Barr sponsored the Carol Act, named for his late wife.
She died of valvular heart disease.
Carol stands for Cardiovascular advances and Research and opportunities.
The bill, which passed last year, supports research into valvular heart disease, and Barr had his own heart checked at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
