♪ [snappy music] ♪ As one of the first LGBT centers in the southeast, the Harriet Hancock Center has been empowering members of the LGBT community in an area notorious for being indifferent or at times, hostile.
The center's founder, Harriet Hancock, has been an active advocate for LGBT rights and social change for nearly three decades.
In 2011 she received a personal invitation to the White House during Pride Month for her work in making South Carolina a better place for gays, lesbians, and their families.
