This is the lower rose bed.
You would never know because it's plump full of snapdragons right now.
Which I love snapdragons, they're so fun.
I'm Emily Ford.
I'm the head gardener here at the Glensheen Mansion.
I've been here for ten years.
We are really turning a corner to tap into education more here at Glensheen.
And, you know, we think about that, in a place like this, you're like, okay, meeting that history requisite for like K-12.
Going through the big house, talking about, the era, you know, early 1900s to the mid 1900s and what that looks like.
So a lot of students learn that way.
But then when we take it out here, it's a little bit more complicated as far as education goes.
And I'm kind of combing through that a little bit more.
But my hope pretty much every day is that it, the way that I grow things at least sparks a little bit of curiosity, mainly in adults, right?
But gardening holds STEM and arts, right?
Science, technology, engineering, maths, you know, and arts all in one spot.
Every day I get to be artistic, and design and plan, think about colors.
I get to work with insects.
I get to work with turfgrass, which is so sciencey.
And then thinking about, just like, the build, you know, like the engineering, the mechanics of this entire place.
It's it's literally, it's everything you could want all in, all in one job.
You know, if you have a brain that that that needs multi-disciplinary.
And then I get to watch it grow.
And I get to start over every year, you know, and maybe something new will come up.
Or, I get to watch things like, you know, there's some apple trees along this boulevard over here that represents where the greenhouses used to be.
I grew them when they were really small.
I get to grow with these apple trees.
Not not many people get to do that, essentially, So I feel really lucky.
I think about the now, and the past and the history, but also looking into the future.
