And it has been a humdinger of a first day and a half of high school whoop.
Let me tell you.
It sure has.
And I can't wait to see what's ahead.
And we've been talking about all these teenagers in high school playing their state championship games.
And Mark, you're from the state of Indiana.
Talk about a basketball powerhouse of a state.
What was it like growing up in a state like our basketball just really reign supreme?
It really was.
I mean, you look at some of the players that came out of there in high school, like Oscar Robertson and George McGinnis and Rick Matt.
I mean, it was a very that's what everybody did.
You played basketball.
And my senior year, we got into the sectionals and we got blown out one game.
So I got to play.
You know, they got the last guy off the bench and I knew who that guy you were, That guy.
And I took a jump shot, and the guy doing the radio play by play called me by the wrong name.
So I guess that's why I got into this business that says it all.
Well, I'd say you're in a nice, comfortable spot, and I missed the shot, so maybe that was a good thing.
Well, here you are going to be on the other side of it, right?
That's right.
All right.
Well, we're going to send it now to Sean John for the game open.
I'm excited for this girl's five day title match.
John, take it away.
He's going coast to coast.
Clear the runway.
He's coming in.
It's a helicopter slam jam the pull up from three.
Watch this guy go wheel drive, Backs it in and gets it from the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center Flex.
It is the middle of making Madness championship.
Three of four on day two of 315 championships to be decided in the doctor wraps words and GHC basketball championships.
We go with Stevenson, the first team that we will be referencing from DeKalb County, the loan to cap County team that has left Stevenson beating Lithia Springs by 25, Brunswick by ten, Sequoyah up by two, Forest Park by 11.
And that's how DeKalb County got their last team to play the team from Maize.
On the flip side, the lady Raiders played Alexander, won by 25, beat Woodland by 23, beat Gainesville by 22, but they beat Dutch Town by 18 to get to the last game of the year against Stevenson.
I'm John this is Sean.
Thanks for watching us however you are accessing us here whether it's on GPB TV's GPB Talk or the GPB sports app, we have DeKalb County, a tremendous pedigree always when it comes to basketball.
We have the city of Atlanta, once again, a great pedigree when it comes to basketball all and they're both meeting here.
It's a bit of an odd meeting because you're used to seeing them working independently.
Tonight.
They're playing each other well.
A great game for us all to enjoy and watch one team from DeKalb County as we talk about the other from AP School.
But both teams are hungry, but importantly, both coaches are hungry.
So this is a great game for us all to enjoy and also watch.
Two coaches really use their accused, the likes of basketball, to wheel their teams to the championship.
All right.
Let's start with the Stevenson Lady Jags and they have a familiar name.
For those of you who know you're college basketball, there's a Wingate on the plane.
Yeah.
Davion Wingate, the daughter of Wingate, then went to Georgetown.
But she's a software with the cap transfer.
She's a great player.
She's a get it done player, and she's going to put this team on her back and will them into a championship.
And we've been spending a lot of time talking about youngins.
On the flip side, for me, as a sophomore, Wall Street comes in here with a great mindset.
She's a leading scorer on this made squad.
She's a dynamic player.
According to her coach.
She has a big heart.
She's fearless.
She has no conscience when it comes to shooting the rock.
She's going to be looking to put up a lot of points for this Mase team this afternoon.
Sophomore point guard, all five feet, five of her are the third member of our team who will be our eyes and ears on the other side of the court.
Sam Crenshaw.
Sam, what's the early word that we hear with May Lady Raiders?
They get it all loosened up and I had a chance to spend some time with their coach, Shantay.
For us, of course, she is no stranger to this facility and the state championship game.
She did it at a Columbia High school before coming up with the Maze High School.
You said it's something new and different for them.
So she did some things to try to keep things normal.
They arrived here yesterday.
They came over and watch the games last night.
They practiced at Northside High School yesterday, so they've been in town for a day.
One thing these girls have is a lot of spirit and intensity.
They're ready to play one thing they don't have, though, is social media.
There's cell phones, coach, little old school.
But they get off the bus, come to town and play the championship game.
They get over the phone coach.
They went to Washington, DC for five days.
They got no phone.
She feel like it's good for them to do some team bonding.
You get focused on the job at hand, so they hope to get a championship tonight, get their phones back to after the game.
I hope for their sake they get their phones back after the game tonight.
All right.
Let's take a look at our starting lineup produced by our friends at Regions Bank, Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more.
There's a miracle among us.
We talked about Davion Wingate, Beamon Terry on a cave Caveman Honorable mention in the city of Atlanta, the 510 senior and Chloe Culpepper will be six one in the middle for the Stephenson Jaguars and the Jaguars Pedigree Championships.
The banners hang 0408 Dennis Watkins, DeKalb County Coach.
First gig he had.
Was it Henderson High School, which no longer exists?
And then there was an opening at Stevenson for the men.
He didn't get the job offer in and time, so they said, Well, hey, why don't you coach the girls?
He's like, okay, I'll coach the girls.
And he's done a tremendous job coaching the girls program at Stevenson.
Those banners, Oh, for an eight, you know, it's all loosey goosey.
But once they get it's all business when you get on the floor.
On the flip side, Mayes starting lineup that's again brought to us by our friends at Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more.
Kenya seems to be a street.
We talked about her a few seconds ago, Kendall Park, the sophomore, Gina Smith, the six footer and Harlan Wyatt will get the started center, the six to senior for the Mays Raiders.
In this battle of number two versus number eight, there is the head coach, Sean Tate, for Shantay.
Frost won three championships in DeKalb County, Columbia, while Dr. Phil McCrory was winning.
On the boys side, Shantay Frost had Mecha Frost, the daughter had Zuri Frost, another daughter winning for Columbia on the girls side.
So Shawn Frost has been here before and she's also in possession of all the cell phones.
So let's go to the Keys to Success, produced by our friends at SG 60, the Technical College System of Georgia.
Learn more, Earn more for the Lady J.
Hey, hey, hey, John.
I talked to Athletic Director Horse Dance and they're very supportive of this Stevenson team, even though they're the only team that's representing DeKalb County.
There's no pressure from DeKalb County, but this internal pressure, they want to win and take this back and be representing that area.
You have to play with passion, though.
Have fun tonight.
But you have to play with passion.
You got ten seniors on this team.
On the flip side, for the lady Raiders, well, the Raiders come in here.
They're representing Atlanta Public School system.
They're the only team representing Atlanta, the eight Yale.
So there's a lot of combativeness between the two areas there in the city of Atlanta.
But they have to understand listen to Coach Frost.
She's been here before.
She knows how to win.
Trust her.
She is a winner.
Those are your keys to the game brought to us by our friends at the technical college system of Georgia Tech, PSG.
Learn more, earn more.
And with the lady Raiders chanting for us knew there would be a bit of a honeymoon period last year.
Didn't know if it would last a season or a season and a half.
But she has said that her girls the word she used, it's a great Scrabble word, malleable, right?
That means that, you know, they get to actually you can mold them.
You go to University of Georgia.
We know we went to all the class.
I'm going to leave that door closed.
I'm going to leave that door closed.
A malleable group of girls, they're going to Georgia Tech.
I hey, I'm leaving that one alone.
I went to school outside the state of Georgia.
No, leaving that one alone.
It's a 1300.
They say they're going to Athens now, so that's a lot more than what I got when we were in school.
But, you know, look, talking about this, Maisie John, real quick before we go to the tip of coach for it's all about fundamentals.
And you've said something and I've heard her team.
She's talked to this about her team beauty and the Beast on the court.
You are a beast off the court.
You're a beautiful young lady.
And that's a great way of that's a great teaching point in building this program.
Officials for the Game.
Tim Buckner, Daryl Mitchell and Jill Poole, and we were about to tip it up here to determine the third championship of the day.
This is championship number seven from Macon Madness and we're underway in class five eight for the girls out of bounds will go to Stephenson being in will inbound bringing it up Miracle Gray double team lot of pressure by Shaun takes off Scott early on especially when you get into the corners and the foul looks like they're going to call on Kendall Park.
Yeah she came out John and a 2 to 1 press trying to create some tempo and the full court mindset picked up with the foul here.
But Sean she's going to be very aggressive on the defensive end to start off the game.
Dennis Watkins thought that his team probably would be a little nervous in the first 4 minutes.
So we'll see how they are in the first half here in the first quarter.
Turnover in the lady Raiders bring it back Hayes in the white students in the black will be moving from left to right early on here on your TV screen.
30 seconds in they score between Stephenson and Mayes in the five a championship after this is the five boys it will be Altoona and Brunswick.
