Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipI am the Duluth Farm to School coordinator and we're so excited to have the 7th graders from Lincoln Park Middle School back for a farm field trip.
The stations range from learning about the importance of compost and amending soil, soil structures, and really looking at and investigating soil.
Pollinators, the important role that they play in growing our foods and also the vegetable of the year is collard so we have stations that our students are planting that and will have that to grow over the summer.
Research shows that when students are involved with planting and growing food and knowing where that comes from, they're more actively engaged in eating that food and incorporating it into their diets.
So much a part of a successful Farm to School initiative is the collaborations within a community.
So it's bringing us all together - - food really ties people together just in general -- so it's a great way for the community to really embrace that, get the information out and working together to have these hands-on learning activities taking place.
