Coming into the game at 28 and three.
Welcome to the action here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And for those of you also watching on GPB Dawg in our live streaming.
Thanks for being with us this evening.
This is game three of 11 championships that you're seeing today and tomorrow here with this GHC action in Atlanta and in Macon.
The game here tonight, the girls five, It's really hard to beat a region rival three times in a season and region two is one of the toughest re Dan and Stephenson going at it round three tonight the guys calling round three are front court Dave Garner and our crew chief Dick Williams.
Guys, I'll be with you in a second.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Indeed it all.
DeKalb County final here tonight.
And Dick, as John mentioned, two teams that have a little bit of history against each other in a very tough region.
A familiar entrance in the Final Four, Dan, a couple of years ago, Stevenson looking to break a three game losing skein in the semifinals.
Absolutely.
Now let's talk a little bit about the Redan Lady Raiders.
They come in here unranked, wanting a little bit of respect, especially after losing to Stevenson early on there.
And they're eager to look at Neah Evans, one of the players to watch for tonight.
Absolute inside outside threat for Redan Neah Evans.
She likes to get the ball to Alicia Andrews.
They make the team go starting five today for Redan again, as you saw the record there earlier on, Alisha Andrews, Kiara Paige, Jillian Moore, Leah Evans and Kelly Riles the senior, the starting five today for Redan.
Jake, let's talk a little bit about Stevenson.
They've been ranked number two in the state for most of the season.
They knocked off number one, Mill Creek in the semifinals and they are set ready to go.
Yesterday, they stayed with Mill Creek for a bit last night and then they just took it over at the end and it was our hero of the game there.
She she just took the thing into her hands.
And there she is, Joe.
Lisa Williams, 17 points there, four down the stretch against Mill Creek.
She had four straight baskets, two free throws and guaranteed Stevenson the win.
So her numbers there.
Indeed, she's been impressive all season long.
And there you go.
Look at the starting five Ishizuka Jones Kirsten Robinson shot shy and half skinny Taylor Turnbow and Allison Williams again the a senior right there rounding out the starting five for the Stevenson lady Jaguars should be a great contest now let's go courtside to Dr. David Rather or our announcer for tonight's starting introductions make the Raiders let's meet the starting lineup first for the Redan lady Raiders at guard now five six Junior number Double zero.
Jillian Moore at guard on five to sophomore Number five, Alicia Andrews at Guard of Phi Phi.
Freshman number 15.
You're a paid job.
Add forward a61 senior number 30.
Kelly Riles and that forward a six foot sophomore.
Number 32 Mia Evans Redan is coached by Rhonda malone.
Now the starting line up for the Stevenson Lady Jaguars at guard 058 Senior number three, Jessica Jones at guard, a 511 senior number 13, Cheyenne Kinney at guard, a58, Senior number 22.
Kirstin Robinson at forward, a63 senior number 23, Taylor Turnbow at guard, a59 senior number 44.
Lisa Williams Stevenson is coached by Dennis Watkins junior.
You just said for the five girls state championship, it's Redan and Stevenson.

Redan and Stephenson set to take the floor and courtside.
Joining us is John Nelson.
John?
Yeah, I told you I'd be here with you here in a second.
Both teams had to come back, kids to get here.
STEPHENSON Dennis Watkins said his team's really loose tonight, but they were down eight last night to Mill Creek before coming back to win REDAN It took them a little time to get used to the building.
According to head coach Rhonda malone, they were down 14 to Duluth last night, guys.
Both of them showed up here tonight.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Look forward to talking with you here throughout the night as we get set for the tip off of this five eight match up right here.
We'll take a look at the officials, Andy Kohut to Lisa Green Amy.
Tony, again, the officials working this GHC five eight girls state championship, a lot of big names, a lot of big players in this game here tonight and what you would expect in the largest classification in the state of Georgia in a championship game right off the bat, right, Dan, with the basketball firing up a shot off the mark rebound by Cheyenne Hap Kenny and back down the floor quickly as Rashica Jones.
Dick, you're talking about the speed of these guards for Stephenson.
That'll certainly be something to watch here tonight.
Well and Redan has got some speed, too.
The question is, is whether the Stephenson inside game led by Taylor Turnbow is stronger than rebounds.
That's what's happened in their two meetings earlier this season shot from the outside is off the mark right there by the lady Jaguars get the lob a big block right there by Neah Evans who already makes her presence felt right Yeah Evans is their inside player Good ball movement right here on the opening possession knocked away whistle and a foul inside shooting foul She comes foul going to be on Kelly riles her first to the six one senior they going to look at coach Rhonda malone ten seasons at Redan is the head coach has done a great job with the lady Raider program.
Crystal Owen was a great player in the SCC back in the day to Houston.
Robinson in the starting lineup tonight, knocking down the first free throw another one on the way and she's got it You got a little bit of experience there not only between the players but the coaching staff here tonight here now here's the Stephenson presser this is that this is the characteristic Stephenson project that's why they're the number two ranked team in the state.
And that's going to be a big key here tonight, no doubt as Howard Dean handles that pressure, because obviously with the first two meetings and it's always hard to beat a team three times, we talk about the 25 for one that 17 point wins respectively.
Four Dan knows they've got to change things up here a little bit tonight and really go right after.
There's another big block right there by Evans Neah Evans Hands in the face and that's what they teach you early, early on.
She is competing down low.
And I also think that this Alysha Andrews, the tiny, tiny reed and point guard, is going to be critical for them against that pressure off the inbound right there.
Shot would go for Shy and have Katie back the other way.
You saw coach Dennis Watkins while ago there.
The lady Jags head coach has done an excellent job as well and leading this team back to the state championship for the first time since 2004, although they've been to the state semis the last three years, again, their fifth straight trip essentially.
Yeah, they know the building that, yes, they need.
The landscape is nothing new to this Steve Jackson squad.
Nicole Brown, tough shot right there.
Good job defensively, though, by the lady Jaguars keeping their feet inside the Evans tosses it back out shot too strong and off the mark by Kelly Riles taken right back kept alive and then out of bounds on the offensive end for week four again excuse me all the points come from from Andrews and from the Evans there.
The double figure score is just the inside out attack for them.
Now they put some pressure on Southwest the cab of their own choosing.
Stephenson over on cross court got the numbers right Third rate moving inside giant half inning and a tip and almost a steal back where pressure once again nearly taken away by Stephenson for here in the early going retain of course their second title game in the last four years they were here in 2005 against Collins Hill no state championships but trying to change that here tonight to show that strange name by the referee in a couple of games between these two schools in their respective gyms.
And of course, those gyms were smaller and the noise was cacophonous.
There are two rivals being so close together in the Camp Downey, in the Stone Mountain area.
Right.
And you got to pitch a tent to get a seat to those games.
This is a lively arena, but it's not quite like the small high school gym taken away.
Yeah, both teams listing Stone Mountain addresses.
They're both teams out of the same region, of course.
Stephenson The region Champ Redan, of course, the number three seed, making it to the championship game.
That tells you the level of competition in region two that you've got that many teams you know box together so tightly in the Final Four.
In the final eight.
Absolutely.
Three point shot from way out there.
And is there a little Sanders There she is.
Three points for Andrews and the first points of the night for the lady Raiders.
I think she's the she's the X Factor here for Redan.
She's so small, but she's so quick.
And that's Turnbow trying to bowl and then Turnbow is an impressive six foot three and a senior is really the leader inside there for Stephens.
So this is a team that's really done everything all year long as you see 55 Delia Brunson of Redan into the lineup.
Hey, another six footer.
We've seen a lot of six footers here this week.
They've also seen a lot of great to Camp Candy basket.
Yes.
This will be the third state title of the day.
But think about it that way.
Southwest, the Cavs, of course, winning the four girls championship earlier this afternoon.
Columbia Boys winning the game before us right.
Time travel, the record right there, right back to Redan.
So far, the lady Raiders hanging right there.
Again, a one point game for 43 left in the opening period.
See Coach Dennis Watkins right there looking on from the bench, Stephenson averaging 62.2 points a game offensively although they've averaged more than that in the postseason 70 points holding teams to 32 points.
It's just been dominating postseason.
They have been dominated by the way of between games.
They are school superintendent of the Camp County Doctor Crawford Lewis ran up to me and said, Is this a great day to be from the Camp County?
And I didn't want to rain.
I did want to tell him it's raining outside.
Yeah, a lot of representation here this weekend, of course, Redan postseason numbers, they have averaged 61 points offensively given up 46 four as they beat Duluth of the semis last night.
That's another thing here, too, to see how fresh these teams are both playing last night, having a short turnaround here to the state championship really leaves you a little time to prepare.
But I guess if you're these two teams and you've already played each other a couple of times, you kind of know the roster.
I don't think these coaches have any new wrinkles to put into the game plan with these folks.