Someone will walk away with their first state title.
And I think you need to continue to keep your remarks and figuring out, okay, how many hands and passing lanes and will when defense is actually the foundation of both teams.
There's going to be a multiple amount of deflections.
There's jumper didn't go but the bucket did on the follow it give the bucket the Kendall pack coming through the lane off the back of the rim no good First two on the board, another throw up, no good second chance basket didn't happen and we got a whistle on the inside.
Looks like it was a step on the baseline so it's going to turnover and stick with Stephenson.
Oh that's the five second cap and it's called a five.
He's about four and a half before it was inbound double team in the corner.
This is dangerous and there's the end result a turnover pace with numbers and the deuce Yeah John that area right there is no man's land because he has to have four defenders.
Even though you have the two defenders beside him.
And underneath that a bounce also puts it back is this baseline jumper.
No rebound, picked up, no more time.
Third chance not going to happen.
Going the other way.
Well, I think Mase, John is coming in with the mindset to make it a full court game.
Here we go with the transition off of the trap.
Full court.
Nice finish there by street, very talented sophomore Shantay Fast and the Lady Raiders tried to drive.
He tried to pass him.
She was up against the baseline turnover Stephenson coming down the pull up jumper short rebound picked up by Mayes got numbers if they want to take advantage of it now three on to your open great block that time by Lee Beaman and she'll come up the floor with it for the lady Jags inside that time going open nice put in the defense in the penetration John defensively just out of position the last game he'll be back up with an end to that time for Mase goes to Harlem like as I'm watching the Stevenson team now it's only a little windy and because of the pressure that Mase is putting on them, we're still young in this game, so it's going to look at fatigue.
Could possibly become a factor here.
John, This game, 3 minutes gone long jumper off him, no nays with the rebound, Mayes has numbers again in transition.
Missed the layup Second chance goes up and in that's chemistry again rebounds and long outlets John leads two easy baskets and Mayes doing a great job of protecting limiting the second chance opportunities and getting the ball up and in by Terry on a case that's it 282 for off the elbow jumper off the back of the rim No good back comes Stevenson in miracle gray ball stripped away Mayes has it again drive off going to college yards sarge on Gina Smith been doing a great job of cutting the offense outside the paint Great position great charge That's a great fundamental being fundamentally sound defensively step right outside the paint.
Great job, good fundamentals, taking charge at times.
He's got the basketball coming up the floor about the halfway point here in the first quarter amazing in eight for the bills Bobby kind of game that's going to run out it's going to go to Mayes fourth turnover in 4 minutes for Stevenson right now Mayes has a four point lead so the first quarter brought to us by the number four as we're halfway through Mayes leading Stevenson early on in the girls five eight title game for Macon on GPB.
I went out on the points in about three.
You got to have good ball movement watch our turnover make easy playbook Late summer is the time for hoops Great action shot puts it up Angel looking to get some space finds it draws intensity family memories.
Tickets and information available at Atlanta Dream Dot Net flex for the Doctor Ralph Sargeant GHC Basketball Championship for one for the first maze leading Stevenson 8 to 4.

That's all about one of my passions golf.
Strangely, I was not asked to be a part of that particular episode.
I'm going to have to take that up with David, tells Amy.
Talk to Christine and John.
I'll actually go with you on that and play a little round of golf.
I'm saying, Yeah.
Georgia Travel one of the great local programs here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Hey, John, let's start there.
A lot of people don't understand them.
Explain it to you.
Deflections, right hand touches, that's charges.
This forced turnovers, all those things that your defense when your defense creates a certain level of habits and you want to reach 40, that shows that the level of defense that you're at.
So right now, Mays has five deflections and Stevenson has three.
Stevenson from the field started out of four, and they've hit two of their last three in these two for six so far early in the first quarter, introduced into the back court, look at running point he sounds good drive does throws it up at the right hand whistle on the inside I know you're going to call the foul on Chloe Culpepper that is her first Simms goes to the line shooting to Culpepper has one of the two Stevenson baskets in the game so he's free Throw off the can you sense something?
Thinking is good now.
Mindfulness.
She's got a nice stroke She's got a very nice one.
She be goes to the free throw line of this lane continues to grow and the whistle looks like we're going to reintroduce from half court Jennifer Gray impeachment and back and forth with four special females pass the inside.
The Culpepper intercepted means coming back in transition.
There's going to be a pass like a group of people on the floor fighting for it.
And an alternate possession sends it the other way, with Stevenson down four points With your hustle stats, the street is trying to a layup too much traffic.
Just be simple, maybe be the Eurostep, but you got to do a better job of taking over and back ball as he was bringing it up the floor.
So another turnover for Stevenson early on Mayes will get it with a five point lead 325 for the first junior Simms looking to drive does almost had a run rebound off the Miss Stevenson coming out They do not have numbers but looking at something going coast to coast great and big game yes look would the thought about Davis attacking the rim down and you know he's got a strong basketball IQ had confidence about herself and she's going to do everything she can to get championship tonight St hands out to Kendall Powell perimeter with the hollow point layup now looking to go inside the to Smith picked off by Stevenson welcome back four on three but hold it back and trying to find inside work goes inside to Culpeper basket and it looks like Harlem playing was standing on the baseline trying to stick with Stevenson of the last play nice penetration just got to use the screen still didn't leave the dribble the dribble still hasn't slowed her down Teaching point whenever you get a chance to get the ball inside, especially at point blank range, there's a big player when you put it on the ground, the defense is pushing the glass can get fluid ripped through its finish at the rim, very cold pepper a.k.a both sitting close to another 5 seconds hands in the passing lane.
Again, a lot of deflections so far by Mase, but it's still landing in the Stevenson hands Wingate now with it up high will settle it down being the driving baseline in the way but off the call a foul as she made a cut that fouls on things sends her first third on matters.
And here's another look right there The bad rotation by the defense on a rotation has to be there.
Another deflection Flora made it a turnover Stevenson coming up on 2 minutes to go Stevenson only down three at nine six here in the first Once again up high back inside Ryan Muhammad trying to put it up in here sorry Gina Smith 23 And I'm looking at Stevenson's defense, John.
It's like they're defending a foot inside the three point line.
They do have time to do that.
So they can still can take shots, but they want to make sure that as you start to think, let them shoot the three makes it three, but less defend the inside and secure the rebound.
Brunson is not on the rim.
Good.
Stevenson had the rebound, but it was picked off again and the shot goes off the glass.
No offense, Sanders and Stevenson have come out with a two on three.
Another drive into the paint afternoon lowest guy in attack more especially have numbers John attack attack always be down hill That was a great drive great finish there for Stevenson Miracle Dre with the bucket coming up on 90 seconds for the first time he's leading Stevenson by two teenage drive that time Geno Smith off the glass there Stevenson had the rebound lost possession on the floor to keep possession.
Let's see what they do here with streak way up high guarded by miracle Great Kendall Park and Wyatt Sims Drive at the right, hands in the alley, Coleman and Sanders, lot of folks on the floor.
How he's going to come up with it.
That's the answer.
It finally whistles after the possession sticks remains.
Another look at that scramble on the floor championship teams.
There's a reason that both of these teams are in this position that win tonight, John, that shows you heart, hustle and passion.
We've talked about Stevenson plays with that passion at beginning of the game.
John, Part of our our use in the game, that passion winning you a championship.
Five different players touched the ball when it was on the floor.
There's your points off of turnovers means with three baskets.
Stevenson doesn't have one and they almost had the turnover there but couldn't hang on to it.
Kennedy Rushing the six five senior now in the game from Mayes to counteract Brianna Sanders six four frame from Stevenson.
That's going to be an interesting match up things foul before the drive fouls on 15 Cydney Saxton it'll be her first third foul by Stevenson having to go long almost too long street the grab the right hand to keep it in the offensive half and the pack 35 seconds for the first defensive game Hands in the lane by Stevenson 36.1 to go here in the first five a title game looking for the cut, Sanders held her ground and Stevenson coming out with it three on to hold up and block and call a foul on the shot Your foul is going to be on streak with the hands Well you can see she's coming down the court eyes up.
Great being under control outside the paint zone.
Great pass.
Now you got a chance to go to the line capped allows you to hold the line.
It was out of the first 26.7 for Stevenson State, getting adjusted to play in the race for the second circle up and good.
So the margin now for Mayes is 120 seconds to go.
Let's see what Mays does.
It looks like they're going to play for one.
They missed their last five from the floor.
You see if they work it on the inside for their last shot.
Here, you got a whistle.
Looks like Sidney Saxton got called for another foul will be her second 11 seconds to go during first.
