(bright music) - In partnership with the Great Salt Lake Yacht Club, Grow the Flow is hosting a sailing regatta on the Great Salt Lake to fundraise and bring awareness to the rescue efforts.
Danor Gerald and Jake Dreyfous join us now today to talk about this exciting event.
Thank you so much for being here.
- Yes, thank you for having us.
- Yeah, thank you so much.
- And is this something that has happened before?
- Yeah, so this is actually gonna be the first time in five years that Sailfest happens.
And that's because of the low water levels at Great Salt Lake.
So thanks be to God for two really awesome snow years in a row.
Those have brought the lake levels up and the sailors are back in the marina.
So we're helping partner with them and celebrate our Great Salt Lake on June 15th.
- That's incredible, and I bet it's a beautiful sight to see all of the ships out there, all of the boats out there and people enjoying and having fun, right, Danor?
- Absolutely.
And one of the highlights of this is the cardboard boat race.
So bring your kids and they can make a boat out of cardboard and race them inside the marina.
It's a very popular and fun activity.
Mostly it's to see which boat gets the furthest.
(laughs) - And we're gonna have live music, food trucks, art workshops for people to engage with, naturalist walks to learn about the lake, hear from other Great Salt Lake organizations.
It should be a really fun day.
- Wait a second, I wanna bring it back to the boat race.
Are there any prizes?
- Yes, well the winning boat will get a prize, but opportunities are there to help, I guess, sponsor boats.
And that way, the prize is to get more awareness and to help with organizations that are supporting the lake.
So really the prize is to get to keep the lake.
- Absolutely.
And I hear there's also gonna be a dinner and a bonfire as well.
You guys have a lot of incredible things for people to check out at this event, right?
- Yeah, there'll be raffles and activities and things.
- Yeah, we'll have an opportunity drawing with ski passes, guided fly fishing trips, spa treatments, kind of a nice range of things.
And as Danor was mentioning, yeah, we've had really awesome support from local businesses sponsoring the sailboats and getting involved.
- Wow.
Sounds like a fun time.
And I wanna make sure people get the information so that they can check this out.
We have it there for you on your screen.
It is Grow the Flow Sailfest 2024 happening on June 15th from 10:00 AM until sunset at the Great Salt Lake Marina.