And the kids are neighbors.
They play play together year round against each other.
They know each other well.
The telling matchup here tonight, indeed, there's Jones pulling the trigger outside off the back of the iron no good Quickly back the other way.
Alisha Andrews behind the back lays it up before I get the shot to go over a whistle in a push that was just that was a slick little move.
She went behind her back and took a tickling right behind her back right here and knew she was going to get hit.
But went to the basket anyway.
And she was fouled by you.
She could.
JONES But that's aggressive for for a small player first team foul on the lady Jaguars she's listed at five two.
What do you think what do you think 10.8 points right there 4.2 assist and a timeout on the floor after the free throw for three Stephenson leads it will step aside with him be right back halfway through the first quarter.
We're back with more in a moment.

Thanks you for tuning in to GPB Stephenson Cheerleaders in the house here tonight.
Redan for Stevenson for early on here.
Halfway through this first period, Dave got Dick Williams with you John Nelson courtside with us along with the rest of the GPB broadcast team wall to wall action on championship weekend and we've got a good game here early in this five GHC state championship This is this is the old jinx game when you've got to play somebody three times in a season.
You know, I went to Georgetown and I remember when we were supposed to win the national championship and played Villanova the third time and the rest of that system.
We had a situation where obviously mentally Stevenson's got to know that, hey, we we beat this team handily the last couple time.
So if you're redan, you know, you've got to feel like the pressure is off here tonight.
What do you got to lose?
You go out there and play as hard as you can and see.
See how the chips fall.
Now there's Regan's game, but Neah Evans couldn't convert.
But it's Alisha Andrews pushing it and trying to get the ball in the hands of Evans.
That's their game.
That's that's what brought them back from that deficit the other night.
Three point shot from way outside.
Nearly went for Andrews, talking about her being listed at five foot two while ago.
It I'm not even sure why her I'd say she's five feet but I'm going with that if if she's 52i want to demand the measurement.
Here you go looking inside right there knocked away from Brunson big play defensively lady Jaguars back the other way right here the feed from skinny shot from outside is there she is a good shooter Williams with her first two of the night the five nine senior makes it six for that one taking away the good inside bucket right there by Evans Evans finally gets one to go That's again that's what Regan's got to have They've got to have Andrews pushing it and Evans converting it.
Combination of the two right there.
Andrews had the first four points of the game for the Lady Raiders until Evans recorded her name in the book right there.
So tied at 632, the experts came in first foul on Evans and that will put Hardaway and Williams at the line right here.
Williams a 511 sophomore and you see her numbers on the season knocks down the first both these teams play a lot of players and really the balance scoring I think especially for Redan when you look down their lineup Yeah they've got Nia Evans and Alisha Andrews have certainly carried the load.
But Jillian Moore, a lot of other players off the bench.
Here are Paige, a freshman in the starting lineup right there.
When you look down this roster, there's a lot of folks that have really contributed this year as well.
And that's true for Stevenson, too, because they're big inside player Taylor Turnbow, who's going to shoot at share, only averages ten points and ten rebounds.
They're very balanced in their scoring effort.
It's the number 24 in the lineup right there.
That's Rudy Denson, a55 senior for Stevenson.
Eight six advantage right here Lady Jaguars up by two back on the other end that shot off the mark of Fowler's there though Evans Turnball altered the first one but couldn't recover to get the second one back on the other end.
Jones With the drive off the rim no good rebound ball now rolling around pull up jumper just inside the arc off the mark there by Dixon Jones Unable to hit the follow up shot Rubio battling inside it went out of bounds but it will stay with Stevenson Yeah you want a JV if maybe they want a little bit tired from back to back nights I think high school kids are used to back to back nights but but their shooting seems a little bit off on both sides.
A lot of it's in the legs as we all and others to follow right there by Turnbow who has her first two of the night.
Sometimes you lose a little spring in those steps, there's no doubt.
But sure, see how it plays out as the game wears on.
Her shot from way outside three points off the mark by Andrews kept alive though, and retrieved by page.
Really nice defensive play by Turnbull turning that pass away.
And here comes Stevenson on the run, two on two on the other end.
That ball nearly knocked away into the hands of Williams and the foul was there with two more.
And I think that's the difference here.
Early on, Stevenson is getting some foot back shots in second and third opportunities under the goal turn ball and Evans will battle it There's no question and I suspect Turnbull might be the strongest forward.
So these players out and around the the minute 20 left here in the opening quarters searching for a00, Gillian Moore will check in for Redan, then a56 junior end of the lineup right here off the inbound.
Moore took a look at it there with a peak and traveling record right there on Melinda Wright.
Right awesome in the game a56 junior no pressure from her down and bring it in run their set offense saw coach Rhonda malone over there on the gridiron bench in the lady raiders again unranked with the seven losses but considering who they played throughout the year you could certainly understand why that is and certainly trying to gain some perspective this evening.
Well, it's a young team to watch.
That's the other issue with the shot off the mark by Kayla Atkins, who had to look at it, turn around, wouldn't go for Williams and then juggled right along the baseline there by Evans.
So Stephenson will maintain possession.
You know you and I remarked about this right before the game but were dance key players Andrews and Evans are only sophomores right And they really don't have any seniors that they count on for scoring and defense in something.
It's a very young team with a couple of nice players coming off the bench.
Absolutely.
Well, here are Paige listed as a starter.
Five foot five freshman has been talked about right here.
And Felicia Taylor, that's a senior and Kelly Riles, but as you mentioned, the big score is on the Steve Moore sophomore.
This is a very young team and I suspect they'll be back next year to look at Dixon, who reenters the lineup right there.
Six foot senior averaging four points a game, or the late Chuck Norris quite pretty white 511 senior Also end of the lineup for the lady Jaguars it's Stevenson right here up 12 eight under a minute here in this first period live on GPB from the arena at Gwinnett Sinner We had some great games of course the boys game wrapping up a little while ago was a nail biter right down to the line what a lot of fine basketball game but the athleticism the Columbia Colombian the size of that played out in the end as they beat Fayette County.
There's two Lisa Williams running that break and she likes that pull up jumper.
I notice that against Wall pretty sure pace herself down the court like that and likes that pull up jumper instead of trying to force it to the wrap Williams with four points here in this first quarter she joins Taylor Turnbow who also has for her teammate meanwhile Nia Evans and Alisha Andrews with all eight of her dance points.
And that is it for the first period score after one, it's Davidson 14, Redan eight.
Let's take a time out.
Be right back with number two from the arena, Gwen, etc.
When we return.

We were then cheerleaders in the house right here after a wanted Stephenson 14 four.
Dan Hayes has just a5a state girls basketball championship continues live right here on GPB Dick a pretty solid first quarter for both teams and as we open up period number two Redan will have the basketball and a chance to cut into that lead a little bit.
I think the shooting has been quite tentative.
I expect it to improve, but I think we Dan's got to get some offense going.
They seem not to be able to to pierce the size of that Stephenson back line and they seem hesitant to run anything that that that cuts through there Turnbow is quite a presence in the middle three point shot on the way from Moore is off the mark and quickly take it down Alisha Andrews with four points in that in that first quarter along with Neah Evans accounting for Riordan's eight points right there, those are the two scorers.
So at least those two are in the game a little bit and that's certainly a good sign for Coach Branham Malone today.
Williams with a shot knocks it down First field goal of the evening for Williams He's got three after that free throw there in the first period so six eight Stevenson doubles up the leader ABC still early as we get the fans for the action we noted how Young's the damage Stephenson the senior late idea Williams is an exception she's a sophomore but they're totally loaded with seniors and there's not a not a lot of not a substitute for experience and of course you got a lot of younger talent, freshman sophomores.
But when you've got that many seniors in your lineup like Stephenson does, there's no gravity.
There aren't a lot of juniors.
The freshman sophomores are on the Stevenson side.
They're seniors and they have a lot of tournament experience.
Obviously, as we said, they've been here.
STEVENS The seniors have been here every year since they were ninth graders.
They were at kids at the line.
You saw her numbers missing on the first second one on the way there.
You look at Brunson back in the lineup, four of them, the six foot post player back is a56 junior.
Second one on the way knocks it home one of two on that trip for Aiken 17 eight.
The advantage for Stephenson and Alysha Andrews easily breaks that Stephenson pressure that's where she's so good so quick three point shot on the way in and out right there for Kiara Paige I think was halfway down the cylinder pop back out pick out right here, three point shot and that one is there for first field goal of the night for Atkins.
She's got four in its 20 day free dance.
Just got to get some offense going.
Well, you know, Stephenson as a team Dick that is known to pressure you out of the building but they really haven't done a whole lot of that right here.
They might have retained a little bit surprised that they're able to set up a halfcourt offense.
Yeah, they've used it.
And I think Redan is used to running to.
Right.
Maybe that's the game plan here tonight.
