Live from the Arena at Gwinnett Center, it's the 2010 Class five girls basketball state championship.
Tonight, it's the Norcross Lady Blue Devils at 27 and four out of Region seven taking on the unbeaten Redan Lady Raiders.
The defending champs at 31 to no out of Region two.
And good evening, everyone.
Dave Gardner alongside former Atlanta Hawks player Mike Quinn, nicknamed the Stinger.
We've got the Stinger here tonight with us in a mike.
Let's talk about this matchup, Redan and Norcross.
This could be one for the ages.
This is one for the ages.
Dave, you've got two outstanding teams.
A lot on the line, Redan, as you mentioned, trying to defend their title and some of the best girl basketball players in the nation on display tonight for Norcross.
Let's talk a little bit about Norcross.
The Lady Blue Devils come in here again, an excellent ball team and they are led by a freshman, Diamond DeShields.
Everybody's went in raving across the country about her calling her the most explosive female player in high school basketball.
And she's only a freshman, so a very athletic player with a lot of skills already drawing comparisons to Maya moore.
They're going to look at the starting five for Norcross, Jordan, Hanks, Davis de Mercy, Andrew Shields, again, two freshmen in that starting lineup here tonight.
We caught up with Coach Angie Hembree and we asked her what it means to have her team and the finals to be at the state.
You know, I think it's a wonderful experience for them.
The atmosphere being at the Gwinnett Arena, being at with this crowd and the and their friends.
And it's just a special moment for them, something that they'll never forget.
And when they get to old and gray like me, they will still remember it very fondly.
Well, I don't know about the old and gray part there, but Coach Jamboree has certainly been around this environment, of course, winning those three state titles with Colin Sale.
All right, Mike, let's talk a little bit about this, about this Redan team, of course, of the state champs last year, trying to do it again here in 2010.
Yeah, they are a tremendous athletically gifted team.
They pressure, they shoot from the perimeter, they change the tempo of the game and control the tempo as well as any team we've seen all year long.
And one player to stand out here tonight is Alisha Andrews.
Now, she's not the tallest player on the floor, but she might be the quickest.
Oh, she is the quickest.
Has the best ball handling skills and can shoot from the perimeter, can totally take over a game and control it by herself.
Dave a tremendous talent and you see her numbers there there's the starting five for Redan again Andrews, Page, Dalrymple, Daniels and Evans again three seniors and two juniors in that starting lineup who also caught up with first year coach Jerry Jackson to get his thoughts on having his team in the finals.
We're very excited to be back to defend our crown.
We're here to play basketball and that's what we hope we can get the fans and everybody else, like myself.
So again, looking forward to it right here.
It's going to be a great game.
Norcross and Redan, two teams, of course, that belong right here in the state championship.
And it's going to be very interesting, going to have a lot of athletes on the floor here tonight.
Well, they certainly are.
I'm looking for that great show that the coach talked about right away.
Let's go downstairs to our P.A.. ANNOUNCER Dr. David Withrow with tonight's player introductions.
That da da.
Six to freshman number 23, Kayla Davis at forward, a 510 junior.
Number 25, Alex Spiller saying, And the forward 16 freshman number 30 diamonds.
You see, Norcross is coached by Angie Hembree and now the starters for the Redan lady Raiders at guard by foot.
Senior number five, Alisha Andrews at Guard of five eight.
Senior Number ten.
Mackenzie Dalrymple at Guard of by five Junior number 15.
Kiera Perry at forward, six foot senior number 32, Mia Evans and that forward, a six foot junior.
Number 50 on Ms.. Daniels Redan is coached by Jerry Jackson.
Well, the stage is set and we are ready to rock and roll with this Final Five, a girl's championship match up for the night.
Stay with us.
Tip off.
Coming up from the Arena, Gwinnett Center when we return.
Let's get started here.
Let's look at listen, We've had some folks suggest that after watching Jon Nelson handle the rock on the camera today, that we need to send him to summer basketball camp, use some of the money for that.
But we're not going to every dollar is going to high school sports.
I still don't know how you do this, but thanks for watching.

Hey, great party.
Oh, thanks.
Here you go.
One hamburger, medium well, this is well done.
No, no, no.
That's medium well.
What are you calling me?
A liar?
This thing is practically burnt.
That's it.
You're not going to come to my house and tell me how to cook A You wouldn't do it.
There.
Crazy.
So don't do it here, Sportsmanship.
It's up to you.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, serving all of Georgia, Norcross and Redan set to go toe to toe.
But first, let's meet the other member of our team.
Eric Hunter is courtside with us tonight.
Eric, what's happening?
Well, thanks, Dave.
Hey, look for two different modes of attack with Norcross and Reid and Norcross, of course.
But those Twin towers, Davis and the Shield, those two are freshmen, which is amazing to me.
Reading an attack of their senior court guard, Alicia Andrews.
I think she gives up maybe five or six feet to those bigs from Norcross, but she still loves to attack the basket Stinger the way you used to attack that jump shot.
Oh, thank you, Eric.
Indeed.
But boy, Eric is right.
The way Alicia attacks this game, though, Dave, she comes full speed as soon as the ball is in her hands.
Andy Coward.
Ricky Crawford and Amy.
Tony, Again, the game officials here tonight for this five girls championship, Dave Gardner, Mike Glenn, courtside with you, along with Eric Garner, the rest of the GPB crew.
And it is the Redan Lady Raiders who will control the opening tip, 17 playoff appearances, 11 consecutive playoff appearances for this Redan program.
Wow, what a storied program.
And they have won 58 straight bowl games.
You talk about royalty in the state of Georgia.
Doesn't get much better than this.
And their last lose some 28 title game is a big three point shot out of the gate for Redan.
That was number 15 here, a paige who's averaging over 12 points a game.
Well, there's no luck for her.
She can knock down that outside jumper with consistency on the other end.
A great look inside by the shields in to day mercy.
Well, Mercy stands five foot 11.
She's going to be a player outside.
I mean, up front line is towering and they're all talented, Dave.
They all can pass and score the basketball when not to handle Kayla Davis trying to feed DeShields inside and a push right there, two bodies to the floor along that baseline.
That was quite a collision.
You're going to get a niece, a Daniels, a six foot junior with a first and a contrast of style.
This initial, Daniels rightly uses her size to her advantage, likes to bang and play very physically inside and taking a toll right there on that play and another whistle off the inbound.
This one's going to go, I guess, number 32, Leah Evans, the six foot senior.
So tough with fouls right here against Redan in the opening minute of the contest.
I mean, Evans could be the best rebounder on the floor.
So a lot of inside strength also for Redan, even though they're not as tall and maybe not quite as gifted as we take a look at a beautiful play right there by Davis, Kayla Davis with her first two of the night, one of those two outstanding freshmen.
Again, Davis stands six foot two and two shields at six foot one, really provide that inside presence despite being so young.
And that shot off the mark back the other way it goes, three point shot on the other end is short out of the hands of Hanks kept alive, though.
Here's a three point shot from the corner and it's there for Davis.
He's got five.
That's a beautiful shot by Kayla Davis.
The follow through the arc that was almost perfection as a freshman knocks down a long one for Kayla Davis, the daughter of NBA all star Antonio Davis, who also served as the aew coach for Davis and teammate The Shield.
So even though they're freshmen, they've got a lot of experience playing together.
Yes, they do.
As s as this young lady right here, Briana Jordan, of course, daughter LeBron Jordan right there.
She could not get that little spin move to go d back on the other end.
The up and under move right there from Andrews would not go and she is so quick off the dribble and she gets lost to the pack if you lose her on the other end do mercy turn around long range wouldn't go one and out nice block out by Daniels some good overhit two hand overhead pass I love the way she utilizes her size and strength as well as her fundamentals.
On the drive right here.
The door closed on Paige, but she does draw the whistle and we'll go to the line.
David Immediately.
I'm impressed by the savvy of these girls that are on the floor right now.
They know how to draw fouls, how to hit the open player, how to execute and play this game correctly.
And they're playing it at a very high level right now on both ends of the floor.
Cynthia Clarke, number 31, will step in for revenge and Nia Evans will take a break there.
You look at Paige's numbers this year, over ten points, 2.3 assists, 2.3 steals for the junior and two of two on that trip to the free throw line has quickly got five here out of the gate.
It's a two point Norcross lead, seven five.
You know, whatever Norcross gets together for parent night, it's like an autograph session.
We talked about Antonio Davis.
We talked about Brian Jordan, of course, Briana Jordan, the daughter of Brian Jordan.
You also have Diamond DeShields, who's the daughter of former Major League Baseball player Delfino to shield.
So you got all kinds of star power.
