GPB Sports GHC Basketball Championship How to Region one Tip County will be your home team at 28 and three taking on the wheel.
The Wildcats out of region five with a record of 28 and five.
I'm John this is Sean.
Thanks for accessing us as you have the entire weekend here whether it's on BT Borg or the GPB sports app, we know this game is going to be played above the rim wheeler chasing after yet another championship.
You put Doug Lipscomb on Georgia's Mt.
Rushmore coaches, but it's an opportunity for them to get that top 20 ranking in the preseason and move forward.
Well this is a big game for Wheeler because win this game John Piston back in the driver's seat in the driver's seat for national attention.
Tip County, the entire county is here and I'm not joking.
The blue states have turned blue for Tipp County in the Blue Devils Tip County.
South Georgia in general feels that North Georgia disrespects them when it comes to football and basketball.
This is that opportunity for Tip County specifically carrying the banner for Region one, carrying the band for pretty much three quarters of the state and Tipp counties.
They're going to make a statement tonight with this game.
They win this game versus wheeler.
The South Georgia is back with basketball heading to Georgia Tech Todrick Jackson.
We're going to see a lot of him, a six foot three, 210 man at the point guard John.
He can score scored 35 points in his last outing at Georgia Tech to show them what the future's going to be.
On the flip side, Jaylen Brown for Wheeler, the future of high school basketball.
The future of high school basketball.
At a national level, this young man is ranked in the top five in the nation.
Everything you can imagine as a junior, you're going to love watching him grow up in front of our eyes tonight.
All right.
Let's take a look at our starting lineups brought to us by our friends at Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more Avery Patterson, Makai Eastman, Daniel Giddens, Elijah Staley and Jaylen Brown.
As we just focused on in the open.
On the flip side for Tip County, Liberia, Stewart, DeMarcus Bryan, DJ Brian Tyree Jackson, Nate Thomas and PJ Horn left to right for the Blue Devils.
We anticipate this one is going to be played above the rim and the two guys in charge for both of these squads have been here before.
Eric Hollins You see the orange juice?
That is not a nod to Turner County, his pass gig.
His wife gave him those as a Christmas present.
He is seven and in those orange cohorts and he has brought the bow tie to Tip County five years ago.
It is a style statement in Tipton.
He's been here twice before.
Turner County closed in the single day, losing to Hancock Central, who was led by Kam Hall Z.
Then the following year he lost in single-A to Whitfield Academy.
On the flip side, Doug Lipscomb definitely on the Mt.
Rushmore of Georgia when it comes to high school basketball coaches and when your name is on the gym, it definitely applies.
He has won champions shifts in Wheeler form from 2002 to 2009, and they're chasing after yet another one.
They advanced to the semifinals a year ago, and they're in the last game of the year here in 2014.
And I think the gentleman inside that Blue Devil outfit probably going to lose about £10 by the time we're done.
Six, eight championship Tip Downing representing South Georgia going up against Will.
Those are your gentlemen in the black and white Stripes, Bill McNair, Jeff McNichol, Jason Tidwell.
They will have the whistles.
They will be in charge this evening.
We will see how they let the game go.
Are they going to let it go loose?
Are they going to call it tight?
Tip County off the jump, high off the glass, No rebound inside rimming.
No, no Third chance for Tip County Wheeler's going to come out in their dress blast so you can see the athleticism of both teams and their defense have been off this possession of both squads.
Avery Patterson looking inside bank off the glass count it and a foul the first two on the board for Jaylen Brown many rank him in the top five of Julius Dunk in the nation He's a young man that's great with the basketball in his hand scores inside out his basketball IQ is getting better got D.J.
Bryant to get up in the air.
Bryant charged with his first foul 23 seconds and we will complete the three point play And the Wildcats up three nothing.
Bo Stewart with the basketball Tim White guarded by but by Eastman Tech County working the perimeter, Bobcats playing a tough man D.J.
Bryant with the basketball looking to kick it back and give it to Stewart Stewart, guarded by Makai Eastman wearing 12 tonight.
Drive high, Arthur off the back of the rim.
No, no.
Second chance back.
Thomas Wheeler.
Jaylen Brown working the floor near corner, wide open three rim no second chance Court four picked up by tipped and the Blue Devils come back the other way looping pass target Jackson rimmed out interference up high no whistle called rebound Wheeler back in transition one on three they'll pull it back and ladies and gentlemen if you were here right now, you could feel the energy.
Both teams are playing with so much emotion.
John.
I love it.
Isaiah Staley, Jaylen Brown, Dr. Eric Holland, trying to get the defense to push him further out of the paint because of the size disadvantage tick down.
He had numbers, but the ball is fumbled away.
They're going to have to slow it down to bring it back into the offensive zone.
Coming up on 2 minutes in first quarter, he's going to do Stewart.
They got a whistle.
Five second call coming back the other way.
The tempo of the game, John, it's not an advantage either way.
Both teams love this tempo and once it's set, the tone is set within a few minutes of the first quarter.
You see what both teams tomato.
He's been bringing it up, Tech County packing it in baseline looking to create something blocked underneath the backboard Second chance missed the dunk sit down here come back with it And Stuart Stewart had someone open who didn't go off last tip county and even though Staley missed the dunk inside that's the way you attack the rim that's the way you make a statement.
This effort, John, is a strong statement of this game.
Two and a half in only points on the board.
The long two wheeler stripped underneath his guard.
He's coming back The other way will be the Blue Devils.
Can they convert corner jumper.
Got it.
Tip loves to transition this defense, John, is their offense.
The better turnovers, the more scoring opportunities they do have D.J Bryant with the three he's been tries to answer no good out of bounds.
We're heading back the other way again after transition spotting up nice three there from Bryant from the corner just tip team John they have a lot of heart the heart of a line three Stewart once again guarded by Eastman D.J.
Blind fakes a jumper and he'll start it all over again.
Finding out around the screen didn't happen they blocked Hoggard Jackson drive on Wheeler is short missed everything coming back out step downhill reset D.J Bryant Patrick Jackson all the way out there half court number one junior versus number one single handed Jaylen Brown drives him in and they're going to call it so and see one thing young players have to understand you cannot penetrate John a defense from the top once his set you have to move the ball you can't isolate it like this is the NBA first foul on Tom Jackson, second foul on tipped wheeler still playing in the foul department as we come on the halfway point here in the first everything square three Avery Patterson Staley Eastman back to Patterson thought about the three man strip coming back the other way stripped again but they're going to call a foul on Patterson and reach again.
John The thought process from TIP is their defense.
Their defense dictates their offense and that's what we've seen foul on.
Patterson We're going to take a break with him when we come back.
First 4 minutes of resolve.
Nothing except Wheeler and Chip County are tied at threes.
Welcome back.
Macon Coliseum, Macon Center.
Blake's 354 for the first tip County trying to make a statement.
Get their first title since 1996.
Keys to Success produced by TCU.
Tim Kenny wants to win in transition zone and they started out with it scoring in transition off of their defense box out Ford and run watched him go up and down the court They love to win with their defense once again his success brought to us by our friends at TCU.
Learn more, earn More.
Doug Lipscomb and his bunch over at Wheeler trying to figure things out.
After the first 4 minutes.
This team has to play hard plays, play hard, play smart and play together.
Tons.
They're talented, but they've got to add intangibles to their team to be successful tonight to win a championship because there's so much pressure on them because of the bullseye coach wants them to have fun in the process.
Second round of the playoffs four Wheeler 2010 Quarterfinals 2011 Second round OT loss in 2012.
Not a shock Wildcat nation in their neon blue and gold is here in fourth shot by Ted County.
No running down coming back the other way and out of the hands of Ethan and I'll come back to county on offense.