Here's a block right there inside by Taylor Turnbow Jimbo's dominant in this first quarter and early into the second was turn around and a foul right there on Brunson We saw Nia Evans a redan with a couple of early blocks and inside the first couple of minutes of that first quarter I've been down since then, though, it seems like Davis is pretty much done.
Whatever they really want to do inside their inside.
Exactly.
They're getting the ball in there effectively to turn ball and they're also rebounding on the offensive end extremely well.
Turnbull has been a force on the boards so far and a lot of giant half getting.
He was also also number two Charmaine Ross, five seven senior checking in for the first time tonight.
The 31 old seniors in that Stevenson lineup.
That's unbelievable.
Ten seniors.
I'm kind of quite that many, but it's ten when you look at term, those numbers on the year ten points over ten rebounds a game and says a lot when you're averaging a double, double or more the effort that she's been able to turn in night, in and night out, there was a foul I wasn't sure of support The Times on Charlotte you have to remember John House is standing by courtside.
John what's happening with my head in both huddles basically right now Dennis Watkins want Stephenson to press it down the floor offensively any time that they can.
Head coach Malone for Redan was concerned that they weren't playing disciplined enough.
They need to get their heads into the game and actually play disciplined basketball guys.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Yeah, indeed.
You know, Redan, again, trying to generate offense here, Jake, as you mentioned.
And right now just turn the ball over a little bit like bigs, which you saw right here.
And they've got to find some kind of rhythm here.

Redan is pressing now that they seem concerned there.
They're not taking care of the basketball the way they should, being down by 12, 12 points and they've got to get their set offense going.
Larry Sanders now she goes for the average.
Meredith.
you got to make the shot.
Evans Unable to put it down.
It's heartbreaking right there.
that's that's the offense that brought them to this state final game.
But you've got to convert that.
Both teams really slowing down the pace a little bit here.
Too early on, not as fast as many may have predicted between these two out of the gate right here.
You see the takeaway that Lisa Williams puts up the shot, draws a hard foul from Kiara Page.
Yep.
We had players look a little down and frustrated and they've got to take care of the basketball.
They they're by no means out of this game because they've got that speed that they can play with.
And this is the Lisa Williams who's going to get two shots here.
She's been kind of quiet tonight.
One jumper, you know, look at her season totals right there.
Certainly had been quiet throughout the year.
No, no, not at all.
No.
And she was Dame.
She was magnificent in that comeback against North Korea.
She just turned into a whirling dervish and it was just laugh after layup.
But, you know, as John had mentioned up top, I mean these are teams that, of course, had to play from behind a little bit.
Of course, Stevenson trailed in the fourth period of that game, 42 to 34 against Bill Creek and came back and won it 66 to 51.
Take a short break right here.
We'll be right back to the Arena Gwinnett Center.
Stephen said 2108.

Coach Dennis Watkins has been pleased with what his team has done here so far in this first half kick try.
It hasn't been a precise approach to pass the ball, but the job done.
He's got a 15 point lead midway through the second quarter and there are no I guess from Coach Watkins standpoint, there are no signs that Redan is going to do something that poses a real threat here.
Stephenson is organized.
They're doing what they do and and they really haven't put the pressure on.
I've seen the Stephenson Press.
It's effective and they haven't they haven't done that.
But a couple of times, you know we're talking about the Stephenson all the seniors everything they have in the experience.
Not only that experience playing, but they have experience here inside this building.
I mean, since they were freshmen, they have played the semifinals in this building here.
So they are certainly used to not only playing together, but also a playoff atmosphere.
Absolutely.
And again, the game just doesn't seem focused on the offense.
It does not seem like Redan has a sense of how to attack the Stephenson defense off the inbound right here.
Lisa Andrews trying to make it happen.
Feeds inside.
Nice looking pass right there and Brunson will earn a trip to the line and that time a good look that's what they've got to do That's their game.
As you've said over and over again, Alisha Andrews penetrates and makes things happen again from here.
She's been penetrating, but not enough been happy, right?
Right.
Six foot Junior Delia Brunson at the line first going all the way and gets the ball third different Lady Raider two score here tonight So far it's been all Andrews and Evans for the Redan effort but Brunson in the book there to see her season totals and the second one is also there two points for Brunson two for two on that trip 2110 for Williams Mack and Charmaine Ross will go out now.
Redan brings up the pressure, but Stephenson gets a rough time on and now you see Tennessee Williams give it to the shaken young Jones It rattled in and out of there.
Jones came back up with a following run shot.
One of the really important may have got a hand on that and looks like a blocking foul.
So now is going to be on Evans.
It's going to be two on near where she's going to right there kind of swipe that.
Any time you see a swipe like that, that call.
That's right.
Exactly.
That's that's exactly right.
You've got to be vertical.
But she was legitimately trying to block the shot and she was trying to block the shot of a smaller player in an interesting exit coming back in for then you see Jones numbers on the season, nine points, 2.6 assists, two and a half steals a game for the senior.
Just guessing here, but I think Coach Malone does not want him to get that third foul on Tristan.
I don't think so either.
Is going to have to be careful.
Indeed here off the inbound a little bit of backcourt pressure by Stephenson for Brydon trying to fire across and knocked away ball being kicked around in there That's the ball hit ball I was blocked I couldn't figure out where he wanted it.
I couldn't say that like it.
Were playing soccer there for a moment.
I had a hard time locating that one.
4 minutes remaining here.
The half 2310, 13 point advantage for the Lady Jaguars.
Again, the 2004 state champs here in the title game after a string of semifinal appearances.
Taylor Turnbow with two more.
She's got six.
Turnbow has really improved with her four years of high school.
That was a terrific drop step and power move to three years ago.
She couldn't have done that.
No, that was very effective.
Missed the second or third time we've seen it.
Turnover right here.
Shy and half skinny pull up jumper, no good ball will stay with Stephenson free throw one on the clock They've got a Dick Williams with he along with John Nelson courtside and the rest of the GPB crew it's the full slate of action tomorrow down in make it three point shot from the corner off the Blackwood go and redan with the rebound.
Now Andrews doesn't have a partner Evans, to work with here Malone Moore with the basketball back to page they look dangerous to make it happen Andrews pull up jumper fires No good rebound Turnbow Taylor will push it yourself I had it taken away though by Andrews two on to on the other end and a block by Jones But you got it back Yep got it back Kept it alive inside to Dickson would go second and third opportunities but the lady raiders unable to make it pay Goodin isn't shooting well but in this fun to watch Alicia Andrews.
Yes again 65 to listed at five two no independent tape measurement of that but she's fun to watch.
The shots aren't dropping, but she is not afraid to take it in with the tall trees.
Thank you.
STEPHENSON And the bonus right here goes down to the other end to shoot some free throws Again, that is Turnbow already with six points here in this first half averaging ten on the season.
A game six points.
And you see the rebound totals as well there which is really what she brings more than anything else.
I think for her game yesterday.
Andrews might have been banged up a little bit.
She seemed a little hesitant there with those free throws.
We're going on.
Is Taylor missing the front end of the one and one right there back on the other end.
TURNBOW Good.
BLOCK Second time and out of bounds and back to Stephenson.
What a defensive sequence right here by the six three senior I think they're Turnbow said they're going to make a statement she's gone to that great program at LSU and looked to I mean she never left her feet.
She had her hands in the air.
You worry about being vertical.
That's what I look at.
And the Redan player jumped right into her outstretched fans.
That was police addiction, but she shefflin her feet right there.
She gets that ball against her.
Do you get the feeling, James, that Stephen such kind of taking the pedal off the mental here, steering, slowing it down and maybe that's what Coach Watkins wants to do right here in this timeout Lady Jaguars with a 32nd time to 28 to play here in the first half getting ready and averaging 61 points in the postseason offensively allowing 46 for the third meeting of the year between these two Stevenson of course the number two team in the state.
Well this April don't miss the gripping true life story of the men and women of the aircraft carrier Nimitz Patriotism, love and rites of passage aboard one of our most powerful naval ships.
Don't miss Carrier beginning April 27th, only on Gp-b are you a history buff?
I am, but love on a carrier?
Yeah, on the Nimitz.
I don't think we had women in the Navy then.
That's love of country, right?
Yes, love of country.
A love of fellow sailors.
Absolutely.
Looking forward to that show this April.
Get right here on.
I do want to see that after the time out right here.
Jessica Jones firing away from the baseline.
A little jumper right there wouldn't get it to go with and back the other way from before.
And what's different about where Dan has been allegiances is not in the game nice feet inside and William runs this lovely interior pass for us with four points and we have hit the two minute mark here at period number two.
Jones had to keep the way right there being guarded by Kira Paige Stephenson and a quick alert timeout by Coach Watkins in front of the Stevenson bench.
He knew they were going to have a tough time with a ten second goal right there but he get it across.
