It's the 2000 to 5 eight girls basketball championship between the Meadow Creek Mustangs and Collinsville Lady Eagles.
And good evening, everybody, and welcome.
I'm Jim Pinocchio.
Eight games in the books, two more to go.
Both five eight championships still at stake.
Metal Creek comes in, has never won a state championship.
Meantime Collins Hill the defending state champions in five eight the two guys to call it the elevated from Decatur Herb White and Charlie Ward.
And Charlie, I caught you fishing earlier.
And I tell you what, it's paid off.
You've got a big one in the five eight girls championship.
And indeed, you ride both of these teams tonight looking to catch the big one themselves.
Jim, in terms of the state championship, Charles Ward, Herb White with the play call Herb a Ballgame, which features the Mustangs who have never defeated the Lady Eagles.
Yeah, kind of like a fight in the family, Charlie.
These guys are familiar with each other.
They've played three times this year.
And let's look at some of the key players in this ball game.
You have Amber Holt there for Meadow Creek Mustang.
She is a best all around player on the team, no doubt about that.
And she'll be a key player nicely averages 19 points a game and eight rebounds for the Mustangs and she's a six foot forward.
Also you have Sarita Twiggs another good all around player.
She's averaging 12 points a game, seven rebounds.
She also gets a couple steals a game.
She's quick for her size.
Those two girls are going to have to step up big time tonight.
Certainly they will.
As we take a look at the starting lineup for the mustangs of Meadow Creek in this ball game here from the Macon Coliseum, they will meet the Lady Eagles of Collins Hill in a ball game to determine who will be the five state champs in the women's division.
Charles, I spoke to both coaches about the fact they've played three times this year with each other and we'll get back to that in a moment.
Let's take a look at a couple of key players from Collins Hill.
There's Dany Kubik scored the biggest basket of her career the other night on with one second to go as she hit a lay up on the lob pass inside.
She's a63 forward on her way to Auburn, I believe 16.1 points a game 2.2 blocks per game.
So she's tough inside and she'll swat him away if you try to put him up in her face.
And then we've got Stacey Booker and she's the best all around player on this team for Collins Hill.
She's a57 guard, averaging 13.3 points a game.
And she shot 110 threes this year.
Nobody else on the team has even attempted 100.
So she's the one that likes to put it out from outside.
Certainly not afraid to put it up for the Lady Eagles of Collins Hill.
They've had good results, particularly against the Mustangs and Battle Creek.
As we take a look now at the starting lineup for the Lady Eagles of Collins Hill, Harris and Frye at the floor.
What's cubic in the middle woods and Booker at the guards for Collins Hill and this match up for the five championship Collins Hill probably a little bit deeper team than Meadow Creek Both of these teams barely got into these finals Charlie both of them with very, very close wins in the semifinals.
I was here the other night.
BALDWIN Again, a loser by one basket to Collins Hill and Camden, I think lost by a basket, too.
There's not a great play out there.
You see the road here to make.
And for Collins Hill, starting from the bottom with Baldwin all the way up top two with the win over Wheeler, a couple of fine clubs that they defeated on their way here.
But as you indicated, her, the big one the other night with a basket by Kubik to get them right here in the major coliseum tonight, U.S. starting lineups coming to take a look up Meadow Creek's road to Macon wins over Chattahoochee McEachern Stephenson in Camden County in particularly interesting the Camden County win in overtime yeah and both scores in the low forties for these two teams almost identical games of the night.
Let's tune in to the starting squad being introduced.
Yeah.
Have your attention for the starting lineup first for Meadow Creek and forward number 20 a five foot seven Senior Rebecca Ervin for Collins Field at forward number 34 and five foot nine Senior oh for a three at forward number 40 about a six foot two and hope for Collins Hill.
Add forward number 11 and six foot one Junior Chanel Harris for a creek at center number 34 six foot two junior Sarita three foot four Collins heel at center number 45, a six foot three.
Senior Danny Kubik for Meadow Creek at guard number ten, five foot six.
Junior Bono low cut for Collins.
He'll head guard number 31 five foot eight.
Junior Stacey Booker for Minner Creek, That's gone over 44 foot faster.
You've got to show Brooks for Collins Hill at guard number ten, a five foot six singer Melissa would net a creek is coached by coach.
There you have the starting lineup for both squads here to make them coliseum.
We'll step aside for a quick timeout when we come back we'll have the tip off at the five eight matchup for the championship.
Big four broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships on TBS.
Back live at the make of the Central Plex getting set to start the five eight champion of the girls division of that.
But before we tip it off, let's go courtside to Rob Prebble.
Rob Charles, you have to wonder what is it about Gwinnett County?
Whoever wins tonight's game between these two Gwinnett County schools will give the county three state champions this year.
Gassy won the title in Western.
He won the singlet.
And incidentally, Collinsville head coach Angie Hembree is going for a second state championship in just her fourth year.
I guess success like that is good for a measure of job security, don't you think that they agree with you?
Totally, Rob, as we get set to tip it off between the Mustangs and the Lady Eagles and are are five eight champs for the season, they'll be Harris jumping for Collins Hill and the Lady Eagles have the basketball first What's up top ranking right side inside but meet Harris with the kernels she left on the spin with Obama's fullback whistles inside that's Collins Hill's strength is inside there Charles they really got the two big girls that compound it inside and here you get another look nice lefty moves couldn't get it down but they do the foul cubic tissue She's good on the fast job.
Number ten draws Melissa Wood.
She is the toughest basketball player, a boy or girl I've seen in this state tournament in a while.
She's really gets out there defensively and gets into the ball game.
So Kubik converts on him and the Lady Eagles get the early lead, full court man to man, Preston Walcott, right side walking on the woods down in the corner.
Good pressure by the Lady Eagles early on here.
Brooks handles up top and the mustangs away away from the basket at the moment Walcott left side Irving squaring on Booker now down at the block he got it inside on the shot was correct but she's off the mark.
There's a pick back backside though by Holton Holt with her first two and we're tied at two Lady Eagles in the corner for three.
It's Booker, though.
Remmers off the mark.
But there's Kubiak inside spinning to the glass Defender falls.
Good for the Lady Eagles.
Somebody has got to put a body on her.
She's going to be follow up all night long.
Charles Kubik for all the scoring for the Lady Eagles thus far and I'm sure they'll take batter Walcott right side with the pass the books Brooks to the corner spins not the jumper up to the splitter the spin is off him on Iran's clear by Harris air coming towards across the time line back to Harris Norwood's crossed the floor he threw it away Irvin back the other way for the Mustangs point the length of the floor to the glass he shot at hard rebounds cleared by Brooks.
So back out she goes.
BOLT But the spinner in the cylinder and popped out of there loose on the floor so our bodies and there's a jump ball signal in between the players going to go matter Craig's way with the arrow and Brooks is really something Charles for Metacritic you look at her and say she didn't belong on the basketball court.
It's going to small and rotund in a way.
But I'm telling you she is a great all around basketball player really knows the game.
Angie Hembree, you take a look at her numbers, 96 wins, 24 losses as they inbound the basketball.
The Mustangs out front all caught behind the back and it's taken away by Woods.
Woods up the floor.
Trailing right side is five five back out to Harris the Lady Eagles reset the offense 131 zone for Meadow Creek inside the paint to the count on the corner Harris for three or out of there falls off an arc backside rebound though to the glass with a jumper that's good by Booker the one free run to help them in controlling the inside until the shot goes up Charles That leaves a lot of open rebounding for the offensive team.
The early start by the Lady Eagles forces the time out by coach Michael Ireland.
As we take a look at the replay back side with the jump it was booker she found the net.
Yeah.