In this, Watkins wants to talk with the officials, walk away Mays will inbound the lead into the paint on third in the world watching this is a first hand Sanders With the rebound can Stevenson get something off the floor?
The buzzer is going to have to be launched.
It is it to be sure.
And that's your first 8 minutes back and forth.
First 8 minutes it was 8 to 4.
Stevenson ends with a52 run.
It is DeKalb County versus the city of Atlanta for the girls five eight championship.
Mayes leading Stevenson by one into one on the great GPB right.

For questions like these and many more, don't miss White Wednesdays for a full night of science and nature shows to explore all of life's toughest mysteries.
Why Wednesday, starting at 730 right here on GPB.
What stuck out from the first 8 minutes for you?
Well, John, we talk about deflections.
And right now Mays has 13 and Stevenson has ten.
So both teams are actually utilizing their defense to their strengths now.
But again, points off turnovers, May six, Stevenson zero.
So defense is the primary key for both teams and second chance points six three words will going to make.
So that's the reason why they do have a one point lead long outlet in transition and the deuce at times amazing three a streak back up to a three point margin.
But Stevenson had made three of their last five going into the end of the first, Mays had missed their last six and they'd only hit two of their last 11 before that first bucket in the second quarter.
A lot of high passes and easy to throw.
Caught up.
Yeah.
John you know, any time you got a chance to attack out of transition pass off the steal get his deep shooting great pass off just finish down low first minute gone second quarter those five eight champions that's amazing Stevenson both programs no stranger to playing asking Oh jumper from the corner off the rim No good rushing to pick it back out and started all over again Pass to Hart Stevenson coming down with Kaila Holmes for Stevenson saw some room in the paint Nice handoff nice spin move left hand and Ontario okay yeah I tell you I'm doing a great job John morning's a block shot spinning off on the inside finishing down low good boost here I see Stevenson starting to get some momentum John as we get now they've got a one point lead and wave it on steps and they're going back the other way.
Well, John, since we came back starting the second quarter, Stevenson is the one they're now up plus two in deflections is showing his sense because it's affecting the score of the game He can finish down low nice bingeable drop step to the middle.
Good finish and that's the way you got to play, especially when you've got tall defensive players avoided.
Avoid it in a way you can and should look Stevenson Nice dish there there's a spin case left hand off the back of the rim and in score by any means necessary Beaman looking to drive does thought about handing it off got caught between two different ideas and Mayes is coming back the other way two on to in the foul that time on miracle miracle Dre on the drive by street it'll be her first and we talked about how hard it is to beat somebody in the championship four times in a row.
Yeah it was tough and we saw that done And the same mindset goes today.
Will Mayes as one beat Stevenson team twice this year?
So the Stevenson team has a strong chip on their shoulder, hoping that three time, the third time is a charm for them.
The most important game of the year.
Last time these two players for the region title back in the likes of February 5351, the final score still up and in he's back to a one point lead 3 to 1 to pressure and to get across bounce pass fake in a nice deuce I say John again she's going down we in attack mode you got to be creative but you also have to attack north south east west and that was a great finish down low in transition happens at the basket third chance for Mase doesn't happen, but it looks like they're going to call came for the foul reaching over the back Here's Kayla Holmes with the pretty play Yeah you beat the press with the pass Come down nice fake to the inside finishing with the left Smooth move there A free throw up by Gina Smith will tide once again at 15 Interesting Johnson made seven for Chris Overstreet Stevenson scored the drop in back to play more of a controlled defense that they're going to trap the 1 to 2 in here in the half court.
Kayla Holmes found an opening missed the shot.
Culpeper tried.
She got blocked three different players have touched it.
Stevenson is going to try it again.
Holmes In the corner, the Wingate back up high started over Erica Gray by Culpeper from Happening from it Big left hand by Kay.
But Culpeper it missed the follow but in Culpeper trying to pressure and it will go back to Stevenson now for the steps ball.
This is a lot of times does she get trapped and the rebound and right here she's right underneath the basket.
That's where the guards got to put themselves in their position right there.
They can't leave the ball and it's not her fault.
But does she have nowhere to go?
Long shot from outside.
The arc doesn't go and eight no turnovers Stevenson with 8 minutes left things like that defense right there and we're heading back the other way Yeah I'm looking at Mason on and I think that they're accustomed to the deep outlets but sometimes let's put it in a bad position and right here just trying to force the ball too quickly and that was close to be afraid of was foul right there because she did extend with the elbow and that was pretty close the physical and call it Kendall Park ball that's her second 32nd time out of the game.
This has been as back and forth as this has been what's going on in these huddles right now.
It's Dennis Watkins top.
You know what?
You know, he's grown up from a coach's quality.
He's just trying to get something to them to find out if they're listening, because both of these young teams, they've never been in this position before.
John, This isn't like a team that's returning.
This is new for them.
So you're sometimes talking to people who just don't understand of what he's trying to say.
He's saying a variety of different things, but he wants to see what's sinking in and then he'll stick with that thought as the game team we talked about new for these players, but not new for Stevenson first state finals appearance.
And so the loss in the quarters last two years, all of the games have been on the road this season there.
Even Stephen and their two title games long jumper from the way outside did not go down but the follow goes up and in big bucket by miracle grade and she'll go to the line Stevenson had missed their last six before the follow here and John both teams in a will from outside but the thing is looking at the offensive rebounds and score and finish inside down low the hungry for the basket but it's a three point play foul on Lockhart another sophomore from Shantay Cross it's about two or three points.
A game picked up the first foul there and call another steps move on Maze.
It's going to go back over to Stevenson.
That's their 10th turnover Now the lady Raiders.
Yeah.
Simms is trying to force a play.
Let the game come to you.
It's still a young game.
Let it come to you.
Canes off the glass, miss with the left hand Culpepper blocked by two and they're going to call a foul but that's when see the whistle and the foul was called on Harlan Wyatt.
So with 410 to go second quarter, Stevenson and Mayes back and forth right now the lady jags up to four Macon right here on GPB.

Meghan Coliseum making center play second quarter field goal for Stevenson for 12 Mays won four and we showed you the resume of Stevenson.
What Dennis Watkins has been doing for that program last time he won the title was 2008.
He did it in the arena and at center, and they went up against fellow DeKalb County squad Redan had a lot of work on the inside, but Dennis Watkins and the Lady Jags, they won in oh four, they would solidify it.
Their second title with this win against the lady Raiders of Redan, and they leave the Arena Women's Center with their second championship by beating Redan 58 to 43.
And they're trying to chase after that second title tonight.
We said they're one and one in title games.
Those that win in 2008 coming back in 2015, they've had trouble getting out of the early rounds, getting out of the quarters, having some stellar competition.
And Dennis Watkins told us this week that knowing that they weren't going to get that number one seed, he wanted to get the number one seed coming out of region.
But the word he has used for his playoff run dogfight, every single game has been a dogfight for him.
And they've all been on the road with John that entire time out For 60 seconds.
Coach Walk has been straight to his ranch.
He's got his team around him and it was about motivation.
Motivation coach Fries from the other hand, John Doyle, time out.
She's full time coaches.
She's trying to limit communication.
She's not trying to put pressure on this May's team.
She's trying to tell them a couple of things to do here and there, then execute that.
Then we can talk about things some more.
So two different coaching styles trying to get for the same outcome is winning two Free Throws.
Good by Chloe Culpeper.
The lead is now four for Stevenson at 20 to 16.
Culpeper Now that's six and we're halfway home here in the first half and making policy house pass out of control picked up another turnover that comes Stevenson and a double here Kayla Holmes will get out of trouble long three and two hard Wingate chasing after it.
She can't quite track it down almost over and back body on one end of the court ball on the other side that time by KENYON Sims in the qualifying.
Sims did a great job attacking attack attacking and both teams John really want to continue to play in transition offensively defensively and when you got full steam ahead, it's time to go ahead and go to the rim and see if she can finish here with some free throws and capitalize on now by doubling Wingate lady histories and got three free and they'll pack back in and put the lie cards out.
Can take Oscar up in the press leaving the half court Sims free throw gets that 2217 Stevenson is now one of their last eight from the floor.
Let's see what happens in this possession.
So that was that was a21 three quarter press, John and they've done a good job of spreading out the offense and keeping a good job of protecting the paint, but they've got to do a better job of defensive rebounding.
Chloe Culpepper across the boards got the rebound, but the shot didn't fall.
Coming up on 3 minutes to go, he falls down and the dish off the glass shot doesn't fall for Harlon Wyatt, but it looks like they're going to call Kayla for the foul.
