He's coming in it's a slam jam the pull up from three.
Watch this guy go wheel drive backs it in and gets in.
But a long weekend comes to conclusion here at the coliseum in make in prime time basketball here on GPB as we take you inside the center flex on GPB is live an exclusive coverage of the Georgia High School Association basketball championships.
The six eight boys title on the line, Hillgrove from Region four and the North Cross Blue Devils hailing from Region seven.
Good evening to you.
Welcome.
I along with Herb White and Herb, we're going to keep the lights on a little bit longer and then you and I are going to close down the make him coliseum.
It's been an outstanding weekend and we got our final game tonight to Bambi's.
Well let's make it another let's go to triple overtime get some real basketball in but looking again for a good ballgame here tonight.
You know Hillgrove as a team we don't know a lot about as far as their past history of getting because they haven't been here.
We know Norcross is one of those teams.
They just got away to get it done.
But we're going to find out if they can get it done tonight.
We do know this about Hillgrove.
They opened semis when they knocked off big five county power Wheeler.
So they are here and they are for real.
Let's take a look at who gets them going right now.
Kyle Katz leans forward.
He swings between the two.
Gordon and a forward, and he's a junior and he gets 21 points a game for this team and they really need him.
Have a good game tonight.
Okay.
When you talk about Norcross, of course, you just watch the girls accomplish something.
But the boys ain't bad to you to list the storied names that Jody makes and of course, know Jeremy LAMB and what have you.
They continue to build and build and have had a lot of success.
Herb the last time, of course, in 11, but they have four state championships and they hope to add on in addition to the girls championship and a boys football title, they hope to get a basketball title here tonight.
A lot of hardware in that trophy case.
And I bet they wouldn't mind having Diamond DeShields take the floor for them and lead them into the Dandy point guard.
Here's a Brandon Good.
When he's a six foot guard, he's a senior, gives him a lot of leadership and he got 26 in the semi so he rises in the big occasions and threes the magical number and nobody knows how much important that is.
Then our own Jon Nelson who joins us here tonight, melee break it down for us.
How important is three?
Well, you talk about the number three, Jesse McMillan, if he wins tonight, gets his second championship for Norcross Boys, it would mean that Norcross boys and girls would make the 15th sweep ever in the history of the basketball championships.
But it would be the first time ever in the same academic year that the team from the football championships and the men's and women's basketball championships would get a title.
That's the number three.
It happened in the same calendar year with Wesley in back in 2008.
But if they win tonight, if big Blue gets that Duke, it's going to be the first time in the first academic year that you will have had a team win a football championship.
The boys and the girls, let's see if it happened.
And then, of course, now the Norcross folks may think we've jinxed them.
Let's go ahead and light this candle, guys.
All right.
Let's take a look at the starting lineup brought to you by Region Bank.
It's time to expect more.
We start with Hillgrove, her errant screens are senior guard B.J.
Brown and junior forward Kyle Castle.
And we talked about the junior forward, Johnathan James at Junior Forward and John Franklin Junior four and you see they start four forwards and a guard force couple those guys swing back and forth.
And on the Norcross side they are starting lineup they're starting point to Jaylen take it at guard Brandon Goodwin who we mentioned a senior guard Andre Chatfield going at guard he's a junior Terrence O'Donohue another guy they'll be counting on big time tonight, a senior.
And also Lorenzo Carter, who goes to work inside and also is a football player.
And he has a year remaining there and will play for Steve Maloof next year.
Our keys to success.
We open on up, brought to you by CSG.
Learn more and more.
Hillgrove What's all got to do?
Well, Hill Grove's got to get off to a good start.
Try not to.
We've got our things backwards here, so I'm going to tell you like it is.
But Hill Grove's got to get off to a good start.
Get rid of the jitters of playing in their first state championship.
And again, don't be intimidated by Norcross.
Is history.
You just got to forget about that and just know you're playing another team.
Savor the moment right now.
Norcross side.
What do they have to do here?
Boy?
Well, I would say they got to go to their inside strengths.
They've got power and their use that size and strength.
And also they should have talked to the North Cobb coach because three of the four losses that Hillgrove has gained by five North Cobb Are those schemes of success brought to you by CSG?
Learn more, Earn More referees tonight, Michael Colon of Atlanta, Charles Dunn of Woodstock, and Owen Parris Forrest of Macon.
So we're about ready to tip it off here.
The final games of what has been an outstanding landing three days and I can't say it enough.
The city of Macon and its outstanding community and Middle Georgia has done a phenomenal job.
Oak Grove dressed in Gray and the Laura Cross Blue Devils in the whole white.
We are underway here in Macon.
That's Brandon Goodwin goes over to Pickett.
The good one, the high lob inside the intended Lorenzo Carter but he looks like he got basically clothesline and a low bridged the line a foul You get a look at that Morris the head coach for the Hillbrow Hawks Tyus Jones and Herb they got everybody's attention like we said earlier when they beat Real Yeah I'm sure that because McMillan brought that up to his guys You don't think these guys can play Ash Wheeler the first one Lorenzo Carter up and brought it through six foot six and is an outstanding defensive man on the football team for people from John We'll talk about that a little bit later on He's never thought by everybody on the coast Florida state may have the inside track and walk cross is going to drop back just like they're going to go man to man and scream at the top of the horn and the perimeter right now back to screen and look.
Potassium.
you off the brown turnover and it goes to lower for maybe some of those nerves we talked about.
But look at Jesse McLellan head coach for the North Coast Blue Devils.
And you heard Angie Embry say she's going to be here with the girls to win them all.
And they have a wonderful relationship in terms of being able to partner what they've done to the North crossover.
He'll grow also in a tight man to man program and build a man out of rebounding forward.
The ball's about in the balls on the floor.
That's a good game.
He loses it, but it is touched by the ball goes to play.
So North was retains possession but looks split screen cuts to the rack dipsy do no good the rebound controlled by the hawks and they're going the other way along the baseline and getting cut off with a pass and the miss Carter struggles with it.
It's such a good way to bring it across the table including alley oop.
Alley oop.
No good shot.
She had failed to connect the other way with no real help.
There's been a lot of pressure on you to see that, Alex, and more time to back down and they getting that pressure on the wings.
Nice play.
That's the second time Cross has tried it for you Joy gone back to that got it to screen and it's castling that is frankly not a costly drive over the defender but it was rejected by Carter Go to the other way almost traveling with the basketball and then Luke Hall was picking the job not foul on that play.
I got Goodwin's but win on the foul His first one frustrated after missing the layup to nothing Blue Devils is six eight tied on the line Hillgrove New Kids on the block Norcross been there done that illegal pick Yeah the illegal pick and you're absolutely right here you can see what's up by John Franklin he got that elbow out there probably could have got by with it, but his elbow was way out, away from his body.
His first as a strike was first.
The team's second Godzilla charge, led by the commander, Steve Brown, shot exactly what occurred in that sequence on the wing.
Right now, he's taking it.
It gets the Goodwin who works against screen in the lane and the missed jumper was O'donoghue's and it goes out of bounds and it'll go over to Hillgrove also for four from the field two points courtesy of two free throws That's Carson for the three against happy feet and traffic made a little too little too fast and these just get under control try to let the game come to him a little bit early impressions right now I think it's a little nerves on the road part.
That's why Coach Norris called the timeout, I believe.
I think he sees his stars playing a little fast and his other guys maybe a little out of sync.
So just calm everything down.
But the good news is he's just down three points.
Look inside the huddles.
The North Coast, Blue Devils and Hillgrove right now serves three turnovers.
Missed shot, one blocked shot.
Yeah.
And I think he's probably reminding them also he's going to put pressure on those wings.
