Local historians are working to get Paterson’s role in the underground railroad nationally recognized. Huntoon’s Corner pays tribute to Josiah Huntoon and William Van Rensalier, a white business owner working together with a free Black man to help escaped slaves. Five applications to get the site recognized by the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program have been denied.
