championship ghsa at the caulkwood county packers coming in from region 1 at 11 and 3 and coming up against the north gwinnett bulldogs 13 and 1 but it feels like a wind chill 26 degrees 9 mile per hour wind as we are about to get ready here for a kickoff here in swati larry smith here with the legend tommy palmer here in swaney for this class 7a uh match-up and what a contest we have got here this standing room only crowd tonight let's start with the players starting with concord county and a young man j.j peterson everyone knows about him and he has really come through this year number one in your program number one in the hearts of colquin county packer fans great linebacker has not announced where he's going he's going somewhere we'll find out at the end of the game and if you like him you'll love ty leggett as well another key player for coach pope's packers number 31 ty leggett he is a running back supreme and you will get to see one of the best running backs in the state tonight ty leggett is the real deal and once again uh kolk would try to win now their third state title in the last four years on the other side we mentioned north quinn net shooting for their first ever championship and uh one of the keys there jane mcdonald and what a playoff run he's had well for the last three or four weeks this guy's really turned it up another notch and he's the reason they're 13-1 coming into this championship game and uh he's a great linebacker number eight keep your eye on number eight for north gwinnett and then also ty good to another player to watch now for these bulldogs he runs it if you're gonna win this football game north gwinnett run the ball run the ball give it to five give it to number five he can really play absolutely north gagnet coming in 13-1 of the season let's go to the third member of our broadcast team tonight and john nelson on the sidelines john third number fourth member i'm going to be all over the place tonight the bottom line here there's an underlying story with what's going on in moultrie and it has to do with the future of rush probes in an interview with phil jones on fox sports radio in valdosta on wednesday he mentioned that he has had conversations with jeremy pruitt about possibly leaving moultrie and going up to knoxville to be a part of that and staff up at ut he has also said in that interview that he's going to wait until after the regular season is over and he told us before the game that there are also some other situations not just the one that everyone's linking him to that there seemed to be some interest with his future his pedigree here in the state of georgia is unquestioned chasing after another title when it comes to conqueror county so what's the future for rush probes we may not know but we also know that prior to the rush has said after this game he will go and help the alabama staff where jeremy pruitt still is to help them prepare for their game against clemson so there's an underlying thought there when it comes to colleges second underlying thought the future of j.j peterson could j.j peterson end up going where rush probes goes when it comes to that second level so that's another part of the whole subplot of all of this as rush props tries to tune all of this out to chase after yet another championship for conqueror county where conqueror county is concerned it used to be that they would just get into the playoffs work their magic on the road get here to a game 15 and chase after a title rush had a philosophical change a couple of years ago where he decided that okay here's the deal i want to win region titles i want home games so i can have all of that action down in south georgia and then come up north when i have to that happened up until this season he was the three seed coming out of region one six straight weeks on the road including the weather so how are they going to act with all of these subplots going on around them the weather the travel the futures it is a big subplot larry and tommy will be following that tonight we will also be doing live look-ins and updates to all the other five championship games going on in ocilla in tiger in atlanta in leesburg and everywhere else that you've got a game so we will have it all for you get your popcorn ready folks it's a cold night outside enjoy it inside larry and legend it is yours that's take a look right now caulkwood county is not there so a bit of a delay on the field because tommy uh north gwinnett the players are ready to make their big entrance but they want to be the home team as the home team coming out last they're waiting for the packers who are still in the locker room right now you know you take a look at this and and you have to take a look and here we are looking at the locker room all right here comes north gwinnett onto the field the bulldogs coming on and to be sure sooner or later concord county is going to come out of that dressing room in the moment they do we'll have a shot on it there you go that's right well as we talked before uh in the uh early on make your home away from home as you mentioned as john mentioned six straight weeks now they've been on the road out here they've made a lot of frequent road miles if you will trying to get back a beard atlanta how about this uh bulldogs team here north gwinnett bill stewart uh first year what a job he has done 13-1 and as he were in the title game for the third time in school history well when i take a look at this i think nobody in the state of georgia thought bill stewart was going to take northwind to the state finals the first year as a head football coach i don't know that bill stewart thought i'm sure he wanted to i'm sure he thought he probably had the right people but you've got to remember they've lost several key football players but boy they have bundled together to put together one of the best football teams in the state of georgia right now what a season they have had in the story you're right we're going to talk a lot about them and the adversity they went through this season and how they rebounded from it and at the point where he said you know what we may have something here uh with the pieces we've got here uh bill stewart what a job he has done here in his seventh season as a head coach overall 54 wins uh overall here for the uh in his career and i promise uh irzeo's mother that i would say hello to her husband who is in chile we hope you enjoy the game and i'm sure it's a lot warmer in chile right now than it is here in north burnett we will we will be happy to say to you mr arizana uh enjoy the game i believe i pronounced it right if i did not i do apologize and let me make sure i got it right i believe let's see yes it is uh jimmy urzua are up here in swaney but it sounds a bit like moultrie the packers traditionally their fans travel very well and they are here in mass tonight trying to see if their team from moultrie can win a third championship after going undefeated runs in 2014 and 2015. they get ready to take the field right now and uh again it means we're seeing a bit of the gamesmanship here if you roll from coach tropes at the beginning there he is i have no idea what the psychological value of this is but you can bet one thing this guy you see right here clapping his hands knows exactly what he's doing look at his numbers tenth season down there at caulkwood 105 wins uh seven state titles overall of course he was a legend over in hoover alabama with five state championships there and again going for his eighth overall and third right now uh with the culkwood county um as we get ready by the way uh you know they will have the ball first north gwinnett won the toss but deferred yes and and that's that's unusual usually the home team and a game of this magnitude will take the ball just to settle themselves down but uh hey anything can happen in this one and i'm not making any predictions in the