- What a great crowd we have here at the Harmon County Civic Center.
Now name the Cross Insurance Arena.
It's always the Civic Center to me.
Love this place.
Love when it gets busy.
In today the Grain de Gloucester Patriots and the Ham Academy Broncos the number one seeds in the south and the north while battle for a gold ball.
I'm Rob Kennedy, along with Brandon Terrell.
This is gonna be a great matchup.
I'm looking forward to this one all week.
Yeah, - Buckle up.
This is gonna be your classic clash of styles.
Gray New Gloucester is, has a stable full of Clydesdales.
They're gonna push the tempo up and down the court.
Hamden Academy has one of the most experienced coaching staffs in the state and the Mr. Basketball finalists to counter with.
- Let's talk about Hamden Academy first 19 and two.
Russ Bartlett's teams always seem to fire up when it comes to the postseason.
- Yeah, coach Bartlet has four gold balls already in the trophy case.
He has four more regional championships and he added Earl Anderson to his bench this year.
Legendary main coach who just won the gold ball with the flag twins in the comas two years ago.
- Greg Lavinsky is over with Ross Bartlet.
Let's toss it to him right now and hear from the coach.
- Well this one feels like a true state championship North and south.
What have you seen from Gray, new Gloucester and and how do you approach this game?
- Obviously they got great quickness.
Their ability to get down the floor and transition is a huge concern.
We'll have to be careful how much we offensive rebound today.
'cause obviously getting back's gonna be a lot more important - The run through the north.
What'd you learn about your team and what do they need to do this afternoon?
- You know, this afternoon we're gonna do a great job guarding the basketball and then we gotta go do a great job taking care of the basketball.
If we can do those two things, we got a shot here today and if we turn it over then they'll beat us.
- Everyone knows Zach, but who else do we need to know?
- You know, JJ does a lot for us and then the three younger guys are all kind of been learning on the job and just need to do their jobs today and that's guard, guard, guard and take care of the basketball.
Alright, good - Luck coach.
Thank you guys.
Back to you.
- Thanks very much Greg.
We'll talk about the gray new Gloucester Patriots right now and this is huge news in gray.
New Gloucester, they're playing for a gold ball for the first time since 1975.
They knocked off Nar Wagu and Class C that year.
Haven't been back since.
You didn't hear the name Hebert a lot today when we talk about the Patriots.
- Yeah, - It's been a big deal in gray.
New Gloucester this week.
They've had a lot of youth basketball players into practice.
They've had members of the 1975 team come in and talk to them and you mentioned the Huberts, there's three of them.
Noah and Aiden are twins and get this, Nate is their uncle.
You heard that right?
- Yeah, that's true.
That's, I had kind see that again, just gonna see it to believe it.
But when Ian McCarthy told us that that's, that is official.
So those three guys, you'll be hearing about them quite a bit.
And speaking of Coach Ian McCarthy, Greg Lebinski has made his way down to the Patriots bench.
Let's send it to him right now and talk to Coach.
- Coach.
It's been a magical run for this team.
They had so many high expectations last year, didn't quite do it this year.
They're here.
What's it gonna take for you guys to come out on top?
- Just play our game.
Get up and down the floor.
Keep it simple.
It's basketball at the end of the day.
Hopefully we can control the boards.
That's the key.
- You guys had a visit from the 1975 team at a practice this week.
It looked like some, some veterans in the house, you know, what was the message to them and what they learned from the people that did it before - We did, we, we met with them.
There was six or seven of 'em that showed up.
They shared some old stories and their message was try and enjoy it 'cause they, they still remember that time that they had bat coming through.
So we've tried to do that all week.
We're here, we're gonna have some fun and hopefully we'll make them proud - As a sea of red behind you guys.
What's this crowd meant to the program as you've gone through the playoffs - All year long?
They've been phenomenal.
I can't tell you how many people have reached out to our guys.
Just wishing them good luck and we really do have the best fans in the state.
No doubt about it.
Alright, - Good luck coach.
Thank you.
Back to you guys.
- Thanks very much again, Greg.
This place is starting to get very electric here at the Cross Insurance arena and we'll take a look at the road to the goals - Regular - Season stats brought to you by main basketball rankings for the North Hampton Broncos.
16 to two records, 60.8 points per game given up 49 per game.
That's the number one mark in Class A North on the other side.
Ray New Gloucester also coming in with that same 16 and two record in the regular season.
73.1 points per game.
That is number two overall in the state of Maine, regardless of class number one in class A.
So it's offense for new Gloucester.
So defense for Hamden is gonna make for a great clash of styles here on this one.
Rob - In an academy, the top seat in Class A North 19 and two, greater Gloucester 19 and two, the top seat in Class A South.
Let's get introduced to these two teams here in Portland as we sent it to the pa. Mike, - Good afternoon and welcome to the Cross Insurance Arena and the 2024 Main Principles Association.

Today's game is the main principles association event of the NPA strongly advocates, sports - Starters introduced here in Portland going to Gloucester and Ham Academy about set to get going.
You see the Patriots and now the Broncos.
Broncos wearing the purple.
What do you expect to run off the bat right over the gate.
Brenda Terrell.
- Well Zach McMullin who, how, who is who I have my eyes on early on.
You see him in the Tipoff circle ready to jump.
He's one of the three finalists for Mr. Maine basketball.
The other two finalists were not able to win gold balls.
So you have to think if McLoan can win a gold ball today and have a good performance, he will also win Mr. Maine basketball here today.
- Yeah, it could be on the line as well as the gold ball.
The Patriots, you see him breaking the huddle McMullin's ready to jump.
It'll be a battle of twelves with Noah Hebert.
This should be an outstanding game here in Portland Today.
My class a state championship on the line and we are underway and it's the Broncos in Wolfington controlling the tap.
JJ got rejected though great stuff by Aiden Hebert and that pass out of bounds as it touched in the way by it was so it stays with the Patriots.
- You can feel the energy that this gray new Gloucester community is bringing into this game.
Rob, there's a sea of red on the far side and they're loud - And a few generations they played for a gold ball.
Here's a three by Noah Hebert swish - Nothing but net.
Noah Hebert gets us started.
- He's now gonna three in every single postseason game game.
Let's see how the Broncos answer back.
Zach McLoan.
So Wooster can shoot that three quite nicely.
Kor with it now.
McLoan stops back outside Kor muggle all on down to Wolfington on the block.
He'll take on Noah Hebert's and that's what JJ Wolfington does so well.
He's so strong.
Down low, - Great strength, great poise by Wolfington gets it with the left hand - Baseline drive for Pat Note, he was the MVP of the class A South turning number three made.
He heard a floater.
No Wolfington snares the rebounds.
- Great defense on the dribble Drive by Hamden Strong.
Rebound by Wolfington.
- Sorry Worcester handling the basketball now the sophomore outstanding three point shooter, 43.9% from behind the Arc.
Liam Hennigan Carter, Libby draped all over him and Libby forces the turnover.
- Here's where the Patriots are so dangerous.
- Pat Node stalks off the iron no and the rebound last touch by Carter Libby.
So it's Hamden Academy basketball.
- Talked to Coach Bartlet this week.
He said we're gonna need one of our non studs to have a 10 point game and it could be any of the three at Hennigan, Cofer or Worcester See early on.
And if one of those three are able to score some buckets for Hamden, that's gonna be huge.
- A little pressure by the Patriots defensively.
McGloin dribbles right out of it.
Whooping in outside, picked up by Noah Hebert, he'll stop and it's too short.
That'll be Patriots basketball.
Eight Hebert mounting the basketball for the Patriots.
Nate and aid in the back court right now it's Aiden handling the ball.
Nate Hebert, Libby on the baseline back outside Noah Hebert into the corner.
Aiden the bouncer inside and that dropped for Carter.
Libby, - Nice dribble drive the dish.
Carter Libby able to get it to go.
Great new Gloster out to a five two lead early on.
