Live from the Arena at Gwinnett Center, it's the 2007 GHC state basketball championships tonight.

Class five eight takes center stage as the South Gwinnett Lady Comets in 2019 to take on the defending champion Collinsville.

Lady Eagles at a perfect throw and ran.

I'm Dave Gardner with you back here live on GPB as championship weekend rolls on.

Class five, of course, up right now the boys match up in our nightcap, but right now the ladies are taking center stage and it's going to be a good one between a talented lady Comet team taking on a Collinsville pro.

Graham nationally ranked number one throughout much of the season.

It's going to be a good one of the two guys here to call it Stu Clyde Teaneck and Cory Kessler.

Guys.

Dave, thanks very much.

I'm standing by 10:00 with my buddy Cory Kessler.

And not only is it the number one team in the country, the number one player, will it be a coronation of one of the all time greatest careers in Georgia basketball history, boys or girls?

Or will it be one of the biggest upsets in Georgia state history?

Let's start with the South Gwinnett team, Corey and any other year, 2019 two, they are the super team.

They've got some super talent.

Absolutely.

And it starts off with Antoinette Howard.

She averages 15 points a ballgame.

She can get the job done.

There you see seven boards at three and a half assists.

There's no one real star other than Antoinette Howard.

It's a collective group effort.

They have not lost a region game in three years, folks.

Remember that stat right there.

Other players to look for Winchell.

She is going to Florida.

So many good players on the team.

But like we said, no real superstars.

Like we're going to see in Maya moore.

We're going to talk about that team in just a minute.

Of course, talking about College Hill.

Well, we're going to talk about Collins Hill right now.

The number one team in USA Today.

No team from Georgia has ever finished a season in girls basketball, number one, Collins Hill, when they do that, what a career for Maya moore, the number one player going to UConn.

She can absolutely do it all.

Absolutely.

She's got 27 points a game.

She can just do it all, folks.

You're not going to see a player like this too often.

Maybe once every ten or 15 years.

She does have a supporting cast, but she is the star, not only here in Georgia, she is the star in the United States of America.

She's a McDonald's all-American.

Watch for her at the next level and beyond.

Nike or Visio, she's the first name you see on that list.

She's a point guard who can hit the three.

Jordan Jones is the third name you see on the list.

She hit seven three pointers in the semifinals.

And of course, Taylor Dalrymple, she is the daughter of Bruce Dalrymple, who used to play at Georgia Tech.

What a matchup it is.

What a night it is for a high school basketball, five, eight championship girls basketball.

Coming up, let's meet the starting lineups at guard up by seven senior number 11, Alex Windchill at forward a five pin senior number 21 Emily Clark at guard five nine senior number 22.

Mandy duties at forward a five pin senior number 32 Lindley USA and that forward a 511 senior number 42 and one that our South Gwinnett is coached by Mike Allison on center.

Now let's meet the starters for the Collinsville Hill Lady Eagles a little bit of that guard I'll five six junior number 21 Nikki Beasley at forward a59 senior number 31 Chuck Keita Ritchie that forward a six foot senior number 32 Maya moore at guard up high makes senior number 33.

Jordan Jones It's and that's sitter six one.

Juror number 42 Taylor Dalrymple Collins Hill is coached by Tracy Tipton five, a championship girls basketball.

In a moment, will history be made by Collins Hill?

Are they the best team in America?

We shall find out.

I wouldn't want it any other way than to go against the number one team and the number one player in the nation.

And he said, no matter what you win, the trophy is going to stay in Gwinnett County.

And still he had it.

One more thing he did say this year it's hard to.

And that is what is ahead for South Gwinnett.

There are good at center here in Gwinnett and the team controlled by Collins here in the white it is south Gwinnett in the blue starting man to man.

Here we go just on way.

There she is, Maya moore, player of the year in the United States.

And you can see why she takes it to the.

Absolutely.

She's going to establish itself early on and show that she will lead them to another state title, this third in the last four years.

If she can get the job done.

But there you go.

The answering right side looks like her dad used to be able to shoot it and grew tired of two too early going.

This is a juggernaut at Collins Hill and they have won four of the last six titles going for five of the last seven.

They are a dominating team with a dominating player so far, looking around, trying to get it inside.

Very patient, both team starting off hot from the field, shot off the good You got control by control back up to yes you know who and so far Georgetown hero four points for Maya moore who is averaging just over 27 a game.

This team is so fundamentally sound inside and out, they will look for the right pass.

They will look for the right shot.

They are well-coached.

They're the number one team in the country.

And that's why South went up to have to respond inside with no good off the rim and rebound controlled by the Lady Eagles running and looking for the break it's it's there and personal here it's up with the jumper and no good but look who's there for the rebound off and good mile no good rebound still controlled by Collins three pointer taken quickly and south Gwinnett controls what teams look rather loose First state final Yeah they really do You know Collins Hill has been here before so it's up Gwinnett it's a rematch of last year's state title game.

They both know how to get the job done.

Something that hoping the results are different than last year and a team intimidated with the long jumper off the rim and into the hands of Maya moore.

We'll be saying that a lot tonight.

And this team likes to run the three pointer off the rim so far comes here controlling the boards but not the ball on that play.

Both teams trying to feel each other out right now, See what looks they're going to have to know.