It'll be her first.
It's the eighth for Stephenson.
Something to pay attention to Mayes with seven fouls.
So Harlan will go to the line.
It's the first two point game.
There's so many people looking at the press.
So many people think that for the freshman, the ball is very strong.
It's not just the rotation because the 50 times the defense does, you have to have a weak side and post guard.
Hill That's the most important aspect of the press.
The rotation, you know, 23 in being a 24 in Holmes will sit.
So here's a 2 to 1 now John extend it She's got it in a variety of different ways.
Three quarters full and in the half court.
So that's a great job of being great folks.
Great job focusing on what type of person they want to put out here versus Stephenson.
Well, he Culpeper sits down ran Saunders in the paint now as well Peyman high shot off the back of the rim no good Cate missed out on the rebound back comes Mayes nice pass and they don't get the follow the foul on the reach by pin assumes the first second and John the last two possessions that Mason had in transition they'd missed their layups right there at point blank range just you know this is just this is a trying to cut it off, trying to make up for the missed shot.
And so you got a very ill advised foul.
But you've got to hit those layups.
Those levels are crucial.
And I believe they're going to come fight and they're going to bite means of focus again.
Now, Terry, on a cave was not the last a touch that she went to try to get the rebound off the front end of the one and one.
So to stay with the Jags and Beamon will inbound from the baseline looking for something long and have to go touchdown pass intercepted and ST gets the layup solid Beamon wanted to do is have to go all the way to the back court as the outlet but it got intercepted and a stumble there and another to give Mayes more in a hurry and that's what Shaun Frost is looking for that's a back to the back tip now.
Great three great run that by Damion Wingate and we get to the great job of attacking attacking but the back tip from Mayes is there and I think that's going to be something to help propel the defense to be a little bit more aggressive as the game continues here with 2 minutes to go in the first half.
John Street with the runner no out of bounds stays with me.
Okay.
For those who aren't quite there, they're watching.
They like basketball.
What were you talking about?
Well, every time you know, you've got somebody always chasing from the backside.
And what coaches do is if they beat biggest in the front part of the press, now you've got to come from the backside and try to back to not the ball to your teammates that are in front of you so you can force either a bad pass or either fast layup.
And that's what made it, even though they didn't get the back to the pressure, is there.
But they did a great job of attacking and get to the rim.
All right.
Speaking of the lady Raiders, this is what they've been able to do this season.
Charlotte Frost in her second year, this is the region standings, the subregional standings out of Region six, Maine was Banneker, Tri-Cities Carver, Atlanta, who played in the championship game a couple of years ago against Shawn Tate for us.
She was at Columbia and Creekside Mayes, 27.
And to a second quarter field goal number Stephenson, four of seven Team Mays three of them and Mays with those four in a hurry don't have a point lead here with 2 minutes to go first half they don't get a lot of basketball to go just left in the first half.
It's still a young, immature game.
It's not going to happen until the second half, maybe the mere part of the fourth quarter and the winner shows their face.
And both teams are playing hard playing to their strengths and weaknesses as so it's really been a fun game and I'm enjoying watching it as the long outlet to bring it back in bounds.
To start the play from Mayes Ball tipped and out of control off once again.
Tina Smith And it will go to Stevenson.
It's going to work quickly and obviously Beaman saw something to work it in quickly to Wingate so they wouldn't have the opportunity.
Mayes to set that press and film up against.
Yeah, that press is very, very hard and very effective there for Mayes and get it to Green get let her do her thing shot Miss days coming back the other way It's three on three right now Afternoon though it's good looking the same thing you seems just getting to the rim John making that we got message on the first I talked about the back to him that was an action that was affected by that back tip from the try the first time because she was thinking someone was behind her and here we go just attacking the rim and just Simms doing a good job of getting to the rim and finishing strong in transition.
Fantastic job.
Here's the other look on the right action.
Right off the glass is good.
Under 90 seconds to go here in the first half.
Let's see what Maze decides to do.
Stephenson Hacking it in the Paint Demon Liana Saunders Mayes right now just content to hang out on the perimeter as we reach the last minute of the first half.
One, two and three.
Simms One street, two pack, three you seen on the perimeter a lot in the passes.
Gina Smith 23 off and a little bit Harlem layup back from Stephenson with 35 seconds swinging this three is off the back of the good goodbye north of Dre Stephenson with pressure Mayes is trying to break out in the last 30 seconds high jumper off the rim No that is Allen Wyatt with the follow and the foul looks like that's been going on Terry gave it the hands and feet trying to get that opportunity second foul all I missed the free throw was seven and eight before that coming into the last 20 seconds.
Wingate is hard to high.
Is that pressure going up from his feet?
And we did a great job of slicing through the defense, which is a fantastic job and a pretty good chance for Jordan right after.
Right before that.
Three four free throw in the game and Control called a team to the sideline.
She's like, Why?
Why?
Why?
Just got the ball in 49 plus seconds to go up by three, take care of the ball.
Hard shots are like turnovers and do understand that he may have an open shot, but time, score and possession is very important.
Is the free throw open in Damian Winger that's to a 15 point assistance this one for second free throw runs out Amazing play for the last shot Sweet looking back but can you since I tried to find the rim doesn't happen one coming three Kennedy rushing in checking space We'll see we're going to go high with the inbounds back and see if they can get it easy to make it quick.
Jumper got a layup with the deuce in the end of the first half and then makes Mayes lead to 2723 in the game worth the effort.
The numbers for most of the first half barely even down the line.
Baze ends up getting the points late, the defense getting there.
And let's send it over to Sam with that Coach Shante for us here with coach shot to brows 2723 at halftime, thoughts about what the team was able to do in the first half.
Oh, we didn't play defense very well, so we got to clean up our defense.
We got to play more aggressive, we got to rotate faster back and we got to stop reaching so much and rebound the ball well.
So we've got to do a better job of defensive play notes about the face of this opponent because you've know about them.
You know what?
They may make the adjustments, they may it to halftime thoughts about coming out in the second half.
I'm really concerned about Mayes High School and what adjustments we have to make because I know if we play our game we're going to have to play better defense and we're gonna have to take care of the basketball and get up and down the floor in order to be successful.
Louisville Good things in the second half.
A couple good things in the second half.
I definitely look for good things.
Yes.
Good luck to you.
That is coach shot tape for us.
It is halftime May 27 and Stephenson 2023.
We continue at halftime Sam thanks very much Shante Frost very fired up and ready to go for the second half very fired up at halftime.
Is that a chance to make sure everyone's in check and make sure they they're executing the way they want?
All right.
We're getting ready for the JB halftime show here at halftime with the girls five a game between Mayes and Stephenson.

I know that these are two teams that know each other very well.
Mayes beat Stephenson twice in the regular season.
They were both pretty close games, so we'll have to see what happens.
It's tough to beat a team three times in a row It's always fun to play those rivals during the championships, isn't it?

Oh, he's on your head.
I've never seen anything move quite that fast in my life.
We're about to make what would call a bear burrito.
It's true love.
Can I have this for dinner tonight?
Sure.
Thank you.
Come on, give me a kiss.
The poor thing about Frank.
He's got to have good ball movement.
What's our turnover?
An easy playbook.
Summer is the time for who's great.
Action showed up.

Mayes leading Stevenson by four.
Sam Crenshaw with head coach Dennis Watkins of the Lady Jags gets coached first of all down by four at the break.
What are some things you talk with your team about?
We got to get back on defense.
We gave up some easy baskets off of our turnover, so we just got to take better care of the ball.
Other things you want to see from your team, though, this man's team is going to be tough.
What's the things you want to see going through the fourth quarter?
Just keep fighting.
Keep fighting every possession.
You know, we'll be looking forward to think that as Coach Watkins.
Thank you, Sam.
First, dance, dance for answers by our friends at Farm Bureau, Georgia.
That's courtesy of West Georgia Technical College.
What do you see where, guys, nobody's getting the ball into the basket.
Both teams shooting around 30%.
So shooting is not a question here.
It's not a thought as both teams is trying to do their best.
But the other thing is John's second chance points Mayes up by five.
Fast break, fast break points, Mayes up by six.
Mayes is doing everything they can right now to be in the possession, to be up by four here, start the second half.
Now, what about these two coaches?
What's going through their minds and what from that first 16 minutes is about as even down the middle as we've seen What's going on?
Yeah, Coach from She's been here before.
She wants to teach this team how to win.
And it takes someone like to put this program in a position to win it.
Coach Watkins, he knows his girls.
They have to fight this contest.