other one uh the game i did last week i predicted 50 to 49 the final was 10 to six i'm not making i'm not making any predictions we're just going to enjoy a football game larry yes we are you know it was funny to walk in here there were people lined up three hours before the game waiting to come in uh it is a raucous crowd they brought in some extra bleachers in the end zone during this week to handle the overflow crowd what they expect people still coming in a lot of people are actually staying inside their cars sure as late as possible to try to stay warm and this tonight again with a wind chill that feels like it's uh it's below freezing larry it's cold here these football players will not be affected by it but uh we're gonna enjoy a great football game it's great football weather run he's taken conqueror county too larry absolutely good looking senior 6-4 205 you see there he starts out in the shotgun right now first down for the packers looking to his main man leggett he's got at the 30 out of the 35 first down to more 40. he's out near midfield legend oh what a way to start for caulkwood county into northwind territory right away what a play here on first down 33 yards on the reception for most people they don't realize this but this is the same thing as a toss sweep they got great blocking on the corner and leggett really turned it up came down the sideline yeah bell barn striker gang and howard they're across the front line and they've gotten the job done all season long into their wide receivers wilson hadley mcdonald singletary and leggett in the backfield yeah defensive side of the ball up front for north gwinnett walker webster denning and scruggs the linebackers morello stewart and the jaden mcdonald we talked a lot about and in the backfield harrell ridley turner and newsom [Applause] first down another pass very quickly josh hadley the tight end with the catch 6-1-13 he's a load and a good one i tell you what they're spreading it around early taking a look uh northwind brought heat they picked it up with the tight end good throw good catch so this packer offense moving uh very quickly after that uh that penalty ten yard holding going to start things off second down now three yards to go it's a man in motion he's got the ball that's leggett he's got a first down and more across midfield and into bulldog territory on the first run of the game for concord county 13-yard pickup a great pickup block on the corner watch the block on the corner here great block on 37. good blocking downfield boy conquered county has scripted this first series of downs perfectly well they've looked really good here and right now the bulldog deacon's trying to find a way to to stop them using all their weapons first down now just uh just under two minutes gone here in the first quarter class seven a championship game kazewski back to pass again all kinds of time now his pocket breaks down decides to run it good pick up here using all six four on that frame to get inside the 45-yard line and uh turn what could have been a sack into a few positive yards very good and very good blocking up front it just kind of broke down on the back end back there take a look at the the stunt on the left-hand side that's where it broke down coming from the back side and that flushed him out of there already right back up you notice through coffin county their offense moving very quickly right now no huddle already at the line four yard pick up on that second and six lots of time goes underneath that's a catch to cam singletary and he's close to a first down and it is a first down they'll move to chains one more look at it here look at the time tommy that he's got back there offensive line doing a great job he went to his third receiver on that one that is amazing that you have that kind of time good looking quarterback as tommy mentioned he's a uconn commit he'll head up to connecticut play for the huskies next year inside the 40 now first down again for caulkwood county it's a running play this time good defense by north gwinnett that the front four for north gwinnett really doing the job but when you add those two linebackers who really come up there and jump up in the face you gotta call out something what is it gonna be it's gonna be zone or area blocking no doubt and that was a sophomore running back dejon edwards on the carry their four stars sophomore already getting some um some different offers from the likes of uh georgia and tennessee 13 touchdowns on the season for him can play here we've got a penalty looks like it's on northwind five yards that way they're jumping their four men front i mean it looks into almost like a six-man front and that makes it six against five up there and it's just kind of throwing off the rhythm but i'll tell you about this guy right here that you just saw on your screen he's picking them apart right now he is five yards there on the pills he's so second down about four to go looking for legging he's got him there's a little swing pass good tackle right there by quinton newsom the junior safety coming up to make the tackle and uh of course a third down by the way for north gwinnett there are four d1 prospects in that secondary back there folks it's not like he's throwing against young people who are inexperienced they've got some e1 talent back there in that secondary all right it's a big third down play here for the bulldogs defense third and six and gracefully calls his own number and snuffed out right there great play there early on was number 71 not steading the senior defensive tackle great job by him and fourth down now for the packers boy this guy can play keep your eye on him too he's got a great future ahead of him do you go for it here do you go for the three points do you take what they give you let's see payne walker uh the senior also in on that tackle looks like they're going to go for the field goal he's got this range from 49 yards out this is ryan fitzgerald boy he can play he is a kicker falcon county trying to get on the board first uh that would be about a 65.

[Laughter] no worries did you say he had a leg yeah yeah he does have a leg yes he does this guy can kick it county hits gets on the board first a 49-yard field goal by ryan fitzgerald and so they take the opening drive down here in the opening four minutes and uh take a three-nothing lead let's go out to john nelson right now for more john all right we got the other five championship games going on around the state the first spot we're going to be taking an eye on is in central georgia rome and warner robbins going at it rome missed the field goal warner robbins went three and out after a strong defensive stand but you see the fumble there picked up by rome and they're going to stay on the offense with knox kaden but the tough defense for warner robbins keeping tight scoreless rome and warner robbins in 5a nelly thanks for that that scoring drive for the packers 10 plays 49 yards took three minutes 44 seconds and the backer's on the board first i love that he's a good old boy yeah he does he means no harm thank you thank you thank you very much so colquitt uh not ready to kick off and so we'll see north gannettes get the ball first and we talked to tommy earlier in our extra point segment the pregame about this balanced offense of the bulldogs and we'll get a chance to uh see them right away let's see what uh concrete county forces them to do offensively kick is in the air taking out the goal line out to the 15 and stopped right there boy what a big tackle 14 dj turner on the return and that's where the bulldogs will set up chop first a good look at their quarterback and boy what a story here jimmy urzua the senior taking over during the season for the bulldogs tommy yeah and the guy that he took over for is committed to go somewhere else and hasn't played all year played the first game yeah and then got injured how