Maya moore, what else do you have?

Maybe that's one reason why you don't see many nerves here.

Everyone seems calm.

They're just doing what they do and they know how to do.

Howard all part of the family, her sister three years ago, part of a championship team that South Gwinnett both good and early going for the championship for Fort Collins here in south Florida.

Glad you're with us for what should be an exciting game tough Gwinnett trap giving and countering early going some problems and there's coach South Gwinnett Mike House he's done a fine job of match of the season 29 and two south to hang on to losses and of course Collin Hill undefeated good pressure by south Gwinnett on the break looking for the up and in good hustle by Maya moore not one she scored I don't think she because a little hustle not only is she a great player she is so fundamentally sound as this entire team is.

She's humble.

She shows a lot of humility.

But back to her pass watch for that between Taylor Dalrymple and Maya moore.

Speaking of terrible makes me think of Bruce which makes me think of Georgia Tech, which makes me think of Bobby Clemons, who was in the stands doing some early scouting.

This is why you called her up and no good but you have to like the poise her head is always up looking to pass.

I tell you what, Howard can play too can just run it off the field.

She can look at the dribble by Taylor down with it.

This is going to be an up and down game.

And I will tell you why they left.

Both coaches, their big folks and the great pass inside lead the ball great look by Taylor down triple inside for the bucket They all keep their head up they don't look down at the ball when they're dribbling.

That's what impresses me the most.

So Ritchie finishes off and Collins doubles up south.

Get out early going eight for the score in this five championship madam and for Collins here and the there's the shot it means he got and it was good and then they'll have to hit those shots to keep the defense honest They'll have to extend and defend that jump shot from 20 feet in in And there's a turnover on software that will take advantage or at least that helps in 56 left first quarter than it has been up and down The number one team in all of the country in women's basketball right here, the Lady Eagles 30 In-A-Row going for not only a Georgia state title, but a national title by USA Today back goal for the best team in the country.

Nicely done.

The work week is in there for the easy way out.

So we go to Florida.

But the thing I like about that play was the back to work was a travel on Taylor down with him at the back door.

The fundamental soundness of both teams south to that on that play to get the layup it is very early but I saw this happen last year in a game where a team went undefeated.

The longer you stay with a team that's undefeated in a perfect season, no tighter.

They may get thinking about that first loss.

You can see another back to work.

They're still fundamentally sound.

Both teams control the game by Collins here a long three pointer they know not shy about taking it and that's a big deal.

Nick whenever Visio will hit that shot at one point this season, she had ten straight threes 11 take Collins Hill up by three.

They come right at you, right back at you.

She can absolutely fill it up and you can see that this team is, of course, Maya moore, but not just her.

When you have an outside shooting team like that, it makes it that much easier inside South Gwinnett trying to operate a little inside.

There's Howard, there's the All-Americans matched up and so far I am impressed with both.

Nothing to be unimpressed.

Went to the hole and controlled by the Lady Eagle dangerous pass and the foul by quirk both teams looking retro.

The thing that impresses me, Steve, is Maya moore.

I think they complement each other.

It's a team effort, but the coach Maya looks to make sure teammates look back to her and they complement each other.

And that's why the country, not only Georgia, knows about this.

COLLINS Her team well, there's the coach has to try to figure it out.

He's figured a lot of things like Mike Allison, head coach, South Gwynedd Council controlling the boards 17 to 4.

That is going to have to get a lot closer as Maya moore misses a shot and South Bend does control.

But 17 to 4 now 17 to 5 on the rebounds that do not hold up south threat try to win the state title for the first time since 19 9509.

And does Maya moore says no that's like that is one of those boards where I think she just actually just caught the ball and controlled it.

That's a very good point.

What I like about both stars on either team more or Howards both are letting the game come to them.

Absolutely that shows trust and belief and confidence in their ability and their teammates ability to get the job done, letting the game come to them, not needing to force it.

South Gwinnett will start things off in the second quarter with Winslow leading the way and McKenzie around the horn.

They go looking inside.

Good work, good passing shot not to do McKenzie rebound and no good and Maya moore with the rebound as the Lady Eagles try to go on the brink then they'll pull up and take it out without any hesitation, which I like.

And they'll always look to one look to get it out on the break.

Maya misses it inside, but you have to like the fact that they're always looking up, looking out for the break.

He goes back on defense to superbly coached, superbly conditioned and just great players on each team of scientists out tonight.

Let's see if it's all thanks to the defense.

It looks like it will be a foul and a defensive foul on Richie for everything we expect and more from the part, of course, there's Coach Tipton.

She was a point guard herself when she was the JV coach here.

She led them to two undefeated seasons as the J.V.

coach.

And that was only a few years ago that you absolutely chance on Saturday.

Maya moore gets it outside, three pointer up, three pointer thing that's important to notice about that is that was a designed play.

If Maya doesn't have the jump shot, she knows to look right behind her.

You break it down, you break it down and halves of corners stay with them.

This 4 minutes of this quarter, the second half and that's what South good at is doing when you get down inside to the hoop up and no good and it will be South Greenwich ball Walker had a good drive good drive for Gonzo but television couldn't finish the layup as usual.

A Girl's championship Basketball.

I'm struck by tennis.

My partners Corey Kesler, and it has been fun all day long.