They have to fight all 16 minutes of the second half to come out with a championship.
There they are.
Shantay Fost on the left was the coach at Columbia for their three titles, ten, 12 and 1013.
Sorry, 2010, 2012, 2013 Wins Dennis Watkins Titles 2000 for 2008 for Stevenson last May's Championship 2003 for both schools have banners when it comes to ladies basketball.
Let's see if Mayes gets their second.
If Stevenson gets their third by the time these 16 minutes are up.
Hayes and White, the lady raiders going from right to left here, second half Stephens range and address blacks jumper off the rim no good bad it out by Terry on a cape scrambled for an save and hands in the lane again bucket Harlem line in 17 give chance to talk about deflections but Mays picks up another one There are 18 now and Stephens is at 16 so deflections defense that's going to be your foundation and to win this to win this game WHISTLE there on Kenya Sims this is her third.
Keep an eye on that 28 seconds going in third quarter as Freeman was trying to go past Mays with the six point lead at 2923 handed off to Miracle Dre, Davion Wingate long jumper off the rim no inside Collin Wyatt With the rebound back comes Mays Sims looking to drive has deflected and into the hands of Geno Smith for two points on the first 5 minutes of the second half is very important.
Mays came out with the same energy, the same mindset and same focus.
Again, there's that back tip.
He talks about both ways, both sides.
Stephenson coming out, being able to finish out with two bucket by Terry on a case Dennis Watkins calls a throw but doesn't want his team to get the rally.
They've got to grab it here Johnny right here start and here's the back tip and once the ball is loose, back tip the other way and just you know, this is one of those helter skelter plays, John, that you see here, especially in girls basketball, because they're still trying to get their foundation coming out here with not even a minute to go here in the third quarter, John, These teams have to settle down and start playing with some rhythm.
I was going to ask, was this a timeout, Dennis Watkins, about keeping everything under control?
Oh, yes.
Oh, yes.
You know, he saw this this array of basketball and it wasn't about fundamentals.
It was just going out there with the hair on fire, just playing without a mindset.
You have to have a strong mindset and a strong will to be able to win a championship game.
He knew he needed to call it Time Out to get his team on to control third quarter numbers quickly.
Stephenson One or two from the floor means two of their first three.
And so Stephenson is going to press a little bit for the four.
But that's the danger now they'll reset with it past half court.
Can you send all the action around the perimeter?
Stephenson Trying to tackle them as best they can.
Street guarded by miracle Dre inside looking for Harlon Wyatt got a little stay with me like with me as did Johnny.
They weren't trying to get the early score.
They were taking their time, running some motion, moving the ball, trying to establish some type of rhythm offensively.
Simms Street, Big Teardrop.
Look there.
Another follow up nugget on the follow tag comes out with it.
They've got numbers.
Does she see the trailer?
Yes, she does.
Easy two for them in one game.
Yeah.
That's what Coach Watkins likes to see his team do.
A great job defensively.
Donovan being on the attack moving the offense for easy two Stephenson comes off pressing Beamon knocked out that knocked it around but he's out of bounds He's going back Stevenson's way There's another look at Wingate work go at his defense wins championships and when you in transition zone you have to attack and that's me and get doing a great job being up front and finishing for the layup jumper from the corner in.
You're feeling it now is Stephenson Miracle Dre with the three in the margins down the one boy John it's about rhythm and Stephenson did a great job establishing their rhythm on defense and now it's showing offensively what been hit in the first three of the game street the attempted pass ball picked and the stop play Stephenson on a seven over We talked about Wingate she had 29 against Lithia Springs 28 against Brunswick 16 against Sequoyah 29 against Forest Park Talked about how athletic she is now on the Inside by Chloe Culpeper.
Wingate has won the state in the long jump in the hundred meters.
So that's the kind of athlete that Dennis Watkins has.
Debbie On Monday, her father was a heck of a basketball player at Georgetown.
I enjoyed watching him play back in that 1980, 86 era with coach John Thompson.
So she's got good basketball and good athletic genes and she's doing a great job here tonight, John offers from Winston-Salem State.
Charleston.
Southern Appalachian State, Alabama State.
Three players are up and good on the other end by Kendall Park.
It's back to 332 and a half gone third quarter double team.
She got past it.
Culpeper tried to go up for the shot is fouled on the way looks like it's going to be on Kenya Sims that'll be her fourth is the penetration but you see the guard drop you got to drop in front of the offense there.
Good job with pressure on the basketball within been a great defensive play John is shooting drop in front of the offensive guard drop is important with his half court a full court free throw missed now here's Stephenson join with us to make a miss here by Sims They're going to set their press and they're going to force Culpepper to make this shot has to be one of two free throws have been big for Stephenson here in the playoffs 11 and 13 against Sequoyah 11 to 12 and he's full of Spark come up big down the stretch the shot off the glass another on the inside they take another quick foul on Culpepper and they're going to call Cade instead on the inside and that's Terry on a cave's third foul Many different players here three four and that's a good job of the battle download.
That's just being aggressive.
You can't teach that.
That's internal, hard and both teams do happen.
Smith missed the first tape will sit around Sanders comes in Saunders at six four replaces cave at 510 so six more inches to the inside Second three things to so the lead is three at 3431 coming up on 3 minutes gone here third quarter in double teamed again another foul on as this was going to be unlocked part of the be her second 13 foul for Mayes and Gray thought about the three it was the same spot for the last time tried the jumper there missed it wasn't saved in time by Saunders so to go back to Mayes coach Watkins is trying to establish defense as his rhythm and they're going to do it in a full court fashion.
John Here's a one, two, two, one, two, one, one.
PRESS Hold on a second.
Russell calling over to the table.
Looks like we're going to get a reset.
So Mason went down it again.
This might be a benefit.
STEPHENSON With their press clock adjustment, the fourth 55 was a benefit for Stephenson.
Damian coming out with it, having to dribble before players, trying to pass it to someone, anyone.
This is out of control.
What happens?
It's like they're calling double dribble and it's going to go back to Mayes.
One, two, three, four, five, six, six different players touching the basketball.
Two more in go there.
So it looks like nine of the ten players had some impact on the basketball in that last possession.
And here's what Stephenson did to get here at time out on the floor is the subregions six big three teams with the same region playing for the championship.
Stephenson finished up 13 and 227 and five.
Overall.
Southwest to Campbell is actually the top in the subregion.
They also includes Miller Grove, Dunwoody, Druid Hills and Elk and Clarkston.
But since they didn't get that one seed coming through, they had to do everything on the road.
And a lot of times, John, that's when you can show how tough you're on the road.
You go back to Michael George era.
You never saw his posters when he was in white.
He's always in red because he was a road warrior.
And to win championship shifts, you have to be able to win on the road.
Picking up the basketball, a dangerous proposition for the Stephenson Press.
But they do break in five blocked by Corey Culpepper.
Now Lockhart is two Kendall Park and three said to find your friend stream looking inside high pass it has picked up Lockhart defending comes down with the basketball in the sky right away by Harlan Wyatt active man lot of jousting going a lot of active hands and a lot of active hands.
Now it's starting to get tight.
3 minutes and change left here in the third.
Both teams are really wanting that championship game shot from the bottom.
The glass comes down with the rebound, thought about backing it out.
Shot doesn't fall in the second chance.
Here's what's got the lead back to five for the lady Raiders on the board.
There's a lot of trees down low being strong with the ball but at the same time good tip there by mace and number 25 Harlan Wyatt as Wyatt with the two there we Culpeper had it lost it Wyatt got it back for the two and with that we will take a break.
346 for the third Mayes lead is back up to five over Stephenson for the for the five girls championship four make it here on GPB somewhere somebody trying this moment getting here took three years of sleepless nights and postponed vacations Your dad said play it safe.
Your husband kept the faith.
But franchising is why you partnered with Regions in the first place.
We share your vision for moving forward and at moments like this, that makes all the difference.
Is your business at a turning point?
Regions Welcome back.
Macon Policymaking Center Flex 346 for the third for the Girls five Championship Lady Raiders Maize up five.
There's a lot of high fiving going on there for the Brunswick fans are getting ready for the five day boys championship Brunswick canal team Pirates and Bucks is waiting for our Mark Harmon to give me his best pirate impression in the pregame show and a half time that he hasn't quite done it yet.
I'm still waiting for it to happen.
Stephenson Three of five field goals this quarter, but they are four of their last 15 from the floor.