On the inbound was token Avery Patterson now on target Jackson and that's the result and I think there's two fouls on Patterson so it's Dr. Harlan You can't miss him when he walks into the gym because he is old school with the bow tie.
Second foul on Patterson looping pass inside to Stewart.
And that was an isolation scout report.
When you get the little guard down low list, isolating for a high low good job great set call there for tip counter rebound in and out on the jumper by Staley back comes tip Houstonian Patrick Jackson switch this time Trevon Steed in the game seeing time against tigers Jackson off the glass No warning done once again this is what Wheeler's looking for defensively going up against a high powered offense, especially one led by Jackson, who lit it up in the semifinals, 3526 in the second half.
He's been looking inside, got the pass blocked from behind by Nathan Thomas, but back into the hands of Wheeler.
They'll try it again with easily with tips live with the defense John contesting every shot going after every loose ball there ready long pass complete to D.J.
Bryant looking to drive kicks it back out low block spin too much Wheeler can have numbers if they press two on three Easton decides to go and he got stretch coming back the other way two on two and knocked out of bounds There's that great follow defensively and that's the signature of Wheeler the last two possessions on defense time for Tip County have resulted in turnovers for Wheeler that's the style of play they want.
Defense is the key to their success.
Defense is going to win them a championship.
Trevon State at the fast hands to knock it out of bounds to prevent the two in transition underneath the bucket.
Easy to that time for PJ Horn too easy of a basket down low We talked about the toughness of Wheeler Look at the physicality down though they do have the size and the athletic ability.
John But are they is physical?
It has to be physical in the paint driven state out high coming back the other way once again yet another turnovers easy look off the back of the rim in action Here's a timeout watch to look for a timeout to come Doug Lipscomb once a 30 and he's going to get it 906 downing 190 run And here's your exclamation point game transition basketball bounce Gordon run for guys back in the weight room There's a young man there Stewart with the roll with the right hand off the back of the rim Tiger Jackson coming back with the follow.
Now Jackson loves to score the ball John with him in his hands but when he learns that a score without the ball meaning rebounds, maybe moving without the basketball, he'll become a more complete player.
But I love what he's doing right now.
He's playing the game in a variety of different ways.
Tip County pressure has created seven turnovers of Wheeler, so far, and we've only played six and a half minutes of basketball.
Wheeler, one of six from the full 90 seconds for the first foul as Jaylen Brown tried to go into the paint.
Looks like it's going to be called on D.J.
Bryant and that's his second pick.
Jackson will come in replacing D.J.
Bryant.
Two fouls you know he'll sit for the rest of the quarter and Bryant is one of those players you need on the court zone.
So unfortunately, picking up their second foul early here in the first.
Another shot from the floor missed by Wheeler Jake Jackson will bring it up.
He's guarded by Eastman this time two point Jackson four from behind high off the glass and in That's a strong move.
That's a strong move.
That's what he can do once he gets you low down on his shoulder, it's hard for you to defend him when he pulls up.
Look for the short range.
And again, another turnover, the last six possessions, John, has been a turnover here for Wheeler Todd Jackson high off the glass and Wheeler just looks out of sorts.
Well, the tip of the game, John, is definitely favoring tip counter because their starting with their defense, they're not extending them out.
They've given field a three point shot.
And now Wheeler is big man and trying to drive into a congested paint with five guys waiting on the defense whistle at the point of attack foul on Trevon State his first so he's young we're talking about the defensive tip Wheeler has eight turnovers and they have seven shots so their higher in the category of turnovers instead of their shot attempts and that's huge.
Andrew Jackson will sit for the remainder of the quarter that almost ended up in our last Jalen Lewis in and thankfully you're sitting in the Larry Smith Memorial chair and he's had it in his lap twice that quarter 52.7 pressure defense net take Jackson right at the halfcourt line shot the rim no good really a come back trying to create something 30 seconds to go drop step in the paint whistle that will knock out and you see the frustration there but Coach Harlan understands he wants his team to defend you.
Get up and take the paint, make religion play on the perimeter.
And when they got to the paint, because you have a contested defense, take the chance through Stuart Paul for the foul.
That's his first four free throws.
Yes, that's the fourth team foul for Chip Downey Wheeler with three Caden, Mullinax 14 White will come in.
P.J.
Horn will sit probably for the balance of the quarter.
Jaylen Brown, responsible for all of Wheeler's offense, so far, missed the free throw again.
Look for the one shot.
Stuart Mullinax.
Jahlil Stewart, again working the perimeter.
Coming up on 15 seconds to go.
First quarter smart basketball.
Back to a smart basketball.
Don't take a good shot.
Take a great shot and utilize the clock.
Is your friend ISO blue Stewart jumper missed it Mullinax will not count on the follow it started out three nothing wheeler and after the first 8 minutes it ended up 11 3/10 counting the Blue Devils chasing after their first title since 1996 Wheeler looking to add to their stacked second quarter.
When we come back to the Macon Coliseum on the great GPB, we got welcome back to make him coliseum tip county, 11 wheeler, three guys let's talk fashion.
That's right.
I said fashion coach Harlan behind me.
He likes to wear a bow tie.
But when he first got here and he was showing that off and showing all his class and his style, his guys gave him a lot of slack for that bow tie.
But then eventually it caught on and all the guys wanted to learn how to do a bow tie tie, a bow tie, I guess I should say, and wear one.
And Coach Holland taught them and now it's a turn on the team.
And I think it just shows the leadership and the class act that Coach Holland is and how he makes an impact on this group of guys.
Back over to you, John.
Thank you.
Raven.
You'll be patrolling the other side of the floor for us and I'll say it right now I have enough problems tying a half wins or not.
He says he can tie that bow tie.
John, in 10 seconds.
It took me 2 minutes to tie my tie this afternoon.
I know when he gets off, he's a better man than I.
That's all I can say.
Well, it shows you the type of character that he has when you have not just the team, but also the school giving him the support he needed to build this program.
And look at those numbers.
Five of 16 for Tift, only one of seven from the floor for Wheeler in the first quarter.
That's a good way to start the second quarter.
Jaylen Brown That is a great way to start the second quarter because what that does now Tip has to extend their defense and play now more on the perimeter instead of trying to take away the drive.
Eastman guarding those Stewart's shot up.
No, but a whistle as he John, before that shot, TIFF was on a92 of vantage points off turnovers with a total of eight turnovers there for Wheeler.
So the advantage of the turnovers and the defense that goes in tip.
But when we look and come down to hit outside shots, John, now that changes the dynamics of the game and the foul on Makai Eastman.
That would be his first though Stuart misses the first free throw sets for the second and rimmed out back quickly in transition Wheeler Avery Patterson late corner Eastman looking in pick it back out Jumper got it Trevon Steed to perimeter basket there for real John That's a problem that's going to create a problem now for Tip County because they've been dependent on really driving great answers here for Wheeler's offers He's been on Bruce Stewart that match ups been there pretty much throughout jumper from the corner Got it There's a response and a pick D.J Bryant's three put it back to a six point margin target Jackson taking it back inside looking at drive baseline double team off the glass no follow rimmed out no good tip get a third chance they wanted to they're going to call a whistle on the shot but John just as he was starting getting in some rhythm and the turnover comes and when the turnover comes John that's frustrating There's a coach for coach against because you saw that two, two times on the court back to back.
We've been able to capitalize on privilege upsets Bell and Daniel Giddens his first 15 foul for Wheeler Jeff County with four D.J.
Bryant starting it backing it all the way back out to Stewart Guarded by Steve two hands in the passing lane stays with tip counting after Jaylen Brown knocked it out of bounds Jaylen Brown getting in the passing lanes playing this in the most and that's exactly what we will needs done.