It will continue long into the night and into tomorrow.

But rare is the chance that you get to say you can watch the best girls, right?

Why so far?

Basketball team, high school.

And it was in the nation.

It's what you work for all season, not just to be number one in the country.

Everybody would like to see their number one team, the country.

They're part of that team.

But you work to get to the state title game.

Both of these teams were here before South Gwinnett looking to avenge a loss last season.

No intimidation factor Clark looking under looking out nicely done basket is good and that cuts the lead to five now some backcourt pressure put on by South Cav looking to the middle to Maya moore which is a good place to look.

She brings it up she settles it down and the Eagles reset.

Good defense on both parts.

Maya moore trying to post up underneath inside to Darren dribble up and good and that is a12 punch that is just such good coaching and good footwork by Taylor Dalrymple.

They know where to get the ball into her.

She's looking for Maya moore.

She wasn't there.

She took it herself when she was trying to set things up.

The playmaker for South Gwinnett inside to Clark Clark now goes to the other side, tries to put it up, tries to put it in.

She'll go and shoot two.

I'm impressed with self with that's confidence there They're taking they're playing the Eagles the Lady Eagles straight up man to man, as opposed to going into a zone and collapsing on Maya moore.

They're playing good defense, still down by seven.

But you have to appreciate the confidence.

What I like about both teams are they realize their stars as it is all season long.

We'll get double team.

So what is happening?

Clark is getting some easy chances at the basket for South Gwinnett.

Daryn.

Put some easy chances down on this end.

Yep.

For Colin Powell.

And it's also a tribute to the how fundamentally sound they are.

They're they're great passing teams, both of them, not just college.

So South Gwinnett is a very good passing team as well.

I was looking for the backdoor cut south Gwinnett getting some back for pressure from south of getting some backcourt pressure There's Maya moore Nicely done Nice combo good And that might be over the back and it is by Tyler Jericho for the team so so far so good And here's the box out there is dribble going right over the back end in basketball that is what is known as the no no you know offense and I just wish I could jump that house even it was a foul long three pointer no good Howard rebound Nice spin move left Wow What Hands down and no buzz right there Shaun Scott a little bit of razzle dazzle and some talent.

What a shot that was.

Now, this is interesting.

Maya moore is throwing the ball.

The more she usually on the press is the only one that isn't guarded.

So you would think someone would throw in the ball other than her.

You can break the pressure, but here we go.

It's going to be easy because she's got someone wide open.

Richie will bring it up.

South Quartet putting on some pressure.

Maya moore controlling.

Yeah.

The consensus number one player and the possession will go to the Lady Eagles.

That was great defense, too, by Alex, which she walked into two players.

She stole the ball from Maya moore.

They called it a jump ball.

It'll go back to the Eagles.

So the Lady Eagles to get things started South Gwinnett still in their man to man has they have been Maya moore underneath trying to post double teamed and looks to the outside and I'll tell you the rebounding edge continues to go the Eagles way nice move inside one giant step Harbaugh is to the home she faked it baseline right spun around to the middle and dropped it in the hoop What a player she is Winslow with the long jumper No good Howard saves Nicely done.

This is a young lady that likes to shoot the threes down here one Dennis with the three pointer.

She hit five of seven in the last game from three point range.

Kennard hanging in there but nice shot down by Ritchie And this is a team that really has a lot of weapons.

2518 less than 2 minutes to go second quarter and girls five eight championship basketball I think it's everything we hoped it would be.

It's always the open player though and a good no call maybe by Moore tried to draw the charge the left hand huge And I'm telling you what Ritchie starting to pick it up a little It's amazing how fundamental right handed left handed doesn't make any difference.

And the thing that amazes me still is the speed of this game.

Remember, these are 16 and 17 year old girl basketball players.

Not that good.

They're not fast, but the game has picked up in the last ten years.

Clark with the most and the Lady Eagles looking like they are going to set up for one shot to end this half, spreading things out, tipped out of bounds and the Eagles, I'm glad you're joining us all weekend long it's Collins Hill Girls against South Padre championship and with the foul away from the ball perhaps someone program returns which isn't always a bad idea considering the video for one shot you go for that last shot.

I have a feeling that all of where the ball is going to end up, it's going to be triggered by Maya moore.

Whether she passes it or takes the shot herself.

There's Maya right there, left open to the hole, takes off and a tough shot.

So they weren't going to run.

Now stop trying to break it out there.

And that's a tough turnover because you want to get it done without her going into the half.

You could see two different coaching styles.

Coach Tipton, she's up, she's animated.

On the other side.

Coach Mike Allison, very mellow, has confidence in his team.

After all, they haven't lost a Legion game in three years.

That'll give you some confidence.

Maya moore Now at the Point giving it up and she was set up down low, working it around with 40 left in this second quarter to go five eight championships Lady Eagles with the ball looking inside Maya moore cutting and it is now becoming a weave underneath with under 30 to go.

She's still looking for that last shot of the half shot one out playing some good man defense for the Lady Eagles, showing the patience, waiting to get the right shot.

A lot of movement off the ball and now here we go.

Maya moore is probably going to make a move that probably, definitely there's a move to the hole.

It is very much like deja vu.

We are very excited to be here again this year.