Yeah, Stevenson's not seen the ball well done but Mays they are being aggressive on the offensive end they're plus eight when it comes to second chance points they're being out here out hustling Stevenson Johnson the offensive glass and you know that's actually something good that's positive if you're Mays when you can win that battle and fast breaks there's still plus six been in with the first free throw one eight points to two fast break buckets second free throw good.
Now the margins down to three again.
And here comes the Stevenson press.
Sidney Sexton in for the lady Jags Michael Gray guarding street record that would happen double team in the corner Merkel Gray comes out with it and she can get the long pass She's got numbers game and just Sexton for two every time great play started with the defense going to determine D corner long outlet fantastic finish good transition there for Stevenson first basket for Sidney Sexton there's the press again I'm going to call Beaman It's her first foul here's how many times does the ball hit the floor Get the steal out of the trap advancing it deep great attack mode and that's one of those that's one of those John that you know momentum now you don't it's only a one point game but on the defense to you Stevenson so many people think the deflection and the steal starts with your hands John It starts with your feet.
You have to be in the right position and anticipate the next play as your fast break points.
Look, Mayes on a plus six right you ready to to the clock issues we go from 310 Stevenson with hands in the passing lanes one more time win game looking loopy water works the miracle plays with the lead textbook two on one basketball we can get good a great time trying to get this committed.
She was able to pass it off St Miss got follow Miss set.
She'll go to the line Stevenson on a six run third.
Here's how Stevenson took the lead Started with deep Miss John again.
Here's the rhythm his men get coming down the court.
Once the defense committed, was able to make the nice pass off there It's a so that's great job all states have made a difference in the for Stevenson three four make good by Holland Ryan 250 for the third back and forth ball game.
Hayes has had leads in four and six.
Stevenson has come back to have their turn and checking back second free throws good and they're tied at 37/3 tie the game and Mays will match Stevenson as president one of their own.
Saxton having problems Beam and had to chase a turnover.
Mayes has numbers three on one and they get the two because of a very good job.
They get the chance.
They got the rotation, they got the steal, they got the outlet and they've got the pass.
There's a rotation.
That's what we've been talking about.
John Bolton in possession with Stevenson 226 for the third Mayes with a two point lead.
See John, the trap was the key and now has a deep outlet, especially when you get a steal and you want momentum, get a deep outlet and get a good finish street.
Doing a good job, folks on win because those free throws are quite special.
Going down the stretch and looking to inbound as he does Mayes looking to collapse the press as soon as it crosses halfcourt, Sexton snatches it away and the big circus shot with two and we're tied again the trap but then no rotation.
The trap was great, John The pressure was good on the ball, but you have to rotate your defense.
The weak side has to be there.
There's a solid step.
That's not fine.
Bassey She's a little bit too late getting up outside the paint.
It's a strong finish inside contributions of outside fouls called on Geno Smith for third, tied at 39 and up on 2 minutes left third quarter of game and bodies up and call a whistle there will be her second 15 found for Stevenson to send Kendall pack to the line Santé France calls pack her defensive specialist four points a game on average play And John do realize you know this man's team is young they've got to see this compare to the team season at Stevenson.
This is a young team so they're playing very highly impressed with the energy and passion drive and drive to win to win the championship.
Two free throws made.
Saxton thought about the three great passes inside.
They missed the bunny.
The second shot is up, and in that time they were manning.
So she gets in the scorebook the five eight junior Stevenson with a two point lead at 40 to 40.
Coming up on 100 seconds for the third dangerous pass.
Not a lot of mph on it.
That's how Stevenson got the two point lead.
New sacks rotation, no guard drop, but fighting on the glass.
John heart and hustle second foul on Manning that time looks like they're going to call beam and again that would be her third but Kayla Holmes will check back in for beam and will sit with 137 to go here in the third and Marlon Wyatt in the free throw line.
Stevenson has 17 fouls, Mays with five and Simon averaging 16 points a game and nine boards.
He's going to win the Sun Cross mainstays and those are back tap again.
But it went to Saxton Big Timber trying to get that shot offense up for her second opportunity and Dennis Watkins calls another 30.
Yeah when you got a presence as he does Kennedy inside John it's hard to really tie the attacker because all she's going to do is use her verticality to pass to block this shot.
So that's a great job with Coach putting her in the game because she is a defensive presence in the paint.
Patty Rushing six five.
Marlon Wyatt six two, Geno Smith six foot three players on Shantay Frosh lost is six foot tall, and we've seen what they've been able to do on the defensive end to keep Stevenson from driving, to get the buckets that they knew exactly.
But Stevenson is doing a good job, John, of they're implementing the pressure with their defense, with their extend the press.
So they're scoring not in the halfcourt zone, but they're scoring off of turnovers in transition plays.
They're using their their quickness versus the size.
Now a maze miracle Gray looking to inbound give and go and she'll work it all the way back out high for a double team in the corner.
Another Looper pass.
Saxton picked it up and they call over back on I think the Fisher may have missed it back call because it was tipped by the main squad so I don't think there was a back to it but back court.
But at the same time, once the play goes in motion, the play goes on.
17th turnover for Stevenson.
We are at 74 seconds for the third quarter major inbound to the back court start started up drains street and a foul in the paint to send it the other way foul on Kennedy Rushing she was trying to establish possession offensively it'll be her fans.
Well John before the ball was so far away from her she didn't have to close Got that early in the game.
Sometimes it's good to stand there, let the ball be reversed.
And on the reversal basket, you pop stuff and you're trying to initiate.
But initially down the court on the officials, they have to call back that it's not a play that actually pops up offense for the reach after she turned it over.
There's some good jousting, some good individual matchups going on defensively on both sides of the ball.
Well, when you've seen the team before time, you kind of know it's over.
You have some type of rapport with one another, doesn't expect.
But at the same time there's a challenge with both squads.
Both squads want this very badly.
Second foul for Callahan spurs a free throw rimmed out no good and a great presence of mind by Kamiya St tried to send it off Terry on a K but it hit her last Yeah the streak Jasmine actor trying to make a good play and she did a good job.
Had a great mindset but Stevenson now has the ball may still plus five when it comes to your second chance points and here's more hands in passing lanes and another interception coming the other way Merkle Gray thought about it and so kick it to Kayla Holmes.
Savion Wingate A lot of empty space in the paint and Russian picks up a second one quick we get so in a sign of weakness.
But more important, John, she's showing a sign of toughness.
She's a tough young girl.
She gets deep inside that paint and one and is making her presence felt very strong.
Wingate Now with eight, Stevenson is on a 12 four run.
Make it 13.
Coming up on 30 seconds to go third quarter, Stevenson had to fight their way back from an early deficit.
They're up 4440 offensive foul looks like they're calling it on Parker she tried to clear out to go on her way by and that's Moore yeah that's Ford's on and now with four fouls and under 36 to go in the third maybe a substitution now and so she can play through the fourth trying to get Sierra loving in the next dead ball Culpeper in the corner Wingate behind the back and up and in she is dissecting that defense Very well done very, very well Wingate with 11 coming to the end of the third quarter, a lot of bodies going after the Miss Stevenson will come out with it.
Now, also in the third 8 minutes with a six point lead, Dennis Watkins has had to pull a couple of throws to try to talk to his team.
But after three quarters, Stevenson leading Mayes in a battle of the Cab County versus the city of Atlanta for the five girls title fourth quarter.
Coming up here, we'll have your answer for who gets the trophy on the great GPB when we come back.

A campaign to keep every class graduate in tact.
The answer is out there.
How will you stop the drop?
Is it gonna be done?

What are you calling me?
A liar?
This thing is practically brown.
That's it.
You're not going to come to my house and tell me how to cook a hamburger?
You wouldn't do it.
They're crazy, so don't do it here, Sportsmanship.
It's up to you.
It can center flex.
Getting ready for the final 8 minutes.
Sorry for the wait since it's Benson.
So wait.
That's the team photo and Stevenson finishes and they are 8 minutes away with a six point lead, grabbing the five a title away from the lady Raiders with Mays with tremendous effort by Stevenson tonight down early Let's talk a little television The wait is over Mr. Selfridge is back with an all new season watch Jeremy Piven stars Mr. Selfridge London's retail continuing during March 29th at nine.
Phone call The midwife.
Can't wait until then, Miss.
Don't miss our replayed marathon of season two beginning March 22nd to the great GP to Stevenson on a 15 four run the last 346.
You do not need to be a major anesthesiology for this one.
This is going to be an exciting final 8 minutes.
Yeah, John, just a simple game.