So a smart timeout with time winding down here this first half to save the possession.
Yes, absolutely.
And it's strange to see we Dan without Andrew's we've gotten so used to just this little bit we've seen her just pushing that ball and pushing it.
But that was a beautiful interior pass and that's what the game is supposed to be like with Alicia Andrews and the Evans.
That's that's what brought them into this state final game.
And here comes Andrews.
She's back just to brief rest, maybe a quick set of instructions.
Steve It's the first two games of state this year held their opponents under 25 points each week.
Well, I hate to say it, but we're on pace while we're on him alone looking on from the Lady Raider bench right here, trying to rally your troops, get a little offense going still again, far from over here tonight.
No doubt there's a nice bucket inside, a good feed inside to Haskins back on the other end.
Andrews had that shot blocked.
They're leading in in this foul on that rebound The focus back down on the other end for the season Stephenson will be shooting that one and one haven't seen a lot of teams get into the bonus in either half in any of the games we've seen here today.
there it is then.
Andrews is forcing that ball in there with the tall players, but she she can't get a shot up.
It's getting maybe three feet above her head before it's being knocked down again.
One on one miss, though, Niko, Wyche and Stephenson certainly not helped their cause a couple of times here when they have had the the one and one here.
The bonus in the last couple of minutes.
2712 Stephenson leads it redan with the basketball right here trying to cut the get in the gap here a little bit right before the half and there's a bucket and one and one.
Yeah on that possession they took the ball out of Take a look a nice drive back by Kenny and the foul was on half getting.
Yeah.
After they called for her first right there.
That's five team fouls on Stephenson but on that possession that was the rare possession which Lisa Andrews did not have her hand on the ball.
They went to the other side for the raiders out of the line first one off the mark taken down by Afghanistan.
Neither team really tearing it up the stripe here too much in this first half.
Stephenson Kind of backing off a little bit, not really as aggressive as they were early and as soon as I say that to Lisa West, three misses it off the marker a little bit back into the hands of Williams kept alive nicely.
good look inside there half getting a little bit pass in front of her there I guess.
Right She did have the look she had the sequence in mind, but she saw the pass a little bit.
So inside of a minute here in this first half.
Again, live from the arena, big win at center.
Good crowd on hand, as you would expect for a five, a state championship.
That one off the back of the iron.
No good rebound Jessica Jones and Jones will push before right here Quickly pull up jumper and hits Jones with four points here in this first half Knocks down another Well that's good I thought they were taking the pedal off the pedal a little bit, but not that time.
I think they heard you shake it, Jones says.
I'm going down, stagger it.
We got 30 seconds.
Nice idea there by Evans.
He tried to squeeze it in there.
That shot short page that had it taken away.
Williams back on the other end to on one to Lisa Williams takes it herself and lays it up and in six points for Williams the five nine senior and it's 3114 she could in bunches we saw that against Millcreek she was a terrific offensive player with time winding down three point shot from way out is off the mark and that will do it for the first 16 minutes in this five a girl's GHC, a state championship, Stephen said.
31 redan 14 at the break and John Nelson is standing by courtside.
John Carroll here with Coach Watkins.
Pretty successful first half for it.
It was it was a credit to our defense.
Okay.
So let's talk a little bit of the offense.
You want them to kind of work it down the floor a little bit more and just press them down to the floor in a push.
We know that bench is not that deep.
So every chance we get, we want a fast break.
Coach Watkins, thanks for your time for dominating first half.
He's up by 17.
David Deck.
All righty.
Thank you, John.

Where are we?
There you see the halftime score, Stevenson up 3114 over Redan in this girl's five state basketball championship right here live on GPB, John Nelson is courtside and he's standing by with a couple of special guests.
John.
Dave, you ever have one of those situations where you get to talk to your neighbor just over the little fence or the straw that's next door?
I get the opportunity here.
Dr. Angela Pringle with Stephenson.
Greg Goodman with for Dan, I wanted to do ladies first, but she won the toss and deferred.
So we'll go over here and talk to principal government.
What's the week been like over there at Redan?
It's been phenomenal.
We are so proud of our young people.
It's really cool.
Our school together pointed to this case, have done a good job.
Vance Harper, the Barbershop group has done just giving us whatever we need it, and it's been a good week.
Now talk about the friendly rivalry part of the equation here.
Our kids were grown up.
The other played together in the Parks and Recreation center.
They know each other.
They are.
It's friendly, healthy rivalry.
Ah, I know Dr. Ringgold.
We talk almost on a daily basis and we share the same issues and we are looking forward to tonight's ballgame.
We hope it turns out differently, but it's been fun so far.
There's laughter off camera.
We'll keep going here.
What else is going on at Redan the folks need to know about?
We are getting ready for the graduation test.
We are gearing up doing pull out for our junior class because we want to exceed what we did last year.
Student achievement is always at the forefront of Redan High School and we're looking forward to doing sort of wonderful job on the graduation test.
Now think about Redan five years down the line.
Ten years down the line.
How would you like to see things grow and evolve there at the school?
Well, actually, we have a we have a plan for Rosenbaum.
You have to get more parent participation, which all of us are working on.
We have several issues in our school that we are working on, and we have put a plan together with our better thinking team and let's come together, find okay, hang with me.
Let's come over here to the other side.
Okay.
We're going to start first the friendly rivalry thing.
That will be fine.
But I just know he was joking somewhat when he he hopes the game turns around because we know where it's going.
So what is the friendly rivalry like between the zip codes?
It's a lot of fun.
We we we sit at games periodically together, but sometimes we have to separate.
But it's fun.
We just over email, just at meetings and that sort of thing.
But it's a lot of fun and we're certainly working toward the same goals to have high student achievement have a stellar athletic program, and certainly to work as a team and the premier DeKalb County.
So what else is going on at Stephenson the folks need to know about these days?
It's March Madness.
We're getting ready for the high school graduation test.
We know that we're going to do well.
We have sport of our parents, our business community, and we are ready.
So I'll ask you the same question, I think five, ten years down the line for me.
How would you like to see things at Stephenson grow and evolve down the line?
I would really like to see all of our athletic programs grow as big as the girls basketball team has grown.
I'd like to see our achievements increase somewhat.
We tremendous student achievement at Stevenson High School, but there are some areas we want to work on, such as and of course tennis and that sort of thing.
But we are moving toward us toward a school choice and we are looking forward to engaging the International Baccalaureate program and some other programs that will create us an environment and allow us to be a school of choice.
And talk about the cap county.
It's been a fantastic night for DeKalb County Athletics.
I'll start over here and then come back to you.
What's it been like for to cap County?
The cap, Is this exciting?
We are so excited to have this presence here at the center tonight.
We have a great superintendent, Dr. Crawford.
Lewis has high expectations of us all.
And I think that's reflected in what you see here tonight.
Okay.
This is what happens when you get to interview Nabors.
Mr. Goodwin, Dr. Pringle, back to you guys All ready.
Thank you, John.
Those guys are having a lot of fun out there.
It looks like that's what it's all about.
Yeah, it actually, if you think about Stevenson's the newer high school it kind of grew out of re.
Dan was right.
Andrew got too big.
They built Stevenson there you go to schools again CHEERING Stone Mountain as an address right there.
Dick let's talk a little bit about this game.
Of course, the first half highlights really back and forth early on minutes for Stevenson.
How big can it is the Taylor Turnbow show for Stevenson?
She's dominant inside taking that fine inside move to LSU and there's there's Julius away and she she is a force offensively and because she can penetrate and then she is dumps down to Turnbow and that was that strong drop step move that's almost impossible to stop And so we saw Williams again pulling up instead of forcing the ball in confident in her jump shot that time taking a straight to the rack and we'll take a look at the other side as well Redan also with a big first half from Nia Evans in the Evans has got to get it going.
If they're going to do this they're going to close this lead a little bit.
Yeah, Evans is the inside player, but she's got to be more than that in the second half.
And I you look at the numbers shooting Yeah five for 26 that's the number we wondered about 19% that's your nightmare and one of eight on three point field goals.
A lot of that 19% shooting is because Andrews has been forcing the ball inside where there isn't an option for her.
And again she's so slight so in stature, as strong and quick as she is, she can't muscle the ball up.
And so a 19% shooting performance, that's one where you want to go home and maybe consider now 3114.
We'll step aside and be right back with the second half from the arena at Gwinnett Center.
When we return, Elvis live in Concert reunites Elvis back on stage with his original backup singers and band member in commemoration of the 25 years since his passing, this magnificent concert event took place at the Pyramid Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee, Monday at 930 on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, and now broadcasting in Digital in the Atlanta area.
Stephenson leads at 3114 as we get start set for the second half right here.
Let's go courtside.
John Nelson standing by with Coach Malone.
I trained this.
Thanks, guys.
Here with Coach Malone.