would you like to have a backup like this guy exactly yeah we'll talk a lot about him and the season that he has had and he is a big part of this uh this bulldogs team what they've been able to accomplish here in this 2017 season first and ten right now from their own seventeen a bad snap urzu has got to take it himself and he loses it gets it back though recovers his own fumble and boy what a tough way to start for the bulldogs that snap just kind of uh knuckleballed his way back to it knuckled its way all the way back and this guy right here is is a an all-state player right here i don't know what hit it must have hit the inside of his leg but boy peterson almost got that one right there j.j peterson a little minus seven on the play seven yard loss eric's in the center is a leader on this team and so now on the second down play it's a running play trying to get something going tyler goodson there's goodson trying to disrupt things and they're very anxious that may be an understatement but they're very anxious everybody's ready to get warmed up larry absolutely absolutely as we talked about this is one of the one of six championship games postponed from last weekend in mercedes-benz stadium because of the weather that hit north georgia third down and 13 still urzua going long he's got a man oh he overthrows him but he had him he had his man beat looking for number 22. uh lj fisher the senior wide receiver and it'll bring up fourth down and the bulldogs have to punt fisher had his man beat he you wouldn't think it was gonna be this way that's right wow three-man front for caulk county yeah grant rivers and merit for the packers that's up front the linebackers are lewis anderson rebels peterson and moore and then in your back real quickly for the packers christopher dawson and mcneil your region's bank lineup for caucus county we'll get the ball back here after the punch right here by northwind good defensive stance by concord county with some help from northwind on this one gets the punt away back at the 45 it's taken right there that's number two that's cam singletary reverses field he's got some room across midfield to the 40. singletary's still on his feet breaks the tackle almost breaks the taco gets it down to 30. and so the caulkwood county packards with the great return there a 38-yard punt and it goes to a 25-yard return for single tearing the packers and they set up chop in their second offensive series on the 30-yard line of the bulldogs tommy whoops to the see what he can do with it he is really a perfect size for a back in high school about 5 10 185 maybe 190 and he can burn it four yard pick up there for him and you're right what a big season he has had he'll be big tonight he's got it again no he's not it's a fake handoff and it dropped wow reception by josh downes the sophomore receiver boy arzua threw a perfect pass right to him and he just didn't hang on to it urzua with a perfect toss right here look at it bad place good good fake as well everyone looking at watching uh goodson locked in those linebackers too yeah sure did the slam's going to be open all night long if they run that play to the senior urzua now looking at a third down and six from his own 44. just under five minutes to go here bulldogs down by three to talk with county it's a man in motion will hunter there it is this time his reception oh and he drops the ball bryce fowler the junior and so north gwinnett now faced again with another three and out and uh case of the drops he's here tommy well basically the same kind of thing just kind of camouflaged it a little bit sending a man in motion and just run the receiver across the middle with the weight caulkwood counties playing aggressively with their linebackers everything's going to be open after about eight to 10 to 15 yards in the middle of the field somebody's going to have to pick up the slack for caulk but they need to discuss this on this exchange here for the defense and here we go fourth down they're going to go for it from their own 44-yard line the offense stays in the game that's urzua oh a quick drop kick wow and a dandy and what a play and what a great play they're running it down oh my goodness number 22. l.j fisher what a great job by him and uh to stop that ball caulkwood crack county that's uh john edwards the sophomore and we talked about what a season he has had again just a sophomore number it's a four-star yeah running back krazewski is five out of six for 34 yards and four runs for three yards two yard pickup there so now to the five to that uh very nifty play that put the packers deep in their own territory second down and eight now great play right there oh what a job wow by number 48 that was payne walker the big senior defensive end getting his mitts up and batting that off into the air and uh could have been an interception if they had found it but it brings up a big third down play now for this bulldogs defense the biggest difference in high school football is people are not afraid to throw it from their own two or three yard line now jessica almost caught the ball he did it's what a big stop here for the bulldogs if they can get it third and eight [Applause] treshes instructions from the sideline yeah he's changing the play changing the play [Applause] play clock winding down it's down to five krazewski looks over the middle and incompletes good throw intended for cam singletary just a little low a little bit low and so what a big defensive stop here by the bulldogs but look at the territory in the middle of the field that's open when you dog those linebackers like that you see all that space in the middle out there if he gets that up a little bit it's going to be powder river for somebody yeah well and that was a nice change again to see what the defense was doing change the play had the right play just couldn't make the throw right and so it is fourth down instead and ryan fitzgerald out to punt for the second time from deep in his own end zone good snap flag right there it's going to be it's a false start against the packers wow they're going to back them up to about the 2 yard line myers iii our referee tonight [Applause] looking at uh coach rush probst not a happy man at this point no that's that's score of 7-3 48-yard kick by fitzgerald from harm's way it's no fun kicking it out of that end zone no it isn't and so once again here let's see if the north canada can take advantage of their best field position so far their third uh time on offense on the field the senior zoo at quarterback now that's a lateral and sniffed out very well let's see if they make a difference that he can that's tyler goodson he's got running room first down and more inside the 40 of caulkwood county got to get him out in space and that's what they're doing they'll use him as a slot receiver they'll also use him as a running back boy he's got some good speed that doesn't take him long to get wide open what a year he has had 1300 yards rushing 19 touchdowns big play there 13-yard pickup down to the 36 now with the packers the motor urzua surface surveys the defense same thing get out the space he's got a blocker he can get around a nice play there and he gets some positive yards that's josh down the sophomore receiver downs he's already getting some activity from colleges across the country this guy's a sophomore in a 7a league and boy can he motor he can play he's got great size six yard pick up there down to the 30. bulldogs with some momentum now started by their defense the big stop to flip the field and now they're trying to get on the board here taken down to three minutes left in the first quarter seven a game [Applause] up here at northwind that's goodson with the carry stops and looks and big tackle right there by that's the man we've been looking for yep nice play and here it is again zone blocking found the hole very little there however good reaction