He needs to play with some emotion on the defensive end before the offensive end If they want to win by inbounds pass into the back court, they stick things in all the way into the paint, uncontested bodies on the floor, ball out of bounds stays a tip.
Elijah Staley back in the ball game for Wheeler Giddens will sit So you're trading 6846 ten underneath bounce pass baseline high arc jumper back to the rim no coming down with its Eastman He stripped from behind and this is out of control right now Drive finger roll left hand no finish tries to get thrown out the window he should have finished a little bit harder and attacking the rim Stewart and Eastman going at it looked like it was deflected target Jackson loop around pass foul Jaylen Brown on the foul Nice save great hands Good pass Just a physical basketball game between both teams John we only have eight fouls here in the first half so that's huge respect to two things we expected physical we expected above the rim a little bit of both.
So far, Jeff County up 14 eight almost two and a half gone here.
Second quarter five second violation on tip downing or heading back the other way with what John Casella talked about, how he loves transition basketball but in the half court for two possessions are really in the first half, they've had two five second violations.
So when it comes to sit up their half court offense, they've got to get it a little bit more quicker.
Jeff Kenny sagging defensively right now in the tie.
He's been dribbling outside the three point Jaylen Brown back to Eastman thinks about the three he'll take it miss it no good coming back Blue Stewart behind the back out of control so he's going to come up with it Corner jumper off the rim No back comes Wheeler and Avery Patterson on the drive Jaylen Brown had six hands in the air.
We'll see which two are called for the foul but John he's crafty enough.
Once he gets to the rim he can maneuver himself in a position to absorb contact and get to the free throw line.
Bell on P.J.
Horn, His first free throws, good return defense.
And on that particular possession, you saw Ted County try to take away the baseline double, triple down low.
So that high can't get to the glass.
Exactly, because you've got to stop the drives on number one.
But number two, you got to stop the offensive rebounding because he is talented enough, athletic enough and tall enough inside the paint to be effective in offensive glass free throws.
And now it's down to a four point game in 14 to 10 scores.
Stewart being pressured by Patterson gives it to Tiger Jackson driving on speed High teardrop.
Nothing happening.
Coming back the other way will be Wheeler.
They can get it to two or one with a three open in the paint passes too hard and incomplete to guarantee you'll come back with it.
Coming up on the halfway point, second quarter six, a title game here on GPB Championship 15 of 15 here in the Macon Coliseum in Macon Madness, as they call it.
Big clear out and another five second violation against.
I'm just not being comfortable in their hand offense and that's a problem I'm sure that coach Holler here at Thomas going to discuss that fourth turnover for Tift County and we're going to take a break Tip county hanging on to the advantage.
It's down to four wheeler rolling right now.
Six eight title in the balance.
We come back here on GPB.
Welcome back Macon Coliseum Macon center bucks 407 for the first half.
And let's take a look at how these two teams got to play in the last game of the year.
Going to the championships produced by our friends at Georgia EMC, Georgia EMC lighting the way 31 over three.
Ridge survived in triple overtime and round two against Shiloh and a fight against North Gwinnett to only win by three.
Then they beat Pebble Brook by 18 to get to play Chip County tonight from the left hand side of the bracket, on the right hand side of the bracket, Tipp Counties road to 21 over Tri-Cities three over left joint 5647 over Hillgrove.
The tremendous tour de force of Todderick Jackson at McComas Pavilion playing Norcross in the semifinal, winning 78 to 78.
And that's how they came in from their part of the bracket to play Wheeler tonight for the six eight championship road to the championship brought to us by our friends at Georgia EMC Georgia EMC lighting the way.
And John Reed, briefly, I want to talk about turnovers real quick.
So people can understand you have a good you have a good turnover and a bad turnover.
A good turnover is when the turnover.
Does that lead to an open court basket?
A bad turnover is when it leads to an easy transition layup.
Some people consider that a four point play.
Miller has had too many turnovers for their own liking, ten already in only 12 minutes of play and that almost was number 11 down low on the block on the drive easy left hand four to Elijah Staley again we talked about getting into the paint here.
Wheeler Establishing the post presence.
That was fast, fantastic, getting Staley down low to the nice left hook and a lazy pass coming back the other way for the jam Jaylen Brown soon athletic he is John Nice steal nice kids sit down He has to be careful here trying to let momentum get to him six wheeler run and kick it all the way back out to half court.
Well see that's the difference in a bad turnover zone and a good turnover.
That time it was a bad one because it led to a transition basket.
You see gets in the transition gets into the passing lane and a big time finish as your defense hands in the passing lane in the jam foul on the play, as he puts it, Havenstein had to turn the ball over even though you don't want to.
I rather take the foul second time because you can set the defense from the back end.
But when you have a turnover here in a half court, he'll give it a wide open layup.
That's hard for the team.
Seven foul on Wheeler tires broken Eastman in Giddens in four wheeler pick Jackson will sit for Chip Kelly a little more height under the basket for Wheeler second free throw no good Stanley the rebound to get to Avery Patterson and start the offense going up against Bruce Stewart.
There's a lot of steps you do get the whistle falls to Patrick Ewing special here with get is not known for his offense John he's more of a defensive specialist a guy that likes to block shots, run in transition and clog up the paint.
That's one thing he has to work on because he's 610.
He's athletic.
He'll get better.
Patterson guarding Patrick Robert Jackson out at half court to Stewart looking to create left block And speaking of block coming back the other way Wheeler in transition Eastman to high so easily came downtown that position to the no look pass and the championship game got to keep it simple make the easy play but sometimes the easy play zone is the hardest play because someone thinks it's too easy.
So you want to make it a little bit more challenging.
Wheeler has 14 points.
They also have 12 turnovers to this point in the game.
As we get to 2 minutes to go first half left handed Patrick Jackson for two.
Jackson just muscled himself down low for the nice teardrop placement up high.
Patterson launches a three back rim now over the back is Daniel Giddens knocked out of bounds and we're heading back the other way with it is tied with Jackson at six three £210.
It's really hard for a six foot 185 guard to guard to defend him, John when he wants to go ahead and manhandle and download this, that's what you could do about it.
AJ Bryant in the corner back to Target Jackson looking to go on speed pass on the baseline coming out of that it is dealer off the turnover and wide open all eyes are still the Mississippi state signee is showing his ability to run the floor catch and finish down low and that's a basket going into halftime zone four wheeler under 80 seconds for the first half Jeff County leading 1716.
Jackson inside bumped out.
We're going to try it again.
PJ Bryant up high guarded by Jaylen Brown is going to call a block that time on the drive pass second foul on Jaylen Brown in transition defense John Stanley getting behind the defense No one can win Lawson Fantastic finish down there great court vision there that time 57.6 for the first half to county leading 1716.
There's D.J.
Bryant's numbers six points right now run into the one and one good It's only got 57 seconds left in the first half.
Two point game advantage in Tip County.
You're going to force the outside shot and defend the paint second free throws.
Good.
That gives Bryant eight pick Jackson in Stephen Waters in tip counting as he tipped pretty much into their bench.
So will anyone who picked up a foul in the last minute of the game D.J D.J.
Bryant Nathan Thomas out for tipped 50 seconds to go in the fourth Eastmond to stay away guarded by waters.
You look at his defense, john sagging defense.
Everybody's in the paint is that the got us on the ball.
Pressure containment means you want to keep the five second down and keep the ball outside of the big Jackson on Eastman fight on the floor pick Jackson wins the battle and missed the dunk I'm guessing this should have been a layup instead of a dunk, John, because I just talked about it.
Easy plays, all the hardest plays to make.
And that's a statement from Mr. Smith himself, the greatest basketball coach in the world.
