[gentle acoustic music] ♪ ♪ Freight train, freight train ♪ - [Narrator] Welcome to the Annual Freight Train Blues Concert Series, celebrating the life and legacy of Piedmont blue's legend Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten.
Born in 1893 in Carrboro, North Carolina, some of Cotten's best known compositions reside in the canon of American music, with noted covers by the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez and Doc Watson.
Today, her legacy is being discovered by a new generation of artists and performers.

So we're here today to honor the legacy of Elizabeth Cotten and the Freight Train Series that town of Carrboro and Music Maker Relief Foundation have given us the opportunity to do and to play and I wish we were all sitting with our shoes off and our Valium dresses or whatever, and out at the farmer's market, but we're here and we're gonna have a good time like we always do.