And you're right, you really don't have to understand the scientific understanding of this game, but at the same time it can be a great outcome for the champion hashtag work for the win start of the fourth street beam and guarding her this time way up high King, The Sims by the Lucy by Wind Game Geno Smith Slashes Corner Very Quick One Touch passing into the pain off the front of the rim No Kendall Pat tries to keep it alive and does time to charge for the follow as Harland Wyatt looks like it's going to be Chloe Culpepper.
That will be three face time on the boards.
A little press glass, the aggressive and assertive and will of themselves.
John with the possession down by six they want to get this w very very bad for the AP system.
No call it on tearing on a cave instead.
That's.
Hey, that's definitely something to pay attention to because people are up and going so cave will exit.
Nyla Manning comes in five, eight, four, five, ten.
Manning has 2000 so second free throw off and then if you kind of see it when she got rid of it, Damien comes out with it for Stevenson.
Morgan put an interception but out of control as Harland Wyatt trying to drive in the bucket but they're going to call a foul on Stevenson with John deflections Guess what we are 3229 Amazing guys.
Deflections are a key.
There's a deflection.
That's number 31 and keep it as mad at you if you get 40.
John, that means you've had a great defense of that great defensive night.
So both teams are definitely Oh, Mark, reach that Davion Wingate his second no good as the free throw numbers Mason Only 60% so far.
Stevenson Strong throughout the playoffs, 11 of 15 second free throws Good back to a four point margin for Gray has it up high give the win game playing catch beam and also out here on the perimeter and as Watkins giving instructions to Wingate guarded by Kendall pack double team all the way it's coming in another high arching pass intercepted on steps on that you could see the third step by street before he put the ball up.
Man, she was salivating for that layup there, John.
Great trap, great rotation.
Just not able to finish and capitalize on this.
But man, what a good, beautiful aspect of the game.
Great basketball for Mase.
For Stevenson, that third step was a bit of a thumper without taking a dribble shot.
No good cold pepper hits it, but the basket goes in.
Nyla Manning Yeah, she's at the right place at the right time for the follow zone, six point margin, 90 seconds in fourth quarter.
Those five championship in the balance last Stevenson Title 2008 last May's title 2003 at Alexandra Memorial Coliseum drive off the rim No last touch by Maisie's.
It went out of bounds as he may says on the stand there.
6 minutes left in the game, John.
That is a lot of basketball to play.
You don't have to rush, Take your time, use a little bit more time at the box and you get better shots.
Foul called on Gina Smith.
That's her fourth.
We're going to come down to the other end for free throws.
Shantay flounced obviously not pleased with the very cold pepper to the line averages about ten and seven points off turnovers Stevenson at plus five Georgia state interested at state looking for bally states looking for Johnston says she's a solid post player runs the floor like anybody else.
With 2 minutes gone fourth quarter Sims and St and and Wyatt tries to get some action going inside the paint fouls on Culpepper That'll be her third.
And John if Mase would just take their time and get the ball inside and be patient, good things will happen, but they're trying to rush the offense too quickly and they were fortunate here for the foul, but they still need to be more patient on the offensive end.
But it's free throw good line Mayes And the double bonus now some free for a good nine fouls on Mayes He's going to be a lot of time here in the fourth quarter spin on the free throw line bounce pass they probably should've put it up initially instead of taking that last dribble knocked out of bounds.
It'll stay with Stevenson for a minute.
Shantay Fast is going to take the full time out on the 549 to go regulation.
It's been a long day here.
If you look at what has happened so far on this Friday day two of make and man is here at the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center, Flex Wesleyan adds another title to the pedigree.
45 to 31 over Holy Innocent, Holy Innocents gets their first loss of the year in the last game of the year and a great match up and boys double leg.
The title goes to Donaldsonville, Seminole County, 7671 over Crawford County.
They were chasing after their first title in over 30 years.
You have this contest here right now, 549 left in regulation Stevenson up four after this.
It's Pirates, Buccaneers, Brunswick and Altoona.
And someone is going to walk away with their first ever state title in the eight boys title game once this one is complete for John.
This is a special, special, special decongestants, especially for the HSA, because this entity has done a great job of supporting Georgia high school sports, whether it's football, basketball, baseball, all sports.
And their support here for this weekend, especially in these kids are doing a great job with putting it all on the line, playing with a lot of heart, a lot of passion names from the line four of six already, fourth quarter by Luke Pass looking for Culpeper knocked away and they're going to call Beeman for the foul on the reach and that will be for its amazing go to the line is Chloe Culpeper talking to miracle Dre real quick Yeah that's up we're going for the jowls and that's a tough pass John That's a tough pass over the top, especially when you get on your own goal.
They're sweet, real good athletes.
There's your bench points.
Look at that.
Plus 12.
Stevenson With all the bench points in the game that's kept him in the game.
Right now they have a three point lead now to it 4846 with 546 and he's comes up pressing no surprise Sexton calls a timeout a smart call by Sidney Saxton and Dennis Watkins now has two timeouts left Shantay Frost no stranger to playing in our last game of the year and having a team play in the last game of the year.
No stranger to Stevenson, considering her time at Columbia, Dr. Phil McCrory was one of them.
On the men's side, she was winning them.
On the ladies side, there's Zuri Frost and ended up going to Tennessee Tech.
She won a title with her daughter Mac in 2010, won in 2012, won in 2013.
Three titles at Columbia for Shawn Frost beating Washington County in that particular championship game.
And if she wins tonight, she can become the 10th state coach in state history to win girls titles at two different schools.
Well, John, she's a special coach.
First of all, she coaches with the hearts of coaches with passion.
But more importantly, she embraces those kids.
She loves them like she they were their own.
And I've seen her do it on and off the court.
So when you've got a coach that loves and coaches you with the same emotion and same passion, that goes a long, long way, especially when you're trying to build a championship program.
Shante For us, oldest daughter was a part of Coach Watkins first championship team at Stevenson in 2004.
They each other for the better part of a decade, so there are no secrets you don't get from those things.
Just the key has got to get out.
Parking pass Intercepted by Mayes Stevenson saved by Wingate Wingate going down the street holds it back to the two as he doesn't put on the clinic today John she's doing a fantastic job finishing in transition, scoring baskets, doing it all with leadership as well.
Wingate with 13 leads back to 450 4660 reaching in.
Looks like they're going to call a foul instead of a position issue.
Here's how many on Wingate went from 11 points to 13 See rotation John out of the trap and she's doing a good job attacking RIM.
Look at it Keep eye on heads up to the rim.
Nice finish Nice touch there by Wingate.
Here's another look coming right at you in the living room.
She was looking behind her.
You could see that she was kind of taking a peach.
You where she wasn't had great court presence.
Her first free throws.
Good by Harlan Wyatt fouls on Saxton that's her third.
Here comes the trap This will put pressure on the steals Mayes at plus six but that goes to your information which you're keeping track of all night about Haynes and deflection hands in the face and he has a full court press and now John see the trap Great job getting it out of the press.
Now here's their attack move by Stephenson and see what can happen.
Sexton had Culpeper Wingate thought about the feed Saxton will drive on Wyatt and the hand inside.
Culpeper missed the money saved by streak coming back the other way.
And that's out of control once again, thinking perhaps a little too quickly.
The ball's out of bounds as two point game, so she wants be.
You want to be aggressive, but at the same time, John, you have to be in control.
Talking about St Coach Cross said she plays fearlessly and puts up a lot of shots.
But when you're the leading scorer, that's what happens back here.
The win over Miracle Grace, she didn't touch it, so the first person to touch it ended up being Kendall Park, and that's the 24th turnover to make.
John just, you know, deflections and steals, defense, everything that's kind of the foundation of this game tonight, John.
Defense Saxton getting the inbounds from Wingate.
Oh, Erica Gray Looks like they're going to call Kenya Sims.
And if it's on Sims, that's her fifth.
So Sims fouls out with six points with 443 to go.
Great UVA sportsmanship They're shaken Coach Watch and Sam Yeah that was awesome to see.
Oh, that was beautiful.
John And that shows you the respect that each coach has of their program.
But you think about Sam's done.
She's playing so aggressive, but she's not playing smart.
You can't defend with your hands.
First you got to see with your feet.
And she's late to all the rotations.
So as a result of her being late, not anticipating the play, John, she's picking up the field, two fouls.
As a result, she's found out great first year with the program.
So team assumes she's coach plus true point guard looking to make others successful.
She's been there to provide leadership, make all the right passes decisions and play strong defense this entire season that she fouls out at the 443 mark breaks free throws good Stevenson makes them both and it's 5248 so what not having conditions was due to Mays for the final half of the fourth quarter here drive baseline deflected once more here comes Wingate Wingate has numbers to take it herself missed the layup and coming back the other way was going to be Harlan Wyatt She got fouled and fouls on Miracle Gray on the reach back and it's her second foul.