So you're saying that you were telling the players in the first part of the game was just to calm down and play your game?
True?
We had to, you know, STEPHENSON They love that running game and they like to pressure the basketball.
We knew that coming in, but we needed to settle down and execute our offense and do the things that are necessary for us to win the ballgame.
Defensively, we got to get back, we got to rebound, box out the big girl and execute on offense.
Those are the things we're going to have to do in order to get back to this ballgame.
Thanks, Coach, for your time.
Send it back to David Dick.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Again, ready?
And in their second title game in last four years, Chris reaching the championship in 2005 lost to a College hill.
But back of the game here tonight and looking for that first state championship.
What the crew chief Andy Carroll starts the second half and revenge got to do better than 19% sure that was the thing.
And you know, we talk a lot about the turnovers and things like that.
And that was certainly a big key in that first half for turnovers.
But here's Alysha Andrews right here trying to convert a turnover into points and does so she is her right hand on the left side sneaks it up over the defender and that was the shot she wasn't getting in the first half right.
You know, when you give up the size that Alisha does, I mean, I think you have to be creative sometimes in the way you switch the ball around some hand.
And her size right hand left hand went different.
Right?
You know, you get a few all around a bigger player.
That's right.
Absolutely.
3116 right here.
WHISTLE actually, it does make a difference approach would tell you that but in that situation it was the right thing to do.
So Redan is now shooting 100% in seven so there's hope for them for revenge this time.
Stevenson showed a little bit of pressure right here, but ready and able to get it across.
And Coach Malone mentioned something that we talked about.
Wiggins seeming frustration in executing their halfcourt offense in the first half.
Let's see if the halftime made a difference if they maybe be a little more patient.
And that was a nice insertion right into the middle of the shot.
Didn't go down.
Nice feed inside to Evans and Evans fought off Taylor Turnbow and got that one done He Evans with six points here the first two of the second half for her 3118 score the first four out of the locker room here in this third quarter.
And there's a nice looking drive right there strong drive to Lisa Williams Allison, this a good player, good offensive player.
Here comes Andrews and she throws Barnes It almost looks like an alley oop pass right there.
Nearly got it to go off the glass.
But it was the kind of creative play you were talking about.
Here Comes care of You.
Think of John Jones and Stevens.
He scores just like that.
they could certainly turn the tables in a hurry, no doubt.
Remember Andrews here with the ball?
Just a sophomore.
Very young.
Her running mate in the back court there, number 15 to page the ninth again, Moore with the shot off the mark would go take it down half kitty back the other way and they're going to get Andrews there for a reach.
It looks like is not sure, sir, that that's the problem for Redan 38.
We've got to be careful right there in that situation.
No doubt.
But as the second half starts, the score has moved.
But but Redan is running something that resembles their offense and they're getting better shots in the paint and down around the basket.
So a little bit short there from Jones, but a big rebound by Evans and a quick kick out to the freshman page here.
Page a little bit short right there.
Couldn't get it to go and then a push frustration foul after missing the layup It happens a lot of sugar out of that as only a freshman playing against a bunch of really good st right exactly Meanwhile Yoshiko Jones has been very active number three for Stevenson has been all over the place here in this first half.
Well, a combination of Jones and Williams is a very athletic, fast backcourt for Stevenson.
You throw in a six by three post player like Turnbow and it's a complete package and it's a little pull up jumper for Jones.
Melissa Johnson with a blow to the force jumper.
They're not forcing the steal great hit right there inside the half TNT drill Lisa Williams with a beautiful assist and there's a timeout by Redan coach Rhonda malone going to signal it right here.
It is a 32nd time out, 519 here in this third period, 3918.
The score back with more from the arena will keep the action right here with 519 to play and of course Stevenson you see the lady Jaguars right there still in control right here and Redan is got a so we talked about trying to find some offense right here.
They've averaged 61 in the postseason right around 60 or close to it throughout the year.
But of course we'll try that tonight.
Lady Jaguars more defensively.
They're doing about what they've done pretty much all year.
I think Coach Malone of Redan wants to be sure she's not blown out.
She doesn't want to have a terrible experience for these freshmen laden team, freshmen, sophomores, the key contributors to this team.
And she's got to use this game, win or lose, as the catapult to next year, right.
For Stevenson to all out these are seniors they want to cap it off with the state title nice bounce pass is sort of a lost art their turn around wouldn't go partially block Rawls try to put that one up another rebound for Turnbow she's got a bunch of suspect but on the line right there by Williams and she knew it all right and she thought it talking about the bounce pass we've seen a couple of nice bounce passes right the referee and account from the Macon area right there so that that hit the line.
That's an easy call shot a little bit short right there off the mark.
Nice job there by Rouse to go back up with it, to draw the whistle and she forced Turnbow into the foul because she had possession going to the basket two fouls on firm both here we talking about the teams and how they treat a state championship.
You know the nerves got to be there how about from an official standpoint I mean how does it official view a state championship game they get get nervous?
I think officials are very nervous.
When I walk out on the state Final four, I think they shake it off very quickly.
As soon as the ball's tip.
But, you know, there are an awful lot of observers, officials, everybody's here.
We they're not only are there several thousand would be referees, but they're probably a couple of hundred referees here watching and keeping tabs on their game as well.
But off the mark on the second rails, they're empty on that trip.
Down on the other end.
Pass too far ahead there for Williams.
Lyles is the rare senior on this damn team.
There's not too many of them but is he a Wyatt as a senior Kelly Rawls, of course.
Celina Alexander, Felicia Dixon.
But we're not seeing a lot of that in the ballgame.
And everybody else, he has younger three point shot all the way right here, just off the mark.
Wouldn't Why go kept alive though but put on the line by Evans Yeah 2 minutes and now Redan will put a little pressure on him.
Nope.
Ton of time on the floor.
Coach Ronna Malone going to talk things over with her lady Raiders will step aside.
Be back 3918 Stevenson on top of this five a girls state championship career coming soon to Georgia Public broadcasting They're going to look at the Redan bench right there.
Coach Ronna Malone talking things over with her troops right here.
430 to play in this third period.
Lady Jaguars have Stevenson up 39 to 18 lady Raiders not out of it yet but again they've got to generate some offense That's pretty much been the theme from the opening tip.
Well the first couple of possessions of the second half, they look like a different team.
They were running and they were creating space and they were finding the players in the paint and down around the basket.
Now they're back to being frustrated and denied by the bigger Stevenson defenders inside.
And and I think Coach Malone, another time out.
Let's get him back to what we do.
Let's run our system.
Let's run our staff saw Coach Watkins intense right there boys kind of he's got that look of concentration on his face right now but his team up by 21 here in this ballgame.
The coach who relaxes is the next coach.
Yes, exactly.
Jump off ball right here Possession error in favor of Redan.
It looks like the lady Raiders will have the basketball for 21 left here in the third period.
Of course, I want to welcome you the viewers back for another championship weekend live right here on GPB.
Good crowd on hand, of course.
Five boys action coming up a little bit later on.
Some of the game that's going to be what a game.
Norcross And we're two nationally known programs.
That's going to be spectacular.
What's great athletes have three point shot is rolls around boy seemed like it took a while for that to develop right there Alisha Andrews nearly had it on the roll and Kelly Riley's got the rebound and Chandler Turnbow of Stephenson with one hand reached up, pushed the ball inside, knocked it out of it was a very physical move by Tanner Turner and SCC kind of move You've got to have that strength to play in that conference.
Absolutely three point shot on the way right here off the mark wouldn't go taken down by Williams back the other way.
You know if Coach Watkins were to go to his bench, she'd still be bringing in seniors with me.
He's just got such a senior laden team.
There's a shot right there.
I hi, Williams Williams with a couple of buckets here tonight got five points on the evening.
Now, should we be honest with our viewers and tell them we've got a player in the game three down we can identify.
We have a mystery player in the game, puts a couple of numbers around their office.
We're trying to get a couple of numbers there.
We have 321 left here in the third period.
Good atmosphere this week.
And, you know, it's always great to be here.
Of course, it's a great basketball venue.
A lot of big events happen here in the arena when at center.
But I tell you what, nothing to me tops this GHC state basketball championships.
Always a lot of fun to form every year.
And here comes a little pressure point then I'm kind of surprised again, hasn't attracted more, but maybe the coach brings this little backcourt right here, that court right there, right there on the line.
It's close in favor of the lady Raiders who will have the basketball here nearing the three minute mark and of the corner, Andrews trying to find a little bit of room right here and jump ball calm possession here.
We'll stay with the dance to the let's say this for the mother and father of number 24 for Redan.
She's doing a good job out there and maybe we'll see her next year in the Final Four ball loose right there.
Take it away, though, Andrews.
behind the back pass.
What a shot.
I tell you what, Delia Brunson didn't have a choice but to make that shot.
