(jazzy trumpet plays) - Hi, I'm Hillary Scott.
This is AJ Gennaro.
We're so glad to be here.
This first song is called My Friend, and dedicated to all of you.

I woke up, I wasn't sure if it would be a good enough to write down and finish.
But I did, and we were actually thrilled to have this be the album of the same name.
So this is the title track to Flowers on Mars, which was our first record that won an Album of the Year award from the National Traditional Country Music Association.
Something like that.
Hopefully, I got that right.
And it's called Flowers on Mars.
(upbeat piano begins) ♪ Someone once told me that ♪ ♪ I would be happy and ♪ ♪ Everything will turn out just fine ♪ ♪ But lately I've been thinking that ♪ ♪ That old boat's been sinking ♪ ♪ I'm overboard and I'm out of time ♪ ♪ Flowers don't grow on Mars ♪ ♪ One day the light will burn out of the sun ♪ ♪ No time for you to count what all my pennies aren't worth ♪ ♪ She said there's no good men upon the Earth ♪ ♪ Well I was young and fanciful ♪ ♪ Girls were sweet our hair was curled ♪ ♪ Boys were made of puppy dog tails ♪ ♪ But these days its just cheap red wine ♪ ♪ Lonely days most of the time ♪ ♪ Love's going cheap in the sales ♪ ♪ Flowers don't grow on Mars ♪ ♪ One day the light will burn out of the sun ♪ ♪ No time for you to count what all my pennies aren't worth ♪ ♪ She said there's no good men upon the Earth ♪ ♪ Why're all the daddies so strong ♪ ♪ Why do boys have to be brave ♪ ♪ What if we got it all wrong ♪ ♪ And little girls shouldn't behave ♪ (piano and drums resume) ♪ But these days I just sit and stare ♪ ♪ Watch the world from over here ♪ ♪ Wonderin' about just what might have been ♪ ♪ But I'll tend my little yard ♪ ♪ Watch the sun and other stars ♪ ♪ Can't do it over again ♪ ♪ Oh ah oh ♪ ♪ Flowers don't grow on Mars ♪ ♪ One day the light will burn out of the sun ♪ ♪ No time for you to count what all my pennies aren't worth ♪ ♪ She said there's no good men upon the Earth ♪ ♪ Flowers never grow on Mars ♪ ♪ Your smile was never brighter than the sun ♪ ♪ No one needs to take the hand of this girl ♪ ♪ She said there's no good men in the world ♪ ♪ There's no good men in the world ♪ (piano and drums quicken) (piano and drums slow) - One of the best parts about being a song writer is having the opportunity to hear your song come alive in different interpretations and versions.
And over the years, as I've played with different bands and recorded in different studios, with different musicians.
That's been a real joy.
And what I want to say about this next one is: we had the chance to record this with some of the best musicians around.
And unfortunately, the person who recorded on this track, Mike Finnigan, who's a world class organist and keyboard player.
Who just made this song just absolutely brilliant on our album Freight Train Love, he passed away recently.
So I wanted to dedicate this to Mike Finnigan, although I am not a Mike Finnigan.
So you will hear our paired down version of this song, Freight Train Love.
One, two, three, four.

I know my mom and I say it to each other.
And so I took that phrase and I wrote this song, which is basically an analogy for a long-term relationships.
And then, as AJ and I were actually calculating the miles to the moon and back, we realized that one of our touring vehicles pretty much made it to the moon.
Which is kinda cool.
And so, this is called Moon and Back.