The hardest play is the easiest play, and coach understood how important it was going into the game at halftime with a possible five point lead there.
Any authority his way to say, Watch your play.
And we took him out immediately.
Picked Jackson under 10 seconds.
Let's see what Wheeler does Drive the baseline up.
No good, no foul to John.
That's a four point turnaround.
You missed it two points here and never have a chance to give up two points here on the back end.
If he makes both of these free throws and with an additional foul to the left.
So I can understand the frustration that Coach Hollins foul on PJ Horn his second and see that play.
John's going to leave a sour taste into your mouth going into the locker room a half his team has played pretty well up to that point.
Stephen Waters out the tip counting subbing defense for offense here with 6.1 second free throw.
No good rebound time for Jackson.
He's got to come up in a hurry.
They're going to come up with any kind of a shot launch too soon off the back of the rim but no harm except County and Coach Howard went after Tiger Jackson for launching that one too quickly in Toronto.
Have a chance to catch up with the good doctor to find out about that two point lead the way.
Steve probably thinks it could have been more Raven what the coach and coach obviously a little frustrated.
What's the most frustrating element right now about this game?
Best shots we play for everybody else up for the team total coming in you got to be disciplined in his environment.
Every time we come down here, we make uncharacteristic plays to try to duck down to you, try to dunk the ball.
Got those wide open.
Nice playing good ball right now.
Well, get that fixed.
All right, coach.
Well, good luck.
Thank you.
All right, back over to you guys.
All right.
Thanks very much.
We're at halftime of the final game of the day.
The boys six day state championship wheeler going for a sixth straight, their sixth state title and Tip County going for its first one since 1996.
Yeah.
And the first half is any indication.
We have a lot more exciting basketball coming your way.
Rachel said she's going to tell us what people are talking about.
People are lining up the Internet, talking about this game.
We'll have some of that just ahead.
Blast your first half highlights straight ahead on GPB.
Welcome back to the Making Coliseum to the GHC.
Boys and Girls Championships live across the great state of Georgia, live on the great GPB.
We have crowned 14 state champions over the last three days.
We've got one more to crown this boys six eight state title and we're at halftime of that right now.
Tift County is leading Wheeler by two points after really having a quick start to this game.
And right now a lot of people online are talking about coach Holland in that halftime interview.
He was not happy.
He was steamed and very honest.
You know, the kid hasn't done it in two years.
What's he trying that for?
Yeah, I have a feeling they're hearing a lot more of stuff like that in the locker room.
All right.
Let's check in now with our social media correspondent, Grace Olsen's.
Grace, I understand a lot of people talk about what Coach Holland had to say.
We all the people tuning in from Mexico talk about that.
We do.
I told you earlier we had a study abroad group tuning in all the way from Italy.
So we had a remote IT tune in on Facebook and says he's watching all the way from Mexico to support Tip County.
So thank you, Raymond, for letting us know.
And if any of you other viewers are watching from somewhere outside the state, throughout the state of Georgia, just let us know where you're watching from so we can share that with our viewers.
We also have who is the groundskeeper at the Blue Devils Stadium, says he's watching from Tip County, obviously supporting those Blue Devils.
Now, Melinda tweeted us blue, another Blue Devils fan, She says, not quite all.
Tip County is in Macon, but those of us that aren't are glued to the TV.
And remember, the hashtag is GPB Hoops finals.

Well, I tell you what, just 16 minutes to go in the weekend.
I've been very impressed over the kind of basketball that we've played, the coaching, the players, the fans, the whole shebang.
Yeah.
And the fans haven't just let the competition be on the court.
Actually, there are some fans on the floor right now engaging in their own competition.
It has been an absolute blast.
We have really enjoyed being able to bring these to your living rooms for the last three days.
And I tell you, the basketball couldn't be much better because most of the games have been very, very close like this one.
Exactly.
We're going to have to see what happens in the second half.
I have a feeling it's going to stay down to that last buzzer that you're hearing right now.
All right.
One more half to go.
16 minutes of basketball left and championship weekend here live on GPB.
It's Kent County leading Wheeler 1917 at the break.
Don't go anywhere John Nelson and Shawn Golden they are going to have the second half of this exciting matchup right here on GPB.
So now why welcome back Macon Coliseum Macon Center flex start of the third quarter Ted County up by one of the slimmest of margins.
You can have 1917.
They had a big run first quarter.
Wheeler has come back the second quarter I'm John that Shawn we're going to talk about the first half and it really was two separate versions of what we saw.
Well Tiff came out with a lot of emotion.
John created turnovers, which put them up by double digits.
And then we talk about we tip tip doing it like they like to do transition basketball.
You got Jackson scoring in a variety of different ways and then tip able to capitalize with a three point.
But then Jaylen Brown, one of the top teams in the nation, he said he's going to put this team on his back to build to a championship.
He wasn't saying that getting behind the defense for the monks to dunk.
There's your first half numbers halftime stats brought to us by Farm Bureau Georgia stats courtesy of the map of the West Georgia Technical College.
What do you see?
Well, John, one thing that I see is field goal attempts have 15 Tip County 26.
And the reason why we only shot 15 times this first half is because of the 13 turnovers.
They've got to cut down their turnovers and find a way to get Jaylen Brown to erupt here in the second half for big game.
Now obviously Dr. Holland probably had a rather spirited discussion with the folks at Tip County after what happened in those two late possession second quarter.
He gave them a lot of love.
Spoken like a true coach start of the third 8 minutes here 15th championship to decided last one here boys six eight Chip County chasing after their first since 1996 wheeler looking to add their first since 2009 inside for two.
That's a good start Stuart and John that's the second time they run that isolation play.
Every time they see they get a little point guard down low and Eastman, they want to isolate him with Stuart to get the high low pass.
There's an attempt at an isolation great hands Patrick Jackson one on three drives.
He gets the deuce and the whistle.
One of the stats, John, we talked about was turnovers.
And we talked about good turnovers and bad turnovers.
Whenever you have a turnover and it leads to a transition basket and on top of that with a foul in three point play, that's just tough action and not good.
Therefore for the the Wildcats three point play complete margin out to seven Jackson with ten big muscle on the inside foul No bucket Jaylen Brown as you said put the team on his back at points in the first half starting to do it early here in the third but you can't wait John, because you don't want to give him too much confidence.
He had the start of his second half, so he's got to come out with his guns blazing, kick on a ten two run right now.
He's on.
The beautiful thing about this relay team.
You see the potential.
They are loaded with talent, but you have to have a heart and hustle and a sense of toughness about you to take that talent to the next level.
They can do it because they get the right coast behind them.
Both free throws, huge missed opportunity there.
Four wheeler drive in the paint off the glass up and in Stuart in the attack mode scoring the last two baskets they have to tip canning and Doug Lipscomb is going to call a 30 and here's how it got to nine.
Stuart realizes he has a strength advantage tide advantage versus Eastman looking to go one on one and create the disadvantage.
Two points for tip counter went into the paint against three wheeler wildcats split the middle with John.
You only have 6 minutes and 58 seconds left in the third and the for 8 minutes a little bit over 14 minutes left in the game.
That's the type of action when your toughness comes out even though you make he make it past the first run of the defense, you got to contest every shot inside the paint.
That's what Wheeler's not doing tip down.
He's made all three of their field goal attempts here in the third quarter.
Wheeler is still yet to try something from the floor.
There's your first.
There's your hook off the rim.
No good case there.
Stewart With the rebound and he'll drive on.
Eastman looked like he wanted to do a wraparound pass to PJ Horne ball got knocked out of bounds.
It'll stay with the blue team here just to get it in at the five second count.
Jackson behind the back driving on Patterson PJ Horne had it stripped to Wheeler come back down the floor with it and trying to pass in the paint.