- So we're Worcester guarded by Nate Berts, that defense, aggressive McLain.
We have our first follow of the game and I'll go against the Patriots - Then the replay here.
McLain gets inside.
Little too rough with the bump first, follow the game.
- Take a team picture of the Patriots.
Whenever McMullin's had the ball so far they're all five right around him.
- He's gonna draw a lot of attention.
- Wolfington off the iron, - Get some window.
Big fella - Aiden Hebert ate.
Nate penetrates the kick up three on the way.
Libby off the iron.
A solid rebound by McLain.
What great position, yeah, - Good box out by McLaughlin coast to coast.
- He wants it all.
Tough shot.
He'll go to the line - If we see a strong take by the senior draws a lot of attention.
Finds himself caught under the basket, nice pump.
Fake gets the hoop there or gets the harm rather to go to the line for two - Blow on the Mr Main basketball finalists.
Thousand points score and he has one more Patriots crowd deafening down at that end.
- What a student section down there and they might have brought the buses down here today.
I don't know if there's a student left who's not here.
- McLoan shot rims out a couple of the rare misses of the line from Lin Patriots.
Three point lead in the basketball.
Libby outside the patnode.
He'll try to drive picked up by Worcester.
Well Patnode cutting in again ditched underneath.
Look out Hebert for three.
You heard it hit the iron and Sawyer Worcester grabs the rebound and was foul trying to break away.
- Sawyer Worcester's smallest man on the court hustles down that rebound is fouled in the process.
Worcester - Was huge and the quarter final win of Musk scout Egan had 10 points in a couple of threes in a three pointer in every single game and always seemed to be at the clutch time for it as well.
- Little full court man to man pressure applied here by the Patriots - Token inbound.
The basketball wor one-on-one with Nate Hebert round the Hennigan screen as Liam Hennigan with it here.
Mcgaughlin wants the three won't fall.
Carter Libby Yanks down another rebounds and McGloin had to be quick.
He almost picked that off.
But you see how fast the Patriots try to break it down the court.
How quick those outlet passes are - They love those long outlet passes.
They'll throw them the length of the court and they'll throw them over and over again.
- Eight Hebert Bennigan's watching closely bounce past Libby down low.
They're using all of the front court for that three quarter.
Nate Hebert giddy up - Nothing but the bottom of the net.
Nate Hebert, get up and knock it down.
- Eight two lead now for crane new Gloucester Den Academy with a basketball Wolfington looking to muscle his way in underneath.
That's exactly what he does and he just won't go.
He got his own rebounds.
McLoan guarded closely by Noah Hebrews and a hard foul.
Oh by Aiden.
Hebert's gonna make Zach McLoan earn it from the line.
- Yeah they're gonna make him earn it.
That's the operating word there Rob as McLoan takes it on a drive, finds a whole crowd of Patriots.
Good hard foul by Hebert.
McLoan will shoot two more, - One - At 40 points in the quarter.
Final win over SC Hagan.
15 more against Camden Hills in the semi and came alive for 24 in the final against Maslansky and he swes his first shot.
You watch Kobe Mitchell number 11 for greater Gloucester just entered your picture.
He'll replace Aiden Hebert, - Here's where I need to be disciplined off a miss here.
The Patriots will run and run in a hurry the other way.
You'll see two hand in players back deep here in the back court to try to prevent that.
- The lawn cuts the gap for four and that's a 32nd time out calls.
See seven of high school quiz show Maine returns on March 21st.
Tune in to watch schools from around the state.
Matt wits and competes for the $1,000 prize.
His season schools from Orno to Northborough will battle it out for the championship.

- See the Patriots haven't got their fast break offense fully operational yet, but they've made a couple shots early on.
Hamdon's missed a couple shots now McGlaughlin just made a couple foul shots.
Maybe he'll get going.
This is gonna be a good one.
- Biggest crowd that Hamden Academy has likely played in front of all season.
The the Augusta Civic Center was pretty busy for that Maslansky game in the finals but grain New Gloucester, they've been talking about how they played in front of huge crowds all season.
Just don't get daunted by that.
Maybe that's why they have a slightly hotter start.
Eight four.
- There's nobody left in grain.
New Gloucester right now.
It's a ghost town.
They're all down here in Portland.
- Noah Hebert and Johnny Patau playing pass Coleman Mitchell's number 11 just in the game.
Hebert spins the fade away off the iron wolfington.
He's been immense on the glass all postseason and he was again, - Liam Henigan fell to the floor there in rebounding action.
He's gonna look okay, but that pass went right off his back.
- He wasn't expecting the pass player control.
Fo drawn by Sawyer Worcester.
- Really savvy play by Worcester the sophomore Hustle back and transitioning.
No ham's work on transition.
Defense all week gets a position.
Offensive player initiates that contact Colby Mitchell.
Player control.
- Yeah Mitchell never saw that coming.
That's the fifth foul on the Patriots.
So that's three 17.
Any defensive foul hammered academy shooting the rest of this first quarter.
We're gonna cut into this four point gap.
Wolfington back iron and the rebound to Noah Hebert.
Noah outside, kicked off by Wolfington.
Asked Deflected right into Nate Hebert arms and Wolfington called for the foul - And not a bad foul there.
Hamden Academy's first foul.
Doesn't let gray score in the kind of chaotic situation right there back and forth.
Action.
Foul them, settle things down.
Set our defense.
- Carter Libby back in the game now.
Big lineup now for the Patriots with Mitchell Heinrich in the game.
2 33 and 35 Pat note.
Battle of threes with Kor Pat note outside Heinrich Libby trying to drive thought better of it.
Pat nde really trying to work on Kor who was stuck right to him.
Good - Matchup there of threes.
- Nate Huberts into the corner.
Patriots being patience stolen away.
That's McAllen.
Lay it in for two off the glass.
- Michael all in quick hands.
Good execution in the open court.
Get some back within two.
- Pat note the Heinrich outside three on the way.
Nate Hebert that was partially blocked by Liam Hennigan or was it looked like he hit it.
- Yeah they're gonna say no just an airball.
Interesting.
- Oh certainly Hennigan there.
Altered the shot.
Thought he got a finger on that Hebert attempt but it's him Academy basketball - Hamden.
Good job slowing the Patriots down a little bit, making them execute in the half court, keeping them to eight points here so far in the first quarter.
- They can tie or take the lead hand in academy with this possession under two to go in the FirstGen outside Mcgaughlin recovered.
He's being guarded closely by Hebert.
We've had battle of threes and Battle of Twelves.
Here's the Battle of threes.
Traveling violation called that round.
Went to Johnny Patnode for Greater Lost - There Cofer and Patnode locked up here.
Nice triple drive but he just kind of loses his balance there.
He thought Pat Node was gonna be on his back.
There was no pressure.
He slipped and a travel - Pat node Nate Hebert NBA three rattled out Wolfington skies for the rebound Worcester with 1 25 to go.
McLain's been held in check for the most part at his shot block.
Got his own rebound and a held ball call and that means it's Patriots basketball.
- Take a look at the replay here.
McMullin drives and hand right on the ball right there.
That's a good call by the official Adam Thi jump ball back to the Patriots.
- Add no taking his time heading up the floor.
- He - Heinrich you.
Leave him alone outside.
Not the shot the big man wants Passover.
Cook for Carter.
Libby, Liam Henigan.
The shot by Coor for SW - Transition.
Three for Kor for Camden's back in the league.
- Broncos by one off the three pat node inside took on Wolfington.
That's a mismatch with the size of Johnny Wolfington.
- He saw the help Push Pat node into a really tough angle there couldn't get the runner.
- Liam Hennigan outside.
35 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Broken Dover staring right at Johnny Pat note - They can get last shot of this quarter.
They'll take it, protect their one point lead.
Keep gray new Gloucester to eight for a quarter.
That's quite an achievement.
We - Don't see that happen very often.
Mcgaughlin 15 seconds to work Noah Hebert out guarding, keeping a close eye on the Mr Main basketball finalist.
