Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- As part of our Under the Dome coverage, those measures were just some of a raft of bills lawmakers voted on Thursday, as the clock is running out to get those bills onto Governor Murphy's desk before he leaves office.
Among the other high-profile legislation, lawmakers advanced the Climate Superfund Act.
It's a bill to hold oil companies liable for damages caused by climate change.
They target certain companies that sell fossil fuels in New Jersey, collecting fines from those companies to pay for projects that'll protect communities from further damage.
Environmental groups argue New Jersey residents shouldn't be on the hook to pay for climate damage, but business groups say the bill would increase fuel prices and put jobs at risk.
Another bill would allow the state to charge data centers new tariffs to prevent passing on their electricity costs to ratepayers.
The tariff rates would apply to large load energy users like those data centers.
Other bills included extending the state takeover of Atlantic City for another six years, giving the state broad powers over decision-making in the city.
And yet another would shorten timelines for special elections to fill House vacancies.
That's an issue that's been coming up more frequently in recent years.
The bills now head to the full Senate and Assembly on Monday, where they'll face final votes before heading for the governor's signature.