You really got to get your wings on that zone to crash the board defensively are folks that come in from the baseline in the wing on the offensive board and make it tough on.
And as I was talking to you a moment ago before we got started, Charles talked to coach both coaches about those three games earlier in the year as coach Embry, I said, Do you think they're going to try something different?
He said, I would think they're going to try to come out and do some damage.
She don't think those games have anything to do with anything in this game.
I asked Coach Ireland, the coach a matter Craig.
He said, When you lose to somebody three times, you better come up with something different.
I said, What's the toughest thing about playing this Collinsville team?
He said, History.
We haven't beaten them.
And he said, We've got to come out and they need to get off to a good start to get that out of their mind.
Exactly why Ireland took the time out.
Let's go over to Rob Phil on the sideline.
Rob Yeah, Charles met a freak head coach.
Michael Ireland had one request.
Would someone please put a body on pubic shoe?
Six, three.
You got a knocker out of there?
Simple as that.
And, Rob, while we were talking to you, a turnover on the floor by the Mustang.
So the basketball right back to the Lady Eagles.
Yeah Amber hold intricate Triggs got to do the job inside and keep Luther off the boards down in the corner They give it to Frye up top now on the move it's taken away Booker had it, but guess who took it away?
It was Brooks Brooks with the three over the trick Brooks in the corner up top to wall Tyler with the jumper he hangs it home for the Mustangs Nice ball movement by Meadow Creek It's a two point lady Eagles lead Harris out front for Carlinville.
Now Watts handles right side of square three Got it to fall for the Lady Eagles.
She looked at it long enough, found the range and dropped it.
Full court pressure now by the Lady Eagles Walcott into the floor all the way through pass caught it Nice loan for the went right under her arm Charles at about 5 to 2 but never even saw I don't think another way of getting around a big obstacle going in a cubic back the other way fires a three pointer and rattles around and pops out.
They fight for the rebound.
It's cleared for the Mustangs.
Walcott up the floor now to hold not the corner.
It's the three pointer It's Brooks.
She got it.
The only ever to win it though not matter Craig doing a good job.
If they can get the ball up the floor before Collinsville can get their defense set with all that size, it's going to play in their favor.
Charles Nice transition basketball by the West Mustangs.
Here comes Carlos Hill.
Back the other way.
Quick for the glass crossers on the play.
Nice offensive play There are Woods throwing it all the way to the baseline.
Who back ends up with it in the middle.
He goes up 4 to 7.
We'll see.
Coming across the screen was Amber Holt.
They'll get her for the foul and pullback back to the line Nice pass by Chanel Harris she got the ball on the baseline never came down with it and fired it right in the middle The Cubans with a 55% from the free throw line in the regular season to come in here.
She missed on the first.
Kubik has already made her determination about where she would play college basketball.
You hit on the second she'll will tending Auburn University Walcott in the back court now for Meadow Creek woods guarding good match up here Charles Walcott got a ball handler and woods tenacious on defense Russell's on the penetration Woods got to close at reached in a little over aggressive No sense in making that play out there because even if he if he put in pressure out there it's not going to do much good.
So mustangs will inbound it all Court ball reset on woods once again another foul on woods as to reach and you saw both times he reached in with that right hand not a smart play but you warned me about her level of aggression before we hit the air.
You showed up there real tenacious player, but overly aggressive.
You want to move those feet, not be reaching in.
That's huge, because she is a big part of this, especially on defense for this college squad.
Jasmine Heron takes her place in the lineup.
Mustangs inbound, the basketball, they almost lost it.
The court handles on the move tapped out front Paul called on Chanel Harris Collins Hill get in a little that's her third personal We're only about three and a half minutes into the ballgame Charles Walcott back outside right side to Brooks looks for three short on the three point effort Iran's clear by Frye in the corner up the floor she goes for Harry Harris right side to Harris Harris in the corner on the move now as Booker down to Harris swatted away the defense to work down low by Irving Rebecca Irving giving up about five inches really got up in the air to swat that one away for the mustangs on the replay Harris all ball there Lady Eagles inbound it left corner now Heron back near the top right side to Booker with Frye in the corner knocked out of bounds by Holt Meadow Creek staying in that 131 zone defense is working fairly effectively so far Lady Eagles up top Aaron by Cory Booker the Rambler falls off the Bears pullback Saxophonist with the left hand off back to the Lady Eagles this time the rivers good by Harris two offensive rebounds again very difficult to rebound out of that 131 less days to play back the other way down in the corner Holt's tied up after some of those you missed to the Clippers for the Lady Eagles.
There comes Heron right side She works at Booker Man Booker running to her from ten runners off the market basket following the play and got the long run for the Lady Eagles and they're letting them play draws a lot of contact going on out here in the paint so it should be in a state championship leaders extending their lead now the all time back the other way runner for the glass it's off the mark rebound from the paint out of bounds that will stay with the mustangs Amber Hall doing a good job.
She's had her hands on two or three offensive rebounds, hadn't been able to put it back.
Brittney Edwards into the Lady Eagles lineup.
Also coming out with Ashley Williams for her spot at first.
But it is very similar to Triggs with that offensive rebound that in the hope inbound play most days what could in a quarter defense up top walk up and try to force it inside the hole and it's out of bounds and over to the Lady Eagles you're right Charles.
That was a force.
Nothing there except the turnover.
Danny Quick So far with seven points and four rebounds as the Lady Eagles look at their little floor left corner Edwards up top Nice all of pass down at the block They got a foul in New Orleans and she converts excellent execution on the offense Two quick passes in the bucket the mustangs trailing by eight now has to be some concern by coach Michael Ireland in the corner losses on the play all court is bogged down and in the corner and I call a foul on jasmine heron at a creek again a deep teams of the foul trouble is not going to affect them as much as it would some other squads.
Harvin in bounds it out hard to hold the right corner.
They try to get it down a little wall pocket.
They threw it out of bounds excuse me Collinsville.
All these Gwinnett County teams look the same to me.
Gerald It's all the same penalty.
Yeah, a minute.
12 remaining in a quick moving first quarter, eight point lead for the Lady Eagles.
They are the defending state champs.
Take a look at the turnovers mental state with twice as many as Collins held, I saw their work with Booker on a longer duration double violation Stacey Booker guilty of the travel needs to set something up this time down and get a basket here Charles gets back in striking distance here less than a minute remaining first quarter.
Holt brings it up the floor for the Mustangs, guarded by Harris, spinning down on the far wall to head back home, Bradley falls out of there.
Avon top four comes clear to the Lady Eagles, but they throw it out of bounds trying to set the break through.
Some tough luck for the Middle Creek Mustangs.
About three of those shots have rattled in and out of Lady Eagles on a seven nothing run over the last 3 minutes.
Not good news for the Mustangs, as you indicated, Herb, they were hoping to start and get a good start here in the center plex.
But right now they're struggling out front.
Brooks handles lost to dribble way up front now over the hold back the wall got 43 seconds from the three and hope dropped it for the mustangs that may spark from their Aaron back the other way at the sideline it was tapped out of bounds by a hustling Amber Holt so the Lady Eagles will reset it nice anticipation couldn't quite come up with the steal a little bit of a surprise here and now she's going back with Woods with only 12 seconds to go a gamble by coach Embry right now want to try to see if they can get another shot off.
As you take a look at the field goals, three point field goals each team with one lady eagles up front of woods down in the corner with 2 seconds left.
Booker lost it something the shot.
Booker lost it at the end of one.
It's the Lady Eagles 16.
The Mustangs 11 will step aside for a timeout and back with the start of the second funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching TV bringing you the best.
You're watching the HSA boys and Girls basketball championships on TBS after one the Lady Eagles of College Hill lead at 16 to 11 over the Mustangs of Metal Creek.