The three tip county jerseys there doesn't happen turns into another turnover It's number 14 and Jaylen Brown how much almost sometimes too much of a team player Not necessarily but at the same time that was a time when he needed to pull up the last two possessions has been he has done so he's realized he has that advantage part of that learning curve from junior to senior year.
Exactly right.
He wants it mentally.
He doesn't understand time and position winning the win not to.
But tonight he needs to be the man guy over the top again Patterson on tighter Jackson in the corner Jumper rim no good to sky Wheeler come down with it It's going to be been running the offense 545 to go for the third Tip County's lead is nine Patterson inside Jaylen Brown off the glass and to begin the offense needs to go through Jaylen Brown He can put this team on his back John he can wield them to a championship It's a seven point game.
There's a lot of time 515 for the third three Stewart driving on Eastman handoff to Tiger Jackson in the corner Fakes twice three times pass out to the key one too many passes and a whistle Here's that tip There you go.
Jaylen Brown.
This is Kevin's interception inside, which is great.
And I love his demand.
The ball down low.
But as the game grows, time tips can do more of a job of taking away that inside presence.
He's got to hit something outside.
PJ Horne picked up his third foul and he's in the game still right now for Dr. Eric Harland, interesting to see if they try to work their way, see if they can get home to pick up a fourth.
Elijah Staley's on the deck, tangled up amongst the guys down on stage with the foul and Nathan Thomas with a little contact looked like on the job He's checking out he's doing a chick lit check to make sure that everything's still there.
Exactly which way we going in that one we'll call block Good Idea by Steven Waters.
Nice.
Cut to the basket.
Looks like Waters tried to lean in with that shoulder a little bit.
Yeah, that's a fantastic call there by the Fishers, John And kudos to have their officiate in this game as well to Elijah Staley.
Free throw down on the rim.
No and coach just wants to make the presence of his post guys down low and when you get a chance to score at the start John, you got to take advantage of it.
One of four from the line in the first quarter.
Here's the pressure at 2 to 1.
Chris knocking down the six passes too much try to get save active hands goes back to Wheeler Jaylen Brown coming down the lane knocked out of his hands and they're going to call a foul on Jeff Danny fouls on Drew Stewart that'll be his second this come here looks like looks are getting the foul to to get rid of the basketball in time it's free throws good and John I think really may have found something wasn't going back to that 2 to 1 press they can extend some pressure and to tip county forcing possibly forcing another turnover makes both this time reel five of nine in free throws 2622.
There's two men in the corner.
James Stewart.
Those pass Patterson time for Jackson looking to create something jumper out of the corner rim No picked up Wheeler scramble on the inside jump ball for the possession goes to Wheeler as he done the 2 to 1 person so that he can be offensive They're going to make sure they screen out of the trap and get back in transition but whenever you can force the wrong player to shoot the ball and Bryan in that possession, that's great.
0444 wheeler Just having a moment with the officials little talk for Avery Patterson as he comes up to four halfway through the third quarter.
Tip County's lead is for 26 to 22.
That's Patterson looking to drive caught off the switch and the whistle can still get down low John using that big wide body picking up the foul foul on Stephen Waters and we're going to take a break Tip County hanging on chasing after their first title since 1996.
The margin is four halfway through the third on GPB.
Welcome back.
Macon Coliseum, Macon Center.
Blake's 354 for the third.
Let's turn it over to Raven Toronto, talking about the adventures of basketball Schedule's Raven.
Absolutely, guys talking to Coach Lipscomb earlier this week and he talked about how they went to a tournament in West Virginia.
And it was a whole new experience for his team because of all the wildlife that they saw.
He said that it was just something that they never seen before, something that never, never had been a part of it all the stuff crawling around wildlife craziness in West Virginia.
I guess I had to go check it out for ourselves.
Back to you.
John Raven Very much, but that's what teams like to do these days.
They like to get out of their comfort zone.
Yes.
Go to the showcases.
Yes.
Whether it's Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, West Virginia.
That's how it is these days to get exposure.
Well, there's two ways to get exposure, John.
You're right.
You go to all these tournaments and number two, basketball.
And that's and those are the two ways.
But Coach Lewis can because he runs such a great program his presence his wants it at these these these championships especially during the holiday season and he has a huge one in his facility himself over the Martin Luther King weekend.
You just have to be careful about the deer loop pass turnover fought back four guys Wheeler ends up with it coming back the other way 344 and counting his third behind the back Patterson missed the dunk Coming back underneath was Daniel Giddens and he didn't get it.
But there's sure to miss the other way.
So it all ends up being a wash and John Daniel Giddings is going to get better.
He's a young junior, 16 athletic and I love him, but I'm saying he's more of a defensive presence than an offensive presence, but he needs to finish that two points high marking pass.
Third time that they've done that.
This time it's intercepted up front and away in time.
Staley got caught in the in-betweens, but it ended up in the basket.
The margin is two 610 frame plus the wingspan kind of helped him out there and thought about the dunk.
And then on the way down he realized I better just put it in the gym.
What's the difference between every two points in a beat it for two points.
I believe that would be nothing.
There you go.
David Jackson out high, big Jackson ball knocked out of bounds.
Here's your transition.
Tough defense for Wheeler in the ending.
Good body control, good Those game is going to balance Drew Stewart tried to drive I think that's going to be on Treveon Steven.
If it is, it's going to be his third.
He's doing is doing something, John.
He's taking advantage of what's being presented to him.
He's a second team All-Region player averaging eight and five a game, but when he wants to control the game, John with his presence, he's definitely has the talent to do so.
Patterson on 200.
Jackson Jackson going to drive off the back of the rim No go to the free throw line creating another opportunity for tip counter.
You get points with no blockers and you watch Williams defense, the big three staying on the baseline deep in the paint and they allow their two guards to defend the perimeter, play of them Tip county tip county spread the defense John and it's going one on one and getting to the paint to the paint free throws.
Missed two fouls Avery Patterson it's his third and he'll stay in the game with three fouls.
Bryant leaves temporarily for fifth down so you're fives who's Stewart Pick Jackson Tiger Jackson Steven Waters good to go with that pressure again by Tip County and May Thomas the fifth one in for Cook County right now coming up on two and a half to go here third quarter Tip county leading by three baseline drive up and in count the foul and they talked about that man Daniel Giddens but they wave it off offensive but you see Giddens establishing himself there in the low block with a spin move.
I think that was a questionable call because the defense is basically densely junk underneath the middle of the basket.
I thought it was an 1000.
Giddens takes the basket away.
That's his second foul.
Big pressure pick gets blocked out of bounds and there's you make good right there by Daniel Giddens that's what he does best challenge this shot changes the game defensively that's his bread and butter block shots rebound and be a presence down low on the defensive end long inbound again Nate Thomas just missed their last five shots from the floor.
They still have a three point lead as we come up to 2 minutes now third quarter.
Let's see right now he needs to back up defensively too close to the ball hill to pick up the foul that far away from the basket Big teardrop missed picked up by Elijah Staley inside coming out with speed Jaylen Brown looking for Giddens getting to Patterson spin move baseline and they let him go that time Elijah Staley with the easy bunny in the margins one Staley with nine teardrop that time by Drew Stewart Falls It's back to three at 2926 and they're going to call steps or an offensive foul which one And John that's the pace the tip County likes they're okay with exchanging baskets with Wheeler because eventually Wheeler's not accustomed to playing at such a frantic pace fouls on Jaylen Brown that's his third and keep an eye on that now coming up on 80 seconds to go third quarter but really going to that 2 to 1 press John trying to create turnovers.
Speaking of Jaylen, Brown ends up with it.
Patterson launches a three rimmed out.