Thank goodness she knocked that one down.
That was a beautiful pass by Andrews, her stepping up her game a little bit, even with the fouls here in the second half.
Watch this right here.
Very good hustle right there by an I'm sorry.
Griffin Brunson would have felt bad if she didn't make that shot because you got it.
You just got to give her the assist on that one.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
That was beautiful.
That's kind of vision she has.
You know, Andrews, again, a smaller player that you can look at here, a page of freshman.
You know, we talk about the youth of this Redan team.
You know, they're going to be around.
I mean, they're not going away, especially with all these younger players.
They're going to be fun to watch in the future.
Some old school guys like me might call that behind the back pass a little unnecessary showmanship, but at her size, that was the pass.
She made the pass to the player open for the shot.
You can't you can't second guess that fast ball loose still rolling around down there, knocked out of bounds last touched by Stephenson Redan basketball terrific hustle on defense there players diving for the ball they're not playing like it's a 41 to 20 Stevenson League they're playing clock under two and a half ago three point shot off the mark Wouldn't go ball rolling around in there.
Williams with a handle on it back the other way That's Williams push it it swings it out Good vision right there it's almost a little no look pass kick it back there.
But Williams didn't have the angle at the basket.
Atkins pull up jumper off the glass.
No good.
Follow that A block right there.
Great job by Nia Evans.
Do that a couple of times.
Nice defense.
All right.
Number 24 in the blue uniform of Redan, there's Kimiko Giles, a sophomore.
Thanks to John Nelson for that fine job over there on the Redan bench.
Kimiko, a sophomore for way in the 24th and another big block mania.
Evans Wow, here comes Andrews, on the other hand.
great.
Look right there.
And Evans inside couldn't get the shot there for a more Who dished it off to her underneath the hoop.
Andrews though kept it alive.
Brunson puts up a shot tough shot just wouldn't go rebound Williams Sometimes you want her maybe one too many passes it's hard to second guess You don't know what they say.
Other teams do exist.
I think we all ice for the Lakers and equal why the sophomore five foot seven will check back in the lineup for Stevenson.
You see coach Rondo Malone again seasons at Redan for the lady Raiders have been here before in the five title game no championships so looking for the first state championship up here tonight.
Here comes the senior center for Stevenson.
She will like six, three, three senior Ms. Amazing It could take 163 senior off the floor and put on another and she makes a bid to get in the box.
Score two opportunities.
Good point.
Get it to go right there.
Maybe the next trip down and then off the of from tough turnover the backward firing Dan and Seattle go right back to the lady Jaguars I suspect now with Turnbow getting a rash that Stevenson's offense will take a notch back still strong right there by nine Dale Williams seven points tonight for the 511 sophomore And with all these seniors you know looking at the flip side of that pick, obviously with all the seniors graduate, they're going to have to look to players like Ty, Dear Williams and people.
Why should some of those players next year to sort of step up and clear the loan a little bit?
Yes, I suspect that next year is going to be a little bit difficult for students.
And then we've got to go back to office.
Who knows what take got coming in, ninth graders and so forth.
But, you know, we then might get the local bragging rights back next year with all these young players, especially yams and Louisiana.
big block right there by Bradley Rowley stuff Curry jump ball possession areas Davidson Those do you hate that for Julia Brunson she just got to Spalding Yeah and I've forgotten that that's the official saying that she got the old facial with that one time winding down here this third period for Stevenson playing last night in the semis, taking on Mill Creek, winning the first two.
Lisa Williams with 20 points in that game and all when they count it.
Yes she was terrific then trailed 4230 for the fourth quarter of that game and came back and won it Turnbow with seven blocks, 12 rebounds and nine points to go along with it as well.
Had a big night and traveling with the court right there in places like that.
She's a freshman.
She won't do that next year.
Kiara Paige meanwhile you she could Jones also had 17 last night.
Chris Redan was led by Andrews who had 28 points in that 6250 win over Duluth.
Those are four and she looks pretty explosive after the match before substitutes up and around the lot of 2254 32 Sidney Mason checking in it looks like ninth grader, another ninth grader coming in for Redan for the 22 and five six freshman.
So now the backcourt as both are both freshmen, both guards.
If you look at Felicia, Nicole Wyche puts up a shot right here, waived off.
Did you mention that Jillian Moore came in the game number double zero for them back in?
Yeah.
She's a junior matter if it's going to be on Moore her first five team fouls right there 7.86 on the clock right here.
As we reach the end of the third period off the inbound shot.
No good Britney White in there battling inside jump ball small possession arrow back to Redan.
Both teams really fighting here.
We've seen a lot of jump ball calls.
You like to see that both teams being aggressive, push it up, get a shot here.
And in the third period, regroup.
It's what you've got to do.
3.4 on the clock right here is the freshman understand that?
Let's see I they got the shot three point shot short from Jillian more of Allen do it.
So it's three quarters of play It's the Stevenson lady Jaguars 43 the Redan later Raiders 20 will step aside.
Be right back with.
The fourth and final quarter from the arena at Gwinnett Center.

This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station, and now broadcasting in Digital in the Atlanta area for the start of the fourth quarter right here live from the Arena, Gwinnett Center, Dave Garner, Dick Williams with you, John Nelson Courtside with us along with the rest of the Gp-b team, of course, 4320 the score, Stevenson leads it over again in this five a girl's state championship.
More basketball coming up later tonight.
The five boys game between Norcross and Wheeler should be a good one.
Absolutely.
That's one.
You got to stick around to watch that.
I mean, that's just two nationally ranked going after it.
They haven't played since a year ago in the first round of the state turn one when Wheeler was upset by Norcross.
And of course, another full slate tomorrow down in Macon, single-A, Double-A triple-A championship.
You and I will be there for the Double-A and the triple-A Girls Championships.
Looking forward to working with you again tomorrow day.
Absolutely.
Nice little reverse right there.
Just couldn't get it to go.
And Redan again trying to play out this final seven and a half minutes right here, trying to find a spark to get back in the game and coach Malone is went to the bench a lot of different combinations, couple of things at work.
But Stevens has just really been dominant trying to get these younger players a taste of what it's like to play before the big crowd in the big I don't blame her.
She knows it's unlikely that she'd be able to come back from a 43 to 20 deficit and 19% shooting in the first half.
So get everybody a taste what it takes to win a state title and play against a great team like Stephenson.
And I got to correct myself on one thing.
I said that on that block that it was a Spalding, the official ball of the game yesterday as a Wilson I just look at that came by I'm sure they'll appreciate this just accuracy you know that counts Neah Evans at the line right here.
You see six points, four rebounds for the sophomore tonight.
She's going to be a good one.
She played just terrifically in the semifinals.
Evans had 16 points.
Yes.
Last night against Duluth, Andrews with that 28 point effort and a blocking foul inside on Stephenson all around the back the other way I think it was on the Adams yeah no it's player control yes how about that back in the lineup here Alisha Andrews will come back in playing with those four fouls again has six points here tonight for Redan averaging 10.8 on season and will go ahead and come on in.
Now she's got to run that offense to the coaches desire.
She's got to you got to show that she can make something happen in the half game.
Stephenson has denied the running game completely blocking foul right two fouls on to Lisa Williams the five nine senior in Redan beat Monroe in round one 5632 Peach in round two 7158 and of course tangled with Douglas and the quarterfinals region rival on that one by ten there's a little shot off the glass right there by Andrews again that's as you mentioned, you got to be creative She lofted that shot up high off the glass and she could Jones back on the other end puts up the floater wouldn't go take it down by Evans the rebound right there that's one of the few pull up jumpers the students and back quarters missed tonight.
Lisa Williams and Jessica Jones are good at that.
Savvy seniors Jones and Williams Andrews dish inside right there and then a another whistle inside I think the fouls on turn by itself in the fourth quarter this is Williams for that one it looks like three teams three fouls knowledge Elisa Williams the five nine senior little discussion right here I might be able to who the foul is on and referee Amy Tardy the Peach State Association is sure she tells Andy Cowart that and go back to the fouls on two shots right here for Andrews first one is there so we a point away right here for breaking into double figures tonight and getting right there at her average player substitution right here.
Can you see why it's five five senior in for the lady riders, one of the rare seniors on this roster as was stressed second one on the way from Andrews in and out of there taken down by Jones back the other way too strong nice execution from the break and it will be ready in basketball you know the last couple of years looking at this five a game of course all the titles have belonged to college still, but certainly a shift in power this year as we see two teams out of reach and two here tonight going at it head to head, third meeting of the season.
You've got to send that to cap.
County basketball is pretty strong.
I mean, the school superintendent, Dr. Wills, he's allowed to say that with three state championships today, tomorrow, that in Macon, Dunwoody will play, I think will, play for the Triple H next game.
And we don't know how the games are going down there.
We'll see you to camp.