As we get set to start the second, I certainly heard that first quarter of basketball, the temple favored the Lady Eagles.
But before we talk about that, let's go to Rob.
Trouble that's courtside.
Rob.
Well, Charles, as eavesdropping on the Collins a huddle and you hear everything she wants to do revolves around getting 10 to 12 foot jumpers.
That's where they want all their shots to come from.
Take advantage of that size advantage they have.
That's what they want.
10 to 12 footers.
Aaron handles a lady Eagle offense to start the second quarter.
Two fouls by Woods forces her to the bench whistles on this play offensive foul I believe they're smart play as you mentioned with the 10 to 12 foot jumpers when you shoot the long jumpers Charles, you get weird rebounds.
When you shoot the ten or 12 footers, the ball usually stays around the basket and that plays into Collins Hill size.
The offensive players can go get the ball off the board and stick it back.
Lady Eagles to inbound it.
They do so in the paint.
The QB who became guilty of a travel violation a hard fall there by Amber Holt inside the paint she charged too, but she walked before she got the player down.
So a break actually for Collins in that respect.
Now Brooks will handle the basketball for the Mustangs across the timeline, walking on hair on the right side in the corner, the hope Pope dumps it down low inside to tricks, takes all the perfect kind of oh ball away jumper pubic right in her face 1613 Collins Hill lead as heron handles out front hospital on Brooks Nicely done running jumper from behind She missed Cooper had it momentarily lost it becomes clear to the mustangs Brooks and the back four if they want to run up to hold down coach this side right corner she finishes tricks with the jumper off the mark rebound down low women scrapping for it.
There's the wobble whistle jump ball possession error This time favors the Lady Eagles.
I believe.
Well, I wonder if they changed that possession area before.
It's certainly down and staying with the Mustangs again.
You're right, Charles.
They're getting the ball up the floor in a hurry and they're getting some good open 1215 foot looks.
Metacritic is again trying to set up before the large players can get up and Collins Hill Brooks for three hoops Brooks drops it for the mustangs and we're not at 60 Lady Eagles work it to Harris left corner woods back out on the floor for a walk on the right side at the post now and on the turn is Booker in the corner head fake for the glass she missed rebound back side and nicely done by Walton taking another look she missed two to fill the glass and finally finishes Collins Hill throwback is not only tall she's strong Charles got a good pair of shoulders strong legs she could throw and she's really going to be a force for Auburn through up right now fourth for the Lady Eagles they lead it by two Brooks what am I standing right corner Irving Irving up top to hold hold on the move for the glass He missed it the rebound back to hope second time around is good That's a tough shot from about six feet right in front of the basket but a soft touch put it.
No, Todd Once again, at 18, Woods penetrates the left side for the Lady Eagles.
Now up top to Harris on the arc for three shot an airball basketball for the Mustangs Battle Creek has been up late against Collins Hill this year.
I think coach Allen told me they're up six in the fourth quarter one of those ball games but somehow found a way to lose it.
Three ball games.
We're referring to the Lady Eagles.
One won by ten, another by five, and the final one in the Reader Region Championships by 15 Mustangs to hold.
Yes, only a two, but a nice looking to just inside the arc.
But she put it down.
Mustangs, take the lead.
Walcott right side for Collins Hill Booker on the move down low Got the land for the Lady Eagles excellent excellent penetration And then she was looking to pass the whole time as soon as the defense came to light it off to keep it.
So the Lady Eagles going in full court pressure after the basket.
But it's Brooks back for the Mustangs for another three pointer.
This one short rebound loose on the floor cleared by a hold She's tied up possession arrow this time favors the lady eagles so they get one out of every 333 great hustle by both players there Booker with a nice head fake got the defense to fly by Couldn't quite drain that three 435 remains in this first half a basketball feint a walk got back in for better Craig Butler Buffalo take a well-deserved blow absolutely towards half those three eagles not chasing on defense was lost it should have been a double there.
Oh unbelievably no call.
Well, for a right side for the Lady Eagles now on the penetration in the paint stops pops and drops for the Lady Eagles.
Well that's got to be disappointing for coach Ireland forced the turnover it wasn't called so the Mustangs have it in the backcourt Gilbert's got 11 now for Collins Hill and Holt's got nine for Metal Truth seven.
We're going to keep an eye on that matchup.
That's where they stand right now.
Walcott works at right side early.
Irvin to hold hold on the move past Harris hitting in left at short rebound cleared by Booker Booker wants to run down inside the paint out of control try to get it to Woods but they threw it out of bounds and luckily one of the Mustangs hit it on its way out.
So the Lady Eagles will keep it.
Amber Hall, Good hustle.
She put the shot it down the other was probably looking for contact, didn't get it, but then got back to the break up the play.
Boy, you can't get it even closer than that.
The field goal show the story, each with nine baskets out of 21 attempts What to Harris now behind the arc cross dribble down to the corner all the way through the first play in this you got to look like you on that one heard she got up a little higher that is Lady Eagles bye for now nicely done by Harris walking the baseline Walcott across the time line for Meadow three right corner to Irving and on the move now back up five Put it out front to Holt It a stay with the Mustangs Mustangs need a basket here Charles you don't want to let Collins Hill get on a run and get out in front.
Too far.
So they want to score and stay within striking distance.
Brooks will be checking back in a moment as Walcott handles up top for the Mustangs.
Not possible to her left, Bobby to get it to the post to hold Boston momentarily the three games Impressive man to man defense by Collins Hill Irvin walking right side try to get the jump up Schuster for the basketball good defensive work by the Eagles Harris in the back for the walks at left side as Booker takes her turn by little battle going in by the post number ten over here at the point guards not a freaking dollar for Harris on another penetration right side she blew right by Triggs but and so Harris starting to assert herself she got the basket Walcott back the other way for the mustangs now it's Fred now a six for the Lady Eagles down in the corner.
Irving took her off the basketball a turnover back to the Lady Eagles and they're going to get a timeout The Mustangs got to talk it over Brooks set the check in but before she does that the timeout was taken by coach Michael Ireland for the Mustangs last couple of trips down the floor.
The Mustangs, their own worst enemy.
And the difference is the field goal percentage was the same.
I think the Mustangs have probably hit a couple of threes, but all this, I don't think they shot a free throw in the ballgame yet.
And Collins has shot several free throws, so that's why they're up right now.
2620.

And thank you for your support of GPB six point spread for the Lady Eagles.
They've played this team three times over the course of the season.
Each time it's been the Lady Eagles.
Yeah that's a tough psychological barrier no doubt about it.
And you know Charles sometimes it can make it look sloppy because both teams know each other's offense so well.
They can anticipate and overplay the play you're trying to run.
And it makes it very difficult sometimes to get into your offense.
The graph on the screen really tells the story you're talking about the last couple of minutes.
This is a situation, another six zero run for the Lady Eagles.
They had a seven home run earlier in the first quarter.
So each they get that little spurt that allows them to create the separation as Harris misses on the jumper inside the paint and the basketball will belong to the Mustangs Coach Ireland calling out something.
They really hit a basket here just Walcott patient about a trip across the timeline.
I know it's still early in this ballgame.
It's only six points, but there's certain psychological factors in a ball game and it's you don't want to go in at half, be down eight or ten, that's for sure.
Particularly when you look at the history of this year between the three.
That's exactly Irv and right corner now at the Post she goes to post code pass Harris shot at hard missed on the backside of the rebound the wall to outside that looks to three she missed on the triple rebound at the block whistles on the play it's going to be better Craig's ball I think they said that it could have been headed up under the basket.