No, but when you've got Elijah Staley at six eight underneath, it's an easy two to get it back and Staley doing a great job of cleaning up the offensive boards.
John Patrick Jackson out of control ball out of bounds in 58.2 hands the last bucket even though that was ill advised shot when you got big fellas like Staley down low that's okay because you know they're going to be there for the offensive rebound and that should be four on Patterson if that's the call and that's huge.
Avery Patterson having to sit with four fouls at 58.2 to go third quarter.
I see John he's the leader of the team.
He's the captain of the team.
Now you got the captain sitting on the bench with four fouls.
We see how he responds to his absence.
Brewster picked up by Eastland up High.
Here's back up, back up just a little bit.
The pressure is too deep which isn't going to allow that.
Zachary Small person containment big Jackson four two makes it 3128 Coming up on 30 seconds to go third quarter the ball back to Jaylen Brown get a break down low but he has to do something jumper rimmed out no rebound tip county they could play for one yeah let's get another shot look good Lipscomb wanted to finish out the third quarter John he's been on take Jackson looking to drive Give it back out the blue Stewart guarded by 60 they got a flat.
See the ISO ISO too far away from the basket Throws it up the foul Paul with two and a half to go in the corner foul on Eastman that'll be his second with John John pardon the keys where to play hard play smart play together okay Yes you just play hard.
They plan to gather for the not playing smart that two possessions in a row.
You're going to spin your defense way beyond the three point line.
And every time tip count is penetrating to the basket.
Protect the paint.
First force the shoot the outside shot.
Okay.
And since your keys to the game were the same on two pages, what about sit down?
Looked at Kels when the great job on transition basketball.
They love it.
They're playing well with it and defense.
They're scoring off of their defense A three pointer misses everything and we're done with 24 minutes.
When we come back to the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center, Black Tip County will be 8 minutes away from their first title since 1996.
A lot of impact underneath will see the final 8 minutes when we come back to boy six, a title game on GPB and so much space.
Welcome back start of the final 8 minutes and Macon madness it is the boys six eight championship game tips County was down first quarter three nothing they got a run and let pretty much ever since a bunch of times in between 3320 85. margin for about two Eric Holland as he and Goodrich then extended trade offense and defense in the six eight championship game six county chasing after a tie the first time a long time that from trying to add one four wheeler in the mantel for from 2000 to 2009.
They had won in the nineties then a fantastic weekend here at the Making Coliseum in the Macon Center.
I'll turn it over to Raven Tirado.
What's up?
Hey guys.
I was just in the Wheeler huddle and listening to the coaches talk in the big with emphasis here was nose up on defense we've got to make stops and then you heard number 14 Elijah Staley saying hey listen look for me because they're they're guarding me so give me the ball.
That's basically the point of them.
This is in the huddle right now.
Back over to you, John.
Thank you for having Wheeler cut it to 2928 with 61 seconds to go in the quarter.
Tips for the last points to get it back to that five point margin in the last 32 seconds, third quarter numbers, four of nine from there from the courts hit five of 12 and tip, they'll have it to start the final eight.
T.J. Bryant, guarded by Jaylen Brown after timeout Tim Downey to avoid another five second call because we've had three of those.
Yes we have because of the tough wheeler defense.
Yeah well Wheeler's doing one down there protecting the paint a little bit more.
They are standing their person.
Not as far as give him the ball John, but denying the pass.
And so you saw that tip came out of the time out here out of third quarter.
Want to use some clock here going into the fourth.
So every time you tried to go into to delay game in such an early part of the fourth and you denying it it's tough to get some rhythm offensively you're a student section in plenty of rhythm and Todd Jackson for the most part for Chip Downey he knew he was going to have a bullseye on his chest, especially after that semifinal performance at the Georgia League's Tiffany State, 11 after three quarters, but he still got 80.
So it's balanced across the board.
That's exciting.
As you see his isolation that we talked about is what they're trying to do, just like they're trying to set up the ISO down low.
And Stewart's done a good job of getting himself in position against Eastman, easily being five nine, Stewart being about six foot six, two.
Alan Eastman, is he?
Stewart tried to drive past That's Eastman's third.
And John, that play has resulted in four points for the low pass and possibly six two from the free throw line He hits this both note miss the front end of the one and one for the margin.
Still five didn't prevent Steed by Eastman into the paint off the glass.
Easy to Raven gave us the inside look what we wanted to do coming out into the fourth quarter.
Gets the ball into Staley and see if he can take it home down low.
Staley and Jaylen Brown, each with 13 right now lined up for a three does gets the basket John big time basket PJ Bryant for three to space it back out to five 640 and counting regulation Jaylen Brown looking to drive into the paint right hand up and in nicely That's what he does best John attack of the rim was able to split the trap off the ball screen and get an easy layup but caught napping defensively almost ball got kicked by DJ Horn What happened here just pick the defense off the screen using the ball screen getting to the rim is a nicely said Jaylen Brown doing that as a junior we talked about great play Well he's deftly going to prove you got along somebody got a lot of screen there's a lot of basketball he has to learn but he has a solid foundation and he's in a great program zone PJ Heron off the block no good margins for coming up on 2 minutes gone Fourth quarter taking advantage of the height no on the corner rimmed out on the three by Patterson said county looking to transition football and see the home run done.
It looked good but it didn't have to swing for the fences could take the basketball right now with 556 left in the game up by four points.
John protect the basketball and that's one of the things that he's maintained this entire weekend.
He's going to need to be a contact hitter in these situations.
You don't need necessarily go for the home run every time we're right now, we have spring training the Braves seasons get ready to start here soon mean he was great fans Let's talk a little baseball Patterson drove to the basket foul called on tip counter foul on Billy Stewart that's his third P.J.
Horne with three who Stewart with three to tip down.
And Patterson has been playing with force for a long time, but Wheeler missed the first three for the Avery Patterson.
John, the captain of the team.
See, you have a chance to cut the seeding in the fourth.
If he made both of those possibly to five as the Jets.
This one, that's a five point lead.
John 540 to go regulation there's the pressure you talk about after free throws that are made five and Jackson stumbles but gets possession of it again a little too much out of control coming back the other way Wheeler to contribute to one and that's a challenge and that's where he can improve.
He made his man up town once he got to half for what he was going to do and he was out of control.
And as a result it was charge which led to his fourth foul.
And it looks like Dr. Collins is going to take it on 32nd here to kind of talk things through.
But what you're seeing defensively from Tip, more than happy to take the charge.
Everything's fine for defensively and they're getting all of these turnovers.
Wheeler Right now, 19 turnovers in.
You want to talk about both sides of the equation.
You've got North Avenue on the right hand side.
You've got someone to you on the left hand side, you get those.
Felton took our team, University of Georgia, after winning the SCC tournament a few years ago and the beautiful thing about that, John, this is going to be in Atlanta next week.
And if you can recall and if you can recall, John, that was also during the the tournament tornado.
So the coach felt as in a great job for George in the past and he's doing some scouting now in the NBA.
So when you when you're seeing things going through here, we what, at 527 for the third, has anything surprised you to this point or is this pretty much as you've had it?
This is how I examined it, John.
I realize this is the type of basketball game we're going to have, but now it's about turnovers and making wise decisions.
As we get down to the end.
Pick Jackson with the pass inside the PJ Horn basket doesn't go to the call foul 40 field goal he refuses to tip is one of three and that's the four foul on ten Sneak in the driving seat for free throws by T.J. Holmes on getting quality time as a freshman really shows you the direction, John, this program is going in this attempt to jump back into to a man to man and to disrupt this thing out clock didn't start on the inbounds.