Yes, you do a lot of wisdom, a lot of athleticism and a beautiful shot, right there by Andrew.
You can never forget about her on this floor because she makes her presence felt.
Any time you have a lull in your tension of that is a beautiful reverse right there.
A three point shot on the other end is there for Kayla Davis.
How you like her now?
Oh, boy.
Davis quickly, with eight, a lot of people are calling her day one of the most complete players in in female basketball at this level.
Now, there is a three point shot for Andrews who answers on the other end and she can shoot the lights out of the ball.
Boy, she can from deep, almost unlimited range.
And she's so quick that you better not play her closely because she can go around, jump back on the other end.
Thanks.
Took a peek there momentarily.
This is Davis up top.
It gets rid of it.
There's a three point shot on the way from DeShields would not go so got a whistle and that's I'm going to go against Norcross it will be redan basketball they're going to look at and Lisa Daniels the six foot junior.
So is certainly a presence there.
And we have reached the midway point of the first period, the step aside on the other side of the break in a tie ballgame, 10 to 10, Norcross and Redan coming at it.

They've garnered Mike Glynn with you Eric Court courtside and again a great ball game out of the gate right here We're not at up at ten apiece Boy doesn't get much better than this and so far it has been all that it has been built to be.
These ladies playing extremely hard, extremely well and all night and up to ten days.
But Mackenzie Dalrymple on that last pass right there, left your feet, had to get rid of it.
She's lucky that wasn't a turnover right there.
As you see Coach Jerry Jackson, his first season as head coach taking over for the retired Rhonda malone is still a a teacher at Redan retired after 11 seasons.
Jackson takes over.
He's assistant under Malone for two years and for his first year as a head coach.
He's done a remarkable job.
He certainly has.
He's taken that baton and he's run with it very, very admirably and has not had a loss on his resume and is not looking forward to getting one tonight.
That's for sure.
That's for sure.
You know, and a lot of people, you know, Jackson didn't have a lot of head coaching experience.
A lot of people maybe question that a little bit, but they're certainly not questioning his hire now.
It was the right choice as well.
So here's a look at that ball movement delivered and rebounded by Evans, who I said earlier may be the best rebounder on the floor On the other end, quickly to page it wouldn't go.
The follow won't go for Clark, but every third opportunity is there.
Evans on both ends of the floor with a rebound or she gets them.
Evans Evans averaging over 11 points a game the mercy swings it over.
That's Davis with the basketball another cross-court pass and Andrews got a hand on it nearly forced a turnover inside to shields traveling going to be called and back the other way.
Well even though these ladies are freshmen you're talking about the shields and and Davis.
But they're very poised, though they don't get rattled very easily.
And as you mentioned, the years of training under their dads and a new experience, they don't play like typical freshman.
Four of ten for North Cross from the field rather than four of nine.
Basically even right now.
Again, the way the Raiders up by 23. shot from Andrews from way out they're off the mark based out of there the mercy with the rebound got it to Davis and then we're going to have a little bit of contact right here.
It's going to come from Dow Ripple.
It looks like, oh, the mercy pulling outstanding rebounds as well, trying to get her ball club off and running.
She goes Jackson working the official right here.
Yes.
Great job of officiating all weekend so far here.
Yeah.
All of our crews have done an excellent job.
Yes.
And there's an outside shot, two point shot put on the line for Brianna Jordan.
Don't forget about her.
She shoots over 50% from the field.
She does an outstanding job of leading this not course ball club.
There's Jordan.
And you don't think about her as much as a shooter because she she leads the team in assists.
She leads the team in, steals.
Yes.
DeShields is the leading scorer, but as soon as you take your eye off her, she'll knock down the big bucks.
She certainly will.
Day She's just an outstanding leader on this ball.
But you look at a rise high for that rebound to what I call her explosive so here's the shield from outside knocks on wood and that's a two point shot.
How could you not get excited about the title play these ladies are playing here this evening?
Well, it's not coincidental that some of these younger players, like the Shields, have drawn comparisons to Maya moore, who, of course, we all know is probably arguably the top women's basketball player in the country right now at the college level.
And coach Angie Hanbury, of course, laid the foundation for that College Hill team that had Moore first.
They won three championships there.
And yes, so the comparisons have already begun.
But admittedly, the Shields will tell you herself that she's still got a lot of work to do to get to that point.
The city acquired the senior at the line who saw her numbers and knocks down the first Clark five non senior.
The good job of drawing the foul on that play to get the chance to get to that free throw line two for two so it's tied at 14 apiece they're a great ball game here tonight That one taken away inside Dalrymple ripped it out of there and you just get on back when Andrews has it No media trying to pressure her.
What a drive right there by page Hayes Just gliding to the basket and laying that one off the glass softly here, a page of seven first half points here as we go inside a minute, a half of this first quarter that was knocked away from behind Andrews with a quick hands still lose.
Now page on the other end running the lance up look them all fake the pass and took it all the way to the basket page again to the basket just playing outstanding in this open floor transition game page with nine points here out of the gate and it's a four point REDAN lead for an answered as we go under a minute.
Andrews hands were quick.
She just had it knocked away just at Andrews trying to create another turnover.
John the outstanding ball handler but you take a look at page Look out look her off right here.
I mean, she looked around, glided to the basket and laid that one in, fired her up.
It did add another slap of the ball by Andrews second time.
She's done that on John from behind thanks right there on the drive draws the foul There you go.
See it is right here and you see the ball was slapped away.
She says it's going to be five team fouls on her then tanks at the line, knocks down the first again Judy and hangs the five five senior there.
You look at Bianca O'Neil, one of the first off the bench here tonight for coach Embry and Norcross five four senior there you look at Hank's numbers this year, 3.2 points, two and a half rebounds and a steal and a half a game.
And a good shooter, as you could tell on those two free throws.
They're two for two on that trip.
It's a two point game.
Andrews brings it up.
40 seconds left here in the opening quarter.
Live here at the Arena, Gwinnett Center for the Final Girls game of the night, followed by the five a boys contest.
And then we do it all over again tomorrow down in Macon, single through triple A.
We hope that you'll join us right here as we continue with championship weekend.
And it looks like Andrews and the Lady Raiders will milk this final 16 seconds at play for the final shot of the quarter.
DAVIS A bad feeling to know.
You've got to guard this young lady one on one.
It is middle of open floor as quick as she is, as well as she handles it, but she involves her teammates.
Paige can't knock that one down.
3 seconds left.
Now it's North Cross with the final bucket at the buzzer.
Oh, boy.
That was close.
Out of the hands of Kayla Davis, but it falls short.
A great ballgame here.
After one.
It's Redan 18, Norcross 16.
We are back with period two from the Gwinnett Arena on the other side of the break.
Thanks for watching.

Back here at the Arena, Gwinnett Center.
Aidan leads Norcross by two of this five, a girl state championship.
And here's a look at the teams that have a chance to repeat this year on the girls side.
Wesleyan, of course, will play tomorrow.
Buford and Carrollton, Southwest.
The cab has already won.
And this Redan Lady Raider team back in the championship game here in 2010 with a chance to repeat here tonight, Dave Garner, Mike Glynn with you.
Eric Hunter, courtside along with the rest of the JB crew and one stinger.
What a first quarter in this one.
Oh, just fantastic.
I mean, the action has been very competitive for the ladies who played extremely hard and well, good scoring, good action day doesn't get much better than it does it right here.
Off the inbounds, Kayla Davis puts up the three unable to hit the mark.
Davis finished the first quarter with eight points to lead the way for Norcross.
And meanwhile, Kiara Page led the Lady Raider effort with nine points in that first quarter when it was action packed.
Boy, the look of a head of the floor, a alley oop pass right there.
Davis, unable to handle it couldn't quite get it out of her hand as well.
And that's because of their youth and still learning to play together.
You give them a couple more years.
Of course Jordan in the middle of that as the senior.
But you look at the rebound and the run in the floor of Diamond and Davis, that's a that's a terrific duo with Dan last year.
Boy, oh, boy, man.
How about Paige Hayes with two more as the first player to reach double figures here tonight?
She's got 11 just slashing all through the north loss defense brothers in transition on the halfcourt set Davis being guarded by down dribble Nice little pick right there and it looks like we're going to have a foul on durable and that's the savvy of the shield right here but look at this drive by Paige I mean we just showed the highlight of her look in them all this time.
She goes in with the left hand.
I think Paige, just a handful making her way to the basket.
We talked about all these young freshmen, but of course, Paige, the a junior there for a day and has provided some of that leadership.
This year, averaging over 12 points a ball game.
And she's already there yesterday, barely into the second quarter of this one.