Our community and our staff and students have provided tremendous support and we've had a great tradition at Council of Wonderful Women's Basketball, talking about a great tradition of wonderful women's basketball.

You were actually one of the first basketball coaches at Collinsville.

I was the person I had the opportunity to start a strong program and then left to start a family after that.

And we've had wonderful coaches and a great, great feeder program to come up and, you know, it's contributed greatly to our success.

Well, thank you.

Also joining me is another principal from one of those Gwinnett County schools, Barry Simmons from South Gwinnett.

How exciting is it for you guys to be back here and representing Gwinnett County?

Well, it's always great to anytime you can make it to a state final game.

Unfortunately, we're up against Collinsville, a great team, and hopefully our senior girls can pull it out in the second half.

I know you missed last year's game.

Is it different being here and more exciting?

I know you got the final score.

Well, obviously I watched it on public television year.

I wish I could have been here, but call Coach Allison after the game.

And you know, it's great to watch you on TV.

Obviously, being here in person is much better.

Have any predictions on what the outcome might be?

I'm hoping maybe by one or two we'll pull it out.

The comets are going to come back strong.

Indeed, a great first half of high school basketball right there.

Of course, Collins Hill, it was a very close game.

South Gwinnett playing very well, very well there in that first half.

And of course, Colin Powell pulling away a little bit there towards the end of that first half there.

And again, still an 11 point ballgame right here, though.

So south out to tell you what the lady comets came in here to play tonight.

These two teams a little familiar with each other.

They have been waiting for this game for a year now.

Let's go ahead, throw it back to the table for some first half highlights.

Do quiet in it, Corey Kesler, guys.

Yeah, Thanks, Dave.

I'm impressed by both sides.

We know they've had experience.

But still, when you're going against the number one team, I think you might be a little intimidated.

You might want to watch them a little more than them, but so far, I think both teams, it has not been a terms of nerves.

It's been in terms of, hey, you've got a great player and hitting some shots.

Absolutely.

I'm impressed with the confidence of South Gwinnett.

They're not intimidated one bit that they're playing against the number one team in the entire country.

I think that they have to keep up the same momentum and the same break that they have been.

They just have to hit some shots.

They have to hit more shots and they have to try to defend Maya moore inside and hope that Mickey or Biggio doesn't hit the three pointer.

As we take a look at the first half highlights, too, you're going to see what I'm talking about with Maya moore inside.

She's just so hard to defend.

Taylor dealt with it with the pass there.

But then South Gwinnett comes back with the jump shot.

Look at Taylor Dalrymple hitting Nikki Visio.

She can get the job done.

They have an inside outside game.

Maya moore she wanted to drive there didn't have it or visio again from way downtown bang And then Maya moore when she can't drive does it go inside?

A little runner, a little floater?

It's hard to stop that.

She's the number one player maybe in the country.

There you see the first half starts.

And as we were talking about it, that rebounding advantage at one time was 17 to 4.

It has close, but not that much.

I think that is one of the keys as far as why this score is 25 to 11.

You're getting over twice as many rebounds, which means you're getting more than twice as many shots at the basket.

Absolutely stupid.

Look at the turnovers.

They've been limited.

Only four for College Hill and only three for South Gwinnett.

That shows that they're at ease.

They're comfortable with where they are and they just have the hope for South Gwinnett at least that they can hit some more shots Neither team shooting that great from the field, but about 33% for Collins Hill.

What has impressed me at least this first half is that Collins Hill, the stars have come up, but so have the other players on the court.

Let's go down and see how the other side is dealing with this ball game.

Lisa Weise has the coach of South Gwinnett.

Coach Allison, I know you're down again, just like last year, but what did you tell your girls in the locker room?

Well, we've got to play with a little bit better offensive intensity than we played in the first half.

And we came back off.

I thought we did a pretty good job defensively, you know, I mean, even though the score might not show it, I thought we did a pretty good job defensively.

But you know, we've got to make something happen on our offensive end or they come down and either they get two or three.

You know, opportunities are one.

We get a shot on that end.

So, you know, I thought we did a pretty good job on that and we just got to pick up our offensive intensity.

Hang in there.

But look at this crowd at the court in that arena.

Just simply this will tell you how far girls basketball has come the first few years, last few years.

It's absolutely packed.

There's and it's evenly distributed between South Gwinnett and the Lady Eagles of Collinsville.

It's not just to see the number one team in the country.

This is the state title game in the state of Georgia.

These two teams met here last year.

A great rematch.

Let's see yourself for that.

If you're just joining us there in the White College Hills South Quartet in their traditional media uniforms and the Lady Eagles in Amanda mann.

So let's see how South Gwinnett Starks, the coach, said at halftime, wants to get a little better on offense, a little more aggressive.

And already Howard trying to take it to the whole throws it up no good bounce out and the Lady Eagles control and are on the run.

I like the aggressive approach though first time in the first few minutes.

Two very important in the second half as you talked about earlier today.

First half for 3 minutes, second half, first 3 minutes.

Very important for both teams.

Renshaw with the long three pointer rims in and out and Maya moore with the rebound leading the break and let's see what she shot down.

I mean, what a move that is.

Her head was up.

She was looking pass first.

She's so humble.

But she saw the opening.

She rolled around like a whirling dervish.

It could have been, what a great player.