She take a look at the leading scores Kubik with 11 for Collins Hill Holt not far behind with nine from Battle Creek that was a matchup we thought will be important the ball game and right now those two players for well Irvin in the corner pressure once again and once again Booker takes it away Booker behind the back bounce pass at the block nicely done trailing still back left side whistles on the play they get it for the travel they had it set there her just could not execute it well they really look for her trailing on the fast break Woods didn't even think to score through the Kubik was going to be followed, turned around and threw it up in the air.
Devin and son of having played together for quite a while to do that Walcott up top for the Mustangs.
They are still in need of a basket as she penetrates Whiteside and an offensive foul Thanks they got Brooks for some kind of a strain there It's too bad because I think Melissa Woods was to pick up her third foul as she was beaten off the dribble by and Walcott but they called Meadow Creek first mustangs showing full court pressure now as Woods works it across the timeline threw it up the floor, running it down as Frye in the left corner, back up to woods up top.
She goes on the pass and out of Frye, right side.
HARRIS On the turn.
Booker Now Frye again whistles away from the basketball.
She's going to be on Sheree to tricks and crude but they're really having a battle inside and Teague's probably giving up 15 or £20 to Kubik and that was a tough call there because they're both flailing those elbows and forearms around pretty good in there.
Sarita picks up her third.
She'll have to leave the basketball game.
It was Kenny Thomas takes her place in the lineup.
Well, that's huge.
They can ill afford her to be on that bench in the second half because other than Holt, she's the only size they have really to match up in the.
Aaron checked in for the Lady Eagles she replaces Woods as Booker handles up top for Collins Hill right side with 9 seconds remaining inside the paint back to Harris right side Heron on the move pass Brooks Castro the nicely done to chalk the rebound to Walcott and that's the way the first half will end It's a six point lead going into the intermission for the Lady Eagles of Collins Hill lob triple then a walk over had some words with Coach Hembree before we go in at halftime Nice first half of basketball for the Lady Eagles related by six going into the break Rob trouble standing by what coach Embry Robb Well coach it's no secret what you like to do offensively why are you so tough to stop?
Well hopefully we're going to the boards and we got to go to the boards a little bit better than we did in the first half.
We're staying with them, playing tough defense, trying not to foul by and very aggressive.
We're going to definitely stick with that.
But got to go to the boards a little bit better.
Is it tough playing a team this many times in one year?
You know each other so well.
Well, didn't matter what's happened in the past.
We only have to beat them once and that's today.
And that's what we're concentrating on.
All right.
Good luck.
Second half.
All right, Charles.
All right, Rob, and thank you for that.
2620 is where we at the intermission.
We'll take a break and we'll come back with more from the making the central flex funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships on TV.
And welcome back to your championship weekend here.
And making halftime at the five Girls championship, Collinsville leads it 26 to 20.
I'm Jim Tanaka and we're having a good time here.
One and a half games to go.
That's it.
And then championship weekend will finally come to a conclusion.
But it's been a lot of fun.
We'll throw it downstairs now to Rob trouble.
Okay, Rob.
Well, Jim, I'm kind of in my natural habitat.
At least it was in high school.
I was always constantly surrounded by principals.
We'll start off with Ronnie Ford from Battle Creek.
Students get lit by athletics alone.
There's some academic things going on there, aren't there?
Yes.
We're really proud of our Science Olympiad team.
They won the region four for the third year in a row, and they're advancing to the state tournament at Emory for the last two years.
We've had the state champion in girl solo and literary.
And we're really proud of our fine arts program to have wonderful, talented children who are able to do so many different things.
To be honest with me as a principal, you cherish and treasure those academic awards little bit more than the athletic.
You can be honest.
It's okay.
I like it all.
I like seeing children succeed and no matter what they do.
This is exciting, but it's also exciting to see students achieve.
I'm a former math teacher and I used to attend those math tournaments, and those kids just got just got very excited about the competition.
They got to.
But everything's great.
I just really enjoy seeing the success of students.
What's life been like it of Creek this week?
Pretty excited.
Oh, very exciting.
The kids are just so talented.
The community, the staff.
Everyone's been behind us and cheering our ladies on.
All right.
Let's go to Kelly Krug, the principal of the largest school in the state.
A lot of people don't realize that.
How many students?
3800 and growing.
We're going to 4000 plus next year.
We're all these people coming from.
Is it all the new developments and subdivisions out there?
You have a very attractive part of Gwinnett County.
People live in and they keep throwing up housing districts and we keep receiving students on a daily basis, keep growing.
Is that logistically difficult to handle that many students?
It is.
But if you have the right resources, you can manage Well, barely you do because you were 21 School of excellence.
What is the criteria for that?
How do you qualify for that?
Criteria is widespread.
It covers everything from academics, extracurriculars and student life as well as community sport.
You talk about the football team had a great year this year, almost got to the state championship game and now basketball, I guess academics and athletics, everything's going well there.
You should have some job security, I suppose.
Well, we do.
We all do.
And Gwinnett County has a very fine school system and a great Pasco, Collinsville High School.
One of us is taking home the state championship tonight.
We're very proud of that for Gwinnett County.
Gwinnett County just brought it keeps getting better, too.
All right.
Well, thanks for both of your time.
Jill, let's get back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Rob.
And now, as we get set for the second half, we got first half highlights and stats for you.
So let's go downstairs to Charles White and her white guys.
Thank you, Jim.
2620 At the intermission, the Lady Eagles of Collins Hill with a lead over the Lady Mustangs of Meadow Creek.
Let's take a look at some of the first half highlights.
First for Meadow Creek, up and under a cubic, there was been a wild card with a lay and a tough one for the Lady Mustangs.
And here on the jumper from outside location, Brooks drops it for the Mustangs it kept it close.
But back on the other side of the floor you see the miss.
But here's Danny Kubik on the follow up for the Lady Eagles and she got that lay in.
But here a nice move on the penetration by Booker as she stopped Pop and she put it down for the Lady Eagles who lead it by six over the Lady Mustangs here in this five eight championship match up Herb some of the first half stats.
Yeah.
Charles not much difference there in the field goals three point shooting not really a factor.
Hardly any free throws for either team.
None exactly for Meadow Creek turnovers or even rebounds in College Hill favor and several those are offensive rebounds with stick backs and that's the difference in the ballgame.
And as you mentioned, Charles, 4 minutes and 50 seconds at the end of that first half, the second quarter, Meadow Creek did not score.
They didn't score a field goal.
And we saw they shot no free throws.
So for them to be only six down Coach Islands got to be feeling pretty good about his chances.
If he can not score for the last almost 5 minutes and still be in the ballgame.
As you look at the bottom of that stat there with that Collins Hill cubicle, 11 points and five rebounds, that's the big problem for Mental Creek right now is Danny's cubic work on the inside.
Yeah, you're exactly right.
And with Triggs now with three fouls, that's going to make it tough for them.
Hopefully she's going to be able to stay in the ballgame, but somebody has got to keep Zubac off the board.
Problem is Collins Hills guards and wing players are very adept at penetrating.
You got to pay attention when they penetrate and then they dish off the QB.
Back after this.
More from them, make them cineplex Funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching member supported TV, your PBS station bringing you the best.
You're watching the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships on TBS.
Back live at the Making the Central Plex at the intermission, The Collins Hills 26 Battle Creek 20.
We get set to start this third quarter.
A basketball certainly some adjustments ahead for Battle Creek.
Ah yeah and they've got to learn to find a way to score and again they've got to get the ball inside, hopefully get some free throws.
You can't go through a whole game without shooting in free throws.
And speaking of free throws, let's recognize our officiating crew tonight.
We have Randy Ogletree, Andy Burko, and why not Dandy Mark Williams.