Could be all over the lot with with gold cups right right.
See Evans right here, six points tonight.
Back at the line here again.
And she's only got half her average.
That tells you what's happening.
She she is a player who averages 13 points and seven rebounds and she's got six points.
Taylor Turnbow has been her nemesis this evening.
Just too much for really.
But she's a softness and both are saying that's the way these things work with high school kids.
And what's missing on the second one right there, pressure by the young Redan team.
John, I was talking to the principals there at halftime.
Seemed like everybody was having fun.
You know, say they say a friendly rivalry.
That's what you like to see is the relationships between the administrators and really feeling that school spirit.
And a good point.
It was brought up as a lot of these young ladies right here played together, you know, and in different leagues and so forth.
They've grown up together, playgrounds, the middle schools, the youth programs.
We said that at the outset.
Every one of these kids knows every other kid on the other team.
And it is I wonder if John was literally correct, though, that they're in the same zip code.
I mean, he said it with confidence.
I'm not sure.
Okay.
Okay.
It's pretty popular, Cherie.
I bet there's more than one zip code between Reed, Hannan and Stevenson.
But the fact is they all know each other.
They get along and, you know, the camp has grown so that they've opened so many new high schools, right?
Miller Grove Stevenson is relatively new five one half to play here in the fourth quarter, a big block from behind right there by Taylor Turnbow.
Both these teams continue to play hard, which is what you would expect out of a championship matchup here in this posting inside of interim both of then they call for the about right there looks like no I don't think so I just jump on that was a phone call I don't know how many blocks she has tonight.
You know we had she had seven last night.
I think she's got at least that this evening.
And again, that's the second time she's done that.
Just stand straight up and bring that ball down to the floor.
She has blocks tonight, nine points.
That is that is an impressive win.
Absolutely.
Taylor Turnbow again showing out defensively here tonight that shot by Andrews off the mark kept alive though the feed inside and Evans draw the whistle Well let's give Evans some credit for that play She took it right to Turnbow She wasn't intimidated She knows she's got to make that move and go to the basket.
And she got the result.
She goes to the free throw line.
It can't be fun to have to square up and go against by every play like that, you know, no big bodies banging around in there, no doubt.
You know, she's halfway to her average in that area.
Evans hasn't had a lot of success at the free throw line of the last couple of trips here.
But knocks that one down right there at the Post.
Coach is still seven in a lot of players.
There you see Evans numbers here tonight, seven points, five rebounds to go along with it.
She gets a lot of trips to the line.
Now, over the years, she's taken a lot of free throws.
She shoots 56% and that's because it's against players who aren't called Taylor Turnbow, right?
She gets to take it to the rack and get fouled and the roll on the second one, two, four, two for Evans on that trip 32nd time out on the floor with 505 remaining in the ballgame.
4425 The score Stevenson on top of step aside be right back after a quick break right here live on GPB regrets broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association.
The GHC would like to thank Dodge their support of high school sports programing on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Back here inside the arena at Gwinnett Center, five girls state championship playing out the final five of four right here in your living room tonight.
We want to welcome all of our viewers from around the state of Georgia live on GPB, Dave Gardner, Dick Williams with you.
John Nelson, courtside with us tonight along with the rest of the GPB broadcast team.
We're seeing another game left here tonight, the five boys state championship and a whole nother round tomorrow.
There's a takeaway by Alisha Andrews.
And unable to convert the points and that's just sort of the way it's went tonight for Redan.
That's right.
And we shouldn't lose this time that that showed with missing that little bunny layup but she's going to be a terrific player is going to be so much fun to watch She's only a sophomore.
That behind the back pass the way she challenges the bigger players.
It's fun And I think Kiara Paige, your backcourt mate, who is less spectacular, is going to be a good one to, you know, it's fun.
Tickets to watch players from Georgia excel to the next level.
And we have certainly been blessed by some great athletes for some of especially some of these bigger five, eight schools to make it to that next level.
And then the quality level, as we were talking about earlier, high school basketball in Georgia, especially on the girls side, just seems to be getting better and better each year.
How about that?
Maya moore from College Hill goes up to UConn and coach Geno Auriemma tells her before the season, you're not going to play a lot.
Two kids go down and she's a she's an all-American player for UConn.
And of course, the free throw right there, Evans knocking it down.
She's got nine one more on the way, trying to break into double figures here this evening and knocks it down.
Good job, Evans.
Four for four in the last two trips.
It's great She's going to be a good player.
And what Coach Malone will do is use the memory of this.
Just burn it in to them how badly they want to get back and do better the next time.
I'm also happy for Stevenson because they have all the seniors pick them all those years of work to get to this point.
He's been awful and has Courtney, 31, with the bucket right there for Reardon and a foul.
And I believe that is going to be five on Lisa Andrews.
That's one of the kind of hours of the trip that's got to be called to the minimum to mean to do that.
So Andrews will come out of the ball game to a good ovation from this crowd here at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
So, ladies, with nine points returning for John I don't think she had her usual session.
I missed a little bit of this Stevenson defensive back line.
It was just so tough all night, especially in that half.
Just nowhere from I got a feeling after seeing Coach Watkins over there that he's not going to crack a smile.
He's not going to relax until well, until the scoreboard reading 000 up there.
You're right.
He can't relax.
Got to keep teaching.
Jason Williams off the mark on that free throw right there.
So right back the other way here And he is leaving a mixture of key players in the game He's got some youngsters in there Nice speed inside.
great pass right there by Evans inside and he go child is the best now still goes the games right back on the other end shot off the mark Wooden go take it down and back the other goes Rudy Denson pull up little soft on that one rebound Rhoden And a foul going to be called it looks like on Britney White Jenna Turnbow on the bench.
Brittany White, who's a senior, getting some moments in the low, low post for Stephenson Turnbow coming back.
There you see the intense look right there.
Coach Dennis Watkins was still coaching.
That's right.
The day of pulling your starter seems to be over.
Yeah, You don't see a whole lot of that You.
No, it's intense and it's teaching is constantly teaching.
Jillian Moore two points four rebounds for the junior here forward in and at the line right here with four or five left this is on the first floor wearing double zero.
That's also an interesting combination You don't always see either as Taylor Turnbow steps back in there, you don't see many double zeros anymore.
Moore averaging almost five points a game on the season five, six Junior misses is on the second.
Turnbow reaches out of there with and still pressing, still trying to pressure the basketball three point shot from the corner Short wouldn't go Turnbow battling inside underneath lays it in That's eight points tonight for Turnbow the six three senior and that's kind of why she's special She doesn't score all many one zero average averages ten but she gets ten rebounds and we think tonight nine or ten blocks And how about that shot by Jillian Moore right there?
That's a rotational shot.
Last play and a jump ball and ball possession arrow Steve assists 4633 Redan quietly battling their way back and it's certainly not over yet with 331 left.
Well yes I guess technically is not you're right Dave that's good observation.
13 points, 3 minutes.
It's been done before.
Absolutely crazy things have happened.
But you have to have three point shooters to do right off the amount that one short Moore out of there with it.
And we'll remember that in the first half at least, Redan was one for eight from three point range.
Their game is Andrews to Evans, and that's not working out too.
still knocked away their quick hands by Ty Dolla Williams goal like it's an equal weight back in the lineup Right there you see your number ten five seven sophomore.
This is where I'm alone.
Coach Malone is down urging them to execute.
She's still teaching, still trying to get these younger players with with Sanders out of there to run the offense properly.
Turnbull will inbound it for Stevenson backcourt pressure right here by Redan.
They know they need some quick turnovers, that's for sure.
Dick It's a quick points.
They need quick turnovers, fast breaks and quick turnovers in three point shots, but they are playing hard on defense, Jan showing a little bit of patience, I have to say right there.
And one Wow, what a drive by JR Lisa Williams and a rock solid foul by Nick Adams.
Yes, absolutely.
You can see Lisa Williams who so good goes to the hole in the air and just takes her out.
But Williams is experienced enough and strong enough to convert that layup and completes the three point play does the senior.
So a dozen points tonight for Lisa Williams who continues to serve her play in the playoffs here and right on into this championship game here tonight.
Now Stevenson still putting on pressure even with just 2 minutes left and almost getting a steal out before the ball right there idea Williams slow getting up at midcourt back to her feet here is the freshman that one take it away good hands there by Turnbow and a quick foul Nope the corner out of bounds and award the ball out of bounds Come on and get the first quarter foul right there.
Return number two by five Freshman will have other opportunities.
There's no doubt, no matter what happens And the outcome of this one here tonight and I know the score, of course, makes me sound a bit laughable.
I think this is very, very good.
Next year.
They're just so young.
They're going to be good.
These kids are going to be stronger, taller.
They should be they should be excellent.
Next year.
And Williams with 13 points.
There you see her tonight, six rebounds.
