You can also get screened for various health issues without stepping into a doctor's office.
Here's a look at how University of Louisville is giving Kentuckians that opportunity.
Universal health has a lot of great, great opportunity.
And, different screenings that you can do for free.
So there's a blood pressure check.
So if you're not seeing your PCP, I definitely would recommend just coming in to have that done.
We have different groups, different medical groups that will be here throughout the fair.
We have our hep C clinic that's doing screenings.
We have hands on CPR, and then we also have breast cancer screenings.
Hepatitis C is a huge public health issue.
And the big deal about it is, is once again, folks don't know they have it.
So when they start having signs and symptoms of advanced liver disease, that's when they're getting screened.
And by then you've got two problems.
You've got cirrhosis of the liver and hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is a virus that lives in your liver.
We're screening for the antibody.
It's actually a two part test to screen for the antibody.
And then if the antibodies are active, then we screen for an actual infection.
But a lot of folks would never be screened for hepatitis C if we weren't offering this here at the fair today.
Hepatitis C is a curable disease, but you need to get screened to see if you have hepatitis C. And no vaccine for hepatitis C, so you can catch it over and over and over.
So we do lots and lots of education.
We also have a really fun thing that we're doing called an in-body scan.
It's a body composition scan.
It uses your electrical current in your body, and it analyzes your body fat, your weight, your skeletal muscle mass, your body fat percentage and BMI.
It also tells you pretty interesting things about your hydration level.
So like your intracellular and your extracellular, water retention people are a little bit leery.
They were like, I don't want to see I know that I'm overweight, but it shows you your muscle mass and different things like that.
So, it will also tell you maybe how much body fat you want to lose, or maybe muscle that you want to gain, to kind of get in a more optimal zone for your weight, for your height, and for your age.
So we're doing those scans for free.
A lot of gyms around the area have those items, sometimes at a cost.
So it's kind of interesting to just see that, it may not be something you want to see, but, it's definitely something that can provide you, opportunities to improve.
