Our Laura Rogers takes us back to the track for the history making Run for the Roses.
It's the 150th.
We couldn't miss it.
Juleps, jockeys and joy.
It just feels like you're coming to the best place on Earth.
It's all part of Kentucky Derby.
150 Being in Louisville.
Kentucky Derby is the big show.
Drawing tens of thousands of people to Churchill Downs.
I like picking by the names for gambling glamor.
I wanted a really contemporary, very structural look and good time.
It's amazing.
We're very happy we're here.
On full display, the Garland of Roses, approximately 465 of them weighing £40.
It's the best trophy in the world.
Changes to mark the 150th year, including gold ribbon, carefully guarded by the U.S. Navy Reserve.
Our role is to come out here and escort the roses in.
We also manned the rails on the finish line and we go to these roads to the track.
Sitting on ice packs.
So it feels good on the horse when it goes on.
So you feel good about that?
It's a great feeling, also a great feeling.
Being the official artist for the Kentucky Derby.
It's truly the best experience of my life.
Wiley Cordell, a native of Cynthia Anna, creating the artwork for the official Derby program and poster at Churchill Downs and the Bottle Art for Woodford Reserve.
The inspiration actually comes from Meryl Streep's monologue in The Devil Wears Prada when she talks about the color Cerulean.
He also painted those cerulean roses on his Derby Day attire.
I did something real risky and I painted a designer suit.
So this is hand-painted by me.
I did final touches this morning, actually.
Professional artist or not?
Many others accessorizing with personal handmade details.
There's probably about 10,000 crystals on it front and back.
I got my own style.
I don't like dressing like the next person.
I always like to just dress like me.
So the next person came dressed like.
A major enhancement here at Churchill Downs that was completed just in time for one attendee.
The new $200 million paddock, it is now 12,000 square feet.
It has a double capacity and fans can get much better views at those beautiful thoroughbreds and also iconic men's fires.
It all sets the scene and the backdrop for a tradition 150 years in the making.
There's a lot of people here to follow, but it's really fun, even more so when that $2 bet their eyes are, I guess, to win and money again, like we did yesterday for Kentucky Edition.
I'm Laura Rogers.
Tough assignment, Laura.
Great job.
Kentucky Derby won 50.
Also set a new batting record.
Wagers topped $210 million.
That's 22 million more than last year.