Nine seconds to Work Mcgaughlin with four seconds Fires at the buzzer.
It's no good.
Now rebound to Heinrich and that will be it on the first quarter.
A one point lead for Hamden AC Academy as we head to the second on Maine.

Wolfington Started up top passed.
Came down through, picked up a screen.
A little flex Cut got two.
- Noah Hebert's the baseball pass to Aiden.
Aiden inside some contact they both go to the floor and Wolfington drawn the foul.
Yeah, - That's a good call again by the official.
Along the baseline.
Aiden Hebert initiated that contact you see on the replay.
Wolfington gets set up.
Hebert initiates it into the frame of the defender.
That's a charge call - A pressure now for the Patriots and an academy's got the momentum and a three point lead.
What's been handling the basketball for the Broncos?
Just a sophomore.
The top assist men in the KVAC will Kelly and Nan.
Number 15.
He's got the basketball here.
Both teams have dipped into their bench here in the second quarter.
A lot of depth in both squads you'd expect in a state finals game and that won't fall for Koch.
Doer McLain.
No Schafer batted.
It went right back to McLaughlin again.
- How about McLoan out jumping Hebert for those rebounds.
- Now workman like battle on the boards won by McLoan.
Wolfington lost it.
Libby snared it off the floor.
Here come the Patriots - Uncharacteristic turnover there by the Broncos.
- Nate Hebert hopped the iron Shafer couldn't gather it in and ends up with Will Kelly, the Bronco senior.
- Seen the Patriots miss a lot of shots right from that same exact spot on the floor.
Him doing a nice job pushing them deeper into that angle.
- Toor fur caught the iron.
Hebert looked down floor immediately but the Broncos already got back that note.
Johnny Pat note driving, trying to find Shafer underneath that was last touched by Sawyer.
Worcester.
So it stands stay in the grain of the lobster.
- That good idea?
As I said, Hamden ISS doing a really nice job pushing that dribble drive deeper under the basket than they like.
So tried that time to leave it to Schafer.
Couldn't quite get the pass all the way there but right idea.
- Liam Hennigan back in for Hamden Academy.
That node inside blocks woven in one up and got the fingertips on it.
- Wolfington skied for that block.
- Wooed around the ing in screen.
- Nice bouncer - Woven in in the paint swish.
- Great bounce pass by Worcester to set that up.
Free traffic ton finishes - Arnold Olivia wanted a player control file call there and didn't get it.
Five point lead for hammered Academy.
They have slowed down this Patriot's offense so far.
- Really a textbook job of limiting transition - That won't fall.
Great body position on the rebound.
That time for Mcgaughlin to take it from Shafer.
Mcgaughlin slicing in that won't fall a wild shot.
Hebert with it here.
- See again the Hamden defense beating gray Alster back down the court on defense.
- Need Hebert for three?
I would climb the pump a little bit.
- Oh that was pretty Nate Hebert.
Hello - Big shot by Nate Hebert and it's a two point game Worcester with Pat.
Note on him.
Hennigan, it's woven in battling Shafer.
Opening shot rattles out.
Oh strong rebound there by Noah Hebert but he lost it.
Mcgaughlin great defense down low by Libby.
We'll have a foul call here.
- McMullin very active on the boards.
See with his athleticism he missed that one.
Tracks down the offensive rebound his own miss and gets fouled in that action - Coca nor for back in for Hamden Academy Colby Mitchell into the game for grain of Gloucester.
- Entered - Academy basketball at Worcester waiting inbound.
Russ Parler wants a 32nd time out before that.

- You heard Coach Bartlett in his pre-game interview talk about we need to limit off our own offensive rebounds.
Like we're not gonna try too hard for offensive rebounds 'cause we gotta get back and transition.
And Hampton is a good offensive rebounding team.
They rebounded 41% of their misses in the regional tournament but today they're doing a a amazing job of of being disciplined and only having won maybe two players even try for an offensive rebound.
Everybody else get back.
It's a big part of why they've been able to limit the transition game so far.
And hold gray New Gloucester to just 11 here.
That's - Frustrated the Patriots a little bit because usually those breakout passes are open but they haven't been today.
McLoan lost it.
Here comes Carter Libby, the laying for two.
- That's what this crowd wants to see.
We're all tied up.
- Locked at 13, approaching the halfway mark of the second quarter.
Mcgaughlin guarded by Noah.
Hebert splits the defense.
The finger roll off the glass doesn't fall.
Nate Hebert back quickly for grain of Gloucester coast to coast.
Nate Hebert off the glass, - Look out the Patriots announcing a charge.
They're back on the league.
- Worcester Mitchell tried to steal it.
Wolfington with a head fake underneath and it rolls in to tie the game at 15.
- I love this game right now.
Raw.
Both teams just doing what they do best.
The Patriots are explosive and Hamden executes.
- This is fun.
That was fun too.
Nate Hebert's pretty shot from the baseline - All of a sudden he's got seven in the second quarter, 10 for the game.
- Kobe Mitchell made the steal at, bounced off Sawyer Worcester's foot Ray the Gloucester basketball.
- I hope these officials have tied their shoes tight.
They gotta get up and down this court too here tonight - You draw an assignment with these two teams you know you better be in shape - And get your treadmill work in beforehand.
- 3 35 remaining now in the first half.
Woden picks up Pat notice Wolfden exploits the speed and hits it off the glass.
Talk - About a tough two pat nod with the right hand finishes off the window.
Hello - Koor tried to pick him up and it didn't matter.
Brandon Gloucester by four.
Liam Henigan as was telegraphed.
It was last touched by the number 12 in white Noah Hebert.
So Mond Academy keeps the basketball Worcester the sophomore Al stops and pops just not falling for him like he's used to.
He can get hot in a hurry.
Just - A little bit off right now.
Great new Gloucester's feeling it.
Look out.
Hebert's - Been feeling it almost wolfing in the rebounds.
Good shot from him to take as he has started to find his stroke.
Sawer Worcester out to Wolfington.
Switching to the right hand, he got by Heinrich and scored off the glass.
- Really nice drive by Wolfington under control finishes with the right hand.
He's got eight in the second quarter, 10 for the game.
- Eight.
He spins traveled.
He didn't get rid of it quickly enough.
He had a man in the corner but held the ball too long.
There'll be a timeout call now by Greater Gloucester.
They want a full timeout.
- Second timeout - Maine Public would like to remember Chris Thornton was a lifelong high school basketball fan.
Chris supported today's coverage making a bequest to Maine public.
His gift helps produce this statewide tradition for all to enjoy more information on how you can support our coverage.
Call Scar.
Our children at two oh seven three three oh four five one oh.
Patriots fans have a two point lead.
There's been some tension in this building as we head to the third and fourth quarter.
No doubt about that.
- Yeah, credit to coach Ian McCarthy for keeping his players loose.
You know he is talked about, they don't take themselves too seriously.
Big part of their success this year has been playing loose and free and kind of the approach you have to take when you're playing in front of crowds that are this big.
Otherwise your teenagers will get tight.
- It's been almost 50 years since the Patriots played for a gold ball.
There's been a gap for hammered as well by their 21st century standards.
It's been four years for them of course since 2005.
The longest gap they've had for playing for a gold ball's been six years.
- It's amazing what that program has done up in Hamden.
I'll - Start with our first gold ball in 2005.
McLain from the elbow.
Yes, - That's a pure jumper from the elbow if I've ever seen one - We're tied.
Once again, - Welcome - Noah Berts.
Nate's got a little space dribbled off his foot though he picked up JJ Wolfington down low and that altered his decision making.
- You see Nate Dribble Drive left hand just dribbled it right off his foot right there.
Tried to buy the call to his credit but couldn't - Under two to go in the first half.
Entered Academy with a ball looking to break the tie possession arrow favors grain new Gloucester as we head down the stretch in the first half.
- Good student section battle right now - It is loud in here as Wolfington was forced underneath.