On the other end, Jordan kicks it out to mercy battles ball loose Andrews with it trying to outrace defenders Dish is off the page and one for Paige is just running along Andrews looking to make it happen and finds the tremendous athlete in Paige who's going to the basket again Look at this play develop Now watch Paige just run this lane like a sprinter.
I mean, you have two outstanding athletes out on the break there.
And Paige again to the basket.
Paige trying to complete the three point play and does so she's got 14 and it's a 2316 Redan lead and then Redan last year's champs Norcross, playing for their first state title prior to Coach Henry's arrival.
The last playoff appearance for Norcross came in 1999.
So it's been a while.
But Coach Henry quickly got this program rolling to match the success that the boys program has had over the years.
And we've got ourselves one heck of a ball game here in this first half tonight.
And Davis with a beautiful crossover and a pull up tempo up the glass which is badly missed the fields cleans it up That's great ball game Diamond DeShields with four points a lot of action if you look at the trends transport times for lead changes here so far in this game, that's a two point shot for number 22, Sidney Mason Mason a55 junior team in on that last time out.
They're averaging over three points a ballgame, but it's a little alley oop pass.
The mercy gets in to it.
Alex de Mercy with points three and four and on a very nice system.
Jayla Davis, who has really been the most dominant factor on the North Cross team thus far.
Look at the crossover.
How about it?
Wow break some ankles so that she can a lot of them shot off the bar to a northwest cross back on the other end here three point shot wouldn't go one and out Andrews with the basketball start to see a lot more alley oop passes the girls basketball see you are the level is just raising continuously yearly there used to be such a halfcourt type of game you know the line a lot on the perimeter shooting and now with this the size and the growth for some of these young ladies and you consistently seeing players well over six foot, it has really changed the game.
It has driven you credit a lot to the WNBA when these young female players have a goal or aim, a reason to protect and harness their skills and they've taken it to new levels.
And with players like this, like the Shields, Davidson, Jordan and many others on both ends of the floor here, you see the game being elevated and Paige, of course, has to be among that group.
Look at this play right here, though.
It's so beautiful out there.
Faces Kayla Davis Yeah, as far as these players going on to college and you know, we're seeing a lot more girls, particularly from Georgia and particularly from this area that are being awarded some some high profile scholarships.
And I think, you know, players like Maya moore and some of those players really brought a lot of attention to the state of Georgia.
Oh, they certainly have.
I mean, basketball, high school basketball in the state of Georgia takes a backseat to no states, whether you're talking girls up boys, just phenomenal teams, players and coaches making the game great.
I tell you what, Eugene Hanks, one of that won right there.
She absolutely was determined to take that ball to hoop and score, at least get to the line and create an opportunity.
Yes, indeed.
And find yourself stepping right up there to that line.
Here she is right here.
That's good hustle.
And the man's a foul.
And you see these ladies going to the free throw line because they've made an outstanding play and have demanded a foul about being aggressive and taking that ball to the basket thanks to points here in the ball game.
You look at the shot, I mean, the arc, the rotation, it's all they're here.
Evans checks back in for Redan as number 31 senior Clark who just picked up her second personal will take a seat and Hank's three for three from the line Make it four for four.
I don't know.
She's hit the rim yet and we have got a timeout with 408 left in period number two 2524.
It's a one point ball game.
Redan leads it by one.
We're back in a moment.
Broadcast of today's games is made possible in part by the following.
Thank you.
Can I help you today?
No, thanks.
I'm just looking.
Oh, this is cute.
And so I. Yeah, you wouldn't do it there, so don't do it here.
Sportsmanship.
It's up to you like they're the fashion police.
Angie Hammer is Norcross, Lady Blue Devils, trailed by one against Redan here with 408 left in the first half.
Again, Norcross With just four losses on the year, but only two of those in the state of Georgia and both to the same team in Mill Creek who actually won the region.
Seven Title Norcross comes in here as the number two seed out of Region seven, but they are here in the state championship game.
Their other two losses to Saint Mary's of Stockton, California, and Bowling Brook out of Illinois.
So tells you they put on some miles this year.
Yes, they have taken all challenges from across the country.
And that's the way you build a quality program, too.
You just win the exposure and the inspiration.
Boy, a nice move right down here.
Evans trying to follow her own shot but missed it and had the second one blocked.
Jordan gives up their good hustle, though, by Daniels trailing on the play and now all alone on the other end Aces Paige But she's got 16 now and Evans just threw a full length baseball pass right on the money Stop talking about that was right on the body page.
Carter That laid it in for 16 first half points here, though, for Kiara Paige, the five six junior is having a field day who's been phenomenal.
Great ball game, though, a three point game, 27, 24, 320 left here in the first half.
Dave Carter, Mike win with you Eric Garner courtside with us tonight is had a beautiful jumper.
Well I mean this young lady can do it all you know the challenge for her and for coach Embry who does an outstanding job with her to keep her in the structure of the team, which she does she has to train him for my dad, of course, But she has so much talent and ability, as was the shields that you think they may just try to take over the game.
There's two on the other side from Sidney Mason.
Mason has come in and shot the ball extremely well for days.
Taylor Davis, though, heating up Baker's dozen, 13 points here in this first half.
Well, that's a good looking turnaround for the shields.
Beautiful turnaround for the shields diamonds.
The right knee.
And back on the other end here and Lisa Daniels tries the Back to Mercy and it kicks it back out here as Andrews puts up a little running floater and nothing but net beautiful shots.
Beautiful shot and Coach A she's upset with that play.
She's tension that girls are not defending the way she wants them to on that play and she takes a timeout right away.
But take a look at this move by Diamond DeShields.
What a beautiful turnaround fadeaway jumper by one of the freshman.
And then back on the other end the runner the teardrop.
Look at that.
That's a good giant killer.
Anybody want to get that one?
I'm not sure.
You could have got to that, though, sir.
I'll take a look at that one and hope she missed it for partner.
I don't want to put you on the spot, but I do want to congratulate you.
From what I understand, you've been a Well, we'll talk about that in a moment.
The five boys championship coming up here, Westlake and Milton.
Throw in two against 28 for that one coming up here tonight at 845.
And hope you'll join us for that one.
But I want to recognize you've been you've been given the Naismith Award from the Atlanta Tipoff Club for outstanding support.
And I want to congratulate you for that.
That is quite an honor.
Thank you very much, Dave.
I'm certainly honored to receive that from that prestigious organization.
And in a state where basketball is is so good and so popular and travel going to be called right there on Norcross and back the other way.
And by the way, know, we got this we got this young crew here from Coosa High School tonight helping us out.
You must feel right at home.
Oh, you're the guy.
Absolutely.
Man.
I feel very comfortable with all these eagles around me.
Great.
Georgia high school basketball.
So, yeah, my friend Alan here has a good crew just doing an outstanding job.
So kudos to my alma mater.
There are 2 minutes to play here.
The half 3120 92. game.
The two points right there, two more from Redan makes it a 3329 ballgame and it looks like Clark added to her total while look at the block by Evans.
Oh boy.
I mean it's fierce out there that one out of bounds and going right back to Norcross.
Neither team has had trouble shooting the basketball, but as much as the offense has been a big part of it here tonight, the defense has been huge and huge.
Look at Evans right there.
I mean, she anchors that defense rebound and blocking shots clogging up the middle.
You get nothing cheap against this and defense nothing Jordan vicious off Davis thought about the three now takes it to the hoop unable to hit the shot right there finally brought down by Clark and now it's Andrew's off and running with the numbers against her it doesn't matter.
It's still going to kick it out there, but the pass too high.
Davis on the other end, leans in, will draw the whistle, traveling going to be called and back the other way.
Well good defense calls that see Davis was trying to work her way around but that is just outstanding Defense play by Clark Clark held the ground looking to take the charge Look here gets the travel nowhere to go outstanding way to central position to take the charge and you get a travel instead which is just as good see coach Embry trying to rally her team, taking on the unbeaten lady raiders of Redan and playing them tough here in this first half.
It's just a four point game now.
You have a six foot, two inch Davis trying to defend against a listed five foot Andrews Norcross somewhat content to let this clock run, but Coach Embry encouraged her ladies to step up and pressure the basketball.
Got the drive from Andrews who draws the whistle.
Yeah, that's a tough matchup, though, for Davis, guarding the small quick point guard but willing to accept that challenge, Trevon ranked number one in the Georgia Prep Country Coaches poll number six by USA Today in the national rankings.
Wow.
This is a redan team that's garnered a lot of attention around the country and they rightfully so.
32 seconds left in the half ball in Andrews hands being guarded by Jordan.
Other little floater off the glass this time.
Unbelievable.
Yes.
Andrews again strikes nine points for Alicia Andrews.
