I'm a cardiologist at Essentia Health in Duluth, Minnesota.
The American Heart Association recommends that everybody get 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity every day, and at least two strength training exercises every week.
So for most people, that's between, you know, 8010 thousand steps a day will help prevent you from developing some of the chronic conditions like obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes.
And most people are not getting enough steps in in the daily routine.
And so going for a walk, if you have a dog, it's easy to take them for a walk.
Otherwise, just going for a walk around your neighborhood or to your mailbox is really important to get those steps in and start to try to stay as active as possible.
We recommend a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, at least five servings per day, having plenty of whole grains, trying to eat more fish, and less animal products like red meats and chicken and pork.
And then trying to limit the carbs and sugar sweetened beverages and other snacks and things that lead to diabetes and high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
