.
And you're right, it's definitely a year round celebration.
Well, right now, let's go ahead, throw it on down to the field.
A very own Gil Tyree standing by as we get set for trophy presentations Gil.
All right, Dan, thank you.
An outstanding call with you on Harp right here tonight.
The five A's state champion, Brooklyn winners over Colquitt, 52 to 38.
And they join now Sandy Gray, Clayton County, Chattahoochee and Buford, a champions of Georgia high school football.
Let's go upstairs to the Georgia public address.

Let's go.
Let's go.
They are fired up here.
The Brooklyn.
Broncos, Cameron.
Lynch camera lens.
Come back here for a second and just talk about what this means for you.
A senior, you go out on top.
It means a lot.
We have a lot of guys that bought in this year and I think all the underclassmen, you know, for stepping up this year.
And I want to thank you and my whole team.
We did it.
Mark Kruse You're on the staff 1996 now you're the head coach.
Talk about winning.
That's going to bring it at home to Brookwood.
Well, there's just there's so many things that go into the success of a football team.
Our whole community, our school, the support that we get from our teachers, our administration, our coaches did a fantastic job and our players have been working their hand in office since last December to be standing up here.
And I just couldn't be prouder of every one of you.
All right.
We've got another senior, Ben McClain.
Hold that.
Up.
Hi, Ben.
He's been down there already.
He left.
He took off strong.
All right.
Well, Coach, one final comment as we get ready to.
Go here, I know that everybody is fired up.
Just your final thought on winning this five eight championship.
It's just it's just, like I said, the culmination of just such a great effort on so many people's part.
And, you know, it's just it's just surreal.
Be standing up here.
It's awesome.
Well, congratulations.
The Brooklyn Broncos, the Class five AA state champions.
It's going to be a hot time in Snellville tonight.
Hey, man.
Now let's send it back.
To our Gil Tyree for some final thoughts on championship weekend.
All right, Mark Harmon, thank you.
Congratulations to Mark Kruse and his outstanding Brookwood Broncos football team as they wrap up.