Tremendous defending by Noah Hebert.
Pat note drives again kissed off the glass for two in a lead.
- See early on in the game, Graham Ster was driving too far on that.
That time Pat notes stops, comes back, gets it off the window for two.
- So Worcester to Liam Henigan.
Henigan keeps it in bounds and keeps possession.
Wolfington all the way across the court.
Worcester's barely been open for three and that's probably why Brandon Gloucester knows they can't give him that shot very often and he puts the Broncos on top by one.
That won't fall for Carter Libby under a minute to go in the first half him an academy of one point lead.
- See?
- See if they hold for last shot like they did in the first quarter.
Looks like no - Koor for wants a deuce and won't find it there.
Good shot to take though.
He had the opportunity.
That was a good look.
- He got it all the way inside.
Just couldn't get it.
- 40 seconds to go in the first half.
Pat Noded with it.
He's got space now.
Drew a crowd and drew a foul.
Pat Node has a chance to tie or even give his patriots the lead from the line as we'll.
See that again?
- Pat Node found the gap, took it strong to the hold.
That foul is gonna be on McLoan his first - Node.
- That node ties the game.
- He was outsold us in the first Rob.
Now he's got five.
- A Junior take aim.
It stays tied all volleyball around until K Gofer pulled it down.
Worcester with 30 seconds to go for the Broncos in this tie game.
Almost lost the handle.
McLoan baseline the finger roll for two - Tough pace.
Line drive for McLain gets it with the right hand.
- 10 seconds to work for the Patriots.
Try to tire take the lead.
Nate Hebert seven seconds.
Now Hebert's around the Shafer screen.
NCAA three is short and that'll do it or will its well it's wide.
I might have counted if Mcgaughlin would've put that on target, but he had to make the baseball Eve all the way down the floor and it's a two point lead for the Broncos here at halftime on main public television - Production of high school basketball on Maine.

- Two point lead for Hamden Academy here at the half.
This is shaping up to be exactly the kind of game I think Brandon, we were expecting when we were handicapping this earlier in the week.
- Yeah, don't go anywhere, it's gonna be a fantastic second half.
It's really lived up to the billing of being a clash of styles.
Gray New Gloucester has been able to get up and down a little bit, especially in that second quarter and make some three point shots.
Hamden has grinded it out.
They're gonna need somebody other than McMullin and Wolfington to score a little bit here in the second half.
- Let's go down to the floor.
Greg Lavinsky is standing by.
- Hey guys, I'm here with Adam Zukowski, who's the cross country coach at Greater Gloucester and a teacher as well.
And you know quite a few of the guys on this team from cross country, Carter, Libby and some of the other guys.
What are they bringing Cross country and then what have you seen from them here?
Oh, - Just, just very coachable, you know, great kids, you know, they're always working hard.
You see Carter and Colby Mitchell out there just working hard and like I said, very coachable.
Taking charges, doing all the the little things to help their help their team.
Not surprising at all.
- I noticed Carter Sprints, every time he takes a charge, like that's his thing, he just sprints down the court as fast as he can.
How is he cross country?
- Oh he's great.
He won.
He was a state champ last year.
This year he was second.
You know Kobe Mitchell too.
Great, great, great runner.
And doing grand basketball court as well.
- What's the vibe in the school been like with this team?
I mean they've had an incredible run, haven't been this far in a long time.
What's the day-to-Day like with these guys and the students and how do they all interact?
- Oh it's great.
There's just a nice buzz around the school, you know, a great vibe.
You know, everybody's rooting for 'em.
We all have their back.
Looking forward to a great second half.
- Absolutely guys, back to you.
- Thanks Craig.
And I guess it's no surprise that these guys across country runners, you kinda have to to keep yourself in shape to run the pace that grain of Gloucester likes to run the run at during their regular season.
And the playoffs of course one of the more uptempo teams that we've seen in the state of Maine this year.
- And they average 73 points a game again second in the entire state of Maine, regardless of class how to just eight in that first quarter.
But you saw their explosiveness in the second quarter putting up 14 points, has met 22 here at halftime.
- We said Hammered Academy mentioned someone else outside of the, well outside of maybe potentially the McLain has to step up and and kind of provide some points and it's a low scoring game but they've gotten that today.
A big three point bucket from Sawyer, Worcester, JJ Wolfington as well, playing very physical down low as we take a look at the halftime stats - Can't be much closer Rob, that it's a two point game.
Both teams with eight turnovers, both teams shooting 37 to 39%, 50% from the foul line.
I mean that tells the whole story right there doesn't it?
It's a close game.
Yeah, - Exactly.
Sometimes the numbers lie and sometimes they're spot on and this time numbers are telling the story.
What are the coaches saying in the locker room right now?
Well, nothing 'cause they're out on the floor.
What did they say in the locker room beforehand?
Let's start with Grain New Gloucester.
- Yeah, grain new Gloucester.
You know, I, I think that second quarter showed what we can do.
You know, I think that first quarter they, they kind of drove over and over again to the same spot.
They did a better job in the second quarter of you know, staying out of that tough angle shot and finding other looks offensively for Hamden.
I think they're also really happy with that first quarter, you know, holding gray new Gloucester to just 22 points the way they've been able to execute on offense.
So I think both co coaches can find real positives out of that first half.
- Any adjustments you see being made for the second half?
- I think both teams just need to continue to do what they do.
You know, new Gray, new Gloucester talks about playing loose, playing fun.
This is no time to tighten up in the second half of a state championship game.
Hampton needs to continue to get back on defense, not try too hard for offensive rebounds and limit their turnovers.
- Basically just do what you did, do what you did that got you here in the first place and continue to dance with the girl that Brock's the old expression goes.
Yeah, - Exactly.
There's no time to change now there's 16 minutes left in your season and the gold ball on the line - We mentioned tensions is gonna start ramping up as this game continues to progress and you can feel it here at halftime at a two point game.
There's no doubt about that.
I would expect it's gonna stay razor thin for the next 16 minutes as - A real palpable energy in this building.
You can feel it.
The electricity back and forth, big student sections, big fan sections.
They're ready for a great second half and so am I.
- Got me a very fun second half here in Portland.
Both teams on the floor now and we'll bring you second half action from the cross insurance arena.

I think that was like my life goal at one point - And my dreams have finally come true.
So it's a bit of an emotional moment.
- I think we're all super thrilled to see Todd.
We are big fans.
- Looking forward to that season.
Premier of quiz show coming up in just a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to the second half right here in Portland as the grain de Gloucester patriots.
You see them taking the floor and we'll start with a basketball here in this second half.
And this time the Patriots attacking from left to right and the home whites, the road purple's warm by the Broncos.
Both these teams top seeds in their respective divisions north and south and they have certainly been worthy foes here for the first 16 minutes.
Let's see what the next 16 has to say.
But where the gold ball is is going, it's a grain new glossary for the first time since 1975.
Or you make room for another trophy and the fifth one since 2005 for the Broncos.
We'll find out in the next 16 minutes of basketball and I cannot wait.
Buckle up counting down the last 12 seconds and look at the Hammered Academy cheerleaders who put on a show at halftime and a huge greater Gloucester cheering section here.
The student sections, both of them really have come in full force.
So we take a look at the purple clad Broncos fans.
- This is the good stuff right here, Rob, 16 minutes left.
Gold ball on the line.
Huge community support.
Two great teams on the floor.
Let's go.
- Noah Hebert's got the basketball on.
We've got the clock rolling here in Portland.
Aiden Hebert, Noah Hebert playing bass.
That's Aiden well into defending top shot and it wouldn't quite fall.
McLoan grabs the rebounds - That just an impossible angle.
Aiden Hebert found himself in under the basket.
- JJ Wolfington the jumper caught the back iron and another rebound for Carter.
Libby Grain de Glosser Sr. - Wolfson found another good shot, just couldn't hit it back.
Rim - Noah Hebert need Hebert force back outside.
He doesn't mind being out there though.
