This is a tiny iceberg and this is the guy that got it.
This is Jeffrey, the captain of David B vessel.
Can you tell me a little bit about where this came from and how you got it?
We do a lot of ice fishing, catching icebergs, and we do it when we're up in front of the glaciers in places like Glacier Bay National Park.
We have the permits to operate in Glacier Bay, and we go in there for six days of an eight day trip typically.
And one of the things we do is pick up icebergs.
But there's also a lot of really cool things, to see and do.
And we spend a lot of time anchored in front of glaciers, going for hikes around glaciers and seeing lots of amazing wildlife.
So how old is this particular piece of ice?
They aren't sure, but the estimates are that it's between 600 and 1000 years old.
Holy cow.
It's insane.
That's a long time.
That's a long time.
The glacier itself.
The ice field that forms it is probably 10 to 20,000 years old.
The ice in that.