And we've also got our buddy Frank Malloy, crack statistician tonight from Debbie Massey, Channel 13.
As we start this third period, take a look at the leading scores from Meadowbrook Middle Creek as Holt and Brooks at nine and five each for Collinsville Catholic with 11 and Booker with four, Mustangs with it.
They're under the floor and Ali working inside, but they throw it right over the pubic.
Turnovers were fairly close in that first half, but the Mustangs pick up the first one here.
So I'm sorry, Charles still in that 131 zone.
It wasn't their defense that hurt him, actually.
It was their scoring offense.
They need to find a way up top now for three.
It's Butler.
Yes.
She had a good square look and just put it down for the Lady Eagles.
The lead now is nine and a lot of the ball game We're all car walking right side bounce pass to urban Irving guarded by Booker up top It's Brooks now Brooks to Walcott trying to get it to hold at the post but they can up top they go instead to Irving Marvin's right side all the way through lost the troubled Walcott bounce pass in the corner Triggs on the move German to glass She missed backside rebound clear by Brooklyn Here come the Lady Eagles Booker handles up top the was now down in the corner and they give it to Frye working around the perimeter Harris in the corner now on the turn off Booker to the glass wide open for the and that's good ball movement against that zone Charles they working the 212 against the 131 because what you want to do and this could be big to back down grabbing that ankle take a look at it nice shot from the camera too Right on top of it.
Boy, everything on this College Hill team revolves around Dana Kubik on offense and defense.
As I looked at her, she's up on her own powers.
Looks like she wants to stay in the ballgame.
Well, she'd have to answer to Melissa Woods.
I guarantee you she got a little ball of fire is not going to let anybody take a seat on the replay to look at Booker only lay in this stepped on the ankle that brown player friendly fire zero mustangs inside whistles on the play Kubik a little bit slow after the ankle injury may have committed a foul I think they might have gotten in Harris reaching around their right I have every now and then Charles in fact that's the only one for tonight as Kubik departs.
Now take a look at her on the night 11 points, five rebounds, three of four from the line.
She's walking pretty good.
Looks like it's tight.
She'll be able to walk off.
She is now for the Mustangs to take advantage of it.
But on the inbounds play, they turn it over back the other way until the glass as Williams whistles down low shot fell off.
But she'll be going to the line.
They got that one on Amber Holt on fourth down.
Ashley Williams, a reservist for the Lady Eagles, turned on a fine quarterfinal ballgame for Collinsville against Southwest.
Southwest.
A calf came off the bench for nine rebounds and four assists as she misses on the first of two.
That's what I'm talking about earlier that Collinsville depth, Charles.
They've got a couple of players that played extensive minutes in the semifinals the other night.
Haven't even been in the ballgame yet tonight.
Williams for the second time she missed on both rebound pop for whistles on Willie trying to follow her own shot She commits to fail.
The word from our Rob trouble at sideline is that they're going to put some more tape on cubits ankle they should be back for more play take a look at it that's a sideline all you got to do as I mentioned it was camera who was right on top of it.
I hope Rob Tribbles not doing the tape job.
Oh, boy.
I know she'll never make it back.
They both ankles together.
Walcott up top for the Mustangs at the post they throw it away again Williams with a second turnover a steal for the Lady Eagles Woods across the time line in a hurry down at the block to Booker whistles on the play It was tapped out of bounds by the Mustangs a quiet 11 point lead for the Lady Eagles now Herb yeah good look ahead there by woods about half court Battle Creek had their backs turned to throw it over the defense Booker on the loose right side running jumper again memories off the mark XIV by Matt Williams over put back some but she's fouled Williams doing a good job as you mentioned Charles already getting in on the action with a couple of steals and a stick back there to draw her second time at the free throw line.
She missed her first two Irving commits to fall for the Lady Mustangs.
Williams Back to the charity stripe.
Now, there's some problems from the line, though.
Isaac Nice rotation, no results.
Still another run by the Lady Eagles on 11 hole run here in the last 7 minutes, 20 seconds.
So that put you back into the latter half of the first half in terms of that run that they've had most days have been awfully quiet on offense as New Orleans lets them both on the line about seven or 8 minutes of no scoring here.
Charles, for the Mustang, they're all kind of crossed.
The timeline might be a good time to try to get inside to Triggs or Hole now with the fullback out of the ballgame spotted by Harris on the span it was tapped away by Booker the whole three games.
Now she's tied up got it in the corner to Brooks for a jumper from three point range left to shore it's on the floor Walcott comes clear she was fouled and Battle Creek will be going to the line for their first free throws of the evening when Williams commits the foul.
Our second wild card to the line and that's what they have to do right now with Quebec out of the game Try to get inside, get the ball up on the backboard, and if you don't make a save, you're going to follow it.
Here comes Kubik.
Back in the game.
Walcott missed on the first production thus far four points and seven rebounds.
Take a look at Kubik down at the block.
Ready for work.
Walcott missed on both, but there's a rebound by hope to put back She lost backside rebound to shreds her off was off but they finally put it down post does it got five offensive rebounds on that trip Charles that's what they need Woods and the lady Eagles back the other way they walk it right corner to Frye try to bounce it inside to Harris She saves it Woods back up top left side she comes all the way through They lost a runner before she missed on the lay and no, but they'll get the rebound We call it backside She's got it down and she drew the foul.
That's what was missing in the Collins Hills offense.
She comes in, gets the backside rebound and the put back as you take a look at it on the replay definite foul there she'll go to the line two players on her and she still managed to stick it in and she's a strong girl So cubic for the three point play she rattles at home for the Lady Eagles.
Their lead now is 12.
Coach Pace on the sideline trying to work.
The officials still got to come up with something offensively hold the hand.
They are looking now on the floor working it back up time that defensive work back Jamal Harris all night long.
I'm here in the hole Holt At the left corner and she lost it out of bounds.
Tough match up for hold.
Amber Harris is a long, tall drink of water with those long arms and she moves her feet well, tough to get around her.
So the Lady Eagles with the basketball and we're going to get full court press as a metric right now.
This could either close the gap or it could blow it open.
Take a look at the turnovers metal Creek now at 12 Collinsville with seven words back the other way for Collins Hill in the corner bucket on the move past the all time running jumper from Kendrick she missed this one Evans cleared by Thomas and the Mustangs all fired across to time on the left side with the pass to Brooks looks at the post to Thomas Turner with the jumper shot off.
She couldn't try to shoot basketballs loose but at around Collins Hill.
Oh tough break there.
Look like that came off of woods but they're going to give it to Collins here so everything's going right for the Lady Eagles at the moment They take the basketball here.
Harris two, what about it?
333 remains in the third Collins Hill with 105 a chance.
WOODS Across the timeline left side all the way through.
She had another lane there, didn't take it up top.
She goes instead for five for three.
She shot it hard.
That's a tough matchup for Brooks.
Defensively to try to stop Woods as quick as a water bug out there.
Walcott up top now for another three double down in the corner He got it for you The trigger points with the jumper there almost off the mark Harris clear So the Lady Eagles throw it out of out zone Yeah Battle Creek gets some good looks at the basket Charles that's a wide open look right there and Triggs just couldn't get it to go down That's her shot to 49 remains now in the third hole to inbound it Alfonzo Walcott the lead or still 12 for the Lady Eagles is just not much of an offensive threat Walking away away from the basket Thomas right corner brought it by Booker.
Good defensive work.
They try to save it.
Woods comes clear with it for the Lady Eagles over to Harris Harris back to Booker Jumper from about five.
She missed it rebound to hold close with a two on to Ironwood's inside the paint spins to the glass Nicely done but it couldn't finish this was down low the rebound came clear to Triggs, a smart play by Holton.
She knew she had the smaller woods on her.