Watch out for small chance.
We'll go back to the alley pick it will inbound it Sideline left He gets it in a good one He gets things up gets things going for the Blue Devils.
They run O'Donoghue out.
Hi.
Not a good one on the week trying to get something going off the bounce working against scoring It's an to the free throw line stops the entry pass inside to Carter the wheel around finds Downey on the baseline spin move and call for travel.
I really like Hillgrove.
His defensive principles are fundamentally sound.
They move their feet, they stay squared of the offensive player and they really help out.
And that helps the defense right there is what caused the travel to nothing as a three is first by John Kirkland.
Good looking stroke there.
That's good inside and good for a lot of bodies and a blocking foul will be called on screen.
Watch the spin on this ball.
Perfect rotation and now this player just miss get out there and time on the help defense but they really jump out and help again I'm I'm impressed with their defense because you Jamari Shotwell and see Dre enter the game for the hawks of Hillgrove they have picked up three fouls early though they're going to have to be careful with that.
You have to know about fundamentals and form and all that.
You are great shooting it.
All right.
I thought you were going to say defensive player had great form on my defense.
Said you did everything right.
It's a little bit it's going to take a break and make him 409 in the first early on.
He'll grow up one.
We'll be right back after this back here in Macon.
Taking a look outside, Nate has fallen here in middle Georgia as we approach a 1015 Eastern, let's take a look at the road to the championship brought to you by Georgia EMC lighting the way for the Hill Grove Hawks, where they took South Georgia Power, Valdosta, then Tri-Cities Brunswick.
And of course, that big win over Wheeler and the road to the championship for Norcross.
Wow.
Look at that call.
And Lambert 8124.
It shows you what Norcross can do when they're cookin.
Took care of Archer Bert Moore in North Cobb, who beat Hillgrove three times this year, could be significant at road to the championships brought to you by Georgia EMC, a lighting way.
Get a shot of Jesse McMillan for the Blue Devils and they trailed right now three two early on for three six in the opening three of Southwell and that's PJ Brown to Ray to south row bobbing up and taking a jumper no good was Castle to rebound taken down by Norcross good way ahead to Chatfield and the miss off the run go the other way backing out in free but the hops try to get going and it have both sets its way and the pull up and the miss was BJ Brown out of bounds you know what I hear the music is so sneakers and you know guys are working hard on defense when you hear those sneakers squeaking from the across the front door to the Hawks will retain possession they try to trap south low to no avail and a bailout jumper by PJ Brown in the lane a good look of the building the other way off the trail and off class and just barreling into the defender.
It's tough you and he'll get called for an offensive foul or a lot of control I'm telling you what against a good defensive team that plays good positions, you can't do that move.
Goodwin Goodwin gave it to him in a spot.
He really couldn't do anything but charge.
So maybe not a good decision by the little guard.
Some horrid shooting numbers.
Early on, Hillgrove, one of six from the field Norcross pulled for five.
That's where we stand right now.
It's three two.
And don't let me forget, no prospect of a defensive team, too.
I'm not taking anything away from the long jumper and getting the bounces the way a three to go, six to help open the Hawks get the steal.
But stolen right back from the Blue Devils in transition is Goodwin the double clutch hit He is hacked in the act by Ray play starting to pick up her now let's see the block here Well actually a foul got the ball and then got it with the right time You come down like that and that's the fourth foul on Hillgrove So Goodwin will be at the line established early and good Johnathan James reenters the basketball huge John Franklin exits stage left.
When you play defense like these guys you're going to have to have some subs coming in through there.
So then when my second opportunity up and just six corner from the wing and I was airball by Ray and a bounce and it goes to the Norcross shot.
Yeah he forced that one.
I like to get the double screen up there at the top of the kid, either work off the picks or take the shot right off the bat and he probably, for the weight of the talent, is a two man game and between one plus on the trail ties it up at six first tie of this basketball game as well as in the opening game the block and more cross in transition Goodwin to the hole loses it off his knee turnover and adjusting overall so he runs this was the first field goal for Norcross on this Goodwin Dipsy doo off the glass and credit Terrence O'Donohue with the nice handoff and here's Norris telling his guys they're not they're settling for bad shots the last two times now make sure you got a good shot.
You don't have the forces itself They to 62 backs it out to Carson Hardcastle the third set averaging 21.6 left looks at his man and that was way it was almost stolen away so.
GUILFOYLE For a game possession and that was Southwell with the bailout 8 to 6, the Hawks and that spread motion offense with 1000.
And is that something they're not going to have anywhere to go down A to CARTER But look how that's working Madison nice ball movement by Norcross there to find the open man the three makes it 98 under a minute here and make him all still in the way they came over close to us.
Are we a little nervous?
The double team doesn't accomplish anything, so Hillgrove will back it up.
40 seconds to go.
I don't think they're hanging for one, but they're looking for a good one.
Sexton is going to go for one.
Looks like shot in the forehead.
On a positive note, when you're a newcomer in a big game, you've got to believe they're looking for Kessler and also screen the dribble penetration and then the kick to get their offense.
Set it up in motion at 11.
And sexy good switching by North Carolina and the south well on the jumper was good and we're going to get a bullpen now Livingston one basket pass one heads up play in the first quarter will talk about Giannis on this spot and it was a positive in the first quarter and that's big for a team that's playing in their first championship game And Norcross looks solid.
Here we go Herb take us through well nice block But Kessler with Johnny on the spot heads up and we got the goaltending call at the end of the first quarter ten nine here make Macon we're ready to start the second half.
It is very important messages on Georgia Public Broadcasting Bill Yes.
Now down All right we've cleared 110 nine started the second leading scorers for Hillgrove Ray with three and Franklin John Franklin with three and for Norcross Brandon good when he has four to lead the Blue Devils in scoring.
Herb, take us through what we saw at the end of the first period.
Here's Southwell goes up with the shot.
It's blocked, Catlin gets it and he gets it up on the backboard ball has not gone in before the clock goes off, but the shot had gone up before the clock goes off and there was a goal ten So it was good.
The goal turned on a O'Donoghue and they credited with the basket catch for Kessler.
So that makes it ten nine start of the second and Norcross four for four from the charity stripe.
And that's really what's kept him tied up almost with Hillgrove so far Sexton will inbound it right in front of our table position here and they're making Kelly's same center plays All right half court trap now by Norcross there's a little pressure Sexton is able to split it screen in the corner two sets to the bells and now before the corner well behind the back assist found Sexton in the corner.
Pretty nifty walking looking on Goodwin who was clearly irritated getting in the lane Nelly after the end of the first quarter, spent time in both huddles on the Hillgrove side.
They wanted to be more selective in choosing their jump shots.
They thought that they were rushing a lot of them in the first quarter.
For Jesse McMillan in the Norcross side, they came up with a stat that said that they were 4 to 1 in 5050 balls, meaning Hillgrove was getting to those 5050 balls more than Norcross.
Jesse McMillan says his defense is too good to have that happen.
So he's got to clamp down on that second quarter, guys.
John, thank you.
And you saw the points off turnovers, but it's putting Hillgrove right now, eight nil and they have the basketball in a half court of sections in the lane cut off from space over to James that is screaming trying to rub his man off on a pitch.
Well for the re and launching one in the lane was Ray pretty good movement there after the could have been a block but he made it look like a foul.
Let's take a look at the fouls on Madison on the reach right there Got him on the you got him on the wrist.
A little extra effort by some way.
We'll get to Bernstein The coach McMillan went to that motor to trap maybe trying to get a little more movement.
He felt like he wasn't coming up with the loose balls and he put that in there to get his guys moving a little more on ball.
