- Grandparents as Parents is a program of the Knoxville Knox County Community Action Committee.
I think the Office on Aging back in 2000 saw a need of families raising their grandchildren and they decided to start a formal program.
- The Grandparents as Parents program has really helped support us in the fact that they have opened us up to resources we did not know exist.
- Their support network is absolutely, 100% necessary.
If you didn't have that, I think it would be really super difficult.
- [Tracy] A lot of times, grandparents, when they call in, they say that they feel alone, that like there's nobody else doing this.
And in fact, there's a large population of relative caregivers that are out there.
- [Jeffrey] So what time is that?
- [Tracy] Grandparents as Parents wants to have a focus of building community around grand families and trying to alleviate isolation and a lot of loneliness in this grand families community.