A fade away swish.
- Oh that's pretty fade away from the foul line is pure - 24 a piece.
Seems to be like watching a tug of war between two evenly matched sides and the rope barely moves.
Someone will have to give it the end and again out of his range a bit.
That was for NBA distance and it was short.
- Yeah, he was deep.
He got into that.
I assume that coaches want him to keep shooting if he's that open.
Gonna put pressure.
- Ooh, - He called for the travel.
Looked like he just got crossed up in his mind as far as what he wanted to do with the basketball.
Keep or pass it and tried to do both at the same time and usually that results with the other team being handed possession.
Worcester turning on the jets and slowed down.
Buckle all in was a little offline and rattled out - A couple good looks for Hamden early in the second half.
No makes - Dean Hebert closed down.
Here comes Libby and it was stripped blocking foul calls.
That's the first foul of the second half.
It goes against Den Academy.
- See Libby is the trailer.
They find him with the full head of steam and Wolfington just sticks his leg out a little bit there.
Picks up the blocking foul.
His second.
- A little hip check by JJ Wolfen.
He played for the main Mariners here.
He's singing his praises in that play.
Libby, - No flare screen.
- Need Huberts using the entire front court just to get himself open.
He couldn't do so.
Pat knows that's short.
You hear Wolfington call that as he got pretty close to our rim mic.
- Yeah, he was close to touching the net as the ball was in the cylinder too.
That was you gotta be careful with that.
- Aiden Cofer working in on Pat.
Note.
Worcester loves that three, not that time into the corner.
Another three on the way.
That one's true.
Noah Hebert's.
- Yeah.
Pick your poison of the twins.
It had to stop ball and that left Noah open the corner.
Splash - Wooster Wolfington his way inside.
Left-handed Finger roll.
No.
Got his own rebounds.
That was just pure strength.
He bullied three patriots to score and make it a one point game.
- He says, get outta my way.
Gets that rebound.
Finishes with the left hand.
Nice touch - Johnny Pat note three on the way.
Nate Hebert offline.
Wolfington another rebound for the big senior.
A junior, excuse me, - Liam Hennigan's hand all over that shot.
A really tough one.
- Mcgaughlin.
- Oh, - Pure jumper.
- Wow.
What an answer Hand in his face.
Didn't matter.
Elbow jumper, splash - Walking foul.
Called against Liam Hennigan knew Nate Hebert had a step - And Nate Hebert goes baseline and have contact there.
Pick up the and foul.
- Randy Glosser at a three point lead handed Academy scored the last four points to jump up by one.
Pat note, Noah Hebert we're gonna take advantage of Worcester three on the way.
Thought he wasn't gonna take it, but Nate Hebert buries it and his Patriots on top by two.
- Nate Hebert was falling outta bounds in the corner and he puts that up.
Nothing but the bottom of the net.
- Sawyer Worcester wants to answer.
It's off the rim.
Patriots looking to run gun once again.
Aiden Huberts into the corner Pat node for three.
No good.
There's the rebound of the Putback by Aiden.
Huberts - Tell you, Aiden Hebert fired a pass along the baseline to the complete opposite side of the court to his twin brother, which led to an open three in eventually that Putback.
What a play?
- Three mini runs here as we open up the second half.
We're in a Gloucester on a bit of one right now.
Liam Henigan wants to stop it.
Worcester not given any space.
Mcgaughlin guarded by Noah.
Hebert shoots over him.
Shorts now rebound hat.
Node ahead quickly look out Laid in by Noah Hebert for two.
Russ Bartlett needs a timeout.
- You see the explosiveness of the Patriots, you can hold them down for a quarter or so, but you can't hold 'em down the entire game.
Their speed getting up and down off a couple Hamden misses.
Look at that outlet pass on the money.
Noah Hebert get it up and in for two - 18 points against f Fryberg in the quarters.
Nine against Freeport in the semis and nine with 10 rebounds against Noble in the finals.
Big bucket by Hebert as the Patriots up six - They hand in a little cold coming out of the locker room.
They had some good looks early in this third quarter that they couldn't knock down and they still need somebody other other than McMullin and Wolfington to do some scoring here in the second half.
- Six point deficit.
Possessions start to matter even more now as we head down the stretch more than halfway through this third quarter.
- So Hamden shot a nice percentage in that first half.
They're able to get back quicker on transition defense off of those misses.
Gray NewCo gets down the court in the blink of an eye.
- Worcester has to get rid of it.
He's trapped.
Almost threw it over here.
Great.
Save behind the arc Henigan number three.
Couldn't answer with that one again.
The Patriots with speed.
Nate Hebert admit the shop but it'll go to the line.
- Say Wolfington was packed a boat by himself there trying to stop the charge as Nate Hebert fo had a steam little spin move goes to the line for two.
- That's the third foul on him in the academy here in the third quarter.
Ranger Gloster, not whistled for a foul yet.
Hebert's at the line.
He hits the first - 16 points now for Nate.
Hebert game high.
- A shot to put grain Gloster up by eights and it doesn't fall.
Wolfington the ball knocked out of his hands.
It was last touched by Hebert.
So it's handed Academy basketball.
- Big possession here for Hamden.
They could really use a bucket down by seven.
Gray New Gloucester kind of feeling it here in the third quarter.
Need to stem the tide.
- Gimme a kickball called on Noah Hebert.
It'll stay with the Broncos.
This is the time you'd expect McGloin to hit a big shot to kind of swing the momentum back a little bit toward Ham Academy.
It's what he's done for his entire career with the Broncos and - They could really use him to step up, knock down a couple.
- He's got it now.
Doubles.
He gonna work his way out of it in a foul.
Calling us Carter Libby, who's not thrilled that the whistle was blown.
- Yeah, good.
Paul, veteran official, rusty Hopkins.
Carter Libby had a hold a Wilkin's arm, which helped him come across in front and knock that away.
- I heard the Patriots fans what they thought.
They're in full voice here at the cross arena.
Liam Henigan.
They don't want Worcester taking that shot.
That's why Libby's out there with him.
Ming in strips.
Hayden, Hebert, Castile.
It's a two on one.
He is got Pat node.
Pat node lays it in.
- Just a great job to be patient to find the trailer.
Pat note up and in for two.
The danger opening this one up.
It's already nine.
It's - The largest lead of the game for grain of Gloucester Al in to Wolfington Hannigan.
They need this three and it just rimmed out.
Can't get much closer than Hannigan did.
Patriots a chance to exploit it.
Pat Node baseline just knocked out of bounds but it stays in grain.
New Gloucester - Now defensively Grain new Gloucester out of the locker room here in the third quarter.
Running more doubles at the ball and you see Pat Node baseline drive there, knocked out of bounds off Wolfington.
- Libby's shot rolls around, goes along with the rebounds.
Another big possession for the boys in purple.
And Nate Hebert wouldn't give that shot so Worcester will take it instead.
And it works out perfectly.
- It's a big one.
Six points for wsa.
- That's what the doctor ordered for Hamden Academy.
It's a six point game now.
Pat Node baseline, high arcing shot that was altered by Koch Doper who couldn't have played that any better.
Got - Really great on ball defense by Cofer.
Got a hand in the face, one and done.
- And again, Cofer has made the defensive play and he'll do it the other end.
- Alright, I needed somebody other than their big two to step up.
- Here's an answer, Nate Hebert, spot on.
- I couldn't even get my comment out before.
They're scoring on the other end route - S about, have to make that call.
This is what we expect from these two teams as they're putting up the points now.
But Greater Gloucester leads by seven Colby Mitchell Reenters the game for the Patriots off.
Ian McCarthy's bench timeout.

Hello.
- I say they're watching some.
A great display of basketball here in shooting in the third quarter.
First Sawyer Worcester, the down on the other end.
Nate Hebert - Den.
That veteran coaching staff needs to draw up a good set play here.
They could really use a bucket to close this back down to four or five.
- 1 27 remaining.