Well, he knocks down the seven and will make it 14 to 9.
The lead of five over on a six point run right back.
And they stay straight up man to man double from there have four assists weaving around his kicking thing They got Sexton really going with the hip I'm sorry they got Ray it's quite good when Goodwin kind of slip but Ray didn't bump Franklin reports back in he's ready to take the seats with one three for the quarter to Madison now to go to win for the rack against contact Carter try to follow little bit of struggle and see when he and Franklin had the ultimate possession Good call by the official it looked like the Norcross player was over back but they both came down with the ball in front of him.
And then Hillgrove player turn and that put Norcross behind them back the position very similar throw something inbounds that's good one getting in in a madison set to take it off stolen away by a stumbling Jordy Sexton gets the former's and they got Madison on a foul and not a good foul by Madison don't reach in when the man's dribbling the ball up the floor beat him back down the floor Madison court on the reach and that's five fouls on Norcross now Sexton going down right in front of us as you can see from our eye camera here at the Michigan Policy that Sexton's in the win against Carter.
Carter came over the top.
Good job by Sexton.
He kicked a seven for the 12 footer right there on the free throw line, but he put his head down and took another couple of power dribbles.
And he definitely got the body from both Madison and Carter with their but they got Carter.
And so number 22 is Carter not afraid of the contact?
Sexton The first opportunity, but that's 6000.
Norcross One more and we'll have the bonus from Hillgrove.
That's a long time in the early second quarter to have the one and one if it comes sooner.
I know a whole group of these people are watching right now in Tuscaloosa probably connected with those results and opinions right now.
My motto on online, on Twitter 16 and on the hearts of Hillgrove out in front good Goodwin across the timeline line pass on the right side to pick it that's just perfectly played defense right there watching it three and the miss was O'Donohue and the Hawks with the rebound will go the other way Let's catch him to the run Sweet move there He's kind of settled in.
He was rushing things early on.
Now he's letting the game come to him.
18 to 9.
No throws means they get a couple hoots.
They go on a ten point run.
So no, look, Joe Donahue, the far away, no good.
And the Hawks with a rebound and pushing it up the floor screen to the rack goes back to the guy who hadn't shown that up at the basket.
He looked like he knew he was going to get fouled.
He got two shots, but he's going to get the one and one because that's seven fouls on Norcross and Kalyn pick it for three.
He was going to shoot.
He just lost it.
Seven and three.
And your calls right now, five possessions in the second quarter for up to four miss shots, two turnovers.
Well, they haven't been taking that one good look from outside, but the other shots had been that good.
And they will look a little discombobulated right now for the first two.
Then nobody is saying here goes is a team that used to be in here because they really settled in for the first time tonight, the lead in double digits, our largest at 1019.
And I 513 at halftime taking advantage of the lead malone's to 1120 to 9.
And listen to this crowd loving the Hillsboro Hawks pretty good representation from Cobb County down here in making this evening.
And boy, it's been great seeing the crowds here this weekend, Gail.
I mean, we've had some really, really great crowds take a trip around the great state of Georgia and Georgia, traveling from the mountains to the coast, our traveling team Explore explores the state's most beautiful, exciting, unique treasures.
Don't miss Georgia travelers with that gentleman.
He gets it done every time he goes at David Zaleski, having a whole lot of fun.
A phenomenal human being.
He's been hosting that show for years now.
Georgia Traveler.
It's on us Fridays at 8:00 Eastern.
Is that the stock car doing the 360?
I'm sure Love was impressed on that zip line.
He's hanging out with the Panthers.
He's a man of all.
That's why they call it the travel, because he's a traveler, man for fans and to quarterbacks is to send it down to fade away.
No this only works on controlled by the Hawks go.
They worked it for a good shot.
You could see that was a play.
That's just him and no one calls it Let's get it inside.
They got about a four foot look and couldn't get it to go down hill.
Drove with 11 points off the turnover, spotting up and launching a three ball and it is no good.
And that was frankly to go across the other way and falling to the floor in transition was Brandon Goodwin Yep.
Goodwin the force in the issue right there with 21 but it's a good call this is second team they got Johnathan James on the blocking foul his second steal also check again 34 That's six fouls now on hill rose next to be the bonus 004 35 in the second quarter O'Donohue the wheel around throws it up in the air like an elevator shaft and we have a whistle and a stoppage of play on the pass His third pass one for the foul his first took out of you and it was headed to the College of Charleston at the line first opportunity is good.
He's recruited by a lot of mid-majors here.
They like his length.
Yeah.
This is a good looking athlete.
boy.
College of Charleston with a new coach.
Now, their old buddy, Bobby Crimmins, is coming up.
Just a great local.
They have a great arena.
that's a great area.
Been over Charleston several times.
They've got a great campus and a lot of great restaurants and a true 11.
That's about it.
You have the steel, the spin and nice and very nice and very athletic for low 20 to 13, he might have hurt himself.
Those blue Devils pull within seven.
The shot has altered their world loses a good one the other way has numbers on the wing and landed up and in in transition was Kalen Pickett Hogan in O'Donohue was hurt I think he hurt his knee when he spun a moment ago either isn't he or his ankle has a real quick power spin center in that left knee.
Maybe it's a cramp.
We can hope it's a friendly television timeout and the medical staff at Norcross attending to him right now.
You see it right there.
Boxes, please.
The 20 to 15, the Blue Devils on a mini run right now and make him courtesy number 15, headed to the College of Charleston, where they eat.
We get Herb on the wheel around.
You'd never know it there Hillgrove up by five.
We'll be right back and make it after this.
but we're taking a look right now at Terrence O'Donoghue.
What did you see?
Well, I didn't see him really hurt him.
Didn't look like he hurt himself coming down.
But once he crossed half court, he was You started being in pain, You could tell, because he really pulled up lame.
And and they're checking the stability of that left knee.
They've been working on it.
Medical medical staff at Norcross attending to him.
Right.
Take another look.
He was really going hard.
And he's a big guy, really planted on that left leg.
He got around Castle one and was able to lay it up.
And in him right there, he's pretty good for now and then pulls up.
Yeah right point self turnovers stats right now 11 for Hillgrove four for Norcross Norcross kept this double digit lead down to five take it out of trouble Correct That was screen out of goal those are going to be great running back after screen like no crosses no zone.
Yeah they did find some very good defenses.
They went half court trap for a while and now they're in a23 rose groves just got to have patience screen and company trying to figure it out surround the screen and he is met by Goodwin and also take it threat from the corners at that place it the turnover Norcross benefits Brandon 20 to 17 the lead now down to three Brown in the corner and the Miss by Franklin Norcross again with nothing and that's Sheffield on the other end Great look ahead And Norcross got the juices flowing.
Now Blue Devils have gone back in this basketball game and now down one and on a ten point run right now at zone is really bothering them.
Herb There you go.
That's where you want to get it inside out, trying to work it screen wanted to take it, but instead back that he gave it to B.J.
Brown and he took it and knocked it down.
Good patience by Hill Grove basket for them.
23 to 9.
Wow.
Three.
Wow.
What a play Pass.
And the beneficiary was Chris Herndon and I think by the Hornets, you try to look at this.
This is just a beautiful, beautiful find right there.
Bingo.
That's why I just say McMillan loves Brandon Goodwin so much as eyes in the back of his head.
Great vision, great awareness for presence of mind and the dish, The Miss Three by Chesterfield and a Whistle.
Herb, what do you see right now?
Well, we knew Norcross was a safety.
You know, we know they're a quality team.
Got a great tradition.
They got a great coach, they got good players.
You knew they were going to get back in this ballgame.
And Hillgrove just got to weather the storm a little bit.