She's averaging 16 on the year.
The five foot senior has helped to lead the charge here for the lady Raiders in this first half, six point lead, I think the last of the night and there's one ball nearly went in and gave Hanks a chance for a three point play.
As it is, though, she head to the line, Shoot the pair.
Well, she had to take a lick across the nose as she came in there, though, because, as I mentioned, Evans didn't give up anything easy in that lane.
You're going to pay a price when you come in the lane.
But Hanks willing to do that and goes back to that free throw line.
And that's a miss first miss from the stripe here is four for up to that point she'll have another try to make it a five point game right here with just over 7 seconds left such a win on the way.
And it's good.
Five points for Judy Hanks in this first half and then we'll play for the final shot.
Andrews from way outside, just off the mark.
Short range, though.
This time expires here in this first half, 35 to 30.
The unbeaten Redan lady Raiders trying to make a bid for another state title lead.
Norcross looking for their first Eric Butters downstairs with Coach Jackson.
Eric Coach, what have you seen from your team so far that you like?
We played with a little bit better energy, but we just got to box out and get on the ball a little bit more.
But they get back in defense and transition and we'll be all right.
Talk about what you like to do defensively to slow them down.
Defensively, we just got to stay in, man, and keep playing hard and we're doing a pretty good job of controlling them, but we just got to help on the backside.
All right, Coach, good luck in the second half.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you, Eric.
Well, there we are.
We're at the break.
3530 will step aside.
Stay tuned.
More from Georgia Public Broadcasting coming up.
And then the second half a little bit later on.
Stay with us.
She looks good.
Like you.
Move it.
I like to move it, Move it, move it, move.
She likes to move it, Move.
You like to move it faster?
We're going to get right back to some more of that great high school basketball action.
We're going to take 5 minutes right now.
That's right.
Just 5 minutes to get you to join the team.
And it's going to be a very important 5 minutes because if you want to watch more high school basketball, not this year.
We're going to continue to have the games for the rest of this year.
But for down the road, the future years and years down the road, you want to keep the great high school basketball coming on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
There's one way to do it, John.
How do you do that?
By becoming an MVP for GPB, one of our most valuable players.
And how do you do that?
By becoming a member, a part of the team here at Georgia Public Broadcasting, Plenty of different ways to do it.
Herb has been here a number of years, just about that long.
And I know one thing at the $35 level, you can become a member of Georgia public broadcaster.
That's right.
You get a foldable stadium cushion with the GPB logo to watch Great high school football next year, which will be on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And then if you decide you can join at the $75 level, which is only $6.25 a month, you'll get that GPB roll up blanket and you'll also get the satisfaction of knowing you're keeping great high school sports on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
You know, John, we started doing some new things this year.
We've gone to the webcast.
You know, we did a football game of the week every game, every week this year and high school football.
And we also did a basketball game of the week and tell them about the webcast coming up for basketball championship basketball championships.
And we've always streamed those.
But also before we got to the championships, you know, you've got to have quarterfinals, you've got to have semifinals before you determine your champions.
And that was on the Web as well.
And we've always thought that it's not just about television.
You have to talk about all the different ways and angles that you can get the product out there and the Internet is definitely one of the ways that's helped us get the product out there in a lot of different hours.
You know, you talk about television at GPB alone over the span of a year, just programing.
You're talking over 3000 hours of original programing.
Then add the 300 hours of championships that we've shown on GPB alone.
Then you add to that all the elements that we've done on the Internet.
So we've really are becoming the statewide voice for high school athletics.
But once again, we can't do it without your help being an MVP for GPB.
Herb's already talked about some of the thank you's.
Let's talk about some more of the thank you's and we talk about combos and you go to the $125 level and that's our first combo.
It's a GPB logo thermos for your favorite beverage.
You stadium cushion, depending on what sports you like, whatever stadium you're in, indoors or outdoors, it works just as well in your wallet.
Throw blanket at $125 level a little over $10 a month for support there.
And you want to talk about combos?
We got mega combos.
I still don't know what the plural for thermos is.
There's two GPB logo thermoses.
You get two foldable stadium cushions and a roll up throw blanket, hundred and $75 level.
You do that by calling the number at the bottom of your screen going on a secure server.
Borg Or you can do it from your AT&T mobile phone by going pound GPB, become a member of the team, continue to be a member of the team, continue to show your support for the only statewide voice that high school athletics has, Herb And that is Georgia Public Broadcasting.
It has been for 16 years and we want to do it for another 116 years.
Yeah, if you want to give somebody your email out there, John, I'm one of the people that know a little bit about the English language can probably help you with that.
Nelson At GPB, Dawg, There you go.
My mother was an English major and I still don't know what thermos plural is.
I don't either, but we're going to get back to that in a little while, as soon as somebody tells us what the correct answer is.
But the correct answer right now is how do you help Georgia Public Broadcasting keep great high school sports on the air?
Well, that's a simple answer.
I even know the answer to that one simple question, because the answer is you go to your phone, you pick it up and you talk to one of the folks there and you say, I want to help high school sports stay on the air in Georgia.
Don't forget Georgia Public Broadcasting, along with all the public broadcasting, has voted seven years in a row by a poll.
The most trusted institution in the country.
So that means you can set your kids down in front of the television, as you know you do during the day.
You know, they're going to see quality programing throughout the day.
You don't have to worry about them being there.
They're going to learn.
They're going to learn values.
You can set them.
You can come home in the evening.
You can turn on the Jim Lehrer News Hour.
You know, you're going to get the Square story, not one side of the other, but the square Truth about the news.
So keep Georgia Public Broadcasting's programing coming.
The way to do that, become a member?
Yes, we have the great thank you gifts.
But again, the thank you gift, the most valuable thank you gift is always is going to be what we do for you and what we do for your family and what we do for your community.
Go to your phone.
Become a member right now.
Let's go see some more high school basketball.

Redan leads Norcross at this five girls championship.
3530 Dave Garner, Mike Glenn, back with you.
And take a look back at that first half.
Mike, I tell you what, early on it was the Kayla Davis show for Norcross.
Oh, she had a variety of shots.
She was making floaters, runners, long range jump was high, organ jump was catching and just sizing up the defense, leading it perfectly.
Were taking what the defense was giving, really having her way back on the other hand, how about if you look at this shot right here, I mean what a Courtney Wilson she was.
Andrews throughout this first half, the crossover dribble stop and pop from deep the long range passes.
And Kierra Hayes really was a big star for Reed and in that first half the left hand shot drive into the basket as well.
Taking a look outstanding here and at the numbers right here to Mike it reflects pretty even across the board but you look down 11 of 22 field goals, 14 of 27.
Again, turnovers points off of those turnovers.
Pinch points.
Paige, of course, was 16 right there.
Well, Eric Hunter standing by with Coach Hammer to get her thoughts on the second half.
Eric, Coach, real quick, talk about what you try to do here in the second half to slow them down defensively.
Well, I think we need to play some defense.
I don't think our defense has been nearly as good as it needs to be.
We're going to have to do a lot better job than we did in the first half and get on the boards and do a little bit better job with their post.
Good luck in the second half.
Thanks, Coach.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you, Eric.
Great job here tonight.
Indeed.
And looking now at the second half like because we kind of put things back into perspective.
Alisha Andrews, of course, has been that little spark plug that we kind of expected her to be for Redan.
And then, of course, Kayla Davis certainly hasn't disappointed on the other side.
Yes, but I think they two things.
One, I think what Norcross has to do is get back better defensively.
Page got much, many too many layups.
They got to get back and took some of those transition baskets down.
And also they've got to get Damian a little bit more involved.
Shields, the leading scorer.
But man all right.
Of course, the best.
Alisa Daniels, of course, did not hit a bucket in the first half, but she came right out here, out of the gate, stepped outside, you see six ties and four lead changes in that first half.
And that's a big bucket for Redan out of the gate.
Davis On the other end, that shot would not go out of bounds.
Last touch by Evans.
So it will be Norcross basketball later.
It is playing in their fourth title game in six years have been a mainstay here at Gwinnett of course winning the 2009 title over Marietta Evans had 17 points in last year's state championship game.
That's Nia Evans.
She was only held a two, though, in that first half by Norcross, but had a real big presence, Dave in that lane defensively and on the boards.
A shot would not go.
Davis trying to follow her own shot unable to get rid of it.
Page Quickly ahead to Andrews trying to outrace defenders and lays it in there somehow around the shields.
Boy, she had to know the shields was swatting yet that one but the little Andrews foul just enough role to get that shot up off the glass and in she's not shy about going in there and though she's not mixing it up Kayla Davis again with 13 first half points Brianna Jordan with the basketball leads the team in assist with 98 on the year in steals with 91.