You see the time in score here in Portland Class.
A gold ball up for grabs.
Brunswick Dragons have taken home the girl ball on the girl side.
Will it stay in southern Maine or is it heading back to central Maine?
McLoan.
Nate.
Hebert right there.
McLoan.
He's four Patriots, but couldn't score.
- Oh, he got to the spot he wanted and couldn't make it - Just didn't fall.
Carter, Libby, and I'll follow a call.
Don't be on Wolfington.
- Looks like it's on the floor here in transition.
Wolfington reaches in right there.
It's on the floor.
- And that's three now in JJ Wolfington.
- Hey, he is gotta be careful.
He doesn't get four before the end of this third quarter.
He - Has something to watch.
Aiden Huberts.
Nate wanted that shot and Hennigan wouldn't give it to him.
Noah Hebert outside.
Oh, McAllen almost suckered him in.
Aiden Hebert to Libby.
He wants the three, the big man connects - Three ball corner, pocket splash.
- Now the Freeport Falcons found out he could hit the three.
So did the Noble Knights and they Ham Academy, Broncos Learning Cardinal Libby's got the outside shot going as well.
- Patriots can feel it.
They're up by 10, eight and a half minutes left in this game.
- 30 seconds to go in the quarter.
Henigan Kor for Worcester back with it.
Kor for a long two or is that a three?
It won't fall.
Henigan underneath.
Blocked but not legally.
We'll see who gets the foul.
Is it Libby or is it Mitchell?
- The big rebound by Henigan here.
Co Andora had a good look at it.
Henigan collects himself, goes up strong.
Turns a trip to the stripe.
- Colby Mitchell called for the foul and an academy crowd hoping that Liam Hennigan the sophomore can hit both these shots at the line.
He's got the first - First points for Liam Hennigan gets himself into the Scorebook.
- Annie Hennigan will Kelly into the game for Hammered Academy and Johnny Patnode came back in for the Patriots one out of two and the rebound knocked out of bounds by the Broncos.
- Hamden needs to dig in and get a stop here for the end of the quarter.
Hold it to a nine point lead - Internet academy.
Has the arrow greater Gloster with the basketball and the clock rolling at 12 seconds.
How can they conjure up for a last shot?
A three by pat node?
No, a rebound underneath Stolen will be a chance for a last shot.
Worcester heaves it and it was a little late and offline anyway and we head to the fourth quarter with Greater Gloucester holding a nine point lead.

We'll find out in eight minutes for the Den Academy.
Broncos have a comeback in them here in the fourth quarter.
It will be the grain of Gloster Patriots taking home the gold ball for the first time since 1975.
Early - Grain Gloucester's just been gaining steam as this game goes along.
Rob eight in the first 14 in the second 21 in the third.
- Some a frustrating night from McLoan because he's had a lot of shots just like that.
They've been very close and haven't dropped.
- Yeah, a lot of makeable shots not falling.
- Andy Henigan stayed in the game.
Andy can't score his first two points though as he was triple team down.
Won - Another makeable shot him just can't knock him down here in the second half.
They - Have to start doing so as they have seven and a half minutes left to go.
Pat Node doesn't fall.
Will Kelly had the rebound pat node's on the floor and this'll be Bronco's.
Basketball, Wolfington and Coor for back in for Hamden Academy - And they got a quick break through the quarter.
The quarter break a few seconds here into the fourth.
Now here they come.
Oln - Achieved his goal too of not picking up that fourth foul before the buzzer.
He is still on three Broncos I think need him in this game to win.
- There comes the trap - Al and Worcester breaking the trap.
Aiden Coor Wolfington.
Oh great head.
Fake - Great patience by Wolfington Hump Fake.
Let him go by back within seven.
He - Should have said Olay while he was doing it.
Here's a three on the way.
No in the rebounds that'll be wolfington.
That's four.
- I'm surprised there was no offensive foul after that pass.
Player went crashing into two Hamden players under the basket.
No call.
- There's a storyline in the game now.
JJ Wolfington with four fouls.
- Nick, keep your eye on that.
Nobody going to the score is able to check in so he is gonna stay.
Coach Bartlett trusting the senior.
- The other number 33 is Carter Libby.
He stands at the line and he is got one more after connecting on the first and make it a nine point game.
If the senior can hit this and a cheering section in red got a good view of that shot.
- Every possession is critical now for Hamden.
They need points.
They're - Down nine Worcester and bring them back in a hurry.
So can this man Mcgaughlin Coor fur won't fall.
Andy Hennigan will try again.
Mcgaughlin steps up for the two same results.
Iron no wolfington for three also doesn't fall.
And Noah Hebert ends up with a basketball.
- Three good looks in one trip, couldn't make any of them.
- Pat Node wolfen and tried to draw the charge.
There was no call either way.
And the boys in purple get the basketball back.
- See little outta control and the fast break here.
But a nice job sliding to the side and not getting into the frame of the defender to avoid the charge call.
Good job there with a no call.
- Good work by whooping in two is he knew the contact was coming to stand there like a statue.
Make sure whatever happened it would un be unlikely they'd call him for his fifth McLoan in traffic.
Oh ing it ends up with us now.
McLoan the floater and it just won't drop.
Aiden Hebert.
Paul had a steam rejected by McLoan but a foul called.
It wasn't the block, the block shot anyway.
It was the body contact picked up the blocking foul.
- Yeah, I think there's a little frustration in this foul from McLoan.
He's had a lot of good looks here in the second half.
Oh yeah, of course it's all ball on on the top there.
But the big foul with the body and he's frustrated with himself.
Missed a lot of makeable shots here in the second half, - Eight in here, but at the line trying to make this a double digit game, you'll get one more Kobe Mitchell back in for a greater Gloucester.
Here comes Liam Hennigan here replace Andy Hennigan.
Aiden Hebert shooting for a 10 point lead has it - Three outta four from the line here in the fourth quarter for the - Patriots.
I saw the reaction from the student section.
Wooster in a battle there with Colby, Mitchell and Mitchell picks up the turnover.
They're starting to feel it over there on the far side.
The fans in red.
- Just great active defense there by Mitchell.
Knock it away from Worcester.
- That node back in Colby Mitchell did his job.
- A huge round of applause from the Patriot fans you see right there.
Just picks his pocket and Worcester knocks it out of bounds trying to gather it back in.
He - Got an emphatic handshake and Pat in the back, me and McCarthy, you just saw why very new Glosser trying to make it spin rather on a 10 point lead.
Three Johnny Pat note.
Three, five and a half to go in regulation time at the cross insurance arena.
Nate Hebert Hannigan played that perfectly.
Liam Hannigan that kicked Paul calling against Noah Hebert.
He nods Zach McLaughlin the senior or did the inbound for the Broncos.
How hard is it not to be a clock watcher if you're handing an academy right now?
- Yeah, you can't put extra stress on these shots and these possessions, no matter how important they are, you just gotta keep playing your game.
- McGloin just shook his head.
- That's been his game all season long.
All career long.
He just can't believe he is not knocking down these shots - Outside.
This could be a dagger but it was partially blocked I think by Kor but got a little bit on that because it was well short from Pat.
Note.
- Hamden is getting the stops they need here in the third in the fourth quarter.
- Worcester clutch a huge bucket by the sophomore and it's a seven point game and Hamden Academy needed that.
That's the second time Worcester has carried them back after being down big - And they could have used that about two minutes ago but they'll take that one for sure.
Now they have a chance to talk about some adjustments defensively they need to bring to bring pressure here and bring it hard.
- Season seven of high school quiz show Maine returns on March 21st.
Tune in to watch schools from around the state match wits and compete for the $1,000 prize this season.
Schools from Orno to North Burwick will battle it out for the championship.
It all starts Thursday, March 21st at 8:00 PM on Maine Public television.
- Well it's back to - 7 4 42 to go a seven point gap that's a little more manageable.
Something just psychologically about seeing a single point deficit rather than a double digit.