They got a big jump shot a moment ago.
With the little patience.
They got to realize they still got the lead right now and just continue to play the way they have taken a little bit better care of the basketball.
The foul 73 to the line.
This team leads by two.
They now lead by three bad fouled out on here with just over a thousand by the backboard and put them on the line and give them two points right in the middle here in the run just takes the momentum the other way the junior perfect form knocks it down 25 to 21 shot through the football couple down the quarter surround it gets inside and then a tough rebound control by those who go the other way.
Good strong move walking in across the timeline right now So Larry Southwell tries to get pregnant and lose him, but doesn't they go over to B.J.
Brown, three, potentially the leading scorer at 21 points, a game back man to man.
Norcross like it changed those defenses up and stole it away and took it all the most out of it in and one cardinal sin don't give the guy the lay up and the foul.
One of the other things the speed of Jalen Pickett ahead of everybody Carson with an angle just to no avail.
Great heads up anticipation by Pickett left his man and came over made the clean steal take it an opportunity to complete a three point play It's now a one point game.
It'll be an emotional thing if Norcross can get back in the lead before halftime after trial in this game, most of this ballgame.
So.
And conversely, if Hillgrove can keep the lead, they'll go in with a little confidence at halftime.
So right, 50 seconds left.
Let's see what happens here.
Thomas Cameron in and Andre Chatfield out replacement for Norcross right now 2524 under a minute back in the zone they change it up it's beautiful Herb White likes it yeah that's why they got that steal a moment ago, because they'd had a man to man Zone before Grove was looking through the zone and it was going to be the last man to man.
Yeah.
See how much time we have until the break?
And surprise, Norcross didn't put more pressure on him at South Wall.
Brown again.
Got to go south.
Run in the lane.
The runner off glass no good the rebound control by Cameron and that's the end of the first half with the score on to Millbrook 25 and Norcross 24/3.
The first score for your screen on the pass one for once and Jon Nelson with that Morris gentleman every game it starts and stops.
You got the first big run got him on the board and you're holding them off here at the first half.
Well, they got a lot of transition there.
We got in the second quarter and we got to do a better job in transition, know our kids are playing hard.
They're doing a good job right now.
And yeah, we just got to come out and do the same thing a second half.
Obviously with the experience you guys got against a perennial power like Wheeler, not really intimidated by your surroundings here in the first 16 minutes.
Well, you kids have done that all year.
They've just shown toughness and they've been able to do a good job in this kind of environment, you know, all the credit to our kids.
So thanks for your time, coach.
Thank you, Senator, for the best seat in the house in Mark Harmon, John Nelson, thanks very much for getting ready for the JB halftime show.
Coming up, we'll talk to both principals.
Warm up, first half stats, first half highlights.

You brought a lot of fans along.
There is we had a lot of people come down for the game.
We're very excited about that.
We're excited about what our team is doing.
I think we could have played this game in Istanbul and we would have had a bunch of kids and teachers and everybody's down here, so it's a lot of fun.
It's a environment.
Now, you were telling me off air it's also prom night.
Some of those prom night people are watching on GPB, too.
That was the plan.
I hope so.
I hope they are watching.
They were very excited.
You know, So I hope they are watching it on at the prom as well.
What was the vibe in the classrooms this week?
Because everybody I mean, this is the first time you guys have been to the championship.
This got to be a lot of excitement.
A lot of excitement a lot of excitement.
And what they're really excited about is this is a great group of young men.
They're good in the classroom, they're good in the community.
So it's easy to cheer for them.
And our students really got behind them and it's been a great vibe.
It really has been a lot of fun this week.
All right.
Time to play that game.
Are you smarter than your students?
A question from our Today in Georgia History project.
So the question is, thanks to Jesse Jewell, Gainesville is known as the jewel capital of the world.
B, not Atlanta.
C the about a quarter mile high city or D the poultry capital of the world.
I'm going to go with the chicken on that.
I think the poultry capital of the world will go with D You're absolutely right.
Congratulations and good luck here in the second half.
Thank.
And minutes away from Atlanta, too, where we hope and thanks for your support of high school sports.
We appreciate it and we appreciate that.

And now let's check in with Kat and Grace one more time.
Hey, Mark, you know what?
It's been a great three days of high school basketball, but some of the real story has been happening online fans, not just here in Georgia, but from all across the country, have been tweeting and sending messages about what they've been seeing online.
Isn't that right?
Great.
That is exactly right.
I've been telling you to tell me where you're watching the game from.
It is available in so many places all around the world, literally on the Web.
So I'm going to know where you're watching from.
I just talked to Daniel, Alex.
He says, Proud Hillgrove.
I'm watching the Georgia Boys basketball championship here from Fort Wainwright Army base in Alaska, all the way in Alaska.
He's watching his team play for the state championship.
It's awesome that he can be able to see it from so far away.
So I've been talking to people like that all throughout the championships, and we also have a lot going on on Facebook as well.
We've got so many photos, these student sections, the Hillgrove and the Norcross student sections have brought their A-game tonight.
I've been taking so many pictures with them.
They're all on the Facebook.
So go check it out and be a part of the action on Facebook, on Twitter.
You know what?
We gave Mohawk Nation a little bit of love earlier.
I think we need to show Norcross a little bit of love, too, don't you think?
I think so, too.
There's those blue Devils over there.
I mean, they've been here two games in a row.
They have just sprained their hearts out.
They have all season long.
And I know all football season long, tons of state championships on their way.
So, you know, proud of that sin section.
Well, I want my picture with Norcross as well, but we're going to send it back over to you, Mark, as soon as I get my picture.
Let me just say, you two ladies have done a great job for about the last 12, 13, 14 hours covering that social media scene.
You've done an excellent job.
Well done.
We're at halftime of the Boys six, eight games we now welcome been the principal of Norcross High School Will Bishop who's making return trips.
Your girls got it done.
What's it like over in the seats?
it's great.
I tell you, those girls that worked so hard this year, that very talented group.
But they couldn't have done it without their hard work.
And honestly, playing together as a team, you know, as a principal, what's it like to watch your students host that trophy on the stand up?
Well, I'll tell you, it's a lot of fun and it's a whole lot easier than pacing up and down the sideline and things like that, because it sure is nerve wracking to watch.
But I'll tell you, it makes us really proud, all of us here at the school and in the community now, the boys are out there.
They're just one point down.
Anything can happen in the second half as you guys go for the football girls, basketball boys basketball trifecta.
Absolutely.
And I'll tell you, at the end of that second half, it looked like we were pulling things together.
So good things.
Hopefully in the second half we'll come out of that.
You know, it's really been a great year.
There's the girls right there.
I mean, it's really been an exciting time for you guys at Norcross.
Has it?
Has It really has.
And it's neat.
In our hallways, all of our kids are really enjoying what's going on.
And really it's, you know, you see in the classroom, too.
All right, it's time to play that game.
Are you smarter than your students?
A question from our Today in Georgia History project.
And your question is Joanne Woodward shot to stardom after she won an Oscar at the age of 27?
Which film earned her the Best Actress award in 1958?
Was it A, the face of B, B, The two faces of Eve.
See the three Faces of Evil or D, Who's evil?
I think she had three faces.
Saga with C, All right.
You're a movie buff.
Well, a little bit.
All right, Well, listen, thanks very much.
Good luck out of second half.
Thanks so much.
Okay.

The game And this message was brought to you by the technical college system of Georgia.
But you know what?
People can go to t. S h g dot edu for more.
Sounds good.
Sounds good.
Now, you know, we've been here since 11:00 this morning.
We've got one more half to play.
16 minutes.
You ready for this?