Yes.
They're not getting the ball too right there, though.
And and she's touching it so rarely.
I think she's losing a little of her rhythm.
They need an easy shot for her.
Got to get the she is a leading scorer averaging almost 18 a game.
The coach was disappointing going to take her out of game.
I'm sure it's going to be a short stop on the bench, but trying to get her attention.
Number 31, Amari Cobb, the five nine junior end of the lineup for Norcross.
So you to look at the turnovers Norcross with nine Redan with four also number 12, Bianco O'Neil checks back in for the Lady Blue Devils.
Meanwhile, Evans on the other end kicks it out.
ANDREWS three point shot back iron would not go and Jordan unable to save it had a hand on it but lost it along the baseline and it will stay with the damn good hustle that on that play by Jordan couldn't quite corral the ball we talked about Briana Jordan of course committed to Tennessee Tech, daughter of Brian Jordan, as you mentioned earlier and also nominated for McDonald's all-American status.
They're going to look at that right there.
How about that, The proud dad, George?
I'm sure this is one of the few guys, as you know, to play professional football and baseball.
But he says, I'll have to try to help you with your basketball somehow.
I tell you, he sports you know, a lot of people remember him as the the you know, with the Braves.
But I remember him as that strong safety for the Falcons that lay in those legs.
And I tell you what, he was fun to watch and both both arenas Yeah and he just gives her a little leg competitiveness which he obviously did because look at it right there.
You never nice bounce pass pass tough shot right there in traffic for Cobb who was unable to finish it.
Here's Jordan turn around will draw the whistle that one going to go against Evans Well that's some of that toughness that she gets from a dad and she's able to spin and get to the free throw line.
Know across of course, met up with Roselle in round one.
Well, that one there.
You look at Jordan's numbers here tonight, two points, three rebounds, knocks down the first at the line.
Round two is Marietta Who Norcross Peters.
You see Brian Jordan there and any dancer that tends to I mean, I was looking at Antonio Davis last night.
He was up shouting to Kayla Taylor, you got to do something.
I mean, he's a hundred bucks added to it.
Bam.
There's just great to see.
I love to see the relationship these guys have with their daughters with.
And meanwhile, their road went through Camden Lounge.
Brad will institute Milton first year to play.
Right now Andrew's whoa look Anthony Archibald like this he just cut through that defense and floated in the air and laid it off the glass 13 points tonight for Lisa Andrews.
Both of these teams, of course, playing their semifinal games yesterday.
So they're right back on the court here tonight.
Friday night.
But I don't think legs are going to be a problem here at all.
It's all about adrenaline here this evening.
It's all adrenaline.
As you look at Andrews, just tuck that ball away quite a lot.
And take it all the way to the basket.
You mentioned earlier, she's not shy about going in the lane.
That's the shields and one that's what they've been missing right here is what?
No, cause this is your leading scorer.
You've got to give her some touches and she's got to get you some points on the board.
Take a look out of here.
Catch and finishing in the air.
That's skill and talent from the freshman to Shields.
Again, her numbers eight points tonight make it nine as the Shields completes the three point play and then back in the end down ripple driving, trying to get rid of it.
It will stay with the lady Raiders or they'll run for a nice little perimeter jump, but try to get to the basket, but nowhere to go.
That defense shut down that lane quickly.
Andrews with 17 last night.
PAGE with 15 last night.
So Kiara Paige has hit 431 in two ballgames here in the last two rounds, including tonight.
Meanwhile, Norcross got 19 from the Shield's last night in a 5144 win over Westlake.
Kayla Davis had nine points in that ballgame.
Westlake Try and Milton, it was almost a Westlake Milton boys and girls right championship here tonight.
But that was denied, of course, when Norcross beat Westlake in revenge, knocked off Milton.
Oh, no way to really go on That didn't have much happening on that side of the floor.
Couldn't get to the basket and that's going to bring Jordan out of the ballgame as well, though Jimmy doesn't have a lot of patience when her plan isn't executed as she like for it to be.
But that kind of discipline is good.
I mean, a lot of players wouldn't want to play for her because she's got to instill that kind of discipline in team player.
You have to be a better player.
This page from three point land, just everything are 4135 Redan still leads it by six and we've got a timeout on the floor.
Coach Jerry Jackson showing a little bit of frustration right there.
We'll take a timeout and be right back on the other side with more hoops from the arena when at center broadcast of today's games is made possible in part by the following broadcast.

We've got a good one here in this five girls championship with Dan 41 goal across 35 After the timeout, it's the Lady Blue Devils with the basketball trailing by 63. shot from Davis would not go and we're going to jump off top possession arrow Norcross or Dalrymple really hustling inside they're getting their hands on that basketball and wouldn't give it up to talking about Riordan's playoff success 11 consecutive playoff appearances ten Sweet 16 seven Elite Eights, five Final Fours and three title games with one championship.
Well, they cut off that play inside that time to Jackson.
That's a good defensive adjustment.
Lammers Davis and Davis.
So 16 points tonight for the freshman Kayla Davis is going to be fun to watch over the next few years.
And then on the other end page with the answer has 19 fast pace continuing her assault here in the second half 4438 Now back on the other end.
This one's off the mark.
It misses everything.
It goes out of bounds and it will be ready in basketball, 80 raiders averaging 61 points a game offensively in these playoffs, allowing just 42.7.
They have been dominant throughout the postseason.
Meanwhile, Norcross has been equally impressive, had a couple of close calls in fact, in round one against Ross was just an eight point win.
Davis had 22 Diversi and Jordan both in double figures as well.
But since then this Norcross team has really found the groove.
And there's three for Andrew's.
Are you kidding?
These teams are putting on a shooting clinic and man, just a frustration get creates a turnover.
Andrews knocks down a long range jumper and in there has an anxiety Norcross turns it over that three point shot after this nearly a six point play really now DeShields on the other end and the whistle the foul they're going to be called and it's going to go against Dalrymple And that's a good drive by the shield.
So I mean a very mature drive knows how to draw that foul.
And even when the offensive player kind of creates a contact, but if you got to angle to the basket, you'll get the call.
And she went there and gets to the free throw line durable picked up her third First of all, here's the shields who enters double figures with ten points.
The second lady Blue Devils who do that here tonight.
She joins her teammate Taylor Davis.
So the two freshmen combining for 26 points here so far in this game.
Second one on the way and it's good boy knocks that one down and she's heating up.
You know we pointed out they need to get their leading scorer going.
She's beginning to heat up here 19 last night for George Shields against Westlake 24 and round three over Campbell DeShields Shields also had 16.
So these two freshmen have really been the kind of the heart soul of this this team throughout the postseason, along with the senior Breanna George and boy, a nice drive right there going inside, but not getting anything that time as Andrew.
That's going to be a jump ball at least 319 left third period, 47, 47 point advantage for the lady Raiders.
Again, coach Jerry Jackson in his first season as head coach, assistant coach Rhonda Malone for two years.
Look at the hustle.
Look at that hustle.
Wow, that's a lot of pride on that floor right now.
Both sides of the court arrow belongs to Norcross.
You love to see bodies on the floor.
You love to see people get after you.
Do you like to see them play with passion and intensity and desire?
And that's what you're seeing here tonight at the Mercy Shot look like it was blocked.
Here's Daniels on the other end lays it up shot would not go to Shields out of there with it neither team really giving too many second and third opportunities here on the boards and that's one of the things that Coach Embry talked about coming out of the locker room with Eric Garner.
Was it a little bit more aggressive and having more success?
The boards?
That is exactly correct.
And again, trying to back and slam was Andrews picks up the foul there though there you see coach Jackson Jackson's done a phenomenal job.
His team is playing extremely well, very disciplined and very aggressive all at the same time.
I like what Coach Chambers doing, though, putting the ball right in the hands of the shields and even running a little two person game where you've got Daniels and Davis and a shield on the same side of the floor.
You look at the shields back at the line right here, 11 points tonight, six one freshman trying to make it a six point ballgame and does so as you see, number 32, Nia Evans, the Virginia Tech commits back into the lineup here, the six foot senior here.
You look at the Shields numbers here tonight, a dozen points, four rebounds, four or five from the field and deep.
And I tell you what, they've got college scouts so plentiful here tonight, all salivating, all shots.
Oh, my God.
If I could get one of those for your heart out, guys.
Lot of this Georgia talent do their thing.
Yeah.
I don't think you can leave high school early, can you?
No, I don't think it works way, do you?
Full time, guys.
So pick your mouth off the floor out of state.
Yeah, it's got to take some time.
Second chance points tonight, Norcross, you see, with 13 or them with just two.
