(bright upbeat music) - Voodoo Theatre Company's "Grasmere" explores creativity, emotional complexity, and the tensions within close relationships through a contemporary lens.
Joining us with more information is artistic director Patrick Kibbie and actor Tyson Baker.
Good morning.
How are you guys?
- Great.
- Awesome, yeah.
- Thank you so much for having us.
- So excited to talk about "Grasmere."
Can you tell us what it's about?
- Yeah, the play is about Dorothy Wordsworth and William Wordsworth, William was a poet in the early 18th century, and them living in a cottage in Grasmere, England.
And some old friends stop by their cottage, Samuel Coleridge, who was also a contemporary poet, at the time, and their friend, Mary Hutchinson.
And it's about the writing process.
It's about the connections between these four characters, especially the brother-sister relationship between William and Dorothy.
It's a kind of a fictitious speculation on what their relationship was like.
- Very interesting.
And Voodoo Theatre Company had a longstanding presence in the community, bringing plays like this to life.
- Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Thank you.
We do our best to bring in shows that aren't normally done in Utah.
Our main focus is to produce shows that actors wanna be in and audiences wanna see.
So we rely heavily on our actors on picking our plays and shows that they wanna do and shows that audiences in Utah don't normally get to see.
- And a lot of times, people are like, "Can I afford to go to this play?"
But you guys have a special offer for people, right?
- We do.
If you put PBSUTAH into the promo box, you'll get $10 off tickets.
- That is incredible.
So everyone needs to come out and play.
What character are you playing in?
- I'm playing Samuel Coleridge, the friend who kind of shows up.
Latoya Cameron's playing Dorothy Wordsworth, Carleton Bluford, William Wordsworth, and then, Anne Brings' playing Mary Hutchinson, all directed by our awesome director, Tracy Callahan.
- Well, that's incredible.