by call quick counting those linebackers are really special for concord county number nine marcus anderson also number 33 dante moore in on that tackle big play there 3-4 set for concrete and it's a wildcat offense a direct snap there to goodson he's got the ball he's got a first down and more he's inside the 25 and a big play number number four jay ward there on the tackle good block on the corner two [Applause] spreading it out some trick plays here and there you mentioned tommy getting guys out into space and see what they can make happen here another first down bulldogs on the move trying to get on the board here in the first quarter urzua fakes the handoff throws all almost kicked off right through the hands of caleb dawson the senior safety and he knew he had it he did have it that was an ill-advised throw nothing was open in the middle of that time if you'll take a look at that nothing in the play safety you play whether he's the free safety or the strong safety boy this guy really got after it he recognized that in a hurry it looked like the defensive line kind of shifted to the left like it was going to be a run but boy the secondary did their job at home sure did eight-yard loss right there good look at urzua and the job that he has done as we talked about this season how about that of defensive struggles majeski he's under pressure again gets the throw down field and it's incomplete no flags on the field and that's the way the first half ends so my goodness defense all over the place we've seen big time interceptions we've seen a big sack we've had a lot of penalties for caulkwood county and we really in the first 24 minutes the same way we started tied 3-3 right now at halftime what's going on to john nelson now i know that you're tied you got points on the board with a really long field goal but i know the penalties are driving you crazy i mean absolutely nuts i mean that's just pure pure not real smart football right there i mean you know you got a guy that's been starting for 14 dang ball games and and we take a sack we don't use you know we we don't do anything right right there that resembles a 7a quality football team right there it's awful and then uh i mean we got best kicker in in high school football sitting right here you're gonna go in six to three at worst six to three and you know what that comes back and makes you at the end all right so then adjustments other than that i know obviously just putting the pedal down you're getting pressure on north gwinnett defensively too yeah i thought defensively we're playing pretty good you know and and i think that uh but it's a typical cold weather mid december football game as i remember them you know just like the nfl in january they're always going to be low scoring yeah they're going to be low scoring they're going to bowl down to a player two that's uh going to determine the game it's not going to be high scoring and and uh we're just going to have i'm starting with me we got to get some composure calm down go in and make some corrections come back out and play a adorable that baby is and then we've got our caulkwood county cheerleaders big smiles on their faces looking good too and this was on snapchat this is talk about getting in the game you know there's different content for different platforms so that was really cool and of course bulldog nations saying their band is lit we will check in with their band in just a little bit guys i gave you that baby picture a while ago and i said do you know who this is and you know what someone got it right it's colquitt county stephen krajewski and we're going to check in with his parents here in just a little bit well hold on yeah then you know you've seen what uh the krajewski family's been able to coming down here from michigan doing tremendous things when it comes to what it you know and it was an education for him to come from michigan and be in the jv games last year now that he's starting and it looks like he's heading back up north to be a starting quarterback when it comes to his his college years but i think that a lot of other colleges after this season we'll be looking at him a little further and you're going to catch up with them in just a moment i'm going to catch up with them in just a little bit like you said they've got a great story cool story now another part of what gpb's mission is here on a daily basis and a weekly basis here is to focus on distracted driving first crash he responded to was a multiple fatality with children and he quit he's not a cop right now i speak on distracted driving across the state constantly many times the person who gets injured in those crashes are not the person engaging in that poor choice it's other people on the roadways my daughter was driving through an intersection and was hit by another driver who wasn't paying attention i watched this car literally t-bone my baby in front of me the driver in the other vehicle front seat passenger her having a conversation she was cognitively visually distracted she was looking at her passenger and wind up running the red light and could have took my baby for nothing she got banged up a little bit her car got totaled out but she's okay we've got to change car crash fatalities as being socially acceptable distracted driving contributed to more than 3 500 people's deaths last year i'm just tired of it i'm just ready for us to kind of back up a little bit we're over 1300 fatalities since january in georgia if we had 1300 homicides since january we'd have task force everywhere we'd have no limit on resources our laws would mirror the way that we feel about it in our society we can make a decision and reduce the number of fatalities and crashes distracted driving is preventable today immediately great words from brian mixon there about distracted drive you got to make it not cool anymore you know that's the thing it's if you're in the car with somebody and they're driving and they're driving distracted make it not cool tell them to put that phone down back here at halftime about to start the third quarter and boy what a defensive matchup so far 3-3 caulkwood county and north gwinnett as we uh carry the crown the first ever 7a champion in the state of georgia the newly uh formed classification here in 2017. some highlights not many of them though here in the first half tommy palmer tie legged early on with the a big gainer here and that uh they've moved the ball down the field that's the senior kaczewski with the big catch to single terry and finally set up the 49-yard field goal and they made it a three-nothing game early on and that was a score for really much of the first half sure until later on big sack right here and recovery there by uh mcdonald on the other end that's goodson tyler goodson with the big catch a big run and then this the big play the biggest win on offense uh devin crosby the sophomore running back a 52-yard pickup winner goodson again he takes it down field goal attempt here after missing one earlier that one he gets to go cameron clark makes it 3-3 big play here on defense tommy with ward making the interception yeah and the thing that you like here is the unity of the team boy they all got the spirit of the thing here didn't they it's like a rugby scrum as you said john nelson what do you got okay so your first 24 minutes as a head coach in a championship game what do you think man you know obviously they're the same way so what were the conversations in there i mean was it about missed opportunities was it about hanging on to the ball what was it about it's more about uh uh just executing on both sides of the football and and fits and things like that you know just uh you know obviously you come out for a state championship game and there's going to be a few little wrinkles where there's been very little rhythm there have been two or three really good plays but then there have