South Tranent wants to stay within striking distance, so each possession now becoming that much more important, even though it's early third quarter.

Not long enough for a three but good enough for two and South and Edwards shooting that's what they need they need to hit some outside midrange shots keep the defense honest south corner with backcourt pressure and almost a ten second call.

We've seen that earlier this evening.

They called it twice.

So they bring it over.

And the lady who goes underneath our unit and Maya moore with a double at the side play an alley oop to Maya moore from Nikki or Bizio.

They have to honor that every time because of the play that Maya moore is.

What a team effort so fundamentally sound and great design play by coach Tiffany Maya moore for South Grad two in the second half lady goals in the Madam and Clarke underneath trying to get it over to Houston.

They work it back out to Howard who goes back underneath so good Moore movement powered up Howard in and I don't make it any more Dame try to attack you've got to attack Very good play right there You're down by 11 You've got to continue to attack and hit your outside shots.

You just don't want this team to go on a run.

You want to keep them with them.

11 nine.

So that fourth quarter.

Yeah.

Can get around Maya moore, the all-American consensus best player in the country.

That is why.

Absolutely.

She's showing why she's showing the state of Georgia and the nation through here is about her, why she is that good.

Howard, to the hoop up and first to the low rebound by here, trying to keep it alive to get it.

You can shoot a three pointer likes it from out there and she does great shot great follow through the high arching rainbow jumper.

that's a rough foul and more if it's going to help her out.

Not intentional, just aggressive and it looks like Jordan Jones is okay here's a three pointer and they look outside she sets her feet and drains it Nice film.

She's always got her head up just like Maya moore does.

She took it to the hoop, made it happen.

All of a sudden, it's now eight point game time, perhaps tomorrow.

Moore to do her thing drop and pop.

I mean, the question is, what can you do on defense?

Do you go out on her further still look for Taylor or she'll look for an easy three from Nicki or VCO or Jordan Jones.

It's very tough to defend the Lady Eagles.

Well, what you do is you don't get frustrated like that.

You come right back and there is another hard foul when you play a great player.

And the theory goes in sometimes and you've heard it throughout basketball, if there's a great player on a team, let them get theirs support of the other team down.

But I think what makes this Lady Eagles team so special, obviously.

Maya moore No doubt about it.

Right.

But she's got a tremendous supporting cast.

Absolutely.

Everybody can get the job done.

They're all looking one another.

I think the key factor here is trust amongst the entire team.

They all believe that the other can score the basket or hit the three or get the rebound, whatever it may be, and she'll trying to make one or two up and it is good.

So 417 left in the third quarter.

Good to have you on board the five eight championship sitting back and not relaxing.

My God listen to an audible Crenshaw and there she goes as you work on how to be nice to her and look at the left hand as well as a nice steal she didn't couldn't convert, but it was a nice play.

Collins Hill, Number one in the Nation over South Gwinnett, 39 to 28.

If you're just joining us, some great basketball this evening.

The number one player in all of girls basketball in high school was Maya moore.

Tonight, she shown us why and she will continue to throw in on College Hill against 29 and to South Gwinnett.

No question why these two teams are the best in the state.

And you know what else, too?

There's no dissension on either team that you could see it.

You would think there might be some dissension with a player like Maya moore, but all the players on the Lady Eagles are on the same page.

They want to win.

They want to be dominant and they are because they're all unselfish and can get the job done.

Well that reflects the coaching do now south Gwinnett in his own and Maya moore bringing it up starting to play so let's see if this works a little better South Gwinnett saying we've had enough of Maya moore trying to go man to man let's try to zone working it around Lady Eagles and an aggressive South Gwinnett team and come out to Lady Eagles and maybe they want to adjust to that zone defense as they look let's put Maya down low.

Let's use her as the point person and pass it around after all.

I'll tell you what, Corey, the way that this Collinsville team can shoot, they are going to get some open looks.

And you can get the number one player you can get a little involved in talking about her so much, but she's always around the ball so much on both ends of the court.

You can't help but speak and talk about her inside.

South Gwinnett stays in that zone and now taking over the point, trying to get things started.

That's a good idea.

Spreading it out and this is an aggressive South Gwinnett.

There's Dalrymple underneath there and no good ma'am more calls to come in and get the rebound and to go the other way.

So far, it has thrown Collinsville a little off this.

And I don't know if you just saw that, but Maya moore went over to Taylor Dalrymple here.

A fancy.

Come on.

It's all right.

No worries.

That's the support that you're looking for from a teammate.

COLLINS Hill, the Lady Eagles in white and man to man South comment likes taking that shot but that wasn't hit there.

Howard though with the rebound inside that is cutting after shooting that three pointer and now South Bend it coming towards the hoop there's a steal and they've got numbers so far by more doesn't see it but you do need the break Let's see when she passes it up in the corner three pointer it was good And how do you beat that Jordan Jones You can just see that they've worked on that in practice.

Maya moore takes it up and Jordan Jones sets herself behind the three point line, waits for the pass and drains the three.

Just when you think South Gwinnett is making a run, maybe make getting effective on defense it is now a 14 point game.

Here's the pair and they had to honor that because Maya had gone inside and made a couple buckets so left them wide open.

Jordan Jones nails the three windchill outside looking for the three.