I am ready.
I am ready.
This is it.
All right.
The final half of this year's state championship is coming up next.
It is the boys six day state championship game, Hills Road and North Hillgrove with a one point lead as they head in the final 16 minutes.
Stay with state back here in making our scored 25 to 24 the Hillgrove hawks over the Norcross Blue Devils right now the six eight state championship on the line four boys Gill Tyree Herb White take us through the first half we have highlights of this basketball game.
Hurry up And you know it was a game of runs because Hillgrove dropped out to the jumped out to a big lead and then the Norcross Blue Devils came on a run.
But before we get the highlights, we'll take a look at the stats right now courtesy of our good friends at the Farm Bureau of Georgia.
What jumps out at you over what was a one point game?
Everything's pretty tight.
The rebounds a little bit in Hill Grove's favor.
Both teams shoot in free throws, excellently nine turnovers, a little bit of the difference there, but basically a toss up as far as the stats with both teams And Keith Ray, the leading scorer right now for nine for Oak Grove and Brandon Goodwin with six.
And these are the highlights of the 18 foot jumper comes Goodwin taking it all the way to the rack but it's the defense here's a play go O'Donohue who got hurt on the right you said he looked good running back up to he got the hand bought by John with a possible medical update on O'Donohue Nellie as a guys I talked to Jesse McMillan briefly before he went into the huddle to try to get things squared away for the third quarter, gave him the half time stat sheet.
The biggest thing he looked at and shook his head was the rebounding numbers.
That was one of his three keys for the game was to control the boards.
He's not doing that.
He's not happy about that right now.
Your update on O'Donohue.
They tried to fit him with a brace late second quarter.
It wasn't working out.
So at the half they went into the locker room, taped him up three, taped him, put the brakes on him, and so now he's good to go third quarter.
Let's just see how that knee holds up.
Well, he was struggling just moments ago, moving laterally and he's in the huddle right now.
So let's see how he goes.
Well, early on, McMillan wants to control the boards.
Don O'Donohue, who would be a big part of that.
He's an excellent rebounder, but I've got my doubts.
He's looking mighty tentative right now.
There's a player got hurt on this.
He's going against Cassel one more time, he said.
Left leg.
He's kind of twisted it a little bit.
You can see it twist just a little.
He felt it right there and tried to run it off.
And now it really kind of grabs him as he gets to half court.
And the one thing you don't want to do is take a chance on further injury.
He's got a college and you saw the graphic, had it to the College of Charleston.
And he's a tough kid and he's going to want to continue.
But he is a big piece of what Norcross is trying to do.
He's maybe really tentative on that.
Things Look at that stander, boys.
Wow.
Fast break points.
And that was at the close of the first half.
And the Blue Devils hope to build on that trailing by one heading into the final 60 minutes.
Who's going to take home at six eight title, a final title here, part of championship weekend, an outstanding three days here, making spot up three and three in it right now it's Kessler O'donoghue's playing that top spot on the zone.
And right there he couldn't get over to get it to get him in position to stop the shot.
A liability defensively could be.
And Coach McMillan recognizing that Ricky Madison off the bench quickly and look for O'Donoghue who has the floor and throws it away That's only 2025 yeah Madison And right now they're going to sit him down here.
Yeah I'd be surprised if we see him again because that thing's really going to stiffen up now.
And that's really tough blow for that kid.
And the Norcross Blue Devils walking across the timeline is Castle one who hit that three for Hillgrove to put him up for wheeling around the horn and scoring nice defense man up his painted screen able to get away get away with the ball away and helping him out this castle working against Madison slips but no calls and gives it to Brown Wow No fall away in the lane.
No good good win with it for Norcross.
We go the other way.
A spot of three the miss and the rebound by Goodwin up and in and the follow by Madison after that wouldn't be the first time we've seen a guy come off the bench to replace somebody get hurt and step up.
And that's what Madison did on his first trip down the floor on offense this year.
The one shot and of course, Madison, the opportunity to complete a three point play to make this a one point game and he does 28 to 27 coach Rick having the presence of mind to recognize that O'Donoghue was a defensive liability, got Madison in there quickly because he didn't want this game to get away from him.
Right?
Well, he plays out there in the front and he just can't have the mobility to stay with those three guys.
We saw during the start of the third quarter struggling, moving laterally, try to give it a go.
But it wasn't to be in the half, said his passing.
Working it gets Madison they try to rub off on the screen Still Castle went to the rack no to a follow up No good ball on the floor.
Brown a fall away no good staying with it and just pounding the glass was John Franklin and we have a foul on Madison.
And Jesse McMillan threw his arms up in the air and flailing is just what is going on out there on our defensive board.
I don't have him on the sidelines.
Franklin for two and they see it as good.
That would be impressed by both these teams.
They take it big when they get fouled.
They go to the charity stripe and they convert and I love to see it.
The second one by Franklin is good as well what?
3227 556 in the first six eight titles Boys Lacrosse against Hell bro.
Glad to have you with us here on GPB.
And looking at a quarter to take you out to Madison on the drive to give us the lane opened up and he took advantage of it 3229 Getting a chance to play taking the most, making the most of it by scoring nine of ten for his oak grove, eight of eight for Norcross calls pulling away on a turnover.
Norcross brings it across the time line.
That's good Again, try to get it in the car.
As he spun it back to his defender, Barnes throws it up no good.
And we got a whistle and a foul.
But give Carter the presence of mind to clear it up and try to go down to Carter.
Here's a low point being called for the foul.
His second, just a few charity stripe numbers, but it's about as good as it gets.
Hillgrove did have nine turnovers at the half and they have another one now.
So they've got to they've got to take care of that basketball a little bit better.
George Norcross, well capitalized reserve, bringing in some more size teeth.
Ray coming in now.
Ready for Norcross win for Mobile.
Not upset Carter Little bit down the block and Pickett coming in the corner It's the second time the game is you're going to see a few more I've got a few 131 zone now three blocking out.
It's about the fourth different defense that Norcross has used in passing trying to get his his guys in a position to make plays and support him out driving the latest round of follow up and by John Franklin who was Johnny on this one smart play by Hill Girls.
They just look we're looking to see what kind defense that was.
I saw it was a different look.
Cashman took his time and they got a nice shot.
Goodwin ball stolen away, third row ahead of the pack and laying up and in off the steal the screen 34 to 30 Goodwin back for Norcross spins to Carter the open look and knocking it down on the lane was Andre Chatfield that's Hill Grove's first fast break basket of the night 34 to 33.
Like Herb White said, fasten your seatbelts.
We got a good Gooden here in Macon.
You see, they can play the passing lanes with this one, three one.
It's not a trap in 131 clear opening but the ball is stolen away.
Ahead of the pack is Goodwin.
They're laying across takes the lead 35 to 34 Southwell off the bench for Hill Grove about ready to reenter this basketball game that screen double team struggling with it no call almost stolen screen again on the wing to CARSEN back out to screen on the perimeter the blue devils tucked into that zone and bothering the Hawks big time brown fakes.
The three goes over the screen.
That's brown.
That's good again, really good.
Patience by Hill Grove found the open and converted B.J Brown on the runner is Goodwin and he gets the bounce the friendly by Goodwin takes his personal and Hillgrove scores.
He likes to come down and answer himself on the penetration crosses made their last four shots in a row.
We're not at up at 37 it's a try to rub off think it on a screen he stays with his his man going inside his castle and the rejected Madison with a hand on it.
But let's stop and wait the fence of play by Ray and our camera man took a hit down there.
He sure did.
I think that's where they got the foul because it looked like a good block on the ball called the foul on our cameraman, Forrest Calloway, in a price.
