Heat wave and heavy rains spur algal blooms in NJ lakes

"We’ve seen the water temperature break 80 degrees in parts of the lake. It’s very high levels that we’re seeing." Marty Kane knows Lake Hopatcong. He says its normally-cool waters just about simmered in this summer heat wave, especially in Crescent Cove. It’s got one of more than 20 advisories on the DEP’s statewide harmful algal bloom, or HAB, map so far this summer.