She can shoot it from out there, wants to take it guards and it is short Maya moore rebound.

Here we go.

And you're absolutely right.

You can see how well she was coaching both sides.

But when that Collins Hill team is ready to run, everybody is in their lane.

Everybody is feeling it and everybody is running.

Absolutely.

And when you think about South Gwinnett, the Lady Comets coach, Mike Allison in the semifinals, they beat Douglas 72 to 54.

This is a very, very, very good South Gwinnett team.

They're up against a tough opponent, Collins Hill bringing the ball up.

Maya moore triggering and looking outside.

It's an in and out game form so far with a tough shot and a good shooter's bounce is Jordan Jones has hit a couple of hoops.

Yes, she has.

All of these players could play at the next level.

Here's a player I like.

That is when she's out there no good.

And Collins Hill decides to try to save it, but it will be South Gwynedd tomorrow.

So just about a minute left in this third quarter.

There's the coach not saying much again, but trying to see what he can do against a very good number one ranked team in the country.

That was coach Mike Allison, the south to announce and you're right you lose perspective as the ball goes on for south Gwinnett team as well coach but they're running up against the number one team there absolutely stood they have a loss like you said and the few times they have lost a regional game in three years 29 in a row.

They won the state title in 1995, but last year they lost against him.

You know very well the Lady Eagles.

We've talked about how good Maya moore is, too.

But think about this.

She has a 3.875 grade point average in high school.

Wow.

Well, that doesn't surprise me.

She plays the game smart.

You're right.

It's a good point.

You can tell Pandora giving go up and in and it's the coronation on 4628 with about 40 seconds left in the third quarter of this state five a girls championship great pass by Taylor down ripple there the give and go works to perfection you couldn't work it any better when you're trying to look inside to Howard another division one fine fine looking player very strong and she's going to do very well at the next level.

Absolutely.

She will remember the South Gwinnett teams.

There is a large crowd here at the arena at the Gwinnett Center.

This teams up with that.

Of course, Maya moore in college, so used to play with some large crowds.

But South Gwinnett, as I've said, played before the boys did with Lewis Williams who went straight from high school to the NBA, played to the Sixers good pressure college here on the break to get the layup but turns it out back out and trying to set it up with about 14 seconds to go up and in and out and Howard controls what a huge hook that would have been to lock things up and here we go.

Went to the other way the three no good Maya moore with another rebound and that is how the third quarter will end with Collins Hill taking control and going up by 18 big points, 46 to 28.

Are they going to be the number one team?

Effort is all said and done.

Looks that way.

How dominant can a player be?

Maya moore in that quarter scored 14 points.

South Gwinnett had ten.

Maya moore seven for seven and now has 24 points.

That's what else can you say?

The one thing that I want to point out here, Stu, is I don't know how this game is going to wind up, but if it is a large margin and a win for the Lady Eagles, I would hate for a fan who did not come to the game to pick up the paper in the morning and see what a wide margin it happened to be.

I think South Gwinnett wasn't that good.

South Gwinnett is a very good team.

It speaks volumes for the Lady Eagles.

You saw those shooting percentages and it's not surprising with Maya moore, 747.

It is Collins Hill shooting 50% from the field.

It was 28% for South Gwinnett.

And that, along with the huge rebounding difference is a big reason why this team is up by 18 Lady Eagles to inbound.

There is one very very happy bench so far.

Maya moore to take things off and just you can see the kids sitting on the bench not wanting to hold that national title yet and a state title, but saying, you know what, we well may be on our way to the great well-played game by both teams.

Both teams have played well.

It's just one team is the most dominating girls team in the country.

That's as simple as it gets.

Yeah, it really is.

I don't see much else the South for that can do other than Winchell driving, hitting her shots, pounding on defense and trying to force some turnovers.

You have to start right now, working a little clock off looking for the good shot inside Dalrymple cutting and then up to the top of the key Maya moore 24.7 for seven in that third quarter.

Looking inside and back we go and working around the horn and Maya moore, not only you're right not only to shoot, dribble and all that, when she cut, she cuts hard, she goes fast, she does everything at full speed.

The whole team does look at movement without the ball.

They're all moving.

Without the ball, there's a pick download, there's a pick through the middle.

Someone's going to get an easy layup or an open last look down on to the post delicacy still body.

She spins almost.

I will say this.

I'm thinking of the Taylors sort of to her disadvantage.

She is a husky girl.

She is bigger than most of the girls out here and sometimes with a rough seas contact.

She is sometimes charged with the charge.

Yeah, that's happened twice tonight.

That one might have been questionable as the other one, but you know, you do it as you see it, Howard, with the ball trying to look inside and get it going for South 32 foul on Maya moore, her second and there's coach again Mike Allison somberly sitting there quietly.

But I got to tell you, that's how he was at the very start of this game.

He was there and the same somber and very reserved mood when they were still in it.

And that's his personality and it didn't work.

Carmelo and eagles Maya moore triggering it in and that might have been a charge and it was nicely done.

Those are two quick fouls on by a more which gives her 4 to 4 for the game do you think for in with a 18 point lead or do you take her out.

That's a very good question, Stuart.

I mean, you're up by eight.

I think you keep her in and I think that's what coach, she's got a dangerous intention and decides to keep her in trouble.