So again, the Blue Devils have done a nice job defensively here.
In that regard.
Turn around shot wouldn't go Davis shot misses look at the hustle jump ball call possession arrow right in and Jordan just going right in the middle of everybody there He comes away and ties up the ball at least forces the jump jump ball Alan favors three down but that was a battle underneath.
Look at the little lady going in the middle of the crowd there.
Yes, Andrews with the ball over to Evans who will pull the trigger and play done more.
Evans Showing the outside jumper to defense in the lane the toughness just four points tonight for Evans two in the first that's the first two the second half but she has had a little bit a couple of fouls on her there and it's taking a breather now back on the other end you see Davis trying to take it to the hoop, will draw the whistle and go back to the line six 4948 You kind of see Redan here with an eight point lead, I guess really about their largest of the night.
But it's still very much a ball game.
Here you see number 40, Olivia Walker, the six foot senior step in Coach Jackson.
There you can look at Davis's numbers tonight, 17 points.
Well, Jackson is keeping those big bodies in the lane.
He doesn't want to see Davis and DeShields dancing in and out of his lane.
So these keep that a lot of presence in there and that has not changed.
Now, you know, it's scary for opponents to think that that freshman duo is going to be there for a few more years.
Yes.
Oh, great.
Pass there.
And Walker will go to the line.
All of us had a chance for a three point play.
What a dish, though, set up by Andrews.
Yes.
And Lady Walker just in the game but she her hands ready.
She knows what Andrews will do with that ball when she comes down the lane.
So she was right there to catch it and to draw the foul.
Walker's numbers on the year the senior playing her final prep basketball game here tonight and this is on the first was with Dan with several seniors on their roster likewise for the lady Blue Devils second one on the way from Walker and that went off the back of the armor kept alive though nicely by Mason knocked away it will stay with the lady raiders and Mason quick in that lane there to secure that ball she can you believe Bo Redan 58 straight wins their last loss not playoff loss their last lost was the 2008 title game against Stevenson another phenomenal run.
They are having practice.
Yes.
Undefeated seasons.
Well, Norcross trying to change that here tonight though it's all in the passing lane getting it's not Oh, look at the hustle right there.
Oh, O'Neal the arc O'Neal almost caught out to that couldn't quite grab it and but boy look at the hustle Here's you look at these two This does this is to track runners They're headed for that basketball.
They absolutely should pass it off, Rodney.
Otherwise probably would have had an easy too.
So so as it is the lady raiders maintain a six point lead here with under a minute to play in this third period that went off the mark one of the rare misses tonight by Andrews tries to go and get it back and fouls Diamond to She'll and so that will put for the end of the bonus right here and a rather Norcross and Diamond DeShields will be at the line here Oh shoot the one and 112 points here tonight for DeShields who has been so consistent throughout this postseason.
She's now got 13 and has great follow through on her shots.
I mean, just great technique, knocking down free throws, 14 of 16 from the line tonight from all across the dance seven of 18 So the lady Blue devils with the obvious advantage in that category they've been able to keep this ball game close because of it trail by just four with under a minute to play here in this third period and we will definitely need a fourth period to decide this one.
Oh yes we will.
Long ways from this game all the way.
And that's what you want to see.
You know, the state championship game, he got a big crowd at this building here tonight.
And you want to see it come down to the end if you're a fan.
Yes, you do.
I like what Coach Embry did there instead of letting him hold the ball for that last shots, he double team pressure and got the turnover.
That's an excellent coaching move to change the hand and not allow them to just go for that last shot And now she puts the ball in Davis's hands.
Well, if anyone knows how to prepare a team for a state championship, it's Angie Hamby has done a great job in doing that and her team is prepared here tonight.
And they are taking on a very tough for the team who is 31 to no shot off the bar.
So now is back on the other end in and out.
Yeah, it's tough.
Love.
And once again now it's Davis back and running under 10 seconds.
That's the shields, rather.
Who gives it a pass?
Look at defense.
Wow.
Oh, my goodness.
Georgia.
Oh, what a nice finish from the nice pass.
And we got ourselves a two point ballgame at the end of three 4947 leads Norcross by two.
We're back with the final eight minute period when we return to the Arena Gwinnett Center.
Stay with us.

Yes.

So don't do it here.
Sportsmanship.
It's up to you.
What jerk?
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, serving all of Georgia.
Well, just when it looked like Redan was possibly going to cruise to their second title, North Cross has made it a two point ball game.
And it's very much again, it's Friday night in the folks are decked out.
How about this?
Wow.
They win the award for best dress, though.
Norcross faithful in the house for a dance.
Faithful in the house.
They have filled this building and we are set ready for the fourth and final period, a two point ballgame here at the Arena Gwinnett Center, this five girls state championship.
They have Gardner Mike Glenn with Eric Connor courtside, along with the rest of the GPB crew.
And we've got a whistle underneath here.
This one's going to go against the Lady Blue Devils.
And Alisha Andrews will inbound underneath her own goal.
There's Daniels, who has shown that she's not gun shy from outside the backdoor cut right here.
Try to feed it into Evans.
You you can just feel that the deep Oh, we're looking at that pass now.
What a gorgeous pass by.
Andrew Evans couldn't complete the deal by the beautiful pass by Andrew who created a lot of space right there.
A good bounce pass inside traveling it to be called right there Davis with one too many hops and that's because of that good defense from Evans Yeah.
Evans is strong and wide and plays good D in there and there was nowhere to go for the young Davis on that plate.
Now what was that we set up top here tonight in the in the telecast about this might be one for the ages.
Yes indeed it is certainly lived up to the village.
They got an undefeated Redan team at 31 and taking on a Norcross team that's hungry, searching for their first ever state girls basketball championship, their first appearance here in the title game.
And what you're finding here is that your offense doesn't work as well.
You can't depend on your execution.
It's going to be star time.
Individual excellence will.
Determine this game.
And in the first half you had Paige, who provided it for Reed, and she's trying to provide it for her team now.
And Coach Jackson is looking for that excellent ball from his ballclub.
Coach Hammer's going to be doing the same thing over and over the floor violation against us.
It looks like we've got a lane violation right here against the lady Raiders.
So what was going to be a two shot foul?
Looks like it's just going to be one shot awarded to Kira Paige.
They're going to look at Paige as night 19.7 11 from the field and two rebounds for the junior.
Not seven now.
Yep.
So she will break the 20 point plateau.
The first player to do that tonight for either side.
Both teams now two players in double figures.
And it's a three point ballgame, 5047 Redan leads it.
Here is the pick and roll with the two superstars right here, the Shields and Davis.
And we're going to have a foul going to be called on Daniels.
It looks like a little reach in right there.
This feels like the continuation.
She's already in the pro circuit.
Doughty is so far above where she is logically, that it's amazing that there was still a one possession ballgame right here.
You just see the shields.
And yes, she did.
She wanted that.
Yes, she was just a continuation.
I got to wait a few more years for that.
14 points and seven rebounds for the six one freshman who is at the line here and will knock down the first make it look at a fired up blue devil crowd here.
You know, I've heard some of the coaches then say that she could leave right now and play mid-major collegiate basketball after just her freshman year of high school.
Both of those freshmen good is what they're saying.
Three point shot by Paige who hit the deck but no whistle back the other way it goes.
Lady Blue Devils now trailing by just one, a chance to take the lead right here.
There is a three point shot.
It's on the way.
It's there for Judy Hanks.
Judy Hanks.
I told you she has the shot outside.
Shot.
Nothing but bottom on a gorgeous pass.
And the Lady Blue Devils have a lead, 52 to 50 with just over 6 minutes to play Andrews off the mark of the three point shot.
That's Norcross first lead since early in the first quarter.
Well, Jackson looking for that star, someone to step up for his ballclub Whistle the foul right here on her Dan who's in unfamiliar territory right here actually trailing yes they haven't trailed much all year long.
They haven't shown much over the last two or three years.
That's right.
It's fairly what's trailing.
And I tell you what Dave there's a different mentality in playing from behind.
Yeah it's a it's a much different approach to the game.
A lot more pressure not as satisfying not as freewheeling and creativity struggles when you're behind three point shot would not go behind a door to first miss the front end of the one and one on the other end.
But Now Jordan with the basketball after the miss by Andrews Norcross with a two point lead five and a half to work with and here's the two man game right here.
I like when they run this I think look at Davis and Antonio Davis standing all up cheering for his daughter as the freshman coming through, creating, scoring, leading Taylor Davis with 20 points after that last bucket.
Let's take another look at it.
Great move to create some space and look at the jumper.
Look at the follow through.
Taylor Davis knocking down jumpers.