So they're going to knock off a couple of clicks here, figure out what the time's going to, you know, and a half court knock off 3 seconds and we'll call a509 Bailey inbounds and guys missed Jaylen Brown double teamed it points has to bring it all the way back out beyond the three point line we're going have to start over big screen for Easton to run through Patterson's baseline and it was taken out of the way coming back to county dipsy do power transition basketball John and defense drastic shift and county way do those two things done the former to a championship is right get your grasp.
Jaylen Brown answers for Wheeler and it's back to 4035 transition again tied to Jackson looking left hand here for Jim Brown's in foul Jones got four fouls already so he has that play go Jackson now with 13 pass out of control by Elijah Stay as you transition you've been talking about all night transition basketball this Brown Justin contact contest that shot and gave up the easy basket as long as Jaylen Brown is around that it's going to work toward him to try to pick up that bit to get that height out of there.
Ten down in the corner baseline Tiger Jackson up and under an end.
That was a very incredible athletic move and showcase that he does deserve to be the number one guard in the state as a senior And this is not the guy that you had on the right half of the screen he's going to be getting when he hits the glass.
You obviously had Coach Driggers happy to see that type of move, because if he can finish that move against those type of trees here at the Knicks level, he'll be dealing with and producing the same way Tip County's lead at the 353 mark back out to nine.
And there he is right there.
He's working the game.
I think he's coaching in his head.
It's like, okay, now what can I do with him?
It's like, Yeah, I know who's coming to North Avenue.
The guy in that huddle right there, Jackson has 1554 of five from the floor in this quarter.
He was their last three Jackson with 15, D.J.
Bryant with 13, though.
Stewart with eight.
There's your answer Bio blaster quick Georgia Tech heading to the flat first team all state agency player of the year Brian Gregory's getting a good let's see what we can do here down nine at the 350 mark Patterson driving with four what are they going to call foul on tipped on the way by Patterson what a sudden continuation that's on Lou Stewart that's for zone we get 345 left in the game for whatever reason both teams have now figured out the other is not a good outside shooting team.
So instead of extending the defensive pressure, I do think is protect the drive pressure containment, keep the five second count the no that you could take to the ground and no one's figured that out.
PJ hung the rebound off the mystery thrown back in 3436 now 330 in terms you see Dr. Holland over there trying to space it out, fumbled on the floor, bodies being side to the challenger to call a full heat.
Sebastien is going to talk it through and there are these situational timeouts from this moment forward setting offense or defense, depending on what happens tonight.
Yeah, John, that was more to save the turnover that was getting ready to happen right there in front of his bench.
Right.
He's got to save face, save the possessions.
Now he's going to coach with the strategy because he went to the old school Four corners to utilize the clock getting this no shot clock here in the high school basketball.
So He got to take advantage of the situation and what little time off the clock.
If you get an easy basket layup, take it.
But don't shoot anything live by jump shots because now you put the team in a bad situation.
Bad situation right there for Wheeler.
You saw who had forward Stephen Patterson.
Patterson's been playing it for for quite some time.
He's been with Cory.
On the flip side, he knew it was for PJ Hollinger three.
Send it over to Raven.
Raven?
What you got?
Yeah, guys, those in the Wheeler huddle and the three things that drew from it was trapping the ball.
You'll see a lot of that going on right here.
Don't play here a ball and attack the rim.
Back over to you guys.
Don't play hero ball because back to your theory of just getting clean single and John, they're exactly right.
This door at University of Georgia.
He always used to encourage us don't be the hero be the bystander to watch everything What's happening wide open for the jam back door and count it He DJ Horn was not picked up and by the time he was seen flashing, it was too late and then found his own brown zone.
Jaylen Brown is done at the 320 mark trying to come back to help on the backside and he didn't do it in time.
So he's got to see the man in the ball, number one.
Number two, he's got to have a sense of urgency on the defensive end to complete his game and he's going to get better.
But at that moment, even though he tried to trap the ball, John, he can't be so locked in where the ball is.
You also have to protect to win 17 and seven to Jaylen Brown, but he's going to have to sit.
Final 321 is the margins up to 11 Patterson in the paint no good but a foul on chip downie pick Jackson asking where it's coming from it looks like it's on Jalen Lewis and that's Louis his first down defense.
Well the question is was Patterson just trying to create something he was trying to create so when you got your top player he's the best Turner player, the best hands up for your best score, go out of the game ten.
Someone wants to step up and you got the senior the captain of the team trying to wheel this relay team to a victory.
Patterson, a senior.
Staley is senior.
Trevon State, a senior.
Everybody else we've seen tonight is going to be coming back next year to Douglas margins, 11 3736 coming up on 3 minutes to go, Regulation double team in the corner, Target Jackson has it now and he's going to be picked up by Trevon Steve and they'll back it back out and start it all over again D.J Bryant double teamed up high trying to find an opening.
PJ horn is wide open there you can give it to him.
They pulled it back out.
That was smart basketball John if you question any pass don't pass him pull the ball out through Stewart Patrick Jackson this is Chase now as you found that was Dean Smith was doing a basketball for CORNISH John and his peers at the high school level.
And that's not the reaction you have with 226 down ten.
And there's still some basketball left, John, but you can't go ahead and give up mostly, you still have to stay in the game even when you do found out Jaylen Brown, Jay Brown misses the first three.
So get 13 and extend it to 11 with 26.
No.
P.J.
Horn battling for the rebound picked up by Giddens instead quickly up the floor but batted out of bounds by Tiger Jackson once again hands in the passing lane.
Hey, John, this kind of makes me think about the Super Bowl offense versus defense, number one offense versus the number one state.
So you've got the same atmosphere tonight with both into it down county.
You've got a great offensive team there in Wheeler, but you got an awesome defensive team there in Chip County and it looks like the defensive team is going to be the one to come the next.
And Addison drains the three from about 23 feet six.
Doug Lipscomb is going to take a fall as.
The margins now 47 4209 Here's your love lined up.
Light it up.
That was a good contest.
Defensively, he shot it for about 24 feet.
You'll take that shot ten times or more in this position you to take that John than to give up a foul and he's the basket down low that's only their second three of the evening Trevon Steve had the other 249 15 Jeff County not much better PJ Bryant hitting all three of those is a two and a quick foul Well seven point game with 2 minutes to go It's about pressure Go for the steal go for the trap.
You got to find someone who you're going to foul this tip.
County team John is not shooting the ball well we feel comfortable with the foul and then when you get the ball offensively you want to pick it up The best opportunity to score sometimes is a three.
Sometimes it's a two.
But you want to pick up a basket instead of dictating what type of shot you do want that for.
The field goal numbers really for 9 to 5 from seven, there's Patterson, he just hit the three.
He's playing with four fouls.
There's a quick grab ball Abdul Rahim with the foul It's his first and yes there are two up there.
He's continuing to win the tradition of Abdul Rahim Rahim's Ball and Malik Malik is a senior.
Bilal is a junior, going back all the way to the days of Sharif.
So the Abdul Rahim pedigree continuing, a double, double double that's going it's a tip to come back and a more of a soft zone.
Man to man four Take the paint to take the drive, give up the three point side on the perimeter.
D.J.
Bryant hits the three look for Wheeldon to set ball spins and transitions.
High ball screens is going to try to look to take over.
You know that sometimes you might want to switch that ball screens on or even traffic if he continues his shooting success.
Doug Lipscomb swapping out offense for defense possession by possession.
Staley back in Giddens back in Easton with the basketball it looks like a foul on pick Jackson as Patterson was trying to clear himself that would be pick Jackson's first hits now John you a double bonus got two free throws at the line both sides and you know you put in wheeling and possession and we've talked about this all weekend late when you're down it's harder to score when this team the clock is stopped That's one of them go the margins 8 minutes to go.