And I think coach is talking about it.

There's a somber South for that team games on Oprah, but they pretty much know that they have run into a very, very good team.

So let's keep our eye on Maya moore as we have all night this time, because she has 4000.

She's been aggressive on the offensive side.

It's easy for her to pick up that first down south Twitter in man to man went to a zone for a while in that third quarter when they had two and Maya moore with seven for seven amassed over the entire team by herself.

good aggressive defense.

This is where it can get frustrating for a team as you're trying to slack and steal that ball.

And you got a good handling team like the lady generals but good defense and here comes after that.

Try to get something going on the break Howard with the lob like the duchess who can shoot the three she's showing you that beautiful form there.

The three three.

All of a sudden the little half, a little window opens and that's what they need, something to light the fire, something to spark this out.

For that team to make a little run, they'll have to do it.

Came down by 15 with 515 left.

Sometimes one of the things you can't do with a big lead is not stay aggressive on offense, stay in the same offense, take some chances like you have.

And that's what's given here a 15 point lead.

Look how impressive this is for college, though they're still moving without the ball, setting backside screens, setting screens off the ball, not relying on the fact that they're up by so much to try to spread it out and look for an easy bucket via more on the wing, looking towards the hoop now, taking it in and taking it back out.

What a matchup that is with Maya moore and Howard.

The team is very, very good.

I think all of these players have started at least two to play at the next level, but it says a lot for the basketball here in the state of Georgia south Gwinnett.

Very fundamentally sound not getting too down that they're down by so many points, not getting out of control, trying to stay aggressive to get back into the game.

But two quality programs in the state of Georgia and you're seeing it right here, the Coliseum, the number one team in the country for the best girls player that I've seen since I was here up till now was Humphries, who went to Georgia.

Tasha, Tasha Humphries.

She was big, she was strong.

She could shoot.

She had a great touch and still does.

How is her team still in high school?

Outstanding.

Dominant.

Yeah, but what a state title.

And they did.

But, but this is another player that's just going to go on to the next level and have all the success she lost.

So she continues to work hard.

The sky's the limit.

So Maya moore, the number one team in the country in girls basketball, let us remind you one more time, no girls team from the state of Georgia has ever ended up being the number one team ranked team in the USA Today.

Collinsville came in right, Number one and the turnover is terrible.

Goes the other way 62nd time around for the 3 minutes and 56 seconds away from ending a perfect season.

And what do you have to do now if you have any kind of chance is just press, press and press.

40 high school sports on the team I've done for the last, I don't know, five or six years.

No one does it better than Tom Borges and his crew.

It is always a first class job and we enjoy bringing it to you and of course have more high school basketball coming up tonight and tomorrow.

But it is it is always fun to see these kids.

And, you know, it's not that long after you see them as high school sports stars, sometimes a year from now or, more.

I think it's going to be a year.

But two or three down the road for some of these young ladies and some of the men to go on to the NBA, to go on to big programs for the girls and even the WNBA.

So you are just seeing the formation of tremendous careers.

Absolutely.

And I really think it says a lot about how far girls basketball has come in the last 10 to 15 years.

These are two quality programs that were in the state title game last year.

It says so much of the winning percentages and the coaching ability of coaches in the state of Georgia and how much talent is in the state of Georgia these days.

Lady Eagles spreading it out, almost going into a Four Corners, just wearing down that clock another foul by Faulk and to the foul line, the Lady Eagles will go in 438.

And Nikki, it brings you all very impressive tonight as well, will go to the foul line of this tremendous crowd, as we've mentioned, first lit up first one, good thing about Nikki or Beezus do is that she has another year to play here college.

So she's just a junior.

The beat will go on for both these teams.

They'll lose great players.

They will get great players.

When she has a great career ahead of her.

She's played a good game, as have a lot with Howard, but he is again down for pulling down the rebound, trying to clear it and she does Lady Eagles content now just to wear down some that drop take the foul or get a wide open shot as they spread the court once again Dalrymple looking underneath there is the lay up and it is good so doesn't get much better than that.

Jordan Jones has been impressive as well.

She is a senior.

She'll be waving goodbye, but she'll be doing it with a state championship on her will resonate.

But you run into a College Hill team that was really that good.

I mean, they're just that good.

They should be for that really has something to hang their heads about.

She has had a quiet, solid game.

And what was a close game is now a 23 point game.

South Gwinnett don't forget came in 29 to win Still trying to get something going Don't let her shoot for three She's been hitting some big ones others has but again it is controlled and they've got numbers.

Let's see if they take it or pull it back out.

Lady Eagles content just to run that clock to 30 to a national title and to a state title and to a real, real asterisk in high school basketball history in this state.

As far as the girls or boys go, just a sensational run and a sensational team.

Absolutely.

I require more of that.

Some more.

No hard foul.

It's just amazing.

Stu, how will these players compliment one another and it was a hard for how do these shots by more will go to the foul line and shoot a couple.

So much confidence, so much poise and always trying to get better.

She's so humble.

You talk to her after game and I guarantee you she'll be happy.

They win the state title, but she'll also say, you know, I could have made a couple more lay, so I could have gotten a couple rebounds, which are with the nice drive will go and she will shoot to number 3456 31 seven.