been those times where a team has not developed rhythm and that's the way you win football games is you get rhythm and and neither team has gotten into a rhythm as i call it right now you know we talked to bill stewart uh last week before that this championship was supposed to be played in the georgia dome this was supposed to be last saturday night inside i'm sorry inside mercedes-benz stadium old habits certainly die hard there's no question um but when you look at really you know coach stewart talked about that you know he said you know how limited and special these opportunities are uh he said you know we'd love to get a championship it's not the most important thing um but they do want to get a win here obviously and he talked about just the you know the teams they played and they had to beat um he said most teams that they played this year really uh you'll win at least two rounds in the playoffs parkview mill creek milton walton and mountain view i mean they went through just a murderous row if you will and then here tonight against uh the mighty caulkwood county packers and they play them even to the first 24 minutes yeah and then you turn around and you take a look at conquer county you know they were on the road early on as a number three seed then they turn around and they play an archer they play a brookwood they play uh walton in the corners yeah yeah so you know both teams are are battle tested but i would imagine at this point you've got a half left they're they're probably all battle weary yeah let's just see which one can come up with the adrenaline they need to win the football game i think you're right now uh the opening uh coin flip was won by northwind at the bay deferred so the bulldogs would get the ball here to start the second half as we again talked about some of the the numbers of very even numbers again on both sides here and if you can't tell it is a very chilly night the temperature is now dropped at 32 degrees with the windchill uh it feels like 25 degrees as we get ready for the heads-up georgia kickoff right now that is uh it's a good solid 25 degrees in it well it's a you know what's it but it's it's a dry chill it's uh you know oh is it i can't feel my fingers yeah ryan it's a little more chilled my brother playoffs on the road what did i tell you what did i tell you though they play better behind they play better without a sense of or with a sense of urgency what a great catch by the tight end just a little simple down and out and all he wanted to do was think yeah yeah i think well be smart at this point here's what happened just a moment ago once again on this uh the miss extra point it just you just said it just left that was an application penalty it never did spin like properly it had that front effect to it and right then tommy and you called it there at about the 549 mark you said hey listen this they've left the door open let's see what caulker can walk through it and they did yeah 11 plays 80 yards five minutes off the clock they never got in a hurry oh my goodness this is championship football as good as it gets larry it really is it is these stands that were rocking about five minutes ago now rsp as peaceful as almost as if no one is even in them so now the pressure back on the other side and the stands on the other side are rocking i'm sure aren't they they are full of people from moultrie georgia we can promise you that 49.5 seconds now and so it is concrete county the one point lead north gwinnett can they come back and go back on top and win their first ever state championship fitzgerald kicks it into the end zone and they bring it out to the 20. now the good news here no time goes off the clock if you are short with that and with all three timeouts remaining take over on your own 20. well i don't think they're gonna i don't think they're gonna play prevent here i believe they're gonna pressure north gwinnett here yeah two timeouts for both teams still remaining and 49 seconds is an eternity it is and here we go jimmy urzua the senior quarterback 12-0 as a starter first down play looks for his man fischer he's got him all bobbled the ball he gets it back 12-yard pickup it's a first down 13 yards on the game check that yeah good king can he cap it off for the state championship gets it to goodson he's back in the game after the injury he's passed midfield to the 45 and out of bounds and here we go another first down for north gwinnett still with 26 seconds on the clock another 20 yards we're in field goal distance 10-yard gain for north carnet and so we saw the cool calm collected of the caulkwood county offense north gwinnett matching the cool and we've got a timeout now by the packers wow 26.7 seconds left to regroup on defense let's go down to uh john nelson now for more all right we've got a couple games in play and one of the games in play is right here you see the time left regulation we are tied at 21. coffee and lee county the verdict is free football it's wide we go to overtime with coffee and lee out of region 1-6 a they need at least a fifth quarter yeah it was a low snap as you can tell boy when when when you get a low snap and the timing's off generally the kick is not good they went what some uh we've had some great games this weekend again six championship games tonight all across the state thanks to the weather last weekend that uh postponed them after the first two games were played at mercedes-benz stadium hate that these kids having a chance to play in the new dome up there but uh a chance to play for the championship okay first and ten of the forty five three-man rush by conqueror outstanding he's under pressure and he's thrown down and he fumbles the ball and it goes out of bounds at the fourth they're going to say he's down right there peterson yeah the all-american big time players make big time plays he just made one i think mirroring the quarterback got him down good patience right there and here's the bigger key now a lot of time ticked off the clock you're down to 15 seconds now yeah 11 yard loss on the play and a timeout by northwinette no i think it was about concord county yet again it was north carolina now we're seeing it yeah and they're putting some time back on the clock yeah well i think the reason why is i think that the clock's still running as the ball squirted out of bounds but the referee called it down when when he was down okay let's take a look at how concrete county got it we've talked about this amazing run all of these wins uh coming on the road here as they went to pebblebrook and routed them what a game against archer and then surviving walton and then lastly coming back up against the atlanta area beating three number one season atlanta area to get here there you go this would be number four this would be number four that is exactly right wow all right concord county one time out left north gwinnett one time out left conflict county wants the clock to run they don't need timeout triple set up there top of your screen jimmy urzua 18.5 left good protection that ball is thrown the intended target was giovanni cunningham the junior good coverage by call quick county out there that time marzulla had to throw it short and that brings up a third down but more importantly 13 seconds left on the clock yeah go back to that missed extra point earlier in the touchdown earlier in the fourth so well for them urzua was three of three when there's a penalty now against cauca county boy that's big wow 13 out of 2 437 yards for azure what was the call looks like it was a holden 10 yard penalties announced to the 46 third and 11. nine seconds to go horcrunnette has a timeout left urzua going for gonna go deep oh through the hands of lj fisher three seconds left perfect throat he'll be talking about that one before will many many years to come watch this and it's right there wow one more look at the end right there good job by