One more look at the jumper hanging the risk for the follow through.
How you like me now the freshman coming through and we talked about Redan being an unfamiliar territory.
It'll be really interesting to see how the lady Raiders handle this.
As you see Davis's numbers tonight, 20 points, two rebounds, seven of 17 now from the field has put together a remarkable effort.
And this Norcross team is playing with a lot of confidence right now, leading in the fourth quarter.
They are days.
And what the stars do, they make the game easier for everybody else.
Taylor Davis is creating opportunities, George.
Creating opportunities to shields great opportunities.
And the game is easy when you have that superstar creativity and leadership.
That's what Jackson is looking for now.
Can Andrews do it?
Absolutely she can do it.
And they're trying to see trying to her to pull them through now Page pull up tough shot would not go in a charge going to be called against Paige good defense right in the lane Paige had that avenue throughout the first half.
It was closed down on that play.
Here's a replay.
Here's Paige with a nice drive.
And look at this.
Yale's I mean, right there stood her ground.
Yes, she did.
Took the abuse, took the punishment on the other end.
Paige got a hand on that one, taken away by Dow Ripple and now taken right back by Jordan on the other end.
Lays it up and in and the foul with the left hand Jordan with a steal and a left hand land and a chance for a three point play Take a look and look at a read this passing lane anticipating hands up goes high Look at the left hand lane and that's the fundamentals Rianna Jordan with the two and possible three Jordan has been so complimentary of the two freshman inside players and has really enjoyed playing with them and she was talking about earlier in the week how they don't play like freshmen.
Did you see your numbers 6.7 rebounds and it's amazing.
As little time as they've had together.
They play together so well and there's a very happy dad.
Oh, absolutely.
Couldn't be happier.
He and Antonio Davis just cheering on their darlings.
But it's not over and the mercy going to get caught for the father over the back.
Alex Demers dig at the 511 junior serving three fouls now on the mercy of Coach Embry right there.
She's going to take a timeout.
448 left in the ball game.
It's a 7.0 for us lead.
How will Reardon answer the lady Raiders of course 31 to no.
Yeah the number one team in the state drop and take away the next play Davenport will come down here Coach Jackson right there with the commands.
So Chamber of Commerce addressing her team right here, Norcross region champs in 87, 94 and 98.
They lost to Mill Creek twice this year.
Once in the region championships.
And North Cross is the number two seed coming into this matchup.
Meanwhile, Redan, of course, champs in region two out of Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Yes, sir.
And that's a whole lot of pride and expertise and energy still left in this Redan ball club.
And a lot of time on that clock.
The Evans knocking down the free throw will have another Evans with five points here tonight and Redan despite not trailing much is not the kind of team that you would expect to panic.
No, absolutely not.
Evans misses on the second one of two on that trip.
So it's a six point ball game at 5751 Team run tended to Norcross in the last 3 minutes and 12 seconds and that's again that high pick and roll Coach Ambrose run the pick and roll between our two best players Davis and DeShields and she's getting dividends almost each time down the floor.
You see a little bit of frustration brewing from the Lady Raiders a little bit here.
Page on that last one, of course.
DeShields Now back at the line with 16 points here tonight, make it 17.
I was going to say before the start of the quarter, Mike, it may very well come down to who hits the free throws of both teams in the bonus right here.
Yes, that will be a big factor for sure.
And Who shot them?
Very well thus far.
So Sydney Mason, number 20 to check back in for the Lady Raiders.
The Shield's one of on that trip Evans with the basketball still plenty of time here It's a seven point game Andrews looking to create That's excellent defense by Jordan but What an outstanding shot How about Andrews who comes back and hits a big one with all time of defensive pressure and off base and a chance for a three point play for Alisha Andrews and watch this.
Look at the crossover and the step back George right there on him I mean she played good D got the falling Andrews comes up with a big one that could be the star that Jackson is looking for when Andrews is fired up shaking that head after that one.
Now you got to hit the free throw and she rattles it home.
19 points for Alisha Andrews.
And now it's just a five point ball game.
And you knew that Redan was not going to go away.
There's Bianca O'Neil stepping back in for Norcross, and O'Neill plays an outstanding game as well.
Fires a pass, the mercy kicks it over.
Good ball movement by the Lady Blue Devils who get it across the hole, reset the halfcourt, almost impossible to trap this Northwest team.
Too many good ball handlers and passes.
It's Davis O'Neill, Andrews Try to knock it away from behind.
Yeah this guy that quite often not getting dividends here in the second half in that tough pass right there Davis shot would go Evans with the rebound Here's Andrews again watch out trying to feed Daniels inside post up puts it up and will draw the foul Daniels uses her body well leaves with her body, protects that ball and she's able to get a two shot foul from that play.
Nice pass to Daniels inside and Lisa Daniels a six foot junior at the line.
Couple of points here tonight trying to tighten the gap and gets the roll and it's back to a one possession game now at 5855.
Coach Jackson starts Sweat over there.
I think he's loosened the collar a little bit.
Indeed.
He's not used that seat at all.
Much of this ballgame.
Daniels Second one on the way in.
It's there, a two point ballgame and the pressure, the full court pressure.
But again, not an easy team to press.
He's got some very good athletes, but these are some outstanding ball handlers, almost all of them on this lacrosse team.
And credit the lady Raiders.
I mean, you know, they fell behind seven or eight points right here.
Yes.
And it looks all but over with all this kind of a turnover turnover, trying to feed it in there.
Ball loose on the floor, picked up by the lady blue.
Look at that play found Daniels.
Oh, my goodness.
What an effort.
DANIELS Just really clipped DAVIS But she's going for the ball.
I mean, this is just an aggressive play.
Now.
Ripple couldn't get to the basket.
Look at this.
Die for the ball.
Look at that effort right there going for the basketball.
Davis hit the ground hard.
Yes, he did.
A little wobbly, but she will stay in the lineup.
She's okay.
So that was Davis that said it was that was a tackle right there.
Oh, my God.
That was a fan.
I mean, that's just a hustle play.
I mean, nothing.
No mean spirited about it.
She just wanted that basketball society went for it.
They Yep.
They're going to look at it 20 points here.
This is the free throw.
She may still be a little shaken up.
Yes, but Kayla Davis, the sister of freshman year, 20 points back of the line right here.
We're talking about this game coming down to the final quarter.
It may very well come down to the final possession.
Could it?
Very well could.
This is who needs to have the ball, obviously, for Redan to create that when knocked away Last touch by Jordan.
Good defense by Jordan.
No denying that pass to Paige.
It's Jackson pacing the sideline page off the inbound gets it in touchdown ripple and what a job right there's going to be charging Well Dell Ruppel tried to fake with the pass and drive on the end but that's a good defense Look at this I mean she's right there The shield stance there takes those charges outstanding defense.
I mean, like I say, they play well beyond their years.
That's an outstanding play by the president for fouls.
Now, Mackenzie Dalrymple, the five age senior as you see, time out on the floor right here with 309 left to play that's going to Norcross Lady Blue Devils out of region leading it by 359 to 56, of course.
Rhoden the number one team at 30 and coming in here tonight, as we mentioned, 11 consecutive playoff appearances, three consecutive Final Fours by everybody.
This damn pick up the Giants, 90,000 square.
It's time, though.
Changing memory, of course, Coming up later on here tonight, it's the Westlake Lions at 30.
And to take it gone.
The Milton Eagles had 28 and four that one to get approximately 845 right here live on GPB to fine flights in it Herb white the elevator from dictator of the year call it that one for you a little bit later on here tonight.
Meanwhile Dave Gardner alongside Mike Glenn Stingers, the house with us, Eric Hunter, courtside for, 3 minutes left in Regulation North.
Darren, Look, George, look.
Yes, look at Briana Jordan.
Go up and grab that rebounded and stick it back five points and play the D on the team that one block Andrews nearly had it ripped away inside Evans and 000 that's laying on the floor begging for that ball The ball nearly had a chance it three take a look at everything Howard is in gets the foul and hope they get that ball Find his way out of it not go.
I don't know why not.
Bill Evans will have to first win on the way off the iron Evans with five points here tonight still plenty of time in this 1 to 44 is an eternity as we all know.
High school basketball five points tonight five rebounds second went all the way and that one misses as well the mercy out of there with it's over then comes up empty.
On that trip.
I think they'll run this pick and roll again with the SEALs and Davis right here in the middle.
No, just getting the ball to the SEALs.
Three point shot all the way.
Hanks is up and knocks it down.
Hanks with the ball on from the corner, knocks down a big jumper, Judy, and hangs with 11 points.
And it's a 6456 lead.
And then right back on the other end.
Andrews off the glass gets it back quickly.