Yeah, I didn't see a foul there but there was serious a lot of action for some guys.
We have a very good basketball game here in the third quarter 37 where we run in Macon after this tied at 37 Hillgrove and Norcross 206 to go in the third Nelly.
All right I've got two injury updates.
Which one do you want first Chris Callaway Chris Callaway is okay He's day to day.
Aren't we all?
He's back in the game.
The other one with O'Donohue after he was tape coming out for the third quarter, you say he was having problems with the Sports Medicine South staff brought out the massage from the locker room, put it out by the Zamboni entrance back behind everything.
It was closer to our production truck and they tried to work that neat in about 13 different directions.
He's obviously back out here now.
We'll see what his mobility is because of how that new take shop was with the brace.
And that's the big issue now with O'Donoghue.
Let's see how he's adapted.
Know Callaway is fine.
He's a gamer.
No problem over there.
Okay.
John talking about the Zamboni.
John, a hockey fan in his own right.
They're making whoopee sell them Believe that besides way back there, I could use it at halftime.
And let's see if Chris Callaway can convert the free throws.
Now he's a gamer.
He used to have ice.
There's Chris taking one for the team.
Chris Just part of the outstanding crew, men and women.
you're right.
About to come in here early in the morning and set it up for us and make it look so easy and can't thank them enough.
It's an unbelievably down day.
Yes, I'm worn out all in two games.
These guys are all day long and they do it because they love it.
They don't even get paid.
Well, that's part of the culture.
You got to have passion to exactly 38 to 37.
The Blue Devils by one, coaching a minute and a half, going down the lane and the shot with your judgment.
Mark Carter, Madison Campbell Try to go down the lane and Madison go.
Figures for me looked like it was going to go in a late leap and Carter got that one and Madison lost his balance and drew the foul.
Madison coming over the top of PJ Brown, who was on the floor of this possession of a single yeah, the circus shot up and and right 39 and 38 first zone we've seen that on a hillgrove this evening but 1637.
We're not the balls knocked out of bounds but the Blue Devils will still have possessions going around inside the sideline left.
Let's see if they use their size get the ball in Madison in the middle or take it with Goodwin down the road where he did exactly that.
He urged Urban York.
Exactly.
And he converts the basket that makes it 4239 South low to brown.
It looks away on the perimeter over to Franklin and they get into that motion offense.
Brown on the baseline the fourth no good Carter Fox for the rebound and it goes to low across good work I had the runner short this is why we like Brendan Goodwin so much he wants the conversion and he took it to the hoop again just now.
No fear there kind of a late whistle there.
It was like the ball was in play on the shot I think all the time.
Sexton Use the ball to be drilled in Sexton's first Brendan Goodwin on the line.
Two effort to see his numbers 12 points to us just four rebounds and a steal but a catalyst for the Blue Devils here tonight.
What Goodwin has done is every time he'll go he scored a basket and tried to get out.
Goodwin has come down and in most of the time scored on his own breaking into the rack list.
The first thing he'll get to do over is the basically he's prevented Hillgrove from going on in the long runs by answering just about every time.
Chris Herndon in right the Red Cross and the 35 that went up and it's the 41 that's 39 points, 45 seconds out of South surprise wins by Chris Sexton.
It works against to Sexton doubled up in the corner and struggles with it.
Carter twisted it away and we have a stoppage in play with a horrible defense about can't pick your dribble up in the corner and boy he was a dead man walking when he got trapped in that corner.
Herb you don't want that's a no no.
Yeah.
And you know, I believe Norcross is going to start taking advantage of their size inside.
I just get the feeling that there is going to be a little stronger here in the second half with the inside power.
But let's just keep an eye on it.
That's just a feeling I'm giving to us.
We'll have the basketball and wait and probably work it down to the last shot at the end of the third.
Let's check for you.
Hey, I got a good one three deep in the corner, No good.
And the follow up?
No good ball on the floor, bodies everywhere.
And that's going to end the third quarter.
This.
You've got to be kidding me, Herb.
This is going to be an outstanding fourth quarter straight ahead, six eight total on the line, 4139.
The Blue Devils by two.
We'll be right back and make it after these very important messages on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
started to flirt here in Georgia, your first 41 drove 39 and North was led by that outstanding point guard, Brandon and Herb.
This is why a lot of mid-majors are looking at this young man.
Yeah, he's really a tough little competitor.
He knows how to finish around the basket.
Like I said, he's tough mentally because Hillgrove was trying to get out a few times, make a little run and good just takes it on himself to answer.
Taking it to the basket So a little player likes to initiate contact.
There you see the Alfred Southern, this Georgia state, Middle Tennessee, the north eastern was bad, not bad.
And we've got a little bit here's why.
The game's even turnovers.
Hillgrove has 12 turnovers.
Norcross eight, but Hillgrove has 18 rebounds.
The North is 14 and it's kind of evened out.
That's kind of evened out our score.
So we've got anybody's ballgame right here, just like you want it to start the fourth quarter.
DIEHL Andre Chatfield inbounds it to the man we just talked about moments ago, Brandon Goodwin.
Let's take a look for just looking on the right side.
It's Goodwin That's Madison on the place up no good.
And we have a lot that's Carter Carter coming over the top.
So he's done all right.
They can ill afford to lose Carter after losing O'Donohue three fouls on the big guy 41 to 39 passing and struggling with it goes over the way to Brown gray again Sexton to Brown a three foot and a man right in his face.
And Dre 42 to 41 South Philly launches off the miss.
The rebound is controlled by Ray a strong rebound by Ray but it's Carter right beside him dazzling over to Sexton, an energetic crowd here in the Macon Coliseum.
Final game.
It's been a razor's edge all night long between these two teams.
Early on, Hillgrove tried to shake and shake free, but Norcross has come back and had a run.
And right now, so Hillgrove enjoying a one point lead good one to the hole and the lay and good for 43 to 42.
Great job of Goodwin protecting that ball until he laid it off the glass.
I guess that's why Coach McMillan him so much has big confidence in that dump an awesome pass and I think they're going to get past Lin No doubt he pushed off of the forearm again he's trying to force the action a little bit where is the elbow Right there.
Caught the act and that's four fouls gasoline and he's the go to guy.
He's got to play under control.
Beasley Goodwin you come across the time line the double went against Sexton that's going make it 3045 to 42 Blue Devils up by three They're going to answer this If this is such a tight ball game you don't want this lead to get out to five or six points.
Sexton shakes Madison off balance, runs into his own man.
Both guys fall on the floor and Jonathan James is thinking another lightning quick guard Norcross has got a tandem took a hit numbers don't lie and I don't have to this point I think they're going to win it down low with their strength and also with the driving ability of their guards, or at least it's looking a little bit like that.
And that's the without.
O'DONOGHUE to just pick him struggling in the lane and Dix just gets it Go on, fake it all.
So his momentum shifts.
Right?
He's going to get a timeout, try to get his guys together and the lead five the Blue Devils.
Now five take it and Goodwin then we see this sack last night Very similar in Miller Grove very similar with pick Me You remember this in 2011.
Herb is going to take it down memory lane.
He doesn't to.
I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, but yes, this was a textbook.
I'll give all an upset.
It's a four point ball game time winding down and Milton heavily favored in this one.
You're right.
And Norcross let the celebration begin And we've talked about some of the alma mater dramatic fashion of Norcross Jeremy LAMB quickly comes to mind went to won a state championship and also went to UConn won a state championship.
Jodie lets you know what he did at Kentucky he'll play with the Lakers now bride went on to Philadelphia and then signed with the L.A. Lakers as a free agent.
Big trip down the floor.
Let's see what Coach Norris might have set up a set play to get a good look here.
