At the turn off the century, West Michigan with its lush forests, was a hotbed for furniture making. In 1905 local businessmen Herman Miller and Jacob Elenbaas turned an old Zeeland canning plant into a factory making furniture. Over time, Herman Miller as we know it would pivot from traditional to contemporary design.