21 points tonight for Lisa Andrews.
Another big night.
We saw it We heard Coach Hamby while ago talking about keeping the ball in the middle of the floor.
Oh, sure.
That took care of page 0204 easy shot of the night, putting completed under 2 minutes to play and all of the ball handlers being tested by the pressure from Dan Gordon inside had it knocked away and you could see the frustration on the face of Redan, this is still very much a ball game, but you can you can look at the faces and you can look at the body language of both teams.
Yes.
And you can tell who has the momentum.
Yes, you do.
Yes, you do.
And then also a very tight ball game.
Oh, absolutely.
And a just hanging their hats on a big play, something to kind of change that momentum, but then created and Brianna, George becomes the fourth different lady blue devil to reach double figures here tonight She's got ten.
Meanwhile, Redan with two players with 20 or more.
Paige and Andrews both have 20 and 21 respectively.
They chose the money for Jordan two or two on that trip.
She's got 11 6658 Now all of a sudden the lady Raiders again have to start throwing them up here and that one off the mark.
But Paige will go to the line and she should shoot three here.
You will rest a smart play by Paige.
I mean, Coach Jeremy doesn't like that call, but.
But Paige created and initiated that contact, but had the defense out of vulnerable position and made a play.
Outstanding intelligent play.
Paige, Paige, 60% free throw shooter.
And as Sidney Mason goes in, sit here Clarkson Senior goes out there going to look at 23.
Kayla Davis She won't be over very long, taking a breather and being congratulated by her teammates right there.
I think she's still reeling a little bit from that shot that she took awhile ago and she hit the attack.
Yeah, I think so.
Meanwhile, Paige adds to her arsenal, and these are some big free throws from here on out is huge, particularly for the lady Raiders.
Two of two right there to see if she can make it three for three.
And you know, the pressure is coming.
And I'll tell you, Kayla Davis has been the primary ball handler for no call.
So with her on the bench, it may be legal and it is not a foul going to be called on.
NORCROSS So two out of three for Paige.
But the lady raiders get the ball back and now they shoot more free throws.
Cydney Mason So this could turn out to be a huge possession right here.
Next goal, Denver's going to have to get Kayla Davis back in this ball game real quickly on that.
The fact that she's sitting over there could be as huge as these free throws because they struggle without her presence in there to handle that basketball.
Still a minute, 31 left.
Mason's second one is on the way.
It's good.
She's got six and now it's just a four point ball game.
Yeah, the hold everything All right?
You go.
Everyone's a time out.
One reason she wants to get Kayla Davis back in this ballgame.
How about it, Boy, this crowd fired up here and both sets of fans.
It's been just an emotional tug of war here in the evening.
These two teams that battled back and forth, we've had lead changes, quite a lot of runs there.
And it just just when it looks like one team gets away from the other, they're able to close it here.
They get right back out to outstanding teams.
Great additions on the line for Jackson, trying to rally his troops here.
Very much in this ball game right with an open the season as the number one team.
Of course, after being 27 and over last year winning the state championships here they are 31 to no this year trying to capture their second straight title.
If they trail right now by four to North Cross leads it 6662 North Cross looking for their first ever girls state basketball title here tonight and know the pressure is coming the full court pressures right now they have all five players up in the pressure position.
They're going to look at North Cross fouls redan seven apiece, timeouts left and lacrosse, they've got three Redan still got two.
Davis still out of the ballgame.
And we'll see how they handle this pressure.
I think she's still a little shaken up, thanks to others.
I think so too.
There's Hanks across.
They do get it across.
So Andrews will prevent that foul at her third and right now that might be part of her dance strategy is to go ahead put Norcross wherever the line you might not want to put this young lady there No thanks Knocks it down 12 points tonight for Janine hangs the five five senior three.
She said, well, from wherever she shoots it and now she's getting three wins.
The second one on the way off the mark Big board there by Evans.
So it's only a one point possession that one in and and a personality called on page boy tough luck at all a technical foul What a big ball on the bridge I think and look at this ball in and out What tough luck for Redan and there's the hustle right there Crowd fired up So now hangs will go down on the other end and shoot and she'll be all alone here.
Lot of emotion, a very emotional ballgame here tonight between these two and see Coach Hembree talking things over with her team.
Meanwhile, the lady Raiders trying to rally a discussion here at the scorer's table about the technical foul.
Officials have done a good job here, keeping things in check.
They have pretty well officiated game in tournament.
I want to thank all of our viewers out there for tuning in to GPB live right here on a Friday night, checking out the best high school basketball action around the state of Georgia.
These two have combined for a game that we thought it would be.
Yes.
Doesn't get any better than this one.
Thanks.
With 12 points tonight, shoot the technical foul right here.
Nothing nets like to have another a two shot technical knocks down both.
She's got 14 and the lady Blue Devils now will shoot the normal free throws that we're actually called here.
Wow.
So this is a huge potentially possession for the Lady Blue Devils.
So now you've got Briana Jordan at the line.
She's shooting a couple knocks down the first.
You have said another and they should have the basketball as well.
Yes.
And so this could potentially be a six or seven point possession for the Lady Blue Devils when it's all said and done.
And you got to really need some turnovers and some great baskets.
If you read Dan Holloway, this is the largest lead to the night for the lady Blue Devils.
They lead it by nine with just over a minute to play.
And now if you're redan, you pretty much have to foul in this situation.
Andrews Trying to catch up to it.
Get great hustle though.
How can you not just love the way these ladies are playing this game for both ball clubs, but very obvious with read them.
Look at Andrews here.
Look at her dive for this ball.
Given everything she has on the floor.
On a take on the result of the coach.
Now someone over there that looks like it is going to be on the road and bench.
And so once again, Cross will head to the line here.
Briana Jordan will shoot the free throws.
And again, just a little frustration right here being shown on the fire at the end.
And they have not been in this situation much this year.
But this Norcross team, you got to give them credit.
They have come in here and they say you want heck of a game.
They have played extremely well.
I mean, both ball clubs have played so well.
And, you know, Redan is HERDMAN really right now?
We are excited a way to play this one full out to their best ability and see if they can make a miracle happen.
Brianna Jordan with 15 points, has made a living at the free throw line here in the second half.
And now the lady Blue Devils have the basketball, too.
After the technical and an 11 point lead foul there.
Still one minute and a second left, but time is starting to tick away.
On the Lady Raiders hopes of a repeat state championship.
Oh, indeed.
I mean, it has been a very well-played game.
But with one minute left and Norcross at the line shooting two, he hangs with 15 points.
He's played an outstanding game.
Also any time they needed an outlet valve to kick the ball out she was there.
Then coming up Westlake in Milton the five eight boys championship immediately following this here tonight.
We can only hope that that game will live up to the excitement that this one has provided us here this evening.
Three point shot in and out of how many tough mug shots has three.
Bay had 75, 62.
And the foul looks like it's going to go against Dalrymple that that'll be her fair share And then you can only applaud for these young ladies if they put it all on the floor.
You know, this is like game day that you will remember the rest of your life.
I mean, there's nothing bigger than playing a high school state championship.
I can personally relate to that.
And having played in one, it'll be the most memorable game of your life.
But one thing you want to from it is saying, I gave my best and those remain players.
So it looks like they'll probably lose this game.
They can all say we gave our very best, we have nothing to be ashamed of and a lot to be proud of.
Absolutely.
Because of Dalrymple, one of those seniors.
It's a force playing her final game here tonight.
Two very respected and very successful high school basketball programs here this evening.
Yes Two of the top teams in the nation, three point shot, would not go again.
Angie Hamer, as we talked about, really laid the foundation for that college SEAL program winning state titles in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
And now back in the high school game after being at the University of Miami for a year.
And she's looking at her fourth state title as a high school basketball coach with two different programs.
Now that's out of time, out of floor at 38.7.
Yes, she's done fantastic job and she really teaches a team concept and all her players learn how to play within that concept.
She's got two phenoms on this ballclub now, make no mistake about it.
I mean, Davis and DeShields are both phenomenal players who have tremendous careers, but they play with they need to flex up, play with their teammates, don't try to take over the game.
And a lot of that can be attributed to the direction and leadership that they put in for these guys.

Some of that, of course, set up by the two technical fouls.
And the lady Blue Devils were able to benefit from those at the free throw line and been able to knock down the free throws in the second half.
They were.
But you know, David, they can't even really acknowledge that too.
They got to play.
I mean, this no cross team came in and won the ball game.

You just really turned it on in the fourth quarter and especially defensively, I thought we stepped up, got huge rebounds, especially when we had to talk about that fourth quarter.
That was amazing the way you guys came back there early in the fourth quarter.