- See Hamden talking about it in their timeout.
Looks like they're not gonna bring full court press.
I wonder if they'll try some sort of a half court trap perhaps or just get back with half court man here and try to keep forcing.
Mrs. - Pick it up at half court.
It looks like McLoan see him approach to the top of the NBA three point line.
That's Worcester and McLoan there to defense.
Aiden Berts Pat node deferring to Nate Berts, pat Node Wolf and wouldn't allow that pass.
He was the last to touch it though.
So the Patriots remain in possession.
- Could help defense there by Wolfington.
Stop the dribble drive now the baseline inbound.
- Carter Libby, Nate Hebert drives penetrates won't score.
Wolfington knocked the rebound to Kor for that - Big rebound by the Broncos.
- Huge possession now for Den Academy.
They're down seven.
Can they come closer?
Mcgaughlin drove and the shot falls but it won't matter.
A traveling call.
- Yeah, coach Harlet knew it.
He agreed with the call.
Right behind it he made the shot too.
That's a killer as you see here.
mc McMullin loses control.
Yeah, - Gonna be thinking that's the one that falls that shot.
- Exactly.
- Thanks.
Basketball guards.
That doesn't go the rebound.
A quick outlet to Korra battling Noah Hebert and Korra wins the battle and it's a five point game.
- Don't look now Hammond's back to five.
Gray New Gloucester is yet to make a field goal here in the fourth quarter.
- Objects in the rear view mirror are closer maybe than they appear.
Pat no doesn't go.
It looked like it was last off Worcester and it was.
- Well that is such an important battle for that rebound right there.
Worcester beat him to the ball but Bert just touched it with his hand.
Knocked it off of Worcester.
- Brandon - Gloss will take a fulltime out with 3 31 to go Henry Academy with just one time out left Major Gloucester with two timeouts to go.
- JJ Wolfington has been so big throughout this one as the great new Gloucester guards drive past on Dribble Drive, he's always there to help but he can't challenge that hard anymore 'cause he's playing with four fouls.
- Did you miss a game or wanna watch one again?
Maine Public is rebroadcasting all of the state final games this weekend, last night's Class B games we're seeing this morning.
But today's games begin tonight at 11:00 PM with a replay in the class A girls then championship weekend picks up at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning for a full day of state final excitement starting with a class A boys for the full replay schedule.
Head to Maine public.org/basketball.
Henry Academy Broncos fans still believe and why not?
They we're down double digits and they've cut it in half to five.
- Still plenty of time left in this one.
Three and a half minutes.
They need stops and rebounds.
See Gray New Gloucester known for pushing the tempo and pushing the tempo.
Can they control the ball here and execute over this last three and a half minutes?
Carter - Libby is the man entrusted inbound for the Patriots.
Noah Hebert.
Aiden tried to set the screen still trying to do so.
- This - Is Aiden Hebert with it now into the corner.
Carter Libby takes the three bullet pass, almost worked - However, got caught in the air under the basket.
Fortunate to get it to Carter Libby and he couldn't make it - Unorthodox.
They almost score but now an opportunity for him in academy under three to go PDO Oor in too deep.
He split the defense but ran outta space.
- That good pump.
Fake good drive.
Couldn't get the finish.
- Nate Berts, they got to Libby - Patriot's still looking for their first field goal.
The fourth quarter - They lead is five Noah Huberts cut off by Worcester and Wolfington.
Nate Huberts and a blocking foul called that'll go against Kdo for - That strong dribble drive.
State championship on the line.
Hebert and Cofer collide.
50 50 call goes in favor and eight Hebert.
He'll go to the Stripe shooting too.
- Big shots here with a five point lead.
Looking to extend it.
There's one out of two.
- This is a big one right now.
It's a two possession game.
- Colby Mitchell back in the lead is seven.
Two big shots for Nate Hebert - As cool as the other side of the pillow.
- I love getting those Stuart Scott references in - RIP.
- McLoan in trouble.
Loose on the floor.
Patriots basketball, they've got the arrow.
- So here on the replay, McLoan gets knocked away from behind.
There's a crowd of Patriots around them as there has been whole game and they're able to get the turnover.
Big one.
- This is a massive possession of the storyline of this game.
Two 18 to go a seven point lead for Greater Gloucester Broncos desperately need a stop here.
Patriots will not rush a shot.
Need Berts under two to go.
Hebert slashing his way to the hole.
That's a jump ball and it goes back to hand in academy and we'll switch the arrow once again.
- You can see the fear in the eyes of Wolfington when he heard that whistle.
He is like, uhoh.
Is that my fifth?
And he turns and looks and saw the chump ball.
Lets outta breath.
- You're still alive young man.
I'm still in the game.
The Broncos can't waste possession and that's just what they did.
- They tumble McMullin and Codo for, tried to force it into him anyway, throw it out of bounds - As all says.
Calm down boys, calm down.
Let's get the ball back.
- And the Patriots still haven't scored a field goal here in the fourth quarter as it mattered so far.
They've got five points from the line.
- Pat had wanted to come back in, he didn't report.
Colby Mitchell will stay in the game.
Libby reset outside the Patriots.
Carter.
Libby Telegraph the pass PDO for oh he came in too hot.
- PDO for making great plays here in this fourth quarter but just can't finish again.
- Noah Hebert bleeding some clock into the corner.
Aiden Hebert's taking more time off the clock.
Libby heads to the hole passed it off.
Hebert fakes the three rejected by wolfing him but he took too many steps before that job.
This is a must score possession - Say good job defensively on that possession by hand.
And they had to defend for a long time against good action from the Patriots.
But they need buckets.
- They don't score here now Patriots will have one hand on the gold ball.
No doubts.
One 10 remaining three on the way it's short.
Worcester saved it.
No one there in purple.
- Beat three there.
My McMullin couldn't get it.
Worcester's pull up lame as well.
- That's a foul.
Liam Hennigan had to make - Worcester's grabbing his left leg.
- One more foul to give for the Broncos before they send the Patriots to the line.
Here comes Joni Pat node back into the game.
It's been an afternoon of missed opportunities for Hamden Academy and a full-time outtake here with 1 0 2 to go - Credit to the Glen new Gloucester coaching staff and their team.
They've executed here in the fourth quarter, still haven't made a field goal but they've done enough to possess the ball and to make their foul shots they're in position.
Bring home that gold ball.
- You see so many times how important free throws at the end of the game will be Randy Gloster taking advantage of those opportunities to lead by seven with 62 ticks on the clock left to go and now you see some nervousness on both sides a little bit.
You know those folks ready to celebrate Randy Gloucester.
But this game is gone outta reach for Hampton Academy despite the time and score - To the Hampton Cheerleaders behind us.
Get in the Hampton.
Crowd fired up.
They still believe seven minutes, 62 seconds.
Crazier things have happened.
- Patriots fans standing on the other side.
You can see 'em the top of your screen.
- It's a madhouse over there.
- Noah Hebert in the back courts.
Nate Hebert is under a minute to go.
- Who do they wanna put on the line here - Lee Pat note they'll send the junior the class A south turning MVP to the free throw line and these shots can be coffin nails if he can hit both - That note.
Average almost 18 points per game in the regional tournament has seven here tonight.
- Make it eight - Patriots.
Continue to make their foul shots in the fourth quarter in the clutch.
This is what you practice all the time.
State championship on the line.
I'm at the foul line for two.
- You dip the dagger in poison and probably just stuck it in.
It's a nine point game at 48.7 seconds to go.
It's hard to imagine a way back now for the Broncos, they - Still bringing full court press.
They might as well.
They have zero team fouls right now.
- They have to hit a shot here.
They have to do it right soon.
Henigan will try.
It's been the story of the game.
Let the Broncos keep it.
38.8 seconds left Sawyer inbound the basketball for him and Academy Coor for couldn't take the three.
Doug Lawan saved it.
The clock's rolling.
30 seconds to go, it's stolen.
That probably just did it.