caleb dawson to not be interfering in the neighborhood but not interfere you're exactly correct and so we see bill stewart calling his final timeout right now with three seconds on the clock and a fourth down play coming up and so the game will come down to this yeah north gwinnett 13-1 the number one seed out of region six third time in the finals trying to make the third time the charm bill stewart what a job you know we talked to him last week before uh the games were canceled he talked about feeling this you see you know he said there was times in the spring he said we're just not very good right now but he said but he saw some things that really came through later so the milton game was a big turning point for them yeah and they moved to center and and the offensive line gel that thing's gonna take off from there and with the people that he's had hurt this year they've done a marvelous job of patching and mending and making a run good look at stuart on the other side crush probes we talked about what he has done down there back to back state titles 2014 2015 and now here in a so-called down year one play away from a third state championship in moultrie and here we go fourth down play bulldogs down by one and we've got a flag [Applause] illegal substitutions so five more yards puts it on the 41. wow and again looking at a hail mary play so as you can see three defensive backs inside the five-yard line for caulkwood county and another whistle [Applause] some concord coaches are on the field [Applause] so it's another illegal substitution call against caulkwood county [Applause] five more yards they'll put it to the 36-yard line 41 that'd be a 51-yard field goal what do you think i don't think he has the leg call for three penalties for 20 yards in this drive three seconds left final play of the season in class 7a urzua going deep up high there's a penalty on the play down's trying to say that he has it i don't know but he caught up and see what the call is here's a replay downs going up oh my goodness he did not catch it no it's an incomplete pass interference defense pass interference on the defense first down and so north gwinnett with no time on the clock [Applause] we'll have one more play he doesn't i don't think he has a timeout [Applause] can't end on a defensive penalty yeah so we have one more play so because of the two penalties already making it from the well we had three penalties on the 44 uh of of north gwinnett went to the 46th of conquering then the 41 then the 36. he's going to let him kick it he's talking to him now want a ton of events here because now you are within probably field goal range because if you're down now to the 21 you're talking about about a 38 yard one more look at this play on the end you can see here going up and there's no question right there number three juicy lewis hitting uh number 11 downs before the ball got there so that's an easy call for the reps four penalties for 35 yards in this drive for colquin county well think of it this way northwind just moments ago they were struggling on third down on their own 44. right now they have a shot at a field goal on the 21 of conquering without with just penalties exactly with they didn't gain any yards on offense these are all penalties yep 10 20 35 would you say 35 35 yards four penalties four penalties here we go and so to your point it's on the 21 and so will reichert who missed the extra point earlier and missed a field goal in the first half has a chance now to give north gwinnett the first ever state championship exactly all right riley walker is the holder field goal attempt payne walker the long snapper no time on the clock the kick is up and it's good [Applause] 1917 how you like this tommy palmer that is a finish oh my goodness oh my goodness 38 yard field goal attempt good 38 driver with no time on the clock [Applause] 38 yards and puts it through by the way the 15-yard penalty with no time on the clock was the longest play of the drive and it cost coach probst and colquitt county their third championship in four years wow penalties were their achilles heel the entire game and it turned out to be a fatal blow for these packers from cockwood county it bit him one more time sure did at the end wow what a finish let's go down to john nelson on the side all right i saw what coach was talking to you about in the huddle for everyone around the world that didn't get to listen to it he was telling you this was house money go through that conversation uh it was basically saying how like every once in practice we do this every one of the team wants around me and he's just telling me i have done this before i can do it and he believes in me so i love him for that he's awesome coach run through wednesdays for me what's the clock is it 10 9 8 counting down or what's the what's going in that drill uh well basically there's three field goals and we keep backing it up and everyone on the team gets right around me on my back throwing stuff at me uh just just trying to give me pressure to make me better for this moment so i love my team for that you nailed it go celebrate and by the way remember to breathe thank you let's send it back upstairs so we'll be back in a sec trophy presentation the man will not have to buy any meal ever ever again in gwinnett county cameron clark cameron clark wanted what a finish for him misses the extra point comes back and hits the game-winner the thing that i like i saw coach stewart look him in the eye and say you can do this you can do this i was reading his lips he said you can do this and he did he did it no and the 15-yard penalty was the longest of the drive that was the longest ball movement of the drive that was amazing when you think about you look at what urzua did the three for three for 35 yards to start that drive and get them into conquer territory and then the big sack at that point they lose yards they're third and 21 and then the penalties kick in a 10-yard penalty a five-yard penalty a five-yard penalty and then the big one the pass interference down there where the player was turned around wasn't looking at it kind of an obvious call there sure the game cannot end on a defensive penalty as you know 15 yards down to the 21. he calls a timeout sends out cameron clark gives him the words of the but and it's amazing he talked about you know when we talked to him last week he said you know i don't really give kids big speeches no he doesn't i they kind of know what they're doing already exactly he knew what to do this is this is just doing in a game what they practiced every day every day eight plays 59 yards as we mentioned before so much of that again was on penalties by the packers only 49 seconds again conquered county scoring the touchdown and the go ahead uh extra point with just 49 seconds left they were cool common collected going down the field felt like they had the third title in their hands but this is why you play the games and the emotions of on this field from both sides the fan base is outstanding both communities the programs outstanding neither team expected to be here really again overshooting their expectations this bulldogs team hadn't reached double digits since 2013 and here they are in 2017 state champions all of the losses that call quick county has suffered this year have been painful last second if you remember yeah i think that's the way it's been the entire year for them they've lost them late this one will be remembered for many years to come as one of the most painful in concord county history well i think too because of the penalties when they when when they get over the emotion of this go back and look right they will see so many times that they had chances to to put this team away and the penalties from the from the opening drive they had it so many different times yeah and the thing the thing that also you have to remember is how smoothly