She took her time, made a nice spin, just got a little too hard.
But battle Creek will be at the last three to trade with the shooting to a timeout taken on the floor.
Charles We've got to give some credit for that Collinsville defense.
And like we said, they've played each other three times and Collinsville seems to know exactly what Battle Creek wants to do.
Plus they have the quickness outside and the two big players inside to nullify it.
When you get past it, you're a defensive player, so.
Well, I'm telling you, Coach Idle has got his hands full over there trying to figure out a way to get some points up on this board.
We've had a lot of ball games played here and they may make them superplex starting yesterday with some championships already crowned in the girls a division.
It was Wesleyan winners over Jefferson 65 to 49.
Taylor County defeated Claxton for the boys class, AA finals, 62 to 60.
All that's taking place on yesterday in the two way girls division.
It greater Atlanta Christian Weathers 55 to 43.
Everybody here was your winner yesterday in the two boys Wilkinson County 64 over the gator you had 45 yesterday three actually it was Mitchell Baker falling to cross keys and a great ballgame.
Cross Keys, your three champs, they went at 82, 78.
And earlier today, it was Swain's barrel falling to Northeast ways.
Moore led most of the way, but Northeast came back when it counted.
They wanted 62, 52, 61, 52 little girls were going to win Glen Hills over Hephzibah 6644 for you for a girls champs and in the ballgame.
Just prior to this, it was Westlake over Creekside, 6256 for the boys for a championship.
And while you were catching everybody up on results, Charles Sheree to Triggs making the first free throw and the first free throw for Meadow Creek of the evening ever state coming up after this one, Herb will do some double duty.
It's Wheeler versus Lakeside.
Well anticipated match up long as we're sitting here.
Why not five bucks missed on the second butler whistle on the rebound.
Basketball belongs to the Lady Eagles.
They have it in the back court.
But full court pressure now by the Mustangs cubit across the time line with the pass to Harris.
Down in the right corner, Williams back to pubic left side parts of the glass and she got the lay well when she gets just past you with that shoulder as strong as she is and as big as she is, very little.
You can do it, said Fowler.
And she can do it.
Both sides left and right side there with the left hand.
13 point margin now for the Lady Eagles at the block.
Carr to the glass.
On the other side is Triggs that is swatted away though that defensive work by the Lady Eagles and a good point Charles if you're going on to that next level and play college basketball, I don't care how big you are, you got to be able to use both of those hands and to pick as a fine example of that, Auburn will be getting a full, fully developed package when she arrives.
Mustangs with it fell to the floor, handles out front touched a minute 40 mark remaining in this third quarter Walcott working right side bounce pass the fourth quarter and immediately on defense but you heard the five Collins Hill has stayed with that aggressive man to man straight up man to man or lady, lady woman to woman, whatever you want to say, the whole game.
And it's been very, very effective.
Each player has been able to nullify the play they're guarding, and that really hasn't been able to get a mismatch anywhere.
Well, unbounded over the Walcott across the floor they go to Thomas Thomas head fakes back out the Walcott running jumper from 16 and she got it That was my ten my try to being politically correct cause I'm just going to let it go from self to stick with it.
I took her back the other way to Harris in the corner to rattles a 15 footer in missed Walcott players.
She's filed as she tries to come clear of the pack.
Well now this could be a factor I believe that six fouls on Collins Hill let's see well they've got him four Yeah that's the 6001 more will be being the one and one which could work in Meadow Creek's favor anything.
It's going to help when you're down 11.
So Holt will inbound it.
I don't think the two field goals in this third quarter and actually about two and a half quarters is more than that.
Sure.
After you get out of that second half of the first half of basketball on the move, some banks at home and she drew the foul was a soft kiss off the glass by Brooks there on the dead hard drive to the basket Boy a nice move on the left side of the floor.
Take a look at it.
On the replay, she was shoved, found the cylinder and got it to fall.
She'll go to the line.
And that's a big play right there, Lisa Brooks, to see her.
Yeah, that's the three point play and under a minute remaining 3628 Now full court pressure now the Mustangs Woods are closing the time line back to Harris and they give it to Booker across the top of Woods right side now picked up out front by Brooks up top they go to Frye Frye over to Harris Harris on the leave the bottom right side Frye up top woods pace on offense here by the Lady Eagles here They're going to hold it to the last shot of the quarter.
Charles Harris takes open up top chance and looks at the shot The game clock 7 seconds left now crossed the floor.
Booker and Chrome with the jumper thereafter a false start.
Kovac with the put back.
She got it for the Lady Eagles at the buzzer like she did the other night in the semifinals.
She gets one at the buzzer here at the end of the third.
The step aside for a timeout.
We'll be back with the final quarter and the five girls match up funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball championships is provided in part by the following You're watching the NCAA Boys and Girls basketball championships on TBS.
Back live at the Macon the Central Flex final quarter of the five eight championships for the girls right now.
Collins held leading it by ten over Meadow Creek Charles Ward and Herb Wise with the play off ten point deficit for the lady mustangs going to be tough to make up with Dana Kubik and her performance thus far with 18 points and seven rebounds every time the Mustangs try something.
Kubik is there?
Answer Yeah, I believe it.
Well, looks like they're going to go man to man now come out of that one, three, one.
But somebody has got to keep her off that backboard up on the offensive rebounds, girls all right side Booker handles for the Lady Eagles up top Harris on the left side now Woods at the post there's prove it with the spinner that falls good right Triggs And it's nice touch I mean that was not an easy shot She had to take the bank shot over the top of the square and kept it soft enough to drop through a 12 point lead once again for the Lady Eagles.
Walcott on the spin inside the paint passwords.
Nicely done.
She was tripped up inside by Corbin and met a creek.
Needs some more of that.
Take it inside scoop.
It's tough, but you need to try to get her out of there with some fouls.
She's got three right now.
Walcott on the penetrate she fullback with the leg out there and she drew the foul.
Oh they've got to penetrate to try to do that or maybe try to get the ball into Triggs or inside draw the foul.
And the only way they're going to win this ballgame I think, is to get Dana to back in foul trouble.
Walcott with six points and two rebounds he misses on the first free throw and of course it's all or not if he can't make the free throws.
Walcott had it converted on one all night.
She's zero of three from the line.
Here's the second better result there, one of four from the line for her, it's a 4229 Collinsville lead.
Booker a right side up top to Woods Brooks trying to create some pressure for the Mustangs left side now is Frye in the basketball Harris up top now they have to look at the block couldn't get it two of their own and that's the left side she goes to Harris Collins Hill becoming a little more deliberate.
Charles they had a couple looks they would have thrown earlier.
Now they're just going to turn that offense over and run clock.
Now they got a pullback inside to the block.
Pascal and she got the player.
They worked the offense very patiently.
And when they decide they're ready to get the basket, Kubik steps in a little, not that easily, but the results show it 40 to 29 Mustangs, whether they are under the floor now, left side on the move as Brooks head fakes jumper from ten in the paint.
The right spins in falls out Frye with a rebound pass out she'll take it the length of the floor Pascal fouled underneath Well maybe a little frustration there from Amber Hall but it was a clean play.
She went up strong with her.
Make sure she was going to score though.
It's drawn some reaction from the Collins Hill crowd, but it's a hard play to claim on the replay.
You see the players falling to the floor, chasing from behind.
She went after the basketball.
So all you can ask the apple to play her came over and checked on Harris to see if she was okay and they're going to call a flagrant foul here.
CHARLES They conferred and that's what they agreed to.
I think that's a little tough right there, particularly After the reaction of the play as it looked out of Harris's numbers on the night, just to call the official over, let him see it on the replay again, because she definitely went after the ball.
She went hard, but she went after the ball.