And she's played kind of a mistake free game to just play a very smart game and you expect seniors on state championship teams to do that right.
Well she's the player we focused on in the pre game there as you see the Stevenson bench a lot of seniors playing their last game.
Absolutely.
That's a moment for kids when they when they finally realize it's over.
And for most of them, it is maybe some intramural right that went on taken away you she could Jones on the other end all alone lays it up and in and Jones in double figures now comes the second different lady Jaguar to reach double figures in scoring as we hit the two minute mark in the contest.
great look inside there to Evans and one and Evans crossed it over and got the foul Nice play by near Evans to get the opportunity for the old fashioned three point play and a six foot sophomore making it make it it's twice I think this team is going to be good next year.
I don't know if they're good enough to get back to the Final Four, but I think they're going to be a good team without Stevenson.
Obviously into a huge rebuilding mode.
Well, you know, Redan is certainly got the pieces in place and you see Evans numbers here tonight, 11 points, five rebounds.
And Coach Malone's teams were always in contention for the Final Four, if not always here, the five title game, the second time a game in four years forward.
Dan Stevenson, of course, has been to the series the last few years and just fell a little bit short after winning the state title in 2004.
But looking to add their second here, the last Hi Dan Williams with that last floater there with nine points as well.
There's only a assortment for students, right?
So she'll be part of the building blocks next year.
So we're talking about that.
I mean, there are a couple of younger players not, many, but there are a couple and a couple of juniors as well.
Kayla Atkins, one of the starters as a junior, Marissa Lewis listed as a junior as well there.
So situation indeed where, you know, Stevenson will certainly have some pieces to play with next year, no doubt.
And you know, Coach Watkins, again, we talk a lot about these five schools and they just they rebuild.
You know, at that point, that's exactly they do.
And so is that what's really expected?
What you guys want to go with these continue to be competitive for these schools or for student bodies?
There was a time before the camp built two new high schools.
Stevenson had way 20 students.
Right.
And and so they have a lot to draw from.
Plus they have a fabulous tradition of basketball.
And they're going to look at the game.
Coming up next, the five boys state championship Wheeler and Norcross, That's coming up next right here live on GPB.
A forward to a great game.
They're going to look at some of the fans in the house here tonight.
Faces painted pompoms, lots of noise.
And that's what you want to see.
Yeah, this looks like it's looked like it all the camp down show.
afternoon.
The Norcross blue will will change that and the Wheeler team won when they came in, but now they're having a great time.
Columbia drew a huge crowd for their boys.
Quite a victory for.
The state title.
How about Fayette County?
Of course, both boys and girls teams.
So they had a huge crowd as well.
And we'll see that tomorrow in Macon.
Great atmosphere, indeed.
Smiles Starting to peak out a little bit over there on that Lady Jaguar bench.
I think they could feel it now, Dick, with a minute and a half to play.
I think they can.
And I think probably Coach Watkins, who's low key, intense, probably doesn't want to see a lot of celebration until the game is over.
And then especially those seniors, they're surely to celebrate and just hope nobody gets hurt in the scrum on the floor.
Free throw off the mark right there by Rudy Denson five five Senior.
It's a try to reporter name in the book.
They're a little bit short on that second one follow right there by Brittney White.
Another one will go to the line another senior.
So she and the book the okay, here's here's her choice, her chance.
Brittney White is going into that box score for the ages.
Show to your grandkids.
Here you go.
Well, you know, what's you know, you look at the experience right here and then you look at the high.
Now, the roster for Stevenson, 636.5 11 five, 11, 511.
I mean, you know, not only do you have the experience, you've got the seniors, but you've also got the signs in there as well with a lot of different players.
When you go to Stevenson, you got people to look up to.
Yeah, I know.
I would, that's for sure.
Yeah, that's a brother up.
Yeah.
Vertically challenged as we are off the back of the iron there by wide on that one 5536 just outside of a minute left looking inside or out there.
Take it away.
That's Dixon and we'll draw the two shot foul right there.
And Felicia Dixon will to the line 53 on the other side as well, where Danielle with a couple of six footers in there, of course, Kelly Rawls, six foot one here.
Evans is a six footer along with Felicia Dixon and Delia Brunson.
They've got to they've got to the horses, too.
Taylor Turnbow was just too much for them.
Let's face it.
She played a spectacular old fashioned basketball game, rebounding, passing tremendous on defense with all those blocks in possession all night, driving to the hole very effectively.
She was just too much for this kind of an offense that redan depends on.
They got it.
They got to drive and dish and it didn't do any good to dash off to return blows there right since Jackson one of two on that last trip up for carrying ball right there on Stevenson you get a look at Taylor showing the smile there.
I remember when she was a raw freshman at Tucker and I wondered if she'd ever be a player.
And she as a player, could she answer that question in this postseason and certainly here tonight in this championship game?
Absolutely.
You hate to see all these fouls late, but that's the way it goes.
Here you go.
I think the crowd is the Stevenson fans are ready to celebrate in the crowd is ready for the Norcross Blue Devils and the winner of the Wheeler gymnastics.
You can't complain, though, about being in a venue like this and watch it.
High school basketball, no matter what the score is.
Being in this atmosphere, it's just great.
And fans, of course, all the way around this thing and just a great atmosphere as we talked about for high school basketball, a great venue.
And I'm sure these two have have a it is.
And I tell you what, I'm really happy to be part of these broadcasts.
This is the kind of thing that brings the state together.
This is the largest state east of the Mississippi, Don't forget.
And this is telecast of these great state finals.
And basketball and football are available to everyone.
And next year, all the football finals in the dome, five class football games in Dome under ideal conditions, no home court and no home field advantage.
That's going to be spectacular.
And they're going to look at the numbers here from Turnbow 14 rebounds, eight points and nine blocks.
That's a game.
That's a game.
And we said at the outset, scoring was not the most important thing.
She brought for her game three point shot for Rudy Denson.
Jensen's first points of the night as the lady Jaguar bench erupted with that cheering on the other teammates here a little bit, you can see the box score inside.
Evans Tough shot right there, but that's a move Evans will make next year.
She needed to want to drop her step down a little bit lower so she had an angle to the basket.
It was good defense to that were knocked away there.
Felicia Dixon went up with it.
Dixon will be back at the line.
Dixon's worked hard here in the fourth quarter, creating opportunities after the Stripe.
And we'll go back to the line at least this time right here.
Now, I think I just saw Dennis Watkins smile.
I'm not sure I'm.
But that would be that would be a first.
This game, I think I think I know he's still bringing in another substitute even with just 13 seconds left in this state championship game for us to win.
452 Bria Benson entering the lineup right here for Stephenson in this final 13.1 seconds minutes there.
You get to look at these Stephenson players start and celebrate a little bit over there on the bench they are but that they're a reflection of their coach They're going nuts.
They're waiting and he is he is calm enough.
Let's just see how emotional he might get.
I'd be surprised if he gets to head up about it.
Dixon with another made free throw right there, 13.1.
This is a Stevenson team that has been here before, as you mentioned, won it No.
Four, been in the semis basically every year since, but three consecutive losses in the semis and finally get back over the hump again this year.
End of the championship game at 11.3 seconds away from their second state title in three years.
And a frustration and foul there by Felicia Dixon.
She's a senior.
This is it for her.
And she just took it out on the offensive player, Ariel Walton, at the line right here.
That one off the side of the iron.
No good five to end Junior.
This is another player that Coach Watkins will have next season.
Right.
And the turn by reading the taller players will take an even bigger role next year.
But look at short they're on the free throw final 10 seconds down the court so know Alexander, 33, puts up the shot might have been partially tip no good the followers there by Evans who will in the game with 14 points but it's the Stevenson lady Jaguars who wrap it up by a final 58 to 43.
They are the 2008 GHC state girls basketball champion and it's almost the celebration on at midcourt for Stevenson, who steps up big and adds another state title to the resume.
We'll take a timeout.
Be right back with more from the Arena Gwinnett Center when we return, DVD or VHS tape, copies of today's game can be ordered for $19.99, plus $5.50 for shipping and handling from game tapes.

Let's go courtside.
Jon Nelson standing by with the winning coach, John here with Coach Watkins.
How does it feel to win another state championship?
it feels great.
It feels great.
Been a long time coming.
So I'm glad to be back here.
And it was a good game dominating performance on both sides of the ball tonight.
You played him two times earlier in the year.
Third time you hit him again.
Yes, we're familiar with each other and nothing has changed.
But as everybody knows, we like the press and that was our game plan since day one.
Put pressure on him, keep the pressure on him and attack the basket.
We'll talk about the seniors who were freshmen the last that you were winning championships.
Well, we told them, you know, this doesn't happen every time.
And so, you know, we told them since day one we wanted to get back.
We kept making it to the Final Four coming up short.
And this year's team, you know, it was just a barn.