they came back down the field and took the lead and gave north gwinnett the ball back they probably scored a bit too early with 49 seconds left on the clock if you remember [Applause] so 1917 and let's go back earlier in the fourth quarter cameron clark this is after a touchdown in the five yard penalty he misses yeah wide left this is the extra point made it 1610 instead of 17 ted yeah and and there's cameron clark right there but he comes back later and redeems himself from 38 yards out and uh this young man will be going to class for unions for decades to come and he'll be the one he'll be the one that hit it he'll be the guy and we'll always remember the press box rocking that's what field goal went through that's right wow in this north gwinnett program and now celebrates its first championship after missing twice in the finals in 2007 and 2013. by the way for caulk we talked about the penalties 15 penalties 109 yards for them for 35 there on that final drive and again the 38-yard field goal remember the name cameron clark and there he is number 93 somebody somewhere is already gonna at home there's an artist who's already gonna make some kind of artwork to put up i'm sure in the hallways town here class 7a championship let's go down to john nelson all right let's talk to someone who was kind of in the pile most of the day have you had the chance to catch your breath yet after being in the trenches all day jayden i mean we fought hard man coach told me every time i got tired he told me just fight through it fight through it man get the ring i'm just i just want to thank my team man these fans everybody man i'm just really happy go through this last drive in your head where you're having to watch the offense take it down the field knowing they're the ones that have to get the points on the board i mean every time i mean we knew big play is going to happen because it's a state championship game so coach told us anytime something big happened just play next play make the next plays last play so you got to play it like that play religiously have you played that's what we did i know like stuff might not win our way at the end but that's what that's what we'll see what happens man we just rely on other teammates and they get it done so you lose your first game coming out of the blocks at the kell then you go on a roll you go on a roll and you keep winning and you keep winning and you keep winning to get to this day has it sunk in yet what you guys have been able to do this year yes i mean every every week in practice coach and we get out there every day we get out there every day after the first game coach told us he knows he knew what this team was capable of so we went in every day every week and put in work and you seen the results congratulations my friend you are now officially the state champ shane mcdonald state champ send it back upstairs yeah he went through his hands all right what do you think buddy yeah we've got people here are still buzzing about exactly what happened on that uh that defensive uh interference play right there you know i go back to what what bill stewart talked about and he said one of the first things he said tommy when you and i were talking to him he said you know from the start the kids bought in yeah and and and you know mcdonald's talked about that here right there he said you know in spring he mentioned you know what at one point he thought gee we're awful they said some days are better than others but you know that's what this is all about that's what sports is about that's what football's about that's what life is about well um to to to keep at it let me let me put it this way if i can do a short analogy of what happened sure we saw the greatest example of young men being a team tonight this was a great effort even with time against them they did what they needed to do to win the ball game yeah tommy uh you are a legend and it is always an honor my friend my buddy we we go way back you and i three for five years uh where does this rank for you and in the games that you've seen you've got to be one of the better games i i don't remember ever seeing but one other game in my broadcast career where a field goal wanted on the last play of the game that's great it's amazing it's a great game listen we're blessed people we get to watch good football games and boy did we see one tonight and we get to see just some uh and some fan some fantastic uh young men uh as you said and the coaches as well and and they're you know by the way by the way is our spotter uh elijah smith he just became an eagle scout tuesday night so gotta get in get in get in the thing for the buzz for him but but but tommy you know it is uh when you talk about it again in terms of seeing this kind of play and seeing right just the chess match going back to the beginning what we saw of rush cross waiting for didn't bring his players out the field right away i mean the chess match began before the first kickoff sure and then you see conquer county and tribute to them using the clock going all the way down the field driving playing better from behind then leaving 49 seconds on the clock and then the four penalties coming down here this was a classic example the last five minutes of this football game was example of teamwork on both teams both teams played well they they they didn't leave anything on the field they played their hearts out tonight and and we owe them a both uh a debt of gratitude larry we really do we really do you look at we talked about as we've got to look there at cameron clark the hero of the night and again and so many great analogies life analogies you know what if at first you don't succeed try try again get another shot and he was absolutely perfect your quarterback jimmy urzua again taking over the senior quarterback began as the back-up kate forten who was the star of the team he's going to head to texas a m next year breaks his leg in the second game all urzua does is go 13-0 the rest of the way and bring home the state championship i'm telling you it's a great football game we we were honored to call this one and it was a great one hey what can i tell you yeah this is as good as it gets in high school football cameron clark outstanding 14-1 north gwinnett finishes the season and they've got a lot of young players uh coming back we talked about goodson the young star it's just a junior he said one of the best running backs in the state there's no question he got banged up came back on and had some key plays there late in the game you know you can't say enough about this program and take nothing away from concord county and what they have done and rush probes he's got some decisions to make coming up it sounds like we wish him the best there's no question what he has meant to the game of football can never be measured but tonight is north gwinnett's night and like you said just stay with that with 49 seconds left on your own 20-yard line and even though again they got they got it moving the first three plays and then stalled but they never gave up and let conquered make the mistakes when was their time they came through right and and my my thanks to the guys in the truck they made this a wonderful night you guys are the best i love working with you guys boy they were great weren't they yeah coming down that stretch oh always the great camera work we saw again on the uh caulkwood county punt that went off the north quinet player right a great cam work there to show exactly that the ball hit him in the back of the head the great work here on the final play of regulation that the the defensive penalty sure the great work there to show that the ball was actually incomplete uh but there's no question there was a penalty so in the field and then the field goal as well the different angles of that yeah it is it's i i can't think of a more fitting way it's unfortunate that again that these