Let's see what happened here.
See, she was looking over her shoulder, thinking the back to thinking about the back to him John Castle to miss that layup this go ahead and go forward.
Keep the ball in front of you when you advance but then focus on the rim for the easy following.
Wyatt making yet another trip to the free throw line nine of 13 in the game for those starting center and a 14 you got to make free throws We talked about it last broadcast John Free throws in turnovers, free throws and turnovers and you know that can become a theme for the entire weekend.
You make your free throws, you cut down your turnovers, you come down this second free throws.
Good.
One of two for 15 and count in regulation Stephenson up to it 50 to 50 balance on sacks then that'll be her fourth and that'll mean another change for coach Watkins looks like Terry on a cable kind asking Saxton what she saw in that particular corner of the free throw line.
Kendall Park was 3.13 now from Mays in the fourth quarter.
Well, in the fourth quarter, that's an championships of one.
And they've done a good job of protecting the basketball, playing with a lot of intensity and aggressiveness.
John But at the same time, most importantly, hitting those free throws.
Saxton stays.
Nyla Manning leaves.
Saxton in with her four fouls and we're tied at 52 for ten to go regulation Culpeper looking for help finds Terry on a case Give it derby game in game has Merkel gray up with her she'll take it K jumper got the win shot off the back of the rim no good whistle and a three point lead and here's the last basket by Stephenson Here's Wingate again doing a great job the help nice pass out nice touch there by cave on the short corner foul by Merkel Gray her third first free throw up in my street Now it's a two point game up 5452 346.
In regulation second free throw good back to a one point game Saxton bringing it up with her fourth foul.
She's got to be careful And John this is what needs did the one person that's been in the press is swinging so they had a full denial on her got the ball to the weakest person handling the ball got the here for four out of bounds.
That was great teaching and coaching on behalf of Coach Frost.
So Saxton will sit Beamon back in remember the last to last time that these two teams played two point game for the region Title 5351 Ultimate possession since it back the other way February 15th Region six Title 5351.
So close games at these two not a shot games laid off the immediate press pass the ball is in back they're going to force the beam came in drive thought about it back to being back in miracle Gray gray looking to drive bounce pass Terry on occasion to do the great job of anticipate them that has come and gone to the kitchen and dribble she caught it it's finished Great job ten from Kay Lee back to three 5653 3 minutes to go regulation high asking pass that's a 5050 ball shot Frost called a time out as the ball was looking like it was going out of bounds.
Smart call by Sean Flowers she's taking the fall Yeah sometimes as a coach you got to control the tempo of the game if you're timeouts because possession of the ball is very important, especially on the 3 minutes to go in the game.
John you talk about the program and here at Georgia Public Broadcasting, one of the initiatives here at Georgia Public Broadcasting is our Stop the Drop initiative.
GPB Stop the Drop initiative dedicated to lowering Georgia's high school dropout rate by working with organizations, schools, educators and communities across the state to help bring students the resources they need.

Stop the drop.

One field goal percentage is on the increase for Stephenson.
I mean, he's hanging around 30% at 13 of 43 for the game still plus four in second chance still plus four in fastbreak baskets.
But Stephenson has all the bench points in this game, John.
They get the bench points they get now the points off turnovers and they're beaten them in paint plus 12.
So now Stephenson doing a great job of protecting the basketball, playing an inside out here in the second half each team with one timeout remaining.
So they're going to have to be judicious in using them in the three point game and we're only 3 minutes to go street and Lockhart now part of the back court for Mayes and Dale Park the other guard, Sanjay Cross, goes with Gina Smith and Harland Wyatt down there.
Why against the basketball guarded by K K has four fouls for Stephenson into the corner.
Lockhart missed everything picked up by north of Gray to try to come down the floor with he does coming up to 15 to go regulation you got to engage the feeling in the corner Packer thought about it he wants to drive on line bounce pass A to the second, third and fourth down this patient in the corner.
Johnson broke the trap and did a great job of kissing it off down low.
Today.
That was great.
Offensive patience but under control there by on the team has half for 12 in the fourth quarter.
Shot in snow cave with the rebound hands all in their 101 seconds to go jump ball and give it possession they're calling ultimate possession this time and it's going to stay in here's Terry on a case is Culpepper there is the trap see there's no rotation No rotation.
Great trap, but there's no rotation.
The defense did a poor job of getting the rotation and cave able to finish down on Dennis Watkins, one of the foul calling stuff.
That's what was going on that they call alternate possession.
Instead, they get another shot Sierra loving up high long attempt at a three no good by chemistry Mase over six from the floor in the quarter and they've missed their last eight from the floor Yeah of course Watkins made a great strategic move there John instead of playing the man to man, and that was the last two possessions, he came out in his own force, the perimeter play to make plays for Mason, just getting it into Culpeper, beating the £5 cave.
Ray Wingate driving, tries to scoop it didn't go back comes Mason picked off said This is what I call a timeout You got to coach and teach these kids We've got a five point lead plus Watkins needs to call a timeout done instead Campbell Pat gets the whistle and that should be her fifth fifth foul on Kendall Park.
She will leave seven points, fouling out with a minute 12 finish.
Sims found out about three and a half minutes ago.
Kendall Park fouling out now.
So Mase Bench will be testing the final 72 seconds.
Beaman first free throw from battle we have John.
If I'm Coach Watkins, I'm calling my time out because now you've got to coach this team and show them and teach them how to win this game, even if it's your last one, even if it's your last quote, you spend the kind of time of seven with 72 seconds.
See what Mase does here.
Steph, The street called four steps in the drive right?
Stephenson scored the last six points, 61 seconds to go help on the inbounds.
Cade has it.
And they found those fouls for Sierra Loving since Stephenson knew on what journey If you don't call the timeout then he's call your team over You still got to coach them you let them trying to willed themselves and teach themselves.
They've got to do a better job, I believe, to coach them from the sidelines.
You can't keep a timeout.
You do have one timeout left when you haven't have more communication so they'll understand the game plan better down the stretch.
Stephenson 60.60 seconds to go regulation came was free for the last seven me the ten second free throw Mayes has some work to do in the final minute and after this game will not miss the trophy presentation.
There will be bucks and pirates chasing after their first title The boys five eight championship game.
Alex O'Neal knocking off little robins to get here.
Brunswick another great effort for them as well.
Another foul by Mayes and will go to the other end foul on St her second as he John I'm thinking more like a coach I'm a worst case scenario oh yeah you know you always got to think anything can happen so it usually does exactly so you really got to teach this girl every aspect of the game.
So you're up by ten points now with 45 seconds to go, anything can happen.
Don't say.
All you got to understand is said to defense.
You can't really celebrate.
The fans celebrate with you as a team.
You got to stay focused until the clock hits zero one of two by Culpeper.
The lead is ten coming on 40 seconds missed Mays again Beamon with the rebound and we'll go back to the other end and this week Dennis Watkins closed the gym, locked the door.
He was nervous himself because he didn't know how his team was going to react.
They knew they were hungry and he didn't handle the press well.
In the two other games against Mays this year, which I want a team this year, the way that Mays has beaten Stephenson.
This year you studied film and you find and you got sick that thing down to your team.
What can I do to get better?
You see the good you focus on the good, you take out the bad things are happening in this country, he told his players.
Stay focused, look up on the wall at the gym, at the high school and told them, If you want a banner, stay focused and work hard.
They were down early.
They work hard.
And the goal.
Mark Harmon Mr. Drysdale shot there.
The bank bank was open 14.3 and the margin is now eight fouls on Harlan Wyatt.
Her third, We go back to the line and as we close the margin, some fundamentals off the window and those are friends the think she called it.
Yeah once counting rolled over on the scoreboard the first free throw missed by miracle Dre second three point good margins nine 14.3 Got to go down and hit another three quick.
I was just looking around from time of expiring Stephenson the first title for the Jags since 2008.
You are 11 three run for the lady Jags in the last three plus minutes Naismith on field goal in the last ten.
Well Mesa has a young team but they'll be back but Stephenson the team's seniors senior leadership that seems a lot more hungry and go does Robinson a great job of making that transition to that sagging three two zone which kind of staggered maybe Mays there towards the end zone Dennis Watkins gets to celebrate he told his players, I can't want it as bad as you.
You have to want it more than I do.
And he gets the state title to go back to Stephenson Girls five eight championship Stephenson down early they beat Mays to cap county gets another champ the five girls trophy presentation we come back on the great GPB stay with us and bring us.