And Pat no was so excited for the exclamation point in the cherry on top that he tried to shoot without the basketball.
- That Patriot student section.
You see him there.
They were ready to to explode with that cherry on top.
They're have to wait for 23 more seconds.
- He came outta the game.
Either McCarthy gave him a handshake and a grand.
They'll laugh about it later.
It won't matter.
All that'll matter is the hardware they're about to take home.
Liam Hennigan short 15 seconds to go and Hennigan commits the foul and all it's gonna do now is impact what the final score's going to be.
You can see 'em.
- That's what 50 year weight will do for you.
- Disco was in its infancy with the last time Gray New Gloucester took a gold ball back since then.
More sparkly mirror balls than gold balls in society for Gray New Gloucester.
But they're gonna have one today.
- I think we were still involved in the Vietnam War the last time Gray New Gloucester brought home a gold ball.
- We start naming TV shows, we can really start sending things back.
- Such an incredible scene on the far side.
So many people here from the Gray and new Gloucester communities to support this team.
So you know Hebert getting some attention down in the corner.
Alright, - Great round of applause for the gran new Gloucester fans as he's taken care of by the trainer.
Now the people who won that 75 state championship have grandkids at Gran New Gloucester High School.
As you mentioned, some of them reached out some of those 70 fivers.
They've been very much involved in the last couple of weeks and this is the generation that's going to see a gold ball.
And Noah Schafer's gonna get into the action and the fans love it.
The senior's about to come back in.
Yeah, - They were chanting.
We want Schafer over there in the student section said Coach McCarthy was listening, we'll send him into the game.
- Had some productive minutes earlier in this contest.
Schaffer, here's Aiden Hebert.
Al will be shaking his head saying, why couldn't I get those roles?
Here's Ian McCarthy.
You wouldn't know by looking at him that he is about to carry a gold ball back to a town that hasn't seen one in 50 years.
49 to be exact.
Well let's round up five decades makes it sound more meaningful.
- Talk about ways to win state championships.
They're eight from nine and nine for 10 here in the fourth quarter from the foul line.
- A veteran team, clutch free throws and a gold ball.
Nate Hebert will dribble it out and launches it in the air.
Celebrate Patriots.
You've earned it.
The first gold ball since 75.
And look what it means to the players, the fans of the community.
- That's a pig pile on the court.
Look at that euphoria.
Great new Gloucester Patriots class A state champions.
Congratulations.
- You grow up dreaming about this moment as a basketball player, a high school athlete.
Sometimes you can't envision it ever happening over the Patriots.
Here it is.
- Just nine points in that fourth quarter for the Patriots.
All from the foul line.
That's all they needed.
What a performance in that second half.
They were down by two at halftime and they come back and win this thing by 11 points.
- They've got the ladders out.
That'll be the next step - Out.
Hamden to just seven points in that fourth quarter.
Mc Lin, just two points in the second half.
Great team defense against him.
- You'll see the players have gone over to the corner.
You'll see 'em now as we zoom out.
That's what got that massive ovation from the red clad Greater Gloucester Patriots fans.
We'll pick up the house Mike and the PA announcer for our gold ball ceremony and the awards to both these worthy teams.
Champions of their region.
But first we'll cut down the nets.
- Nate Hebert first up the ladder, he had a game high 21 points - And there's Noah Schafer.
He was first up at the other end.
Here's the aforementioned Mr. Hebert.
Gotta specify.
That's neat.
- Say nephews.
You can wait.
Your uncle has the first trip up the ladder.
- Johnny Pat Notta Junior class A self attorney.
MVP.
So many weapons on this state Championship team from Greater Gloucester, Carter Davis, a sophomore.
What a thrill this is.
You've experienced this before.
Brendan Charlie been part of this ceremony on both ends.
So you can kinda speak from experience.
Let's talk about the greater Gloucester Patriots.
What's it like to kind of sit there as a coach or stand there as a coach and watch your players climb that ladder.
- Just trying to soak it all in.
Enjoy every second of it.
Take so much hard work and some breaks along the way to get to this point where you cut down nets.
You need to appreciate it for what it is.
It's hard to do.
You never know to get back here again.
You have all the stress, all the anxiety of the game itself has finally kind of crashed.
- When does it sink in?
- I think as you're watching your players cut down these nets and and getting to do this and they're about to take the gold ball over to that student section and celebrate.
You know it.
It's Mark is that we really did this guys, - It only takes about five minutes to cut down the nets, but it'll seem like an hour and a half if you're on the losing end.
And - I've been there too.
I was - Gonna say you, you've experienced in that too.
So what's what's going on in through the minds of the Hamed Academy players over on the bench and Coach Ru, coach Russ Bartlett.
- It's gonna be a tough game film for the, for them to watch.
'cause they, they had it.
They executed their game plan to a T in the first half.
They held this high powered Patriots team to just 22 points in the first half.
We talked about a team that averages 73.
That was exactly what they needed.
See Coach McCarthy get emotional with his daughter there.
That's what it's all about.
But for Hamden, they had their chances.
They executed beautifully in the first half.
They had a lot of open shots in the second half.
They just couldn't make enough of them.
It's gonna be tough to go back and watch this game film - He saw last year how important family is in games like this.
The Brewer Witches winning last year.
That was a huge family events here as well.
A lot of family is gonna celebrate this in grading was, and coach has his daughter over on the sideline and talk about a memory you'll never forget.
- A great shot right there.
- Yeah, coach is fighting back tears and why not?
- I think he's losing that battle understandably.
- There's Carter, Libby, the big man with a great game and a huge clutch three that set the tone for the Patriots.
In the second half.
You see the strand's almost ready.
Libby's waiting.
Let's synchronize it.
Johnny Patnode, Carter, Libby, and what a great camera shot that is with the Chuin grain of Gloucester fans in the background.

Oh, yes sir.
You guys have had an incredible run.
What did it take to become state champions?
Oh my gosh, it took so much.
We're so hardworking and giving up to coach Man first year.
First year brings us 16 to two breaks the record state champions since 1975.
Let's go.
When you're dribbling that ball out at the end, you throw it up in the air.
Like what's going through your mind of that situation?
Oh, just so much ease, man.
All that pressure falls off your shoulders.
I mean, look at this crowd.
I felt every single one of 'em.
I love every single one of these people.
We're a community, we're a family and it feels great to get it done.
Where's the MVP there shitting MVP for Johnny Pat though earlier, I know it's your first year with the team, but obviously you're welcomed right in.
What was it like to be a part of this run?
Oh, it was - Great.
It was amazing.
I mean, the second I came over, they welcomed me in like I've been here for my whole life.
So it was great.
It's a great family here.
- Where's Carter?
Libby, you don't have Carter Libby?
Yeah.
What do you have to say about this run?
I mean, you guys, there was a lot of expectations and you really lived up to them.
- Yeah, I mean, I'm just great to, it's just great to have all these guys here, the community, everything.
I mean, we knew we could do something special and we did it.
So that was just awesome.
- And coach, coach, you're, you're showing the most emotion of anybody.
What's going through your mind right now?
Emotional.
- I told these guys, I've cried in the locker with 'em, locker room with 'em the last few years.
I said, not this year.
So I'm gonna try to hold back my tears.
But these guys are great.
I'm honestly, it's great that we won, but it's sad that some of these seniors, we won't be able to play more.
They're a lot of fun to be with.
- All right, well congrats everybody and guys, we'll send it back to you.
Thank you.
- Thanks very much, Greg.
The victorious Craig de Gloucester Patriots say 52 41 victory.
And that's how to cap off a senior season for the Hebert's Great team and a deserved gold ball for the greater new Gloster community.
- I'm just so impressed with this great new Gloucester team.
You hear them mention words like tight knit and family over and over again.
Coach McCarthy talked about that this week.
How close this team is.
They had sleepovers at Nate Hebert's house time and again throughout the season.
And you can really tell how they pull for each other, how tight they are and and that those kind of bonds lead to championships.