Regulation for the quick foul on the inbounds of the rebound by Wheeler.
Swapping out defense for offense again Patterson hits it and in all by himself PJ Brown but pulling it out picks Jackson's smart play finally fouled and see if it goes to Easton or Abdur-Rahim and John think of the basketball mindset number 20 for Horn.
He's a freshman, received a baseball pass.
Most people thought he would have attacked the rim, but he got it out of his hands quickly.
No, it's not a good deep, free throw shooting and got it in the hands of Jackson.
The junior foul was called on the beginning of the year seven.
Those free throws rolls in off the front of the rim to Jackson puts the margin 5042 minutes 55 for regulation Abdulrahim out and I'm going to see this for the rest of the game that's been subbing out fouls for offense when he has the opportunity Giddens Patterson Eastman Staley and speed right now for Wheeler Bounce pass intercepted pick Jackson looks like he's going to pull it up he does gives the time to Jackson and Chase begins and they haven't called a foul yet There it is And John late game execution A-plus to a tip Carney's doing utilizing the clock spreading the floor.
They're taking great shots.
There was no foul.
And more importantly, John, they hitting their free throws here in the clutch.
Foul on Giddens.
His third 91 seconds away, just counting from a title.
Both free throws, good margin back to ten sticking to their man to man John you see and coach giving the fist their man to man signal he's encouraged him play smart now play smart no unnecessary fouls.
Play smart with nine points in the fourth quarter.
He now has 17 margins up to 11 and 5342 is going to have to act quickly.
Patterson drives and is that five?
That's five on Patterson.
John, go back to Ricky's wheeler, play hard, play smart and play together.
That was a heart move to the basket, but not a smart decision because you made your decision up even before you even received the ball in his had it all the way to the basket.
They received his fifth foul foul on Easton on the reach in and that might be five on Eastman Patterson fouled out with nine points and Easton fouls out 5000 points Abdur-Rahim will check back in Jaylen Brown found out at the 321 mark Avery Patterson fouled out on that drive 2 seconds ago and now Makai fouled out here.
John A thought comes out of my mind right now and you talked about talent.
Is this will a team talented?
No doubt yes there more college prospects on that team than they are on John Tip talent but Tip County played with a sense of urgency they played with a of heart.
They played with a mindset of not losing this game.
And I think that's the reason why they're going to come out on top.
Let's see what happens here.
Missed the dunk.
Tried to put an exclamation point on it.
Tom Jackson and a foul by Malik Catchings.
You see, you're like, here's your hit.
Your eyes just get really big.
And I mean even since the back of his neck there John everyone here in the Coliseum got up on their feet for that one.
And all he had was rim to show for it those free throws.
Good grind of 19.
But John, that's the type of attack mindset that this tip County team has had all night long.
Be aggressive, be tenacious.
Do not be afraid of wheeling seven of ten this quarter from the free throw line.
Bryant now has 20 foul with a minute four and John utilized his two words need and want him.
Let me explain myself with quickness if you're wheeling it doesn't him you need this game to get back to where you want to be.
You're there.
You've got the team to do it.
But you need this win to get your program back.
But if you coach Harlan, you want this win.
Why?
Because this is that first state championship and boy, is it going to feel good.
These two met each other in 1996 in the semifinals when Tip was number one, Wheeler was number two, the miss.
They're just going to come out with it.
Tip County won by 23 on their way to beating Beach in the championship in 1996.
Pablo Mercado was the man the middle for the Blue Devils.
Machado would end up going to Georgia Tech.
And so now Todderick Jackson has been leading tip counting and we'll be helping out that man on the flats starting next year.
Margins 1750 county runners up in 1954 to do it Hill 1961 to head one in 2004 to South Gwinnett and with 49.2 they are that close to bringing the six eight title to South Georgia easy to their end and Dr. Harlan wants to empty out his bench.
We last score with 201 to go before that bucket there to make it 5944.
And this is a special feeling when you're up late in the game, when you can get a lot of your student athletes in to share in that experience.
Well, first of all, let's let's let's talk about reload.
They're in the right direction.
They're getting better.
And Coach Liston knows that.
It's not about hard work.
Embrace this right here.
Embrace this moment because you will be back here again, Wheeler will you will be back here again next year and you have a chance to redeem yourselves.
But Tim County, hats off to coach and what he's done, where they come from and how this team John has carried has characterized hard work and dedication on the court tonight, taking down the giant and those orange shoes that Dr. Holland's wearing probably will be worn until further notice.
Will because of the Christmas present from his wife.
He's going to go eight knowing them.
He owes his wife a new car, dinner or something because the coach on Brand has brought home a nice big championship ring.
Ain't no in those shoes ever since Christmas.
The three pointer by Elijah Staley is good tough D down the line here sit down.
He going to pull up jumper No and points on the board talk about first time champs new blood getting their names in the record books Jonesboro got their first last night tips down he's going to get their first in 18 years over and John we've talked about this throughout the broadcast a little bit at the beginning, but basketball is back in the south.
We're going to count it and a foul with 3.9.
The southern parts of Georgia know how to win championships here on the hardwood.
Stephen Waters picks up his third foul.
And we talked about it a lot.
We talked about it in another wave of Tip County.
Kids will come in and continue to share in the experience because you can say that I was on the floor playing for my school and we are our state team and I'd love to know who the printer was that had that forethought and let clock run out here.
My Johnson find that basketball and take it back to Charleston.
Dr. Eric Holland gives the Blue Devils a championship through is still featuring going to the links tremendous effort on both sides of the ball tonight by Tip county and you mentioned it that in Wheeler we're going to see a team that's going to come back while they lose three seniors.
Yeah there's a lot of folks who are juniors and sophomores back Wheeler isn't going anywhere now Wheels not going anywhere John But the night belongs to Tip Town.
A delight belongs to How is this program?
The students.
And I'm just so happy for them.
Send it over to Raven Tirado with a very happy man.

Your fans were fantastic.
Talk about the people that have backed you all season long.
All the fans been fantastic all year long.
We got the best players in the country.
They rotted out there with us, 24 seven.
And I know we packed out making central players with all the white t shirts and Tim kind of, We did it for you.
We did it for you guys.
We laid it on the line.
Our motto this year was Do it with somebody else besides yourself.
You want to put this community our back.
And these guys answered the bell.
Year after year.
We've had two so much at birth this year and we want to overcome that.
Our thing is this Success is not about winning the loss, but it's about what's out there overcome.
And we've overcome so much.
And I'm so proud of these guys standing behind us.
They laid it on the line and we did it.
We did it.
Coach 1996 was the first one.
12 and 14 is the second one.
Congratulations.
Thank you so much.
Go, big blue.
All right.
The Blue Devils are Tip County, the 20 1460 state champion.
And now we bring in Claire Sims and Grace Olsen.
Hey, girl, talk a little bit about your thoughts.
It's been 30 hours, three days of just some great high school whoop.
There was enough energy around here throughout these last three days to last a lifetime I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It makes me proud to be from the state of Georgia, where it's been a lot of fun and it's all about these kids.
And this is going to be something they remember for the rest of their lives.
And I'm just so glad we get to be just a little part of that.
Talk about the social media just for a little bit.
You had people all over the world watching.
Social media has created a whole nother platform for everyone to engage, to hear viewers comments.
And I've thoroughly enjoyed hearing what everyone has to say.
Watching from home.
You had people today watching from Thailand, from Canada, from Hawaii, from all across the because they can watch online.
So that's a really cool experience.
Not to mention my brother watching Indianapolis, Indiana.
Your brother's always watching us in Texas, out where you are a great co host us up there.
We had 30 hours of coverage.
Just kind of your final thoughts as we wrap things up here on GPP.