And you have to appreciate the feistiness of which she gave a heartfelt the other one went other and went to the hoop hard She's a she's a solid player.

A good player.

Absolutely.

She can she can play point on my team.

There's no giving up herself for that.

Almost sounds like a sign that you would see coming into South Corner.

There's no giving up in our city and there's no giving up in this team.

Absolutely.

They fought to get here.

They made it looks like they're going to come off just a little bit shy, still home and now Coach Tipton doing some substitutions, letting everybody get a taste of what it is to win a state title.

And eventually, I'm guessing she will.

But Maya moore, half her ovation as she goes in.

And let's not hope there's a hard sell there.

Look at that.

Look like look and analysis.

And that was Maya moore, 30th point of the night, done in style and a three pointer.

Look at the replay, look at the versatility, look at the balance.

Tremendous with the left hand over her head as she's falling out of bounds.

Impressive.

I've learned one thing for sure.

During these high school games, you see a player to say Never again will there be another reason they come along.

What you are watching, young lady, regardless of how many great players come along, she will always be something special.

Absolutely.

And I think it's because of the quality of a person that she is not just her basketball ability.

She gets it done in the classroom.

And she's got a lot of humility.

Her mom, Catherine, certainly raised her daughter well, 44 in the morning.

And so the celebration was probably it honestly started about a quarter ago, is now really getting underway for this College Hill team who will end this basketball season as the number one team in the nation by USA Today.

And they will be the first Georgia girls team to ever do that.

So there will be some other teams and just listen to the crowd as Maya moore comes off 31 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and what style she did it and what ovation she deserves under two to go in the state five a championship game Collins Hill in control as they have been most of the way Brown out left hander no girl becomes up and she is fouled You know you have to appreciate the emotion by Maya moore.

She didn't take it for granted all the emotion from few years playing here at high school.

It all came out right there.

She's hugging her coach.

She feels good about the accomplishment as she will shoot.

But it wasn't expected.

She didn't think they were going to come out here and easily win by 20 points and that you have to see it.

And there's another young lady that deserves a round of applause.

Darryl Taylor, Terrible.

Only a junior.

So she'll be a key to this.

A game.

She had a12 punch.

Lady Eagles just finishing this thing out in style, bringing the ball up and continuing to look for a good shot up by 25 big points.

And I will tell you, it was a fun game to do, a fun game to watch.

It might not have been close, but you saw a lot of tremendous basketball and that's so important to I think you said that so well.

You're watching great basketball by two quality programs in the state of Georgia.

It doesn't get any better than that 127 allowed to go to 31 at all.

That's a goal for Maya moore to go to 125 and three in her high school career.

Unbelievable.

I don't have any stats off the top of my head.

I go back to the the days of Alcindor at Cal Memorial.

I think he only lost one game in his career.

That was to DeMatha.

Adrian Daly, who played for Namath at Summer Records, but not that good.

You go to the all time greats and the all time great players, and they didn't have records like that in high school.

Absolutely not.

And the thing about it is show complimentary teammates.

You know what?

What a great player.

What a great program.

Graduations, too both teams South Gwinnett a fine program in its own right just could not up in the number one team in the country long three pointer no good control by the Lady Eagles and for a moment during the game when they went to that zone South Gwinnett I thought they had the lady Eagles and a little bit of funk but not today Good steal everybody getting into the act There's little Norman getting the ball and trying to take it down for south Gwinnett Andrea Norman into the game Take it hit it Run on the So your name's in the box score with less than a minute to go in the state title game in the state title game the Lady Eagles content just to run that clock down take the last shot of the ball game and finish off a dream season for a sensational program.

And it will continue for so long and the possession arrow goes to south.

Perhaps everyone coming in over really want to say congratulations to sub for that lady Comets a great season.

They came up a little bit shy but coach Mike Allison has done a wonderful job with this team.

They got to this point they fall short once again to Collins Hill but a great program to great programs in the state of Georgia.

Congratulations to both Stu.

Well, I'll tell you this, too.

The Tracy tip to the coach in College Hill had a lot of pressure on her.

She had a number one player in the country.

And you know what?

It's easy to say You got the number one player.

You got a lot of great ingredients.

You should go undefeated.

But it's not that easy.

And there's a lot of pressure on a lot of these high school coaches at any level who are expected to do that.

But she coached them well.

You could see that fundamentally had the best player.

And you know what?

She had a perfect season.

Absolutely.

Where like I said, when she was the JV coach to coach them to two straight undefeated season, she was a point guard herself.

She knows the game.

She molded this team together to believe in one another.

They did.

And they're going to win back to back state titles the third the last four years.

I'll be intrigued to see how Maya moore doesn't have you know, they have great title.

I can't see her not being in the starting lineup and making an impact.

So there you go.

3.5 to go, The countdown and the coronation about to get started.

And that is the number one team in the state of Georgia is the number one team in the country is Collins and Hill.

As they win the five eight state championship, 61 to 30 over a very good South Gwinnett team.

Third straight title five of the last seven years is tough to do at any level, but you're not kidding any any last impressions as we already have talked to done the biography on her friend Maya moore.

I mean, we lost five seniors from last year's team, and so we had to make a lot of adjustments.

And these kids, you know, we had people step into the roles of those kids we lost last year and they just did a tremendous job and it just says a lot for them.