Shots far working against Gordon James over the way for Brown.
Got it, man.
man.
Brown with a man in his face with that.
Hi, Rainbow three.
A thing of Beauty.
47 to 40 5 to 43.
In Regulation.
Take it.
Good with Madison.
Good G Back outside the double play defense by Southwell.
Good.
Straight over to the dumbfounded Carter back out inside game by three who throw good man boy you're kidding good would do it yes he is 50 to 40 5a3 answered by a three.
In the corner is screen.
Maintain your composure.
Getting trapped gets it out.
Turay to Brown thought about it and then decided not 349 I'm counting down Good job by hill, bro.
That's a nice move to back it back out, not rush, of course, has made that last four shots in a row.
Well, it's against three no good airball.
The rebound is controlled by Goodwin to the rack follows.
Yes, that's Madison 32 to 45.
Norcross Brown a three in his face.
The shot was altered rebounder taken down by Norcross and the person of Jaylin pick it to Goodwin for a carry and we have to call for charity.
Well, I'll tell you what.
First, what I've seen in college, your high school call this year and did I tell you a little while ago I had a feeling.
Yes, you could just kind of sense it in the Norcross was going to try to assert themselves with their well, with Goodwin, of course, and then with the power inside on the follow the rookie Madison on a follow.
And you know we we got to talk about you know McMillan when Coach McMillan brought in Madison to replace O'Donoghue.
So Madison gave him a lot of energy.
Yes, he did.
Yes, he did.
He got a couple of quick baskets and picked his team up and Norcross is just showing you they're a veteran team and they know how to win.
They waited for their moment.
And Hillgrove is right now is looking a little bit lost.
They haven't been here before.
It's a big stage.
You want to bring in John Nielsen to the conversation because it's always kind of a loaded question for Herb.
I know, but you think about what's been going on with Norcross having won 15 on the road to get to this point.
They had to wait later to bring in the football players.
Then HILLGROVE Hillgrove got there football players earlier in the basketball season to get to this point.
So Hill Grove's offense was integrated faster than Norcross was.
And remember, O'Donohue was injured.
It took him a while to get to full song.
And so now you have a healthy Norcross squad.
You're seeing the results here.
Fourth quarter, three point, John.
And we talked about that last night with the red elephants of Gainesville, how they were able to get it easier after they waited for the football guys over that state championship run as they defeated.
We're counting in the budget.
Well, that's a circus and that's a big pass.
Yes, that's a great that's the first really shot around the hoop they've had in quite some time, 52 to 47 through 28.
Got to have stops as good work stops.
You got to get help with that guy defended by scoring and they look for quarter down low backs in and miss but my goodness the chippy I think it was right there Carter was right there just to go.
They were all over.
It just didn't get the two ball out of bounds.
It goes to over the whole world.
Now, the two minute mark gets a bucket here.
They got it in the hands of their leading scorer, Kessler, over the red looking against Madison.
And that's a triangle and fell down.
And that's just a bad break there.
Franklin fell down, couldn't receive the pass, kind of like a bad dream.
Tried to shield the defender away and got caught for over 2 minutes over there.
NORCROSS You're right, Herb.
We're under 2 minutes here and making 52 to 47.
Glad to have you with us here on GPB.
Late night in middle Georgia's final game.
They try to dump it down to Carter Ball was kicked out of bounds by Teslim and Norcross will retain possession.
Let's see how Norcross plays it now too.
They just try to spread it and hold it.
They're going to keep trying to score.
I always like to try to score Norcross With titles in over six or seven or eight, you saw the pictures from 1130 to tell us the ball is off.
NORCROSS Or was it held?
Well, it looked like it was off Norcross to me, but they didn't ask me.
So Norcross will retain possession leading by five.
They'll get it.
And it's a good one.
And he's a good one, too.
As to the rest, looking back and went to the hole, stumbles a little bit, looked like he may have came down a little funny.
Funny on that angle.
You know that line that's the Hillgrove wing players have got to know when they isolate.
Good went out at the top of the circle.
He's going to take it to the basket and you've got to be favoring towards the middle of the court to help out because there's not one person that can stay in front of him.
One of Franklin, his second and Goodwin on the line for two the first one up and good All right now if you're Hillgrove you come down you get a quality shot.
Do you make it?
You press.
If you don't make it, you're going to have to foul.
And in terms of possessions, what do we have right now?
No, hard to say.
I mean, repossession ballgame.
Yeah, right Now six points.
That's a two possession game, two three pointers.
But if he makes this a 15 possession game and the Hawks get the rebound, you going to have to go for three.
But you need the quality shot for the to the football for an offensive charge with scream and four stars in this case but he's not going to get it He's 122 in regulation.
If he had a case that's a charge.
Florida was right there and he took it.
Lorenzo Carter.
All right.
Hillgrove is going to press and I imagine they're going to foul within very few seconds.
Two possession game.
You're down six right now, right?
You got to go get them.
Let's give some shout outs.
It's that guy.
That's Kevin Barnes, of course, helped us out all week.
And then to do is his day job is my job with the amount of hawks.
And of course, his fill in was just late He's been outstanding.
Talk about the Skinners.
How about Matt Skinner and Ken Skinner and of course, Kevin Higgs.
They've been running over, giving their stats, doing a great job, and we can't thank them enough.
Yeah, nice young guy.
And you're right, he's done a lot of sprints over the course of the last three days coming across the court and also said thank you to the Marietta City Center.
We've had wonderful accommodations, great people over there.
Hospitality has been outstanding here in Macon.
No, it always is.
Always is.
You know, I get a little tired between the games, wonder if I can go another ten.
But when that thing's stepped off, man, the adrenaline goes into it.
You answer the bell.
You've been out on the town a lot.
We've had a lot of you here in my 67.
I mean, look at these numbers for a good one.
That's outstanding.
Game 19 points, five rebounds, two assists.
And like I said, he's made the big baskets.
He's answered the call every time it's been needed.
Gotten some good help from Pinkett as well and a couple of nice drives and then they're big guys have won the battle inside, especially in the second half.
They break the pressure.
That's it.
And he got a rejection.
And the follow up Madison no good rebound is controlled by Tilburg.
There's a huge stop and a front quarter screen on the baseline was Ray going to the rock but he gets rejected Franklin And that's Mr. Carter Lorenzo Carter He's got some good hops a big guy he got the length I mean excellent defensive end and also he could hit two of three off the mark and the struggle with the basketball between Brown and Goodwin at Brown.
Look, we got we're coming over the top.
Jerry Brown, his third and Goodwin will go to the line with 56 seconds to go and his Blue Devils with a six point probably not the guy you want to see at the free throw line at this stage of the game.
You know the number four.
Sorry, someone ran a good one.
Let's look at this Couple of huge free throws here.
Can turn into a three possession game.
You know, we talk about not just, you know, 15 straight games and of course, win over the national power, but matters in the Washington, D.C. area.
But they're even more of Morgan Wooten.
Well, it's going to be another case of one of those perennial powers.
Yeah.
Certain themselves again.
And you've had a lot of teams try come in and take some crowds away from some of these guys and nobody's been able to do it so far.
17 goals.
Amy Goodwin With 20 and it's 64 to 47 absolute must score Hornets ahead and a three off of five Southwell and the rebound by Norcross by Angela merkel who scored the foul on Brown his fourth So again a parade to the charity stripe here because Oak Grove is in the penalty desperation and resignation looks like it's setting in with Hillgrove, but they can still win this.
You got to have missed the free throw line and got to get that quick and score in.
Goodwin doesn't cooperate with you now with 21 so 35 to 47, he just looks like a winner to me, not just because he's in this game, but he just looks like a tough kid.