And Coach Eiland making that point, Well, he agrees with you, Harris For the second, she lost on the first.
BULLOCK Nine of 12 from the floor.
It's just five of five in the second half.
And that's going to give Collins the basketball again.
So that's very, very tough play from a break right there.
Timeout taken by Meadow Creek we talked about the importance of stopping cubit but right now Harps is five of five in the second half working the left block and the right block and effective on both.
Well she's just don't miss Georgia's longest running high school sports and academic show prep sports plus returning Thursday March 14th at 7:30 p.m. and beginning on March 30th prep sports plus moves to Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. right here on TV.
You still got that same ole host of that show.
It's that guy's name.
Anyway Yeah, Pinocchios.
Yeah.
Something on his right now.
And God knows the stuff he does on show as well actually comments on her.
Yeah.
Thanks to his producer Tom Brady.
Taking a chance on the great show.
Hasn't been the same since.
Tom Brady is going to be honored by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association coming up sometime in the spring.
They're going to award him the Dwight Keith Award.
And it's you know, it's the service for high school sports.
And Tom Barnes deserves that about as much as anybody with all the work he's done in the last ten years or so to bring high school sports to where it is today in the state of Georgia, that'll agree with you more that we should get a table for that of a lot of schools, communities, Kids have gotten a whole lot out of the televised events on Georgia public television, from prep sports plus to the championship after the time out lady ideas and bound to harass at the blocks missed on the lay and Holt cleared for the Mustangs up the Walcott.
Yeah.
We're trying to work on our job security.
Yeah.
How did we do it?
Not that time, Walter.
How On what's 608 remaining in the ballgame?
Unless they work up to Thomas back on defense.
Thomas threw it out front Woods, took it away on the steal.
Nice anticipation.
Woods across the floor to Booker.
Booker down to the glass.
She got the lay and Frye went for the steal booker went to the basket That one hurt now it's a 16 point lead 545 almost insurmountable Brooks will handle for the Mustangs the Frye spread on defense.
Now all Walcott spins to the right lost to dribble out Find over to hold now hold up Tom all five working on the left side to hold on the penetration left corner running jumper rattler falls off rebounds cleared by the Lady Eagles woods down at the block Booker turns to the glass is spinning false good for Booker but they're starting to take on a lot of the work offensively for the Lady Eagles the last few minutes Booker very athletic player gets up in the air can hang for just a little story this game Charles Danny quick on offense and the Collins Hill defense shutting down better quick to this point now they're paying so much attention to quick now Booker starting to get through Irving on the move with the jumper she was fouled on the shot for less than 5 minutes remaining and again you can see the frustration on better players because again every time they try to run their set, Collins Hill seems to be there before they even get the play started and it's very frustrating for them.
Whereas Collins Hill has Danny Quick as an outlet when they have a problem with their offense, you got that big player, you can toss it into Irving this time, the free throw.
She will have another coming.
Ashley Williams back out on the floor for the Lady Eagles.
She replaces Danny Kubik with number 42 remaining.
Take a look at Irving's numbers, eight points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Those are averages on the season, she at second she got back Don't expect that to be Kabak's last appearance in the state championship ballgame 442 left.
We'll see if she comes back out.
Laura Levey checks in for the Mustangs.
I believe for the first time this season, try to inbound it in the back court over the Booker.
It's full court pressure by the Mustangs drive of Booker lost it up the baseline basketball over to the Mustang 1 to 2 zone press and Collinsville a tough time to press it just very disciplined actually turn that one over without any pressure timeout was taken by coach Embry and the Lady Eagles with 436 remaining.
Well, Charles, before you ask me, I'm going to ask you if you're Coach Harlan, what what do you do at this point?
So should we switch headsets then?
I answer, Well, I didn't have an answer if you ask me.
So I thought I'd beat you to the punch.
Well, you did get me.
Well, you just have to say Collinsville again.
Kubik is just which very, very dominating inside.
And she always is there on offense.
If you got to have somebody to throw it to and they can work it off of her.
And quite frankly, the Mustangs have some good players, but they don't have that dominating inside player.
They can really go too, and it's hurt them and Collinsville is man to man.
Defense has just been all over the Mustangs this evening.
I see.
I answered your question with very little after the timeout mustangs with a basketball all court out front left side to Brooks Brooks between the legs on Thomas now back up top to earth Irvin at the left baseline running jumper from Tammy nicely done by Irvin in the corner full court pressure Brooks takes it away and it's stolen by Walton Walcott in the corner to Brooks with the jump off In case you missed it though rebound comes far away.
It's finally cleared by Booker and the Lady Eagles whistles on the play They'll get Brooks for the foul could have been a travel there but they call the foul on Brooks instead but one good thing for coach Ireland Charles is he knows if he ever wins his region he sure got a good shot at winning the state championship parade and champs Collins Hill and they defeated the Mustangs at Metal Creek Girls basketball in Gwinnett County.
Something else up there, it's a little late to the county schools here as the news media and anarchistic think of what at all a part of the playoff picture this year.
On one town, Harris handles out front for the Lady Eagles up top to fly off Booker whether looks I saw it fly Lady Eagles he's pulling the clock Booker up top now on the penetration left side running jumper she banked at home for the Lady Eagles very relaxed on their offense now Charles with that lead they just got to run clock look for the very very good shot 4932 now lead by the Lady Eagles 315 remaining on the move Walcott left it I'm a southerner with a runner is she got it.
Wow what a play by Walcott right up and over.
Kubik and Walcott should be over about five two, I wouldn't think.
However, listed at five feet five job on the play on the inside only giving up 14 inches when she picked it up on Duke.
It works right side for the Lady Eagles.
They lead it by 15 down at the block.
That's perfect for the lay and for the Lady Eagles fullback has simply had her way then saw it in the ballgame now with 24 points on the night and a timeout taken by coach Michael Ireland and the Lady Mustangs.
And it looks like he may get some players in the ballgame that haven't been in 2 minutes and 32 seconds go down 17.
And again, Danny Kubik dominating this game.
She's got great hands to travel.
She's she's fundamentally sound.
She sets up in good position.
She makes a big target and she handles every pass.
She hasn't bothered to pass yet.
All the markings on the D1 basketball player.

And that's the challenge to everybody across the state.
Help the kids out by joining GPP after the time out wall by quickly going to go as she missed on the jumper Booker clears for the Lady Eagles for two words whistles in the back court.
She is fouled by Laura Levey.
All right.
The Mustangs of Collins are the Lady Eagles, the Collins Hill fine fourth quarter from the floor her they went six of seven.
But when you're shooting it right from the block on the lands by Kubik you can do that but in the back court another whistle was called on Lucretia Brooks turn to 20 remains here this five a championship one of the four lady Eagles looking to repeat one was a girls five eight champs in the state as Woods goes to the line she's a senior she's five five.
You're seven two.
Charles she converted on the first but boy, she is a competitor.
Take a look at her performance tonight.
Four points.
Bigger category is the assist.
Yep.
And she just runs the offense.
Does it turn the ball over and gets after it on defense.
She got them both from the line out front.
Now their concentration in her eyes just unbelievable We're all kind of Evans got it to to check in too with a running jumper to the center she's good two for two that works Harris with the inbounds play now the Lady Eagles full court pressure by the Mustangs.
They haven't given up whistles in the back door two is to two and she drew the foul too bad because she created a turnover as well.
BROOKS checks back in now is that her first and last name on her jersey as well as her?
That's what happens when you get the 17 point leads like the game.
Just you've been hearing a lot Harris to the on the shoot she missed on the free throw but a whistle down low Brooks might have been over the back there are two excuse me for here so we go back to the other end of the floor a minute 50 remaining.