kids couldn't do this in mercedes-benz stadium last week but mother nature had other ideas and mom's rule as we all know but you know what that's true there's there's no better other than that there's no better way to finish off the 2017 uh ghsa season right here in gpb than with this kind of match-up uh the the emotions of this when you think about northwind taking the lead the touchdown and then the missed extra point conquer coming back the touchdown pass the tight end 49 seconds looks like they're going to win it and then the bulldogs come through where they started this year where they finish that's that's why we play the games that's why we love the games that's why we love this game it's the best game going folks i'm telling you outstanding we talked about again their run northwind the way they ran through and coach stewart saying you know look at the teams that we had to beat almost every team that we beat went too deep in the playoffs is a murderer's role and if this is a harbinger of things to come this class 7a right in the future this is just year one of this boy listen there's some talent out there there's some talent there is no question 1917 the cow north gwinnett the bulldogs winning their first ever state championship uh in their third trip and so they surely do as the uh the old saying goes made the third time the charm tonight know swanny a chilly night with temperatures that wound up below freezing uh but i can tell you what there are people down there probably without coats on that don't even feel it i saw a couple of coaches walking the sidelines with short sleeve shirts on come on folks let's not do that to us you know this is exciting john nelson's down right there let's go down to nelly john nelson take it away all right we are here amongst a sea of red the hounds of justice happened at the last i hear you yeah it was unbelievable i mean it's a god thing these guys these guys were destined to do this uh you know what they've been playing like a family you know and we always talk about forget about me i love you and that's what these guys did all year and uh you know they're a talented bunch they've been gifted and and uh praise god we got here go through that last talk that you were having with the kicker i mean i was listening to it you were telling this was house money this is every wednesday that this happened yeah and you know i told him it was house money on we didn't deserve that chance you know like we we got the chance but but at the end of the day you know this was an extra one we didn't know we were going to get and so that you know i was just trying to take the pressure off of him on let's kick this thing you know let's let's make this thing happen and so uh unbelievable he did that you know and and you know for a guy to do that after he missed the extra point and then come back and kick a field goal like that in that moment it's unbelievable has it sunk in what you've been able to accomplish this year you lose your first game coming out of the blocks you come back you lose your starting quarterback who is heading to an sec school everybody steps in next man up you win you win you win and you win the last game of the year yeah and even this game i mean we had uh you know my will linebacker broke his collarbone and then uh you know and then my mic linebacker my son was you know his arm was dangling and stuff and so kids kept playing people had to jump in and uh and that's what they did all year and and so every game and even in the playoffs everybody's had to step up and it's next man up but they've been doing it because they're connected and they're connected as community and that's and that's how we've won yeah i haven't it hasn't sunk in let me ask you this one last question yeah you got to do this with your son oh my god how cool is that that's unbelievable i mean i can't can't express it you know for for uh uh us traveling over here and doing this and and and uh yeah clark people will be telling this story for years to come that's his missed kick earlier in the game which for a while we thought was going to determine this game and then he's got the pep talk with bill stewart he looks at him he says you know what i believe in you i think he can do it and here is the final play of the game no time on the clock and he wins that state title first ever for north gwinnett welcome back john you have been gone you have been out there you've got a giant glow on your face too it's called freezing nick well there's freezing there's happy there's all the emotions i mean both of these teams what a game and you know when when you have these championships and we call it old school just at the beginning of the evening we called it old school because it's home sites and all around the state you got to sample what it was like tonight for what it's like in environments like this and for us to be able to be here in suwanee to see north gwinnett win a title to see a dad be able to share a title with his son who is a linebacker on the team it's just a lot of these different little story lines that came for you and you get a field goal at the last from a kicker who had struggled earlier in the day and it was just cool to be able to be here and be able to tell these stories tonight i'm getting all of these tweets and things online where people are saying you know what forget this is the best high school football game you've ever seen for some people this is the best football game you've ever seen this is unreal and this in when you had a game that had so many ebbs and flows that it had you had leads back and forth you had the game was tied at the break at three and then you had a touchdown then you have a missed p-a-t at 16-10 and all this stuff's going back and forth and you end up with a result like we had here it was a tremendous end of the season what are the folks saying on the twitters by the way i've had to narrow it down john because obviously right now they're saying a lot of things online but we did ask a question earlier we said how far away are you watching from and the fans always surprise us we've got someone here that left you know we said gosh you know that's a long field he kicks it to the end zone they're 80 yards away but we were not planning on 35 yards of penalties and that's that that's just the way it worked out you know and i wanted i think that after the sack of of urzua they were third and like 21 with maybe like 19 seconds left and never actually they didn't gain any more yards themselves it was all penalties but you have to snap the ball and do the things exactly and they put themselves in the right spot for clark mcdonald yeah you did he did tell me that once once he got warmed up he was unstoppable he was everywhere mirroring the quarterback i mean he was all over the place throwing people around but like you said tommy he was having a great time yeah he was enjoying the game but i will say this for both teams we we saw four of as good of running backs as you'll see conquer county and also for north gwinnett these were just great football players look at this oh i'm telling you when he got heated up it got interesting out there didn't it serious yes so now let's talk about the other action that happened tonight tommy let me start with you okay the the cliff's notes honest with you the biggest surprise to me had to be number one blessed trinity and then number two hipville charter and the reason is is because marist beat them 25-24 the first time they played and uh then this time i think marist had really a tough time getting any offense going against blessed trinity they really got going with their linebackers obviously but then the other was you know when you think about raven county they've scored so many points the highest scoring team in the state of georgia hateful charter shut the mill house down as we say in my section of the state at their place