And will his team win now with 2256 to 47, Hillgrove rushing up the floor ball stolen away by Madison and he's had frustration foul and that's just about to do it collect to him looks really hard of Keith right church is over here they're going to have to enlarge that trophy case over there in Norcross.
They got three big ones from this year, right?
Yes.
So they got the they got the football.
Okay.
But Alvin Kamara, net punching feet move from there and going undefeated.
And Alvin Kamara is here tonight back on the Facebook page with Grizzlies.com.
And maybe we can get Chris Callaway to go over there and see John get a shot of him, of course, headed to the University of Alabama here supporting.
Many of his football brethren playing on the Norcross basketball team.
The second opportunity is owned by Madison throws look at the 47 of Norcross on 11 two run 33 seconds you're watching at the prayer was Kyle Casserly.
We're going to get Carter for the block.
I tell you what, Carter is not afraid to give up his body.
It's about the fifth or sixth time he's been involved, either a block or a charge.
And in the to wake up.
So in the making of his jersey, he said to the point for you or two of your closest losses coming in.
One was the Miller Grove, right?
And the other one was with Columbia.
And they lose one two to the Massa.
They beat them, they beat them, and they've got a great program out of Maryland, 67.
It's Carter, Lorenzo Carter.
And of course he'll be deeply in Jake top 11 next year.
Gil, I'd just like to mention right now that yes, sir, I'm going to be stepping out of the GPB fundraising part of the deal.
Well, at the end of this month, after 22 years, it's hopefully I'll be back down here doing some high school basketball next year.
Well, I hope so.
So you to your word gift?
Well, you know, so.
And given the Georgia house, well, I'd rather just be talking and not be on camera.
But it's, you know, I guess it was about 18 years ago, 19 now, a little longer than that.
Tom Barnes and I got together and said, boy, it'd be great to have some high school sports on public broadcasting.
It took us a long time to to convince the people that that there was something we needed to do.
And in 1993 we got some money from the Houston doctor Houston down to the sports medicine clinic to start prep sports, plus the high school show.
And then the next year we televise the Boys and Girls basketball game.
First time a girls sport had ever been televised in the state of Georgia in 1993 and then in 95 and six, we got the football and basketball championships and it's just been solid from there.
And one other thing, we got the wheelchair game on, which was the first time wheelchair championship event it ever been televised anywhere in the country.
So it's been a great run and I can't even begin to mention all the people that have contributed.
John, how important is this man, John Nelson Does it even blow you away?
Herb What we've been able to do here over this length of time, does it surprise you at times how things have changed and how we've been able to grow Georgia public broadcasting sports wise, whatever things we've done?
it's just amazing to me, John.
I couldn't be better.
All the great young people that have come in here, Mark Harmon, doing a tremendous job.
And again, you know, it's I can't really start talking about it because there's so many people.
You're going to leave somebody out.
All I can say is it's it's just been wonderful.
And hopefully we've got I think we've got another three years on the contract we have now with the GHC and hopefully this is going to continue in the future.
But it's been so great for, the players so great for the fans to come out and see it and for the folks.
And that's what we really wanted, was to be able to show the games the folks that couldn't get out and see the games.
And of course, they've been 99% of Georgia for the last 15, 18 years.
I'll tell you, I can't thank you enough.
You've been so gracious to me and helping me out every I needed some advice.
And you know, you always there.
I mean, we had an opportunity to do what Mark's doing now.
You know, when we came down here to make you and I were during the pregame show, well, now, you know, been able to do some play by play and I can't thank you enough.
Well, great.
And it's all about the kids.
And Norcross is about to win another state basketball championship with the Miss and Carter with the rebound and take it his fight immediately.
So Norcross will go back home with three titles and a good one with a diamond to shields in that bunch.
And it appears now they are 15 ticks away from this bunch with led by Brandon Goodwin.
Well, and hopefully this is something that you know Hillgrove can build on this It's the first time they've been here.
But you know when you get to a state championship for the younger kids in your school and get fired up, they see these older kids, they're their heroes.
They say, man, I'd really love to play for a state championship.
That's something I'd like to do.
Those guys can do it.
We can, too.
And they go to work a little harder the next year.
And I wouldn't be surprised to see these guys coming back.
Cobb County is a hotbed of basketball, no doubt about it.
Hillgrove will back.
They lose one, two, three, four seniors, five seniors back to John.
And they have a lot coming back.
John.
It's amazing who you find in the stands.
You see a guy who's dressed all in black, Alvin Kamara sitting next to someone who had a decent night tonight here on GPB, Diamond DeShields, Alvin, you realize, of course, now, if Norcross goes on to win, it be the first time ever in an academic year that the football team and the girls and boys basketball teams have won state in one year, what does that say about Norcross?
You know, I mean, it's just it's a powerhouse.
We got 9 seconds wins.
We had to go down in history.
And I mean, it feels really good to be a part of it and just be be recognized as a top school of medicine, high school in the state.
Boys, boys and girls basketball teams see football Wednesday.
It's going to be crazy schools.
There's no doubt about it.
We're going to go catch Sandy.
Thanks a lot.
It's crazy right now and read that.
John Alvin, thank you.
6248, The North Cross Blue Devils again, Herb life making history.
Yeah.
And if you think these kids get used to winning state championships, a good a little jaded, just look at those faces, man.
Those guys are ecstatic.
John was talking to Alvin Kamara.
Let's get him over with.
Jesse McMillan and what a job he's done stepping in after a legend like Eddie Martin.
And there he is, John and Coach McMillan.
Nellie.
All right.
We're going to kind of do this as a bit of a Walker coach, but we to want to shake Coach Maurice's hand first before we could do the interview, he's going through the progression.
And I'll tell you what, we're going to take a break.
When we come back, Mark Harmon is going to do the trophy presentation.
Norcross gets another boys title, the first ever triple in GHC history.
I'm all for making a GPP.
When we come back, Welcome back.
It's time now to present the trophy to the boys.
Six day state champion, the Blue Devils of Norcross.
I'll show you that.
Here is Ernie Yarborough from the Gators.
Thanks, Mark.
Coach and players, on behalf of Dr. Ralph Swearengen and the Georgia High School Association, we want to congratulate you on a great and a great championships.
Congratulations, Coach.
Hey, ho, ho, ho!
Hey, hold all that.
Hi, Coach.
And tell us your thoughts as your ballclub brings us that high for another great season for NorCal.
Yes, it's been a fantastic year for Norcross as a whole.
Hey, football championship and then girls coming through tonight and obviously these guys getting it done.
You know, it's been really special for us this year and a sensational season all the way around in the Blue Devil Nation.
Yes, sir.
We've got a great faculty, great staff, great kids, just a winning attitude.
Just really proud of everything at Norcross, for sure.
Brandi, good.
When you got the trophy, you're passing over.
You're one of the seniors.
Talk a lot about what it means to win this championship of it means a lot because we worked hard to get to this point and we finally did it.
We said it from the beginning of the year that we was going to do it, so and we did it.
Alan Baker, talk about the fan support and what it means for you.
I just want to go let my seniors leave without a without a ring because I know how much it meant to them.
So I wouldn't even let them leave without it.
You have one good shout out to your fans out there.
Hey, I want to shout out the blue Crew.
Everybody showed up.
We had like four busses.
Hey, hey, So long for football season.
We want to say hello for our girls.
They want to stay and they showed up for us.
We want to stay.
And our family and our families.
Hey, my dad.
Everybody out here, man.
all right.
Congratulations to the Norcross Blue Devils.
They are the six eight champions in football.
Girls, basketball, boys, basketball.