Well have the automatic two free throws here and the lot of fouls for Collins here, but it really hasn't hurt them.
Mental Creek has not really been converting a lot of the free throws they've had.
Bolt Oh shoot, she got the first and there's two to back out on the floor.
Christina to where she replaces Lakisha Brooks has taken her seat in this ballgame missed on the free throw but the basketball for the Mustangs over the wall to block the jumper whistles down low shot was off the foul was called back to was holding Chanel Harris coming up after this one we stay planted for the men's five a matchup featuring the Wildcats of Wheeler and the Vikings of Lakeside.
Well the good news for the Mustang fans and the coaching staff, three of their starters are juniors.
I'll be back year so we can expect to see another highly competitive team out of the Mustangs.
And of course, Collinsville.
You figure them to reload as well with all that bench over there.
That's the bad news for the Mustangs.
Harris missed on the free throw skying for the rebound was Trent Collins with 3800 students.
More than some small colleges hold works it in the front court left side to Walcott Walcott spins on the works to the glass got it to the center.
Shot that off.
She'll go to the line though for the mustangs and Coach Embree still concentrating it into the ballgame.
He completed 5337 all shot list on the first narrow Creek.
Certainly didn't help themselves much from the line tonight as you look at Walcott's performance, nine points and two rebounds, he got one of two men at 29 remains woods across the timeline alley oop download of Booker and they threw it away even with a 15 point lead in minute 22 Coach Henry letting her know about it and stay within the element.
So the Mustangs have the basketball.
Allcock, one of the returning players for next year, works it down on the corner to Irving Berlin on the Leap.
Hope for three at the front of the senator backs on backside rebound to Danny Cuban Put it towards a minute Six left whistles in the back court Well they're going to try to put him on the free throw line, hope for the miss and shoot the threes.
Charles But that's a lot of hope.
And with a minute and 5 seconds to go, do they really looking forward to this upcoming matchup with Wheeler and Lakeside?
Of course, Lakeside the only team to beat the powerful Marietta squad this year and had a beat Wheeler twice.
But I got a good look at Wheeler the other night.
Charles, I'm telling you, that's a very, very good basketball to find athletes on both sides of the Florida Sun coming up with Raheem Crawley and Green for the Wildcats and Lakeside with Register, Williams and Strickland.
Yeah, and a lot of action above the rim so stick tight folks are going to enjoy it.
Woods converts on one of the free throws from the line minute remaining in the ballgame.
Collins Hill appears to be on their way to extending their state title as Walcott's Walcott got the running jumper ten feet away.
Kovic in the back court whistles on the play.
She was fouled so the fourth time around for the lady Mustang which results in the same outcome as the previous three.
Yeah I guess Coach Ireland won't think it's a fluke in half.
Yeah.
Four times around you've got to start believing and a lot of reason he's believing is right there at the free throw line.
They did not have an answer for Danny Kruger, so he's going to have a lot of film.
He can watch and see what he needs to do for next year and he's had some here in the last few minutes spreading the floor out with some pressure and missed some of the pass.
When plays and Coach Hammer is going to take out some of their starters gives a big hug at the sideline to Stacey Booker as she comes to that bench fine job as most of those starting players for the Lady Eagles coming out now timeout was taken by Meadow Creek Pubic Frye and Melissa Woods.
All seniors Janelle Harris and Stacy Booker will be back next year for Collinsville.
So the Lady Eagles ranked number four, defending five eight champs and will retain their title.
Yeah, fine job.
They just played the back ball game within their element and simply too much for the Mustangs.
The instances they had.
They need two big players in the SCC probably the toughest women's basketball conference in the country Charles and probably the best men's basketball conference in the country this year.
Tough day for me yesterday both my bulldogs Georgia loses in the early afternoon then my Decatur Bulldogs lose in the evening it was a tough one.
It was kind of tough to get out of bed after that.
Well, a great season for both of them.
Coach Harrick did a great job at university and Carter Wilson, a great family.
He played with my brother on a state championship game a decade and just done a magnificent job just a second year dictator.
And I look for more good stuff out of those guys.
When we put John Nelson on the hot seat tonight with the Vikings and Lakeside.
Oh, that's right.
Yeah.
Would an outstanding score there.
At one time he talked about what the girls must have been on the court if you ever gotten a good look at him cubit converts on the free throw and now the party of the game is running at five.
And Melissa Wood for the Lady Eagles, they have two seniors, two state championships to.
Take with them Walcott back the other way, all the way through uncontested races at the line for the Mustangs.
There's 40 seconds remaining now.
Lady Eagles with an in the back court Mustang still pressing, though.
Now on to the four.
Harold handles the basketball.
Brooks commits to foul.
Brooks has picked up her fifth and she's a competitor a heck of a basketball player just so Brooks a senior.
We close the book on her with a fine performance for Meadow Creek tonight and standing ovation from the Meadow Creek crowd in recognition of her years of service to the school.
No one saw jubilant consolation on the other area from the line and Spinner falls out on the first and cool that now getting her fair well that coach is going to have to go to the drawing board next year.
When you lose somebody like that, that can put a big hole in your offense and your defense is apparently missed on.
Both free throws.
Rebound was clear at the bottom of a out that's Walcott 25 seconds Walcott stops and she missed on the jumper rebound inside to Whittington and whistles on the play Mustang's not going to go down easy get this margin down to 14 As you mentioned, I think it was a 15 point game the last time they played and pretty good stats for that.
26 points, eight rebounds, probably shot about 80% from the field for the ballgame.
I don't think she took a shot outside the paint.
And why would she need to average steam per ball game on the regular season except that by ten in the finals?
What do you see when she gets into those scores book here?
The five eight championship, the free throw one more coming I put her down for two nice looking stroke there couple of substitutions had it on the floor now for the mustangs in a span of all court the junior but coach Ireland will take a seat Charles I thought if I was ever going to have chance to get an old clip played like you had in the football game, it would have been when my old Team Potato was playing last night that I just knew it was coming out never happened.
So in other words, you got this tied to Big ten and 13 from the floor.
Tonight's ballgame, right side for the Mustangs, a one handed push by Brown.
She missed rebound the hair and just 8 seconds and across the time line they work the basketball lady Eagles to a5a chance they work it down on the block fired up and there's the buzzer they won it 58 to 42 and they repeat as state champs in the final divisions for the girls division and more.
Another great ball game, Collins Hill just played about as perfectly as you can ask a team to play again the fourth time they've beaten Meadow Creek.
This year and Better Creek has just got to be frustrated.
But again, several returning juniors for next year, they got a lot to look forward to, Coach Embry said.
It was quoted by saying it was hard to beat a team four times.
They do it.
Let's go down the coach side with Rob, Trevor, Rob When the winning head coach, Angie Hembree.
Angie, their coaches that have been in the state for 30 years and haven't won two titles, you've done it already.
Is this supposed to be this easy?
It wasn't easy.
That's been one of the toughest years of my career.
These kids bad feelings, my pressure on them and they have come to play every night, 33 games worse.
They deserve this sound and worked so hard.
I love that great seniors send the best bunch of kids you ever want to be around.
They deserve it, and I couldn't be more happy for them.
And you know, I feel blessed and lucky and I'll tell you, they work hard.
We go celebrate.
You just summed it all up right there.
Congratulations, Charles.
Back to you.
And thank you, Rob.
5842, the Lady Eagles of Collins Hill, they repeat past eight champs in the five AA division.
Just a dominant performance by.
But down inside the paint.
We'll send it over now to our gems Pinocchio Jimmy Charles thanks very much Herb White good job as Rob dribble as well did a fantastic job That's it Collinsville wins it that's three Gwinnett County teams champions this year and 22.
